Beta kid hugs:

Jade gives really tight, bone-crushing hugs. She holds on to the people she's hugging as though if she lets go they'll disappear. Her hugs are desperate and strong, but at the same time warm and protective. It's like being hit with a truck built out of love and friendship and trust and longing.

Dave isn't very good at hugs, especially before the meteor. His hugs are clingy and awkward, but there's a level of trust there that cannot be ignored. The awkwardness never goes away, but it does become intentional after a while. He generally holds hugs just a little bit too long.

Rose doesn't like giving hugs. It's bad sensory for her. Instead of giving hugs, she prefers to lean up against the side of people she cares about and rest her head on their shoulder. When she does give hugs, though, they're quick and fleeting, but not nearly as awkward as Dave's hugs are. A quiet reminder that you're one of her people and she's there for you.

Jegbert gives the Best hugs. They aren't too tight, and they aren't too loose, and they give reassuring pats. They give huge less frequently than Jade, but they're no stranger to the concept of hugging. They seem to know just what kind of hug their friends need in any given moment, and it's almost like their friends are being wrapped up in a hold specifically formed to suit them.
