Athena kids are definitely the type to fight the teacher about their grade. They will gather evidence that their answer is technically correct and either impress or annoy the teacher so much they will actually change their grade

All Athena kids have a resting bitch face (just like Hermes kids have a face that says they're troublemakers)

Hermes kids are naturally skilled at orientation on a map and in terrain

Hephaestus and Hermes cabin have once held a lock-picking competition (based on speed but also the amount of damage caused)

For an absolutely nonexistent reason I think the Aphrodite cabin has some pro tip for washing blood out of clothes and stuff

Very stereotypical of me but in the Ares cabin, the strongest is the leader and their word is law, if you disagree, you gotta participate in a one on one fight of choice (it doesn't matter that much if you win, at least you still prove your bravery and the courage to stand up for what you believe in). Meanwhile, the Athena cabin votes on everything. And yes, they are proud of it. And yes, they have senate level debates where everyone uses whatever dirt they have on the others to win (because they probably know too much gossip without even really intending to) sometimes. Only sometimes.

Also. They have ostrakism which is basically a thing where you break a pot/vase/something, each person gets a piece and carves on the name of someone who is endangering democracy in their option. The person with the most votes gets chased out I think. Athena kids have changed up that part, they simply ban that person from voting for 6 months.

Athena kids with learning disorders. That's all I want to say.

Also Athena kids are the people who will point out historical stuff behind the names of places or companies (example: my country has a shopping centre called palladium, i instill the lore of the original palladium on anyone unfortunate enough to be there with me)

Apollo kids personalise their instruments - stickers, paint, carved initials, cool straps and other accessories, you name it!

I know he’s multifaceted and a nerd isn’t automatically a child of Athens but it’s the fact he loves learning and collecting PHD’s just for fun

he values wisdom and intellect so much I’m sure he’d marry it if he could.

I also just associate this brand of person with awkwardness/social ineptitude. Because things are obvious and clear to them they sometimes forget to factor in the emotional consequences or implications of certain things.

also he has a massive vocabulary and can describe any emotion to you but he cannot recognise when he’s feeling them

a difference between them is that I think she tries to shove down her emotions because she sees them as pesky and inconvenient, rather than not feeling them

i'm focusing less on the medicine side of things and more the creativity because look at her

and in the Riordanverse Apollo is portrayed as... idealistic rather than predatory when it comes to love which i think lends itself well to Penelope's borderline toxic positivity and her insistence on seeing the good in people

she can be seen as obnoxious and loud (never to me though) and most definitely had a theatre kid phase, all of which i think goes hand in hand with being a child of Apollo

CABIN NINE - HEPHAESTUS

i'll be honest i don't remember Stephen that well so if this is wrong my bad king

as far as i remember he was perfectly nice if not a little solitary and was pulled in especially since he fit a specific need for finding scratch, like he was a specific part of the blue print?

other than being absolutely g o r g e o u s

i feel like she has a lot of passion and drive but it's shown in a more subtle way and she likes to hide it with her intellect

i also think importantly she enjoys her femininity in a way that say Penelope or JJ don't (not to say those two aren't feminine, they just don't connect with it like tara does?). she's very much 'wears a stilleto to stab you with it' kind of woman, even if she doesn't express that as much

i also think she can be quite emotionally constipated in relationships and such in a way a child of Aphrodite might be because they're used to the flirting and chasing but then don't know how to maintain the relationship

Ashley Seaver

once again don't remember much about this queen but she is stunning

i feel like it's a very child of Aphrodite experience to be looked over and dismissed because of their looks and the two main things discussed with Seaver is that she's pretty and her dad is who he is

she is also very Piper coded in that she resents that femininity and the pigeon hole it puts her in and wants to be recognised for her own merits and achievements rather than her looks.

Piper and Ashley also both have famous dads, albeit for different reasons

CABIN ELEVEN - HERMES

she is a nomad!!! she doesn't stay in the same place for too long!!!

while i am obsessed with the woman she is very adept at trickery and bending the truth, something children of Hermes are good at too

Grain Brain (Son of Demeter!Reader Headcanons)

Requested by @acoustickitten - another incredible requester - for a Son of Demeter with the relationship at my discretion.

Thanks for this one, I feel like there’s so little PJO reader-insert content for males! Anyway, I couldn’t decide, so the first part will be what life is like for a son of Demeter, and the second part will be the relationships, with Luke Castellan (for angst lovers), Will Solace (for the fluffy ones), and Percy Jackson (for a mixed bag). Hope you enjoy!

So, you’re a half-blood. 

Children of Demeter are often have it the worst: theoretically, they are the only demigod grandchildren of Kronos hopping along out there: Hestia is an eternal maiden. Hera doesn’t cheat. The Big Three has only had a few slip-ups since their big oath after WWII. Demeter’s the only child of Rhea out there still... producing demigod children. 

And your cabin might be the most ridiculed after Aphrodite and Dionysus in terms of combat usefulness.

The general insult for a Demeter kid is Grain Brain. Grain is such a rhymeable word that Cabin Four has been the result of many a scathing limerick from the Apollo Cabin.

But in the future, all those people will look at you as the counterexample.

Sure, Athena and Ares may have superiority in battle tactics and strength. Hermes might be sneaky and crafty and wordy. Apollo might have a huge number of seemingly-unrelated skills. Hephestus might have craftsmanship.

But you have... agriculture?

Woe betide anyone who underestimates the power of Demeter. Like Dionysus’ children, Cabin Four kids may develop some level of control over plants, specifically, anything cultivated. 

The dryads are okay with you, but the dryads connected to fruit-bearing trees practically worship you, calling you my lord. 

And especially powerful children of Demeter have some minor weather control ability. Demeter once stopped the entire world from getting any weather but scorching sun to hold it hostage for her daughter to be returned. Her children can access this power too.

Make a powerful child of Demeter angry? Clouds part, and the sun heats up like a thousand degrees, as concentrated rays of heat bake the opponent. It can even cross Camp Half-Blood’s magical weather shield.

Another thing Demeter kids have power over is food.

A Demeter kid can curse someone else with excessive hunger, or bless someone to be able to go without food indefinitely. They can also make anything taste like anything else. 

They are also often enlisted, along with the Dionysus kids, to help boost the strawberry harvest.

The berries go crazy for Hilary Duff, but early Justin Bieber and Cheetah Girls makes them bananas. So you have to choose the lesser of all evils, because these songs do NOT sound good from a satyr’s pipes.

I feel like a Demeter kid shares some healing with Apollo kids, but can only mainly heal exhaustion, dehydration, anything relating to malnourishment.

Demeter kids can eat whatever they want. 

Demeter Chrysaoros was the Lady of the Golden Sword, so don’t tell me Demeter kids can’t fight just as well as anyone else. Demeter’s sword was also made out of part of Kronos’ scythe, so she is powerful.

You are the most powerful son of Demeter in thousands of years. You might be the most powerful child of Demeter since Persephone.

You are the head counselor of Cabin Four, and you make sure everyone is hale and hearty.

Luke Castellan

Luke recognizes your power when he gets to Camp Half-Blood

And it strikes him as unfair that you might be just as powerful as Thalia, but since you weren’t a Big Three kid, you had to make your own way to camp - no seekers out looking for you.

So he and Annabeth adopt you into their little family.

Luke realizes he has fallen for you when he sees how much little Annabeth has taken a shine to you.

He’s known you for about a year when he sneaks out of Hermes cabin with a couple of smuggled Cokes and a Disney movie on cassette.

He asks you to sneak with him into the Big House. You watch the movie in the room usually reserved for the orientation video.

Your head leans on his shoulder because you are tired - it’s the middle of the night.

“Hey, uh, Y/N...”

“Mmm?”

“I really like - uh, this movie.” He can’t do it. He’s almost crying with frustration when he feels you kiss him on the cheek.

“I think I might love this movie.” You say hopefully.

Mr. D doesn’t sleep, and he’s right behind you. Shockingly, he doesn’t turn you both into dolphins, but instead ropes you into a late-night pinochle game with Chiron, who’s tail is in curlers for some reason.

It’s both the happiest and most embarrassing night in your life.

But from then on, you two are the “it” couple at camp.

You two become slightly distant after Luke’s quest, but you think it’s because he’s insecure over his new scar. There’s something missing when you two do seem to regain that lost ground.

When Percy comes to camp and beats Luke in a training duel, you congratulate him and boost his ego, telling him that everybody always ridiculed Demeter kids for not having any good talents, and that he can be good at whatever he chooses.

You are devastated when Luke betrays the gods.

He begs you to join him, but you refuse.

He kidnaps you aboard the Princess Andromeda, but you are rescued by Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson.

It was when you realized Luke was too far gone.

At the Battle of the Empire State Building, you yourself take on Kronos with all the might of your godly parent.

It’s not enough, and you are almost killed.

Luke takes back control for an instant, allowing you the chance to escape

Annabeth and you give the final blow together.

The last thing Luke sees is you.

And you know you will never meet again, not even in death, because Luke was always a pusher, and he’ll reincarnate to get to the Isles of the Blest.

Eventually you age out of Camp Half-Blood and travel the world, searching, hoping you can find happiness once more...

Will Solace

You two are the medicine couple

Feeling bad? Feeling blue? Visit Y/N and Will - odds are one of them will solve your problem.

You hang out with Will in the infirmary, handing out magical crackers that assist with healing.

During the Battle of the Labyrinth, your powers truly blossomed - you granted power to all the fruit-bearing dryads, allowing their trees to come to life and attack the opposing army. Will thought that was so cool - he brags about it every chance he gets.

You and Grover seal Hyperion into the tree during the Battle of the Empire State Building.

You and Will met during archery practice, because as an Apollo kid, he was booked to teach.

Among your numerous talents, archery is not.

You accidentally shoot him.

Although, the way you shot him was worthy of an Apollo kid - the arrow ricocheted off of like, thirteen different things before striking Will.

Not a good idea to have the best healer teach archery

But anyway, you felt so bad that you practically carried him to the Big House

And cried because you never wanted to hurt anyone

Especially not anyone as hot as Will

“Wait, what?”

“Oops.”

“Well, I think you might have to check for another wound.”

“What? Really?”

“Yup. I think you struck my heart with your arrow.”

They change the rule so that no two demigods from different cabins can be alone together because of you two.

You resolve this by camping in the woods overnight - the dryads have got your back.

Although a lot of them will try to steal Will from you, so I guess everything has its ups and downs.

Percy Jackson

At first, you were so annoyed by this sarcastic ball of insecurity.

He comes in here, insulting your godly heritage, making a mockery of all these camp activities, and then he met you

And his jaw drops open.

“Wow. Uh... who’s your godly parent?” he asks, almost in awe

“Demeter.”

He snickers. “The farming goddess?”

Yeah, that was pretty much one of the worst first impressions he could have made.

But he grew on you after a while. 

And you... he was gone from the moment you saw he had blue Coke and changed yours to match.

He takes you to meet his mom as soon as possible

And she automatically knows he’s in love because Sally Jackson always knows.

She approves because she sees how much you love him back.

The two of you just started being together one day - neither of you can really pinpoint an exact moment.

Just, somehow, you two held hands and it felt right, so you kept doing it.

And just like that, you were a couple.

Aphrodite once promised to make Percy’s love life interesting.

01 .  past .

   troye’s  like  was  everything  ordinary  half  a  year  ago .   well ,  as  ordinary  as  it  came .   she  had  an  older  brother   &   a  mother   &   they  lived  in  uptown ,   a  chicago  suburb .   there  wasn’t  much  talk  about  her  and  her  brother’s  fathers .   they’d  always  known  they  were  half  siblings ,   but  any  attempt  to  ask  their  mother  about  them ,   they  were  quickly  shut  down .   by  the  time  both  of  them  were  in  school ,   it  seemed  as  though  life  had  gotten  much  harder .   it  was  extremely  hard  for  them  to  focus ,   and  they  figured  the  dyslexia  was  a  trait  passed  down  by  their  mother .

   school  was  absolutely  difficult  for  troye .   she  wasn’t  interested  in  math  or  history   &   she  sure  as  hell  struggled  in  most  active  parts  of  her  schooling .   however ,   in  music  class ,   it  was  almost  as  if  the  music  moved  her ,   she  swayed  and  felt  the  notes  in  her  bones .   almost  as  if  listening  to  music  gave  her  the  energy  to  survive  a  strenuous  day .   as  she  went  through  school ,   making  her  do  her  homework  was  like  pulling  teeth ,   but  place  a  guitar  in  her  hand  and  she’d  go  on  for  days .

   as  for  her  mother ,   she  was  gone  quite  a  bit .   she  was  raising  two  children  on  her  own   &   had  to  provide  for  them  as  well  as  her  elderly  mother .   so  when  troye  was  not  struggling  through  school ,   she  was  typically  playing  music  for  her  grandmother  and  doing  other  adult  /   motherly  things  around  the  house .   by  the  time  she  was  twelve ,   she  could  have  been  classified   as  a  master  chef .

   only  six  months  ago  did  she  notice  an  extreme   (  what  she  thought  was  a  change  )   in  behavior .   she  had  barely  graduated  high  school   &   college  wasn’t  exactly  something  she  desired  to  complete .   instead ,   she  spent  her  time  volunteering  at  a  children’s  home  when  her  mother  and  brother  were  off  working .   she  took  her  grandmother  with  her ,   and  would  sing  songs  and  tell  stories  and  help  them  with  all  things  she  was  confident  in   ––   poetry  &  music .   however ,  one  incident  occurred  with  a  child .   unknowingly ,   she  held  the  child  and  began  to  sing .   when  the  child’s  scrapes  and  bruises  were  completely  gone ,   she  truthfully  didn’t  know  what  to  think .

   that  night ,   she  confronted  her  mother  with  her  new  found  knowledge .   it  was  only  then  that  she’d  come  forward  with  the  truth .   troye  was  a  demi  god   &   her  father  was  apollo .   troye  had  less  than  three  months  to  handle  this  new  found  knowledge  and  research  and  read  things  about  her  father  before  she  was  claimed  by  him   &   started  attending  camp .   as  a  new  camper ,   she  has  no  idea  what  she’s  getting  herself  into .

02 .  present .

  it’s  been  three  months  jam  packed  with  learning  the  knowledge  of  demi  gods   &   learning  of  the  issues  that  camp  half  blood  held .   it  seemed  obvious  to  her   ––   being  all  inclusive  was  only  fair   ––   besides ,   why  wish  troubles  on  those  just  because  you  dealt  with  them ?   she’d  never  blinked  at  the  possibility  that  not  everyone  she  be  treated  fairly .

   over  the  last  three  months ,   troye  has  been  working  on  learning  about  her  gifts  that  she  didn’t  know  about  before   (  or  didn’t  make  a  connection  to  )   she  realized  she  was  a  demi  god .   she  focused  on  the  medicine  aspect  of  her  powers   as  well  as  further  into  the  explanation  as  to  how  she  was  able  to  heal  that  child .   also ,  very  recently ,   she’s  taken  up  archery ,   and  discovering  her  gifts  with  that .   despite  never  really  being  an  active  child  and  rather  a  creative  mind ,   she  has  chosen  to  take  all  of  her  gifts  and  run  with  them ,   to  excel  and  express  herself  through  all  of  them .

03 .  personality .

   the  best  way  to  describe  her  personality  is  through  the  song  maria  maria  by  carlos  santana .   she  would  happily  give  the  clothes  off  her  back  for  anyone  she  passed  and  has  spent  the  past  twenty - two  years  of  her  life  doing  just  that .   she’d  rather  spend  her  entire  life  volunteering  and  helping  other’s  than  get  an  ounce  of  credit  for  anything  she’s  done .

   still ,   at  camp  half  blood ,   she  is  overly  protective  and  mother  like  to  anyone  she’s  met  so  far .   kind ,   down  to  earth ,   and  gentle  seem  to  be  the  most  common  phrases  people  use  to  describe  her .   fighting  is  not  her  specialty  and  something  she  definitely  does  not  excel  in  at  camp  half  blood  but  she’s  determined  to  work  on  it .   despite  her  gentle  spirit ,   being  upbeat  is  not  really  her  style .   she  is  more  of  the  type  to  have  a  soft  spoken  voice  and  only  say  what  needs  to  be  said  rather  than  filing  awkward  silences  with  words .

04 .  instances  of  her  powers  in  every  day  life .

looking  back  on  it  and  knowing  the  truth ,   troye  can’t  picture  how  she  didn’t  put  it  together :

   archery  expertise   –––   this  was  the  last  puzzle  piece  she  put  together .   it  wasn’t  exactly  an  archery  past  that  she  remembered ,   but  more  so  how  great  she’s  been  at  darts  her  whole  life .   they  had  a  dart  board  in  her  house  for  a  short  amount  of  time .   (   a  boyfriend  of  her  mother’s  had  moved  in  and  it  was  something  he  enjoyed   )  .   she’d  never  lost  when  they  played ,   and  looking  back  now  her  expertise  in  aim  definitely  aided  that .    vitakinesis   –––   this  was  described  in  an  above  section .    audiokinesis   –––   this  was  more  of  an  internal  thing  than  external .   any  songs  she  heard ,   she  could  manipulate  them  in  her  thoughts .   until  she  got  to  camp  half  blood ,   she  was  sure  that  everyone  could  do  it .   it  was  her  own  way  of  basically  remixing  songs  in  her  head ,   and  being  able  to  completely  replicate  them  the  second  she  picked  up  an  instrument .       excelling  in  the  arts   –––   the  biggest  give  away  for  this  is  the  fact  that  she  has  had  perfect  pitch  since  she  was  a  baby .   she  can  know  any  note  that  is  spoken  or  sang  the  instant  it  flows  from  one’s  mouth .

05 .  wanted  connections .

she  has  not  been  at  camp  long ,   but  disliking  her  isn’t  really  common ?   so  i’d  suspect  she  has  quite  a  bit  of  friends  as  well  as  those  that  might  share  her  interests .   she  also  loves  helping  so  if  your  muse  is  at  all  interested  in  music  or  needs  help  in  any  way ,   she  would  love  to  assist .   i  would  also  love  if  she  had  someone  assigned  to  her  to  help  train  her  to  fight  /   teach  her  aggression ?   that’s  not  really  something  that  comes  easily  to  her .   because  she’s  new ,   she  doesn’t  have  as  many  past  relationships ,  but  i  would  imagine  her  having  a  fwb  but  the  benefit  is  friendship  sorta  thing ?   she’s  a  dweeb ,  n  e  ways .

𝟎𝟎𝟐  .  𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘

     nazareth was born and raised in chicago , illinois . his mother had him while still in college , much to her parents’ dismay . however , she was incredibly hard working & wanted to give her son the life he deserved . even though the young mother graduated with honors , her degree in marketing could only get her so far . while she got an unpaid internship at a company in the city just a few blocks away from the family’s tiny apartment , she also had to work as a waitress just to pay rent & keep food in nazareth’s mouth . 

     a few years passed & naz’s mother had moved up enough in the company to be able to quit her job at the local diner . she had met a woman at work who was suddenly spending a lot of time at the songs’ rundown apartment & sometimes naz would even catch his mother dancing around the kitchen to her favorite michael jackson songs . however , as things were looking up for his mom , nazareth was struggling at school . every single class was unbelievably hard for him to understand & the poor boy stuck out like a sore thumb when he was around other kids his age . he was lanky & awkward , but also gave off a weird , brooding energy that did not match any of the other kids . which would have been fine if that meant he would be left alone ! but kids are mean , and that instead meant that he would be frequently exposed to their ruthless torment . 

     this behavior carried on through the entirety of nazareth’s time in the public school system . there wasn’t much he could do about it besides weather the storm & return home to his mother’s warm hugs every day . luckily , nazareth’s mother never mentioned his father or the existence of demigods. this total ignorance brought him safety from monsters for most of his life . however , things started to change when the boy was around eleven years old . nazareth began to see spirits floating amongst regular people . they looked just like everyone else , but there was a heaviness hanging onto their forms as they breezed about . they would hear him if he called out to them , but wouldn’t usually take the time to stop & answer his questions . naz didn’t even like to think of the flames that would flicker at him palms for just a split second when he would get angry . all of these occurrences scared him , quite frankly . 

     finally , nazareth told his mother about all of the odd things that had been happening to him . with a forlorn look on her face & no further words spoken between them , naz’s mother began shoving as many things as she could into one large suitcase . within the next thirty minutes , the two of them were in a car headed to a place his mother called “ camp half-blood ” where the boy would be safe . nazareth continued to ask “ safe from what , mom ? ” but no answer came . she couldn’t bring herself to tell him . 

𝟎𝟎𝟑  .  𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐏  𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐅  -  𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃

     nazareth got to camp half - blood when he was just eleven years old . however , he wasn’t claimed until he was fifteen years old . the little boy was lumped in with the hermes cabin for four - almost five - years until his father finally claimed him . as thrilled as naz was to be detached from the large number of campers who inhabited the hermes cabin , he still held a great deal of anger towards his father for taking so damn long to claim him . what was the fucking hold up ? he still isn’t sure to this day & continues to hold a little resentment at all times . but he rarely mentions it .  (  partially because he rarely speaks  )  

     now , with this whole conflict about claiming & cabins , nazareth tries to stay out of it as much as possible . if you ask him about it , good luck getting a straight answer out of him . he switches up what he says every time , just to get a reaction out of whoever he is talking to . nazareth knows too that if he actually gets into a conversation about the whole ordeal , his temper will act up & that isn’t good for anyone . 

𝟎𝟎𝟒  .  𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘

     nazareth is anything but a people person . he doesn’t have good communication skills & doesn’t care to have them . he is severely sarcastic & does not care if he hurts your feelings . he is incredibly independent - almost to the point of being overly self - involved . it is extremely rare for him to genuinely care about others simply because how does caring about other people benefit him in any way ? quite honestly , he’s also a little weird . queue that ‘ i’m a weirdo ’ monologue by local Edgelord Fool Jughead Jones . idk man ... just ... good fuckin luck charlie . he’s annoying !
