• and even at that, they likely WOULD have had to interact during turnabout academy. simon was literally prosecuting the case. yes, klavier didn’t have an official investigation, but you’re telling me that they’re working on the same case without a single interaction???? frankly it’s just poor writing and they didn’t want to put in the effort to connect AJ’s narrative properly; which was an actual writing direction they had so why am i surprised.

• juxtaposition of older sibling situations; both in prison but for different reasons. i want to analyze this bit more but there’s something there

• sharing a narrative of healing from the ghosts of their pasts after DD :)

• both are incredibly melodramatic and theatrical in court. they’re on the same wavelength; and speaking just from a writer’s perspective, writing their interactions is some of the most fun i’ve had lol. if you’re curious, here’s my ao3 series containing all the fics i’ve written for them so far :)

• they also do have similar aesthetics in the sense that they both wear darker colors. klavier has a more grunge (?) / generally alternative (and like 70s-80s generic rockstar) style and simon… dresses like he’s from the victorian era yes (not counting the jinbaori) but he has more of a goth / emo vibe? i’m articulating this very poorly they both just look very well together. also men with long hair :)

sparknotes version: i think they have a lot of similarities and parallels and narratively, i believe it would make more sense for them to be together. part of it may also be wanting to connect the narratives of AJ and DD properly but idk. it just makes more sense, at least to me, in comparison to other pairings

Revisiting the sushang fight memory re-caps in chapter 27

So, not gonna give much backstory, Saying the least, I was looking at my last post of me guessing as to how fuhua could’ve only stayed in the form of garuda for less than 3 minutes. Something abt it felt, like it was lacking and tbf I made it on a whim with no regard as to even re-checking story.

so I did and I have a much better guess/theory as to why hua did not stay in the form long. Now here comes my main guess, and this is just a general thing as to why i think fuhuas so weak right now.

Her memories. stick with me on this one. lets try to define the term tesla uses, that fuhua lacks. Which is honkai energy profiency, the term profiency is defined as “ability” or “skill” so I think we could define that as a persons ability to manipulate honkai energy.

I know, we’ve been told huas excels at manipulating honkai energy, why would her memories effect this? Experience. Huas lack of memories, somewhat equate to a lack of experience. What do you think the herrscher of sentience uses, or whats the basis of her powers. FuHuas memories and experiences WITH weapons . What helps hua power up DURING the sushang fight, whatever experience she stil has from her sparce memories.

My Highlights from WWE Elimination Chamber & NJPW Battle in the Valley

So instead of my usual long-winded reviews I'm deciding on something else, just highlighting the stuff I like from the PPVs, in this case two on the same night

On one end we have matches like Jay White vs Eddie Kingston and Mercedes Moné vs KAIRI, and on the other you have Elimination Chambers and Sami vs Roman. Let's see what I liked

WWE Elimination Chamber

Starting with the easy one, Montreal's crowd was a huge plus, proper into it just like El Paso was last week on AEW's shows

Liv Morgan x Elimination Chambers, girl just loves some gnarly spots so you gotta appreciate the gusto. Liked the way she was eliminated too, even if I had hoped she'd be final two

KANA. Asuka is on yet another resurgence and she deserves it. Back to her roots, she once again proves to be the most viable opponent for the champions, and frankly I think she should beat Bianca (tbf I wanted Asuka vs Charlotte: the revenge so we could get Rhea vs Bianca but this way if okay too) so she can get a world title reign that doesn't get bullshitted over

FINALLY DOING THE HOLLYWOOD PARODIES

Dominik's ability to draw heat is great, he knows his role

Balor crossing from under the ring to sweep Edge

First off, I wouldn't personally wanna include Brine into the group and if it had to be 8, then just think of another to use, because while I obviously love Dadbrine, he is more of an op dad figure than a part of a group like Phantom Thieves. He's more of a Sojiro or Dojima, a fatherly supporting role.

Next, I get that Fox is maybe already taken, so idk for sure for Tails Doll and Exe, but they do slightly fit.

And also I don't think Grim Reaper fits Ben it has something too evil and cruel feeling, given Ben is more of a sweet pacifist than people let on. My first idea was that maybe since the leaders or a certain other character *coughs* Akechi my beloved *cough cough* are more based on literature or games or alike, I thought maybe something like "Peter Pan", considering Link from OoT or MM is based on Peter Pan and story beats can apply to Ben too.

However for Glitchy and Silver I would maybe switch. Because the name Ghost makes me think of the purple bug ghost from Pokemon and that was Gen 1, so fits more to Glitchy and Phoenix makes me think of Ho-Ho from Gen 2. Tho tbf, that can also go to Moltres. So another idea I had for Silver is maybe Hinezumi, Hinezumi is the fire rat from Japanese Mythology and there is some theorizing or hints that Cyndaguil and it's evolution lineage is based on it. Plus it's a mostly white rat/mouse with red spots/eyes. (Tho ngl, this makes me wanna have Ben be like Princess Kaguya or the Moon Rabbit, because Hinezumi is most likely known from the Princess Kaguya tale, and I can't stop my ship fuel or connections-) (I also considered maybe Silver's palast could be like Futaba's, cause the Unowns are meant to resemble Hieroglyphs, and where do you find Hieroglyphs? In pyramids.)

Again, I don't mean to say my ideas are necessarily better, these are my two cents on it all, I still love this idea, gives me some drawing inspirations, once I get to drawing and through my projects hehehehe

I too like the idea that you can work (hard) towards being a jedi (just like the original film told us) and thought the way Sabines arc showed that was beautiful I also quite enjoyed Star Wars showing someone struggling to access the force well and learning to work with it at their level rather than it just coming easy to them.

Also there is a lot of stuff in film canon (in *all* extended canon tbf) about a persons force sensitivities showing in lots of ways beyond the usual can move things with their minds and fight good stuff - like being a good pilot, being good at tech, or good at influence and persuasion, being 'lucky' (*cough* Han Solo *cough* *cough*) etc.

I would argue (and I could for an entire dissertation) that Sabine shows many (if not all) of those traits in the canon of both Rebels and Ahsoka way before we get to her being able to pull her lightsaber towards her or yeet Ezra.

I think her stunt riding under the E-Wing in ep.1 of Ahsoka hints at it as does all her vandalism, both artistic and explosive, and getting out of dire scrapes in Rebels (there's an argument to be made for her artistic ability being force assisted too - like coming up with *exactly* what was needed as a symbol in the rebel phoenix and especially in her ability to 'read' art and artefacts) her ability to get feral creatures to trust her is in there too - tho' it's not as prominent as Ezras obviously. (All of which doesn't even get into her ability to wield the Darksaber properly - one of the biggest signs of all.)

So I get annoyed when people say there was no sign that Sabine had jedi potential and that they hated her accessing the force in the Ahsoka finale.

Honestly I felt the same way when people wanged on moaning about Rey "suddenly' being able to use the force in TFA. I was like but we've seen that she inexplicably, for her situation, is good with tech (can understand BB8 immediately and fixed his antenna) similarly can pilot and is a good one - even before she touches Lukes lightsaber or gets scanned by Kylo Ren there is enough other stuff that showed she was force sensitive in the same way both Anakin and Luke were shown to be force sensitive in previous films.

Its always the same thing - an odd push back against female characters and the force, weirdly, most of all when they are written and presented exactly like male characters and the force.

I'm interested to see how this gets built on with Sabine going forward because Mandalorians and the force is clearly a subject that interests Faverau and Filoni so I'm sure people who think Sabine has 'ruined canon' are going to be upset for a while longer!

“Sabine being a Jedi ruins canon” no it literally doesn’t. Girl trained for TEN YEARS with Ahsoka and finally opened herself up to the force. Plus obi wan literally says in the first movie that the force is an energy field created by all living things. So everyone has the force in them, but most Jedi are typically “force sensitive” meaning it’s easier for them to tap into it. Savage oppress literally had never used the force before but after some training he learned to utilize it. Sabine using the force is very plausible and this is the hill I will die on

KJHFSDHJKFDS NO FR!!!! not sure what DGS stands for /gen but yes yes!!! the thing with me is I enjoy aa4 in a vacuum where I kind of don't think about the trilogy and it in the same breath bc yes they are connected obviously but there are some things that I like in aa4 that I like less when I consider it has to be related to trilogy (like to an extent, Phoenix's character) but that's just a me thing idk. i consume most media like that with smaller vacuums for each "group" (so I think of the last two AA games as being a 'duology' in my head, aa4 as a standalone, and the trilogy, and my brain has different thoughts to all of them if that makes sense/)

my main thoughts were "holy shit phoenix must have been feeling awful." like to learn that you were in love with a person who turned out to be a murderer but then not a murderer cuz everything you felt about that was real and just...... it must have hurt. He never fell in love with dahlia. it was iris, always. and WHAT ABOUT MILES DURING THIS!!! Like to learn that the man you love was falsely led to believe that he was in love with a person he rarely met and then learn that his ex who is not murderous might still be in love with him because "that was real. that part was real." like damn. people just gloss over this

GS4 vs AJ:AA - Episode 1, Part 1

Look, guys! I’m being productive again! Hooray, it feels exhausting just as I remember it did!

As done before, every post I make will contain differences between the source Japanese and localized English versions of the same game, as well as further details about them, up to the following “To be continued...” screens and eventually the ending credits. As always, there are so many ways the localization can dress up certain lines in the original script to make them into jokes or at least more colorful, so I’m not going to pick out every one. It would take us an eternity longer than my hiatuses to finish otherwise.

To think it took a freakin’ indie game that's like Mafia but with astronauts and tasks to bring me back to the Ace Attorney community and back to my blog’s roots. Is this what they mean by “Circle of Life”? All I know is that I’m constantly running around in circles, both metaphorically and literally.

Enter Apollo's signature "I'm fine!" catchphrase, or as it's originally known, "Daijobu desu!"

In the third box, "ウラ返ってる" from 裏返る (uragaeru) in this context is translated fairly, though it specifically refers to a "crack in falsetto" kind of squeak or screech. (Yes, squeaky Apollo.) Now, it's interesting to note uragaeru in a different context can also mean "to double-cross". To be fair, it's also a common phrase, like being "betrayed" by your own cracking voice, but the foreshadowing power...

In the fourth box, yes, they changed the name puns to suit the localized name. Kirihito (Kristoph) is just saying what a "surprise" it is for his first trial to be a murder case.

I want to comment on how catchy Apollo's other lesser-known catchphrase is. Poor Odoroki doesn't have anything as cool as this.

この王泥喜くんは、依頼人の ご指名なのですよ。 And my client specifically requested Mr. Justice.

<Judge> ふむう‥‥わかりません���。 Well, of course he wants justice!

現在、最高の弁護士と言われる 牙琉　霧人（がりゅうきりひと）。 But to entrust his case to this greenhorn... Why?

それをさしおいて、 こんなワカモノがねえ‥‥ I do not exaggerate when I say that you're the best defense attorney in town, Mr. Gavin.

<Apollo> （だ、大丈夫。発声練習の量なら、 　先生にも負けないさ！） (OK, so Gavin's got trial experience, fine. But does he have Chords of Steel!?)

I just love this line from Apollo. Perfect timing and delivery. Odoroki's line is good too, though comes off as a tad more innocent: "I-It's fine. When it comes to  vocal training, even Sensei can't beat me!" Though I have to say the image of Kristoph screaming during voice training is too funny to pass up.

<Judge> まことにザンネンです。 This is truly an unfortunate turn of events.

ひさしぶりの対面が、 このようなカタチになるとは。 I'm sorry we had to meet again under these circumstances.

‥‥成歩堂　龍一 （なるほどうりゅういち）くん。 Long time no see, Mr. Wright.

<Phoenix> 忘れてほしいですね、 ムカシのことは。 Let's put the past behind us, shall we?

今のぼくは‥‥そう。 しがないピアニスト、ですから。 These days, I'm merely Phoenix Wright, piano player.

I may have mentioned it before, but I'll make a note here that the Hobohodo meme has its own version in the JP fandom: "ピアニート" (piani-to or pia-NEET), which is portmanteau of pianist and NEET, the most famous of Japanese government welfare programs for the unemployed. It's also slang for "hobo".

<Payne> これが、被害者の命を奪った凶器。 ‥‥グレープジュースのボトルです。 This is the weapon that took the victim's life. A bottle of grape juice.

彼のお気に入りで、 いつも飲んでいるようですな。 Grape juice is apparently our defendant's drink of choice.

Many of you already know, but just in case: The localizers never censored Nick's fave drink. It was the JP devs who had to work with such censors back home, but eventually they just kept it as a running gag to put non-alcoholic fruit juices in fancy wine bottles. It wasn't until SoJ when the devs could get away with featuring a bit of alcohol. Their previous game was slapped with a CERO-C (15+) due to graphic images, so Eshiro and co. were pleasantly surprised to see SoJ get the classic CERO-B (12+) again.

Not to mention, very expensive high-quality fancy fruit juices do exist in Japan and can cost way more than your usual middle-grade wines. Japan and their fancy fruit culture and all. (I forget exactly, but I recall there were plenty of group pictures of the devs on their blogs and Twitters over the years where someone had gotten them fancy bottles of fruit juice as Christmas gifts. The memes live on.)

<Apollo> 先生が出るにはおよびません！ ここは、オレでじゅうぶんッ！ No need for help here, sir! I think I've got this one covered!

<Kristoph> ‥‥“手下”みたいなセリフだね。 大丈夫ですか？ I think you'd better do more than think. You know it, or you do not.

<Apollo> （大丈夫！　 　発声練習は積んできた！） (I'm fine! The Chords of Steel are ready for battle!)

The differences here are subtle enough that I hesitated on including this, but Kirihito straight-up calls out Odoroki: "Sensei, you won't need to step up here. I'm enough for this!" "...Sounds like something someone unreliable would say. Are you going to be fine?"

<Judge> ふむう‥‥ Hmm...

ポーカーといえば、５枚のカードで “役”を作って勝負するゲーム。 As I recall, in poker you make five-card "hands".

たしかに、イカサマが 起こりやすいのでしょう。 I can see how it would be easy to cheat.

<Phoenix> フッ‥‥ “役”を作るゲーム、ねえ‥‥ Heh... Yes. A game of "hands".

<Apollo> ‥‥？ ...?

Now that I find this dialogue again, it's even deeper than I'd ever thought. In both JP and EN, Phoenix's line works just as well as the other despite having different double entendres. In EN, he makes a pun between the poker hands and people's hands; while in JP, the term used is "yaku", which is normally used to refer to hands in a card/mahjong game, but in more general cases, it means "role" or "responsibility". Naturally, in this case, there are a lot of hands and roles being exchanged rather quickly.

This case is dang amazing and I regret forgetting so much of what made it spectacular.

<Phoenix> 賭けていたのは、ただひとつ。 おのれの“プライド”だけだよ。 The only thing at stake in our game... was pride itself.

<Judge> ほほう。 なんだか、カッコイイですな！ Ho ho! Well put, Mr. Wright.

私も“ポーカー”で ヒト勝負したくなってきました。 I've got a mind to play a hand of poker myself...

<Judge> あなたの“有罪”を賭けてッ！ The stakes: your fate!

<Apollo> （“ヒト勝負”感覚で 　決められてたまるかッ！） (Um... Can we get back to the trial now?)

For once, I'm gonna go with Odoroki's line as the cooler one: "(As if we're going to decide this trial like a game of "life-or-death"!)"

> 1st witness, before testimony

<Olga> 逆居　雅香（さかいまさか） ‥‥と申します。 My name... is Olga Orly.

レストラン《ボルハチ》で ウエイトレス‥‥していますの。 I am employed as waitress in Borscht Bowl Club restaurant.

<Judge> しかし‥‥なぜ、カメラを？ Then... why the camera?

<Olga> もちろん、《ボルハチ》ジマンの ボルシチもお運びいたします。 Of course, it is my pride to serve borscht that is naming restaurant.

でも、ワタシ。他にも、いろいろ サービスをいたしますのよ。 But I also perform -- how it is said? Other service.

Just making a note here on how well Olga's lines are written. They really make it obvious that she's "not a native speaker" (for now). While in EN, they just made her English a little broken, in JP, she speaks in a very stiff and formal Japanese, as she is a waitress, but also on the occasion can sound a little off to a native speaker without being broken, per se. She also has a distinct "watashi" among a few other common words that are written in katakana to show a sort of accent.

<Payne> さて、証人。 事件当時は、どこに‥‥？ Now, witness. Where were you at the time of the murder?

<Olga> ワタシ、あの部屋にいたんです。 ‥‥《ナラズモの間》。 I was in room. The Hydeout, we call it.

<Apollo> “ならずものま”？ Excuse me? The Hydeout?

<Olga> 伝説のギャング“ナラズモ”が タイホされたというお部屋。 It is room where famous gangster "Badgai" was arrested.

‥‥事件があった小部屋ですの。 Is room where murder took place.

<Apollo> なんだってェェェ！ Whaaaaat!?

<Olga> ‥‥そのビックリしたカオ、 ステキです。 Your look of utter surprise... It is lovely.

あとで法廷の前に 張り出しておきますので‥‥ I will post by courtroom door later for you!

Okay, everyone knows how bad/obvious/cringe the name puns can be in Khura'in or certain ones from AAI, but please, does anyone not remember "Badgai" here? (Tbf, I forgot too, so I'm not one to talk...)

Btw, his original name is "Narazumo", literally "ruffian", and it's completely in katakana, which makes me think it's a codename or alias. She also specifies that he was a "gangster", not yakuza as we'd assume. Japanese gangs are a bit closer to gangs that we know of in the West, especially that they're more known for foreign influence to their styles than the much more traditional yakuza.

Also, I'm disappointed there was no Odoroki pun here. Sure, she doesn't know him, so it wouldn't make sense, but still a missed opportunity. Also also, she actually talks to the rest of the court when she says "you", so she's selling photos of Apollo's freakout to everyone. Classy...

<Apollo> “ロケット”‥‥？ His "locket"...?

<Olga> あのお客さまにとっては 大切な“お守り”のようでした。 I believe it was good-luck charm, dah?

何度か握りしめながら、 勝負をされていましたから。 He gripped it many times as he played that night.

<Judge> なるほど‥‥大空へ飛び立つ チカラがみなぎるのでしょう。 Yes, he must have felt as though it might carry him to the moon and the stars!

なにしろ《ロケット》ですからな。 Though if it were small enough to fit around his neck, it wouldn't have much lift...

<Apollo> ‥‥あの。ちなみに “ロケット”というのは‥‥ Um... The defense would like a clarification: this is a locket we're talking about?

写真を入れたペンダントのコト、 なんですけどね。 I mean, a pendant with a picture in it, right? Not a "rocket"?

<Judge> 知ってます！ Of course! I knew that!

ロケットのカタチをした アレでしょう。 It was probably a pendant shaped like a rocket. That's why she called it that.

<Apollo> ちがいますよ！ カタチはカンケイないんです No, a locket's a locket! It doesn't matter what shape it is!

<Kristoph> ‥‥深追いしてはいけない。 それが、社会のルールです。 It's considered bad form to poke fun at the hard-of- hearing in our society.

<Apollo> （モヤモヤするなあ） (Hard of hearing, or hard of understanding?)

This entire conversation is just a joke on how "locket" and "rocket" are written the same way in Japanese, and I'm surprised how well it still works in English.

To clarify, Kirihito's line at the end is a bit different: "...Refraining from pursuing a line too far is a well-known rule in our society." "(Doesn't make me feel any better.)"

<Apollo> （ヤレヤレ‥‥ 　慎重すぎるんだよな、先生は） (There's such a thing as thinking too much...)

（イシバシを叩いて 　コワすタイプ？） (This horse is dead, let's stop beating it!)

<Kristoph> 聞こえてますよ、オドロキくん。 There's such a thing as thinking aloud too much, too.

It's conversations like this that make me wonder if characters can actually hear what the MC is saying/whispering or if they're breaking the 4th wall to hear their thoughts. Here, it's even more ambiguous in JP than the usual between Nick and Maya in prior games. Or are they suggesting that even when Apollo is thinking, he's still loud?

> After 2nd Witness Testimony, before cross-exam

<Judge> なるほど‥‥ Ah, how many times have I heard these words:

『むしゃくしゃしてやった。 　今は後悔している』‥‥ "I done it in a fit of anger, Yer Honor, and now I regret what I done".

‥‥の、パターンですな。 ...A common tale, but true.

<Apollo> （成歩堂さんは、ハッキリ言った。 　『７年間、負けたことがない』） (Methinks the judge watches too many old court movies.)

（‥‥この証言には、ゼッタイ 　“何か”あるはずだ！） (Mr. Wright said he hasn't lost in seven years, so this testimony must be wrong!)

I don't usually include entries for examples where the localizers dress up the text from the original, but this one here really bugs me. I'm not sure if it's a reference to some classic film or just a tip of the hat to classic American court drama movies in general.

If someone could help me pinpoint this one, please do.

<Apollo> チップについて、くわしく 話していただけますか？ Maybe you could explain a bit about these "chips"?

<Olga> そ。そう言われましても‥‥ E-Explain? What is there to be explained?

いつまで待っても‥‥ キップにはなりませんぞ！ They're not fish and chips, not a chip off the old block, not a motorcycle cop, not a...

Okay, the "motorcycle cop" bit got me. I swear this was a popculture reference (was it a song? It sounds so familiar), but I don't remember exactly where it was from! Someone plz help.

As for the original script, Auchi makes a silly pun. "[Poker] chips are [poker] chips. No matter how long you wait... they won't become tickets!" (chips = chippu, ticket = kippu)

<Apollo> ‥‥はあ。 ...Thanks.

（セッカクだ。 　なにか聞かないとソンだな） (Now that I've pressed her I'd better ask something...)

<Olga> “１０００点”と “１００点”の２種類。 Two types of chip: 100 points chip and 1,000 points chip.

おカネではございませんの。 It is not money, dah.

<Apollo> はいッ！ Sir!

<Kristoph> 今の証言‥‥ ちょっと、おもしろいですね。 Don't you find her comment... interesting?

As funny as that capitalist line is, it's not found in the source, sorry, guys. Her text in Japanese is very formal, so it takes an extra box just to complete her sentence.

Also, worth to note that Odoroki here mentions yen and dollars, but not rubles, despite the restaurant being Russian-themed. Whether it's writer oversight or just Odoroki being uncultured will remain a mystery.

Lastly, Apollo's last line here makes him seem quite confident, but in the original, he seems just as confused as ever. This is made clearer when Apollo later presses the new statement.

The subtleties of this joke conversation were lost in translation. After Apollo wastes time with that question, he grumbles to himself: "(Damn. Thanks to Garyu-sensei, I've made a fool of myself.)" "Odoroki-kun. Would you please not pin this embarassment on me?" "Huh! Me!?"

Damn, what a burn. Odoroki in the OG script simply went: "(...Knowing this judge, he could get even that wrong...)" which is a fair effort, but not a wildfire level of damage.

<Olga> そうですね。たしか‥‥ Dah, I believe so...

被害者���マが『イカサマだッ！』と 叫びましたの。それに対して‥‥ The victim, he shouts, "you are cheater!" and then...

“異議がある”というようなコトを 被告人さまが‥‥ ...the defendant shouts something like, "I have objection!"

<Payne> ‥‥出ましたな。 おトクイの《異議あり！》が。 Shouting objection, eh? Old habits are hard to break!

まったく‥‥ハッタリづくしの 人生ですからな。被告人は。 First he bluffed his way through the courtroom, now he bluffs his way through life!

<Apollo> しかし！　勝負の結果は、 成歩堂さんが“負けている”！ However! Mr. Wright lost the hand!

むしろ、アヤシイのは、 勝った被害者・浦伏さんでしょう！ That seems to cast the shadow of doubt on Mr. Smith!

<Olga> “イカサマをやった上、 　勝負にも負けた”‥‥ Humiliation from losing even when cheating...

そのクツジョクが、被告人の方の ココロに、火をつけたのですの。 That is what set fire to defendant's heart!

<Judge> ‥‥そして、火のついた 被告人は、どうしたのですかな？ So what did the flaming defendant do next?

Oh my God, as soon as I saw that "異議がある" (igi ga aru) my mind flashed back to those ridiculous Google Translated trailers of Gyakuten Saiban & Kenji on Nico Douga. Imagine if the devs at the time decided to play with Google Translate to see how "異議あり！" would look after switching it from Japanese to English and back. It would be one of the biggest brain plays by a game developer ever... which probably means it wasn't how it went, but it's fun to think about.

Anyway, I also like this snippet of dialogue for the judge's "flaming defendant", clearly alluding to "Phoenix" Wright. In JP, the bit about setting fire to his heart is just a common idiom in the first place, but who knows? “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney” had been selling fast in the West, so they could have been inspired.

<Apollo> 裁判長！　見てください！ 被害者のカードには、１枚‥‥ Your Honor! Look at this! One of the victim's cards...

ウラの色がちがうカードが まぎれこんでいますッ！ The back is a different color!

<Olga> そ。そんなバカなッ！ Th-That's impossible!

アタシがシカケたのは、 成歩堂のほうなのに‥‥ But I put that card in Wright's hand...

あッ！ Ack!

<Kristoph> ‥‥今、なんと言いましたか、証人。 ...What was that, Ms. Orly?

<Olga> い‥‥いえ‥‥その。 アタシ‥‥わ、私は、ええと‥‥ No... Ny-Nyet! Er, I merely said, eh... Dah, I have, eek!

It's at this point when Olga's cover is blown, and in JP, it's more obvious because she stammers between using "atashi" vs "watashi". It's not very common to hear beginner Japanese students refer to themselves as the cutesy "atashi", though one who's a bit more well versed in the language or in anime may pick up on it.

> After Phoenix takes over the court, select when the cards were swapped, select "Olga Orly" who swapped them

<Phoenix> たしかに、あのゲームでは赤・青の ２種類のカードを使っていた。 Mixing a card from the wrong deck... when the backs are different colors?

しかし‥‥逆居　雅香は、 カードを配っていた張本人。 Remember that you're talking about Olga Orly... She was the dealer.

‥‥そんなミスを すると思うかい？ Do you really think she would make such a novice mistake?

<Apollo> （まあ‥‥オレでも 　まちがわないだろうな） (Actually, I have trouble imagining even the judge making that mistake.)

It's this quiet moment between the two of them that really parallels with how Mia used to talk with Phoenix, and it's beautifully poetic. And I'd like to note that even Phoenix's speech pattern throughout this convo is quite reminiscent of how Mia talked, but with a bit of Phoenix's own style. Though in that last line, he could possibly have meant Mia, but more likely meant a certain someone with a similar power to Apollo. Ya'll know who I mean, (W)right?

The translation here is close enough, really, but Odoroki specifically describes it as the "intensity" of his voice and it's only the best answer.

How Would Arthur/Joker (you pick!💜) react to reader being anxious for therapy or appointments? I have my first therapy session today in seven years and I'm really nervous right now dhfjdn

Arthur 

Would be super proud of you for making that first step in booking a therapy appointment!!! 

He would be almost beside himself with pride, and every time you think that his genuine chuckles have died down, he would be forced to pull his cigarette away from his mouth so that he can laugh again. 

He’s really just so happy for you and so proud of you that he can’t do anything else. He knows how much bravery and courage can go into even the simplest of things, so he’s with you every single step of the way, no matter what.

He’ll even go with you to the appointments and stay in the waiting room while you’re in there. His hand will be tightly clutching yours right up until your name is called, and then he has to resist the urge to stand right outside the door, his knees bouncing a mile a minute. 

As you come out of the appointment, he’s almost tripping over himself in his haste to get to you, and though he wants to ask, he doesn’t, because he knows and he understands and he sees you. 

Really, he’ll do anything you need, whether or not you tell him, so well does he know you that most often are his educated guesses right.

“I’m so proud of you,” He tells you as you leave the building, pressing a kiss to the back of your hand. 

Arthur frowns as he says it, because his words aren’t enough, they aren’t, but you stop and you cup his cheek in your hand, your thumb soothing across his skin, and you kiss him in awe and in gratitude, and he understands, and he smiles.

Joker

Doesn’t resist any urge at all.

If he wants to stand outside the room where your appointment is taking place, he will. Who cares if he gets stared at or the cops are called? He’s quick on his feet and besides, he used to come here himself.

If he wants to smoke, so tense and nervous is he for you? He will. (Tbf, it’s the 80s so smoking inside was allowed anyway.) He’ll even offer the receptionist one.

If he wants to dance in the middle of the waiting room to expel some nervous energy? He will.

Joker is so, so proud of you and he loves you so much.

He’s very supportive and very protective of you, too, and if you don’t blend well with your therapist or they’re not very good at their job or if they pushed you too far or even if they aren’t quite what you need, he’ll do his absolute best to help you find another therapist (and tells you plainly to avoid his old one).

Joker still doesn’t ask how your session went; there’s always the ghost of the subjects you were only just able to touch on which can haunt you for hours after any appointment, this he knows (though any good therapist doesn’t touch upon a subject they haven’t got time for), so he waits. He’s patient.

All in all, no matter who he is or what he does, Arthur Fleck loves you, and he’s very supportive of you, no matter what. He loves you so much.

An Analysis of Liam Simmonds

Liam is... Liam can the worst. And sometimes he can be the best. He’s the dumbest character in the series and also sometimes the smartest. He’s the most heartless and sometimes he cares the most. Liam Simmonds is a contradiction. And that’s what makes him a great character.

Imagine the keep reading sign is now a Youtube intro sequence, because that opening paragraph felt like a Youtube cold open. In my head, the character I compare Liam most to is Rumplestiltskin from Once Upon a Time. I think it was mainly after episode 11 that tbf, because oh my god, Liam is just so chaotic whenever he’s on screen. You have no idea what he’s going to do next.

Liam is not book smart. You can see it in, what, season 4, episode 2 when he has trouble reading Freddie’s surname. But he also happens to have a real talent for manipulation. Back to season 4 episode 5, it was Liam who noticed that Alba had anger issues, it was Liam who knew the exact right words to get under Alba’s skin.

So Season 5 episode 11, to me, that was pretty much the Smash the Mirror 2-parter in once upon a time. It’s been a while, but I remember being annoyed in season 4 because Rumple had worked hard at his redemption, and they just ruined it in season 4. But then Smash the Mirror came. And we got to see Rumple at his evilest. And it was amazing. Probably the best episode of season 4, Rumple had never been the main villain before, and putting him in that role. Oh my god, he was so smart and so brilliant and he was so smart.

So maybe it’s not as huge a thing as Smash the Mirror, but they never needed something as big as Smash the Mirror, because Liam hasn’t completed his redemption arc. He’s in the middle of it. Although even if he had completed his redemption arc, I would’ve still loved it. He brings chaos to the show. Because let’s face it, how much bad stuff is he responsible for?

His bullying of Alba in season 4 was the reason that the club had financial difficulties. Liam (controlled by Stormzy) was responsible for Duncan turning to the dark side (even though he was already a terrible dad). He outed Dillon, getting him kicked out of the house. He caused the in-fighting between Eric and Freddie, causing the under 13s to lose the game, and he caused Alba and Freddie to be angry at Eric in season 5.

And saying that, I have to wonder if Liam was thinking about all of that in episode 8. Like, that moment in episode 8 was the moment Liam realised “I’m kind of a terrible person” Because, seriously, when Liam says:

“Look, he’s gone bright red. He knows I’m not lying.” That is terrifying. Coming from a kid. The way he says it, it’s... I don’t know how to explain it. I always said that Liam didn’t really want to hurt Dillon as bad as he did. But even through the rest of the scene, and the rest of the series, Liam’s got more a playful winding up energy to him. But that line, the delivery of that line, it sends shudders down my spine (Not literally, but...)

But I still don’t think he meant to get Dillon kicked out. He was just trying to “play the game” between him and Dillon. And I think that’s how he’s always seen it: It’s a game. Life is a game, and he has to win it. Just another example of terrible parent from dear old Dillon Simmonds.

In episode 8, Liam finally saw the consequences of his actions. In episode 8 and 9, he finally realised that he didn’t like himself. Especially episode 9. So, what brought about his heel faced turn in episode 11? Well, there are two options the way I see it:

1) Dillon came back home. Everything was fine. Finally, everything was back to normal. He could be himself; or

2) When he was acting friendly, how he thought everyone wanted him to act, that’s when he was at his loneliest. Nobody was having anything to do with him in episode 9, but when he acted like how he did in episode 10, people paid attention to him.

Or, of course, it could be a mixture of both. It means we won’t finish his redemption arc in season 5, but I hope he’ll at least be sent down that road again by the finale.

Perhaps in episode 12? If Dillon tells Foxborough he’s gay, and they tell him he should keep it a secret so that they can protect him. And I don’t think Dillon’s ready to be open about his sexuality, but we know from episode 10 that he eventually wants to. I think @mackmeta could right, and it will cause him to stay at Phoenix/the Rovers. And then Liam would blame himself for Dillon leaving Foxborough. And who knows how Graham would react. It’s still hard to imagine season 5 ending with everyone in a good place, but I guess we’ll see how it goes. I look forward to it. I trust the writers.

Now, if you’ll pardon me, I think I’m going to write a short fan fiction about Dillon’s meeting with Foxborough. And also let me know your guys’ views on Liam. Is he good? Is he bad? Is he secretly Randall Boggs’ son? I hope you lot enjoyed reading, see you guys tomorrow.

LMAO there’s a reason why the group is called the Aries Hell Group as most of us are very very obsessed with the aries saints. I occasionally ask for doodle requests there and this was one of them. Although I didn’t exactly follow the prompt.....

Some of us play Tencent and there was an event this month where you could chose one of the young bronze saints and do events to help them become Hades or smth. And the discussion came up that Hades!Shiryu would be absolutely terrifying and that the world was very very lucky that it was Shun who Hades chose as his vessel

This is the only doodle that the Aries Hell Group didn’t directly influence excpet for the ikki doodle. That one is an AU where everything is the same but Ikki gets to wear the Bennu Surplice when he goes down to the underworld to save Shun. The rest is me venting my love for Baian and terrorizing the group with my Marina content. I am very baiased towards Baian, can you tell?

I’m probably not the best to get an impression from tbf. FFXV was my first Final Fantasy I’d ever played and the only other one I’ve played since then is the currently released part of FF7R, which I really enjoyed for the most part! The characters and world just didn’t grab me as much as FFXV’s clearly did, but then again, I obviously didn’t complete the entire original story yet so that could change??

Honestly, with new games I tend to like to wait until more stuff comes out to form an opinion, but in terms of my immediate thoughts on the first trailer for 16,, eh??? I really don’t know, tbh just, none of it really struck me as something I’d personally be keen on. The almost medieval style world(??) is definitely something I’m not always into, and am generally pretty picky with so that’s kind of put me off. In terms of the characters we were shown, none of them immediately jumped out as extremely interesting, or someone I really want to know more about, but then again, it is just one trailer,and I’m sure a lot more stuff will be released leading up to the game actually dropping, so who knows! Uhhh the guys turning into a phoenix/demon looks cool! I always love a good creature transformation and that could be fun if the story addresses it in an interesting way.

But anyway, as a sort of general summary of my thoughts I suppose: I think it looks fine, I’m sure it will have its merits as all games/stories/etc in a franchise do. The world and the characters we’ve been shown so far don’t immediately get me excited but I do like to wait until more information has dropped to form a hard opinion on things so. I really like some of the revamped creature designs and I will say, I do like the implication (unless I’m reading this wrong) that the different factions are tied to different Astrals, and that they actually do shit to help the people who follow them in this one:^) So uh, those are my messy thoughts I suppose! Maybe these will change at a later date?? Guess we’ll find out;v;
