Another bonus to learning a fiber art is being able to speak to others in a Lovecraftian language that nobody else understands...
...and also being able to read things like THIS:
#art#crochet#fiber art#described images#image description in alt#used a crochet pattern for this because it's just INSANE#see i can recognize some of these stitch markings but i haven't done them all yet#i actually kind of prefer the diagram pattern because it actually shows you the shape and the way stitches compliment the piece#with a 'normal' pattern (e.g. 1 dc in fifth ch from hook ch 2 4 dc) i understand it sure but. it isn't the same.#i was reading somebodys recommendations for tapestry yarn and understood all the abbreviations and what they mean#plus i feel like diagrams can be a great way to teach you not only how stitches look but how they contribute to the larger piece#one of my crochet proficiency goals is to be able to look at a piece and know instantly what made it#*cue me at the store analyzing a crochet piece so i can replicate it for 5× the cost*#if you're selling a crocheted piece for like $20 then it's my imperative to replicate it and not buy it 🫡#i think that has the same moral implication as like... 'proplifting'#did crochet as the example because thats what i do as a fiber art. if theres a similar thing for knit/weave/ect then DROP IT BELOW I BEG YO#i want to learn all the lovecraftian languages of the fiber artists <3#i feel like describing the image in exactly what stitch marking indicates what would have been too much so hopefully the explanation as to..#...what the diagram DOES and how it visually indicates a pattern was helpful <3

slowly. but surely. cleaning out. my fucking room.
#theres just. a lot of stuff 😭😭😭😭😭#part of it is simply furniture and organising (i lost a bookshelf in the move and im realising#that if i still had it/one then a lot of stuff wouldnt be on the ground)#but. a not insignificant part i simply need to get rid of#if it were easy as throwing it away thats one thing...#but like. eg. i have so so much fabric. i cant throw that shit out but what do i do with it??? 😭😭😭😭#and so so much yarn...#which im already trying to use up but all thats done is having me leave half done projects lying around💀#kind of accepted i probably wont be making paper again so getting rid of a lot of paper scraps#might repurpose the box id been using to store the papermaking stuff...#there is just a LOT#but even cleaning/tidying small parts is good... oughhhh#you might wonder. what finally brought u to actually starting to clean.#the answer is. have been killing roaches#so one. too many fucking places for them to hide#two. my dad was planning on fumigating and its probably better to have a room thats easier to move things around#also re things like fabric like i KNOW theres options eg donating. selling. fabric swap or whatever#but thats EFFORT to actually set up 💀#anyways discovering brand new places i didnt know existed on fb marketplace

TODAY I got my blood stolen so they can test it, picked up my meds, went to the Craft store I'm going to consign with so I could ask a few more questions and such, AND went to city hall to inquire on the community garden so hopefully I can take it over. And it's only 2pm.
#i dont think im mentally ill anymore!!#could a mentally ill person do this??#its been a whole day already#went to the doctor. i used to be scared of getting my blood drawn cuz of blood and needles but now im fine with it#after that picked up my meds cuz ive been unmedicated for far too long#then i went to a thrift store but they didnt have what i was looking for which was sad#then i ate lunch#THEN i went to the craft store im going to sell my stuff at and met the woman ive been texting with and got questions answered#and bought some yarn because i am weak and it was pretty colors#then i went to city hall#because theres a community garden in the area that hasnt been operational for years#and i love gardens and doing things so i wanted to inquire about who runs it and if i can be that person#they said no one runs it and they seemed delighted that i want to be the one#so they took my name and number and the parks and rec guy us going to call me once hes out of a meeting#which is fantastic. very excited to maybe run a community garden#now im back home and im going to knit so i have stuff to sell at the craft store#and just wait for the oarks and rec guy to call me#thats wild. i have a good job. a space to sell my art. maybe a community garden#i think this is what life is supposed to be

first wip shot! this is my first time sculpting a human face so it’s a good start, but the features aren’t right. I probably need to start the whole thing over from the top though bc i think i created the skull shape assuming id do a simpler style but then i started the facial features a lot more realistic lol, so there’s a discrepancy that’ll probably only get worse the more i refine the facial features, but its not bad for a first round!!
#N posts stuff#like Augustus’ face is definitely more ovular than circular#i don’t do a lot of pre-planning with 3d work ever which is bad probably but ¯\_(ツ)_/#i’m not doing this to sell it or get a grade off of it so i can do whatever i want lmao#but i think in my head i assumed id do like a simple circle and then Paint the features on#but then actually got that far and realized i wanted to sculpt so#need to redo the skull so it actually fits that plan now lol#i do also have the armature bases done for both augustus and the changeling bc i had to match their heights right off the bat#i’m doing it with quilt batting and securing it with yarn so far it looks a little goofy#the problem i’m having a little is making sure augustus Looks Fat and not just like. Wide? idk how to phrase it#but with ‘cartoony’ styles unless you contrast two characters directly you can make the style kinda wide/chunky and it’ll still Read as lean#(like chibi styles you know?) and i don’t want augustus to look like that#so i’m having to figure out how to get the batting on and have it distributed and sag like fat actually does#it’s fun! idk i like to figure stuff out. it’s all a little meaningless bc augustus wears exclusively long/oversized clothes#but that just means if i can’t figure it out then its fine !#i like you too

#yes these are from a woobles pattern. I can't recommend them based on price but I really did learn a lot from the kits I bought#I'm currently working on a blanket which. I made the pattern for myself :3#I won't be done for a while though because I have to buy $24 worth of yarn to finish it :(#but the little white pig was pretty cheap in terms of materials. cost maybe $1 and that's a really high estimate#also I just ordered some safety eyes because I'm not a fan of how the embroidered ones look. I thought the little Xs would be cute#but they just look dead. um.#but it was just for practice anyway. when I start selling stuff I'm gonna use only my own patterns#maybe I'll sell the patterns I make too? but maybe not. I will if people are interested I guess but I don't want that to be the basis of my#business#like I want to crochet little trinkets not sell patterns#I might sell patterns of bigger stuff I make though? like the things that take several hours to make

yall i spent a good hour tryna figure out how to crochet a chain stitch (i was following a tutorial) and let me just say.. what the fuck

trying knitting again and i figured out how to purl finally but also i'm using wood needles instead of metal ones like i've used in the past and i'm enjoying the experience so much more. i did not like how much the yarn slid on metal needles and the wood ones just help keep my stitches in place a lot better... i really just want to learn to make socks and maybe a few sweaters someday but i'm also open to whatever catches my fancy. right now i'm just doing a scarf in stockinette to get the hang of how to hold my needles and yarn and to use up an old yarn cake i had no other use for that was leftover from those baby blankets i made a few years ago so that's awesome too.
#shay speaks#theres a small local yarn/craft store in the next town over that i got these needles on sale at#they were having a hard time selling them so i got 6mm wood (i think theyre birch) needles for like $5#and i got some free stitch markers too yippie#but i'm having a lot of fun just knitting while watching videos or letting r1999 play in the background for the story#giving me something mindless to do to help focus on those things...#although just doing stockinette this thing is curling REAL BAD but thats fine... thats fineeeeeeeeeeeee#but yeah idk what i'm gonna do next but socks and maybe the no frills sweater are kinda on my bucket list#maybe i'll fall in love with sweater making who knows#but also !!! the vintage crochet channel i follow is also learning knitting and she was working on#a pattern from 1912 that i really like and i might see about making that for the lighthouse#after i can finish my crochet shawl. just to give myself options to look stylish but simple#anyway yeah i'll take pics laterrrrrr i've got quite a bit done and the final scarf is probably gonna be real long when its done#im not even to the first color change in it and i want to use the whole cake and get it out of my collection
