A witchcraft basics doc; update, resource call, interest check, and a possible second doc

Yes this is a huge post. It's a lot of things.

So, one of my first posts ever on this blog was me mentioning that a friend of mine had NO clue what they were signing up for when asking for the basics of witchcraft. The google doc I wrote took on a life of its own, and the post did as well when people started asking for it. I still plan to tag said people when I post it, assuming they haven't deactivated. The thing is, this doc had become a proper project, and it took a long time for me to have the motivation to work on it again. Now, though, it seems to me like a damn good way to reconnect to my craft after a rut! (which, by the way, is why I've been offline.)

So, my first post back is for a couple of reasons. For one, if you have any resources you'd think would be useful for beginner witches, feel free to shoot me an ask, DM, or comment/reblog on this post! I'll have a list of things I'm putting in the doc (taking recommendations there as well) at the bottom of this post.

The other thing is that I might end up making a second doc, one that's a little less "101" in vibe. It would have a MAJOR MAJOR UPG warning on it, first off, and I'm not sure whether or not I would be marking any UPG either since this would essentially be a second Grimoire/Book of Shadows for me that would be public to others for the sake of sharing information! I can't say I'd call it "advanced witchcraft" by any means, I'm not very fancy lol, but I don't want the basics doc to get too overwhelming. I do, however, want to scream about random witchcraft topics that interest me. So this is also a bit of an interest check for that, as well as the basics doc.

FINAL NOTE: I fully plan on posting this basics doc before it's done. Some sections will be unwritten or unfinished, because if I wait until I find it "finished" I'll never post it. It's going to be added onto whenever I can, but I feel as though getting it out is the best course of action.

TLDR; Valentino plays himself.

Notes: SO FUCKING FUNNY. Cannot read this in public bc I laughed too much. Val and Vox are both idiots. Perhaps the most human depiction of them that I've seen, especially during sex. Neither of them are suave or coordinated, but by god are they trying.

Summary: Velvette has never been the type to play hero. But when a mysterious new player enacts a dangerous plot to usurp the Vees' power, taking her two idiots hostage in the process, that's exactly where she finds herself. Now she has no choice but to go on an impromptu rescue mission, maintain the facade that everything is fine to the outside world, and prove why she's the backbone of the Vees—and she hasn't even had her morning coffee yet.

Vox and Val are going to owe her so hard after this.

Do you think Captain Marvel (seperate from Billy) considers the Wizard SHAZAM as their father as a sort of creator and creation relationship? Giving room for Billy and grandpa wizard relationship kinda?

I've had a lot of sugar today, so I'm not sure how that sounds, but I kept thinking about your fic, "Split", and how if things took a different turn and Captain Marvel revealed he existed because of the Wizard, would the JL come to the assumption that the wizard was his father/Billy's grandfather?

Or if things took an angstier turn, if Captain Marvel let slip accidentally that he didn't believe that the death of Billy's mother (and actual father) was a genuine accident/had suspicions about it, how would they react? Would they suspect the wizard bc of all the suspicions they're having? Also, I'm not sure if I remember, but did the JL get to have a conversation with the wizard?

Kinda factors into that one ask I sent before, where the gods killed the parents of the champions of magic to challenge and prepare them without them knowing, which might include the wizard, too. (Sorry, I re watched the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 recently and it's been doing numbers on my little mind)

Okay first of all you are so sweet! It's driving me crazy (in a good way) that I can discuss AUs of my fics!

I think that the Wizard already plays a sort of wise grandfather figure to Billy (in my preferred version of him) regardless of Captain Marvel's feelings towards the Wizard.

But I think it's totally logical for Captain Marvel to think of the Wizard as a creator figure, especially in his current incarnation since it was just Shazam who made him instead of a full Wizard's Council. There's respect between them, but Marvel also wants to make Shazam proud, wants to prove he's a good Champion. And I think that can translate to a father-son type dynamic even if it's a lot more complicated than that.

If we're talking Split in particular, the JL "met" the Wizard but Shazam didn't bother talking to any of them so their many confusions and suspicions didn't get brought up to him directly.

But if they had reason to believe Shazam was Marvel’s father, Flash in particular would have been having a freak out because the Wizard would have gone from possibly sketchy mentor to controlling and possibly abusive father/grandfather. He might have even had more people on his side if that was the case (especially if we add in the idea that the Batsons were killed as some kind of test of Billy’s pure heart).

There would still be those who insist that they shouldn't get in the middle of their complicated and potentially messy family situation. But there would also be those who wonder if Marvel had a choice in becoming a hero if his father was the one who imbued him with his powers because it was his "destiny". I can definitely picture Marvel bluescreening if someone asked him if he'd had a choice in being a hero (he didn't, and Billy didn't either) or if he'd ever wanted something else for himself (it had never occurred to him that he could be anything else because he was created to fight evil). His answer would definitely send up some red flags to whoever he's talking to.

There are so many cool ways having people think Shazam is Marvel’s father could play out and it would be so fun to explore that.

And since you mentioned it, while I don’t currently have plans to write an AU of my fics, I AM completely open to other people writing AUs of my fics if they are inspired enough to do it! So long as you credit me as the original author/check the Inspired By box when you post, I encourage you to go for it!

So I Love when superhero comics explore religion and in a good chunk of the comics I've read (basically all marvel) there's an exploration of both how established human religons feel about superhumans and how different superhumans/species/aliens/robots feel about religion. But I feel like I've never seen this in DC comics or heard it mentioned by fans?? Like how do famously vocal and reactive american Christians feel about superman? Wonder woman??? And there's mentions of kryptonian religion but how deep does that lore go? Any good recommendations for this topic or just your thoughts 🤔

hmmmm. you may be interested in supergirl vol. 4 (mae/linda becomes an angel on earth). which is like... honestly, i didn't like those arcs that much because i personally don't really like religious stuff and i also don't think bringing christianity into superfam is Great djflk BUT, if that's what you're curious about, it might be worth a read!! you might also like superman smashes the klan. like, obvs the kkk isnt every american christian but given that there are people in it who are scared of superman when he reveals hes an alien, etc., it's also something i think.

as for kryptonian religion - their gods are... kind of real? like, kind of like how Every [mythical] pantheon is kinda real in dc (and i guess some pantheons that are part of major world religions today, i.e. that tt03 arc based on the ramayana, though i still dont know that i Loved how it was handled). chris kent becomes the vessel for nightwing and thara ak-var becomes the vessel for flamebird (which is fun bc kara's like I don't believe in these gods. meanwhile her bestie/worstie is like That's Cool . one of them is literally in my brain. its a whole thing). however, i'll definitely admit i haven't read a ton of their deep mythos and there's a lot about kryptonian religion i haven't encountered yet myself, so others might have more to add on that!

overall i think dc doesn't really get into religion or particularly real-world religions much because they don't want to alienate anyone. which is kinda like... well yeah marketability, but also i can see how people interested in stories about religion or including religious people might find that disappointing! but for me personally, i grew up in a pretty religious area and i have some degree of religious trauma, and i'm kinda sick of the whole thing, so to me, it's kind of refreshing to just be like yeah god is not a factor in this story.

oh anon I am so sorry it took me forever to get to this. I forgot this was in my inbox 😭 BUT YES I can give you my height headcanons.

Putting this under a cut bc I used hikaku sitatter to compare my headcanon heights months ago + my reasoning

so I'll start out with the ones that didn't change from their canon heights: Yukari, Akihiko, Ken (he is a child and also I couldn't fit him on the chart. it was max 10 people unfortunately), and Koromaru (dog). For Yukari and Akihiko I feel like their canon heights suit them in my very biased opinion.

For Junpei: He just gives tall guy that just had a growth spurt and doesn't know what to do with the extra like 6cm he's acquired. so I went with his height that is canon for P4AU (177cm) instead of his P3 canon height (170.5cm).

For Mitsuru: Her canon height is actually 166cm, but I refuse to believe that. She's still shorter then the guys (excluding Minato) but she is their height by proxy because she always wears heels and boots. It adds to her aura I think.

For Aegis: she is physically a battle robot, built to fight supernatural beings born from the heart. and also her hooves. I actually always thought she was taller than average instead of 163cm just because she was a robot (I've played more P3P then P3fes so I always imagined her to be tall). She was built to be a protector and a tank. There is a lot of juxtaposition in her being a tall robot made of metal and her soft human heart underneath that. Also she needs to be taller than Kotone AND Minato. It's a requirement.

For Fuuka: she is canonically 150cm. I think I made her 154cm because I felt bad that she was so much shorter then everyone... she is still the shortest (not including Ken) but its a smaller gap.

For Shinjiro: his canon height is 177cm. I don't know why I made him 178cm. maybe because I felt he deserved to be at least 1cm taller than Junpei. But you can come to your own conclusions for this.

For Kotone: I never imagined her as being super tall but at least taller than Fuuka and Yukari. And she is a short menace but not a 160cm short menace to me. She stole 5cm from Minato as comeuppance. Also I think it's funny when Minato and Kotone are the same height. not because of the twin headcanon but just because

For Minato: Kotone stole 5cm. and he needs to be shorter than Aegis or its Incorrect. Also considering how inconsistent P3 character heights are displayed (looking at you P3DAN) I kind of default to the way Sogabe draws Minato. Tiny.

And for special-est boy Ryoji: as far as I know I have never found a canon height for Ryoji (which is fine) and I often go off vibes for character heights anyway + I used screenshots from the P3 movies just to get a general idea of Ryoji's possible height. which is probably about 180cm to Minato's canon 170cm (for the movies). I thought it was funny if I kept Ryoji the same (approximate) height despite making Minato shorter. Also there's something endearing about Ryoji being ridiculously tall AND taller than the rest of SEES. godspeed to him. he has probably knocked his head on plenty of doorframes in the span of two months.

I do feel a little better. she was totally open to me owning a house and making that happen if that's what I really want. and lots of programs for low-income to apply to for help with bills. which like I knew existed but my mom and I never applied for them because we always combined our incomes so we always made too much for them. but I am eligibile! and that shouldn't feel scary bc that's literally what they're for. there are lots of things that are supposed to help and that can help. my mom also set her will up Perfectly so that anything we got would go into specific special needs trusts to not affect my brother or my's disability payments, which my cousin's wife will man

hi angel, first of all, thanks a lot for your ask 💞 i wasn't offended at all by your ask, i've liked reading all your thoughts on the fic & especially on jk, it has made me laugh a lot 😂 i also take them into consideration for perfect time, it helps me build the characters and it also helps me to understand how you perceive them. because i imagine one thing but i can be understood totally differently.

the perfect example is eunjin, the baby mama. for me, she's simply trying to help, she doesn't want anything from jk and she doesn't feel threatened by oc because she isn't in love with jk nor does she believe that her daughter would call oc mom. she's concerned and wants to help. i didn't build her to be toxic but some of you perceive her like that.

then yeah, jk has been acting like a complete idiot. he hasn't moved on at all, and is very immature. he simply was overwhelmed with everything & didn't know how to act when he finally got what he desperately wanted for 10 years.

for sure, oc deserves better, jk didn't treat her right. he didn't move on from their relationship & treat her badly when she's finally back. however, I want to believe that people can change with time & maybe jk will change in the future 🤷🏻‍♀️

Things to keep in mind:

I'm still in school so some days I might have more freetime and motivation than others

I'm not always comfortable writing smut sometimes I just want to sit in a dark room and not have skin I'm a person not an AI writing generator

My hyperfixations can end very quickly and return just as fast sometimes I'll be knee deep in a fixation getting and answering requests left and right but It can lose my attention very quickly and leave requests unanswered in my inbox for months I still have two mattheo riddle requests from like January in there

I write what I know and I don't know everything (obviously) but if you send me a request and I don't know much about it I'll do my best to research it and fulfill your request as best I can

I like constructive criticism I'll probably cry but again I'm a crybaby I cried once because I dropped my spoon so don't take it as an offense constructive criticism does not include calling me a slur

I try to keep my fics as inclusive as possible I don't like having gendered fics on my blog bc it's leaving out someone but if you need to get specific for a plot device I understand

Okay I watched the first two episodes of the new PJO show and I have some opinions!!! So please don't read if you haven't seen it already or read the books!

1) "Annabeth is supposed to be white and blonde" "why doesn't Percy have black hair" shut up. Everybody shut up. Can we talk about the fact that they actually managed to cast KIDS? Not 18 year olds who look like they might start university any minute, but 14 year olds who actually LOOK like the age they're portraying? This is such a huge deal for me, because it also makes the terrors of being a half blood so much more real, bc it's KIDS having to fight monsters and losing their loved ones and struggling with being bullied and punished for not fitting in the normal world. So this is an A+ choice for me.

2) I LOVE the way they included Sally in the storyline. They didn't cut down from her parts in the book AT ALL and I'm so so so happy she got a decent amount of screen time and a proper charactarization. This was one of my bigger worries; that they might try to reduce her introduction to cut more screen time for the magic stuff and the camp. But I'm glad they showed her relationship with Percy in a little more depth bc I think it is/will be one of the biggest motivators for Percy throughout the whole story.

3) Gabe could have been WORSE. Yes, he's an insufferable dick but I was looking forward to his comically evil friends playing poker and trashing the living room. They probably thought it would have been too exaggerated, and I can kind of see that. But still I fucking giggled at his "who the hell is Yancy".

4) Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysos. That's it. A better casting choice has never been made.

5) My favourite scene so far is the fight between Percy and Mr D regarding the quest. "No, I am Sally Jackson's son" might just be my favourite line ever. I don't remember wether if it was in the book or not, but either way I love that they included it. Percy is tired. He is in pain. In the span of a couple of days, he has fought two giant mythical creatures, has seen his mother die, has been bullied, harassed and thrown into a new world where he literally knows no one and nothing. He doesn't care for some stupid god who ignored him all his life despite being literally almighty but conveniently shows up when he needs Percys help. He cares about his mom.

5a) Followed by "who is Sally Jackson?!" by Mr D is just equally as powerful and really sells the point that the gods couldn't care less about any human's life or wellbeing. They see the "greater picture" and it really makes you feel Percy's frustration with the whole godly world and their disregard for the mortals involved in it. So far, really really strong writing.

That's it for now, maybe I will add some more later but these were the thoughts immediately popping up as I was watching.

in a recent story, u wrote "Complaining about the teenagers you work with, when you're a team coach, might be a little bit mean, but it was only human nature" and "And as part of keeping their scholarship was being on the team..." this isnt in any way me accusing u of anything. im concerned bc these sentences dont have good implications. while the characters have been referred to as women, the quoted sentences imply this takes place in high school. typically, u attend high school when ur a teen and graduate when ur 18. and ppl join teams for college scholarships. and since melissa is the coach, the first quote says she works with teenagers. it implies that the team members in this story are teens (esp bc she complains about the them later on). you did include "How could they be over eighteen and still so childish and vicious?" in reference to melissa's team members. but it feels kinda like a cop out? esp when this quote "...the kids just lacked the sheer talent..." refers to the rival team. like why would melissa refer to another team who are presumably "over eighteen" as kids? theres alot more i could say. but considering u have "dni if ur a pedo" in ur bio, i would imagine youd want to be told about any implications contained in ur writings. and since ur a writer (esp as one looking for a beta reader), id imagine this sort of criticism would be appreciated. again all of this is in good faith. i dont mean any harm or ill will.

They're in university!! They're IN UNIVERSITY!!! THEY ARE OVER 18!

I made it clear REPEATEDLY that they're in university.

Everything I did was following the requests of the commissioner, and I did my absolute level best to make it clear that they're all 18 and 19 whilst still following what the commissioner wants. I was debating whether or not to accept it at all because I wasn't sure if I could keep it clear and apparent that they were all adults without straying too far from the setup that made the story work.

Yes, the concept of it has some inherent dub-con elements in it but god only knows so does all my work. But everyone in that story is an adult I didn't know how to make it clearer without like writing their ages into the story itself.

Melissa is nearly 40. I am 30 and I refer to people younger than me as kids. I refer to the 24 year olds I work with as kids. In the context of the story, she refers to them as kids to try to make it more clear that she looks down on them and views them as inexperienced and young, not because they're actually kids.

It's not 'a cop out' to make it clear by adding repeated references to the fact that they're over 18, that they're at university, that she is a university coach, that they're vicious and act younger than they are because they never grew out of the 'mean girl' mentality. It's not a 'cop out' when I repeatedly add references to this!! It's one sentence in a bunch of them where I do my very best to make it clear these people are adults, even if they're young adults.

edit; also she does work with teen. let me spell it out.
