i think my favorite art is music because of how it enhances other art. because of how it can make or break a movie, how it can turn even the slightest thing in a tv show into something iconic, how it can make something funnier than a spoken or written word would ever be by itself. how it can make something stick in your heart even when your mind forgot some of it. some of our most legendary (and funniest) memes are music-based. video games have so many wonderful things going for them and yet it is a small musical cue or a whole musical score that has a HUGE impact. i will never get tired of how people have used music to enhance other art. sondheim turned a PAINTING into a musical. star wars wouldn’t have reached the cultural impact it has without john williams score elevating it from campy scifi movie to magic on screen. the rickroll will ALWAYS be funny. anime as a medium has always been shaped by its budget and time limitations and so the anime opening and closing credits sequence to fill time became a mainstay of the genre and the music became ICONIC and set the tone for every show, and helped it stick in people’s hearts and minds worldwide. i could go on and on and on with so many examples but it always makes me so happy. we can’t make almost any art without music.
