I GET THAT THE DEAD POETS SOCIETY BARELY HAS A FANDOM BUT WHY DOES EVERYONE SLEEP ON THE PUNCH SCENE WITH CHARLIE AND CAMERON?? IT'S GENUINELY SO WELL WRITTEN AND PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST DIALOGUE SCENES I'VE SEEN IN FILM??? HELLO?????

every single actor in this scene does such an amazing job. they genuinely all feel like such real and complex characters it's insane.

i don't care if you hate cameron's character but you cannot deny that his scene was amazingly pathetic. his actor did such a perfect job at portraying him almost like a rat backed into a corner. he's doing everything he can to save himself, telling himself he's the one in the right, the one with common sense, when he knows he's faking it. all his dominance is such a pathetic lie and it's genuinely impressive to watch it be portrayed so accurately. it is exactly what it's like to watch someone desperately claw for an ounce of respect. cameron was always a desperate character, and the moment he got the chance to drop his friends and come out "higher" than them, it just made him even sadder to watch.

and meanwhile charlie's the perfect example of failed justice and passion being outpoured all at once. he has so much determination and desire to stand up for what he believes, but it's all pouring out at once. he doesn't know how to handle all of it. he knows he's done for but he can't give up for the life of him, and it all comes out in a solid swing to cameron's face. that single punch probably sums up everything about charlie, and honestly everything i love about him as a character. he seems like a menace-y little bastard, but at the end of the day he just genuinely wants to do what he thinks is right. he's fiercely protective of the people he looks up to but he'll never admit it. that little shit has ZERO clue how to handle his emotions rationally and it's honestly respectable. he doesn't know exactly who he is, but his values are so strong that he's unknowingly guided by them. basically he's just a silly little guy and i hope he punches people more often :3

AND TODD THE BELOVED <33 he is so underrated in this scene it's insane. every word feels like it's falling out of him. he's lost his best friend and he's lost all control over himself. it's powerful seeing such quiet and reserved character unwillingly transform into everything they've been trying to keep down. i will forever be in love with how his character completely breaks down after neil's death. this is kinda just me projecting but he fr feels like a representation of all of my own thoughts when breaking down, except he's actually voicing them. todd supremacy for-fucking-ever.

THE OTHERS ARE ALSO SPECIAL TOO BUT THEY DONT GET A LOTTA LINES FOR ME TO ESPECIALLY ANALYZE SO IM JUST GONNA ADD RANDOM TIDBITS OF THE OTHERS HERE.

i absolutely adore how knox acts in this scene. especially his lines of "don't touch him charlie, you do and you're out," and then for that to be followed by "you don't know that" after charlie's little "i'm out anyway"?????? knox's entire personality in this movie might be about trying to rizz up girls (and it's a little concerning now but it was a different time guys please he's silly guys i swear), but he's honestly SOO sweet when he's not focused on that. he's just as protective of his friends and it's so nice seeing him be the voice of reason. like did u guys not see how quickly he reached for charlie when he was about to kick cameron's ass????? he genuinely wants the best for his friends and he knows them well enough to try and stop them from doing any irrational shit (even tho it failed later but shshsh). love knox for that.

meeks and pitts don't say anything in this scene, but their looks alone give off so much. you can just SEE how much meeks feels betrayed by cameron, and then pitts looks like he's still trying to process the fact that cameron would even do something like that. it's honestly so sad but god it's so amazing to watch.

That was the best movie

i have ever watched.

i went through all 5 stages of grief within the matter of 5 minutes.

SPOILERS FOR MADOKA MAGICA REBELLION BELOW!

i feel like i have never been so touched by a piece of media in my life

since the movie is so long, im not going to touch on every part, only the ones that were the most important to me

I WAS VERY CONFUSED AT THE BEGINNING. it was a huge surprise that the world had been fake (pretty much), because i was almost positive that was homura in her early stages of time travelling....NO. everything had already happened...

when they had begun talking about how the world was created by a witch, i was confused on how Bebe was relevant, since there had been no previous mention of them...and for them to imagine this ENTIRE WORLD just didnt sit right with me. once they started to mention it a little more, i had immediately known it was homura.

still, i started to get emotional when the world started to burn, and it was revealed that homura really was behind this. homura had been the thing she had sworn not to trust, what she hated with all her heart, trapped in her own cage she was trying to escape from...quite literally. that in itself was pretty beautiful to me :(

after all of that, when homura had pretty much sentenced herself to death to make sure that madoka would not be taken advantage of, madoka ended up trying so hard to save homura...i think that their love for eachother is definitely mutual, even if it seems like homuras might overpower madokas, i know that madoks truly cares about keeping homura safe and even in a moment of sacrifice madoka still just longed to be with homura and didnt want her to end that way, it was such a heartwarming moment

especially when god madoka came down to help homura, i started tearing up, it was really pretty and i had these lighst going on in my room and i was wondering the whole time "what does fantasy mean by people dont like what homura does at the end? everything seems fine right now!"

Holy FUCKING SHIT I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT.

I THINK THAT WAS MY *FAVORITE* PLOT TWIST THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN AN ANIME...IT SERIOUSLY BROUGHT OUT ALL THE EMOTIONS IN ME

i was STARING at my tv with my mouth open i could not believe it.....AND WHEN SHE STARTED TO SMILE, I GOT SUPER EXCITED!! I tend to accidently headcanon characters insanity as the smiling insanity, as if they broke, and i had started drawing homura like that but figured it wasnt fitting for her.....DAMN WAS I WRONG!!!!

i LOVE how homura had become an obsessive....not quite lustful, but more...PURELY EVIL DEMON....who had seperated madokas human form and god form to create a madoka who would be able to live happily (i believe?) with an altered memory...GOD, that scene was so POWERFUL, ive been stuck thinking about it all day today....DAMNIT HOMURA, I LOVE YOU EVEN WHEN YOU ARE EVIL!!! And this insane character development just made me love her even more!!!!!!!

then, at the end, when madoka had ended up quickly reuniting with her god form....and the way that homura said that the ribbons look better on madoka....JESUS...i was THIS CLOSE TO CRYING!!! it was almost a bittersweet ending, and that was the best route they couldve chosen...i couldnt tell if i felt sad, at peace.....it was really really beautiful!

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

that scene with the flower field....THE SCENE WITH THE FLOWER FIELD HAD ME NEAR SOBBING...i thought it was gorgeous and the way that they hugged...the thought that this would be one of the last times homura would be able to hear madoka say those heartfelt things to her, just seeing her sit there....it was really blissful :(

THE SCENE WITH THE STATUE TURNING TO TAR!!!! that was AMAZING symbolism, holy shit! i just kinda stared at the tv for a little bit...its as if homuras love was infecting madoka....i love it so much.

i cant quitteee remember this one very well, but when madoka started t-posing and sunk into the ground, becoming this liquid, the homura becoming liquid, then a mini homura smashing it up? I DONT THINK IM REMEMBERING IT RIGHT, but i just know that it kind of hit me, it reminded me of no matter how hard homura had kept trying to save madoka, she kept dying...and all she went through within all of the timelines were ultimately very small and hardly mattered, since in the end, she failed...THATS HOW I SAW IT!

(and also, the fight with mami was AMAZING!!!! The music, the combat, the intensity, oh my god!! and when homura shot herself, and then held it up to mami, i was like WHATS GOING ON?!?!?)

this movie was absoloutely beautiful, touching, intense, i....literally have no words to describe it.

I PROBABLY WOULDVE NEVER GOTTEN TO WATCHING IT IF YOU DIDNT RECCOMEND IT TO ME FANTASY!!! THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO MUCH...that was *seriously* one of the best experiences of my life, i went through so much in such a little amount of time...the fascinating scenery with the witches and the everything looked amazing as always, this was just a very very special and UNIQUE movie to me and i stayed involved the whole time...I DONT THINK ANYTHING THAT ILL EVER WATCH WILL TOP THAT, HONESTLY.....

my pedro almodóvar marathon. thoughts, feelings, tier list

or, i spent like 50 hours on this so i better get to post about it

well, i'd be lying if i said i set out to do this with any clear goals in mind. i sort of just wanted to watch movies. this year i set out to watch through a couple of directors entire works, but ran into complications or got bored. so anyway when i finished my term i decided id try a third time with my best friend pedro. i had watched five of his films already but was mostly unaware of other things he had made. on the 22nd of november i started with matador, then went on and in exactly a month i had watched all of his feature films yayyy

so this is how i ranked them on letterboxd and this is a tier list. this doesnt really sum up my thoughts though so im leaving a little review for each below the cut, in the order i watched them in this month hope someone cares :) thank you

matador (1986): ohhhhhh my god. absolutely unexpected how insane this movie made me. many people say its not very good, i dont think that's true. transgressive, erotic, camp, necrosexual, implicit faggot tension, beautiful costuming, insanely talented cast of so many characters sick in the head. watching this one first really hyped me up to keep at it and to close out the month i rewatched it the other day and though it was less surprising than the first time i watched it its maybe my favorite now :) it has structural flaws i suppose. but i love it

¿que he hecho yo para merecer esto? (1984): pretty funny! not bad at all, i remember enjoying it as i watched it, it just wasnt very memorable. i enjoy every performance by carmen maura, chus was stellar as always and forqué was really sweet in this one too, i liked it. i literally forgot half of the plot though. did anyone remember the telepathic child or the faked hitler diaries? i didnt until i looked it up.

la ley del deseo (1987) (rewatched): showed this one to my friend, god its iconic. some of my favorite chiques almodovar. so fun to watch and so silly even though its not quite a comedy. the fact that antonio is just called antonio in this one makes me unwarrantedly happy. MAURA THE WOMAN THAT YOU ARE!! very hot all around. i think i liked it better this time than the other two i had watched it.

pepi, luci, bom y otras chicas del montón (1980): everyone talks about how sexually transgressive 80s almodovar is and i was like yeah whatever until i watched this one. straight up trilogy of trash shit. so beautiful. i wish every movie was like this. no one likes it but i adored it. erecciones generales will stay in my mind forever and i loved the musical numbers. and the piss, of course.

entre tinieblas (1983): also somewhat forgettable, though i watched it while pretty worried about something else so maybe i didnt give it the attention it deserved. its not a bad time but i wouldn't rewatch it. based on the premise you think it'd be better.

la flor de mi secreto (1995) (rewatched): OH GOD. until last month my favorite almodóvar, its been outdone but it still destroys me. its terribly underrated. i dont even know what i can say about it... marisa paredes is stunning at doing desperation. the boots, the scene at the protest, the initial meeting with ángel, the poem in the car, that moment in the hall. it's beautiful and breathtaking. lesbian film history, i promise.

átame (1989): took a big break between the last one and this one for some reason. anyway, pretty funny, except it really drags in the middle. shouldnt have been that long, but victoria abril always slays and the last scene is wonderful.

tacones lejanos (1991): WOAHHHHH! really cool i liked it. i love a mother daughter thing especially this mother and this daughter. really fun doppelganger story and i love how it was told, i found it both melodramatic and subtle? miguel bosé makes a really pretty girl, this will inform my every subsequent rewatch of suspiria. big fan of his gender. dance number fucked obvs

kika (1993) (rewatch): ok, i know why people don't like this one, but its so silly... cmon. it sillay. once again incredible abril performance, the costuming my god.... her character makes the whole movie i wish i was her. lesbian rossy de palma was wonderful and every forqué performance is a delight. pedro getting hitchcockian with it to slightly trick the audience is a staple of his 90s filmography, fucks.

carne trémula (1997): the title made me think it would be better! there was barely any carne. i didn't really see the point of most of it tbh, though based on how the movie starts and ends there might be some spanish historical context that im missing that makes it more interesting. strangely reminiscing of the buenos aires affair to me, but puig is better. yeah it was just pretty boring.

laberinto de pasiones (1982): YAYYYYYY i had some trouble torrenting so i watched it really out of order this but its SO FUN. obviously in the same vein as pepi luci bom but i liked it slightly more just for how unnecessarily elaborate it was. the one major role i dont mind roth being in and im a big fan of antonios gay terrorist with an ultradeveloped sense of smell character and arias is really into his very silly character too – he works well in secreto as well, i wish hed been on more almodovares, i should finally watch camila. liné was hilarious too. the problematic incest storyline was really funny to me sorryyyyy and i got a lot of gender out of the musical performances. hey can you believe that beautiful fag covered in blood is a franquista now. i can

hable con ella (2002): ehhhhhhh. some people really hate this one for the couple scenes i found most interesting, others love it for reasons i cant parse. its got parts that caught my attention a lot, but mostly it was eerie in an unenjoyable and uninteresting way and the backstories dragged on too long, especially grandinetti's. like i just don't care sorry. THE scene is quite disturbing though. i appreciated he decided to show rape in a more subtle light for once, it made it a lot more cruel and a lot more interesting.

la mala educación (2004) (rewatch): sighhhh. i really wish i liked this one. its got so many elements i am into – the colours are obviously spectacular, the unreliable multiple narrations and the disassembled timelines are always enjoyable to me, the attempt at social commentary is appreciated, some scenes are stunning (fictional ignacios head split in half is unforgettable) but quite honestly the characterization is so bad it bores me. i liked it more the first time i watched it just because of how confused i was, once i wasnt it lost its magic. maybe the worst in what is considered the "somewhat autobiographical movies about directors" trilogy (i think there's four of them but we'll discuss that later) probably because the character of enrique is so bland. i know its more but it feels that you only spend like five minutes with him. ángel/juan's motivations for anything are so puzzling, ignacio is just a caricature at this point and probably the character with the most depth is berenguer, which is ironic, i guess

volver (2006): WAHHH. its hard to talk about it honestly. it was so unexpectedly beautiful. the acting is so on point – penélope cruz and that beautiful carmen maura comeback are self evident, but blanca portillo is also stellar. it was fascinating from minute one and i couldnt keep my eyes off it. its written with such care and love. i suppose the plot itself is nothing out of this world, but the way it is handled is explosive. i really adored it.

los abrazos rotos (2009): the fourth bastard on the self insert series! cmon, its way more about himself than la mala educación. anyway, its good at some points, not very in others. the strong point is obviously the relationship between mateo, judit and diego, their refusal to be tied as a family and their desire to be tied by love is reaaaally interesting. the scene at the sea... but penélope and her millionaire and her millionaires son do nothing interesting at any point, im afraid to say. sad! surprisingly not very memorable, even though i didnt dislike it as i watched it. like i remember i liked some things but if a couple weeks later i dont remember what they were its probably the movies fault

la piel que habito (2011): AUGHHH OK. fuck. THIS ONE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD. it wasnt it was really mid. when it started i was like oh is pedro trying out his hand at cronenberg and i was really excited because im SURE he can do cronenberg better than cronenberg but he didnt. it was worse. how are you giving your women less agency than that guy??? honestly probably the first ever film of his where this is a noticeable problem, though penélope in the last one should give us a hint. ughh it should have been good. im mad about that. no desire to question gender or power and the unchronological storytelling does nothing for me. BAD! if anything i recognized its sexual power for if banderas character was a woman i would be throwing up and convulsing on the floor. i hope vicente and his lesbian coworker had a beautiful romance i guess. i cant believe some people call this one one of the most controversial of his work....

los amantes pasajeros (2013): hm well everyone was like THIS is the bad one and i was like i bet you guys are just being mean but no yeah this is the bad one. its not funny and it drags on so long...i can usually defend the rape scenes in his movies, even in kika or hable con ella, but this one just sucks so bad. i was prepared to defend this movie but i cant. as soon as the movie started i was trying to guess where all the threads would connect, how all the characters would be linked and they mostly... weren't? also the reference to the gazpacho scene in mujeres made me groan out loud.

julieta (2016): well i dont really know what this was supposed to be....it feels on the surface it could have been really good but something about it felt so emotionless. it was an odd experience, watching it, because i expected to be moved by so many scenes and i never was. i dont know what the point of it was.

dolor y gloria (2019): ok yeah this one was sweet! didn't blow my mind or anything but it was very cleverly made...a really more beautiful way to do the childhood-as-movie thing than in mala educación, i really enjoyed it. nostalgia bores me sometimes but i feel hes not being annoying about it. long live old man yaoi (and finally an argentinian actor i DONT hate...) and that beautiful beautiful cave and that mind gripping apartment bringing in the characteristic insane set design but in a new way...i had a good time

madres paralelas (2021): oh this could have been so good! it wasnt but honestly i dont remember exactly why i disliked it. i suppose i didnt connect to the characters and that it is a story that requires that to engage you – their motivations were really out of place and unlike other movies that bothered me. really interesting premise, didnt work out. im sad about it. could have been cool.

yeah so that's it i only realized while writing this that i forgot to rewatch mujeres but obvs that ones very good, proper classic, quote it every time i eat gazpacho and such. also extraña forma de vida is a snore i refuse to watch it again. i hope this works as a rec list for someone. and i am ready to be stoned by my wrong opinions by the rest of you

He ends up with Damien😋 he gets along with Lucien (Damiens son) pretty well as Mars was major punk in his teen/young adult years (he still has his piercings and a few little tattoos) Lucien thinks he's badass even if he doesn't still dress all punk anymore🙏 Damien is very appreciative that Mars understands his son so well because he was low-key confused about half the shit Lucien says or does😭

She sees Damiens fancy ass garden and is so impressed she asks him so many questions about how he takes care of it, where he gets his seeds, etc. Their kids getting along with the other was definitely a big part in Mars and Damien moving forward with their relationship🙏 because no matter how much ya like someone if your kids don't vibe with them, it's gonna be a huge mess

See I've been thinking about this for quite a bit now in the midst of everyone trying to divide and conquer what version of The Little Mermaid is the 'best one' {TM} and then I think to just how linear and straight forward the animated actually is {not hating, far from it, and its something I definitely caught in the midst of my whole let me go prove my x y and z to everyone's a b c and d mentality}.

And I've been thinking about HOW and WHY the LA feels like such a gut wrench all consuming feeling, {mind you its all I've thought about for a whole half month}.

And I think its because they took care to expand so much of the story that wasn't just your standard animation and musical by pulling bits from the original HCA story, as well as pulling the whole bit of Ariel's mom dying from Ariel's Beginning and taking bits and pieces from Return to the Sea, add on to how AUTHENTIC the romance actually feels without being the straight forward linear beat for beat that the animated one is. Like they really took that and decided yeah no Ariel and Eric will still have that linear from the animated but we are going to really LEAN INTO the whole fact that they are actually strangers to acquaintances to friends to lovers. I'm kissing the ground for them making them friends in between literally everything but I think because that whole aspect rocked me so hard was because of how those two really just became besties on set as filming progressed. Which makes the whole bit with them saying goodnight even more insane because yeah dude realized he's in love but it had the whole vibe of {oh shit... I'm in love with my best friend?} and that's not even adding in the fact that you could actually FEEL everything Ariel and Eric were feeling as the relationship progressed... like this movie and Rob Marshall really said YOU THE AUDIENCE DONT JUST GET TO WATCH A SIMPLE DYNAMIC BETWEEN TWO YOUNGSTERS GROW YOU GET TO BE THE THIRD WHEEL TO THIS ROMANTIC JOURNEY NO NOTES. {Not to bring this up again but....the whole suddenness of how he grabs for her hand during the Kiss the Girl scene rocked me so hard the moment it happened that it literally nearly took me out.} That's why when they have the extra time separated after the battle with Ursula it just gets you in the most UNEXPECTED WAY and makes you see all the obstacles that are against them. In hindsight they could've made it so basic by not constantly throwing things at the both of them. But they deliberately chose not to so...

All that being said it really makes me think on just how much those two actually go through this whole entire movie because god the ending and them finally together and reunited feels so EARNED and DESERVED.

And I know it shouldn't shock me but I'm still thrown by the fact that out of all the disney live actions this movie is the longest out of all the live action runtimes.

I really don't want people thinking that I'm discrediting the classic when I say this but the difference to me is that yes I loved the animation as a kid but I also had a myriad of other Ren Era classics that I loved a tad bit more, it really depended on the day but sit me down with any of those era films and I will quote half of the movie {if not the whole thing} so this live action being one of my fave faves from the tip of the Ren Era is this weird euphoric feeling?

inglourious basterds - the elements of suspense; my god, do i love this movie....... this is a yearly watch for me, i've memorized the lines and all. the performances are great, the soundtrack is amazing, it's so fucking funny??? and i'm now also realizing how much of a filmbro i'm actually coming off as but do i care? not at all. i love this movie.

annihilation - the art of self-destruction; okay i mentioned this already but i'm doing it again!!!!!!! it's such a fucking experience i really actually hope you'll watch it one day (and that you'll tell me your thoughts) this is also like a life-changer of a movie in my opinion, i often just randomly start thinking about it; the visuals, the insanity of it aaaaahhhh.

blade runner 2049 (2017) - a film about a replicant/an android detective who finds out that another replicant had a child many years ago (replicants cannot have children) and he's now convinced that he is said child this is sci-fi with some action and blood but it's not scary plus points for the insane visuals and the soundtrack 9/10 minus point for it being kind of slow paced?

the nice guys (2016) - a film about two private detectives; one of them is almost cool and the other one is so pathetic i love him so much this is a comedy so 10/10

the man from uncle (2015) - a film about spies spying on each other, it's so fun (the soundtrack is good but we knew that already didn't we smh) 9/10 minus point for armie hammer the cannibal

2. How did you find out about or discover it?

i'd seen the movie before and when the trailer came out i thought it looked really good so it was on my radar before it came out. but the reason i actually started watching was that i was disappointed in house of the dragon bc daemon and rhaenyra weren't a toxic enough couple when they actually got together and i wanted to watch some toxic romance. lol

ok long version of the story! (sorry if you don't care about hotd lol)

i was really excited about hotd after the trailers started coming out and like the freak i am, i was especially excited to see the insane uncle/niece incest grooming go from gross to fun when they eventually marry and fight a war and everything goes wrong and they're both crazy and toxic and evil. that's my idea of a good time. this shot from the trailer in particular had me excited for this dynamic:

and the beginning was so promising, their scenes when she's still a teenager played by the younger actress milly alcock are very intriguing! creepy but intriguing.

but then episode 7 happens. i knew ahead of time that the plot of the episode was that daemon's wife has just died and at her funeral he fucks his niece, as you do, and then suddenly rhaenyra's husband also dies and they get married for succession war reasons without permission from her father the king who would fucking hate this. insane sequence of events! and i'd heard that the marriage ceremony was going to be valyrian rites with blood and stuff. for the uninitiated, valyrian refers to the (mostly) lost civilization of blond people who ride dragons and do incest and they're rumored to have done blood magic and stuff. so i had high hopes for this whole valyrian marriage rites scene. a blood sacrifice? some animal or...? an altar with LOTS of blood! their dragons take to the air! they should fuck on the bloody altar while their dragons fuck in the air! either way the visuals will be insane and amazing!

yeah, so the episode airs. and i'm BORED. they made this shit boring somehow. the dialogue is bad and so is the directing. they have a bland conversation about their respective marriages and then have some tepid sex. it just doesn't look like they're that into it even. was that intentional? i cant tell. other more interesting stuff happens and then close to the end of the ep shes like uncle i need you so i can win the eventual war that everyone knows is going to be break out so we should get married. hes like hmm ok. but shes already married so they fake her husband's death so he can sail into the sunset with his boyfriend. toxicity and evilness toned down as much as possible. then they marry and the valyrian ritual is just like. fine. no dragons. they cut their palms so there is blood. if i saw it without prior expectations i'd probably think it was kinda cool but i had built it up in my head to be way cooler so.

in the next episode they kinda just act like a normal couple. despite the whole incest age gap uncle niece grooming shit. i wanted them to be screaming. i am sad about it.

im on tumblr and i see a post with a jacob anderson quote saying iwtv is basically a show about a married couple slamming doors on each other. i'd seen some gifs and ofc i'd seen the trailer months ago but this makes me go !!!!! THIS could be the toxic marriage i was looking for! i go watch it immediately. two episodes have aired so far but it only took me one to fall in love! new obsession unlocked! louis de pointe du lac is my truest love!

at that point im barely able to give half a shit about hotd anymore, i dont even watch the last two eps until days or weeks later. (in the last episode daemon and rhaenyra do get more interesting as they have some tension over him acting like he's in charge even though she's the queen and he's just her consort. he also strangles her a bit when he gets upset, which is very unsurprising from a misogynistic violent man who murdered his first wife (of 3) but some people were shocked. insert iwtv comparison here.) (i've also rewatched hotd with new eyes recently and enjoyed those episodes a lot more when i didnt have my own expectations clouding everything. i WOULD recommend the show for anyone who thinks family drama leading to a literal war feat. dragons sounds like a fun time. it is good and hopefully will be continue to be! also that quote from the showrunner saying daemon wanted to marry his brother and his niece was the closest he could get to was fucking life changing. ryan condal said gay targcest rights. also rhaenicent<3)

People die, Zoey yells about loving each other and beating the game, character makes a sacrifice for the others, then of course we have the guy yelling about survival of the fittest and how we can’t care about people, etc. which doesn’t even get a reasonable explanation despite there certainly being room for one, he’s just a dick for fun. Which is fine on its own I suppose, but once you wrap that in with the rest of the plot?? Eugh. It was ok. It told a story, had characters, and did what it was supposed to do i guess.

THE SECOND ONE. OH MY GOD. I need you to know that. This was incredibly un needed. Not to spoil the movie or anything but at the end Zoey and other guy are like living a normal life, Zoey won’t let it go, and they agree to fly over to some coordinates that conveniently exist on the logo for some reason. iirc, Zoey had bought plane tickets. Last scene is of the bad guys building an evil plane which isn’t a terrible scene to convey the basic information. Now, we have a neat little bow tie on things and some speculation people can do if they want. THE SECOND ONE.

Most Epic Villain: i dont think you can call a lot of them epic on account of every mgs villain being goofy as fuck. BUT. liquid ocelot as a villain in what was (supposed to be) the conclusion of the entire series was pretty fucking awesome though

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: just give her more relationships tbh... i already talked about bb but like do you think she knew ocelot was the boss' son ... what did she think of him shed probably dislike him for doing the complete opposite of the boss' will (though in the end he does help take down the patriots so liiike?) ... i would pay millions of dollars for them to interact it would be atrocious. in general i wish shed been given just a little more depth outside of the boss (like give me more about how she grew up!!! what kind of mother was she to otacon!!! and ps i wish hed spoken about her even though ik she wasnt even a thing before the solid snake era wrapped up) though ig that was the point considering she was so consumed with grief... but yk. shrugs.

THIS is what i want from horror. holy fucking shit.

this was a BLAST, from beginning to end. i genuinely think this is the best horror to come out of 2023. the cinematography was great, the special effects were fantastic. i cannot give this movie enough credit. go into this completely blind, i beg of you.

as i said up there ^^ this was the best horror this year thus far. it is gonna be VERY hard to beat. however, i do have some nitpicks, so lets get those outta the way first.

near the middle it definitely drags a little, but nothing really that took me outta the movie. some of the acting can be a little ehhh but again, nothing that took me out, i still had a blast.

it was SCARY?! and i dont get scared during horror most of the time. i was very shocked at how much tension it brought. and most of the time they didnt even have to rely on the loudest possible noise ever to get me to clutch the plush i brought.

the characters were incredible, i genuinely felt like i was peaking into the lives of this group of friends. and theres a trans person!!!! PLAYED BY A TRANS PERSON!!!!!!! i am so so happy, that made me almost cry when they were first introduced. speaking of crying, i actually did end up crying !!! theres a scene where Mia is looking at snapchat memories of her dead mom, and man. that really hits me very deeply as someone who loves my mother very, very much.

even despite the tension, the emotion, it was still funny (when it wanted to be.) theres a scene where Mia gets possessed and SUCKS on her ex boyfriend's TOES and he wakes up and is like "Mia you were suckin' on my foot?!" (said Australian-ly) and that got a giggle outta the theater.

the attention to detail is insane. Mista GG (who i love) touched on this in his review, but all of the hand symbolism is very nice to see. i love details like that. i picked up on a little bit of it, but he definitely opened my eyes to new symbolism like Mia's mom getting wood under her fingernails from scratching at the bathroom door after attempting to take her own life, or Mia constantly picking at her fingernails only to repaint them again. the little shit like that makes my heart happy.

the ENDING, god the ending. so hopeless. it fills you with emptiness. i LOVE IT!!! i love when horror is helpless and scary and dreadful!!!

the amount of love and care put into this movie makes me so, so happy. and it was made by YOUTUBERS !! thats crazy!!! i havent heard of these guys before but you can tell they LOVE their craft, they LOVE what they do, and i am so excited to see more from them. i want to consume everything they create and then some.

i honestly think i'm going to go see this one again if i don't have anything to watch this friday. i am so excited to see what these directors have in store for a potential sequel, the Street Fighter movie that they're directing, and the movie they've been wanting to make that they talked about in the Anthony Padilla interview. i am obsessed!!!

idk why we as a society are not only uncritically accepting a multimillion dollar toy commercial in cinemas but actively embracing it!!! i see red whenever i see people make jokes like “barbie is going to save cinema” like i’m fully aware such statements are just for laughs but consider the fact that movies like this are killing cinema, actually! why is everyone so excited for this movie??? why is it so hyped up??? why have so many of the people i know bought into this hype hook line and sinker??? “well it’ll be good and not like a lame superhero movie because greta gerwig is directing it and noah baumbach wrote it” have you considered the fact that this probably took up at least a year of the lives of two acclaimed independent filmmakers when they could have been making idk something that wasn’t a toy commercial?? literally anything else?? sure get that paycheck whatever but it’s so sad that filmmakers have to do shit like this if they want to really make money. and the thing is i understand the desire to see it because it probably will be good, or at least entertaining — the production value is clearly quite high, there’s a large cast of very popular actors, etc. — but it’s frustrating to see the same people i know irl who complain about all the dumb formulaic mcu bullshit and the horrible disney live action remakes suddenly turn around and uncritically and unironically be so excited for this movie, and participate in the hype train that mattel is counting on to market the movie. (and okay yes the memes are funny and yes i have enjoyed them. i am not immune to a good meme. but STILL) like barbie is not only part of the problem it’s making the problem worse!! how do you not realize this is one of the same bullshit IP-driven marketing vehicles that we’ve been subjected to for years now?? or if you do realize it, why am i not hearing anyone acknowledge that?? “let people enjoy things” sure go for it im not saying you can’t!! but at least be honest about what you’re enjoying!!!! i think that’s the crux of the issue for me tbh. i dont care that barbie exists (even if it annoys me) or that people are enjoying it but it makes me crazy that i’m seeing almost nothing even remotely critical of it or acknowledging the larger and very harmful phenomenon that this movie is absolutely undeniably a part of. and maybe i’m overreacting a little and maybe there actually is a huge critical discussion of the movie occurring in spaces i’m not aware of, but i think my point still stands

here are my thoughts on the x-men movies since ive finished most of them

x-men (2000): in my top 3. love mags and xavier in this one mostly because its ian mckellan & patrick stewart. my main gripes are with the merging of magnetos and mystiques brotherhoods & the exclusion of destiny from the brotherhood. magneto being willing to sacrifice his life & another mutants for his dream to be realized seems pretty accurate but i feel like they didnt make it clear enough that if the plan worked he would have died too...? HATE wolverine trying to put the moves on jean grey but thats true regardless of whether its a movie or a comic or a stageplay for all i care.

x2: the plot of this one kind of lost me mostly because i havent read god loves man kills yet so i didnt have any basis to understand wtf was going on except stryker was there and hes evil. love maggy in the prison being emo and shit although them deciding when he can or cant fly or use certain powers seems pretty arbitrary... ? i feel like deathstryke is treated pretty poorly by the plot here seeing as shes you know kind of an important character who they never introduce properly. nightcrawler looks better in this movie than he does in the later ones but still not good.

last stand: ive already talked about the choice of angel & worthington industries as the villains in this one so i won't go over it again. i think its DEEPLY funny that scott disappears and wolverine finds his glasses (which he cannot live without) just lying around and doesn't think "hey i wonder what happened to cyclops" until jean is quite literally unbuckling his belt halfway through trying seduce him. why does no one in these films seem to give a fuck about what happens to cyclops he dies in the first 10 minutes of the movie and its never addressed. also prof x dies in this one and i dont remember how he comes back to life so what was that. also they fuck up bobbys characterization SOOOO bad like i know they didnt know he was gay and he is kind of a player but in the comics kitty uses him as a rebound then breaks up with him and then his younger self (teleported to the future from the 60s) is like "why arent you gay. i'm gay" and bobby is like "no i'm also gay. i just act straight because of irish catholic guilt". so having him cheat on rogue with kitty and pressure rogue into getting the mutation blocker thing so they can have sex is retroactively an insane plotline. sorry im bobby drakes number one fan and this is so fake. also beast is so hot in this movie. what? who said that. also the phoenix plotline sucks and also magneto was right to try and explode the factory or whatever

origins wolverine: INCREDIBLY funny movie serious excellent. completely unintentional in how funny it is but so enjoyable to watch. why was cyclops there? why was emma frost there? what is going on in this movie? why is wolverine naked all the damn time? why does he know the blob? why can he BEAT the blob? why is the blob in this movie? seriously what the fuck is going on in this movie? x-men origins wolverine does not have answers to these questions. its really great to see the awful cgi claws though. i liked that gambit was in this movie.

first class: i have a lot of questions on this one. why is hank here. why is mystique acting like a child when she should be over 70 years old at the least. why would they get my hopes up by putting banshee and moira in the same movie but then not give them a relationship. why the fuck is scott summers' younger brother here. however it does well by making you root for magneto and then being like "and everybody then teamed up with magneto because hes awesome and abandoned xavier except for hank because theyre both centrist democrats" like you know what. so true. i like how mags just starts drama constantly for no reason like why was he fucking w mystique like that... good for him i guess but hes so gay in this movie its not even funny. okay it is funny but only a little.

the wolverine: i fell asleep during this one so i don't know but it seemed weird and racist in many ways and wolverine was a complete bitch during it for NO reason as always. also its so funny to see him fail on screen with basic japanese when in the comics he gets mind wiped and regains the ability to speak japanese before he regains english like that guy is an r/whiteguyswithasianwives prodigy. i liked deathstryke in this movie the actress was very cool. why didnt wolverine take the deal to save his friend and not be immortal anymore when he fucking hates being immortal half the time like bro come on... i hate him sorry

days of future past: okay at this point they should have known bobby drake was gay. so why all that with kitty. also why blame MYSTIQUE for the creation of the sentinels dawg she had nothing to do with that in the comics. the sentinels were not purple enough OR big enough btw. also, where is rachel summers. you cant do days of future past without rachel summers. either way this was a pretty good movie. quicksilver was excellent.

apocalypse: guys. why is scott summers wearing raybans. here are some other questions i hate about this movie: why is cyke's backstory never properly discussed. why do they give cyke angel or bobby's personality. why does nightcrawler look so bad. why would apocalpse choose angel over literally anyone else. why is it never addressed that nightcrawler is mystique's son. why is psylocke here if theyre not going to do anything with her. why is xavier such an annoying liberal. why would they introduce a new magneto daughter when he already has like 3 to pick from. why dont hank and mystique just sort their shit out. why does mystique go to bat so hard for maggy. why does jean already have telepathic abilities when she and scott meet thus making the way they originally get together (one of the main reasons i give a fuck about their relationship) impossible. who is the girl with the yellow hoop earrings they hang out with. dazzler??? why does jean have the phoenix spirit in her if she hasnt died yet. why isnt storm in her home on the mountain at this point. why is moira not scottish. why introduce her son if theyre not going to do the moira son plotline. last but not least, why would they include any character in this movie who wasnt quicksilver when hes obviously the best character by a wide margin and all scenes that dont include him are basically worthless. otherwise i quite enjoyed it. i liked angels haircut and im so glad they FINALLY made xavier bald.

Idk that just struck me? they were so loyal to Bucky that they risked something like that when they knew how nuts Hydra was? And then Bucky still gets taken away from them to be experimented on… But I wonder what other absolutely crazy shit they pulled that we don’t know abt.

I absolutely love the howlies!

this is a long answer so it's below the cut

and yes! this is all canon! if you're a comic book person, this is all detailed in Captain America: The First Vengeance - the companion comic to the movie. The guard, Lohmer, singled out and beat Bucky up pretty badly while he already was sick (I think they said he had pneumonia from poor conditions in the cells) so the Howling Commandos staged an 'accident' for Lohmer and crushed him under a bunch of metal. By doing so, another guard took his place and allowed Bucky to take a day off from work at the prison camp.

And then yeah, Zola found out he was sick and took him to the isolation ward. So there's that. Which sucks.

I think that the movie did us a disservice by not showing the bond between the Howling Commandos. Even in the tie-in comics, they really emphasize that they were very close, almost like brothers, and that they were 100% willing to do absolutely insane shit for each other. (including murder)

ON ANOTHER (darker, of course, it's me) NOTE:

y'all ever think about how Steve said 'sometimes we did stuff that made us not sleep so good'?

I heavily headcanon that the howlies didn't take prisoners. They operated quickly, quietly, behind enemy lines, and couldn't have brought prisoners back with them. Following this train of thought, the Commandos would've had to be pretty ruthless.

SO

yeah, I think that the murder of Lohmer, the prison guard, kinda shows that the Commandos had no issues with doing what had to be done to achieve their necessary ends. Need the guard to stop bothering Bucky? Alright, we kill him.

Can't bring prisoners back to base? Alright, we don't leave any survivors.

Okokok here’s a lil excerpt from the modern!Bucky/Cap!Sam fic I’m working on right now

“So,” Barnes drawls. “You’re the new Cap. Guess you’re going to have to get used to stuff like this.”

Sam groans. “I hate stuff like this,” he says.

Barnes grins and takes another long sip of his drink, and then sets the empty glass on the bar. “Aw, c’mon,” he teases. “It’s not so bad. Open bar, good food in tiny portions. And hey, it’s raising money for the VA, which if I’m correct, is right up your alley. What’s not to love?”

“Feels like every single conversation is a minefield,” Sam says. “Everybody’s trying to figure me out, see what I’ll do now that I’ve publicly taken up the shield. I’m tired of politicians.”

“Between you and me,” Barnes says quietly, “it’s not the politicians you should be worrying about. It’s the regular lookin’ guys. Everybody reports to somebody.” And then, as if that’s not the most daunting thing Sam’s heard all day, Barnes grins and shoots Sam a mock-salute. “Have a good night, Captain Wilson.”

Ok, but in light of the recent fic with Bucky having a nightmare and Sarah taking care of him. How about Bucky taking care of Sarah? idk, maybe Sarah is sick and Bucky makes here some soup and does all the house chores. Or Sarah has a nightmare about losing Sam or Bucky and Bucky comforts her. Imagine the possibilities. You don't have to write anything, if you do you would be amazing and wonderful. And I'd thank you so much! But really, I'm only here to share thoughts.

Lighten the Load - SarahBucky

probably rated T for some language

Sarah wakes, groggy and disoriented, head throbbing something fierce. Her throat feels like it’s on fire, dry and scratchy, and a hoarse, wheezing cough rips itself out of her throat as she struggles to sit up. God, what time is it? It feels like she’s slept either way too much or not enough, but judging by the sunlight pouring in through the window, she’s thinking it’s the former. 

Wait. 

Shit. 

The bedside clock reads 10:30AM, and she’s certain she didn’t wake up and drive the boys to school without realizing it. Sarah scrambles, barely remembering to throw on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt before running out of bed, down the stairs, and-

Straight into Bucky’s chest. 

“Whoa,” he says. “What’s the rush?”

“Where are the boys?” she asks around another coughing fit. 

“School,” Bucky says, one eyebrow raised. “I dropped them off for 8:30. They supposed to be somewhere else?” 

Sarah shakes her head, still resting against Bucky’s chest. He’s warm, and Sarah feels so, so cold, so she doesn’t bother moving. After a long minute, he wraps one arm around her waist, pulling her a little closer and kissing the crown of her head. 

“D’you wanna sit down?” he asks. “You were pretty out of it this morning, so I didn’t bother trying to wake you up.” 

“I had things to do this morning,” Sarah groans. “Errands. Chores. Work.” 

“You had a fever of 102.4,” Bucky says patiently. “And I called the restaurant, let them know you wouldn’t be coming in. Chores are done, but I didn’t want to leave the house to run errands until you were awake.” 

Huh.

She’s not really sure what to make of that. “The laundry,” she says. 

“Done,” Bucky replies easily. “Well. The last load is still in the dryer, but it’s almost done. Everything else is folded and put away.” Strong arms steer her in the direction of the couch until she drops gracelessly down onto it, and then the throw blanket is wrapped around her shoulders, all one-handed. When she looks up at Bucky, she sees that he’s holding a mug, tea bag wound around the handle, and he offers it to her. 

“Peppermint,” he says, “should help with your throat. You were coughing in your sleep.” 

“I need to do the dishes,” Sarah says dumbly. 

“They’re done,” Bucky replies. “And the garbage has been taken out. How are you feeling?” 

“Did the boys get something for lunch?” 

“Sarah,” Bucky says, voice calm but serious. “I can get the boys ready for school. Lunches packed, at the front doors twenty minutes early. You need to rest, you’re sick.” 

There’s a part of her that doesn’t know how to let go, though. Part of her wants to see that everything has been done properly, to do it herself, even though she feels like absolute shit. 

“Cass needed his soccer uniform,” she says. 

“I know,” Bucky says, his tone now slightly amused. “Sarah. Hey.” 

He cups her cheek and forces her to look into his eyes, wide and blue and genuine. “Yeah?” she says.

Sarah/Bucky - Bucky has his first night terror in front of Sarah?

Absolutely!

Night Terrors - Sarah/Bucky, 730 words

She falls asleep warm and content, the feeling of Bucky’s arms wrapped around her waist, his nose buried in the crook of her neck, breath warm against her skin. There’s no better feeling in the world - he fits behind her like a puzzle piece, a warm weight behind her, his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm that Sarah matches until she feels her eyes closing, the space between blinks getting shorter and shorter, her mind drifting off into the pleasant haze of dreams.

Waking is less pleasant, though - she’s not sure what startles her at first, too disoriented from being suddenly roused to piece together what’s wrong. It’s still dark outside, the cool night breeze gusting through the open window, moonlight barely illuminating the floor on her side of the bed. It’s not until she pulls herself into a seated position and settles her breathing that she realizes Bucky has turned away from her and curled up into the fetal position, breath laboured and frantic, muscles locked completely taut, arms curled over his head as if he’s defending himself from invisible blows.

“Bucky,” she whispers, reaching out slowly with one hand. She stops, still hovering above his shoulder, suddenly unsure.

I don’t want to hurt you, he’d said three months ago before they shared her bed for the first time. I don’t always sleep very well, and I don’t always know where I am when I wake up.

Startling him awake might not be a great idea, then, but she doesn’t know what to do. It hurts to watch him like this, softly whimpering and shuddering, curling impossibly tighter onto himself, punctuated by quiet pleading in a language she doesn’t understand.

“Bucky,” she says again, louder this time. Slowly, very slowly, she eases herself out of bed and takes a step away, all too aware that he’ll never forgive himself if he lashes out at her upon waking. “Bucky, you’re having a nightmare. Wake up.”

Still no response. His pleading gets a little louder, more desperate, and despite the fact that she doesn’t know what he’s saying, she thinks he switches languages.

“Bucky, please,” Sarah says, loud and clear. “Wake up. You’re in Delacroix. You’re safe. Nobody is going to hurt you.”

“Stop,” Bucky croaks, his hands fisting into his hair, “Stop, please.”

Sarah’s heart breaks at the hoarse sound of his voice. She’s heard him angry before, she’s heard him sad, she’s heard him in all sorts of different moods, but she’s never heard him beg, never heard him plead for mercy like this. It’s one thing to know, factually, that he experienced awful things before they met, but she’s never seen him like this before, terrified, and she wants nothing more than to find a way to comfort him, to pull him out of the hell he’s trapped in.

“Bucky,” Sarah says, loud enough that she’s sure the boys must be awake by now. “Wake. Up.”

For a long moment, she thinks it hasn’t worked. Then his muscles begin to lose their tension and he slumps down with a soft, hurt noise, his hands moving away from his head until he’s got his arms wrapped around his midsection, face buried in the pillow.

“Sarah,” he says, voice hoarse.

“I’m here,” she says, because she doesn’t know what else to say. “I’m here, Bucky, you’re safe.”

Carefully, she crawls back into bed, mindful to keep a few inches of space between them. If he wants her to reach out, he says nothing, so she keeps her hands to herself.

“I’m sorry,” Bucky whispers into the pillow.

“Don’t apologize,” she says. “Can I-”

“Just keep talking,” he says, “please. I… I know where I am, when I can hear you.”

So Sarah does. She talks about everything and nothing, stories from AJ and Cass’ childhoods, from her own, stories that are bright and cheerful. She tells him about growing up in Delacroix, about the family business’ slowly improving profit margin, about her plans for breakfast tomorrow. Sarah talks until the sun starts to rise, the first golden rays of sunlight streaming in through the window, until Bucky’s arms loosen their hold around his midsection and he unfolds his legs, until his breathing finally evens out again and he lets out a soft snore, peaceful and content.

“Goodnight, Bucky,” she murmurs, and then lets herself drift back off to sleep.
