some incorrect quotes based on this au (where cal ends up being dragged along for vader's slow, unsteady redemption post jedi fallen order when he finds out the truth about palpatine's lies and padme's true fate via cal's pyschometry)
~~~
Cal: If you kill me, my teeth only have a two percent drop rate.
Vader: ...What?
Cal: Good luck.
~~~
Cal: Did you have to stab them?
Vader: You weren’t there. You didn’t hear what they said to me.
Cal: What did they say?
Vader: "What are you going to do, stab me?"
Cal:
~~~
Cal, trying to lighten the mood: Hey, how do you ask a glass of water what it’s doing?
Vader: A glass of water is an inanimate object. Therefore, it's incapable of having a thought process or understanding basic human language.
Cal:
Cal: Water you doing?
~~~
Cal: Stop lying, stop manipulating, stop murdering, just be nicer!
Vader:
~~~
Vader: Enough! How dare you mock me in such a manner!?
Cal: Well. How would you like me to mock you? I take requests.
~~~
Vader: Pardon the intrusion, but-
Cal: On this moment or just my life in general?
~~~
Vader: I prevented a murder today.
Cal: Really? How’d you do that?
Vader: Self control.
~~~
Vader: I have come to the realization that bottling up negative emotions is harmful and that you shouldn't do it.
Cal: I know, that's why I bottle up all my emotions, both positive and negative, so it cancels out.
Vader:
Vader: Do you take constructive criticism?
Cal: I only take cash or credit.
~~~
Vader: You have an oddly sincere sense of humility.
Cal: I prefer the term self-loathing, actually.
not watching the last episode of obi-wan kenobi at this time because i don't want to be laid out on the floor for the rest of the day.
so it's 'end of initiate trip to the senate time'
“Come and meet Senator Palpatine,” calls Master Gallia. No thanks. Not unless someone gets real cool real fast about me attempting to turn him into a ’saber-kabob. I make a strategic retreat behind the tallest and most cape-wearing of the nearby adults. I slide around Sifo-Dyas and squeeze up next to Dooku like I’m a burr catching onto a loose thread. I duck against his leg and pull his cape back into place, completely submerged in the darkness except for my feet. There’s probably a metaphor in that. Dooku twitches his cape back. I grab for it. “What are you doing?” “Senators have bad juju.” Sifo-Dyas hides a laugh in a cough. “Juju?” asks Dooku. I can see Sidious heading this way. Great. He’s probably going to say hello to his good friend Count Dooku. I tug at his cape again. No luck. “Baaaad juju,” I repeat, ducking around behind him to the side further away from Sidious and not made useless as a hiding spot. I peek one eye out. “The Senate is a wretched hive of scum and villainy filled with delusional Inner Core dwellers who think they can go on ignoring the exploitation of Rim-outward planets by the very same companies they were bribed into letting sit in the Senate. They get fat off their profits while not paying the taxes needed to fund the socialist programmes the Core Faction wants to establish in the outlying regions who are correct in saying that the Core Faction doesn’t understand what life is like further out.” Sifo-Dyas looks Dooku up and down. “Taking up ventriloquism at this stage in your life?”
So there's a lot happening in this ask.
Do I think Palpatine could FEASIBLY be killed by something like choking on a grape or falling down the stairs? I mean, yes, sort-of. Like Palpatine IS still human, generally, and so if he's taken completely by surprise and doesn't have a way to keep himself from snapping his neck or whatever, he'd die. If we discount the Sequel Trilogy as canon, then Palpatine dies by getting tossed down a reactor shaft or whatever, so, clearly, he CAN die.
Star Wars has a tendency to run on rule of cool quite often, so Maul survives getting chopped in half because fans thought he was cool and Lucas then thought it would be cool to explore him again, rather than because it made any logical sense to bring him back. Palpatine survives getting thrown down the reactor shaft because he's the best villain this franchise has ever had and Rian Johnson ruined the two best options for villains in TLJ (Snoke by being unnecessarily killed off and Kylo by being made sympathetic to fans), so JJ Abrams was stuck coming up with something else in TROS. Shit happens in Star Wars sometimes and it doesn't really make SENSE, so it can be hard to try to puzzle out how the worldbuilding actually works in a situation like this one.
Maul keeps himself alive by spite and spite alone according to TCW. He's so full of anger and hate that somehow, despite being chopped in half and apparently magically transported to an entirely different planet somehow, he manages to stay alive long enough to attach his top half to a robot spider bottom. So, sure, if Maul can do that, then Palpatine should be capable of keeping himself alive by pure spite, too. You can try to argue that because he's killed in the way the prophecy says he would that maybe it should be more binding than Maul's, I guess, but THEORETICALLY, as per the worldbuilding rules that kept Maul alive, there's absolutely nothing keeping Palpatine dead, either.
I am also of the personal opinion that the prophecy means that IF the Chosen One tries to destroy the Sith out of selflessness and compassion, they are guaranteed to succeed (aka, if Anakin tries to kill Palpatine because this is what Sith apprentices do to their masters, the prophecy no longer applies and so he isn't guaranteed a victory). But this doesn't mean that this is the ONLY way to defeat the Sith. It's not like Palpatine could ONLY have been killed if Anakin personally kills him, it's just going to be a heck of a lot easier for Anakin than it would've been for anybody else. But Anakin defies his own destiny for over TWO DECADES and I think he could've defied it for the rest of his damn life if he'd chosen to. Which opens the door for the opposite to also end up being true: Palpatine can be killed by something that ISN'T the Chosen One fulfilling the prophecy. Maybe it takes a LOT of Jedi coming together to take him out, maybe it takes regular civilians helping the Jedi, maybe he CAN just randomly choke on a grape by pure luck. It's incredibly UNLIKELY to happen and even more unlikely to succeed, but not IMPOSSIBLE.
Moving on to the Separatist question about the contradiction between TCW claiming there are good people in the Separatist movement despite the horrible things their army is doing and the fact that without Palpatine and Dooku running things, they seem like they'd probably just fall apart immediately. I think the Separatists work the same way most of the antagonists do in Star Wars, especially in the prequel era: a parallel for Anakin. The Separatists seem to have good intentions for their actions, but are being manipulated by the Sith into (possibly unintentionally) backing some really heinous atrocities and a belief in their own superiority so strong that they'll never believe it's even happened, no matter how often it's explicitly laid out for them. The Separatist politicians (so NOT the people running the actual army like Nute Gunray or Wat Tambor or anyone else from the Corporate Alliance) are EXACTLY like Anakin, and they fall prey to their own arrogance the same way he does. So sure, there were "heroes" among them and people with good intentions, but Dooku was a good Jedi once, too. It doesn't mean that his choices NOW are actually motivated by those good intentions, though. The same is generally true of the Separatists. They had good intentions, but their ignorance becomes an intentional choice rather than something forced upon them and that ultimately makes them complicit in the crimes their army is committing.
I will say I don't think the Separatist politicians are explored well enough to really get that message across and so it just ends up feeling kind-of weird and contradictory sometimes, but that's my take on what the intended message of the Separatists is.
The same is generally true for Dooku. The thing with all of these characters is, they're ALL parallels for Anakin, which means that they have to also have one of the things most essential to his character: "There's still good in him." Regardless of how I feel about how his "redemption" was handled in ROTJ, the fact that Anakin has goodness left in him to act upon is VITAL to his character. So any character who is intended to be a parallel to his narrative ALSO has to have this characteristic. Dooku can still make better choices, he COULD feasibly turn things around and be a better person again. The Separatists CAN choose to be less ignorant and more open to listening to what people like Padme and Bail and the Jedi are actually saying rather than desperately trying to live in a perfect little fantasy world that appeals to them.
So even though they all SEEM irredeemable, they all SEEM rotten right through to the core, they're not. That's the major message of Star Wars, that choice MATTERS and you ALWAYS have a choice. Even if you've been making the wrong ones for decades, even if there's just a smidge of goodness left, it'll ALWAYS be there to act upon. Just like the capacity for darkness is always there to be tempted by, the capacity for compassion is ALSO always there to come back to.
Which brings us to the concept of, "What if the Jedi found out about the Tusken massacre sometime before ROTS and Order 66?"
The Jedi generally seem to believe in rehabilitation and forgiveness as much as possible, but they also believe in placing the needs of the greater good over the needs of one person, and in this situation, I'm assuming the Jedi are likely still dealing with the war happening which limits a lot of their options, especially if Palpatine is ALSO still in power. So they have to figure out how to help Anakin with the feelings that led him to commit the massacre in the first place while keeping him from being able to do it AGAIN. I generally imagine that this would mean removing him from positions of authority, which would include both being a General in the GAR and being a master to Ahsoka. I think he'd probably be asked to agree to being grounded at the Temple until such time as a Jedi mind healer deemed him capable of going back out in the field. I also think that, before he was allowed back into the field for any kind of Jedi work, he'd be asked to make some kind of amends for what he'd done, whatever that ended up meaning. It's not about punishing Anakin so much as it is about damage control.
The problem is that Palpatine is unlikely to allow Anakin to just be removed from the GAR and that Anakin is unlikely to take ANY of this well. Unlike most fics that deal with this scenario, I think he'd generally be willing to take the Council's condemnation of his actions relatively well. He admits to knowing it's not the way a Jedi should act in AOTC, so he'd be expecting the Council to tell him he was wrong to kill them all and I think he'd be able to put on a good show of contrition and remorse (regardless of whether it was that genuine or not; his remorse over having not acted like a Jedi would be real, but there'd be no real remorse for the deaths of the Tuskens and I don't know how well the Council would be able to distinguish between the two through psychic powers alone). But it's asking him to accept the demotion and the loss of Ahsoka that I think he'd lash out at. He'd accept the slap on the wrist, but the actual consequences would seem unfair and THAT'S when he'd start to defend himself and throw a tantrum about it (For an example of this in canon, look at how he acts during the scene where he's put on the Council in ROTS and how he stays pretty polite right up until he's told he isn't going to be made a Master and THAT'S what riles him up).
Anakin doesn't like making choices and I think the Council would likely let him know that this kind of infraction is one where, if he DOESN'T want to accept the consequences for what he's done and do the work it takes to re-earn their trust, they'd have to consider expelling him from the Order. So now he's faced with the choice of remaining a Jedi but diminished and humiliated (from his perspective), or not being a Jedi at all but leaving more on his terms. And I think that THIS is where he'd likely try to go to Palpatine to get him to pull strings in his favor and, given that the war is still happening, Palpatine might be able to accomplish this and force the Council's hand so that they CAN'T enforce these consequences no matter what. It's POSSIBLE Palpatine might try to convince Anakin to just leave so that he can then take Anakin even more under his wing, but I feel like Anakin wouldn't see that as helping very much, while Palpatine forcing the Jedi to let Anakin stay without consequences puts Anakin COMPLETELY in Palpatine's debt.
All of which would REALLY burn out a lot of the Jedi's faith in Anakin and start to turn even those closest to him against him, like Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. And the more they turn on him, the angrier Anakin gets, the darker and more violent he probably gets, and the more the Jedi lose faith in him. It's an ugly downward spiral for everybody that might lead the Jedi to ultimately feel like they have to try something beyond offering rehabilitation to Anakin. The reasoning would not be unlike what they utilize to step in with Palpatine where they realize that by NOT stepping beyond their boundaries, they're allowing the problem to persist which makes them complicit in the consequences. But now they have to remove both Anakin AND Palpatine from power without either of them finding out and while continuing to fight a war that's killing them off and spreading them thin. How this would turn out is anyone's guess, but I do think that eventually the Jedi could and would get to a place where they'd recognize that forgiveness only works if the person is willing to do something to EARN that forgiveness and sometimes the better thing to do is simply remove the person causing problems from the game entirely in order to protect everyone else. At this point, even though they firmly believe everyone still has the capacity to be good, it stops being a priority to ensure Anakin still has the opportunity to act on it when doing so puts others in danger.
Victory Comes Late
Summary: Victory came too late for Ponds and for so many other brothers. Three years of war plus some months of hashing out a peace treaty written in the blood, sweat, and tears of his brothers but makes no mention of them at all. It’s a Senate proclaimed accomplishment, like they hadn’t refused to even consider peace for three years.
The largest exhibition hall in the Jedi Temple is almost too small for the sheer number of clone troopers in it now. Really, it is actually too small, but none of them are too concerned with the concept of personal space when this is the first time they’ve all been together for three years.
And yet, Fox pulls his helmet off and tucks it beneath his arm. His guard brushes past him, calling out into the space that’s already echoing with brothers trying to find each other. And yet, they aren’t all here.
Rancor Battalion is still on Kamino and participating in negotiations alongside General Ti to hopefully place the cadets and tubies into the custody of their brothers. The thought alone is almost inconceivable: entire batches of clones who never have to serve on a battlefield, who can stay together and stay alive for years longer than their elder brothers could.
“You joining the party, Fox?” Stone asks, coming to stand beside him.
“You really think Salvo would let us miss it?” Fox walks into the exhibition hall instead of just hovering in the doorway. “Besides, someone has to tell them all how the chancellor really died.”
Ao3
Stone coughs into his hand. “Would that be the actual story or another one of your tales this time?”
Fox refuses to learn about any of the details of Chancellor Palpatine’s, unfortunate, accident. It would ruin the fun of coming up with stupider and stupider ways the late chancellor died and sharing them around the caf brewer. Call it his own personal revenge against the man who insisted on calling each and every one of his brothers by CC or CT number and number alone, the way the Guard all but tiptoed around him, how many of his brother assigned to the chancellor’s guard when traveling off planet simply disappeared without a trace, and every single shiny who the chancellor sent down into the lower levels who came back in a body bag, if at all.
“I have a list of stupid ways for asshole politicians to die, and this might be my only chance to share any of them,” Fox says primly. “Allow me my fun.”
Stone shakes his head. “If you say so.”
They weave through a particularly thick crowd of brothers, and someone flags them down. “Hey commanders, I think your squads are meeting over on the stands!”
“That’ll be Cody’s idea,” Fox mutters as Stone thanks the brother for the directions. “Always did need to be on top of things.”
“Not sure the stands top Tipoca City’s comm tower.”
Fox looks up at the ceiling that rises so high above their heads it can barely be seen and then gives Stone a look.
“Okay, so maybe they could.”
The commander squads are gathered in a clump in the middle of the stands, and sure enough, Cody’s yellow-orange paint is higher than anybody else, shining like a beacon. Fox and Stone pass Alpha Squad on their way up the stands where Wolffe and Thire look about two seconds from murdering a squadmate or two.
“I’m sorry,” Gregor says just as they pass by, “but do you think you could repeat that? Or maybe replay it? I’m not sure I heard you correct-ly! His voice rises sharply as he falls back under the weight of two brothers, and Fox hops up a handful of rows. Stone jumps back with a curse.
Poet looks up from their padd with a distinct ‘can you believe I’m stuck with them?’ expression of their face. Fox bites his lip and shakes his head, mentally wishing them good luck.
Force, Alpha’s only missing Blitz whose stuck on Kamino. They all made it, the lucky bastards.
“Fox! Stone!” Salvo slams into Fox with a broad grin and pulls Stone up the remaining steps to wrap his arm around him too. For a moment, the three of them just breathe. “It’s good to see you again,” Salvo whispers.
“Yeah,” Fox pulls away and meets Gree’s eyes over Salvo’s head. “Wait until you hear what happened to the chancellor.”
“The old one, right? Cause the one we have now is an upgrade.” Gree throws a thumb back over his shoulder. “C’mon, we grabbed a spot by Chimaera.”
Fox starts laying out the first ‘So this is what I heard from somebody who heard it from somebody’ as they walk lengthwise along the stands until Gree and Salvo pull them down onto the benches. Just above them sits Chimaera Squad with it’s three near-silent members. As he tells his story, Fox watches Neyo try to get Keller and Faie to say more than a few words strung together, and it suddenly hits him that both Lock and Colt were dead.
The story ends, and his brothers make noises of disbelief. “Oh really?” Fox says. “Well, how about this one that I heard from a janitor who heard it from his sister’s husband’s brother’s friend.” Stone buries his head in his hands with a groan.
Ponds would have told Fox to stop by the second story, but he’s not around to hear them. The lack of protest from that quarter sits heavy in Fox’s chest. He barrels through the story anyway, almost even more spitefully.
Victory came too late for Ponds and for so many other brothers. Three years of war plus some months of hashing out a peace treaty written in the blood, sweat, and tears of his brothers but makes no mention of them at all. It’s a Senate proclaimed accomplishment, like they hadn’t refused to even consider peace for three years.
Almost four years of war because of one man who strung them all along like dew drops on a tent-line.
Fox’s eyes land on a small empty space in a sea of brothers, and his next words die in his throat. There’s a brother standing in the middle of the empty space. He’s thin with shaved hair and implant scars. What’s left of one arm is in a sling across his body, and Fox knows who he is even without the blue of the 501st edging his almost shiny-white, probably borrowed armor.
Come get your Dominoes, Rex had messaged three years ago.
Unless they’re commanders, I don’t claim them, and even that’s debatable, he had messaged back.
Within days, Rex had informed him that due to the sudden death of their commanding officers and the subsequent lack of collection by Fox (Fox had rolled his eyes at this), he was personally taking them under his wing. Rex then spent every other message to Fox bragging about ‘his Dominoes’ like there wasn’t hundreds of Domino training squads spread throughout the army.
For a moment, Fox selfishly wishes that Echo truly had died on the infamous Citadel mission. Seeing him standing alone in a sea of reuniting brothers when Fox is the one who killed his last squadmate…
Victory really did come too late for Rex's Domino squad.
The reunions and conversations continue on around Fox, blurring into the background. A sea of noise and color turning into a drone as a time seems to slow, but Echo never blurs. He continues to stand alone, seemingly in the middle of a swirling galaxy of brothers without a single person to welcome him home.
Fox finds his feet moving without any input from him. He's halfway down the stairs before Salvo asks him where he's going. “To get another Domino,” he says, almost under his breath, but his squad hears him just the same.
The floor of the exhibition hall seems to echo with his footsteps. Which is impossible. First of all, the sheer number of clones in the room alone would drown out any noise Fox could possibly make even if they weren't talking at loud volumes. Second of all, there was no way in hell that the Jedi didn't sound proof this room within an inch of its life given the number of lightsaber duels- duels between children at that!- this room must have been used for.
Maybe his footsteps are echoing through him, Fox muses. He takes another step and feels it in his chest.
Time and sound suddenly crash into Fox. Conversations burst into a roar, suddenly Fox can hear so many squadname jokes all at once. It no longer feels like he's stepping through taffy, and all he can do is stand there. Like an idiot. Just in front of Echo.
Force, all he has to do is lift his arm and he could touch this orphaned shell of a brother.
Well, maybe not a shell, he reconsiders as Echo straightens, jutting his chin out a bit and brown eyes flashing with a challenge. There's still quite a bit of fight left in his one, which is more than Fox can say for the Chimaera commanders back on the stairs.
“Echo,” Fox says, figuring that's as good a start as any.
“What do you want, commander?”
Fox falters. Opening and closing his mouth, he glances back at his squad who have ceased any and all conversations to stare at him trying and failing to talk to a CT.
“If you're here to apologize, don't. There's nothing you can say,” Echo continues, and Fox winces. If it was his squadmate shot and killed by another's hand, he doesn't think he would have said those words so mournfully acceptingly. No. Every trooper in this hall would likely have to hold him back from trying to beat the shit out of the one who killed his squadmate.
He flexes his hands, tries not to imagine how Aurra Singh's neck would feel wrapped in them as he squeezes the life out of her for what she did to Ponds.
“It's not something that can be forgiven, no matter how much I regret it,” Fox says. “But that isn't why I'm here, trooper... Echo.”
“Then why, sir?”
For a moment, Fox hesitates, unsure of whether his invitation, his touch would be welcome, but he decides to do it anyway. He reaches out and gently grabs Echo's remaining wrist and lightly tugs it in the direction of the stadium. “Come on. No Domino gets left behind.”
He waits for Echo to take the first step, watching his brother's eyes blink, widen, and then sharpen. Echo looks past Fox towards the Domino commanders, and whatever he sees there, convinces him.
Fox settles Echo down in the empty spot where Ponds should be, and the way Echo looks around with brighter eyes and a harsh swallow tells him everything about how Rex's little dominoes must have gathered too.
Setting that aside, Fox turns back to his brothers. “Now, where were we? Oh yes, so the Chancellor had ordered breakfast and for some reason, this involved fish. And you know how fish have these tiny little bones they don't always manage to get out when preparing them?”
Gree sighs loudly as he realizes where Fox is going with this latest story about Palpatine's death, and Salvo begins slapping Fox's knee like that's going to stop him. Behind him, Echo muffles a snort, and Fox grins.
Victory came late, but not too late. There are still brothers here who were saved after all.
i said I wasn't gonna complain about the star wars video game
And yet, HERE WE GO.
Spoilers for the video game Star Wars: Jedi Survivor and it's prequel, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order under the cut. I'm only like...7 or 8 hours in Survivor, though, so don't spoil me, either.
how do the people who make star wars keep making these stupid ass plots?
I realize part of star wars is to embrace the silly, but this is just as bad if not worse than the Rey Palpatine and "somehow Palpatine returned" shit from the sequel trilogy.
how do I write for star wars? I mean, seriously. THIS was the best villain they came up with? A guy from the Old Republic (who was kept alive in a BACTA TANK somehow even though being FROZEN IN CARBONITE IS A LEGIT THING IN STAR WARS!!!!!!!) (who, again, has no connection at all to the current crisis nor any of the characters) wakes up, immediately falls to the dark side, and oh, it turns out the bad guys of this place work for him? somehow???
holy shit that is bad. as in, poorly written. that is the best villain they came up with? SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE who worked at this game studio saw that idea and went "yeah that's a good one!" and gave it a stamp of approval????
If I were Cal I would have quit right there. I would have leaped off the cliff to my death. I would have found a small child, given them my lightsaber and said "You'll probably be better at this than me, good luck." I would have shut myself off from the Force. I'd abandon my quest and then just left to find Merrin and say "hey can I be your househusband? Being a jedi is just not for me, I think."
ESPECIALLY considering how GOOD the Second Sister was written in the first game!!!! what a flipping downgrade.
in good news though, guess who I just ran into again
Tumblr media
i cannot wait for her and Cal to get married and have a trio of red haired witch daughters.
some people say that qui-gon should've been the one to train anakin, but honestly? i believe it wouldn't rlly matter who takes him under his wing, if palpapi is present in the picture, he's most likely doomed. should've been mace though, but people aren't ready to accept that
i rly like mace tbh but i don’t rly have any qualms with the lucas saga canon events. nothing comes to mind that id like to change even though it’s flawed, i just kinda work in between the gaps cos it’s my sweet spot to make up events that very well could fit into the canon movies. i think obi wan was a perfect mentor for anakin for a number of reasons that make the narrative— as we saw it— possible. and yea, palps would’ve found a way to carry out his plan with anakin. palpatine was exceptional at rolling with the punches and using them to his advantage, and he was rolling with a lot of punches. i’m sure padme and anakin’s attraction was a stroke of good luck for sheev, and he used his authority to orchestrate forced proximity and exacerbate those feelings so he had another chess piece on the board. au’s are fun and all, but idrc about finding someone who “should’ve” trained anakin. bcos what’s the end goal? is mace or qui gon supposed to elicit a different outcome than anakin’s fall? i doubt it with sheev on the job. besides, i like anakin’s descent. i like his corruption. i like his isolation, his punishment, his torture. and all that was made possible as we saw it, so i’m not complaining
A drabble about the first time they tried a beloved food!
Omega, Circa 2184 CE
The garish orange light the pervaded every part of the space station. Even the markets. It reminded her of some of the lower levels of Coruscant. The sort of levels where you where you were pretty sure the Turbo Dogs were made of skrat, and you were lucky to leave the area with nothing more than a shot or stab in the gut.
She almost felt homesick for it. Almost. the Milky Way was all still very, very, very alien to her. And she didn’t realize how good some things were until it’s gone.
But at the same time, giving up those things just to not having Palpatine breathing down her neck at any moment was a plus. And besides, the Milky Way wasn’t all that bad. At least their liquor was passable in some dive bar or another. She’d been a few whiskeys in to the point where things felt a little okay, when she and her partner decided it was time for grub.
“Here,” the words barely out of his mouth before the skewer was in her face.
It was freshly cooked at least, slight steam rising off of it. The droid on her shoulder chirped softly in curiosity. Needless to say he was having a good time, taking in well, everything.
“What is it?” Kar asked, taking the meat skewer from his hand.
“It's food.”
“Oh, yes, vor entye for the clarification mister Earth-Man.” She quipped. “I wouldn’t have known.”
Zaeed had grown used to her sarcastic retorts. Some things seemed to just be universal, no matter what galaxy you from. But under the disarming smile and sarcasm was a trained killer through and through. Her verbal jabs were definitely more preferable to the ones with her laser swords.
“It’s Omega, fuck if I know.” he grumbled, tilting his head towards the krogan running the stand. “Could be varren, could be one of the alley vorcha that had a sorry end. You never know with krogan.”
With krogan, anything was fair game. It was not beyond the scope of his imagination to find the scaly bastards grilling up humans if they could manage it. Omega had a lot of folks of all races stuck in the gutter, dying overlooked and alone. One being's misfortune is another's luck, he reckoned.
BD-Y chimed in, giving a few beeps. Zaeed couldn’t understand what the hell the little mech was saying, but that wasn’t anything new. His translator didn't seem to pick up Droid Binary well. Kar’s expression changed considerably before his eyes, and that was enough for him to get it probably wasn’t anything good.
“Nah, nah, Bee, thanks, but we’re good!” She said, a little rapidly, a bit of her natural accent slipping through. “I’d like to live in blissful ignorance, just this once..."
Rewatching the Sequels; some notes
The sequels do a good job of showing how brutal the First Order is in a way the original trilogy never showed. These are supposed to be space not-sees and the sequels were the first to display their cruelty
Watch the Stormtrooper Paradox on YouTube, it explains my shared gripe of the idea that First Order stormtroopers are child soldiers being brushed off.
Kylo Ren is cool idgaf what anyone says. Phasma is cool. Hux is cool. Pryce is cool. The Praetorian Guard are cool. If you disregard everything else about Snoke he's cool. Btw they wasted Smoke, it would have taken one writers' meeting to come up with something better.
I didn't like how the Mandalorian just took Baby Yoda out of the plot line I thought wrapped everything up nicely but now I realise if Baby Yoda stayed with Luke then the implication is Ren killed him so nvm :)
Dave Filoni's work is really helping bridge the gap between the original and sequel trilogies
The battle of Crait although just a rehash of Empire Strikes Back is too cool to discount
The fact that Poe, Finn, and Rose's plan was the reason nearly half of the transports heading to Crait were destroyed was really interesting. If they hadn't separated they wouldn't have met DJ, and DJ wouldn't have told the First Order the plan. I wish they'd have given some guilt to the characters tho.
Holdo's sacrifice is super cool but I'm not sure about the scientifics of it all.
Being in the way of that battering ram should have given Finn some nasty burns at the very least, it was melting through metal.
Are Force projections mental or visual?? Because Ben and Rey could see each other but I don't think Luke saw Ben in the hut, which means it would have to be mental. Also C3PO saw the projection..? Palpatine had to be connecting Rey and Ben, not Snoke. If someone as powerful as Luke died by projecting himself, then there's no way Snoke would have had the power to connect two entirely different people.
Kylo Ren should have seen that the projection was fake because Luke has his lightsaber, which he snapped in half just thirty minutes ago. It could be miswritten, but I see it as Ren being so enraged that he didn't notice.
I wish they wouldn't have killed Luke, but I thought they did it right. I cried rewatching it, and I've seen the movie three times before this.
"Snoke trained you well." "I killed Snoke. I'll kill you." "You killed Snoke? Damn that's a shame, well good thing I got a jar of them right here!"
I don't mind force healing and blaster freezing, I just wish they'd tuck it into the story more neatly.
They did Rose dirty in ROS
I know Jakku already existed in legends, but Pasaana could have easily been Jakku or Tattooine.
Was the C3PO disrespect supposed to be funny? It wasn't.
Zorii should have died, her surviving literally served no purpose to the story, in fact he death would have served it better.
Domhnall Gleeson's acting is some of the best I've seen in Star Wars.
Rey Palpatine is stupid. It would have been nicer if Rey was just a nobody who became special because of her actions and determination, not bloodline.
Kylo Ren being stabbed by Rey and surviving actually makes sense because I can imagine the wound would be cauterised long enough for Rey to heal it
I think it would have been a satisfactory end if Rey and Ben Solo died
Some people are Finn x Rey, some people are Finn x Rose, we all know the truth is Finn x Poe
It's a shame Daisy Ridley's career hasn't had much luck, she's a good actor.
Rey should have said "Just Rey" in response to the old woman. She's taking agency of her own identity and not letting it be based off what other people tell her. She's not a Solo, she's not a Skywalker, she's not a Palpatine, she's her own person now.
The sequels just seem like they would have been better written by someone on AO3. They're not abysmally terrible, it's just hard to look past their shortcomings. The music, acting, and animation are the best parts.
ok
i had to wait ALL DAY TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THE EPISODES, but i FINALLY DID
BAD BATCH EP 7-8 SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
starting with episode seven:
First off, RIYO!!! SHE ABSOLUTELY SLAYED, the way she literally went to 79’s (also AAAA 79S!!!) specifically so she could actually talk to the clones is so so important, she is incredible
Slip was so wonderful, the parallels of him at 79s and then running through Coruscant while scared for his life were very painful tho (also his number was ct-0409 and that’s literally irrelevant but like COME ON ITS ONE NUMBER OFF I COULDN’T NOT NOTICE THAT)
Bail Organa!!! He’s here and he’s so so good!!
REXXXXX!!!!!!!!!! Omg when I heard his voice on the comm I FREAKED out and then he had his silly little disguise again and that was so so sweet
The sniper clone that Rampart sent after them was so sad to see, it reminds me of how Cody’s chip clearly wore off, but he still believes he did certain things of his own volition (i.e. “We make our own choices. And we have to live with them too.”). It seems like a lot of clones don’t know what exactly they’re fighting for anymore, and the empire is just not helping at all ofc
Ok and uh… now episode eight… these are just gonna be mostly episode thoughts cause the whole Echo thing,,, that deserves its own post
Starting off, still not over that beginning. Echo IMMEDIATELY getting not just multiple lines, but lines about his TRAUMA, and he’s actually OPENING UP ABOUT IT TO OMEGA???!???!??? “I… don’t enjoy solitude.” LIKE???? OMG??? The pain, the absolute agony, that line has me in a death grip and you bet ur ass that’s ending up in a fic sometime bhskshsjsjksks
His conversation there with Omega makes me think he’d already decided here. When Omega asks if the batch rescuing him is what made him join them, he says, “This is where I fit, where I was needed.” He seems like he already knows that’s changed now
okoKOK, OMEGAS. PONCHO. OMEGAS PONCHO OMGGGSJBSJSBSJSKSLLS SHE WAS SO SO ADORABLE!!! I’ve loved seeing her in situations without the batch, it’s nice to be reminded of how determined she always is even without her brothers right next to her :) (also, really liked how this episode didn’t take her out of the action, but removed her from the fighting so the rest of them could kinda breathe without the story focusing solely on her here)
We had a lot of very long Echo shots + lines during the mission, and that immediately scared me. Rex and his conversation here has me wondering though. Because it seems like either he already talked to Rex about it, since Rex seems to be almost bringing Echo up to speed on what exactly he’s doing, or that Echo is at least really solidifying his decision here, because after Rex’s line of “Help’s hard to come by these days,” Echo looks down and just thinks for a good long time, even after Wrecker calls down to them.
oh my GOD i might make a separate post just about this and other Echo stuff but UM???? When he just took control of the venator, diverted the power, MANNED THE CANONS AND MANAGED TO SHOOT DOWN THE SHIPS HEADED FOR THEM, and then activated the engines to make it harder for the stormtroopers??? Dude???? He can just do all of that?? By himself??? No wonder he wants to fight the Empire, HE COULD LITERALLY BE SO POWERFUL
oh. my. gOD PALPATINE I HATE HIM OH I HATE HIM SO MUCH. THE ABSOLUTE FEAR I FELT WHEN HE SHOWED UP, AND THEN HE JUST SHIFTED THE BLAME ENTIRELY TO GET EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED AND BROUGHT THE CLONES INTO IT AT THE SAME TIME??? i very much so hate him.
And ofc, I felt so bad for Omega afterwards when she said “I don’t understand. We did the right thing.” :((((((
ok.
here we go
tagging @phis-writing since u wanted my thoughts lol
first off, Hunters line here. “Wherever you end up, remember what I said.” …wHAT??? WHAT DID YOU SAY I NEED TO KNOW SIR WHAT
omega slowly realizing omg ow
“Best of luck, Echo” ow ow ow omg ow help this is where i started crying
Echo looks so sad trying to tell Omega why he’s leaving, and I get why he didn’t tell her before no matter how long his mind had been made up for, but omg, that hurt so bad. “I’m going where i’m needed.” yup yup there it is, that parallels his lines from the start ow
and tHEN. she hUGS HIM. i can’t hANDLE THIS OMG that was so important
damn it im watching it again while writing this and the music has me sobbing again i cANT, him watching the marauder fly off and then OMEGA HUGGING LULA i actually can’t
I knew Echo was going to leave. Logically, I knew it was going to happen and that it was his best option, he wants to fight the Empire and save his brothers, and that’s just not something the rest of the batch wants to take the risk for. I knew he was leaving, and even though I definitely tried to see every possible way he wouldn’t, I don’t mind it.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate that it might mean he’s getting way less screen time, and I kinda hate that he’s not gonna be there to spur the batch into action anymore, but for his sake I am so so glad he went with Rex. His entire life he’s grown up surrounded by brothers, and the batch has proven time and time again how differently they feel about that. Now, Echos just been sitting back for way too long, and I honestly love the way they had him leave.
There was no fighting, there was no long argument where he said the batch was wrong for not fighting the Empire. He knew they wanted different things, and everyone fully supported him in his decision to step away. He left because that’s where he was needed, to fight for his other family. (Not to mention he would be an INCREDIBLE benefit to Rex like did u SEE WHAT HE DID ON THAT VENATOR??? HE TOOK THAT THING DOWN SINGLE HANDEDLY)
I think it makes complete sense that his loyalty and his drive would lead him to join the rebellion, and I’m so incredibly hopeful it means we’ll get a Rex and Echo episode, probably with Riyo too, I’m SO excited
I’m also really hoping Omega will keep thinking of him and what she saw in the senate. Right now it seems like she’s getting more and more interested in standing up to the empire, and I’m interested to see if she’ll eventually bring it up with the batch? I’m not sure she’d convince them to join the rebellion, but I really hope her drive for justice/revenge doesn’t stop here, she’s angry and she deserves to fight for whatever she believes. Echo taught her too much for her not to.
The hood thing is, he’s coming back :)
(right filoni right please please omg tell me he’s coming back pLEASE)
I sincerely wish Daisy good luck considering the kind of fandom she’s dealing with. But I honestly don’t care about a Star Wars movie set after episode 9 unless lucasfilm brings back John and Kelly too so they can right some serious wrongs. I honestly see no point in making another one unless it’s to give Finn and Rose the justice they deserve. I want to see Poe get written better too. Kylo can just stay deader than dead, it wouldn’t even make sense for him to be a ghost.
"Kylo can just stay deader than dead." My constant mood right there with how Ben Solo stans instantly demanded he come back as soon as Rey's film was announced. And trust me when I say this: Ben Solo stans don't care at all that Ben ain't in the force, they like to believe he is so he can continue to harass Rey even in death.
But also yeah, I don't really care for another film unless the writings you know, good, and the characters all get good writing, not being sidelined like Poe, Finn and Rose got in the end in favor of Rey and Ben (mostly Ben as Rey's writing also got fucked in favor of his writing), and they don't pull another, "Somehow, Palpatine has returned." (As funny as that meme is). Though I do agree with you on Daisy Ridley there...did no one see how Reylos treated Adam Driver's wife and child??? And I think they went after Daisy's boyfriend too! Let alone obviously sadly sexists still being in this fandom and youtube channels relying on screaming about seeing anyone who isn't a white cis straight male, so lord help Daisy Ridley here.
To the anon who just sent me their idea for a Palpatine x Obi-Wan smut fic:
Please understand that I am a mere little trans masc doing his best to keep his sanity together by making cringe Star Wars shitposts.
I am, quite simply put, a very tired and sorely underpaid little man and there's only so much I can let myself take in before I subccumb to the void of complete and utter resigned existence of total detachment.
I am thrilled at your enthusiasm for doing the good lord's work in attempting to make sure that all fandom pee-paws can still get it. But--and I say this with love--I really didn't need to know all that.
Wishing you all the love and best luck in your travels, Radio.
1: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stuart in the 'good' timeline vs 'evil' timeline from Doctor Who,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See also - Good scars, evil scars, the trope page even says 'they may have a Red Right Hand in the form of a missing eye or ear, missing teeth, or a large chunk out of the nose or chin. Anything they're missing might have an Artificial Limb as a substitute, and in fact they might be so horribly scarred that they generally wear a mask over everything.'
Also, on the subject of Star Trek's mirror universe, sticking to TOS you have no scarred good guys in Mirror Mirror, and a scarred Sulu, though it doesn't seem to be disabling. When Enterprise entered the mirror universe, mirror Trip has a facial scar that seems to affect his sight in one eye. Again, none of the good characters have any disability or facial difference that a mirror universe character doesn't. Discovery then retroactively made all the mirror universe (human) characters photosensitive.
2: The trope of big evil lizard people is often antisemitic. I do agree that a lot of sci-fi does have the bad guys be corpse-white, but how many of them are labelled as terrorists? The Borg aren't, and I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, but I don't remember Vader or Palpatine being labelled as such.
3: That's one way in which you could get fat, just like one way you can be skinny is by not eating enough. A lot of fat people are fat because that's how their genetics work out, due to luck of the draw, a genetic condition, or due to ancestors who experienced starvation. You can starve to death whilst being fat.
4: An argument that falls apart when the heroes experience the same dangerous life and none of them have scars, but alright, Trip Tucker is fine then (his scars in the mirror universe are due to reduced safety laws for engineering), but what about Sulu or Brigadier Lethbridge-Stuart? Sulu seems to not be in a position with similar regulations, and Lethbridge-Stuart is well-off in a Britain under a fascist dictatorship, so he might have even faced less action than the good Brigadier.
5: Creepy Crossdresser and Sissy Villain are the tropes you're looking for.
6/7: So you think that it's fine to have a status quo in which real people can rarely see themselves in the 'good' characters? You don't think there are any undertones about always having characters in evil universes be of equal ability or more disabled than their good counterparts? You don't think that when we realise that tropes harm people, we should stop using them all the time? TVtropes would disagree.
I just think everyone should take a moment to consider the question "what is your visual shorthand for cruelty?" and then follow it up with a critical "and who taught you that?"
specific examples include but are not limited to
why is an evil timeline character design disabled? (why do the heroes go through equally punishing battles and never lose an arm, a leg, an eye?)
why are the futuristic scifi terrorists uniformly darker skinned? (why are the heroes so much lighter?)
why is the greedy boss fat? (why are the heroes skinny?)
why is the criminal mastermind heavily scarred? (why is the brooding, traumatized hero unscathed?)
why is the predatory creep a bearded person in a dress and makeup? (why are none of the heroes trans women?)
who taught you that this is how things are?
how long do you plan on repeating it?
Darth Maul talks Star Wars with Mace Windu at San Diego Comicon
youtube
They say this is not like him and we say it is and he'd play both and people want to see him as the emperor and he said he wouldn't do it and he doesn't like the costume either
Hera
I can't believe this stuff is going to be in the empire and he's in the empire and we have the pseudo empire and I'm going to be the emperor and he's going to be running the biggest fleet it's starting to turn out really stupid it says it's my kind of luck and I'm a pain in the ass that's true and they'll call me that he says what would you prefer as Darth maul I prefer you not to call me that and he says yes sir I can't believe it but other people hear different stuff and yeah he's a master Jedi
Senator palpatine
It's getting kind of real but really we probably need to see you there don't we oh yeah
Queen amidala
Olympus
I think this will work now we have several characters they wanted to play one of them is being because he's like the clones they say it could be what it is
Zig Zag and this is also a character of Tommy f
We have to be careful here not the alienate him but really he needs money and a car and all sorts of stuff to go to Comic-Con his costume would suck ass or he wouldn't even have one and just wears t-shirt and people say it's a good start and all those other dumb crap and I don't think that you people are realistic you're torturing him and he's going to beat us up and you're asking for it and what he can do is from miracles really it should be done this way with us helping him get what he needs and what we need more it's stupid I give examples later
Mac
Good job honey I think you're right though this would be good and yeah you shouldn't go there too many girls but I'll be there watching you and you're going to find me and start small this is going to be weird it's exciting can we chasing me screaming you better not be my daughter you a****** yeah that sounds like fun you're not going to get arrested buddy
Hera
Haha
Girl from Chicago PD and no not Black widow
This is great my name is being mentioned again and I'll be in cosplay he's probably going to be done small and he looked at it and didn't want to and said I'm not really them and we don't have much of that now it's different and people don't know it we want to see reactions and see if people know
was that halle bailey? oh no no, that was just ahsoka tano, a canon character from star wars. they are twenty two years old, use she/her, and are aware that they are not actually from washington dc. too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
how long has your character been here:
about five and a half years, she's about twenty seven at this point
what is your character’s job:
she's the director of the secret service, and often is on the president's personal detail, simply because she doesn't entirely trust a non force sensitive agent to be able to handle leia
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom:
she's completely up to date, up to the end of the rise of skywalker and palpatine's defeat
has any magic affected your character:
ahsoka's been unaware a few times, and has a much more human appearance than she did back home
and any other information you might find useful for us and the other members to know:
this was the first character i was truly genuinely obsessed with. i have loved ahsoka tano with all my heart and soul since i was nine years old and i will love her until i die
she was anakin skywalker's padawan during the clone wars, and while he didn't initially want her, they became incredibly close and that's her dad now, padme is mom sorry
she fought by anakin's side almost constantly, and was even given a squadron of her own to command. she grew up in the war, but anakin tended to try and turn things into games where he could, doing all he could possibly do to give her at least somewhat of a childhood amidst the horrors of war
during the war, she was stranded on mortis with anakin and obi wan, and died in the aftermath of the conflict. anakin resurrected her with the power of the daughter, the embodiment of the light side of the force, and she still holds that power within her to this day
she left the order before order 66 because she was framed for treason and expelled, and when she was offered her place back, she decided she couldn't do it and i love her for making the choice that was right for her even if it broke her heart to leave
she did help the order out for the siege of mandalore, taking down maul and nearly dying in order 66 before saying fuck it and joining the rebellion and becoming a whole spymaster!! all the fulcrum agents are under her command and she set up the mission that led to the rebels getting the death star plans!!!! i love her!!!!!
during the war, she also ended up finding a force sensitive child and taking her in, and that's her child now. ahsoka forcefully adopts family members i guess. she'd die for kirei no questions asked
she fought against vader and the emperor during the war, and won against both, though only due to a bit of luck. she did technically die against vader, but a time travel complication allowed her to escape at the last possible second, returning to the current timeline and managing to continue in yet another war
she's got very complicated feelings on anakin because she loves him!!! she loves him so much but she also knows he did terrible things! so it's a weird dichotomy of being so happy he's alive and being terrified he'll snap again
she's also got complex feelings on the jedi because she does know they did good, and were good people, but she also knows they fucked her up, and fucked anakin up, and that their policies weren't perfect by any means
in dc, she's met leia, anakin and padme's child, and has become incredibly close with her and her sister, winter, both women becoming like her little sisters. they have a set of matching tattoos, ahsoka's reads i of iiii, and winter and leia have ii and iii, with iiii saved for luke
ahsoka has also been training leia in the force, hoping that she can prevent leia from turning out like her father, because she sees so many similarities to anakin in her sister, and it both frightens her and makes her happy
after leia fell, she did everything she could to bring her back, even cutting herself off and lying about her memories to attempt to get leia off guard. once a spy, always a spy
she's also reunited with anakin here, and while she's thrilled, their relationship is a little bit strained at the moment, because during the corn maze event, ahsoka ended up under leia's control, and an unfortunate choice of words led to ahsoka murdering anakin against her will
at this point, she's like desperately trying to hold her family together, and feels like the only one who isn't ready to snap sometimes, despite being absolutely right on the edge just not in a dark side way
anyways she needs a drink twenty four seven, and keeps booze in her office to jensens forever annoyance but does she care about that any man's opinion? nope
The Angst Meme
Accepting | Open
@agentjjkelly left a message:
👿: What are your muse(s)’ fatal flaws? Any wishlists to do with them?
😁: So, the muse(s)… do they deserve the angst?
Tumblr media
👿:
One of Natasha's fatal flaws is her believing she's expendable.
In the MCU/Marvel this belief comes from the Red Room and the fact all Red Room operatives were treated as weapons, and weapons could be replaced, they could be remade, and they could be fixed if damaged. She learned from an early age that her life was not her own, it belonged to the Red Room, to Mother Russia. In some ways, she did unlearn this, at least to the extreme, but she still believed she owed SHIELD, Nick Fury, Clint Barton, and the other Avengers, to name a few, that she would easily, and gladly lay her life down for and ultimately did end up doing, for the entire universe.
Natasha's fear of losing the people she cares about is also a fatal flaw, which works in tandem with her belief of being expendable. She lost so much in her life already that the sheer idea of losing anyone else, anything else important to her or that matters is unbearable. It's why she made the sacrifice she did, and she would do it again, however many times necessary to ensure that what needs to be protected is.
These beliefs also extend into her Final Fantasy VII Turk verse, where her loss of memories and the work she does for Shinra makes her feel she doesn't have much to lose as far as herself, if something happens to her, it happens, but she refuses to let anything happen to those she's come to care about in that verse. Unfortunately, as with the MCU/Marvel she's had to go through losses that had profound effects on her, the disappearance of her mentor, the Before Crisis incident and that fallout (if I'm writing her post that), and depending on when I'm writing her when she learns the truth about how she came into Shinra's employment, which tends to fall into anything post Dirge of Cerebus.
In her Star Wars verses, this also carries; in her Imperial Assassin verse she lives and exists according to Palpatine's whims, and she's lost a great deal beyond her life not being her own, and in her Outcast Jedi verse, she's lost and trying to find her place in the galaxy, and has nothing to lose if she has to give her life protecting others who cannot protect themselves as a Jedi would do.
On the flip side of her expendability, loyalty, and fear of losing important people to her, is the fact she is willing to do what needs to be done, even if it kills a part of her to do it. I also feel like this is a fatal flaw, her being so dedicated to doing what she feels is right, even if it means having to take down someone she cares about because they've given her no other choice. Doing so means she's making herself experience one of her worst fears, and having to deal with the aftermath of what that will do to her.
The ultimate fatal flaw, which is the cornerstone of all of these things is her stubbornness. Being stubborn can be a good thing or a bad one depending, and she's very much about sticking to her principles and her own code of ethics and morals, very stubbornly so. Once she's made her mind up, good luck getting her to change it, and she's deceptive, you won't know she's made the decision she has until she springs it on you, and she will fight to see it through (i.e. Vormir in Endgame).
As for a wishlist? Look I've been dying to do something with Natasha's current situation in the MCU (my Nat's anyways) and have her get killed only to come back to life. Also, more stuff to deal with the truth about her in her FFVII Turk verse, and similar stuff with her Star Wars verses, her doing something to save someone she cares about, but maaaaybe let it end happily somehow. XD
---------------------------
😁:
I'm going to be bluntly honest with this and say yes. Sometimes she absolutely brings the angst on herself tho. It's very rare for Natasha to do anything without thinking it over first, analyzing it, and pretty much going through it with a fine toothed comb, she's known as a master tactician for a reason because she can understand what will get the best, and most needed results in a situation. So, she knows exactly what she's doing, and what the plausible and most likely outcome will be in the end. She can be ten steps ahead of you and you have no idea. For example, in Endgame, when Nebula is talking about Vormir and that Thanos came back with the Soul Stone without Gamora, Natasha instantly clued into what it was going to take to get that stone. So, before she and Clint even talked to Red Skull, she already had her game plan and knew what needed to be done, and what she ultimately needed to do.
But sometimes, no she doesn't deserve the angst. As much as I enjoy angst, I also very much enjoy Natasha getting to be happy and have nice things and be able to hold onto all of that and not have to constantly look over her shoulder to make sure her happiness is safe.
