just thinkin about Margo Madison defining her whole life by her work and NASA but no longer having either
thinkin about her being even more lonely than before, the ultimate consequence of trying to have relationships and protect those she loves.
thinkin about Hannah Arendt writing 'What makes loneliness so unbearable is the loss of ones own self which can be realised in solitude, but confirmed in its identity only by the trusting and trustworthy company of my equals'
thinkin about her living as 'Margaret Reynolds' and Lenara probably being the only person she knows in Russia who still calls her Margo but Lenara clearly not wanting anything to do with her
thinkin about her having Stephen King and a piano and reading while brushing her teeth and tapping that conversion chart except it's crap Stephen King and her wrist is injured and she's reading in Russian and the conversion chart is peeling and curling at the edges. connections to the past but unhappy transformation
thinkin about her swapping the Russian pastries for a Big Mac after being turned away at Roscosmos
thinkin about her being given an opportunity to do something for herself but it clearly having political (and probably ethical) catches
that Hannah Arendt quote is in the context of discussing loneliness as a tool for supporting and propogating totalitarianism and the regimes of the mid-20th century.
Margo's story has always been about her relationship to the state and nationalism and its impact on her understanding of self and her view of morality. It is about identity in a world of ideology.
every system is corrupt.
she's both taken advantage of it and defined herself against it. yet she still can't escape the world forcing her to operate in that context. what does that mean for her in this directionless space, cut off from so much of what she would think made her herself?
