Day 8 of Matsuhana week: Yakuza
Summary: Left with his father’s debts, Hanamaki decides to not pay back the dangerous Yakuza boss until he’s on his knees before the man himself.
Tumblr media
Warnings: mafia/yakuza business, threatening letters (not into much detail), minor character death (by cancer), tranquilizer gun, kidnapping, age gap, fingering, Virgin!Hanamaki, bit of corruption kink, lube, no condom, creampie
Tumblr media
“Why does he have so much junk?” He groans, looking through another box. “Who’d have known the old man had so much stuff to hide?”
Hanamaki was digging through his ill father’s belongings. His mother was currently at the hospital while the nurses caught her up on the situation, but it wasn’t looking good. The cancer had spread to his brain, signaling his end was near. His mother, however, decided to dig into their limited money supply to see if it could be fixed, leaving them with same amount of money before his father got that new job about 10 years ago. So, Hanamaki thought he could sell some items to get extra cash.
Oh, he wasn’t planning on sharing it.
His mother had taken plenty of money he could have used for college, as well as moving out. Even now, she refused to see that her husband was a lost cause and keep the money to use on her son, but no. She’ll get all the life insurance money, as well, so it’s not like she’s in desperate need of cash. Hanamaki, on the other hand, could barely eat and make ends meet when he worked at a nearby pizza restaurant. The answer, and his reasonings, were clear.
Digging through a box he found under the bed, Hanamaki’s face changes drastically as he opens the box to find money. Wads of paper bills that could set him up for the next year, honestly. However, as he takes the money, he finds a note underneath it. Curious as ever, he decides to read it.
“50,000 yen for the Boss” is all it reads, making him tilt his head. However, more digging through the box makes him realize his dad was not just hoarding money, but rather keeping the money and giving it to this.. Boss guy. A part of Hanamaki told him it was bad news, but the other part of him needed money.
Pocketing the cash and grabbing any antiques, he left the room and never looked back.
Three days later, a proper ceremony was in place for Hanamaki’s father, who finally succumbed to the cancer eating him and left behind a widow and a son. Hanamaki’s mother was incessant on a proper burial, despite the money necessary for it. Condolence money would be given, but that money was hardly enough for someone to have a proper ceremony. Hanamaki may have spent most of his time picking bones and putting them in the urn, but he wasn’t going with his mother and uncle to the family grave, instead going back to his car.
A cheap, old car that needed a lot of money to be back into good working order, but Hanamaki liked how reliable it was. It may creak and sigh and he can’t go too fast, but he’s always to work on time and never wastes money sprucing it up. Getting to the car, however, Hanamaki saw something under his wiper. A note, most likely.
“Who-“ he sputtered, looking around the empty parking lot. He wasn’t parked illegally, nor was he in a special spot, so he wonders who left it. Reading it made him wish he didn’t.
“To the young Hanamaki Takahiro, in the wake of your father’s passing, you are to take on full responsibility and pay back his accumulated debt. Sincerely, Seijoh Family.”
Hanamaki was no idiot. He may have been able to forget about the notes and letters and the money, but he couldn’t as his eyes ran over the inked words. The Seijoh Family was a yakuza family that was well known for helping those down on their luck, as long as you could pay them back when your luck turned around. It suddenly made sense.
The lack of money and his always empty stomach, the fighting between his parents, all of it suddenly changed within a couple of days with a new promotion. Hanamaki went from eating small quantities to large ones, his house went from a small one to a nice and big one. Everything got better, but then everything got worse. It was more of a middle ground, honestly, but he could feel it slipping. His father had gotten everything he wanted and then suddenly, he needed to pay back the money he was loaned. And now, with his cremated remains in an urn, Hanamaki would be taking up his father’s debts.
Although the message scares Hanamaki, he can’t afford to let it control him. He has to go back to work and prepare for college classes soon. He can’t be worried about some creepy guy planning to kill him because he’s struggling. Even as he tells himself that, the next couple of days has him putting tips into a jar in his kitchen, sliding it under the sink and out of his sight. The money he took from his father was 10x what he makes in a week, making him worried that he’ll never be able to pay back the sum of debt.
With the dread of something bad about to happen, Hanamaki decides to push the thought away, hoping a gooey cheeseburger and soda can take the feeling away. With his dinner, a movie will be enough to take his mind off of everything. As soon as he sits down, though, he gets a wiggling doorknob. Hoping it’s someone trying to get into the wrong apartment, he waits for it to stop. When it does, he relaxes once more, only to then fly out of his seat when two people walk through the door.
They’re big, despite Hanamaki having some muscle on him. Big and dressed in dark clothing, wearing protective layers on their face so he can’t get a proper look at them. He’s quick enough to try to get away, hopping over the couch to reach the balcony when one of the guys shoots him with something. Face planting on the floor in front of the window, the last thing Hanamaki sees is the guy pull out a cell phone.
When Hanamaki comes to, the first thing he notices is the hushed whispers and he’s draped over something — or someone. His arms feel like jelly, but his eyes slowly open to reveal a corridor, dimly lit as the same two guys, he thinks, walking behind him. He’s momentarily startled awake by them, but he realizes he soon has other worries when he notices he’s entered a big room, the door shutting loudly behind him.
“Is this the one?”
“Yes sir,” one of them answers. Hanamaki is then placed down on his knees in front of the other person in the room. A glance is all Hanamaki is blessed with before his head is shoved down, almost into the floor by the guy behind him. “Head down,” he sternly says.
“Now, now. We mustn’t hurt him too badly. How else will I get my money back?” The man says, the chair underneath him creaking as he leans forward. With his head no longer forced down, Hanamaki takes another chance to look up at the man before him. Clad in black slacks and sleek shoes, Hanamaki has an easy time figuring out just who’s in front of him. The ironed white shirt had a few buttons loose, sleeves rolled to his elbows, showing enough muscles to know force was a valid option. The man himself had a smirk that made it seem as though he was playing a game with Hanamaki, further proved when his hand grabbed Hanamaki’s chin and let him get a better look. “You’re quite young, aren’t you? College age, perhaps?”
“How did-“ Hanamaki sputters, only to stop when his smirk drops. “Sir?”
“Matsukawa Issei. I’m sure you’re aware of your father’s debts, which are now your responsibility. However, I can’t see how I’d benefit from someone struggling to make ends meet. I may be cruel, but I’m also fair. If you can’t work and live comfortably, I can’t get all my money back. Do you see my dilemma?”
“You could, I don’t know, let me go?” Hanamaki suggests, raising an eyebrow. He mentally takes a point when Matsukawa’s lips tilt into a smile.
“You’re funny, but I can’t do that,” he sighs, smile dropping. His eyes then turn to the goons in the room. “Get out. I’ll discuss things in private,” he orders, each subordinate leaving. Once gone, he sighs once more as he moves over to his desk, pressing a button as shades cover the windows and the room is pitched into darkness. When the desk lamp and floor lamp near the couch turn on, Hanamaki finally gets a better look at the room.
Despite being shoved to his knees before Matsukawa as if he was placed on a throne, the room looks similar to a study. With Matsukawa leaning against a dark mahogany desk, large and almost empty aside from an old looking phone and a control board, the only thing left in the room are pictures on the wall and the spacious couch. The pillows looked so comfortable and much more expensive than the cheap couch he owns. Once Hanamaki had finished looking around, he straightened his back a bit more and looked at Matsukawa, wondering just what was going to happen.
“What’s next, then? You can’t kill me because then you don’t get money, but you also can’t just let me go because I can’t pay you back like my old man did, so we’re in limbo,” he breaks the silence first, eyes scanning Matsukawa for any instance of movement.
“You’ll still be paying me back, of course. I can’t lend you any money because of your father’s debts, sadly. Although, I’m sure you’d not want to be in his same shoes. You know what, I like you, so I’ll give you some options,” he begins walking closer to Hanamaki, making adrenaline kick in. He may not seem threatening, but he has an entire building full of people at his fingertips. As he circles Hanamaki, he continues talking. “Option one, you pay me back at your leisure. I’ll even help you a bit, of course making you pay back more, but you’re not on a time limit like everyone else. Option two, I take the money I can from you and your mother, who currently sits on your father’s life insurance money, and leave you with just enough to scrape by. Option three,” he stops, kneeling in front of a currently exhausted Hanamaki, taking his chin between his fingers until they’re eye to eye, “you let me blow off some steam and your debt will be down 10 times it’s original amount. So you don’t have to do the math, that means instead of roughly 50 million yen, you’ll be paying only 5 million. It’s quite a lot, I’ll admit, but it’s much better than what you have to pay.”
“What’s.. what does blowing off steam count as, exactly? Letting you hit me every time you get angry or something?”
“No, as in you let me use your body as I see fit. I could hit you, but I have other ideas in mind,” he says, smiling as Hanamaki’s face darkens when the gears start moving. “You can decline, of course, but that’s a lot of money. Not to mention, you’re still gonna have to pay rent and buy groceries, you may die before paying off the debt. Like I said—“
“I’ll do it,” Hanamaki interjects, relaxing his shoulders but still sitting up straight. “Despite the cliché of me paying with my body, it’s really not the worst thing in the world. I’d prefer it over you hitting me, as well,”
“The deal has been made and that means from this moment on, you and your body will belong to me,” Matsukawa says, then moves behind Hanamaki. “I’ve the perfect spot for you to lie, as well,” he practically purrs in Hanamaki’s ear, nudging him up and forward. To the desk.
“Kinda expected the couch, but it’s better than the floor,” Hanamaki chuckles, only to then gasp as cool metal slides against his skin. It’s a knife, he’s sure of it, but as soon as it’s there, it’s gone again and his bound wrists are free. Completely focused on his surroundings, Hanamaki forgot about his bound wrists until suddenly they were no longer forced behind his back. Once free, Matsukawa spins him around traps him against the desk, his hand once more cupping his chin.
“You’re a cute one. Ever kissed someone?”
“When I was 10. Some girl was dared to kiss me, but not recently,” Hanamaki breathlessly whispers, eyes drawn to Matsukawa’s lips when they’re so close. Feeling his breath ghost over his lips has him wishing for things to move a bit faster, but Matsukawa won’t give him that satisfaction.
“Some dare to kiss you hardly counts. I meant a real one,” he says in response, but doesn’t encourage a reply when his lips press against Hanamaki’s, tilting his head as his hand moves to the back of Hanamaki’s head while his other hand slips beneath the cardigan and oversized t-shirt, feeling warm skin. With his lips melding against Hanamaki’s, he finds his fingers running through pink strands as the other slips into jeans and further down, making Hanamaki tense. A swipe over the bottom lip with his tongue and Matsukawa pulls away, licking away the small strand of saliva keeping them tethered. “Like that?”
Although Matsukawa was referring to his previous sentence, Hanamaki shakily sighed as he nodded, “I did,” making Matsukawa chuckle a bit. Removing his hand from Hanamaki’s hair and jeans, Matsukawa places him on the desk. “Pretty empty for a big desk. You usually take people’s virginities on desks?” Hanamaki jokes, hoping to lighten the heavy mood, obviously unfamiliar with such serious situations.
“Virginities?” Matsukawa asks, his hands stopping at Hanamaki’s thighs before squeezing as he smiles. “I’ve never gotten the opportunity to take someone’s virginity, actually. Only taken those who thought sleeping with me would save their skin. It didn’t, but that was because it was always their idea. You, on the other hand,” he says, hands once more moving to slide under Hanamaki’s t-shirt, “are in a one of a kind situation. I’ll make sure to treat you kindly.”
“Um, small request, if I may,” Hanamaki says, hands moving from Matsukawa’s shoulders to his hands, stopping them from sliding off his clothes. “Can I keep on my shirt? I don’t feel quite comfortable being so.. vulnerable. I understand if—“
“Granted,” Matsukawa cuts him off, hands still sliding against his skin but not aiming to strip him of his clothes. After all, the main focus isn’t making Hanamaki uncomfortable but rather to send him through throes of pleasure. Hands move down, curling around the hem of his jeans as Matsukawa presses his lips to Hanamaki’s jaw and neck, making the younger man sigh in bliss. When his pants are taken off, Hanamaki flushes as Matsukawa’s fingers then gently pry off his boxers. The simple act of sliding them down his legs is made more sensual as Matsukawa kisses down his body, only to stop at his hard cock. “Excited, are we?”
“Well, you’re very good at this,” he quips back, turning his head. Instead of huffing and puffing, Hanamaki soon finds himself biting his finger when Matsukawa’s tongue slides against his cock. “I didn’t think—“
“I’m quite familiar when it comes to pleasure. Sit back and relax,” Matsukawa says, wrapping his lips around Hanamaki’s cock before putting it all in his mouth. The ease of which he takes all of Hanamaki doesn’t go unnoticed, but he’s not bothered by it as much while his hands massage the meat on Hanamaki’s thighs. Hanamaki is more bothered by it, seeing as he lets out soft moans while his teeth bite on one hand and his other curls into Matsukawa’s hair. Whines come from him as his back arches, feeling Matsukawa’s tongue lap at the side of his cock, only to then take him all back into his mouth.
While Hanamaki is busy moaning and trying to not finish so quickly, Matsukawa digs into his drawer and takes out a large bottle of lube. Its top is easy to remove without needing to see, Matsukawa slipping a couple of fingers into the cool liquid before rubbing those fingers against Hanamaki’s puckered hole. The cool sensation has Hanamaki gasping, hand moving from his mouth to grasp at the edge of the desk while his other tightens it’s hold on Matsukawa’s hair. With some more lube applied, Matsukawa slides in one of his fingers while his tongue swirls around Hanamaki’s tip. The sensations all together has Hanamaki seeing stars, a sweet mewl as he finally finishes, right into Matsukawa’s mouth.
Through his pants, Hanamaki manages to give a small apology to Matsukawa, who wipes some excess cum off his lips before licking it, locking eyes with Hanamaki as he does. He also doesn’t stop fingering Hanamaki, moving his finger in and out of him while he continues to whine from the sensations. Taking his finger out, Matsukawa applies some more lube to his fingers and pushes in two at the same time, soon adding three while Hanamaki gasps and moans, hands latching onto Matsukawa’s covered shoulders.
Once Matsukawa has deemed him ready enough, Hanamaki feels his fingers leaving while he craves more. Wiping off his fingers with a nearby handkerchief, Matsukawa then finally unbuttons his shirt and tosses it to the side, letting Hanamaki see all the muscles underneath. Despite not seeming very strong, Matsukawa had plenty of defined muscles that flexed as he stripped himself of his shirt, as well as moving to unbuckle his belt and unzip himself. Hanamaki couldn’t wait to feel those muscles under his own fingertips.
Once free of his boxers, Matsukawa applies a generous amount of lube to his cock while Hanamaki practically trembles with excitement. The sheer size of Matsukawa makes him wonder if it’ll actually fit, seeing as three fingers can’t compare to the size, but he’s always been up for a challenge. As Matsukawa lines himself up, he takes Hanamaki’s chin in his fingers one last time. “I want you to look at me while I corrupt you. Can you do that for me, Hiro?”
With such an affectionate name, Hanamaki is blushing while nodding his head, completely transfixed on Matsukawa as he slides his cock in. It’s painful, the lube only helping to ease the pain a bit and Hanamaki screws his eyes shut for a moment, only to reopen them as the grip on his chin gets tighter. “I said eyes on me,” Matsukawa practically growled, eyes darkened as he focused his eyes on him once more. Hanamaki doesn’t dare break the eye contact again, even as he desperately wants to throw his head back or roll his eyes back when Matsukawa finally bottoms out. Stretched beyond his limits, Hanamaki is finally able to lay back on the desk when Matsukawa gives him a kiss, short and sweet, letting his face go afterwards. “How do you feel?”
“Full,” Hanamaki honestly says, moving his hips a bit as he softly mewls, “very full.”
“Good enough for me,” Matsukawa says, rearing his hips back before slamming into Hanamaki. He practically yelps from the force of Matsukawa’s thrust, his ass jiggling from the impact. His reaction pleases Matsukawa who simply keeps up the force behind each thrusts, hands planted on either side of Hanamaki as he looks down at the man, enjoying each facial expression that comes across his face. Hanamaki reaches up to grab Matsukawa, bringing him closer as his blunt nails dig into his defined back. Matsukawa groans at the feeling of Hanamaki trying to mark him up, pressing his lips to his neck while his hips never stutter. One of his hands move down to lift up Hanamaki’s leg, holding his leg in the crook of his elbow as it dangles behind him. The adjusted position has him hitting deeper inside and rubbing against Hanamaki’s prostate with each thrust. Sucking a hickey onto his skin, Matsukawa feels Hanamaki tremble under him as warm liquid coats the front of his chest.
Matsukawa slows down his thrusts while Hanamaki finishes his second orgasm, cock bouncing as it gushes out the last bit of cum. Hanamaki looks exhausted, but Matsukawa isn’t quite done. Removing himself has Hanamaki confused, only for a moment, before he’s picking him up and swiftly placing him in his lap, back on his cock. “You’re still so fucking hard,” Hanamaki whines, feeling Matsukawa’s cock rubbing against his prostate again.
“Well, I’ve been told I have quite the stamina. I’ll let you take a break once I’ve had my own release, how about that?” Matsukawa says, although his silky words are mixed with soft pants, using up some of his energy to fuck. Matsukawa spreads Hanamaki’s legs, his hands trailing up thick thighs until he’s able to get a good grip, having Hanamaki bounce on his lap. Hanamaki tries to help, positioning his hands on the arms of the chair to stabilize himself, but soon finds his arms are too weak to hold up even half of his weight. Matsukawa does all the work while Hanamaki brushes his fingers through his hair, almost encouraging Matsukawa’s lips to press against the other side of his neck, adorning the skin with kisses and hickeys.
When Matsukawa’s thrusts start to get weak, he stops moving Hanamaki and groans, getting up from the chair without disconnecting him and Hanamaki. Bending Hanamaki over the desk, they’re both finishing together as Matsukawa rubs Hanamaki’s hardened cock with his hand. Hanamaki moans as he feels Matsukawa fill him up with his seed, only to give an open-mouthed moan when he feels him leave, his winking hole gushing with seed spent.
Hanamaki sees Matsukawa zip himself up and put on his shirt, thinking he’ll have to clean himself up. However, he’s pleasantly surprised when Matsukawa’s hand is gently pushed against his back while a warm and wet towel is cleaning up his mess. “I think I was a bit too harsh on you, sorry,” Matsukawa finally says, breaking the silence as he finishes cleaning up everything. Hanamaki doesn’t respond very well, his mind too hazy and body too numb to really process what’s going on. “Hanamaki, hello?” Is the last thing he hears before he shuts his eyes for the rest of the night.

you're the one that brings the sun; chapter 1/6
Summary: Alex is prepared for every single variable except, apparently, the one in which his roommate is drop dead gorgeous and Alex is an absolute clusterfuck of a human being who falls for the first pretty boy on he sees on campus.
Willex roommate au!
Warnings: Swearing
Notes: The title is from the song “I Dare You” by the Regrettes. I’ve actually planned this fic out so here’s to hoping I don’t get burned out halfway through. It might end up having 6 or 7 chapters, 5 is kind of just an estimate.
---
When Alex was 11, his mother proudly plastered his report card to the fridge and exclaimed that one day, her little boy would go to Harvard. His father gripped his shoulder with pride and Alex beamed up at his parents like they’d just told him he had superpowers. 3 years later, he was 14 and teetering on the edge of failure in the majority of his classes. He wasn’t stupid by any means, just preoccupied. He’d started a band with his best friends and that felt like the most important thing in the whole world, and high school was new and scary, so it was easier to not pour all his focus into school. His parents’ smiles faltered but they kept up hope, Alex could tell. 2 years later, he stood shaking and crying outside of the Molina’s garage and suddenly, the concept of going to college begun to feel distant and fake. But he’s 18 now, and somehow, miraculously, gazing at the piles of boxes in the back of Ray’s car and swallowing down a lump in his throat.
It sure isn’t Harvard, but a part of Alex feels giddy at the fact that he’s attending a public college that was relatively easy to get into; oh his parents would be rolling in their proverbial graves. What didn’t make him quite so happy though, was the looming fact that he’d be living with some random person, because for some godforsaken reason, the college wouldn’t allow freshmen to choose their roomates. Some bullshit about meeting new people and socializing.
“Hey, ‘Lex. Dude, you’ll be fine.” Luke shakes his shoulders, before swinging one arm around him and the other around Reggie.
“Says the one who isn’t even going to college,” Alex grumbles, slipping from Luke’s grip and into the front seat of the car.
“Yea cause I don’t need it. Not my fault you’re both nerds,” Luke retorts.
“I’m not a nerd, I just like to have insurance-”
“Yea, back-up plan, safety net, heard it a million times. Reggie’s a nerd though.”
“Old news, dude,” Alex says.
“I am not a nerd!” Reggie protests indignantly.
“Tell that to your 2 years of college credit in math.”
Luke nods in agreement. “Nerd.”
“Math is fun!”
“You’re horrible.” Alex makes a mock gagging noise.
Julie comes bounding out of the house, her arms decked with various baked goods. She tosses herself in the backseat beside Reggie and Luke, looking quite pleased with herself at being able to force Luke to sit in the middle. “Tía was apparently up all night baking,” she explains, passing the sweets up to Alex. “Don’t be surprised if she shows up at your dorm with food every day.”
Alex snorts. “I would not object to that.”
Julie sighs, leaning back in her seat. “You guys are so lucky, I’m tired of high school. Damn September birthday,” Julie grumbles. Her birthday is just after the cut off date, so she would be 18 for the majority of senior year, but is just barely too young to be in the same grade as the boys.
Reggie leans over and pats her arm sympathetically, earning an offended squeak from Luke, who’s only pushed further into the back of the seat.
“Don’t worry!” Alex chirps sarcastically. “You get to spend more time with Luke, since he’ll be squatting in your garage!”
“Oh, joy,” Julie deadpans.
“I am not a squatter!” Luke protests, kicking the back of Alex’s seat.
“No kicking! I’m holding food!”
“Y’know Alex, you’ve been staying in the studio for 2 years, you’re not one to talk!” Luke argues.
“I have a job.”
“A stupid job.”
“A stupid job that gets you free coffee.”
Reggie nodds to that, chewing on a cookie. “Can’t risk losing your coffee privileges.”
Julie groans loudly and stuck her head out the window. “DAAAAD! Let’s goooo!” She cries.
“Wow, I didn’t know you wanted to get rid of me so badly,” Alex says, clutching his chest dramatically.
“Oh shut up Lexi, I just wanna meet your’s and Reggie’s new best friends!” Julie says, laughing.
“I’m not gonna be best friends with my roommate.”
“Yea, Alex forgot how to do that!”
“Luke I will smother you in your sleep!”
At this, Ray approaches the car with a raised eyebrow. “No one’s planning a murder, I hope?” He asks, chuckling as he slides into the drivers seat.
“No sir!” Reggie replies, grinning.
“Not yet,” Alex mumbles under his breath.
“Alright boys, who’s ready for college!” Ray says, starting the car.
“I’m gonna be sick.”
---
“And that’s the last of it!” Ray claps a hand over Alex’s shoulder and smiles encouragingly.
Alex nods tensely, gripping the strap of his fannypack tighter.
The dorm’s probably as good as he’s gonna get. One reasonably sized bedroom complete with two horribly uncomfortable beds, a kitchen with a fridge that was in no way large enough to fit even a weeks worth of meals, a tiny living room that would probably fit a couch and a TV at the most, and a bathroom that smelled suspiciously of mustard. Really it isn’t terrible, but Alex has a habit of noticing every little detail, especially the ones that could be a problem at some point. His roommate hasn’t arrived yet, so he’s standing amongst his various boxes, anxiety pulsing in his chest.
Julie grips his hand tightly and smiles, tears pricking the edges of her eyes. “Hey, Alex, you’re gonna be okay.” She squeezes his hand briefly.
Alex nods, exhaling shakily. “Yea, yea I know. It’s just…”
“A change, I know. But this is a good change. And-” she hauls Reggie and Luke over to them. “-we’re all here if you need to call someone and talk. And dad, and Tía, and I bet your roommate will be super cool.”
“Or a serial killer.”
“Just pray he’s not a football player,” Reggie stage-whispers, shuddering.
“God, don’t even suggest that!” Alex whines.
Encouragements and teary hugs are passed along, as well as a promise to meet at the Olive Garden nearby for dinner in a few hours, and then Alex’s posse is off to get Reggie settled, and Alex is left alone in the dorm. Alright.
Alex takes a deep breath, steeling himself, before beginning to wander the dorm. He’s anxious to start unpacking without his roommate and risk doing something that they wouldn’t like. Even choosing a bed feels wrong, he really doesn’t want to get off on the wrong foot with this person. But leaving the dorm meant people everywhere so that was a definite no. He sighs, lowering himself to the wooden floor and pulling out his phone.
“Yea… uh huh. Yes Caleb, I got here fine. No the Uber driver did not try and kidnap me. The boxes- the boxes are not too heavy. Okay. Okay. Yea, bye. Mhm.”
Alex looks up hesitantly upon hearing the voice nearing his dorm. The person standing in the doorway is well… less of a person and more of a large stack of boxes threatening to fall over any second. “Hello?” Alex stands up and makes his way to the boy stood in the entrance.
Said boy pokes his head out from behind his boxes and grins crookedly. “Hi, uh, I’m Willie!” And well, Alex is a goner. He swallows thickly, breath catching in the back of his throat. Willie attempts to adjust the boxes but ultimately fails, sending them tumbling to the ground amongst several muttered curses. “Well… nothing fragile in there,” he falters slightly. “I think.”
“Um…”
“Right! Sorry, uh.” Willie holds his hand out and Alex shakes it tentatively.
“Alex.”
“Alex, cool.” Willie smiles again, his dark eyes twinkling as he does so, smile lines popping out. He brushes his hair -which looks so soft and pretty- behind his ear to reveal a small golden hoop on his right lobe. Alex is dead, actually 100% dead. Because he’d been prepared for every single variable except, apparently, the one in which his roommate is drop dead gorgeous and Alex is an absolute clusterfuck of a human being who falls for the first pretty boy on he sees on campus.
Alex forces out a smile, all too aware that he’s still standing stiff and awkward in front of Willie, his grip on his fannypack tight enough to make his knuckles glow white. Then Willie coughs as some sort of attempt to fill the silence. “Sorry!” Alex squeaks. “Do you need help with the… the uh, boxes?”
“Oh yea, that’d be great!” Willie replies, beaming. “I don’t think there’s anything fragile in there, but y’know, my memory is absolute shit so if I broke some fancy china dishes I didn’t even know I owned, don’t be too shocked.”
Alex laughs anxiously. “Yea uh… I didn’t start unpacking cause I um… I didn’t want to claim a bed and stuff with-without your input?” His voice cracks at the end and he winces because Jesus fucking christ Alex.
Willie chuckles and Alex notes that he has the kind of laugh that echoes through your whole body and settles right in your heart. “ ‘S cool, man, I don’t mind.”
“Right, cool. Do you uh… are you okay if I take the bed farthest from the window? I’m not- not much of a morning person, and the window is… it’s east facing” Alex mutters, his gaze focused on his feet which are rocking back and forth at a rapid pace.
“Yea, of course,” Willie replies. “I don’t think I’ve woken up later than 8 in 5 years.”
“That’s horrific!” Alex cries, momentarily forgetting his anxiety. He steps back and blushes an even deeper red upon realizing how stupid he’s being. “I mean- I just… sorry, I just meant that-”
“You’re good, dude. I don’t bite.”
Alex cracks a tentative smile. “So uh… I’ll just start unpacking then.”
Willie shoots him a thumbs up and smiles once again, which is a thing he apparently does a lot.
An hour later, Alex’s belongings are unpacked and organized and the room feels a bit more his. He feels slightly lighter, exhaling and closing his eyes briefly. This isn’t so bad. Fiddling with the hem of his hoodie, he shuffles out into the living room where Willie is presumably unpacking. Except that he’s not.
Willie is laying upside down on a couch that somehow appeared while Alex was gone and he’s flipping through a tattered magazine while his belongings remain mostly unpacked.
“This quiz says that I should try roller skating,” Willie sniffs. “Some personality test this is- oh hey Alex!” He scrambles up so that he can look Alex in the eyes properly, and points to the magazine in his hand. “Found this in a box, not sure how it got there since I’ve never even subscribed to one of these, but there’s a chocolate chip cookie recipe in here.” He stops for a moment, pondering. “Personally I prefer peanut butter cookies, ooh especially fresh out of the oven. There’s this bakery near my house that-”
“Did you get… any unpacking done?” Alex asks, raising an eyebrow.
Willie looks around at his boxes and laughs sheepishly. “Well I unpacked one and opened 3 so… some, yes.”
“Where’d the couch come from?” Alex pokes the cushion warily, as if afraid that it’s full of bugs.
“Room across the hall,” Willie says, pointing. “They both brought couches and didn’t have room for two we got the one with more stains.”
“Right.” Alex’s reply is forced and tense, and he winces upon realizing. Truthfully, he hadn’t expected his roommate to become so comfortable so fast and he felt like he was several steps behind. Damn extroverts. Drumming his hands against his thighs, Alex slowly sits down on the other side of the couch, pointedly looking ahead instead of at Willie.
“So.” Willie scoots closer, sitting cross legged with his elbows on his thighs and chin resting in his palms. “What’s your major?”
Small talk, god Alex hates small talk. “Um, music,” he answers.
“Ah, that’s cool dude.” Willie nods.
“Uh, what about you?” Alex asks.
“Art,” Willie replies, grinning. “Be prepared for paint stains, like, everywhere.” He chuckles and nudges Alex’s shoulder playfully. Alex is going to implode, he’s sure of it.
Alex laughs awkwardly. “So uh… what’s wrong with rollerskating?”
Willie shoves his shoulder again. “Everything, dude! Well-” he cuts himself off, thinking. “-I just kinda suck at it, definitely better at my skateboard.” He jerks his head in the direction of a skateboard leaned against the wall and Alex wonders how he didn’t notice that.
“Oh, that’s- that’s cool. I rollerblade but I uh, I can’t skateboard to save my life.”
Somehow, they slip into a comfortable rhythm, and Alex notes that his anxiety no longer has him in a chokehold. Willie seems to have that affect; he’s just so… open. Alex doesn’t realize it yet, but he’s subconsciously created a folder in the back of his mind labelled “Willie,” and he doesn’t think he’s capable of forgetting anything Willie will ever say to him.
“- that’s why airplane food is just, horrible. Cause you basically lose like 30% of your tastebuds because of the elevation.” Willie smiles at Alex, gaging his response.
Alex would rather die than admit that he’s still trying to figure out how the topic of airplane food came up, so he just nods enthusiastically, actively stopping his eyes from dancing across Willie’s face, which is practically glowing in the evening sun. Evening. Shit. Alex pulls out his phone frantically. “Shit.” He says it out loud this time.
Willie’s brow furrows in confusion. “You good, dude?”
“Uh yea I’m just, I’m supposed to be meeting my fam- uh my friends for dinner and I have to be there in like 5 minutes.” He ignores the way Willie’s expression falls, convinced he’s just seeing things.
“Yea um, of course. I won’t keep you.” Willie stands up, his posture the stiffest that Alex has seen it in the whole 3 hours they’ve been acquainted for. “I’ll just… order a pizza.”
Alex hesitates in the doorway, weighing his options, which has never been his strong suit. “Do you want to join me?” He blurts impulsively. Willie looks at him in surprise. “I mean only- only if you want of course, we’ve only really uh, known each other for a few hours and you- you probably don’t want to, it was stupid. I’ll just- I’ll just go-”
“No! I’d… I’d like to, eating pizza alone in the dark sounds a little pathetic,” Willie responds.
Alex smiles genuinely. “Ok, ok that’s uh. Cool. That’s cool.”
---
Alex is already regretting this. The restaurant isn’t too crowded, he notices with a relieved breath. But it’s loud. It’s loud and yet only one group of people is talking. Alex doesn’t even need to guess who.
“Ok but- no- no- the whole song would be better!”
“Say banjo one more time, I dare you!”
“Banjo.”
“Julie, what the hell?! This is betrayal!”
“You stole my breadstick, it’s only fair.”
Alex coughs, quieting the table to a dull roar.
“Alex!” Julie pulls him down to sit next to her. “Oh? Who’s this?” Reggie is grinning wickedly and Luke waggles his eyebrows in a way that makes Alex want to shave them off.
“This is uh, my roommate Willie,” Alex responds, his voice raising an octave. “He didn’t have plans so I uh… I invited him, I hope that’s ok.”
“Of course it’s ok!” Julie pats the space on the other side of Alex and Willie sits down, appearing… oddly nervous.
“Congrats! Your Alex’s first new friend since,” Luke taps his chin, pretending to think. “7th grade.”
Alex’s face promptly falls into his hands. He’s seriously considering the whole, shaving Luke’s eyebrows in his sleep thing.
Reggie leans forward conspiratorially. “What’s your opinion on banjos?” He asks, making a point to ignore Luke’s dramatic complaining.
Willie raises his eyebrows, clearly confused. “Um. No comment?”
“I’m… sorry about them,” Alex says apolegetically. “Uh, this is Luke, Reggie, and Julie-” he gestures to each of them; Reggie waves, beaming happily. “-and Julie’s dad should be…” He trails off, looking around.
“He had to take a phone call, something about Carlos refusing to eat dinner until he proves the house is haunted,” Julie explains, clearly biting back a laugh.
“I… okay.” Alex shakes his head. “Are we waiting for more food or did Reggie eat it all?”
“Ha ha,” Reggie punctuates his statement by sticking out his tongue. “We’re waiting for the actual meals-”
“Yea Luke already ate the entire bread basket.” Julie shoots a glare in Luke’s direction.
“Well… you suggested we get hotdogs,” Luke grumbles, crossing his arms over his chest. “Payback.”
“Okay,” Julie laughs.
Willie leans over to whisper loudly to Alex, “What’s the story with the hotdogs?”
“Don’t tell him!” Luke cries, leaning across the table and slamming his palms down.
“We don’t talk of the hot-dogs,” Reggie mutters miserably.
“Food poisoning.” Alex shudders slightly. “Very bad food poisoning.”
“We almost died,” Reggie says, eyes widening. “Like, for real death. I’m pretty sure I was a ghost for a few seconds.”
“Reg, you were not a ghost,” Alex says, speaking like Reggie’s a 10 year old talking about monsters under his bed.
“I was!”
“You were not!”
“So,” Luke smiles mischievously, taking Reggie and Alex’s bickering as an opportunity to apparently torture the latter. Despite Alex’s warning glares, he turns to Willie with an innocent expression. “What kind of music do you like?”
“Luke,” Alex hisses, all too familiar with Luke’s antics.
“Hmmm.” Willie is painfully oblivious to Alex’s panicked expression as he mulls over his answer. “A lot of stuff really.” He shrugs. “Rock, pop, I like those lo-fi playlists when I’m trying to study.”
Luke nods, clearly pleased with the answer, but he isn’t done and Alex wants to hide under the table. He knows what’s coming next. “Thoughts on… drummers?”
“Luke.” Alex is seconds from lunging across the table.
“Drummers?” Willie asks, tilting his head confusedly.
“Yup,” Luke says, popping the p and still smiling like he’s some sort of innocent puppy-dog and not an absolute bastard.
“Hot,” Willie jokes. Alex can’t even hide the way he manages to choke on his own spit, and Luke and Reggie have never been great at subtlety, turning to Alex with matching shit-eating grins. Willie either doesn’t notice or is kind enough not to comment on it. “Yea, pretty sure young Roger Taylor was my gay awakening.”
Reggie is full on giggling now, and Alex’s entire face is gleaming a bright red. Willie glances around the table, puzzled.
“Mhm.” Luke nods before swiftly turning to Alex. “Hey Alex, by the way, you left your drumsticks in the car, do you need them back?” His voice is sickeningly sweet, coated in some sort of poisoned honey. It’s Willie’s turn to choke on nothing, failing to disguise it as a spontaneous coughing fit.
“Fine,” Alex squeaks as he sinks further down in his seat. If he pulls out his phone and messages Luke a flurry of threats, that’s no one’s business. He dares a glance at Willie, who has become quite fascinated with his hands, which are tapping out a mindless rhythm on the table, his cheeks and the tips of his ears dusted red.
Needless to say, Alex makes sure Luke doesn’t even get to look at the next bread basket.

If The World Was Ending Chapter Eleven: Waking Up Slow
Read on AO3.

“Heaven help me My mind changes like the wind Please excuse me I don't know where to begin
But I didn't think I cared I could be your friend But I'm unprepared Oh, I've never felt like this
I was unaware That you were lighting flares Now I'm running scared Oh, how did it come to this?...”
~Waking Up Slow (Piano version) - Gabrielle Aplin

‘BUCK!’
Buck lifted his head and saw Christopher, he was barely hanging onto a cement light post as the water ripped at him like dark, reaching hands.
‘CHRIS!’ he shouted as he tried to swim toward him, before he was dragged under. But it didn’t matter how much he kicked his legs and moved his arms, he couldn’t get any closer.
‘HELP, BUCK!’
The water pulled at Chris and his little fingers were slipping and Buck felt desperation start to fill his chest when nothing he did could get him to the little boy. ‘PLEASE!’ he sobbed, seeing Chris’s frightened face as he reached one small hand toward him.
Then the water rushed forward and ripped him from reach and from view.
“NO!” Bucked screamed as he shot up in bed, eyes flying open. He searched the dark room, but he was alone in his loft. His chest was heaving, feeling his heart racing in his chest, but there was no water and he knew Chris was safe. Even so, he wanted to reach for his phone and call Eddie, since he knew he was home right now.
The only thing that stopped him was that it was his first day off after a 48-hour shift, and Eddie needed to rest. Hell, Buck had had Chris during that first 24-hours before Carla had come back to stay with him for the other day. Buck would have honestly been more than happy to take care of him both days, but Eddie had insisted that it was Carla’s job and that Buck didn’t have a job anymore so he couldn’t keep wasting money taking him out.
Buck knew Eddie hadn’t meant it maliciously, but the words stung more than he was willingly to admit, to be reminded that he was no longer a firefighter. Also, Buck wasn’t worried about money, since he kept getting his worker’s comp checks, and his savings consisted of all the money his grandparents had left him. They hadn’t agreed with their parents way of raising him and Maddie, especially how they’d cut her off when she’d married Doug. So, they’d cut them out of their wills and left it all to Buck and Maddie.
They’d been furious.
As for Buck, he didn’t care about the money. All her ever cared about was for his parents’s love and acceptance. He’d never gotten it.
Buck knew he was too keyed up to try going back to sleep, so he decided to take a shower to wash off the sweat. As he was coming out, his phone playing his Mellow playlist, it cut off in the middle of the James Bay song he was listening to. He immediately answered when he saw that it was Tony.
“So, you’re still alive?” Buck asked, a relieved grin on his face despite himself. His hair was still damp, and he’d yanked on some sweats and a t-shirt. The blonde man let himself fall on his bed, cell phone still against his ear. It had been two days since Tony had left, and he’d only received a single text from the man since then.
“Yeah... bruised and bettered, but still alive,” Tony groaned on the other end. There was shuffling on his end, followed by a clanking and then he heard JARVIS voice clearly stating that he needed someone else to stitch his wound.
“You’re trying to stitch your own wound?” Buck asked incredulously. “Don’t you have a tower with a medical floor?” He sat up now, worried for Tony and his apparent idiocy. And Buck thought he was a dumbass.
Tony fumbled with something as he grumbled. “I didn’t call to get lectured, Ev.”
Buck nodded with a sigh, running a hand down his tired face. He hadn’t gotten a lot of sleep in the last two days, mostly because of nightmares. While the ladder truck bombing had given him his share of nightmares, the tsunami and losing Chris during the natural disaster was something worse. So, he was feeling a bit irritable at the moment.
“Then why did you call then?” He didn’t want Tony to think all he’d do was nag at him, as if he was his... well, his boyfriend or something. That had ended a while ago. “I can exactly help you stitch your wound with you being all the way in New York.”
Tony was quiet for a few seconds. “Well, I’m not exactly in New York,” he admitted at last. He heaved his own sigh and did something that gave a sort of ripping sound, and then hissed as Buck heard a smack. “I’m right outside L.A. in a SHIELD safe house.”
“And there’s no one there to help you?” Buck asked, already starting to stand up. He looked for his wallet and the keys to the rental the insurance company had given him, since his Jeep was a total loss and were in the process of getting a estimate and issuing him a check. He had insisted on getting his Jeep back, for sentimental reasons and it didn’t matter if they didn’t give him a check. Buck didn’t want a new vehicle, wanted to fix up his Jeep.
“I’m not exactly supposed to be here,” Tony admitted. He kicked at something on his end. “By the looks of things, no one’s been here in months.”
“Where are you?” Evan asked as he climbed down to the ground level and out of his building.
“What? Why?” He paused and listened, obviously having heard him get in his car and start the engine. “No, Ev, I’m fine. You don’t have to come here.”
“J, are you there? Send Tony’s location to my phone.”
‘Yes, Mr. Buckley, sending it now.’
“JARVIS, you traitor! I will donate you to a community college!” Tony snapped with no real heat in his voice. If anything, he sounded more tired than angry.
“I’m on my way, you idiot,” Buck laughed. He heard Tony curse, but he didn’t tell him to stay away. Buck took that as a win.
- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
The house wasn’t much to look at, and ‘a shack’ would be a better description for it. Buck didn’t see the armor, but figured it was inside with Tony. He didn’t even bother to knock and entered through the door, which Tony had probably left unlocked for him. It could also be because he didn’t expect anyone to come attack him, so whatever had caused his injury had probably been taken care of. If not, Tony wouldn’t have allowed JARVIS to give Buck his location.
“Tony?”
“In the kitchen,” he heard the man call.
A few moments later he entered what could maybe be called a kitchen. The table looked like anything more than the first aid kit resting on it would make it collapse, so did the two chairs that were the only thing in the room. It didn’t look like it had been stepped in for ages, judging by the dust over everything, the grimy stove and the refrigerator that was probably from the eighties, possibly the seventies. There was likely no food inside, and the sink and the faucets of it were rusted, so there was possibly no water.
Buck moved over and soon he was standing over Tony, who was sitting in one of the rickety chairs. He had a black eye that was almost swollen shut, several cuts and bruises all over his face and exposed torso, since he was shirtless. Tony also had a bandage taped against his left side, just out of where he could comfortably reach, and it was quickly being stained by blood. “You’re fine, huh?”
Tony scowled up at him past his rapidly swelling eye, and the armor silently standing behind him in sentry mode showed the dent on the face plate where he’d been hit. “I am,” he insisted. He indicated the bandage. “I managed to tape it up.”
“And JARVIS thinks you need stitches,” he said, removing his light jacket and hanging it on the other chair. “Turn this way,” he instructed as he pulled the chair with his jacket closer. He had to sit close to be able to examine the wound, and he shook his head when he pulled the bloody bandage off. “I’m a firefighter, not a paramedic, and even I know this needs stitches.”
“Well, take a crack at it, if you want,” Tony told him petulantly. He didn’t seem to happy with being seen like that, but he’d seen Evan like that so he didn’t know what his problem was. In fact, he’d been worse, but then again, he’d been eighteen at the time, almost nineteen. So, he guessed it was different.
Buck shook his head and yanked the first aid kit closer, which he’d obviously been trying to use by the blood smeared on the side of it. “I’d normally leave you to your stupidity, but then JARVIS would be upset,” he snarked back.
Of course, he wouldn’t actually do it, since he’d come all this way to help him. Buck cared about Tony, even when he was being snappish. They were both quiet as he worked, Buck having slipped on some gloves, and Tony grunted in pain when the needle first pierced the skin, but then his only response afterwards was a few flinches or his shoulders twitching for the next six stitches. “All done,” he said, cleaning the excess blood and tossing it all in the trash can Tony had obviously dragged closer. There wasn’t even a bag inside of it.
“Thanks,” Tony finally said after a moment of silence. His face was tired and Buck wondered how much sleep he’d gotten since the two days he’d seen him. The bags under his eyes told that it had likely not been much, so he probably felt as bad as Buck did.
“Are you staying here?” Buck asked, looking around distastefully at the grime and dust that covered every surface. He was sure the rest of the... structure was just as bad, or worse. At least it was only one floor, since he was quite sure anything higher might have collapsed by now. Then again, if it belonged to a secret spy organization, then it was probably reinforced to keep it standing. Buck wasn’t too keen on testing that theory out.
“I can’t really fly without fixing the helmet,” he said. Buck took that to mean that it was damaged enough that he might not be able to even use it. “I’ll have... Pepper send me the jet.”
“Or I could take you home,” Buck blurted out, not really thinking on what he was saying.
“I.. do have a penthouse in LA,” Tony mused out loud. Then he quickly shook his head. “No, never mind, I think it was damaged in the tsunami.”
“I meant take you to my apartment,” Buck clarified. He was amused as Tony’s gaze snapped up in shock toward him. “It’s not like we haven’t shared a bed before.” He tried to keep the smirk off his face as he saw Tony’s face start to get a bit red. Buck hadn’t even know it was possible to make Tony Stark blush.
“I don’t... want to be a burden,” Tony said, almost stuttering. Buck was enjoying this way too much. “I don’t really have a change of clothes.”
Buck shrugged as he leaned forward, seeing Tony’s Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed nervously. “You can just borrow some of mine,” he said, making a show of checking his bandage, but he wanted to tease him a little. He’d always enjoyed flexing his flirting skills, and there was no one better for that than Mr. Tony “smooth-talking-charm-anyone” Stark. Then again, Tony had been Maddie’s friend since they were 14 and 16 respectively, Buck having been 10 at the time. It was the year before he started at MIT, and three years before his parent’s automobile accident.
He’d been a mess back then, alcohol and drugs and between Maddie and his friend Rhodes they’d helped him the best way they could. As for Buck, he had met Tony briefly but not entirely, and during that time he’d been thirteen. They hadn’t properly met until he was 16 (almost 17) and Tony had been 20, at a charity event that Charles Buckley actually donated to. Buck was convinced that it was just to keep up appearances, but it had benefited Buck that he could finally meet Maddie’s friend, Tony Stark.
Buck had been smitten almost immediately but Tony had refused the young man’s advances until he was actually 18. By then Buck had long known he was bisexual and knew exactly what and who he wanted, and he had wanted Tony. It was cliche that on his eighteenth birthday they’d finally fallen into bed together, but that’s what had happened, almost like a fairytale if one was being extra sappy and cheesy.
Then Charles Buckley had found out eight months into their relationship, and Buck had ended it to spare himself from his father’s bigoted, homophobic rage. He’d moved to LA a month after he turned nineteen.
Now here he had him once again and all those feelings he’d never gotten over were returning with a vengeance, despite his feelings for Eddie. He’d been hiding them well, hiding himself out of fear still, but it became harder now with Tony here. Because while he wasn’t sure that Tony had ever loved him, Buck was sure the man had been his first love, and you never got over your first love.
“Come home with me,” he told him, fingers coming to rest on his knee.
Tony’s eyes moved to the hand on his knee before they lifted to meet his eyes. “Yea-”
The sound of the front door being kicked in made them both freeze, and the armor turned as the repulsors charged with a whine. Buck stood and faced the open doorway even as Tony hissed at him to get back. There was no way he’d do that, not with Tony being injured.
They both tensed as an imposing figure entered their line of sight, a very familiar shield in front of them. “Tony?” he asked in confusion.
“Rogers,” Tony sighed as he slumped back in his chair. He winced a moment later and Buck wanted to immediately check the stitches, but he hadn’t moved from his position, which was between Tony and this man. “It’s alright, he’s a... not a threat.”
Buck’s eyes narrowed on the man, trying to place him, and definitely not trusting him in the slightest. “Why’re you kicking in the door?” Buck asked him as his eyes not once leaving him as he walked further inside the kitchen.
“Because this is a SHIELD safe house and someone broke into it,” he said, as if that explained that all. “I work with SHIELD.”
Buck opened his mouth to respond, not sure why this man got his hackles up, but paused as Tony’s hand touched his elbow. He glanced at the man, scoffed and backed off, physically and metaphorically as he sat in the rickety chair once again. “I’m surprised there’s even security system for this shack,” Tony told the man. He seemed to know him, whoever he was.
“It’s a low frequency alarm, which is why we only got here,” a woman said as she walked in after the man. Buck hadn’t even heard her come in she was so quiet. “I’m surprise you didn’t realize there was an alarm.”
Tony grunted as he put on his shirt carefully. “I didn’t really check,” he admitted. “I was preoccupied with other things.” He stood. “We’ll be leaving now.”
“You’re hurt?” the man asked, brow furrowed. “Do you need assistance?” He’d stepped forward and his blue eyes narrowed as Buck tensed and half rose out of his seat.
“He’s fine, I took care of him,” he said.
The man, Rogers as Tony had called him, frowned. “And you are?”
Tony opened his mouth, but Buck cut him off. “Buck,” he said, holding a hand to him. And even as he smiled at him, there was no warmth in the expression. “A firefighter with LAFD.”
Rogers hesitated a moment, seeming to stiffen at the mention of his name. He eventually took his hand, grip firm as he shook it. “Steve Rogers. That’s an interesting name.”
Buck shrugged as he released his hand and tipped his head at the woman, who hadn’t bothered to introduce herself. Except, she really didn’t have to now that Buck new the man’s name. He was Captain America and that must mean she was Natasha Romanov, the Black Widow, who had wandered closer to Tony to check him over. Tony just waved her off. “It’s actually Evan Buckley, but everyone just calls me Buck.”
Tony stood as well now. “Well, not that this hasn’t been swell,” he snarked, “but I’m eager to get into Ev’s bed.”
Rogers sputtered and Tony only grinned and didn’t correct what he must be thinking. He moved past them all, and Buck nodded as he also left the room. The suit, being controlled by JARVIS, followed right behind. As they exited the shack, he saw the jet parked close by, a dark shadow in the gloom.
Tony had already slipped into the passenger seat and Buck wasted no time in getting into the car as well. “So, did I just meet Captain America and the Black Widow, or did I imagine that?”
“No,” Tony huffed a laugh, “you didn’t.”
Buck nodded as he started his car. “And did you just make those same people think we were about to have sex?”
Tony smirked and Buck laughed as he shifted the car into drive and headed back toward the city. “You’re terrible.”
“I try my best,” Tony quipped back.-

Zimbits 32 “You could have died.”
Bitty tucked his laptop in his messenger bag and tried to tiptoe out of the bedroom without waking Jack. No one should be up at 5:30 in the morning – Bitty included himself in that thought, but last night staying with Jack seemed more important than getting to sleep until 6:30 and still make it to seven o’clock practice – and Jack had a game tonight.
It almost worked, until the edge of Bitty’s bag caught the door and bounced off the doorstop. That was enough for Jack to roll over and crack an eye open.
“Leaving already, bud?” he asked, voice raspy from sleep.
“I have to, sweet pea, or I’ll be late for practice,” Bitty said, going back to the bed to lean down and give Jack a kiss. “Love you. Talk after the game?”
Jack mumbled something affirmative and buried his face in Bitty’s pillow.
At least Bitty could take the car and not have to depend on trains and buses or have to do fifty minutes in a rideshare. Jack first suggested buying him a car last summer when Bitty was living in Providence, but Bitty was adamant that a car, even a used car, was too big of a gift.
“I couldn’t,” Bitty said. “My mama and daddy would have a fit, and besides, I can’t afford the insurance and all. And don’t just say you’d pay for that too.”
So Jack had simply gone out and bought himself a second car, a new Prius, and handed the second set of keys to Bitty.
“It’s my car,” Jack said. “But you have blanket permission to drive it whenever you want. And I made sure my insurance would cover you.”
Bitty had squawked, but Jack pointed out that lots of his teammates had two cars, and he didn’t need to have his SUV just to run errands. Then over the summer Bitty got used to having a car when he needed one. He didn’t keep it at Samwell all the time, but knowing he could make the drive from Providence in less than an hour made it easier to see Jack mid-week. Which was important, since neither of them usually had weekends off.
Bitty connected his phone to the car’s speakers, started a peppy playlist to keep himself awake, and headed north. Traffic wasn’t bad this early, so he should even have time to grab a coffee.
Jack’s phone was making noise. It was still dark. His alarm shouldn’t have been going off yet. Did he forget to change it for a game day?
No, not his alarm. That was his phone actually ringing. He grabbed it and looked at it. Bitty? He shouldn’t have made it back to Samwell yet. Maybe he had car trouble?
“Hello? Bits, you okay?”
“Excuse me, with whom am I speaking?”
“Who is this?” Jack’s confusion was rapidly dissolving into fear.
“This is Sergeant Zach Terry with the Massachusetts State Police, and your number is the emergency contact on this phone, which belongs to –”
“Bitty.”
“I’m sorry?”
“Eric Bittle. What happened? Is he okay?”
“First could you confirm your identity, sir.”
“Jack Zimmermann.”
The police officer continued as though he didn’t recognize Jack’s name.
“Mr. Bittle was in a car crash,” he said. “He’s being taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center. The car he was driving – a 2016 Toyota Prius – is registered in Rhode Island in your name –”
“They’re taking him to the hospital?” Jack said. “So he’s alive?”
“I can’t share medical information,” Sgt. Terry said. “The ambulance left here about 20 minutes ago. You can call the hospital, but unless you can demonstrate that you are family –”
“I’m his emergency contact –”
“On his phone,” the sergeant said, not unkindly. “If he’s conscious, he can allow them to share information with you.”
If he’s conscious? Shit, shit, shit, shit.
“In the meantime, sir, once the accident investigation is complete, what do you want to do with your car?” the sergeant said. “It’s going to be totalled, I’m sure of that, but it’s got to go somewhere.”
His car. Who cared? But it hit something. Someone? Or someone hit it?
“I don’t care about the car,” Jack said. “I’ll call my agent, they’ll deal with it. What happened? Was anyone else hurt?”
“The deer that caused the whole mess,” the sergeant said. “And the other driver that swerved to avoid it and hit your car was also injured. He was transported to the local hospital.”
So he wasn’t hurt as badly. Fuck. Jack should be happy someone wasn’t going to a trauma center, unconscious and alone, but he couldn’t bring himself to care.
If he wanted information, who would they give it to? Bitty’s parents? He should call them anyway. But Jack looked at himself, sunk onto his bedroom floor with his back against the bed, hands shaking.
He looked at his phone again, searching the contacts.
“Shitty? It’s Bitty.”
Bitty awoke to a pounding headache and the sense that he was somewhere he wasn’t supposed to be. The sheets were scratchy, and the light was too bright and he was flat on his back instead of curled up with Senor Bun.
He tried to turn to his side and found he couldn’t. Also his left shoulder and side were on fire.
“Bits?”
Jack. Jack was here. Was he hurt too?
“What happened?” Bitty asked. “Where are we?”
“UMass hospital,” Jack said, as Bitty slowly turned only his head to the other side. “Worcester. You were in a car accident this morning.”
“Your car –”
“Is not something I’m worried about now,” Jack said. “At all. How’re you feeling?”
“Hurts,” Bitty said.
“Yeah, I imagine,” Jack said. “You were in and out a few times, but they gave you some pain meds, so you probably don’t remember.”
Bitty stared at the ceiling, trying to recall. Nope. Nothing about being in this hospital. Or … a car accident?”
“What happened?” Bitty said. “I have no idea how I got here.”
“You were driving back to Samwell this morning,” Jack said, and Bitty started to nod but stopped because it made his head swim.
“I remember that. Early practice.”
“Yeah, you, um, didn’t make it to practice,” Jack said. “Someone swerved to avoid a deer near Uxbridge and they lost control and hit you in the driver’s side. Got the deer anyway, too.”
“I’m sorry,” Bitty said. “I didn’t –”
“Don’t,” Jack said. “Don’t apologize. You were driving up the highway not doing anything wrong, and some idiot drove into you. Doesn’t everyone know you don’t swerve to avoid a deer because you could cause a worse accident? You might have died.”
“But if I hadn’t driven back this morning …”
“This is not your fault,” Jack said. “It’s not your fault, and it’s not my fault for insisting that you should drive the car. I could have gotten up and taken you in the truck.”
Even in his cloudy state, Bitty got what Jack was saying.
“Sweetpea, maybe it’s not my fault but it most certainly isn’t yours,” he said. “Who’s to say we both wouldn’t have been in the hospital then?”
Jack snorted at that. “Not likely. I don’t have your lead foot.”
“Haha,” Bitty said. “Have they told you what’s wrong with me? Concussion, I’m pretty sure.”
“Yeah, once your parents told them they could let me in and talk to me,” Jack said, trying not to be bitter. At least they had allowed the hospital to pull him into the loop. It was just that they had to in the first place that rankled. “They’ll be here in a couple of hours, by the way. So, concussion, laceration to the side of your face, dislocated left shoulder, badly bruised ribs. They were afraid they were cracked, but you avoided that.”
“Ugh,” Bitty said. “How long before I can skate?”
Jack shrugged. “Too soon to tell,” he said. “Couple weeks at the very least, and longer for contact. But probably not the whole season. I should call your manager – or Hall directly. He’ll want to come see you now you’re awake, too.”
“Now – what time is it?” Bitty asked.
“About three,” Jack said.
“In the afternoon?”
Jack nodded, and Bitty could see how exhausted he looked. He was dressed in full Burger-King-robber getup, dark track pants and hoodie, he hadn’t shaved and the pallor of skin only emphasized the dark circles under his eyes.
“Shouldn’t you be sleeping?” Bitty said. “You have a game.”
“I’m not playing tonight,” Jack said. “I’m scratched for a family emergency.”
“Family, huh?” Bitty couldn’t help but smile.
“Family,” Jack said. “They’ll probably let you go either tonight or tomorrow morning. I’ll stay here until I can take you home with me.”

Commitment
Years ago...
I was still living at home but @cynicaldom knocked on my door.  I opened the door excited to see him but his expression was weird. I instantly knew something big was wrong. It took a minute or two at most before he managed to tell me, but my mind goes spinning so quickly that I thought of several possibilities. Were his parents okay? Who got hurt? Did someone in his family pass way? Did he get in a car accident? So many things went through my head but none of them had anything to do with me or my family. We had only been dating for four months.
One of my family members had called him and told him some devastating news about our family, and asked him to tell me. This family had my phone number and lived 10 minutes away from me. Yet she told him. I assume she told him only to avoid having to tell me herself. I still feel like that was wrong, to put that sort of weight and responsibility on my boyfriend’s shoulders. We were so young and our relationship was still relatively new. It was hard for him to tell me, yet I don’t know that he minded the responsibility even back then. He hated saying the words that broke my heart but he did it. I was just in shock at first. I froze. So much confusion. so many emotions, and so little logical thoughts. Just a ball of noise in my head.
I tried to run to the bathroom to hide, to cry. He followed me, and sat on the floor with me. I remember staring at the wall, the outdated design of my bathroom at the time had ugly gold glitter streaks on the otherwise white wall. I was so overwhelmed and confused that I just stared at that design on the wall through my tears.
Eventually, when my brain started working again, he started trying to feed me hope, possible outcomes that may not be the one that it looked like would happen, alternatives to the one we were all fearing. I started to hear him. I was still terribly afraid. Devastated. Lost.
Two days later was Valentine’s day. Our first Valentine’s day. He brought me fast food, and a slushy (my favorite), and candy that night. We stayed home and watched a movie and tried to make the most of it. It was sweet and endearing in its own way, but it was far from the happy, sweet day it ‘should’ have been. I wondered why he chose me. I wondered why this “baggage” that came with me was worth it to him. I wondered why my messy family and its impact on me, my messy emotions, this messy first valentine’s day didn’t turn him away. Surely there was an easier route he could take.
It meant a lot to me at the time, of course. I had no idea that 10 years later I would be looking back at it remembering how it showed me his commitment. His willingness to show up and face hard things, to take responsibility even if it’s not really his, to do whatever needed done to find a way through life with me.
A bit later he showed me his commitment again when he said we should get an apartment together so that I wouldn’t have to move in with a toxic family member. That’s when I really, fully felt like it was the two of us against the world. A few months after we had moved, my sister-in-law told me that my dad had told her he was worried about me moving out, especially under the rushed circumstances that had occurred. She said she told him that she wasn’t worried, that she could tell that CD and I were serious enough about each other that we would figure it out together. I had felt that way for a while, but hearing the observation from someone else was an incredible compliment.
Those were the first two big shows of commitment in my mind, but there are so many others after that and throughout our whole relationship. When our roommate was a total weenie, CD made last-minute plans to find a new apartment for us, for the second time. He’s supported me through PTSD, anxiety and depression for years. When I had seizures he stayed by my side, refusing to leave the hospital room. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve heard him raise his voice at others, but one of them was with a health insurance person after those seizures, as he fought to try to get me the care he thought I needed. He uses google and YouTube to figure out how to fix problems from our vehicle trouble, to the washing machine, to plumbing leaks. He’s accepted my apologies for various mistakes and poor choices over the years. He apologizes for his own mistakes, too. He reminds me that the world isn’t actually ending though he understands that to me it genuinely feels like it is each time I get PMS. He listens to me rant and cry when I get emotional about things that don’t even affect our lives and while he regularly encourages me not to take on responsibility for other people’s decisions, he doesn’t criticize how emotional I can be about them. He’s been my biggest fan with my little business for years, and he’s never complained about the ups and downs and general inconsistencies that being self-employed has on our finances and our lives in general. When I wake up screaming from a nightmare, the second I realize I’m awake I’m looking for him because I know that if he isn’t at my side yet, he’s on his way to me. He’s been to countless doctor’s appointments with us since my dad got cancer. He’s stood in line in our tiny town where everyone knows everyone buying adult diapers for my dad. He gets up at 4am for work while I sleep in and make my own hours and work my dream job.
I’m still surprised at how he handles the tough times. Growing up, I saw stress as something that ruined intimacy, that caused partners to turn on each other, as a cause to try start flinging blame back and forth. We’ve certainly been short and snappy with each other when we’re stressed sometimes, when we’re hurt, sometimes we turn inward to lick our own wounds instead of being as present as we should be for the other. We’re imperfect. His commitment to me and to us is always obvious to me though. The hard parts of life don’t leave me feeling untethered because his commitment and dedication to us has shown me over and over and over again that we always find a way through together, whatever comes our way.
I think this sense of commitment is a huge piece of our D/s, even though it hasn’t been particularly intentional. Getting through the tough times together deepens our trust, our sense of true partnership, our sense of security, and our ability to be open and vulnerable with each other.  All of these things enable my submission in a huge way, because his commitment shows me that I can rely on him. So when the house floods, or when we are house-hunting, or when we rush to the hospital to support a loved one, I still look to him to lead. It feels like a weird thing to say about difficult times, but I think his Dominance often shines brightest in the dark moments. I don’t think anything is more important to him than taking care of what is his, so he stands up in a big way when storms come our way. I’m so grateful that I belong to him.

Unfortunate
I will be 35 in a couple months and I’ve never felt more lost in my life. I’ve never felt more disconnected to everything the way I feel now. To me it’s like nobody gets me. I am a ball full of rage and that’s all folks see but the life i’ve had, the life i’m living, yes i’m angry as shit. Who or what am I angry at? That is the answer i’m searching for. Could it be from the constant pain i’m in? You know I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia back in 2013. I was on pain meds from 2009 when I decided that I was becoming addicted to those pills. But that’s neither here or there. I live in constant pain. Ibuprofen doesn’t do nothing. Therapy used to help but you need insurance for that. I haven’t had insurance since I was married (under hers of course) and now if I do do anything with a doctor it’s usually me paying out of pocket.
This is what I read from wedmd it says:  Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.
Can fibromyalgia cause mood swings? Depression or anxiety may occur as a result of your constant pain and fatigue, or the frustration you feel with the condition. It is also possible that the same chemical imbalances in the brain that cause mood changes also contribute to fibromyalgia.
That’s just an idea of what I deal with everyday. And that’s just what I do, deal with it. Folks that know I go through pain always say things like “go to the doctor”, “go get that checked out”, etc. but that is coming from a “have” position.
I grind for every little penny I make. I work late nights when I don’t want to. I work for companies I despise, not because I want to, but because I have to. I do all that and still have nothing. I have access to a car, I have access to a house but what do I have? I have 4 beautiful kids that are where they are because of their mothers.
I move the way I do because I honestly don’t trust anybody. What I don’t trust is the judgement folks bring behind their words. I don’t trust how I will react. If I had it my way I wouldn’t talk to anybody but a therapist and when I feel I’m ready I will do that. That can’t happen though. I have kids that I have to support in every way possible.
Why do folks always tell me pray? Folks always want to throw their beliefs and things in my face like that means anything to me. Just because God has done things for you, God is this and that in your eyes, doesn’t mean that everybody else views are similar. Ill tell you some experiences that make me question God.
If you have never lost a parent, it’s hard for me to hear anything you tell me about what God has got you through. Losing a parent is soul crushing, it gives you a feeling that only a person who has lost a parent can feel. I have lost friends and even my Grandmother, the pain is not even close. I lost my Dad at 12 years old. I remember the morning my mom came in my room and sat on my bed and told me. I have days where I think about him heavy, I mean to the tune where I get teary eyed. The part that hits me is that out of all the memories I remember my dad in, the lasting picture I see associated with him in my head is the one where he is laying in his casket. A part of me ask myself why would my mom take me to see him like that? No I don’t mean literally but I now at the age I am, that the last picture I want to see of anybody is in a casket.
The day my father died I think that may have also been the day I lost my faith in family. I’ve always felt like the outlaw in my family. I think that’s why deep down inside i’m really a loner. It’s basically what I’ve been since young. Wasn’t no eating at no dinner table. I got my food and went in my room and ate and that was growing up. There was no struggle growing up. Maybe a little but not like how some kids grew up. We always had food in the fridge and a roof over our heads. Our family had vehicles so we didn’t count on public transportation. Though all that I still never feel like i was wanted or belonged. It’s a feeling i’ve always felt with my mother. Sometimes i wonder is it because of how my father did her? Is it cause I “look just like him” or “am no different than my father” (my moms words)? I will never know but it does sit there and hit me sometimes. My mom is the tough mom. I’ve maybe heard my mom say “I love you” to me maybe 3x in my life. I mean its not something I say to her either. It’s just not something I was use to growing up. I use to see my friends hug their parents when I was younger and would just look in amazement like damn. I really believe its a big reason for my nonchalant/not caring attitude. A big part of that has rubbed off on me with my kids, I know I need to be more affectionate, but I guess you are how you grew up so as long as they are healthy and i’m there it eases my heart. I know when you grow up without that love from your family you grow up to have a hear like me.
You know I always knew my mom and step father always looked down on me. 2 weeks I was over talking to them and at the age of 34 they both basically said to my face they thought I wasn’t gonna be shit in life and where I am not isn’t shit. Hurt like never before. I swallowed it. Did I get mad? Nope. Last weekend i’m over there and start talking politics and me and my step father get into a heated argument and a scuffle. Am I mad? Nope. Life goes on
I just wanted something to start off this blog with….i guess i just started typing what’s on my mind.

A Bundle of Secrets Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Cameron walked back into the archive with a goofy love-struck grin on his face. “Did you and Kay finish your little make out session?”
Cameron gave Jonathan a look, “Really? Really?”
“Well, you walked out with her alone and it took a while for you to simply walk her to her car.”
“Where are the others?”
“Dina’s gone off to get some groceries so she walked Mike out and Gunter and Jordan are debating on what to feed Farrah for dinner.”
Cameron smirked, “Really? They’re debating about baby food now?”
“Well, Jordan is still after his twenty bucks and thinks that she would like sweet potatoes more than carrots.” Johnny smirked as he bounced Farrah up and down in his arms. He smiled as the child giggled and tried kicking her legs, “I think you want to walk, don’t you?”
Jonathan kneeled on the floor as he had Farrah grip his hands as he held her upright. Cameron took out his phone, “I gotta get this.”
Farrah wobbled a bit as she moved her right leg forward a bit. “It’s okay Farrah, you can do this. It’s just practice.” Jonathan said as Farrah moved her left leg, “If you can’t do it yet, we can always try again later. I’m right behind you.” Farrah started taking tiny steps as Johnny shuffled slowly behind her just in case she fell back. She smiled at Cameron before she bent her knees and sat back down.
Cameron smiled as he saved the video, “I think we just captured her first steps.”
“Well, we still haven’t looked through all of Shawn and Fiona’s home videos but... I think so too.” Johnny said, picking up his niece off the floor, “Think she can talk?”
“Well, she isn’t even a year old yet but maybe she can say something.” Cameron held out his hand and his niece grabbed his index finger, “Farrah, do you think you can say something?”
Farrah only smiled at both uncles. Jonathan thought for a moment, “Cam, can you get a photo of Shawn and Fiona from the table.” Cameron nodded as he took Shawn and Fiona’s wedding photo and brought it over, Jonathan took the photo and smiled, “They really look happy.”
“They do.”
Johnny brought the photo closer for his niece to see, “Hey Farrah... do you know who this is?”
Farrah let out a happy-sounding noise when her eyes caught the photo. She placed a hand on the photo, “Mama.”
Cam gave a sad sigh, “Yeah Farrah... that’s your mama.”
Her little hand moved from Fiona’s face to Shawn’s face, “Dada.”
Jonathan gave a deep sigh, “The fact that she knows they’re her parents makes this even harder. What if when she gets a little older, she calls out for Mama or Dada... what do we do then?”
Cameron gave a deep breath, “I don’t know...”
Just then, Dina walked back in with a bag of groceries and there was a concerned look on her face. Jonathan spoke up, “Dina? Are you okay?”
“Uh... I’m not sure.” She set the groceries down and looked to Cameron, “Cameron, didn’t you walk Kay out?”
Cameron furrowed his brows in confusion, “Uh, yeah. I walked her to car, we said good night,” Johnny gave him a look, “...Multiple times. Then I came back inside. W-why do you ask?”
“Well, as I was coming back, I noticed that... Kay’s car is still parked outside but... Kay’s nowhere near it.”
Cameron eyes widened as he ran past his friend and rushed back out the door. When he got outside, he saw that Dina was right, Kay’s car was still here but she was nowhere to be seen. Kay had just been here, where was she? “Kay?” He called out, “Kay?”He went over to the side of her car where they had said their good nights when his eye caught the side mirror. He took a closer look at it; it had been bent down slightly, almost like something had fallen on it. His eye then fell to the paper under the windshield wiper. He walked over and picked up the note. When read it, his breath became shaky, “K-Kay... N-no... No!”
The next morning, Kay woke up with a pounding headache. She suddenly became aware of her surroundings. She was in some sort of basement room with two tiny windows as the only source of light. She managed to stand up and tried to walk towards the light of the windows but after a few steps, she felt a tug on her arm holding her back.
She looked down and found that her left wrist had a tight cuff around it and a long chain connected to the wall, “What the-”
“A bit old fashioned but it does the job.” Kay turned to see the mystery woman standing by a door, “Plus I find these cuffs to be far more effective than the modern type ones that the law enforcement uses.”
Kay knew trying to pull off the cuff was futile, “Why the hell am I here?”
“Well, to answer your question, you’re here because you’ll be the insurance we need.”
“Insurance?”
The mystery woman shrugged, “Well, you see, you might not be aware that Cameron didn’t steal the Links Diamond because of you-”
“I’m aware.” Kay said as she stayed standing trying to glare at the woman but it was difficult to given the bad lighting.
The mystery woman raised her eyebrows, “Are you? Well, that doesn’t change much. It only changes the fact you are now fully aware that Cameron... well, he’s willing to do more for you than you might think.”
Kay shook her head, “Why? Why do this at all? Why did you ruin Cameron and Jonathan’s lives?”
“Jonathan and I met as children in Reykjavik. We were fast friends.” Kay stood silent as the woman explained the story, “When I saw the chance to enter back into his life, I took it.”
“Reykjavik?” Kay thought for a moment, “Cameron told me about how you mentioned Reykjavik when you kidnapped him.” The mystery woman stayed silent as Kay’s eyes widened with realization, “Cameron was the one you had planned on framing for murder. He was the one meant to go to jail. You had no idea that it was Jonathan you had... become friends with. You didn’t know it was Jonathan you were looking for.”
“Well, none of that matters now. Jonathan clearly doesn’t care for and after spending a few weeks with him... I’ve outgrown him. Turns out we aren’t the kindred spirits I thought we would be” The mystery woman said raising an eyebrow.
“So then you ruined his life and almost tore Cameron and Jonathan apart... for nothing?”
The mystery woman raised both her eyebrows this time, “Oh, don’t give me that look. If anything, you should be thanking me.”
“Thanking you?”
“Well, of course. I mean, think about it. If it wasn’t for me, you and Cameron might have never even met.”
Kay didn’t dignify that statement with a response, “Why did you kill Shawn and Fiona?”
“Oh, I never said I did. I’m just trying to help my employer gain access to that adorable little girl you’ve all seem to have fallen in love with.”
Kay felt her anger rise, “You stay from her! She is just a child! An infant!” Kay would do anything to protect that Farrah. She couldn’t help but love that sweet little girl.
“Aww, looks like that child brings out a maternal side of Kay... it actually makes me respect you a little bit more.”
“Who’s your employer?”
“Bennett Blanc of course. He wants access to his granddaughter.” Saying it like it was obvious.
Kay became extremely confused, “But he and his wife made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with her.”
She shrugged, “Well, in their defense, they had no idea that one of the agents was deeply connected to the case. When they found out, Bennett knew he would have to get rid of you all in order to get to his granddaughter.”
“Why? Tell me. Now!” Kay said, raising her voice with that last word.
The mystery woman’s face scrunched up, “You know, without your gun, you’re actually not that scary.” The mystery woman said as she opened the door, “Don’t worry. Bennett has no intention hurting the baby. He just wants her returned where she belongs.”
Kay suddenly felt rage build up inside her, “If you touch one hair on Farrah’s head, I will kill you myself.”
The mystery woman took one last look at the agent, “You know, it really is sweet how much you care in the short time you’ve seen her. I honestly wish that my mother had been more like you.” She motioned for a couple of people to come in, “I almost feel bad for what’s about to happen.”
Kay suddenly felt a twinge of fear rise to her throat, “What do you mean?”
The mystery woman smirked, “The boys need a new punching bag and until the one they ordered gets here... well, you’re the next best thing. Besides, sending Cameron a photo of you being a little banged up might help speed things along.”
“He’d never give up Farrah. Not for anyone or anything for that matter.”
“Oh, I think that’s where you’re going to be wrong. You see Kay; you’re Cameron Black’s Achilles’ heel.”
One of the men took a swing at Kay whom she managed to block but when a swing came from the opposite direction, she wasn’t able to block it when the chain from the cuff held her arm down. They continued to beat her down before one of them kicked her leg, causing her to fall over. She tried to fight back and had some success but the chained arm made it difficult to make any lasting impact. After about fifteen minutes, the mystery woman raised her hand, signalling the men to stop. The mystery woman walked over and took a close look at Kay’s face as Kay sat on the ground clutching her side which hurt the most out of everthing as she leaned against the wall trying to steady her breath. The woman with the multi-coloured eyes took a look at Kay’s face then nodded, “This’ll do for now.” The mystery woman was handed a camera and she started taking pictures. Before she took the last one, her and Kay’s eyes met and she gave the banged up agent a wicked smile, “Smile pretty for the camera Kay.”
There was one thing Kay thought before she painfully shut her eyes as she felt the flash from the camera from beneath her eyelids, “Cameron... keep Farrah safe.”
A few hours later, back at the FBI building, Cameron couldn’t stop pacing. Kay had been missing for over fifteen hours and not a trace of where she could be. He ran a hand down his face in frustration.
“Cameron, would you please stop pacing like that?” Agent Deakins asked. She understood why Cam was concerned for Kay, not only was she one of her best agents but the older woman would be lying if she said she didn’t the connection Cameron and Kay had with each other.
“I’m sorry Sir but no. I can’t calm down. It’s been over half a day and nothing. Kay couldn’t have just disappeared off the face of the earth.” He placed his hands on his hips and looked down to the ground, “She... she’s too strong for that.”
Jonathan walked over and gripped his brother’s shoulders, “Just calm down Cam. Tiring yourself out won’t get you anywhere. It won’t get Kay back.” He slapped Cameron on the back of the head, “So snap out of it!”
“Mr Black, need I remind you that you could easily be sent back to your cell simply for being here.” Deakins reminded him. She didn’t want to have to send this innocent man back to prison but the slightest slip-up could force her to.
Jonathan rolled his eyes, “Well aware. You’ve sent me back multiple times for a crime I didn’t commit. At least this time, there would be a somewhat valid reason.”
Just then Farrah let out a cry from her stroller. Cameron walked over to the stroller and picked up his niece who was wearing a purple short-sleeved dress with light pink socks and a light pink headband. “I’m sorry Farrah. I didn’t mean to ignore you.” He said as the baby leaned her head on his shoulder and her tiny little hands grasped onto his black sweater.
Cameron held his baby niece close to him as Mike placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder, “We’ll find her.”
“I just... I don’t want anything to happen to her, especially because of me.” Mike gave him a sympathetic look. Cameron shook his head, “I know Kay is more than able to defend herself but you honestly have no idea what that crazy lady is willing to do to get what she wants.”
Jonathan sighed, “Unfortunately... Cam does have a point.”
“She’ll be fine.” Mike tried to reassure Cameron... and himself. He and Kay had been working together for a couple of years now and he had come to regard her as a good friend. He wanted his friend to return home safely. He wished for this whole mess to be over so that they could all help Farrah adjust to her new home. As a father himself, he couldn’t imagine not being able to be there for his boys and how difficult it was to raise children but he could see from the moment Cameron had learned that Farrah was his niece that Cam had it in him to take care of her. “We’ll bring her home.”
Cameron sighed, “You know Farrah took her first steps last night?”
Mike couldn’t help but give a little smile, “She did?”
Jonathan gave a slight smile, “Yeah, she did.”
“She only managed about three steps before she sat back down but...” Cameron chuckled, “Nothing was more amazing than seeing that.” He paused for a moment, “Kay would’ve loved it.”
“We’re just waiting on the traffic cam videos near the archive to arrive. We’ll find her.”
“I love Kay.” Mike’s eyes widened as did Jonathan’s, not from shock but from simple surprise that Cameron had finally said it out loud, “The thought of her getting hurt just... kills me.”
Just then Deakins came back with an envelope in hand, “Cameron?”
“Yes Sir? Anything?”
The older woman shook her head, “No but this came... addressed to you.” She said setting it down on the table
“Oh, uh... could you take Farrah for moment please?”
“Oh, of course.” Cameron handed Farrah over to Deakins. The little girl took a hard look at the older agent then let out a smile, “Well, you certainly make a better first impression than your uncles.”
Cameron smiled as he saw the older woman he truly respected interact with his niece. However his smile faded fast when he saw what was inside the envelope, “No.”
“Cameron, what’s wrong?” Deakins asked, concerned.
“Please! Don’t come closer; I don’t want Farrah seeing these and it somehow sticking in her mind.”
Mike and Jonathan walked over to him, “Cameron?” Cameron handed him the pictures as Mike’s eyes went wide as he looked at the photos and Jonathan just looked angry.
These were photos of Kay looking recently beaten up but the one that stuck with Cameron the most was the last one. It was a close up on Kay’s face where her eyes looked like they were painfully shut. It could have just been the lighting of the photo but Cameron swears that there was large bruise forming around her left eye, and her lip was cut and had bled down her chin just a tad, “Oh my God... what are they doing to her?” Just then Cameron’s cell phone rang, it was an unknown number but he had a feeling as to who it was, “Hello?”
“Hello Cameron.” That familiar female voice said, “What do you think of the pictures? I do hope they were visible enough, I’m afraid that the lighting was not that great.”
Cameron’s eyes widened as he put the phone on speaker, “Where’s Kay? What did you do to her?”
“I’m afraid I’m not at liberty to say. Oh, but don’t worry... she’s still alive. For now. I will admit, even for someone without a full range of motion at the moment, she’s a good fighter.”
“Why did you take her?” There was silence, “Answer me!”
“Oh come down Cameron. Yelling won’t get you anywhere.”
Cameron took a deep breath as Mike and some other agents tried to trace the call, “Why did you kidnap her?”
“Answer the man!” Jonathan exclaimed, getting tired of the game she was trying to play.
“Oh, since you insist Jonathan. She’s your Achilles Heel, Cameron.” Cameron gulped as the mystery woman continued, “You and I both know just how much you’re willing to do for her. You were willing to betray your own brother for Kay.”
“You gave him an impossible choice.” Jonathan said.
“It didn’t seem like you felt way a month ago.” The woman taunted.
“You took away his hope!” He paused for a moment, “Sorry, was that cheesy?”
Jonathan shrugged, “Let’s just say it’s a good thing that I’m not lactose intolerant.”
“As for Kay.” The mystery woman continued, “Consider the photos as a warning.”
Mike gave the thumbs up of having traced the call. Cameron continued talking, “A warning for what?”
“For what could happen if you don’t follow my employer’s instructions.”
“What does he want?”
“Only to see his granddaughter of course.”
Cameron’s breath hitched. Jonathan went over to Deakins and took Farrah, protectively holding his baby niece in his arms. Cameron took a deep breath, “W-what are you talking about?”
“Well, I’m sure that by now... you have figured out where this phone call is coming from.” Mike gave a somber nod as Jonathan’s eyes shut for a moment in frustration, “Hand over the child if you want to find Kay...” She gives a darks chuckle, “Alive, that is.”
With that she hung up. Cam ran his hand through his hair, “She can’t do this!” He looked over to Mike, “You traced the call?”
The agent nodded, “Yes. It came from the Blanc estate.”
“I don’t get it; they said they wanted nothing to do with Farrah.”
Jonathan kept a protective hand on Farrah’s back as she lightly slapped Jonathan’s cheeks, “Maybe it was to throw you off.”
“Yeah, maybe...” Cameron walked over and gave Farrah a light kiss on the head prompting the child to turn her head and smile at him.
“So, what’s the plan?” Jonathan asked.
Cameron gave a stern expression that even Jonathan himself had only seen a few times, “Well, one thing’s for sure... we are going to get Kay back... but they are not going to get their hands on our niece!”
Okay, I’m gonna be honest. When I started this story, I had no idea that this is where it would end up! I mean I had the basic story outline (Who the killer is, Kay getting kidnapped, Cameron and Jonathan making up and working together again.) but... this got darker than I expected...
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! Please be sure to tell me your thoughts, I honestly love reading your comments!

On Why Disabled People Are 2nd Class Citizens in the United States
Not all disabled people are mistreated personally, but socially/institutionally, there’s a view that (at least where I’m from- the US midwest) disability isn’t as important as able-bodiedness and it’s codified in our official procedures (and often that rubs off on people- especially in the Ayn Rand loving crowd who voted for the Orange Tire Fire and seem to be everywhere around me and in our government).
I hope the dots here connect properly.
All of the following novel put together is why I believe our lives don’t matter in my country and signals to certain groups of people that harassment is fine.  I don’t mean to indicate that every disabled person is abused or harassed.  Many are not.  But I am going to discuss structural issues here, rather than individual.
When it comes to institutionalized problems, they tend to filter down into some sects of society.  I have a wonderful support circle and most of the people I’ve interacted with have been lovely people.  My lovies are amazing.  Some of my doctors have been, too, others have been dismissive.  But I’m on Medicaid (if you’re not in the US, state insurance for poor people), so that’s not surprising.  We only have a few doctors who will take us.  But this isn’t the direction I want to go here.
So, institutionally.  I want to hit on insurance issues first.  Companies are allowed to deny coverage for the decisions of a doctor.  They are able to decline to cover medications that they determine unnecessary even if those medications ensure a quality of life that means a person is functional instead of simply alive.  This is why our local Cystic Fibrosis clinic actually has people on staff to help patients work around the insurance companies so they are able to live productive lives instead of just barely being able to breathe.  This is legal.  Disabled people aren’t afforded accessibility if their insurance companies decide they shouldn’t  I see this allowance as tacit approval of the devaluation of disabled lives by our government.
The United States government did expand Medicaid to cover more low income people and that greatly assisted those with diabetes.  It is documented in the city in which I live that emergency room use for diabetics running out of their medication dropped after the expansion.  Unfortunately, this has been threatened time and time again by our Congress in budget negotiations, thus also disregarding the benefit this expansion has had for disabled people now actually able to access care.  They have also repeatedly threatened CHIP, a comprehensive children’s health insurance plan that covers a wide range of medical needs for children in poverty, a group with a disproportionate number of disabled individuals.  My son is in this group and waiting on edge for them to renew funding as the clock ticked down to midnight September 30th, 2017.  It took them 114 days to decide to fund it again and in that time, some states started to send letters to parents explaining they could no longer provide services were the funds to not be restored quickly.  Half of the disabled children in this country are covered by either Medicaid or CHIP.  9 million children total are served by this program.  For an overview of how state insurance impacts children with disabilities, this link is useful.  The perpetual threat against these programs, including the threat to the provisions in the Affordable Care Act that disallow insurance companies to deny coverage for a preexisting condition, once again makes it clear to me that the governing bodies of the United States do not value disabled lives.  In addition, it has recently come to light that in order to fund the detentions of children coming over the border from Central and South American countries seeking asylum in the US, the government is siphoning from the Ryan White CARE Act fund, money dedicated to helping those with HIV/AIDS afford the medications that keep them alive.  If this isn’t blatant discrimination against an already deeply stigmatized community of disabled individuals, I don’t know what is- the US government is spending the funds that keep these people alive on keeping children from their families.
This scares the living hell out of me for the sake of my child as well as my own sake, as I don’t know if I’m functional without the bipolar medications that are only available to me thanks to the Medicaid expansion and the funding of Federally Qualified Healthcare Centers, which serve a disproportionate number of disabled individuals thanks to their locations in poor communities with high Medicaid dependency.  That I am aware, the funding for these places has not yet been reauthorized and it expired the same time as CHIP funding did back in September.
To continue on the insurance discussion, the state in which I live, Michigan, has an addition on our car insurance bill that goes towards a state fund to cover the medical care of those grievously injured in car accidents.  It has no lifetime dollar limit on care.  This has been a godsend for people I know, people who have been in or had family members in catastrophic accidents that have left them severely disabled.  Because our state doesn’t value disabled lives, this fund is at risk in the name of making insurance cheaper, both from our legislature and from citizens who don’t know what this charge is for and won’t be educated on it- all they see is another hike in their insurance rates..  Not surprisingly, a good number of people support this.  Unfortunately, the removal of the lifetime limit will severely hinder people with catastrophic injuries to function in society.  This article discusses the benefit of this system as compared to other states.  I see this as the state endorsing a lower quality of life for disabled people and dismissing their value in participating in our communities.
To further the disregard I feel from the government, we have two laws to protect people with disability, both of which are being undermined by our current administration.  IDEA (Individuals with disabilities Education Act) is being undermined by the Secretary of Education, DeVos, who doesn’t understand the meaning of the law.  The Americans with Disabilities Act may be gutted to diminish the effectiveness of disabled people getting redress for barriers to access.
So where I’m coming from is the perpetual structural prejudice expressed by the US government, which does trickle down in to attitudes- it’s become clearer where our national attitude lies because prejudice that’s been tucked under the woodwork leaks out when the government validates it.
Not to mention the “just like us” “inspirational” material that circulates- disabled people are considered heroic for living like everyone else and making themselves seem “normal”- if they don’t, it’s those poor people who can’t overcome.  I’ve seen that happen, too, and it’s tiring- it has had a personal impact in that I have, for most of my adult life, felt like I had to justify my use of a handicapped parking placard because of the number of dirty looks and disgusted expressions I’ve dealt with when I’ve stepped out of my car.  I’m very good at hiding pain.  That doesn’t mean I’m not in it.  I think the only time I didn’t get as many of these was when I was walking with a cane and even then, they didn’t stop.  People don’t seem to understand that young people can be disabled, too.
I’ve had to argue to a university that the handicapped ramp should be shoveled even if no students using the building used a wheelchair, that the parking space needed extra clearing because the curb cut caused meltoff to gather and created an ice slick, that the fast food delivery people shouldn’t park in handicapped spaces, that “just running in to drop something off” isn’t a reason to keep disabled people from going to class/appointments/the store....  And our city government was evaluated in 2010 for accessibility and a number of these required changes still haven’t been met- and I’ve been told it’s because there’s not money or it’s not a priority in the problem areas.  It’s been a pervasive issue wherever I’ve traveled and a number of disabled people I know just don’t have the energy to fight the powers that be as well as sustain their lives or they don’t have the money to take up a legal fight (which is why the Trump administration’s proposal to dismantle the financial redress in the ADA is a huge slap in the face to disability rights).
Like the increased hostility towards people of colour and LGBT folks since the Orange Tire Fire opened his mouth in the presidential campaign, I’ve seen a greater dismissal of disability (though not nearly as much hostility).  His mocking of a disabled person was just not OK, but at the same time, those who voted for him thought it was presidential enough behaviour.
So yeah.  There’s my ramble.
Disabled lives matter, no matter what the clusterfuck of a government says.  Please, all of you out there who are disabled and feeling down, remember that you are valuable, you do belong on this great green earth, and there are others of us out there who feel just as down-hearted sometimes, but we’re pulling through and rooting for you, too.
With love,
Mistress Stabby.

Car Insurance Settlement?
Ok about 3 weeks ago I was rear ended while my car was stopped on the freeway. The guy hit me doing about 30mph. I have had back and neck problems ever since. I have been seeing a chiroprator on a weekly basis. Also it was a hit and run but I was able to get his license plate number. I live in California. Ok so his insurance company called me trying to settle for 1000 plus my medical expenses. The problem is I don't now what my conditions will be like in the future. Also how many times will his insurance call me and change the offer?
How long have i had car insurance?
Can someone please tell me where I stand on the following: I have held a provisional UK license since 4/4/06 after a few months of driving lessons I took out insurance on my vehicle with Virgin so that I could drive accompanied by my parents. This policy was taken out on 31/7/06. On 9/11/06 I past my driving test. On 31/07/07 I renewed my car insurance with virgin and with the 31/07/08 soon approaching I must again renew my car insurance. The problem is I will in fact have had two year no claims on 31/07/08 which Virgin recognises, however when I go on their and any other online car insurers websites it says that my no claims (2 years) cannot exceed my full license period (1 year 9 months) So the question is, will my car insurance be recognised by other insurers as been held for two years?""

Can health insurance companies request medical records from other health insurance companies?
When I was in college I was in a relationship that made me really depressed, and the psychologist on campus referred me to an outside therapist with a diagnosis of major depression --the outside therapist corrected it and said she believed i had circumstantially-related depression, but she told me she coded the claim with the referring guy's major depression label so the insurance company wouldn't hassle me about the paying the claim. I worked with her for a 6 months --no medication, just got out the relationship--and am happy and healthy :) Now I'm reading all kinds of scary stuff about MIB, retroactive declining of coverage, etc and I currently have new individual (underwritten) coverage--I can ask her to correct the claim with my old company, but it seems like any action might rock the boat and I'm scared--if they didn't notice it, should i leave it be? or is there a chance that if i (god forbid) get something serious down the road that my current insurer will dig up my records from my old insurer to look for a reason to not pay? she was trying to do something to make my life easier but this whole thing has turned into such a mess!""

What is a good car insurance company - value and a known company - not high risk?

We typically have the second car for 11-22 months. I mentioned to the insurance company that in the future I want to avoid this $5.00 fee since I always pay in full and I waving it this time wouldn't solve future issues b/c my husband is in the car business and we buy a third car to sell the second when he finds one he likes.
