MY CATU LIVEBLOG
I did it for the crossover, so I thought i’d do it for the new movie (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe, for those unaware of the acronym)!
TLDR: 8/10 not canon, but surprisingly good nevertheless.
Good: character interactions, dialogue (hilarious), everyone was involved, nice use of Chekhov's guns, absolutely EPIC background music
Bad: off-model issues, animation kind of flash-esque at times, the color palette was more like MML than PnF (more saturated and oddly shaded with clashing colors), overly long gags/pacing problems, immersion-breaking/stereotypical sound effects sometimes, some OOC
Ahh, i've missed Candace's singing.
WAIT A SECOND, WHY DOES HER CHARACTER MODEL LOOK SO MEATY (her head shape is blobby, too)
Oh my god, the entire Hirano family a minute in....i'm living.
Hmmm, the pyramid sports thing was from "Thanks But No Thanks," which is a Season 4 episode. In that episode, Vanessa is dating Monty, which only happened after "Minor Monogram" in Season 3. We know that Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension takes place in July after "Candace Loses Her Head" (since Doof's Drill-inator from that episode is scene in ATSD), but also before or around "Great Balls of Water" (since it's July in that episode) and definitely before "This is Your Backstory" (2D!Doof's advice to Doof is referenced)/"Road to Danville" (Phineas' trust gesture is referenced)/"Fly on the Wall" (the summer song gets referenced). LONG STORY SHORT: if ATSD took place in July, when the fridge does CATU take place if we're considering it canon?
Seriously, her off-modelness is super distracting to me. It was fine that she essentially had a triangle silhouette because she also had stick limbs, but giving her realistically meaty limbs makes me question why the rest of her is shaped like that. Bad.
That is some EPIC opening music!
Okay, the weird shading on that clown is also super distracting. PnF's design aesthetic is light and bright....I wonder if the MML people worked on this movie or something (which would also explain Candace's odd meatiness).
Why are all the lines so thick????? It looks like one of those low-budget toonboom or whatever animations Disney posts to YouTube.
Hmmmmm, Doof did the "evenly matched" thing in "Doofapus," too.
OH MY GOD, THE SATURATED COLORS + DARKNESS + THICK LINES ARE SOOOOOOOOO UGLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
Bwahahahahaha, that pause when Candace is like "Actually, yes, WTF is it now?" is hilarious.
I like the detail of how all the kids' bikes are lying there in the driveway.
I would've just grabbed Linda's head and turned it at that point, honestly.
Linda is telling Candace calmly that she's exhausted...WHEN DOES THIS MOVIE TAKE PLACE?!!!!
Candace learns by "Sci-Fi Pie Fly" that she can take a break from busting to the betterment of her mental health sometimes....and that's a Season 3 episode. WHEN. DOES. THIS. MOVIE. TAKE. PLACE.
Ahh, i've missed Baljeet and Buford's banter. #oldmarriedcouple
Phineas is like "Candace wasn't having fun this summer? D:" but, like, if this movie takes place in the middle....they sure as heck didn't acknowledge it for the entire rest of the summer. HRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, THIS IS WHY YOU CAN'T JUST RETROACTIVELY INSERT EVENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF A SERIES: WE KNOW HOW THE REST OF THE SUMMER/THEIR LIVES TURNED OUT.
Why is Perry's wrist communicator a square. It's a circle throughout the entire series.
Does Vanessa have a scooter license? Do you need a license to ride a scooter? She was complaining in "Vanessassary Roughness" that she was always riding on the back of Doof's scooter, so I assumed she didn't. We did learn in "Finding Mary McGuffin" that she knows how to drive/has her license in "This is Your Backstory," does that count?
WAIT, WHY IS VANESSA SO PINK???? SHE AND DOOF ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A DIFFERENT SHADE OF WHITE (more coffee-toned) FROM THE FLYNN-FLETCHERS. Goddang, I had always appreciated how even the white characters were all different shades from each other in PnF....what a letdown.
Mmmm, characters either willingly engage in diegetic music in this show ("Where's Pinky?"), or it's just an imagine spot/non-diegetic. "Why do I have a guitar?" is not something that should be said.
Hmmmmmmmm, Candace is faulting the universe.......in ATSD she's talking about the Mysterious Force.....HMMMMMMMMM.....
Sounds like that was what Vanessa used to stop her Evil Busting phase...nice. Also, i'm only ~7 minutes into this movie, but i've spent the last 30 minutes watching it.
Hey, astute observation! That's what I always say: Candace wants to bust her brothers both because their projects can get dangerous ("Happy Birthday Isabella"/"Picture This"/"The Great Indoors"/ATSD/etc), and because she feels overshadowed by them/that they can get away with more than her ("Gi-Ants"/"For Your Ice Only"/"Love at First Byte")!
OH MY GOD, SHE ACTUALLY SAID "...completely overshadowed by Phineas and Ferb?" HOLY VALIDATION BATMAN
Man, i've said it before about Vanessa's deconstruction of Doof's motivations in "Last Day of Summer," but she would make a great therapist or something. I hope she goes into Psychology in the future.
HMmmm, I do kind of wish it was with Stacy that she had this breakthrough with, considering how Stacy's been her best friend since they were 5 years old ("Phineas and Ferb Save Summer")/she's only known Vanessa since "Phineas and Ferb: Summer Belongs to You!" somewhere in June. Like, I get that Vanessa is more in-tune with psychological stuff like this and it makes sense, but i’m just a Stacy fan at heart
Oooh, she's even saying "breakthrough" and "healing!"
UGLY SHADING/SATURATION YET AGAIN (did I mention that the D.E.I. scooter is also the wrong color from how we've seen it before? because it is)
Bwuh, "What Do it Do?" all over again.
Okay, seriously, it looks like the giant thing is floating...where's the shadow under it?? THERE IS NONE.
BRO, THERE HAD BETTER BE MORE STACY IN THIS MOVIE. DON'T TELL ME SHE JUST GETS A CAMEO AT THE BEGINNING.
What did they make her? I want to know!
Ooooh, Candace's hands are way too small in that window shot. The off-modelness is so distracting.
AUGH, PHINEAS HAS A BABY HAND, TOO.
Haha, I love it when debris falls in with Perry when he goes to his lair.
Bwahaha, he's so done with Monogram
They use landlines ("Sipping with the Enemy") and physical files...don't try to tell me that PnF takes place later than 2012 I won't hear it.
NICE FILE PHOTO, CANDY
Wait, they have a whole alert-protocol thing about a host family member getting kidnapped by aliens, but it says to send the assigned agent on the mission??? In "Undercover Carl" and "Bullseye!" Monogram specifically didn't want Perry to get involved (in ATSD Perry was acting on his own), so ????????? Is it because he's their best agent or what?????
Some stuff is missing from Phineas and Ferb's room (on the walls).
GALACTIC WEB???? My first thought was the Galactic Kids Next Door
Haha, oh, these kids. Love little moments like these.
Why do characters always play with a ball when in jail/trapped? 2D!Candace did it in ATSD, too.
Why is that CGI so conspicuous. PnF used CGI sometimes, and it didn't look like butt. We're in 2020, people.
BWAHAHA, Vanessa!!
Ooh, they're bringing back Space Adventure! Now, we know that after "Not Phineas and Ferb" in Season 2 they say they're over it, but also that 9 episodes later in "Nerds of a Feather," Phineas and Ferb go to a convention/dress up from it. WHEN DOES THIS MOVIE TAKE PLACE.
Hmmm, cutaway gags like I remember MML doing...still too Family Guy for my tastes, especially with it being overly long. (I'm also not pleased with how Baljeet's half-lidded eyes goes straight across instead of bending over the curvature of his eye like what PnF usually does....the straight thing is also Family Guy/South Park's style. This does not bode well.)
WHOA, OFF-MODEL BALJEET ALERT!!!!! WHY IS HE SHORTER THAN PHINEAS AND WHY IS HIS ARM BENDING LIKE THAT!!!!
Bruh, Phineas thinking it's dangerous and not asking his friends to go seems OOC. Where was this attitude in "Meapless to Seattle?" In "Night of the Living Pharmacists?" In ANY OTHER dangerous scenario?
I do like how the kids are getting to go with them this time after missing out on ATSD.
NORM?!!!!!!!!!!!
PBBBFFFT, WHY DO YOU THINK GIVING THEM BUFORD WOULD APPEASE THEM
Hey, yeah, they've never made mistakes like this! What's going on?
Okay, seriously, in ATSD and NOTLP the kids don't know who Doof is. WHEN. MOVIE. Also, Doof's lab interior does have the correct items in it, but they're colored + shaded weirdly.
DOOF IS A VIRGO?!! Okay, that tracks with him being incompatible with Sagittarius people from "Love at First Byte."
Mmmm, the animation is definitely more on the "low budget YouTube shorts" level. The way Doof moves....
Yeah, gotta stick to your brand, bwaha!
OKAY, SERIOUSLY, THAT IS NOT THE SAME CHICKEN-REPLACE INATOR FROM "What a Croc!" GET THE GODDANG COLORS RIGHT JEEZ DID THESE PEOPLE NOT LOOK AT A SINGLE MODEL SHEET BEFORE MAKING THIS MOVIE
Bwahahahahahahaha, I missed Buford and Isabella's banter (and Buford is right: they might need a canoe...or maybe that's just my over-preparedness talking)!
Again: "Undercover Carl"/"Bullseye!"
Ah, Buford.
Wait a second, they didn't even have an introduction scene between Doof and the kids like they did in ATSD. *insert thinking emoji here*
Meh, D.E.I.'s been blown up worse before (the "Ask a Foolish Question" time comes to mind)
DOOF YOU ARE THE ADULT SUPERVISION!!!! GAH!!
Wait, what are you talking about Candace? I don't remember a voice automated translator being a thing in the Flynn-Fletcher household. If this is a crack at Alexa/Google Home or whatever, THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN SHOWN TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE IN ALL OF THE EPISODES OF PNF
They could have done a fireman slide, I guess...though maybe the friction would've made that a bad idea.
Okay, is everyone going to get mind-wiped at the end of this or what? Candace didn't even know Vanessa's last name or where she lived in "It's No Picnic," and they definitely didn't seem friendly enough in NOTLP considering all of these interactions. I'm going to count up all the "WHEN MOVIE" comments i've made by the end of this liveblog, and if it's 10+ i'm just going to say the movie is non-canon/just an OVA. I am enjoying it more than the MML crossover so far, so that's good, though.
Haha, oh, Candace. See, this is why she and Stacy are BFFs: same braincell (AKA Stacy's "Elementary My Dear Stacy"/"Put That Putter Away" moments).
OH, CANDACE. XD
OH, SNAP!!!
Ugh, okay, the "WHEN MOVIE" doesn't even matter anymore. Officially non-canon due to irreconcilable timeline a la MML post-2016 reference.
Yay, Isabella showing off her skills again! People tend to forget that she's also smart.
Go, Perry!!
Oh my god, the "unsung hero" being technically sung....good stuff
Oh my god, Perry, nooooo!! Someone save him!
Wait, did Doof purposefully put that platypus-sized spacesuit on the ship for Perry?!! Awwwwwwwww!!
HAHA, BUFORD
Oh my god, Vanessa, noooo!!! D: I bet the pods were sent back to where they came from/Vanessa should've been in the Earth pod.
Goddang, good thing that planet's got breathable air (not that that ever really gets addressed in PnF, haha).
Ah, okay, it took her to the planet the aliens are from. Weird.
Wait, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, these aliens are weirdly humanoid!! What!! PnF was so good about that ("Out to Lauch"/"The Chronicles of Meap"/"Escape from Phineas Tower"/"Sci-Fi Pie Fly")!!
So they were sending out pods looking for a leader? Weird. Also, they already had Candace be the leader in "Gi-Ants"/"Unfair Science Fair Redux (Another Story)."
Wait, they're doing show-tunes, and pretty much only people who are Evil in PnF do that ("Phineas and Ferb Save Summer"/"The Klimpaloon Ultimatum"/most of Doof's songs). I bet they're going to sacrifice her because of a prophecy or something.
Okay, -1000 points for the Floss. I hate it so much. You know what you'd be flossing if you did that with real rope? POOP. GROSS. Bring back Baljeet dabbing if you're going to make a reference like that, dabbing is fun.
Okay, this song is officially going on for too long. I know the overly long gag thing is a Family Guy staple, too. U G H, leave that horribleness out of my wholesome cartoons, please. Goddang, the influence was even in WBB's movie, too (Panda's dead pose). The Horribleness Lovers are infiltrating the animation industry. (How do I know about the Horribleness if I don't watch Family Guy/South Park? From people making infoposts about how horrible they are + reading up on their wikias/watching YouTube analyses of them, of course. Knowledge is power, and you must know your enemy.)
Seriously, open the freaking door. All of these overly long gags are not only unfunny, they eat up the runtime. PnF has great pacing where it's not too fast (Wander Over Yonder was sometimes too fast), but spends enough time on the things that need it. Opening a door is not something that needs time, especially when it's following up an overly long song.
I bet they're going to extract the element from her or something.
I'M PARANOID, TOO
Wait, this lady (I didn't catch her name) seems to be their leader?? Is she abdicating?
So the aliens have a gender binary, too? Is that necessary? Would that be necessary?
Hmm, I know that Doof didn't realize how futile rotating the moon was in "The Doof Side of the Moon" and what a boat was in "Are You My Mummy?" but he tends to be smart about intricate science stuff. Like, the problem with his inators (he even says it himself in "Phineas and Ferb Save Summer") is that he executes them poorly, not that he's failing in other aspects. Like, is this is the same scientist that built a Re-Good inator solely from plane parts in "Where's Perry?"
That cutaway was not necessary.
BALJEET, NO. Also, is it in character for him to be so gung-ho about trying out this unprecedented maneuver? I know he does have a wild side, but it's not usually about science things/throwing things that require this much caution to the wind.
Wouldn't they pass out from the G-forces or whatever?
Wait, what was the point of that alien mammoth getting flung? I mean, I figured that was going to happen to their ship by the way it landed on the mushroom.
Haha, oh, Doof.
XDDDD Buford had better save the day, since he's the only one that doesn't register the ominous tone. If he doesn't that'd be such a waste of the gag.
Haha, Buford. Still my favorite kid. :')
Okay, I seriously can't hear anything this alien leader lady says. It's like she's whispering all her lines with a hoarse throat or half-mumbling parts of her sentences or something. I have my volume turned up, and it's not helping.
Gross. WAIT, ISN'T THAT LIKE WHAT THE CITIZENS OF THE CANDY KINGDOM DO FROM ADVENTURE TIME?
Wait, do they have a farming culture? They were doing something in a field right now.
Hmm, yeah, lots of non-humanoid alien species on this planet alone....did they NEED to make the kidnapper ones so humanoid?
Doof, you even said that there was no adult supervision earlier. XD Isabella's definitely more qualified to lead, considering she's a Fireside Girl Troop leader/her vast array of badges compared to Doof absolutely ruining the Tri-State Area in "Phineas and Ferb's Quantum Boogaloo" and not knowing what leadership entails in "The Beak"/"Last Day of Summer."
Haha, yeah, see! Whip out those badges.
HAHAHAHA, Oh, Doof. I can see him facing front in the card's photo, ahhh, frontal Doof.
DOOF!!! XDD
Oh my god, he took her hat. She looks like she's starting to get pissed....you never want to get on Isabella's bad side. XDD (She knows hapkido/jujitsu from NOTLP)
Oh my god, this song is amazing.
See, songs are okay to be long if they're dynamic: lots of movement between locations, varying camera angles, engaging lyrics, moves the plot forward, etc. Now this is PnF!
Baljeet, please. XD
Oh my god, poor Doof. Yowch! I hope his leg's not broken. D: He's certainly dragging it around like it is.
HAHA, I love how he just calmly zaps it!!! Nice (and a good example of the experience thing he was talking about earlier).
That chicken looks uncomfortably realistic for PnF's style (we've seen Agent C in "Traffic Cam Caper" before and a rooster in "Cheer Up Candace").
They got the farmer's hair color wrong. Interesting that they brought him and his wife back, though!
What's with the sudden cartoony sound effects for Doof falling??????? Bad.
Hmm, the audience seems like they're being mind-controlled.
It can't be the first time ever, since she was a star in "Flop Starz"/"Run Away Runway"/"Lights, Candace, Action!"/"Unfair Science Fair Redxux (Another Story)"/"Gi-Ants."
For a hot second I thought she was going to ask Candace to marry her or join her family or something.
I bet Vanessa is going to tame that alien dragon! Also, I hope they realize she's not on earth soon.
I bet the gift they made Candace at the beginning is going to change her mind about living it up on the alien planet.
Oh my GOD, Candace has shown repeatedly that she loves and cares about her little brothers. WELP, GOOD THING THIS MOVIE AIN'T CANON.
Like, seriously, if this movie was canon, there's no way the boys would ever drop the "Candace is unhappy" thing for the rest of the summer.
HAHA, LIKE I SAID: ISABELLA IS TO BE FEARED. XD Also, wasn't it Candace's fault since she sent them away?
"While I love ominous patch-related threats more than anyone--" *AHEM* "Right, apart from Ferb" BOYS, PLEASE. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I'm getting flashbacks to Horde Prime inviting Glimmer to dinner. Also, I almost typed "Glitter" instead of Glimmer right now.
I bet she killed her brothers or had them mind-controlled or something.
Ooooooof, that's ominous.
Aw, Baljeet's so interested in joining Buford's gang.
Bwahaha, Doof looks so interested! I bet he's going to remember the stuff they're listing for later or something.
DID MONOGRAM JUST SAY DO NOT ENGAGE THE ALIENS BECAUSE OF AN INTER-GALACTIC TREATY?? IS THAT A LILO AND STITCH REFERENCE???? (probably not, but i've been getting into L&S again lately)
Meh, Buford and Baljeet survived being eaten by the worm from "One Good Turn." Those aliens will be fiiiiiiiiiiiiine. :P
Were those alien prisoners rebels or something? They have a hidden city, but they also seemed too scared to be rebels.
Oh my god, cubism.
Okay, so they're not rebels, per se, but they resist by....hiding and cowering. Sort of?
MMmmmyep, the show tunes tipped me off. So these guys got invaded by another alien species, huh? OOF, cordyceps vibes
So she needs Candace to be food for the spores or something?
Yep, she's using Candace as plant food.
Overly long gag again. :\\\\\\\\
Okay, so she didn't kill/mind-control them, but she did lock them up. I was right!
I don't know how their alien biology works, but humans can't eternally walk. Candace's legs would eventually get tired/become not able to move until the lactic acid she builds up wears off. She could also develop varicose veins or blood clots from all that standing. Bad move, aliens.
Yeah, Candace would never do something like that! Also, see: it was her fault they ended up on the prison shuttle, not Doof or Isabella's.
Bruh, the rest of the earth gang breathes CO2...did your scanners not pick up on that?
Oh my god, Candace, don't reveal information that could get earth invaded.
Wait, how was she keeping the mushroom alive before? Where did it come from?
Also, WHAT ABOUT VANESSA!!! SOMEONE SAVE VANESSA!!!
Wait, why was the alien lady holding onto the smaller alien's long moustache? Is he her pet?? CONFUSION
Ugh, they don't have to make every single thing a gag. PnF knew when to make moments real/dramatic. Grow a spine and live with the weight of emotional tension, movie.
ANOTHER OVERLY LONG GAG? No wonder this movie is so long.
Wait, is Shego the VA for the alien lady? The way she yelled sounded like Marlene, who has Shego's VA. I'm going to look this up later.
BWAHA, Vanessa hears the ominous tone, too!
I don't doubt that Doof will be able to cobble something together to get them back, but that honestly has nothing to do with "adulting" since Phineas and Ferb could probably do the same, and they're kids.
I absolutely love how Buford's still carrying that canoe everywhere.
YES!!! Haha, yes, Doof, Perry is your guardian angel (and emotional support animal). :')
I KNEW Vanessa was going to tame that dragon!!
Yeah, see, she never has that dragon again, so this movie is totally just an OVA.
OH MY GOD, PULLING A Chowder HERE, I SEE! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Yeah, you can see how off-model/pink Vanessa is right here where she's standing next to Doof. She's supposed to have his brown-tinged coloring (just look at any other time she’s next to him--”Finding Mary McGuffin”/”Minor Monogram”/NOTLP/”Hail Doofania!”/”A Real Boy”/etc).
Bwahahahaha, chicken selfie
Oh, yeah, that makes sense. What would happen if they killed the chicken? Does it only switch with alive chickens?
BWEHEHEHEHEHE
Though I don't like the particular scare chord they used when Doof holds up the Axe inator--very stereotypical/they could've composed a new version, like how Candace's leitmotif is technically Ring Around the Rosie, but different.
Aww, why not, Vanessa? It's your best bet home! Although, I guess it would be awkward considering Perry's right there....
I need to see a photo of the Lieutenant Baljeet's talking about here, for....reasons.
See, Baljeet's recklessness in this movie seems more like something Buford-i'm going to randomly mess with this ("Fly on the Wall")-Van Stomm would do
In "Nerds of a Feather" Baljeet cosplays as a Space Adventure character, so....
"You made another boat?! What've I been lugging this one around for?!" NICE, BUFORD, BWAHA
Wait, how on earth did that work? Can hunks of metal just allow something to fly like that? I admit to not knowing how planes work, but at least those have, like, engines and whatever.
WAIT A SECOND, I SPY MISHTI IN THAT MCFREAKING STADIUM CROWD!!! WHAT IS SHE DOING THERE!!! SHE'S NOT A NORMAL FILLER BACKGROUND CHARACTER!!
Stacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder if they meant to put her mom on the bleacher seat behind her, or if it's another Mishti case.
They spelled his name wrong: we saw in "Doof 101" that it's John P. Trystate (the elementary school is named after him)
Beh, nothing bad is ever supposed to happen to Roger, that's the whole point of his character. Bad.
Ah, Bujeet banter.
WHY IS ISABELLA'S ROBOT A CAT THING
They should've made something to kill the mushroom instead.
OH, JEREMY XD Wait, that didn't sound like Mitchel Musso.
Was he just making those weapons because it's his hobby? Stacy did suggest a compound bow as a gift for him in "Vanessassary Roughness," and there's a bow on the counter
Buford and Isabella banter!
I like the detail of Candace's hair being disheveled and her socks drooping after walking all this time
Aww, does she feel guilty? :(
She does. Again, this movie can't be canon, because they don't acknowledge what she's saying for the rest of the summer and this kind of breakdown would definitely leave a mark on her.
AHA, I knew that gift would come into play!
Aww, that's a cute mug! Also, good on Candace for not drinking coffee!
HMMM, OKAY, SO THE SIBLING HUG FROM "Phineas and Ferb Get Busted," WHICH WAS PERRY'S DREAM, IS ON THAT PROJECTION OF THEIR NICE MOMENTS. TOLD YA: NOT CANON.
Haha, nice @ the new gelatin memory. It aligns nicely with the various things Candace has done offscreen that Phineas and Ferb get a kick out of (getting her face caught in the dishwasher, getting tangled in the clothesline, etc)
The exploding thing is technically a step forward, but, again, the real issue is killing that mushroom. Also, are Doof and Co. still stuck??
"Why does that sound like her name?" "I dunno." BOYS
STACY...JEREMY...LARPING.....Aww, don't be ashamed, Jeremy! Candace does Ducky Momo cosplay, and she accepted your dance deficiency in "Nerdy Dancin'!" I have to say, I love it when Stacy and Jeremy are on the same side, since Candace was sidelining Stacy in favor of spending time with Jeremy for a while (to the point where "Canderemy" happened).
Mmm, I notice a trend in cartoons lately about applying psychology to things. Amphibia, SPOP, Steven Universe...it's nice to get kids used to the idea that introspection is healthy.
DID SHE JUST DIE
Okay, did they just...fly from another planet? The gang went beyond light speed to get back home....there's atmosphere issues....they didn't even bother to try and have them salvage the space suits from the inator even though characters in PnF can't survive in space/always have to wear a space suit (Doof even puffed up in "Out to Launch" when he stuck his head outside without a helmet on, and Perry made sure to put a helmet on him when he was going spaceward in "The Doof Side of the Moon")?
Oooh, okay, furthest chicken. Nice.
Aww, the dragon's shielding them! Reminds me of How to Train Your Dragon when Toothless was protecting Hiccup from the flames
WOW, that is an EPIC remix of Perry's theme music!!! Holy crud, there's not as much background music as usual in this movie, but the music that is there goes HARD.
Bwahaha, to quote Maui: "The chicken lives!"
Oh my god, Baljeet really likes petting zoos? Also, I guess the farmer's last name is McDonald??
Beverly Hills + Beverly Hills adjacent...why XD
The chicken still lives!!
Okay, so she's alive.
Ah, so that’s why the mammoth got flung.
Aw, I wish Jeremy and Stacy had had more of an action scene after gearing up.
Okay, see, this lesson she's learned? How if this movie was canon, none of the rest of the summer would have been possible? MMmmmmmmmyeah.
Wait, so the American police are just taking the aliens?? No special forces or anything?? They're ALIENS.
LAWRENCE, DON'T TOUCH THAT!!
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!! I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welp, it took me 5 hours to watch this 1 hr 24 min movie...wowza. I forgot to write it when they occurred, but I didn’t like that the alien lady’s blinking had a sound effect in that one scene or that they used the Wilhelm scream during the final battle. I do wish there’d been more Perry and Doof interactions + some more Stacy, but what we did get was good. There were some pacing problems (too much alien screentime), but the excellent interactions between the PnF gang made up for them. Also, I genuinely laughed at at least two handfuls of moments! Anyway: a good movie!! I'm shocked--i'm so picky, and I haven't liked anything since "Last Day of Summer!" I mean, it's definitely an OVA/not canon, but still!! Solid 8/10.

Tumblr media
Time for a review! Robot Trains magazine, issue 6, right under the cut!
Issue six of a two-monthly magazine means that it's been a year since the first issue! That's right, this little magazine has just reached its first anniversary. I never thought it will survive for so long, and I'm happy I can colect all those Robot Train figures!
Tumblr media
This issue comes with a Victor toy. You can instantly recognize this character's distinctive shape. The blue colour however seems to be a bit too bright, even by Season 2 standards. This toy isn't darker than Kay in Season 1 paint, and Kay always looks brighter than Victor in the show, so the figures look kinda weird next to each other. This is however just a minor issue that doesn't bother me that much.
Tumblr media
The toy's surface is very flashy and it's hard to make a good photo. It is much more flashy than Alf ans Selly toys from earlier issues.
Tumblr media
I love that the figure has a chimney on the back! Also the tiny details on wheels on its legs are a nice touch.
Tumblr media
Victor's face isn't made from a separate piece of plastic, as I first thought, but rather it is a part of the main body, carefully painted. The paint job is really well done, unlike for example the earlier Kay or Alf figures. I wanted to know what is behind Victor's face but the toy doesn't get that detailed lol. Also the body looks like it is falling apart in half, but using a bit of force to try and separate the parts had no effect, apparently the toy is tougher than it looks and won't break so easily.
Tumblr media
There is something wrong with Victor's eyebrows, they look like something messed with the plastic. This is only visible when looking closer though.
Tumblr media
Here's Victor among other Robot Trains. They look so good together! I'm proud of my little collection. You can also see Jeanne in the back row, she is a regular Robot Train toy I bought separately because I saw no chances of her being included in the magazine's collection, and she actually seems to be in the same scale as the figures, maybe a little bit too small but it doesn't stick out as much as, well, Duke and Duck.
Tumblr media
Time for the magazine. Victor is in full Season 2 mode, wearing brighter blue paint and striking a pose. His special trait is strength and power, and a piece of trivia claims he is actually shy, quiet and sensitive, and his biggest passion are flowers. The editor probably took some liberties here as it doesn’t sound accurate.
Tumblr media
Fitting with the Victor theme, there is a four-page-long story based on the episode “Oh, Victor! Mr. Romantic!”, followed by a coloring page. To make things harder, kids should also draw the path of Alf's hook. To me, Victor's drill upgrade looks both cool and silly, but it's impressive how good it looks as a 2D image.
Tumblr media
Of course there is a poster! I laughed at this because it looks like Gary is jumping from the cliff to his death (and I still dislike Gary) lol. The other side of the poster has the Rail Watch in train mode, flying Alf, and X Family running after them (even Master X is running, quite unusual for him).
Tumblr media
Next pages are just the usual games and puzzles for kids. The magazine recycles the same ideas all the time, simply changing the images used. It gets boring for me, but considering the magazine is released every two moths, a child might already forget what happened last issue, I guess. Also I'm pretty sure seeing a favourite character is enough to make the games fun. Take this image for example - “who is missing on the bottom picture?” - and look how appropriately small Train X appears next to the others! I'm glad the editors pay attention to such details.
Tumblr media
Which route should Duck choose to reach Waterland? It's funny that apparently you can reach Train X's lair just by picking the wrong route, shouldn't it be better hidden?
A few more puzzles and the issue is done. Who will be the hero of the next one? Maybe Jeffrey, to complete the original cast of robots, and also I would love a Jeffrey toy? Or maybe Genie or Maxie, to match the magazine's switch to Season 2?
Tumblr media
...Is that some kind of joke? The next issue doesn't only come with a Gary toy, the toy will be in train mode to boot! That sounds pretty lame to me and since I'm buying the magazine mostly for the toys, I might skip the next issue. I don't like Gary, and a train toy is a bit lazy in my opinion.
Still, the next issue was originally planned to be released on 17th June, but later it was postponed - most probably because of the pandemic's impact on sales and delays in shipments from China (the figures are all Made in China). Right now the publisher's website says next issue premieres today (16th July), and will include Gary in robot mode! I need to see the toy myself - if it really is a robot, I might actually buy it. Only to make my Robot Train shelf look more crowded.
This issue gets a 8/10 rating from me - I really like the Victor figure.
Thanks for reading! Next review will be soon or two months later, depending on how much I like the Gary toy.

Land of Endless Sky: ch 2
Intro & Prologue Chapter 1
++++++ Chapter 2
General, I respectfully address you on the matter regarding my continued service under your command. Events have transpired which have caused me to question my fitness and willingness to serve in my current capacity as Captain of Company “K” Second Dragoons. I herewith tender my resignation of my commission, to take effect immediately and unconditionally.
Very respectfully, Fox William Mulder Capt. Co. “K” 2d Dragoons U.S.A. June 16th, 1856
++++++ FORT KEARNY NEBRASKA TERRITORY
The sun beat down oppressively as Mulder passed through the gates of Kearny’s stockade and into the small, dusty town that had grown up in the shadow of the fort. He pushed open the door to Frohike’s Fine Goods and Provisions and entered the blessed shade and coolness of the shop.
From behind the counter, the balding, diminutive proprietor looked up from a months-old, yellowed issue of Harper’s Weekly. He squinted at Mulder through half-moon eyeglasses. “That you, Captain Mulder?”
“Yes, but not for much longer, Melvin. In two days’ time, I’ll be plain old ‘Mulder.’”
“Had enough of the frontier life, have you?” Frohike asked teasingly. “Miss the luxuries of a soft feather bed and a woman to keep you warm at night?”
“If I did, I’d have married you years ago.” It was a well-known secret that Frohike’s personal quarters at the back of the store was furnished with every modern comfort and luxury - all of it financed by the exorbitant prices he charged unwitting emigrants and spendthrift soldiers.
Frohike rolled his eyes at Mulder’s good-natured ribbing.
“Truthfully, Melvin,” Mulder said, his tone becoming serious, “I resigned my commission.”
Frohike’s face turned grave. “I heard about Ash Hollow. Can’t say much about them who would slaughter women and children, Indian or not. You’re a good man, Mulder. I’m sorry to see you leave like this.”
“As am I,” Mulder said, smiling sadly at the man who had become the closest thing he had to a friend during his time at the fort. “I’m in need of provisions. And,” he said, remembering the state of his civilian clothes, “some new attire.” What spare clothes he did have were moth-eaten and too large for him; years of living off Army rations and bison had made him leaner than when he’d first arrived from the East.
“If there’s anything I enjoy more than your company, Mulder, it’s your money,” Frohike said, jumping from his perch behind the counter and walking over to the small selection of shirts and trousers.
“Heading back East, I assume? Take up the family business?”
“No,” Mulder said, trying banish the image of his father, and the disappointed look on his face when Mulder told him he was entering West Point to earn an Army commission. He’d wanted Mulder to practice law, like he had. But the war with Mexico had captured young Mulder’s imagination, and he entertained boyish daydreams of earning glory on the battlefield. So he’d applied to the United States Military Academy. Never did he imagine that glory could be so one-sided and bloody.
His pause earned an inquisitive look from Frohike.
“I’m headed west,” Mulder went on to explain. “Maybe California. Or New Mexico. Anywhere but here.”
“Well, you picked a hell of a time to leave,” Frohike said. “Most of the emigrant trains passed through here a month ago.”
As he spoke, a lone cart with a team of four oxen passed in front of the store window. “As I was saying,” Frohike said, watching them go by with a frown, “most of them. Those folks will be lucky to make Fort Bridger by the first big snow.”
“I can make good time just myself and Ghost. If I need to lay by at Bridger or some other outpost for the winter, so be it. I’m in no hurry to get there - wherever there is.”
He handed Frohike a list of his requests. The older man nodded approvingly as he scanned the items. “I’ll have everything ready for you by this time tomorrow.”
Frohike quickly held up a hand. “Just a moment,” he said, then reached behind the counter and produced a small, bulging burlap sack. “A parting gift,” he said as he handed it to Mulder. He looked inside, and smiled at the sight of sunflower seeds.
“My thanks, as always, Melvin,” he said, and shook the man’s hand fondly.
Mulder stepped outside into the oppressive June heat as a small woman in a bonnet arrived in front of the shop. He quickly moved to open the door for her.
“Thank you,” she said, glancing up at him as she passed. Intelligent blue eyes met his. Mud and dust clung to the hem of her pale green dress, and her shoes bore evidence of miles of travel. Despite her well-worn attire, he found her remarkably beautiful and strangely familiar, and had to make a conscious effort to avoid staring longer than was appropriate.
He touched his hat in greeting. “Ma’am.”
She nodded politely, then disappeared into Frohike’s. Must be from that lone wagon party, he thought, glancing up the street. Sure enough, the wagon stood in the shade of the livery stable. The oxen stood unharnessed, taking long draws from the water trough. Frohike was right, he thought - at this rate, they would be hard-pressed to catch up with the mass of wagon trains.
++++++
He set out at first light two days later on the dusty, wheel-rutted road that led westward. The sparse, overgrazed vegetation that surrounded the fort presently gave way to a lush, waving sea of waist-high prairie grass. Above him, swallows swooped and dove in the mid-morning sun in search of insects. Their intricate acrobatics and constant twittering provided a welcome diversion from the images of dead Sioux that plagued his dreams and lingered increasingly into his waking hours. He felt his heart grow lighter with every mile he put between him and the fort. He even started singing one of his favorite tunes:
“I'm lonesome since I crossed the hill And over the moor that's sedgy Such lonely thoughts my heart do fill Since parting with my Sally I seek for one as fair and gay But find none to remind me How sweet the hours I passed away With the girl I left behind me”
Ghost snorted in agitation at his rider’s crooning. Mulder laughed and patted his neck affectionately.
“You’re right, boy. I can’t carry a tune. And I don’t even have a girl.”
He did, once. He’d fallen for the beautiful Diana Fowley when he was a cadet at West Point. The war with Mexico had raised the prestige of the Army in the eyes of the nation, and it became fashionable for a woman to be seen on the arm of a dashing young cadet. But the war ended, and when it became clear that she’d have to trade the comfort of New York City for the privations of the frontier, Diana had called off the engagement. She’d only loved him for his uniform, he’d realized too late, and the attention it afforded her within New York society.
And so, with a broken heart and a feeling of having played the fool, Mulder accepted his commission as a Second Lieutenant with the Second Dragoons and set off for the borderlands of the newly formed Republic of Texas. The pain of Diana’s rejection had eased with the change of scenery and the passage of time. He soon realized that the frontier held more opportunities for a man to avail himself of a woman’s pleasures than were afforded a young man among the New York elite. The forts had their fair share of women with questionable morals who were ready to bed any soldier with coin, but his infrequent encounters with such women always left him feeling empty and miserable, and soon he’d stopped visiting brothels altogether.
But if one had to feel empty, the Plains were a fitting place in which to find oneself, he’d discovered as the years went on. In his early days with the regiment, he’d developed a reputation as a loner, often volunteering to go out on solo patrols for weeks at a time. He could ride for days without seeing another soul, and that suited him just fine. Promotion through the ranks had decreased his opportunity to roam, and he found the responsibilities of an officer dull and tiresome. Out among the vast grasslands and rolling hills, he had found solitude, not loneliness; solace instead of restlessness. Now that he was free of the constraints of Army life, he prayed that freedom would be enough to exorcise the demons of Ash Hollow.
After a hurried midday meal taken under the slight shade of an eroded hillside, Mulder set Ghost back on the trail. He’d glance down at the trail every now and again to try to decipher the signs of those who had passed before him. Newer wheel tracks and fresh ox dung told him that a wagon had passed by not long ago. Probably the same party that had stopped over at the fort a few days prior. What’s more, he noticed, leaning over in his saddle for a better look, riders - three, perhaps four - had also used the trail after the wagon. The tell-tale U-shaped prints told him that the riders were white; Indians didn’t shod their horses, instead switching out mounts so as not to tire or injure them.
After a few miles, he crested a hill. What he saw on the other side caused him to immediately drew up on the reins to bring Ghost to a halt. He jumped down and pulled Ghost back down the hill until he was out of sight, then drawing his revolver, slowly crawled back to the top.
At the foot of the hill on the other side stood the wagon he’d seen pass through the fort; its contents were scattered on the ground nearby. The four oxen, still yoked, lay dead. He could detect no movement, no other signs of life. Carefully, he made his way down the hill to cart, using the tall grass as cover until he reached the cart. Mulder noticed arrows scattered about the ground, but curiously, they all faced in different directions, as if someone had haphazardly tossed a quiverfull up in the air and let them fall. Even odder: the oxen had all been shot by a small caliber pistol - not the firearm of choice by Plains Tribes, who much preferred rifles.
It took him a moment to notice the two bodies amid the tall grass. A bald, older man lay beside a younger, pimple-faced boy. Both had been shot and both, he saw with a sickening twist in his stomach, had been scalped. Whoever had done the scalping had botched it on the older man; his scalp was still partially attached to his skull. With rising dread, he frantically looked about for the woman he knew belonged to the the party - the woman with whom he briefly exchanged courtesies outside of Frohike’s.
As if in reply, a woman’s scream shattered the expansive stillness of the prairie. Mulder drew his revolver and sprinted down a small ravine in the direction of the scream.
Two men stood close together, laughing and cheering as they watched a third man struggling with something on the ground. The men were shirtless, their faces and chests painted in red and black paint. At first, Mulder took them for Indians, then one of them spoke.
“Come here and hold her down,” the man on the ground yelled in English. “She’s a feisty one.”
Mulder stiffened at the familiar voice of Sergeant Krycek. He squinted at the other men; beneath the copious red and black face paint, he recognized Private Colton and Corporal Kersh. Like Krycek, the two men had a poor reputation among the Kearney detachment: he recalled Colton had once been confined to quarters on bread and water rations for a month for attempting to steal a milk cow from an emigrant family passing through the fort.
“As long as you leave some of her for me,” Colton answered with a leer. He bent down and grabbed the woman’s arms, pulling them roughly above her head. Krycek paused to unbutton his trousers, leaving just enough opportunity for the woman to deliver a well-placed kick to his face; he fell hard on his ass, raising a laugh from Colton and the other soldier.
“Bitch!” he said, spitting out a mouthful of blood and stumbling to his feet. “You’ll wish I killed you with your father and brother, before I’m done with you.”
Krycek had barely taken a step forward before Mulder fired. The sergeant’s stomach suddenly blossomed crimson, and he staggered backwards before dropping to the ground.
Colton let go of the woman and whirled to face Mulder, his gun drawn. Kersh managed to get a shot off at Mulder; he winced at the sudden, searing pain in his left arm.
Before Kersh could fire again, another shot rang out, and he collapsed. Colton, confused, glanced down at the corporal. That bought Mulder just enough time to take aim at Colton. He fired. The private fell on top of Kersh.
Mulder ran over to the woman. She lay shaking, gasping on the ground. In her hands was Krycek’s revolver. Smoke curled upwards from the barrel. He helped her to her feet. She stared, shocked, at the weapon, then at the men who lay dead at her feet.
Before either could speak, a groan caused Mulder to turn away. Krycek was still alive; his breathing came in ragged gasps as he lay on the ground nearby, grasping at his bleeding stomach. Mulder stood over him. Krycek’s eyes focused on him and widened in recognition.
“Please, Captain, have mercy,” he said weakly between bloody coughs. “Have mercy.”
He was a dead man - it was only a matter of time before he succumbed to blood loss. But a gunshot wound to the stomach was painful, and often resulted in a slow death; anger rose within Mulder at all of the needless suffering and death this man had inflicted. He wanted to walk away and leave Krycek to a prolonged, agonizing demise.
Instead, Mulder pointed his gun at the sergeant. “The only mercy you’ll get from me is a quick death,” he said, his voice iron-edged, as he cocked the hammer with his thumb. Krycek whimpered. The air reverberated with the sharp crack of his Colt.
He holstered his gun and walked back to where the woman stood. Wordlessly, he took the revolver from her. She swayed, as if about to faint. He put a hand out to steady her. “Easy does it, ma’am.”
She didn’t fall, but instead took his hand in a tight, vice-like grip. He squeezed back, causing her to look up at him. Her eyes registered shock, surprise - and fear.
“It’s alright, ma’am,” he said gently. “You’re safe.”
Her eyes focused on him as if truly seeing him for the first time. She took several deep breaths in an attempt to calm herself. He felt her hand slip from his.
“I must bury my father and brother,” she said, composing herself. Her face, although tear-stained and smeared with dirt, was set with a firmness and resolve that surprised him.
“Allow me to pay my respects by assisting you,” he said.
She hesitated, as if unsure whether to trust him, but presently gave brief nod of assent. Without speaking, she turned and headed in the direction of the cart and her dead kin.
Mulder picked up the dead men’s weapons and followed. Behind them, the shirtless, painted bodies of the soldiers lay staring upwards at the expansive sky.

Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic (My Review)
Wednesday June 14th, 7pm, English Dub
For those who have not yet seen the movie, I would advise to... PROCEED WITH CAUTION! THIS FOLLOWING POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!! (Fyi, I have not yet read much of the manga... b/c there they don’t have much copies around here *sad face*, but I am well aware that this film is the adaption of the ‘Luxury Liner Arc’)
= I flipping squealed and clapped excitedly the second I saw Sebastian and heard his english dub voice. Again, I LUV J. Michael Tatum’s Sebastian voice. *internally fangirling like crazy*
= My friend was spazzing out in confusion about Tanaka’s super deformed form. Did Koukai seriously forget? Lolz. Boy did I have to re-explain it to him.
= Hello again Rau and Ran-mao. Such a shame this was the only moment we get to see you two in the film.
= Lol, Ciel’s reaction/response to Sebastian wearing a doctor/medial outfit. Really interesting to see Sebastian wearing anything else other than his usual butler uniform. Regardless, he is still ‘one hell of a [hawt] butler’.
= Alexis Leon Midford cheek rubbing and hugging Ciel Phantomhive. FUNNY AND ADORABLE AT THE SAME TIME!
= Edward Midford “Mc Sourpuss”. I can somewhat understand the typical big brother overprotecting a younger sister, but why can’t you be happy for your sister?! At least their father approves of Ciel.
= Sebastian’s slick back hair. One word:... HAWT!!
= Charles Grey referencing Sebastian’s “death” from Book of Murder pt 1 & 2/Phantomhive Manor Murders Arc.
= Ciel in blonde wig... Cute. Sebastian wearing a ponytail... GAUD DAYUM SEXEH!!!
= “We are phoenixes!!”. Ahhaahaa!! Ciel’s reaction is PRICELESS!! [Woah never expected to hear added content of Ciel’s thoughts. Nice]
= Aleister and Ciel’s interaction! *bursting into laughter with Kouhai and audience*
= The entire Aurora society doing the Phoenix Dance pose. Aww darn, where is Ciel’s reaction where you need it?!?!! XD Lolz.
= Undertaker why are you hiding behind the machine...and smiling. What are you up to? [FORESHADOWING]
= Gotta love Snake feeding the snakes.
= Lost count to how many times the audience laughed everytime they hear Snake speaking out what the snakes are “saying”/hissing.
= Jesus! The soulless body ate Lizzie’s cake for Ciel?! RUN!!! [No joke, the sudden pan to seeing the corpse behind them nearly scared the SHEEEET outta me]
= Snake still calling Ciel “Smile”. Totes love the Book of Circus/Circus arc reference.
= Ronald casually rolling away on his lawnmower death scythe like its some sort of an electric scooter and Sebastian’s confused [yet sexy] facial expression. LOVE IT!
= Oh gaud dayum, the demonic growl/laugh Bassy made
= Ciel recalling back to when he first saw Sebastian in his demon form.
= Demon butler ONE, Corpses ZERO!
= Wait, did Sebastian inverted his blood covered gloves or did he have a spare in his pocket? Lol, he didn’t realize at first his gloves were soaked with blood after his fight against the group of corpses.
= Grell Sutcliff enters the scene. *cue audience and self squealing in excitement. also, insert Kouhai looks at me with a WTF look on his face*
= Grell and Ronald TITANIC MOMENT!! *cue audience and self bursting into uncontrollable laughter* AHHAHAHAHA!!!! Can’t breathe! I’m dying! Is GrellxRonald canon now?! XD lolz. THIS IS FAUKIN’ COMEDY GOLD RIGHT THERE!! CLASSIC!!!! Grell I understand, but Ronald?! BWAHHAHAA!!!
= Elizabeth, darling, I love you to pieces but please quit worrying about your dress. This is a matter of life and death--oh nevermind, she realizes her action. Still is one of my favorite female characters in the Black Butler series.
= Partly unbuttoned soaking wet shirt Sebastian. *intense fangasming* [to self: AWW DAYUM BABEH!!! I would love to have you in bed with me, LMFAO <3] Kouhai: SHIELD YOURSELF! *attempts to cover my eyes but fails. I bat him away, lolz*
= “Mr. Sutcliff--” Ronald totally confirmed to the audience that Grell is definitely a male.
= Dayum Lizzie! You got some mad fencing skills. 360 NO SCOPE BEECHES! No seriosly! She goes full on ninja on these corpses with ease. Running along the walls and ceiling. GAUD DAYUM! Fave BB female character for sure (tied with Mey-rin, of course).
= AWW!! Elizabeth’s thoughts of self and memories of Ciel is soo heartfelt touching! Elizabeth feeling different than the other girls because of her amazing fencing skills. She is worried about what young Ciel said regarding his dislike towards strong female. OUCH! Right in the feels! And holding her true self back just for Ciel’s sake!
= For some reason, young Charles Phipps almost sounded a bit more closely to Sebastian. Maybe that’s just me.
= Present day Ciel doesn’t care about that anymore Lizzie, especially since he said that he said that was a long time and finds no reason to feel mad at her for recently saving their lives. AWW!! I seriously ship CielxLizzie (it is but one of many of my favorite BB ships)!! Kouhai: Sorry I don’t have a tissue [LMFAO! I wasn’t literally crying!]
= Sebastian laughing. I repeat! Sebastian is LAUGHING! And blushing?! HE IS BLUSHING!?! SEBASTIAN MICHAELIS IS COVERING HIS MOUTH AND LAUGHING WITH A TINY BIT FLUSH OF RED ON HIS FACE PEOPLE!!! *nosebleed* *audience laughter*
= Ciel totally calling Sebastian out to stop it with the laughing. That doesn’t mean you can stop US from laughing now does it, LOLZ.
= Sebastian, Ciel, Grell, and Ronald’s response to Aleister making them reenact his version of the Phoenix pose. *audience roaring laughter* First it was like ‘no, don’t kill him’, then later... ‘skrew dat, let’s just kill him’. LMFAO.
= HAHAHA!!! The Phoenix dance pose, Aleister Chamber style!!
= CIEL’S REACTION TO DOING IT AGAIN!!! PRICELESS!!!
= HOLY SHEEET UNDERTAKER!! MAJOR PLOT TWIST!! DUN DUN DUNNNN~!!!!
= What the heck are the corpses standing around for? Undertaker is explaining his big reveal and those soulless bodies aren’t attacking?!!
= Seriously Grell? Did you forget what happened in episode 18 of season 1 in Black Butler?
= Da heck! Added cinematic records... of Undertaker wearing a fake mustache!?! LMFAO!!
= THE ORIGINAL DEATH SCYTHE?!?! Love the design!
= Sebastian reaching out to grab Ciel’s hand scene...dead silent. Random audience member: “Why is it quiet?” *audience laughs* [to self: SHUDDUP! WE ALL KNOW WHAT’S ABOUT TO HAPPEN!]. *cue all the fangirls shrieking* Me: “NO!! BASSY!!!” [yes I cried that out loud].
= Sebastian’s demonic sounding voice. *nosebleed* They seriously need to use that more often if the series picks in 5 or 10 or more seasons.
= THIS is why many fans believe Sebastian looks closely similar to Ciel’s father.
= Did he originally have regretting second thoughts of forming a contract with a young “brat” who couldn’t remember where his burnt down manor was located? LMFAO.
= Food magically appearing on the table. *sarcasm* Totally not suspicious. Lol, even Ciel called Sebastian out on that.
= Sebastian teaching Ciel to be proper and adult like while Ciel “teaches” him how to be more like a butler... namely making better tasting tea and meals. Seriously love seeing the developmental progress between the two.
= Ciel pouring tea into Sebastian’s hand... as payback for slapping his hands with a stick (or whatever that thing is called, idk). My word!
= A quick few second glimpse of Sebastian’s bedroom!! Sitting at his desk and writing down his own thoughts about Ciel. *internal fangirl intensifies, lolz*
= Is Ciel having a nightmare? I wanna cuddle him soo badly.
= “One hell of a butler”. AHH HE SAID IT!! *nosebleed* I can die happy now...wait, no I can’t, need to watch the rest of the movie.
= Sebastian wincing from the pain. THE FEELS! My little heart can’t take much more of this!
= Uh oh! The luxury ship is sinking quickly now! Time to go everybody!
= Soulless corpses surviving the freezing cold ocean water. [Why do I feel a hint of “The Walking Dead” vibe]
= Sebastian Michaelis vs Horde of Corpses round 2! Liek a bauss!
= Bassy coughing and panting to his injury. AWW!! Poor baby! [Why do I feel so turned on by this?! Answer: b/c of my soft spot for physical or emotional vulnerability]
= What exactly is that thing Ciel took from Undertaker and why is it of much importance?
= Ciel telling Sebastian to rest when they return to the manor. Why do I feel the urging desire to see anime Sebastian ‘sleeping’ or laying down in his bed or something?
= Kouhai blurted out loud “To be continued!” [Lol]
= End of movie scene: WILLIAM!!! Picking up Grell and Ronald with his garden trimmer death scythe... then goes to berating them on their performance and beating the sense out of them, lol.
= Grell, you beautiful silly person you! Swooning over William the second you wake up! He just got hauled you out of the ocean water and you go falling back in once again?! LMFAO! [I don’t know about you guys, but I had a sudden “Notice me sempai!” “Denied!” feeling at the moment]
My Thoughts: Overall, the animation was utterly beautiful and soo well done. I seriously love the character design...obviously. There were boatloads of hilarious moments from start to finish, along with some heartfelt and tear jerker events particularly about Ciel and Elizabeth’s past memories. So far the only minor thing that bothered me was the mix of seeing both the 3D CGI animation with the 2D traditional hand-drawn animation. Being a visual-learner, I have become rather quick to notice the obvious difference between traditional 2D and cel shaded 3D animation. But that, however, DID NOT STOP ME from watching and enjoying the movie... and LOVING it to pieces. Oh, and additionally I’m a bit sad that it was a one day and one night time thing and only screened in very few theater locations. I understand how many Black Butler fan were sad that they will miss watching it because it was either far away from where they lived and/or were busy with other important matters to tend to such as jury duty, work, stuck in traffic, tending to family, etc. Not gonna lie, throughout majority of the movie my eyes were fixated on Sebastian whenever he was on screen. J. Michael Tatum voicing Sebastian just seriously made me fangasm (I’m obsessed, I know. But I can’t help myself. He’s HAWT!!!).
Rate: 100/10 [And yes I mean one hundred] It was amazing!! I LOVED IT TO BITS! Would so totally love to see it again, if possible. Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD (if it does)!
PS: OMG!! TOTALLY IRREVERENT BUT SOME ONE COSPLAYED AS EREN YEAGER!!

Review#5 Oct. 16, 2017 “Why must Fireflies die so young?”
Now, I know that this a tough topic and I may be put under fire because of my opinion on this film. Even though the only recent film I wrote about was IT, I love Studio Ghibli and I needed to write about at least one film from that company. This film though, it has a very large following worldwide. Don't get me wrong Studio Ghibli is a gem for being one of the big animation companies still creating film with traditional 2D animation to this day, even combining the two to make it beautiful.
This film, I honestly have only seen it once, and it was before I wrote this so it isn't a memory. SPOILER WARNING because I am reviewing, by the quote alone. Grave of the Fireflies.
Plot: The main characters Seita and his little sister Setsuko, surviving the firebombing in their home, the two orphans must live on in their own to survive. Until their death both at separate time. The film being smart and showing how they died as the two are already dead.
There really isn’t much to say because that is the entire film in a sentence or two. I would analyze, but it would take far too long.
Pros:
The design: I know, it’s Ghibli and it will always be beautiful. It’s true, but remember Studio’s Ghibli’s last film to use hand painted cells instead of on the computer was Princess Mononoke. It’s a beautiful design with the hand painted backgrounds helping to enhance the scenery. How they draw the people, they have the eyes bigger, I guess for me so the emotion of the character is seen more. After all the eyes are the gates to the soul.
The story: The story about a pair of siblings having to live in a war torn country is very clever, especially with them having to fend for themselves. It’s pretty good concept and the execution for our main characters remembering how they died is very intriguing as well.
Seita: I kind of understand how this character’s arc is going, he lost his mother in an air raid, his father’s whereabouts are unknown throughout the entire film, on top of that he has to raise his little sister who is only about three to four years old. He had to grow up at an age that many have to, not for him but his little sister.
The narration: The narrator, being the two children on their way home, is extremely well executed. Having no words but only actions as they go to each memory of how the heroes die, it’s something that not many films to this day are able to do.
The enemy: What can I say about it? Well, there is no real enemy regarding this film. Each person is put in a situation that there is no real enemy, just people fighting and trying to survive.
The music: I am a musical person, and  the music is a beautiful addition driving the story even more.
Cons:
Setsuko: I get it she is a little girl and some times they are meant to be annoying; however she is old enough to understand somethings and not be so stubborn.
Seita: HE LIED TO HIS LITTLE SISTER THE ENTIRE TIME. I understand that he needed to grow up so quickly especially after the death of his mother and his father, but there are ways to explain to a small child on the concept of death.
The extended family: The aunt is so rude, believe me I do understand that many people would be the same if there were able people not willing to help in a war, the main issue though, well she scolds them for not reason, even making them stop playing an instrument that was in their room when they moved in.
The plot: Yes the plot is awesome, the only issue I really have is the very beginning with Seita saying “September 21, 1945. That was the day I died.” in fact it may have had a better if the audience saw Seita die first then show his spirit.
The timing: It all took place in 1945, but all within the span of three months from June to September. I kind of understand why because medically it does take that much time.
Now I know that many have compared Grave of the Fireflies to Schindler’s List by being an anti-war film. I did research to find that it’s an autobiographical book by the author Nosaka, where he lost his sister due to malnutrition in 1945. And in the book it’s an apology due to him blaming himself for his sister’s death, not only that but it was also to make amends and help him accept the tragedy.
Personally I thought the movie wasn’t as great as others say, I think of it as a good movie. It is a very emotional piece of art where it doesn’t matter whether in a war or even if it’s just an average day. It is a beautiful piece and yet it as a whole indeed has some things missing.
Personally for me I give the move an 8/10, I know some will give more but this is how I see it. I recommend this movie so much, but for me I guess only as a movie to see one time.
I’m Arry and next time I’ll write about 2004′s Van Helsing. Happy movie watching!
