The 7th Year

Nico Hischier x fem!reader
summary: reader wants to celebrate Nico’s 7 year anniversary of being drafted to the Devils
notes: i really wanted to post this on his actual draft anniversary but i’m a slacker and didn’t finish it in time, so here it is now. it still counts cause it’s still draft week, right? anyways, i hope you enjoy and happy reading! 🫶🏼
[4.4k]
“Jack, it’s all wrong!” you cry out, looking at the orange cake sitting in front of you.
“Listen, we can fix it. I can run down to the nearest grocery store and have them make me a new one really quick,” Jack tries to reason with you, attempting to avoid the incoming meltdown.
Today was Nico’s seven-year anniversary of being drafted to the Devils. You know it’s an in-between milestone, most people celebrating every five years, but you didn’t care. You weren’t with him two years ago, having only been dating the hockey captain for a little over a year, so you were determined to make a big deal out of this milestone instead.
Your apartment was decked out in every tacky, red or devil related decoration imaginable, from cardboard cut-outs of Nico littered throughout the large living space to a custom ‘pin the horns on the nico’ party game you ordered for the occasion.
“Jack, I special ordered this cake four months ago, because the bakery he likes had a waiting list almost six months long for their cake decorator. I literally told them I’d pay extra if they could have it done by today,” you shut the lid of the cake box, not wanting to look at the orange monstrosity any longer.
You had sent them several reference pictures of what you wanted done, confirming with them last week that they had the correct pictures and color scheme.
“Well, at least they got the logo right?” Jack tries again, watching you run your hands through your recently curled hair.
People were set to start showing up any minute now, and you were panicking about being ready in time for Nico’s return home in a little over an hour. You barely had time to shower and make yourself presentable after spending all day transforming your apartment into a Nico museum.
All of his trophies and medals from childhood up until now are displayed on various surfaces around your shared apartment, action shot posters are taped on the living room walls, taking the place of your decorative pictures, and several of his old jerseys are on display in shadow boxes propped up in the high-top chairs that usually sit around the small table on your balcony, but are currently placed in various spots around the large room.
“Yeah, sure. The logo says Devils, but the colors say Flyers,” you mumble, pinching the bridge of your nose, trying to stop yourself from crying off your fresh make-up.
Jack had been a trooper today. Luke too. The two of them had shown up to your apartment not even twenty minutes after Nico left with Jesper and Timo this morning for their early tee time. They helped you decorate and arrange your entire apartment, ran all over Hoboken with you grabbing last minute stuff for the evening, and Luke is out right now picking up the catering order that was supposed to be delivered but somehow got marked for pick up.
Your phone starts ringing in the middle of your deep breathing moment, trying to calm your nerves.
“Luke, please tell me you have the food and are on your way home,” you answer the phone, praying Luke is calling to check in and not to give you bad news.
“Yeah, I got it. On my way now. Just calling to check and see if you need anything else while I’m out,” he tells you, the sound of his car door shutting heard in the background.
You breathe out a sigh of relief. At least the food is taken care of, you think to yourself. “No, I think we’re good. I double checked everything before I got in the shower. And Jack has been setting stuff up while I was getting ready. Just please get here in one piece with the food before I have a small stroke,” you attempt a joke, but your tone sounds more strained than anything.
“Aye Aye, Mrs. Captain,” you hear through the phone, picturing the small salute Luke is likely doing right now.
You chuckle out a goodbye and hang up your phone.
“So, am I good to go get changed now, or do you need me to talk you off a ledge right now?” Jack asks you, treading lightly.
You send him an unamused glare. “No, I think I’ve done everything I can do until Luke gets here with the food. Go, change. Shower if you need to,” you wave him off, grabbing the cake on the counter in front of you and walking to place it in the large fridge.
“Alright, but if I hear the balcony door open I won’t hesitate to run out here butt naked to make sure you’re not trying to make an escape,” he sings out as he walks out of your kitchen, turning down the hallway towards your guest bathroom.
You flip him off even though he can’t see you, a smile on your face nonetheless.
Thirty minutes later, Jack is showered and dressed and a few of Nico’s teammates have shown up, decked out in the t-shirts you had ordered and distributed to everyone.
Each of Nico’s teammates are wearing a shirt with his picture from his draft on it. No matter who you were looking at, Nico’s smiling baby face, devils hat on his head and devils jersey pulled over his formal attire, with one finger pointed in the air to signify his being picked first overall, was looking back at you.
You thought it would be funny to have Nico walk into a surprise celebration with his face staring back at him from nearly everyone in attendance, and when you pitched the idea to his teammates they were all for it.
You had ordered your own shirt with Nico’s face on it, too. Although, yours was one of the shirts in the WWE style, overlapping, various pics of Nico making up the design.
As the time got closer to Nico coming home, more and more of his teammates and their significant others showed up, ready to surprise their captain.
Ten minutes before Nico was due arrive, you get a call from Jesper.
“Hey, you guys almost here?” you answer, walking away from the noise of your living room.
“Yeah, leaving the bar now,” he tells you, pausing to bid someone in the background goodbye and ringing out ‘thank you’ a few times as he walks out of the bar.
Jesper and Timo were tasked with keeping Nico busy and away from home today. It started with their game of golf, but quickly turned into an additional eighteen holes and trying to kill time at the clubhouse bar when their games went by far quicker than they anticipated.
Around lunchtime, Timo called you and told you Nico kept saying he was going to bow out early to come home and spend some time with you, but you begged them to find a way to keep him occupied. You ended up having to send him a message, telling him you were out with a friend for a quick lunch before a fake nail appointment that turned into a real one once he asked to see what design you had chosen this time. Which is why you were late getting ready, having to leave Jack to decorate the apartment during your impromptu salon trip.
Most of the time you love that Nico is so invested in your relationship. He always wants to spend time with you, going with you to hair and nail appointments, following you around like a puppy when you go shopping, and simply sticking around the house on days when he has nothing planned just to catch up on your latest reality show obsession he always gets hooked into.
Today, though, you wish he was a little more apt to spending time with his friends. The amount of ‘I miss you’ and ‘can’t wait to come home and binge love island!’ texts you got today made you love him even more – if that’s even possible – but also made your anxiety sky rocket each time, because you know if he wanted to, he would simply leave in the middle of his plans with Timo and Jesper, no amount of convincing able to keep him there.
“Alright, don’t forget your shirts,” you start to remind him. You turn your body to look behind you, hearing a chorus of “Lukey!” and “Moose!” ring out, signaling Luke was finally back with the food. “Hey, I gotta go Jesp, Luke just got back with the food. Be safe!” you rush out before hanging up, making your way back into the small crowd.
You weave through bodies until you reach your kitchen, watching Luke attempt to sit down the large disposable trays.
“Luke, please don’t drop those,” you run over to him, helping him slide the heavy food onto your kitchen island.
You unstack the pans, making sure each one is unharmed and an appropriate distance from the edge of the counter.
“C’mon, Y/N, have a little more faith in me than that. I can carry a few trays of food,” he tells you, dramatically flexing his arms at you.
You roll your eyes at the curly-headed giant. Checking the time on your phone, you figure you have enough time to try and set up the food a little bit before Nico gets here. Opening the various pans, you freeze.
“Luke…what is this?” you ask him, a cold feeling washing over you.
Luke furrows his brows at you, peeking over your shoulder from his spot behind you. “The food you asked me to get? Is this a trick question?”
You dropped the flimsy lid, condensation from the hot dish flying everywhere.
When you were thinking about what food you wanted to have for the party, you knew it would be in the off-season, the Devils losing their playoff spot pretty early this season. So, you figured it would be a good time to order a few pans of his favorite dishes from his favorite Italian restaurant.
You ordered a pan of their lasagna, chicken parm, and a large pan of a steak and pasta dish specific to the restaurant. You had called them to confirm this morning, which is how you found out it was marked as pick up instead of delivery, causing Luke to have to drive forty-five minutes one way in order to grab the food.
What you were unaware of, however, is the fact that this restaurant, apparently, also caters an array of vegan options.
When you opened the three pans, you were met with a large pan of what looked like roasted cauliflower with tomato sauce, eggplant boats covered in pesto, and what looked like breaded and baked zucchini.
You had no issue with vegan food, some of it being some of the most delicious food you’ve ever eaten, but this is not at all what you envisioned surprising Nico with.
“I ordered lasagna, chicken parm, and steak pasta. There is no chicken, parm, steak, or layered noodles in front of me right now,” you try to keep your tone even and calm, knowing it’s not Luke’s fault.
“I swear, they handed me the box of food that had your name on it. I even checked the receipt and everything,” Luke defended himself.
You can feel the tears welling up, despite your attempt at taking big, deep breaths to avoid your emotions getting the best of you.
When the first tear falls over, the rest come crashing out before you could even stop them. You bring your face to your hands and start sobbing, upset that you couldn’t have everything be perfect for such an important day for Nico.
“Hey, don’t cry,” Luke coos as he wraps you in a hug, your face still hidden by your hands. “You’re going to ruin your make-up. You don’t want to greet Nico while looking like a little raccoon, do you?” you let out a chuckle at Luke’s words, his attempt at cheering you up working for a quick moment.
You bring your hands away from your face, sniffling and trying to carefully wipe your eyes. Luke keeps you trapped in a hug, giving you a few moments to collect yourself before stepping back, rubbing your arms instead.
“I just wanted everything to be perfect. I wanted Nico to walk in here and see all of his friends here, ready to celebrate him. I wanted to surprise him with his favorite meal and his favorite cake from his favorite bakery, since he doesn’t ever get this stuff during the season. But instead he gets an orange cake and a vegan dinner,” you huff, gesturing to the food in front of you.
“Well, he’ll definitely be surprised,” Luke attempts another joke, this one earning a sarcastic laugh instead of a genuine one. “Listen, we can fix it, okay? We’ll call the place and get a refund then order a few pizzas, alright? It’ll be fine. Everyone likes pizza.”
He bends his knees so he’s eye level with you, trying to gauge your reaction to his suggestion.
You look over to the food on the counter, bringing a sliver of your bottom lip in-between your teeth, mulling the idea over in your head.
“Yeah, we can do that. Everyone does like pizza, don’t they?” you try to convince yourself pizza will be fine, you could just take Nico out to dinner for his Italian food later this week.
“They sure do. And lucky for you, I have the best pizzeria in Hoboken on speed dial. I’ll make them do a rush order for their favorite customer,” Luke winks down at you, stepping away to pull out his phone and make the last-minute order.
You cover the food in front of you back up, picking up each tray and tossing them in the trash can at the end of your island, knowing that a group of hungry hockey players wouldn’t want three trays worth of vegetables to eat for party food.
You stand in the middle of the kitchen, trying to compose yourself and wipe away any mascara residue when Jack comes running through the open doorway, frantic eyes landing on you.
“Y/N, what’s wrong? Why do you look like you’ve been crying? Jesper just texted and said they’re on the elevator on their way up,” he rushes out, walking towards you to make sure you’re alright.
“Catering mishap, Luke’s ordering pizza now. Don’t worry, I’m fine. Go grab him, quick,” you suddenly perk up, nerves bubbling in your stomach.
As you follow Jack out of the kitchen and make your way to the front of the small crowd at the end of your entry way, all you can think about is hoping Nico likes what you’ve done. You hope he doesn’t think the decorations are too tacky, or that the shirts are weird. You hope he’s okay with eating greasy pizza and orange cake. You hope he likes the custom Halifax and Devils split jersey you plan to gift him later to represent where he started and where he is now. Overall, you just hope he understands how proud you are of him.
You see Jack and Luke walk up beside you out of the corner of your eye, matching with the rest of their teammates that are surrounding you. Luke leans down to whisper “Pizza’s ordered, it’ll be here in twenty,” into your ear before standing back to his original height and facing forward, waiting on his captain to walk through the door.
You’re suddenly hit with a thought about how thankful you are for the people surrounding you. For Jack and Luke who dealt with your demanding and crazy self today, talking you off of ledges and running around doing your bidding all day long. You’re thankful for the teammates that showed up today, ready to celebrate the captain they love almost as much as you do. You’re thankful for Timo and Jesper, making sure Nico stays in the dark about the surprise, doing everything in their power to keep him out of your hair until this moment.
You’re so incredibly thankful that the universe has allowed you to not only love someone as kind, loving, and special as Nico, but that he loves you back just as much. You also gained an entire family through Nico, his teammates treating you like one of their own, showing you just as much love and care as they do him. You’ve found some of your best friends through him, Jack, Luke, Timo, and Jesper being four of the best people you’ve ever had in your life.
The sound of the front door opening distracts you from your sentimental thoughts. You see Jesper enter first, his Nico shirt looking a little out of place paired with his golf pants. Nico follows him in, blindfolded. You have to stop a snort from making its way out, not knowing Timo and Jesper were going to resort to blindfolding him. Timo follows a step behind Nico, hands on his shoulders, guiding him and preventing him from bumping into anything.
Timo guides him to a few feet in front of you, stopping him before dropping his hands from his shoulders.
“Alright, Cap, you can take your blindfold off now,” Jesper tells him, him and Timo quickly stepping over to where you stand, joining the rest of their team.
Nico reaches up the untie the blindfold on his head. “I swear to god, if you guys did this just to mess with me and take me to another bar I’m going to kill both of you. I told you I just wanted to go home to Y/N-“ Nico stops mid-sentence when the cloth falls into his hands.
A loud, “Surprise!” rings out around the room, Nico’s eyes darting to each person, then down to their shirts.
You stand there, smiling at his shocked face.
“What-“ he starts, but stops, speechless at the scene in front of him.
You step forward the few feet to him, his gaze finally landing on you.
“Happy draft anniversary, baby,” you tell him, smiling up at him.
He looks down at you, eyebrows furrowing. You can tell he didn’t remember what day it was until this moment, his eyes looking around the room again, understanding settling in on the choice of shirts.
“You did all this? For me?” he asks, a smile taking over his face as he looks down on you.
“Well, duh,” you tell him. “Your seven-year draft anniversary is a big deal, you know?”
He beams down at you, the amount of love in his eyes enough to nearly knock you down.
“I love you, you know that?” he asks, wrapping his arms around you, pulling your body close to his.
“I think you’ve told me once or twice,” you tease.
He rolls his eyes at you, bringing his lips down to meet yours. The kiss is innocent and sweet, considering most of his team is stood behind you, but it was enough to cause a feeling of warmth to wash over you, all the way down to your toes.
When you pull back from the kiss you can’t help but to keep smiling at him. “Alright, go greet your teammates now. I’ll find you later,” you tell him, patting him on the chest as you step back.
Nico gives you a wink before he walks over to his friends and teammates, making his way through hugs and handshakes.
You mostly sit back and observe for most of the night, splitting off from the festivities when the pizza was delivered, placing it in the kitchen and announcing everyone to just serve themselves.
You make your way around your apartment, conversing with Nico’s various coworkers. You cross paths with Nico a few times, each time he tried to whisk you away to your shared bedroom, but you insisted he have a good time with his friends, there’ll be plenty of time for the two of you later. You stick around Jack and Luke some, but finding yourself in a corner talking to Nicole, Jesper’s girlfriend towards the end of the night.
“Y/N, seriously, this is great. I wish I would have thought of something like this for Jesper. Nico hit the jackpot with you,” Nicole compliments.
Your cheeks redden. “He deserves it. I mean, he left everything he’d ever known in Switzerland to come here and pursue this. And look how well he did for himself,” you turn to look over at him standing with Jonas and Erik, Jonas attempting his turn at pinning the devil horns on the large poster of Nico on the wall.
You’ve always been amazed at Nico’s bravery and determination to pursue this dream, knowing how hard it was for you to move just a few states away from your family, much less halfway across the world. He proved every single person that told him he wouldn’t make it wrong, not only getting drafted, but being the first overall pick. And now he earned his captaincy on top of that, proving he’s not only a phenomenal player, but an even better teammate and leader.
“I think he did very well for himself, and not just in reference to hockey, either,” she tells you, leaning over and placing a hand on your leg to emphasize her point.
You look down, not particularly knowing how to respond to her compliments.
“Hey, Y/N, want us to stick around and help clean up,” you hear a voice ask you, turning around to see only Jack, Luke, Jesper and Timo remaining.
Nico walks over to you as Nicole stands and joins Jesper.
“Nah, you guys head out. We’ll call you tomorrow if we need any help,” Nico answers for you, standing behind you and placing his hands on your shoulders, giving them a light squeeze.
“That’s code for ‘get out you goons, I’m trying to be alone with my girl right now,’” Jack says, earning a chuckle from the group.
You and Nico walk everyone to the door, saying your goodbyes before shutting the apartment door and turning around to observe the state of your apartment.
“Don’t even think about trying to clean anything up tonight. You’re not lifting a finger for the rest of the night,” Nico threatens, slipping his arms around your torso from behind, burying his face in your neck.
“C’mon, at least let me clean up the cups your lazy teammates didn’t throw away,” you pat his hands, starting to walk him over to start picking up the red, plastic cups.
“Alright, but after that we’re going to the bedroom and aren’t leaving until this time tomorrow,” Nico points a finger at you as he separates from your body.
The two of you gather all of the stray cups, bringing them into the kitchen to throw them away. You notice the empty pizza boxes, breaking a few of them down while asking Nico to put the leftovers in your fridge so they don’t ruin.
“What’s in the box?” he asks, grabbing the white cake box and dragging it out of the fridge.
“Oh no! I totally forgot about the cake!” you exclaim.
“You bought me a cake?” Nico opens the box.
He looks up at you, amusement in his eyes. “Schatz, why did you get me an orange Devils cake?”
You groan, bringing your hands up to rake them down your face.
“It was supposed to be red, but the bakery fucked it up and I didn’t know until they delivered it,” you explained, walking over to stand next to him as he looks between the cake and you.
“The catering was messed up too,” you continued. “I tried to order your favorite dishes from that Italian place you like, but they sent a bunch of vegan dishes instead, so Luke had to order pizza last minute.”
Nico lets out a laugh at your confession. “So, you threw me a draft anniversary party with an orange cake and vegan food?” he teases, closing the lid to the cake box and turning his body to face you.
You give him a pout. “Don’t make fun of me, I was trying to be nice to you.”
This earns another laugh, Nico placing his hands on either side of your pouting face.
“You could have thrown me a party with water soup as the entrée and ice cubes as appetizers and I would still think it’s the best party I’ve ever been to, simply because you planned it,” he tells you, looking down into your eyes.
“You meant it? You enjoyed yourself tonight?” you ask him earnestly, that small seed of worry making its way back into your brain.
Nico doesn’t answer, he leans down to kiss you for the second time that night. This time, though, he wasn’t as slow and sweet as he was when you had an audience.
His kiss isn’t rushed, but with his tongue slipping its way into your mouth, it quickly turns into a partial make-out session in your kitchen.
He pulls back once the two of you need to come up for air, resting his forehead against yours.
“I had a blast tonight. The shirts were a nice touch, by the way,” he smirks at you.
You let out a giggle, thinking of how funny it was when he registered all of his teammates were wearing his face on their chest.
“Thank you, seriously,” his tone turns serious. “I can’t even begin to explain to you what this means to me. I just wish I could’ve had you by my side from the start.”
You look at him through his long lashes, not being able to think about anything except for how much you love him at this moment.
“Well, you’ll have me until the end of it. Or until you get sick of me, whichever comes first,” you joke, causing Nico to pull his forehead back from yours.
He uses his hands that are still on your face to tilt your head up to look at him. “Not possible. If anyone gets sick of anyone around here it’s going to be you getting sick of me, because I never want to be anywhere but by your side.”
You just stare up at him, shaking your head in a no motion, the intensity of his stare taking any words from the tip of your tongue.
You both just stand there, staring at each other for what feels like hours, but was really just a few moments.
“Enough of us just standing in the kitchen, I think it’s time we take this little party to our bedroom so I can really show you how thankful I am,” he breaks the silence, his eyes going from love to lust before you could even blink.
He doesn’t give you a chance to respond, just throwing you over his shoulder while you squeal, carrying you to your bedroom. As you pass all of the decorations on the hallway walls on your way to the bedroom, you’re already thinking of how you can make year eight’s anniversary even better, especially if Nico is as thankful next year as he proves to be this year, thanking you over and over and over again once you reach your bedroom.

This isn’t a good idea || Leah Williamson
Warning smut 18+, fingering, public setting
Based on this request here. Thank you for the idea :)
Summary You and Leah decide to take a risk
You knew from the moment you woke up how the day would end.
From the minute you opened your eyes, you knew you’d wake up tomorrow morning without the ability to walk.
Leah loved milestones.
First kiss.
First date.
First anniversary.
But this one was the biggest one so far in her opinion.
Your fifth anniversary.
Five years ago, you and Leah became a couple and that was a major thing is Leah’s eyes, and yours.
For the past three weeks, Leah had been telling you that she had planned the whole day for the two of you.
From the moment you woke up, to the moment you close your eyes.
So when Leah woke you up early on the day of your anniversary, you knew it was going to be a hectic but loving day.
“Babe, wake up.” Leah whispered, pressing kisses to your exposed collarbones, which just happened to be covered in light purple bruises from a few nights ago.
“Hi, baby.” You said, quietly, a big smile appearing on your face as you saw Leah.
“Happy anniversary, love.” Leah told you, pressing her lips on yours.
“Happy anniversary, Leah.” You mumble before kissing her again.
"Are you ready for today?" Leah asked, a cheeky grin resting on her face.
"Well, I will be when you tell me what we're doing." You reply, excitedly.
You were excited because for the last three weeks, Leah kept teasing you about what you were going to be doing but then when it came to you asking, Leah would refuse to reveal it.
But this time, instead of not telling you, Leah was going to tell you.
"We're going to jump in the shower together, then we're going to the spa for the morning. After a relaxing morning, we're going to go shopping. Whatever shops you want to go to, you can buy whatever you want, on my card, including a new outfit for dinner tonight at the new Italian place that you've been wanting to try." Leah explained and you couldn't help but smile at her excitement that showed whilst telling you.
"You don't have to spoil me, baby."
"Of course I do, love. You spoil me everyday. Let me just have a day so I can spoil you." Leah told you, wrapping her arm around your shoulder, gently massaging it.
"Thank you, Le." You said, before she grabbed a hold of your hips, pulling you onto her hips.
Placing her lips on your exposed chest, Leah started to rock your body back and fourth on her thighs.
You rolled your head back due to the contact, a stifled sigh leaving your mouth.
"Le, please don't start something you can't finish." You told her, coming to realisation that this would probably have to wait until later.
"It's just a warm up for later, love." Leah smirked, playfully winking at you before guiding you to your en-suite bathroom.
_______
The day had gone perfectly.
Just as Leah said, the morning was relaxing. You enjoyed your time at the spa, using it wisely to unwind.
After a nice couples massage, you and Leah drove into the centre of London, stopping off at several shops to pick up the perfect outfits for your date.
You decided to go for a simple dress that showed some cleavage whereas Leah bought a new brown suit, that you loved.
Once you'd finished shopping, you made your way home, getting ready before making your way to the restaurant.
You and Leah sat down and ordered your meals along with a bottle of red wine.
"You look gorgeous tonight, love." Leah complimented, leaning in close to leave a kiss on your cheek.
"So do you, baby." You replied back, taking a sip of red wine.
As the night went on, you couldn't help but notice Leah's wandering hand travelling up your thigh.
At first, it was an innocent hand placement, she gently squeezed it as you continued your conversation with her.
It was something she always did, but as you ate, it travelled further and further up until eventually you had to take it away and place it in its original place.
You'd already finished eating once her hand started travelling again.
After a while, her fingers laid just under your dress, slightly moving the fabric further up your thigh.
"Le, stop it. Don't start something you can't finish." You repeated your words from earlier, sending Leah a warning look.
"Who says I can't finish this?" Leah asked rhetorically and you shook your head at her.
"Leah... not here, not now."
You were lying if you said you didn't want it because, truth be told, you'd been waiting all day, but not in the middle of a busy restaurant with waiters walking past every few seconds and people surrounding you.
"Come on, babe. No one will know. Just keep quiet." Leah whispered in your ear, her fingers circling your covered clit.
She moved your underwear to the side, swiping her fingers through your folds.
"You're soaked, pretty girl." Leah muttered, taking a sip from her glass.
From a person walking by's view, it looked like a couple having dinner, but from your view, you could see Leah knuckle deep inside you.
"Fuck, Le." You breathed out, unable to make a noise due to the life surrounding you.
"You look so beautiful like this, love. When we get home, I'm gonna fuck you so good. So good that you'll be screaming my name."
Leah, teasingly, slowed down her pace to stop your orgasm from approaching.
"Please, le. Please, I want to cum. I want to cum on your fingers." You begged and Leah obliged, speeding up the pace of her fingers.
Leah continued to thrust her fingers in and out you before curling them.
You grabbed a hold of her bicep as you felt your orgasm approaching.
Leah pulled you in for a mind numbing kiss, her lips smashing into yours.
The lingering taste of red wine on her lips had you in a chokehold.
The smell of her perfume had intoxicated you.
the feeling of her fingers in your pussy had you shattering into millions of pieces.
Leah kept her lips on yours until you came. She wanted to swallow all your orgasmic sounds that escaped your lips.
"Fuck." was all you said as you broke your lips from hers, looking in her eyes to see her eyes full of lust.
Leah pulled her fingers out of your pussy, a small whine leaving your lips at the loss of contact, and bought them to her mouth.
She let out a small hum of satisfaction as she licked her fingers clean.
"I don't think i'll be needing desert, do you?"

DON’T YOU EVER GROW UP
CHARACTERS: Joel Miller & Sarah Miller
RATING: none | WORD COUNT: 900
SUMMARY: Joel experiences many emotions as Sarah reaches the childhood milestone of getting her “big girl” bed.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is me, projecting my own experience onto my favorite character because I’m a fic writer and that’s what I do. Divider by @/saradika-graphics and beta read by @murder-wife 💕

Tumblr media
Joel wipes the sweat beading along his hairline with the back of his hand. He stares at the new bed frame, his mind not reconciling how much bigger than her convertible crib it is. It's just a twin, white wood that matches her dresser and her bookcase stuffed with children's books of all shapes and sizes, but it seeing it take up so much space feels jarring.
"Little help?" Tommy calls from the hallway. Joel shakes his head to clear his thoughts before joining his brother, who holds one end of a mattress teetering on the stairs. Together they bring it the rest of the way into Sarah's room, settling it on the frame.
"Thanks for the help," Joel says, patting Tommy's shoulder. "I owe ya one."
"Don't sweat it. I know the little miss was dyin' for her new big girl bed."
There it is, the phrase that makes Joel's heart clench in his chest. Sarah's barreling towards five years old, shedding some of the baby roundness in her cheeks and no longer saying certain words incorrectly, the way toddlers tend to do. She gets up every morning for preschool and eats her cereal all by herself and comes home in the afternoon to tell Joel about her day, legs kicking against the chair while she shows him her art because she's not quite tall enough to reach the floor. Joel looks around the room again, remembering the rocking chair in the corner that was the first piece of her childhood to retire, followed by the changing table with its pile of diapers. He thinks about how small she'd been, how light her tiny body was on his chest and for a moment he misses it so fiercely his eyes burn with the threat of tears.
"I need a beer," Tommy says, leaving the room. Joel takes the opportunity to press his fingers to his eyes, willing the wave of emotion to subside before joining his brother in the kitchen.
They share a couple beers before Tommy checks his watch, announcing that he should leave. On the way out the door, they pass the dismantled crib and Tommy taps it with his hand.
"You want me to drop that off for donation?" he asks. Joel looks at the chipped white wood, rubs a thumb over a dent in the veneer.
"No, that's alright. I'll take care of it," he replies. Tommy shrugs and Joel walks him out to his truck parked in the drive way, waving him off. When Tommy disappears from view, he heads next door to Connie's house.
He knocks on the front door and waits, the sound of tiny feet against wood growing louder, making his smile grow wider. The door opens, Sarah's sweet face peeking through the crack allowed by the chain lock.
"Password?" she asks, tone as serious as a four year old can muster. Joel crouches down to look her in the eye.
"Pizza for dinner," he says. She squeals in excitement and jumps away from the door just as Connie unlocks it. His daughter sits on the worn carpet runner to pull on her shoes while Joel asks how she behaved.
"She was an angel as always," Connie assures him. "Wait right here, we made cookies earlier and I want to send y'all home with some."
Connie disappears down the hall and Sarah darts after her. When they return, his daughter is balancing a foil wrapped plate in both hands, tongue peeking out of her mouth in concentration.
"Thanks again, Con. I'll be 'round Sunday to help Dan with the yard," Joel promises. Connie waves a hand at him.
"Don't you worry about it, you know it ain't a big deal to watch her. You got a good egg on your hands."
Back at home, Joel calls in an order for pizza that he shares with Sarah. He lets her take sips of his Coke to wash it down, her brown eyes wide with excitement at getting to drink soda with dinner. After a bath, pajamas, and a minor argument over brushing her teeth, Sarah enters her room for the first time that evening and sees her new bed.
"Wow!" she exclaims, clambering onto the mattress. She stands, jumping excitedly and Joel wraps an arm around her middle, placing her back on the ground.
"Remember how that song goes? The monkey falls off and bumps his head?" Joel asks, knocking his knuckles against the top of her head as she giggles. "No jumpin'. Come on, let's get your sheets on."
Together, though the bulk of the effort falls on Joel, they get her bed ready. Purple sheets with a cream colored quilt decorated with purple butterflies, a set that she spotted in the store that Joel went back to purchase on his own. She crawls between the sheets and settles her head on the pillow, ready for her stories. Joel reads three books of her choosing and shuts down her argument for a fourth, seeing that she can barely keep her eyes open any longer. He plugs in her pink butterfly nightlight and kisses her forehead.
"Goodnight, baby girl," he whispers.
"'M not a baby, I'm a big girl now," Sarah replies in her sleepy voice. Her eyes have already drifted shut before he can respond and he stands there for a moment, watching her with a lump in his throat.
Sarah may be getting bigger, but she'll always be his baby. Of that, Joel is certain.

Do you think the new division of Cartoon Network Studios will end up exploiting and abusing AI to make new cartoons of their old properties?
I wouldn't put it past any studio to do this.
We're at the end of The Animation Industry As We Know It, so studios are going to do anything and everything they can to stay alive.
The way I see it is:
AI "art" isn't actually art. Art is created by humans to express ideas and emotions. Writing prompts allows a computer to interpret human ideas and emotions by taking other examples of those things and recombining them.
Just because something isn't art doesn't mean that humans can't understand it or find it beautiful. We passed a really fun prompt generation milestone about a year ago where everything looked like it was made by a Dadaist or someone on heavy psychedelics. Now we're at the Uncanny Valley stage. Soon, you won't be able to tell the difference.
It's not just drawings and paintings that are effected, but writing and film. It's every part of the entertainment industry. And the genie is out of the bottle. I've seen people saying that prompt-based image generators have "democratized" art. And I see where they're coming from. In ten years, I can easily see a future where anyone can sit down at their desk, have a short conversation with their computer, and have a ready-to-watch, custom movie with flawless special effects, passable story, and a solid three act structure. You want to replace Harrison Ford in Star Wars with your little brother and have Chewbacca make only fart sounds, and then they fly to Narnia and fistfight Batman? Done.
But, sadly, long before we reach that ten year mark, the bots will get hold of this stuff and absolutely lay waste to existing art industries. Sure, as a prompter I guess you can be proud of the hours or days you put into crafting your prompts, but you know what's better than a human at crafting prompts? Bots. Imagine bots cranking out hundreds of thousands of full-length feature films per minute. The noise level will squash almost any organic artist or AI prompter out of existence.
AI images trivialize real art. The whole point of a studio is to provide the money, labor, and space to create these big, complicated art projects. But if there are no big, complicated art projects, no creatives leading the charge, and no employees to pay... what the fuck do we need studios for? We won't, but their sheer wealth and power will leave them forcing themselves on us for the rest of our lives.
The near future will see studios clamp down on the tech in order to keep it in their own hands. Disney does tons of proprietary tech stuff, so I'm sure they're ahead of the game. Other studios will continue to seek mergers until they can merge with a content distribution platform. I've heard rumors of Comcast wanting to buy out either WB or Nick. That's the sort of thing I'm talking about. The only winners of this game will be the two or three super-huge distribution platforms who can filter out enough of the spam (which they themselves are likely perpetuating) to provide a reasonable entertainment experience.
400,000 channels and nothing's on.
I do think that money will eventually make the "you can't copyright AI stuff" thing go away. There's also the attrition of "Oh, whoops! We accidentally put an AI actor in there and no one noticed for five years, so now it's cool."
One way or another, it's gonna be a wild ride. As the canary in the coal mine, I hope we can all get some UBI before I'm forced to move into the sewers and go full C.H.U.D.

Just Say Yes | Jack Hughes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: Jack has finally prepared for the big day, he’s going to propose to you.
song: When You’re Ready - Shawn Mendes
request: yes/no
warnings: none.
word count: 2.55k
authors note: finding the picture of Jack was so hard because none of them screamed boyfriend… I’ve finally written this request that I was meant to write, so I hope the wait was worth it. If you want to check out the rest of the celly playlist you can do so here!
Tumblr media
Jack waited for this day for years.
When he was five he first met you as your family purchased the lake house next to the Hughes’ it was a moment that is still engraved in his mind. You were in some pink dress that your mom had dressed you in and the first thing he literally said to you was that you were really pretty.
Naturally after that moment Ellen and your mom waited for the day that you two got together, because it wasn’t a matter of if but rather when.
At fifteen your friendship with the boy had grown even larger, your family had moved to Canada and that meant you were down the road from Jack every day rather than only during the summer.
It was no surprise that within six months of you living there Jack finally mustered up the courage to ask you out. You had said yes and your relationship was pure bliss for the three years that you had it for.
Jack was the perfect boyfriend, he was your date to prom and you two even got to graduate together.
But when you got your acceptance letter from Harvard you knew what you had to do. Jack hadn’t even been drafted yet but with no desire to go to university it meant that he could have been anywhere in North America soon.
That might have been a cop out answer but in fear of holding the boy who was predicted to go first in the draft you decided to break up with him.
Sure it was tough, you both cried but as you walked out of his room both of you knew it was for the best “always thought you’d marry her.” Jim blurted out one day as he sat with his son on the porch of the lake house.
Jim seriously saw you as the daughter he never had so this wasn’t just a break up that was felt by you and Jack it was felt by both of your families.
Luke didn’t know where his uno buddy went and he also didn’t seem to comprehend how you breaking up with Jack meant that nobody else in the family could see you.
Of course Ellen kept in contact with you, making sure that she reached out on your big milestone days that your mom posted on Facebook, moving into your dorm, making the honours list. Ellen was there to congratulate you through it all.
Watching Jack having that rough rookie season broke your heart, it was tough to avoid the mention of him especially as you had befriended the boys on the Harvard hockey team.
There were many moments when you would open his contact details to send him a whole long message wanting to reach out, most times you’d even type out what you wanted to say but each time you’d stop yourself from sending it.
To you there was fear that ran through your body each time you stopped yourself, what if Jack didn’t want to hear from you? What if he had changed his number? What if he had found someone new?
Jack was the big and bright first pick rookie so regardless of what he was doing on the ice, it wasn’t crazy to assume that some pretty girls would be knocking on the door of his dms.
That was why you were so surprised when you came out of class one day to see one of his teammates sat in the coffee shop on campus.
Nico recognised you from the pictures on Jacks phone and that caused him to let out a cheer as he ushered you over to him.
You didn’t want to be rude and that’s why you listened as you sat in the seat in front of him “Jack has been a wreck,” he announced not bothering to do any small talk.
The team had been trying to figure out how to help their rookie teammate because he was completely shutting himself in this bubble. The Swiss man remembered you from a flashback picture that the Devils posted of their rookie so when he asked who you were it gave the older boys on the team the genius idea that involved bringing you back to him “I’ve got class in an hour.” You announced with a sigh, sure you wanted to see Jack but your studies came first.
That didn’t deter Nico though “can you come to the game this Saturday?” He asked as he dug his hand into his bag to pull something out of it “I don’t know Nico,” you were scared that the boy would hate you for breaking up with him.
You two hadn’t spoken to each other since you left his room over six months ago now “just think about it.” The boy pleaded as he left a devils jersey and an all access pass on the table “I know he misses you,” he added as he patted your shoulder before he left you with that decisions hanging over your head.
Even as you walked into the prudential centre you didn’t know if you were doing the right thing, you wanted to turn around and leave but with Nicos words replaying in your head you knew you had to stay. It continued to replay until you got downstairs “we have someone we want you to see,” Miles smiled as he locked eyes with you.
Jack was entirely clueless about what was going on as he furrowed his eyebrows “do I have to?” He groaned as after another poor performance he didn’t want to see anyone.
Nico laughed “I think you’ll want to,” he patted the boys back as he motioned for you to come over “hi Jack,” you awkwardly spoke as the boy looked at you.
The forward swore he was dreaming “y/n?” Before you could let the tears well in your eyes Jack already took three large steps to get over to you as he pulled you into a hug.
You smiled as you wrapped your arms around him “what are you doing here?” He asked as he still couldn’t believe that you were truly there.
It took you two a whole year of trying to reset your friendship to what it was before you dated for you to now ask Jack out.
Jack didn’t even let you finish your sentence before he told you to “shut up and kiss me.”
This time your relationship was built on a much more mature scale showing the growth that you each had when you were apart from each other. Cracks were now obvious in your relationship as there were arguments about the things you didn’t agree on but neither one of you cared about them for long because you two always found a way to work through them.
Now it was clear that the love you two had for each other wasn’t a puppy kind of love but rather the real kind that requires work to be perfect.
The moment you graduated Jack had you move into his apartment, most weeks you were already there so you moving there full time wasn’t going to become a massive shock to your systems.
But little did you know that by the time July came around Jack was a nervous wreck. In May he went ring shopping with Ellen, despite the fact that you were both young Jack didn’t want to be with anyone else.
Nobody was made him feel the way you did and the same thing went for how you felt about him.
Also the idea of being engaged for a while was also a massive possibility too.
The only thing holding him back was the fact that he worried you might not be settled into New Jersey yet.
Ellen though saw how happy you when she came to attend your graduation amongst the rest of her family and that caused her to sit her son down and say “just propose when you’re ready, she’s the happiest I’ve seen her in years!”
And that is how it happened, you had dragged Jack on a sunrise hike whilst you were in Michigan.
When you were looking in awe at the beautiful site of the orange and pinks that graced the skies Jack was too busy focusing on you as he tried to not drop the ring box “baby?” You asked as the boy hadn’t spoken in a while.
You turned around with your eyebrows furrowed but you quickly gasped as you realised what was going on “really?” Shock went through your system.
Jack was always the man you thought you’d marry and you always swore that Jack would be so nervous that you’d know exactly when he was planning on proposing.
But here you were totally oblivious “what do you say to putting up with me for the rest of our lives?” Jack joked as the Devils boys always said that they were responsible for this relationships second run.
Yet the boys also believed that they owed you an apology for bringing you back to your irritating boy.
You got down on one knee too as you were now crying “I’ll say a thousand times over.” You confessed as you pecked his lips.
Maybe Nico did deserve that matchmaker gift basket after all.

♥️Reveling in Richonne - TOWL
#48: The Wedding Plans (1.05)
Tumblr media
Of all the Jadis and Father Gabriel flashbacks, this was the best one right here because we get to learn something so special - Rick wanted to have a wedding with Michonne. 😭 Officially marrying his wife is one of the many milestones that trifling Jadis stole from them, and Michonne also addresses some other missed milestones Jadis took from them as they hunt her down 🚖...
Flashing back to two years ago, Jadis and Father Gabriel have another one of their annual meetings in the forest. Jadis asks, “How’s Rick’s wife doing?” And I do like hearing Michonne be referred to as 'Rick’s wife' by someone, even tho it’s one of my least favorite someones.
Father Gabriel says, “Michonne? She’s away helping people.” And even with this, I was like...SIR, are you at all curious why Jadis is curious about how Rick’s wife - who Jadis wasn’t close to - is doing? Like, please...
Tumblr media
I'm not even saying Father Gabriel needed to immediately put together that Jadis had anything to do with Rick, since he, like many, thought Rick died. But still, he could have at least been a bit more suspicious of Jadis' whole situation and told some people back home about her and her helicopter.
And then I’m side-eying Father Gabriel again when he asks, “Why did you call her his wife?” Gabe, you have to ask? 😑 Lol, I know it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but, the second I even realized these two were having these yearly meet-ups, everything they said and did had me looking at both of them like...
Tumblr media
Jadis says, “I mean, wasn’t she?” And I just know she’s thinking about how Rick barely says five words to her in Philly and most of those words are about his wife. 😋
Father Gabriel says, “Well not officially. If that matters anymore.” I said now Father G, I know you see Michonne every day raising those kids and wearing a wedding ring around her neck. That’s Rick’s wife, stop playing.
Tumblr media
Also, in TWD I was proud of Father Gabriel when he had his whole evolution into a real one and became a valued member of the group. But seeing TOWL made me remember that while Father G has grown a lot, this man did in fact enter this franchise with snake tendencies.
Had me wondering if his snake past is what makes him intrinsically drawn to this snake Jadis. But little does Father G know, that while he's actually tried to improve himself, Jadis is still slithering through life and causing so much harm.
Something I do like about this exchange between them tho is it feels like yet another thing TOWL came to set the record straight on regarding Richonne. Like for all the viewers that used to comment “no ring, no marriage,” stuff about Richonne, this was TOWL being like nope, Rick and Michonne are and have long been husband and wife, period. 👌🏽
Tumblr media
This show didn't allow any room to downplay, discredit, or dismiss who Rick and Michonne are to each other and how much they mean to each other and I'll always appreciate TOWL for that. 😌
Then we get to the best part of these Jadis/Father Gabriel flashbacks when Father Gabriel says, “It’s funny. One day, Rick said that I should marry them. Maybe we should do it right there on the bridge that we were building”
Y’all. 🫠 When I tell you I was gagged when I heard that the first time.
I had been ready for them to just hurry this Jadis/Father G scene up but then I heard that line and...
Tumblr media
I adore that we got to learn that Rick wanted to have a wedding and was making plans for it before he was taken. He wanted to marry Michonne on the bridge. 🥹 The very bridge he was then taken from her for years. 🥺
Watching Rick's season 9 episodes back, they’re now even better knowing that making his marriage to Michonne official was on his mind. It’s almost like you can see it with certain scenes, even tho obviously this detail was more added in TOWL rather than pre-planted in TWD.
Tumblr media
It’s so sweet too because Rick was so adamant about that bridge being completed and I love knowing that it was both because of its practicality/symbolism of unity bringing the communities together and because it was where he and Michonne could celebrate their own special union with a wedding.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @perryabbott
This was esepcially great to hear because I had always felt that Rick would be the type to give Michonne a ring and want that traditional solidification of their marriage. So it was nice to hear these details that show he really was working on it. 🥹
Also, another TWD scene that becomes extra emotional upon learning that Rick wanted to marry Michonne on the bridge is Michonne’s first scene post-Rick in 9.06.
Michonne goes to the destroyed bridge years later and essentially expresses how she’s still so committed to Rick and still fighting for him and them and their family. It’s almost like she's saying vows.
And little did Michonne know (because I’m sure Father Gabriel’s secret-squirrel behind didn’t tell her) that bridge is the very place Rick wanted them to exchange vows and get married. 😭
Rick truly does look at Michonne and see his future because he had big plans for the two of them in season 9. He was fully ready to have a wedding and a baby with her in his final TWD eps.
Also, in the season 8 premiere, Maggie asks Rick if he’s been thinking about what 'tomorrow' looks like and he confidently says "Yes I have" as well as telling Maggie, "After this, I’m following you."
I already always got the sense that part of that meant Rick was thinking about expanding his family by having a baby with Michonne. But I like how now after TOWL that s8 scene really reads like Rick was thinking about having a baby with Michonne and officially marrying her. That's what he wanted his 'tomorrow' to look like. 🥲
Tumblr media
And a Richonne bridge wedding would have been beautiful. 🥹 In my head, Rick and Michonne definitely go on to have a wedding with their kids a part of it now that they’re back home.
Father Gabriel says, “But I couldn’t see the future he described, so I sat on a log in the forest, and there at my feet in the dirt right in front of me was a ring. It seemed like it’d make a pretty nice wedding ring.”
See, see, see, even when others don’t see your vision, God gon’ see the vision. And He always makes a way. Amen. 🙌🏽
Tumblr media
And Richonne is blessed and highly favored so of course a ring showed up. 😇
But then...y’all, I have to side-eye Father Gabriel yet again with what he does next.
Father Gabriel says how he picked up the ring and thought to put it someplace that Rick would find it “because I could suddenly see that someday” and then this man takes the ring out, revealing that he’s been holding onto it all these years 🙃...
Tumblr media
Um imo, it would have been nice if shortly after the bridge he had told this story to Michonne and let her decide what she wanted to do with the ring.
Michonne clearly finds a lot of solace in these types of sentimental items and wore a wedding ring around her necklace. It could have possibly been a comforting thought for her to know this was the ring Rick might have proposed with since he was planning on them getting formally married with a priest and everything.
IDK, this was just making me feel like team family tried Michonne once again.
Tumblr media
Father Gabriel says sadly, “But then what happened, happened.” And Jadis, perhaps masking remorse but still as self-centered as always, just starts talking about how she looks forward to their next visit and the chance to just sit and talk and feel like who she was. How can she be so unmoved by the fact that she’s kept two people who love each other dearly apart for years? She got to have moments of feeling like who she was while Rick lost himself day by day. 😑
Jadis starts opening up a bit more about what she does and how it weighs on her but she’s committed to the mission and...they just can never make me like Jadis, tbh. 😪 Even when she's supposed to be showing her more human side I'm still just like...
Tumblr media
And then Father Gabriel gets one more side-eye from me when he gives Jadis of all people that ring. What? 🙃
Tumblr media
The only thing I like about that choice to give her the ring is that it’s kinda like the ring had a similar journey to Rick. It was stuck with Jadis for years but then eventually found its way to its rightful person - Michonne. 👌🏽
But otherwise, I was like 'Father G, why would you...???' Jadis of all people should hold onto the ring he found for Rick to give to Michonne?? 😪 Wasn’t exactly here for that choice. But that wedding ring leads to not one but two of my absolute favorite Richonne moments going forward so it’s all good now. 😌👌🏽
Tumblr media
gif cred: @perryabbott
In the present, Rick and Michonne engage in a car chase with Jadis.
Rick says they can’t kill her but Michonne begs to differ saying, “Oh we can.” I promise Michonne and I stay on the same wavelength at all times lol. 💁🏽‍♀️ Michonne,...
Tumblr media
Rick says, “I told you, she left a file about home for the CRM to find.” Michonne knows Jadis is just a neverending source of destruction when she says, “To destroy Alexandria because that’s what she does, Rick. She destroys!” Wrong where? 💯
Also, I love the little detail of seeing Michonne is wearing the M bracelet while she’s driving. Like they had to rush to get dressed and go chase after Jadis but Michonne still said I’m gonna remember to put on this bracelet from my man before we go. Here for it. 😊
Tumblr media
gif cred: @ricksmarlene
And then I so appreciate that we get a moment for Richonne to acknowledge the valuable and important life moments and milestones Rick missed because of Jadis as Michonne says, “She robbed us of you being there to see your son being born. Taking his first step.” 😭
Tumblr media
I love that she says robbed ‘us’ because Rick being there to see his son being born and RJ's first steps would have been such incredibly special moments for Rick and Michonne to share. 😢
And Jadis really took that from them. Because while yes Rick was going to need the kind of medical assistance the Civic Republic could provide to survive the injuries he got from that rebar, he eventually would have been healed up enough to go home and recover there and be present for at least the tail end of Michonne’s pregnancy and birth. If only he hadn’t been held captive somewhere he couldn’t leave. 😞
Then I absolutely adore that, upon hearing Michonne mention super special milestones that Rick has missed in his wife and son’s life, Rick is immediately on the kill-Jadis train as he says, “Okay, what do we do after she’s dead?” I love the switch-up and how he’s instantly on board. 😋 He knows Jadis has got to go for, as he said before, stealing their family.
Michonne says they’ll do whatever they have to do and sis is not playing. 👏🏽 Jadis ain’t making it out of today alive if Michonne has anything to do with it.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @nerd4music
Michonne rams into Jadis’ car and then they eventually get Jadis to crash off the path. As they continue their Jadis hunt down on foot, Jadis flees and enlists the help of that one noodle-less trio. She clearly has a scheme in mind because one thing about a snake...
Tumblr media
In the woods, Rick tells Michonne that the CRM's bases are spread out across the country and they have to figure out which one Jadis hid the dossier in. Rick suggests there might be a route where they can take Jadis alive and talk to her to get some info.
Tumblr media
Rick notes how Jadis clearly hated being called Anne and he thinks that the Anne-version of Jadis is still in there somewhere. (Both versions gotta go, in my book 🤷🏽‍♀️)
He says, “If there’s something she can give us first - something to keep Alexandria safe.” But Michonne feels they don’t need Jadis for that when she says, “We’ll keep it safe." And then, determined for Jadis to meet her maker before the sun sets, Michonne adamantly says, "But she’s gonna die.”
Tumblr media
You already know I'm with that energy. But I get where Rick is coming from too as he says, “We need to keep it safe without risking anything."
Rick then adds, "I couldn’t see some things. I couldn’t. You helped me. Maybe we can help her, and if we can’t...” And Michonne is in her full deadly mode as she finishes Rick’s sentence saying, “Then I can kill her.” She is not interested in deprogramming that lady. 😂
Tumblr media
gif cred: @taiturner
First; I love that Rick stays giving Michonne credit for how she helped him. He knows that after the mental warfare the CRM did on him, he was finally able to see the light - the real light not ‘the last light of the world’ - because of his wife.
And second; it’s admirable that Rick has it in his heart to want to help even someone who has done him so wrong. However…Jadis done had too many chances for help and she squandered it or took advantage of it every time cuz she’s a snake through and through. So the time for helping her has passed, which is why Michonne is hellbent on killing her.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @taiturner
Rick says, “Be my guest." because while he knows Jadis can be a resource to getting things they need, he also doesn't mind if she gets sent six feet under. I mean, killing her was a dream of his so he gets it. 👌🏽
Then Rick says, "Maybe just maim first.” and that delivery is great and always makes me smile. 😊 Rick trying to talk killing down to maiming - you can tell he knows his wife is gonna rip Jadis up somehow someway for everything she’s done to him and their family.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @taiturner
I don’t think Michonne even quite heard Rick's 'maim' comment cuz she spots some fresh blood on a tree and as a lethal woman on the hunt, she’s immediately ready to follow where it leads. And as they go, this pursuit leads to Richonne's final confrontation with Jadis. 😌👌🏽

Happy New Year!!! 🌟
First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you. Thank you for supporting me and my art. This past year was a good one for me, and that's thanks to all of you!
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I live by my art. This is my full-time job—it’s what pays my bills. And 2024 started off great: I received commissions every single month, something that hadn’t happened in previous years. That was a huge change for me, truly life-changing. I’m so grateful to everyone who decided to spend their money on my art, to trust me with your ideas, characters, and stories. It means SO much to me, and I say this from the bottom of my heart. I put everything I have into creating the best art I can for you, truly. When you message me saying how much you loved it and how much my work means to you, I cry for real. It moves me deeply. So thank you for all the kind words and support.
This is going to be a long message because I feel like I need to thank you and share a bit about myself. So, if you read all of this, you're a warrior, lol.
I don’t usually share much about myself or my personal life, but here are a few things. Well, I’m from Brazil—you probably already know that. I’m a self-taught artist, and honestly, I’m like that with everything I know how to do. I love learning on my own with the resources I have available. When I set my mind on doing something, I go all in. Drawing came into my life as a form of therapy, a way to focus on something other than my negative thoughts. I’ve always been a very anxious and depressive person and went through a lot of trauma that made things worse. Since I didn’t have the resources or support to seek professional help, I tried to find my own way—and that’s how I learned to draw!
I won’t say I’m 100% okay now because life hasn’t been easy for me. I lost my mom to breast cancer six years ago, and it had a massive impact on me and my mental health. She was my rock, my world, and losing her was devastating. She fought the disease for five years, and during that time, I was the one taking care of her, keeping the house running, and looking after my two younger siblings. I was just a teenager, but I suddenly had so many responsibilities. It messed me up a lot, but if I had to do it all over again just to have more time with my mom, I would.
I wish she were here to see how far I’ve come with my art because she was the only one who supported me back then. I know she’d be so proud of me for not giving up.
I used to do realistic traditional art before, spending a whole month on one piece. It was fun for a while, but it was just a hobby—I only sold a few pieces to family members. Then, in 2020, during the pandemic, I decided to switch to digital art. I wanted something that gave me more freedom to express myself creatively, and digital art offers that. So, I started learning. And guess who became my muse for this journey?
Yep, Pedro Pascal, lol. From my very first digital drawing, he was my go-to subject. And let me tell you, those early drawings weren’t great, poor guy, lmao. But thank God, I improved! I’m still drawing him to this day, and he’s been a huge reason I’ve gotten so many commissions since most of them are of his characters. I’m incredibly grateful to him and the roles he plays.
Anyway, I’m working on rebuilding myself, trying to move forward, achieve my goals, and take things step by step. This Christmas, I was able to buy a huge drawing tablet, which was a big milestone for me. I used to do everything on a small tablet, so this was a major upgrade—and it’s all thanks to everyone who commissioned me this year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I hope 2025 will be just as good. I hope you’ll all stick with me and keep asking for commissions, lol. I wish you all the best in life, that you achieve everything you dream of, and that you stay healthy. Please take care of your mental health too; it’s just as important as your physical health.
I have a lot of personal projects I want to work on this year—art ideas I’ve set aside for years that I hope to finish in 2025.
This year, I plan to open commissions every month. The only exception will be if my waitlist gets full before I open them officially, like who Dm me to reserve a slot earlier, which happened in December. My DMs are always open!
I’ll also be updating my price sheet, adding new information to my terms and conditions, and increasing my prices. It’s been about two years since I last updated them, so it’s time. But don’t worry—it’ll only be an increase of about $10-$15. I still want to keep my art affordable for everyone.
I’ll sort all of that out in the coming days, so stay tuned for updates!
My January waitlist is already open, and there are a few people in line. If you want to reserve a spot, feel free! Just keep in mind the price adjustment I mentioned earlier.
I think that’s everything! I know this was a lot of text, lmao.
Thank you again, everyone! Happy New Year, and I love you all! And I love you, Pedro Pascal!

Hello,
So I was turned by accident about a decade ago. I struggled. I won't lie, several people disappeared because of me before I understood what was happening and was able to ask for help. I stayed in self-exile from people I could hurt for a long time, only making contact by phone with my loved ones for over five years. A little extreme, I know, but it was the option I was most comfortable with and most of them understood. I got through it, re-entered society and now have a near-complete grip on my feeding to the point where I can have donors.
When I told my friends, sapio and creature, about this personal milestone they were so, so happy for me. They threw me an amazing party and a couple of them even surprised me by volunteering to be donors themselves. It honestly brought me to tears, I'm so, so lucky to have them.
I gave them links, information packets and ways to stop me should things ever go too far, then we started feeding sessions, and that's where it began.
As it turns out, one of my best sapio friends… Well, it happens that feeding gives her a lot of pleasure. When she discovered this, I asked regularly if she wanted to stop sessions, but she said no. I'm asexual and feeding doesn't do anything for me (probably for the best given my history) but I don't mind, honestly? It actually makes me feel better that she's getting something out of it in exchange, and after some research, the rules and aftercare surrounding kink helped make the whole experience more comfortable for me and my donors.
This has been going on for a good six months, but things between us have started getting… weird.
Her heartbeat pounds every time she sees me. I find her continually glancing down at my lips, even when we meet up outside of feeding. I'll be talking and realise she hasn't said anything for ages, she's just sitting there staring at me with this little smile that I've never seen before.
She touches me any chance she gets too. Don't get me wrong, physical affection is the best, big hugger, me. But while it's not excessive; it is noticeable that she leans on me, puts her head in my lap, and adjusts my outfit when we go out. Small things that we did before because we're friends, just more. A lot more.
She's also become a little… jealous over feeds? For her height and weight, I can only take so much blood before it’ll put her out of commission for more than a couple of days and she knows I have multiple donors - hell, she knows my other donors - but I think it upsets her now in a way it didn't before.
I'm really concerned that it's going to cause a rift of some kind, but I'm also worried that this has been bad for her in some way.
Have I given my friend some sort of Pavlovian response to me due to the nature of our feeds? Or worse, have I somehow put her under some kind of thrall?
I can reassure you with absolute certainty on one front, reader: it is not possible to accidentally enthral a person. People with extremely strong powers of magnetism might find they have unconsciously exerted more influence over those around them than they intended, but never to the degree of full thralldom. In practice, the effect is barely distinguishable from the effect of natural charm.
Indeed, there are plenty of figures in history who have been thought, at one point or another, to be exerting magical influence on those around them, only to prove to be enjoying nothing more than the inherent social benefits of good looks and elegant manners. The claim that Hollywood is full of malevolent nightfolk tricking the humble American everyman with their magical wiles, for example, is a favourite among conspiracy theorists.
I think it's also safe to rule out the possibility of Pavlovian conditioning. Your friend is an intelligent adult, and while she may associate your feeding sessions with general feelings of comfort and pleasure, she is still very much in control of her own behaviours.
I'm afraid the solution seems to me at once far simpler and, in its own way, far more complicated. She's flirting with you.
Your friend already felt close enough to you to volunteer as your donor. She trusts you and enjoys your company. To that, you added the potent mixture of spending time with her in an intensely personal and vulnerable situation, paying her close attention, and performing an act which gives her a great deal of physical, erotic pleasure.
In short, I think it very likely that if your friend does not already consider herself in love with you, she is well on her way. This might be a comfort, in some ways – the worst case scenario here is a broken heart. Painful, perhaps, but not usually life-threatening.
You need to talk to your friend directly. Get this all out into the open, and then work together to find a solution. I understand you're concerned this will create a rift between the two of you. But it is far better to take that risk than to try and sweep these feelings under the carpet and just hope everything will be alright.
And the thing is, everything really might be alright. It might be that nothing needs to change. If you feel comfortable with your friend's romantic feelings, and are able to enjoy her increased physical affection and personal attention, then by all means, enjoy yourself.
However, I want to be extremely clear upon this next point. You do not owe it to her – or to anyone else – to embark upon a romantic relationship. You did not “lead her on”. That kind of thinking is nothing more than social pressure to conform to amatonormative expectations of love, sex and romance.
If you don't want your relationship to take on a romantic dimension, you need to draw that line clearly and firmly, and stick to it.
Finally, if that is how you feel, I would also strongly recommend removing her from your roster of donors. The alternative just feels rather unnecessarily cruel.

Here we are. One year to the day since I created my account here on tumblr. It feels . . . almost surreal. I don't exactly remember where I thought I'd be by this point, but I don't think I pictured this! I've made so many good friends here, seen so much AMAZING art, and overall just had so much fun. For every one of you who follow me, and even those of you who don't, thank you. You all make me so happy. I treasure each and every like, reblog, comment, and ask.
I'm sitting here in awe as I rapidly approach another big milestone here and I couldn't be more thankful. Back when I made this blog, sure I had dreams of finding an audience and connecting with some of my favorite people here, but I didn't get my hopes up. So many instances in my life of never getting picked for one thing or another taught me that the odds are low and not in my favor, but the community here is just so different. People are good. They're nice and supportive and they love it when new people show up. The beginning was hard. There are quite a few of my early posts that still have zero notes. But I've got people hanging around now that like what I make and that honestly means the world to me. I feel seen. I feel like I matter.
Thank you all so much.
I wanted to shout out a few of my mutuals real quick for a super special thank you:
@cattyanon was my first ever follower and it nearly made me cry when I got the notification. It gave me so much hope and joy. It took me way too long to follow you back, Catty, but I'm so happy that I did! your AUs are all so creative and fascinating. Thank you for being my first supporter.
@boom-fanfic-a-latta is without a doubt my closest friend here on tumblr. It all started when I stumbled across Lily's original concept post for Tachophobia. I was instantly obsessed and before I knew it, Lily was DMing me. The rest is history. :) Lily, I can't thank you enough for being my friend. Words don't do this justice. I'll always be grateful to you for caring so much about me. I love all our AUs together and I love writing them with you. Thank you so much.
I followed @totaleclipse573 for Eclipse and stayed for everything else. I love how we feed each other's angsty thoughts. XD Total, I absolutely adore your OCs and I'm so happy that you've taken interest in mine. We may not have a DM together (I suspect that's because we're both too shy to be the one to start it XD) but our interactions are still beyond fun! Thank you for being a crazy fangirl with me.
I followed @estellardreams immediately when I found her here after reading one of her Sonic Prime fics on Ao3. I was caught so off guard when I got the notification that you followed me back, Estelle! XD I instantly rushed to plan a Christmas present drawing for you. (Yeah, I drew presents for each of my mutuals. I only had FIVE then.) Since then, I've gotten to know you better and I've had an absolute blast with you. You single handedly fueled the Tachophobia obsession over winter break and it was so insanely fun. (Seriously, you were posting like three or more chapters some of those days!!! You had me screaming XD) Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being Tachophobia's biggest fan and such a supportive friend.
@skywriter97 reached out to me to talk about TMOM and I followed her soon after that after reading some of her AMAZING writing. The two of us are writing buddies, exchanging advice and feeding each other ideas whenever we need it. Girl, I can't thank you enough for letting me ramble about Immortals to you and fueling my obsession enough that I finally started writing it for real. Whenever the prologue goes up, I'll be shouting you out in the notes because it's because of YOU that I finally got moving. Thank you so much.
This isn't all my mutuals. I have more that I don't talk to as much, but even if I didn't mention you by name here, I want you all to know that you mean the world to me. Four of you are personal heroes of mine that I never in a MILLION years dreamed that I'd actually get to be mutuals with. The rest of you are all around EXTREMELY cool people that I am super blessed to have you in my life.
As I end out this post, I once again want to give a massive thank you to ALL of you for sticking around. And thank you so much for making this year absolutely incredible in more ways than one. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

A Ron 'Slider' Kerner Imagine

Everything changes.
Warnings: Dead-beat dad, Mentioned Pregnancy, Mentioned Childbirth, Tooth Rotting Fluff

Texans have a saying or cautionary tale for nearly everything. Everything, it seems, except what you can tell your best friend's little sister when her no-good husband runs away from her and the baby she's carrying. When she'd called him, sobbing, he hadn't known what to do. What can you tell a twenty-five year old nine month pregnant woman you haven't seen in close to a decade? In the case of one Ron Kerner, mostly known as Slider nowadays, you don't say a word. Instead, you get emergency leave and hop onto the nearest transport home.
The tiny town of Cistern is exactly as he remembers it, hot, dry, and dusty. The sole bus trundles through town just as he pulls into the solitary gas station and steps out. It feels weird being back here. As much as Cistern hasn't changed, he knows he has. A quick stop at the pump station for fuel that sloshes sluggishly into the near empty tank of the truck he'd rented in Austin, and he's off again. Driving west a ways and then north until the only things he sees are scrub and the odd glimpse of cattle.
The turn-off to the Petersen ranch looks just like he remembers it, though the sign says Seresin now. Was that the name of the idiot who ran away? In all honesty, Ron can't be pressed to remember. All that matters is the girl waiting on the porch when the truck rattles to a stop. She looks the same as he remembers. Little Rebecca Petersen, not so little and decidedly not a Petersen anymore, but god does she not remind him still of the little thing that used to run around behind him and Danny, all knees, toothy grin and covered in freckles.
That grin, at least, is exactly the same. So is the teasing tone as she greets him as he walks up the front stairs. "Well, well, well, look at what the cat dragged in! If it isn't Ron Kerner, the big-shot Naval Aviator. What brings you back to sleepy old Cistern?"
"You know what." He can't help the sober turn to his voice as he hugs her gingerly, not sure of where to put his arms, not when the bulge of her belly is in the way. God, doesn't he wish he'd never said those words as soon as they left his mouth, though. Because that smile is gone, like the sun hidden by the clouds.
"You're here because of Brian." Her voice is tired, so tired that Ron can't help trying to make the girl he promised he'd protect smile again.
"Naw, Becks. I'm here for you and this little thing. Only in part for him."
It's words that he didn't know were true until 3 days later when he's standing in the maternity ward of the hospital and being handed a tiny squalling infant with a shock of honey hair and the tightest grip he's ever felt. The newly named Jacob Daniel Seresin seems to be just as enamored of Ron as Ron is of him. Say what you will about the little guy's deadbeat dad, but he made an awfully cute baby.
That instant shock of attachment stays with Ron for a long time afterward. He looks forward to receiving the letters Rebecca sends monthly, filled with polaroids of small Jake as he grows bigger and bigger. He can track every milestone on that little body from how he grows to the first tooth that comes painfully into that little mouth.
But he does not actually see the boy or his mama again for nearly five years. Things have changed considerably over that time. Ron's raked in another promotion, making him a full lieutenant. Ice met a girl and made her his wife, and to top it all off, they're both in Texas again. So on the first long weekend he gets, Ron hops into the old Ford truck he'd put together when he turned sixteen and drives straight up to Cistern.
This time, he drives up to the Seresin house to hear giggling and gets out of his truck just in time to catch a little boy in just a pair of shorts as he goes running past. It's the light dusting of freckles and toothy grin that he'd recognize anywhere which clues him into exactly who he's holding.
"Hey, kiddo. I'm your Uncle Ron. Dunno if you remember me." His voice is gruff as he turns the giggling brat upside down like he's looking for a way to turn a little robot off. Through giggles, he's gratified to hear the boy introduce himself as Jake. This time, the Rebecca he sees in the kitchen of the ranch house she grew up in and where she's raising her son is more like the happy teenager he'd left behind when he enlisted with her big brother. It still irks him that he couldn't protect Daniel. But he's going to protect Rebecca and Daniel's namesake as fiercely as he can.
"Hey, Becks. Y'missing something? I caught this little gremlin running around out there. Is this what you're looking for?" He can't resist tickling the bare tummy of the boy in his arms just to hear the musical giggles.
"Mama, Uncle Sly's here!" The piping voice of the little boy standing there all of two feet tall wearing just shorts is enough to crack even the crustiest aviator's stone heart. Rebecca's boy is a dusty, golden skinned marvel with his sun-bleached blonde hair and huge slightly gap-toothed grin. It feels like home, this place. That weekend, Ron spends more time out on a ranch than he has in years. Rebecca may have managed to keep the ranch going, but who's going to teach Jake everything he needs to know when his daddy isn't around? Anyways, that's Ron's rationale.
Soon after that, though, he's given orders. He's shipped all over the world, flying for the Navy. It seems like his star is on the rise, and while he's Lieutenant Commander and Captain Kerner in short order, he still stays Uncle Sly for one little boy who turns into a teenager back in Cistern seemingly overnight. Ron does his best to show up for all of the kid’s biggest milestones, but even he can’t hop onto a helo every time Jake has a baseball game or wins an award at school. Those weeks, Ron does his best to call and talk to the kid as much as he can.
He talks to Rebecca on the phone enough to know that the kid's struggling with something, something he won't talk to his Mama about. So the next time Ron's home, he heads to Cistern, as always with gifts in hand for the boy he loves like he is his own. Unlike prior snatched moments, Seresin Ranch is crackling with a tension Ron's never felt before. Jake's on the front porch, and Ron's suddenly struck by how grown up the boy seems, especially with how tall he is and the new manly breadth of his shoulders.
"Hey, Kiddo." As he tugs the kid into a hug, Ron can feel some tension leave those still small shoulders.
"Uncle Sly." Something's not right. Jake's not smiling today, not at all.
"What is it, kid?" A sudden jolt of fear rushes through Ron. "Where's your mom, kid?'
"She's in there, Uncle Sly, in the kitchen. With a man who's claiming to be my dad." The rage that burns in his chest is unlike any other that Ron's ever felt before. Sure enough, when he stalks into the kitchen, it's to see the one man he'd never wanted to see menacing Rebecca ever again.
"Brian." That one word is all it takes for Rebecca's shoulders to relax. Fifteen years have not treated Brian Seresin well. Not at all. His hair is graying and greasy, he's got a paunch and he's obviously drunk off his feet if the way he lists back and forth is any indication. "What are you doing back in Cistern?"
Ron's quick to gather Rebecca back behind him, knowing that Brian Seresin would never be bold enough to try to get to her, not through him, anyway. Jake’s followed him in, as always his shadow
"Wanted my woman back, Kerner. And my kid." He sniffs, wiping away yellow-tinged mucus on the leg of the dirtiest jeans that Ron's ever seen. "S'not fair, y'know? That you got to keep her and the brat while I was off. D'she treat y'well? She's great in bed, ain't she?"
It takes every fiber in his being to not deck the man for what he's saying about Rebecca. Thankfully Jake's holding his ma, otherwise he'd have launched himself at the fool to get his share of the beat down. It’s at that moment that Sly is glad they’d sent lawyers after Brian Seresin after Jake was born because it means he doesn’t have a claim on Rebecca or Jake anymore. They have the denial of parental rights and a divorce agreement to prove it. It doesn't take much more than a quirked eyebrow to get the man to spill the entire sordid tale. How he'd lost a lot of money and wanted to claim what he believed he was owed from Seresin Ranch.
"Call Sheriff Weatherby, Becks." When Ron finally speaks, the calm in his voice surprises even him. He sounds Ice-cold, which he guesses is what you get for spending the better part of a decade flying with the same person. "We've got an intruder on Seresin Ranch."
It doesn't surprise him in the slightest that it's Jake who picks up the landline and dials up Sheriff Weatherby, not at all. It's hours later, once one Brian Seresin has been carted away and Rebecca is asleep, that Ron finds Jake again. The kid's sitting in an old tire swing Ron had set up years ago, rocking idly while staring up into the endless expanse of stars in the sky above.
"So, that's him, huh? My pops, the man who walked out before I was even born?" He sounds so torn up about it, this gangly teen boy who loves his Mama to distraction and who would do anything to protect her. That's something they have in common.
"Yeah, kid." Ron doesn't try to hide the anger in his face, not now.
"Why did he come back? Why didn't he just stay away?" Ron's hand is gentle on the kid's back as he tries to think for a response.
"I dunno, kid. I wish he had never come back. Your Mama isn't the type to cry. But every time I've heard her cry it has been because of that man." The rage building in his chest causes a near imperceptible shake in his hands.
"Why didn't you ever marry Mama, Uncle Sly? You love her, I know you do. Then you can come home to us more often, can't you?" That one innocent observation is enough to have his entire world reeling. What would it be like? Having Becks to come home to? To have this kid, her son, as his own? Is he so easy to read that a teenager can tell what his most closely guarded secret is?
"I dunno kid. But enough about me. What's eating at you?" Ron's a little scared of the answer he's going to get.
"I want to fly, Uncle Sly. Like you do, like Uncle Daniel did." Jake's green eyes are all Rebecca's, all Daniel's and Ron can see the boy he loved like a brother in Jake's face. "D-d'you think I can do it?"
"It's dangerous, kid. But yeah. If there was anyone who could do it, it'd be you. You’ve got your mom’s determination and all of her support, too. Just don’t forget that you’ve got people who love you waiting for you, and you’ll be all set."
Those are obviously words Jake holds close to his heart. Because, before Ron's hit Vice-Admiral, Jake's already at the academy. He's taking Annapolis by storm, making his Mama and his dad, because thanks to the kid's prodding it's Ron and Rebecca Kerner now, incredibly proud. Ron's happy to find he has to wipe away tears when he sees his son, his son, get his wings a few short years later. Then there's another Kerner's star on the rise. His son’s.
He keeps a finger on the pulse of every deployment, every test, and beams with pride to see Jake graduate from Top Gun. That pride sits warm in his chest even as he gets a call from the one California number he'd memorized that he could never forget.
"Mr. Iceman! How're you doing?" The relationship between pilot and RIO hasn't changed over the past years. Neither of them flies anymore, but the bonds they built over 30 years ago haven't changed.
"It's about your kid, Sly." Ron can hear the hoarseness creeping into Ice's tone even now.
"What's going on, Tom?" After a life's service to the US Navy, Rear Admiral Ron 'Slider' Kerner isn't surprised to hear that Jake's been selected for a special detachment. The dad in him, though? He's terrified shitless. Nearly 30 years of loving that boy doesn’t feel like enough all of a sudden, not when Jake's going to be sent on a mission so dangerous that talking about it feels like a jinx. Even the heads up from the COMPACFLT doesn't help.
It's a tense few weeks in Texas. Ron terrorizes the base in Corpus Christi, his mind in Miramar with his son while his body is in Texas. Rebecca is equally distraught. Then Ron gets another call that fills him with sadness all over again. It is Sarah calling, "Hey Ron. Just wanted to tell you that he's gone. Tom's gone. The cancer. It came back with a vengeance. The doctors couldn't do anything. He passed away this morning."
During the entirety of the service, Ron can't help but feel like he would've given anything to see his best friend again one more time before he died. It's sad reconnecting with the rest of their 1986 cohort at the bar later. It’s even worse seeing his son stand somberly kitted out in his own whites across the way from him. He doesn’t, can’t go near him, mainly because nobody knows that Jake is Rear Admiral Kerner’s kid. But he can't help but feel like Tom would've wanted him to hug his boy instead. So that's what Rear Admiral Ron Kerner does. He hugs his son, tight, as many times as he can before he leaves. He watches from the docks as the carrier departs and waits with bated breath.
Rebecca channels her nerves into baking. She fills the house they rent off base with pastries, cookies, cakes and pies, most of which are Jake's favorites. Then it’s a waiting game. Ron calls in every favor he has in order to get more information on the mission Jake’s on, really for anything he can get. As it turns out, there is very little information that even an admiral can get. So all he can do is hold Rebecca close and pray. It’s frankly the longest three days of his life. He’s more tense than he was even during the Leyte Gulf incident, which feels like a world, a lifetime ago. That first call from Jake they get has his knees weak. The relief coursing through his system is too good to be true. So’s the first look he gets of his son when the carrier docks two days later.
The milling crowd of families lets out a roar of excitement when the first of the ship’s crew sets foot on shore. Ron wraps an arm around Rebecca, and keeps an eagle eye on the waves of departing sailors looking for aviator green flight suits. The crowd clears piece by piece and they still haven’t seen their boy or any of the aviators. They’re some of the only people waiting, and Ron can feel Rebecca’s tremors as she clutches at her necklace and rears up onto her tiptoes every once in a while. She sags against his chest and that’s when Ron finally sees their golden boy. He looks exhausted, but he’s safe, he’s home. Rebecca runs right for him first, and Ron can’t help his grin when he sees how tall Jake is in comparison to his Mama. The kid’s not shy about his love for Rebecca either. He introduces her to the aviators and then Ron’s being beckoned forward.
“And this is my pop, Admiral Kerner.” He’s got a shit-eating grin on his face and god if that doesn’t remind Ron of Daniel again.
“Hey, kid.” Ron can’t help the fond grin on his face or the amusement when he sees Jake’s squadron rise into salutes the minute they hear his title. There’s a face in his squadron that Ron didn’t think he’d ever see again. There’s also somebody nearby who he hasn’t seen in decades.
“Baby Goose. Mav.” Ron’s nod is slight.
“Hey Sly. A kid huh?” Ron can’t resist smiling as he hugs the shorter man.
“Yeah, Mav. I had to catch up.” Watching Becks fawn over Jake again is everything he’s ever wanted.
“He’s a good one, you know, Sly?” As Ron stands shoulder to shoulder with Pete Mitchell again, watching their boys realize that they’re closer than they ever could have known, Ron knows one thing. He may have never intended to be a dad, but standing at the docks thirty years later, he knows he wouldn't have wanted to do anything else.

Strangers on Vacation | Part 1
Tumblr media
Summary: After a bad breakup on what was supposed to be a fun 3 year anniversary week long cruise, Reader is stranded on the boat in the middle of the ocean. With plans to disembark at the port the next day but nowhere to sleep tonight, she accepts a spare bed from the stranger over dressed for a vacation. Otherwise known as Spencer Reid. Pairing: Spencer/fem reader, plus size reader, mid size reader (whichever you imagine while reading) Category: Fluff, angst, meet cute (sorta?) BAU on mandatory vacation time Warnings: emotional abuse, body shaming, (at the beginning breakup), alcohol drinking/mentions, self-conscious thoughts (Eventual spice but not in this part) please let me know what I missed! Word Count: 2k Notes: I wrote most of this in august, finally feeling up to posting! Part one of 3 or 4. This first chapter is a bit heavy with the breakup and how it effects readers thoughts on herself, but the main story is about loving yourself and self worth and of course Spencer and his crush at first sight. And the BAU on a much needed vacation! I imagine later seasons Reid, with the curls and facial scruff and stuff.
Also on AO3 Masterlist
I don’t know why I insisted on celebrating our three year anniversary on a week long cruise ship vacation. Three years wasn’t even that much to celebrate. One year? Sure, you can celebrate all you’ve learnt about each other and been through as you navigated that first year together. Five years? Absolutely. What a milestone. By five years you’ve probably gotten a place together, started planning a family, or maybe even gotten married. But three? Stuck in the middle there between two big celebrations. Little old three. How boring.
Maybe that’s why I wanted the big hoorah. A romantic week away together. After all, in our three years of being together, we still lived in our own apartments, never talked about children, and the thought about marriage was enough to make my stomach turn. Maybe this vacation would change that.
I was very, very wrong.
The arguing started, you guessed it, three hours into the trip. Just about little things at first. Like which side of the counter in the bathroom belonged to who. Mine was the right side, of course. It’s always the right side. Any time I spent the night at John’s place, his stuff was always on the left and I would place mine on the right. But apparently I was wrong, and he always had his stuff on the right side, as he ever so kindly pointed out by yelling. I’m sure our cruise cabin neighbours were loving us already.
Then it was about what activity we were going to do first. I suggested dinner and a show in the entertainment lounge, since it was nearing dusk and well past time to eat. But he pushed back, wanting to head straight for the main deck swimming pool with the swim up bar and jacuzzis. We argued for about five minutes before I relented. I excused myself to the bathroom to calm down and change into my swim suit.
For this trip I had bought some new super cute bikini’s. And in honour of my first time on a boat, and also for the first night on the cruise, I chose to wear the bikini with blue and white stripes. A nautical vibe that I found very fitting for the occasion.
However, when I emerged from the bathroom donned in said bikini because I hadn’t put my cover up dress on yet, John looked me up and down with a scowl before huffing out a breath and turning away. He busied himself unpacking his suitcase, already wearing his own swim trunks and a white t-shirt.
“What?” I asked to his back, since he apparently refused to look at me.
“Nothing,” he spat out.
“Clearly it’s something. You’re acting annoyed or disgusted or something.” I replied while walking to my own suitcase to dig out that cover up dress.
“I am disgusted,” he stated. He stilled his movements as I neared closer to the bed with our suitcases on top.
“At what?” I asked curiously. I found the dress and held it against my body, trying to judge if it would be too weird to wear overtop of blue and white stripes. But it was a white dress, so I figured it should be fine.
“At you,” John answered. “You’ve let yourself go.”
My heart fell to the floor, as did the dress I was holding. I watched, speechless, as John finally turned around to stare at me in disgust. His gaze went from my head down to my toes and back up again. Where normally that kind of gazing would be taken as someone appreciating my body, I could feel the distaste radiating off of him.
“What?” I managed to breathe out. Maybe I didn’t hear him correctly.
“You’ve let yourself go,” he repeated. “Look at you, you’re even spilling out of your bikini. I thought maybe when you said we were going on a cruise you would take it as an opportunity to get in shape again. Apparently I was wrong.”
He took my silence as an excuse to keep talking. Ranting about all of the things that were evidentially wrong with me. Too much fat on my thighs, too much around my waist, too much gathered on my stomach, even my breasts were too big now. I wrapped my arms around myself as he talked, trying to cover up and hide away from his harsh words, until eventually he said something that snapped me out of it.
“I don’t even want to be seen out in public with you looking like that,” he snarled.
“Well then, you don’t have to,” I snapped back. “Because this is over. We’re done. I’m leaving.”
“That’s it? You’re not even going to fight for this relationship?” He yelled as he watched me roughly shove the cover up dress over my head.
“Fight for it? By doing what, loosing weight? Starving myself so I can ‘meet your standards’?” I laughed harshly in his face. “You don’t see me complaining to you about your balding head.”
His hands immediately went to touching his hair as he turned to find the nearest mirror.
“My hair is not balding,” he whined.
“Try taking a mirror to the back of your head and then tell me that,” I said.
Unfortunately he wasn’t balding as much as I would have liked in this moment. The patch of visible skin on the crown of his head was hardly noticeable to the average passerby. But having known and been with John for years, I was seeing the pattern increase a little bit each year. Not fast enough now for my anger though. I used to think it was kind of cute. A reminder that we were aging together. Every time I would notice it I would get visions of us old and grey and bald, sitting on rocking chairs together as we complained about the days youths.
Now I just wanted to see that head of his shoved into some mud or something.
Angrily, I shoved my bathroom belonging’s back into my suitcase, roughly pulling the zipper to get it to close. I picked up dress from the floor, quickly pulling it over my head as I shoved my sandals back onto my feet, made sure I had my phone, and started to drag the suitcase with me out the door.
“Where do you even think you’re going to go? We’ve already left the port!” John yelled as I neared the door.
“I don’t know, and I don’t fucking care! As long as it’s away from you!” I yelled right back and stormed out the door.
He made a good point, I realized as I stalked down the hallway. We were already floating in the middle of the ocean by now, with the sun almost completely set. But there was no way I would be sharing a bed with that asshole for the next week.
How could he even say those things about me? And to my face, no less. It’s true. I did gain weight over the last year. I went up three pant sizes and two bra cup sizes. But I figured since we’d already been together for a while that he was used to me and my size. He never gave any indication before. Sure when we met I was small, but I was also younger then and had a very active job. Then I got laid off and replaced that job with an office job, took up baking as a side hustle, and obviously I taste tested everything I made.
Determined to figure out my sleeping arrangements before it got pitch black outside, I pushed all thoughts of John into the back of my mind. I made my way to the cruise ship lobby, where a few people were milling about looking at excursion brochures or just sitting in some of the overly big chairs decorating the room.
“Excuse me?” I spoke softly to the front desk attendant as to not draw attention from the other guests in the lobby. “Hi, I’m from room 209. I was wondering if there’s a room I can switch into please.”
“I’m sorry, Miss. We’re sold out.” The attendant informed me with a most definitely fake sad face.
“You’re kidding. A cruise ship this big and you don’t even have one extra room?”
“We had a few large groups book up multiple chunks of rooms. So no, I’m sorry. We don’t have extra space.”
Not wanting to stir up attention and make a scene, I thanked them for their help even though they were unhelpful, and turned away from the desk.
“Great,” I mumbled to myself as I walked away.
“Excuse me? I have an extra bed in my room if you need a place to stay.” I heard the voice coming up behind me. I slowed my pace until the person came to a stop in front of me.
The voice belonged to a very handsome tall man, with wild curls, a bit of facial hair, soft eyes, and a small smile. He wore a rather odd outfit for a cruise ship. Brown dress pants and a purple collared shirt with a knitted vest overtop. I was sweating already in a bikini and a light white dress, so he must be scorching underneath that getup.
“Oh, thank you so much for that offer, sir. But I’ll just bunk with one of my other friends, it’s okay.” I told him, not wanting to let some stranger in on my relationship problems. Before he had a chance to reply I walked off as fast as I could without it seeming like I was trying to run away from him. I’m sure his intentions were good. But you can’t trust people randomly like that.
I ended up wandering the ship for another hour, passing by the entertainment lounge that I had so badly wanted to be in hours ago. I also passed a games room, a gym which gave me bad feelings after the breakup that just occurred, as well as a library. With options running slim, I slipped into that library and rolled my suitcase to a secluded chair in the back. It was already pretty late, and I was so exhausted from the day of traveling to get to the boat and the events that followed, so as soon as I curled up in the chair I fell asleep.
It felt like a second later when someone was tapping on my shoulder waking me up. Groggily, I cracked my eyes open and looked up at the offender.
“Miss, I’m sorry, but it’s after midnight and the library is closed. You can’t sleep in here,” they said. It was a staff member who hardly looked old enough to be legal drinking age. When I didn’t reply, they continued. “If you don’t leave I’m going to have to call security to escort you out, and I really don’t want to have to do that.”
Well great. There went my plan to spend the night in the library and get off the boat at tomorrows dock and somehow figure out my way back home to Virginia. Before I could even stand up from the chair, the man from earlier was back at my shoulder.
“Hey, there you are. I’ve been looking for you for ages, sorry we got split up before I could give you the room key.” He was saying as he helped me get out of the chair. He looked over to the employee, “Sorry, we were meant to meet up when we got on the ship and somehow ended up getting separated. I didn’t mean for her to fall asleep in the library after hours. We’ll be on our way now.”
I was too tired to protest as I let the man grab my suitcase and escort me out of the library. We went up the elevator to the top floor, which my tired brain knew was the floor with the most expensive rooms. It was hard to pay attention to where we were going as I was pretty much asleep on my feet, but eventually we arrived at his room. I saw enough of it to confirm that he wasn’t lying about having an extra bed, before I was falling onto said bed and promptly passing out.

The Date
Happy birthday to my sweet bestie @fawnandshadows
I wish you all the very best for your next quarter century. Have a wonderful day and an amazing year ahead.
Preface:
This is a bonus chapter for The Kings' Wife. I've had the idea of a Ruhn and Elain date for a long time, but did not want to include it in the story. It contains some interesting background about Ruhn, but otherwise, it's just indulgent fluff and smut.
Warning: Explicit language and explicit smut (anal sex)
Tumblr media
Fenrys Moonbeam was right.
Was it embarrassing? Perhaps. But Ruhn Danaan King was never one to follow prescribed rules. He was never ‘normal’ and wasn’t one to hit all of life’s milestones when he was supposed to have.
He started walking at 10 months, talking before he was two, reading when he was barely five. Early. He was early in everything. He didn’t remember when he began drawing, maybe he was still in the womb, when he began seeing images and colours. He skipped grades, because he was too smart, but then he was held back, because of his behavioural issues.
He kissed a girl when he was six. His girlfriend, Millie Kalinowski. Well, technically, he had two girlfriends when he was six–Millie and Aurora Esposito. An overachiever even then. It was Millie’s birthday: he stole her cupcake, she called him a ‘butthole’ and then he smacked a big juicy one on her cheek. She hit him and ran away, crying.
That was his first foray into romance.
He didn’t kiss anyone else until he was almost fifteen.
He remembered the kiss, because that was also the day when he killed someone for the first time. Not a crime of passion, or uncontrolled rage of a teenager. He, and his brother Azriel, found and tracked the people who had kidnapped Azriel years before, beat him, tortured him, and attempted to rape him. Azriel broke his wrist in order to escape, and succeeded, but he never forgot. The two of them spent years trying to locate the men who held Az prisoner in an abandoned farm in upstate New York. It was an intricate and thorough investigation–the first time they worked so closely together on a task that consumed them. Along the way, they built a network of informants, spies, made connections, found hackers among gamers, and guys who were really, really good with money, and breaking into banks and accounts, or discovering hidden assets and identities. It helped that neither he, nor Azriel, looked like they were fourteen. They were big, brawny and muscular, their balls dropping early and testosterone flooding their growing bodies and making them strong, agile and by then, already six feet tall. They had money, they could pay, and when someone talked back, they had other ways of convincing people to do what they needed.
Ruhn remembered his first kill pretty well–a guy named Bobby, a scrawny, but wiry Irishman, who moved fast, and was an ace with a knife. Ruhn’s first kill wasn’t elegant or cerebral. He beat Bobby to death with a baseball bat. The shower of warm, salty blood is what he remembered the most from that evening. Az slitting another guy’s throat, his grip on the blade so strong, that he almost decapitated him. Together, they killed two more that night–but they were no longer counted as the ‘first kills’.
The murders gave him a high like he’d never felt before and his skin itched from the adrenalin and the memories. He thought that he wouldn’t mind doing that again. He was so jacked up that he wandered the streets until it was late, unable to settle down, unwilling to go home, replaying the murders in his mind. It was awesome! At last, grateful that he had his fake ID in his pocket, he stopped at some dive bar. He wasn’t much of a drinker, and hardly knew how to order a drink properly, but he recalled his father’s bar and the bottles of Jameson’s whiskey on the glass shelves, and figured that he’d order that. He thought that he did it like a pro, but the bartender gave him an assessing look, which told him that he wasn’t fooling anyone. But Ruhn was big and bad, and already sported a tattoo sleeve, and no one in their right mind would want to mess with him over a shot of whiskey.
When he went to take a piss, he was accosted by a girl. A working girl? Maybe. He never found out. A little buzzed from the drinks and the kills, he liked the feeling of her hands on his body, when she slipped her fingers under his t-shirt. She was thin and delicate, and reminded him of Audrey Hepburn. She behaved in a very un-Audrey way however, when she tugged him into the bathroom, dropped the latch on the door and then dropped to her knees in front of him. Well, that was fucking unexpected. Having his dick inside the wet warmth of her mouth was incredible, and when she began to suck, it was borderline sublime. He understood the appeal of blowjobs very, very quickly, watching her pink tongue lave over his shaft, her eyes hooded, her hands grasping his thighs, her face looking like she was truly enjoying it. And when he gripped the back of her head, trying not to be forceful, but kind of failing, though she didn’t seem to mind, the sensation was even better. The sense of control, of utter dominance, the pleasure of thrusting into that willing mouth, the feeling of his cockhead bucking into the back of her throat, the pathetic little noises that she was making–it was unforgettable and unbelievable. It was a shame that he didn’t last as long as he would’ve liked to, but he lasted a decent amount of time for a fourteen year old. Like a good two and a half minutes.
He came in her mouth, but she spit it out discreetly, which he didn’t love so much, but he couldn’t be choosy.
Wiping her lips, she winked at him and then asked a question that murdered his boner completely.
“How old are you, stud?”
God. It was only marginally better than her asking him if it was his first time.
“Old enough,” he grunted in response, and then fished out a hundred dollar bill and slipped it under the strap of her bra. She didn’t argue or anything, but got up and then pecked him on the corner of his mouth, biting on his lip ring and making him hiss.
And that’s how he got his first real kiss.
But Fen was correct–Ruhn’s never been on a date. Ruhn had less than zero interest in dating anyone, and no one really wanted to date him either. The girls, the brave ones, thought that they did, but then, they quickly changed their minds. He wasn’t romantic. He wasn’t kind. He was barely nice. He fucked hard. Without tenderness or words or emotions. At least he always made sure that they came. However, he rarely, if ever gave head, didn’t cuddle, wasn’t interested in staying over or having them sleep over at his apartment at the hotel, and if he was being honest, he wouldn’t date him either. He was kind of an asshole.
As usual, his life didn’t follow any normal patterns. He went from a post-kill blowjob, to a little kiss, and then nothing at all. During his formative years, he only had four girls that he fucked, and tried as he might to build a reputation as a manwhore at his boarding school, he couldn’t. He dominated the scene, he was one of the most feared guys in school, respected, obeyed, admired, but a player, he was not.
His twenties were wild. A whole decade drenched in blood and cum.
Now, he was almost 32 years old.
And Ruhn Danaan King has never been on a date.
The way he saw it, it wasn’t the end of the world, but it was weird. It definitely wasn’t normal.
Azriel’s been engaged to Morrigan. And then he married Elain. Those were pretty serious plays in the dating department.
Fenrys couldn’t stop dating! He dated everyone. He liked them, cherished them, adored them, used them, left them, and moved on to the next one.
Cassian’s been in a couple of semi-long term relationships, and also dated casually. And now, he was after the eldest Archeron sister, though without much success.
Rowan was once married, and then widowed. He was raising his four year old son by himself, and was now seriously involved with a girl named Aelin, and it definitely seemed like things were getting serious between the two of them.
Rhysand’s been with Feyre for almost 3 years now. Yes, he was a wealthy playboy prior to meeting her, but the pretty Bohemian artist enchanted him instantly and all women ceased existing for him.
Ruhn…Well, there was that one time when he took his not-exactly-wife, but kind-of-wife Elain Archeron to Subway. He bought her a sandwich and Fanta. He took her to a museum as well, but truthfully, none of it was planned. Initially, he just wanted to tattoo her, and then he ended up fingering her and after that they went out on a whim. Ruhn was mostly curious about Elain’s knowledge and interest in art, which, to his great relief, was present–she wasn’t an expert, but she was well-versed in popular art and had appreciation for it.
The thing was…well, Ruhn was hopelessly, passionately and irreversibly in love with Elain. He fucking loved his wife. Looking back, he wasn’t even sure when and how it happened. At what point did infatuation and mild obsession turn into love, into adoration, into soul-mating. Or, as Elain said, heart-mating with him.
He didn’t mind sharing. That was the agreement, and it was the healthiest way for the four of them to live and exist in their relationship. They shared Elain and there was enough love in her for all of them, to satisfy them sexually and emotionally. Ruhn wouldn’t have it any other way. However, it didn’t mean that he didn’t want her for himself at times. Just the two of them, doing things as a couple, having a private relationship that was exclusively theirs. To some extent, it was happening between Elain and the men in her life–each one had a marriage with her, which was both public, but also private.
Ruhn, however, figured that he wanted to have a proper date with his girl.
Elain was young and a romantic at heart, and obviously she wanted dates and flowers and all that cheesy shit that Ruhn knew nothing about. There was a reason why she screamed at Fenrys to fuck her ‘romantically’. He was the only one who would. From Ruhn, Elain came to expect rough–marks on her hips, imprints of his teeth on her skin, hair pulling, swollen nipples and aching pussy. She liked the pain, but she was under no illusions that Ruhn would be tender or sweet. And Ruhn was determined to prove her wrong.
He couldn’t ask Fenrys–who would probably know and have a decent recommendation, but would also make it bigger and better for Elain, and would leave Ruhn in the dust. So that was out of the question. Azriel would just steal the idea, hog Elain, and leave Ruhn in the dust. And then, there was Google.
~
Cassian made it to the office early, as usual. He wanted to stop by Nesta’s office and bring her coffee, but then he thought better of it. Not the coffee part, because he would’ve gotten her that gross green water that she called ‘tea’--but because it seemed to him like Nesta truly moved on and was interested in Eris Vanserra. He didn’t want to think about it. Didn’t want to wound his bleeding heart anymore than it’s been sliced open already. Nesta was a bad idea. Always a terrible idea that promised to end badly, and here he was, being smacked in the face by his terrible ideas.
“Oh hey,” Cassian stopped abruptly, seeing his cousin Ruhn sitting in the still-empty room, long legs crossed and propped on the desk. “Why are you here? Is Elain okay?”
Somehow, and he didn’t know how it happened, but Cassian began worrying about Elain. It was like a contagion that was passed down to him and his men from Azriel.
“Yeah, she is good,” Ruhn said lazily, putting his phone away.
“What’s up?” Cassian took a sip of his coffee.
Ruhn was unpredictable and Cassian never knew what would come out of the man’s mouth. Could be something nice. Could be something utterly horrible.
“Do you have Pinterest?”
Yep. Weird.
His brow knitted in confusion, and Cassian asked,
“What?”
“Pinterest. Do you have it?”
“No. I am a man,” he reminded Ruhn slowly, enunciating every word.
Ruhn sighed and nodded, shoulders falling.
“Yeah, I get it. I figured I’d ask.”
“And you thought that I’d be the guy to have a Pinterest account?” Cassian raised his brow at him. “I feel like Fen would be more likely,”
“Maybe,” Ruh agreed with another sigh. “But I can’t ask him.”
“What do you need on Pinterest?” Now his interest piqued and Cassian bit into his blueberry muffin, looking at Ruhn expectantly.
“Ideas…”
“What kind of ideas?”
Ruhn mumbled something unintelligible, but Cassian wasn’t going to give up and pressed him.
“Come on. What?”
“For a date!” Ruhn snapped, his normally dark, placid face suddenly turning kind of red.
“You need ideas for a date?” Cassian was confused. “With whom?”
“Elain!” Ruhn opened his arms, like he was talking to an idiot. “Who else?”
“You are taking Elain on a date? And you need Pinterest?”
“Whatever man, you won’t understand,” Ruhn rose and grunted dejectedly.
“Wait, wait. I am trying to. Let’s think about this.”
Exhaling loudly, Ruhn explained,
“I want to date my wife. Okay? And I want to go on a date with her–but not just a lame dinner or something. I don’t want to sit in some restaurant, but I also don’t want to go to some flower show! I don’t want people around. Just the two of us. Our date.”
“I hear you,”
“So I was thinking, I want to do a picnic,”
“That’s a good idea!” Cassian nodded enthusiastically.
“But I don’t know how to do a picnic!” Ruhn ran his hand through his hair, huffing in frustration. “I googled it, and it’s giving me all this shit that I don’t know how to do!”
“Like what?”
“I dunno, man. Fried chicken and deviled eggs and potato salad,”
Cassian smirked.
“Buy her a bucket of chicken,” he laughed.
“I am serious, Cass,” Ruhn said, sounding nervous and hopeless. “What am I gonna do? I want to do something nice and romantic and I can’t show up with a bucket of KFC chicken and some potato salad. She’d think I am insane.”
Rapping his long fingers on the desk, Cassian thought and muttered,
“Okay, okay. Let’s think about it. I think you googled stuff for 4th of July,”
“I just typed in ‘picnic ideas’,” Ruhn explained defensively.
“What does Elain like? Sweets, right?”
“Have you seen Elain with an eclair?”
“Yeah…She likes sweets and pastries. So buy some champagne, a few pastries…No offence, brother, but Elain seems like a cheap date.”
Ruhn laughed,
“I mean, yeah, she is.”
“Let’s face it, this is a chick who loses her mind over soccer and is ready to throw fists. She likes beer. She eats Fen’s horrid English sandwiches with white bread and fucking potato chips inside…This is not a fancy girl!”
“I know…But I also know that Lorcan made her pasta! And took her to the opera! I can’t beat that,”
“Well, of course you can beat that. But Elain likes beer and tacos. I mean, I don’t think she’d be opposed to you cooking dinner for her, but I also think she’d like you as you are,”
“A talentless hack?”
“Don’t cook her a crap meal, if you don’t know how to cook,” Cassian recommended bluntly. “Do something nice and something she’d enjoy. It would go a long way.”
Ruhn got up and squeezed Cassian’s shoulder.
“Alright, man, thanks!”
Cassian smiled and told him gently,
“I don't think you need to worry. It’s not like you have to close the deal.”
“Yeah,” Ruhn agreed. “But it’s also for me.”
~
Meet me at the King Tower, on the 44th floor at 8 pm
And…send.
Elain: What’s happening?
She responded almost immediately and Ruhn smiled.
Ruhn: Are you going to meet me?
Elain: I will. But should I worry?
Ruhn: Don’t need to worry.
Elain: What is this about?
Ruhn: Surprise.
Elain: I hate surprises! Tellllll meeeeeeeee.
He chuckled, imagining her cute little face, and how she was probably bouncing on her heels, like she always did when she wanted something.
Ruhn: Nope, beautiful. But you can lube up your ass for me, like a good girl.
A lengthy pause.
He frowned wondering if he pushed it too hard.
He wanted to make it a joke, but it was his way of asking for it, and he hoped that she understood.
Elain: What? You wanna do the butt stuff?
Ruhn: When don’t I want to do the butt stuff? Will you surprise me?
Elain: I thought you were the one doing the surprising?
Ruhn: You want me to lube up my ass? As my lady commands.
The conversation made him smile. Their conversations always devolved into something ridiculous, but that’s what he loved about Elain. He didn't know what to expect, and that was good.
He wouldn’t have minded some anal. Just the two of them. For the first time, between Ruhn and Elain.
The first time was special. Absolutely unforgettable. Completely, utterly amazing. Was it the best anal he’s ever had? Yes. Yes. Yes. No contest. But his brothers were there, there was the nervousness and the pressure of the ‘first time’ and now, he yearned to relive it again, but intimately, with just Elain and him.
But first, the date.
~
Elain had no idea what was going on. Though she tried to figure it out and even texted Ruhn a few times during the day, he didn’t respond or was very vague in his answers. Which annoyed and frustrated Elain to no end, and she couldn’t concentrate at the shop and even messed up a bouquet and had to re-make it.
Therefore, by the time it was 7:46pm, she was stomping across the lawn, heading from her house to the looming skyscraper that was the King Tower, which housed the King Enterprises, Azriel’s office, their businesses and the security arm of business. She took herself up to the 44th floor, using the secret elevator which only the family utilised. Floors 44-53 were where most of the businesses and offices were located, but it being almost 8 pm, she didn’t expect anyone to still be here. However, once she came out of the elevator and walked down the dimly lit hallway which had an original Rothko hanging on the wall, she was stopped in her tracks, because she saw Ruhn. And some woman. And she was the type of woman that was impossible to miss–statuesque, wearing neck-breaking stilettos, reedy thin, with perfect make up at eight in the evening! She wore an expensive satin blouse with a giant bow on the side and an elegant, tight skirt. Ruhn looked relaxed, propped against the wall, his massive arms folded over his chest. He wore a Guns-n-Roses t-shirt, black jeans and boots. His long hair was braided in a tight, neat braid. The woman said something, her perfectly manicured hand lightly touching his forearm, and he laughed, easily and openly. Then he said something, and she laughed as well, throwing her head back and exposing her throat to him.
They looked like they knew each other, because there was familiarity and an ease in their gestures.
Elain didn’t think of herself as a jealous person, but she totally was. She didn't like her men talking to strange, attractive women. Especially when she looked the way that she looked right now–wearing Converse, cutoff denim shorts and Ruhn’s hoodie, which she picked up on the way out, because the evening was promising to be chilly. She dabbed some lip gloss on her lips and her wild hair was barely tamed in a messy bun.
Ruhn noticed her at last, his handsome face breaking into a welcoming smile. It was a nice smile. Genuine and happy. Like he was glad to see her, and the glamazon next to him didn’t matter. Ruhn was not an expressive man. Generally speaking, he maintained the same expression around people and whether he was angry, happy, hungry or murderous remained a secret for most. But Elain knew how to read him, just as she knew how to read Azriel. And currently, Ruhn was thrilled.
“Ellie, you made it!” he gave a brief, disinterested hug to the gorgeous woman, and she winked at him and then smiled at Elain, as she passed them by and headed to the elevator.
“Well, you said 8 o’clock,” Elain crossed her arms and let some of her displeasure bounce off of him. Let him know that she was pissed.
“I did!” he nodded and then wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “And you are here.”
“Who was that?” she demanded rudely and impatiently.
He glanced at the elevator and the shrugged,
“Oh, that’s Em,”
“Who is she?”
He grinned and then growled and butted her face with his, biting softly on the apple of her cheek. She attempted to swat him away, screeching loudly, but he only laughed and licked her face like a dog.
“You are gross!”
“Yeah, grossly in love with you,” he agreed and then stopped and cupped her face in his hands.
She looked up at him, feeling both insecure and elated.
“I love you too,” she murmured quietly. “That girl is very beautiful,”
“She is,” he nodded. Watching Elain’s scowl, he barked a laugh and then softly, tenderly, kissed her lips. “She is also very, very queer and Cerrdiwen’s girlfriend. So…..”
“Oh.”
Oh.
“I…I, that’s,” she mumbled, while he chuckled, “it’s not how I meant it…I mean…”
He pulled her to him and kissed the top of her head.
“Yeah, I know what you meant–jealous little thing you are.”
“I am so not!”
“Oh, you so are.”
“Ohmygod!”
Elain gasped audibly.
“What is all this?!”
Ruhn tugged her by the hand and said, “Come on, beautiful.”
“You did this?” she gawked at the romantic setup.
They were on the roof of the building, 55 stories up in the air, the shimmering cityscape of Manhattan all around them. Millions upon millions of lights twinkled and sparkled all around them, and the noise of the city was muffled this high up.
“I did do this,” he confirmed, looking slightly tense, maybe a bit uncomfortable.
She clutched his hands in hers and looked around, face full of wonder.
“But why?”
“Wanted to go on a date,” he muttered gruffly.
“I love dates!”
“I hope I did okay,” he rubbed the back of his neck.
He didn’t miss her wearing his hoodie, and how sexy she looked in it. Not really sexy–the thing swallowed her whole–but to him, it was the sexiest damn thing there was. His woman, huddling in his clothes for warmth, getting his smell all over her.
A fluffy comforter pulled out from the closet. Check.
Another blanket, in case Elain got cold. Check.
A chocolate and caramel cupcake. Four bonbons. Two truffles. One glazed doughnut. A small loaf of bread. Check.
A bag of chips and a tub of dip. Check.
A bottle of Fanta. Check.
A chunk of cheddar. The good stuff. English. Check.
A bottle of Prosecco. Check.
Elain considered the odd assortment of foods, while Ruhn glared at her, his gaze hopeful, and seeking approval.
“The bakery didn’t have a lot of stuff left,” he explained quickly, and then added nervously, “and I know you love cheese.”
“I do love cheese,” she confirmed and then breathed, “it’s perfect! It’s a nighttime picnic!”
He smiled broadly,
“Yeah…yeah. Exactly.”
So what if there was expensive cheese, and cheap dip and potato chips, which made no sense? So what if there was Fanta on the menu? It was perfect.
Elain leapt into his arms and gushed,
“It’s perfect! It’s everything I ever wanted.”
“You wanted to go on a picnic?”
“Always! I love this!”
“Okay, well, sit down then,” he offered her, pulling her down on the blanket awkwardly.
He was terrible at this date thing, and Elain’s heart burst into a thousand million sparks of love for him.
He wasn’t confident and sleek like Azriel, or experienced and loose like Fenrys. He wasn’t even like Cassian, with his smirks and his fast mouth. He wasn’t brooding and amorous like Lorcan.
This was Ruhn. Her Ruhn. A brutal, terrifying gang leader, who strung people from bridges in a cruel and odious display of power and dominance, someone who once shot seven people in a span of 13 seconds, a guy who cut off someone’s balls and then delivered them in a package, complete with a rose, to the man’s wife. Ruhn did a lot of crazy, unhinged, violent things.
But he didn’t know how to date. And he loved her, his wife.
He sat cross-legged next to her, and fumbled with his phone.
“I have some music,” he said, uncertainty lacing his voice, “or if you want to watch today’s Manchester City versus Arsenal match–we can do that,”
Elain smiled at him, and then keened towards his large body and pressed her lips to his neck, lacing her fingers with his.
“I love you so much,” she whispered, feeling the pulse of his jugular under her lips.
“I love you too,” he said softly, and then pulled her hair out of the bun and his nose brushed against her cheek. “So much.”
“The music,” she requested. “Let’s do the music tonight.”
Of course he realised too late that he forgot to bring any cutlery, plates or even glasses.
Fuck his life!
But thankfully, there were napkins in one of the bags, and Elain didn’t even bat an eye. She smoothly arranged the napkins like place settings for them, and Ruhn handed her a knife–not one of his murder knives, thank god–and she sliced the bread and the cheese. He popped the cork on the Prosecco and it was cold enough not to bubble violently over everything.
“Sorry baby,” he whispered and she laughed, took the bottle, and pulled a healthy swig of the bubbly. Patting her thigh, she had him lay his head on it, and then tore into the chips and dip and fed him a hefty helping of both.
He smiled, looking up at the starless skies above and lightly wrapped his arm around her bare leg, before kissing the inside of her knee. She plopped a piece of cheese in his mouth, and then said,
“I didn’t know you were romantic like that,”
“I really am not,” he protested.
“I don’t know,” she tutted. “Champagne, and pastries and a picnic.”
“Just keep it to yourself, beautiful,” he suggested with a grin.
“Street cred?” she confirmed knowingly.
“You know it.”
The music that they were listening to was mellow and old-fashioned. Elain sang along to some of the songs, because it was all the stuff she grew up on–Sinatra, Dean Martin, old Italian songs.
“How do you have these songs?” she demanded, bobbing along to ‘Pennies in Heaven’.
“Ummm,” he grunted, looking embarrassed. “It’s a Pandora radio station. Italian dinner…”
“You even thought of that?” she stroked his forehead, tucking his silky black hair behind his ear.
He shrugged like it wasn't a big deal.
“I know you like this music. So I thought it would be a good soundtrack to the date.”
“Strangers in the Night” came on just then and he sang along quietly,
Strangers in the night
Exchanging glances,
Wondering in the night
What were the chances
We’d be sharing love before the night was through
Elain squeezed his hand and asked shyly,
“Dance with me?”
“Any time, sunshine,” he sat up and then wrapped his arm around her, and landed them both on their feet, as he swept her in a wide, exaggerated circle across the rooftop. It was a nice rooftop, made for parties and dancing and celebrations. Now it was empty, the space entirely theirs, the lights of the city and Frank’s smooth voice as their only companions.
“You must really love me,” Ruhn mused, watching Elain’s elated face, as he spun her around. His hoodie, which she tied around her waist, flared dramatically, like a ball gown.
She laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck, and he lifted her off the ground and waltzed with her, as she dangled next to him, his arm supporting her entire weight.
“I do,” she nodded, giggling, her converse-clad feet floating above his boots, “but what gave it away?”
“I am gonna go with you opting to dance with me, and eat cheese and laugh and listen to music, instead of watching football. And that was one hella big game too!”
“I love you more than football,” she confessed, looking into his brilliant, cold blue eyes. “I want to date you more than I want to watch football.”
He smoothed her hair lovingly with his available hand and whispered,
“I want to date you too. More than anything.”
Suddenly, the sky came alive.
Elain gasped and stared open-mouthed at the Thursday night fireworks.
“Oh my god! I forgot about these!” she cried out, her face happy and brightly illuminated by the explosions of green and purple and pink. He held her to himself, and looked up at the sky as well, where giant flowers blossomed and stars streaked across the darkness and exploded in silvery glitter.
The song switched to ‘My Way’, its bombastic, dramatic vocals and lyrics a perfect foil for the fireworks. Ruhn carried Elain back to the blanket, and then lay down, spread-eagled and threw their heads back, watching the show.
“Wow,” she marvelled. “This is the best!”
“You like it, beautiful?”
She pointed to the sky and whispered,
“That’s how I feel with you, Ruhn. Like my heart explodes with love when I am around you. I dunno why.”
“I don’t mind,” he pulled her into his embrace and kissed her brow. “I don’t mind at all.”
She flipped onto her belly and pressed her lips to his.
“Can I ask you something?” she inquired.
“Obviously. Because you will, regardless of what I say,” he smiled at her, his large, warm palm sliding down her back and cupping her ass.
“Okay, okay,” she pouted, but obviously his comment didn’t deter her from asking,
“If you didn’t have to do any of this…Like, if you could do anything, what would you do?”
“You are assuming I don’t like killing,”
“No, I am not. Perhaps you do. Obviously, you don't have any qualms about it. But I don’t know if you woke up one day and decided to become an assassin and an enforcer. So if you didn’t, then what would you do?”
Ruhn scrubbed his hand over his face and then looked at her, before kissing her gently. He was nice tonight. Softer than usual. Elain wondered if it was going to last.
“A house husband,” he announced easily.
“What?”
“That’s what I’d be–a house husband.”
She frowned thinking that he was joking.
The fireworks were still exploding above them and he popped a cigarette between his lips and lit up.
“Honestly,” he turned on his side and brushed her cheek with his knuckles, “that’s what I want to do. Or rather, I don’t want to do anything. I want to tattoo, paint and sketch, and do fuck all else otherwise. If Az needed me to go and whack someone, I’d do it. But I’d love to be a house husband–keep a tidy, elegant home, do some cooking, some entertaining,”
“Are you for real?”
He shrugged,
“Why not? Everyone assumes that every man is full of wild ambition and needs to do stuff all the time. I don’t need to do anything.
“My ideal life would be to wake up, fuck you, go get a professional shave at the barber’s, stop for a coffee, read the paper, shoot the shit with Cass, go to my shop, sketch, tattoo, meet you for lunch, fuck you, eat with you, maybe fuck you again a little bit. Go back to the shop, then maybe wander around some galleries, look at art, pick up stuff for dinner, go to the gym, pick you up from work, have a cocktail. On occasion, I’d talk business with Az and Fen. Dinner. Maybe even cook it myself for all of you. Have a couple more cocktails, play in the pool, play cards, fuck you.”
“How many times a day are you planning to fuck me?” she pondered.
“I dunno. Five-ish?”
“You are ambitious.”
“A man can dream,” he concluded, puffing out a cloud of smoke, his expression pensive and thoughtful. Like describing her perfect life made him wish for it to be true.
Elain sat up, and his palm landed on her upper thigh, squeezing lightly, while he made a little disgruntled noise when she separated from him.
“Come back,” he urged her, opening up his arm for her, but she just looked at him, cocking her head. Then she reached into her pocket and took something out, but didn’t show him.
“Do you still want to do it?” she asked at last.
“Do what?”
“You know,” and she tossed whatever she was holding atop of his chest. He craned his neck and picked up a tube, looking at it in confusion.
“Anal,” she pressed. “Do you want it?”
“Huh…Yeah,” he finally managed to say, looking dazed.
Finally, when he dawned upon him what she was offering, he sat up abruptly and she laughed at his eagerness.
“You serious?” he pressed, twisting the tube of lube in his fingers.
She nodded and whispered, “Yeah. I want to do it again.”
“Did you like it the first time?” he asked.
“It was a lot,” she admitted. “But I loved it…how you did it.”
She blushed, and unbuttoned her shorts.
Ruhn almost tore the shorts off her slender thighs, rolling them down so quickly, it almost gave her a fabric burn.
“Take everything off,” he ordered, as he pulled his t-shirt over his head, his icy blue eyes never leaving hers, “leave the keds.”
She was completely naked in front of him in less than a minute, but still wearing her converse, her long hair spilling all over her body. He crawled towards her over the blanket and kissed her knee, parting her legs carefully, eyeing her pink slit.
“How do you want it?” he asked, his voice hoarse, his rough, large palms smoothing over her inner thighs, parting her legs even further, opening her up bit by bit.
“How you’d normally give it to me,” she requested shyly, stroking his arm. “Rough. Deep. How you always do it.”
He looked at her intently, seeking any hesitation or falseness, but found none.
“I love you, Ruhn,” she reminded him calmly. “Just the way you are. If you are going to ride my ass, I want you to ride it like Ruhn would.”
He smirked and spread her legs widely, as she slid back and propped herself on her elbows, watching him and his ravenous gaze, tracking the movement of his eyes, as they took in her wet, slick pussy, before he pushed her back a bit, so he could see her other hole.
“Did you lube it up for me?” he raised his brow, just as his finger slipped from her opening, dragging some of the moisture down below.
“Nope,” she popped her lips. “My holes are yours, but you do the work.”
He grinned savagely and nodded, muttering, “just like I like it!”
The sight of her so nicely spread for him, so ready and willing made his dick hard as a fucking rock and he knew he’d have to pace himself, because he was in danger of blowing his load before he even got inside that sweet ass.
“Spread it for me a little bit, sweetheart,” he urged her, “show me how much you want it.”
She looked so adorable like this: completely naked, with her large, round breasts and the soft thighs, and the little keds, which skirted the edge of some sort of fetish, but he wasn’t going to think about that now. Not when she reached down, and pulled her cheeks apart for him, opening that cute little hole a bit more. She was looking at him, biting her lower lip, her ass nicely stretched, and he brought the tip of his dick to her lips. She kissed it immediately, and caught a bead of precum with the tip of her tongue, gliding her tongue over the smooth cockhead.
“Put it in, Runnie,” she requested with a pout. “I want it!”
“Do you want me to stretch you a little bit first, beautiful?” he asked, and dipped his cock between her folds, gathering some of the slick with his shaft. She shuddered when he brushed over her clit a few times, her back arching, her hands kneading her pale lovely butt cheeks impatiently.
“No,” she moaned. “I want to feel it…How you fill me up.”
He wasn’t going to argue and squirted a generous amount of lube between her cheeks, before placing her feet on his shoulders and pushing her legs way back, as he leaned into her.
“Relax, sunshine,” he kissed her lips softly, with a kind, soothing kiss, seeing how she tensed beneath him. “I am going to make it good for you. But your pretty asshole belongs to me, doesn’t it?” he asked, while the tip of his cock circled the tight rim of her anus. “Will you give it to me like my good girl?”
“I am your good girl,” she muttered, as she looked between their bodies, back to biting her lip in anticipation.
“That’s right,” he growled, pressing into her tiny hole, as her breath hitched loudly in her chest, “and good girls get their tushies fucked,” propping himself on one arm above her shoulder, he pushed his cock forward, breaching the ring and eliciting a loud, pained moan from her.
Fuck it felt good. So good.
Her head lolled back, as her thighs trembled around his shoulders, as she took inch after inch after inch of his thick shaft inside her narrow, scorching hot rectum.
He knew he’d never get enough of this. The sensation of possession, or her complete submission, her sad, pretty moans, the nervous twitching of her long, tight passage was simply amazing. Was ‘amazing’ the right word? It wasn’t enough. Amazing wasn’t enough.
“Ohmygod. Ohmygod,” she cried out again and again, while he licked his lips, muttering, ‘just a little more, sweetheart. You are taking it all in, my love,”
“Yes, yes,” she gasped quietly, “ohmygod, it’s so much!”
“You like getting your pretty ass filled,” he insisted, “it needs my dick in there,”
“I am having second thoughts!” she complained and he laughed, kissing the top of her head.
“No you are not,” he tsked. “Look at you! Your hole is packed with dick, just like it’s supposed to be,” he added proudly, bottoming out.
She bit his chin, his neck, licking mindlessly on whatever she could reach with her tongue and her lips, moaning loudly and unabashedly. She didn’t give a shit if she was making a ton of noise–she was being fucked in the ass by a nine inch dick, and his balls were currently slapping against her skin. She was panting, sweat trickling down her brow, the bead immediately licked by Ruhn’s eager tongue.
He kept himself fully sheathed inside of her, but didn’t move, though she noticed the strain of his muscles, the tension of his cobbled abdomen and the bulging of his biceps, as he kept himself back and allowed her to adjust.
Taking deep breaths, she nuzzled into his neck and whispered, “you can move now.”
He exhaled and replied, “give me a sec, beautiful.”
He smiled against his skin, realising that he was straining not only to keep himself in check, but also to keep himself from coming.
“Do I feel good for you?” she asked, kissing him around the ear. “Is my poor ass nice for your mammoth cock?”
“Better than anything!” he assured her and then pulled back at last, before gliding back inside.
The drag of his dick was mesmerising. The most glorious feeling that Elain could imagine. Sure, she loved orgasms–who didn’t?--but it was this that she cherished. The long pull of the thick length, emptying her almost completely, before filling her back up. God she loved it. It was so painful, the burn acute and deep, as her passage accommodated the unbelievably tight fit of him in her, but it also felt absolutely indescribable.
“God, you are so big,” she choked out, knowing that she probably shouldn't be stroking Ruhn’s massive ego right now, because his cock’s been praised and admired plenty, but she couldn’t help it. He was huge, and he felt so, so good inside of her.
He fucked her with deep, firm, but languid thrusts, only his hips working atop of her thighs. He readjusted his position, lifting himself off of her, and holding her feet to his shoulders, while he pumped hard into her ass. Her tits bounced and jumped with every powerful push, and he was watching her huff and grunt beneath him, ordering her to ‘keep your cheeks spread, sweetheart. Are you my sweet girl?”
“Yes,” she nodded, knowing that she was weak and needy for him, and would probably do anything to have him continue pounding into her ass. “I love it,” she moaned. “I love it so much…”
He smirked indulgently at her, nodding slowly,
“I know, sweetheart. I know. That little hole was made just for me. You can take more, can’t you?”
She nodded, watching his stunning body flex and work atop of her. All the ink, the sensational musculature, the smooth, dark golden skin painted with intricate designs–a living canvas of chaos.
“Isn’t it good to be mine?” he asked.
“Always, my house husband,” he smiled widely at him, relishing the glorious burn and build up of pleasure inside of her.
He barked a laugh, nosing against her nose, whispering, “Not yet. But something to aspire to.”
Elain knew that Ruhn was holding himself back a little with her, and she appreciated it. He was loving her in his usual manner–forceful, open, unrestrained, yet slightly more careful and caring. Her clit demanded attention, and without her even saying anything, he was already on it, his thumb pressing on it firmly and rubbing steadily.
“Oh it’s good, it’s good,” her eyes closed and she indulged in all the sumptuous, gorgeous, erotic sensations that currently engulfed her body. The even, unfaltering rhythm of his cock in her ass brought her to an orgasm quicker than she anticipated, and she shook and screamed until she was hoarse, not caring about anything, but the beautiful slamming of his cock and the magic of his finger.
Ruhn wasn’t far behind. His arms clasped her now-pliant, softened body, and he pulled her up into his embrace, holding her like a ragdoll on his lap, as he fucked easily into her, and she kissed him sleepily, draping her arms around his shoulders.
He finished deep inside of her, hot and abundant, and didn’t release her from his hold for a long time, kissing her and stroking her hair.
“Noooo, not yet,” she pleaded, when he made a move to withdraw.
He kissed her again and smiled, laying both of them on their side, his soft cock still nestled inside of her, just like she wanted.
“Let’s eat more chips and drink Fanta!” she proposed decisively.
Ruhn chuckled, arguing, “this is supposed to be a romantic date. Chocolates and music and wine,”
In turn, she reminded him, “Instead, we got chips and dip and dancing and anal. All of my favourite things!”
He hummed to himself and thought that this was not a bad first date.
Not a bad date at all.

A year in fic, 2024
So, I saw a few posts going around doing like a retrospective on all the fics that people had written this year, and I thought... it'd be a good thing to do myself, too, to take stock of everything I did. Looking at some of the things I'm proud of, and the big one that I'm not.
According to AO3, in terms of overall stats, there were....
Kudos: 1010 Bookmarks: 331 Subscriptions: 84 Word Count 945,003 Hits: 27868 But I do think that for some reason, the way they count it pulls some of the fics that were going on for more than a year from 2023 into 2024, so those might not be exactly right. A breakdown of the different fics and my thoughts on them are under the cut.
Not Myself Today - Glee - Kurt/Sam/Puck
January - May The fact that writing Soul Soul Revolution fell apart for me is one of the things I'm most ashamed about this year. For context, I've been writing the series since... 2021, and I had so much planned out ahead of me for the story. And then toward the middle of 2023, my mom got very ill. During that time, I forced myself to keep writing, trying to keep a sense of normality in my day to day life. That continued all the way through to the middle of 2024, when my mom passed a positive milestone in her treatment, I had to miss a posting date because of an emergency, and then missed the next one because of a smaller emergency, and... And then missed a few more, deciding I'd earned a chance to decompress.
When I finally opened the fic again to edit the next chapter, I realized that I just... couldn't seem to do it. It was like I was having an anxiety issue, and... then it spread to replying to comments on the story, or trying to write other Glee fics, or even read them. There have been readers leaving the sweetest comments, and I feel like the worst kind of person because I want to reply to them, but my chest gets tight and suddenly writing a sentence seems to take me an hour and I feel like I've run a marathon afterward. If you have left a comment on Soul Soul Revolution that I haven't replied to, just know that it means the world to me, and I cherish them deeply.
I keep telling myself I'm going to come back to this story. it's actually one of my goals for 2025, but... I need to work past this issue, and hope that the incredibly kind people who had been reading will have a little understanding for me with it.
Knockout - 9-1-1 (Explicit) - Eddie/Tommy
July
I posted my first 9-1-1 story with my best friend, and amazing co-writer @nubianamy in July. It was after a spate where I hadn't been able to write anything at all, and I wanted to try writing for a totally different fandom, and with something much simpler and lower stakes. This was the first story in the Five Alarm Fest. Although we both ship Buck/Eddie, I wanted to make it a personal mission to try and write something different for each story.
Knockout was out Eddie/Tommy Story, for the prompt: Coda or Missing Scene. There had been some discussions and interviews at the time about the idea that Tommy was supposed to be Eddie's boyfriend in the original story, and so we ran with the idea of a 'missing scene' where that could have become canon.
(Also, in terms of superlatives, second highest kudos, but definitely the highest amount of comments. It matches the amount of Bookmarks with Wholly Convinced, which we'll come to soon!)
Parched - 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - TK/Carlos
July
Another story with nubianamy for the Five Alarm Fest! This was for the prompt; After a Dry Spell. We took that literally, writing about TK longing for long showers in the middle of a drought, and using his wiles to 'trick' Carlos into shower sex so he could have it. Of course, Carlos wasn't so easily duped. XD
It was the shortest of the Five Alarm Fest fics, clocking in at less than 5K, but that was because it was a very narrowly focused fic. Established relationship, tight premise, the options were either that we'd be sucinct or we'd end up spawning a whole cinematic universe in our head. XD
Biggest Fan - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Buck/Mateo
July
The third of the Five Alarm Fest fics with nubianamy, and one that kind of... changed my brain chemistry. XD Buck/Mateo is a rare pairing. In fact, of the six fics that are tagged as such, we've written five of them, so... Rare, rare pairing. This was for the prompt; Intercrural (No Penetration,)
Biggest Fan is set pre-canon, and explores the idea of Buck and Mateo getting together while Mateo visits family in LA and Buck is still in his Buck 1.0 era. It actually spawned a sequel for our rare pair, with some additional poly fun! And in general, I know I just really like the vibes. Two characters who are sometimes seen as pretty immature, but have so much good and love in their hearts that it practically explodes out of them. It's just very good and sweet in my mind. And, they're both very handsome men, so... that's that. XD
Wholly Convinced - 9-1-1 (Explicit) Buck/Eddie/Tommy
July
The fourth of the seven Five Alarm Fest fics with nubianamy, highest number of kudos, and matches the amount of Bookmarks with Knockout! Wholly Convinced is our Buck/Eddie/Tommy fic, and was one I know I had a lot of fun writing. Tommy engineering Eddie and Buck experimenting with each other without, perhaps, knowing who is on the other side of a gloryhole. And then a little twist ending. It was fun doing the POV shift back and forth, and getting to imply Tommy's POV within the other two.
Bonfire - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Buck/TK/Carlos/???
July
Five of Seven Five Alarm Fest fics with nubianamy, and this was another fun one, where we played with time in the different scenes. The prompt was; At the Firehouse. We did established Buck/Carlos/TK, with a special someone joining them midway. I know I really liked playing with this idea of long distance relationships and love in different shapes and forms. Poly was definitely a theme I've started to drift into more and more, because I love writing everyone getting what they want. XD
Force of Nature - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Buck/Mateo, Buck/Mateo/TK/Carlos, Big Buck/Eddie Vibes
July
Six of Seven Five Alarm Fest fics, with nubianamy. This was the first and only sequel of the bunch. We allowed ourselves one. This follows on from Biggest Fan several years later, and covers the events of the crossover episode. And it had everything. Buck and Mateo relationship reveal gone wrong. Eddie Diaz being spectacularly jealous and not knowing why. Surprise sex scene that was longer than the entire plotted aspect of the fic! Kink! (Okay, a lot of the previous fics had kink, but this had kink negotiation, of a kind!)
The prompt was; Rare Pair or Solo Play, and I think Buck/Mateo/TK/Carlos (with pre-relationship Buck/Eddie) was pretty rare. XD
Monday is Blue - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Buck/Owen Strand, Owen Strand/Mateo Chavez
July
The final Five Alarm Fest fic with nubianamy. (Finally, I can stop typing five alarm fest... but I cannot stop writing about my co-writer, who I love fiercely and has been like my other arm this entire year, for which I cannot say how grateful I am.)
This was a Creator's Choice fic, and we originally tried something a fair bit darker and more intense, that had us pulling our hair out at one point over how to make it work. xD We really had a lot of conversations over what it could be, and then I think we eventually just made a list of the characters we hadn't used yet, and just started pitching ideas for each pairing we could think of. We wanted to do something 'Low Stakes.'
So of course, this is now the first story in a series that has posted 181. 884 words at time of writing, and had a bunch in the barrel ready to go next year. XD
Definitely the kinkiest story of the lot, but honestly, a lot of fun to write. This was the story that definitely got my enthusiasm back for writing multichapter, multistory series. Writing it with nubianamy is a dream, and I'm so glad we went with this rather than the original idea. XD
Bite My Style - 9-1-1 - Buck/Eddie/Tommy
July
On the upswing from not writing, and finding that writing for challenges was really helping me keep up my motivation, I signed up for the 911 Fanworks festival around the same time as the Five Alarm Fest. This was also my first time flying without a co-writer on a fic in a while, which was a little nervewracking.
I was assigned @911varietyposts for my giftee, and after having a look through their Tumblr, I saw a post (that I can't find now Has now been found thanks to Britt!!!) talking about Eddie and Step Up, which inspired this fic! This was a couple of months before Season 8, so I guess it's a nice bit of kismet that this fic and the series both explored the idea of Eddie choosing joy through dancing! Now, if I could only convince the show to put Eddie in teeny tiny little shorts, that'd be the whole game right there.
Tuesday is Grey - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Buck/Owen, Owen/Mateo, Buck/Mateo, Buck/Carlos, Buck/Carlos/Mateo, Buck/Mateo/Owen, background Mateo/Nancy
September
Tuesday is Grey is the sequel to Monday is Blue, and it really starts to kick things into high gear with the kink, and the poly, and the world. I had a lot of fun writing this, I'm pretty sure we ran straight into it from Monday, but we took it at a slower pace writing it because things got busy. Nubianamy was amazing, as always, and we really set up a bunch of things for the future of the series that are still paying off now!
Ghosts and Mirrors - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star - Ravi/Marvin Chavez, Ravi/Mateo Chavez
September
Another challenge, another set of fics! I entered the AU weekend challenge, and although I didn't get as much written as I wanted to, I still got a couple of really exciting fics out in my opinion!
The prompt for Ghost and Mirrors was Soulmate AU, and I really wanted to try and play with the format a little, especially the idea of soulmarks. What does it mean when you lose someone that you're sure is your soulmate, before you even know them? What happens when you grieve someone for years, only to run into their doppleganger randomly?
Auditions - 9-1-1 - Buck/Eddie
September
Another fic for the AU weekend, this was for Different Settings. I dipped my toe back into the Glee pool ever so lightly with this one, thinking it was amusing to turn one Ryan Murphy show into another one. I don't have a lot to say with this one, other than mentioning how fun it was to try and bend things into the right shape, and being miraculously surprised when other things fit so perfectly. Eddie Diaz - Sam Evans parallels, anyone? (Season 2 introduction, should definitely end up with my favorite character, etc).
Of course, I discovered one of my least favorite things about trying to write younger 9-1-1, which is 'what to do about Chris.' In this one, he's used for even more drama, but it made me very sad to do what I had to do.
Waiting on Greens and Blues - Glee (Explicit) - Finn/Sam, Kurt/Puck
January - October
Another Glee Fic that has only been continuously updated thanks to the tireless work of nubianamy. We wrote it together, but I was already having a hard time finding time to edit it, and then when the anxiety thing happens I kind of took my hands off entirely. But it is such a great fic, and I love it so much.
Wednesday Too - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Buck/Owen, Owen/Mateo, Buck/Mateo, Buck/Carlos, Buck/Carlos/Mateo, Buck/Mateo/Owen, background Mateo/Nancy
November - December
Sequel to Tuesday is Grey, and the story continues to move forward! It was really fun really locking Buck in a scene with one other person, and really exploring his relationship to kink from a different angle. And a surprise appearance from a character who... Well, has been guessed at a lot, and I can't wait to reveal! There was a lot of heavy world building that happened behind the scenes for this fic, which was just so fun to do. There's timelines, and calendars, and house layouts, and a whole document of pics of the actors looking hot that I would just throw at nubianamy so that they always had something fun to open the doc to. XD
Life Jacket - 9-1-1 / 9-1-1: Lone Star (Explicit) - Tommy/Buck/Owen/Mateo, Implied pre-Mateo/Eddie, Tommy/Buck/Eddie, Time-Off Polyshape as a ship.
November
Life Jacket is a future-future sequel to the 'Time Off' series. (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday stories.) I think by the time we catch up with the timeline, there's gonna be some stuff in there that doesn't work so well, but it was really fun writing it. It was actually written as part of a challenge again, Polyship Week, but we only got this fic done in time. It was fun playing with different combinations, and ending on this sense of family and poly that I love. If you do read this one, there are heavy spoilers for things that are going to happen, so be forewarned. XD

from the top of the stairwell in my house, i could hear my two big brothers discussing my big birthday party that was set to take place later that afternoon.
i was turning five, which apparently was a “big age,” according to them. i always thought a big age was 27, or 25, like them. mom always liked to use the word “milestone” when she talked about big ages. then again, she used that word all the time, not just in talking about ages. for instance, she always talked about milestones when she was jogging. she loved doing that.
henry and percy gained a baby sister when they were 22 and 20. i always asked them if it was weird. that i was basically still a baby to them. “nah, we love it,” they told me. “that means we get to permanently pick on you.” i think they were just messing with me when they said that.
“so, let’s see who we have here, maisie, aria, cooper, benny, kidd… i think that’s it.”
“yeah, they’re all coming over.”
“is that confirmed?”
“yeah. you talk to the parents?”
“i thought that was your responsibility?”
“psh, you know how anxious i get over the phone.”
“c’mon, man, we’re teachers. we have to talk to them all the time.”
“still doesn’t make it easy.”
“and… you picked up the blue monster cake that she wanted?”
“i called, said they were out of stock.”
“crap, then what do we do?”
“i’ve no idea.”
“we’ll think of something.”
“yeah, def.”
later that day, i could see several adults and several children come in through the door.
my brothers began to greet the grownups, socializing with them this way and that.
still, i observed from the stairwell, a bit shy to come down.
“yeah, we’re both teachers at the dreamers academy. it’s, uh, it’s a school. well, we do volunteer at the humane society from time to time.”
“well, i think i’m the only one still doing that.”
“it’s hard to carve time out of my schedule, okay?”
“while you’re doing what? binge watching hulu?”
“man’s gotta do what man’s gotta do.”
“i swear to god.”
i could hear several adults laughing.
“yeah, we set up a starbucks date sometime? maybe grab coffee and donuts? wait, does starbucks even have donuts?”
“yeah, absolutely, great to see you again! yeah, she’s getting big, growing up too fast.”
“i remember when she was little, well, she’ll always be little to us, but when she was little little, she’d follow us around all the time…”
“did it ever get annoying? no, we were mature about it.”
“she’s always been cute. always loved us.”
“yeah, absolutely. she’s five now, can you believe it?”
“hey, you know where she is?”
“did you call her down?”
“allie? where are you love?”
“maybe she’s with the other kids in the bonus room.”
“yeah, let’s check there.”
i heard their voices fade as they walked away from the bottom of the stairwell and further into the house.
we had a big house. it had three stories. the giant blue room that took up most of the third floor was mine. it used to be an attic, but then we moved the attic into a storage closet on the first floor. i think it came right after i was born.
my brothers were right in saying that they were both teachers. they were both naturally gifted with kids. the dreamers academy sounded like a strange name for a school, but it was all to appeal to the adults who wanted to send their kids away to a place where they could have fun and dream big while they learn. that was kind of their motto, anyway. and it attracted the kids, as well, because all the teachers were devoted, dedicated individuals who always prioritized the children they taught. and they made the lessons fun. and no day was ever challenging, at least, according to my brothers.
but they could often times be intimidating to someone as little as me. i only knew them, truly knew them, for two years. i only began talking when i was two. and they never really spent time around the house until i was around three. i don’t even remember being held by them. i did remember the following them around part, though.
i always thought of them as fun uncles. i never thought of them as my brothers.
but they had tender, caring hearts. big, big hearts. like they were giant, human teddy bears. soft, gentle and huggable.
but, at the age of almost five, i was shy. reserved. quiet. but that never bothered them. they said that maybe i’d grow out of my quiet demeanor, my shyness, but that if i didn’t, well, it wasn’t a big deal.
suddenly i heard voices shouting,
“allie?! allie?! where are you? the party’s down here, silly!”
“allie, come down, please, everyone’s waiting for you!”
a few moments later:
“allie, don’t make me count to three.”
nobody could see me because i was on the third floor, not the first. i was so high up that it wouldn’t be easy to spot me.
i liked to be elusive. but sometimes that got me in big trouble.
so i rushed downstairs and attacked both henry and percy’s legs with big hugs.
“ahaha, there she is!”
“hey, birthday girl!”
“kiddo.” i felt one of them rub the top of my head.
i said hi to all of my friends thag showed up. my brothers were all familiar with them, since they all attended the same school as me and we were all in the same classes. henry taught reading and math and percy taught gym. they looked kind of similar, but henry wore glasses a lot of the time.
“mr. angus,” (that was our last name and how the rest of the kids knew my brothers), “i want to play in the bonus room, can we play in the bonus room?”
i saw one of my friends tugging on henry’s wrist and hand with both their hands.
that made me laugh a bit.
“absolutely!” he chuckled when the tugging got to be so forceful it dragged his feet across the tile floor of the kitchen. “alright, alright, i’m coming!”
i looked up to percy, who was just about to join them before he looked down to me. “hey, allicat, ya comin?”
i giggled and nodded, following him into the big bonus room.
later on, both of my brothers, down on their hands and knees, got trampled on by me all my friends. we were using them like giant jungle gyms.
my friends’ parents liked to tease me a bit, saying stuff like “oh, you must be the smartest kid that goes there, you have two brothers who are both teachers there!” this wasn’t really true. i wasn’t realy that smart for an almost five year old. but my brothers didn’t mind.
later on, henry had gotten dragged into a different direction by the kids while i followed percy into the kitchen. he was going to call a bakery to see if they had another cake in stock for me.
“percy, i wanna show you my handstand! can you see it? please??”
he chuckled and sat down on the kitchen counter. “alright, let me see it.”
so i did it for as long as i could, never minding that my hands were touching a floor that so many feet had stepped on. but it was near-perfect. and i was quite proud of it.
“wow, look at you go! that was brilliant!” he clapped a bit, laughing. “well done! how long have you been practicing?”
i shrugged. “i don’t know, i don’t do it much, i just wanted someone to see it.”
“that was really good, allie, well done kiddo!” he got off the counter and bent down to rub the top of my head.
i frowned. “i want to show henry, but… i’m afraid he’ll laugh.”
“aw, sunshine, no he won’t. he’ll love it as much as i do.”
“you promise?”
“i promise.” he drew an x on his heart, smiling down at me to show that he meant it. “c’mon, you wanna go show it to him right now?”
suddenly i felt my cheeks turn bright red. suddenly i got all shy again. i shook my head.
“aw, why not? you shy?”
i nodded.
“allie,” he laughed, “don’t be shy. if you want, i can get his attention.”
i nodded, my smile fading.
his faded right alongside mine as he took a knee in front of me.
“aw, allie, what’s wrong?” he rubbed my back.
“what if i mess it up?” i whispered.
“you won’t mess it up,” he chuckled. “i know this.”
“i’m still nervous,” i smiled slightly.
“aw, you shouldn’t be nervous around him, allie, he’s our big bro, he’s got your back. always.”
suddenly i could hear henry yelling from the room next door, “percy! help me! they’ve got me trapped!”
percy and i both giggled as he rolled his eyes. “oh, boy,” he sighed out, then looked down at me with a smile, nodding in that direction. “c’mon, let’s go help him out, and then we can show everyone your impressive handstand.”
“it’s not impressive,” i muttered.
“well, i think it is.” suddenly he took my hand and ran off towards the living room, pulling me like a sled dog.
he always liked to do that with me, and every time it made me laugh.
right as we entered the room, however, the doorbell rang.
“oh, that must be the cake!” percy exclaimed. “hang on,” he held up a finger, “i’ll be right back.”
as i watched him run off towards the front door, i felt someone tug my hand in the direction of henry (the same hand tugger as before) and someone else shouting in my ear, “c’mon allie! we gotta trample him!”
“i’m already trampled, geez!” that was henry’s comical squeaky high pitched voice. of course, this made all the kids shriek with laughter.
a few moments later, we could hear percy’s voice from the kitchen:
“alright, who’s ready for cake?”
all the kids instantly hopped off of henry and stormed off, eagerly awaiting a slice.
henry and i had to both run to join them, henry sounding a bit out of breath.
after everyone sang happy birthday to me (i turned a bit red in the face, as my shyness sometimes couldn’t handle a bunch of people singing directly to me), and i helped percy cut the cake, and after we stuffed our faces with said cake, we eagerly ran back into the bonus room, with henry breathlessly following close behind. i knew percy probably ran to clean up.
“alright, now who’s ready for a talent contest?” henry asked all of us.
“ooh ooh!! me! me! me!” a whole bunch of hands shot up.
“alright, who’s willing to go first? well, actually, how bout we have the birthday girl go first?” henry gestured to me. “how’s about it, allie!”
“yeah, allie!”
“yay, allie!”
“woo, allieee!!!” everyone was looking at me, clapping at me.
“c’mon allie!”
“you can do this!”
“you got this!”
suddenly one of the kids had started up a chant. “al-lie! al-lie! al-lie!”
soon all of them joined in, clapping to the rhythm.
now, i was absolutely mortified. i knew i wanted to do my handstand, and this was the perfect golden opportunity, but… i still wasn’t feeling confident about it. i knew i could do it in front of percy, but… could i do it front of henry?
“n-no,” i shook my head, nervously clasping my hands together and fidgeting slightly. “i-i don’t wanna go…”
“oh, allie, why not?”
“yeah, are you afraid?”
“you scared?”
“you’re a chicken!”
“c’mon, allie…”
now, this was far, far worse than anyone laughing at me. this was teasing. jeering. bullying.
i looked over to henry, who was trying his best to settle the crowd down, holding his hands out in front and gradually bringing them down, a gesture to hopefully mitigate all the noise.
“guys, guys, hey, c’mon now, we’re not gonna make her feel bad now, right?”
“but she won’t do it for us!”
“yeah, like, look at her!”
“she’s a wimp!”
“guys! what did i say?”
but it was too late to change anything now.
“i-i’m sorry…” i choked out before i ran out of the room, the tears already stinging my eyes.
i could very faintly hear henry yelling “allie! wait! come back!”
but i’d already gotten to the front door, running out of it and finding a place to sit down at the far end of our porch.
i buried my face in my hands and began to cry.
i felt absolutely awful.
but what was probably even worse was that outside, it was freezing cold.
at least it was quiet.
suddenly i heard the front door open, and felt someone sit beside me, placing a gentle hand on my back.
“allie, what happened? why’d you run out like that?”
i sniffled, “i don’t wanna talk about it. they were making fun of me.”
“making fun of you?” his voice expressed nothing but concern, i could even hear it crack a bit.
i nodded, crying softly.
“aw, alliecat, c’mere,” i felt a warm sweater wrap around me and hold me tight.
“here, i’ll get henry for you and distract those other kids while you do your handstand for him. just for him.” his voice softened even more. “alright?”
i sniffled but nodded, looking up at him with teary eyes.
he smiled back down and swiped my nose with his finger. “atta girl,” he chuckled. “i’ll get henry, there’s plenty of grass here, you got this, champ.” he rubbed the top of my head again before he set me aside, getting up and going back inside.
my eyes followed him back in, and through the window i could see a perfect view of the bonus room. henry was getting toppled by the kids again, and he looked absolutely miserable. percy went running in, pulling kids off of him. i could very faintly hear him say, “alright, let’s give my poor brother a break from all your chaos for right now.”
i could then hear a collective “aww,” coming out of them.
“but! you get to beat up on me instead! how’s that sound you lot?”
suddenly there was loud cheers, percy saying an emphatic “alright!” through the cheers.
henry immediately got up and limped off to the side, shaking his head in bewilderment before putting his hands together and mouthing “thank you,” to percy, who flashed him a smile and a thumbs up in return.
percy must have told him prior that i had run outside and that he was going to check on me, and now he was telling henry that it was his turn to check on me.
before i knew it, i could hear the front door open again, and i saw henry come out. he sighed softly and muttered to himself, “phew, never thought i’d ever get away from those psychos.”
then he glanced over to the side of the porch i wasn’t on, before glancing in my direction. “ah, there you are,” i saw him point in my direction, smiling a bit.
he ran over and slid down beside me. “those kids scare both of us, don’t they?”
i nodded, shivering slightly. the cold was now starting to get to me.
“i’m sorry,” i whispered. “i wanted.. i wanted to show you my… my handstand but…” suddenly i broke out into an onslaught of tears all over again.
“no,” i heard him whisper, taking my hands in his and lifting me into his lap, “i’m sorry. i should’ve been paying more attention to you but… your friends wouldn’t leave me alone.”
“it’s okay,” i smiled slightly before it faded once more. “but… it’s also okay if you don’t want to see my, uh, my, um… i mean… it’s not very good…”
“no, no, i’m intrigued, let me see it.”
i shook my head.
“c’mon, alls, pretty please? just for me? just for your lame old brother? who can’t even do a handstand himself?”
i giggled a bit at this. “but… i’m not very good.”
“percy says you’re really good at it… and he usually doesn’t lie to me… i make sure of it.” he chuckled slightly. “now, c’mon, before we freeze to death, it’s getting cold and i’d like to head back in soon.”
i sighed. “okay, okay.” then i looked into his eyes sincerely, remembering something. “it’s okay if you laugh, too.”
“i won’t laugh, i promise. if you fall down, maybe, but you know i can’t help it. you do too, i know this.”
i frowned slightly.
“i’ll try not to,” he dropped his voice down, rubbing the back of my neck a bit.
i smiled. “okay.”
he clasped his hands together, before rubbing them in anticipation, “okay, c’mon, show me. i’m anxiously waiting.” he waved me off in the direction of the front yard.
so i went down the steps and into the yard.
and i tried to do one, but, i couldn’t quite stick it, and ended up falling down.
i felt my face turn red.
“i’m sorry,” i called to him, starting to walk back up to him.
“no, no, it’s okay, try again!” he waved me back to the yard.
the one thing i noticed was that he didn’t laugh.
so that made me feel a bit better.
so i tried again.
and again.
and another time.
and on the fifth try, i finally got my handstand to stick perfectly, like it did with percy.
suddenly i felt myself being lifted by the legs, spun around a bit before being flipped right side up and caught in an arm.
“bravooo!! that was all you? wowwwzzaaaa.” i felt my stomach being tickled by a few fingers. “clever girl.” he was bouncing me up and down now, and i was shrieking with laughter.
“seriously, bravo. that was incredible.” we were both inside now, the kids still playing in the bonus room with percy.
the way henry carried me reminded me of how a fun uncle would carry me, in the most irregular, not normal way possible. i liked that a lot.
“here, they’re gonna be a while playing tug of war or whatever, i wanna show you something really fast.” henry took me away from the living room and carried me upstairs, into his room.
i never got to see his room that much. mostly percy’s, because he’d sometimes invite me in case i had a nightmare. naturally, henry’s room always tended to be a bit messier, but that’s just how he liked it, i guess.
“so…” i coughed a little, half from the cold, half from the way henry was holding me. “did you… like my handstand?”
henry adjusted me so i was being held the proper way. “course i did, you kidding? that was freaking brilliant stuff. brilliant brilliant stuff.” he smiled and squeezed me a bit. “so proud of you, lil’ sis.”
i giggled at this as he set me down on his bed. “excuse the mess,” he rolled his eyes playfully as he sorted through a dresser full of old photos, taking a few out that his fingers stumbled across.
one of the pictures he showed me was of him holding what looked to be a one-year-old baby upside down, on the floor, with her hands touching it and their feet dangling in the air. “guess who taught you how to do a handstand?” he pointed to himself, beaming proudly.
“that was me?” i pointed at the baby.
“in the flesh.” he rubbed the top of my head. “you were always a hand-standing kiddo. we knew you had it in you.”
once again, i giggled at this. both my brothers knew how to put a smile on my face, always, and all the time.
when i ran back downstairs and i found percy getting out all the presents for me, i eagerly told him.
“yeahh, way to go, kid! i knew you could do it!” percy bent down to me slightly and showed his hand so i could give him a high five.
he then followed it up with another playful head rub and a bit of a side squeeze.
“can you do a handstand?” i asked.
“ha,” he scoffed, “i can try, but i can’t say i’m any good.”
“but you’re a gym teacher,” i laughed.
“yeah, a gym teacher who can’t do a freaking handstand.” he was laughing at his own self-deprecation. “anyway, i’ve got presents out for you, why don’t you start with the smallest one and make your way up to the biggest?”
all the kids had run back in afterwards, sitting down right beside me and watching eagerly as i opened up each individually-wrapped gift.
i couldn’t wait to play with all of them, but i knew that it had to wait until the next day, since it was getting late.
all the parents had arrived to pick up my friends, and so i waved and said goodbye to them.
i was greeted with a chorus of “bye allie! happy birthday!”
you had to admit, as chaotic as little kids were, they were obedient when prompted.
i watched as henry and percy gave each other a high five, both breathing a sigh of relief. “we did it.”
“phew!”
“glad we got that out of the way.”
“birthday party, done and done.”
i quickly ran up to them, taking each of their hands in one of mine. “i wanna play allie ball. can we? please?”
i knew that it was a game that they made up where they took turns throwing me to each other and catching me, as if i was some giant football. it was meant to be played outside, but it was fun for me as i got thrown around like a sack of potatoes.
“allie, it’s getting late…”
“aw, c’mon lad, it’s her birthday…”
“alright, fine, grab your jacket though, it’s freezing out and i don’t want you catching a cold on your birthday. you hear?” henry waggled a finger in my direction.
i giggled, “i hear.”
“good girl.” he smiled down at me.
so we went outside, and henry was first to throw me to percy. then right after percy caught me, after putting up with my deafening squeals and shrieks of delight, he’d throw me back to henry.
“this is the best birthday ever!” i screamed in the air, which earned a laugh from both my brothers.
then it was percy’s turn to throw me. this particular throw, though, he’d thrown me a bit higher than he normally threw, and a bit higher than i was used to.
“percy, wait, no, i’m too high! that’s too high!” i shrieked as i flailed myself in the air, right before landing into henry’s arms.
“woah, you alright there sun?”
i was shaking and trembling with pure fright. that was a bit too high up for my comfort zone.
“that was a a bit silly of him, wasn’t it? shame on him, he should know better,” henry chuckled slightly, scratching the top of my head a bit.
i started to sniffle a bit, “that.. he threw me.. it was too… high… up…” i was flat out sobbing now. i was still a bit fearful of heights. i clutched onto henry with all my might.
“i’m sorry, i’m sorry!” percy came running over frantically. “you okay sis?” i felt his hand run along the back of my head, on top of henry’s. “aw, i’m sorry. i’m… i’m sorry… here, want me to hold you?”
i shook my head, holding onto henry for dear life.
i didn’t like that game anymore. i really didn’t.
“way to go, way to screw up this time, yeah?” i heard henry mumble to percy.
“hey, i said i was sorry, okay? geezusss!”
i quickly took a glance at percy, and from what i could see through my blurry, tear-stained vision, he had the utmost hurt look on his face, his eyes never leaving mine.
“i’m sorry,” he kept mouthing, hoping to catch my attention.
every time i trembled slightly, i felt henry’s hand run along my back.
“great, now allie’s gonna have nightmares all night, thanks to you.”
“i’ll… i’ll try not to…” now i was starting to feel bad for percy. i know henry liked to pick on him, that’s just what brothers did, but still… i felt sorry for percy.
so i tugged on henry’s shirt.
“i want percy to hold me now.”
henry looked down at me a bit confusedly.
“oh, really?”
i nodded.
he chuckled, “alright, off ya go.”
i felt myself being passed off to percy, who held me a bit tighter than henry, making me cough a bit.
“hi, you,” he smiled down at me as he ran a hand along the back of my head, carrying me with his other arm.
“i’m sorry i cried,” i whispered to him, leaning my head against his chest. “i was just scared.”
“i know you were. and i’m sorry i threw you so high. i didn’t mean to, honest to god.”
i was beginning to get tired at that point. it was getting late, after all.
so when we got inside, percy let me down on the floor as i took off my jacket and hung it up, right before running upstairs to my bedroom on the third floor.
“wait, allie, don’t you want us to tuck you in?” percy shouted up to me, him and henry following me up.
they found me already tucked into bed, clutching one of my stuffed animals that i’d received for my birthday.
i shook my head, smiling. “i wanna tuck in myself now. i wanna be a big girl now.”
they both had fond, sweet smiles instantly plastered on their faces as soon as i said that.
“aw, alls, you’ll always be our baby sis.”
“yeah, you’re not ready to grow up yet.”
“well, we don’t really want you to grow up.”
“don’t rush it kid. not yet, anyway.”
“you have all the time in the world to grow up, you can start whenever you want.”
“but just not now.” i felt someone rub the back of my head. “alright?”
i nodded slowly, yawning.
“i hear ya,” henry chuckled. “sweet dreams, birthday girl.”
“yeah, sweet dreams. we love you.” i felt my hand being squeezed, once by henry, and once (a bit longer) by percy.
i knew i was in the safest of hands when they babysat me for the night.
