but the reason “change my mind” is a meme in the first place is b/c of ppl making fun of that guy for being shit and doing something so laughably baseless as feeling like he’s proving some point by setting up a table to make ppl come tell him he sucks. the joke was founded on mocking him and how its clearly ridiculous to have a “change my mind” table for any stance and taking it all down a peg by treating it like the joke it is. it wasnt like, “started By” the shithead guy in the pic. it was started about him because of ppl recognizing his shitheaded nature...there’s no form of “support” given to this guy nor a condoning of the original image at any given point. its just that of course ppl may have Missed the point & context in which the original became edited, because don’t we all. and i totally get that ppl who didn’t know what the original was about might’ve felt like the guy was just some harmless rando who might even be the Relatable Figure stand-in in the image, and it feels gross realizing he’s actually crap, if you’d just inferred that this was all just solely born of Relatable Meme stuff. and like, that’s fine....if someone doesnt like using the format or finds it uncomfortable now then why should anyone care. but there’s no like.....fundamental problem here. the dude isnt the op or anything, gaining anything from notes. there was like some twitter moment about it and everyone rolled their eyes and turned it into the most frivolous shit because that’s what the guy and his self-assured original intentions were. so yeah its fine to not like using it if you want but the only reason the meme exists is from people recognizing his bullshit for what it is. like, having that context vs not having it and finding out the dudes shit later on is gonna be a different experience for some ppl, but one way or another.....the dude in the pic isn’t benefitting from this, and the original point of ppl making it into a joke was always about being Anti-that guy. yeah, the applications got more abstract and general as the iterations continued, the way that memes do, but at no point was the guy’s shitty agenda involved or in control of the joke, beyond it being the cause of him sitting at the table with the sign. and even people who’ve made jokes with it without knowing his intent havent Contributed to him or anything about him imo...like, the whole Thing is that he’s just some basic boring guy sitting there alone at a table looking pleased with himself. the fact that his dumpass “message” he intended has been wiped out by the meme really only is a benefit of having turned it into a joke. i personally dont remember what his name is. i dont specifically remember the exact wording of the original image, something like “male privilege isnt real, change my mind.” he just made himself look like a joke, so thats what ppl made him, deliberately making it into a twitter meme because his efforts hold as much water as someone sitting there like “molasses is a beverage, change my mind.” but i’m sitting here having known he was an ass all along, and like i said, i dont think its necessarily wrong either to feel gross if you thought this dude was only being understood as “harmless” or something, rather than that his efforts are being mocked as toothless. but there wasn’t like, a secret shitty core to the joke. the source of the original photo, yeah that’s bullshit and a pathetic display by a pile of crap person. the source of the meme though is about the opposite. though you do have to hope its not the kind of scenario where the white guy in a funny meme gets invited on ellen to be like the kids love change my mind man. here’s $10k and natl exposure. but i doubt that will happen. so yeah, definitely cant hurt to know where the meme really comes from if you didnt happen to already, but the original twitter-turning-it-into-a-meme jokes are actually very much anti-that guy and everything he was doing in the original pic. so just putting that out there.
