Hey here are some calisto yew headcanons because I love her
- Acting is easier when it’s based on truth. Therefore, each of her personas incorporates a bit of her true personality. Calisto Yew’s laughter was based on her own generally flippant and silly attitude to life, meanwhile Shih-na incorporates her authoritative and calculating side. Though both have some of these elements
- She really likes dressing up and doing makeup. It’s an important part of her job, with all her disguises, but it also just makes her happy. Even before she was a spy, it was a hobby of hers and part of what led to her getting hired in the first place - her ability to completely change her appearance.
- She started working for the smuggling ring at 17. Her motivations for joining were that she was simply too smart for her own good - school was boring to her, and so when given an opportunity to put her skills to use, she jumped at the chance. The large sums of money payed weren’t a small factor either.
- Her and Badd were aunt and uncle figures to Kay respectively, before she was ordered to kill Byrne. She was kinda reluctant about it though, she’s not a huge fan of kids. However working closely with Byrne meant that you had to know Kay.
- Kay didn’t really like Calisto either. She thought she was really mean. She was still pretty devastated when she found out just who had killed her father though.
- Despite knowing she shouldn’t, Calisto got attached to and genuinely cared for Byrne and Badd. In the end, she did choose her job over them, killing Byrne with very little hesitation. That’s not to say she wasn’t affected by Byrne’s death: after that, she refused to let herself get attached to the people she worked with anymore, such as Lang.
- She could have shot kay if she wanted to - she was both fast and clever enough. But after seven years of running and pretending to be someone she wasn’t, she hesitated to take the shot. Lang took advantage of that moment of hesitation to catch her.
- Giving Kay her hairsticks was simply a matter of practicality: Shih na decided that if she was getting caught, the smuggling leader was going down with her. She had no loyalty to them, and knew that they had no loyalty towards her either. As well, she respects that Edgeworth and Kay were able to outsmart her, and offers up a clue as a sign of respect.
- she treats everything like a game: she was far too willing to admit to her crimes as soon as edgeworth even guessed she’d killed faraday, and then again let them catch her as shih na far too easily. When someone figures her schemes out, out of respect for the game and their intelligence, she confesses. She knows she can always escape anyway.
- in fact, she later escapes from prison.
- edgeworth brought kay to visit shih na in jail after she was arrested. Kay wanted to learn about her father, and Edgeworth was there for moral support. Shih na was generally frustrating and din’t tell. them anything of substance. However, it caused shih-na to reflect on her actions and her relationship with the original yatagarasu.
- after that visit, edgeworth convinced lang to go visit her. He did, though he was always very secretive about his visits, since that could cause Interpol to doubt him more. Lang wanted to try to rehabilitate her, and they had an argument about whether or not there was good in her. Lang maintained that their seven year friendship fighting crime together marks some good in her. Shih-na maintained that she had been ready to kill him at any time, so their friendship meant nothing, and the crime fighting was clearly a front. However, Lang kept visiting to try and rehabilitate her every time he was in town. They would usually argue over a game of chess. Shih na would never admit it, but she enjoyed his visits. Now that she was no longer working for the smuggling ring, she could allow herself to care about people. But she still kept Lang at arms length, always.
- badd refused to ever visit her, furious about her betrayal.
