Was looking at a couple transformer names in Mandarin and here's a couple I found amusing:

Skylynx -> 天猫 (sky cat)

Astrotrain -> 大火车 (big train)

Starscream -> 红蜘蛛 (red spider ???)

Blitzwing -> 闪电 (lightning) tbh I just found it cool

Fireflight -> 飞火 (fly fire) iss backwardss

Motormaster -> 汽车大师 (car master) lmao

Brainstorm -> 小诸葛里恩 (Something something Military advisor -> brain or something- Had to get my friend's help bc I could not figure out what it meant ToT) but also why's it so long

Every now and then I see screencaps that people take of C-dramas with English subs and...... Good heavens. The translations are so bad and inaccurate and often sound awkward/unnatural... that I wonder if non-chinese viewers actually understand the writing/story they just watched....

recently discovered pet peeves: i explain to someone i’m not naturally gifted at learning languages and they chime in with ”but your english is so good! surely you can learn other languages as well!” yes it’s thanks to a lifetime of exposure through media, nine years of formal studies and +10 years of daily use. i also studied swedish for 6 years and retained nothing.

hhhhhh this week I've been having a sudden surge in anxiety and drop in mood and general mental health kinda being sucky

but I'm also back to testing what sort of foods are triggers for me

which means right now I am employing my methods to prevent myself from anxiety spiraling into a panic attack while simultaneously in significant abdominal pain bc it turns out that my body rejects fucking mandarin oranges of all things

and tbh I really REALLY would prefer to just be dealing with one of these at a time. or, even better, neither.
