jason todd is never going to admit that he is an extremely jealous man. that’d scare you off and he knows it. but he cant help that his left eye twitches when your friend calls you. he hears a deep voice on the line and he just stares.
its not that he doesnt trust you, but he does fear the day that you realize he isnt enough for you. too damaged, too brooding, too mean. it all boils down to not wanting to be replaced.
the jealousy calms down (slightly) when you turn to him with an smile and roll your eyes playfully. “drama queen!” you mouth while pointing at your phone. jason chuckles silently and lays his head in your lap, studying you while you speak.
your hands instinctively move to comb through his hair, finding your own comfort in the movement. his feelings are well hidden, he thinks. but you can see it in his eyes. the pretty blue orbs cloud over, wheels turning behind them at a speed you couldn’t match.
when your friend finally hangs up, you set your phone to the side and cup his cheeks with both hands. “y’okay?” he grumbled as his arms snaked around your waist. “nothin’ you gotta worry about.” there it was. “i’m your girlfriend, that’s like the whole point.”
if he was honest with you, you may run. hide from him somewhere he’d never pull you back out of. he couldn’t lose this, lose you. after years he’s finally found something to feel safe in- someone. but he couldn’t keep pushing you. he could see it in your eyes any time he swept his own feelings under the rug and locked you out of his mind.
he huffed, pausing for a moment before finally opening up with a mumble. “i dont like sharin’… just wanna keep y’to myself.” you hum and nod, waiting for him to continue. “‘s hard. everyone loves you, everyone wants your attention. just wanna keep you in my pocket.”
he scans over you, waiting for the snap- for you to get up and run. it doesn’t come. you kiss his forehead and shoot him a comforting smile.thank you for telling me that, baby… am i doing enough for you?” it was just like you to start trying to fix it for the both of you. what else was he supposed to expect from you other than kindness?
“you’re doin’ enough, don’t worry about that, it’s just…” he drones off, not sure how to explain it. your finger taps his forehead gently. “all up here?” he nods once. “y’aren’t the only one who gets jealous, jayce.”
“it’s different.” he pouts, its adorable. “you… you’re not-” your hands cup his cheeks, forcing him to look up at you. “gonna stop you there. isnt different, and you don’t get to keep playing the ‘you aren’t broken’ card. you’re allowed to feel jealous and not feel like a monster.” he gives you a silent nod, still moping. “should i feel like a monster every time some girl looks at you while we’re out?” that was the first time you’ve admitted it, and honestly? you’d prefer he got cocky over you being jealous. he shook his head. “when it comes to us, if you wouldn’t be pissed at me doing it, don’t be pissed at yourself.”
there was a long road ahead, but he’s worth it. he’s worth it all.

So I have a lyric submission... Kind of. I couldn't choose a specific line because the whole song is so good. "If We Were Vampires" by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. Whatever pairing you choose is fine by me.

It was the great unspoken thing between you. You shared it through drunken whispers and lines in songs and glances you tried to pretend away but both held dearly like a treasured secret. The words had never been spoken aloud, not really, not directly, the closest ever coming from a feverish Jaskier who had mumbled something like them but you hadn’t asked him when he was better and he had pretended not to remember saying them.
Geralt couldn’t understand it. Jaskier had no problem shouting the words to practically all acquantinces but somehow with you they didn’t come. He could see them written plainly on his face and hear them on the tip of his tongue and every song had become a bit more poignant as time wore on. The songs grew to be less about women or even a woman and more about nebulous, metaphorical things. A forest fire that consumed him whole but from whose warm embrace he never wished to leave despite how it may be the end of him. A mountain unscalable that he walked beside, happy simply to witness its beauty and strength though there were times he wondered if he may have the temerity to attempt scaling, only to be abashed by his own uncertainty and deeply hidden insecurities. He wrote you as he saw you, everywhere around him but especially in nature. Whenever something filled him with awe he felt you there. Some went to the woods to commune with their gods, he went to feel closer to you.
But the words remained unsaid.
There were moments you hoped he’d say them but whenever it looked as if he might you felt equal terror and delight and your heart nearly broke each time he said something else instead. You knew you could say them, but it was never the right time. There would always be later. You knew that was a lie but you kept pushing the words onto a future version of yourself who you were certain would be braver or wiser or maybe have grown out of this deeply unsettling thing you felt for the friend you didn’t want to lose. Instead, you wrapped yourself up in his company like a warm blanket and waited for the day you both went hurtling towards what had to be inevitable. And some nights, though you’d be the first to admit it wasn’t a healthy way to handle things, you just drank.
“If you were immortal,” Jaskier asked one night, pale skin flushed with drink and the warmth of the fire you were both sitting far too close to for Geralt’s liking, “What would you do?”
You laughed into the copper cup you were drinking from and wiped the ale off your lips before replying.
“Well what kind of immortal?” you asked.
“Any kind!”
“They each have different pros and cons, Jaskier, I can’t just answer you willy nilly,” you argued.
“A vampire!” Jaskier threw out casually.
“Get killed by Geralt, probably,” you laughed. Geralt nodded silently across the way and then, satisfied that you weren’t going to accidentally fall into the fire, walked away to settle in with Roach.
“No but really,” Jaskier insisted, pale blue eyes peering intently at you over the flames. You thought for a moment, trying to force your roaming thoughts away from the soft disheveled hair and the frankly indecent expanse of hair covered chest visible from the ever deepening V of his unbuttoned chemise.
“I’d go to a museum probably,” you answered, “Maybe Oxenfurt, it has old things there, yeah?”
“Sure, of course,” Jaskier laughed incredulously, “But why would you go there?”
“There’s never enough time to go through them and properly look at everything. Someone is always hurrying you along,” you complained, falling into a sullen pout that made Jaskier’s heart seize.
“I could give you a tour sometime,” he offered, “I am a very prominent member of alumni after all.”
“You would?” you asked, eyes widening and hands clutching the cup tight.
“Of course,” Jaskier laughed, “I’d do anything for you.”
The last words were spoken so softly they were nearly devoured by the crackling flames but you heard them and stared at him for a long moment though he looked askance, profile illuminated and obscured by fire and shadows. You finally cleared your throat and sat upright.
“Well even still, there’s so much to see of the world and then there’s the ocean itself. There’s just never enough time to do everything you want and say everything you want and make all the mistakes you could,” you sighed.
“I’ve found that I’m fairly efficient at making mistakes and I manage to say everything I want to say. Well. Most everything,” Jaskier conceded.
“What about you?” you asked quickly, cursing yourself for being too scared to press the matter. Liquid courage my ass, you thought bitterly as you took another sip of your ale and he pondered the question.
“I suppose I’d finally say those things I’m not saying,” he replied with a shrug. He looked over to meet your eyes and you felt frozen, unable to look away but heart hammering angrily as if all of the instinct to flee was contained in it while your body stubbornly sought to fight. Maybe it would be better this way. Maybe if he could say it then you could do, or you could deny it and you could put it behind you and fall back into the companionable friendship you’d once had before emotions made it all so hard. You kept waiting for Jaskier’s face to soften or shift into a humorous little smirk, some levity to lighten the mood. But his face stayed still and serious and filled with a yearning that would make his audience weep if he would only put words to it.
“If we were vampires I suppose we could do most anything we wanted,” you said, the silence growing more painful than the fear. Jaskier could have moved in closer. He could have reached for a hundred metaphors or a thousand similes. He could have done most anything.
“But we’re not.”

MEET THE WELLNESS MEDIA TEAM
This week for Health Nut, we wanted to take you on a personal tour to meet the student staff of the Curry Health Center Wellness Media Team. Check us out-
MARY ECK
SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR
Tumblr media
The lovely Mary Eck is a 5th year senior earning a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Prevention Sciences. Her role in the Wellness Department as Social Media Coordinator is to plan, organize and schedule all of Curry Health Center’s social media platforms. She works diligently to ensure students are aware of the services, events and programs Curry provides.
When Mary is not studying her butt off, you can find her running outdoors, wind in her hair, music blaring in her ears. She also enjoys a good Stephen King novel and spending time with friends. Just about anything will make this lady laugh, but trip over your own foot or embarrass yourself in public and you’ve got her rolling. Mary’s favorite film/soundtrack is Tangerine and she prefers heels over all other types of footwear (brave soul). She is still deciding what she wants to be when she grows up, but she knows she wants to help people better their lives through health and wellness.
Mary’s favorite college course was Foundations of HHP, instructed by Dr. Burns.
It taught me to think for myself and it was the first class that truly inspired me to learn and yearn for more knowledge.
Mary has been with Curry Wellness for a year now, since fall semester 2016. After taking a Peer Health Education course, she knew she had to find a way to be a part of the Wellness Team.
I actually applied for a different job, but was given the position of Social Media Coordinator! I had no idea how to organize and run all the different social media platforms in a professional setting, but it’s been such a fun and wonderful learning experience!
The best part about working in Curry, she says, is having the ability to reach out to fellow UM students in such vast ways.
The people who make up this department genuinely care about student health and wellbeing, and I get to feel that warmth each morning I walk into the office.
#HowDoYouHealthNut
It's a must to get a morning workout in. It helps me start my day on a positive note, and helps me feel energized throughout my entire day. I've also recently started to dabble in using essential oils to promote relaxation. I'm hoping to incorporate it into my daily routine soon!
If you see miss Mary around campus, say hello!
JASON ALLEN WENTWORTH
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Tumblr media
Jason is a senior earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Filmmaking. His role in the Wellness Department as a Graphic Designer is to create much of the Curry Health Center promotional materials you see posted around campus and on social media. Without Jason, the face of Curry Health Center would be much less sun-shiny.
When he’s not on campus, Jason enjoys all of the recreational opportunities Montana has to offer. He spends time hiking, fishing, camping and relaxing with friends. Jason prefers spicy pickles over sweet ones. His mouth waters for freshly caught Walleye and his favorite class ever taken was Kayaking his freshman year.  When he grows up, Jason hopes to run his own film production company.
What makes Jason happy?
I get a rush every time I adventure into the woods to face the terrain head-on.
Sounds stormy and barbaric if you ask me... but to Jason - pure excitement. So, if you ever need him, he’s probably scouring a mountainside or kayaking down a river, catching fish with his bare hands, classic Jason.
He has been with Curry Wellness since the beginning of the current semester.
My buddy, Tanner, worked at Curry for three years and after hearing about the incredible experience he had, I knew this was the place I wanted to work.
During his time with the Wellness Media Team so far, he has been a valuable asset.
I enjoy the fact I get to be creative and design content to aid the spread of wellness across the university.
#HowDoYouHealthNut
I Health Nut by spending time in nature, enjoying the little things in life and embracing new experiences when they come my way.
If you see this guy on campus, give him a shout!
ALYSSA HARRINGTON
HEALTH NUT COORDINATOR
Tumblr media
And then there’s me. Hi, my name is Alyssa. I am a 5th year senior earning a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Prevention Sciences. My role in the Wellness Department as Health Nut Coordinator is to create, write, and post all of the content you see and read on the Health Nut blog. I occasionally take on an editor’s role for guest posts. I am passionate about the health and wellbeing of my peers. My goal with every article is that the information is relatable, relevant and accessible to students.
In my free time, I like to tailgate with my mom and cheer on the Griz, hang out with friends and hike with my dog. I’m a sucker for a good salsa, I typically laugh at my own jokes and the best movie I’ve seen recently is La La Land. When I grow up I hope to find a career path that allows me to spread my knowledge of health and wellness to others.
I joined the Wellness Media Team fall semester 2016 after hearing about the opportunity in a Community Health class. I was excited to apply for a position that would encompass all of my passions - creativity, writing, health promotion and student wellness. I love working at Curry because the staff is amazing and the work is rewarding.
#HowDoYouHealthNut
I like to think of health as a journey. The process can make you feel amazing, but it can be overwhelming at times. Trying to juggle the components of student life while maintaining mental, physical and emotional wellbeing is tricky for anyone. I try to remind myself to take it one day at a time and focus on what I can do to feel healthy today.
NOW THAT YOU’VE MET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES, WE WANT TO GET TO KNOW YOU! CURRY HEALTH CENTER WELLNESS WILL BE HOSTING A HEALTH NUT EVENT ON THE OVAL NEXT WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH FROM 10:00AM-2:00PM. ALL MEDIA TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE, PLUS SEVERAL PEER HEALTH EDUCATORS!  SWING BY FOR FREE ENERGY BITES AND ANSWER THE QUESTION #HowDoYouHealthNut
