As usual, comes in like a week late but I wanted to do this when I had enough brain cells to think lmao. Thanks @deadheaddaisy and @saintzenni for the tags.

1. why do you write fanfic?

So. I got back into writing fanfiction after a decade when I watched Star Trek Enterprise and got a few ideas that would not leave me alone. Now... Well, first of all I am enjoying writing so much. In a year my skills have improved and I am enjoying that too, as well as understanding the characters more and more.

Also, through fanfiction I have met so many cool people who I am now honoured to call friends. Finding the Enterprise Fans Discord was SUCH an incredible stroke of luck. I enjoy talking to the people there about anything and everything, but the fact that there is so much encouragement for writing, fanart, and other creative pursuits, it's just a treat to be there and it has made writing even more fun.

2. which of your posted stories do you think about the most, even though the story is “finished”?

I do have ideas for continuation within the same universes as Wedding Bells and Matters of House and Heart but I can't seem to get a start on them. But they often cross my mind.

As to completely finished that I sometimes think about...hmmm. Maybe Anything's a Weapon If You Throw It Hard Enough, You Hungry?, and Darling! because they hold a special place in my heart.

3. if you could give yourself fic advice from when you started writing fic, what would that advice be?

If this means the very first time I was uploading terrible fic and then gave up after like...6 fics? I don't know, genuinely. I had no idea what I was doing lmao. I'm barely the same person I was then. I guess then the advice would be "Grow up, experience the world, then come back."

If I look at one year ago, I'd probably say the same thing I'd say now - "have fun with your writing...just have fun."

4. what’s your relationship to fic stats?

I admit I look at my stats daily, and yes, seeing a kudos or a comment makes me extremely happy. But also, I accept fandom for what it is. If I'm writing for a small or very small fandom, I know numbers are gonna be low, and if I'm writing an AU or a rarepair, it's gonna be even worse. BUT! I try to keep in mind that every kudos, every comment is a person. A person who read and liked my story. And that is incredible, really.

5. is there a pairing or scenario or friendship that you miss writing? if not, why not?

Miss...not massively. Sure I haven't written for Desmond's since July but I'll just write them when inspiration hits. Probably need to watch a few episodes again.

I tend to think more about things I haven't written yet that I'd like to write. I'm still thinking of T'Pol/Hoshi from Enterprise - I really want to write something for them. I've also been wanting to try writing some rough or kinky (or both really) smut but again...inspiration where?

6. what motivates you to write?

An idea that grips my brain and won't leave me alone

The characters/ship themselves

A shitty piece of canon that makes me irrationally angry

Talking and bouncing ideas with people, especially other writers

Participating in a challenge or event

However, there are also times where the idea is sitting there in my brain and I don't want to write. Like...wtf this is my hobby. Wtf brain what do you mean ... you don't want to have FUN??? So sometimes I just make myself write down the story, no matter how shitty I write it, just to actually get something on paper and jump-start the writing process. Then I slowly wrangle that disastrous first draft into something publishable lmao.

7. why do you write for the fandom(s) that you write for?

Considering that I once wrote for a fandom I wasn't yet in...I don't know what to tell you lmao.

Joking aside, it's usually the characters themselves and their relationships (platonic or romantic) that interest me. So I guess I just wanna put my blorbos in a jar and shake them.

8. if you’re stuck on a wip, what do you do?

I have a 4k one shot that took me MONTHS to write lmao. I got stuck and just ignored it for ages until I decided to try finishing again.

Also, talking to people can help a lot with both ideas and motivation.

9. what do you wish people knew about comments?

Personally, I appreciate any comment - from a simple emoji to a long, detailed comment.

But, if you want to make a writer extra happy and have no idea what to say? Quote the fic! Seriously, copy paste a line from the fic and detail why you loved it or that it made you laugh/cry or what it made you think about. I would LOVE to hear my readers' thoughts.

10. maybe there’s a question you wish had been on here. what’s that question (and answer)?

Not really a question. But I just want to say how in awe I am of people who write longfics. I am a rather concise writer who mostly writes oneshots. Yes, I have a 13k reader insert - and I have zero idea how I wrote that and how it was my first fic after a decade. I can't seem to write anything long now lmao. Anything 20k and above is incredible to me. There is no right or wrong length for writing and we are all here to have fun. But I just wanted to pay a compliment to people who have a skill that I don't have.

Thank you for tagging me, @deadheaddaisy! ❤️ As happy as I am to be tagged, the thing is, y’all, I’ve done that particular game a few times already and, even though it’s a great game, I was in the mood for something different. So, I’ve made new questions — and answered them — and I’ve tagged some folks in case they want to answer them, too.

1. Why do you write fanfic?

Life can be stressful, and writing fanfic can be like a little vacation. It’s not my life, anymore, it’s the characters’ lives.

2. Which of your posted stories do you think about the most, even though the story is “finished”?

I think about Malleable and Unmalleable Orders (Mirror Pikeone, E) probably because it’s so different from what I usually write. I also think about The Light Before Dawn (Pikeuna, M) because, even though it would have bogged down the story, I do think they eventually get married and the details of all that sometimes cycle through my brain.

3. If you could give yourself fic advice from when you first started writing fic, what would that advice be?

Enjoy this time of not really knowing fic conventions or expectations.

4. What’s your relationship to fic stats?

I try to avoid them. I love every kudos and comment and bookmark and subscription. But I don’t go looking for the numbers unless I have to.

5. Is there a pairing or scenario or friendship you miss writing? If so, why? If not, why not?

I miss writing Kathryn Janeway/Tom Paris. I had a lot of fun with that pairing for a while.

6. What motivates you to write?

If I don’t write the stories down, they get stuck in my brain. So I guess setting them free (in good ways) is my motivation.

7. Why do you write for the fandom(s) that you write for?

I really do believe in the ideals of Star Trek — IDIC and peaceful coexistence and all that stuff. Even though I often write for the spin-off series, not the original Star Trek, creating stories in that universe lets me be part of it, even in a small way. Also, as a bonus, I do think Trek readers are great about comments, kudos, etc., and that helps a lot.

8. If you’re stuck writing a WIP, what do you do?

I might work on something else or take a break. The problem will rotisserie in my head and probably work itself out if I don’t push it too hard.

9. What do you wish people knew about comments?

That any nice comment is welcome and appreciated and, if the person doesn’t want a reply to their comment, they can just say so and it’s easy enough for the author to honor their wishes.

10. Maybe there’s a question you wish had been on here. What’s that question (and answer)?

Chapter 353 Thoughts

These are belated, but also, extremely extensive. I have a lot of thoughts about this chapter. A couple of those thoughts are even positive! I wish more of them were, but I have a lot of issues with, for example, the continued lazy handwave of just how many heroes are still active, and the even lazier characterization shortcuts at a time when the narrative themes would seem to demand that no villain just gets dismissed as Bad because heroes can't be bothered to ask basic questions about their motivations.

I am so unbelievably weary of the heroes always having all the people they need to do any given thing.

Fighting literal thousands of trained warriors scattered in bases all across the country?  No big; the heroes have more than enough people!

All the heavy hitters ran off to fight Machia?  Well, they won’t stop him, but the split in their forces still won't have enough of an effect for the PLF at the villa to turn the tables.

Heroes dead or resigning in mass numbers up against a resurgence in villains?  Eh, whatever, there are still more than enough no-names to fight off near-High Ends and explicitly station "dozens" of heroes everywhere they could possibly be needed!

Seriously, why even bother with the “heroes resigning” angle if it’s never really going to matter that they’re short-handed?  Why can’t I watch the heroes have to struggle to overcome a problem with the people and resources they already have on hand, rather than all their plans always coming together to drop them perfectly timed reinforcements and all the cannons and spare prosthetic limbs anyone could ever ask for?

And you know, it's not like the general shape of things would even have to change overmuch to make things seem marginally more dire!  One simple thing would do it: skew the age range.  If ever so many heroes are dead and/or gone, then just show us more students. 

We already know students have been involved in professional actions, so why do we only ever see the UA kids—and only the ones we know, at that?  Why not show some of those briefly-glimpsed 2-A students?  Do literally any third years exist at UA other than the Big Three?  Where have the Ketsubutsu and Shiketsu kids been in all this?  Maybe make some of those background characters obvious teenagers instead of obvious Pros, and that'd help address the number issue.

Then too, you could get some more drama out of their relative inexperience or insecurity.  Of course, some of the window on that is already gone, since presumably even students whose classes weren't getting attacked by villains on the regular have now all had work studies, internships, and whatever their parts were in the raids on the PLF—but even still, the mass reduction in the numbers of Pros, on top of the shifting tide of public opinion, would by rights have a psychological impact.

Instead, we're continually stuck with the Class 1-A kids, a smattering of whatever Bs help the story, and a periodic shot of one of the Big 3 somewhere, and then a pile of Pros, never failing to have just enough people to succeed at whatever they're doing, and my god, it's so boring.  Thank god for Toga proactively lassoing her would-be love interest through a portal at the last second so we got any shake-up on this at all. 

Cripes.  If Hose Face's judgment is that the heroes were only pretending to be scattered and without unity, what does it say about what the villains are facing, and why should I believe Horikoshi when he tells me that no, really, the heroes totally are stretched thin!

And like, okay, having a bunch of people stationed to protect Machia, that's a totally fair call.  It's incredibly obvious that AFO would want Machia back on the field, and that the heroes would really, really not.  But what did Hawks and co. have to sacrifice to station so many people there to guard Machia?  What or who did they have to make the strategic choice to leave underdefended?

We know the police numbers are a bit thin where Ujiko is being kept, so is that going to matter?  Is a villain detachment going to show up to spring Ujiko?  What about Kurogiri?  Is Spinner going to run into enough opposition to stop him, especially since it's been made so repeatedly clear that All Might and Hawks weren't really planning for Spinner, much less a mid-sized-kaiju Spinner?  (More on him in a bit.)

And, if AFO is really so S+ Intelligence, did he foresee any of these calls?  It remains deeply weird to me that we had All Might saying he predicted AFO would throw everything he's got at Deku/One For All a mere handful of chapters removed from AFO saying he never puts all his eggs in one basket; he always has multiple possible routes to take to get to the same end.

On the evidence of the manga, I'm forced to assume that Hawks just tacitly ignored All Might's opinions and arranged for there to be back-up in multiple locations. If the task force had just taken All Might's word for it, Machia and Kurogiri's locations would have had whatever the standard complement of security is and no more. But then why let All Might even have that big triumphant moment about how they totally predicted that AFO would bring his army with him?

And if AFO is so S+ Intelligence, did he in turn predict what the heroes would choose to prioritize? Will there be a single area that he targets that the heroes didn't already guess that he would? Seriously, for a villain who we're constantly told is such a spider at the center of the web type, AFO certainly never seems to have counter-moves of his own prepared for when he takes the field.

Alternatively, are the attacks on Machia and Kurogiri's locations not AFO's work at all, but Skeptic's?  Does that mean AFO is actually giving Skeptic a relatively free hand to manage the PLF's resources, rather than dictating their deployment: you handle your people and I'll handle mine?  If that's the case, who on the hero side has got enough of a handle on Skeptic's tactics to try to outmaneuver him?  The heroes haven't even managed to disable his communications network!  Come on. Stop just telling us the heroes saw everything coming every chapter and make them have to work for something for once!

OKAY, with that rant out of my system, let me move on.

I like Mineta nodding in tearful, vehement agreement to Mina’s comment that Todoroki got the job done. 

My favorite aspect of Mineta is that, while he’s prone to envy and poking fun at his classmates, he’s actually extremely invested in them, to the point that he’s reliably one of the most emotional in any given scene involving a previously endangered classmate turning out to be okay.  He’s the one bringing the get-well-soon gift at the hospital; he’s the one who hugs Bakugou; he’s the one who’s always in tears about someone the class was worried about turning out okay. 

It always baffles me somewhat to see fans of the students expressing confusion that Mineta cared about X Student whenever something like this comes up—like, guys, it’s always been that way, even very early on, and it’s only gotten more prominent as the class has gotten less safe.

On Hose Face:

Nice to see he's got eyes under that mask.  I wonder if we'll see what he actually looks like under there?  I'm so curious about that big trunk appendage he and Lunch Rush have.  And what's with the headphones?  I remain interested in anything Horikoshi's got to give us on him, and any of the rest of the Advisors, and I hope they'll do anything at all interesting with the page-time they're obviously coming up on.

However. 

What in god's name was up with that transparently obvious nod to Midnight?  Surely Midnight was not the only hero Hose Face's group had to overcome the day of the raid, and in the time they've been active since?  Why call her out specifically?  What's the in-character motivation for highlighting that specific death?  While it's easy to imagine Midnight was a fairly divisive hero, I would hardly expect "schoolteacher" to be the part anyone taking issue with her would focus on.  So is it rather UA in general that Hose Face has a beef with?

Or is it, as I suspect, not that he's got anything against her personally, but rather that none of the UA kids have any way to know who killed Midnight unless her killer just says it out loud within one of their earshots?  Is the only reason he made that comment because Horikoshi could not come up with a single more credible, more elegant way to get the kids that knowledge?  Like, it couldn't even be deployed as a battle taunt next chapter??

Right now, it just looks like a brute force way to get Mina and Kirishima psyched up for this fight, because god forbid any student should have to engage with Liberation ideology intellectually when we can just throw a body count at it and use that to write it off. 

As if Shigaraki Tomura doesn't have a body count!  As if Stain didn't have a body count! And yet, Tomura is seriously engaged with as someone who needs help despite his crimes; we're allowed to have heroic characters acknowledging that Stain had a point despite his methods. Why can't we get the same for anyone from the MLA, especially when their point is apparently so compelling that tens of thousands of people across the country and across generations have found it worth dedicating their lives to?

And I don't know; maybe Horikoshi will surprise me, and Hose Face will lay out some actual accusations against Hero Society that Mina and Kirishima will be called upon to respond to, something that will even get us as far as the "cool motive" part of, "Cool motive; still murder."  Maybe.

I feel like we particularly need that here because what we have right now are two members of the three pairs who failed the practical portion of their mid-term exams, who couldn't think their way out of what their teacher/principal threw at them.  Mina and Kirishima had a good(-ish) tag team moment against Gigantomachia, so what new challenge will this bring to the table for them?

More importantly, is whatever it's got in store worth killing Midnight for?  I mean, hers will still be a death that serves no purpose but to motivate other characters' development,* but will at least be good development?  I have my doubts.

I further remain somewhat confused as to why this character beat is going to Mina. It's not like the set-up is completely absent? Mina is the one who confidently declared that Midnight would be fine when her classmates worried; Mina was among those who found Midnight's body/were there when she died. Sure, okay.

But Mina doesn't, to the best of my recollection, have much prior relationship with Midnight. Mina isn't the one Midnight expressed specific confidence in during the mid-terms. Mina isn't the one Midnight entrusted dealing with Gigantomachia to. Mina isn't the student Midnight was thinking of at the very end.

That's all Momo. So why is Momo—whose plot for this entire series has been about learning to trust her gut and utilize that intelligence and flexible quirk of hers quickly, on the ground, in the moment—stuck doing support for a girl who can't be bothered to remember her name instead of being out on the field? Hell, if Momo was there, we could even have something go drastically wrong, and there'd be someone there smart enough to roll with it and come up with something. Indeed, I'd expect that to happen because it's where I've been expecting her arc to be leading all along.

Instead, it's Mina and Kirishima, and I just don't know why it's them. As with so many things about the current set-up, I'm desperately hoping that it's still the early days, and things will still go to hell in interesting ways that will require some more ingenuity from our ostensible lead characters.

What's the escort mission Kirishima mentioned?

Where could he possibly have been escorting someone to in the ruins of Jakku?  And why do I get the extremely exhausting feeling that it's just going to be another tiresome case of the heroes always managing to have all the pieces they need set up in advance of when they need them, while the villains are scrambling to keep up, but for some reason I'm supposed to see the heroes as the underdogs in any situation ever?

What's up with Sero's "…"? 

I've seen it proposed that it's just a comic beat because he's one of the ones who had to get cartoonishly overpowered to show how strong Todoroki was?  But the official translation of Ojiro's line doesn't feel like it leads into that?  Nor can I chalk it up to someone who was a little closer to Shouto feeling that brother fighting brother is not something that should be cheered for, regardless of which brother came out on top, as Sero was neither in Shouto's hospital room in Chapter 298 nor his makeshift dorm room in 342. 

I really have no clue what to make of it, but it strikes me as potentially interesting, especially since Sero strikes me as a bit more sensible and canny than Sato or Ojiro.

(I also liked it because it felt like a very brief part of the chapter that broke up the hype parade of heroes prematurely celebrating a victory I remain unconvinced they're having to work very hard for.)

Kunieda is very nifty, even if I think he is making some extremely questionable fashion choices vis a vis where he puts a shirt collar and coat lapels.

I like his big creepy red-black flowers.  I do wonder what the motivation is behind "proving his utility to AFO."  A materialistic desire for the things a victorious AFO can offer?  The ideological zeal of a True Believer? Fear that he needs to keep himself on the Demon King's good side? 

I thought Dictator's phrasing on a similar note was odd back when we got him. He talked about the security he'd gain by bringing Deku in, like he was in some kind of danger if he didn't, be that a threat to his life or a loss of something he valued. I was frustrated back then that Dictator was such a transparent villainous caricature that an exhausted Midoriya Izuku felt no need to follow up on that hint—here's hoping Kunieda gets even a little more engagement!

While we're in the Kunieda scene, let me add that Aoyama would make a more convincing Aesop's Bat if he'd ever actually wanted to be on AFO's side to begin with, or made a choice to come clean to the heroes because he thought it'd be more beneficial to him, as opposed to him being discovered inadvertently through no choice or action of his own.  His lack of agency continues to undermine his potentially interesting situation.  Well, at least him peeking out from behind the ever-delightful Fat Gum is cute.

Spinner's section hurts my soul. 

God.  The hand reaching for his face, not with AFO's usual forceful, commanding dominance, but more a terrible, and terribly gentle, intimacy. Spinner's small, regretful smile.  God. 

My flailing about the way Horikoshi drew AFO and Spinner in That One Panel aside, I liked Spinner's outside viewpoint on Dabi, and how you could say he's just wrong about it—Dabi's pretty flagrantly gunning for the murder-suicide with Endeavor, after all!—but at the same time, that very desire has driven Dabi to survive, does fill him with passion and purpose in ways Spinner has always had to look outside himself to find even a semblance of. 

And maybe Spinner was doing and would have continued to do better with his feelings for Shigaraki, but circumstances, as well as Shigaraki and Spinner's own flawed decisions, have split them apart from each other, so Spinner can't really fall back on his feelings for Shigaraki either, at least not and feel at all good about it.  I sympathize, because I am also in quite a lot of pain over it.

I consider myself about halfway to being right on the money about Shouji when I called this back in November, but there are a lot of caveats in place before I can consider myself remotely happy about it.

I've written a fair amount about my concerns about Shouji foiling Spinner, but it occurred to me recently that there's a worryingly large chance that my fears are exactly on point, and the reason for it will prove to be a cultural thing. 

To wit, my Western individualistic lens says that, no, it's not Shouji's job to wear a mask his entire life to save ignorant people from nothing worse than passing discomfort.  In a more community-minded society like Japan, though, would the perspective be different?  I have a sizeable concern that we're going to get Shouji's choice lionized, that the message will be, yes, choosing to make people uncomfortable when you could easily make a "minor" sacrifice like wearing a mask when you go out is breeching meiwaku, so Shouji is correct and kind and noble, and the heteromorphs raising hell because of the way they're pre-judged are just being selfish.

I desperately want Horikoshi to prove me wrong on this.  I hope he will.  But good god, Shouji thinking about how proud he is to be in the same class as a kid putting himself through the meat grinder because of Family Duty is not filling me with confidence.

Shouji. Shouji, you are carrying the weight of one of the only Societal Issues in this story that Horikoshi would have a really hard time trying to somehow make All For One's Fault. Please, please, please address that issue with a response that doesn't boil down to, "Hurting people is wrong. Just because people mistreat us because of their baseless prejudice doesn't give us the right to make trouble over it. All we can do is try to prove them wrong and suffer in silence in the meantime."

All except one: "Vmmm" is certainly not a very biological-sounding sound effect, is it?  I looked up the Japanese sound effect there (it transliterates to kiiii) on manga SFX translation site The Jaded Network, which suggested that the kana there typically represent a high-pitched squeaking or screeching sound, as of a chair being pushed back when someone stands up or a car slamming the brakes.  That definitely sounds more like a sound ice could plausibly make than vmmm, but as before I remain mostly content to just see where the story's going with whatever's going on there.

I love that AFO is so known for mindgames that Hawks is like, "Oh, here it fucking comes."

About which a post on Chapter 354 would probably be a more appropriate place to expound.

That's what I've got for 353. What do people think: should I keep doing these chapter posts? I obviously (very obviously) won't always have this much to say, but I've been getting more asks of late about current events, so I can try to keep up these big round-up posts if there's interest.

I'm not super into the prediction game—I'm much more interested in observation and reflection—but I suspect I can usually muster up at least a few talking points. And I'm not completely unswayed by the modest bragging rights available when one notices+publically comments on a weird discrepancy months before the manga calls active attention to it. (For what of the manga remains, anyway.)

So, first and foremost, I'm glad you got through season 2 because the Netflix-Marvel shows leave Netflix on March 1!!! And I think they're going to end up on Hulu, but they won't be on Netflix anymore.

In the order of the show, the mini-series "the Defenders" takes place between Season 2 and Season 3 of DD. So if you want to continue the ninja/Elektra plotline from season 2, watch the Defenders! (Plus it has Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, two of my favs!). But if you just want to move on to season 3 of DD, then go right into it. The very, very end of Defenders is where season 3 picks up.

Also, girl, RIGHT????? How does NO ONE know?? He has that sexy, low, smooth voice when he's in that suit, but, like, it's CLEARLY Matt Murdock voice. And he shows up the next day beat to shit and is like "oh, oops, walked into a door." Lol. That excuse is only good so many times. (And if you DO watch Defenders, PI extraordinaire Jessica Jones has Matt's number from the JUMP! TBH -- I loved their dynamic. It was the best thing about the show).

Also -- speaking of his sexy voice and his sexy suit (THANK YOU, MELVIN) I do think season 1 black suit/black mask Matt is the SUPERIOR MATT. That babygap shirt is SO TIGHT I am just so appreciative we get to see DD and his DD's.

As to the ranking of Matt Murdock relationships -- you and I have the SAME ranking, I think. He and Elektra truly are SUPREME! I know people didn't like Elektra because they don't like hte femme fatale trope, but I LOVED it. I LOVED her. I love how their dynamic ebbs and flows -- they bring so much out of one another, and yet, can they ever truly change? Even if they wanted to? He believes so much in Elektra, and no matter what she does, he loves her. And I think he and Claire had such incredible chemistry, and she understood what he was doing and what he stood for, but also didn't take his shit? I absolutely did not like Matt and Karen. I was sort of rooting for her and Foggy, and then her and Frank. But I LOVE Marci and Foggy together, so it's no great loss.

I didn't like Karen and Matt because she was so judgmental of DD being who he was, but was totally OK with the Punisher? When early on she was such a Daredevil defender? And that she can just waltz into jobs she's wildly unqualified for and get hired? I don't UNDERSTAND. Lol.

As to Matt's philosophies -- I think he can be a bit hypocritical, but I never thought he thought he was better than Frank because Frank kills people. Especially when you get through Matt's season 3 arc and what he goes through then. But that he felt a deep sense of sorrow for Frank and what he'd been through, but has such a HARD line about his methodologies? But I agree, he always SHOULD have been up front with his friends about who he was -- they were clearly prepared to accept it. It wasn't what he was doing that per se upset Foggy (although since they're lawyers and have to operate within the bounds of the law, it was a struggle for him), but the LYING! But when their friendship is good, it's SO GOOD.

Ugh, anyway, SORRY FOR RANTING. I could talk about this show FOR AGES.

As for Matt fics -- I had a post I made for Jo with a few fic recs on it. I'll RB and tag you. I also have a few to add that I"ve been reading. BUT ALSO -- I'm working on my OWN Matt Murdock fic and MAN is it FILTHY. I'LL TAG YOU WHEN IT DROPS!!!!!!

A few months ago I typed up some comments about the anime-only scene between Otogi and Honda on the blimp. Found here.

Well... now I'm here to talk about what happened before that scene. Because I read so much more into it.

Let's take a walk.

Please keep in mind that a great deal of this speculation comes from the belief that, despite Mr. Clown not being seen in the anime, he still exists and his relationship to his son is very similar. Also please keep in mind that this is all speculation from someone who has spent waaaayyyy too much time looking into everything Ryuji Otogi says/ does.

We join our heroes shortly after Yugi's Duel with Bakura. Ryou has fallen unconscious and the stab wound he sustained earlier has re-opened (unless you're watching the dub where blood doesn't exist.)

Otogi's first line comes after Shizuka has asked Kaiba to land the plane, and the camera cuts to her making a pose that demonstrates both uncertainty and discomfort. Kaiba stares at her and Honda and Otogi both get between them... to Honda's annoyance.

More on this in a second.

Kaiba ignores this and turns his attention back to Jonouchi and Yugi, telling them that it was Bakura's choice to Duel and that he will not be held responsible for the repercussions of another's mistake.

This causes Shizuka to shout (probably for the first time in her life.)

Otogi makes this face. Personally, I think it looks like a combination of surprise and concern. But why would he be concerned?

Because Shizuka is a lot younger, a lot smaller, and a lot less powerful (both physically and financially) than Seto Kaiba.

He is fearful of what Kaiba will do in retaliation, ans so.

He gets between Shizuka and Kaiba in hopes of transferring whatever Kaiba's about to do to him instead of her.

Because Ryuji Otogi is an abuse victim that knows what happens when you challenge someone bigger and more powerful than you. They put you back in your place.

Also Honda continues to not like this. Otogi is cutting him off each time he tries to speak, and while this could be seen as Otogi trying to one up Honda (and the dub absolutely took it that way) I can see it taken a number of ways. There's a chance he's trying to team up with Honda and hope that Kaiba won't start anything if it's two against one. It could also be that Otogi's not paying a lot of attention to Honda. He does see Shizuka and start moving in front of her before Honda moves into the frame the second time.

Going on a small tangent here but...

Keep in mind, Otogi stepped into a fight against four other guys and got himself involved in the fight against a cult to protect Honda and Shizuka. Sure, you can say that he did that to have a chance with her, but that's a lot of risk to have a chance with a girl he knows nothing about... especially for a guy who could have any number of girls with minimal effort. He will also shortly after this put up his own body as a gamble to protect Shizuka from a creepy old man that wants to wear her body like a suit. Personally, I don't think Otogi has any romantic feelings towards Shizuka at all, since each time they interact, he isn't so much flirting as he is trying to protect her. He treats Rebecca in a very similar way when he joins the duel between her and Varon under the assumption that Mai is also dueling, and that Rebecca will be outnumbered (and the correct assumption that a 12-year-old is about to pick a fight with a cult member who has the power to steal her soul. I've heard critiques that Otogi is very sexist because he won't let Rebecca nor Shizuka fight their own battles, which, yes, that's one way to take it... or you can take it as him stepping in when people significantly younger than even he is (Shizuka is 13) are put into incredible danger.)

That was lengthier than I meant for it to be, I'm sorry, back to the actual post.

So, despite everyone's best attempts, Kaiba's not landing this plane. Now get out.

Shizuka makes this face as they leave.

She's not having a good time.

Again Honda tries to talk to Shizuka and again Otogi cuts him off. He also grabs her hands and makes a very dramatic show of himself.

He makes this ridiculous face (that the dub skips because right after it, Shizuka blushes, and the dub really wants to portray Duke as the bad option in this love triangle. So we can't let it be known that she's happy he's doing this.)

This. This is not a face you use when you're trying to be suave and impress a girl. Heck, this is not a face we'll ever see him use again. We've seen him be suave and flirtatious, we know what it looks like, and folks, this ain't it.

To me, he knows he's being ridiculous and over-the-top. That's the point. He's trying to make Shizuka smile or at least stop making that face.

Now... this is where things take a turn.

Disclaimer: This might come across like I don't like Honda. I don't dislike Honda at all! It's just the nature of this scene.

Honda volunteers to go look for the Millennium Ring. Yugi agrees that they should all look. Honda says no, Jonouchi and Yugi should focus on their duels.

We cut to Otogi (still holding Shizuka's hands, I think she's okay now buddy you can stop) and he asks if Shizuka wants to help him search (he does not speak for her like he does in the dub.)

Honda insists Otogi come with him and very forcefully shoves/pushes Otogi away from Shizuka (who does, admittedly, look relieved.) When Otogi tries to protest that this isn't what he wants, Honda grabs his face to silence him.

This is not the first time someone has silenced Otogi by forcefully touching his face.

And this is not the expression of someone who is at all comfortable with the person touching him.

Honda then proceeds to drag a flailing Otogi away from the group while covering his mouth.

Otogi is doing everything in his power to communicate that he does not want this without being able to speak or break the guy's hold around his neck and no one is recognizing this as a sign of distress... or they are and they're just not stopping it. Heck, Jonouchi thinks Honda is being nice.

We can also see in this still that Honda's got a few inches on Otogi. Not a lot, Honda is 5'11 and Otogi is 5'8, but that's a considerable difference when you're intimidated.

Honda drags him to the top of the blimp and, while Otogi is looking about the blimp for the ring (what Honda claimed they were going up here to do) Honda stays still. Directly in front of the door. Blocking Otogi from being able to get away. (I can't post any more images in this post I'll have to rely on hyperlinks now.)

Otogi can't get away and he's been pulled away from the group. He is very aware this guy has a problem with him and can very easily overpower him.

So Otogi does what I've dubbed activates smug mode.

I'm going to make another post elaborating on activate smug mode (this one's long enough as it is) but, basically, Otogi only acts this way when he's trying to get the better of someone or when he's feeling threatened. He is also incredibly smug when he approaches his father to tell him that he lost to Yugi, knowing full well how his father will react to that news. It's a defense mechanism. Honda's taller and stronger than Otogi, all Otogi can really do is badmouth him and make him feel smaller in hopes that that will make Honda back off.

He then makes this pose.

I'm no body language specialist, but I worked as a counselor at a battered women's shelter for a while, so I was taught a few things.

1. He turns to his side. When you're intimidated by someone, you don't face them directly. You tilt your body away to give the illusion of distance, and to keep your vitals out of their direct reach.

2. He folds his arms in front of his stomach. Remember, Shizuka crossed her arms in front of her stomach when she was facing down Kaiba. Otogi is masking it a little by pointing and propping his elbow on his hand, but folding the arms over the chest or stomach remains a typical sign of insecurity/fear.

3. He is clutching his arm. This is something people do during severe bouts of anxiety in an attempt to ground themselves.

In conclusion, yes, Otogi sounds very confident and like he's egging Honda on. He sounds confident. Because that's the only thing he really has over Honda. Honda seems insecure about his appearance when compared to Otogi, thus why he gets deeply irritated whenever Otogi gets close to Shizuka. Otogi taps into that and uses it because it's his only defense in this situation. Maybe Honda will get fed up and leave to go lick his wounded pride.

It doesn't work. They throw hands. Well, Honda throws hands. Otogi stays in a very defensive stance the entire time. Fun fact: Keeping your arms raised close to your face and blocking your chest is one of the main stances in the more defensive based martial art of Tae-Kwon-Do.

In conclusion, my name is Axel and I think about this way, way, waaaay too much. I am of the belief that Otogi is very intimidated by Honda. I was going to attach images here of all the times Honda grabs Otogi's shirt/ threatens to punch him in the face but since I can't attach any more images and hyperlinks are a pain, I'll save it for another post. There are at least five instances.

No, I don't hate/dislike Honda, in fact, I'm pretty sure if Honda knew about Otogi's background, he'd feel terrible. The fact is they're both insecure teenage boys, Otogi because of his home life and Honda because of his family's social status and perhaps his lack of success as a duelist.

And... while I've thought about this scene a lot ever since posting that other post, I never realized how sad it makes me. Otogi's not hiding that he's not okay with being manhandled and dragged off, and his friends just sorta. Let it happen. Again, I don't blame any of them. Both Yugi and Jou have a lot on their minds and they don't seem to notice that this is a problem. Probably because 1. Honda and Jou are very physical/ playfully threatening people, that's just how they are. 2. No one knows about Otogi's homelife. They have no way of knowing he would have issue with any of this. They do it to one another all the time.

I have a lot of feelings.

Chapter 1 ▪︎Even At 3am

Series Summary- This is my first attempt at writing with criminal minds characters! The show has recently become one of my favorite things to write and ramble about. This is a series of works that are written around an autistic Spencer Reid, and his journey's of finding comfort and joy within his team.

Chapter Summary- Spencer finally reaches out when he's struggling with a bout of sensory overload. It takes a whole lot of courage on his part and a good dose of platonic love from his boss to calm him down. (ft. Spencer's stuffed axolotl)

There's a light pattering of the beginning of a storm outside of the hotel room window, and Spencer is so tired. He has been, in fact, for the last two days, 16 hours, and 43 minutes. 

If Spencer was any semblance of normal, he thinks, he would probably be soothed by the little sounds of rain, but he's not. In fact, it's angering him. It's a constant white noise sound, like television static, but worse, because it can't just be turned off by the click of a button. He isn't even entirely sure why it's making him as mad as it is. 

The sound itself is even making him acutely aware of the way unfamiliar sheets feel against his legs, and the way his hair won't stay out of his face. It's alot, honestly. With every second that passes, the rain makes him more and more upset. None of his usual tactics of calming down have worked so far, either. 

He hasn't been able to read, because his brain felt like it was being drowned out by the sounds of rain against various outdoor surfaces. Music, though he'd never been a huge fan of anything other than soft piano, had also felt as though it was simply accompanying the rain, assisting it in it's attempt to make him breakdown. 

It starts out like this, usually. The discomfort, leading into being easily aggravated, but from then it's everything setting him off. Rain, the constant chatter of a room filled with busy police officers, the ticking of a clock, the texture of his pants, or sheets, or any unfamiliarity. 

He's been trying to sleep for days, but he hasn't been able to. To combat this, he'd been consuming copious amounts of coffee. This had made him more twitchy, antsy, than he had been before. His hands now, even, shake as he throws the blankets and sheets off of his legs. 

The frustration reaches it's peak though, when he has to struggle to pull his socks off of his feet, and tears fall from his eyes as he leans back onto the bed. As he tries his best to just breathe, he remembers how Hotch had separated him from the rest of their team, pulling him aside and out of the crowded room, as if he'd had an innate sense that he hadn't been doing well. 

"Do you need to leave, Reid? I won't make you stay here if it's not going to be beneficial for others or for yourself." 

He hadn't managed to give a complete answer, just nodding, hands curling into his pant legs. "Go with Morgan to the mortuary. I was going to send him alone but the quiet of a car will do you good." 

His boss had moved to lay a hand onto his shoulder, deciding not to when Spencer had visibly flinched. "I am completely serious when I say that you have to stop over exerting yourself. It does nobody any good when you render yourself useless to others." 

Spencer had frowned, not exactly happy with being reprimanded, but he knew that Aaron was certainly correct. 

"Beyond that, though, I understand. I made an agreement when I hired you into this team that I'd be here when you need me. You have to reach out to someone when it's necessary." 

So now, as he sits in the dark of his room, he does his best to remind himself that it's okay to reach out when he needs someone. His hands are shaky as he finds his bosses contact and presses call before he can over think it. 

It's answered fairly quickly. "Reid? What's going on?" 

"I'm- it's not anything serious I'm just… I think I'm gonna have a panic attack and I haven't slept for nearly three days, I don't know how to stop it." 

He knows how weak his voice sounds, and he hates it. His hands clench and unclench in his bedsheets. Tears continue to slip down his face and his shoulders and neck feel tense. 

He hears a the rustling of sheets on the other side of the call before he gets a response. "Can you come up here? You know my room number, yes?" 

"Yeah. Yeah, I do." 

"Okay, come up to my room, then. You're gonna be okay." 

He nods, only realizing afterwards that Hotch couldn't actually see it. He tosses his own phone into the open duffle bag by the foot of his bed. The room he's in is uncomfortably dark, and he hesitates for a moment before he moves to reach into the black bag, pulling out a small-ish stuffed axolotl. 

It's soft, and the eyes are embroidered, rather than buttons or beads, so they feel nice for his hands to run over. The texture is soft but smooth, and he's grateful that it's that rather than shaggy or rough. 

When he's made it up onto the third floor, rather than the second, where his room was, his embarrassment levels had risen and by the time he'd made it up to the door, he heavily considered turning back. 

Spencer's grateful when he only has to knock once for the door to open. 

Hotch stands in the doorway, and this is probably the only time that Spencer would ever see him in just sweatpants and a soft shirt. 

He moves out of the way once he realizes who it is, letting him walk into the room. 

His boss moves in front of him, to sit on the large bed in the middle of the dimly lit space. 

"What animal is that?" He points vaguely at the pink stuffed animal clutched in shaky hands. 

Spencer stands awkwardly across from the bed, his hands fiddling gently with the eyes and the tail of the toy. "It's, uhm… an axolotl. Penelope got it for me cause she knows textures I like and don't like." 

Hotch gently sits back to make room for him. He pats the empty space, hoping that Spencer will take the invitation to sit. He does, watching his own hands as if avoiding looking up at his coworker. 

"Do you wanna talk about what's been happening? It's okay if you don't want to talk about it, but it can be a good distraction." 

He nods slowly, tucking his legs in to sit cross legged. "I- the rain. It's like… t.v. static. I haven't been able to sleep because the sheets are so unfamiliar…" 

One hand moves up to hardly brush a tear from his cheek. God, he hates this. Vulnerability doesn't come easy to him, it never has. He knows how tight his breathing is, and that realistically he should start breathing deeper to ensure that he doesn't become light headed but- it's a lot easier to say than to do. 

"Can I touch your hands, Spencer?" 

The man in question gives an affirmative nod and watches as hands slightly larger than his own come into his line of vision, wrapping around one hand that isn't wrapped around the body of a stuffed animal.

"I know it's tough, but can you breath for me? Just a few deep breaths?" 

Fingers flex between Aaron's own, squeezing in what he's fairly certain is an effort to ground himself. 

Tears drop down steadily still, and one lands softly on the back of Hotch's hand. 

A thumb circles slowly in the dip of where Spencer's hand meets his wrist. "I do hate to seem any kind of strict right now, but… Spencer, I know how hard it is to tell us when you start struggling. What I need you to know though, is that when Gideon agreed to have you on this team, and when I made the decision to keep you here, we knew exactly what we were doing." 

A small sob comes from Spencer, and it deepens Aaron's own frown. 

"You are an incredible asset to our team. You are the driving force to solving most cases we come across. There's nothing you could do, or show, or say, to us that would make us value or love you any less. If that means this, or telling us you need a break, or letting through more tendencies or quirks when we're working- all of that is good. You do so good, I jus-" 

He's cut off abruptly when his hands are shaken away and Spencer all but tackles him into a hug, arms wrapping around his neck and face pressing into his shoulder. 

"And here I thought you were always so worried about germs." 

Spencer sobs lightly, tears dampening the material under his face. His legs rest on the outside of Aaron's thighs, his weight settled on his legs. The man below him tentatively brings hands around his back to envelope him in a hug, hands rubbing down to ease the tension where he can. 

"It's- it's so much." 

And this, at least, Aaron can understand. His breathing doesn't even out more than it had, and Aaron would be much more worried if he didn't know that at least in some sense, this would tire him out. So, instead of urging him to calm down as he'd mistakenly done before, when he was less aware of Spencer's diagnosis, he takes a different route. 

"Spencer, name 3 things you can feel." 

Light sniffles come and shaky breaths still echo in his right ear, but he moves to where his mouth won't be muffled. 

"That method of- of calming people down is something they use on kids-" 

"Three things, Reid." 

He huffs a little bit, but obeys. "Your hands." He shifts where he sits. "The- uhm, the bedsheets under my knees." 

One hand goes up to his face, pulling strands of hair back to tuck it behind his ear. "My face is really warm." 

Even though Spencer was right, the method of describing different sensory inputs was something people use on children, it was working well enough for him that Aaron wasn't going to stop using it. 

"Three things you can see?" 

He lifts his head from the shoulder it had been resting on, eyes moving around the room. He looks down slightly. "My hands are shaking." A glance to the left, afterwards, "My stuffed animal is to your left." 

"And your lamp is on, but it's… dim." 

His voice is soft, and it makes him seem small. He feels small too, body trembling under Aaron's hands. 

"Can you smell anything?" 

Spencer moves his head in a gesture of affirmation. "Your cologne." He pauses to pull in a deep breath. "Cleaning products, several." 

He's breathing is beginning to fade into a normal pace, and there's less shake to his voice. 

"Taste?" 

"Mint… my uh, my toothpaste. Coffee." 

Strong hands move up to his shoulders and neck, massaging lightly into the skin there. 

"Hm. What about sounds?" 

There's a silence in the room now. Spencer sits up slightly with realization. "The rain. It's not raining anymore." 

"Mhm. Maybe the universe listened to you, for once." 

He nods softly. 

They sit like this for a moment, Spencer relaxing into the pressure of Aaron's hands, his tears slowly to a stop. 

"Can I… Stay in here? I don't think I'll be able to sleep alone." 

Hotch gives a single nod, and it would have seemed curt, but his face is soft. "Of course." 

Spencer moves slowly off of him, fumbling for the pink toy before he lays down completely. 

Hotch moves to do the same, but notes briefly the distance that had been put between them. "You can come back over here, y'know." 

A tense breath was released and it brings a small smile onto the older mans face as he feels Spencer wiggle back up to his side, one arm laying over his stomach and a head resting against his chest. He takes the opportunity to wrap arm back around slender shoulders, only after lightly brushing stay strands of hair behind Spencer's ear.

"Goodnight, kid." 

"Night Hotch."

Say You Won't Let Go - Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“So, you girls just finished up your Reflection tour. What’s next for you?” Ryan Seacrest asked The Holy Trinity, were a well-known girl group consisting of Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui, and Dinah Jane. They were currently in LA wrapping up the last shows of their tour.

“The holidays are coming up. We are all looking forward to going home and relaxing with our families.” Normani answer.

Normani sat there gorgeously, her dark skin practically glowing. Her ever-changing hair was long and curly today, and her smile was flawless. She was the strength of the group. She always stood up for the other girls whenever anyone tried to disrespect them.

Lauren’s emerald eyes were anything but focused, while she played with the tips of her raven hair. She is the outspoken one, most likely to be seen rallying for human rights. When she isn’t telling the world to fuck off,she’s out partying.

She wasn’t paying much attention to the interview, her mind far too preoccupied. She recently discovered this girl on YouTube that sang covers. Her voice was amazing, and it captivated Lauren. She felt that this girl could even sing better than herself. She was pulled out of her thoughts by her bandmate, Dinah. “Hello?! Earth to Ralph!”

Dinah waved her tanned hand in front of Lauren’s face. She was the heart of the group, the most compassionate person in the world. She was always incredibly thankful for everything she was given throughout this journey. She tried often to hide her gratefulness through jokes.

“I’m sorry guys,” Lauren apologized. “What was the question?”

“Ryan wants to know how we became The Holy Trinity,” Normani said.

“Oh, easy. We are best friends, we love to sing, we got noticed by some people. BAM! The Holy Trinity!” Lauren laughed. “Longer story…” She continued. “Normani and I have been friends since 8th grade. She moved out to Miami from Texas.”

“When I first got to Miami I was a bit shy. Lauren had a 24-hour bitch face. I thought if I was going to make it through school I would need someone like her to have my back.” Normani joked.

Lauren snickered, “That was her first mistake. Thinking I was bad ass. I know I’m known as the ‘Bad Girl’ in the group, but truthfully—”

“—She’s a big ass puppy!” Dinah interrupted.

“Hey! That’s not true. I’m not a puppy! I’m not saying I’m a vicious dog, but definitely not a puppy either!” Lauren defended herself.

Ryan was laughing, “Okay, so how does Dinah come in this mix?” pointing between Normani and Lauren.

“We felt bad for her,” Lauren said, sticking her tongue out towards Dinah.

Dinah rolled her eyes. “If anything, I felt bad for Mani having to deal with you all the time.” Lauren feigned hurt, gasping while clutching her chest. “They came out to California for spring break their freshman year.”

“I was going on vacation with my family, and I thought it would be better to have my best friend come. So, I begged Lauren’s mom to let her come with us.” Normani laughed at the memory, “I thought she was going to say no so I even brought her flowers to try to win her over.”

“One night, my family was having a bonfire out on the beach. I went for a walk to catch a breath from them because there’s too many of us. As I was walking, I heard people singing. I saw Lauren playing guitar while singing Impossible with Normani. They sounded great. I felt like I wanted to be a part of their little jam session –”

“So without warning she starting belting out the song. Surprisingly she was amazing” Lauren added.

“Surprisingly? Yeah right.” Dinah flipped her long blonde hair. “From there we sang for a bit, talked, exchanged numbers. We clicked so well, you’d think we were friends since birth. That summer I went out to Miami to see them. I know we joke around a lot, but these girls are like sisters to me. Not that I need any more family, but I am glad to have them.”

Lauren pouted her lip at Dinah. They do joke around plenty, and never really express their gratitude towards each other often. It’s kind of an unspoken fact. They all knew they wouldn’t be here without one another and they are forever grateful for each other. It’s not something that needs to be said; however, when they do say things like that it fills Lauren’s heart up with love for these girls.

Many people these days like an artist based on their looks even before hearing them, but Camila’s fans like her for her voice. She feels it’s special that way. She maintains a relationship with them on twitter to let them know that she’s appreciative for them, but she’s sure not to give them too much information where they are able to figure out who she is.

Camila didn’t like the idea of living alone, especially after having a sister around every day. Before she graduated high school, she put out an ad for a roommate and lucky enough Ally responded. Camila was apprehensive about Ally because she was older.

They talked all summer before actually agreeing to live with each other. It was when they met up in person one day in August at a coffee shop, they decided that it was a perfect match. They talked all day like they known each other for years. They still go to that coffee shop together regularly.

Camila was completely in love with their small apartment. You walk into a kitchen/living room area, and to the right is a long hallway with four doors adjacent to each other. They had their separate bedrooms and an extra room for Camila’s music. She most liked the name of the complex, The Lyric. Well technically it’s the Plaza at the Lyric, but nonetheless, she thought it was poetic.

“Why would I need to watch it when you were about 10 feet away from me while recording?” Ally joked.

Camila scowled at her. “That’s not the point, Allyson. I need to make sure my number one fan likes it!” She joked winking at Ally.

“You should probably call Shawn and ask him then.”

Camila nearly choked on air laughing. “When did you become so funny?”

Shawn is Camila’s other friend. They’ve been friends since first grade when he moved from Canada to Miami. He became her neighbor and classmate, and Camila was thrilled she wouldn’t have to sit alone at school anymore.

Shawn and Camila quickly became close, and he was like a brother to her. They decided to go to college together. He was like a brother, if your brother was hopelessly in love with you. He’s incredibly nice and he’s been by her side through some of the hardest times in her life.

She’s truly grateful for him, but she’s never been interested in him that way. It doesn’t help him that she mainly attracted to girls, with an occasional guy crush here and there.

“Who wouldn’t notice you? You’re amazing, Mila!” As he said that Camila noticed this look in his eyes. They were filled with nothing but adoration for her.

She rolled her eyes at him and kept walking towards class. Camila notices all the dirty looks she gets from the girls on campus. To be honest, Shawn wasn’t an unattractive guy and girls around campus hated that he was always with her.

“Shawn,” she said shaking her head. “Who cares about me when The Holy Trinity are all hot as fuck!” Camila says a little too excited for Shawn’s liking.

“I guess” he answered, “Anyways, you coming with me home? To visit your dad?”

“I wasn’t planning on going home, but thank you,” Camila told him.

“Don’t be like that Mila, go see your family. Go see Sofi, I’m sure she misses you. If things get shitty with your dad you can always come over to my house. You know my family loves you, and wouldn’t mind having you over.” He pleaded.

Camila knows she should go see her sister, but she doesn’t want to have to deal with her dad. He didn’t ask her to come home and she didn’t want to come unexpectedly, the last time she did that it didn’t end well for her.

“That’s really nice of you, but I’m truly okay staying in my apartment this year. It’s really no big de—"  before she could finish her body collided with another’s, causing her fall onto the floor.

“Oh shit my bad!” a tall blonde guy said to Camila. It was nearly impossible not to notice his body covered in tattoos as he was wearing a band tank top and ripped jeans skinnier than Shawns.

“Hey man, watch where you’re going next time!” Shawn snapped.

“I said I was sorry, and plus she ran into me. So, technically it’s her fault.” The stranger replied as he stretched out his hand to pull Camila up. Shawn was about to say something else, but Camila interjected while she dusted herself off. She didn’t want Shawn to get his ass handed to him by this stranger.

“It was totally my fault, I wasn’t looking where I was going. Honestly, I’m surprised to make it anywhere without dying,” Camila kidded trying to make the situation lighter.

The tall boy laughed. “Well still, I’m sorry. I’m Kellz,” he held out his hand towards Camila.

“Camila.” She said shaking his hand. “Kellz? I hope that’s not your birth given name.”

He laughed, “Nah, it’s short for Machine Gun Kelly.” She looked at him even more confused. “It’s my rap name. My actual name is Colson, but literally, no one calls me that.”

“I understand man! My actual name is Karla, but I hate it so I go by my middle name!” Camila said excitedly. Kellz laughed at her silliness. He looked around and noticed that Shawn had walked away.

“So, your boyfriend is kind of an asshole.” He said to Camila.

Her eye grew wide, “Oh god no! That is not my boyfriend!” She paused looking for Shawn, but not finding him. “Well, I have to get to class, got a final to do.” She said unenthusiastically.

“What class you have? I’ll walk with you.”

“Vocal writing.”

“Really? Cool, I didn’t think you’d be interested in music.” Little did he know, Camila thought to herself.  “I’m one of the performers for the winter festival tonight. I had to come back a show love to my old school love. I just got signed to a label, and they want to put my face out there, so it’s small festivals and mall appearances for me.” He boasted.

Camila chuckled, “You seem unexpectedly cool.”

“Thanks, I think?” he said confused.

“’I’ll have to listen to your stuff.”

“Or you could come out, and watch me today?”

“Buddy, once I’m done with this final I’m going home and not coming back until I have to,” she declared.

Kellz nodded and laughed.

As the pair walked to Camila’s class, they didn’t stop talking about music. She surprisingly enjoyed talking to Kellz. His passion for music matched hers. She never could connect to people so easily, but there was something about Kellz that made her feel like comfortable.

They reached Camila’s class and stood outside a little before entering. She peered inside the room and saw Shawn already inside seated at his usual desk. Camila noticed him glaring towards Kellz, and couldn’t help but laugh at his absurd jealousy.

“Hey, maybe I can get your number? We can hang out. Write a song or something together!” Kellz asked.

“Yeah sure. That sounds fun.” They exchanged numbers and a hug, then Camila went to class.

“I tweeted them a thank you before class. I doubt I’ll hear back,” she groaned shoving her face into a pillow.
