Best Apps For Productivity & Studying
Tumblr media
Hello there lovelies! It hasn’t been long since I started my vacay and soon enough, school is about to start. A few days from now I’ll be entering my school as a junior, aka 3rd-year college student. Time flies fast, doesn’t it? I started this blog when I was in my junior year of high school and now I’m a college student!
Speaking of school, I have here 4 apps that I really love to use for studying and any academic-related tasks, or whenever I need to be productive. These are 4 of the best apps out there that can help you be more productive and track your progress. You can also use these apps regardless if you’re in high school or college. Another thing about these apps is they are all easy to use and navigate. Lastly, these are all free to download on IOS and Android devices.
Tumblr media

1. Google Calendar
First on the list is Google Calendar. Of all the calendar apps to choose from, this is my favorite. I have tried several calendar apps in the past and this is the only one I continue using and will use forever!
The layout is simple, easy to use, customizable, and it has a lot of features. I like that you can notify yourself multiple times for an event or task. I also like that you share an event (or calendar/tasks) with your organization, friends, and family. Another thing that I like about this app is how convenient it is because you can use it via desktop or your mobile devices.
Note: you can also add more colors for your calendar/event by clicking the three dots when hovering over a calendar, then click add custom color.
Tumblr media
2. Yeolpumta
This is probably one of my best discoveries last semester! It’s easy to use, very customizable, functional, and of course, very aesthetically pleasing.
The app itself looks very minimalist and there arent a lot of distractions. Aside from that, you can use this app for a wide range of options such as a habit tracker, study tracker, pomodoro, etc. I personally use this as a progress and study tracker. This also helps you to stay focused because it wont let you leave the screen unless you’re using one of the allowed apps, which you can also choose which to include. In addition, it also has tons of features like the timer and calculator option, a dictionary, and white noise feature as well as see the users who are also studying at that time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Notion
Notion is one of my favorite apps and I’ve been using it since I started college. I use Notion for everything! My habit tracker, expense tracker, reading tracker, journal, class schedule, to-do list, or basically my life is in here. The screenshots above is what half of my Notion dashboard looks like.
You can find lots of cool templates online or you can just create your own. It can be overwhelming at first, but once you get the gist of it, the things that you can create are endless. You may search for Alyanna Ross on Youtube because she has a lot of Notion-related videos and you can learn so much from her.
Tumblr media
(Alyanna Ross is one of my fave YouTubers so go check her out!)
As mentioned above, you can use Notion for various things, may it be for school, work, life, or productivity. You can add lots of widgets to further customize your setup and make it more tailored to your needs. Take advantage also of the tables and columns to enhance your Notion setup.
Tumblr media
4. Forest
This app is one of my faves to record how long I am studying. It’s also easy to use and can be used on your mobile devices or as a Chrome extension. It’s up to you to select the time or minutes of studying and after that, you get to plant a tree. If you stop, your tree also withers.
I honestly prefer Yeolpumta nowadays because it has more features. However, I am also after the plant a real-life tree feature of Forest and so far, I have already planted 5 trees! Sadly tho, 5 is the maximum.
----------------------
That’s all for today’s blog post, loves! I also just want to say that this is not sponsored. I personally use all the apps that I have mentioned on this post. Anyway, at the end of the day, your progress depends upon your will to take action and nothing will happen if you will not act. Nonetheless, I hope that these apps can also help you to be productive as much as they helped me. Originally posted on my Wordpress blog Aestrophilia.
Stay self and healthy everyone!
Lets stay connected:

I really love your moodboards so much!!!! What advice do you have for making them?? Because I've ALWAYS wanted to make them but never known where to start!!
Hi. Thank you. 😊
Advice, hmm. I'd say figuring out what software/app you like using best is important. There's lots out there that can help making moodboards and it will also depend on if you're creating on desktop or on mobile. I settled on Canva which I mainly use on desktop, though their mobile app has improved lots in the last few years so I sometimes use that to make drafts/minor edits. Pic Collage is another popular one. Probably best to try several and see which you get on with.
For photos...Learning how to use Google image search options is very helpful, so you can find images that better fit what you're looking for, especially to set it to high quality. I mainly use that to find actor images, from interviews or promos or photoshoots. When I find an image I like I just right-click and save image as, but it's important to check it hasn't saved a smaller thumbnail version of the picture because that occasionally happens! Sometimes images save as a webp image rather than usual jpeg/png and not all software supports that - I think you can convert them to jpeg or png somehow, but I tend to just use Windows Snipping Tool to capture the image instead as it lets you drag a rectangle on screen to copy what you see in that area to a jpeg or png.
I have a lot of free stock photo websites bookmarked so that if I can't find something I like on one there's plenty more options - Pixabay, Pexels & unsplash are a few that come to mind. Some of them also have mobile apps available. I also pay for Canva Pro as that has a lot more stock images built in to Canva then, but Canva also has some free ones, as well as the ability to upload to your account any images you download from the web in your searches. You do have to get quite creative on search terms sometimes because stock photos aren't very well captioned. It also helps if you have the source material to take your own screenshots (I use the 'take a snapshot' feature in VLC media player with tv/films) but if you don't have access to the source material then finding a HQ screencaps website to use is good. Also, either Windows Snipping Tool or software like ShareX can be used to get screencaps from streaming sites if you're on desktop.
More general advice would be, have a look at lots of moodboards/aesthetics and figure out what you like about them, what catches your eye visually, what formats you like (3x3 grid, 2x4 grid etc). But bear in mind everyone has their own style and you might not know what yours is like for a while. I really admire minimalist aesthetics - where it's 1 item centred per picture on a plain background - and I tried my hand at those when I started out but I never had much success doing those because it turns out my style is very much about colour most of the time. These days, I try to have a few key colours to tie the different pictures together and usually no more than 2 types of font. I also try to balance the pictures in terms of light/dark and spread of colours, to have some kind of symmetry but that's sort of hard to explain well without examples.
I possibly rambled on too long but I hope some of this was helpful. <3

could we get pt. 3 of zoom interrupted??? i need to know what happened after the second meeting.
I know I already did the part 3. So how’s about a part 4?
Zoom Interrupted Masterlist
~~~~~
Rowan was trying not to zone out for the tenth time in this Zoom meeting. But he was just so tired. He had been taking care of Elsie almost entirely by himself, Aelin was still not feeling her best and she was tired all the time so it was Rowan pulling the hard yards. He didn’t mind, he wasn’t the one creating a human life. But it just meant he had a hard time focusing on work, especially when his daughter was being adorably distracting. She was doing things like lining up small horse toys on his desk, asking him to open snacks or a packet of crayons in her cute little voice.
Aelin wasn’t home, she had gone for a check up and a scan, and because of the current conditions he wasn’t allowed to go with her. Plus there was the fact they had a toddler who no one was really allowed to babysit anyway. So Rowan had stayed home and left the study door open so that Elsie could walk in and out as she pleased and he could keep an ear out for what she was up to. Right now he heard a dragging noise and then she came through the door, her mini backpack dragging behind her. Rowan smiled at her and she gave him a toothy grin in return.
“Whitethorn.”
Rowan nearly jumped at Lorcan’s voice, but managed to keep his cool. “Yes?”
“I’m going to pretend this isn’t the third time I’ve asked you for those numbers,” Lorcan said, but his voice was lacking it’s usual harshness. He was the most understanding of all Rowan’s colleagues, with a hellion like Korbin running their household.
“Yeah, one sec,” Rowan started lifting the toys on his desk to find the paper that he needed. As he did there was a screech and Rowan froze, looking over at his daughter.
She started waving her hands, her brow furrowed in her distress as she said, “No, no, no, no, no.”
She toddled over and Rowan tried to figure out what she was upset about. Then he looked at what he held in his hand. He had moved her horses. Muffled laughter sounded from his screen, they all knew that laughing at Elspeth was a dangerous game if she wasn’t in on the joke.
“Sorry, little love,” Rowan said, putting the horse back where he found it as Elsie glared up at him. “Dada just needed to get his papers.”
“Ta!” Elsie said, raising one hand and doing a grabby action.
Rowan took a guess at what she was asking for and started handing her her horses and she put them in her backpack, one by one. When she was done she left, taking her full backpack with her. That left Rowan to go back to looking for the page he needed. It seemed that Elsie had been in his papers as well and they were all mixed up. His colleagues were chatting amongst themselves while they waited. Rowan knew if it had been any other day they would have been ripping into him, telling him to hurry up, but instead they were being lenient. Finally, Rowan found the page he was looking for, but his face fell when he saw he couldn’t read it because it was covered in thick, black texta lines.
Rowan shook his head, “Hold on, I’ll have to grab it off my laptop again.” Frazzled, he grabbed his laptop from the corner of the desk. When he opened it he saw it was almost out of battery and he didn’t want it cutting out mid sentence. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Ducking under the desk Rowan grabbed the charging cord, Elsie calling his name from right next to him made him jump and he smacked his head on the underside of the desk. He bit back his curse, not wanting Elsie to repeat it. When he emerged she was holding out a hat to him, one of Aelin’s. It was a blue felt thing with a pink ribbon around it, with a wide and floppy brim.
“Do I have to?” Rowan asked.
Elsie stepped closer, offering it to him. With a sigh he took it and put it on.
“Looking good, Rowan,” Vaughan teased.
“It really makes your complexion pop,” Connall added.
“Yeah, yeah,” Rowan said, not even looking at the desktop while he looked at his laptop screen.
Elsie was unpacking her horses again, lining them back up on the desk, Rowan didn’t try to stop her.
“Ok, I’ve got it,” Rowan said and started rattling off his report. The brim of the hat kept falling into his face so he went to take it off. There was another screech and Rowan’s heart just about stopped in his chest. “Gods damn it.”
“Dammit!” Elsie parroted back to him.
“Ah — no,” Rowan stammered, “don’t say that, alright?”
Fenrys just laughed at him and the others joined in. Then Fenrys lent forward, “Elsie, sweetheart, what you got there?”
She could barely see over the top of the desk but she looked up at the screen and held up one of her toy horses to show Fenrys. “Neigh,” she said by way of explanation.
“Oh, a horse,” Fenrys said very seriously. “Do you have anymore?”
Elise started to babble away, showing Fenrys toy after toy as he nodded and gushed over when he showed her, not understanding her in the slightest. Rowan gave his friend a grateful look as the distraction let him remove the hat. Soon Elsie had gone through all the horses and then pointed to Fenrys.
“‘Tay dere,” she told Fenrys and she toddled out of the study.
With the distraction gone Rowan continued to go through his report. Elsie came back in and Rowan assumed she had just brought in another toy to show her audience but then there was a choking noise, and he looked up to see Gavriel choking on his drink. Confused, Rowan looked down to Elsie and he felt his cheeks flush.
“Ahhh ffffuuuu...dgeballs,” Rowan muttered and then could only stare.
Lorcan noticed next and snorted.
Rowan felt as though his face was burning. Elsie had somehow managed to find an empty condom box and was now using it as what looked like to be disproportionate stable for her horses. The box bent out of shape as she tried to cram them in.
“Wait, what?” Fenrys blurted out as he registered what Elsie had. “If you had those… Oh, it’s empty, that explains things.”
“Mute him now!” Gavriel said, his voice strained still recovering from his choking.
There were murmurs of agreement and then Fenrys said, “What, wh —“
He didn’t get to finish his sentence before Lorcan muted him. He flipped off the rest of his colleagues.
“What is going on?”
Rowan turned to see Aelin standing in the doorway, a small smile on her face as she took in the scene before her.
“Why is Elsie using that box as a house?” Aelin asked, not embarrassed in the slightest. “And why is Fenrys holding up a sign with insults written on it?”
Rowan looked at the screen and Fenrys was indeed holding up a sign featuring some colourful language. Lucky Elsie couldn't read yet.
“Want to see something?” She asked Rowan. He nodded and she pulled out a photo from her pocket. “There is our little baby.”
Rowan looked at the little black and white photo, the writing in the top corner reading 9 week + 2 days. In the middle was a little figure that was just starting to look like a real teeny tiny human, with a head and little limbs. But there it was and Rowan couldn’t help the tears that were stinging at his eyes.
When he was done he handed it back to Aelin and she turned it to show everyone on the screen. They all ooo-ed and ahh-ed, Fenrys held up a sign that said congratulations, Connall said it was already looking like Rowan and Aelin exclaimed, “That’s what I said!” Elsie reached up, doing her grabby hands again and Rowan lifted her into his lap. Aelin passed her the photo as she then rested on Rowan’s knee and talked to her uncle, the meeting very well and truly derailed once again.
“What dis?” Elsie asked, pointing to the photo.
“That’s the baby that’s growing in Mummy’s tummy. That’s your baby brother or sister,” Rowan explained.
“Baby,” Elsie said as she touched the photo. “Essie baby.” Then she hugged the photo to her chest.
Aelin turned precariously so she could watch her daughter, no doubt catching a glimpse of what was happening on the screen. Her eyes were starting to brim with tears and she lent down to kiss Rowan.
“And I think we’re done,” Lorcan said and Rowan’s screen went entirely black as he was disconnected, leaving the family to enjoy this moment on their own.
Coming Up With Character Aesthetic's
Pintrest
Pintrest is my tried and true best friend. I use it for everything from characters to setting to the overall vibe for my story.
Step 1: Make A Board for your Story
Tumblr media
Step 2: Title your Board with your Story Title.
This is pretty self explainitory.
Step 3: Add a Section and Title it with your character's name.
Tumblr media
Step 3: Search the Aesthetic.
Think of your character. What is their Aesthetic? Are they grunge? or more of a Soft Girl? Are the a Tiktok baddie or a Visco Girl? Find their style and search it up on pintrest.
My character has a soft girl aestheic.
Tumblr media
Step 4: Pin photos to your board.
Tumblr media
Canva
Once I have a good amount of photos I switch over to canva! Which allows me to make a board full of my character and her aesthetic!
This is completely optional if your fine with your characters aesthetic you can stop here. But if you want to go a step further hang around.
Step 1: Save photo's from pintrest.
I’m not—okay, look, I’m not recording this for personal reasons this time. I know last night was…really rough, and I should probably talk through it more with myself before I do anything irrational.
It really was just an awful night, huh? Not only did I cry in the Sonic parking lot, but I got home immediately afterwards and found out that the yellow mold had started growing in my kitchen. [SHE SCOFFS.] Yeah, not my night.
That’s not important, though. What is important is that…
[SHE TAKES A DEEP BREATH.]
IRENE
Last night, in the woods, I saw something that I couldn’t explain. Today, I am going to find it again and confront it—and this time, figure out what the hell it is instead of running away.
I guess this is sort of me taking you with me for the ride. It’s also for evidence purposes, though. [MUTTERS] For once, I have an actually valid reason to be recording myself.
Here goes nothing.
[PHONE BEEP.]
[RECORDING ENDS.]
[ANOTHER PHONE BEEP.]
[INT. THE STAFF KITCHEN AT IRENE’S WORK.]
[THERE ARE FOOTSTEPS ACROSS THE TILE FLOOR.]
IRENE
Aden.
[ADEN DROPS A SPOON IN HIS SURPRISE.]
ADEN
Jesus—oh, Irene! Thank goodness, you’re alright. You, you startled me. [sigh of relief] I never heard from you last night after your…adventure, so I thought you had—
IRENE
[CONFUSED] Wait, you seriously didn’t hear anything?
ADEN
...no? You never—
IRENE
Aden, I tried to contact you through the radio.
ADEN
…oh. [HE REALIZES.] Oh! That makes sense. I swear, my radio got all static-y while I was watching TV, but no words were coming through. I thought it was broken.
IRENE
[SHE HUFFS A SIGH.] That…that’s fair, actually. Look, I’m fine now, okay? That’s what matters.
ADEN
Oh, that’s good. [STUTTERING] I definitely wouldn’t—I would have gotten fired if I had let you get killed by wild bears. [HE CHUCKLES.] Actually, wait, why were you trying to contact me?
IRENE
[HESITANT] It wasn’t bears, I promise. It was…something worse, I guess?
ADEN
Worse than bears?
IRENE
You really hate bears, don’t know?
ADEN
[PASSIONATELY] Obviously! They’re horrifying killing machines! How could you not be terrified of them?
[HE HUFFS.] What did you see, though?
[A BEAT OF SILENCE.]
IRENE
Promise you won’t think I’m crazy.
ADEN
Oh, I already think you’re crazy. You talk into your phone for a person who will never listen.
IRENE
[DEFENSIVE] I do not—[STUTTERING] I mean—
[DEFEATED] How did you know?
ADEN
Carol told me.
IRENE
[MUTTERS] Oh, of course she did. [BACK TO A NORMAL TONE] Just please promise to hear me out?
[ADEN PONDERS FOR A MOMENT.]
ADEN
Alright, sure. Go ahead.
IRENE
I saw a big writhing monster rise up from the ground.
ADEN
[SUDDENLY OUTRAGED] Oh! Oh, okay! Sure! “Hey, let’s play a fun prank on Aden! He sure seems gullible and easy to scare. How about we make him believe that a big old beast in the forest—”
[IRENE STUTTERS IN FRUSTRATION AS SHE ATTEMPTS TO CUT HIM OFF.]
IRENE
[OVERLAPPING HIS LAST FEW WORDS] Aden, I’m not messing with you. Cross my heart. I went to go check out the branches, and I turned around because I heard a scream, and when I turned back around, the branches and the dirt had gotten up into this huge living mass. I can’t make this shit up. I don’t even have a good reason to.
ADEN
[SKEPTICAL] Okay…
IRENE
I even recorded it happening. I know it’s just audio, but it’s still proof.
ADEN
Alright…
IRENE
[CONTINUING] And I promise I’ll play it for you if you just promise to come with me and help me find the creature.
[A PAUSE.]
ADEN
[SLOWLY] You…want me to…go monster hunting with you?
IRENE
[A BEAT.] Yeah.
[A PAUSE WHERE ADEN WAITS TO SEE IF IRENE IS JOKING.]
ADEN
Oh, you’re being serious about all this, um—Could I at least finish my coffee first?
IRENE
Take as long as you need. I’ll tell Carol we’re going out to do some field work, and then we can go back out to the branches.
ADEN
You actually think we’re going to be able to find it? I mean, if it even is real and not just a figment of your imagination—
IRENE
[DEFENSIVE] Hey—
ADEN
—then how can we prove that it even comes out during the day? Or maybe it only comes out when there’s only one person?
IRENE
[CONSIDERING] You have a point, I guess.
I have to check, though. I need to figure out what it is. Because if there’s an actual eldritch beast or whatever hiding out in our woods, I have a feeling that’s going to be just as, if not more dangerous than your average forest fire.
ADEN
[HE SIGHS.] You really believe what you saw?
IRENE
Yeah.
[ADEN THINKS FOR A MOMENT.]
ADEN
Okay. Alright, I, I’ll go. Just give me a bit.
IRENE
[SHE HEAVES A SIGH OF RELIEF.] Thank you.
[PHONE BEEP.]
[RECORDING ENDS.]
[ANOTHER PHONE BEEP.]
[INT. THE FOREST.]
[THERE IS FAINT FOREST AMBIANCE AND BIRD SONG IN THE BACKGROUND. FOOTSTEPS AS ADEN AND IRENE WALK.]
ADEN
You’re seriously recording this?
IRENE
If we’re going to run into it again, we need evidence.
ADEN
[HE SCOFFS.] Then take a photo and upload it to Instagram or something! A recording without any video hardly counts for anything.
IRENE
[SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE AND EMBARRASED] I...I don’t have Instagram.
ADEN
Alright then, whatever you have. Twitter, Tumblr, whatever. It was mostly just a joke.
IRENE
I don’t have anything, actually.
ADEN
Oh. [HE CHUCKLES.] Didn’t really take you for the “off the grid” sort.
IRENE
I’m not. I just don’t have room on my phone for any social media apps.
[A PAUSE IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS.]
ADEN
Don’t tell me your entire phone is just those audio recordings.
IRENE
[SHE WINCES.] And what would you say if that was the case?
ADEN
Irene!
IRENE
[SHE GROANS.] Come on. I can still text, call, and check my email. I just...can’t do much else.
ADEN
[DISTRAUGHT] Not even listen to music? That’s a terrible and sad life to lead, Irene.
IRENE
I use CD’s or vinyl whenever I want to listen to stuff.
ADEN
[TEASING] Oh, so you have a retro aesthetic?
IRENE
I have no clue what my aesthetic is. Can we please just find the branches?
ADEN
Whatever you say.
[THEIR FOOTSTEPS COME TO A HALT.]
IRENE
This is it.
ADEN
…so, what now?
IRENE
We wait, I guess?
ADEN
[WONDERING WHY HE AGREED TO THIS] Ah. Okay.
What exactly were you doing when you saw it the first time?
IRENE
Nothing? I was just standing here. I turned around, and when I turned back, there it was.
ADEN
Well then, maybe we shouldn’t stare at it.
IRENE
Good idea. [A BEAT.] Okay, how about this: we go sit on those rocks over there, wait for a bit, and then see what happens?
ADEN
[ANXIOUSLY] Or, wait, I have a better idea! We could just go back to work and pretend this never, ever happened.
IRENE
We’re already here, Aden. We might as well try.
ADEN
[WORRIED, BUT DEFEATED] Fine.
[THEY BOTH WALK OVER TO THE ROCKS AND SIT DOWN.]
ADEN
Now we wait?
IRENE
Yup.
ADEN
[SLOWLY] What should we talk about?
IRENE
Um…I guess just, anything? What do you want to talk about?
ADEN
Hm… [HE THINKS FOR A MOMENT.] What kind of music do you listen to?
IRENE
A mix. Um, I like Fall Out Boy?
ADEN
[SNORTS LAUGHING] Fall Out Boy? Seriously?
IRENE
What? Their older stuff is good.
ADEN
Ah, so you’re only a classic Fall Out Boy fan.
IRENE
[SLIGHTLY DEFENSIVE] I just haven’t listened to their newer stuff, that’s all. I’m not trying to be an elitist or anything.
ADEN
[HE CHUCKLES.] Sure, sure. What else? [A BEAT.] If you say MCR next, I swear, I’ll never look at you the same again.
IRENE
[SHE SNORTS.] I mean, I dunno. Cage is good. I used to listen to Glass Animals a lot, too, but it’s been a while.
ADEN
Those are respectable choices.
IRENE
What about you? [TEASING] I’m guessing you only listen to the most underground of indie.
ADEN
Mm, actually, not really. I mean, I’m sure you’ve heard of Mitski, Superorganism—
IRENE
[OVERLAPPING] Mitski?
[A PAUSE.]
ADEN
Your life is a joke, Irene.
[IRENE STARTS LAUGHING, BUT ADEN REMAINS DEAD SERIOUS.]
ADEN
I’m serious. Your life is a joke and I have no idea how you manage to live this way.
IRENE
[STILL LAUGHING] Fine! Fine. I’ll listen to Mitski.
ADEN
Oh no, I’m definitely forcing you to listen to her on the way back. That’s a promise.
[IRENE’S LAUGHTER DIES OFF, AND THERE’S A MOMENT OF SILENCE.]
IRENE
What else?
ADEN
I dunno.
Who do you record messages for?
IRENE
[SHE BECOMES MORE SERIOUS.] What?
ADEN
If you don’t mind answering, that is.
[A BEAT. IRENE SIGHS HEAVILY.]
IRENE
My ex-girlfriend.
ADEN
Ah. I understand not being able to move on from a relationship, [WHISTLE] trust me. Is there some sort of heartbreaking break-up story, or—?
IRENE
[GRIM] She went missing.
[SILENCE.]
ADEN
Oh my god. I’m so sorry, I didn’t—
IRENE
It’s fine. The wound is four years old. It hardly hurts to pick at it now.
ADEN
[SINCERE] Do you want to talk about it?
IRENE
[STIFLED] I mean, it’s kind of complicated? I’ll spare you the details for now. It’s just…I don’t know.
I just thought I’d be over it by now. That’s what those recordings were meant to do: help me get over it. I just keep obsessing over it, though.
[ALMOST MOURNFUL] I try to look for the good in my new life, but I realize that she’s in all the things I think are good. I can’t even date other people—and I’ve tried. It doesn’t take long for the relationships to unravel and fall apart. [SHE SCOFFS.] One girl said it was like I was cheating.
ADEN
[SYMPATHETIC] People handle loss differently, you know. It’s okay to not be over it just because time has passed.
IRENE
[DISTANT] Right.
[THEN, MORE AWARE] I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be dumping this onto you. You’re my coworker, not my therapist.
ADEN
Don’t worry about it. I’m always here if you need anything, work-related or not.
Have you tried therapy, though?
IRENE
I did, but it’s been a while. To be honest, at this point, I’m not sure if going back would—
[THERE’S A LOUD RUSTLING NEARBY.]
[EERIE MUSIC BEGINS GROWING IN THE BACKGROUND.]
ADEN
Did you hear—? [SUDDENLY PANICKED] Irene! Hey, stop!
[IRENE HAS ALREADY RISEN TO HER FEET.]
IRENE
Shh! [WHISPERS] I think that was the branches.
ADEN
[WHISPERS THROUGH CLENCHED TEETH] Irene, I think a big living mass of dirt would sound a lot louder than—
[ANOTHER LOUD RUSTLING.]
IRENE
I’m going to check it out. You stay here.
[SLOW AND CAREFUL FOOTSTEPS AS IRENE STEPS TOWARDS THE BRANCHES. THE RUSTLING CONTINUES.]
IRENE
[WARY] Hey…
Wait, is...is that—wo-oah!
[THE MUSIC CUTS OFF ABRUPTLY.]
[THERE IS A RUSTLING ACCOMPANIED BY THUMPING NOISES AS RABBITS RUN PAST IRENE, THEIR FAINT SQUEAKS AND WHIMPERS IN THE BACKGROUND. IRENE STUMBLES FOR A MOMENT BEFORE SHE IS HEARD FALLING OVER. A CRACKING NOISE IS HEARD AS HER PHONE SCREEN SHATTERS.]
[THE RABBIT NOISES FADE OFF.]
ADEN
[UNIMPRESSED] Rabbits. It was a family of rabbits hiding beneath the branches.
IRENE
[SHE GROANS IN PAIN.] Shut up.
[SHE SHIFTS TO A SITTING POSITION.]
IRENE
Oh, fuck.
ADEN
[WINCES] That screen is cracked pretty bad.
Does it still work?
IRENE
[SHE SIGHS IN RELIEF.] Yeah, and it’s still recording, too.
ADEN
Whew, that was close. You, er, have all of your recordings backed up, right?
IRENE
No?
ADEN
[DUMFOUNDED] Seriously? You’re a young adult in the 21st century! How do you not know the basics of technology? Always back up your important files to a flash drive or something!
IRENE
Of course I know that. I just never thought to back up the recordings because…well, I guess I just never thought about what would happen if I lost all of them. I usually just focus on the act of making them.
ADEN
You probably should upload them somewhere else for safe keeping, though. In case your phone’s next fall is its last.
IRENE
You’re probably right.
ADEN
[NERVOUS] Can we please leave now? I don’t think your “eldritch monster” or whatever you called it is going to show up anytime soon.
IRENE
Yeah, let’s go.
[SHE GRUNTS AS SHE PUSHES HERSELF TO HER FEET.]
IRENE
Thank you. For uh, following me out into the woods and listening to me talk about my missing ex-girlfriend.
ADEN
Anytime! [HE PAUSES.] Actually, no, I never want to follow you into the woods to go monster hunting ever again. Er, no offense. Can you turn off the recording now?
IRENE
[SHE CHUCKLES.] Sure.
[PHONE BEEP.]
[RECORDING ENDS.]
AUTOMATED VOICE
Today’s quote is:  “Real poetry, is to lead a beautiful life. To live poetry is better than to write it.”
Vengeance Chapter 12
((Thank you all so much for the likes and the reblogs and the support. Thank you to @sinfulwonders who works tirelessly with me to beta this. I also wanted to apologize for not updating. As, you all know I was busy with shipweek but I also had a family matter that was very crucial. I am grateful that you all cherish this story as I do. Without further ado, let me continue))
It was the first time Shuichi entered Aki's room since her disappearance, and there was still a heart-sinking feeling that stuck with him as he looked at the place. The faint scent of blackberry and vanilla hung in the air, and the smallest little knick-knacks hadn't been moved or fixed. Her desk was still the organized mess that it was, a planner even folded to the week that she went missing. The planner had different colored inks scrawled across the page, each color symbolizing priorities, and reminders written in quick shorthand. Her curtains draped closed, as they were when she wasn't in the room. There was a corkboard hung on the wall with pictures thumbtacked into its surface. Many of them were of D.I.C.E, of family photos, and some of just him and his cousin. There was only one picture on there of just her back to the camera, and her profile hidden with a wide brim hat. She was walking down the beach with her hands clasped behind her back. The wind must've been blowing since her hair was all over the place. It was a stylistic photo, and the only one he knew of that could wield a camera like that was Ovetere. Which meant this must've been a spontaneous trip that some of the D.I.C.E members took, or they had met up somehow and just decided to mess around with the camera.
His attention left the board to the laptop that was sitting idly on the desk. He knew that this day would come sooner or later. Digging up secrets, he couldn't think of any that Aki would keep, but Takahashi told him one already. She wanted to travel around and keep a distance between her and the Saihara name. Shuichi couldn't fault her for it. He sat down at the desk and turned on the laptop, noting with amusement that the surface covered with different kinds of stickers. Her collection was endless, and it was everywhere. On the consoles of her video games, on the corkboard, on the laptop. He knew if he dug around her bookshelf, he could find her albums of stickers. He waited for the computer to load as he looked around her room again. His furniture matched the dark aesthetic of trying to keep his place as cold and minimalist as possible. Her furnishings were light wood and reflected the light from the overhead fan and the sunlight when she opened the curtains.
He could almost hear the soft twang of her guitar playing, and he could just visualize her sitting on her bed with her guitar on her lap, curling around it as she focused on practicing a chord or a song. It was a typical scene—a standard memory. Even before Kokichi showed up in their lives, him reading in her room while she practiced was commonplace. It was hard to believe that during fits of insomnia, he wouldn't hear her play anytime soon—no random knocking on doors to check in on each other and trek up to the vending machine.
Shuichi saw that her laptop was password-protected, but he didn't need to be a hacker to know what it was. He typed it in out of memory and stared at the desktop picture. It was last year's New Year shrine visit. Their arms wrapped around each other's shoulders -Shuichi had to bend down to compromise the height difference-, and they were grinning at the camera. Shuichi's smile is a little more timid and shy, and her bright and beaming. She wore a yukata even though it was freezing and that she should've worn a jacket, and Shuichi bundled up in a scarf and earmuffs. They had taken the picture away from the crowd, but close enough that it could still be seen a little in the background, showcasing the line and the people who were trying to get a wish.
It startled him to see that this was the picture on her laptop. He didn't think that anyone kept the photo besides Keiko or Koji. He didn't remember Aki requesting the picture, but maybe he hadn't paid attention when he got dragged into the embrace. He felt his eyes burn and a lump form in the back of his throat as he tried to swallow past all of it. He needed to stay focused. Right now, traversing memories wasn't going to solve this case.
Just like that, however, his mind decided to be helpful and remind him that Takahashi said that she was planning to leave the Saihara household. Bracing himself to find nothing but apartment searches and universities for music, he got himself back upright and went onto her internet.
If anyone wanted to know anyone, whatever they searched on their history told a fair amount of their story. Composing contests, youtube channels dedicated to guitarists and musicians, discussion forums on music...a twitter. Shuichi didn't doubt that Aki networked, trying to see who would bite if she was actively trying to leave, but...there was not a thing that she recently posted on her account that said anything about wanting that. The youtube videos she watched were of people that she admired and actively supported. There was nothing to indicate that she wanted to leave.
If she was bait, chances were, Danganronpa didn't have a clue until they started researching a little more heavily into her about who she was or didn't have a clue at all since Aki was firmly silent about her name. If it wasn't bait...then, Danganronpa really went out of their way to try to find her. Shuichi just couldn’t imagine his aunt making such a massive wave with a case that it would result in something dramatic as a kidnapping. At the same time, considering that it was nothing more than a snuff game, and everyone was a contestant....he couldn't put it past them. Everything was a possibility right now, and until he heard more from his uncle or his aunt about the Jabberwock Case, nothing was set in stone.
It didn't fit with Danganronpa's MO. They went after local celebrities, and they stuck with local newspapers. Unless...Shuichi cupped his hand over his mouth as he tried to put himself into Danganronpa's shoes. If they were so slighted about the case that his aunt took, that they were willing to go out of their way to remind the police and law force what kind of power they would be granted...then it wouldn't bother them to research Aki. Take her hobby, and her talent...and taunt her with it as they did with the rest of the contestants. Only instead of being accomplished, they were belittling the fact that she wasn't, and that pissed Shuichi off.
He confirmed once again that there had indeed been a "reason" for the kidnapping. Shuichi felt confident that Danganronpa just didn't randomly take her from the street. Now to confirm the other piece of the puzzle. He opened her Discord as well as he decided to scroll as much through her history as he possibly could, she seemed to have kept it clear and clean most of the time. Getting on to her Discord, he noticed that she was only a part of two servers, D.I.C.E, and the Musician Symphony.
The Musician Symphony wasn't an active group, but he could see that there were people that occasionally touched base. Going through the backlogs, Shuichi noticed that Aki tended to lurk more than participate in this server. He roamed through the channels before figuring out that the entire reason why she was there was to see what other people were doing and supporting them. He saw some of the tweets people were posting onto the channel. Some had been re-tweeted by her as a boost. She went through the youtube videos and commented on them, but she'd never discussed how she came across them.
There was a notification on a familiar icon. Shuichi clicked on it, already having an idea of what he was about to walk into.
[ Shuffle: Shuichi-chan-san's telling me that you're missing. You're not missing, right? You're home, or you're late or something… ]
[ Shuffle: Aki...please just go home? Please? If you guys had a fight or something, I know Saihara-chan-san will be willing to hear you out...or Ouma-sama-san! ]
Those were all...on the day Aki was reported missing. Shuichi closed his eyes and let out a soft breath.
A couple of days later, Shuffle tried again to reach out.
[ Shuffle: I know that this isn't going to reach you, we don't know where you are, but I feel like I have to say something anyway. ]
[ Shuffle: I'm really, really scared Aki. ]
[ Shuffle: I'm scared we're going to find you dead. I'm afraid that we're going to find you traumatized. I'm worried that you're...not going to be the Aki that we all know and love. ]
[ Shuffle: I feel so dumb. ]
[ Shuffle: I should've done something. ]
[ Shuffle: Called you, met you closer than the intersection. ]
[ Shuffle: I'm such a terrible friend. Asuka says that I'm not. Tohru says I'm not. Everyone's saying to me that I'm not. ]
[ Shuffle: But I can't even help our leader like you can, Aki. I don't think Saihara-chan-san can help either. ]
[ Shuffle: he just sits at his laptop, all scared. ]
[ Shuffle: Maybe I should just ask for a pancake night. ]
[ Shuffle: There's no point in talking to a ghost that's not gonna reply. ]
Discord didn't shed any new light. Not that Shuichi was expecting it. He clicked off the website and rubbed his eyes, trying to think. Danganronpa knew that something was up. They knew that they were being investigated or that someone was poking around. Getting called up by Jabberwock over the technology only made them paranoid. It was the only theory that Shuichi had that didn't feel like he was stretching to reach a conclusion.
Maybe they thought someone was getting suspicious over the newspaper clippings and decided to target using other methods? If that was the case, then who got close enough to make Dangnaronpa sweat? Shuichi curled a finger against his chin. He doubted his uncle was the one that pressed them against the wall. At the same time, the theory that Ando had about Aki being bait was...still useful even if Shuichi hesitated to believe it.
Just what was happening on Jabberwock? What was the technology that was apparently stolen or lost? Why would Danganronpa admit to having it? Why would they even use their name?
What was their cover story? Shuichi sat straighter. A gut feeling stirred into his stomach, and he decided to just see if he was right. Instead of going into her history tab, which he knew would have nothing, he scrolled through her bookmarks. They were neatly categorized and organized from music to school work, and the abundance of files told him enough that everything had a place. There was one folder that was hidden in the music section; however, that caught his attention.
Travel Plans
Clicking on it, Shuichi saw a list of hotels and maps that were in her bookmarks. They were hot spots in each prefecture. Touristy areas as well as places that were off the beaten path. Shuichi picked one from the list, and saw that there was a museum that was dedicated to the Tragedy. It had been one of the several areas that had been annihilated. It wasn’t too much of a stretch to assume that Aki was looking at history. Her interests were vast: psychology, history...the Tragedy was just both lined into one common event. There was a stigma that surrounded people who studied it and there was shame around those who talked about it. There was an underlying fear that it could happen again, or would happen again. No one wanted to teach the subject besides a quick overview, just in case.
It was probably the same shame that kept Jabberwock Island from being talked about too. Shuichi pursed his lips together as he decided to click on Jabberwock Island’s website.
The screen turned black, and for one horrifying moment, he thought he was going to see the emblem of Danganronpa spin around in a loading mode. Instead, what appeared to him looked to be like a flower with five sharp petals that were in a circle. As the page loaded, a flower petal colored itself a bright magenta. The page finally came into view, and Shuichi could not believe what he was seeing.
Welcome to Jabberwock Island.
The header had a large white font, and the picture was of the island's map of six islands. The tiny main island that was in the middle of it, and the five larger sections that made up the home. It was an island that was a few months away on a ship, and a decent six-hour flight from Japan.
He quickly found the "history" tab, and he stared in surprise as he read the blurb.
"An island that once used to be an amusement park was abandoned during the Tragedy in 20xx. The Future Foundation had renovated the amusement park into a military base in 20XX and had used it to help rehabilitate the Despair 15, otherwise known as the Remnants of Despair. The Despair 15 have decided to stay on Jabberwock Island after the Tradgey's conclusion in 20xx and self-exiled themselves from Japan. What used to have a horrible history is now flourishing with tourism and immigration.
Hinata Hajime is the island's current Leader alongside Nevermind Sonia, who has strong political ties to the Novoselic Kingdom in Europe."
Shuichi doubted that a website mostly created to try to get traffic into their island would talk about the technology that they once housed or the people that were on the island. The Tragedy. Despair 15.
Despair 15….
Did...Danganronpa has some sort of history with the Tragedy or with the Remnants of Despair? Shuichi never heard of someone mentioning the Despair 15 before, or of them being called the Remnants of Despair. Shuichi leaned back against the chair, the gears in his mind whirling. Remnants of Despair and Danganronpa. The missing technology. Something prodded in Shuichi’s mind to dig deeper at this.
First thing first: there was one person that he could talk to during the game that would probably offer him some insight about the event. Maybe there was something that was glossed over in class that would bring all of this together.
The second thing that he had to worry about was that Aki was going around to explore where the Tragedy hit the hardest.  Her knowledge that she knew about the Island and in turn knew where the Remnants of Despair were located. Not only that, but it was odd to Shuichi that Dangaronpa and Jabberwock had a connection involving the Kamukura technology.
It pained Shuichi to think about it. How much didn't he see because he thought everything was okay? He thought about her statement in the first episode or two. When she proclaimed that she felt lighter. I keep thinking about the cars. I keep seeing them. He didn’t ask where, did he? His stomach turned iced and he felt the world darken at the corners of his eyes. He assumed she was talking about the school, and Aki, who probably didn’t want him to worry any more than he already was, went with it.
He clicked out Aki's computer and shut it down. He went back to his room and booted up his own computer. The darkness of his room helped with the small headache that was starting to pound behind his left eye. He hated stress headaches, and he didn't want to get off track to get medicine when he was so close to the finish line. At least, a finish line of one mystery.
Usually, the episode started at the dining hall when everyone was gathered, but to Shuichi's surprise, the episode started in a room that gave off an unsettling vibe. There was a large monitor that hung from the dorm's ceiling with prominent speakers, which amplified the volume. There weren't any windows in the dorm, and even if there were, the windows would be slated and bolted down so that there was no thought, no hope for escape. The bed was pushed up against the wall. There was also a desk that had a fair amount of papers on it. It's a dorm room, it was neat, and Rantaro was sitting on the edge, running his hand through his hair deep in contemplation.
There was a soft ring of a doorbell, and Rantaro picked his head up. There were superficial circles under his eyes that spoke of a hard night's rest, and he looked disgruntled. He rubbed his eyes and stood up, walking over to the door and opening it. "Kokai-kun?"
"Sorry, da bodder, you." The Ultimate Falconer gave a smile, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. He, too, looked as tired as Rantaro looked. "I jus' wanna check in on you."
"I think there's a lot of other people that you should be worried about, I'm fine," Rantaro assured gently. "How are they?"
"Dunno. Came da loo' a' you." Kokai gestured, "You are na fine, an' dat's o' ay." His drawl was a little worse than Shuichi remembered. He wondered if it was from the exhaustion, or if Kokai wasn't trying too hard to speak correctly. He still didn't know where to place that accent...if that even was one. "I was gonna fin' Mayumi-chan an' Shirogane-san."
"Shirogane-san is probably heartbroken," Rantaro murmured. "...Why don't we go looking for them together? How about we start with Shirogane since she's the one that was probably hurt the most? Maybe we can work our way around the school as well."
"Dat' sounds good." Kokai nodded firmly and stepped out so that Rantaro could leave the room. "Where da begin?" He frowned. "I' dough of maybe her lab, bu' I'm na sure where id is."
"It should be in our monopads." Rantaro took the said monopad out and started tapping on the screen.
"I ha' nology," Kokai grumbled. "Pre' y sure id ha'es me do."
Rantaro blinked, and he looked at Kokai curiously. "You... don't look at the monopads?"
"I can' ge' id da work!" Koka gave his monopad to Rantaro. He merely flicked the screen, and it turned on. The look of incredulity was astonishing, and Shuichi couldn't help but laugh, just as Rantaro chuckled. "I have done dat a dousands dimes! How?!"
"Maybe it's because I'm nice to it?" Rantaro offered as he handed it back to the flabbergasted student. "If you talk to it nicely and you touch it kindly rather than poking and prodding at it, it may be nice to you, and you can actually see where everyone is."
"Id shows you where people are?" Kokai blinked.
Rantaro quickly went through his and proceeded to show him a map. Shuichi frowned deeply, cupping his hand around his mouth. It was a little...eerie that students could keep track of each other. A good thing for a victim to have an understanding and a warning ahead of time. He had to doubt if anyone would use the monopads like that. Maybe some did.
While they were busy talking about the monopads, Shuichi turned his attention to the chat room and decided to see if Shinigami was on.
[ Seeker: Everyone's so quiet today. ]
[ Shinigami: Good evening, Seeker-san. It has been quiet. I have not seen Loki-kun around, which is to my pleasure. How are you? ]
[ Seeker: Struggling with History homework. ] It was probably a good thing that Kokichi wasn't in that chat room. Shuichi knew that was a terrible lie, but he hoped that it was hard to tell through the internet.
[ Shinigami: Perhaps I can be of assistance? I am a scholar of sorts for cultural history. I may not be able to tell you a whole lot of whatever you are trying to accomplish, but I may be able to clarify a few facts. ]
[ Seeker: We’re learning a bit about the Tragedy. I don't really know what to look for online. Any advice? ] Shuichi had to cringe at how bad that lie sounded. He wasn’t getting any better at this.
[ Shinigami: The Tragedy is a complex subject, but...let me see if I can't put it into more... more detailed terms. No one is certain of how the Tragedy began. Some say it started with Hope’s Peak Academy, and the unethical human experimentation that they were doing. Some say that there was a group that made something called Despair Disease and decided to spread it around. My belief, as well as other scholars, is the fact that it was a combination of all these things at once. There were experiments done, just not by the Academy. The Despair Sisters had a hand in it as well.]
[ Shinigami: Allow me to further the conversation about the disease. It would twist the personality into something that was the opposite of them or enhance a part of the depending, and they would act on it. Some were liars, some would follow orders to the death, and some were….some were actively trying to become the same as the Remnants of Despair. Unfortunately for them, the longest they could survive the fever and the dehydration, along with the hallucination, was about three days. ]
[ Shinigami: It was rumored to have happened anyway. Some survivors claim that they saw the disease with their own eyes. ]
[ Shinigami: You have to understand the Remnants of Despair and the people that befell the chaos were….people that would actively torture and kill victims. Torture that included but certainly did not stop at unethical practices of doctoring and experimentation. ]
[ Shinigami: The Tragedy came to a conclusion after the Despair Sisters met their demise during the Hope's Peak revival. ]
[ Shinigami: It took five years after that to rebuild, and another ten to fully recover. ]
[ Seeker: I see. Why is it hard for people to study the event without being cast in a terrible light? ]
[ Shinigami: Humans are afraid of things that they can’t control or predict. The Tragedy was one such instance and there’s a fear that someone will think it’d be a good idea to bring it back. Scholars like myself are even warned to tread carefully around the Tragedy, as there was once a superstition that even mentioning it, let alone studying it, would cause the Despair Disease to flare up again. Ludicrous yes, but...people want to pretend that it’s not as scary as it is. ]
Shuichi let out a long breath as he let the information sink into his mind.
[ Seeker: Does Danganronpa have anything to do with the Tragedy? ]
[ Shinigami: No. But they were inspired by an aspect of it. ]
Shuichi thought for a moment that Shinigami would go off again and give him the information, but for some reason, that wasn't happening. Shuichi had a feeling that even if he pressed, Shinigami wouldn't say. It must be something to do with his contract about watching the killing games and writing that paper of his.
There was something about those games then that they were mimicking or were trying to do. Despair 15...
Would it really be off of the mark to think that Danganronpa was attempting to see if falling into despair would be as easy as the Tragedy made it appear? Would it really be off of the mark to think that someone thought that the Remnants of Despair weren't all on Jabberwock Island?
Hope's Peak Academy...Shuichi grabbed his notebook and quietly wrote down the name. He was going to have to do more digging. Here he had hoped that the mystery would be done and over with, but Danganronpa was good at keeping the questions coming.
They were good at keeping an audience captivated at the screen.
It appeared that Shirogane was indeed in her lab, the boys took a daring look at each other, probably preparing themselves for hysteria, or tears, or other things. Shuichi wondered if he was going to cringe at how they would try to comfort her or be moved that they actually attempted. Rantaro was the one that decided to be brave and knock on the door.
It took a few tries, but Shirogane appeared, looking distraught and heartbroken as Rantaro predicted. Her cheeks were covered in tear stains, her nose was running and red. Her eyes are blotchy and swollen. She did her best to look presentable, but even the Ultimate Cosplayer couldn't hide her misery. "I'm sorry you have to see me like this. I know I'm being so boring right now and-"
"Enough of that." Rantaro frowned as both of the boys moved to be in her lab. The area reminded Shuichi of the backstage or a green room of a show. She had racks of different types of costumes, some of which the backlog chat were animatedly discussing who their favorite anime characters were, and whether or not she'd reference them later in the long run. "Hey...can I hug you, Shirogane-san?"
"I'm all crying and snotty!" Shirogane cried out, her cheeks stained red. "You couldn't-"
"I offered." Rantaro gently coaxed, "Come here." Shirogane didn't seem to be able to hold her ground as she walked towards him as though hypnotized. Kokai watched from the sidelines as they hugged, and Shirogane sniffed. "It's okay," Rantaro whispered, gently stroking her hair. "It's okay. I'm so sorry, Shirogane-san. Yesterday was horrible. For all of us."
"I just wish Chatani-senpai said something." Shirogane whimpered. "I could've done something. I could've told her not to do it. I could've told her to wait. I could've…"
"Done nading." Kokai gently broke the conversation. "She made ‘er choice an' she knew dat id hur' people. Chatani-san an' Yadori-san did deir bes'. Dey wan'ed da escape. Id was a price dey paid."
Rantaro gave him a sharp glare, gripping a little tighter around Shirogane's shoulders and quickly shook his head, as though to warn him about going further.
"No, I know." Shirogane gently pulled away from Rantaro, wiping her eyes and trying to gather herself. "It's just like Death Note when L died, you know? You had all of this hope that they'd wind up friends only for it to be backstabbed and proven wrong." Rantaro and Kokai gave her blank looks, and she giggled nervously. "I'm sorry I don't know how to put it any other way. I'll be okay now. Just gotta keep my chin up. Like Naruto. Believe it!"
"I mean...if that's what makes you feel better." Rantaro rubbed the back of his neck. "It's okay to feel sad though Shirogane-san. We're here to support you no matter what."
"Thank you. You two are excellent friends to me. I'm so happy that a boring and dull girl like me has someone like you two." Shirogane beamed brightly.
"I'm surprised that Mayumi-chan hasn't come by to see you." Rantaro frowned deeply. "I wonder if she's okay."
Tsumugi waved it off. "I told her to go away." She looked down at the ground, distraught and upset. "I said some things...I was really, really angry. I'm a lot calmer now than I had been. I'm sure she's upset with me."
"I dob dat," Kokai assured softly, "Songbird isn' da type da hold a grudge. She understands. Promise."
Shuichi wanted to nod empathetically. While she could be found curled up against someone's door if they were having a hard time, she knew when she wasn't wanted and did leave people alone. Sometimes she knew when someone was just saying it, just to say it rather than mean it. He could remember the times she sat next to him, arms draped around his shoulder as he went through an anxiety attack, trying to shield him. Trying to comfort him. She never wasted her words, she was more than happy to stay silent and just be there.
Tsumugi nodded as well, seemingly getting a hold of herself. "I'll have to make it up to her. Oh, ask her what kind of cosplay she'd do." She looked at the boys. "Please?"
"Sure." Kokai agreed, and Rantaro also nodded his agreement. "Bu' are ya goin' da be okay?"
"I'll be fine...I just...need today is all…" Tsumugi looked at the ground for a moment. "Have you checked in on Yuya-san?"
"No." Rantaro folded his arms. "You think she might need someone to talk to?"
"She loved Yadori-san, so I imagine she'd be just as heartsick as I am over Chatani-chan." Tsumugi shrugged helplessly. "I don't know if anyone's willing to reach out to her since she's a little out there."
[ Loki: Awwww, is this going to be another boring episode? So lame!!!!! ]
[ Shinigami: Ah, that's right, you missed the brutal execution and murder episode, didn't you? ]
[ Loki: Oh no, I saw that with my boyfriend <3. We were ecstatic that the two more boring ones died first. Looks like it wasn't the chemist, after all, Shiny! ]
[ Shinigami: Much to my displeasure, but I still hold the belief firm that she'll be a culprit sooner or later. ]
[ Loki: Are you still thinking that the cosplay chick and guacamole are going to be the survivors? ]
[ Shinigami: You know, my bet on Shirogane-san is wavering just slightly as Mayumi-san has proven herself to be survivor material. At the same time, I have a different theory about her. ]
[ Loki: Are you going to tell? ]
[ Loki: Hey! ]
[ Loki: Hey! ]
[ Loki: Hey! ]
 [ Shinigami: it really is a shame that we're merely separated by a screen. I would love to tear your vocal cords out. That being said, yes. I do have a theory. Yes, I will share it. My first theory is that Mayumi-chan is a Mastermind. ]
Aki? A Mastermind? That was too far off the grid. What good was a mastermind that couldn't remember that they were a mastermind? That just...does not make any amount of sense. It would be a cheap shot as well to try to get her murdered.
[ Seeker: I highly doubt that. ]
[ Shinigami: Granted, that does seem a bit off. My other theory is that she is going to be playing this season's Traitor. ]
Shuichi wondered how much of this was a hidden message, and how much of this was Danganronpa's actual plan. He was going to have to get his uncle to ask about those case files sooner rather than later. He was going to have to see for himself just what kind of an impact this case had made, and why they'd get so angry only to find Aki.
It made him worried about why they didn't bother to go after him…
Unless…
If that was indeed the case, then this was beyond fucked up. Shuichi decided to stomp that theory down until he had more concrete evidence to say that was the case. For now, he needed to focus on what he actually had and what he even knew.
"Danks. Can dat ding find her?" Kokai asked as both of the boys decided to exit the room. "Yuya-chan may na wanna 'alk da us."
"No, but we should try and let her know that she and Shirogane are in the same boat so that they have a support system." Rantaro frowned. "Then we can see how everyone else is doing. We may come across Mayumi-chan that way too."
"...Why do ya care?" Kokai frowned suddenly.
Rantaro froze, and for a moment, Shuichi thought he wasn't going to try to reply. "Do you have any siblings, Kokai-kun?"
"Yes." Kokai nodded. "I have a sis."
"Older or younger?"
"Does id madder?" Kokai frowned a little but thought for a moment. "I'm de old one."
"So maybe you'll get it kind of," Rantaro muttered softly to himself. "Let's just say... I'm an older brother too."
"....Wow." Kokai paused. "You're a bedder, big bro 'han me."
"Why do you say that?"
"If dat was my sis cryin' in dere." He gestured towards the lab behind him. "I'd dell ‘er da suck id up loser."
Shuichi covered his face with his hands and groaned loudly. Rantaro let out a startled laugh, as though he hadn't been expecting that.
[ Loki: Wooow. That's cruel. Then again, I'd do the same thing easy peasy. ]
Instead of bantering, Shinigami went oddly silent. Shuichi wondered if this was an intricate subject for the person on the other end of the computer. Not everyone had a good or decent relationship with their sibling.
Shuichi thought back at his relationship with his cousin. He couldn't keep track of how often his cousin went after him and made sure that he was okay. How often she talked him down from an anxiety attack after an anxiety attack, how often she saw him cry. He couldn't remember the last time he saw Aki burst into tears. They fought...but Shuichi couldn't even call those fights. Everyone around them, Kokichi included, tended to say that they acted as though they were on a debate team.
Shuichi remembered when Aki made him cry. He couldn't remember the fight, but he remembered her words: at least my parents didn't abandon me like a puppy at someone's front door. Shuichi held a grudge against her for a while for it; he wondered if he got her back. She always seemed to have such a firm grip on herself...it made Shuichi worry. He couldn't remember the last time he saw her cry.
He turned his attention back to the episode. Rantaro and Kokai were at a tiny little shack that was pretty far away from any of the school buildings. The shack looked as though it were about to crumble. It was barely being held up by anything but nails and some wires. Gonoji was standing on a ladder outside. His pliers were in his hands, and Yuya was standing outside, hands on her hips as she watched.
"What are you two doing?" Rantaro asked.
"Oh, hey, guys! What's crackalackin?!" Yuya grinned, turning to face them. She looked as though she just had gotten a little fried from something. Her clothes were smoking slightly as well as the ends of her hair. "I was trying to fix up my lab, but the wires were all messed up, so I asked Gonoji-kun if he could take a gander at it! Voila!"
"Da need help?" Kokai called up.
"No man, I got it." Gonoji grinned as he jumped down from his position on the ladder and looked at Yuya. "I think we might want to ask Monokuma to give you a better lab. This isn't exactly safe."
"But, it's gonna burn down anyway." Yuya pouted. "What good is a good building if I can't burn it down? The outdoors is my lab anyway, not that tiny little thing."
"Okay, okay!" He laughed, holding his hands out. "I get it. Well, I'll get out of your hair then. You got company, and I don't want to be in the way."
"Actually, I was going to come to find you anyway," Rantaro gave them both a kind smile. "I was just...seeing how you two were doing. Since...yesterday."
"I'm a firm believer that when things go bad, they go bad," Gonoji said simply. "Work keeps the demons away. I'm grateful that I was able to provide it too. I may just be in my lab trying to do something or another." He looked at Yuya. "Unless you think that Shimhara might want me to make the lights brighter on his stage or something."
"God, I don't know with that dick." Yuya frowned. "You can try, but he might just tell you off for thinking that his place is less than perfect."
"Or call ya da help." Kokai's shoulders slumped slightly.
"Now, now, it was a bad day." Rantaro gently chided. "Let's give him a chance to redeem himself."
"Oh, there's no redeeming people like him, Ran-Ran, but you sure as hell can try." Yuya scoffed. "Good luck, Gogai-kun I don't want to be you."
Gonoji laughed but walked off without another word. Rantaro and Kokai watched him leave before turning back to the arsonist, who was looking at her shack with a big smile plastered on her face. Yuya looked exactly like Kokichi would when a big idea hit, and decided to cause problems on purpose. Shuichi wouldn't doubt that her knowledge of fire and explosives would also go into firecrackers and gunpowder.
"You sure you're okay? Shirogane-san…"
"Yadori-san lied to me." Yuya broke Rantaro off. "I know you mean well, but... I'm not really grieving here; I'm fucking furious. I'm gonna lit a bitch and watch it burn. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do that, which gets the message across. You dig me?"
"You're scary." Kokai let out a short breath. "I dun wanna be on your bad side."
"Aw. You're lovely, Kokai-kun." Yuya beamed, "I don't want to be on yours either. So let's make a promise to not make promises, yeah? They're just gonna get broken in the end. If you excuse me, lads, I have a date with a fire extinguisher. Later, crocodiles."
".... That's not exactly how that phrase goes." Rantaro watched her slam the door of the little shack, and it rattled violently enough that it threatened to fall.
"'Elling her dat will be a mis'ake." Kokai winced, sweating beading down the side of his face. Shuichi didn't doubt that at all. Yuya was stubborn for the sake of it. Talking to her when she was angry wasn't going to get anywhere. She might want to speak when she calmed down some, but...Shuichi couldn't blame her if she decided to hold a grudge. He didn't like people lying either. Kokichi was terrible at it, he drove Shuichi up the wall, but there were differences in the lies that he told and the ones that Yadori had said.
There was a difference in someone murdering to protect someone, and killing because they thought it was the right thing to do. Shuichi tugged on his hat, despite that there was no way they would be able to see him.
The episode ended without any mention of the flashback light, but Shuichi didn't doubt that was going to be the next thing to be touched upon in the next few episodes. That is if no one decided to go after each other without needing much more than a reason. It was disturbing how easy it had been for the first murder to take place. Just a seed of doubt and that was that it took for two people to wind up dead.
That flashback light may not have to even try hard at all to get the rest of the group paranoid enough to kill each other. Shuichi quietly logged off of Danganronpa, his mind whirling over the information that he had received, and the knowledge that he was slowly obtaining.
It wasn't going to be a comfortable night tonight.
                                                         X
[ Stolen Heart: I don't think Aki-chan would be a traitor, do you? ]
Shuichi glanced at the corner of his phone to see that it was nearing three in the morning. Currently, he was trying to figure out a way to sleep, but his mind kept mulling over the information that he had gathered from the game and from Aki's laptop. He couldn't help but feel the same disconnect that most families felt when they were confronted with evidence that the person that they loved wasn't who they thought.
At the same time, Shuichi didn't really ask her about any of it. If he had...would he still be surprised? Maybe. He doubted Jabberwock would've come up in conversation. Regardless, he decided to respond to Kokichi despite how late it was at night. He needed the distraction, and perhaps so did his lover.
[ Me: It's more of a possibility than a mastermind. ]
Shuichi closed his eyes as he rested the phone against his chest, feeling the exhaustion creep upon him. Just how badly did Keiko fuck Danganronpa over?
That night he had the weirdest dream of a train going by, Aki was dangerously close to the edge of the stop. Her hair violently whipping across the wind. He remembered reaching out. He didn't remember the conversation, but he remembered her turning her head towards him, and a simple sentence crashed him awake.
Don't you choke now.
Hi! I'm new to the studyblr community and I'm already so in love with it. Any advice on how to get followers?
first of all, I’ve only been studyblr-ing 5 months, and when I started my goal wasn’t to gain followers, it was to improve academically, so these are more general studyblr tips than how to gain followers, exactly.
How To Studyblr
prioritize creating content and self-improvement over gaining followers. if you’re in it for the followers and not the studying, you’ll come across as disingenuous and ppl will be less inclined to want to interact with you.
have a bomb-ass desktop theme. a good places to find free themes are @theme-hunter, or go to popular blogs are find what themes they’re using. You want your desktop theme to be accessible so that people can easily view your text and photo posts.
make a studyblr intro post. tag all the studyblrs you follow in it. list your age, country, general field of study, and a name for ppl to call you. also list your interests, why you decided to create a studyblr, and what you’re planning on posting.
tag the shit out of your posts. but remember that the first 5 tags are the most important. some good tags that I use very often are #studyblr gets real #small studyblrs unite. for the rest, I type in “stud” and go with every variation that comes up.
have three personal tags, minimum: one for your original content (most people use #mine) one for your queue (i use #q) and for any asks you might get. Additional personal tags you might find useful are: #reference (tag reblogs you want to reference later on with this) and a tag for personal posts (i use #foy speaks) this is for when, for example, I make a post like “thank god human skin is waterproof” which isn’t really studyblr-related, but is just something I wanted to share with my followers.
take pictures of your notes even when they’re ugly. there’s a reason #studyblr gets real is one of the most popular studyblr tags. aesthetics are great but relatability is a close second to it.
reach out to other studyblrs. make friends and become mutuals with people. DM them about similar interests, fandoms, locations etc.
follow the tag #studyblr intro. when new people join the community, reblog their post and welcome to the community and follow them.
follow the unwritten laws of tumblr courtesy. these are many, but some of them include;
if you like original content, reblog as well as like, don’t just like
if you reblog an ask game from someone, send them an ask from the list
if one of your mutuals reblogs an ask game, send them an ask.
have your studyblr as your main. since it’ll probably be the blog you’ll use the most. probably,. it might not.
keep it real. my earliest posts where I tried way too hard to be aesthetic are.... kinda cringey, and I don’t even believe in cringe culture so when I say that....
take cute notes EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T POST.
consider bullet journaling.
you can even post pictures of your calligraphy practice.
you don’t need fancy stationery to studyblr.
go out to study. If you want, go to a cafe. Broke? Try a library, or a park if the weather’s nice near you. Go on study dates. You can study with the person or just coexist as you study. it’s up to you.
have fun! don’t treat it as a job, treat it as something fun. At one point I got tired of my studyblr, so although I kept making aesthetic notes and studying, I stopped reblogging, posting, and even logging in altogether. once I felt like it again, I resumed posting!
+bonus tip
don’t feel like you have to reblog anything you don’t want on your blog, especially if the post tries to manipulate you into feeling like you HAVE  to reblog it. I don’t care how vital the information or how valid the point, I never reblog anything I don’t feel belongs on my studyblr.
And when posts like “reblog if you’re not homophobic” appear on my dash? I just scroll past. I don’t even leave likes on those posts. Sometimes a post will make a genuinely striking point about a topic, and I’ll reblog it even if it isn’t study-related. But if there’s even a hint of “you have to reblog this?” I nope out of there real quick. I’ve even unfollowed people for that kind of stuff.
i hope this helps!
Main ten as Polish students
So before I start let my clarify
1. They are all in grade 3 here so they are over 18. So they can drink smoke vape go to the gym drive etc. Just to make that clear. No laws are being broken here.
2. They are inspired by real things that happened at my school, with some details changed.
3. There are many typos can you see how long this is?
Tadashi - (maths geography english) - Student Council President. Tries to rule the school, but no one can control this chaos. Won like 8 competitions this year. Owns a blue cinquecento and at least twice a month someone comes to his class to announce that a blue cinquecento is parked on the headteacher's parking lot. There is no headtecher's parking lot.
Ellie - (maths physics) - the nerdy kid, once helped her teacher repair the blinds. Got a 5 for that. Will mess with photos hanging in the hallway if bored. Creates memes with teachers. Skips P.E. not because she hates sports, but because she has standards. Once wore pokemon onesie to school. No one really cared.
Axel (polish history english) - sings at every school celebration. Has snapchat days streak of over 700 with ten people. Doesn't have to write history test because he's sung at a patriotic concert. Religion teachers hate him cause he skips their class and sings at the students council christmas concert.
Neha - (maths geography english) - stressed, always sits at the back of the class so she can sleep, responsible for the school's shop and organising prom because student council is too busy with making christmas concert to piss the religion teachers who made one about values and those awful smartphones. Sells 300zl winter hats and is surprised people find them expensive.
Raquel - (history polish social ed.) - How many percent did I get on my mocks? Well how old am I? (You pass at 30). Is at school's volleyball team and basketball team. Almost every weekend she's partying. With alcohol. Lots of alcohol. Yet somehow she never gets drunk
Tyler - (biology chemistry english)- memester. Owns deck of cards against humanity, added some custom ones about his schoolmates. Takes no effort in classes whatsoever. Still is one of the best students. The one to add nightcored russian hard bass and nightcored religious songs to party playlist. Dabs to piss his friends.
Karolina - (maths geography english) - always straightens her hair. Always. Actually uses the doedorant she carries in her bag after P.E., even though no one actually got sweaty. Probably vapes at the parties because everyone is doing it  anyway. Somehow everyone knows her. Drinks eight coffies a day.
Alistair - (maths physics) - Goes to the gym every day. P.E. teacher loves him (that means he doesn't make fun of him). Has instagram just for his dog. His facebook profile picture is also his dog. Polish teacher always asks him to read teksts. If she suggests someone else his driends demand it's him. No one knows why.
Tegan - (maths physics it) - Drinks energy drinks all the time. Everytime computer crashes teacher asks him for help. He unplugs some cables and teh plugs them again and it works. Once during the IT vlads he created 64 folders on everyone's desktop for lols. Once bought 5 raspberry teas from the vending machine.
Claire -(biology chemistry maths) - stressed because she has 5 biologies and 5 chemistrys during the week. Takes part in Biology Competition. Makes research work about very rare and insignificant plant. The one to answer people's questions at the class groupchat. Shares her very aesthetic notes. Owns 2 rabbits.
Does mightytext work on iphone
#Does mightytext work on iphone how to
#Does mightytext work on iphone software
#Does mightytext work on iphone download
#Does mightytext work on iphone how to
Worked pretty flawlessly overall - just wasn't clear at first how to get the sms/file/image share bit going but once that is sorted it's perfect. Once contacts are synced it is easy to manage/reply by rt clicking tray - selecting device and then selecting action. Right click on the icon in the tray and you can select the device and then trigger the sync of the contacts. Then tried looking in the taskbar tray and found it. Couldn't figure out how to send the sms and do some of the things I wanted to do through the win10 client. Once they saw each other I tended to the permissions on the phone for the phone client. The phone client found the laptop client after it was installed on the phone as the 2nd device. See MoreĭeterminedDogoda's Experience Got it from google play for phone and from microsoft store for win10 laptop. The once or twice a week features are just as succulent I assure you. *Fantastic desktop locking anytime I walk away from the computer with my phone, to the point Microsoft should be on suicide watch for being so poor where KDE Connect is so polished. *Truly solid remote input from device to device, one's keyboard and mouse/touchpad are just as easily used on the other. If I'm playing music on the computer, there will be a notification on the phone with play/pause/skip and volume, and if I'm playing something from the phone it comes through the computer speakers, complete with muting of either source when calls come in. *Quick and painless mirroring of notifications and SMS from phone to desktop, including SMS replies *Shared media playback and control. Let's take a quick inventory of things it does for me daily.
#Does mightytext work on iphone software
Mello's Experience You won't believe how good Connect is until you use it yourself, and even then you'll dwell from time to time on how it came to pass that the best piece of software that KDE produced in a quarter century ended up being a mobile phone connectivity app. Let me know what your guys's favorite products are! I would love to check them out.Peter J. However, there are too many steps to send a photo to your computer compared to MightyText having zero steps. There are alternatives that are in your phone right now, such as Facebook Messenger or emailing the photo to yourself. These products can co-exist because MightyText's feature of syncing photos when I get home is crucial when I take photos that need to be Photoshopped. It works perfectly fine, however, MightyText's product as a whole fills up my needs more than I expected. Recently, Google updated A ndroid Messages to be able to text on their web based platform. Apple users take this feature granted because they do not need any third party apps to text from their computer. The other products at the time always had paid models, had ads, or was a mess. After realizing it, I frequently text less than 150 messages a month so it fitted in my lifestyle. Also, I could not find another alternative so I decided to live with it. At first, I disliked it but it's understandable because they had a great product at the time and they needed to generate some revenue. Eventually, they turned into a subscription based model and included limitations such as 150 text messages you can send in a month. In the very beginning, MightyText didn't have any limitations. Their browser interface is extremely reliable and aesthetically pleasing too.
#Does mightytext work on iphone download
Mightytext is really easy to use, as you can text from any browser, and all you need to do is download an APP and never touch it again. edit my photos quicker when I take photos on my phone.be more focused because I'm not on my phone most of the time.Ever since then, I have used this product even after I graduated. I remember my friend mentioning this product to me in class because his excuse was that it'll help him stay focus since he's not grabbing his phone every other five minutes. Android users have to find an app on the Google Play Store to have this feature. You might be thinking, "Wait, I can do that already," however, that's only possible with imessage from Apple and their iOS software. This product enables users to send and receive text messages(SMS) through your computer, without texting it yourself on your phone. MightyText is a web based platform that can send mobile texts on your phone.
To ensure maximum productivity you need to take care of your health and drinking enough water tops the list.
I have read somewhere that by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated! So won’t it be wise to manage your drinking schedule from the start?
Instead of just getting a normal water bottle get timestamps so that you can keep track of your hydration schedule.
If you have been taking an alternative approach and maintaining a bullet journal for water consumption then that is a different case. But if you aren’t practicing even that then I think a water bottle with timestamps is absolutely a must-have.
Taskade is The Only App You Need for Work-Life Productivity
Forget email drafts, notes apps and to-do list managers: Taskade does all that and more
Everything I need to keep my life running is stored online. Somewhere. I just can’t find it.
I’m talking about all the account numbers, meeting notes, to-do lists, contact information and column drafts I need to see every day. Plus the recipes I want to cook, wines I need to try, and YouTube videos I ought to watch. Some of that stuff lives in my email inbox, and some in Google Docs. Then there are my Pinterest boards, miscellaneous bookmarks and the Evernote account I can never organize coherently.
In theory, the internet makes it easier than ever to keep everything I need a few taps away. In reality, the internet has a way of fragmenting our lives. It’s like I wrote everything in a notebook and then got drunk, ripped out each page and hid them in different places around my house.
Taskade makes a great tool for simple to-do lists, and you can use photos, emojis and stock art to spruce them up.
Photo: David Pierce/The Wall Street Journal
Over the past few weeks, an app called Taskade has helped me turn chaos into order. Taskade combines many of the best features of Google Docs, Excel and Dropbox, along with lots of task-management and organizational tools. Taskade Labs Chief Executive Ivan Zhao describes the product as “the next generation of Microsoft Office,” which is a little hyperbolic and a lot ambitious. But it is the best life-organization tool I’ve tried.
Taskade combines the features of a note-taking app, a task-management app and a spreadsheet tool the way that Steve Jobs combined an iPod, a cellphone and a web browser into the iPhone: All these tools work together to create something more than its parts.
I should mention that Taskade is fairly expensive: It has a limited free tier and costs $8 a month for heavy use. Still, it might pay for itself in the apps it replaces, and I’ve found it easily worth the cost.
 I now have a page with all my airline and hotel loyalty numbers in a bulleted list, above a photo of my dental insurance card and an embedded map with directions to my dentist’s office. I made databases with all the movies, books, TV shows, and YouTube videos I need to get to—each cell opens to a rich document with my notes and thoughts. Taskade has all the interviews, research material and outlines for my columns. I’m getting married soon and am staring down my nuptial to-do list every day.
One of Taskade’s newest features is a database tool, which you can view as a table, a calendar and more.
Photo: David Pierce/The Wall Street Journal
I used to need five separate apps to keep all this stuff straight. Now it’s all in Taskade, a few clicks or a simple search away.
Block by Block
 It might be easier to think of Taskade is a super-simple website builder than a productivity app.
When you open a new page in the app, you’re really creating a blank grid onto which you can place and arrange just about anything. The app’s basic element is the block, which could be a paragraph of text, a bulleted list, a table, an image, a code snippet, a YouTube video, a PDF and more. You insert blocks with a tap or keyboard shortcut and then reorder and organize these to your heart’s content. You can easily change the nature of a block, too. For instance, you can select a bunch of text and turn it into a to-do list.
Taskade’s basic element is the block, which takes many forms: text, links, images, bookmarks and more.
Photo: David Pierce/The Wall Street Journal
Taskade is like chess: easy to learn, hard to master. The app itself looks fairly familiar, with a sidebar on the left and your open page on the right. It has a few aesthetic niceties, like the option to add a cover photo to the top of any page.
When you first open the app, though, it doesn’t do enough to help you understand everything it can do. Even after weeks of using Taskade daily, I’m only now figuring out the most efficient ways to do things while trying to avoid making terrible layout decisions. Do I really need a full-page photo inside my to-do list? My advice: Make heavy use of Taskade’s templates, because they help you layout pages and show what the app’s capable of.
There are native Taskade apps for Windows, Mac and iOS. Mr Zhao says an Android app should be available within weeks. The web app works beautifully on desktop and mobile, too, and it’s the exact same experience no matter which platform you’re using.
Taskade is very dependent on internet connectivity. It works offline only with pages you’ve opened recently while connected—which means all you can do is cross your fingers every time you open Taskade on a plane. On the upside, you can embed tweets and YouTube videos, even entire webpages, within a Taskade document.
Photo: David Pierce/The Wall Street Journal
Though I use Taskade to stay on top of my own work and life (and you should too), Taskade is designed for business teams. It offers collaborative editing, inline comments and useful tools for managing permissions and assigning tasks. If you use Slack, you can get alerts every time someone comments on or changes a Taskade document. It isn’t a substitute for Slack or Salesforce, but it can replace many of the tools so many companies use to store and share information.
One-stop Shop
Matt Galligan, the founder of the Picks and Shovels Co., a cryptocurrency services startup, offered a useful metaphor for Taskade. He says using the app is akin to shopping on Amazon. Before, “stores specialized,” he said, “and they did a good job.” Then Amazon came along and aggregated everything. It maybe wasn’t the best store for any single thing, but the one-stop convenience made it unbeatable.
That’s just it: Taskade isn’t as powerful a spreadsheet tool as Excel, and it doesn’t have some of the task-management features I want—when a task is due, I would like an alert, for instance. (Taskade says that’s coming.) Yet the app has helped me whittle the places I keep stuff down to just two. I can’t stop email from coming in; I can put everything else in Taskade.
Photo: David Pierce/The Wall Street Journal
There are lots left for the Taskade team to do, of course. In addition to task reminders, it’s also working on calendar sync, PowerPoint-style presentation features, a web clipper, better offline support and that Android app. It’s also planning to support services such as Zapier and If This Then That (IFTTT), which help move data between apps. But it already does more than any of its competitors.
For years, I’ve bounced around various note-taking apps and productivity tools, never quite happy. Evernote makes it easy to capture information, but I never liked the interface. Google Docs and Keep don’t offer enough features. Trello, Asana and other project-management software don’t work for note-taking.
Taskade fuses the best of each—and others—into a rare renaissance app, proficient in countless methods of creation and organization. I can’t put a price on the peace of mind that comes from an unfragmented life. Wait, yes I can: It’s eight bucks a month.
Innerview: Pete Dulin / Present Magazine
January 2007
Art & Photo: DJG
Note: Interview for a Kansas City, MO art and culture blog.
01) How long have you been designing posters and CD packaging/artwork?
If I were to say I’ve been designing this stuff since Mom gave birth, well you might think me to be pompus, new agey and bit queer. However, in the past few years I’ve come to the conclusion that everything I’ve experienced has brought me to this point. Information has been at a constant and consistently carried in the backpack(s). Though, it’s more the matter of channeling that. I’ve always been making things. To put things into a more professional, or “text book” answer, I’m in the sixth year developing a bad back of my own accord. And tack on another four and a half of formal training before that. In which two of those I was making things for people on the side. So, really about 7 or 8 years in a design sense, but only offically five under my DJG belt. So, I’m still a youngster. But, I feel design years add up like dog years. 02) How would you describe your approach or design aesthetic? With certain I have my influences and I’ve had formal training. However, the majority of the time is spent not thinking, rather just doing. And I’m not trying to push athletic shoes. Each day my head gets up different. I am always hungry and eat food the same way. I always put my pants on the same way. I lock the door the same way. I walk the same way. That stuff is all automatic. It’s my head that differs. As the mush upstairs is assembling for the day, my thinking and process(es) tends to come different, though it can all be intuitive to me at the same time. True, somedays I’m not in any shape to win the pennant, nor even give a care about art or design. Yes, I do crank out the work by just doing…and my portfolio is always eating. But, I still feel I’m the laziest guy in my woom, even on a good day. I don’t really consider myself an artist or a designer. I just enjoy the act of making those things but there are moments I just don’t feel like it. When design isn’t doing “it” for me, I read or write or watch things. If I’m not doing anything, I have to be doing something. And I’ve quit the whole notion of actually being something other than just myself. And my self is not always in the mood for me. And I don’t think about a design being good enough to measure-up or anything silly like that. It just has to feel right and true within me. I can tell when something feels forced and without life. For me, the work has to be breathing and has to say something. Now, whatever it conversates to the viewer/audience is all up in the air. It’s always a hoot to hear what others think. Back on the subject of others’ talk of an aesthetic. This is one of the few times I truely think about how I’m doing things. I then start overthinking and that can be a dangerous place. People come to me all the time and say things like, “Oh, you are really great at this and are such a skillfull artisan of the such ‘n’ such…(more nonsense fluff ensues).” This is a complement I suppose, but I tend to take it as a way of them saying that it’s all coming to easy for me. I am my only competition so this is when I start to push myself a bit harder. I’ve got to stay ahead of myself. I like the silly idea of someone doing their best work every day. I don’t know how long I’ll be around, but I hope I’m always doing my best work from my perspective. 03) Historically, society has shifted from the Age of Mechanical Reproduction since the advent of the printing press to the Age of Digital Reproduction. Why is it still important to make a man-made mark on something seemingly short-lived as a band flyer or poster? In taking foundation courses during my first year of formal education we did not use computers. Everything was very basic, hands-on cutting and pasting and drawing fundamentals of design. My friends were complaining about how they couldn’t wait to get on the computer. Personally, I was so naive and so in love with making things by hand (ever since I could remember working my fingertips as a child) that the idea of designing with a computer was not in my vocabulary. I stated to my friends how I was going to take the route of design that didn’t include the aid of computers. They simply laughed at my lunacy. Being that it was the late ‘90s, it was inevitable that we’d be using computers. What’s funny now is that for some odd reason I’ve been able to succeed a bit working with my hands and most of the people I went to school with tire of staring at their computer screen day jobs. I definately appreciate a computer and I use one. But, I think of it only as a tool. I use it as a way to ease production a bit and of course it can be a time saver for layout and print. The problem with computers, the internet and desktop publishing gear is that anybody can be a designer. It’s definately eased things I suppose, but we’ve got people cranking out the most obtrusive visual clutter. I don’t aim to sound arrogant. It’s just that everybody thinks they know what they are doing. Everybody wants the cliche in high-gloss makeup, filled to the brim and in suffocation galore. Why not? We over-consume everything else. It’s just sad to me. I even see trained designers doing it. And most everything just feels so fake and soulless. When I first saw those early cave paintings in grade school text books, something about those expressions just delighted me and it felt right and true. And now when I see graffiti on the wall or a shopping list or letter I just think about the heart and energy behind it all. One of the best things that ever happened to me (with design) is when my computer crashed about five years back and I lost the ability to use 2,000 some fonts. When I had them, I tried to use them appropriately and sparingly. But, they were nothing but a crutch to me. Rarely do I use computer fonts now. If I do there better be a reason or a restraint in my time. I just found it important to really speak honestly with my work. Each day is different and so is my voice and thought. Hand scrawls, handmade type and thumbprints bring forth the idea of a human identity and feels like thought and life was put into the expression. True, if we had the ability to actually see people’s verbal speaking expression there are some voices that would be just plain dull and in the same ol’ font and face over and over. And I suppose at times that would be appropriate. But, just think about the endless images bouncing from each other if everybody’s words, language, expression, feelings and breath stuck around in a clear visual form and of their own signature. That would be incredible. But, I’m sure it would do more harm than good. But, it would definately be something else for people to complain about so then there would be even more imagery because of it! The great artist Saul Steinberg communicated language as marks of visual expression in this way in much of his work. A poster to me is exciting because of the fact that it is short-lived, yet it can be very in-your-face and of the moment. A good poster to me is like a big zit. And a good one will pop and speak all over…let you know that it’s there. It boggles me when people don’t take advantage of this idea. It just seems like people push a duplicator button and paint with boringness and fluorescents over and over. It’s very zombie. (though, zombies could probably make more creative things). In this digital age of people getting information via the web and myspace and cell phones and music players and all that garbage, it’s even more important to get them to focus at things again. I’m all for the internet, but I feel hardly anybody under the age of 35 truely looks at anything in actual form anymore for more than 2 seconds. I am guilty of this too. And this possibly stems from perception of wanting everything bigger, better, faster and right now. These things that are supposed to make our lives easier, yet fill life to the brim and we’re still wondering where our time went. So, it does mean a lot to me when people actually stop and look and think…maybe come back to it again. It’s warming to me when something measley like a concert poster can get somebody to stop their busy life and take notice in a notice. Maybe even get a tickle out of it and a smile in their heart to make their day…maybe even take it home for their own wall. That just means the world. 04) Do you have particular influences in art/design? I used to think you had to have a little man with flash cards or answers written in undershorts for quick draws whenever approached with this question. Anymore I don’t care about impressing people. I touched before on my influence of just existing and growing. I don’t understand it when people find or ape a “style” and milk that into retirement (unless it’s a true and pure speciality like most folk artists, Edward Gorey or Jean-Michel Basquiat). Gosh, I would cut off my hands as opposed to making the same thing everyday until I die. But, I would also do the same to be able to draw or paint like some people. What it is that I do is not something I punch a time card for, nor pound a keyboard to compute my solutions. It is a way of life and life is always changing. Silly, but the only way to stop it from my body is to spill my skull. And then have the bums burn my thumb prints to keep warm at night. I’m blessed to have been raised in a rural environment with a bit of old-fashioned and hands-on approach to things. I wanted so badly to get out of that environment when I was coming of high school age. Now, I really appreciate this aspect of my life. Don’t begin to ask me how I reached into the design grab bag and pulled out this funny-lookin’ rabbit i’m wiggling on. It just kind of happened. Most of it belongs to my always active imagination and having many acres to romp. There wasn’t really a drain plug on what I could do or absorb. Every day my siblings and I were into something new and building our own altered universe from the inspiration of television, movies, tractor pulls, rodeos, demolition dirbies, state fairs…you name it. A great aspect of all of this is that I never really shed any of it. If you could devise a way for me to go back into my time as an eleven-year-old, you bet I would. I feel so many shear that skin as they reach puberty and young adulthood. Even in my late teens when everybody was out dating and all that nonsense, I made myself go to my room and draw and make things. Shoot, I was still building tree houses and playing war (I still do at times). I am constantly fumbling back for it all. I’ve still got most of my childhood things all around me here in my basement club house. I don’t throw anything away. Everytime I go home another bag or two is brought back. The older I get the more I believe my streak stems a lot from my Grandmother on my Dad’s side. I still have many of the things she’s made by hand: fridge magnets, cat head pillow, blankets, book bag. As well as carry the images of wearing bread bags on my feet to school, creating toys out of thread spools, baking and cooking all the time, building forts in the living room, making pretty ladies out of flowers and especially sporting my beloved dead animal backpack (denim with plastic lining for easy blood clean-up). These things sound strange to others, but my world is built from them. She was constantly making or doing (as most of her generation did). I’m a big fan. It’s sad to me as nobody really just makes things anymore for the heck of it. And it’s really sad as she sits and bides her time in the nursing home, limited in her making and doing. I hope my engine breaks from making and doing before I get put in that point. If not, take me to the back forty and shoot me rotten. If somebody were to ask me to place my work in some sort of design bracket…well, I suppose it lands somewhere in the land of Henryk Tomaszewski meets Saul Steinberg meets Lester Beall meets Saul Bass meets Push Pin meets Ray Johnson meets Art Chantry meets Jim Henson meets Folk Art meets garbage in the street…or something like that. It’s really hard to answer that question. Anyway, I get bored with the look of a lot of current design and fashions. Though, there are a few great designers my age coming out of the woods more and more…doing fresh things and in creative ways. I think it stems from growing up in a time of the media of television, film, video games, computers, animation, graphic novels and just the overall mass consumerism of culture and language. And all of these things shaking hands with the idea of pushing boudaries and smothered with a glaze of technology. But, then again every generation is a little bit more ahead of the last…I guess to some degree. I love and appreciate my upbringing and even my access to the culture now. Still, I do wish sometimes I could have lived and designed some fourty, fifty or sixty years back. Though, I’m sure I’d still be in some basement, garnering enjoyment making things the way I want to make them. 05) Does your work relate to the subject matter? For example, do you consciously try to create artwork that suits a band’s music or image? I think some people in the music industry don’t know how to take my work. For one, I feel most of the so-called scene takes itself way too seriously. It’s funny to me, all this playing dress-up and rock star…and especially when it extends into the late twenties and thirties. But, I do suppose some people were just born to be stars. My work isn’t for every person. But, there are a few out there who for some odd reason “get” it and it’s all very flattering of their attraction. It’s even spreading across the country and into other parts of the world. I don’t aim for cool points. I take it serious only to the point of being non-serious. However, when designing it’s important to be held accountable with your client, city, audience, environment, venue, peers and yourself. And I have morals with the world design community, art and design history and with myself. When it comes to marrying my work to a certain band’s music or image…well, what do I have to base on for an image? I have nothing but other designer’s interpretations of where to categorize the idea of what/how a sound or scene should register as. I have an appreciation for the past and present, but I really find it odd when somebody comes to a designer and says they want to play look-alike-dress-up to something already in existence. True, nothing is original anymore and I’m not saying that I’m anything special. Rather, I feel personality helps white wash things a bit and a lot of design these days lacks it (especially in the music industry). These days you can throw a rock and hit many kids making things (music and art). But a large chunk of it seems to be lacking proper development and form…and life. You can’t pick somebody else’s nose and expect to smear those boogers for yourself. You’ve got to earn them. You’ve got to get dirty along the way and find a way to bark, have fun, be yourself and just do things to do them…and then have Mom hose you off at the back door. 06) Pick one of your favorite creations. What do you like best about its elements? First of all, my designs to me are like multiple babies to a mother. Yes, some may look more handsome and pretty and say all the right things and in the right way. Some may pay their own bills and some may be a pain in the rear. Each one is a favorite to me at the time of their creation and birth and in memory to the place that I was at the time of conception. You can point at every 300 and some poster I’ve made and it has a name, place and means something to me. If you said for me to create something for you like one I did back in 2001, well I couldn’t. It was in and of it’s place in my time. It won the race for that given moment. Shoot, sometimes I can’t even work within the same manner fifteen minutes ago. One creation that comes to mind for this question is a package design and identity for The Elevator Division. It’s one that I can call a significant and critical moment in my design sensibility. It’s one that garnered lots of attention and even though I plan to always be making my best work, the “Whatever Makes You Happy” EP CD will always be in my all-time top ten. I came up with the insane idea of cutting, spray painting imagery and making elaborate inserts for 250 packages (I vowed I’d never do it again, but funny how I work…and how I nearly exhausted my tank a month ago repeating this ridiculous process for another CD project). Anyway, so here I am the night before making all of these things and I end up changing my concept at the last minute. Thankfully, it still fit the real estate of the cardboard package, though It required spraying each cover three times as opposed to once. So, production time was tripled and time was not on my side but the design I felt was…and it worked and said a thousand time more than the original. What I had was an attention grabbing image of a hand shooting one of it’s fingers guised as a missle. The idea of shooting off one’s options…or, whatever makes you happy. It worked. It popped. It spoke exactly what the title and the band were speaking of in the music with relationships and with the political climate of war and post-terrorism America . And it came to me the night before (Anyway, I’m boring you with all that designer yap). So, my excitement of the new imagery, fueled my creation of 250 packages in less than a 48 hour period (and let’s not forget to mention i was working a day job). I was really smart and thought it was an awesome idea to spray paint in a basement with no ventilation. At the end of my final hour I erupted from the fumes and haze, with red, white and black paint caked to my hands and coming from my mouth and nose. I flung open the front door of the house as lightning crackled to find a hard rain falling. I was Noah and my boat was taking off…or landed, based on perspective of the event. In revival I jumped and slid head first down the steep grassy embankment and into the dirty, flooded street. I was washed clean. Sadly the design was so effective that it sold-out within a couple of shows and I had to do it all over again. But, the next round was adapted to a standard jewel case. 07) What’s essential on a poster or flyer to grab a viewer’s attention in mere seconds? How does form and function come into play? I’ve touched upon this a wee bit in an earlier question. People tend to have short attention spans and walk with their heads down…and/or simply don’t look at things. Because of this a design has really got to pop, have immediacy and definately needs to say something. It’s funny because people have told me things like, “That is probably your worst poster.” It’s rare for people to be so honest in this way, but I love it when they are so passionate about it (and I love it when they say probably because that means they’ve really put some thought into it and have had discussions with themselves about it in comparable reason with my past efforts and wasted time wrestling with it). But, for some reason that poster really must have spoken to them to have so much feel for it. Normally these are the posters that end up being published and placed in traveling exhibitions. It’s really funny to me. At the time of creation I’m not trying to piss on anybody nor try to make something groundbreaking or award-winning. I just feel like doing things the way I do them in that moment and I feel I make them work. Form and function is an important application for design. Here is another thing I’ve already mentioned…I feel so many kids see something cool and just start cranking out these cool-lookin’ forms…hand-picking the way their things will look. There is a major lack of growth in most art-music these days…even outside of these areas…even just in someone’s persona. I’m not saying you can’t have influences, everybody’s got them and everything’s been done before and done better. I just long for things that speak of their own island. It’s like on “Jurassic Park”. You can’t go in and recreate the notion of copying dinosaurs for yourself. You can only get away with that for so long. Anyway, I also spoke about designs grabbing attention by way of having human elements and a definate soul behind them. I’ve come to compare a poster to a pop song. Sure they’ve been done a thousand times before…but, you can tell the ones that have a true sense of personality and heart to them. There is so much dead-beat fluff out there that can’t even be compared to something that’s alive…something that knows the rules but takes them and reassembles them to their own architecture. It’s very evident in music especially. For instance two bands can play on separate late night talk shows within minutes of each other. Both write pop songs. One speaks freshness and purity, even looks sincere, despite being just a pop band with another pop song. The other feels like actors assembled to play a song somebody else penned for an instant “fat wallet”. It just feels too perfect and calculated…and lifeless. Not everybody cares about this or sees this. It is subjective to a certain degree, but there is a true difference. 08) In your opinion, are flyers and posters a low-brow form of art? People have really started holding posters in higher regard the past five or more years. Poster making is hotter than ever and it really hit a certain peak a couple years ago. The work is spreading farther than just within its respected cities. The artists are becoming just as popular as their art.A poster these days is living beyond it’s short life on the street, on a corkboard or at the venue. People are excited about it. Exhibitions, magazines, websites, books and design annuals celebrate the scene. Collectors and fans of art and music are snatching them up. True, the art of the poster has been around for a long time (and I’ll just reflect on it from my vantage point at the moment). But, I feel that it’s now (band posters in particular) really being taking seriously in the art world. At one time (and in some cases and by some people, still are) posters and flyers were being seen as litter and visual clutter. We can’t help but owe a lot of the commotion to modern pioneers like Art Chantry. He basically single-handily changed the way of the poster back in the ‘70s and ‘80s with experiments, lavish production methods and design aesthetics. He is considered a master artist to the trade and even in the arts in general. Shoot, seeing him lecture in college six years ago helped me decide to take that leap onto the starving artist limb-limbo, doing my own thing as opposed to working for another man. I spoke briefly to him after that lecture and told about my interest in independent music design. He was honest and said, “Expect to starve…several times over.” And I have. I still need to tell him that…and tell him thank you. Though, many poster artists these days no longer have to starve. It’s being taken so seriously and the quality of art is held so high that some can do it for full-time income…and do it rather successfully. A lot of them have full-fledged design studios and cranking out more than just posters. And there are a lot of guys like me with day jobs and coming home to moonlight out of basements and back bedrooms. For myself, I kind of hit the scene at the right time when it was really starting to explode..even though I didn’t really know what I was doing, other than just “doing”. I feel it definitely takes a certain mindset and you’ve got to make some sacrifices. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, but with poster art, anyone can do it…it’s easy to do and with limited resources. And then you’ve got the excitement of people bringing back almost deceased production techniques like the letter press. My only rant right now with poster art is that though the quality of work looks great, I feel there is a definite cohesive “look” and style to a lot of it right now. There are a few doing their own thing, but a lot of it is starting to look the same and almost becoming too easy and formulated for some. This is where I give my two cents of brain fart. What’s great about a poster is it’s actual short-lived life on the street. It makes all the more reason to try new things and really push the art form and most importantly gives reason to just be yourself. If it fails it will be gone or in the gutter within weeks and another will take its place. -djg
