"How Poopy Got His Poop Back" was OK. The plot was generic, but after 61 episodes, I'm not going to expect every outing to be a mindblowing sci-fi spectacular. Sometimes, it's nice to have a lowkey episode that catches up with old characters, especially since we thought two of them died in season two.
"Squanch! Told you he wasn't dead." The writers knew what we were thinking. I also thought Gearhead died at the end of "Mortynight Run," but I guess he's harder to kill than he looks.
I enjoyed checking in with Bird Person and Bird Daughter--looks like he's got his hands full--and was glad that Rick continued his character development from season six. He's still a hot mess, but he tries to do the right thing for his friends and even the robot ("Hang on, let me go upstairs and grab the business finisher.") The subtext gave the episode some depth so that it wasn't just twenty minutes of pointless hijinks.
Rick's new voice actor nailed his characterization, too. His voice stood out a little at first, but I'd forgotten about the new actor by the second act, and his voice sounds "normal" upon rewatches. I guess it just takes a short adjustment period.
Whatever the case, any drunk guy at a bar can burp and stutter like Rick, but the new actor (whoever he is) picked up right where Roiland left off. He might not sound exactly like Rick 100% of the time, but combining Rick's trademark blunt raspiness with his lower, gentler tones from the past few seasons is more impressive.
Speaking of actors: who voiced Mr. Poopybutthole? He sounded EXACTLY like Justin Roiland. Maybe it was the same actor who voiced Morty, who also did well.
On another note, I loved seeing Space Beth eating breakfast with the family. Ditching your kids to be a pirate/rebel/space badass/whatever isn't the feminist act that a lot of shows seem to think it is, and I'm glad that Rick and Morty subverted that trope. Space Beth can love her family AND save the universe. She's a modern woman who wants to have it all!
On to Morty. I don't have much to say about him, and this review suggests that he doesn't have much to do next week, either--which hints at a continuation of season six's biggest issue. Season six was great, but half the episodes were The Rick Sanchez Show. When Morty did appear, he didn't have much to do until he finally lost his patience in the finale.
I won't dive into his dynamic with Morty because you could write pages of meta on that one, but in summary: their dynamic is the core of the series, and I hope the writers don't keep separating them. C-137 Rick's attachment to his Morty is a sharp contrast to the other Ricks who treat theirs like disposable toys.
Back to this episode: Rick's doing better--he's dressing and showering, he's communicating with his family, and he's even willing to abandon his search for a few hours--but Prime's still the center of his universe. Season five also started small and concluded with insane twists that turned the show inside out, and I'm betting that this laid-back opener is the start of a similar acceleration.
This episode alone made up about a fourth of the trailer scenes, so goddamn: what aren't we seeing?

Let's talk about Avatar Studios
And what the hell is going on
1) I already talk about the risks of a new Avatar following up Korra so I won't go much further on this here. The problem is this new show already have to face 3 problems
1. Technology. Like, if it really will be 100 years after Korra, makes sense that the Technology will evolve a lot but more technology also means less mystic shit and the fandom love the mystic shit in the Avatar World.
Transform Avatar in some sfi looking show can be bite the ass of Bryke. A lot of fans already complain about Tlok modern world because there's less mystical stuff because of it, now imagine a Avatar where the technology evolve during 100 years.
2. Repetition. For the technology not evolve this much, something have to happen to the world, something that Korra wasn't able to prevent. So then we would have Roku - Aang arc all over again. The children of the Krew will be important to this new Avatar? It's tlok all over again. We will have modern sociological and political discussions? It's tlok all over again. We will have the classic hero journey, where he have to beat the bad guy at the end of the show? It's tla all over again
3. Characters. Tla characters are hella charismatic and the structure of their show help each one of them to develop. Tlok characters were able to sold themselves just with charisma since the storytelling structure of Tlok didn't allow the show to focus on each of them so their development is more off screen. The characters of the new show will have to match the charisma of the previous shows and not sound repetitive. I don't wanna look to a character and think to myself "oh, this is just like Katara". If they want to give us a new show, then give us truly new characters.
2) As a lesbian Poc I understand, respect and agree with the choice of bring more diversity to Avatar Studios but recast the cast is a wrong decision storytelling wise and c'mon...Dante did a stellar job as Zuko (just like the rest of the cast with their respective characters) so if he wasn't half asian he would get recast too? They were all also responsible to give life to your beloved characters, I wouldn't discard them like that.
Storytelling wise, each actor brings something new to a character, this can be good or bad. What if the interpretation of the new cast feels too different for the fandom to buy it? It's more than just a voice. Think about the Joker, James Bond, Superman....all have multiple actors playing the character and every actor brought something new with them, and because of that some are loved like Ledger and Daniel Craig and some are hated like Jared Leto.
Also, I don't want the new cast to just imitate the og cast, that would be disrespectful to their talent. They should simply just keep the cast if the actors wanted to go back and voice their characters and with the new upcoming movies and tv show, then they would search only for native and asian actors to play the new characters.
3) They are taking too much unnecessary risks because a new Avatar will divide the fandom just like Tlok did in 2012 and the fandom can also don't vibe with the new cast work(and I didn't even coment on the rumors they can change the animation style). Both of these things can flop Avatar Studios projects especially in a world were they have to compete with Rick and Morty and Arcane among other young adults cartoons.
So their job is to please the fans and please the main audience that can become a fan after the new projects, but too much changes can make the old fans go away, we saw that happen before with other franchises. And again, they will have to compete for audience with excellent Young adults cartoons
They should do the safe, conquer the fandom first and then start to taking risks and expand the show to newer audience. If they tried to please both all at once, they can ended up pleasing no one

Usually when a voice actor for a character gets replaced, either one might take some time to get used to the new actor, or that they are not accepted fully. In your personal opinion, are there any new voice actors that you embraced for a character in a heartbeat?
Not usually, no. There is one recent example, though, but it's going to sound weird.
So I still watch Rick & Morty. A lot of the season 4 and 5 episodes were absolute garbage, but season 6 was a sharp jump in quality, and so far season 7 has been more hits than misses.
Season 7 also marks the debut of new actors for Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, considering Roiland was given the boot after his domestic assault charges came out.
And... frankly? I almost can't tell the difference.
youtube
In 99.9% of scenarios, these two characters sound identical to how they've always sounded. I only bring this up because if you checked user reviews for this season at all, it's non-stop complaints about how the voices are soooo different now and the show is sooooo much worse off:
The only time either character ever sounds different is when Rick has to yell really loudly. He's not as gravelly when he does that anymore, and almost sounds a little autotuned, like the new actor can't hit the vocal stress levels Roiland could.
Anyone complaining about what a travesty the new voices are just sounds insane to me. Like, Rick sounds "less cerebral" now? Are you listening to yourself, dude on Rotten Tomatoes? Why don't you tell us what you're really thinking?

Smiling Friends aside, what are some of your other favorite cartoons?
I'm getting into Regular Show. I like it even if most of the characters have the same kinda face. I've watched Adventure Time and Fiona and Cake I love both of those shows and would like to see Fiona and Cake again. LSP in that series is funny. I'm still in season 3? of Amphibia. I love it even if I feel season 1 was kinda dull but idk maybe that's just cause I love when the bigger over-arcing plot comes in. I've watched Owl House (yet another one I plan to rewatch with my sis). I have seen Gravity Falls and thinks it's kinda funny that universe is connected to both Amphibia and Owl House's worlds. But that's probably getting into spoilerific territory. I've also watched Steven Universe as you may know, I will probably watch it again because I'm still having a hard time remembering Future. IDK why it seems I forget about SU a lot? I also have seen OK KO which I thought was excellent. I love the jokes in it and how it's both lighthearted but also very action packed. I also plan to watch Craig of the Creek (I have seen some episodes and from what I've seen it seems like a fun adventure)... Oh and a lot more gorey-stuff, Metalocalypse. Although I'm really bummed out about getting a HBO Max subscription only to find out that it was taken down... so unfortunately I have to pirate it... with lesser quality and NO LYRICS. It's a bit disheartening honestly. I mean the show, yeah. But it's fun to see the fun antics of the boys in the band just dicking around. Like, yeah unfortunately it's just kinda one of those shows I put on for background noise sometimes lol. Because I'm not much for the gorey aspect of it, or flashing subliminal messages. On a side note, I'm glad that Dana Snyder got a role in Smiling Friends. I haven't really seen much Hunger Team Aqua Force but it surely is an acid bath that feels kinda nice. Like, idk what other way to describe it. I've also seen a smidge of Super Jail but WOAH NELLY I'm not sure I'm ready yet. Rick and Morty I've watched and really want to rewatch but IDK if this means that if I watch it on Hulu/Max if Justin Roiland is going to get subsidies checks every episode he's in. I think the new voice actors are doing a great job and I'm glad that Justin was replaced. I've also been watching Solar Opposites. That one I feel is a bit more lighthearted than Rick and Morty for some reason and I'm not sure why that might be. Maybe it's Terry's happy attitude? idk. Yumulac reminds me of Young Sheldon (a live action show I have heard of and haven't watched much of I KNOW I DON'T JUST WATCH CARTOONS SHOCKING!!) ... Anyways I'm not sure about investing in MLP anymore just because I really enjoyed gen 4 but ffs I do not want to support Tara Strong anymore and for shame. She voiced a lot of cool characters. I was a big brony back when it came out, or pegasister, whatever... Also Also... Egoraptor/ Arin Hanson in Owl House just made my heart do flips. Like I looked up to him for a while and wanted to make animations of my own but I'm not sure what animation to make yet. Probably smiling friends stuff?? idk maybe just a reel of some sort. I'm sure I'll think of something (rambling at this point...) Ah dang... I forgot to mention that I watched a lot of Simpsons on cable with my family when my Dad was still alive so it kind of holds a special place in my heart, even if I don't or haven't really watched the newer seasons. Futurama holds a special place in my heart because me and my sister watched it when we were both going to college. So funny how time works. Disenchantment was pretty great too. It doesn't need to be any longer. Love a great sapphic story. Everything else about that show too. Now that I'm thinking about it, that whole world reminds me of the Enchanted Forest in Smiling Friends. Heh. Futurama didn't really need to come back recently, I don't think I've even seen all the episodes. BUT Animaniacs did their reboot better. The anime-style episode was top-knotch.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Spoiler-Filled Review
Star Trek: Lower Decks is a mature animation which combines elements of the adventure, comedy, and sci-fi genres. Series creator Mike McMahan is known as a co-creator of Solar Opposites, a producer on Rick and Morty and as a consulting producer on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This is the ninth series in the Star Trek franchise and second Star Trek animated series after Star Trek: The Animated Series ended in 1974.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the fifty-sixth article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on November 30, 2023. PCM editor Jean Henegan she said she added some content "since I'm a massive Trek nerd/fan, I added a bit of context around some of the things you pointed out...and cleaned up a couple of things that weren't quite accurate...Nice piece, overall." I have incorporated those additions here. Most of the text is the same as what I submitted on November 28th.
This animated series, which has aired for three seasons, takes a different tact than previous Star Trek series. It focuses on lower-ranked officers who engage in menial labor, known as lower deckers. Others are supporting characters. Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on Starfleet, the military and exploration division of the United Federation of Planets, in the 24th century. It is tasked with establishing contact with races across the galaxy using a ship no one cares about: the USS Cerritos.
Four lower deckers are protagonists: Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, D’Vana Tendi, and Sam Rutherford. They are voiced by Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, and Eugene Cordero. Four others are recurring characters: captain of the Cerritos (Carol Freeman), first officer Jack Ransom, tactical officer Shaxs, and head medical doctor T’Ana. Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O’Connell, Fred Tatasciore, and Gillian Vigman voice these characters. All are well-known voice actors.
This series stands out because of its animation style, comedy, plot, and characters. Mariner is a big part of this. Her romantic relationships became a big part of the series, especially in the third season, when she is dating Jennifer Sh'reyan (voiced by Lauren Lapkus). Like actual relationships, they don't stay together, partially because Jennifer does not stand by her. She abandons Mariner when many on the Cerritos incorrectly think she is a traitor. Mariner is bisexual or pansexual. Previously, she dated Steve Levy. She tells Tendi, in a season two episode, that she dated "bad boys, bad girls, bad gender non-binary babes, [and] ruthless alien masterminds." She dated Amina Ramsey (voiced by Toks Olagundoye) while at Starfleet Academy. McMahan stated that "every Starfleet officer is probably at the baseline bisexual" and that there was no intention for "anybody to be strictly heteronormative or straight or cis."
Unfortunately, this is rarely explored in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4. There are some romantic vibes between Mariner and T’Lyn (voiced by Gabrielle Ruiz), a fellow crewmember on the Cerritos (who also happens to be Vulcan), in the fourth episode. They care for each other (as much as a Vulcan can care, with their repressed emotions), especially after knives keep stabbing Mariner during the episode. In the episode after, T’Lyn calms down Mariner’s emotions after her fever causes everyone’s emotions on the Cerritos to go out of control. In another episode, Mariner enjoys being kissed by a guy. Otherwise, her development during the season revolves around her promotion to a higher rank and ramifications of that decision. Although she is still part of “lower decks,” she is now a junior grade lieutenant, which makes her uneasy.
Boimler and Rutherford get closer, especially after the fourth episode. They even solve a disagreement by dressing up as Mark Twain and talking on a simulated steamboat. Both struggle with their promotions, although in different ways than Mariner. For instance, Boimler gets his first mission as commander and attempts to do everything himself. With some prodding from T’Lyn, he ends up sacrificing himself to save everyone and is later brought back to life. Rutherford also tries to find his place on the ship following his promotion. The closeness between Boimler and Rutherford has led some to ship them together. After all, in the eighth episode, Boimler doesn’t mind taking off his pants when Rutherford asks. Presently, there are less than 20 fics shipping them. Comparably, there’s over 120 fics for the Marinler ship (Mariner and Boimler). The latter has a small chance of canonization as compared to the Rutherford/Boimler ship.
Otherwise, there are wild plotlines, whether about Betazoid “diplomats” (actually undercover intelligence officers) with a hidden agenda who almost bring the Cerritos into the neutral zone where Romulans await battle, a fake marriage between Tendi and Rutherford, or megalomaniacal A.I. – known as Badgey – trying to get revenge. In the case of the latter, the A.I. comes out of the Daystrom Institute on Earth, returning following its initial appearance in season two. In the time between the seasons, it was imprisoned in a penitentiary holding other A.I. of a similar nature. His plans are foiled when he realizes that ultimate power is too much. The plans of two A.I., Peanut Hamper and Aegus, also fail after they realize that killing others isn’t worth it. Both commit to reforming their selves, so they aren’t evil anymore.
The depiction of A.I. in Star Trek: Lower Decks is somewhat similar to the rogue A.I. in Futurama's Season 8 Part One, or near-planet-destroyer Light Hope in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. It differs from the mixed representation in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Cleopatra in Space, or more positive depictions in My Dad the Bounty Hunter, Kizuna no Allele, and Supa Team 4. This matters considering social media rumblings that some actors will not vote for the recent contract between SAG-AFTRA and the Hollywood studios due to reportedly subpar A.I. provisions [Note: The previous line was removed from the PCM version.]
Throuhgout the season, there are also scenes with spoken poetry, a bar fight (started by Mariner, naturally), and an instance of Boimler getting addicted to a Ferengi television series. There’s even a funny episode where everyone recounts their experiences about being stuck in a cave with different Starfleet officers. However, it’s the journey that Mariner takes over the course of the season that truly hits home as the season comes to a close. Following her promotion Mariner struggles to be a leader, desperate to keep bucking command. How can you be rebellious against the command structure when you are part of it? She asks herself this question, trying to determine what her purpose within Starfleet is. It isn’t until the close of the season that she truly understands who she is and why she is so hesitant to take on more responsibility.
In that episode, Captain Freeman is worried about Mariner. She’s unsure why Mariner is taking risks and trying to get herself killed. She orders Mariner’s friends to distract her. This backfires. Mariner, along with T’Lyn, Tendi, and Boimler, all teleport to a planet surface before their ship is destroyed. When they admit they are worried about her, and reveal the Captain’s order, she is unhappy. She agrees to stay with them until she slips out during the night. In the process, she bonds with a Klingon, who tells her what no one has stated directly: she’s at war with herself.
youtube
This is only part of Mariner’s attempted self-examination. It is akin to Yor Forger asking herself why she is an assassin in episode 33 of Spy x Family, lingering doubts of Teru Momijiyama / Shy in Shy about her reasons for being a hero, or Sora Harewata-ru / Cure Sky wondering why she hesitates to fight the Undergu empire in episode 42 of Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure. Mariner reveals she is partially in Starfleet to honor Sito, a friend from her time at Starfleet Academy who died a senseless death several years earlier, which makes her continue to question Starfleet’s mission. She admits that while she doesn’t hate Starfleet, she tried to get out of a promotion. She believes Starfleet should solve the puzzles of life, not start wars (which could violate the Prime Directive). As she tells the Klingon, she doesn’t want to send her friends off to die. She wants to be an ensign and nothing more.
Ma’ah (voiced by Jon Curry), the Klingon, suggests that she honor her friend, slay her enemies, and study to be better. In response, she hugs him, rather than fighting him, and says they should work together. The episode hints at her future leadership, possibly in Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5. She rallies everyone together in a rousing speech. Unfortunately, she is kidnapped by “Nicholas” Nick Locarno (who, like Sito, previously appeared in live action in Star Trek: The Next Generation and were once again portrayed – in voice over – by their live action actors Robert Duncan McNeil – who also starred on Star Trek: Voyager – and Shannon Fill), who beams her up into a mysterious ship – a ship that has been “destroying” various species’ ships throughout the season. Thanks to her efforts, Boimler, T’Lyn, and Tendi, along with new allies, destroy a Klingon warbird. They are disappointed that Mariner isn’t aboard.
The Season 4 finale ends with a bang, as it turns out that ships “destroyed” across the galaxy have joined the renegade Nova Fleet/Squadron. It resembles the rag-tag rebel fleet in Star Wars Rebels. There’s a major difference: Nick is willing to engage in terrorism, i.e., threat or use of violence to cause panic or intimidate, especially as a method to affect political conduct, as defined in the Third Pocket Edition of Black’s Law Dictionary. Mariner easily stops this. She calls out Nick as selfish and brainless, then steals a genesis device, which can destroy planets.
Captain Freeman shows her dedication to her daughter, and to the well-being of her crew. She goes to extreme lengths to rescue Mariner. After a failed contest on her homeworld of Orion, Tendi agrees to work for her pirate sister, D’Erika (voiced by Ariel Winter), so they can get a battleship. They use the decrepit warship to smash through the barrier. It creates a hole big enough for the captain’s yacht to enter. In the process, they save Mariner. Nick is left on her ship after he tries to kill her and activates the genesis device. In a moment of clever dark humor, Nick is destroyed by the device since he can’t pay the money needed to deactivate it (since it is a Ferengi model, of course).
The episode ends with Captain Freeman not court-martialed, T’Lyn refusing to return to her previous ship, and the four protagonists come together for a party in the mess hall. While they party for a short bit, this soon ends, as Tendi feels obligated to fulfill her end of the bargain she made with D’Erika: she must return to a life of piracy alongside D’Erika. Although this depresses Rutherford, neither he, Boimler nor Mariner, stop her from leaving. Tendi prepares herself for what comes next. Undoubtedly, her story will be expanded in Star Trek: Lower Decks fifth season, which was in production as of March.
As noted earlier, queer representation was lacking in this season, as opposed to previous ones. In the past, I’ve written that the ship engineer, Andy Billups (voiced by Paul Scheer), was possibly asexual. A recent post on treksphere makes the same claims. It argues that Tendi is aromantic, Billups is an asexual icon, and points to possible asexual vibes from Spock, Data, and Odo in the Star Trek franchise – although all three characters have relationships with women at various points in their stories. Such claims are only headcanons, similar to those who believed that Page in Tron: Uprising was asexual. There are no asexual characters in the Star Trek universe, to my knowledge. As such, having a canon asexual character in Star Trek: Lower Decks, outward in their identity like Todd Chavez in Bojack Horseman, would be great.
Asexual representation in animation, and in popular culture, is slim. While Alastor in Hazbin Hotel, Lilith Clawthorne in The Owl House, Peridot in Steven Universe, or Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb, are asexual, they were confirmed off-screen. The same is the case for Spongebob Squarepants and Percival "Percy" King in Epithet Erased. Some have stated that Seiji Maki in Bloom Into You and Shōko Tanimoto in The Case Files of Jeweler Richard are asexual. In a previous review, I noted this was the case for Hime Shiraki in Yuri is My Job!. I've seen social media chatter about the manga which comes to a similar conclusion.
Hopefully, Star Trek: Lower Decks fifth season expands on Mariner‘s personal relationships and her identity, and that of the other protagonists. Undoubtedly, it will retain its mature comedy and quirkiness. All the while the characters will be thrown into conflict-prone situations, a breeding ground for trauma. This is not unique. There are multiple series airing this fall featuring characters in tense and stressful situations, sometimes involving murder of human beings. This includes certain The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess and Spy x Family episodes.
Otherwise, people anonymously described their conditions at Titmouse in a largely-circulated spreadsheet about animation studios. In the spreadsheet, which has 11 entries for the aforementioned animation studio, people praise Titmouse for good pay, flexible and healthy working hours, opportunities for rapid advancement, and good management. Others criticize Titmouse for disorganization, overwork, low pay, and say it is only good for those entering the industry. Clearly, it’s a mixed bag. There are different experiences, depending on each production, if I’m understanding these entries correctly.
In my previous review of Star Trek: Lower Decks, I noted that LGBTQ+ representation is at the heart of the show. I pointed to myriad examples of such representation (and in the franchise), and note that many fan fictions for Mariner are skewed toward men. As such, I still see the interactions between Mariner and Boimler as platonic rather than romantic. I understand how people see them as the latter, shipping them as Marinler, but I see them as good friends, rather than good lovers.
youtube
In the past, this series had some of best queer representation in mature animation. Other examples include RWBY, Disenchantment, Final Space, Bojack Horseman, and Harley Quinn. In season 4 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, this was less emphasized. Even so, the series is still moving in an inclusive direction. It isn't like Star Wars: The Bad Batch. That series had "four White men and one person of color, in the main cast," as I wrote in January.
This direction is clear from the cast and crew. Tawny Newsome and Dawnn Lewis, who voice Mariner and Captain Freeman, are both Black women, like their characters. Noël Wells (voice of Tendi) is of Tunisian and Mexican descent. Eugene Cordero (voice of Rutherford) is of Filipino descent. Gabrielle Ruiz is of Mexican descent. Carlos Alazraqui is Latine. Black men such as Marcus Henderson, Phil LaMarr, and Carl Tart also voice characters. There are some White male voice actors, such as Jack Quaid, Jack McBrayer, Jerry O'Connell, Fred Tatasciore, Paul Scheer, and Paul F. Tompkins. White women like Gillian Vigman, Lauren Lapkus, Georgia King, and Jessica McKenna voice characters too. Although, they are not the majority of the main cast, they comprise much of the recurring cast.
Many of these names were familiar. For one, Newsome voiced Jessica Williams in Craig of the Creek, Quaid voiced Clark Kent / Superman in My Adventures with Superman, and Cordero voiced Jamie in Steven Universe. Lewis voiced LaBarbara Conrad in Futurama, Professor Klabrax V in Cleopatra in Space, The Chief/Tamara Fraser in Carmen Sandiego, and Fannie Granger in Spirit Riding Free. LaMarr is best known for voicing Hermes Conrad in Futurama, Virgil Hawkins / Static in Static Shock, and John Stewart / Green Lantern in Justice League, along with Sky Gunderson in Disenchantment.
Alazraquiprominently voiced Puff in The Proud Family (in the reboot/revival) and Skylar in Elena of Avalor. Winter voiced Princess Sofia Cordova for the entire Sofia the First series, in the Elena of Avalor series finale, and in Elena and the Secret of Avalor, a backdoor pilot for Elena of Avalor. Wells, O'Connell, Tataiscore, Scheer, McKenna, McBrayer, Lapkus, Tart, and Tompkins, had assorted voice roles, as well. However, this isn't counting anyone in the guest cast.
In terms of the show's music, the opening and closing themes were good, and it fits with the action. I don't recall any tracks there were necessarily memorable (apart from the opening and closing tracks). So, I'm downgrading the music score for this review. Even so, Chris Westlake did an excellent job as the series composer. The music echoes Star Trek scores in other parts of the franchise. Those who directed, wrote, storyboarded, and animated each episode, including some well-known names like Jamie Loftus, McMahan, and Grace Parra Janney, deserve plaudits for their hard work as well.
I look forward to the fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. I hope that the personal identities of the main cast are explored more in the next season. I'm optimistic that Paramount executives realize the series' value. It would be devastating to have the series cancelled unceremoniously like Star Trek: Prodigy. Netflix recently nabbed that series as part of the streaming wars.
Star Trek: Lower Decks is currently streaming on Paramount+ or for purchase on PrimeVideo.

12. Do you think that Rick and Morty will be affected substantially by having to change the voice actor for Rick and Morty and a bunch of other characters?
unfortunately as much as i love jr's role as rick it's kinda iconic to me.. i think a drastic change that they don't even bring up is gonna be funny. like he could have taken bad drugs in another galaxy and ruined his voice. a dumb backstory is always fun im excited to see what happens and how the writers flourish with it all
13. What's a good Rick and Morty blog?
the girl reading this ❤️
14. Who is the Rick and Morty character that you relate to the most?
i'm so fucking like beth it's unreal but i feel like summer most of the time
15. The funniest Rick and Morty bit/scene, in your opinion?
omg too hard... off the top of my head because i just watched it, the bethcest episode where rick morty and summer are playing that vampire oregon trail ass game LMFAO... and the cut away to jerry gasping when he finishes the horse puzzle
16. Best Rick and Morty season?
s4 has me by the balls and is a comfort season when i'm feeling down
17. Worst Rick and Morty season?
i like them all 🤌
18. Would you stop watching the show if Justin Roiland returned?
no but i will be sending ways to kill him with my mind
19. Your favourite Rick and Morty quote?
A VAT OF ACID? ARE YOU DYING OF DEMENTIA????
20. If you had to be one member of the smith family in the next season, who would you want to be?

When do you think the Monster High show will be on Paramount+ and other watching places? Apparently its not up anywhere, the live watching times have passed already. Does it have a different release on Paramount+ than Nick? (Just really curious. I really was the watch it lol)
I feel you! I don't have Cable so I purchased "The Monstering" on Youtube for $2 (I don't need to see it in HD)
I have Paramount + and according to the Nick Live website it SAYS that 17 Monster High titles are going to be added in October, WELP it's November 1st and as of right now the only Monster High media on Paramount + is A New Ghoul @ School and The Live Action Monster High Movie.
What is the truth Nickelodeon!?
The Movie aired pretty regularly all during October However, according to the TV Guide Website it is not airing on Nickelodeon in the next 14 days. So if you wanna watch the movie you might have get Paramount + (use the free trial f you got it) or buy the movie outright which might be a challenge because I don't think it will be getting a DVD release since studios hate physical media (I HOPE I am wrong, dear god let me be wrong.) Hulu has the movie as well but only with the Nickelodeon live TV add on, Regular Hulu won't help you.
The Monster High Animated series SHOULD be on Paramount +, it's a nickelodeon property and we are 2 episodes deep with a 3rd on the way Friday. The fact that it's not is very annoying. I shouldn't have to pay to watch it on YouTube when I am already paying for Paramount + but I did.
Now, I don't want to advocate for Piracy because it's "wrong" or whatever.
But sometimes piracy is your only viable option. And with it becoming increasingly obvious it will be our only option with Physical Media breathing it's last breath as more and more companies refuse to make DVDs and/or Blu-Rays and even more companies pulling content (that many have already purchased) from their libraries with no way of getting the content you purchased back. Did you like Final Space? No you didn't because currently? you can't buy it anywhere!... things are looking grim for a lot of shows.
So I don't want to tell you to download these things illegally. But at the same time... I'm not your parents.
THAT BEING SAID! if you chose this route (and I'm not saying you should) You are absolutely morally obligated to support the series in other ways. I don't like resorting to these methods, I'm a content creator myself as are many of my friends but sometimes our hand is forced. so IF you choose to go down this path, you absolutely must watch the show through proper channels as soon as you are able to, create fan art, stories, cosplay for the show, send some nice messages to the creators, buy the dolls, toys, merch, make up, anything! Bully Nickelodeon and tell them you want DVDs! Blow up Paramount + and demand they air the content you're paying for in a timely fashion! Harass Mattel and tell them to do better with their product!
Remember Kids: it's okay to bully soulless corporate entities! But do not under any circumstances bother the Actors or Voice Actors they don't have the power to change anything and they are real people with real feelings. I saw what y'all did to Lagoona's voice actor and that shite was wrong.
Now, I am going to watch "The Monstering" on my purchased youtube pass, Because despite the fact that I pay for Paramount + it's not on there. And if that is how I have to watch the show then so be it because I'm not waiting 9 months for them to add it to Paramount + all in one big drop the same way I have to wait for Rick and Morty on Hulu, I won't do it and I shouldn't have too. the rest of you?
Do what you gotta do, drink up me hearties yo-ho.

𝑾𝒆𝒍𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅
Summary: you moved into a new neighborhood. Your neighborhood grew closer to you and you both starts to flirt with each other. It leads to you both sleeping together
Genre: smuts
Warning: NSFW, thigh ridding, lots of tongue in the kissing, sexual talking, porn with a plot? Starts fluff ends smut. Kinda implied
Pairing: Chris Evans x neighbor reader
Please don't post any of my content anywhere else without my permission
Read at your own risk! At least 16+
You placed the last box on the ground shutting the door of your car. You breathed out a sigh of relief as you looked over at your New home. You had just closed on it and it was exciting. You never thought you'll be able to buy such an amazing place, in an amazing neighborhood but here you were.
You picked up the box and began carrying it to the front door. As you walked up the stone steps you can see a man in the yard of the house next door with his dog. You looked over at him, he smiled and waved. He seem really nice.
You walked into the house placed your stuff on the floor in the foyer before walking back outside. You were going to greet home, you really needed a good relationship with neighbors especially since you're new to the neighborhood.
You walked through the lawn and stopped at your property lines. "Hi." Chris without hesitation walked over to you. "Hi, I see you're new here."
"yeah, I am. I'm y/n." You stuck out your hand giving him a bright smile. Chris stuck out his and shook your hand. "I'm Chris nice to meet you."
You nodded. "Ok well I'm going to go and put my things away. It was very nice meeting you."
you turned to leave, but Chris stopped you. He took a deep breath as you Turned around. "Yes."
"I was wondering if you wanna come over for a drink? Nothing weird just to welcome you into the neighborhood."
You chuckled softly making Chris question himself. Did you have a boyfriend? Did he jump to fast? Did he ruin this moment? His mind was racing in those few seconds and it was only cut off when you spoke.
"uh sure. Where do we meet?" "Uh in my backyard." Chris said happily. "Just come through the gate. 6?"
You nodded. "Alright sounds like a plan. I'll see you there." You waved goodbye to him before you made your way inside. Chris stood in the yard a little longer happy with himself over what he accomplished.
Around 5: 30 you got yourself ready. You didn't want it to seem like you were impressing or trying to dress nicely for him so you stuck on a graphic tee and some jeans with holes in them.
You grabbed your phone just in case before you walked over to Chris' house. It was starting to get dark out, but the lights from Chris' backyard lit up the place enough.
You softly sighed as you pushed the gate door open. You walked further into the backyard, you weren't going to deny your heart was racing as you got closer.
As you fully reached the backyard you can see Chris standing on his patio a beer in his hand. When he saw you he smiled. "Hey you made it." He walked over to you and hugged you.
"of course I did I live next door." Chris snickered at your sarcasm. "Alright do you a beer or some water?"
You walked over to seating area where Chris had a few lit candles for more light. "Uh beers fine." You said as you sat down.
Chris went inside and grabbed a beer from the fridge before returning to the patio. He handed it to you before sitting in the chair beside you. "So how are you?"
"I'm fine. Really exhausted from moving but I'm happy I'm here." Chris nodded humming. "Yeah. So are you from the Boston area?"
You were quick to shake your head. "No, I'm from California actually. I moved and because it's more calmer here on the east coast."
Chris agreed with you. He could definitely understand where you were coming from. "So.. what do you do?" You asked taking a sip of your beer.
"I'm a actor. You may have seen me in some movies, you may haven't I don't know." Chris chuckled lowly as he sipped his drink.
"Yeah I think I have, but I don't remember the movie." "Maybe captain America..?" Chris gave you wiggly eyebrows. "oh wait yes." It started to dawn on you he was the one and only captain America. "Hm Chris Evans?"
Chris nodded. He started smiling as you realized who he was. "You got it correct."
"that's pretty cool." You laughed and drunk your beer, all of it. Chris watched as you placed the empty bottles on the side table. He was kinda shocked with how fast you finished, he didn't expect it, but it was such a turn on to him.
"you want another beer?" Turning to him you shook your head. "No, I'm fine thanks." Chris nodded softly.
You both talked a little bit more before you started to notice it was getting pretty late out. You decided it was time to head home despite not wanting to leave.
You thanked Chris for his warm welcome before you made your way home. As you got in bed that night you started to think about how this move was a good idea. Not only for yourself but because you had a hot, sexy, neighbor that was kind as fuck.
**
As weeks went you and Chris grew closer together. He invited you over often. You both had a beer or two and talked. You noticed Chris grew flirty with you, you couldn't help Flirting back with him.
After a month of moving in you and Chris were close as fuck. It was no longer a platonic thing between the two of you, it was sexual tension. Chris wanted nothing more than to make you his and watch you breathless under him.
To cut the tension you decided it was time to act up and what I mean by act up I mean tease Chris.
Around 4pm you made your way over to Chris' place. You had on a short skirt and a button up shirt with no bra. You knocked on the door and waited for Chris to answer. A few seconds flew by before Chris answered. "Y/n, what's up."
"hi, I just wanted to come over and give you company." Chris nodded. "Ok, come in then." He moved out of the way letting you in. You walked through the house to the living room. You took a seat on the couch, Chris sat down beside you. He noticed your short skirt and tight, braless button up. It made his cock twitch in his pants just thinking about it.
"what do you want to watch?" He asked grabbing the remote. "Um whatever you want I'm fine with." "Alright."
Chris clicked on Rick and Morty. You both watched in silence. Chris peering over at you every few minutes didn't go unnoticed by you at all. You could see his cock straining against his pants and honestly it looked painful.
Now it was your time to act. You took your hand and placed it on Chris' thigh. you can feel him tense up under your hand. you looked over at him. "is there something wrong?"
chris looked over at you. "I know what youre doing y/n."
You decided to play dumb. "What do you mean?"
Chris crawled. His warm hand came to your thigh and pulled you onto his legs in one swift movement. You looked down at him, You can feel your panties soaking as you felt Chris hard against you.
"you know what you're doing." Chris placed his hand on your waist. "And I think it's time you do what you want to do."
Chris gripped your chin and kissed you. The kiss was rough making you moan. His tongue slipped into your mouth colliding with yours.
You began to move your hips against his thighs. You moaned taking hold of the couch behind you for leverage. Chris pulled away looking down between you both.
"fuck your so wet. Soaking my pants baby." You groaned throwing your head back. The feeling of his pants against your core made you grow closer to your high.
"you're close huh?" Chris gripped your jaw making you look at him. "So fucking dirty. You're going to cum for me?"
"yes." Your voice came out shakey. You keep moving your core against his thigh. Before you knew it you were cumming. You wailed into Chris' ear. Tingles ran through your Body as your orgasm ripped through your body.
When you came down from your high you looked at Chris. "You done?" He asked with a smirk. You laughed, "yeah."
"Chris brushed his finger over your cheeks l. "Well I don't think you're really Done. How about we go to the bedroom?" Chris lips brushed against yours. You hummed. "I think that's a good idea." You kissed him before getting up from your seat His lap. Chris got up and pulled you to his bedroom for a ton of fun.

Highs and Lows
What's the Tea? Tuesday
This week was largely uneventful, I hate to say. No real interesting new conversations or anything, just a few boring dudes.
I honestly have no memory of Sunday. Is it possible I just didn't do a fucking thing all day?
Monday I worked on my murder mystery some more while watching Swipe Right play some games, and then that night was when I stayed up too late and got slammed with Baymax-related sadness. I'm doing much better now, thank you for asking. The whole thing was exhausting, but I guess the good part is I don't have to spend energy holding out hope for that anymore.
Tuesday I got to hang out with friends and go do fun activities. Futuristic Korean restaurant, Central Market bakery overload, Bob the Drag Queen makeup tutorial videos, cat cuddles, late night Taco Bell.
Wednesday I ate cake in bed while watching Stranger Things and worked on some paintings that turned out pretty well. I've been doing a lot more art lately and it feels good. I like doing illustration but I feel bad just copying existing art and I don't have any original ideas, so I've started painting based on photos I've taken.
Thursday Cuddlebug came to pick me up, and for whatever reason I changed clothes like 6 times before he got there. This is a ridiculous habit.
The man owns 4 shirts and he thinks I look cute no matter what; I really do not need to try so hard.
On this week's "What did I forget to pack?" segment, we've got...a hairbrush. Could be worse, I suppose. Better than the week I forgot to pack flats.
We spent a pretty low-key night at home. After dark we took a walk around the neighborhood, which was actually nice and also allowed me to hatch some eggs in Pokemon Go.
Cuddlebug made us some delicious pasta for dinner, which we watched while we started Squid Game - neither of us had seen it, somehow.
Then when it was bedroom time we finally started Rick and Morty. Background: I had zero interest in the show when it came out, and at some point after maybe the first two seasons, Dr. Strangelove started bugging me to watch it with him. I was very clear that I did not want to. He made me watch the first episode anyway, and because I didn't want to, I didn't enjoy it at all. And I've just been negative on it ever since.
Recently, though, my friends have been recommending it. So this time around, I really liked it. I was surprised at the number of voice actors I recognized, which is nice.
Sidebar:
Old and Busted: When I had started going to counseling to try to work through some of my childhood stuff, Dr. Strangelove had persuaded me to start watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and he was really excited to watch this one particular episode that he said was hilarious. It was the end of season 1 (S1E7: Charlie Got Molested), an episode in which Mac is mad because everyone else got molested by a particular priest as a kid, and he didn't (because he was fat, I think?). Dr. Strangelove didn't understand why I didn't think it was funny.
New Hotness: Cuddlebug paused an episode of Rick and Morty (S1E5: Meeseeks and Destroy) before it started to warn me about a scene of attempted pedophilia - which was only like 2 minutes long and not played for laughs.
Friday was a busy day. We ran a couple errands early in the day, and then Cuddlebug went to work for a little while. But not before having this conversation:
Cuddlebug: "Do you want to ride around in the car with me for an hour while I do work stuff?"
Me: "God no."
*Later*
Cuddlebug: "You ready for a 5-hour drive to my mom's house in a month?"
Me: "Absolutely!"
Cuddlebug: "I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU!"
I'm an enigma, what can I say?
Once he got off work we had dinner with some friends at this diner he's been dying to try. It was pretty good! I got a burger that was slathered with horseradish and would have been better if it were not, but that's my own fault for ordering the burger/not asking them to leave it off. The restaurant was like 6 four-top tables, so it was basically like if someone hosted a pop-up diner in your living room.
The thing that made me the happiest was that one of the items on the menu was a club sandwich called the Hedberg.
This made my comedy-loving heart very happy.
After dinner we got to hang out and play board games, argue about how Cuddlebug is secretly racist and doesn't know how to use language, do some Switch Sports, and make a Kroger run for very necessary pie.
Cuddlebug: "Is the Sleepytime tea gonna knock me out or just make me a little sleepy?"
Friend: "It'll make you a little sleepy."
Me: "I guess it depends on your constitution."
Cuddlebug: "My CON is a solid 14."
Nerd.
Saturday he went to work and got to pick some of his 40k figurines [editor's note: "ummmmm actually, they're minis, not figurines" he says] up from the painter. I made dinner, but not before more arguing about where you're supposed to store produce.
Me: "Where did you put my onion?"
Cuddlebug: "In the fridge."
Me: "In the fridge???"
*one disagreement later*
Me: Where do you put tomatoes?
Cuddlebug: "In the fridge."
Me: "You're so weird."
Cuddlebug: "Most people put tomatoes in the fridge.
Me: "I -"
Cuddlebug: "Excuse me, most Americans put tomatoes in the fridge.
Me: "Then they're wrong!
Cuddlebug: "Then I'm wrong, but not weird.
Me: "You can be both!"
He keeps saying he wants to argue, so fuck it. It's on now.
That night after dinner we were watching Squid Game and I started falling asleep (at like...9 pm?) so we went to bed. And then woke up at around 12:45 am. Ugh. Cuddlebug also woke up, so we had some super cuddles and watched a couple episodes of Rick and Morty, after which he went to sleep and I stayed awake until 7:30 am. It was dumb. Sleeping is dumb.
Tomorrow I've got some interesting stuff to slow you...

Season six doesn't seem like that long ago, and now we're already gearing up for the season seven finale. Younger writers, new voice actors, dudebros tanking the online ratings, people all over Twitter realizing that Rick and Morty is actually good, Prime Rick and Evil Morty in the same episode--yeah, it's been a wild ride. 💥
The mall didn't have much today. I found a couple of engraved tumblers in a previous installment. When I visited today, the seller told me that the tumblers have different images on the back. I turned them around, and sure enough:
Rue 21 had a new gift set. Everyone's breaking out the stocking stuffers!
I don't check out the head shop in the mall very often because they usually don't have new merchandise, but today, they had a pipe:
Nothing new at Spencer's, but I did think it was funny that Fear Hole merchandise appeared on store shelves weeks ago. It's not a spoiler leak: Adult Swim spoiled the episode themselves!
Season seven merchandise has been weirdly spoiler-y. Before "Unmorticken" came out, a T-shirt that featured C-137 Rick fighting Prime Rick and Evil Morty already hung on the Spencer's rack. It's not a huge plot point, but the "I'm a leg!" shirt arrived before "Rickfending Your Mort" aired.
Honestly, it made me feel a little special, like a Rick and Morty insider. 🤔 Merchandise roundups: your source for all things Richard and Mortimer!

Iiiiiiiiii forgot you replied to me. Lol
Why the hell did tumblr put your quote all the way at the bottom of my rant...Hate this damn....
Anyways.
You seemed to have purposely ignored every other counter point I made and only mentioned the hyenas.
Then ya slapped some books on there because you can't Explain the rest yourself.
😕
You say I'm confused with what you mean: You're accusing the writers of being racist and depicting poc- (as what exactly? Comedians? Scavengers? A hyena??) As.....antagonists with a new york style accent. So. By your logic black folk are being depicted as lowly creatures. In YOUR eyes: That's pretty white supremist, risking outing their beliefs in a children's movie.
I don't see how I mistook what you were trying to say?
And Jesus Christ, you aren't just pretentious, but extremely pretentious. The height of pretentiousness. My gosh you are one of the most ridiculously pretentious clowns I've met all year.
Dude acts like they're going to war and pulls out a phd for some fucking disney characters. Then goes all silly narc with the Rick & Morty meme "You have to have a fairly high IQ to understand the racism in children's animation, in this essay I will-"
Why do I have a tumblr........you are just.....
Here's a revelation for ya: You're the racist. According to you poc folk not only have to act a certain way but they also have to sound a certain way.
Congratulations on getting offended because your stereotypes of minorities weren't met.
Matter of fact you also think white folk have to act and sound a certain way too. Cuz apparently a white person can't be from Boston. Lol Nah. Poc folk can't be from New York either.
Villain characters also can't be voiced by a poc person either. Because that's obviously what you're so very peeved about. Two of them are voiced by poc people....soooo the writers are obviously very racist! /s
They act like the exaggerated behavior of wild hyena. Obviously.
All three hyenas are a cast of mixed race......Black, Mexican, White.....and their voices are an exaggerated New Yorkian accent....nothing to do with race.....
You: "Nah. Nah, it's totally racist. Mega racist. Super racist. Racism."
Ugh.
You are racist because you saw 3 goofy characters who speak in slang and automatically thought: "That's totally poc people!
This isn't a pissing contest btw. This is me hard rolling my eyes at someone who clearly gets off on their ridiculous self righteous "society is racist!!" crusades. Lol
Aaaahhh something was a controversy. So that inherently makes it "legitimate" Instead of more herds of knock-off psuedo-intellectuals like you overreacting to another non issue.
"These goofy, lowly characters who speak in slang are obviously people of color!!"
So like. If it's their voice: Nala, Mufasa, Raffiki, Simba, are all also poc via their voice actors. And since there is no way to sound or act poc, all are nice protags who have the upper hand and are beloved within their universe by the other characters......
But Nah. The hyenas are your only focal point in this movie because you'll grasp at anything to cancel call just to make yourself seem like some activist for racism. 👀
"Weak arguments"
Karen, your argument was weak to begin with. Don't project your idiocy onto me.
Then you deflect with more of your soap box rhetoric:
"You don't view racism in every little thing the way I do....obviously you don't even know what racism is!"
And you clearly don't see yourself as the racist you are for perpetuating harmful stereotypes of poc communities. 😕
No, I didn't need your poor attempt at "re-educating" someone who already knows wtf racism and history is.
Geez, your head is so far up your own arse it's unbelievable.
The first two books weren't relevant to the point. Especially your claim of this whitewashing.
You are mistaken as well. I never even refuted that half of these movies didn't have a tie into race, culture & politics- (And gender??What the hell did gender even have to do with this discussion??)
-Just that they weren't racist.
Laziness in detail isn't racism.
Ex: They got everything right except the music?
Nah, not racism. Just Laziness or maybe other issues including deadlines and resource.
Unthinking Eurocentrism.....so your point there is....that the poc folk raising controversy about this don't actually care whether their characters are treated with the same equal depiction as white characters. They just want to be angry about injustices that have nothing to do with these particular pieces of work?
Gotcha.
..........
Whiteness as the default in media.....
Ah gee, would that have anything to do with this majority white country, who's media will cater to that demographic because, common sense?
I'm not naming every single positive poc character Disney has ever had. I'm not. They are there. Stop ignoring them.
And more of your apparently shared opinion on how poc characters should look and act. Lol
Someone actually wrote a whole book that half sounds like paranoia, "You act white, unconsciously, you just don't know it. So you need to examine it."
....Anyways....
Disney characters no matter the race are celebrated by everyone.
Poc characters pointed at poc are still celebrated by everyone.
That doesn't change that people of their races will likely favor characters of that race. Tho, they still love Disney characters of any race in general.
These characters are beloved within their movies and within our world.
They. Are literally. Depicted in a positive light. What was your problem. My god. Lol
I ain't tryna get back into this but I'm saying my last piece.
Human screentime of Disney PoC characters in 3 of the last 6 PoC-lead WDAS films

Welp... here we go...
If you dont want spoilers then I recommend you skip this entire post because I do not respect this film at all to not talk about the shit that happens in this film.
⚠️AFTER THIS LINE ITS ALL SPOILERS⚠️
This films wants to be an emotional gut punch but it is so... I your face about it. Emotional beats are either predictable or just... they don't hit. And the ultimate sacrifice from Bhgs at the end while sad just doesn't hit anything. And the plot of "Oh the main villain manipulates the kid to go against his dad and the villain ultimately joins the rival team" is really predictable. And I know that in the end this is a film targeted to kids and thats fine. But this film felt like it was trying to be too hip and too aware (the entire joke about LeBron acting hip and the 'don't dab' comment is just not funny)
The jokes
The jokes in this film do not land for me, albeit 2 (the joke about Sylvestar grabbing Michael B Jordan instead of the actual Michael Jordan was ok and the fact Wiley Coyote was in Mad Max was really cool) ; most the jokes either fell flat or completely missed the mark (this film tried to be hip and modern with its humor and honestly it was more cringe than anything else.
Also idk if this was intentional or not, but can we stop making jokes about how companies are stealing our info and spying on us? We get it Zuckerberg is trash Facebook and other big companies are taking our personal info but seriously it does get old. Mitchell's vs the Machines was at least clever because it was about a big tech company abusing it's power. Space Jam: A New Legacy is about an A.I trying to make himself feel better cause he doesn't feel appreciated and is projecting his issues on a kid he cyberstalked for a whopping 3 minutes.
The Plot
The films Plot is predictable, short, and a around not engaging. The idea of bringing another pro basketball player to aid the Tunes in another wild game for their survival isn't the problem, it's the rest of the Plot that's the problem.
The first film had a simple enough Plot that worked really well (The Tunes have to win a basketball game against roided up aliens or they'll become Amusement Park attractions, and they need a bow retired player to hp them win) Its short and sweet and it works.
This film felt the need to overcomicate it by forcing a dramatic subplot into the fold which, can work. You can have a dramatic subplot while still being a Zany and fun film. But SJ:NL can't seem to decide which to focus on; it goes from zany and over the top one moment moment then gives you tonal whiplash when it jumps to the dramatic bits in the plot.
I genuinely think that this film would've benefited from focusing on the zaniness over the drama, since frankly that's always been the focus of the Looney Tunes
Loony Tunes: Back in Action and Space Jam 1 are two tonaly similar films but both have better comedy and each have their respective dramatic beats, though their both saved for the climax of the film.
LT:BIA and SJ1 both have they're own dramatic subplots (M.J makes the deal with Smackhammer to raise the stakes of the game and J.D has to save his father from the Chairman and his plans. The difference here is that these films, while adding a level of drama, don't let the drama overshadow what tnis film is actually about (the Looney Tunes)
SJ:NL let's the drama completely overshadow the actual Tunes and isn't really engaging (to me anyway)
Also I'd like to say that, while giving this film a video game feel was an interesting concept it just reminded me more of Pixels or The Emoni Movie (though this wasn't NEARLY as bad as the Emoji movie I'll say that)
That's something else about this film. It feels like one big advertisement for everything WB owns (much like how Emoji Movie was one big Smartphone ad) and while that isn't inherently a bad thing it can be a hinderence to the film as well (I wanted to watch the films that cameod in this film more than the actual film itself)
The Characters
Look this is the Tom and Jerry film again, we don't go to this film for LeBron and his fictional family (if some people do then that's fine) but most of us go to see the film for the Tunes and the cartoon asthetic, and there's plenty of that here. But I'd like to actually care about the human characters in this film frankly.
Let's just get this out of the way, LeBron is not a great actor. He tries his best yes but he is not a great actor in this film; he reminds me more of Vin Deisel when he acts (he has a voice yes but he doesn't act physically. It's like he's trying to have his voice match the film but his body isn't in tune with it.
Now I don't wanna hate on kid actors, they do what they can and they're kids. But listen this kid was not interesting at all, and id have rathered the film not include him (or very least make him more interesting other than the "Gosh Dad stop pushing your ways and beliefs onto me" archetype.
The Tunes are fine I have no beef with how they treated the Tunes (all for ONE detail)
The way thsi film treats the Tunes in this film bothers me on so many levels. "Send him to the Rejects" "Losers" The fact that they treat the Looney Tunes like they're some forgotten property is really unsettling to me. The Tunes have never been forgotten the notion that they ARE forgotten bothers me so much, regardless if it's a plot point for the film. The Looney Tunes are some of the most recognizable faces in ask of media, and I get this is supposed to be a "New School vs Old School" message like with the Father vs Son but my God I do not like how this protrays the Tunes.
Speaking of the rejects, let's talk about AL G Rythm.
My God this is the most uninteresting villain and his whole plan is so easy to spot from the start of the film. "Oh look at me, I have a bruised ego cause I feel unappreciated in my time and im gonna project my issues on this kid I cyberstalked while praying KING JAMES would bless me with his support." Holy shit my guy you have a bigger ego than Tony Stark and its more bruised than Bruce Wayne's back after Bane was finished. He is one of the most bland villains I've seen in awhile, and the Goon Squad is no better. The Goon Squad is nothing but cool designs and a refderence to more popular Basketball players (and yeah they're supposed to be cronies but at least make them cronies with personality; the Nerdlucks were funny, had personality, and were an integral part of the story (also the fact that they ACTUALLY HAD THE NERDLUCKS CAMEO in in film but they were rooting against the Tunes just... Ehhhhhhhhhh) And the Goon Squad was boring and didn't add anything say for AL G. stealing the kids algorithm to make his own team.
Also sidenote, them constantly calling him "King James" got really annoying really fast. Like we get you gave yourself that nickname, you're the current too NBA player rn and all that but you don't have to keep saying it my God.
Now what did I actually like about this film. Well quite a bit actually.
For starters, the animation was top notch and everything looked great. I thought the 2D models were a little odd at first (too shiny compared to the faded sleek of the original) but they grew on me. All the CGI models of the Tunes looked really great, say for Sam who just looked really weird to me (probably cause he loses his hat by the end and a CGI Yosemeti Sam without a hat just looks strange)
The Tunes also felt exactly how they should in a Space Jam film, Bugs especially. Yes Daffy was his usual comedic self and I like how they had him try and be the manager of the team instead of a player, and every other Tune was just as zany as usual; honestly of all the Tunes I'm genuinely impressed with how they treated Bugs (till the end)
Bugs was the most interesting to see in the film, wherein every character left Tune World except Bugs and he kinda became this Castaway parody (with his own makeshift Porky Pig dummy) and he was just really lonely and stayed true to the Looney Way and he just wants his family back. That entire subplot is the most interesting part of this film hands down; the only thing about Bugs's arc I didn't like was the end which was predictable, but i was still more invested in Bugs's arc than anyone else's.
Also when they showed the Tunes on the other WB worlds in the Warnerverse that's not the name ik but it's basically the Warnerverse the only Movie refferences that i thought were clever were Mad Max, Austin Powers, and Themyscira. And as much as it pains me to admit it the Rick and Morty Gag with Taz was probably the funniest of them, and I don't even like Rick and Morty anymore.
The Matrix was just eh, Yosemite Sam just didn't land, Game of Thrones was just not funny and I won't apologize. As far as the cameos/refferences in the end I'll say it again, I wanted to watch the movies and shows that cameod more than the film itself. I'm not gonna try to list them off but some highlights were seeing Gremlins, the Mask, every Tim Burton Batman villain/Adam West Batman, Thundercats, and Scooby Doo. Aside from that this was all just one big add for Warner Bros.
So I'm gonna try end this on a note that I know alot of people are gonna bring up or use to say shouldn't be brought up: Nostalgia.
Listen. This film has the same issue that alot of modern film reboots tend to have, which is the fact that it has to match the same hype as the film that came before it.
Now I'd like to say that this isn't gonna be a Power Point on reboots, God knows this is long enough as is, but the issue with alot of reboots is that they try to remake something that more often than not did the media justice the first time around. Robocop, Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghostbusters 2016, litterally every Disney L.A Remake. This isn't to say these films can't be good, or even surpass their predecessors. But more often than not they tend to miss the mark either just barely or drastically.
And here's the thing, this argument can also apply to sequel films that are following up an iconic film that for fhe most part is still very prominent in modern media.
Space Jam has, for better or for worse, remained one of the most iconic films every made, if not for its premise alone. And when they announced a sequel it was only inevitable that people compare it to the original because, let's face it, we want the new film to live up to the original.
We want this new shiny film to live up to the film we all knew growing up as kids and adults, seeing the Tunes on a basketball court for the first time back in the 90s. And frankly, this film did not do that for me.
This film, to me, wants to be what Space Jam already is. But it felt the need to try and thats the first step it failed; it wanted to be hip and aware and make loads of refferences to the original
This film has a similar issue to Ghostbusters:Answer the Call I think, where in it wants to stand on its own two feet, but jt cant help but constantly remind us of a much superior film. We know they've done this before you don't have to keep saying it "We need help with a basketball game Lola!" Been there! Done that!" "So you want me to help you win a high stakes basketball game? One that could very well decide both our fates? Hmmmmm where have I seen that before?"
This film is like that one kid in class who already proved he was right, and is still trying to prove he was right.
If you think this film is great and you enjoy it just as much as the original that's perfectly fine, I'm not gonna try to overshadow your opinions, I just want to share mine.
In the end, I'm gonna rate this film a solid 4/10 (and most of that 4 is the comedy and the animation and the Tunes themselves.) Can you watch this just for the Tunes? Absolutely. Can you like this film more than me? Also absolutely. Do I think this film would've been worth it if I'd have seen it in theaters? No not at all I'm glad I waited for HBO Max.

1. My favourites have to be Rick, Morty and Jerry
2. I saw a post talking about how domestic Beth had the same nose shape as the Beth in the first seasons, so for that reason I'd say domestic Beth
3. I think that Rick C137 were definitely romantically involved. There's alot of proof and theories that I've read that have convinced me
4. Honestly, I think a good name would be Tammy, since, well, Tammy is dead and I feel like Bp would be the type of guy to name her after Tammy :,) But I'm not good with names so I can't really think of any other name lol
5. I've heard that the show will continue on to at least season 10, I feel like that's a good amount of seasons to properly end the story with a good enough finale
6. Smash, even when I first saw the show years ago, I knew that Rick C137 was a smash lol
7. My favourite villain has to be the devil, but if I had to choose the best executed, I'd pick King Jellybean. Although I do despise how Morty and Summer are constantly going through stuff that they shouldn't at their age (like dating older people and witnessing murders). I do think that this episode handled it better. First off, Rick doesn't force Morty to tell him and instantly realizes that something happened between him and King Jellybean, and he realizes that whatever it was, it really fucked Morty up. Instead of ignoring it like in the later seasons, he decides to give Morty what he wants, even if that means Rick doesn't get to prove Morty wrong. And I've gone through similar situations before, so seeing how Rick would react warms my heart.
8. Anatomy Park. I forgot what my other favourites were, but Anatomy Park will always be one of mine.
9. Vat of Acid. I have some others because I have autism, so it's unbearable to watch something that gives me second hand embarrassment. I especially hated the Vat of Acid episode because Rick was so cruel to Morty lol
10. Some of my least favourites are the fandom favourites so idk which one to pick :,)
11. The episode where he does this whole heist just so that Morty will continue to be his sidekick forever. Rick has done some fucked up shit (mostly to Morty) but this is just the first thing that comes up to mind, just because of how cruel this was. I mean, Morty even tells Rick that he'll just give up on his dreams and stay with Rick forever, like you can't tell me that this episode was fucked up, poor Morty
12. I do think it would be difficult because the side characters will be affected too, but considering how meta the show is and how portal travel-ly Rick is, I have no doubt that the writers will find some way to introduce the new voice actors or whatever they plan to do
13. Tysm @rickxation for tagging me 🥹 @thesoftboiledegg is one of the first ppl that followed me and I love their theories sm (I would tag some more but the ppl I reblogged from already mentioned some pretty cool blogs)
14. Morty, Rick then Jerry (in order). To most people it is confusing how I relate to all three but I've read some theories or posts that explain how they are like each other sometimes. Also I may be projecting but I headcanon Jerry as autistic, he's always made fun of (by his own family) and often can't read the room and some other stuff.
15. I haven't seen the show in awhile so I don't remember many bits. I think one of my favourite bits is in the episode, Rickdependence Spray. Although the whole idea of the episode was stupid, it still managed to make me laugh. There were tons of jokes that stuck to me, like the fact that one of the people said it was a "text-book trebuchet" after Morty said that no one would know the difference. And I'm a huge fan of occurring bits/jokes, so seeing Morty being called a boy that never lies the whole episode until the reveal, was funny to me.
16. Season 2/3

My answers:
Rick! 🪶
Space Beth. I just get that vibe.
I personally don't think so, but I think it's possible. They definitely had a close relationship of some kind judging by what C-137's said about letting him in.
@theresonlyzuul suggested Birdtammy, which sounds like something Bird Person would do!
Adult Swim ordered 10 seasons around the time that season three aired, so--that many.
Pass, but if I were into men, I'd think about it 🤔
Supernova. She's so perfectly evil.
Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind, but Rickmurai Jack is a close second.
M. Night Shaym-aliens! That is the dumbest episode I've ever seen. I think that all three episodes after the pilot are awful, which is not a popular opinion in this fandom. They rely too much on movie parodies and gross-out and cringe humor, even for Rick and Morty. "Haha lolz what if Rick and Morty were rappers wearing bling" Nope, not funny.
It was Jerry for a while, but I've started to like him in the past couple of seasons as he's dropped the "dopey dad" act.
Tie between what he did in The Rickshank Rickdemption and The Vat of Acid Episode, and he was a monster in season three in general.
I think it's possible. From what I understand, Justin Roiland was still involved with the show until season six (although his influence was gradually shrinking.) People say otherwise, but I think he's a good voice actor and knew those characters intimately. I could see the new voice actor trying too hard to sound like Rick and Morty, burping and stuttering every five seconds. I don't see him having a lot of involvement in the writing, either. But...Adult Swim made the right decision. Roiland seems like an awful person who doesn't deserve that series.
@theresonlyzuul, @dirty-bear-rick-sanchez, @graybluejay, @slothgender, @two-crows, @hazelnut-u-out, @stropharian-world (there are more, those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head right now.)
Rick but not in a bro-y way. We just share a lot of the same issues, minus the substance abuse.
"Sleepy Gary ruined my gag reflux" had me rolling. Best line of season six, which I didn't think was super funny overall, to be honest.
Season three. Not my personal favorite (I prefer seasons 4-6), but The Rickshank Rickdemption is the best episode in the series. Every episode is great and well-written--the only flaw is that I think season three tried a little too hard to be dark and edgy. Still, I don't think the series will ever capture those heights again. It'll have great individual episodes but not brilliant character studies in every one.
Season one. Again, an extremely unpopular opinion, lmao. It had a certain clean, logical vibe that the show didn't capture again, and it could be pretty funny, but some of those episodes have me cringing. Anatomy Park, Raising Gazorpazorp, M. Night Shaym-aliens!, Lawnmower Dog--a third of season one is unwatchable to me. When I rewatched it, I was like "How did I sit through this bullshit for the first time?"
I think I'd watch it eventually to see what happens, but...it would be hard. Hopefully, Adult Swim never goes that route. (I'm not expecting it because it sounds like he was insanely unprofessional and a nightmare to deal with.)
Don't know if I have a favorite, but I love it when Summer tells Jerry "You don't love somebody because you expect a reward. You love them unconditionally."
If I had to choose: Summer or Beth! But I wouldn't want to live in that household 😬
