#let me add that Hinata and Neji becoming medic nins together would have started to heal their relationship and the Hyuuga clan#they're equals in something they choose they're doing something TOGETHER they're swearing to not repeat their dads' mistakes#also Hyuugas already have the chakra control for that#also?? acknowledging Sakura is a freaking prodigy when it comes to medical ninjutsu???#I think the line up of Hinata Neji Shikamaru Sakura would be so interesting#Especially to develop Hinata's potential and self-confidence#Imaging Neji healing Hinata after she went to fight Pain#or Neji not dying and Hinata healing him on the War arc#Shikamaru writing the injury report on Asuma
hinata becoming a mednin alongside neji would certainly be an improvement but tbh i still don't love it. hinata is a gentle person but the manga doesn't really have her show much interest in healing, and i would argue that what evidence we do have of her interests outside of naruto is still pretty combat-orientated (also, quick side note, i don't think giving hinata even more people to feel inferior to is going to help her confidence that much tbh - neji is self-explanatory, but both sakura and shikamaru are all noted to be incredibly smart academically - tho shikamaru doesn't apply himself in school - and hinata is just kinda average afaik).
however, i think it would be interesting for her and neji to attempt to take up mednin training together only for hinata to learn that she's actually pretty good at it but doesn't like it all that much. meanwhile neji has the opposite problem - he fucking loves it, but he struggles with it in a way he's really not used to at all. so instead, they use their respective strengths to help the other overcome their respective weaknesses.
concerning the post-pain healing, neji iirc wasn't actually in konoha when hinata needed healing. also, as a yuri fan, that is one of the only canon sakuhina moments and i will defend it to the death if i have to, sorry.
lastly, about sakura - i have conflicting feelings on applying the term prodigy to her. on the one hand, she's certainly an incredible medic, and it's annoying that just about everyone who gets called a genius in naruto is a guy (with the exception of medical ninjutsu, which tsunade is a genius at - tho idk if she's ever called that explicitly, come to think of it), but on the other hand... sakura worked really hard to be able to do that stuff. it wasn't natural talent (the og manga has kakashi explicitly note that sakura does actually have natural talent - in genjutsu. which is basically the only thing she never uses at all, which could very well imply that sakura wants to be able to show what she accomplished through hard work rather than what she just happened to be good at. it could also imply that kishimoto didn't care and immediately forgot as soon as he wrote that, which is probably more likely).
ok so like i know the reason is just. sexism but one thing that really irks me about how the post-timeskip naruto manga handled which characters became medic nin bc it makes absolutely no sense to me
sakura's decision to train under tsunade makes sense, and i love that she got a super strength power up, so no notes there, but the other teams.... yeesh
so first off, team ten. we're told that ino decided to follow sakura into mednin land to keep being rivals with her... despite that at no point factoring into their rivalry at all beforehand. ino never showed any interest in that, nor was the yamanaka clan ever mentioned to have anything to do with healing as far as i can remember. it's like going to art school to stay with your bestie when your goal is to become a dentist. why are you there. find other ways to spend time together. it also kinda goes against her family's whole thing as. the guys who do the torture stuff. and it's barely ever relevant anyway
for team ten, i think the team medic should've been shikamaru, and i think this not just bc i think it makes more sense skill-wise (something about the way the nara clan's various shadow jutsu work just screams "you need good chakra control for this" to me), but also bc i think it would make asuma's death a thousand times more painful. bc shikamaru is a slacker. he's not learning medical ninjutsu bc he wants to, he's learning it bc someone on the team has to in order to stick together. they're all chuunin now; one of them has to be a medic. them's the rules. but he doesn't really care that much, even when he is trying to learn, and he's so used to being smart enough to not have to pay attention in lessons anyway that he's not prepared for classes that require his full focus. and then asuma dies and shikamaru is doomed to spend the rest of his fucking life wondering if he could've saved him by paying just a little more attention to those medical ninjutsu lessons (he could not have (but he'll never know for sure))
team eight makes some sense, since giving the girl who struggles with fighting the healing job isn't exactly out of nowhere, but i do feel it was the lazy choice. kiba already had a sister involved in the medical business, even if she deals more with animals, so he could've started learning from her and found that he liked it. plus kiba's goal is to be hokage, and the current hokage is a mednin, so it's not like it wouldn't support his goal. or shino could do it; would add another layer to his character. hinata works fine but. it's just not a very interesting development imo
but what really gets me is team gai. good freaking grief. out of every single team, team gai was the one with the most obvious choice. bc there was only one choice. lee can't do any kind of ninjutsu, and tenten's only real backstory is that her chakra control isn't good enough for her to be a medic nin. so it had to be neji. canon establishes that every team has to have a medic; this is a policy tsunade got passed even before she became hokage, so no way in hell is she going back on it now.
moreover, neji becoming a medical ninja - especially if hiashi encouraged it - would show some development for the hyuuga clan maybe starting to suck a bit less. bc as a medic, neji would be bound by oath to stay alive for as long as possible. imagine a world in which hizashi came back and hiashi was able to tell his brother that not only was their family starting to change, but his son had chosen a path that would prevent him from ever following in his father's footsteps. it would be the first step (of many) to show that the hyuuga clan was freeing itself from its own bullshit.
also it would've made sakura catching the zetsu pretending to be neji a thousand times funnier. like that's her coworker. they've shared shifts at the hospital together. she's seen neji drink vodka straight from a bottle and then crash on her couch after they got out of a twelve-hour surgery on the fucking dumbass chuunin who managed to step on his own boobytrap. she knows him.
#naruto#naruto shippuden#mednin au#meta#interesting ideas tho#haruno sakura#hyuuga neji#hyuuga hinata#i think hinata and neji realizing that they don't have to do things based on what their natural talents are would be good for them tbh#plus i think sakura benefits more overall from having to put in the non-prodigy work frankly#kakashi: wow you've got quite the talent for genjutsu!#sakura: wow thanks sensei! i'm never going to use it again and will rely exclusively on taijutsu for combat and ninjutsu for healing tho

boruto rewrite where the show actually still focuses on the original characters from naruto, but we're seeing them face their struggles that come with being adults in the society they live in and after going through what they did. their children are also in the show and we're given their perspective on the events compared to their parents'.
the overall plot revolves around naruto trying to change the shinobi system. he knows first hand how terrible the repercussions are when children are forced to be soldiers, and now that he's the hokage, he finally has the power to change it.
the only problem is, not everyone agrees with him. many believe by changing the age that shinobi begin their training, they won't be as strong later on and the village will become weaker over the years. not only that, but some people just don't understand why naruto feels this way. they were shinobi all their life and they turned out just fine — why fix what isn't broken?
it causes conflict within the cast and allows us to delve into each character more, showing why they feel the way they do and how their experiences have built up to the person they are.
besides that, other characters get their own storylines as well that connect with the theme of recovering from trauma.
gaara realizes that he's only ever lived for his village — as a soldier, a weapon, the kazekage. he works himself to the bone for his village while ignoring his basic needs, still having not realized he's a human just like everyone else. when he gets shinki, he realizes what it's like to prioritize something; what it's like to nurture and love.
sakura works at a hospital for young shinobi, doubling as both a healer and a therapist of sorts. she listens to the children tell their stories and gives them a shoulder to try on. she saw what being alone did to her teammates and she doesn't want any other child to go through what they did.
during her time at the hospital, she slowly begins to see pieces of herself within her patients. her trauma, which she's always pushed away and ignored, starts to come out. she's forced to face these memories she's always tried to bury deep. she struggles with understanding it as well as feeling validated compared to what naruto and sasuke had to go through.
she also struggles with her marriage to sasuke as she starts to unpack all the terrible things he's done to her. she's knows why he did them and she can justify his actions as much as she wants, but it doesn't change the fact he traumatized and tried to kill her at one point.
hinata's would focus on the hyuga. she's an outsider to them without any power. when she was stripped of her title and allowed to marry naruto, she thought it was a dream come true. she was so confident that hanabi would change the clan, that the branch system would be destroyed and neji wouldn't have died in vain.
only, without hinata, hanabi began to crack under the pressure of the elders and her father until she became just like them. the seal system is still in place, the branch families are still treated as servants.
it's a lot about generational trauma. how no matter how much hinata tried to change things for hanabi, she was always destined to fall into the same path as her father. only by recognizing this and making the changes her family refused to do in the past, are they able to change things.
i think there could also be something about how once, a long time ago, hiashi had wanted to change the hyūga. he wanted to dispel the main/side branch family system so his brother could be free. but overtime, he became complacent — very similar to hanabi.
as for the kids, i would show the differences between them based on how their parents feel about them being raised as soldiers.
for example, shikatema would have no problem with the shinobi system (at first) and their child would be entered into the academy and ready to become a ninja.
boruto, however, was raised by parents who want to change the system and hate the senseless violence, therefore he was not enrolled. this causes him to have some resentments for his parents as he's in the minority of children who aren't attending the ninja academy. he's viewed as a weak and soft-hearted by his companions and he hates it. maybe he goes against his parents and attends the academy in secret somehow.
there's a lot you can do with each character, honestly. i won't go further into it unless asked, but here's my main thoughts. i have a lot of idea with how to conclude the arcs as well, but i'm not sure how people would feel about it.
gaara stepping down as kazekage and leaving suna, sakura divorcing sasuke as she realized she never truly loved him romantically, hinata becoming the hyūga head/disbanding the hyūga, etc. many ideas.

do you realize that your hinata is completely an ooc?
Good day!
I do realize that “my” (?) Hinata has some ooc. And it doesn’t bother me at all, because why should it? The only canon Hinata is depicted on pages of Naruto manga ( to my mind anime is the canon too, but even here views may differ). All fan-content is only numerous interpretations of the character. Fans take character traits they like the most and interpret them the way they want and the way it seems reasonable to them. And it is absolutely natural that different people see her in a differently. So every Hinata that you, anon, see on fanarts and come across in fanfiction is an ooc. Some Hinatas may be closer to your own interpretation of the canon character, some may not be that close. Some Hinatas get reasonable ooc, some are just OC with the name and appearance of Hinata.
However I can’t agree with you in the part that she is “completely” an ooc because it is actually not true and I have no idea how you’ve come to this conclusion. My answer could be more specific if you’ve pointed out what exactly you consider to be strong canon divergence in my interpretation of her.
If you call “my” Hinata an ooc because she chose Neji over Naruto (and it is not an imposed arranged marriage, she chooses Neji with her own free will bc she loves him), then, well, I don’t think that the choice of the partner is the defining feature of the character. Hinata can be much more than just Naruto’s girlfriend. At least for me.
I take Hinata basic character traits, handle them with love and care and develop them reinforcing with the extended context that I make with headcanons for her and the characters that surround her.
I don’t like Hinata character development in Shippuden and later; there was actually no development. I say it out loud and I don't hide it. For the role that the author prepared for her, she is too poorly written. Moreover, I really like this character, she is interesting to me. I see great potential in her and want to show it in my arts and headcanons.
So I take Hinata from s1 and develop her character based on the canon events + adding more moments that didn’t take place (but could have) in the canon. Hinata is a secondary character so she has too little screen time so it is obvious that we are shown only a small part of her life. Of course there will be some divergence in her behavior because we all are the result of our life experience. Things that happen or not happen with us may affect our personality greatly. The question is to what extent it can affect us and what the input traits were.
In my arts I draw Hinata the way I imagine she could have been in the canon, only making her gradually become more mature and self-confident. If for you this is a terrible and inexcusable ooc then ok, call it this way. What can I do here?
If you don’t like “my” Hinata you can just reread manga or rewatch anime if you like canon Hinata only. Or find a fan-Hinata you would like. There are thousands of artists who draw her and like her. Support them, toss a coin to them, worship their Hinatas in comments, and discuss your headcanons with them. Those artists would be really happy to get your attention.

Hi Fourangers,
First of all, I love your blog so much. It's like going through a history back when Naruto Manga chapters were released weekly and your reviews were so Golden, Hilarious and spot-on. Am a new fan though (especially an SNS fan), I just got into this fandom only this year. I don't know if you'll answer my ask, but I just wanted to try and ask you few questions and I pray that you might answer me....
1. Since you've written in a post that you were active in the eastern part of the fandom, How was chapter 698 received in Japan? Because this is the chapter I inherently realized they both love each other. Yeah, I was too late but somehow whenever they interact with each other in previous chapters I always find them to be 'Weird' for just to be friends. Chapter 698 is just blatantly obvious that they love each other. Considering Homophobia and Shounen genre, I have no idea how it was perceived over there back then in 2014.
2. Which scene made you to ship SNS?
3. As an SNS'er how do you feel about the ending, where everyone was married off when they were just 19 just to make some shitty sequel??? As a new fan, I felt betrayed and It would've been perfect if they had stopped at chapter 699, leaving an open ending.
4. How do you face with the accusation about Naruto and Sasuke as brothers and we, SNS'ers are Incest shippers??? I don't care about that Indra and Ashura thing. But Naruto himself told he considers Sasuke as his Brother couple of times. And in Chapter 699, Sasuke acknowledged, 'He finally understood what it meant'.... It's the only thing that confuses me and I don't even have an answer!!! Plus, Kishi himself gave an interview that he based Sasuke on his Brother... I really wonder how he gave such an interview when he literally made them wear necklaces with each other's faces.
5. How was Naruto and Sasuke's sexuality perceived in the fandom back then??? Man!! Kishimoto just made lot of comic reliefs on their sexuality by making Sasuke on Sai jutsu, Naruto not interested in Icha Icha but making Reverse Harem no Jutsu, Naruto was angry when Konohamaru made Boy on Boy jutsu whereas he had no problem with him doing it. LOL. And all those homoerotic posters. What do you think about their sexuality, personally??
6. Why did Kishi had to develop their bond as Soulmates with some unintentional or intentional romantic undertones, if he was eventually going to pair them up with girls??? He easily could've gave many such romantic tropes to other girls and keep the bond between N and S as purely friendship or brothers. It still would've made sense.
7. Final one, Was Naruto really Nosebleeding when Kurama made a joke about Sasuke's kiss in Chapter 572???? We had a lot of heated discussion with other shippers where they claim that it was just a splotch of snot.
Sorry for the lengthy ask....... I am so eager to know your answers and I don't want to spam your ask box by sending multiple asks.
Thanks 😊😊😊
Hey yo! Welcome new SNS fan! I'm so glad that you joined us and I'll try to answer as best as I can. I'm not very active here on tumblr (except browsing lol) but your ask was such a delight to read.
1. I honestly don't remember. I think I didn't follow the japanese boards until the eventual 699-700 disaster. People were craving for reactions and I was curious about it too lol. And well...it's been years, I doubt I'll be able to find the reactions from that time. Imo, most readers don't care much about pairings, they just wanted to read about power-ups and abilities and the basic Naruto Vs Sasuke. Though there are some backhanded jokes about how gay Naruto is for Sasuke.
2. Hah. It's going to be very anti-climatic but it was when Naruto and Sakura were eating in Ichiraku Ramen. Naruto just used Rasenshuriken against Kakuzu and he busted his arm. Sakura was healing his arm and her attention was focused on Naruto. I used to be a NaruSaku shipper so I thought "Oh hey! This is the moment that Naruto would have a candid romantic moment!" But nope. He talked about Sasuke. And I was already getting suspicious about Sasuke's feelings towards Naruto ya know? And the whole "SASUKE IS MIINEEEEEE" in Orochimaru's lair. It was that moment I thought "you only have Sasuke in your head don't you, Naruto?" and started shipping SNS.
3. Hooo boy was I surprised when it was suddenly revealed that they had the basic heteronormative, boring marriage with bunch of clones of themselves. Everyone thought that it was almost like a bad fanfiction come true and some thought that it was fake. It was a pandemonium lolololol. I also thought that it was too lame to be true and lo and behold, when it came true I was floored. And then whenever Kishimoto threw new material, I got insanely pissed off because S*arada and B*ruto becoming pairing material is ok because they are a girl and a boy, and then they paralleled with Naruto and Sasuke which are only FRIENDS because they are both men. ARGH. Open ending was what Kishimoto planned from the very beginning but wrote a sequel to earn more money.
In that aspect, I made peace with it because of the whole anime/manga industry. I learned that, as a mangaka, you don't earn a lot of money with selling books, but rather with merchandise and profiting with sales right. And that guy have a family to raise, have two kids (which is hilarious about how B*ruto movie is his self-insert story), he needs a steady income. Also, I read reports about how anime studios are so poor and animators don't receive a decent income not to mention they are overstaffed and tired, and B*ruto is a good money cow for them to earn money so they can invest later on other anime they have more passion about it. So even though I hate this story with a strength of thousands suns, they are putting meal on people's tables and making them pay rents. I'm ok.
4. Lemme roll my eyes because in the Last movie they said that Hinata is related to Kaguya and so is the Uzumaki and Uchiha clan so they are all related woo hoo. But in the aspect of brothers because reincarnations bla bla bla, didn't Naruto himself said that he's no longer that brother, he's himself? Hmm...I gotta re-read it. One day. Maybe. lol. But I'm sure that he said "Sasuke is not my brother but I'm sure we'll understand well as friends" so there. Honestly, there are a lot of interviews out there and a lot of them are fake, so I'd always take the interviews with a grain of salt lololol. I do know from artbooks that Kishimoto wanted to create Sasuke as a rival-esque character and that was it. As he was developing Sasuke and Naruto's relationship, since he liked the whole yin-yang concept, whenever he wrote Naruto's story, Sasuke's was developed at the same time as his shadow.
5. I can tell from Naruto Forums (I used to participate back in that day) MOST of the non-shippers thought it was gay as hell, but you know...it was a relic of that time. While they thought it was gay, they didn't put too much thought about you know? Because it was shounen, and we knew that it was a joke that it couldn't be taken seriously. Of course, in the SNS fandom, we did make more analysis and there were a lot of instance when Naruto and Sasuke's sexuality was questioned. Some other non-shippers also thought that Naruto was totes gay for Sasuke (including a IRL friend).
Imo, Naruto is definitely bisexual in my view. Sasuke I think he's asexual or gay. He's attracted to Naruto, but mostly because of his connection to him, not because of his physical attributes, so yeah...asexual. Or Pansexual. Sasuke is more complicated lmao. Imo, Naruto could be pansexual too, come to think about it. Yeah, I guess both being pansexual can be valid.
6. He developed Naruto and Sasuke being soulmates from the very beginning, that was proven in his comments in artbooks and in the manga. He probably created with the intention of making it purely platonic, going beyond physical ties. Then he shot himself on the foot by drawing Naruto thinking about Sasuke on bed, talking about how Sasuke is cool, meanwhile Sasuke waxing poetic about how Naruto saved him. What gives? Lol. Yeah, I think he got too enamored writing their relationship that he didn't have time to write romantic ones. What I noticed that Sakura's popularity never was really high, so I could see some editors putting their fingers all over it and making her less relevant. Also, Kishimoto didn't know how to handle her, so when she got her time to shine was the whole fake confession disaster. Coupled with Kishimoto sexism and, in his words (Kurenai's flashback), women are useful to spout more babies, women was never really relevant in his story, unfortunately. Even Kaguya who was technically the big bad boss, was never really fleshed out in comparison to Madara. So the null het romantic moments it's not because he wanted to elevate SNS moments, it's more about how he's incompetent about it. It's either Hinata slowly elevating to a relevant status because forced interaction (Pain's sacrifice and Neji's death) or Sakura being obligated to be pining over Sasuke because she's a girl. It's even more painful to see that, if we ignore B*ruto, both girls are shown to be just talking with their kids and dusting shelves, basically being housewives, even though thorough the story (especially Sakura) it was implied that both of them have much more potential than being their husband accessories.
7. It was a splotch of snot. I can confirm myself lol. Whenever the chapter is out and fans would scan it to scanlate it, the editor usually would amp up contrast to max. So usually the lines get much more thicker than usual, when you read the official release which gets straight from the source, you can notice how the lines are more delicate.
Oh lol...but then we also have a lot of controversy about translating style. THAT one is a whole new can of worms to open.
Man I had fun answering your questions! Please send more :P

Hi! Since this showed up in the NH tag without tagging it as hate, I'm happy to give my opinion!
I think, honest to God, most people watch The Last in bad faith. They go into the film ready to dislike it. It happens! I went into the movie prepared to dislike it based off of what I've read online along with out of context clips.
First off: Kishimoto worked a lot on this film, so I can't really in good faith call it filler. It actually fits right in to the story he was already writing for the both of them.
Second: the genjutsu scene was a visual storytelling device. Plenty of people take this scene in bad faith. I did too! But watching it in context shows a very different moment. Naruto is using all of these memories to RECONTEXTUALIZE his feelings for hinata. That's important. He's processing.
He was a seventeen year old boy who witnessed the first person to ever say "I love you" to him 'die' right in front of him. He's mentioned /in manga/ how horribly this affected him.
It's not a stretch for imo to believe this is a big reason as to why he hasn't really delved into those feelings. It's hard. Understandably so! That's why in the genjutsu scene the bit with pain kept replaying and pulling him in. It's a painful memory he's trying to cope with and recontextualize.
Another note about the genjutsu scene: it's supposed to keep you trapped by showing you something you WANT to see. Sai saw his brother, for example. Naruto started out with a memory of his class, then one of hinata. Ofc after that the scarf comes in, but he /started/ the genjutsu with a comfortable moment with hinata when they were young during the chunin exams. But his feelings are still so complicated those comfortable memories get mishmash with painful ones. Then hinatas own memories come in. A lot of it isn't to be taken literally. He isn't being brainwashed, he isn't suddenly realizing his emotions. He's processing them after not being able to process them for so long. They /were/ in a war as teens after all.
Another ANOTHER note: most of those scenes he remembered besides movie canon scenes are canon to the manga. Hinata giving him ointment, the pain scene, etc. Personally I would've loved to see the fight with neji in there or the proud failure speech, but there's canon moments! (Also the movie is canon...? Idk where people get that it's not?)
Its honestly wild to me that no one considers the fact that the pain arc traumatized Naruto, bc it very much /did/. And he immediately went from that to the 5 kage arc to /war/. He didn't have time to process anything. Hell, hinata confessed because she was convinced she was going to die. I don't really get what people expect from two traumatized teens in the middle of war.
2 years go by because now everyone is a young adult and can finally feel like the world isn't about to end. Narutos feelings are subtle but they're there. He doesn't open any of the gifts fangirls give him is a good hint to that.
I'm probably going to be giving a controversial opinion here but it's true. Hinata isn't meant to be the strongest ninja out there and that's okay. She doesn't have to be! That isn't her role. She canonically never even wanted to be a ninja, it's what her duty is as a part of the main branch. Why should she still remember how to climb up walls when A) she IS affected by toneris chakra and completely disoriented and B) this is the first film where she was given something to DO. Her goal to destroy the tensegan while trying to appeal and reason with Toneri is great. The abuse she faces with Toneri mirrors the abuse she faced with her father. It's all pretty Hinata focused which is why I like it. She doesn't NEED to have huge feats when she's always been a girl defined by love. And that's what this movie is about. Love. Also the moon blowing up.
I think people say "its deeper than you think" because you DID watch the film in bad faith. It's OK, I did too. Like I said in the beginning, it happens! But some things /are/ that deep and you can't discredit it with "ship bad uncanon movie bad writing" u feel? It's okay to dislike the movie! But to say that fans are wrong or are settling for the bare minimum simply isn't correct. You just didn't watch the film in good faith
Unpopular opinion incoming: ...Why do NaruHina fans even like The Last?
Unironically, I really want to know why, because, I am a huge NaruHina shipper myself, and even still, this movie never fails to aggrevate me in the worst way possible, even now, not even getting angry or anything, but... I just feel empty. I feel nothing. Not even the kiss made it worth, and I am HUGE sucker for sappy romances from time to time. Hell, I am a romance author, as a hobby. But this movie, it legit felt like, I just wasted my freaking time. That's a far worse sensation than getting mad, because, I just got nothing smart to say about it.
So, let me get this straight, and I am pretty sure, I am speaking of behalf of anyone that even remotely supports these two as one: The series NEVER making Naruto acknowledge Hinata's confession, was just damned moronic, even from a writing standpoint, because, yeah, in Japanese, it can mean two different things when you say "I love you", I know that, it might just mean "I love you as a teammate", but honestly, considering that NaruHina, by this point, was always meant, even according to Kishimoto, in hindsight, not acknowledging this moment for years to come, until the movie had to speak up about it: You lost the plot. If it was always meant to happen, why did you write it in a way as if Naruto straight up ignored everything she said?
And listen, I know, Naruto is a really delayed mofo, but the movie tried to paint it as if, "Naruto is a dense idiot, who isn't in touch with his own feelings, so you have to put him in a Genjutsu to """see the depths of her feelings for him"""", but honestly, to me, this just felt like a really convenient excuse to just regress Naruto as a person, just so the ship can happen, essentially, "guilt-tripping" him into going, "Ohhh, Hinata always had feelings for me, I didn't notice, even though she risked her life". Again, again, again, none of the events would even bother me so much, if it weren't for the undeniable fact: Somehow, during Shippuden, they tried to make it seem "ambigious", by not addressing her confession, EVER. Like, almost as if, Sakura was meant to be "the final option, because of Kushina", but it was clearly bullshit, and the movie wasn't subtle on that front either. But then, WHY WASN'T IT BROUGHT UP? WHY DID NARUTO NOT SAY ANYTHING?
And before any of you stupid motherfuckers are going to accuse me of being a "closeted NaruSaku shipper", I am not. These two simply wouldn't have ever worked out in the long run, for one thing, because I am not a fan of this trope, of the girl always needing to use violence, on an already traumatized individual (not to mention, that being played for laughs, which also rubs me the wrong way, especially in regards to comic relief characters), and him just going with it, which, by the way, isn't very realistic at all, as to why Naruto never got cross with Sakura at one point or another (one can of worms, I want to talk about some other time), and secondly, c'mon now, look at these two. They are more siblings than anything. As if, two different halves and shades of Kushina live inside the two of them, individually.
Not to mention, why are you NaruHina fans so comfortable with pardoning bad writing, brushing it off as if it's "deeper than you think"? Because, I just can't see it any other way, both Naruto and Hinata were frankly OOC in this movie, considering, this is all supposed to take place after the war. I can forgive Naruto being an idiot, who is slow on the draw, but straight up going "he is just dense", is frankly retarded, considering, we are talking about the equivalent to ninja Jesus Christ with him here, who basically loves everyone like family (safe for the villains), but then comes Hinata, he confesses first, but somehow "he is dense"? Why do we even need a fucking Genjutsu for all this? Doesn't he remember a person he truly loved like her, of ALL people? So we are left with having to rely on made-up flashbacks, which never even happened in the original series (only in Shippuden, late-game), and a contrived plot device, that comes in the name of "Otsutsuki"?
On that note, I really do not like what this movie did with Hinata. Look, "Toneri was messing with her chakra", even if that were true, it doesn't change anything, because it's still an excuse to make her another damsel in distress for Naruto to save. I get it, Hinata is not like Naruto in that, she bears his battle attributes, but sheesh, man, are you really fine with regressing her back to the Genin, who can't even run down walls to save her life? This is a mess, I really cannot approve of this, Hinata is way stronger than that, and we all know it, this just isn't acceptable to me. I want my couple dynamic to be evenly distributed to feel absolutely comfortable.
And this is acceptable to you all? I call it, for what it is: Terrible writing. Stitched together with convenient excuses, just to have the ship happen somehow, in an artificial way, despite having criminal lack of shared screentime together, non-canon content excluded, by the way (I am sorry, I have to be consistent here).
With all this knowledge, the movie comes off as a truly cringeworthy attempt to try appeasing to us, who love these two together. The sappy music, the "larger-than-life" presentation, the overt reliance on spectacle, rather than substance, is just making this experience even worse for me.
Peace.
P.S.: This is just my silly, personal opinion, if you love this movie, more power to you. But to me, this is one of those pieces of media that genuinely make me feel miserable.
