Yeah there’s not a lot of description on the characters and their physical appearance so that’s just a fun place to take liberties! Tbh I use to draw the Gatsby gang just like the Baz 2013 versions but then when I was redesigning them for fun I asked myself how I thought they might look from my imagination. Lots of tweaking and changes of each character over the course of 3ish years and these are the designs I came up with.

Gatsby being Lebanese was playfully suggested by my best friend who’s also part Lebanese and I have 2 Desi friends so he kinda took form that way. Ppl often speculate that he’s mixed and white passing and I dunno, why not just make him actually dark skin for once and play with that concept? Plus him being mixed race plays a lot into the timeline with immigration in the 20s in my story as well as his mental psyche

Jordan is Afrolatine. At first I just had her Black like me but wanted to make her Latine as well for reasons.

Daisy and Nick I pinned down from old Hollywood stars for funsies. Daisy being a Clara Bow IT girl knock off and Nick being a Gregory Peck nod. Daisy was pretty skinny (Gatsby too) at first but I dunno, I just got tired of every body type lookin the same and figured yeah why not make them chubby and muscular in some areas? Nick I added scars to recently, actually, cause him leaving the battlefield with nothing?? Didn’t feel right to me. A physical and mental scar haunts him now. I also made them both Irish cause again, why not pin down lineage and play with that in a very lineage centric time in America?

Tom probably remains the closest to the 2013 Baz characters. I just really see him as a big buff southern Louisiana man with a preacher’s commanding speech pattern. And that’s partly why I made him a politician! He’s a nod to another old Hollywood star, Clark Gable.

And Meyer is literally Giancarlo Esposito haha! But yeah I also made him Black and Jewish to see how that identity could be played with and portrayed

My retelling has A LOT to do with outside perception and inner struggle/ideas of identity so their background and race and lineage is a big part of the story.

before: a bit underweight, i imagine he got a bit too into eating "healthy" at times and would refuse a lot of foods he deemed unhealthy, which caused him to not get certain nutrients at times even tho he needed them, add to that his forgetfulness especially when it comes to taking care of himself and you can see why hes skinny like that. i also imagine he would often burn more calories than he consumed in a day with all his practicing and just running around in general, which is definetly not that good when youre already underweight. he would often wonder why he seemingly just cant gain any muscle and assumed its just kinda how he naturally is, tho he didnt mind much since his build was similar to a lot of his idols

after: he gained some healthy weight!!!! yippieee!!! with wxs constantly reminding him to take care of himself + with emu bringing some food/snacks nearly everyday he gained some healthy weight, hes now pretty average with maybe a bit of chub in some places. he also finally started building some muscle thanks to all the practice and ruis "training"? if you can call it that? he does get a bit insecure about it at times, wishing he would be back to his build that was like his idols, but wxs are quick to remind him that the best star is a happy and healthy one!! his natural state definitely wasnt skinny, at least not as skinny as he was before

before: you already know she was malnourished and looked like she barely saw the light of day... she had a very weak appetite and her horrible sleep schedule didnt help. she tried to eat well but she struggled with it a lot, tho she never exactly knew why, she would just very quickly feel full and wouldnt feel hungry untill way too many hours later. she would eat like. 2 small meals a day and maybe some snacks in between.

after: you guessed it she gained weight and is chubbier!!!!!! yayayyaa!!!! i think she would hear others motivate tsukasa to eat better and seeing him want to improve on that motivated her to do the same. because of the low appetite thing she struggled pretty hard at first but with time she managed to figure it out and now eats more and is feeling good!!! this is thanks to mostly emu who would love to bring foods and snacks nene loved so they can share it any time the 2 would hang out, but also thanks to the practices and stamina building she was able to kinda feel like she was burning the unnecessary calories? i imagine she struggled pretty hard when she realized how much weight she put on thinking its a bad thing, but with a lot of support and care from wxs she realized this is way healthier for her than wherever she had going on before!!! she doesnt gain muscle easily tho, so not much of that going on + she does focus more on stamina itself rather than gaining muscle and physical strength

after: still pretty much the same!! tho since she started training and working out even more i imagine a bit of her weight turned into more muscle, so shes even more muscle now!!!! she loves it!!! its still not visible unless she flexes, which makes the muscles pretty prominent and she LOVES jumpscaring people with that because nobody expects it for some reason, despite how athletic she is. besides her arms i imagine her legs are pretty built as well seeing how much she runs, especially from one school to another in a matter of minutes to visit her friend. what can i say my girl loves to eat and run around!!! her love language is soooo sharing a meal with her friends btw. its canon i just know it.

before: barely eats doesnt sleep much, just a mess honestly. he doesnt rlly have friends atp and yet still he takes care of others more than he does himself..... needless to say hes tall, lanky, underweight as hell and palest of them all despite not staying inside all that much. lives off of whatever his parents make him if he remembers to eat it and random store bought/school cafeteria foods. malnutrition for sure too like fym u eat no vegetables and ur fine??? bro doesnt even take any vitamins atp to make up for it

after: gained a bit of weight!! hes still skinny because thats just kinda how he naturally is, but hes getting tricked into eating veggies or at least stuff that can replace veggies with the needed nutritions otherwise. he also started taking some vitamins to make up for that too, and despite being naturally pale he did tan a bit!! he still forgets to eat way too often but wxs make up for it with tsukasa always being willing to share his food with him [at times even bringing bigger portions just in case rui needs it] and emu often bringing food to share with them all!!!!

can u tell im a little bit obsessed with gaining weight as a sign of healing. because i am and i love that trope. with the power of love you will stop being underweight and malnourished god bless.

I've been rewatching a bunch of ritual games on YT and wanted to draw something related to it again like I did years ago, this time with Jojo instead of Evillious.

One last thing before we get to the drawing though:

One day in Morioh, the school Tomoko works at is holding a teacher's convention in Tokyo, so she tells Josuke that she'll be gone for two days so he'll have to look after himself for a while(with Medea checking in on him).

During one of his classes, he overhears some students talking about a Japanese ritual game called "Hide and Seek Alone", which first appeared online in 1985 and has since regained popularity, he clearly dismissed it until lunchtime when curiosity got the best of him.

At the school's computer room, he checks it up and finds that the game is real, and it came with a set of instructions and warnings, so he printed them out just in case.

At World History, he goes to Medea and asked if he can borrow her sister-in-law's ofuda, with the excuse of protecting himself from enemy Stand users. Despite insisting that they don't work on Stands, she agrees to bring them over later to help him relax.

At night, Josuke got all the supplies ready, including a teddy bear from a store(whom he names Murdoc for the ritual), he follows the rules correctly and hides in his late grandpa's wardrobe in the living room.

After a long while, Josuke started to think that the ritual was bogus until [Crazy Diamond] appeared. While wondering why his Stand showed up, he starts hearing creepy laughing and scissors snipping.

Josuke took a quick peek outside and nearly choked on his salt water upon seeing the doll walking around, armed, and looking for him. He now understood why his Stand appeared so suddenly, he protected him out of instinct just like [Star Platinum] with Jotaro.

Quickly both Josuke and [Crazy Diamond] jumped out and ambushed the doll, drenched in it in salt water and yelling "I win!" repeatedly until he ran out of breath.

The next morning, Josuke told his friends about what he did the night before and how traumatizing it was, Medea overheard the conversation and became absolutely furious with him and rightfully chewed him out for putting his own life in danger messing with these occult rituals.

I think as an activity, Damian and Reader spend time thinking of/designing tattoos to cover the various scars they know the various bats have. They don’t expect anything of it, don’t even show it to them, it was just a creative process of trying to figure out the right line work that would cover (or incorporate) the scar while still being something each bat would like. The do research on how different scar tissue takes ink and what makes it possible/impossible to tattoo certain things. For Jason’s autopsy scars, Damian originally focused on just weaponary in the design, but Reader sat back and looked at it more. She wanted to honor Jason’s trauma and the experiences that shaped him and who he is now, but violence is not the core of who Jason is. They settle for a tree, branching beyond itself, with a sword plunged honorably before it and a Robin perched on its handle. A bat design in hidden in the leaves, but it is the other marks of his favorite people that make the piece: a smaller Robin looking up at the perched on, the spectacles of Alfred, and butterfly that rests between the sword and the Robin (to signify the delicate beauty that saw Jason as both (and at the same time) his past and his future). Jason cries when he sees it one day, after overhearing the entire planning process when he was “asleep” or came back early. He won’t get it until the day he knows new scars won’t ruin the piece, but he takes a picture and carries it in his wallet and in his patrol jacket so he never has to be apart of the biggest sign of love and acceptance he’s gotten since he’s came back.

I love this, Ghostie!!!! My first thought when I read this was Yggdrasil - the world tree in Norse mythology! One day he gets the tattoo they designed, with two small additions. Speckled amongst the leaves are stars; one for each person who loves and supports him. They're his guiding lights on his darkest days. And amongst those stars is a moon for Reader. Stars are a map painted across the night sky, guiding us when we're lost at sea, but they don't provide enough light to banish the shadows. But the moon, the soft, feminine, motherly moon, sends down enough light to make us feel safe in the darkness. The changing phases of the moon promise us that we are not trapped in this phase of life; just as she waxes and wanes, we too have brighter and darker days. On her darkest day she is still our glorious, beloved moon, and on our darkest day we are still worthy of kindness and love.

Jason gets the tattoo, explains the additions (feeling incredibly embarrassed the whole time; how will they feel about him adding something to their art?), and of course Reader is incredibly emotional about it. And Damian considers the tattoo he's been designing for himself. It was just something to draw; a "maybe someday, but probably not, just for funsies" thing, but now ... Well, wouldn't a little crescent moon outline look so elegant on his wrist, just below that one vein?

So you know how in the S4 special, it's implied that there's something on the other side of the sky?

What if that star we see on the other side is Nuwa?

TL;DR:

In this post, I will point out many connections between Nuwa, stuff we see in the show, and other connections I make in this post. I will use these connections to construct a semblance of a backstory for MK, as well as theorize what MK is, and what may be in store for us in Season 5 (among other things).

These characters all have their right side constructed by the word wa (Chinese: 咼), which can be translated as 'spiral' or 'helix' as noun, and as 'spin' or 'rotate' when as verb, to describe the 'helical movement'.  - Wikipedia

And oh, would you look at that? The sky appears to be cracking in a swirl-like fashion! Perhaps in a way that one might describe as a 'spiral'? Or maybe a 'helix'? Or like the sky is 'spinning'?

But why don't we hit the brakes on this, and mosey our way to another one of your myths?

Perhaps the one that caused people to connect you to MK in the first place?

Perhaps... the myth of how you created humanity?

Hm? Why did I highlight that little bit about her creating commoners from mud? Well, I'm glad you asked! Because guess what appears SEVERAL times throughout the show?

And guess what MK is covered in when he first arrives at Pigsy's?

And in the show, it's very heavily implied that the little monkey figure in Nuwa's hands in the below scene is connected to MK somehow!

You'll see why I'm pointing that out in a moment, but for now, let's take a little frog break!

But yes, I believe I've pointed out enough possible connections! So why don't we see how things relate to MK?

Let's start small! With when Mk first showed up at Pigsy's!

Here, we see he's covered in mud and dirt.

But what if he's also covered in clay?

And where did all that dirt and mud come from?

I have two possible answers:

Nuwa had to get the mud and clay to create humans (and also probably MK) from SOMEWHERE. So perhaps where MK was born had a lot of mud?

That mud is actually some of the clay and dirt that Nuwa used to make MK. He's just covered in excess amounts of it.

Now, here's another question:

How is he covered in so much, when he's in the middle of the city? Surely much would have fallen off on his trek through the streets if he'd come from a forest outside? This isn't even mentioning how there doesn't even seem to BE a forest outside the city, just desert!

To best answer this question, I would like to refer to these two scenes:

In both of them, MK is falling out of the sky.

Yeah.

Yeah, that's right.

I don't think MK was dropped off at Pigsy's.

I think he dropped OUT OF THE SKY right onto Pigsy's lawn.

As in he CAME FROM THE SKY.

Hence his name in the Chinese version of the show, Xiaotian, which apparently means "Little Sky".

Let's also take a look at the mountain where it's implied he was born.

It appears to be VERY high up. It's also surrounded by floating islands. Perhaps... it itself is a floating island? But where? Surely not above Megapolis. Perhaps... on the other side of the sky? Far across those stars nestled in between the cracks of reality?

Surely, time will tell.

So, here's the basic gist of what I think went down:

Nuwa made MK out of clay.

She sealed him inside of Wukong's stone, which she reconstructed around him with the pieces of it.

Eventually, he was born from it.

Somehow, he ended up falling off the mountain, and ended up falling through the sky.

He dropped right on to Pigsy's front lawn.

Additionally, the sky cracking open is apparently not a new event in Chinese mythology.

In fact, the first time it happened, you were there. And you fixed it.

With ROCKS.

In the Huainanzi, there is described a great battle between deities that broke the pillars supporting Heaven and caused great devastation. There was great flooding, and Heaven had collapsed. Nüwa was the one who patched the holes in Heaven with five colored stones, and she used the legs of a tortoise to mend the pillars.[4] - Wikipedia

So, perhaps in Season 5 the crew will go looking for you for help with making sure the sky doesn't tear open?

But then, where would they find you?

Perhaps.... ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SKY?

How does she get along with each of the boys? Does she get along with Star and or Laddie? What's her reaction to the Emersons + Frog Bros? If she were canon, would she die in the movie like the boys? (Also the thought of her going into a blind blood boiling rage after Marko’s death has a GRIP on me)

Starting with David, he's able to tolerate her but she has an attitude like Marko so she can be a bit of a smartass sometimes. Whenever she pulls that shit with him he might snap at her but she could give less of a shit. She doesn't hate him but she really pushes her luck with him a lot just to see what his limits are like. But overall, David treats her the best he can because Marko won't tolerate David being mean to her.

Moving onto Dwayne, he's pretty impassive at first but he soon grows to like her more. While she tends to have a wild side to her compared to most other girls he's met, she's also fairly grounded and isn't completely dense which is a nice change for him. He also admires how well she gets along with Laddie. Also bonus points cuz he has a skating buddy now :)

Paul and Jordan are two halves of a whole moron, Paul loves getting absolutely zonked with her and having really stupid conversations that soon turn existential really fast. And if they aren't doing that they are blasting music on the rock box being an absolute nuisance to everyone else. Sometimes he'll ask her to draw shit on his arms just for the funsies.

Do I even need to say anything about how Marko feels? He was fairly enamored by her at first glance, but after having a few convos with her, he became head over heels for her. He would do anything for her, he would kill anyone who even looks at her wrong. They both have fiery attitudes and can get into very and I mean VERY stupid arguments that end in the occasional fight but it always ends with them making up in the end and then usually laughing about it. She ends up loving him more than she thought she would after he proves that he can be trusted and that he means no harm (poor girl has trust issues after her previous relationship). Basically they are the crazy ass couple you don't fuck with.

Star didn't know what to think of her when she first met her. She was a little wary of her because she almost seemed like bad news going off of first impressions. But she ended up warming up to her as she proved to be a lot nicer than she initially thought. As for Jordan, she was kinda nervous to talk to her because she could tell she wasn't a fan of her being in the cave. (also she was flustered by how pretty she was) They both could bond together having girl talk which soon led to how Jordan ended up getting her ear pierced with the lil rubber ducky.

Laddie sees Jordan as the crazy asf older sister like how Paul is the crazy asf older brother. Whenever Laddie is feeling down, Jordan will do whatever it takes to make him feel better. Jordan sometimes babysits him and they end up watching MTV in her room at her house. Although she gets reckless with him sometimes, like skateboarding through Santa Carla with him holding onto her back for dear life as she weaved through traffic and almost sent hem off a cliff. Dwayne wasn't too happy but by the end, Laddie told Jordan that it was better than any ride he's ever been on at the boardwalk.

(At this point my usual headcanon is that the emersons and frogs had went through the whole incident but it ended in a truce between humans and vamps, so I will be going off of of that for now.)

Jordan met the frogs even before she was a vamp so they had prior interaction, it was mostly just them having stupid back and forths about nonsense, and even when she became a vamp...that didn't really change anything. The frogs are mostly just wary of her and don't completely trust her, especially after hearing she was hanging with the Lost Boys. Jordan will sometimes enter their shop to ask them occasional questions about vampires cuz she knows jack shit about them. And when they aren't in the shop, they are hanging with Sam. This ends in Jordan opening Sam's window unannounced as they are doing god knows what which scares the shit out of all of them.

Speaking of which Sam is fine with her, but hates how unpredictable she can be sometimes. Entering his home unannounced is one example, sometimes she may need to talk to one of the emersons about something so what does she do? Enter through Sam's window... Every. Single. Time. Even with that though, they still are cool with each other. Jordan sometimes brings him a comic he was be looking for just for compensation.

Michael and Jordan are apart of the "Manipulated into drinking blood by an attractive guy" club. So they tend to talk about their frustrations and they seem to relate to each other quite a bit more than they ever thought they would. They are both just losers, but they are losers who have each other.

Lucy reminds Jordan of her own mother a whole lot, so she tries to be nice to her as much as possible. Sometimes for days when she shows up unannounced, she'll talk to Lucy if she senses something wrong with her. Sometimes her kids get distant so it's nice to have Jordan to talk to and vent to.

Grandpa scares the shit out of Jordan, he will say something that comes off as a threat to her, but ends up laughing about it saying he's just messing with her. Jordan doesn't know if he really is though...

Now if she was a canon character, she would die trying to avenge Marko. As for how she would die, it would probably be after she does something impulsive out of blind rage. Like she's goes after Sam but ends up getting caught up in a bunch up wires and cable which she tries to escape from by biting them. Sam tries to warn her not to do that but it's too late and she suffers a similar fate to Dwayne. Sam almost feels bad because she was only trying to avenge her lover who they took away from her, and her own death wasn't even his own doing.

I bring another OC (I'm gonna tweak).

He is human, but he has the ability to... Uhhhhhh you know how you can essentially make your OC whatever you want and change their backstory and you please? That's his power.

Except it's more technology based like instead of writing it out or thinking about it he can 'summon' or 'spawn' these blue transparent screens and edit codes and stuff to make it a reality.

For funsies I also gave him Barbatos power bc why not? It makes sense if you think about it... Anyways he looks relatively normal but the upper half of his face is a screen. Its like... Embedded in his face, it IS his face.

His screen will occasionally glitch out, lose signal, get that little loading screen when he's confused, get cracked. You know. Normal stuff.

Asmo absolutely ADORES the fact that he's basically customizable. Often adding little doodles on his screen like stars and hearts. Or changing his main screen color.

3) I thought about it after reading the question and.. No? I loved Bill as a villain but I think White is more manipulative, using emotions rather than purely frightening others.

4) Gods are shaped by the Void, born from dying stars! A future comic will go further into detail of how White was especially born and how he became what he is now.

5) He heard whispers of a so called 'Angel of Death' and honestly, if you're a god, wouldn't that interest you?

Ok so I've mentioned this in one of my Hc

Tendou has a lot of ghosts hang around him

Very childlike ghosts mind you

So whenever you saw him around

You always saw that he was accompanied by a child's spirit

Like ALL the time

This cause a lot of questions to appear in your mind

Did he know about these spirits?

What do they want?

Why is it always a child's spirit with him?

Eventually, curiosity got the best of you so you went to talk to him

You just went up to him explaining how you know it sounds bizarre but you could see ghosts

Then you proceeded to explain that he has quite a few spirits hanging around him

Even pointing out the one that was currently with him

You were expecting him to call you weird or crazy

But he just looked at you with stars in his eyes

He thought it was super cool that you could see ghosts!

You both had a conversation about ghosts and third eyes and all that jazz

You liked that he didn't treat you differently because of your special skill

So you started hanging around him more often

You guys would just do casual hangout things like play video games or read together

And on some occasions, you would even go to his games!

So his feelings for you grew very slowly and very subtly

But they grew nonetheless

And you couldn't deny that you enjoyed the redhead's company

So when he finally realized his feelings and asked you out

You found no reason to say no 😘

There's a good and a bad way to subvert expectations. Unfortunately what's been happening a lot lately is that many works go for twists for the sake of being twists, the Star Wars Sequels being a prime example of this. Or the later sessions of Game of Thrones. There is a fine balance between being able to surprise your audience and not being extremely predictable.

//I’ve absorbed more complaints and feelings from both those series through pop-culture osmosis than I have from watching them. I’m more of a casual observer, but I do have some feelings on both these points (which I will put under here if you’re interested.)

//tl;dr version: I think we should unbiasedly judge media on its own merits and look over what works internally within the story and what doesn’t, be willing to make our own judgements rather than jump on bandwagons and tell people what they should or shouldn’t like, and not treat opinions as straight facts.

//And also that I’m honestly tired of hearing about the sequels and GoT ^^;

//I disagree with a lot of people on the Star Wars sequels (aside from 9, fuck 9), but I’d rather not start a debate about it nor their quality overall. Only that I think people really overreacted to them  and many others jumped on the hate bandwagon when emotions were running high.

//Frankly, many of the criticisms I saw about the films felt either wildly inconsistent about what they’re upset about or what they wanted it to be (7 was criticized for being too much like old Star Wars, 8 for not being enough like old Star Wars) and others felt like they came from bad faith and I can’t take them seriously.

//And yes, the last season of Game of Thrones is trash and wrecked everyone’s storylines for the sake of being shocking, but let’s also be real: GoT was never going to have a happy ending if it wanted to stick to its “realism.” Whoever got on the Iron Throne was inevitably going to have to purge all opposition to consolidate power. That’s just how real revolutions and coups work.

//To be clear, Daenerys’ turn to evil murderousness was stupidly executed, but it wasn’t necessarily unprecedented. What I frankly dislike about fantasy in general is its tendency toward the Divine Right of Kings. That only certain bloodlines have the right to rule and you just need to put the “rightful heir” on the throne. In other words, giving absolute power to a magically omnibenevolent person will fix everything. I may be an optimistic humanist, but I know that simply doesn’t happen.

//The entire point of GoT is that DRoK is stupid and royalty in general really kinda sucks. If you go back, you see most of the lords we follow, including “good king” Eddard Stark, are either totally indifferent to the masses or are completely sadistic and torture them for funsies since the legal system doesn’t protect peasants.

//The Starks are no better than the Lannisters simply by virtue of being overall “nicer” than them. Both sides start wars that get thousands of people killed. Also, everybody loved John Snow, but he also fucking hanged a kid and I’ve never heard anyone bring that up since.

//Most importantly, Daenerys was a likable character with a sympathetic backstory, but even before the last season, she was fully embracing being a Targaryen by blood and was openly murdering people who got in her way while she was conquering territory after territory.

//Yes, a lot of the people she killed were slaveholders, but let’s be real for a moment: not everyone who participates in an evil system is evil themselves. It’s easy for us as the audience to judge them for participating in a slavocracy, but living in one comes with being told slavery is okay. That doesn’t make them evil by nature, just subject to the biases of their culture.

//Also, slavery is evil but conquering people is fine? And burning people to death for opposing you is acceptable since you’re going to be better and free everyone, or because you had a sympathetic backstory? These are the kinds of things that get villains criticized for, but is treated as a necessary evil at worst for the protagonists.

//This is protagonist-centered morality. The show is framing it in a way where you’re being drawn in to see it that way, but also telling you not to see blatant hypocrisies for what they really are. Daenerys was even called as mad as her father by Tyrion. It wasn’t well-executed, but it was going to happen regardless of how much anyone liked her.

//Violence for a good cause is still violence. If you’re going to burn people for disagreeing with you, then say that other people shouldn’t and should listen to others, that’s full-on hypocrisy. That goes for most of the characters in the show, frankly, and the message is executed well for most of it.

//That being said, don’t think this means I think the last season of GoT is good, that the Star Wars sequels are perfect, or that I hate all fantasy books ever. That’s not what I’m saying. I try to enjoy what’s good about them and point out their flaws regardless.

//What I’m saying is it’s important to, when you want to be critical of media, put your feelings and biases aside and judge the media you’re criticizing on its own merits. In my opinion, the claims that the sequels only did things to subvert expectations is unfounded. They were going their own direction, which was admittedly controversial and not what many people wanted, but just because you don’t want it to happen doesn’t mean it’s a bad twist

//Just like how a character isn’t a Mary Sue just because they’re too OP or you don’t like them. That’s not what that term means and hearing people use it like that irritates me. While I do have my complaints about characters, people use that term as if it’s a form of literary criticism that has more use than is necessary.

//If a character is OP, they’re OP. If a character is flat, they’re flat. If a character is poorly written, they’re poorly written. If a character is at the center of the universe and literally everything else exists just to amplify them and their role in things, then they’re likely a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. It’s not a label to slap on  a character you don’t like or to give a critique (or complaint) more weight.

//This is why I say DR3 Chiaki isn’t a Mary Sue, she’s just not a very well written character. All Mary Sues are poorly written characters, but not all poorly written characters are Mary Sues. She’s not terrible, but she’s not explored much and her only big roles are being the person who brings Class 77-B together and her death turns them to despair.

//While her death was tragic and brutal, we didn’t really get a good look at who she was as a person beyond just being nice and opening up to her friends. If they’d expanded on that a little more, maybe it would’ve been more effective, but the way she died felt...manipulative and shock baity in a lot of ways since it banked mostly on our familiarity with her despite it being a totally different person.

//DR3 honestly had a whole host of shocky and just plain gross scenes that I really don’t think needed to be there.

//But likewise, if a story has a plot twist that you don’t like, that doesn’t automatically make it purely shock bait or subverting expectations just for the sake of doing so. There’s a difference between “this character was evil all along and there were a lot of clues and we just didn’t want to believe it” and “this character was evil all along for reasons we’re dumping on you now.”

//Just so I don’t seem like a hypocrite, while I personally don’t like what happened with Mikan in chapter 3 of SDR2, it was an effective way of foreshadowing the truth of them being the remnants of despair. It was set up that every had lost their memories and this was a sign that getting them back wasn’t necessarily going to have a good outcome.

//And I’ll be real: I can’t take a lot of the complaints about the Sequels or GoT seriously because much of it carries overtones of racism, sexism and antisemitism. For those more into Star wars, I think you know what I mean already and that’s all I’ll say. As for GoT, I’ve seen reddit posts viscerally attacking the writers directly and even saying that we should’ve expected the ending to suck since it was “written by Jews.”

//Yeah, go figure I can’t read any of that. I know not all people who hated the show’s ending or the films are like that, but it’s impossible to deny that those attitudes are very real.

//In the end, if you want to be critical of media, the worst way to do that is to just watch a video of someone complaining about it for half an hour. Yes, those video essays can be fun, but the only way to be truly critical of media you enjoy is to examine it yourself and look closely at what’s in it and how it’s presented. That goes doubly for shows you like.

//I know not everyone will do that and all opinions are ultimately subjective, but don’t let someone else tell you that you should hate something or that something is bad just because they didn’t like how it ended. Watch or read it yourself and draw your own conclusions. Don’t just follow the crowd and also be respectful of people who don’t agree with you. You can learn a lot when you talk to someone with a different opinion.

“okay, so you don’t know who is designing your tattoo?” the tattoo artist asked as you all sat in one of the rooms.

“nope!” everyone spoke in unison.

“that’s fun isn’t it? so if you all tell me the size and where you want it, i can note it down and then one at a time you can tell me in the other room who you’re designing for. we can make sure that the size and placement will be considered in the designing process.”

the artist pulled out a notebook and wrote where each individual wanted the tattoo - then motioned for you to follow him into the other smaller room.

“so who did you get?”

“i got beomgyu, the one with grey hair.”

“ah, yes. what were you thinking?”

“well, i wanted to write the date and coordinates of where we met,” you pulled out your phone, tapping into the notes app. “37.5665° n, 126.9780° e, 13th of march, 2017.” he began sketching out some different fonts and you picked a simple and minimalist one. the different parts were going on the inside of his fingers on his left hand. 

“awesome, thanks.” you left the room, proud of yourself for thinking of something meaningful.

two days later, and everyone had gotten their tattoos done. yours was just below your collarbone, and you were all sitting in your living room, a full length mirror leaning against the wall. 

kai stood up, clapping his hands. “okay, so i think that we should go yeonjun, taehyun, soobin, beomgyu and then y/n last.”

“hey! this was my idea, i think i should go first.” you pouted. kai shook his head. 

“well i am basically the mc for this event so i choose the order.”

“argh, fine.” 

you all laughed at yeonjun’s tattoo of a smiley face chosen by soobin on his bicep. everyone was laughing so hard they were crying at the simple lineart of a bunny sitting on a loaf of bread on soobin’s thigh that kai had picked. taehyun had a small star behind his ear, that yeonjun had picked for him, stating “you’re a star and it’s time you start thinking you are.” 

beomgyu closed his eyes as kai removed the bandages around his fingers. when he looked, his brows furrowed slightly in confusion.

“that’s the coordinates and date of when and where we met. seoul, on the thirteenth of march, 2017.” you said. he stared at you, his eyes tearing up slightly as he bit his lip. you wrapped your arms around him, engulfing him in a hug. 

“cute. now y/n, get over here so i can take those bandages off.” you rolled your eyes at kai’s impatience and stood with your eyes closed in front of the mirror. your skin stung as the bandage was ripped off, and then you opened your eyes cautiously.

you felt your throat tighten. 

there, just under your collarbone, was a tattoo almost identical to beomgyu’s. the only difference was the year - yours read 13/3/18 instead of 13/3/17.

“well... that’s the coordinates and date of where and when i realised i love you. seoul, thirteenth of march, 2018.”

you couldn’t help but start bawling your eyes out, and as beomgyu hugged you for the second your buried your face onto the soft black material of his shirt. god, how didn’t you notice how fantastic he smelled.

“that’s nearly two years, gyu, why didn’t you tell me?” you sniffed, looking up at him. 

“i didn’t think you liked me back.” he bit his lip again.

“of course i do, you idiot.” you gently hit his arm, both laughing. you glanced over to the others, who were sitting almost expectantly. kai mouthed ‘kiss’ quite aggressively to you, and you poked your tongue out at him. 

beomgyu had clearly seen kai’s antics and sighed. 

“... maybe we should kiss.”

“usually, i’d say no just to annoy kai... but sure.” you smiled.

beomgyu’s slightly raw lips were on yours for a few moments before he pulled away. 

the others began cheering, kai in particular standing upon the coffee table with his arms in the air and screeching at the top of his lungs “my plan worked! i am a genius!!” 

“of course you set this whole thing up...” you muttered. 

kai beamed. “yes. you’re welcome, by the way.”

okay so i watched this video on tumblr this morning. it was a clip from the show ‘just tattoo of us’ where these two women got tattoos designed by the other or some shit, and they reveal them... basically the second chick got a tattoo that had “i love you” and asked the other chick to be her girlfriend and it inspired me to write this (it was the cutest thing e v e r and i cried a little bit watching it).

( oliver jackson-cohen, cis male, he/him, muse 39 ) i saw benjamin goldman at the docks doing sketches of the boats. it’s good to see them, i heard they’ve been living in redwater for his entire life making a living as a lumberyard worker. did you know their birthday just passed ? that makes them 33 years old and a pisces, which makes sense to me considering they’re shy and tolerant. i heard they’re thinking about becoming a full time artist. i hope it works out.

the youngest in a family of immigrants, benjamin was the only child born in the us. this sense of displacement has been in his bones since he was born, never quite comfortable wherever he is.

his family came to washington to work in the lumber industry. it was a hard adjustment but his father was enchanted with the lush forests he saw in a postcard when they landed in america. while the reality didn’t match the dream, the goldmans didn’t have the money to go anywhere else.

benjamin has never known anywhere else, growing up and living in the logging camps around petersen’s. while one might think he would be comfortable in the forest, benjamin had a terrifying experience with the forest when he was just a young boy.

benjamin wandered away from the camp while playing and became lost at age 8. he wandered through the forest; crying, running from any noise in fear of bears, and sleeping under fallen tree limbs. His ordeal lasted for 14 days. he was picked up on the other side of the island by a passing charcoal burner, and returned to overjoyed parents, but the damage was already done. he had a deep set fear of being lost in the forest, and never wanted to go into it alone again. 

while the incident made him fearful and withdrawn, it connected benjamin with his inner mind, and made him an astute observer of the world. in his recovery, one of the secretaries from the mill gifted him a pencil set and benjamin learned how to draw. it’s always been a secret love of his, but he hardly shows any of his sketches to anyone.

when war came calling, benjamin was called on, quite against his will. he would have been content to live and die in the woods of redwater, but uncle sam had other plans. benjamin was drafted into the us army and to his surprise, became quite versatile with a rifle, owing to him growing up hunting.  

while overseas, he ran into one of the most charismatic members of his platoon, jack adler. benjamin was surprised when one night, jack revealed he was from redwater, benjamin’s hometown. they struck up a conversation, and became fast friends. jack enjoyed his sketches and encouraged him to become an artist after the war, and benjamin let himself dream that it was possible.

of course, every soldier has a tragedy and jack adler became benjamin’s. jack was killed, and benjamin was the one to hold him through it. he was the one to remove jack’s identification tag and his family’s letter, the one to write peggy, the little sister jack talked about on the nights he missed home.

benjamin escaped the war unscathed (though is anyone ever really unscathed?) and came home to redwater, to resume his position as a lumberyard worker. now benjamin is helping the company define its border, and he’s trying to find his own again. benjamin is trying to come back to himself. 

( tom payne, agender, he/him, muse 41 ) i saw peter lamb at roger’s diner getting a bite to eat. it’s good to see them, i heard they’ve been living in redwater for their entire life making a living as a manger at langberg’s. did you know their birthday just passed ? that makes them 37 years old and a virgo, which makes sense to me considering they’re critical and loyal. i heard they’re thinking about becoming a lawyer. i hope it works out.

peter lamb was the only child of a happy couple of redwater. his father and mother had grown up in redwater and lived there their entire lives and as far as they were concerned, so would their son. they saw themselves as being on the brink of being legacies, and their son would be the start of it.

peter was raised like he was a king of his household. they spoiled him, and told him to reach for the stars. yet somehow, peter didn’t let it go to his head. peter would say it was because he saw how a doctor saved his mother’s life when she was in a car crash with him at age 10 (the event made him want to become a doctor), but he knew deep down it was because he was inescapably lonely.

peter had no siblings, no close friends, and he felt different. he didn’t see himself in the casual violence and anger expressed by his father, nor in the soft surrenders of his mother, he didn’t feel like either of them. and when he played with the children on his street, he thought each one of them felt like him, because how couldn’t they? if he was the only one to feel like this... peter couldn’t stand the thought of that, so he ignored it.  

when peter was 15, he got a part time job as a clerk in langberg’s, in the men’s department. it was there that peter fully realized he was different. other men didn’t look at each other like he looked at them, they were confident and knew their masculine side. peter didn’t feel like he had one, like he was entirely separate from gender. he wrote about it in a doeskin journal his mother got him, and hid it behind the baseboard, never to talk about what he felt.

he worked again in langberg’s, this time as the department manager. but it was the nuremberg trials, the proceedings that laid the blame somewhere, that gave peter the inspiration to follow again. peter knew he wanted to be a lawyer, to hold criminals to account and help victims seek justice. now the big question is just how to get there?  

( sebastian stan, cis male, he/him, muse 1 ) i saw abraham hartley at the uptown waterfront doing net repairs for his fishing boat. it’s good to see them, i heard they’ve been living in redwater for his entire life making a living as a fisherman. did you know their birthday just passed ? that makes them 37 years old and a cancer, which makes sense to me considering they’re insecure and sympathetic. i heard they’re thinking about starting a family. i hope it works out.

tw: alcoholism, child abuse, death, death during birth

abraham was born to a family already a memory. his father was half out the door always, his mother trying to disappear, the house almost slipping out of their grasp every week. abraham never knew plenty, only knew less.

and then, against the odds, a baby. but then elijah came screaming into the world and his mother did her great disappearing act for good. four year old abraham was left hollow eyed in the corner of the room, holding a bloodied infant, and his father gone to a bar to drink, his mother cooling on the table. that less had finally turned into loss.

his father turned his back on elijah and abraham had to beg from door to door to get milk, had to take his father’s boots off when he collapsed on the floor every night. abraham had always thought he had taken after his mother more, but as it turned out, he had to become her. he had to take care of her husband and her child, and became the heart of the hartleys. 

and yet when it counted the most, that heart failed him. a murmur, a murmuring heart, held him back from the jaws of war, and from following his brother to the great battlefield. but abraham had his own battlefield to contend with at home, taking care of his father, whose hard drinking had caught up with him. he had to take over their fishing boat, had to get up before the sun to set out on the water. 

and while abraham had his own fears and struggles to deal with at home, he worried about his brother, unable to protect him like he always had. he feared the war board coming to his door, being handed a folded flag. but it never came, and ve day did, and he could breathe a sigh of relief. 

and then scarce a week later, his father died. abraham had no money, not even for a potter’s grave, so he stole out of his house one night and wrapped his father in a length of canvas, rocks in the lining. his father slipped into the sound, and abraham felt a burden lift. he could move on now, no longer be that frightened little boy in the corner of the room.

and eventually, eli came back. he stole into their house like a stranger and when abraham looks at him, he can scarcely see the boy he raised. he’s not sure if they can ever get to be what they were but he’ll be here for whatever they are now.

This is about this post right up there. Not linking to it, because fuck that post and people who reblog it. Feel free to block me.

so basically this post says that villians that get a redemption arc and don’t stay evil are gross? Is that what it is?

Because honestly, I didn’t love the star wars newest storyline, but I enjoyed Kylo Ren arc. Especially when it gets compared to what they did to poor Finn’s storyline. You know, start out strong then put him in a corner for the rest of the two movies? That sucked. At least Kylo Ren started out as a man child and grwe up into teenager years before he was killed. Hell, I can’t even watch the last movie because of my seizures. But honestly, all the characters arc in Star wars seemed to get worse except his. Of course that says nothing about the latest series if you hated him and never thought he was redeamed. So doesn’t that mean you hated the whole star wars arc?

And since I have seen this on several My Hero Academia posts. Yes, I feel a lot of the people posting this would not like any of the League of villians, including your Dabi and Shigaraki Tomura. Sorry, but they arcs parellel Kylo Ren’s just a tad bit too much.

and the more I look the worst that post gets about people making THEIR villian okay, but not OTHER villians.

Example, antifaichietozier said all women villians are sexy. Never knew there were Dolores Umbridge fuckers. But you be you baby. But I guess older women porn is a thing.....

guys who are kinda fruity? So villians who are gay coded, just gay male villians are sexy. I know some people think Joker is gay. So it’s cool that he abused Harley like that? I also know pople who think Griffith from Berserk is sexy, but very few who like him as a sexual being after how he left the hawks....you know with the death and rape and such. But some of those same people have posts about “kill all cisnets”  and anti bi or trans people........so,,,,,,okay......

3) leftist activists being vilified by disney, I don’t even know what this means. Most of the Disney villians, if not all are coded as being LGBTA. So are you claiming that makes them leftist just because they’re LGBTA? Baby, sweetie, there are actual LGBTA people who are right wing. Hell, my brother was anti gay marriage for years. He just recently stoppedit. But he was out there being a Hispanic gay male antiLGBTA rights for YEARS.

But like my mind goes to Frollo from Hunchback. And I thought he was obviously a right wing hand man? Same kinda goes to scar. There are very few disney villians I would agree to. But then again Disney is just now giving us most of their villians’ backstories. So maybe even people like Cruella had a good reason to want puppies dead.

Sorry, jsut tired of seeing people reposting and then explaining why THEIR villian is DIFFERENT. Under it all most of the villians are the same. It jsut goes to show where you’re willing to draw the line. And it’s hilaious to me that some people will change that line for their favorite or if hey think its justified, but will attack a whole ass fandom (star wars/ Kylo Ren people). So doesn’t that make US the biggest villians willing to attack one fandom and one particular character for funsies. And yes, already went through and blcoked a whole lot of you. All negative responses will be blocked. Because I do love my villians, and pushing the block button is just a simple thing to do to be able to  enjoy the villians more.

Twelve Precarious Ponderings

1-  I've mentioned this before but this card is a total WEC card. A lot of "no name" talent that's  really good fighters all who have a propensity for exciting fights (minus Aljamain Sterling really and even he can finish) across weight classes that fans don't always care about. Throw in some exciting middleweight prospects going at it and you've got a pretty decent under the radar "there's gonna be action"  fight card. You just got a loaded PPV and there's a loaded Fox card next week so accept your no name action fight show and move on quietly.  

2- The situation of Cub Swanson is of much interest to me. Swanson's a fighter who has been in the ZUFFA fold seemingly forever (at least since I first started watching WEC events) but now there appears to be a potential split brewing. Cub, in many ways, is blocked from reaching the upper echelons of 145 lbs since just about every 145er of note has beaten him but he's still ultra entertaining, very talented, a top 5 featherweight in my eyes and there's nothing wrong with losses to Aldo, Lamas, Holloway and Edgar. So what do you do with a guy who is blocked by the elites of the division, wanting more money and chirping about thingss you'd prefer he didn't chirp about? I'm not really sure. Cub Swanson's still a valuable headliner for free TV in my estimation and it's a real shame and a bummer that we never got the fight with McGregor which would've been a lot of fun. Unfortunately for Cub, it looks like that opportunity may have passed him by and  his UFC future may be ending in Fresno.

3- Brian Ortega is....weird. As a fighter I mean. He's 26 years old and sometimes he fights like a guy who is still figuring things out. I've mentioned this before but sometimes learning what NOT to do is as important as doing the things you're expected to do. Ortega's first round is a weird mixture of trying to figure out what he can get away with it and then he spends most of the second round working to implement that. Against Clay Guida for instance, Ortega spent the whole second round trying to find a way to hit the knees which eventually ended the fight in the third round with like a minute left. He's young, flashy and versatile. While Cub Swanson is the best fighter he's ever going to face, we are talking about a guy who has faced off with Clay Guida and Thiago Tavares so he's not going to be overwhelmed by Cub's veteran savvy. His UFC career is a collection of late finishes that he spends long bits of time setting up and he's got that Robbie Lawler "I will finish you when I have to" air of inevitability about him when fights go long. He's a fourth quarter player. The one thing which stands out to me is that he fights very similarly to Jon Jones (minus the otherworldly athletic talent)----and Cub Swanson sees Jon Jones every day in the gym in theory. It'll be an interesting chess match early on.

4- So let's say Ortega wins, right? What then? Frankie Edgar is currently your #1 contender except he's also kinda sorta probably out a bit with a broken eye socket. I always assume those are six month-ish injuries so I guess you can do Edgar-Holloway in the spring. Ortega beating Cub Swanson would in theory set him up to fight Ricardo Lamas which would be great as a main card fight (similar to Holloway-Lamas) on a bigger PPV. Even that seems dicey because Josh Emmett could absolutely paste RIcardo Lamas and then you've got no obvious answer there either. Aldo should move on so you can't do that fight. Lot of great fighters but not great "names" I guess floating around 145 lbs.

5- Aljamain Sterling's UFC journey has been pretty weird. He's had 8 fights in the UFC and got off to a hot 4-0 start before he and the UFC started squabbling about his contract. He got a new deal, a renewed promotional push----and lost to Bryan Caraway. Then he lost to Rafa Assuncao. NEITHER of those losses are career enders but they were progress stoppers. Since then he's rebounded with a win over Tanquinho Mendes and a very impressive win over Renan Barao. Sterling is a guy who is clearly talented but maybe not to the liking of the UFC audiences for some reason. He still seems at times to struggle with strength and I'm still waiting for his hands to catch up with the rest of his game. Marlon Moraes is a weird challenge given that he's short notice, a vastly different style to Rani Yahya (Moraes hurts people really badly on the feet, Yahya is basically a five minute grappling whiz) and it's the highest profile fight of his career in terms of main card quality. Hopefully if Sterling wins, it's by fight stoppage so that the rest of the world can speed up alongside this moving train at 135 lbs.

6- What did Scott Holtzman and Darrell Horcher do to share a main card spot? Seriously.

7- Imagine the damage Eryk Anders would do if he had gotten into this sport a year or two earlier. Insanely powerful guy who is developing at a rapid rate and has the skills to really be a star in time. He draws short notice replacement Markus Perez who is a former RFA champion at 185 lbs.

8- Albert Morales vs Benito Lopez is a really interesting fight. Albert Morales was signed off of DWTCS and his first fight into the organization was TUF winner Alejandro Perez. That's a tough out and Morales in my honest opinion won that fight. He was rewarded off a draw with facing Thomas Almeida in Brazil which is SUCH a fucked up challenge for a dude. He had his moments but Almeida did with what he does to most outside the top 10 guys by fucking overwhelming him with offense. He took on Andre Soukhamthath next and won a close split decision before he took on Brett Johns on short notice and lost but had some moments. Morales is a tough stern task vs the 23 year old Benito Lopez out of TAM. Urijah Faber was very, very honest about Lopez, admitting that he's one of thiose guys who doesn't go 100% in the gym (or what TAM considers to be that) but who just goes out and performs. He got a big step up in Steven Peterson and he survived some tough tough situations vs a veteran to earn his UFC contract. Good tough fight for both guys.

9- Let's say Moraes beats Sterling. That means he's beaten Sterling and Moraes in a span of a month----so where's that rank among all time "consecutive great wins in a month"?

10- Luke Sanders is coming off a disappointing loss to Iuri Alcantara where he was dominant, got too cocky and eventually got finished with a kneebar by a proven veteran. I'm excited to see what he's improved at given how long it's been since we've seen him last. Sanders can be an eventual top 15 bantamweight but he needs to be a) more active and b) leave a no doubt about it type finish vs a short notice opponent in Andre Soukhamtath.

11- If I told you Liz Carmouche was one win away from being a viable #1 contender for this bantamweight title would you 1) agree, 2) disagree or 3) cry for the future of the division.

12-Merab Dvalishvili is a Matt Serra/Ray Longo prodigy out of Georgia who has a 7-2 record with two losses in his first three fights. One of them is to Ricky Bandejas who will be in the UFC eventually. He was found off of Looking For A Fight where he finished Raufeon Stots, another UFC quality talent, and in what seems to be a theme for Lookin For A Fight talent, Dana gave him a freakin' hellacious fight in Frankie Saenz. Saenz has a rather deceptive record on paper, the sort of record where an idiot who doesn't watch fights would assume he's some kind of a can. Saenz would probably be more successful at 125 lbs but he's beaten Sirwan Kakai and Iuri Alcantara with a close loss to Agusto Mendes, a back and forth war with Urijah Faber and a tough 3rd round TKO vs Eddie Wineland in a fight I felt he was winning.

Must Wins

1- Cub Swanson

I'm of the belief Swanson is gone regardless but there's a bit of a success record with guys in their last contracted fights winning big (Bader, Benson, Sterling, Overeem) so it's a bit of a lucky spot to be in. He draws a younger athletic bigger version of himself if you watched early Cub Swanson. He's not the usual prospect in that he's tasted adversity in the past and always comes back better. A win could reset Swanson's contract status or allow him to choose his own destiny. A win and he's heading to Bellator getting PAID.

2- Aljamain Sterling

Marlon Moraes is the highest ranked opponent he's ever been pitted against unless you count the cooked corpse of Renan Barao. Sterling in my opinion has title contender potential and has personality in a division that's coming into his own. He needs to beat Marlon Moraes to make a big step up the rankings.

3- Luke Sanders

Sanders is deceptively old in the bantamweight division (31) and is coming off a loss. He has the talent to be a top 10 bantamweight in a division that's getting younger and starting tor eally percolate. He's a unique talent with a tough short notice fight upcoming.
