Not saying you should write something like this but the cubs did a video last month where Kris Bryant saw who knew him better, his wife or his teammate/best friend. It was adorable and all I could think about was blue line
Ok, ok, ok, so you areâŚa mind reader. Because, literally, last week I was telling @peglegsjones about this exact video and she was like WRITE IT. So, this was basically the push I needed to do just that. Also, thank you for that and for being awesome and for thinking about anything Blue Line related ever. Itâs lovely. Also, Iâve had a week, so this was a very nice break from the real world. Here weâve got: ultra competitive Killian and Regina, vaguely embarrassed Robin, endlessly amused Emma and annoyed heâs not in the video Will. Â
âThere are not enough words in the English language to describe all the ways I absolutely and entirely hate this.â
âI meanâŚthat was a pretty good start, actually.â
Robin glared at him, but Killian just lifted his eyebrows, smile stretched wide enough across his face that the muscles there were starting to ache just a bit as well and he was going to gloat about this for, at least, the next two days.
If not longer.
Because he wasnât the focus of the video.
For the first time, in possibly, ever.
âShut up,â Robin snapped, and Killian couldnât mask his laugh. It was, he assumed, partially because of the video and mostly because of everything else and the regular season was over and the playoffs were about to start and he couldnât be the focus of this stupid, vaguely ridiculous promotional video because Emma couldnât go on camera.
They hadnât really confirmed anything yet.
And going on camera for some stupid, vaguely ridiculous promotional video would do just that. They were having a kid. And Killian could not stop smiling.
He might have been driving Robin insane.
âSpoilsport.â
âIâm going to kill you.â
âThat would not work on camera,â Killian pointed out, shifting in his designated seat. The chair squeaked. That seemed to offend Robin too. âAnd Lucas would be really annoyed.â
âOh, screw Lucas.â
âHey,â Ruby called, the clack of her heels echoing off the makeshift set theyâd set up in an empty office and Regina appeared determined to set some kind of record for eye rolls. She was smiling too though. So, maybe this was genuinely the most ridiculous thing theyâd done.
âThatâs rude,â Will added. He had his phone out already, arm stretched to a length that probably wasnât doing anything for the state of his shoulder. âLocksley, you literally host a show. This is not uncharted territory for you.â
âWhat are you doing here, Scarlet?â
âUhâŚIâm here to watch the show,â he said, as if it were obvious and it kind of was. âAnd to document.â
Killian narrowed his eyes, understanding rattling down his spine until it settled at the small of his back and it was kind of warm. In a nice sort of way that probably also had something to do with Emmaâs growing inability to hide the slight swell of her stomach. They were going to absolutely dominate the first series.
Sheâd laugh at his use of the word dominate.
Robin huffed â and Killian was going to dislocate something in his face, honestly. Will turned his phone towards him. âI know, I know,â Robin grumbled, waving both hands in the air and Ruby nearly growled when Regina moved onto his leg instead of her designated seat. âBut this isââ
ââHe doesnât like being the center of attention,â Regina finished knowingly. She slung an arm around his shoulder, far more relationship than Killian was entirely prepared for.
âYouâre going to be super competitive about this arenât you?â he asked.
Her smile widened. And Rubyâs growl turned into something more resembling a crow. Of victory. âI am going to absolutely destroy you,â Regina promised, fingers moving through the back of Robinâs hair when his head drooped forward.
The rules of the video were, relatively, simple. It was a trivia contest. About Robin Locksley. The name was stupid, Bae vs. Ballplayer â âItâs honestly so dumb, Lucas, it doesnât even make sense.â âAsk me again if I care, Locksley.â â but Killian supposed there was something to be said for alliteration and Robin had to ask the questions.
He looked furious about it.
On camera.
âGo,â Ruby called from just out of frame. She was slumped in a chair, legs stretched over Willâs and Killian could not possibly keep thinking the word ridiculous over and over again. Emma was going to be very annoyed she missed this.
She had fan events to schedule for the first series.
The one they were going to dominate.
âAnd stop doing that thing with your face, Cap,â Ruby continued.
Robin hummed. âYou are doing that thing with your face.â
âOh shut up and ask me questions so I can prove how much more I know about you than your wife does,â Killian shot back, and Regina had to twist into an entirely unnatural position to flip him off without it showing up on camera.
He grinned.
âI know more about you than both of your significant others,â Will yelled. âAlso, it didnât work, Gina! Theyâre going to have to spend a fortune on editing.â
âAnd muting you,â Regina said. âRobinâs pre-game meal is chicken andââ
ââWhole wheat pasta,â Killian cut in, laughing triumphantly when Reginaâs lips all but disappeared off her face.
Robin might have been blushing. âOk, but I did not actually ask a question.â
âThatâs because you suck as a host,â Will shouted. Ruby was doing a fairly awful job of trying to kick him without actually standing up.
Reginaâs lips were a medical marvel. âWhat kind of pasta, though?â
âWho would know that?â Killian argued. âNo one.â
âRigatoni.â
âNo.â
âYes.â
âSheâs right,â Robin said. âDid you really not know that, Cap?â
Killian scowled, pointedly ignoring whatever look Regina was throwing his direction and Emma was not going to be able to watch whatever Will was filming. His laugh kept making his arm shake. âNo one should know that,â Killian muttered. âBeing obsessed with a specific type of pasta is absurd.â
âYeah, well, this whole thing is absurd, soââ
ââCan we not insult the video while we are filming the video?â Ruby begged.
Robin winked. That was unexpected. âIf I can ask my questions now.â
âGod, you are so annoying!â
âThis was your idea,â Killian pointed out, and he couldnât help but recoil a little when Rubyâs head snapped his direction. Will dropped his phone.
âBecause it is adorable, Cap! Itâs funny and cute and Locksley hosts a thing! This makes sense!â
âWait, are we calling Locked In a thing, now?â Robin asked, sounding a little insulted and Will was barely staying on his chair.
Ruby groaned, body twisted in a way that could not have been comfortable. âShut up, shut up, shut up,â she mumbled, the words getting pushed into her knees. âLocksley, ask your stupid questions. Gina, I hope you absolutely destroy, Cap.â
âSeriously, was anything else ever really an option?â Regina asked. She smiled when Killian gaped at her. âRigatoni,â she repeated. âYouâre an unobservant idiot.â
Ruby hadnât ever lifted her head.
And Killian was fairly certain she said something that sounded a hell of a lot like this is going to go great under her breath. Will picked up his phone.
âAlright,â Robin sighed, a quick hand dragging across his face. âLetâs do this.â
âYou havenât actually watched it?â
Emma shook her head, slumping further into the small mountain of pillows behind her. âFirst of all, when have I had time? And second of all, I wasnât going to watch it without you. Câmon, give me a little credit.â
Killian nodded, that same warmth from before flaring back to life and the mattress creaked slightly when he climbed up next to her. He didnât try to pull himself even with her though â had started doing it weeks before and really as soon as they got back from the Games, if only because it always seemed to make her lips twitch slightly, resting his head just next to her stomach with his fingers drifting across her shirt and, eventually, her skin and it usually ended with soft laughter and softer kisses andâ
âHello! Welcome to Bae vs. Ballplayer. Today weâve got New York Rangers captain and occasionally good hockey player Killian Jones taking on an agent who represents some of the best and brightest names in sports, Regina Mills-Locksley inâŚâ
âHeâs almost laying it on too thick, isnât it?â Emma asked, fingers finding their way into Killianâs hair seemingly on instinct. He rolled his eyes. âAnd these graphics are ridiculous. Who did this?â
âTell Lucas that.â
âNo thanks.â
He chuckled, nudging his forehead against the curve of her hip. âYouâve got to keep going, love. The whole thing lastsââ
ââShit, does this video last eight minutes?â Killian hummed. âThatâs insane! Whoâs watching all of that?â
âPresumably you.â
âYeah, weâll see.â
Letâs see what todayâs contestants will be playing for!
âOh my God, thereâs a prize?â
Killian made another noise in the back of his throat, shifting so his arm wrapped around Emmaâs. He could feel her staring at the top of his head, all expectation and Robin Locksley trivia andâ
âThis one of a kind Robin Locksley fleece throw!â
Her whole body shook when she laughed, the sound ricocheting off the walls and the pillows and making that warmth flare all the brighter. âIâm going to be genuinely disappointed if you didnât win this,â she said, and he could hear her smile.
âSeriously, Swan, you canât keep asking for spoilers.â
âOk, but what is the point of being engaged to you if youâre not going to give me spoilers?â
âThatâs the most scathing question youâve ever asked me. Keep watching.
She mumbled a few curses under her breath. And kept watching.
âIâm going to ask you some questions, very easy questions, mind youââ
ââOh my God, Locksley, the opinions are not necessary.â
âAre you threatened by how simple this should be for you, Cap?â
âAsk the questions!â
Regina laughed softly, another far-too-knowing and distressingly confident smile directed at Killian. He stuck his tongue out at her. And was fairly certain he heard Ruby groan again.
âWhat is Robin Lockleyâs favorite holiday?â
âAre you seriously doing these in third person?â Killian balked, but Regina was already writing her answer and he knew the answer.
âAlright,â Robin said, nodding once like he was getting into the role and Ruby had made him put a suit jacket on over his jersey. Ridiculous, honestly. âWhat do you got, Cap?â
âThanksgiving.â
âNope.â
Killian threw the whiteboard. Willâs laugh was the single most obnoxious thing heâd ever heard. âWhat?â he shouted. âNo, that is a complete lie. You are lying because you want your wife to have your freaky face blanket!â
âItâs not Thanksgiving!â
âYou met Gina at Thanksgiving. At my house!â
Robin nodded, lower lip jutted out slightly, and ignored Killian complete. âGina, what is my favorite holiday?â
âNew Years,â Regina answered, turning her white board and sheâd drawn something that almost looked like fireworks as well.
âPerfect!â
âOh, you guys are lying,â Killian said, but Robin was already shaking his head and Regina was making that face again and the blanket honestly was stupid.
âChristmas,â Emma said, and Killian nearly hit his chin into her leg when he jerked his head up.
âWhat?â
âYou would have answered Christmas. Obviously.â
âObviously.â
âOk, but just repeating is kind of a confirmation, soâŚâ
He dropped his head. So he could kiss exactly where his lips landed. âThatâs true,â he mumbled, nosing up the hem of her shirt.
âI know it is.â
Dominate. A first-series sweep. He was positive.
âOk, so maybe Cap can redeem himself with this one,â Robin continued, several questions into the second round and Killian was losing by a number he had lost track of already. âIâm going to, against my free willââ
âShould the sound have just cut out like that?â Emma asked, voice softer than it had been when theyâd started the video. She was absolutely falling asleep.
âThatâs when Lucas detailed all the ways she was going to rip Lockleyâs left arm off if he didnât stop complaining.â
âJust his left arm?â
âYup.â
âHuh.â
âYou get to ask me a question where I have to choose one of you,â Robin explained. âWhoever I pick gets fifty points and itâs going to be Gina every time.â
Killian shook his head. âNope, nope, nope. Whoâs a better singer? Me or your wife?â
Robin blanched. Reginaâs lips disappeared again. Will had to stand up so he didnât dislocate something when he laughed.
âGoddamn, Cap,â Robin hissed. âI meanââ He glanced at Regina, twisting to make a face over his shoulder and if the whole thing was ridiculous and unexpected and several other hyperbolic words than her leaning forward to brush her lips over Robinâs was probably a sign of the apocalypse or something. Killian hoped that didnât mean anything bad. A good apocalypse.
âHow often would you say youâre singing, Jones?â Regina asked pointedly.
Killian shrugged. âMostly to annoy your husband in the morning.â
âI bet yourâe a real talent.â
âSo my fifty points prove.â
âAlright, alright, hereâs one. Robin, who do you think is smarter?â
âThatâs rude, Gina.â
âYou negotiate your own contract, then?â
Killian made a face, drawing a laugh out of Regina and the color had almost returned to Robinâs cheeks. âSheâs got a point, Cap.â
âThat is true,â Emma agreed.
Killian hipped at her waist. If only to get her to make that one, particular sound. And because he also agreed with Robin. âSwan. Thatâs an insult, love.â
âItâs not. Itâs a contract-based fact. Sheâs got that stare down.â
âI donât think thatâs a direct result of her intelligence.â
âEhâŚâ
âYou know, this does not bode well for the inherited intelligence of the kid.â
Emma made a noise, eyes closed when Killian glanced up, but her smile hadnât shifted and her fingers were still moving every few seconds. âIâm pretty confident in my own intelligence, so I think heâll be fine.â
âSmall miracles.â
âSomething like that. And Regina does have a college education. You knowâŚjust if weâre pointing out facts.â
He kissed her stomach before she restarted the video.
âAfter two rounds, the score is Cap at a pretty embarrassing 215 and Gina, 545.â
âItâs because youâre cheating!â
Regina shook her head. âIâm better than you.â
âYou honestly cannot win, Cap,â Robin said, still ignoring the banter and the arguing. âBut, uhâŚweâve got to do round three, so lightening round of fun facts about me, it is.â Killian groaned. âThatâs the spirit. You ready?â
âLetâs go.â
âWait, wait, wait,â Emma sputtered, jerking up and Killian grumbled when his neck moved a way he was not entirely prepared for. âAh, sorry sorry, they justâŚthey made you switch sets? How in-depth was this?â
âAre you not seeing the suit jacket Lockley had to wear?â
âYeah, thatâs fair.â
âOk, arm around the shoulder or hand holding?â
âWith me specifically or..â
âAnswer the question!â
âArm over the shoulder.â
âYup. Ok, rom coms or horror movies?â
âHistoric action movies with people who shot arrows.â
âYou are being difficult on purpose.â
âI donât know.â
âOk, well, thatâs no points.â
âI figured.â
âJump out of a plane or block a shot?â
âBlockâŚa shot?â
âNope.â
âWow, you are really bad at this,â Emma mumbled, exhaustion clinging to the words and there was a pile of game-used march sitting just inside their front door. âAnd youâd block a shot.â
âThatâs right.â
âI know it is.â
Killian grinned, another kiss and drifting fingers and it took a moment to move back up towards the pillows so he could tug the phone out of Emmaâs hand. He was ready for the objections, the scrunch of her nose and pull of her eyebrows, butââYou canât keep your eyes open, Swan.â
âIâm really disappointed you didnât want that blanket.â
âI think Regina would have beaten me with one of her shoes if I had.â
âDid she know about the jumping out of the plane?â
âApparently she and Locksley have talked about doing it after he retires. In detail.â
âHuh.â
âRight?â Killian asked, pulling Emma back against his side. It only took a moment for her to curl against him completely, legs twisted and hair in his face. âYou donât want to jump out of a plane, do you?â
âI absolutely do not.â
âGood.â
They fell asleep with the blankets pooled around their waist and no oneâs face inexplicably plastered across them.
The video got a ton of hits. More hits than just about anything else theyâd done in months, which thrilled Ruby and frustrated Will because he wasnât included and the first-round series against the Blue Jackets was absolutely going to be a sweep.
Killian was convinced.
And even more so when he walked to his locker before Game 1, a post-it note stuck to the inside wall with handwriting that was impossibly familiar.
Will finally showed me the video he took when you filmed. And you eat the same thing Locksley does because youâre codependent idiots, but youâd rather it be those little bow-shaped pasta things. Skate fast later.
He did. And scored. And Emma grinned at him as soon as he walked out of the locker room, arms crossed over the stomach that he swore was slightly bigger than it had been that morning andâ
âWas I right?â
Killian nodded. âTheyâre more fun when theyâre bow-shaped.â
âYuh huh.â
He kissed her. Or she kissed him. Or whatever. No one took video of it. At least not until there was more kissing a few games later, after an opening-series sweep.

Listen To Ariana Grandeâs âSound Of Musicâ
Genres in music are like branches of a tree. Music means the world to me. Without it, life would maintain no which means. Music is what colours the world. If there was no music, there can be no technique to preserve folks entertained, or completely happy. Life can be gray and flavorless. Everybody has their own type of music that hypes them, calms them or helps them. Pop, rock, classical, rap, reggae techno are only a few varieties of music that fill the world. Music is what I worth most as a result of it's what makes the world go round. The following on our checklist is a well-liked and proficient reggae and dancehall artist Busy Signal. His foremost image is mature lyrics and because of them this musician has gained such recognition across the globe. His dancehall hits include the next works: Stay So", Desk Speak", In every single place", and Go Once more". Sub-genres are sometimes outlined by way of fashion. For example, the style of song has sub-genres such as rock song, polyphonic song, musical theater track, hymn, http://www.audio-transcoder.com and so on. Another example is the connection between opera and rock opera. I actually take pleasure in listening to nation music. I've lived on a ranch all my life and that is what you play in a giant truck. I don't take care of all this rap music. I can not even understand what their saying. With country you'll be able to and it's a story in a track. Banda is a mix of just about all the genres of the Mexican music, like the corridos, boleros, baladas, cumbias, rancheras, and also rock and pop. Banda is basically a giant brass-based mostly type of music that primarily depends on percussion. It originated in the Sinaloa state of Mexico. Around 10 to twenty individuals are present in a band. The American band was banned for a long time in Australia, in 1996 the nation stopped the sale of any Cannibal Corpse recordings and all copies had to be stripped from music stores. The ban lasted ten years until it was lifted in 2006. A sub-genre of pop in UK that extensively used digital keyboards, elaborate arrangements and borrowed components from soul music. Bands reminiscent of Swing Out Sister (above) have been widespread in the Nineteen Eighties. The genre has recently seen a revival, due to artistes corresponding to Jessie Ware. YouTube Music is a new music streaming service with the official audio, official video, playlists and artist stations. Plus, the rest of the story you possibly can't find anywhere else: dwell performances, remixes and extra. Open the World of Music. It is all right here. Now, you understand, when you think about that jazz is nice American music, it's been 4 or five many years, I think 1963, since jazz won record of the 12 months for Grammy presentation. I imply, that is astonishing to me. So maybe there is a beacon of light now that has been shined upon us to maybe make people look a bit bit extra deeply into what art is really about. What it means. And I'm so blissful that Herbie received this document as a result of it was the one jazz record nominated for report of the yr. Indie Music: Do you like in search of out obscure bands and indie artists? Fans of the indie style are typically introverted, mental, and creative. In accordance with researchers, they also are typically much less hardworking and less mild. Passivity, anxiousness, and low shallowness are different common personality characteristics. mento-reggae , as parts of each Jamaican music have been mixed. Some middle interval mento LPs had been fairly bland, corresponding to " Yellow Fowl " by the promisingly named Jamaica Duke and the Mento Swingers, and the aforementioned Wrigglers LP. The good majority of the recordings from the middle period had been of old mento songs, with sundry other covers. Nearly not one of the songs on these LPs appear to have been written during this period. I can chuckle, but when my children someday ask my what I did within the genre wars I'll must admit that there's blood on my hands, too. Earlier in 2000, I might set up Popjustice , a weblog that I hoped would battle the nook for respectable pop music. And early on this was pitched as a battle towards guitar music. Puerile could be one charitable manner of describing those early years: at one point, Popjustice's homepage featured Richard Ashcroft's face with the word TWAT" written across it. While that will or could not have been true, it is clear now that it had no bearing on whether or not or not the third Steps album was a triumph (which, for the document, it was).
Comparing the confusion matrix in desk 10 and the confusion matrix for the quadratic Bayesian classifier utilizing PCA in table 5 , it is attention-grabbing to notice that: in the former, cluster 1 comprises appreciable art works from the four genres (25 from blues, 32 from bossa nova, 46 from reggae and 30 from rock), in a total of 133 art works; in the latter, a substantial number of artwork works from blues (22), bossa nova (23) and rock (31) had been misclassified as reggae, in a total of 146 artwork works belonging to this class. Because of this the PCA illustration was not environment friendly in discriminating reggae from the other genres, whereas cluster 1 was the one that the majority intermixed art works from all courses. 1971 music Hocus Pocus was high within the charts in various nations. It was carried out by Dutch progressive rock band Focus, made up of performers from the pit band for the Dutch production of the rock musical Hair. 3) non-musical sound consists of unstructured noises (we call it noise). When was the final time Brittney Spears or Madonna gave you a free album on-line? 50 Cent helped to revolutionize the music biz by dropping free mixtapes, and ever since, hip-hop followers have gotten some real classics and by no means needed to pay a dime. Projects like Drake' s So Far Gone and Wiz Khalifa's Kush and Orange Juice were literal presents. In actual fact, I see intonation as a type of inverse of rhythm. For classical musicians it is a topic of years of true obsession, and like rhythm in jazz, classical musicians view intonation as a grid. You might think of jazz musicians, conversely, as having a more expressive approach to intonation. It isn't necessarily even aware, however with saxophone players specifically a sort of idiosyncratic intonation can change into an identifiable function. I've seen classical musicians hearken to Coltrane from his quartet interval, for example, and actually burst out laughing on the intonation. But as any Coltrane aficionado with some technical understanding would agree, that sharp, nearly pinched quality in the excessive register is an integral a part of the surging angst of the Coltrane sound.

The Princess of Emptiness - A Lifepath
I got bored and wrote up a GMD-style lifepath for my OC, Sadako Hayashi, the Princess of Emptiness!
The Princess/Prince of Emptiness
Campaign: Looking Glass Heart Academics Skill: Average Sports Skill: Average Favorite Foods: Mozzarella Sticks, Mochi, and Rose Tea Blood Type: O Animal: Owl Age: 17 Genres: Pastoral, Fairy Tales, Immersive Fantasy
Step 1: Choose Your Name
Hello, and welcome to the world of Looking Glass Heart! You're a brilliant glass-maker, part of the Hayashi family. You easily develop crushes on everyone you meet, and everything in the world interests you! It's all so exciting! Everything's so fun! (The sad secret you don't realize yet though is that before too long, you're going to stop feeling that way about things. The world is going to chew you up and spit you back out, and I'm sorry that that's going to happen to you. Please don't blame me for it!) At your core, you're a simple ordinary Fortitude kid. You work hard, and you help people. You have a place you're keeping, somewhere good and beautiful, where people can come to be accepted and happy and well-taken care. A Good Place. A place where people are safe. A place where people are loved. You fuel this place primarily on your love for the people around you. If this is sounding too normal, I should point out now that there's a lot of weird stuff about you too. Your house is probably haunted. One of your moms was a Rider, so your eyes are full of stars. (Your relationship with your other mom is a bit strained because of that.) You have the magical ability to take people's hearts out of their chests and understand them deeply by looking into their hearts. Everything about you seem normal and mundane, but there's a lot that's hidden that's really weird, and a lot of it is harbingers of what's going to come, harbingers of who you're going to become. But enough about that for now! Are you... ⢠...Sadako Hayashi, the Princess of Emptiness? ⢠âŚJiro Hayashi, the Prince of Emptiness? ⢠...some other Hayashi altogether? Sorry, Jiro! This book is going to assume you're Sadako Hayashi, a girl. But swap the gender and the name and you should find this a useful document about yourself!
Part 2: Choose What You're Becoming
Remember how a little while back I mentioned that bad things are going to happen to you? Remember when I said the world was going to chew you up and spit you back out? That's going to change you into something that doesn't belong in the world. It's going to change you into something at odds with the world. You're going to suffer, but it's all going to have a point at the end, because what you're becoming has a purpose. And most of all, what you're becoming is what you were always meant to be. Will you be... ⢠...an Excrucian Strategist (the default option), someone who believes that the world is sick and must be destroyed so that people can exist outside of it and be happy? ⢠...an Excrucian Deceiver, someone who believes the world is a lie and must be removed to free everyone from it? ⢠...an Excrucian Warmain, who's still trying to figure out what's the matter with the world, and who is devoted to overturning every stone and examining each and every person to work it out? ⢠...an apocalypse in human form, a thing that will one day tear down the world? ⢠...a glass dragon who will eat the world's heart? ⢠âŚa powerful witch of the Outside who wants to drown the rest of the world? ⢠...a prophet of doomsday? ⢠âŚor something else altogether?
Part 3: Choose Your Initial Hobbies
I mentioned before that you get interested in a lot of things, because you find everything beautiful and exciting. That means you're probably already interested in a lot of stuff. We need to define what you're into now (in addition to glass-making, of course) before you decide later what else you're going to get interested in! Are you interested in... ⢠...sewing? ⢠...art? ⢠...cosplay? ⢠âŚphotography? ⢠âŚplastic modeling? ⢠...bass guitar? ⢠...painting? ⢠...fashion? ⢠...calligraphy? ⢠...archery? ⢠...role-playing games? ⢠...video games? ⢠...philosophy? ⢠...manga? ⢠...superhero comics? ⢠...sailing? ⢠...knitting? ⢠...animation? ⢠...scrapbooking? ⢠...stamp collecting? ⢠...fishing? ⢠...or something else altogether? You'll want to pick a few things, maybe 3-5. Doing things excites you a lot!
Part 4: Choose Your Favorite Scenes
Are you most often seen... [Purple]...glass-making? [Purple]...doing chores? [Purple]...spending time with your family? [Purple]...hanging out with friends? [Purple]...tending to things in the Good Place? [Purple]...working at your family's shrine? [Silver]...reading manga? [Silver]...daydreaming about one of your many crushes? [Silver]...worrying about the future? [Red]...looking out at the ocean all starry-eyed and filled with wonder? [Red]...taking care of a friend who's hurting? [Gold]...working obsessively on your newest hobby? [Blue]...experimenting with Heart Magic? [Black]...experiencing surreal harbingers of what you're going to become? Pick 2-3 favorites to help you figure out what you might be doing when you're not sure what to do in a scene.
Part 5: Review Your Goals
You've got a lot to work on with your Good Place. You've got a lot of friends to take care of. But that's not the biggest thing you're worried about right now. You're graduating high school in a few months, and you're not ready for that at all. You're going to be an adult, and that has you really scared. Everyone has all these expectations of you, and you don't know how to meet them. People are starting to treat you like an adult already, but you feel like just a big kid inside. Sometimes worry about that overwhelms you, and then it's made even worse when you think about the fact that after you graduate, a lot of your friends are probably going to go their separate ways and you won't see them nearly so often. So right now you're focused quite a lot on figuring out what to do about that. You're trying to make sense of the whole idea of what you're going to be doing as an adult. Do you want to keep being a shrine maiden? Do you want to open your own glass-making shop? Or do you maybe want something weird and unexpected? Maybe you want to go on a great adventure. Maybe you want to destroy the world! (Although you're fairly certain you don't want that last one, at least not right now.)
Part 6: Choose Your Connections
There's a few people you're close to from the start. Your starting Connections are typically as follows: ⢠The Good Boyfriend (or Girlfriend) 3. You grew up with Matteus. He's kind of your rival, but the whole rival thing wears thin at times. You also have a giant crush on him. ⢠Jiro Hayashi (or Sadako, if you're Jiro) 2. You have a little brother (or sister). You care about them a lot, and want them to be safe. ⢠Junko Hayashi 2. You're really close to your grandmother. ⢠Katsumi Hayashi 1. You love your mom, but things are kind of strained with her. You think it's probably because you remind her of her ex-girlfriend, who was a Rider. You can get rid of these Connections later if you don't want them or they start to not make sense. Talk to the other players about your relationship with their characters. If someone agrees that you should feel comfortable around their PC and have a fair amount of knowledge about how to take care of them, you can get a free level 1-2 Connection to their character as well! You can improve these Connections later, if you want. (Knowing you, Sadako, you probably do want!)
Step 7: Review Your Powers
You have the following special abilities. They might be magic, or some piece of what you're becoming that's working within you before you've even become it. Either way, they're things you know how to do. ⢠There's a sense of what you're going to become that lingers on you. People notice it. ⢠You can pick up on little bits of insight from your future self. ⢠You can create blessings based around a theme, small things that you and other can people can do now and then. ⢠You can move around quickly, escaping stressful situations with ease. ⢠You're almost supernaturally good at caring for your friends. ⢠You can sense what's going on with your friends in some capacity, and you can help them a little bit while they're thinking of you. ⢠You can understand someone a little intuitively now and then. ⢠You can sense when your friends need you. ⢠You can help your friends do some really cool stuff. ⢠With some help from your friends, you can do some really cool stuff too!

Why DotEmu Has Me Worried About Windjammers On The PS4
Early in 1994, an unassuming little game named Windjammers made its way to arcades. Developed by Data East for the Neo Geo Multi Video System, Windjammers is essentially high-octane video air hockey. Players pick one of six characters with different skills and shots, one of six courts of different sizes and layouts, and proceed to volley a frisbee back and forth with the hopes of jamming it past their opponent and into the goal. Itâs a game thatâs dead simple to pick up and play, but that simplicity masks an amount of depth to its mechanics and variety in a playerâs options that makes Windjammers something special. When two skilled competitors go at it throwing rapid fire shots, counter-shots, trick shots, super shots and counter-super shots, the game is an edge-of-your-seat adrenaline pumping blur. Unfortunately, most people just didnât seem to catch on to that hidden layer, and Windjammers was generally met with a middling reaction.
As time went on and arcade game emulation became easier, Windjammers gained a bit of a cult classic status. For a good long while it was a side-tournament staple in the fighting game community, and a French community had rallied around it and were doing their thing, but it wasnât until website about video games Giant Bomb started playing it in 2013 that North American awareness of the game really started picking up. As much as I would like to be a cool on-line guy and say that I was way into it before that, I was only tangentially aware of the game prior to Giant Bombâs coverage (I was more of a Street Hoop guy when it came to weird Data East Neo Geo sports games, for whatever reason). Nevertheless, itâs a game I feel like Iâve been a fan of for a long time, if that makes any sense. Itâs an immediately and deeply lovable game.
The only port Windjammers has ever had as of this writing was a Japan-exclusive release on the Wii Virtual Console in 2010. This release eventually got delisted in late 2013, shortly after Giant Bombâs coverage started strangely enough. Ever since then, thereâs been a steady rumbling of people asking for the game to come to modern systems with online play, mainly aimed at PlayStationâs Third Party Production team. After all, theyâre the guys who got us a Final Fantasy 7 remake and Shenmue 3, right? If anyone can get this weird obscure frisbee game out of whatever licensing hell it fell into following the death of Data East and years of turmoil SNK has gone through, they could! Well, at PlayStation Experience 2016â˛s showcase event it finally happened. The lights dimmed, a familiar tune started playing, and there it was on the big screen: Windjammers was coming to the PlayStation 4. The wish had been granted.
And then the monkeyâs paw curled.
Pictured above is the banner for the Windjammers booth at PlayStation Experience 2016, and pictured in the zoom-in of that banner is the one thing powerful enough to instantly turn a retro video game fanâs excitement into dread: the logo of French video game company DotEmu. Founded in 2007, DotEmu is a company that specializes in bringing old video games to not-so-old platforms. Over their nearly 10 years of existence theyâve built up a network of connections with Japanese developers and rightsholders and have been responsible for bringing a sizable amount of classic games to various platforms (an exact list is hard to compile, as even their websiteâs game list is clearly incomplete). The rub here is that, despite the years of experience and web of trusted business partners, DotEmu consistently puts out products that can be described as poor at best.
Generally not poor in flashy, attention grabbing ways mind you. Theyâre competent enough that a passerby could go âsure, thatâs Metal Slug!â, but for the people who love and care about these classic games the vast majority of DotEmuâs output may as well have shipped with crash bugs. Itâs not just old game obsessives that suffer either as, even though it may be difficult to point out specific shortcomings without side-by-side comparisons, the way DotEmuâs ports are busted have an undeniable effect on the way these games play at even the most casual levels. These problems arenât flukes, theyâre consistent and documentable, but they often go ignored in media coverage of the company and general discussion of their releases.Â
I donât think this is due to any sort of nefarious intent or anything, but rather a lack of education about the subject. Most of the complaints are loosely organized tweets, or squirreled away in niche message boards, and the informative reviews that hit Steam are easy to lose among the less-than-informative ones. The reason I set out to write this article was to attempt to find and document the issues plaguing DotEmuâs ports (with a focus on their Neo Geo offerings as they pertain more to Windjammers) and, most importantly, put everything somewhere easily viewable and shareable. With that mission in mind, I jumped into the Steam version of one of my favorite arcade games: Metal Slug 3.
The Steam version of Metal Slug 3 was, unbeknownst to me at the time, my first brush with DotEmu. I ran through it once back in mid-2014 and here in 2017 all I could recall was that it was the worst port of the game I had ever played, so it was a natural pick to start off with. I played the Steam release simultaneously with the game running in MAME, trading off every other level, just to make sure I was getting all the facts straight. The most immediately apparent issue with the Steam release is that the audio is wrong on almost every level. Most of the sound effects are off in different ways, the worst of them reduced to nothing but shrill screeches, and the music is mangled in one of the oddest ways Iâve ever experienced. It has trouble keeping a steady beat, but it doesnât quite skip and instead sort of tries to rush back to where itâs supposed to be. It almost makes it seem like the music is being performed by some sort of drunken orchestra, or as if someone were briefly holding back the turntable of a record player in the few cases where it seemed to affect the pitch. Iâve taken the liberty of making a video comparing the music of both versions, below.
youtube
The other two big issues are slightly more subtle, but much more impactful on the gameplay itself. First off, the Steam version drops frames like crazy, which means the game consistently stutters and jumps around erratically. Metal Slug 3 is pretty chaotic so it can be a little tough to pick out amidst the explosions, but the DotEmu port drops frames at all times, even during the gameâs rare quiet moments. I found that the tiled background of Stage 3â˛s pre-sub cave area offered the most readily visible comparison (below). [UPDATE 1/12/17: This is actually an issue with frame-pacing rather than dropping according to John Linneman of Digital Foundry. Frame-pacing issues are where, rather than completely skipping over frames of the game, individual frames will stay on screen for longer or shorter than theyâre supposed to. The end result is still a stuttering, choppy mess.]
youtube
This problem only exacerbates the next issue: the Steam version has input lag. Input lag means, well, thereâs a lag on your inputs. You press a button and it takes a little bit longer for the corresponding action to happen on screen. Donât know why, donât know how, but there is a slight amount of input lag present in the DotEmu port that just isnât there in the MAME version. Weirdly enough it wasnât anything visual that tipped me off, but instead something auditory. The gap between pressing the fire button and hearing the gunshot sound effect is a bit wider in the Steam version, and itâs fairly noticeable when youâre going back and forth between versions.
These two issues are bad enough alone, but when combined it causes the game to feel muddy and unresponsive when in actuality itâs quite snappy. Easily dodgeable attacks suddenly become less so, simple actions such as jumping and shooting below you become more difficult to perform effectively, and the game is much more likely to register jumping and shooting as a simultaneous press of A+B, making you accidentally activate your kamikaze Slug Attack while in a vehicle. This isnât any sort of scientific evidence, and I certainly wasnât playing amazingly in either version of the game, but I did demonstrably worse in my playthrough of the Steam version and I attribute that to the generally awful feel of the controls.
The one nice thing I can say about DotEmuâs port is that the online play seems, from my extremely limited experience, totally fine. I played the first couple of levels with a friend and it was smooth throughout. The portâs underlying problems still existed, and Iâm not sure how the netcode would hold up to something more timing intensive like a versus game, but online play did not accentuate any of the portâs issues from what I could tell.
A brief check-in with the Steam port of Metal Slug X revealed that it, unsurprisingly, has the exact same problems Metal Slug 3 has. This is where my firsthand experience with DotEmuâs products ends, because Iâm not enough of a sucker to buy three bad versions of old games. Just two. Craving more info, I put out the call to my wonderful, smart, definitely non-sucker Twitter followers. What follows is everything I was able to gather from them.
Now, I love Metal Slug 3, but Iâm far from an absolute expert on it. There are people who have played the game for longer than I have and are way better at it than I am. I doubt the same can be said for friend of the site LordBBH regarding Shock Troopers. One of his favorite games of all time, BBH has probably put more hours into playing Shock Troopers than anyone on the planet (and plenty of those hours are on video). He knows the game inside and out, and he found all of the same issues in Shock Troopers that I found in the Metal Slugs, but he also stumbled upon a couple of things I would have never even thought to check. Such as the difficulty settings, for instance. Every Neo Geo game has about 8 or so different difficulty options that you can change in the system settings, but DotEmuâs ports have just four: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Very Hard. Whereas the original release of Shock Troopers adjusted the damage you take depending on what difficulty you were playing on, the difficulty options in the Steam version, from what LordBBH can tell, do... absolutely nothing. If it were anyone else I would chalk it up to not knowing the game well enough to spot the differences, but this guy knows.
Thereâs also another issue thatâs entirely specific to Shock Troopers and definitely worth noting. There were two versions of the game, and the thing with Shock Troopers is you can either select one character or a team of three that you can freely swap between in-level. In whatâs generally considered the âmainâ version of the game, a team has individual life bars for each character. In the other version, the whole team shares a single life bar. This minimizes the difference between playing as a team and playing as a single character, and the version of the game that uses the shared life bar is treated as more of a curiosity than a thing people play. The DotEmu port uses the single life bar version, and thereâs no option to switch to the other one. This is probably an easy thing to overlook if youâre not, you know, a company in charge of porting the game to a different platform. But if you are, it shows a real lack of knowledge and care for your product in my eyes.
If you want a really, really long look at LordBBH playing and discussing the Steam version of Shock Troopers (and a little bit of the next game), he uploaded a video of it to his YouTube channel. For now though, letâs move on.
Twinkle Star Sprites is a cute versus shoot âem up game where players compete to clear out the enemies on their side of the screen and launch attacks at the other player. According to the info I received, the Steam version has all the general problems of the previously discussed games, but with a couple of fun unique wrinkles. First of all, the online leaderboards report impossible scores. Like, scores in the billions. For a while people werenât sure whether it was a bug or people were hacking, but it turns out the leaderboards take the sum of all scores attained in all the versus matches youâve played and post that. This makes the feature useless for competition, as you can rack up higher and higher scores simply by playing more.Â
The other thing I was told is by far the weirdest one Iâve heard. While the previously mentioned useless difficulty options actually do something in Twinkle Star Sprites, what they do is increase the frame rate. The game itself is unaltered, itâs just sped up. I have absolutely no clue how or why this would happen, and I didnât receive details on how much each option increases it by, but this is apparently a real thing that happens and I kind of canât believe it.[UPDATE 1/12/17: My source on this has gotten back to me with claims that this does not actually happen. Whether or not it never did or was fixed in a patch is unknown. The difficulty settings currently do nothing. Leaving everything here for transparency.]
With that weâve gone through all the specific examples I was told about and could find on my own, so that about wraps up the âwhatâ of this whole situation (for now). Now we have to move on to the âwhyâ. Why are these ports so consistently shoddy? Why does a company that positions itself as trying to make sure classic games donât âget lostâ continue to bungle everything in both the most basic and most baffling ways? The answer to that isnât exactly clear. We could look at the case of DotEmu (legally, donât start) using Nebula, an emulator last updated in 2007, for their 2015 Neo Geo Humble Bundle releases and question their competency. We could look at stuff like the apparently lacking Heroes of Might and Magic 3 HD release or the fact that their promotional Windjammers PS4 theme contains no actual elements from Windjammers and question their passion. We could look at any number of things and take any number of guesses, but I have a feeling the real reason for all of it is simple: they can get away with it. You can technically play through everything beginning to end, and the amount of people who care about these games to the point of easily noticing and articulating these flaws is minuscule compared to the greater number of players. Major outlets arenât going to report on the input lag of a specific port of a 17 year old game. Negative Steam reviews complaining about frame drops arenât going to drown out the people going âjust like my child days!â and giving a thumbs up (except in the case of specific franchises where obsessives outnumber nostalgia fiends). The people just coming to these games for the first time arenât going to have the frame of reference to know something is wrong, for all they can tell the game just normally sounds like that. DotEmu can phone it in because thereâs not enough people to get the word out that theyâre calling collect.
As for the final question:Â âwhereâ does all this leave the PlayStation 4 port of Windjammers? Only time will tell. DotEmu has been talking up how theyâve had the French Windjammers community constantly playtesting and giving feedback to make sure they get things right, but then again David Sirlin said the same thing about having pro players help with the development of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Itâs just not enough of an assurance to make me overlook the companyâs extremely rough track record. I hope they prove me wrong and knock it out of the park. I would love to have an official and fully featured re-release of this game that I love, but Iâm not holding my breath. My moneyâs on it being another in a line of DotEmu botch jobs. For a company supposedly devoted to making sure old games arenât forgotten, itâs almost ironic that theyâve so consistently helped make sure theyâre something even worse: misremembered.
Did I miss something? Get something completely wrong? Do you have something to add about a different game? Let me know! I want to update this article with as much relevant and accurate information as possible! Feel free to get at me on Twitter or send me an email.

Accepted - Rodolphus Lestrange
theelderlestrange
submitted:
OOC Information:
Name/Age/Timezone - Isa / 25 / EST
Activity Level - Roughly 6/10; I have a fairly demanding job during the week, but am around on the weekends and during nights!
Ships/Anti-Ships - Honestly totally open here! I do see Rodolphus and Bellatrixâs marriage as more a marriage of politics/convenience rather than love, but am super flexible in my plotting depending on chemistry/other playersâ canon, etc.
Did you read the rules? - I did!
IC Information:
Character Name - Rodolphus Lestrange
Age/Birthdate - 28; January 11th
Faceclaim - Sean Teale; Rami Malek; Jack Falahee
Occupation - Rodolphus works for the Ministry of Magic as an Unspeakable, and annoyingly for him, it was not his first choice. Originally, Rodolphus had expressed to his father that he wanted to work for the International Magical Office of Law, looking to oversee the new petitions being put through. A quick conversation with his father ensured him that he was not needed there, ears already placed within that area of the Ministry. The Department of Mysteries was an interesting location, the Lestrange soon found, and he understood the necessity for where he was placed, able to pass on important information as well as overhearing things that were definitely relevant with his other line of work â being a Death Eater.
Blood Status - Pureblood
Traits âŚ
+ Charming: While Rodolphus lacks genuine sincerity, he is good at faking it. He prides himself on being charismatic, reading the mood of the room and changing his attitude accordingly. He is able to pull out the charm in order to achieve his goals, but the entire charade has become second nature to him.
+ Dutiful: What leads Rodolphus in life is duty. Heâs always been one to do just about anything to make his father proud and always step up to accept a challenge. Itâs the way heâs been since day one, and heâs much better at it than his younger brother. Perhaps Rabastan is one of the reasons Rodolphus is so hard on himself. Everyone knows that as an heir of such an important family there is a lot rested upon Rodolphusâ shoulders, but itâs more than that. Itâs like heâs trying to make up for his brothers slacking as of late. The two boys used to compete with each other over just about everything; Mr. Lestrange thought both boys would strive to be better if there was a competition with it, but Rodolphus always came out on the top. It seemed that after awhile Rabastan just gave up and let his brother do what needs to be done without caring that he still has his own responsibilities. Rodolphus doesnât want to come off that way, so he always pushes himself to do his best.
+ Loyal: Â He may not get too close to people, but the ones he does keep close are people he would never betray. If Rodolphus promises something he will honor it because heâs very blunt about things, meaning he wouldnât have lied just to get someone off his back.
- Superficial: Outer beauty and how one presents themselves means a lot to Rodolphus. Coming from a family with money and power, he is quick to tell those who do not match his standards to get out of his sight.
- Self-Indulgent: Rodolphus has more money than any person needs, but that doesnât mean he doesnât spend it. His residence is too big for one person, the price of his suits would make many pass out where they stood. He finds comforts in material items, and likes to show off when he comes into work, making a point that he is a man in charge.
- Calculating: Rodolphus can memorize and analyze. It works well for reading hundreds of pages of documents and finding out what in the stack of information is actually important. It works well for finding the weak parts in the wards around a house and either blowing them up or carefully patching them. Heâs meticulous. Thatâs helped him become valuable to the Dark Lord quite quicklyâ finding every shred of evidence and wiping it out. Writing up complicated plans with contingency after contingency. Heâs the person you want for strategy, be it preparing for a court case or a murder.
Patronus - Jackal
Boggart - Rodolphusâ greatest fear is literally fear itself, or more particular, of being so afraid that he is incapable of acting. This manifests itself in the form of ropes that bind and blind him.
Key Points -
EARLY CHILDHOOD
Rodolphus came to this world just like any other child. Just because people may see him as a monster in his later years, he was not born as the Devilâs spawn. He came into the world crying and laughed at things just like every other baby. Rodolphus Lestrange was full of joy and life, no matter what people may believe. He was not born as a the cold and cruel man people are used to seeing, but instead was shaped to be that way from his father mainly. The Lestrange family may be cruel and unforgiving, but Mr. Lestrange never hurt his children physically. He certainly let them know when they did something wrong, and perhaps hearing him yell stung more than any slap across the face, but he never lifted a hand or wand at his children. This doesnât mean he was kind.
CHILDHOOD ILLNESS
When Rodolphus was six years old, he began to feel a little under the weather. Heâd been at to visit his Grandfather at St Mungoâs, who due to his age, was susceptible to many illnesses. Unknown to any of the Lestrange family, he already had a strain of Dragon Pox in his system, but the care at Mungoâs had kept him from showing symptoms. Rodolphus was not so lucky. It had started off as a fever, with his mother force feeding him soup and various potions in an attempt to make him well again. When rashes began to appear, and Rodolphus grabbed his head in extreme agony before passing out, they knew it was far more serious. The Dragon Pox had already caused some of his organs to shut down, and bleeding had occurred under the skin where purple lumps had started to form.
Thankfully, the staff at St Mungoâs were quick to diagnose him and got him set on the right treatment immediately. It took Rodolphus six months to recover completely, and his skin held a green tint up until a week before his eighth birthday. Since he was able to comprehend what had happened to him, Rodolphus has been obsessed with keeping himself healthy, from proper diet to physical exercise. And since the nearly fatal incident, Rodolphus Lestrange has never been ill.
SORTING
Rodolphus was never particularly concerned as to where he should get sorted when he attended Hogwarts. The eleven year old had already had many lessons with his father introducing discipline, the meaning of purity and how to make sure he stayed worthy. At eleven, the Lestrange heir had voiced his indifference towards the entire event, as long as he was not sorted into Hufflepuff, due to its reputation, perhaps falsely, of being weak. What he had not expected, was to sit there, with the gaze of students and the hushed whispers, as the hat took an entire two and a half minutes to decide where it would place him. Rodolphus did not hope for Slytherin, nor did he particularly mind being placed there.
He knew the placement would please his father the most, but he was also aware that a Ravenclaw sorting would not have been objected either, with the house favoring scholars. Still, the cheers and loud applause that followed his sorting made him feel somewhat welcome, although he did not realise how much those two and a half minutes would come back to haunt him. When he argued with members of his house, and they accused him of not being a true Slytherin. When rumors spread that he begged the hat to place him in the house of Snakes. But the doubts stayed with him, and only fueled his future obsession with proving his worth.
FIRST INITIATION
Rodolphus had always known that, on some level, he was different. He is not like most of the students at Hogwarts, and different to many of the witches and wizards in Diagon Alley and the wider wizarding world. He does not think the same way, or react the same way. But he was always so similar to his father, and he had never had much of a reason to believe that Rabastan was any different to him â or at least, not in a way that was not simply the subtle way the all people were individuals â and so he had never given it much thought. When they were young, the two boys had been quite similar in fact; driven, vying for the attention of their father, competing to be the better Lestrange.
As they aged, however, it became apparent that the brothers were quite different, and not just because Rabastanâs behaviour changed. It seemed instead that they viewed life through very different lenses. Rabastan made connections easily, in a way that Rodolphus never had. But it was more than that: Rodolphus had never really understood others. Unless those others were analytical, and highly logical, Rodolphus could not understand their motivations. He did not understand crimes of passion, had never been able to appreciate poetry, and selfless acts seemed merely foolish.
There was a dividing wall between Rodolphus and others born from a complete lack of empathy on his part. He had friends, yes, but these friendships were formed slowly, over years and experiences. And yet, Rodolphus had not ever truly thought that there might be something wrong with him. Not until he first dipped his toe into the Death Eater pool, brought along as a newly minted graduate by his father, who was wont to test his sonsâ merits and mental toughness.
Sheâd been pretty once, was what Rodolphus remembered thinking, as he looked at the woman to be interrogated. Before the broken jaw, and darkened, swollen eye. She hadnât done anything wrong, not really. Nothing except for marrying the wrong man.
He was the one that they wanted at first, the husband. They had found him the day before.
Now, she was less a woman than a loose end to be tied up.
Rodolphus hadnât been called upon to do anything, but as he watched her fall he found himself wondering what it would have been like to be the one holding the wand, doing the killing. What a rush of power must there be to choose who lived and who died. He didnât realize how unusual, how sickeningly abnormal, the thought was until he turned and saw his brotherâs pale face. He should have felt something. Should have been staring at the scene in abject horror, and not idle, morbid curiosity.
Rodolphus walked out of the experience unchanged, except, perhaps, for a desire that was slowly rearing its sleepy head to try such things for himself. If his nonchalance shocked his father, the older man did not show it.
DEATH EATER
Rodolphus is very much a believer in that magical abilities should be kept within magical families, and that allowing those who come from Muggle families is a disgrace on everything the Wizarding community has built over the years. While he doesnât share the intense hatred towards anything less than Pureblood like some of his Death Eater friends do, he does frown upon socialising with them except for the purpose of image and reputation. Rodolphus finds himself growing more and more disgusted by their existence as time goes on, but mostly because they are causing him a great inconvenience by putting up a fight rather than just submitting to the Death Eaters demands.
Changes/Extra Info - None!
Para Sample:
There was a dead body strapped to a chair in the middle of the room, and Rodolphus stared down at it with disinterest.
More than a minute had passed in relative silenceâthe dripping industrial faucet in the corner did not count, nor the echoes from the Malfoys having too fancy of a basement for any practical useâsince Rodolphus had sent the lower level Death Eater guards away, to drag in a new person of interest (see: victim) for questioning. Part of their remit was dragging out the bodies injured by previous inquisitions, but seeing as this poor man had not made it through the session, Rodolphus had asked that they leave it on display. It would provide extraâŚinspiration for their next guest to start talking, more expediently.
An empty chair sat beside the corpseâs, awaiting whichever clerk or shop owner was being plucked from the cold safety of the holding rooms upstairs. Rather than dabbling in small talk just yetâan art that Antonin Dolohov, his partner in crime for the evening, excelled in, whereas Rodolphusâs skills laid more in rebuffing those efforts, thus farâhe examined the body with a bored expression.
At last, he seemed to arrive at some conclusion.
Reaching into his pocket, his hand bypassed his wand, which had already gotten a good deal of use today, and instead plucked a small, silver pocketwatch from the cloakâs folds. In one clean, doubtless motion, Rodolphus extended the blade from its holster and cut a straight chasm across the victimâs throat.
Blood spurted across the scene at once, taking a comical arc through the air and spattering both Rodolphusâs robes and the ridiculous marbled stone floors.
âA little more intimidating now,â he said, giving one curt nod of satisfaction. Then, at last, he turned his attention to Antonin, feeling freed from the burden of setting the scene. âAny interesting plans for the weekend?â

âItâs intoxicating- I became obsessedâ: has fitness gone too far?
With seven-day gym classes and unregulated instructors on Instagram, is our desire for practise get hazardous?
Lisa Andrews was looking for a speedy fitness secure. The 34 -year-old hadâ a bit of load to forgetâ a year after having her first child and, being both time-poor and on a fund, she decided to do it with the assistance of an online 12 -week training programme sheâd seen advertised on Facebook.â There were the thousands of changeovers on there ,â Lisa tells me.â I was so excited to start. The program had several different levels so you could begin at whatever level you thought worked for you. Stupidly, I picked intermediate. It was really defying, with daily establisheds of high-intensity activities, and I would routinely find dog-tired and wholly out of sigh by the end of it- but I was on a high. As I get fitter, I began to really desire the training. I looked forward to it, talked about it all the time, got acquaintances to sign up. I became fairly evangelical. Sometimes Iâd even do two sessions a date. Iâd bounced other activities to work out- because if I had to miss a discussion, Iâd appear depressed and fretted it would thwart my change .â
But whenâ niggling anguishesâ in her feet and ankles developed into something more severe, Lisa was unable to go to work. An X-ray confirmed that she had stress fractures in two places available in her hoof. Bound up in a big boot-like aircast, she struggled to walk for weeks and was told to avoid any weight-bearing training for months, until the bones are absolutely mended.â I had become obsessed ,â she says now.â I was wholly into it and theâ communityâ of people online doing the same stuff. Iâd be on Instagram all the time, looking at other peopleâs conversions. I do feel silly. I should know better- but it is psychologically intoxicating .â
Using Instagram, blogs and YouTube to get fit is fast becoming de rigueur. And despite get collectively fatter and more sedentary, the British invest evidence amounts of coin rehearsal. Representations from the 2017 UK State of the Fitness Industry report show that the sector is worth more than PS4. 7bn yearly- up more than 6% on its first year before. A speedy search for the #fitspo hashtag on Instagram draws up almost 47 million images- parties in workout gear promoting weights, close-ups of ultra-defined abs, bulbous biceps, âtransformationâ word-paintings( taken before and after fat loss)- each one advocating a programme more punishing than the last.
These daytimes, hardcore fitness exchanges. Even Nike, which stimulated its call with that all-inclusive Just Do It tagline, has taken to lambasting joggers in its latest ad blitz:â If You Like It Slow, Jog Onâ, orâ You Prevail Some Or You Acquire Someâ, exclaim its new billboards. Gyms guideâ extend hardâ advertisements, with discounted packs for those taking up inexhaustible classifies for short periods of period, such as 10 classifies in 10 days- the kind of training that numerous dubâ binge workouts â.
But nowhere is full-on teach more powerfully advocated than on social media, where inspirational paraphrases such asâ Pain is Weakness Leaving The Bodyâ andâ Sweat Is Your Fat Cryingâ are liked and shared billions of occasions. In the age of âwellthâ, a well-honed tricep is more desirable than the latest duet of decorator shoes. The so-called world-wide of âfitspoâ began as a niche practice for gym nerds to share tips-off and document how their bodies changed, before spreading into a whole lifestyle progress. Instagramâs short videos lend themselves to fitness content; beings started following routines in the gym.
Fitness progress have been around a very long time- think back to Jane Fonda, The Green Goddess and Mr Motivator- but works out has become a lot more complex since the aerobics periods, says Rick Miller, a clinical and plays dietician.â Increasingly, there seems to be this feeling of,â Why would I go for a soothing 5km trot or a moderate aerobic discussion when I can do a punishing high-intensity set ?'â he tells me over lunch. High-intensity training( mixing all-out outbursts of pleasure with short remainders) goes mixed re-examines from health professionals: some swear by the fast develops, while many believe that unsupervised employ of this kind can cause health problems.
â Many young person I construe are completely preoccupied with Instagram fitness stars ,â Miller says,â and they follow workouts from so-called tutors they donât know, which may not be right for their own bodies or their levels of fitness. Fitness athletes are adepts online, but their followers often try to instruct at the standard of health professionals player, without the core level of fitness. Following this type of workouts can very often to be translated into injury and burnout. Were I to recommend some of the things that fitness bloggers recommend- levels of practise, nutritional advice- I would get struck off .â
The National Careers Service was pointed out that training to become a fitness teach can only be done on the job at a gym, as an apprentice, or via a college route. Becoming a personal manager( PT) is more advanced. PTs are often self-employed, and they need insurance, first-aid exercise, an awareness of dissection and physiology, and a qualification, which takes anything from six weeks 3 months to achieve. Increasingly, trainers tell me, gyms are looking for another asset in their PTs: they want them to be photogenic, with a big social media following.
Zanna Van Dijk:â When I look back at my old-time uprights, I cringe .â Photograph: Getty Images
Some Insta-fitness personalities have personal education suitabilities, but numerous do not. Often, there is no way of telling who is trained and who isnât, without asking them. Anyone with more than 100,000 followers, nonetheless, irrespective of their qualifications, is deemed an âinfluencerâ, courted by brands eager to reach their adherents. Thatâs a fact that tempers many offline personal trainers, who was of the view that the unqualified yet famous ones devalue their profession.â Online curricula want people to feel as if they have their own- cheap- personal trainer ,â one tells me.â As some of them are wholly unskilled and the programmes are reallyâ one length fits all â, current realities couldnât be further from the truth. It realizes reputable personal trainers seem outrageously expensive .â
It is a sentiment resembled by one health and allure magazine writer, who asks to remain anonymous because her ideas donât tally with that of her bos.â These epoches, a strong Instagram following, good gene reserve and even better spray sunburn can construct you a fitness ace, regardless of what qualifications you have. Not only do many of theseâ fitness virtuosoesâ know little about what constitutes safe usage( the truth is that no amount of likes come in handy when you need to solve a gym-induced injury ), they likewise create a inaccurate gumption of what fit and healthy looks like- and it doesnât ever look 21 and great in a bikini. Include to that the fact that these social media adepts get paid to alter fitness devices, gambits and protein shakes, and youâve a whole loading of dangerously misguided adherents .â
No one would deny that people becoming more active is anything other than a good event. Millennials claim to enjoy working out as much as going out; gyms have become stylish, social openings where people invest their Friday nights and Saturday mornings, often doing back-to-back first-class. Revolving, boxing and hybrid cardio-barre workouts at city-centre-based studios often have waiting lists for evening or weekend seminars, when people would traditionally be kicking back with a potion( fewer parties aged between 16 and 24 suck than ever before, according to the Office of National Statistics ). Gyms are designed with stylish interiors and high-impact facet walls- all the better to post to Instagram.
And while the rest of the fashion sector strives, activewear- now not so much a category of apparel as a way of life, led by leggings and cultivate tops- has already become big business. Morgan Stanley forecasts the workout clothe sector to be worth $83 bn a year globally over the next three years. Gymwear is no longer age-old jogging posteriors or baggy T-shirts; itâs cut-outs and mesh- robes you can wear all day, seven days a week.
Itâs a warm Monday lunchtime and I am sitting next to a dough oven in a sourdough bakery in Battersea, south London. Where else to assemble a 24 -year-old characterized personal trainer and full-time fitness blogger? This is one of Zanna Van Dijkâs favourite hangouts: when sheâs not working out( or âsocialingâ herself doing so ), Van Dijk and her boyfriend run an Instagram account devote to where to find the best brunch. There is a lot weighing about the type of alternative milk to be served with her americano. Later this afternoon, she tells me, she is getting the representation for Earth tattooed on her wrist because,â Iâm a vegetarian for countries around the world .â
Van Dijk is towering, about 6ft, and lean. She has long, blond mane, immaculate makeup and more than 180, 000 adherents on Instagram. She learnt speech therapy at Sheffield University, but after graduating went into fitness blogging full era.â For me, fitness started as a lane to lose myâ Fresherâs 15â˛[ a reference to the heavines first-year university students can gain ]. I documented it, picked up 35,000 partisans and didnât know what to do with them. So I took a year off, endeavoured to London, started to work as a PT, made an income and forged partnerships with firebrands. I did a six-week intensive route and got it sponsored, as long as I blogged about it. As my online chart grew, I shortened my personal instruct task- now I learn parties one morning a week. Otherwise, Iâm editing videos or blogposts- I do three of these each a week. Iâve written a book, Iâve brought out jumpers[ which sayâ Coffee and carbsâ on them ], and Iâm an Adidas envoy .â
Van Dijk acknowledges occasions were quite different when she was starting out.â When I look back at my age-old berths, I cringe. I reckon:â Gosh, people know good-for-nothing! You had completely the incorrect outcome of the stick !â I used to try and be super-lean, and now I certainly donât care if I am lean or not- I want to be fit .â She violates off to vlog, before we look through her Instagram demographics together.
â My following is 81% dames, 19% beings ,â she says.â The biggest audience is 25- to 34 -year-olds, more older males, more younger women, mostly London, mostly UK .â More older humanities? Isnât that a bit creepy? Van Dijk doesnât react. Does she appear a responsibility to her followers?â You want to be 100% honest and share everything, but the other day, I did a video where I indicated my figure. It was all about self-confidence and self-love, which is what I am all about, but person observation:â I just think this video is drawing attention to different peopleâs bodies and their appearings .â That wasnât its intention, thatâs how itâs being comprehended .â
Van Dijk argues that her admirers shouldnât compare themselves with her.â Itâs really hard. I teach four days per week or maybe five ,â she says.â A slew of young girls will look at me and think:â I want to look like she examines and I want to do what she does ,â and thatâs when I have to be so careful .â
In that gumption, she experiences she has to protect people from themselves.â If youâre someone who has a negative mindset or is in a vulnerable place, you can easily access information that you could use mischievously. If youâre someone with an eating disorder or an infatuation with employ, Instagram is no longer an good home to be .â
Celebrity manager James Duigan( right ):â Thereâs no guarantee youâre doing things right onlineâ
How much responsibility do online trainers really make for parties copying the workouts they recommend? Jean-Claude Vacassin, the founder of boutique London gym W10, is not a fan of fitness via social media or, as he expressions it âexcer-train-mentâ. â What parties assure on social media is selling ,â he tells me on the phone.â Extreme fitness exchanges, itâs exciting. It used to be that moving a marathon was hardcore. Now, thatâs not enough: you have to do a multi-day ultra-marathon. A mint of these online training regimen is directed at millennials who want to buy on the first clink and transform their body on the second- and they push themselves more hard-boiled. No one wants to invest eight weeks moving more and snacking less these days because, sadly, beings donât believe basic practise, done well, is going to get them anywhere. Thereâs this idea that itâs boring .â He quotes the case of a developer who got a deal with a complement companionship because he works out a lot and has hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers.â But does that make he knows what heâs doing? No! Heâs a make , not a personal coach .â
Vacassin lends:â In our gym, we have gym criteria. Parties undergo an assessment before they get a programme. Hiit[ high intensity] training courses and involved employs under tirednes should not be in 90% of peopleâs fitness regimes because they donât have the physical ability. These online reports trick beings into thinking âits so easyâ. No one posts a bad exercising. No one posts the exercising they missed. No one posts the depression they have when they get injured or such relationships it expenditure them. All you see is the good stuff .â
Deep squats, lunges, deadlifts and high-intensity cardio are the mainstay of online exercisings, and stop Cameron Tudor, proprietor of West London Physiotherapy, in business.â Weâve seen an increase in the numbers of clients coming to us having disabled themselves doing online workouts ,â he says.â People get hurt predominantly because the theme is:â This is what I do and thereâs no reason it wonât work for you .â Extrapolated across the population, thatâs not going to be good. While itâs a great circumstance that people are being encouraged to be active, if youâve never elevated a barbell and then start elevating 10 kg, youâll put your materials at risk .â Part of the problem, Tudor says, is in the age changes.â The coaches are generally in their early 20 s, but a lot of the person or persons use the programmes are mid-to-late 30 s and 40 s. That subjects, because your tissues are far more resilient when youâre under 30.â
All exercise carries specific risks of harm, but the lack of supervision means that online programmes can carry more probability. Cara, 28, from Birmingham, was doing an online squats defy when she damaged her sciatic nerve.â I am sweeping about what happened to me ,â she says,â but Iâm not sure what anyone can do about it. It was my decided not to do the programme. I merely didnât know it wasnât the right thing for me .â
Natalie Burley, 37, from Chichester, swapped daily hearings on her exercise bike for an online programme to regain some fitness after her second child. In her fifth week, she inaugurated knowing knee anguish.â A physio was just telling me Iâd exacerbated the ligaments on the outside of my knee and I had to rest for six weeks. Now I have to wear a knee funding .â
Fitness stars themselves arenât immune from both physical or psychological traumata as a result of their jobs. Van Dijk tells me she cracked her handwriting doing box jumps last year. Fitness Instagrammer Queen City Sweat( nearly 50,000 adherents) wrote a pole in June admitting she had become âaddictedâ to activity in 2016, blaming the pressures of social media.â It becomes so simple to start equating yourself to others on here, which led me to develop a mindset ofâ How skinny can I get ?â rather thanâ How healthy can I be ?'â she wrote.
According to a 2008 Journal of Health Psychology study, girls reported an ever increasing negative mood, sadnes and nervousnes after merely 30 times of deeming fitness periodicals that promote anâ sporting principle â. Social media means you donât have to buy a publication to discover these likeness; theyâre in your newsfeed. The BMJ has identified practise craving as a originating trouble, feigning up to 10% of the employing population. Meanwhile, research from Flinders University in Australia found that online âfitspoâ personas predominantly illustrate the thin or sporting principle for women or the muscular ideology for men which, says clinical psychologist Dr Lisa Orban, can lead to mental difficulties, more.â Images considered on Instagram can represent one uniform, idealised standard of attractiveness- one not achievable to most young people .â
I ask celebrity personal trainer James Duigan if he has were part of Instagramâs fitness culture. âMassively,â he says from his gym in western London.â Social media facilitated my business Bodyism, and I admit that. But I think thereâs a difference between that and photos of beings publicizing commodities and selling exert and nutrition curricula, which can be physically and emotionally destructive .â
Duigan attained his name grooming the likes of Elle Macpherson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley- both terribly successful simulations, neither with particularly achievable physiques- but âhe il beâ definite about his issues with online fitness programs.â Too many of these videos peculiarity complex moves and beings get hurt ,â he says.â From a physiological perspective, thereâs no guaranty youâre doing things right online .â
Duigan tells me the story of an 18 -year-old client who has just connected his gym, after growing preoccupied with an online workoutâ advocated by very thin models and reality TV stars â. He sighs:â She developed an anorexia nervosa and was under medical supervision for 18 months. It attains me enraged. Numerous online workouts peculiarity modelings and they examine so compelling, playing into our deepest anxieties. But regular parties wonât achieve the same results.â
Lisa Andrews has now made a full retrieval, but is specified not to succumb to online training a second epoch.â I have removed social media from my phone so I canât fall back into that vortex. And Iâve connected a gym where theyâve made a programme particularly for me. Itâs early days and I know it will take time, but Iâm having fun again .â
Some figures have been changed .

Fitness stars themselves arenât immune from both physical or psychological traumata as a result of their jobs. Van Dijk tells me she cracked her handwriting doing box jumps last year. âItâs intoxicating- I became obsessedâ: has fitness gone too far?

How weightlifting has been crucial in my eating disorder recuperation
In firstly pointed, I told school teachers I was fat and needed to go on a diet. I will never forget the bewildered look upon her appearance. I was the tallest student there, socially awkward, all of 6 years old.
Iâve been haunted with nutrient for as long as I can remember, convinced I was fat, though I never was. As small children, I would flip through periodicals necessitate for women often older than me( though similarly preoccupied with their heavines, I would suspect ), reading about swank brand-new diets, determined to find the right one. There was the Two-Bite Diet, where you snack whatever you crave but are tolerated no more than two bites of it. Thereâs the lettuce soup nutrition, who the hell is self-explanatoryâand fairly embarrassing if you donât have a lifestyle conducive to nearly constant excursions to the bathroom. Low-carb. No carbs. Zero fat. Meal replacement rails and shakes.
I would waste the next several years fully immersed in this constant pursue for thinness and grappling with my disturbingly low-toned self-esteem.
Simple lunch. Chicken patty+ mustard+ luggage of smart pop popcorn+ Zevia Cola. 220 calories .

I certainly wasnât alone in my preoccupation with food. In one study of 5,000 men and women by U.K.-based Shape Smart, researchers found that women think about food almost as often as men think about sex: Nearly 25 percent of the women said they think about food at least once every 30 minutes (compared to 36 percent of men who think about sex every 30 minutes). Even more surprising: Some research suggests women will spend an average of 17 years of their lives trying to lose weight.
My own obsession with food (and how to eat less of it) hit its apex when I was a junior in high school. My parents split up; the only logical thing to do, to control was my body. That meant reducing my calories to 500 a day, exercising like a fiend, swallowing laxatives by the handful, and weighing myself multiple times a day. Some of my hair fell out, I lost my period, and I looked overall like someone had sucked the life out of me. But it worked: I was thin.
As you mightâve guessed, this isnât exactly a lifestyle you can sustain. Your options are to continue on this path and hope you donât eventually croak, or put on some pounds. âEating disorders have the highest mortality of all the psychiatric illnessesâmore so than major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder,â Dr. Lindsey Ricciardi, a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, told the Daily Dot.
I didnât want to die, so I went with the latter of the two options. I gained the weight back (and then some), learned what binge eating feels like (not fun), and alternated between loathing every fiber of my being and maybe, possibly, kind of, not really, sort of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. While my eating habits (as in, not ingesting) became a thought of the past, it would be about another decade before I ultimately moved peace with foodâand that peace didnât looks a lot like I had imagined.

Through the job I had at the time, about four years earlier, I joined a gym and was introduced by a pal to Olympic weightlifting. For those not familiar with the sport, the condensed version is it commits putting weights on a barbell and face-lift it. My âphysiqueâ could be described as flimsy, at best. I was a skinny-fat vegetarian living off salad and sprigs, ranging two miles every day and still desperate, even all those years later, to hear merriment within myself. Weightlifting firstly panicked me, but I soon discovered myself hooked. The environment was unlike any I had ever known. The beings around me were strong and fastest and most strong. I wanted to be like them. But I certainly wasnât going to get there eating loot buds and croutons for dinner each night. So, I adapted.

Itâs been four years since I started weightlifting, and youâd is still difficult pressed to find remainders of the girl who used to chew up and then spit out her food because she didnât wishes to âabsorbâ the calories. Now, for the ironic percentage: If you were to say Iâm a completely different person now, youâd be wrongâbecause Iâm still obsessed with meat, albeit in a healthier lane and for a better purpose. Dr. Ricciardi is a little more cautious, based on her know of working with many competitive and professional jocks: âMy biggest wonder is are you done enough nutrition to meet your power necessities? And to what extent is the restrictive eating or intense practise affecting biopsychosocial functioning? â she announced. âWhen I discuss standing strong in oneâs recovery from an anorexia nervosa, I often use the analogy of staying away from the leading edge of a cliff. Imagine being at the Grand Canyon, and biding behind the rope in the safe neighbourhood. The further you can stay back from the edge, the less likely âyoure gonna have toââ fallâ in your recovery.â
So it seems, then, that one can go from the calorie counting of disordered eating to calorie counting as canadian athletes with a specific food; but attend must be taken not to fall back into age-old habits. You have to understand your disease, your triggers; you need to sort out the playing voicesâthe ones that persuasion you into falling into hazardous province and ones that warn you to take a breath and step away.
While certain parts of my life havenât changed, what has is my taste of beautyâwhich I see as a healthy sign. In my younger times, bony was pretty. I strived for lodge thin and waifish. I flip-flop through magazines and admired underfed actresses with their jutting clavicles, pointy hips, and flat chests. I knew that it was unhealthy, unfair, and most probably unattainable, but I missed it anyway.
Now, Iâve stopped chasing the thigh breach and go after thick-skulled thighs. I require a bigger as, a muscular back, strong arms. Iâve learned to admired the curves of my form instead of running away from them.
Furthermore, what I see in the reflect isnât even the focal point anymore. I want to see what my organization can do. As a 118 -pound walking stick illustration, I knew what my form couldnât do. It couldnât menstruate. It couldnât handle more than a duo gnaws of meat at a time because my belly had shrunk too much. It couldnât climb a flight of stairs without getting tired.
That all changed. While the histories of my conflicts isnât even remotely special, whatâs uncommon about it is I knew a way out. Some might âre saying thatâ you never actually fully recover from an eating disorder, much in accordance with the rules that a former alcoholic is forever an alcoholic; they might say you are always an âaddict.â But Dr. Ricciardi offers a bit more hope.
âThe research, be included with my clinical ordeal, demonstrates that many people can fully recover from an eating disorder, have a healthy rapport with nutrient and their body, and never lapsing again, â she said.
Sometimes recovery really is about taking it one stair, one day, one dinner at a time. The course finds right when the focus is on your well-being , not the jutting of your clavicle.

It couldnât menstruate. It couldnât handle more than a duo gnaws of meat at a time because my belly had shrunk too much. It couldnât climb a flight of stairs without getting tired.
