Another bonus to learning a fiber art is being able to speak to others in a Lovecraftian language that nobody else understands...

...and also being able to read things like THIS:

#art #crochet #fiber art #described images #image description in alt #used a crochet pattern for this because it's just INSANE #see i can recognize some of these stitch markings but i haven't done them all yet #i actually kind of prefer the diagram pattern because it actually shows you the shape and the way stitches compliment the piece #with a 'normal' pattern (e.g. 1 dc in fifth ch from hook ch 2 4 dc) i understand it sure but. it isn't the same.#i was reading somebodys recommendations for tapestry yarn and understood all the abbreviations and what they mean #plus i feel like diagrams can be a great way to teach you not only how stitches look but how they contribute to the larger piece #one of my crochet proficiency goals is to be able to look at a piece and know instantly what made it #*cue me at the store analyzing a crochet piece so i can replicate it for 5× the cost*#if you're selling a crocheted piece for like $20 then it's my imperative to replicate it and not buy it 🫡#i think that has the same moral implication as like... 'proplifting'#did crochet as the example because thats what i do as a fiber art. if theres a similar thing for knit/weave/ect then DROP IT BELOW I BEG YO #i want to learn all the lovecraftian languages of the fiber artists <3 #i feel like describing the image in exactly what stitch marking indicates what would have been too much so hopefully the explanation as to..#...what the diagram DOES and how it visually indicates a pattern was helpful <3

#i only bought. one thing of yarn #which was some lettlopi for nalbinding #but then also some tiny stitch markers and some eucalyn finally #its probably for the best that nowhere sells wool for spinning too #that would be my downfall

#yes these are from a woobles pattern. I can't recommend them based on price but I really did learn a lot from the kits I bought #I'm currently working on a blanket which. I made the pattern for myself :3 #I won't be done for a while though because I have to buy $24 worth of yarn to finish it :(#but the little white pig was pretty cheap in terms of materials. cost maybe $1 and that's a really high estimate #also I just ordered some safety eyes because I'm not a fan of how the embroidered ones look. I thought the little Xs would be cute #but they just look dead. um.#but it was just for practice anyway. when I start selling stuff I'm gonna use only my own patterns #maybe I'll sell the patterns I make too? but maybe not. I will if people are interested I guess but I don't want that to be the basis of my #business #like I want to crochet little trinkets not sell patterns #I might sell patterns of bigger stuff I make though? like the things that take several hours to make

Following a tutorial for a cute beanie and I've already frogged a row about three times...I am in pain.

yall i spent a good hour tryna figure out how to crochet a chain stitch (i was following a tutorial) and let me just say.. what the fuck

#talkin #im a simple man... i just wanna make my fiance a hat #and crochet a penis plushie #if i can figure out how to do that i can die happy #or at least less miserable #i think my tension might be wrong and im either holding it way too tight or entirely not tight enough #bc i either cant get the hook thru or my chains are loose and sloppy #i may also need thicker yarn but most of the worsted weight we sell at work is wool and im allergic i need cotton or acrylic

my only crochet experience is the scarf i made. that is wonky as hell.

oh no i've finally reached the point in my crochet hobby where I just want to make blankets, I have like 3 WIPs of blankets currently (one is a baby blanket for a friend) and my brain is trying so hard to overpower how incredibly slow making a blanket is with the desire to have a Cool Blanket I made with my own hands

#one blanket is the baby blanket i mentioned #and the other two were me impulse-buying some very pretty yarns #then trying to find patterns that would work with that yarn weight #I found a couple neat blanket patterns #so I'm making blankets now help #lee speaks #We sell consigner items at my job from a couple local artists #so I'm very tempted to ask my boss if I could sell some of my crochet stuff as consigner too #I bet she'd let me tbh. Especially the amigurumi I have #We also sell baby stuff and they'd fit RIGHT in with that lol
