#i still don't consider ging a good father

I saw your recent post about Killugon's departure, don't you think Gon was feeling kind of determined to get over Killua and move on or something, I'm so sad for thinking that😿
Hi! I'm sorry for not answering you sooner. Busy week (:().
In my post, I said Gon was feeling determined to finish his quest/journey, which is meeting Ging (properly this time). I think this user here did a good job on explaining a bit more about it too. I thought, considering Gon's personality, that he would be feeling determined towards reaching his goal (aka. going to his father). Furthermore, afterwards we see him climb the tree like a little monkey. In my opinion, his determination is only related to this topic.
I think the anime showed more of this emotion at the moment Gon and Killua part.
In the manga, I think we see more of Gon's sadness for leaving Killua, though I think Gon is also trying to put on a brave face at that moment.
(The secret is on his eyebrows lol)
But I don't think Gon wants to move on from Killua at all, so please don't worry about it. Gon loves Killua. If it would have been for him, I think they would have stayed together to be honest. I read this answer someone gave you about this, and I think it was very well-said. I agree with them too.
In relation to Killua, I said that Gon was feeling the following (and I still stand by it):
Sad: Because he's saying goodbye to his best friend.
Grateful: Because of everything Killua has done. (Both are grateful of each other to be honest).
Guilty: Because of how he treated Killua during CAA.
I also thought he may be happy because Killua was with Alluka, but that's just my assumption.
I didn't explain further because I wanted to be concise and focus on the possibility that Gon, just like Killua, left some things unsaid between them (nothing bad, and that's just my own conspiracy theory lol). I also wanted to comment about Gon's way of expressing his feelings in general. I'm sorry if what I wanted to say confused you.
Here is a post about Gon and Killua's departure that I think you may find interesting too. That user is one of my favorites when it comes to hxh meta and they have a lot of metas in relation to Gon and Killua that you may like.
I hope it helps! This scene may be a bit bittersweet and there seems to be unresolved tension between Gon and Killua, but that's because this is not the end of Hunter x Hunter.
I always think of what Togashi said on this interview:
Full interview
In my opinion, it's an open ending made on purpose. We can have that ending as one if we don't want to continue reading the story, but that doesn't mean it's official or that it's the end for Gon and Killua. Specially taking into account that he's working on Hunter x Hunter as we speak. We will even have new chapters on September. We should just wait until it's Gon and Killua's turn again to see what's going to happen with them.
Please have a good day or night, wherever you are.
#hxh#togashi#justxtalking#justxask#today i gave my last final and I'm exhausted af#so i hope i was coherent enough#thank you so much to everyone i mentioned

who you think is an worst father ging or sliva?
Heyo!
Oh Silva, without a doubt.
Ging refused to accept himself as a father to start with. He spent two years raising Gon before going back to Whale Island and have Mito argue that his lifestyle wouldn’t be good to raise Gon, which Ging conceeded and he left him with her. Ging accepted that his lifestyle was unhealthy to raise a child, and as far as he was concerned, he never asked Gon to find him. Gon believed Ging was dead until Kite showed up, and the only real message from Ging to Gon was the Greed Island invitation, which was very clear on Ging’s attention to set bondaries, and was still only accessible to him if Gon became a Hunter on his own.
Ging never asked for Gon to do any of the things he had done. Refusing to see him, distancing himself from him, were sort of shitty for your child, the fact he felt uncomfortable meeting Gon and went as far as to plan this “bring him to Kite” back up, were kinda shitty, but understandable as, first and foremost, Ging rejected his role as a father and insisted on keeping this distance.
It’s terrible for Gon’s development and abandon issues, and for the fact Kite encouraged him to meet Ging in such a way that was maybe not adequate, but as far as I’m concerned, Ging realized he would not be great at raising Gon and didn’t do much to encourage Gon to find him.
Meanwhile once Gon found him, Ging did try to connect with him, and while it doesn’t redeem him, he still was decent with Gon, actually acted when Gon talked about how he would have rather died, shared a lot with Gon, and by the time of the DC arc, he kept contact with Gon and replies to Gon’s phonecalls and concerns, while still doing his own thing. While it doesn’t make him a good dad, he at least acts like a correct human being.
Silva, however, is some other level of asshole.
Gon’s issues coming from Ging were rarely Ging’s direct impact. Killua’s issues coming from his father? Were directly from Silva.
Silva loves his kids, in his own way. To him, all the abuse he put his children through was normal. But he still tortured his kids, he still poisoned his kids, he still forced his kids to kill, he still argued for the kids to stay isolated. He took the decision to leave those life-lasting impact on his kids.
Illumi is the result of that abuse once brought to term and once achieved. Can’t say it’s a healthy way to raise a kid.
Meanwhile, Killua had a terrible and lonely childhood. Not to mention how Silva left him to Heaven Arena as a kid and forbid him to come back until he reached level 200, all while also refusing him the agency of the likes of, passing the hunter exam.
Same as Illumi say, it’s not the children’s decision to make, if it’s not helping for their jobs, they have to stay in line.
Also there is this story about the dog Killua raised in the novel, which I think is considered canon? But therefore, which brights light to the only “Good” Silva moment to make it terrible. Wait let me quote from this post
when killua was REALLY little he once rescued an injured puppy by the side of the road that had been abandoned by its mother. silva encouraged him to raise it as a pet. killua named the dog “wolf” and this dog was his pet for like a year. he was really really really happy with this dog. one day wolf goes missing and killuas looking everywhere for him. silva has him, and he tells killua that wolf has rabies and needs to be put down [it’s heavily implied that he’s lying and killua doesnt know any better because he’s a small child]. killua starts crying but silva keeps telling him that its what he has to do or wolf will keep suffering and die in pain. eventually killua kills the dog and silva congratulates him on being so brave and strongit’s also stated that the above story is part of the reason why killua believes that he’ll eventually ruin any good thing that happens to him
Anyway the parallelism I want to talk about is when then Silva asks Killua to “never betray his friends” before then smiling that he’ll come back “because he’s his son”. I suppose he expects Killua to kill them, just like he had to kill that dog once.
Regardless, Silva’s abuse had left a very long lasting impact on Killua, who has serious mental health issues coming from the way he was raised.
Also don’t forget Silva was aware of Illumi’s needle that was paralyzing Killua and was completely okay with that. If Illumi’s abuse is recognized by everyone it has to be acknowledged that Silva agrees and encourages that attitude from Illumi.
Also just so we’re clear, Kykio is just as much to blame and it can be blurry how much is Silva’s abuse and how much is Kykio’s and how much is both. However for now I think I mostly mentioned very Silva centric moments already.
Meanwhile, Killua isn’t the only kid suffering from the abuse. Milluki seems to be the one suffering the least of all of it, but we all know how Alluka was treated like a monster by her whole family except Killua, that Silva isolated her, agreed with Illumi’s experiments to test her powers, and seemed all okay with the possibility to control her if they could. Also they keep misgendering her, which is also abusive, as it refuses to acknowledge the personhood of your child. But they do also objectify her, so they’re trash on that matter. (again, except Killua - and maybe Kalluto since he’s the only one we don’t know the thoughts on Alluka of, except from the fact he’s jealous/envious of her).
And there could be arguement as if Kalluto joining the Troupe could be his own “Heaven Arena” training (like, don’t come back until you killed some of them), which is a theory, but let’s not give fuel to it here.
tl;dr: Ging realized he wouldn’t be a good father and he stepped out from being a father, allowing Gon a more healthy upbringing with Mito. Although his abandon had lasting impacts on Gon, he didn’t actively abuse Gon either. He took his distances, was honest, never let Gon hanging by promising him that “if you do that i’ll be your dad” (that’s what others people told Gon, and most of the Ging centric problems Gon have are linked to Kite), and was actually decent with him once they met.
Silva, however, acted like a dad for his kids and he abused all of them, isolated them, actively encouraged unhealthy stuff for them, tortured them, forced them into the lifestyle of the family - and worse even, all while still loving all of them, except for Alluka that he kept deshuminizing, misgendering, isolating, and not caring to do anything when Illumi was ready to kill her (because you can’t kill your family, ie, how Alluka isn’t considered as such).
ye nah. Ging isn’t a good dad, but it’s not like he claimed to be a dad to start with. Silva did. From that Point, every decision Silva did are much more questionable than Ging’s.
Silva is winning the asshole cup there.
Thanks for the question and take care nonny :D

Unbound(Illumi x reader) Chapter 3
Illumi finally snapped out of his daze, but he didn't get up, he was trying to figure out the event of his day. He could still feel the warmth of your kiss on his cold cheek. This was the first time anyone has ever showed him any affection. As far as he could remember, no one has ever even praised him despite his hard work and dedication towards his family. It felt foreign to him but nice.
What he was the most shocked about was his inability to control his body around you; it was like his body has its own will. While staring blankly at the sky he got up and walked over to the edge, there he saw you sailing in the same direction the blimp came from. Illumi was staring at the ship, when he sensed his father approaching him.
"Illumi." Silva Zoldyck called his son and gestured him to follow. He took one last glance at your ship before following his father. After walking for a while, they arrived at the same building where he met you. There he met a short guy who was dressed as a homeless person, but his nen felt strong.
"I'm Ging Freecss and I'll be asking you some questions. Follow me."He took Illumi to the nearby room to question him alone."Tell me everything. "He deadpans.
And so, Illumi told him everything, even about the parts he didn't told his father as he figured that there must be a reason for calling one of the most renowned hunter. Ging listened to everything he said, not detecting any lies."Who was the girl, again?" Instead of telling the name you told him to call you by, "She is the one they call Hela." Ging was not alerted as this was technically the truth.
Having been satisfied with the answers, he dismissed Illumi to think about the whole ordeal. Illumi reported to his father and asked for his leave. The reason for not telling your name to the hunter was that, he thought he was someone special for you to tell him your name. The name could be an alias used, but he had a feeling that it wasn't
Silva stayed on the island to investigate a little. He didn't know the full details of the situation as he was called on short notice by Illumi, informing him about the arrival of hunter association blimp, and he couldn't ask neither Illumi nor Ging due to confidentiality.
"Why'd she have to disappear like that? I don't even know who she is, how I am I gonna find her now!? "Ging mumbled annoyed under his breath, only recently finding that you were a girl as Illumi told him." This is why I don't little kids! ",he was getting more annoyed with every second passing, but he just can't abandon and go as the distress signal you sent peaked his interest, as he wanted to know more about the place you mentioned, 'beyond'.
(to the dipping sun away home reside the caged birds longing for sky but are captive by pirates of beyond they not do but pray ceeresf to the rescue.)
He looked around to find, what you called, the caged birds. After looking for a while, he sensed a very faint aura and a very rare type at that."Heh! Good thing I was already using en or it would have been a pain to find it otherwise."He was using his wide ranged en ever since he stepped on this island.
It didn't take him long to find the source of the aura, after further investigation it became clear to him that this was deliberately laid for him to find."Well at least, she thought things through." He followed the trail, still considering the possibility of it been a trap.
The aura disappeared around the corner, where some weird looking stairs were present. He examined the stairs closely, suddenly noticing uneven layer of paint on it. He chipped a little bits of paint under which he saw a familiar pattern. The pattern indicated that nen has been used on it. He took few steps back, assessing the situation thus far, brainstorming for a little while, he calculated the possibility of this being a trap, which could end his life to be 25%.
"I've been in far worse situation than this, so, let's just try it out, " putting his trust in his abilities, he reinforced his entire body with nen, and put his hand on the stairs streaming his nen into it. He was suddenly engulfed in bright light, hindering his vision. When he opened his eyes, he realized that he was now in a room.
'Did I teleported here? no, that light blinded my vision, and then the floor moved inside the stairs as it opened in a ridiculously fast speed for me to notice, and I wasn't blown away by the force due to my nen armor, if I wasn't I would have exploded by now.'
He deduced the working of that stairs as soon as he noticed that the floor under him was the same. He looked around; the stairs descending down caught his attention. He cautiously approached it, keeping an eye out for any kind of danger, suspecting nothing he, descended down. When he was descending he heard chatters of some children talking.
Ging smiled as he realized that he had found the caged birds. He approached the kids."Hey, I'm here to rescue you, sent by your beloved Hela." He barged into the room, declared his purpose for coming."But before that I'm going to ask you some questions."All the children have already taken there fighting stance.
"Who are you?" one of the kids asked.
"I'm Ging Freecss, archeological hunter." he informed not getting one bit intimidating by their blazing aura. These kids weren't ordinary kids, they were trained ever since they have set foot on this island, and that been five years ago. Their ages ranged from seven to ten years old. There were five children in total, two girls and three boys.
After hearing the older man's reply, they gave each other a nod. This time a girl spoke, "Then prove it to us, you old geezer." He stopped smiling after hearing her, "I'M ONLY 30 YEARS OLD! YOU BRATS BETTER WATCH YOUR MOUTH OR YOU'RE GONNA REGRET IT!" he yelled as his emotions got the better of him, nonetheless he took out his hunter license to show them, but they still weren't convinced.
"This isn't enough, you could be an impostor."The first boy spoke again. At this point Ging was fuming.
'Calm down Ging, they're children'
After calming himself down, he looked at the kids smugly and said, "Alright kids, you've got yourself a deal. I'm going to challenge each and every one of you in the activity of your own choice, if I win your going to answer my questions."
"And what are we gonna get if we win?" "Trust me kids it won't come to that, but if by heavens luck you did, I will do or give anything you want." Ging declared smirking.
----15 minutes later----
All of them were eradicated. They were lying on the floor staring into oblivion.
"That wasn't as exhausting as I thought."Now Ging was the kind of man who wouldn't get exhausted even if you ask him to the run the full length of the know continent, but will if you ask him to look after a child even for ten minutes.
All the kids complied and sat around Ging, he asked them sorts of questions such as, their name- which was replied with some bunch of numbers and a solemn face, he also asked about their knowledge about this island, but they didn't knew the answers to that types of question, as don't even remember the last time they saw the face of the sun, lastly he asked them about you. As soon as they heard your nickname, they all frozed, refusing to look into eachother's eyes, fearing they might spill the unknown.
But Ging still pressed, recognising their connection to you. However, the info he only could get out of the kids was your codename and how and when they met you.All the children were now in the state of sorrow and it was evident on their faces, you were like a big sister to them and Ging noticed it.
"Alright, enough questions for today now let's get out of this hole and get you all your prizes."
"Prizes? For what, mister?"One of the girl asked curiously.
"For answering my questions. Ofcourse."He flashed a grin at them.
"But that was the part of the deal?" another boy asked.
"Nah that deal was just to test you, considering you all would pick the things you are best at. "He answered as he got up to head for the door.
"And what will we get." they asked curiously.
"As I've already told you, anything you want!"
They all gasped and started to jump around in excitement and talk among themselves discussing about the things they'll get. Seeing them all enthusiastic he was reminded of his own son who would be around the same age as them. He smiled.
He was standing in front of what looked like the back of the stairs, with many monitors and buttons on it. He clicked a button which looked like it gives him some information, and it did.
It was message from you.
Thank you, Ging-san.
I'm eternally grateful to you for rescuing the kids, but I'm afraid they cannot provide you with any information about me and also you won't be able to find any in the organization's cpu as well as I have erased all the data from it to cover my tracks. The data that Zoldyck's assassin, Illumi copied also won't contain any info, as the experiment going on here were extremely confidential, only the selected few were given the accessibility that too was solely bionenmetric. I quess I can say that we are similar in that area.
I have one request for you, please give those kids a childhood and a future they deserve. They are good kids.
Along with the message, five files were attached which included the names of kids along with their origin.
Ging's eyes soften after reading your message, you reminded him of himself, no you were far better than him.He figured that he won't be able to find you unless you wanted him to, so he thought he'll up on that thought for now. He turned around to look at the kids who were laughing among themselves.
"Let's go."
______________
The whale island was barely visible to you ,even though it was only a kilometer away, you were falling in and out of consciousness as the fatigue of previous day was catching up to you. You were already starving before Illumi came in to unknowingly rescue you, as extending the day a human body can go without food and water was also a part of the experiment.
After few minutes, the ship finally hit the shore, jerking your whole body. You got off the ship through pure willpower and tried to get to a safe place to release your fatigue, but due to your worse than hell's luck, you stumble upon a sleeping bear in the middle of the forest, who had to have a new born bear with her. The black bear sensed your presence and immediately switched to her offence on instincts, thinking you could be a potential danger to her newborn.
Before you could retreat, your body gave out, fatigue finally winning the war, your eyes closed, as you eyelids also lost energy. Hearing one final thud sound, feeling of pain long gone either due to the fact that your body was already numb from fatigue or due to your past experience and vigorous training. As the darkness consumed you, you thanked the universe that you were at least dying as a free being, you thanked the universe for choosing Illumi to be the last person you talked to and you thanked the universe that at least you had your first kiss, even if it was on the cheeks, but at least you got to kiss a beautiful boy.
It didn't even take a minute as you heard the universe calling you.
"Hey, miss!"

I don't like ging but at least he was direct with gon on not wanted to see him and didn't denied he was an shitty dad compare to silva on doing terrible things to his children and think it was the right thing to do on prepare them be world-class assassins
I kinda agree. I have a really hard time and mixed feelings about Ging in general, but in comparaison to Silva, there’s no doubt Silva is worse.
No one can really be sure what kind of Dad Ging would have been - even now, he doesn’t consider Gon like his son, and Gon does’t feel like he is considered as such. So even his current behavior, that is to scold Gon and tell him to suck it up, is not exactly telling of if he would have been a good dad or not.
Abandon does a lot of horrible things to a kid. When it happens this early especially, it creates damages that are hard to overcome. Which is why also Mito lied and said Ging died, and it’s Kite who told him about Ging being alive and that Gon had to be worthy of finding Ging if he wanted to meet him.
I think Mito meant well by taking Gon away from Ging, and that Ging wouldn’t have been able to raise Gon properly. Ging, as far as we know, doesn’t know Mito told Gon he was dead, and so far he didn’t care. He did leave a track though, and I find the whole thing with him letting Gon access to Greed Island a little douchy, but even there it is true that Ging had always spelled out that he didn’t want to be here.
Which is still harmful for a kid. Which is still really bad. Ging isn’t a good father at all, not even now.
But compared to Silva? He’s far better than this. Silva abused his children, all of them, in one way or another. the fact it’s “normal” in their family doesn’t make it okay. the fact Killua especially, once in a healthy environement, talks about all of this with horror, saying it was painful, means it was not normal.
Silva wanted to have his children under controls, especially Killua. He agreed with Illumi to put Killua under mind controle, he locked Alluka up, Silva is not a good father.
And honestly when I see what kind of person Illumi is... While he became an abuser himself, all of this seems to me like the result of an even harder training and the fact he was far more isolated since, as the first born, he didn’t always have his siblings running around. Illumi accepted all this abuse as normal and necessary because that’s what he was taught, and that’s why he reproduces the cycles of abuse, especially on Killua.
Silva’s way of raising his children had been proven harmful and destructive for their own individualities.
Especially because Silva has expectations for them, and even if he gives them the illusion of a choice (or at least he does with Killua) he does so while still repeating that after all, Killua is his son so he’ll come back in the family’s ways.
It’s far more fucked up. It’s extremely fucked up.
Type of trauma and the reprecussion on children caused by family are harder to discuss than just saying one is better than the other, because the children will react with other ways, and it should be the responsability of the adults to not screw up their children.
But as far as bad father goes, Silva takes the cake.
Take care!
