I reread something recently :3
ID: Shen Qingqiu from scum villain's self-saving system saying "The masculine urge to mold myself into a blimp and fly Binghe to wherever his little heart desires <3" while in the back Shang Qinghua from the same novel says "this is not a masculine urge this is not any urge you are Clinically Insane" while looking extremely confused.

I love how people in mdzs are like ooooh ghost flute Chenqing aaaaah so scary but this flute. Has teeth marks from a child on it. Wei Wuxian aka Evil Yiling Laozu takes care of a child and lets him teethe on his Scary Demon Ghost Flute. And then in tgcf they’re like ooooh E’ming, Evil Deadly Scimitar, aaaah don’t touch it or even get near it!!! But then Xie Lian goes and pets it and it squeals with delight at the attention.
And then there’s Luo Binghe whose sword fucking possessed him lol

Thank you for putting my boys Rincewind and Shen Yuan together. Melted my brain. I am blessed
it was my genuine pleasure, i felt the same way when I saw someone's tag on my last piece of art suggesting it 🙏 opened my third eye... considering how genre-savvy / satirical / meta both series are it would honestly make such a fun crossover, I desperately want to know how The Librarian would feel about The System

Do you know if it was ever confirmed that Binghe was working with demons in Jinlian city era? We learn Zhuzhi-lang was responsible for the Sowers later and Binghe was only trying to be a righteous cultivator at Huan Hua during that time. I assumed that SQQ only thought he was building an empire in the demon realm because it happened in the original PIDW, and Binghe didn’t actually start that until after SQQ died. However, I see scenarios in fandom where Binghe is already established in the demon realm at the same time as the Jinlian city arc all the time. It’s a fun premise, and the fics are always good, but I was just wondering if it had a basis in canon or was just widely accepted fanon.
you know, that's a good question!! i'm really not sure?? I'd have to reread with a closer eye, but I think it's just widely accepted fanon on the basis of SQQ's assumptions based on what happened in PIDW! what we know for sure: three years pass between Binghe being thrown in the Abyss and him reuniting with SQQ in Jin Lan City (which is less time than in PIDW) and after the five years of SQQ's death, he has become established within the Demon Realm as a powerful demon lord (I think emperor by this point? can't remember). so that means either he was really busy after SQQ died, or he had some connections already due to his time in the Abyss!
it does raise a lot of questions about the timeline of events from Binghe's perspective! the pov being tied so tightly to SQQ means we miss out on a lot of what's going on with Binghe when he's not around. when did he fight and beat Mobei-Jun? when did Sha Hualing start working for him? when did he become established in his underground palace? he's so focused on SQQ that it's hard to imagine when he had the time to do a lot of this stuff. especially since in the five years of SQQ's death, he's making dinner every day and feeding the corpse spiritual energy. I have trouble imagining a man wracked with so much grief taking the time to kick Mobei-Jun's ass, but also he's the protagonist, he can do anything, so maybe I shouldn't be doubting his ability to multitask lol

Anon asking because I fear being perceived but ummmmm
I found a yt animatic that has a really similar artstyle to yours (it's from 3 years ago) and I was deviously curious if it was your video. It's a scum villain animatic for like a frozen 2 song I think? Get This Right im seein
(And yes I am extra curious because I just finished scum villain and it got me buzzing with excitement. The thought that one of my favorite artists Might Have Been Into It lmfao)
Ohh haha yeah that's mine! Ahh I still wanna redo that thing because it looks a bit wonky to me now and actually finish the entire song but I never had time nor motivation for that until now.
Glad to hear you had a good time reading scum villain! I had somewhat of a mxtx phase late 2019 that's when I read svsss too so it's been a while, I still enjoy seeing fanworks of it though :D and thanks for the kind words that's very sweet!

ORV is so good so far (I'm 25 chapters in). It's like SVSSS meets Homestuck meets Squid Game meets the Ascendance Trilogy, but without the bits that weren't for me from SVSSS and Homestuck and Squid Game. I haven't read any original novels in months, but this book... it's grabbed me so hard.

Fun fact: I read almost all of svsss from start to finish in a hospital high from anesthesia after surgery and I still wonder if some of it was a hallucination from all of the drugs they gave me.

I am not saying Shen Jiu didn’t abuse Luo Binghe, I am not excusing his actions in regards to Luo Binghe — I love Shen Jiu but he was abusive towards Luo Binghe. I do not condone abuse at all, but that’s what I like about him — not that he was abusive but that he has committed irredeemable actions, that he was flawed.
I think sometimes people see lovers of Shen Jiu analysing his actions and decide that all of us believe that the fundamental reason PIDW Luo Binghe ended up like — well — that — didn’t exist — or that if it did, it’s not his fault. No, he did abuse him. A lot of us are analysing why he may have done so — but that doesn’t mean we are excusing his actions. The actions we defend are the ones that scum villain itself seemingly (adding seemingly because I need to go reread it to double check smh) debunks, eg. Shen Jiu’s ‘sleazy’ nature.
I love Shen Jiu because he is flawed, I do not hate him as a character — I would if he were a person, but as a character I do not. I do not condone his actions, but I see it as unfair that Luo Binghe’s will be excused as a result of Shen Jiu’s abuse. Was Shen Jiu’s actions not a result of the abuse he faced under the Qiu household, namely under Qiu Jianluo? This does not mean the blame does not land on them, Shen Jiu is to blame for the abuse he perpetrated in the same way Luo Binghe is to blame.
PIDW shows the rawness of the cycle of abuse. It was Shen Jiu’s fault for perpetuating this cycle, and the same blame falls on Luo Binghe’s shoulders. They’re equally flawed, yet one is attacked whilst the other overlooked. Yes, Shen Jiu was the elder on in the situation, the one who held more power, but now Luo Binghe’s the older one in his own situations, he’s the one who holds the power. Likewise, he should be held responsible for his actions, in the same way Shen Jiu should. You can disagree with someone’s actions and pity them still.
People can like Voldemort, that doesn’t make them a bad person. People can like Darth Vader, that doesn’t make them a bad person. People can like Ursula, that doesn’t make them a bad person.
So why do some people see liking Shen Jiu as them admitting they are a bad person?
P.S Don’t take this too seriously think what you want I’m just stating my own thoughts teehee and apologies if I got anything wrong, I read SVSSS earlier this year <3
Also this being one of the few discourses in the SVSSS community is so funny to me — my guy this is the same book that has a father try to sit in on his nephew having a threesome with his son and his sons teacher like akhahashs I love this place. (This isn’t even a real issue, girlie just wants to complain because she saw it mentioned once — she’s a yapper I love talking about my man’s)

As an editor and a publisher, it is absolutely fascinating to me to watch fans of an older work like SVSSS react to the fact that it is being edited.
There are all kinds of reasons to edit an older work, and it is (or at least it should be) ultimately the writer's call what they want to change. An edit after sitting on a story for a decade is bound to bring different aspects to the fore, because the author is a different person rereading their work with an evolved perspective. I think seeing how the world tree has grown inside their evolving imagination is an exciting thing!
But at the same time, the fans have already built out that storyworld in their own imaginations and run its roots through their collective body of thought. That's a powerful thing, and the fear that some part of the world tree you have loved and nourished will be summarily pruned is a valid one for fans to have.
I'm also a fan, and I've been nourishing my own version of that storyworld for years, too. Just because the author gets to prune their version doesn't mean they're pruning mine. Although I CAN choose to reference the shape they highlight in their edits, I don't HAVE to. I just get to have a choice between two main points of reference, the edited version and the original work (plus all the fan versions and different translations I’ve encountered, because let’s not forget that translations are a kind of edit, too).
Not to dip too much into the obvious parallels here, but I just think, Airplane would edit PIDW pretty vehemently if he had the choice to do so after his years in the storyworld and all the changes to his emotional landscape.
And Shen Yuan, for all he pans the original work and lived out his self-insert fix-it fic gay little dreams… Shen Yuan would be just as scared by every little potential change Airplane might possibly make.
Shen Yuan feels possessive of Airplane's story. He pokes fun, but he still deep down loves that storyworld... and yet he wouldn't trust Airplane to do a good job taking care of it. Not even when Airplane is the one who planted and grew it in the first place!
But that's because Shen Yuan is an antifan. He loves the storyworld that he read so fervently, but his identity is as someone who doesn't believe the author can write well, and doesn't believe the story was good, so he doesn't see his own love. He couldn’t trust that Airplane would do a good job with edits because he can’t admit that Airplane actually did a good job the first time around.
I'm not an anti-fan.
I have enormous faith in MXTX's writing chops, and I'm sure that whatever edits she makes to SVSSS will be fascinating and lucid choices, even if it turns out that some of them aren't to my own personal taste, or if they prune away a detail I loved.
More to the point, though... I am really looking forward to our particular batshit obsessive fandom doing deep dives and meta-focused rereads once an edited version of SVSSS is available. We all had so much fun doing it the first time, and now you're telling me we get to go AGAIN?!
