This is a PromptoxOC Fanfic. It will sometimes contain drawings and brief comics of the events happening through the story. It follows the entire game events, so it’s reccommended not to read it if you want to play the game, since it will contain major spoilers. If you don’t care or just wanna fangirl over some weirdos hanging around, you’re very welcome to do so. Plus, I apologize for possible language mistakes, English is not my first language. To know more about my main character please visit her PROFILE PAGE Don’t forget to follow me on dA!
CHAPTER 1
From the very beginning we are not allowed to choose. Our existence is the result of a decision of others, which we have never been able to decide. In addition, place and time we are born will determine our future, whether we want it or not. There are those born in prosperity, surrounded by loved ones; there are those much less fortunate who never knew the true meaning of live. Life is a mountain, and that first category of people is already in the middle of their journey. That’s why it’s easier for them to reach the summit. For the others, even hard work and effort can’t compensate. That’s why I never liked royalty. They can’t understand the struggle and the pain to success. The Kingdom of Lucis has always been governed by the royal family from which I always kept away. False and snobbery families, that’s what they are. And now here I am, at twenty years old fleeing from Insomnia to travel the world in search of adventures. Or so I was hoping. Eventually I found myself without a penny accepting unsuitable works for my person in order to mantain me and my trusted companion, a cacatua named BlaBla. Moving from a city to another I tried everything, from deliveries to waitress, most of the time getting lost in forests or slipping food into the face of my customers. I have never been proud of my clumsyness, but sometimes I would have preferred to be conceived differently. The truth is that movement and action have never been my strength. I prefer to remain in my controlled zone, ready to intervene from behind the scenes, in short, the classic strategist character never chosen by anyone in RPGs. One day I found the right place for me. The Chocobo Farm is like a dream coming true. I’ve always loved animals and the owner, Wiz, seems to have accepted me in a good way. He doesn’t even get angry when I stumble into the chocobo’s fodder. Even BlaBla seems to get along quite well with his distant relatives. - Ester, did you finish with the cabbage? Tomatoes needs to be washed too - Wiz says from the outside of the crummy little house. I slit my head out of the window. - Yes, I’ll be right back! I bring the food to the nearest chocobo and give it to them, getting a happy peck on the shoulder. I pet the animal and realize that in the end my situation is not bad at all. If it wasn’t that these days the territory is occupied by Deadeye, a wild behemoth that forced us  to close the Chocobo service until new order. - Did you find some hunters? - I ask Wiz, wiping my hands in a rag. - I contacted the Meldacio association but apparently all available hunters are already busy with other monster chunks … hopefully they will come back soon. I sigh. We poor mortals cannot do anything against a behemoth of that size and this irritates me a lot. Tonight, while I’m eating with BlaBla and playing a mobile game, King’s Knight, inside the caravan, visitors come for the first time after a long time. I take a look out the window and notice four people, all men and everyone very young. One of them is annoyingly familiar. I open my ears and listen.

- Hey, but aren’t you the hunters everyone is talking so much about? - Wiz exclaims astonished. - The rumors about our business have come this far, did you see, Noctis? - one of the four replies, slender body and blond hair. Despite its particularly attractive appearance, it’s not him who draws my attention. He said Noctis? Noctis, the Prince of Lucis?  That’s why he seemed familiar. But didn’t everyone assume him for dead? This is pretty strange. I tend to stay away from political problems but sometimes I can’t help but hear the voices from the radio. I make myself presentable - and for presentable I mean cleaning up the dust from my face and taking off yellow feathers from my hair - and I join the conversation. - Ester, apparently we have found hunters ready to help us, - Wiz says with a big smile. - Really? Magnificent, - I reply with a laugh, knowing who I am in front of. - She’s Ester, she’s been working here for a long time now, helping me taking care of the Chocobos. If you need help please ask any of us two. - Thank you,- the dark-haired prince replies. Behind him a massive presence puts me in awe, probably the squire, and a tall stoic man fixes his glasses on the nose. However, the blond guy, along with the so-called Prince, keep having familiar features. - Then we’re going, - Noctis announces after buying some potions, - We’ll be back sooner than expected. - Be careful, - Wiz says, watching the hunters leaving. - I couldn’t imagine the prince of Lucis lowering himself at being a hunter - I comment. - What? The Prince of Lucis? You joking? - Don’t tell me you didn’t recognize him. - No. Wasn’t he supposed to be missing? - Dead. He was supposed to be dead. Wiz sighs. - Well, that’s good news actually. For Insomnia, I mean. There is still hope. And you! Don’t start spitting bad judgments when he’s near you. - Hey, what do I look like to you? - Someone who has always hated blue blood and hardly ever keeps their mouth shut. Taken off-shore, I can’t answer. He’s totally right. - Finish settling down and go to bed, since if those guys are successful, tomorrow there will be a lot of work to be done to set up the rental service again. - I’m not sleepy, boss, go to bed, I’ll take care of here tonight. - Are you sure? - Wiz looks at me carefully. - Sure, plus I still have to finish my video game. - Whatever. You’ll have to sleep in the other house today since the guys will be taking the caravan. I sigh. - Guess it can’t  be helped. Wiz makes his last recommendations and goes away, leaving me alone with the Moon and my doubts. Minutes become hours, until a sound in the forest makes me jump from the chair. I remain silent, listening, when a black dog gets out from the bushes. - Hey! - I whisper with the typical retarded voice coming up every time I have to deal with adorable creatures - Where did you come from? Are you lost? The animal, in response, looks at me and goes inside the forest again. Towards the off-limit zone. - No, wait, it’s dangerous to go there! But, of course, I’m ignored. I have no choice but to leave the spot and bring the dog back. Actually, I had a choice, but animals always come first so thinking rationally is not an option. I follow him for a few moments, until it starts running. I swear under my breath and follow him into the woods, lighting my cell phone torch. The lights in the area should be enough to keep the daemons at bay. For a while, at least. Any attempt to grab it fails miserably, until I realize I am too far away from the farm. At that moment a strange headache hits me and I have no choice but to close my eyes for a few seconds, losing sight of the objective. Shit. This is no good. I proceed with caution until I find myself in a long path and surrounded by a dense gray fog that increases at every step. I have never been a person easily influenced or fearful, I often try to adapt to new situations and find the best solution to things. That’s why I decide to continue, hoping to be able to bring the animal back without further problems. But of course, things don’t go exactly as expected. The road gets wider and becomes a flat land. A roar reach my ears and I get attracted by the glittering lights in the darkness. Battle sounds. Someone is fighting. I remember the hunters from a few hours before and I think that I should go back immediately. The mysterious dog suddenly passes by me heading torward the same area. Panicked, I start running. - No! Hey, don’t go over there! No positive feedback. I have no choice but to get the dog out of trouble by myself before it enters involuntarily into the battle, which seen from a closer look, it’s like a lively sky of different colors. Fire, ice, bluish and blinding lights. I have to move away as soon as possible. I don’t want to get involved. But it’s too late. A sudden pain strucks my head and this time I fall on the floor. High-speed images run through my mind like an old movie. Scenes never seen, unknown characters, the four travelers fighting the behemoth. The behemoth is clearly having the best, two of them are knocked out, surrounded by magic flames, helpless. Then I see myself, with a spell of Fire Magic in my hand. A flower of fire, warm, a nice warmth. I launch the ball to one of the many barrels scattered on the field and the environment explodes in a powerful flame. The vision ends and I find myself laying down, with my hands on the temples. What the hell was that?  Do I actually need to sleep more? Unexpectedly, the little dog comes by my side, frightened. - Hey, what the hell was that? - I ask, not expecting a reply. My attention is driven to the battlefield. Lights and metallic sounds keep roaring in the air. The situation is worse than before. One of them, the tallest one, is knocked out, lying to the ground. Damn it. I have to help them. Is that vision becoming a reality? I don’t have time to question anymore. I difficulty get up, losing my balance a little, and hurry near them. While the beast is lying injured but not defeated, the Prince and his companions have a moment to catch their breath. Can I trust that vision I had? After all, I don’t see any other choice. I have to grab that possibility. And as far as I know it’s truly possible those barrels were used to transport flammable liquids. - Hey, hunters! - I yell from a bush behind them, hoping not to get noticed by the behemot. The Prince turns his head, clearly surprised. - You?! What are you doing? It’s dangerous here! - Cut that crap and listen! You see those red barrels? - I say , forgetting I’m currently speaking to a royal member, but he seems unbothered. He turns again fixing his gaze to the objects of interest. - What about them? - They contain explosive liquid. Use your magic and make that ugly thing go boom! - I suggest, mimicking an explosion with my hand since he probably can’t hear me well. He appears to understand immediately. He says something to the biggest guy and then rapidly create a magic sphear that gets thrown rapidly at one of the barrels. I seriously hope I was right. Surprisingly, the barrel blows up and fire fills the air. The beast gives out a scream and keels over. Was that enough? Did it actually work? I run beside them. - It worked, right? - I ask suspicious. - It did - the man with the glasses said, now on his feet but clearly hurt. - It was berely standing but still…  managed to overthrow us. I’m disappointed. But you had a great idea, thank you. The blond guy quickly nods. - Yeah. It was a pretty bad situation. You probably saved us! - I did nothing. Actually, I… I stop. Is it okay to actually tell them my idea was based on something I saw on my mind? Probably not. - … I came here because I was running after a dog. - A dog? - the Prince asked, interested. - Yeah, a black dog, it was weird. It looked like all he wanted was to reach up to you guys. They all exchanged a glance. - Umbra? - Gladio asked. - Mostly. Umbra! - Noctis screams, and the dog quickly shows up from a nearby tree. The dog barks and everyone seems pleased by the situation. Noctis takes what looks like a notebook from the bandana tied at its neck. - What is that? - I ask. - A message service - the Glasses guy respond. I don’t intend to deepen the topic. After Noctis writes something down on one page, the dog runs away. - Did I just risk my life to get you a message delivered? - I ask. - Yeah, and you should feel great about that. This is the only way Noctis and Lady Lunafreya have to talk to each other. - Lunafreya? The Oracle? Oh, now I remember. You were gonna get married with her. - “Now I remember”? - the big scary guy repeats sarcastically, - Where have you been living these days? - The further I could from society, probably. That replied his question because he says nothing more. - Wow, I feel like a hero that just saved a nation! Will I get a reward? The blond guy laughs but the Prince limits himself to a sigh. - Didn’t you just do what is right for your people? I’d gladly reply “you’re not my people”, but remembering I was standing in front of someone who could have easily said a word and I would have found myself without the tongue, I decides to keep it short with a - I guess… To break the awkward silence that follows, I slightly but unwillingly bow in front of the Prince. - Well then, I hope everything goes well for you guys. And leave to get back to my farm. I hope Wiz didn’t get one of his incontinence attacks while I wasn’t guarding. The next morning I weak up at the usual time, while Wiz is already taking care of the yellow birds. - Hello! - I exclaim holding a yawn. - Is everything okay? - Hi Ester. Yeah, they all seem okay, and apparently those hunters defeated the behemot last night. We can finally free our Chocobos in the area. Good, so he doesn’t know I was with them. - They did? Amazing. Speaking of which, one of the four guys appears beside me, yawning louder than I always do. - Morning - the blond guy says. Looking at him with more attention, he has deep blue eyes and a galaxy of freckles surrounding them. He is actually extremely pretty. I’m totally sure I saw him before, but I can’t remember. It’s really bothering me. - Uh, hi - I reply, trying to make off my best smile. - I had a very good night sleep, I feel refreshed. Noctis is still sleeping though. - Please enjoy your time while you’re staying here. Chocobos are now at your service. The blond guy glows up and put on the biggest happy smile I have ever seen. - Yes! Thank you! Chocobos ~ - You’re already macking a ruckus in the early morning? The new voice comes from the tall and powerful guy. He really has an intimidating aura of his own. - Gladio, Chocobos are now available! Isn’t it great?! - I guess. But we have to leave soon today. We have a Royal arm to take care of. The blond guy sighs. - Yeah… you’re right. Oh! And he  addresses me. - Have we not introduced ourselves yet? I’m Prompto and the big scary guy here is Gladio. He grunts and the other two missing people shows up moments later. - And these stragglers here are Ignis and… well, Prince Noctis. My enthusiasm flies away in an instanst. - Honored. - We’ll be back, Wiz. Thanks for the hospitality. - No, thanks to you! I couldn’t hope for better hunters. Ester, explain them how the Chocobo service works. I have urgent things to do. - Sure thing. He leaves mumbling something about Chocobos’ food. I do as I am told and make my way to their car with them, to say our goodbyes. - So, thank you again for helping us last night - the Prince says, surprisingly. - No problem. Happy to be of help sometimes. You owe me a dinner, I guess. I expect him to yell at me to bow, but instead he just laughs it off. - Why not. - I’d be glad to cook for you - Ignis agrees. I smile ready to go back to the farm, but suddenly my head starts to pulse, a cacophony of sounds and images appears again in front of me. I scream. This time, a voice makes through my head reaching the deepest part of my conscience. “It’s okay, don’t be afraid.” “Who are you?” “Please, listen to what I’m gonna say.” “I’m not, if you’re not gonna reveal yourself first. Am I going crazy?” “No, you’re not. I  am speaking to you through my power of the Oracle.” “… Lunafreya…?” “I am. Please, now pay attention. You’ve been chosen to help the Prince in his journey, to take Insomnia back.” “What?! Me?! What do you mean?” “You were born with a gift, Ester Sidus, a gift that neither you or others were aware of. I have, now, unlocked it for you to make use of them.” “A gift? What? What kind of gift?” “This. This is your gift. Seeing through space and time. Being able to travel between dimensions. Please, Ester, help Noctis.” “Wait… help? What do you mean?” “I cannot talk to you any longer. Stay at his side. Save Lucis.” “Don’t you dare-” And everything disappears as it started. I find myself down on my knees, hands on the head, trembling. - Hey! Hey! She bounced back! A voice I recognize rings in my ears. Prompto is shaking my shoulders, worried. - What… just happened? - You suddenly started screaming and crouched. You totally scared us! Like after a dream, I remember what just happened. I turn to face the Prince, who is giving me a suspicious look as well. - I, uh… think we need to talk. TO BE CONTINUED…
