the thing that gets me about that poll about how many knives you use to make a pb&j is that some people answered one and said they went from the jelly to the peanut butter because you can quickly and easily "clean the knife" by wiping it on the bread but that's the opposite direction you should go in if you want to actually keep things clean. the peanut butter is shelf stable af. it can stick around without rotting for a long time. but the jelly meanwhile will last about a week without refrigeration. if that. so repeatedly inserting little bits of fruit and sugar in your jar that hangs out unrefrigerated for months is actually the worse option for cross contamination, even if it's more visually acceptable.
#i think about that poll every day because i make a pb&j every day#and yes. i‚ 2 knives adam‚ do sometimes wash a load of dishes simply because i am out of knives.#but that's the price i pay to enjoy my sandwiches without the unnecessary complexities of willy nilly cross contamination#what if i had someone over who had a peanut allergy and they wanted jam on toast#what if i had someone over who was allergic to one of the 7+ jams i've used this year and they wanted some peanut butter and apple slices#what if i wanted the peanut butter jar in my cabinet to not slowly fill with mold#adam yaps
