I only have one xmas gift left to do cause I rage quit the last time and now it wonât open on my iPad

#it open on my phone but it saved only half of what I did#and I tried my laptop and it took an hour just for me to end up closing it because if it took an ajout just opening the site#what do you think will happen doing the actual edit đ#itâs 1am Iâm not doing that cksbjxbd#Iâll try again if it dosenât work I was able to save the non complet picture so if itâs not too ugly I will add to the picture lâ#like it was the same project#if not Iâll do it again :â)#itâs not hard to do just idk why I rage quit cause I would add a dĂŠtail do something else and realize et got smaller ?????#so I would make it bigger again and like a loop it happen 10 times#Iâm not joking and I have no idea why it does that it never did#i went to sleep at 5am the other day cause I was almost done but it kept doing that���.#i should I stop earlier but when I start something I finish I was suppose to be done long ago đ#giving least detail possible cause I donât want the friend to feel bad#donât !!!! my choice !!!! I can't get the thought of marking Hotch up with lipstick marks out of my head. Like imagine leaving a trail of kisses down from his neck to his dick. And if the lipstick is starting to fade, he'd reapply it for her so she could continue marking him
Hotch is typically more-than-professional during round table sessions, the grim atmosphere of the room setting the tone for his no-nonsense behavior. However, he can't stop himself from itching at a persistent stinging against his collarbone- probably something to do with the mark you'd sucked into his skin only hours earlier.
it's such an intense sensation that he slips a hand beneath his collar to itch it skin-on-skin, something probably unprofessional considering his environment, but one of those base human things that must be done even if it shouldn't be. A few wandering eyes note his movements, observant but neutral as a profiler should be.
It isn't until he withdraws his hand, fingers stained a crimson red, that anyone reacts.
JJ shifts in her seat, eyes blowing wide as Prentiss leans forwards, "Hotch, is that blood?"
Aaron's already grasped the edge of his manila folder with his lipstick-stained fingers, turning the yellow paper a sinful shade. He frowns, glancing down at his pristinely pressed suit, but there's nothing red against his chest.
"Your hand," Reid urges, his brows knitted in concern, but it's Derek- of course - who recognizes the red for what it really is.
"Hold on," He laughs incredulously, a great gust of air that comes out like a bark, "Hold on, hold on, hold on, that came off'a your chest?"
Caught red-handed, Hotch composes himself, which is a very stark difference to the way that his team dissolves into teasing giggles. Penelope has clapped a hand over her mouth, perhaps the only way she can hold herself back from opening it.
"Settle down." Hotch attempts, but Rossi undermines him with an exasperated groan. Once the oldest of the team proves unreachable Hotch knows he's lost the room, and sits in stony silence while he waits for his coworkers to finish getting their fill.
"My man." Morgan declares, clapping Hotch on the shoulder with a strong hand he's lucky not to lose, "She got you in the doorway this morning, didn't she?"
"We're talking about dead teenagers, here." Hotch reminds them, raising a brow as Emily, Penelope, and JJ collapse into girlish giggles, "Can we please focus on the case?"
"This is on you, Hotch." Rossi levels him with what's supposed to be an unimpressed glare, and what really comes off as a smirk, "It's not their fault you come to work with lipstick under your clothes."
"I have to ask Y/N for that shade," Penelope gushes, but at Hotch's warning glare she grabs her remote and retakes her place beside the viewing screen, "But-! But our trusty boss is right, there are lives on the line here. So- um, incriminating lipstick stains pushed to the back of the mind, we'll start up again on our case."
Hotch's shoulders relax as the team sinks back into careful contemplation of the case details. He thinks he's escaped scrutiny altogether thanks to the shocking violence of this particular unsub, but it's three days later when he hears about the lipstick stains again.
Surprisingly, it's Reid that comes to torture him, and the slick comment comes when Hotch is forced into sharing a motel room with him. Communal bathrooms are in the middle of the complex, but it's easier to change in their rooms. He unbuckles his belt facing the corner of the small room, giving Reid space to change himself, and giving both of them as much privacy as possible.
"Careful, Hotch," Reid calls, voice misleadingly kind-hearted which lures Aaron into a sense of security, "There's a gap in the curtains behind where you're standing. You wouldn't want any onlookers to see any more lipstick Y/N left behind."
Hotch decides that Reid is worse than Morgan. Morgan is expected to be crass, so it's not a shock when it's delivered. Reid, however, is one to watch out for.
"Reid," Hotch responds, hearing Spencer's breathy laughter already bubbling from his throat, "I'm sticking you on desk duty for a month when we get back."

Stay, stay, stay | Evan "Buck" Buckley
Summary: When Buck gets assigned to get up the ladder and put a fire out during a rain and thunderstorm, he gets struck by lightning. Heâs walking around in a coma dream and has to find his way out of it to get back to his fiancĂŠe (Y/n).

(Y/n) swung the towel over her shoulder as she turned around and made her way to the shelf to get some herbs.Â
Buck, on the other hand, placed his foot into the last step of the staircase as he scanned the environment. When he saw his fiancĂŠe cooking in the open kitchen, he smiled and made his way over.Â
âSo.. did I hear you right earlier or are you actually about to serve the team your so-called âexperimental pasta bake of doomâ for dinner?â he asked as his smile morphed into a playful grin on his face.Â
He leaned against the kitchen counter and crossed his arms as he waited for her to answer. (Y/n) chuckled and threw him a side-eye as she stood on her toes to reach the herbs she needed. When she caught the herbs she closed the cabinet and turned back around to the stove.Â
âFirst of all, itâs not the âpasta bake of doom.â It's just pasta with a little creative touch. Second, arenât you supposed to be cleaning the truck or something instead of bugging the chef?â she said as she shook the little container to add it to the pot.Â
Buck shrugged his shoulders as he moved to the kitchen island where the stove was, and (Y/n) was working on her dish. âI finished, so now Iâm on âsupervision duty.â He answered her question. âYou know, just making sure you donât set the firehouse on fire. Againâ he continued as he placed his right hand on the counter and tried to get her to look at him.
She grabbed the wooden spoon that was in the pot and started to stir. âThat was one time! And it wasnât even my fault- the oven malfunctioned.â She told him as she felt the eyes burning into her skin even more.Â
But before Buck could even come back with an answer, Chimney passed by with a smirk on his face. âPretty sure it was malfunctioning because someone put too much cheese on their lasagna.â He said as he kept on moving.Â
Buck his eyes grew wide at the reaction, he pointed his finger out at Chimney. âSee? Itâs not just me who remembers.â Buck said as he turned back towards (Y/n).Â
(Y/n) stopped stirring as she gave Chimney a look that said really? She glared at both of them. âYou two better shut up or Iâll accidentally forget to make enough for either of you.âÂ
In the distance a small laugh came from the dining table where Eddie was sitting, his phone was in his hand but his eyes were locked on the conversation between the two. âReally brave, Buck. You keep poking at the person in charge of our food today. Bold strategy.â Eddie chimed in.Â
(Y/n) let out a small sigh as Buck didnât drop the conversation, she tapped the remaining sauce off the spoon, back into the pot. Maybe she wasnât the best chef, and maybe she did almost burn this place down. But at least she was trying? That mustâve meant something, right?Â
Buck didnât even bother to react to Eddieâs comment as the grin on his face grew wider. âIâm just saying, if this pasta bake ends up being a total disaster, the entire firehouse is going to blame me for not stopping it.â
She tapped the spoon one last time on the brim of the pot as she pointed the wooden spoon at him. âYou should be blamed- for being annoying, not helpful.â she said as she let the spoon move in between them, almost letting it look like a threat.
A small grin appeared on her face as she locked eyes with Buck, he was just teasing her. They both went silent for a moment as they just looked at each other. Until a voice interrupted the moment. âWhatâs going on here?âÂ
Bobby walked in with a clipboard in his hands and one eyebrow raised at the sudden silence. âNothing, Buck was just on his way to leave the kitchen. Heâs officially banned from the kitchen, heâs already on his fifth snarky comment and dinner isnât even ready yet.â she said as she stood across Buck, switching looks between Bobby and her soon to be husband.Â
Buck glanced over his shoulder as he held up his hand in defense. âIâm just saying what weâre all thinking! Someoneâs got to make sure this meal doesnât turn into a second alarm.â he said as he looked at Bobby.Â
And then a familiar sound roared through the entire firehouse, but it wasn't the fire alarm Buck was talking about.Â
âEngine 118, truck 118, ambulance 118, structure fire, MacArthur Park Apartmentsâ The alarm sounded through the house.Â
âOkay, one eighteen letâs go!â Bobby said as all the people on the loft dropped what they were doing and stood up to make their way towards the rigs.Â
Everyone except for (Y/n).
She was actually on light duty because during her morning run a few days ago, she twisted her ankle.Â
She didnât even know how it happened. It just.. happened. She tried to walk it off, but when she returned home and Buck saw her stumbling while entering the house, he sighed. She always had been kind of clumsy.Â
Anyways, walking was still difficult, she could walk but every step hurted. And since it would only slow down the team more than actually help, Bobby had decided that it was best for her and the team to put her on light duty.Â
So here she was, trying to make dinner. While the alarm zoomed through the house. (Y/n) watched her friends and colleagues leave the loft, making their way towards the rigs as Buck took another second to look at his fiancĂŠe. Buck scanned the scene, he knew no one was waiting for the two of them to be close.. especially on shift.Â
But no one except the two of them were on the loft right now. âSee you in a bitâ Buck said as (Y/n) had already continued to stir the sauce, facing the stove. He pressed his warm lips quickly against her cheek. âBe carefulâ she told him as he was already making his way towards the stairs. âOh and donât do anything stupid!â she added, sounding a little louder now.Â
Buck turned around as he continued walking backwards, that same grin as before was written all over his face. âHave you met me?â he said, his grin turning into a small smile as he sent her a fast wink and turned back around speeding down the stairs.Â
She didnât know how long this call was going to take. It was a structure fire, it could take an hour, or it could take four hours, or even six. She decided to just try and finish the dish, so she could reheat it when her team came back from the call.Â

Buck watched the rain splatter against the windows of the rig as they were making their way towards the structure fire. It was silence on the rig, as everyone was trying to get into focus. The only thing sounding through their headphones was the thunder roaring over Los Angeles.Â
The truck pulled to a stop, not even a second later Buck and the rest of the team were stepping out of the rigs. Buck stepped out of the vehicle, feeling the puddle with water splash against his boots.Â
âOkay, Hendrix, Meyers, Perez!â Bobbyâs voice sounded over the scene, trying to be louder than the rain that was coming down like the gods were mad. The team followed Bobby as he started shouting orders to specific people. âStart evacuating the building!â he continued as he pointed to the building that was on fire with his hand.Â
âChimney, Buck, Eddie.â Bobby pointed at the right people, âYou guys are on ladder duty.â He added as the three of them nodded at his words. âI want you to get up to that window and hit it. Letâs go!â the captain continued as he pointed his index finger to the right window. âCopy that cap!â
Not even three minutes later, Eddie was already turning and extending the aerial to the assigned window. With a ladder belt secured around his waist, Buck made his way back to the top of the truck where Chimney was waiting to go up the ladder. The tip of the hose set was hanging over his shoulder as he watched Eddie extend the aerial.Â
âHey. Where do you think youâre going? I got this.â Chimney said as he saw Buck climbing on top of the truck with the ladder belt secured around his waist. âNo way, you got the last one.â Buck answered as a soft grunt fell from his mouth and made his way to the start of the ladder.Â
Chim squinted his eyes at the rain that was pouring and hitting his face. âDidnât realize you were keeping track,â he said. Making Buck grin âCome on, Chim, itâs me. Iâm always keeping track.â Buck said with enthusiasm in his voice.Â
These were the things he loved doing on the job.Â
Eddie grinned at the conversation, grabbing the hook and securing Buck to the line, so if something went wrong he wouldnât fall to his death.Â
âAlright, cowboy, go get âem.â Eddie said, as Buck accepted the line Chimney was holding out to him. âAlrightâ he said, as he carefully made his way up the aerial.Â
In his left hand he held the hose line and he used his right hand to climb up the ladder. The mix of peopleâs voices and sirens were filling his eardrums as he finally reached the top of the ladder.Â
With his heart beating in his chest, he turned the hose line on and started to aim for the window Bobby had mentioned earlier. Â
Where Buck could hear voices from below the ladder earlier, that sound faded away as some electrical buzz took over the scene. It almost sounded like an electricity pole was damaged, but it didnât come from below him. Whatever he was hearing was from above.Â
âThe hell is that?â he asked himself. Buck looked above him, fully facing the rain that was still pouring down. But he couldnât find a source, so he just continued doing his job. It didnât take five seconds, or there was a flash of white covering Buckâs entire vision.Â
The lightning hit his body. And he felt it, everywhere.Â
Bobbyâs eyes were locked onto the person who was on top of that ladder. But his heart dropped the second he saw what was happening right in front of his eyes. He could hear a loud scream and then Buckâs body tumbled over the edge of the ladder, his body now hanging on to the line that was secured to the ladder belt he was wearing.Â
Eddie fell onto the ground after the bolt had struck just near him. He grunted at the pain in his back when it had met the ground. He rolled to his side, as he got onto his knees and hands to reach for his helmet that had prevented him from hitting his head on the asphalt.Â
He pressed one hand onto the ground as he pushed himself off the ground and back onto two legs. He pressed his helmet back onto his head as was on his way to climb back onto the truck, not really knowing what had happened. But the moment he was climbing the ladder to get on top of the truck, towards the control panel of the aerial, he looked to his right.Â
His best friend was floating in the air, lifeless.Â
His eyes widened at the sight, âBuck!â he screamed out. Without thinking, Eddie hurried up the ladder. The steps were wet, making him almost slip now and then, but he didnât care. He needed to help his teammate, his colleague.Â
âMayday, mayday, mayday, this is Captain Nash, 118. We have a firefighter down at the MacArthur Park Apartment fire. Need additional task force and rescue immediately.â Bobbyâs voice sounded over the radio as Eddie called out for his best friend, hoping for some kind of reaction.Â
It was horrible, seeing him hanging like that.Â
In the meanwhile when Eddie had finally reached the top of the ladder, he tried to pull him up. But pulling up someone who was unconscious was impossible. âCan you hear me? Buck!â he called out, but calling out his name was more for a cry for help than to get him to wake up. The water from the hose line was still spraying down, Eddie didnât even bother to turn it off. He only had one goal, and that was trying to get Buck down to an ambulance.
If he couldnât pull Buck up, they had to lower him down. Chimney had taken place down the ladder, ready to help. âWe need more slack!â Eddie called out on the top of his lungs. âMore slack coming up!â Chimney yelled back. Eddie groaned as he gently let the rope slide through his fingers, and watched Buckâs body being lowered down to the ground where Bobby was. He was commanding Hen to get the ambulance as close as possible. They couldnât waste a second.Â
Buckâs body was almost down at the ground again. Bobby grabbed his feet and turned him so he could be laid down onto the gurney easily. âCome here kidâ Bobbyâs voice was filled with worry. He put his arm on his back, âI got him, I got him!â he said. He wasnât sure if he was telling the team, or if he was soothing himself with those words.Â
âOkay bring that gurney over here, letâs go!â Bobby commanded his paramedics.Â
âI need the lifepak!â Chimney shouted through Bobbyâs orders to hurry up. They needed to do something, he was up there for way too long. The entire team was helping Buck onto the gurney which was being flooded with water the second it came out of the ambulance.Â
âLetâs get the lifepak on!â Chimney continued as they disconnected Buck from the line he was still attached to. Hen gently took off Buckâs helmet, as they opened his turnout coat. and cut through his uniform to get to his chest. âNo pulse.â Hen said as she held her fingers to his neck to check his pulse.While, the worry in her voice almost turned into panic mode.Â
âGet that lifepak ready!â Chimney now shouted. But the second he got handed the lifepak, Hen spoke up. âIt doesnât make sense to shock him. Heâs in full cardiac arrest!â she said as she looked over at her partner, and towards Buckâs bare chest thinking of what to do.Â
âIâm starting compressions, get that lifepak off!â Henâs partner now said, as he climbed on top of the gurney, pressing his hands deep into Buckâs chest. âCome on Buck! Come on!â Chimneyâs voice said as he tried to get his brother-in-lawâs heart beating again. âCome on man! You canât leave (Y/n)!â he continued shouting, hoping those words would get him back to reality.Â
âAlright Chim! Chim, we've got to move!â Bobby ordered Chimney, but he was so determined to get him back, words around him werenât coming through. It wasnât until Hen gave him a small push, that he realized he needed to get off the gurney.Â
âDispatch, this is Captain 118. We have a firefighter down, struck by lightning, unresponsive, three minutes out.â

(Y/n) arrived through the emergency entrance of the hospital. Desperately looking for someone she knew, and could tell her what the hell had happened on that call. Her hair was soaking wet, she didnât even bother to grab a jacket when she ran outside towards her car. She didnât care if sheâd catch a cold. That was the least of her worries at the moment.Â
âWha..- What the hell happened?â (Y/n) gasped as she stumbled into the waiting room. Finding a small part of her crew. Oh god, the moment she stepped through those doors it almost made her puke. They had been through too much already. But walking through those doors made her heart pound in her chest, like she had run a marathon for miles.Â
She hadnât cried at all, but walking through those doors made it seem more real to her.Â
She saw Hen and Eddie turning around, Henâs eyes were still watering and Eddieâs were red like he hadnât slept in days. But it wasnât the exhaustion that made his eyes that red. The second she locked eyes with Hen, (Y/n)âs eyes were still wide open in shock. Tears were stinging in her eyes as the two of them walked towards her.Â
â(Y/n)...â Hen sighed, as she stood across from her with Eddie on her left side. âNoâŚâ she said as she looked at Hen. Trying to suppress the cry and the tears that were crawling up. Eddie pressed his hand to her upper arm, trying to comfort her. While she took a deep, shaky breath, trying to comfort herself too.Â
But the feeling in her chest started to feel tighter within the second. Her breaths were shallow and inconsistent as panic clawed its way through her. Her vision became blurry and she grabbed the fabric of her shirt, pressing the small piece of fabric between her hands to try and get herself back.Â
Her world began to spin faster and the sound of her heart was pounding like a drum in her ears. Tears were beginning to slowly stream down her face when Hen started to explain what had happened on scene. But none of the words she told her we're coming through. Everything she said was inaudible.Â
âHey, hey, (Y/n), look at me,â Henâs calm yet commanding voice cut through the haze, pulling her attention. Her eyes were locked onto Hen now, âBreathe with me, okay?â her voice said.Â
(Y/n) shook her head, as more tears streamed down her face. âI... I canât... I canât breathe.âÂ
âYes, you can. Iâm right here with you. We are right here with you.â Hen said softly, as she looked at Eddie and back at (Y/n), gently placing her hands on (Y/n)âs shoulders. âIn through your nose for four, out through your mouth for four. Letâs do it together. Ready?â
Hen took a breath in, holding up four fingers as she inhaled. (Y/n) struggled but copied her action, shaky and uneven. Henâs fingers slowly counted down from four to one, guiding her through it again.
âThatâs it. Youâre doing great. Just one breath at a time.â She coached her.Â
Slowly, (Y/n)âs breathing began to steady, the panic loosening its grip. Hen kept her focus on (Y/n) âThere you go. See? Youâve got this,â Hen said with a reassuring smile, squeezing (Y/n)âs shoulder.Â
Tears rolled down (Y/n)âs cheeks, but she nodded, a small sense of control returning. âThank you,â she whispered, her voice raw. âAlways,â Hen replied, as she guided her to take a seat in one of the hospital waiting room chairs. Eddie and Hen both took a seat beside her, trying to comfort her as they waited for some news.Â
âHeâs going to be okayâ Hen said, placing her hand onto her shoulder as she gave it a soft, gentle, squeeze.Â
⢠Buckâs coma dream
âPeople have been dropping off food all day.â Margaret said as she proudly looked around the apartment of Buck. Pointing at the flowers and the cards he had received over the days he had been in the hospital.Â
âAnd oh, your kids.. â Wait, did he hear that right? Was he a father? Did he have kids with (Y/n) in whatever this was? His eyes grew wide, filled with hope as she said those words. He cleared his throat, âI- Um..- Kids?â he stumbled.Â
Margaret smiled and nodded at his short question, âyes, your students.â she answered with a duh tone in her voice. Like he had to know what she was talking about. But when the word âkidsâ fell off his motherâs lips, all he could think about was: where was his fiancĂŠe?Â
His eyebrows furrowed at her latest words, students? What was she talking about? He was a firefighter, right? What students was she talking about? âWhat?â he asked his mother with a confused look all over his face. But when his mother wanted to answer his question, he threw another question at her.
âWait.. Whereâs (Y/n)?â he then asked. Looking around the apartment for any clues. What kind of future, dream, universe was he in? He had so many questions floating through his mind right now.Â
His mother was looking at him in confusion, âWhat are you talking about? Who is (Y/n)?â Margaret asked as she followed her sonâs eyes, desperately searching the cabinets and shelves that were in the apartment from a distance.Â
âMy girl, my fiancĂŠe? Where is she?â Buck asked. Why didnât anyone recognize her name? They knew about her, and how much he loved her. Why wasnât anyone telling him where she was. Were they playing some kind of weird mind game with him?Â
âHow hard did you hit your head when you made that fall?â Phillip chimed in then. A feeling of annoyance slowly entered his body. âWhat? I-â he stumbled, but before he could even think of a proper something to say, his dad turned to Daniel.Â
âAre you sure heâs okay?â Phillip asked his eldest, with a drink in his hand. Daniel sighed as he opened the fridge and grabbed a beer out of it as he read the label. âYeah, why do you keep doubting me?â Daniel answered as he closed the fridge then again. âItâs not like I'm a doctor or anything.â He continued, with his eyes still burned onto the label of the beer and he made his way towards the living room part of the apartment.Â
As Daniel and Phillip walk towards the couch, Buckâs eyes were locked onto the two of them. But then his attention was caught by something else. A sparkly, golden, 3D model of a ferris wheel was on one of the cabinets in his apartment.Â
Determined, he walked towards the cabinet, standing in front of the ferris wheel as he let his fingers trace over the model. âWhatâs this?â he asked his mother who was following his steps.Â
âNo Idea. It doesnât go with anything else I picked out.â Margaret answered his question.Â
Only the thought of a ferris wheel made his mind go back to one of the worst days of Buckâs life. His fingers traced over the golden ferris wheel parts, as his eyes were locked onto the piece of decoration.Â
The room around him seems to fade away. The sound of the television in the living room playing, and his family members communicating, it all dissolved into the deafening roar of rushing water.Â
He was back on the pier.Â
The sky was clear and blue, the sunâs reflection was shimmering off the oceanâs surface. Within the snap of a finger, the water retreated, a silent inhale before itâd drown Los Angeles.Â
Buck lifted Christopher over his shoulder as he grabbed (Y/n)âs hand who was still staring at what ever the fuck was happening with the ocean. â(Y/n)! Come on!â he yelled as he roughly pulled her with him towards land again.Â
He sees (Y/n). Terror in her eyes. Her hand slipping from Buckâs grip as the wave rips them apart.
â(Y/n)!â Buck gasps, his breath hitching. (Y/n) was fighting the water to keep her head up and above the water, but the waves were too strong. He can still feel the water closing in, pulling him under, tossing him through the wreckage. His lungs burn. His muscles scream. (Y/n)âs horrifying scream went through his marrow and bones again, like it did every time he thought back of that day.Â
The memories crash into him like the waves did that day.Â
âBut if you like it, I love it.â His mom touching his shoulder and upper arm yanks him back to the conversation he was having with his mom. His chest heaves as he blinks, the 3D model of a ferris wheel coming back into focus. The sound of water is gone. The scream of (Y/n) still sounding faded in the back of his head.Â
⢠Reality
(Y/n) walked those awful grey and white hospital hallways. She kept her head low, looking down at the ground as she didnât know what to do with herself. (Y/n) didnât know how to feel, there were so many emotions rushing through her body.
 She took another turn to the left, Chimney and Bobby came into her view. They were standing in front of one of the windows, looking into the room Buck was being placed in.Â
âHey.â she said, her tone worried. âWhat do we know?â she asked the two men in front of her who were slowly turning towards (Y/n) now.
âNot much, Heâs alive. In critical condition. They had to put him into a medically induced coma to allow his body to rest and recover. The next twenty four hours are going to be crucial.â Bobby said, surprisingly calm.Â
She didnât want to even glance through the window. If sheâd do that, things would be real. But it wasnât a dream. If this was a dream, this would be the definition of a nightmare. But all the times she had pinched herself, wasnât enough. She sighed as she finally found the courage to look through the window.Â
Slowly she let her eyes wander to the bed Buck was lying on. This would be one of the moments thatâd hunt her forever, the picture would be burned into her brain. She squeezed her eyes closed and bit her lower lip. It was real.Â
She took another shaky breath, opening her eyes once more. Scanning the environment. âHeâs on life support. Breathing with the help of a ventilator?â (Y/n) said, but it sounded more like a question.Â
âThe lightning strike was literally a shock to his system. Sent him into cardiac arrest.â Bobby explained the situation as (Y/n)âs eyes were only locked onto her fiancĂŠe who was hooked up to all those different machines.Â
But Bobbyâs explanation was interrupted by a soft sound of a ringtone. Bobby quickly fished his phone from his pocket as he read the caller-ID. âOh- Iâm sorry I have to take this..â he said, excusing himself as he walked away and pressed the phone to his ear.Â
Chim took place next to (Y/n) who was still looking through the window. Chimney didnât say anything as he joined her looking through the window. He gave her some time to just look in peace. There was already so much information coming towards her.Â
âItâs so weird.. an hour ago he was up and jumping through the station with his jokes. And now, heâs in there.. hooked up to whatever machines to stay alive.âÂ
Chimney swallowed, his jaw tightening. âYeah.â His voice was hoarse, raw with disbelief. âOne second heâs making fun of your cooking skills, the next heâsââ He gestured toward the room, as if that explained everything. As if it ever could.
Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating. (Y/n) bit her lip, her gaze tracing the pale face of the man lying in the hospital bed. He looked so still. So unlike Buck.
âHeâs gonna wake up,â Chimney said suddenly, more to himself than anything. âHe has to.â he added as he looked to his left, looking at (Y/n) who was trying to suppress her emotions.
(Y/n) didnât answer right away. Their throat burned, emotions threatening to spill over. Finally, they nodded, forcing a small, fragile smile.
âYeah,â she whispered. âHe has to.â
And yet, as they stood there, watching Buck fight the battle they couldnât help him with. All they could do was wait.
⢠Buckâs coma dream
After Buck had finally convinced coma dream Chimney that he actually knew him, he was hanging with him at the kitchen island. Chimney opened the fridge as he placed a bottle of beer right in front of him. âThe last thing I remember is: we were at this apartment fire. It was raining. I went up the ladder and⌠there was a giant flash.â Buck was going over his thoughts once again. He pushes himself up and he opens the bottle of beer.
âSounds like you were struck by lightning.â Chimney said, looking at Buck who was starting to pace through the room. âYeah but, I donât think Iâm dead. It feels like some kind of coma dream.â Buck answered. But just as he turned around and started his first steps of pacing around the apartment..
His eyes fell onto the dining table of Chimneyâs apartment. A miniature fire truck was lying on his side on the table. âWhat theâŚ-â he stumbled, as the memories flashed before his eyes.
Withinâ a blink of an eye he was lying on the ground. His hands pressed onto the asphalt beneath him as his left foot was in an odd angle.Â
His ears were ringing, his eyes were trying to adjust to what ever the hell just had happened. His vision was blurry, and changing from red to yellow-ish every second. Buckâs hand brushed over the asphalt as he tried to scan the scene he was in.Â
The glass windshield of the truck broke, and fell onto the ground. Sending an awful, horrible pain through his leg, making Buck grunt.Â
Everything hurt. His head. his legs. his back. Even breathing hurted.Â
Buck really didnât really get whatever was happening. There was this boy, holding some kind of deadman trigger. He kept on wandering around, screaming something. But Buckâs ears were still ringing, so the voices sounded dull to him.Â
Suddenly, Bobby was there. His hands in the air, slowly making his way towards the young boy as Buck himself kept fighting to keep his eyes open, and push himself up. Buck couldnât really register what was happening. He only knew his leg hurted, his head was pounding like it was going to explode any second now.Â
Then, Hen, Eddie and Chimney came rushing over towards him. âYouâre still with us Buck?â Chimney asked, but he didnât answer his question. Hen placed a medic bag next to him as they began to access him. âBuck, how are we doing?â she asked as she dug through the bag. âKind of numb.â he answered with a trembling voice. But was the only thing that basically could come out of his mouth.Â
While Hen, Eddie and Chimney were diagnosing him and tried to give him first aid, he was only searching for her. âBuck!â (Y/n)âs voice, high and strained, cuts through the chaos. His head jerked up, searching for her, and there she was..
Held back by Bobby, his strong grip kept her from entering the scene, away from Buck. Her eyes were wide and in panic mode.Â
âLet me help!â she cries, trying to push past Bobby who was in civilian clothes, but he shakes his head. âNo. Theyâve got this. You need to stay back.â His tone is firm, leaving no room for argument, but she didnât care.
âThatâs my boyfriend!â she snaps, fighting against his hold. âI canât justâjust stand here!â she cried.
He wanted to tell her itâs okay, that he got this, but the truth was, he didn't. The pain in his leg was unbearable, and he didnât know if he could keep it together much longer.
âHang in there Buckâ Henâs voice cuts through the noise. Buckâs breath is coming too fast. The edges of my vision blur. The pain is worse than anything he had ever felt, like his leg is being ground into dust.Â
He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to focus on anything but the pain. Every firefighter on scene was coming together, getting ready to tilt this truck off his leg. But then his eyes snapped open. And suddenly (Y/n) is there, right in front of him. Bobby had let her go. Or maybe she fought him off, he didnât know. All he knew was the fact that she was in front of him, holding his arms, ready to slide him from underneath if she could.Â
âIâm here,â she breathes, her voice shaking but determined. âY-Y/N,â he managed, his voice was raw. She shook her head quickly, brushing damp hair from his forehead âYeah, baby. Iâm right here. Just hold on, okay?â she said softly, as she looked to the people who were ready to lift the truck.Â
The metal groans as the team works to lift the truck. A rush of hope rushed through his veins, only to be crushed under another wave of agony as the pressure on his leg shifts. A scream leaving Buckâs lips before he could stop himself. His entire body was trembling. Â
âIâve got you, baby. Iâve got you.â she whispered softly, her thumb brushing over his arms as a attempt to soothe him.Â
He was looking at the miniature truck between his fingers. Chimney had been in a coma when that rebar went through his head years ago. Maybe he knew something about coma dreams. With those thoughts, he placed the miniature truck back onto the table and turned around.Â
âOkay so, when you were in your coma, what do you remember?â he asked, as he slowly walked back towards the kitchen island Chimney was leaning against. âNothingâ Chimney answered. This was so not helpful. âHow long have you been walking around in this coma?â Chimney asked now.Â
He shrugged his shoulders, âUh, I donât know. Time is weird. Maybe two days?â he guessed. âWait, you've been walking around in an alternative universe for two days and now youâre just now starting to ask questions?â Chimney asked as he pushed himself from leaning on the kitchen island and started walking towards Buck now.Â
âIt was kinda nice at first, until I asked my family about (Y/n)...â he told Chimney. But if his family didnât know (Y/n).. Maybe Chimney would, right? âWait, you know her right?â Buck asked before Chimney could react to his words.Â
Chimney took a moment to think, repeating her name multiple times as he looked to the ceiling. âNo, I donât think I do..â he said, pressing his lips into a thin line and shaking his head.Â
The panic was rising in his chest, but maybe he needed a wake up call. âYou know, always hanging around the firehouse, always laughing at my dumb jokes.â he tried to help him remember. But he shook his head again. âBuck, I swear, I have no idea who youâre talking about.â Chim said.Â
âYou have to know her! Sheâs your colleague, friend, sheâs my fiancĂŠe for god sake!â A mix of panic, stress and desperation filled his voice. âIâm sorry, but Iâve never heard that name before,â he said.Â
No. No, this wasnât right. (Y/n) was real. He could still hear their voice, still feel their touch. Why didnât anyone recognize that name?Â
Buckâs throat tightened. His chest heaved as he stared at his friend, searching his face for any sign that this was some twisted joke. But Chimney looked genuinely confused. His hands dug into his hair as the walls closed in. His lungs burned.
With his hands in his hair, he felt his heart pound in his chest, trying to break free. His ears started pounding as his airways closed off.Â
He pressed a flat hand on his chest, as he tried to take a breath. But his lungs werenât working. âWow, hey, hey, hey!â âAre you okay?â Chimney asked as he saw Buck was having trouble getting air.Â
Buck grabs his throat, as a sign that he couldnât. Blood was rushing towards his head, making it red as he gasped for air. Buckâs eyes became blurry as he tried to keep his balance by holding on to the kitchen island. But he fell down to his knees. âTry to calm down! Try to breathe!â Â
⢠Reality
It has been two days since the accident. And to be honest, (Y/n) hasnât left this room ever since. Only to use the restroom, get some food or drinks. But most of the time she didnât have to, because if there was someone who came to visit Buck, they brought something for (Y/n).Â
The door was closed, but (Y/n) was sitting across from Buck in some kind of âlazyâ hospital chair. She wouldnât do anything except looking at him, keeping an eye on the machines he was hooked up on, and just watching him breathe. The constant beeping of the machines would sometimes make her fall asleep, like right now.Â
âHeyâ Chimney said as he walked through the hallway, aiming for Maddie who was looking through the window. âShouldnât you be inside with your brother?â he continued. Maddie shook her head, Chimney stopped beside her and followed her eyes letting out a soft sigh.Â
(Y/n) was sleeping, her head leaning onto her hand that was placed onto the armrest of the chair. âHow long has she been in there?â Maddie asked Chimney, since he got more updates from his crew. âShe hasn't left.â Chimney answered her question. Tears were burning in Maddieâs eyes as she looked at the two in the room.Â
Maddie had given (Y/n) a new set of clothes on the day it happened. She had hoped (Y/n) wouldâve gone home every now and then, but the girl was determined. She had to be there when he woke up.Â
The constant beeps switched, they became more and more within the second. (Y/n)âs eyes shot open, like she felt something was wrong. Her eyes shot from Buckâs body right towards the machines. In shock she watched the machines. The words âLower limit warningâ lit up in one of the screens in yellow letters. Her eyes rushed from the machine back to his body.
He was breathing like he was hyperventilating. She was alert the moment she read those words. (Y/n) pushed herself onto her feet, as she yanked the door open. âHe canât breathe!â she yelled as she was now in the grey empty hallways of the ICU.Â
Tears burned in her eyes as she watched nurses suddenly dropping everything and running towards her. Everything around her became a blur as she felt two people standing next to her. Maddieâs hand was pressed onto her shoulder, trying to give (Y/n) some kind of comfort as Chimney tried to get the nurses into the room. âHey, hey, hey! We need someone in here!â Chimney called out and pushed the door more open.Â
The nurses were doing their job as (Y/n) stood in the door opening with Chimney and Maddie. Looking at whatever they were doing to help Buck. But (Y/n) couldnât look at this. If he didnât make it through, this wasnât how she wanted to remember him. She turned on her heels, placing her hands on her head as she quickly blinked the tears away.Â
⢠Buckâs coma dream
âWhatâs wrong with him?â Hen asked, pointing at Buck as she looked back at Chimney.Â
Chimney held up his hands as he looked stressed at Buck who was still struggling with taking a single breath. âI donât know, maybe heâs just having a panic attack.â Chimney guessed as he looked at his friend, hoping sheâd know how to help him.Â
Henâs eyebrows furrowed as she looked at the guy in front of her. Was he for real? âHey buddy, can you hear me?â she asked. Only receiving a nod from the complete stranger. âBuck canât breathe.â Chimney concluded, as he watched him.Â
But then, it was like the invisible hands that were tightening his airways close, let go all of the sudden. The choking had stopped, he could take a breath without any pain or difficulty. Buck let go of his chest and straightened his back, with a surprised look crossed over his face.Â
Chimney and Hen looked at him in confusion. âOr maybe heâs pulling our legs. Heâs fine.â Hen said as she switched looks between the two guys. âSorry, I- I donât know what happened. It was like all of the sudden my lungs just stopped working.â Buck apologized. Â
"And now?â Hen asked as a second check. Buck stretched his arms, shaking his head as he felt nothing weird. âUh, yeah, no.. I feel better.â he admitted.Â
That still confused frown was on Henâs face visible as she faced Chimney. âAnd how did this happen?â she asked him. âHe was asking about (Y/n), thatâs what brought this all on.â he explained, as they both looked at Buck now.Â
It didnât make sense to him. Why could no one in this silly coma dream tell him where (Y/n) was? This was his subconsciousness. He was in charge. Right? âHow can it be that no one in this entire universe canât tell me where my fiancĂŠe is?â Buck asked as he looked at both Chimney and Hen.Â
Chimney just made the same face as he did a minute ago. There was no change in that. âWait, wait, wait, that name does sound familiar to me.â Hen then said as she was thinking.Â
There was a minute of silence, as a little spark of hope jumped in his chest. He gave her the space to think for a second. But after a moment, the back of Henâs hand slapped against Chimneyâs chest, hard.Â
âIsnât she that nurse from First Presbyterian?â Hen asked Chimney. Both eyes were burned on Chimney now as he was thinking. âYou know? The one whoâs in charge of the ER?â Hen tried to help him remember. Chimneyâs eyes grew wide. âYouâre right.â

He barged through the doors of the hospital and immediately made his way towards the ER. He knew this hospital like the back of his hand.Â
âExcuse me? What are you doing?â A female voice asked him, as he pushed through the other set of swinging doors that made him enter the emergency room.Â
He entered the ER, his eyes desperately searching for his girl. The lady at the desk probably was too lazy or busy to follow him and make him leave the ER. Buck only had eyes for one person only. And thatâs when he saw her.Â
She was smiling at one of her co-workers, that smile that made the rest of the world smile too. That smile that had him wrapped around her finger. She turned around and walked through the ER, leaving his line of sight. She was focused, busy, doing her job like nothing was wrong.
He called her name from a large distance as he watched her back walking away from him further and further. He called her name a second time as he made some speed to follow her. He called her name out even louder the third time. But she didnât react, didnât even glance his way.
Like she couldnât hear him.
Frowning, he stepped closer, following her down the hallway. His pulse quickened. She wasnât running, but she was moving fast, weaving between nurses and doctors, her attention elsewhere. But he knew a shortcut.Â
Still, after a few moments, she started to look over her shoulder, like she could feel him following behind her. Like some part of her knew she was being followed.
She glanced back for a third time, and thatâs when Buck made his move. Before she could take another step, he grabbed her upper arm, pulling her sharply into the nearest medicine supply closet.
A squeak left her lips as the door shut behind them. âWhat the hell-?â she gasped. The lights flickered on, and he saw her. She was here. It wasnât some kind of dĂśppelganger. It was (Y/n).
He exhaled sharply, his grip loosening around her upper arm. But he looked at her for a second, and pulled her into a crushing hug. His arms locked around her like she might disappear if he let go.Â
(Y/n) froze in his embrace. ââŚBuck?â she said in a confused tone. But Buck shut his eyes, holding onto her tighter. âYouâre okay, youâre here.â he whispered.Â
She hesitated before answering, her voice careful. âOf course, Iâm here.â Buck loosened his arms around her body as he looked her in her eyes again. âWhat are you doing here? Why are you a nurse?â he asked, his voice filled with confusion
(Y/N) met his gaze, something unreadable in her expression. Then, with the faintest smirk, she said, âYou tell me. This is your dream. Iâm just living in it.â she explained to him.Â
His stomach dropped. âSo⌠Iâm dead,â he murmured as he let his eyes wander to the ground, his head ready to drown in his own thoughts. (Y/N) tilted her head slightly. âClose, but not quite.âÂ
His breath caught in his throat. âThen where am I? What is this?â He looked around the supply closet like the walls could give him an answer. âIs this⌠some kind of waiting room? Heaven? Hell?â
(Y/N) sighed, folding her arms as she looked at the panicked face of the guy in front of her. âYou need to relax.â she told him. âRelax?â He let out a short, humorless laugh. âIâve been stuck here for days, I keep getting flashbacks to traumatizing moments of my life, apparently Iâm almost dead. Forgive me if Iâm having a hard time relaxing.â He started pacing down the small part of the supplies closet.Â
(Y/n) gave him a knowing look before turning away. âCome here.â she said as she walked over to one of the cabinets, opening both doors. Buck watched as she pushed aside bottles of medicine and supplies, revealing something that shouldnât have been there.
There was a window.
His heart pounded as he stepped forward, through the glass he could see himself. He was lying in a hospital bed, intubated. Unmoving. Machines hooked up to him, beeping softly.
Bobby was there, his hand holding on tight to the rosary beads like it was his only lifeline. Also (Y/n) was there. The real her. Sitting at his bedside, her hands clasped together like she had been praying.Â
The air in Buckâs lungs vanished at the image in front of him.Â
In shock he watched the three people in the room. âWhat the hell is this?â Buck asked the (Y/n) who was standing beside him. He glanced to his right, waiting for her to answer. She met his eyes, blinking away the tears that were stinging in her eyes. âWell, Evan Buckley, that right there is reality, whatever is happening on this side is your deep dark subconscious.â she explained.Â
The way she said his name made his heart skip a beat. She never called him Evan, only when she wanted to mess with him, but she surely never used his full name.Â
Buckâs eyes wandered back to watch the scene in front of him. âDo you know whatâs happening to me in there?â he asked. (Y/n) shrugged her shoulders, âWell, it depends on how you look at it. You could be dying or fighting for your life. But itâs kinda up to you.â she answered. Although that didnât really answer his question.Â
At that moment, Bobby stood up from his seat. He walked towards (Y/n) and gave her a hug, as Buckâs parents and sister entered the room, following a doctor.Â
âW-what is happening?â Buck asks as panic was rising in his chest and voice. But (Y/n) didnât answer as she just watched the scene in front of her. âWhat is happening!?â he asked again.Â
But as he looked to his right, (Y/n) was gone. And a dĂśppelganger of himself in a doctor's jacket was standing right next to him. He looked him up and down in shock. âLooks like theyâre pulling the plug, Evan.â he said. Before he could even answer for himself, the doctor âhimâ cut him off. âThey donât care about you. Youâre not good enough, you never have been.â he said.Â
Buck looked at his dĂśppelganger in shock, as he tried to figure things out. âThis is all happening inside my head, which means I've been talking to myself the whole time.â He clarified to himself. âI donât have to feel bad about not listening to you anymore.â He added as he shoved all the aside bottles of medicine and supplies off the shelves in front of the window.Â
The dĂśppelganger watched him with a smirk on his face. âWhat are you doing?â he said, cocky. âI have to get back! Iâm running out of time!â The panic was written all over his face as he yanked all bottles and other supplies off the shelves, and moved the shelves from the window. âItâs impossible, thereâs no way back there. Youâre stuck with me.â The dĂśppelganger claimed.Â
âItâs not impossible! Thereâs not a locked room anywhere that, with the right tools and enough time, you canât break into. I know that.â Buck told his subconsciousness. But he could hear a chuckle coming from the other him.Â
He walked determined to the side of the room as he took a fire axe out of the red box. âThereâs nothing for you in that room. No one in there needs you.â DĂśppelganger Buck said then, with that same stupid grin on his face. But instead of looking him in the eye, he watched the scene, thereâs enough hurt in that room. (Y/n) hasnât stopped crying since he laid eyes on the window, Bobby was praying with his rosary beads, and if he did that, it mustâve been bad. He wasnât the only one hurting.Â
âKeep telling that to yourself.â he said, and yanked the fire axe through the window.Â

The first thing Buck felt was warmth. A gentle pressure against his hand. Steady. Familiar. Then, muffled voices entered his ears. The rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor. The scent of antiseptic and something softer⌠vanilla? No⌠coconut.
It was (Y/n).
His eyelids felt heavy, but he forced them open. The hospital lights were too bright, but they werenât what held his focus. It was her.
Curled up in the chair beside his bed, her head resting against their joined hands, fingers wrapped around his like she had been holding on for dear life. His throat felt like sandpaper, his voice hoarse. â(Y/n)âŚâ he managed to get out.Â
She stirred instantly, her fingers twitching against his. Her eyes fluttered open, sleepy and dazed until her eyes landed on his. She froze. Her breath hitched.
âBuck?â Her voice cracked as she shot up, eyes wide with disbelief. A slow, tired smile tugged at Buckâs lips. âHey.â
A strangled noise left her throat half a sob, half a laugh before she lunged forward, throwing herself into his arms. Her arms were wrapped around his neck, her body molding against his like she belonged there. He could feel her shaking, feel the way her breath hitched against his shoulder.
âEasy,â he croaked, though he had no complaints about being tackled with this much affection. (Y/n) pulled back to look at him, placing both her hands onto his cheeks, cupping his face. âYouâre awake.â she whispered, tears spilling freely now.
Buck blinked up at her, brushing his thumb weakly against her hand. âTold you Iâd see you in a bit.â
She let out a breathless, watery laugh, pressing her forehead to his. âYou idiot,â she muttered. âYou scared the shit out of me.â she said. His heart ached at the exhaustion on her face, the dark circles under her eyes, the tension still in her shoulders.
âHow long have you been here?â he asked. She swallowed hard, running her fingers through his hair like she couldnât believe he was real. âSince the moment you got here,â she admitted softly. âI never left. Except to use the restroom.â She cried. âAnd even then, I made Bobby stand guard.â
Buckâs chest ached, not from the coma, not from the accident but from the fact that she had stayed. She had never given up on him.
âFiancĂŠe of the year,â he said, squeezing her hand weakly. (Y/N) let out a choked laugh, shaking her head as she placed a free hand onto his cheek again, rubbing her thumb against his skin. âYeah, well, I kinda love you, so.âÂ
His eyebrows shot up and his lips twitched. âKinda?â She exhaled, pressing a kiss to his forehead. âShut upâ
Her fingers brushed against his forehead gently, her thumb smoothing over his cheek. Her expression softened. âYou shouldnât be talking this much,â she told him. âYou just woke up.â she continued.Â
âI have a lot to say.â He then said. âAnd you can say it later,â she said firmly, already reaching for the call button. âI need to get a nurse-â she groaned.Â
His hand shot up, slower than usual, and weaker than he liked but enough to stop her. Her breath caught as he intertwined their fingers again, holding her there. âStay,â he whispered.
(Y/n) hesitated, her worry flickering between her brows. But one look at him and she melted. She squeezed his hand and leaned in, her lips brushing against his temple. âIâm not going anywhere.â
Buck sighed in relief, his eyes fluttering shut as exhaustion started creeping in. âGood,â he murmured sleepily. âWanna marry you first.â he admitted. (Y/n) let out a breathless laugh, brushing her fingers through his hair again. âWe will⌠when youâre out of the hospital.â she whispered. Buck sent her a small smile and as Buck drifted off again he knew, without a doubt, that he had made it back exactly where he belonged.

Itâs just like any other day. Youâve just finished your mission and returned home, standing in your kitchen, grabbing the leftover dinner Zayne made earlier. With food in hand, you hum to yourself as you walk toward the dining table, only to hear Zayne call your name. Then he appears at the door, holding a test tube.
âWhat is this?â he asks, his face as stoic as ever, but you can see a hint of concern. âDoesnât look like something you should be bringing home, does it?â
"Ah." A closer look confirms itâyou definitely shouldnât have brought it home. âWhere did you find it?â you ask, stretching your hand toward the tube.
Zayne doesnât hand it over immediately. âIn your jacket.â He tilts his head, waiting for an explanation.
âItâs nothing dangerous.â
At that, Zayne lifts an eyebrow.
âI mean, yeah, that shouldnât have been in my pocket, but I have no idea how it got there.â
âWell, you do have a habit of pocketing anything in your hand.â You can hear the teasing tone in his voice.
You roll your eyes. âI do not!â But his teasing smile makes you pause. âWell⌠okay, sometimes. But not all the time! Either way, I should get that back to the lab. Itâs supposed to help Hunter fight Wanderers, but itâs not quite a success yet.â
Zayne hums, waiting expectantly.
âI heard itâs nothing bad, though. The effect is reversible. The last guy who breathed in the fumes was fine after 24 hours.â
Zayneâs brow furrows. â24 hours? Thatâs a long effect. What exactly does it do?â
You shrug. âI didnât hear that part.â You reach out again. âItâs better than most things their research usuallyââ
Zayne hesitates, his fingers tightening around the test tube before he finally exhales and hands it back to you.
âAlright. Iâll just put it in my pack and secure it properly.â
You take a step forward, but somehow, your foot catches, andâ
Crash. The glass shatters against the floor.
Zayne reacts instantly, grabbing your arm and steadying you, his grip firm. But the damage is done. A faint wisp of blue smoke curls upward, and before you can even think to hold your breath, you inhale.
A sharp tickle burns through your nose. Your eyes water. Thenâ
Sneeze.
Zayne cups your face, his hands warm and steady. âAre you okay?â
You blink against the stinging sensation and rub your nose. âUgh. All good,â you mutter between sneezes.
Zayne watches closely, scanning for any changes. When you sneeze, his hand steadies you before you even register the movement.
âWeâre going to the lab, or the hospital.â His voice is firm, but his touch remains gentle, he slowly leads you forward.
âAh, no, no, Iâm fine.â You stop sneezing now and really do feel⌠normal. âLike I said, it should be fine. Even if something happens, itâll go away. We donât need to go.â
Zayneâs brow furrows further. âItâs better to be safe than sorry.â
But of course, you just shake your head. âNo, really, Iâll tell you if I feel anything, alright? Besides, I want to eat.â You give him your best puppy-dog eyes, pleading.
Zayne scans your face, then your whole body, searching for any sign of distress. After a long moment of silence, he finally sighs, resting a hand on your shoulder.
âAlright. Tell me if anythingâand I mean anythingâfeels different, okay? Eat your meal. Iâll clean up.â He presses a soft kiss to your forehead before turning to grab cleaning supplies.
With that settled, you return to the kitchen and start eating. After finishing, you wash your plate in the sink. Youâre just about to look for Zayne when you feel an itch in your ears. You scratch them absentmindedly as you walk toward the living room. The more you touch them, the thicker and softer they feel beneath your fingers.
Zayne sits at his laptop, fingers tapping against the keys in steady rhythm. The soft glow of the screen casts shadows over his face. When he hears your footsteps, he barely glances up at first.
âDo you still feelââ
Then he really sees you.
His fingers freeze mid-keystroke, his grip tightening around the edge of his laptop before he slowly leans back, his gaze locked on you. His mouth parts slightly, but no words come out, as if his brain is still catching up with what heâs seeing..
âWhat?â You frown, rubbing your ears again. They still feel itchy, weird. âSomething on my face?â
Zayne doesnât answer immediately. He just stares.
Thatâs never a good sign.
You grab his phone from the coffee table, flipping it to the front camera as you sit next to him. The moment your reflection comes into view, you freeze.
âOh shitââ You grimace. Slowly, you reach up, touching your ear, half-expecting them to disappear under your fingers. Your face hasnât changed much, but your ears⌠theyâre clearly different. Theyâve turned into cat earsâwhite cat earsâstarkly contrasting with your dark hair. You look at Zayne. He looks at you, he exhales slowly, measured. ââŚWeâre going to the lab.â
Zayne starts to stand, but you grab his arm and pull him back down.
âNo, wait! Itâs fine. Itâll change back tomorrow!â
His frown deepens.
âDarling, listen.â His voice is soft as he gently touches your ears, making you shiver. âThis is clearly not fine. Weâre going back to the lab.â
âNo, Zayne, really! Iâll just contact them, and you can ask them too, okay?â You really donât want to get nagged about this. Handling it over the phone is a compromise. By tomorrow, when the effect wears off, hopefully the nagging will too.
You watch his expression shiftâhis jaw tightening, fingers tapping against his thigh as he debates whether to just carry you to the car anyway. But after a while, he exhales through his nose and sighs.
âAlright. Call away.â
So you call your colleague, report what happened, and let Zayne ask a million questions to make sure youâre really fine. After an hour, the matter is settled.
âSee? All good, right?â
Zayne exhales softly, shaking his head. His face stays neutral, but you catch the subtle ease in his eyesâthe quiet relief he wonât admit.
âAll good, huh? Just donât leave my sight, alright? We still donât know for certain.â He kisses your lipsâa quick, chaste kissâbefore going back to his laptop, glancing at you briefly before returning to his work.
So, you grab the remote and turn on the TV. Truthfully, for the past hour, youâve been feeling the same itchânot in your ears this time, but lower. And you have a pretty good idea of whatâs happening.
And then you feel it. You flinch as an unfamiliar sensation prickles at the base of your spine. Your fingers twitch, reaching backâonly to freeze the moment you feel it. Soft. Fluffy. Moving.
Your breath catches, and you shift in your seat, testing the strange new weight behind you. Zayne immediately notices, his eyes flicking to you before trailing downward. His gaze lingers for a moment, then slowly lifts back to your face.
âWell⌠they did say the tail would show up, right?â you say, voice uncertain as your fingers hesitantly brush over the unfamiliar appendage.
Zayne lets out a slow breath, his brow furrowing slightly. Without a word, he reaches out, resting one hand on your shoulder and the other over yours, stilling your movements. âAnything else feel weird? Any pain?â His grip is steady, grounding, his gaze locked onto yours as he searches for any sign of discomfort.
You shake your head.
After another moment of scrutiny, he gets up. When he returns, he has a blanket. Zayne wraps the blanket around you, his movements careful, deliberate. His fingers brush against your ears, barely lingering before he pulls away.
âAnything uncomfortable?â His voice is softer now, but the concern is still there.
You shake your head again.
He kisses the top of your head and heads to the kitchen. A few minutes later, heâs back with a cup of chamomile tea, setting it gently on the table in front of you before returning to his laptop.
You curl up with the tea, taking a sip. It tastes stronger than usual⌠or maybe your senses are sharper now. You refocus on the TV.
For a while, the sound of the TV and Zayneâs typing fills the room. You scratch your ears gently. It feels nice. Really nice. You remember how good it felt when Zayne did it earlier. You glance at him, still working, but⌠shouldnât he be paying more attention to you?
Yes. Yes, he definitely should.
Feeling restless, you inch closer, nuzzling against his side, seeking his comfort.
Zayne glances at you, ruffling your hair, kissing the top of your head. But just as you start to enjoy his touch, he returns to his laptop.
Pouting, you move closer, pressing against his side, but when he doesn't react, you move with more intentâclimbing into his lap, settling against him.
Zayne exhales lightly, amusement flickering in his eyes as his hands automatically move to steady you.
"And what exactly is this?"
Instead of answering, you nuzzle into his neck, arms draping around him. He hums, rubbing small circles into your back.
But then his hands return to his keyboard, and you frown.
Not acceptable.
So you shift, straddling him, tilting his chin up before kissing himâfirst softly, then trailing down his face, his neck.
âDarling,â His voice is teasing, âIâll finish this in a bit, then Iâll play with you, alright?â
You shake your head at this, stopping your licking and clinging onto him. You take one of his hands and guide it to your tail. You hear his chuckle, and then he strokes it slowly, heeding your request. The moment his fingers brush your tail, a sharp jolt sparks through youâalmost like static electricity. It feels really nice, like an itch finally being scratched.
âHmm, this does feel like a real cat tailââ
You cut off his words with a sudden purr. The sound vibrates in your throat before you even realize it, and your eyes widen. Wait⌠did I just�
His fingers twitch against your tail before going completely still. You feel the way Zayne stiffens when your purring startsâa sharp inhale, his fingers flexing against your hips before gripping tighter. His throat bobs, and for a moment, he doesnât move, as if he's trying to gather himself.
A slow, teasing sway of your hips earns you a low, involuntary groan, his breath hot against your ear. He doesn't move, but the tension in his body is unmistakable but other than that he still doesnât move.
âZayne?â You pull your face from his neck, trying to look at him when suddenly, youâre pushed down onto the couch. Zayne is on top of you, caging you in on both sides.
âThis is dangerous, donât you think?â His voice is much, much lower now, sending a shiver through you.
Now that you can finally see his face, his hazel eyes are more intense, filled with desire that heâs still trying to restrain. The tips of his ears are red. You simply tilt your head at his question, nuzzling against his hand, holding onto it.
You hear him sigh. He touches your cheek, and you automatically lean into him, seeking his touch. So, he tilts your face up, forcing you to look at him.
âAre you aware of what youâre doing?â
âOf course I do?â What a strange question, you think. Youâre definitely aware of what youâre doingâitâs not like youâre drunk. So, you keep nuzzling against his touch, holding his gaze.
His gaze flickers, like heâs calculating his choices again. Then, he kisses your forehead gently. Studying your face once more, he asks,
âWhat do you want, darling?â
His tone is so soft, the same as his expression, making your stomach flip-flop. You take his right hand and place it on your ears.
âTouch me, please,â you say softly, already closing your eyes as his hand makes contact.
And so, he does.
He strokes your ears gently, and you feel blissfulâso nice, so relaxing. It feels really good. You find yourself leaning into his touch. He kisses the area just below your right ear, his lips warm against your skin. His hand continues stroking your left ear as he trails slow kisses upward.
You gasp when his lips reach your ear. He licks it, nibbling slightly, and the sensation makes you purr againâsomething you canât seem to stop. You squirm beneath him, heat pooling in your stomach.
He chuckles softly against your skin, his warm breath sending more shivers down your spine. His fingers continue caressing your ear, slow and deliberate, as if testing just how much you can take.
âYouâre really something else,â he murmurs, his tone laced with amusement and something deeper, something that makes your stomach tighten.
His fingers trail down, brushing along your jaw before tilting your chin upâslow, deliberate, like heâs savoring the moment.
His hazel eyes bore into yours, dark and unreadable, as if weighing his next move. You hold his gaze, your breath unsteady, ears twitching under his touch.
The corner of his mouth twitches, like he knows exactly what he's doing to you.
âZayneâŚâ his name leaves your lips in a soft whisper, and that seems to be the last straw.
His breath ghosts over your skin before his lips press against your neckâslow and deliberate.
The contrast is dizzyingâthe heat of his mouth, the teasing stroke of his fingers against your ear. You shiver beneath him, your breath hitching as his lips travel lower, marking a slow, possessive path.
Then his fingers trace along your tail, and a warm pulse spreads through your spine, making your toes curl involuntarily. Your breath hitches, the sensation sparking deep in your core.
He notices.
Zayne's grip tightens, his palm gliding along the length of your tail with agonizing slowness. Your thighs instinctively press together, heat coiling low in your stomach. His voice, thick and rough, brushes against your skin. "That sensitive, huh?"
He strokes again, and this time a soft whimper escapes you, followed by another involuntary purr. His breath hitches, forehead pressing against your shoulder as he steadies himself before continuing. His teeth grazing the shell of your ear. His free hand presses against your lower back, keeping you exactly where he wants you, but heâs the one unraveling.
Your purring deepens, vibrating against his chest, and you feel his body tense even more. He lets out a ragged breath, his fingers twitching slightly. For a moment, he just lingers there, letting the sound wash over him.
âYou keep making that sound,â his voice is rough, almost strained, âand I wonât be able to stop.â
You nuzzle against his touch again, silently asking for more, your tail curling slightly in his grip.
âThen donât stop.â
He grunts, his fingers digging into your hips for half a second before he exhales sharplyâthen suddenly, you're flipped over. Your face is pressed against the couch now, your body pinned beneath him. His weight hovers over you, just enough to remind you how easily he could take control. His breath brushes against your ear as he leans in, voice thick with amusement and something darker.
âSo, the kitty wants to play?â His voice is thick with amusement, but his eyes are dark with something else.
His words send a shiver down your spine, but before you can respond, his tongue flicks against your ear, slow and deliberate. His teeth graze the tip before he sucks lightly, making you gasp. One of his hands keeps him propped up so he doesnât crush you, but the other? It slides back down to your tail, this time gripping, stroking with purpose.
A sharp jolt of pleasure runs through you, your body reacting before you can even process it. You arch against him, pressing your hips back, chasing more of that friction.
A strained chuckle escapes him, his breath hitching for a split second before he recovers. His grip on your tail tightens, his hips pressing forward, drawn to the heat of your movements. âLook at youâŚâ His voice is lower now, rougher. His fingers flex, the pressure teasing, almost testing. âSo sensitive here.â
His kisses trail down your neck, lingering, slow. He shifts, brushing your hair aside, exposing more skin. The moment his lips reach the back of your neck, he stills, his breath warm against you. Then, his mouth opens against your skin, tongue tracing slow circles before his teeth sink in just enough to make you squirm.
A deep sound rumbles in his chest at your reaction. He doesnât stop, tracing a slow, burning path along your tattooâlicking, sucking, bitingâas if branding himself into your skin. The sensation is overwhelming, a push and pull between heat and restraint, between teasing and claiming.
Your fingers find his free hand, gripping it tightly, nails digging into his skin as you writhe beneath him. You donât even realize youâre pressing back against him again, your body moving on instinct. A low, guttural groan leaves his lips when he feels itâwhen he feels you.
âImpatient,â he murmurs, but his voice is different nowârough, strained, like heâs barely holding himself together. His hold on your tail shifts, fingers pressing in just enough to feel the way you twitch under his touch. He watches closely, taking in every reaction, his breath stalling for half a second before he strokes again, slower this timeâalmost like heâs testing both your limits and his own.
You catch a glimpse of him from the corner of your eyeâhis hazel eyes, dark and heavy-lidded. His breath uneven as he watches you, drinking in every movement, every sound you make. And yet, even now, heâs restraining himself.
âStop teasing,â you whisper, breathless. âTouch me properly.â
For a moment, he doesnât move, but you can feel the tension in his body, the way his muscles tighten, the way his grip on you trembles just slightly. And then, his hand shifts, trailing down from your tail, following the curve of your body, stopping just short of where you need him most.
His lips brush against your ear as his voice drops lower. âYouâre making this really hard for me.â His fingers press into your skin, his restraint slipping with every second. âYou keep pushing me, and I donât think you even realize it.â
He exhales sharply, his forehead dropping to your back. His fingers twitch against your waist before curling into a fist, knuckles pressing into the cushion beside you. Then, he shaking his head.
"I need a second," he mutters, his voice strained, like heâs barely keeping himself together.
He stills. The heat between you, thick and all-consuming, is nearly too much to bear. You shift beneath him, silently begging, but instead of giving in, he exhales, slow and controlled.
Then, his lips press against your shoulderâsoft, lingering. His fingers, which had been tracing slow, burning lines along your skin, suddenly retreat.
âYouâre enjoying this, arenât you?â His voice is low, amused, and maddeningly composed.
You turn your head slightly, trying to catch his expression, but he only smile, his hands settling on your waist in a way thatâs possessive yet withholding.
âMaybe I should make you wait a little longer,â he muses, his fingers brushing over your tail in a teasingly light touch that makes you shudder. âSee how much you can take.â
Your breath hitches. âZayneââ
He presses another kiss to your shoulder before shifting back slightly, as if deciding to draw this out just a little more.
His fingers trail lower, gliding down the curve of your back until they brush over the base of your tail. The touch is unhurried, intentional, and when you tense beneath him, he exhales softlyâlike heâs committing the reaction to memory.
"Still so sensitive," he murmurs, his voice quiet, almost thoughtful. His fingertips stroke over the spot again, this time with more intent, savoring the way your body shifts beneath his touch.
You shiver, pressing subtly into the sensation, but before you can move too much, his palm settles at the small of your back, keeping you in place. His other hand glides over your hip, his thumb smoothing slow circles into your skin.
"You wanted this," he says, his voice a deep hum, warm and steady. He leans forward slightly, his chest just barely brushing your back as his hand slides up your spine, fingertips tracing along the dip of it with aching slowness. "And now you're trembling for me."
His grip tightensânot rough, but firm, grounding you beneath him. Then his fingers drift lower, teasing along the inside of your thigh, never quite where you want them. The anticipation pulls tight between you, each second stretching unbearably.
"You always push," he says, his tone quieter now, almost indulgent as he watches you react to him. His fingers continue their slow path upward, lingering at the curve of your hip, never quite giving in. "But the moment I touch you like thisâŚ" His thumb skims higher, barely there. "You melt so easily."
His hand moves back to your tail, fingers tracing its base with the same aching slowness. The movement is tender, reverent even, as if heâs savoring every shift and sigh you give him in return. His other hand rests at your lower back, his touch warm, steadying.
He leans down, pressing the lightest kiss just below your ear, his breath warm against your skin. "Youâre too easy to spoil," he murmurs, amusement lacing his words, though there's something softer beneath it.
Then, with one last slow caress over your tail, he chuckles, low and teasing. "I should keep you like this a little longer."
The words linger between you, a promise, a challengeâone that sends another shiver down your spine. But when he shifts forward again, pressing a kiss to the nape of your neck this time, there's no mistaking the warmth in it, the quiet affection woven into his every touch.
Like he has no intention of letting you go just yet.

Danny Punches a Clown Part 6

Danny, after many promises and assurances, lets Red Robin take him to the batcave. They travel by car, and as fancy as it was, Danny was almost scared to touch anything inside it. Red was a much better driver than his father though, so he just closed his eyes and focused on trying to keep his healing up.
The Batcave turned out to be an actual cave, underground, with actual bats in it. He was whisked to a medical area too quickly to see much of anything else besides some other vehicles and a giant computer set up.Â
Someone was waiting in the medical space with a tray of tools and bandages ready next to the bed, Red introduced him as Agent A. They were quick to lie him down on a cot and set him up to a heart monitor and that had Red and the A frowning immediately.
âItâs a medical condition.â Danny blurted, and both pairs of eyes shot to him. âMy heartrate is naturally very slow, temperature runs cold, pale skin, slow circulation so I can't have a lot of different medications." Not that any medications would really work, but better safe than sorry. Them not working would be suspicious, and Danny does not have the energy or focus for trying to keep straight any real explanations right now. "Itâs fine, I promise.â
Agent A nodded slowly. âIs there anything else we should know before we start treatment?â
âJust can't give me any medicines, I think that's the only relevant bit.â
âAlright, I will keep that in mind. Please lift your shirt so I can see the wound.â
Danny does, and they manage their expressions quite well on seeing it. Agent A goes immediately for creams and bandages.
âWhat burned you like that?â Red asked.
âGun.â Danny was starting to slur. He did not want to sleep right now, with these people here.
âA gun? What kind of gun causes burns?â
âNew blaster, parents made it special.â
âYour parents make guns?â
Danny shrugs, turning his head to look at Red instead of the far off ceiling of the cave. âMy parents make lots of things. They're scientists, inventors." Danny waves his arm around vaguely. "The gun was new though, hadnât been shot with that one before. The earlier versions were much less powerful.â
âAre you saying that your parents are the ones that shot you?â Red asked gently, taking a seat in the chair next to the bed. âIt wasnât just their gun that was used?â
Danny frowns. âWell yeah.â
Tim is very concerned at the tone he just used, like getting shot at by your parents was normal. âDo they shoot at you a lot?â
âFair amount I suppose.â Red could see Danny thinking really hard about something. Danyâs head was really starting to hurt. His brain was fuzzy and he knew he should be concerned about something, but couldnât figure out what. His parents shooting at him was nothing new, considering. âLike, they did it more than Vlad but I donât see him as often, and theyâve done it longer than the GIW, but since the GIW has started theyâve been about equal I guess. I mean, sometimes all the defense systems in the house target me but that wasnât technically intentional. Took forever for us to figure out how to get them to stop that.â
âDanny, when was the last time you slept?â Red asked gently.
Danny wasnât sure if his blip earlier this morning counted. He didnât think it lasted more than an hour, but the last time he slept before that was before his fight in Amity, escaping through the ghost zone and running around in this dimension.
âItâs been awhile.â Danny landed on. True enough for medical history he supposed.
âRight.â A finished the last of the bandages and tugged Dannyâs shirt back down. âWell, why donât you do that now, while we go and find you something to eat.â
âIâm too tired to fight food right now.â
Tim shared a look with Alfred before turning back to Danny. âOkay then. Maybe sleep first and then eat?â
âI will go start making something now that youâre all set up here Mister Danny.â Agent A states, walking past the medical curtains and shutting them behind him. Red pulled out a tablet and started tapping on it. He noticed Dannyâs eyes on him after a moment.
âYou going to sleep?â
âStrange place, strange people. Not sure thatâs the best decision here.â
Red looked up from his tablet.
âYou trusted me enough to come here. Trust me enough to sleep. I will make sure no one but me or A comes in before youâre ready.â

Summary: Rogue takes pictures/videos of you and logan and gives them to you two as a gift on her anniversary of arriving at the mansion.
Rogue had been at Xavier's for close to two years now, and she wanted to make a special gift for the people who helped her adjust the most since arriving here. You and Logan, the two of you had really taken her under your wings and treated her more like a daughter than anything else and she wanted to show her appreciation in some way so she thought a homemade scrapbook of sorts would be a nice little token of gratitude.
She started collecting candid pictures and even took some videos of you two when no one was looking earlier in the year, and she complied them for you to view whenever you wanted. She put finishing touches on it before taking a deep breath and going to find the two of you.
She found you in the living room trying to find a movie to watch. She interrupt the argument of whether you should watch a western movie or a horror movie by clearing her throat, "I made you guys something, it's just something small, just as a thank you" she held out the box and you took it from her hands smiling up at her as Logan tried to protest the gift, "there's nothing to be thanking for" you elbowed him and shushed him. "Sweetie, that's too much." The three of you sat down and began to go through the box together.
Moment 1.) A cuddle session.
The first moment was something she walked in on accidentally. She knew you had a rough day so she went to your room with some cookies to try and cheer you up but when she sneaked in she stopped in her tracks. On your bed was you and Logan wrapped in each other's arms. Logan had you on his lap and he was whispering softly into your ears reassuring you for multiple things, everything that went wrong today he was trying to remind you was going to work out, that it was just one bad day and tomorrow will be better. He reminded you how much he loved you as his hands went up and down your spin soft and slowly. It was still the beginning of your relationship so no one really got to see you two super close like this and it made Marie's heart swell with happiness for her two favorite people. She quickly took a picture of you and sneaked away to go share the cookies with Kurt.
Moment 2.) You bandaging him up even though he heals.
Logan got home late, and his knuckles were blooded from the fight he had been in. You were already worried because he was home much later than he was supposed to be, but seeing him hurt sent you over. "Honey!" You move to him faster than he could try to stop you. You looked clearly in distress when you took notice of the injury, and even though he was trying to reassure you that he would heal just fine, you forced him to let you wash and disinfect his cuts. Marie got a quick video of you standing between Logan's legs as you put disinfectant on a cotton swap before muttering softly to him that it'll sting. The clip was short, but she was able to capture love behind Logans eyes as he looked at you even if he was shaking his head at your antics.
Moment 3.) Him cutting your food for you during family dinner.
Every Sunday, the entire group tries their best to all get together for dinner, it had been a few weeks since the last time it had been a successful gathering but this particular Sunday everyone was actually able to gather around the table. You had been the one who made the majority of the food, and as everyone began to eat, you were sitting next to Logan completely distracted by your conversation with Charles over the material you were planning on teaching. Logan turned to ask you a question when he took notice of you not eating. He switched plates with you and began to cut your food for you. After he had everything cut and divided into their own section so nothing was touching he switched plates again and tapped your shoulder to get your attention. You turned around, and he just nodded to your plate before beginning to eat himself. You smiled and picked up your fork, eating while carrying on with your conversation. The only people at the table who took notice of this moment was Charles, who gave you a knowing smile when you turned your attention back to him, and Marie who somehow was able to get the whole thing on camera.
Moment 4.) Him putting your hair up for you.
The next moment Rogue caught was actually on the same Sunday as the family dinner. You were in the midst of cooking when you started to get hot. You were asking around to see if any of the girls around had a hair tie or something you could use to put your hair up or at least away from your skin, and no one did. You admitted defeat and went back to cooking when Logan came up and gathered your hair for you before taking the scrunchie he carries on his wrist off and putting your hair up in a messy bun. He kissed your cheek and walked off, leaving you blushing and a bit frazzled before going to check on the potatoes. Marie couldn't believe her luck when she looked down at her camera and saw that she got a great photo of the act.
Moment 5.) You kissing his cheek with lipstick.
This moment was caught completely accidental, but it was one of Marie's favorites. You had just finished getting ready when you realized you were running late for a lunch date with old friends, as you rushed through the mansion you found Logan in the living talking to Marie and a few others you stood on your tip toes and kissed his cheek before saying goodbye and rushing out the door leaving behind a blushing Logan who had a bright red lipstick mark on his cheek, a mark he didn't wash off for a few hours claiming to everyone that he had "no idea" that you left make up on him.
Moment 6.) He carries your bags for you always.
Logan doesn't like going shopping, you however love it. It was a rare moment where all of you agreed to go to the mall, everyone but Logan agreed. You dragged him along from store to store and as you looked throughout the store he would look like he was living a nightmare but in reality he was the one who was finding everything you were wanting to try and find on your shopping spree that day. By the end of the trip, he was carrying six different bags and holding your hand. You had the biggest smile on your face, and Logan was walking with a sense of pride, knowing you were as happy as ever next to him.
As you finished going through the few moments she was able to capture on camera, Logan leaned over and kissed your head, and you started to tear up. There are dozens and dozens of more that occur everyday that she didn't capture, moments that the two of you share that no one will never see but these five moments that have been caught will be held close to your heart for the rest of time.

Shamefully, Remus doesnât notice until youâre asked a question. Sirius has been on a rant about the injustice of him being expected to work while thereâs a concert he wants to go to next week (heâs used up all his personal days, and his manager has finally caught on to his strategy of pretending to have diarrhea anytime he wants out of a shift) for the past twenty minutes, and James, sweetheart that he is, has tried to bring you into the conversation by asking if youâve been to any shows you liked.Â
Remus looks to you for your answer, thinking you might say something about the small concert in the park heâd taken you to before youâd started dating (or started dating officially, that is. Remus had been flirting with you for weeks before you caught on), but you only smile with one side of your mouth and nod. James takes it for shyness and moves on.Â
Remus feels for your hand under the table, intertwining your fingers with his as he ducks towards your ear. âYou alright, dove?âÂ
You nod again, neglecting to talk as you rest the side of your head against his shoulder. Remus sweeps his thumb across the back of your hand pensively. You usually donât have much trouble with his friends, but they are particularly loud tonight. All overeager, talking over each other and making noisy, boisterous sounds whenever one of them makes a joke or a baiting remark. The tables around you arenât much tamer, everyone in the restaurant almost needing to shout to be heard. He supposes he should have guessed earlier that it could be overwhelming for you.Â
âDo you want to go?â he murmurs.Â
You tilt your head back to look at him, your eyes searching. Uncertain.Â
âIâm ready to leave if you are,â Remus amends. Then you rub your lips together, nodding. âYeah? Letâs go, lovely girl.âÂ
He stands, moving so you can slip out of the booth. Your table wails and jeers about you leaving so early, and Remus sets a hand on your back as he fields the complaints, leading you away. Heâs not entirely ungrateful for the refreshing quiet as you step outside, either.Â
Your eyes are on him as you walk to the car. Remus raises an eyebrow at you.Â
âDo you have your pad with you?âÂ
You look hesitant, but nod.Â
âIs there something you want to tell me?âÂ
You frown, digging the small notepad out of your back pocket. Remus passes you a pen. He unlocks his car and opens the door for you, going around to his own seat while you scribble on the page. Once he starts the engine to get the heat going, you nudge the notepad against his leg.Â
He takes it, reading silently. Are you upset I made us leave? We can go back if you want.
He suspects his incredulity shows on his face before he schools his expression into gentleness, looking up at you. âOf course Iâm not upset,â he says, making sure to hold your gaze when you shy a bit, self-conscious. âI was ready to leave too, but besides that I wouldnât want to stay if you werenât having a good time. Itâs never a bother.â He sets the notepad back in your lap, taking your hand in his. âUnderstand?âÂ
You nod, and the bashful little smile you give him makes Remusâ heart feel too big for his chest.Â
âGood.â He imbues his voice with exaggerated sternness, rewarded when your cheek dimples. âGlad weâre clear on that. Is there anything else you need? You hardly touched your dinner, do you wanna get something before we go home?âÂ
You stick your tongue in your cheek. Remus recognizes the hesitance and releases your hand, pushing the pen back into it.Â
âWrite it down, sweetheart.âÂ
You sigh as though defeated. Your eyes squint a bit as you write, stopping for a second before finishing and passing the notepad back.Â
Can we drive through somewhere? I donât want to have to talk to anyone.
âYeah, easy.â Remus slides it back to you, shifting the car into reverse and backing out of his parking spot. âDo you feel like a milkshake? We could go by the place just down our street, or whatever youââ You nod eagerly, and he smiles. âYeah? Alright, just write down your order, okay? Iâll read it out when we get there.â You laugh your ass off when Remus unthinkingly reads your whole order aloud to the drive-thru worker, including the note at the end that says Thanks handsome, love you.

The Gambit (Hotch x Fem!Reader) -- part eight
More lore! Work and life have kept me busy busy busy but trust I am still here for this fic and will be finishing it! (Also if you can't tell I started writing this fic after I first watched the Seaver episodes and thought I can write this so much better and with so much more angst)
Warnings: Rossi being Rossi, Hotch doing something he really shouldn't be doing but he thinks it's justified and maybe it is so who's to say if he's in the wrong!
You first knew something was different about your dad when you were ten.
There were the usual, obvious things that confused you as a kid. Like when heâd go away for long stretches of time, only to return like nothing had happened and act like he was never gone at all. Or when heâd return with these extravagant gifts, as if that made up for the birthday party he missed, or the big recital. Or when you heard your parents arguing, your mom tearfully asking if there was someone else, and screaming âI donât believe you!â when your dad insisted there was no one.
There are the less obvious things that confuse you now, things you look back on when you want to analyze his behavior. Why he traveled so far to find his victims, why he tried to live a double life, why he did any of it at all. You dip your hands into the memories day after day and each time you come up empty handed. Why did he let you get kidnapped, only to help them find you? Was he ever behind your kidnapping at all? You donât know. Youâll never know.
Even if you could ask him, you donât know that you would. Your mom picked you up, changed your name, and moved you away for a reason. She gave you a fresh start. Sheâs the reason you are where you are, and youâre not going to throw that away.Â
You had no idea Rossi worked on your fatherâs case all those years ago. You knew the BAU had gotten involved briefly at one point, but not who.Â
What are the odds and what kind of bad luck streak do you have to have to be working with one of the investigators who helped catch your father?
The ceiling offers you no answers. You left the precinct as quickly as you could, wanting to take a hot shower and crawl in bed and pretend to be asleep when Hotch or Rossi inevitably knocks on your door later.
Rossi knows. He must. Why else would he look at you like that? And if he does, how long has he known? Has he told Hotch? Would he tell Hotch, or would he keep it quiet? Does he know that part of your file is sealed? Does he know you discussed it with Strauss, keeping that part of your life sealed because it isnât relevant, not after all the work you did to create a separate life?
Youâre going to make yourself sick if you keep asking this many questions, but how are you supposed to stop?Â
Youâve worked too hard to create a life completely separate from your father to let it all unravel like this. You knew it was risky going into this line of work, let alone the BAU, but with a name change and two decades worth of distance, you thought it was deep enough in the past. You thought you had buried it far enough below the surface.
You cannot afford to have it haunt you like this, to interfere with your work so badly that you flee. You have to figure this out. And you have to get yourself under control.

Hotch and Rossi are, like most nights, the last two at the precinct, trying to squeeze out some final leads before calling it a night. They donât get far, and itâs Rossi who caves, saying they should get some rest for once. Hotch is quicker than usual to agree.
âWhat was that about earlier? About The Strangler?â Hotch asks. âSince you worked it, do you think we have a copycat on our hands?âÂ
Itâs a poor excuse for a subject change, and Rossi is onto him in a second.
He shakes his head. âNo, we donât.â
Hotch grabs his cup and heads for the door. âAndâŚY/N? She seemed shaken up.â
Rossi raises an eyebrow, changing the subject slightly. âYou two seemed to be getting along today.â
Hotch lets out a laugh as they exit the precinct. âWeâll be back to our usual selves tomorrow, probably, donât worry.â
âI hope not,â Rossi says, rounding the car to hop in the passenger side. âYouâre the only people who like to hear you two bickering, you know.â
Hotch rolls his eyes, sticking the keys in the ignition. âI donât like arguing with her. She just insists on it.â
âAnd you push her buttons.â
âI donât try to.â
Rossi only smiles to himself, always happy to rile Hotch up in whatever way he can, especially when it comes to you. Itâs too easy to do it.
Rossi is able to convince Hotch to head back to the hotel, but not to grab a drink at the bar.
âI think Iâm just gonna head to bed,â Hotch says, pausing outside the elevator. âYou should too.â
âI will,â Rossi smirks, though he turns toward the bar anyway, nodding to Hotch as he presses the up arrow for the elevator.
Rounding the corner, Rossi finds a familiar face perched on a bar stool, nursing a glass of red wine.
He watches you briefly, gauging whether youâd like to be left alone. He canât tell. He decides to slide onto the stool next to you, waving the bartender down to order two fingers of whiskey.
You wonât look at him. You wonât look anywhere other than your wine, but you knew Rossi and Hotch had come back. You could hear Hotchâs voice from the lobby, your body tense as you prepared for them both to make their way here and see you not at all asleep like you said youâd be.
You meant to sleep. But your mind was wide awake, and before you knew it, you were dragging yourself downstairs for a glass of wine, hoping the alcohol would tire you out.
And now, apparently, the price youâll pay is a conversation with Rossi.
Seeing as heâs here alone, you figure thereâs no sense in hiding behind cryptic sentences and silence. Better to rip the band-aid off now, while no one else is around.
âHow long have you known?â you ask, studying the stem of your glass instead of looking him in the eye.
The bartender sets Rossiâs whiskey down in front of him. Rossi nods to him, and hands a black card over. âAnother glass of red for her, please. On me.â
You swirl the remaining swallow of wine in your glass before downing it. The bartender replaces it with a silent smile before leaving you both alone.
Rossi takes a sip of his whiskey, studying the array of liqueurs along the wall across from him. âDo you remember meeting me?â
Itâs not an answer to your question and it confuses you. âYeah? You told me âgood luckâ with Hotch because I was late.â
âNo,â Rossi shakes his head with a fond smile, turning his head to look at you. âYou were young.â
You wrack your brain, trying to remember when you mightâve met him. You come up empty, but youâre not surprised that you donât remember. Your memories are hazy at best from those times, but the few you do remember are vivid. Just none of them include David Rossi.
âIt was brief,â Rossi says, taking your silence for the answer it is. âAfter we had found you, and we needed to talk to your mom about some of what your dad admitted to while we had him in custody while we searched for you.â
That day comes back to you in fits and starts, flashes here and there. A much younger David Rossi floats into your mind, but with no words to accompany him, exceptâ
âDidnât you offer me a cup of coffee?â
He laughs quietly. âI did. I was trying to lighten the mood.â
âIt worked,â you say, remembering with a smile. You pause. âSo youâve known the whole time?â
He shakes his head. âI thought I recognized you the first day, but I ignored it. It wasnât until tonight that it clicked all together. You are twenty years older, you know.â
âHey,â you feign hurt, punching him lightly in the arm. âYou too, old man.â
âDonât remind me,â he chuckles, taking another sip of his whiskey. âHave you told Hotch?â
You practically snort into your wine glass. âGod, no.â You pause to take a long sip, needing it to steel your nerves. âOnly Strauss knows, because she saw my background check before I asked to have some of it sealed. My father and original name were part of what I decided to have redacted.â You take a deep breath. âMy mom moved us away and changed our last names for a reason. A fresh start. A new life without being haunted by what my father did.â
Rossi nods slowly. âWell youâve got everyone suspicious after how you acted earlier.â
You grimace. âI know.â Not your finest moment.
âWhy not get it over with and tell everyone?â Rossi asks. âOr at least Hotch?â
You roll your eyes. âHeâll look at me differently.â
âWill he?â Rossi argues gently. âHow do you know?â
You give Rossi a look. âBecause I know him.âÂ
Rossi hums. He doesnât need to say anything to prompt you to continue.
âHe already hates that Iâm here â as if working with him is any better â and Iâm sure heâs looking for any reason he can to tell Strauss to get rid of me,â you scoff. âThe last thing I need is him saying Iâm unfit for the job just because Iâm a little shaken up at a random mention of the man who nearly killed me and my mother.â
Rossi goes still beside you, turning his head slowly.
You sigh, finishing off your second glass of wine. âYouâre telling me none of you suspected he had tried anything with my mom and me?â
Rossi shakes his head. âWe were never told otherwise, and your momâ���
âYeah, well,â you shrug. âShe loved him.â
Rossi frowns at your dismissal, resting his hand on the bar, but not touching you. âNo one will fault you if you need time.â
âIâve had two decades of time, Rossi,â you cry, placing your forehead in your hand. âI thought that was long enough.â
This time, he does reach for you, resting a hand gently on your shoulder. Heâs never seen you this broken up, not even when you were thirteen, after they found you, when they all expected you to be upset. You were put together back then, your brain having not had any time to process it all. Now, youâve had the time to process, youâve lived your life in between, and it still haunts you. Because it always will. Because these things donât just go away, no matter how badly you want them to.
âItâll always be hard,â Rossi says. âIâm sorry I canât say it goes away.â
You snort, burying your face further into your hand. âI wish it would. Heâs dead, I wish heâd stop following me around.â
âYou couldnât have chosen a different career?â Rossi teases, shaking your shoulder a bit before letting go.
It does make you laugh, because heâs right. âI know. What was I thinking?â Your mother tried talking you out of it, but you never listened. She eventually came around to the idea after she heard you talk about how much you loved helping people, but it always worried her somewhat.
âI have no idea,â Rossi says, smiling around his whiskey as he finishes it off. âIâm having another, would you like one?â
You shake your head, sitting up. âNo, noâŚI should actually go to bed now, I think, but thank you. For the wine and the uh, conversation.â
âAnytime,â Rossi says, squeezing your shoulder one more time. âGet some rest.â
âYou too,â you give him a pointed look, eyeing the new whiskey the bartender sets down.
âIâll sleep good after this,â he picks up the glass, raising it toward you.
You roll your eyes as you head back toward the elevator, strangely feeling lighter â and not because of the alcohol. Youâll begrudgingly admit, talking it out with Rossi helped.
But that doesnât mean talking to Hotch about it will have the same effect.

Back in his hotel room, Hotch takes a shower and crawls into bed. He tosses and turns for an hour, staring a hole into his eyelids. He gets up to take a walk around the room, hoping itâll help. All it does is make him pause when he spots his briefcase, knowing what lies inside.
The files he asked Garcia to pull werenât unusual. Just your background check, with one condition. To unseal whatever was hidden.Â
Because he had thought it was odd for you to have parts of it sealed, let alone that Strauss agreed to let you. But it wasnât something he particularly wanted to argue with Strauss about.Â
After seeing you stop breathing entirely at the mention of The Strangler â an obscure case, one truly infamous only to Reid and his eidetic memory â Hotch is worried. Thatâs the only name he can think of to give the feeling swarming in his chest.
Heâs worried about one of his agents, and dammit, he feels like that is a justifiable enough reason to do some digging. If it concerns the well-being of one of the agents he oversees, he wouldnât forgive himself if he didnât try to get to the bottom of it. Even if they seem hellbent on keeping it hidden.
Thatâs all the convincing he needs to do for himself before he walks over and snatches his briefcase off the desk, opening it with a click.Â
Your file lies right where he left it, along with Penelopeâs sticky note. Her gel writing makes him pause.
Should he be reading this?
Whatâs his alternative, though? Asking you outright? That will only start a fight, or worse, youâll quit on the spot. Youâve made it clear that you donât want to tell him whatâs going on, and if he pushes too far, youâre both liable to say things you canât take back.
This is better. Itâs going behind your back, but itâs better. Is it really betraying your trust if itâs clear you donât trust him? You donât even like him, which you have made abundantly clear.Â
You seemed to open up a little to him today, but that doesnât mean tomorrow you wonât be right back to the way you were yesterday. Thereâs no way to know for sure.
So, Hotch stops the back and forth, and pulls the file out, flipping to the second page. Then the third. Then to what was sealed.
The words jump out at him too fast for him to understand them, his heart thundering in his ears as he reads.
Your name â the one he knows you by â is not what you were born with. Well, your first name is, but your middle and surname are changed entirely. Your original surname was Adkins.
Adkins. Likeâ
His eyes scan further, finding the inevitable on your birth certificate. Your father. Carson Adkins.
You were fourteen when your names changed. Fourteen when you moved to Washington state. Fourteen when your mother changed her surname, too, back to her maiden name â the one you now have. Fourteen when your life started over.
Because when you were thirteen, Carson Adkins, The Strangler, threatened to end it.

"You, Always." - Danny Ramirez
Warnings: Slowburn, RPF Fic, Multi-part series
Part One
Time to start over.
Danny and (Y/N) hadnât seen each other in almost three yearsâsince the day he graduated from college.
Honestly, theyâd started growing apart even before that. But it all escalated after a conversation they had right after the graduation ceremony. That was the last time they spoke, and after that, the silence settled inâa strange, unnatural distance, only broken by occasional mentions of each otherâs names through mutual friends.
They both focused on themselves. For some time, it felt like a lot was left unsaid. But, there was not much any of them could do when pride and hurt weighted more than anything else. It was over, and after some time, they accepted the idea and moved on. For good.
At least that's what Danny thought, until he learned that he was going to see her again.
Amelia and Yason, still close friends to both of them, were getting married. And of course, that was the perfect reason to reunite the whole friend group. Amelia had always been the glue in their circle, and she was determined to bring everyone back togetherâeven if it meant flying people in from different states and countries to celebrate.
She was on the phone with Danny, making sure heâd confirmed his attendance when she casually mentioned something that caught him off guard.
"So, you're for sure coming, right?" Amelia asked, her voice relaxed but unmistakably friendly, the conversation now going on for good a while.
"Would I lie to you?" Danny grinned, though she couldn't see it. "I'll be there."
"Okay, perfect. So⌠should I add a plus one to your RSVP or�"
"No," Danny replied, a breath of laughter escaping him while finishing up the last lap of his afternoon run. "Just me. No plus one."
Ameliaâs voice shifted slightly, more upbeat. "Awesome. Iâm working on a little hangout before the wedding. Trying to coordinate everyone's schedules. If I'm lucky, I can get the bridesmaids to come a couple of days earlier. (Y/N) and Reiny are supposed to stay with me for a couple of days, but Iâm not sure about the others.â
â(Y/N)?â Danny asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice as his jog slowed.
âYeah, (Y/N). She's one of my bridesmaids...â Ameliaâs response carried a tone that suggested it shouldâve been obvious.
"What? Cat got your tongue?" she teased.
"No⌠No, itâs just⌠itâs been a while since Iâve seen her. Howâs she doing, anyway?"
The conversation shifted. Amelia wasnât one to keep things to herself, but she also felt it wasn't the right thing to vent about (Y/N)'s life without her knowing. So, instead, she made sure to make it clear that her friend had being doing well, thought her life had changed in the years since. And at last, she ended up with a single expression.
" I think you two have some catching up to do. Just... Try not to waist it."
Unlike Danny, (Y/N) hadnât known he would be at the wedding. She couldnât say she wasnât surprised when she found outâhe had been busy with his acting career, blowing up in ways that kept him constantly moving. She figured heâd be wrapped up in projects and rehearsals, so his presence at the wedding seemed unexpected but not completely shocking.
Two days before the wedding, the closest friends and loved ones of the bride and groom met at a restaurant in SoHo. The rooftop section was packed with people, surrounded by familiar faces and the kind of easy camaraderie they tend to have. The music played, laughter floated through the air, and the evening felt just as alive as it ever had.
Danny showed up an hour late, but that didnât stop Yason from spotting him immediately. He walked over, pulling Danny into a warm hug like nothing had changed.
As the group noticed Danny entering, the attention shifted toward himâespecially from those who had been closest to him back in the day. (Y/N)âs gaze lingered a little too long as he moved through the crowd. Her heart skipped when their eyes met, and she quickly looked away, pretending to focus on the menu at the bar. The nerves started to bubble up.
But Danny, feeling that same familiar pull, walked toward her, moving through the crowd with a calm confidence that made (Y/N)'s heart race again.
"Hey." A light tap on her arm brought her back to the present. She looked up to see him standing there, smiling like no time had passed.
"Danny, hi," she greeted, trying to sound casual, though her voice betrayed her nerves.
"Been a while, huh?" Dannyâs voice was light, but there was something tentative beneath it. He sat next to her, glancing around at the group before his focus shifted back to her. "Howâs everything? Howâs the family doing?"
The conversation flowed easier than (Y/N) expected, like theyâd never been apart. It felt natural, comfortable, yet full of the kind of unspoken tension only old friendsâor maybe something moreâcould share. That last conversation they had, the one that shifted things between them, lingered in the air, but neither of them was ready to address it. They chose to ignore it, for now.
Danny noticed how (Y/N) had changed. She was still the same person, but there was something different nowâsomething that made him pause before speaking. He didnât want to sound like he was only noticing how much she'd grown, but it was hard to ignore.
"This oneâs on me," Danny said, trying to keep things light after they both ordered another round of drinks.
"No, really, you donât have to," (Y/N) protested.
"I know." Danny grinned, but his gaze flickered to hers before darting away. "So, you graduated! Whatâs next for you?"
"Well..." She took a sip of her drink, rolling her eyes with a laugh. "Good question. I moved to Miami. Been trying to get my name out there as a songwriter. You know how it isâsaturated market, fewer opportunities. Just trying to stand out."
"I get it," Danny nodded. "With acting, itâs the same. Gotta stay consistent, keep pushing through⌠But hey, Miami? Thatâs my hometown!"
"I know," (Y/N) replied, a knowing smile pulling at her lips.
Danny leaned in slightly, lowering his voice just a bit, as though making the conversation more private. "Well, listen⌠Iâm not living there right now because of projects, but if you needâ"
Before he could finish, Amelia appeared out of nowhere, slinging her arm around both of them. "Sorry to interrupt, but weâre about to order food. You guys can keep talking after that."
The flow of the night continued, and soon enough, (Y/N) and Danny were seated at opposite ends of the table.
Amelia leaned over to (Y/N) once they were settled. âSaw you two talking,â she said, an amused look on her face. âHowâd it go?â
âIt was good,â (Y/N) said quietly, more subdued than she expected. âI just... wasnât expecting him to be here. You didnât mention it.â
"I know," Amelia replied with a small, knowing smile. "I didnât want to make it weird. Itâs been a while, but I think you both deserve a second chance."
"A second chance for what?" (Y/N) raised an eyebrow, but there was a slight churn in her stomach at Ameliaâs words.
"Chill," Amelia said, her smile soft and teasing. "What I mean is, thereâs no need to act like strangers. You two were closeâreally close. Donât let time or any other thing ruin that."
âWeâre fine,â (Y/N) said quickly, her gaze avoiding Ameliaâs. Her stomach twisted again, but she didnât want to admit that part of her was unsettled by the idea of facing Danny again.
"Exactly," Amelia agreed, her voice gentle. "Just relax and enjoy tonight. Thatâs why weâre here."
The rest of the night passed in a blurâlaughter, more drinks, and conversations that ended drifting from one hangout spot to the next one. By the time the energy started to fade, only six of themâthe core groupâremained, still hanging out under the soft glow of the city lights. Everyone was tired, and instead of catching a ride, they walked back to the hotel after realizing it was past 2 am.
Amelia, who'd been a bit tipsy for most of the night, leaned on (Y/N), who was trying to keep it together but clearly feeling the weight of the exhaustion, too.
âI swear we were almost there 20 minutes ago. How much farther is it?!â
Reiny, already annoyed, replied, âYouâve been saying that for the past five blocks, Amelia. I canât believe we actually listened to the drunkest person in the group. I just want to be in bed by this point.â
"Bro, we used to pull all-nighters and still go out for breakfast. This is a warm-up. Weâre 25, not 60," RenĂŠ interrupted, not missing a beat of the conversation.
" Speak for yourself. I was an old lady at heart back then, and I still am now." (Y/N) replied after an instant, sensing how Amelia giggled and leaned on her more heavily than necessary, making her stumble a little.
âBaby, why donât we leave (Y/N) alone? Come lean on me,â Yason said, picking up the pace a little before both girls ended up on the floor.
âBut she's fiââ Amelia started to complain.
âNo, actually?â (Y/N) cut her off. âYou go do that. My feet are killing me, Ame. Iâve been wearing heels since 3 pm, and I can barely feel them by now.â (Y/N) practically shoved Amelia toward Yason, who was right next to her.
As (Y/N) shifted her weight, trying to keep steady, Danny picked up the pace to walk beside her, glancing at her shoes before his gaze met her face.
He didnât say anything for a moment, then casually stopped forcing the guys to do so too and pulled off his sneakers to hand them over to her. "Here, theseâll probably be more comfortable," he said, his tone completely unbothered, almost as if it were no big deal.
(Y/N) looked down at the sneakers, slightly taken aback but not wanting to make it awkward. "What? Iâ No. Thatâs kind of... I don't know. You don't have to."
"So, youâd rather get blisters than take up my offer? Itâs only like 10 minutes more before we get to the hotel."
"You know how dirty the streets of NY are, dude?" (Y/N) raised an eyebrow, still not believing what he was doing.
"I have socks on. Youâre not going to last two more minutes more in those. Câmon, just take them. Don't overthink it."
Her hesitation lasted a moment longer before she gave in, still unsure of what in the world was happening right there. "Alright, fine. Thanks."
Danny didnât make a big deal about it, just slipping his hands into his pockets as she changed shoes for all of them to continue their way. The guys, still trailing behind, and having noticed the exchange, passed a few quiet chuckles between them.
Yason muttered low enough for only the guys to hear, his grin broadening. "Oh man, I missed this."
RenĂŠ chuckled under his breath, looking sideways at Danny. "Classic move, man. Taking one for the team, huh?"
Danny shot them a look, rolling his eyes with a small smile on his face, but didnât say a word as they kept walking.
Meanwhile, (Y/N) pushed herself to go back to Reiny's side, grateful for the offer but still feeling the oddness of the situation. She couldnât quite shake the feeling that she didn't know how to act around him, and for the mean time, it was just something she had to live with.
As the group finally took the last turn to get to the hotel, the faint sound of laughter and quiet chatter filled the air. The night felt light again, the easy rhythm of old friendships slowly falling back into place.

Ok but since Thunderbolts is coming out soon, how about something where Reader is either his campaign manager, or secretary, or like his handler when he makes appearances and somehow Bucky trusts her more than anyone else on his staff, so he invites her as his plus one to the Gala.
If you want to make it angsty/throw in some action, you could have Valentina sabotage his date at the gala by slipping something in her drink or having her goons tail reader home afterwards. đđđ

Two Hearts: part 1

Youâd started out as his PR manager, for the first few months, thatâs all you were to him, and he swore by that, he really did. But somewhere along the way, youâd become something much more, something he couldnât quite put his finger on.
It didnât start when you first entered the office, you were a breath of fresh air to the mundane office, but you were just new. Your desk was filled with little trinkets colourful sticky notes plastered over the frame of your computer monitor. But all Bucky thought was that you were sweet.
But then you had to start coming places with him, and doing interviews just off camera so he could look to you for help, and all of a sudden your sweetness became a buoy, something to desperately grasp onto as he felt he was sinking into the depths of the interviewer's questions. Even if you didnât need to step in, your presence was always calming enough that he knew exactly how to handle it, a situation heâd found himself in too few a time in his life.
So what, you became something along the line of a friend for him, someone he could confide in and sort of trust. Which meant a lot coming from a man who spent months trying to let goddamn Sam in, and you did it within a few weeks.
Somehow throughout the campaign, he couldnât stop himself from letting you weasel yourself into the list of his most dearest. Between your reassuring smiles and little gifts and honestly just you, Bucky felt like you could very possibly be his person. Sometimes you could just be there and it would put the tiniest of smiles on his face, sending you a little wave across a crowded bar- and yeah Sam would take the piss out of him for it, but heâd gotten past Samâs endless teasing a while ago.
That bar had become a weird sort of crossover point for your and Buckyâs life outside of work. Sometimes youâd sit with your friend when you finished a little earlier or occasionally a group, Bucky noted he never saw you with a boyfriend but wasnât really sure why his brain would even think that. He and Sam would meet there after long days at work and oftentimes, you and your friends would be regulars in the crowded building, lazing by the bar as you drank together.
Youâd never talk to each other in there, but it seemed that the other was constantly in your eyeline, always watching, subtly checking in. But after a few of these nights, Bucky couldnât stop his eyes wandering to your figure all night. Sam was twittering about something or another, and he tried to focus, he really did, but how was he supposed to do that when you were sat a few seats away, looking so captivating.
Sam had stopped talking halfway through, not that Bucky had noticed, and instead started laughing as he watched the unusually stone cold exterior of his friend crumble as he longingly stared at your back. âDude, you're whipped!â Heâd managed to get out between his breathless laughs.
Samâs words had managed to catch his attention, gaze flicking from you to him as the words set in and his brow furrowed. âWhat- Iâm not-â
Despite his protests and insistent denials of having any sort of interest in you in that way, Bucky Sam persisted and eventually, it took more energy to deny it than let Sam have his fun - or at least thatâs what Bucky said to himself. And sure that little flutter in his chest he felt whenever you smiled felt as if it grew every single goddamn day, he still couldnât quite bring himself to admit that he had a crush on you.
But even if he did, it would be wrong and immoral, he was trying to represent a need for change, present to the country why he could be trusted, and you were supposed to help, not make him fall into some strange tango of emotions with you. But you did, and it wasnât your fault, he didnât think he could fault you for the goddamn end of the world if you caused it.
So when he needed a plus one to a gala, you were the only logical answer. He trusted you above everybody else who worked with him, and maybe he wanted an excuse to see you outside of your office or press conference or interview rooms. Bucky wanted a glimpse of you heâd seen at the bar with your friends, he just wanted a taste of the life he wished he could have with you.
Your office was a place heâd enjoyed being in more and more as the past few months had occurred. The photo frames on your desk were scattered and everything had a slight messiness that brought a feeling of coziness. Heâd often find reasons to linger in there, so it wasn't out of character when he appeared one day.
âMorning.â You greeted him with a smile after his polite knocks, sipping on your coffee, one hand wrapped around your kermit the frog mug whilst typing out an email to a news agency with your other. Bucky had nodded, he was usually less talkative in the mornings -which youâd taken a note of to move any media prep to the afternoons. You blew on the steaming mug before tilting your head, âYou good?â
Heâd sat himself on the sage green couch tucked in the corner of the room and smiled softly at you before relying. âI have a question for you.â
Immediately, you placed your mug on the coaster and stopped typing, letting your arms cross over the wooden desk, elbow brushing the wrapper of one of those breakfast bars you liked so much. Heâd made sure to stock up the kitchen after finding out your habit of snacking on them. âAsk away.â
Now, Bucky Barnes wasnât generally a nervous man,or at least not when it came to women, but you managed to make it seem like asking you to be his +1 was a life or death event, as though the decision itself would alter the way the earth spins on its axis. Which to him, it may well have.
Bucky avoided your eyes, glancing just past your head at the drapes that were tied beside your large windows looking out into the city. âThat gala I have to go to next month, the fundraising one, I donât- ermâŚâ
You let out a sigh as you leant forward on your arms, lips pursed. âBucky, you have to go. Itâs too late now, I canât get you out of it, if youâd told me a few days ago then maybe but-â
âNo, no, you have it wrong.â He quickly interrupted, shaking his head, âNo, I was going to say that I donât have a plus one, and I would be really grateful and forever in your debt if youâd possiblyâŚâ He trailed off again, scrunching his nose and finally meeting your eyes, âGo with me?â
You blinked once.
Then twice.
And finally a third time before you managed to move your head, looking behind you out the window once before looking back at him. âWhat? You want me to-?â You stopped abruptly, seeing the serious look on his face, his eyes looking straight at you, as though reading your mind.
Youâd wondered if he had that superpower a few times before, especially when you first started, which wouldâve been a nightmare seeing as at the beginning of your role here, you struggled to hold yourself up when around him. Bucky Barnes was -to put it simply- gorgeous. Everything youâd ever looked for in a man was right in front of you in the body of your boss, and if he could read minds, well youâd ruled that out seeing as you most likely wouldâve been fired by now.
Your voice lowered as a small smile made its way onto your lips, knowing it probably meant nothing, but at the same time, it meant everything to you. âIf youâd like me to, Iâd love to.â

"Gabi, this is your mother."
Gabi looked at Sofia before looking back up to Miguel as she shook her head. "No, that's not my mama." Gabi glanced up to you, something you noticed everyone in the close vicinity saw, including your parents.
"No Gabi. I'm your real mom. Not her." Sofia put on a fake smile.
Hearing the tense conversation from the kitchen Stephanie came over as she stood next to you, giving Sofia the, 'make one wrong move and I'll fight you bitch,' gaze.
"Hey Gabi, how about you go with Aunt Steph to the kitchen."
"But I want to stay with you and Papa." Gabi looked up at you with sad eyes breaking your heart.
"Mija, remember the conversation we had earlier in the living room?" Said Miguel followed by a slow nod of Gabi's head. "That conversation is going to happen now. So it can only be grownups at the moment." He added.
"We can decorate cookies in the kitchen Gabi." Said Stephanie as Gabi slowly walked over to her before taking her hand. Stephanie looked at you giving you a small hopeful smile before disappearing into the kitchen.
"I'm guessing you need to tell us something?" Said your father as he crossed his arms looking between you, Miguel and Sofia.
Sofia smirked, "wow, your parents don't know that their daughter has been fucking a man almost two decades older than her for the last few months." She chuckled, knowing full well that she just told your biggest secret the most horrible way possible.
"Sofia." Miguel snapped at her warning her to stop. But it was too late. You looked to your shocked and upset parents before scanning around the nearby people who heard the conversation.
"This was not how you were supposed to find out." You tell them.
"Backyard now." Your Father said. Your eyes widen, shocked from his angry tone. You had never heard you father speak to you like that. Not once.
"You. We're not finish yet." Miguel said to Sofia. You'd never seen Miguel give such a muderous glare to someone before, but that plus his cold tone sent a chill up your spine.
"Wasn't planning on leaving any time soon."
"And if I find out you were near our daughter while we're outside. There will be hell to pay." Miguel pointed at you when he said 'our daughter,' which made your heart melt before coming back into reality from the glare Sofia sends you from Miguel's words and you winced when you heard your mother gasp.
All four of you walked out to the backyard, farthest from the house so people can't hear.
Your parents looked at Miguel before looking back at you both upset. The awkward silence continued until your father spoke up: " you care to explain what's happening between you two?"
Miguel looked to you, noticing your panicked stars making you have a hard time to speak.
"I'm in love with your daughter and we've been together for almost five months."
"Y/n, you can't possibly be in love with a man you met only 6 months ago! How did this thing even start?! Was Tyler right? Did you cheat on him with Miguel?" Your mother said going into a rant.
"First off, I do love him, way more than I ever felt for Tyler. And I can't believe you would think I would cheat on that bastard when he cheated on me. Like I told you earlier, my relationship started after I caught Tyler cheating on me."
"Hold on." Your father said as he began to grow more upset. "The morning I came to your house and asked you where my daughter is, she was with you wasn't she? And you lied to my face when my wife and I were worried sick where she was! She's only 21 Miguel. She's too young for you."
"I'm a grown woman and responsible adult. I'll be with whoever I want to be with." You argued.
"Sam, Sarah. She's been well taken care of these past few months." Added Miguel.
"You live with each other?! Y/n when I asked you where you were living you said with Stephanie."
"I did live with Stephanie. For the first month right after I moved out of the apartment I shared with Tyler."
"So, how did this even hap-" asked your farther before being cut off by your mother, "when did you both actually meet?"
Your eyes widen, as your heart began to beat faster. Your gaze turns to Miguel before looking back at your parents pissed expressions. You knew the next few words were going to make everything way worse.
"We did only meet six months ago. But, the first time we did met was in Miami."
"You mean two years ago in Miami? When you were only 19?!"
"You had sex with my daughter when she was 19?!" Your father grew more livid, as he was about to come after Miguel. Of course Miguel would easily be able to hold his own, however you wouldn't see it happen as you step in front of your father.
"Get out of the way y/n." Your father warned you. When you didn't move a second later he grabbed you harshly by the wrist, making you wince as he nails cut into you as he pulled you away.
On instinct Miguel pushed Sam back as he grabs you by the waist and back to him. He quickly checked your wrist, anger rising on his face when he saw the already forming bruises.
"Dont you dare harm her again. We're leaving." Miguel was about to lead you back inside the house when your mother gently grabbed your non-brushed arm and said with a serious gaze,
"We'll stop paying for school. We won't pay for graduate school either, if you continue this." Said your mother, concerned etched on her face. Your eyes widen, anger coursing through your body.
"You're going to make me chose between my education and the man I love? Please don't make me do that. You know what I'm going to chose." You give Miguel's hand a squeeze knowing it would always be you and Gabi first.
"I'll pay for the rest of her education." Miguel joined in.
"That's insane. Her senior year alone will cost almost 50k for one semester. Plus forget about us helping you with your student loan debt. And that's way more than just 50k and that's just undergrad." Argued your mother, trying to scare him away.
"I can easily afford it. Money doesn't scare me away." Miguel shot back, knowing full well the intention behind her words. You looked to Miguel with a confused look before looking to your father who says, "she's too young to handle a world like that."
"Too young to handle what world? Miguel what's he talking about?"
"Mi amor, I was going to tell you soon."
"Wow, little miss perfect really is clueless." Sofia chuckled as she walked into the backyard.
"Sofia, get out. None of this concerns you." Miguel said before you stepped away from him, walking closer to her.
"Hold on, what am I so clueless about little miss bitch?" You bite back.
"I'll give you that sweetie, just because I'm such a nice person. It's kind of funny how you never thought of looking up your boyfriend. But like come on, who doesn't know about Nueva York's most successful, self-made billionaire Miguel O'Hara. And one of Nueva York's top socialite bachelors." Sofia tried to stifle her laughter when she saw your shocked expression.
Your eyes widen, a hurt expression crossed your eyes as you looked at Miguel who looked back at you with a sad and apologetic look before his gaze returned to a vicious glare back at Sofia.
"How did you even find where I lived, Sofia?"
" I found you from a tabloid Magazine of Mr. Richie rich picking up his doting girlfriend at her college. You can't possibly not have known about his wealth. You must be a really good gold digger to fool him." Sofia's words turned back to you.
"I-" You were having trouble finding words to argue back. Luckily Miguel stepped in to save you.
"You must have been oblivious not that long ago, Sofia. Because I remember our shitty relationship ending because I was too poor. And I bet the reason your back isn't for Gabi but because you also found out I have money."
"How dare you think I'm not here to see Abby."
"It's Gabi." You glare at her with a look of disgust that she couldn't remember her own daughter's name.
"Right. Well I'm not leaving anytime soon. I want time with my daughter."
"Over my dead body. You gave up all your custody rights when you abandoned her at my apartment when she was only a day old!" Miguel's voice grew slightly louder, growing more angry by the thought of Gabi being taken away from her family. You put your hand in Miguel's, your thumb gently caressing his knuckles to help calm him down.
"Maybe we should leave." You say to him, which he looked to you, gaze becoming soft as he nodded, still trying to calm down.
You both walk back into the house ignoring your parents yelling at you from the background, ignoring all the stares, and comments. You head to the kitchen as you see Gabi with Stephanie and Jack decorating cookies.
"Hey, thank you for watching her. We decided we're going to leave. I'll see you in a few days." You give Stephanie a small smile as you wipe Gabi's face off from the green frosting with a wet napkin before you pick her up in your arms. You hear your parents back inside as they call out for you, still upset. But you ignore them as you and Miguel leave.
You head to Miguel's car where everything for Christmas and staying in the city was packed. You buckle Gabi in her car seat, placing a kiss to the top of your head a smile escapes your lips as you see her yawn before you get in on the passenger side.
The entire ride to the city was in silence. You were slightly upset at Miguel for lying to you, maybe more upset since you were heartbroken by your parent's heartless reaction about your relationship with Miguel.
Miguel entered a large driveway to a luxurious apartment complex, where a man in doorman uniform came to the window with a welcoming smile. "Good evening Mr. O'Hara. Would you like the car parked?"
"Yes, thank you. Also could you have the things in the trunk sent up to my apartment?"
"Of course, sir."
You and Miguel got out of the car, you grabbed your purse as Miguel carried a now sleeping Gabi in his arms. He handed the young man a $100 tip before he guided you inside the modern apartment complex. Walking inside you were greeted by someone friendly at the front desk.
"Good evening Mr. O'Hara. Welcome back." To which Miguel nodded and smiled to the person in response.
When you entered the elevator Miguel pressed a fob key to a scanner, before the elevator began to move up. You noticed there were no buttons for levels, which you thought was interesting. Your gaze met his, as you saw that he wanted to say something but decided against it.
After a few minutes the elevator stopped and opened up to a vast and nice entry way. When you stepped outside and turned the corner your eyes widen by the massive penthouse. Your gaze quickly switched from the nice interior decoration to the gorgeous night skyline of Nueva York. Maybe if your heart didn't ache you would have enjoyed seeing this view for the first time.
"CariĂąo, I put Gabi in her bedroom. I know there's a lot we need to talk about. But first I want to say I'm so sorry that I didn't say anything about who I was I-" you turned to face him with a small smile as you interrupted him.
"Miguel, you don't need to give me an excuse. It's your money. Maybe I was a bit naive, as you do have two properties plus you bought one upstate. But I just thought you did really well at your job at Alchemax. Did I expect you to be a billionaire? No. But that doesn't change anything between us. I guess what maybe it hurt a bit. The reason why you didn't mention it was maybe you didn't fully trust me yet. Like maybe what Sofia said about me being a gold digger, maybe you were waiting to see if I was one or not. Or maybe that's just my insecurities consuming my mind. And I'm not even upset. I'm more upset at myself that for even a minute that I was upset at you for it. But I'm not. I just think with my parents reaction and Gabi's mom coming to the party unexpectedly I just didn't know where to put my emotions and I'm sorry."
You look up at him with tears in your eyes, trying to hold them in. But a second later you couldn't hold them much longer as they poured down your cheeks faster than you could wipe them away. You felt arms wrap around you, pulling you against him into a hug, as he brushed the hair out of your face as well as wiping away your tears.
"I hate to see you this way, mi amor. It breaks my heart when you're hurting like this. You don't need to apologize, at all." He lifted your chin lovingly as he added, "I have always trusted you. Since day one I have always thought of you as a kind and loving person. Even with the slight knowledge that I do well, I never thought of you as a gold digger. That's just Sofia, trying to get into your head. She is a gold digger not you. Also, you are Gabi's mom not Sofia. I might have said that at the moment, cause I just was in shock at the party. At the moment the words to explain how she biologically is her mother was not coming to my mind. You are Gabi's mom. Gabi see's you as her mom and I see you as her mom, as well as the love of my life. And I think we should explain it to her tomorrow morning. And I'm sorry that your parents reacted like that. I knew that they might have been a bit upset, but I didn't think they would act so cruel. But they aren't your only family. Gabi and I are your family just as much as they are. And as your family and your boyfriend I will pay for the rest of your education."
"Miguel... no. I can figure it out on my own. It's my responsibility. And I will find a better part time job to help pay for the rest of college and I will set up a payment plan with my loans. Most people do this."
"CariĂąo, I can't just stand to the side and let you struggle with debt. Please let me help you." You get out of his embrace, looking up at him slightly annoyed that he won't take no for an answer.
"Are we really going to get in an argument over this?"
"We won't because I'll pay for it."
"Miguel, please just let this one go. Please." You look up at him with pleading eyes, to which he let out a sigh, deciding to let it go for now. He pulled you into another embrace leaning in to place a kiss to your lips which you happily returned. After the kiss you stay in each other's arms, trying to forget all of the stress and worries from tonight.
"Mama, Papa."
You and Miguel turned to see Gabi from the hallway in her Pjs and holding her favorite stuffed Bunny in her arms.
"Oh Baby bug, what are you doing up so late? We thought you were asleep." You say and you and Miguel walk over to her as he picks her up in his arms. You brush some of the curls out of her face and behind her ear.
"I couldn't go back to sleep. And I heard you crying mama and I wanted to give you a hug to make you feel better." Said Gabi as she pouted, not liking the thought that you were sad. You took Gabi into your arms as you gave her a big hug and a kiss on the top of her head.
"I'm sorry if I woke you. I'm alright though, but thank you for your hug. It helped a lot." You smiled which made Gabi's pout turn into a grin as she wrapped her arms around your neck, "I love you mama."
"I love you too my baby bug. Now let's get you back to bed."

Itâs for the good of the project.
Or, at least, thatâs what youâve been telling yourself since the moment you woke up, fully aware of the hell today is going to be. In Director Bangâs infinite wisdom, the solution to âbuilding chemistryâ is forcing you to spend your free time with the devil incarnate himself.
Youâre waiting outside of the art cafĂŠ Hyunjin texted the address for and itâs almost 11:00am. He was supposed to be here at 10:30. Your stomach grumbles, clearly upset. Maybe you shouldnât have skipped breakfast. But eating was the last thing on your mind.
You start typing out a text just as a car pulls up to the curb. The rear passenger door opens and Hyunjin steps out with a lavender box in his hands.
Heâs dressed in baggy jeans, a gray hoodie, a dark blue baseball cap and a pair of sunglasses. The hood is pulled upâadding to his incognito appearance. Itâs a subtle reminder of his fame level and how he has to dress to avoid being sighted. Especially with a female.
âYouâre late,â you say by way of greeting.
âI had to make a stop,â is his cavalier response.
âThen you should have left earlier.â
He holds the box out toward you and lifts the lid. You eye the flaky, golden pastries suspiciously.
âA peace offering.â
Your stomach grumbles again and you debate whether or not to take oneâbut you are starving. As you reach inside, he snatches the box back and shuts the lid.
âSay you forgive me first,â he taunts as you glare at him.
Youâre still searching for a way to move past your disdain for him. You need to find some redeemable qualities within him. And heâs just proven heâs not above bribery, which isnât a good look.
âLetâs just go inside,â you shoot back.
The smell of paint, clay, and espresso hits you as soon as you walk in. Itâs quaint, with small round tables and shelves of half-finished ceramics lining the walls. Aside from the workers, the entire space is empty.
ây/n, Mr. Hwang, weâre happy to have you today,â a staff member greets. âPlease, take a seat and weâll get started.â
You and Hyunjin sit beside each other, two plain clay mugs on the table with several brushes between them. The staff member brings out a variety of paints, two cups of water, and paper towels.
âYouâll have the room to yourselves, but please let us know if you have any music requests.â
âR&B,â Hyunjin says. âSlow and sensual.â
You glance over at him, feeling something between disgust and annoyance, and catch the playful smile he shoots the employee. She blushes and scurries away.

âEat,â he says, sitting back upright.
You finally exhale as he picks up his mug, turning it around in his hands. You (begrudgingly) grab a pastry from the box while he studies the mug like he sees something you donât.
âSo, you forgive me?â he asks offhandedly as you take a bite of the pastry, his eyes never leaving the mug.
You donât even bother trying to be dainty and just polish it off in a few bites.
âI like sugar. You just happen to be the delivery system.â
He chuckles and sets the mug back on the table. âAlright, so what are we painting? Something to represent the show?â
âDo whatever you want,â you say, picking up the smock on the table and draping it over your shoulders.
You grab the two straps to tie behind your back, but before you can register whatâs happening, Hyunjinâs hands find your hips. You tense up as he turns you on the stool to face away from him, then gently takes the straps from your hands and ties them together.
The smoothness of the gesture and the light music playing in the background cause your mind to slip to a place where it doesnât belong for a second, but you call it right back. Â
âAll set,â he says, his hands brushing your hips again as he turns you back to face the table.

âDonât worry, I can do my own,â he says sarcastically as you begin painting.
You choose not to respond. You donât know what heâs playing at. Sure, youâre supposed to be getting more comfortable with each other, but that doesnât mean he has to act the part of a romantic interest right now.
As you quietly work side by side, you glance over at him occasionally, but your brush stills when you catch the look on his face. Heâs completely zoned in, brows drawn as he guides the brush with practiced ease. His hand moves with precisionâconfident, steady, almost graceful. You hate to admit it, but thereâs something mesmerizing about the way he works and he seems far less like an arrogant prick right now.
You snap yourself out of the trance and return to your disgraceful mug, dabbing more paint onto it.
âWhatâs the cost to rent this place out, by the way?â
âHmm?â He asks, focused on his mug.
âWeâre splitting it 50/50. Whatâs the cost?â
âThe studio picked up the tab,â he says offhandedly.
Thatâs a relief. Youâre not exactly rolling in the dough yet.
An hour and minimal small talk later, your mug looks like itâs been through several emotional breakdowns while his looks like it could be sold in a boutique.
âAre you kidding me?â you stare at his masterpieceâan intricate koi fish with neat black linework for the scales. âHow did you do that so fast?â
He shrugs. âIâm good with my hands.â
You ignore the double meaning, frowning down at your own mug. It was supposed to be a mountain landscape, but itâs just a mess of grass and sky with no real definition. Before you can protest, Hyunjin sets his mug down and grabs yours. You watch as he worksâthat same concentrated face, warm brown eyes focused, brush tapping paint, tongue caught between his teeth.
âJust needs a little clarity,â he says, dipping into the green. âSome separation. Depth.â
âWhat, are you Bob Ross, or something?â
âNo mistakesâjust happy little accidents.â You snort, rolling your eyes. âNot quite a laugh, but Iâll take it. Baby steps.â
âBaby steps to what?â
He doesnât answer right away. When heâs done, he sets your mug in front of you. In just a few minutes, heâs salvaged your disaster into something almost good.
âBaby steps to you falling in love with me.â He pauses. âWell, not you, but the innkeeper, I guess.â
You dunk your brushes into the water with a dramatic splash.
âJust so weâre clear,â you say, wiping your hands on a towel, âthis whole day of bonding is for the show. For our characters. Itâs not a truce, so you can stop pretending to be a nice guy.â
He leans back, twirling the brush between his fingers. âAre you always this defensive, or is it just meâ
âItâs just youâwith your tardiness and pastries and thinking youâre so charming.â
âI am charming.â
You snort again. âYouâre lucky youâre pretty.â
Itâs not too much of an admission, itâs basically a fact to anyone with working eyes. Hell, even the blind could agree just by touching his face. But your reply shuts him up for a beat. You catch the flicker of surprise in his eyes before he recovers with a smile.
âYou think Iâm pretty?â
You stand and grab the mug he saved from total destruction. âDonât flatter yourself,â you call over your shoulder on the way to the drying rack.
As youâre cleaning up, the staff hands each of you a paper ticket with your initials scrawled on it. Your mugs will be ready for pickup in a week, but you make a mental note to never return for it.
Outside, the warm, late-spring air hits your skin like a much-needed refresher. Â
âLetâs send a picture to Chan.â Hyunjin says, pulling out his phone before clarifying, âI mean Director Bang. Weâre on a first name basis.â
Youâve already been told you could call him that, too, so his statement just makes you roll your eyes.
âAre you always so full of yourself?â
âHow do you think I made it this far?â He grins. âWeâll do a selfie. But you gotta sell itâdonât make me carry this whole relationship.â
You blink. âRelationship?â
âFor the show. For the director. Calm down.â
âIâm calm,â you snapâdefinitely not calm.

You have to get control of that, quickly, if this is going to work.
âCome here,â he says, angling his phone up.
He places his hand around your waist, turning you until the art cafĂŠ is visible in the background. Your breath hitches at the closeness. Instinctively, you deflectâcommenting on the lighting, the angle. He adjusts everything until youâre satisfied.
âLean into me,â he says.
âThis is good enough.â
He reaches around you with his other hand and lowers your head until itâs resting on his chest. You sigh, force a smile, and bring a hand up to rest on his stomach. He winks at you through the camera before snapping the picture. When he lowers his phone, you both lookâitâs annoyingly cute. But more importantly, it doesnât seem like you hate each other.
The rest of the afternoon is spent wandering through a nearby park and itâsâŚsurprisingly tolerable. Hyunjin insists on stopping at every cherry blossom tree, to analyze and photograph it, and youâre pretty sure heâs doing it just to mess with you. Somewhere between debating the best recently released films and dodging a group of his teenage fans who might have recognized him, thereâs a momentâbrief and quietâwhen the conversation and laughter doesnât feel forced or catty.
But the easy rhythm between you falters when Hyunjinâs phone buzzes. He glances at it, jaw tightening just slightly. When it buzzes again, he sighs and finally answers it.
You watch the change happen in real timeâthe way his gaze shifts, the lightness in his features slipping away.
âShit. I have to go,â he says after a pause. âSomething came up.â
âSeriously? I cleared my entire day for this.â
âI didnât ask you to.â He says plainly, as if thatâs all the response you deserve, and more on par with the Hyunjin you remember.
You blink. Of course he didnât. Why would he? People probably move mountains for him without being asked.
He rubs the back of his neck, clearly realizing how that sounded. âThatâs notâI mean, I appreciate it. I justâitâs work.â
âThis is work, too,â you remind him before sighing and shaking your head. âAlright. Go.â
His brow furrows, and for a second, it looks like he might argueâor apologize. But then he exhales instead, letting the moment pass.
WEEK 2
The next few days are a blur of list making, packing, and triple-checking your essentials. Youâre leaving your cozy Seoul apartment behind for a hotel near the filming site in Gyeongju.
The train ride takes nearly four hours. From the station, itâs another thirty-minute drive, winding through hills and quiet villages before you arrive at the hotel. You see Han and Minho in the lobby when you check in and are happy to learn your rooms are on the same floor. Your fear of being on your own here for the next ten weeks slowly starts to dissipate.
âRumor has it Hyunjin got the presidential suite on the top floor, though,â Han says.
Of course. Heâs here too. In the presidential suite, no less.
That tracks.
âYou guys doing anything tonight?â Minho asks. âWant to grab dinner?â
You smile and nod. âIâll come back down after I put my stuff away.â
After checking in, you ride up the elevator to your floor. Your room, although not a presidential suite, is still quite largeâmore than you were expecting, really. Itâs essentially a one-bedroom apartment with a small kitchen, dining area and living room.
You meet back up with Han and Minho in the lobby before heading out to explore the surrounding area and finding a place to eat. You notice how comfortable they are with each other, as if theyâve been acquainted for some time.
âHave you two worked together before?â you ask as youâre seated for hotpot.
âNo,â Minho replies. âBut we went to acting school together.â
âHe really used to hate me,â Han says.
âWho says I still donât?â
âYou two are going to be fun to work with,â you laugh.
âWeâll make your day, every day,â Han grins.
You fall into casual conversation with them as you cook the food, but decline when they order a round of soju.
âI have my first day of filming tomorrow,â you tell them.
âYou looking forward to working with such a big star?â Han asks.
You shrug. âIâm just happy to have the gig.â
Dislike for Hyunjin aside, you donât want to go around bad mouthing your co-star. You want things on set to run as smoothly as possible for everyone involved.
âNot thrilled or elated?â Minho digs. âThe scenes youâre filming with him? I bet other actresses would give anything for the chance to lock lips with the Hwang Hyunjin.â
âThatâs just part of the job,â you reply.
âWeâll check back in after you film that and ask again,â Minho wiggles his eyebrows.
The three of you round out the night stopping at a few nearby stores to pick up groceries. You didnât have time to check the kitchen, but they advise you that all standard cooking utensils (pots, pans, cutlery, etc.) are provided.
Itâs 9:00pm when you make it back to the hotel.
âThanks for letting me tag along today.â
âAny time,â Han says, standing a couple doors down in front of his own room.
âGoodnight,â Minho waves, swiping his key card and disappearing into his room.
You put your groceries away and hop in the shower before climbing into bed. Your body immediately relaxes into the mattress, but it takes a while for your brain to finally shut off. And even then, you wake up throughout the night, worried about missing the alarm for your first day.
The next morning, youâre dressed, caffeinated, and as ready as youâll ever be when a black van pulls up to the front of the hotel at 7:30am to take you to set. As the inn comes into view, you roll down the back window, staring out in awe.
Nestled against the soft silhouette of distant mountains, the inn looks like it stepped straight out of a period drama. Itâs hanok-style architectureâwith sloping tiled roofs, warm wooden beams, and latticed windowsâfeels timeless. Stone steps lead through a manicured lawn, past clusters of boulders, giving the whole place a sense of calm, intentional design.
You sit through an hour of hair and makeup, skimming over the script out of habit, even though youâve memorized your lines. You can still hear Chanâs voice in your head, the doubt that poured out of him after watching you and Hyunjin attempt that first scene.
You donât want to let him down. You canât.
You take your mark behind the front desk of the inn, dressed in a prim little uniform befitting a small-town innkeeper. Your posture is stiff and youâre starting to get antsy, looking at the timeâyour co-star is still nowhere to be seen.
Of course.
Eventually, Seungmin jogs over, lowering his headset. âHyunjin will enter when Chan calls action. You wonât look up until heâs right at the desk.â
You nod once. âGot it.â
âYou ready, y/n?â Chanâs voice booms from across the room.
You offer a quick thumbs up, trying to shake off the anxiety. Roll call beginsâlights, camera, audio, and you close your eyes to steady yourself. And when you open them, you are herâthe innkeeper.
You keep your gaze glued to the blank computer screen, fingers tapping at the keys that donât do anything. Movement flickers in your peripheralsâa figure entering the frame. Your hand shifts to a stack of guest paperwork. He moves closer. You can feel him.
Then finallyâa throat clears.
You lift your head. And freeze.
Hyunjin.
With a buzz cut.
Youâd forgotten about his characterâs change in appearanceâshaving his head to avoid recognition while in hiding.
Your stomach drops straight through the floor.
Fuck. He looks good.
Heâs all clean lines, sharp jaw, eyes as dark and intense as ever. The bad-boy aesthetic works on him a little too well. You hate how much you like it.
You force a neutral expression, pushing away that very real reaction.
âWelcome to the Willowbrook Inn,â you say.âDo you have a reservation?â
He delivers his lines with just the right edgeâsarcasm and arrogance lacing every word. You meet him blow for blow with contempt as the script calls for. But it feels effortless on both sides.
âThereâs no master suite to upgrade to? Whereâs the owner?â he demands.
âYouâre looking at her,â you say flatly.
His jaw goes slack, his stare intense enough to make your heart start beating faster, even though this moment isnât real.
âFine. Iâll take the room,â he grumbles.
âCut,â Chan calls. âGreat tension. Letâs go again for coverage.â
Your chest rises and falls, your pulse elevated. You allow yourself a small smile at Chanâs praise.
Hyunjin approaches, eyes warm with something like camaraderie. âYou okay? You lookedâŚsurprised.â
You glance pointedly at his buzzed head. âItâs like the first time you see a hairless cat. A little jarring.â
He gives you a mock-offended look but says nothing before Seungmin calls everyone back to position.
During the lunch break, Jeongin shows you to your trailer now that itâs ready. Itâs about the same size as Hyunjinâs with similar wood paneling. Thereâs a small gray sofa as soon as you step inside that pulls out into a small bed. A kitchenetteâno stove unlike Hyunjinâs, you note. And in the back, instead of a bed, there are two more gray sofas opposite each other with yellow throw pillows. Itâs still cozy enough. And you do have your own private bathroom, so thatâs something.
After lunch, you move on to your second scene with Hyunjinâthis time, outside of Jae-hoonâs room.
He opens the door and there you are, holding a stack of towels.
He stares at them in disapproval.
âNo. I meant better ones. These are the same as whatâs already in the room.â
You scoff. âThey dry your body, donât they?â
âCan you get Turkish Cotton?â
âWhere do you think you are right now?â You ask. âYou think you can just demand whatever you want and Iâll procure it with a snap of my fingers? This is my inn, not your playground.â
âAnd yet,â he replies smoothly, âhere I am. You should be thanking me for the opportunity, really.â
âThe opportunity to commit a crime?â
âIs that a threat?â He narrows his eyes.
âMight be a promise.â You all but shove the towels into his chest. âDinner is at seven.â
âIâll be served in my room, thank you.â
âYouâll be served in the dining hall. Thank you.â
He steps closer, towering over you with a smirk. âYou have no idea who youâre talking to.â
The line throws you. Your heart stutters. Thatâs not in the script.
But itâs spot on for both Jae-hoon and Hyunjin.
You hesitate, just for a second, before you snap back. âYeah, I do. A jerk who needs to lower his ego.â
âCut,â Chan calls. âLove the improv. Weâll reset for Hyunjinâs over-the-shoulder shot.â
Hyunjin sets the towels on a table and puts down the doorstop to hold it open. The hair and makeup team move in to do quick touch-ups. As they work, he leans against the doorframe, arms crossed.
âReally felt like you meant that last line.â
You donât miss a beat. âDid I hurt your feelings?â
âNo. Lucky for you, I think youâre funny.â
You raise your eyebrow, skeptical that he thinks anything of you.
He grins. âWe need to reschedule the rest of our afternoon.â
âYou mean the one you bailed on?â
His grin fades just slightly. âYou still upset about that?â
âYou canât be upset by someone when you already expect them to let you down.â
âOuch.â He studies you a little too long, then takes a step back and hands you the towels again. âFor the record, I think we could be good friends for the duration of this shoot.â
âFriends? What are we, twelve-year-olds?â
He laughs loudly as he moves the doorstop and shuts the door to start to restart the scene.
You settle into your film schedule and get more comfortable working with the cast and crew in the days that follow. On Thursday, after wrapping, you change out of your costume then head back to set to meet the intimacy coordinator.
Youâre experiencing so many firsts with this project, but you take it all in stride. The purpose of the coordinator is to talk you through the motions and make sure no boundaries are crossed. Youâre taking this whole process seriously, so you hope that he is to.
However, as you scan the set you see that heâs late. Again. He clearly doesnât care about punctuality. Or value anyoneâs time. It reminds you that he hasnât really changed since you last worked together.
You sigh. You just want to focus on the job and doing this role justice. Not on Hyunjin and the fact that you have to go through all of this with him in particular. Heâs infuriating. Charming. And then infuriating again. He needs to pick one thing so you can figure out how to handle him.
All youâd like is a little more consistency.
Ten more minutes pass before he arrives, casually slipping in through a side entrance.
âYou really donât like being on time, do you?â You donât bother to mask your irritation.
The intimacy coordinator interrupts, offering a gentle buffer. âWeâre just getting started. No worries. Letâs talk through the emotional beats before we get physical.â
Everyone just brushes off his unprofessional behavior because he is the Hwang Hyunjin.
You stand away from each other, as if COVID distancing is still in effect, while the coordinator walks you through the scene. Your character is in the midst of confronting his about the way heâs treating your staff. A storm starts to rage outside. The windows in the lobby have all been left open, and the sudden downpour puts the interior at risk. Your character rushes to shut them; Jae-hoon joins herâ
You glance at Hyunjin as the coordinator continues. Heâs got that focused look on his face again. Not the usually cocky maskâsomething quieter. Serious. His professionalism helps you relax, just a little.
âThe last window is stuck, and your character struggles with it, rain soaking her as she fights to close it. Jae-hoon comes up behind her, covering her back with his body as he uses his strength to pull the window shut. When itâs finally closed, she turnsâand he doesnât move. His arms are braced on either side of her, hand still pressed to the window. In the silence, thereâs tension. Vulnerability. And then a near-kiss, interrupted by a crack of thunder.
Sounds easy enough.
But when itâs time to block the scene and you step into place, your pulse ticks faster. You face the window. Hyunjin moves behind you.
He isnât even touching you, but his presence is magnetic.
âYou okay with me moving my hands here after I take them off the window?â he asks, voice low beside your ear. His hands hover near your waist.
You nod. âThatâs fine.â
âLetâs take it from the top,â the coordinator says.
You run through the scene. The coordinator calls out adjustments as you go.
âHyunjin, youâre a little too far away. This is going to be a cowboy shot. So we need chest contact to sell the intimacy. Hips can stay back. Itâll feel awkward, but it wonât look awkward. Weâre not shooting below the waist.â
Hyunjin nods and steps closer. You feel his chest against your back and tense up.
âTell me if anything makes you uncomfortable, okay?â His voice, soft and caring, is now even closer, and sends a shiver down your spine.
âYeah. Okay,â you reply, forcing yourself to stay focused. Thatâs not his usual charm. That sounded genuine.
You start from the top, both of you pretending to struggle with the stuck window.
âAnd itâs shut. y/n, turn to face him.â The coordinator instructs.
You doâand your breath catches. Heâs already looking down at you.
Your eyes are drawn to the tiny freckle beneath his left eye, and then down, down, down to that perfectly sculpted mouth.
The one youâve wondered what it will be like to kiss when the time comes.
He doesnât touch you yet. His arms are on either side of you, braced against the window.
Your eyes lift to meet his, and just like that, the set disappears. The lights, the coordinator, the others in the room setting up for tomorrowâgone. Itâs just him. Just you.
Thereâs no dialogue, so the silence stretches.
But you donât want to cower under his gaze.
Something shifts when his eyes drop to your mouth this time, just for a second.
His hands fall from the wall to your waist, and if your heart was racing before, now itâs tripping over itself.
Thunder cracks somewhere in the distanceâyour sound cueâand it genuinely startles you.
Hyunjin doesnât break character. He wraps one arm around you. His other hand slides up your back to your head (a gesture that will surely be captured via close-ups on the actual day of filming), and presses your head against his chest, anchoring you to him. Holding you like its instinct. Like this is real.
And even though you know itâs notâŚyour body doesnât. You relax into him.
âGood. Letâs go again from the turn,â the coordinator says, breaking the moment.
You blink and step back.
Hyunjin lets go. Clears his throat. Nods at the direction.
But his gaze lingers for just a second too long. Like he felt it, too.

august 13th, 6:57pm, Coopersburg, PA.
the babble of the creek beneath you, the squeaking of the tire swing, and the birds chirping created a melody, sweeter than any song billie had written before. and mixed with the sound of your sweet giggles, billie was sure she was in heaven.
the sun was starting to drift under the horizon giving the sky a gorgeous coral hue, mixed with a hint of violet and navy, but not too dark yet. the air was warm, like a fluffy blanket straight out of the dryer.
âbillie!! youâre going too high!! iâm too scared to jump!!â you squealed, giggling furiously. your braids billie had done for you earlier flew behind you as billie pushed the swing again, sending you higher, making you feel like you were flying amongst the trees.
billie grabbed the rope, slowing down the swing so she could be level with you again. you looked over at her before grabbing her arm and pulling her closer, before sealing the gap between you with a kiss. billie wrapped her arms around your waist, melting into your arms, only pulling away when you both smiled into the kiss. you tasted like the sweet tea you had been drinking, your mason jar now sat forgotten on a rock nearby.
âhi mama,â she whispered onto her lips, making you blush furiously and scrunch your nose. she pecked your nose before maneuvering you on the swing so she could sit too, pulling you onto her lap. one arm draped around your waist and the other holding the swings rope.
âbaby can i talk to you about something?â billie started, a nervous edge to her voice. you turned your head, a curious yet concerned look in your eye, nodding for her to continue.
âhow umm⌠how are your parents lately?â she held her breath waiting for you to answer.
your parents. how you loved them dearly.. until they stopped loving you. they said they still did, but their words and actions and beliefs said differently.
a few years back you had innocently asked your mom about how she knew she liked boys. your mom just looked at you funny, saying that every girl likes boys⌠thereâs no question about it. thatâs how god made girls. girls grow up and fall in love with boys, and become wives, and mothers, and thatâs how it goes.
sensing her edge you backed off, retreating to your room that night feeling more confused than ever. if you werenât supposed to like girls⌠then why did you feel this way?? why did your heart beat faster around them, and why do your hands get so sweaty near them, and why do you get nauseous thinking about being a manâs wife one day, but melt into a puddle thinking about being a womanâs wife one dayâŚ.
falling in love with a woman, sleeping next to a woman, holding her, touching her, kissing her, making love to herâŚ. walking down the aisle to her, holding her hand while bringing your babies into the world with her, raising those children with her, growing old with herâŚ
as you got older it became harder to hide. it was obvious to anyone with eyes. especially after you met billie. i mean who wouldnât fall in love with her?
youâre parents found out about you and billie when they caught you kissing one night out back. you had told them that you two were gonna go look at stars, and planets, and you did⌠just the ones in her eyes instead of the sky.
because they âstill had love for you,â they sent billie home and had a long talk with you about your choices. and though you donât try to recall them, youâll never forget the things your parents said to you that night. you hid in your room and called billie panicking. you didnât want to love anyone else, you couldnâtâŚ
so you and billie continued dating in secret. only meeting up in secret locations and having perfect alibis if your parents caught on. while you still lived at home, and luckily your parents didnât suspect a thing, you cried every night. you wanted so badly to escape, to be free from them. to be freeâŚ
âumm.. theyâre good i guess. getting older sooo you know. theyâre getting weird with me growing up and all that i guess. iâm looking forwards to moving out one day though.â billie nodded and gave your waist a squeeze before setting her chin on your shoulder.
you let out a watery laugh, âmy mom keeps trying to set me up with all the church guys. even if i wasnât gay theyâre sooo just not cute.â billie raised her eyebrows and laughed with you.
âreally? and what do you find cute missy?â billie teased. you played this game a lot. one of you would describe what you wanted in a girlfriend⌠and it was just you describing the other.
âwellllllll, i love a girl whoâs kind and funny, and she would have these big blue eyes, like little sea crystals, and dark hair that compliments her skin so perfectly. and the cutest little button nose you could ever imagine, and itâs decorated with teensy little freckles. and she would have pink pillowy lips that are impossible not to kiss. ooh and if she could have little dimples that would be a great bonus. WAIT omg and she would sing.â you finished with a smile that said âta da!!â billie smiled back, cheeks flushed before kissing your own cheek.
âmmm i love you to the moon billie eilish pirate baird oâconnell,â you sighed, leaning back into her.
âand i love you to saturn y/f/n y/m/n oâconnell,â she murmured back, nose grazing your jaw. you sat back up in shock, turning to face her with the biggest smile on your face. you were totally speechless though, trying to get out a thought.

âi think you should come live with me⌠and we could be pirates,â she added playfully.
âthen you wonât have to cry⌠or hide in the closet,â she said softly. your smile faltered a bit, not in disappointment but in shock. you knew billieâs family loved you, and you were old enough to be on your own.
âreally?â you whispered. billie nodded with a small smile.
ârun away with me lovey. pack your jellycats and a sweater. weâll move you away from there forever.â
you practically pounced onto her, kissing her so fiercely.
âwe canât tell anyone. other than your family of course.â
âcross my heart, wonât tell no other.â billie promised, crossing over her heart with her finger.

you and billie were laid out among the weeds in the grass, billie sat with her hands behind her, while your back was to her front, sitting in between her legs.
âyou know, i still remember hiding in that field back in PA. i can still picture you in the trees⌠high in the sky on that old swing.â
you hummed a small laugh, closing your eyes at the memory. your little hiding spot all those years ago. you now both lay in a similar spot, near your home in LA. after living with Billieâs family for a few years, the two of you moved out together to your own place.
âmama!!â you opened your eyes at the little voice.
âmama look!! im a pirate!!â your little baby boy, not so little anymore, had one of billie bandanas tied on his head and a stick in his hand as his sword. he showed off his best pirate poses making you and billie giggle.
âbuddy you are the best pirate out there!!â billie said to him, fixing the much too big bandana on his little head.
âdo you think sissy will wanna be a pirate?â he asked, tilting his head to the side.
your hand went to your baby bump where âsissyâ resided.
âyou know buddy, iâm not sure yet. but iâm sure she would love to,â you said, softly caressing his little face. he smiled before running back to his spot, continuing his pirate adventure.
as the two of you watched your little boy play around, billie leaned down to press kisses to your cheek, your eyes closing in total bliss, and she brought her own hand to your growing bump.
âi love you to the moon mrs. oâconnell,â she whispered into your ear. the name still making you blush after all this time.
âand i love you to saturn.â

Gojo wasnât used to going on a mission without Geto. That much was for sure when he kept looking over at you as you both walked along the street. And while he was focused on you, youâre focus was on your phone. Your brow furrowed as you followed the directions that were provided to you both.
âWe almost there?â
Gojo didnât bother checking the location, deciding to leave that job to you. The new girl. Not that he felt too bad about it because he felt that at the end of the day, he was probably going to be taking care of all the cursed spirits anyway. Even if everyone claimed that you had good control over your technique now.
You looked at him then and sent him a small smile, âyes, we just need to take two more rights and we should be there.â
He felt his heart thunder loud in his chest when you looked at him, the feeling was so .. foreign, he wanted to get rid of it.
âTwo rights huh?â
When he couldnât immediately push down the feeling, he did the next best thing. Ignore it, âso that means if I cut through here, then Iâll be there-â
âDonât you mean we-â
Your voice was already far left behind him as he used one of his techniques, looking down at you from where he hovered in the air, he smirked as he watched your eyes just about pop out of there sockets, âmeet ya there, ok,â he yelled down.
Panicking as he disappeared, you took a quick look around and was greatly relieved that no one else was on the street to have witnessed your classmate literally flying up in the air.
âRemember to put up the veil, Gojo tends to forget and is reckless. Be sure not to end up like him,â Yagaâs voice rang in your ears as your panicked state increased tenfold as you turned on your heel and started to sprint down the street. You heard rumors that Gojo was a wildcard, but you didnât think he was going to do this!
By the time you got there, your chest heaving and your breath getting slightly caught in your throat, Gojo was already finished. His hands were behind his head as he whistled to himself when he sauntered out of the abandoned building.
âAh! There you are! I was wondering when you would get here.â
By the looks of it, Gojo hadnât put up a veilâŚ
âGojoâŚâ
âWhatâs with that voice,â he asked with a laugh, âI took care of the cursed spirit, so you should be-â
You shook your head, âI know⌠I know Iâm not strong like how you are, but weâre supposed to be a team. I want you to rely on me. Even if itâs for something as stupid as putting up a veil.â
Gojo, feeling his neck start to get hot like it had earlier today, scoffed at you, âI donât need your help, and I donât need to rely on you either.â
He walked passed you, and to hide how his hands were both sweaty and shaky, he stuffed them into his pockets, âIâm heading back to the school.â
Looking at him, your confidence shattered once again, you nodded to him, âa- alright⌠Iâll meet you there later.â
He paid no more mind to you as he left. His heartrate seeming to finally die down the farther he got from you. When he first met you that morning, he couldnât quite place the nervous feeling when he looked at you, and he refused to think about it further.
âRely on me?â
He didnât need to do that. Not now, not ever.
As for you, despite your shattered confidence, you wondered how you could possibly get someone like Gojo Satoru to rely on you. If such a feat could even be possible, you didnât know, but you were willing to try.
