of thomas’ three wives , enola was the one he had an actual attraction to & he didn’t want his sister to kill her , but he was too afraid to go against her. so instead , he’d ‘ pretend ’ to poison her tea , wanting to delay her death. he wasn’t home when she finally did die , but he assumes she eventually succumbed to the poisoning.
