im easy...........and like too much.......personally ! i prefer akira with the older wizards, ive talked about being in those ship tags ummmm a lot<3 i cant narrow it down further......the twins are an exception but ive been over that in the past. atm i like emu with mafuyu, rui, nene & akito a lot :D theres def more (like honami i think would be cute! and i do like her with tsukasa too, but emu tsukasa besties....), but im like twice her age so i think about that stuff so rarely LOLLLL i thought hard about the rest of my muses but.......?????????? eight/machina....perhaps...........sofia/forte.......yeong/tara......(cagli teehee)

i lov drama. with gran it comes natural cuz welcome to ur 'assuming things w/out asking' and 'thinks way too much into the future where they dont want to settle down' captain. i think akiras the most tender of all of them? and most likely to actually bring up issues? sofia is fun because i think about the event where she Doesnt speak in opposites and micah ends up rly confused........being accepted with her weird speech patterns..... natsume too, either staying at the accepting his weird behavior (jumping, scared expression, running) or having the 'i can see youkai' convo....yknow.....its good...i know tanuma alrdy had a convo like that (UNREAL CONVO i miss it) but yknow. Overall ! anything. mostly. theres some 'ohhh angst' topics im not interested in, so i think most stuff stay on the more lighthearted/loving side tho

how large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

feel like a fraud everytime i say that i personally wont write akira with some of the 20yo's cuz im always close to deciding to make akira closer to 30. and then i say i like akira with figaro & oz......the ancient ppl......

Do you think that Tohru is a Mary Sue? Don't get me wrong - I love her very much and I'm aware that the MS term is kind of mysogonistic in its origins as 'perfect' male characters are pretty much never criticized. Regardless I still think she very much fulfills the bill, especially because pretty much everyone except Akito 'gets it' why Tohru is so special to all the other Sohmas the moment they meet her and her fixing everyones problems through the power of kindness. Thoughts?

so i usually dont really like/agree with the usages of mary sue/the more rare gary stu, for the exact reason you said - the times its applied are usually biased and have to do with a certain degree of discrimination. fiction often includes power fantasies, or more broadly, perfection fantasies, and thats not necessarily a problem. i think the defining factor here is the rules and purpose of a given piece of media. in a lot of fiction, itd be absurd for a character like superman to exist - but hes superman, thats his thing, he works in his own universe and context!

so looking at fruits basket: what makes tohru too perfect, and whats the context? i'd argue tohru is far from perfect - shes selfless to a fault which almost gets her killed multiple times, she is naive and trusting again, to a fault. i think a well written characters strengths are also their flaws, and tohru rly fits that imo! i like that about her. i digress tho -

what makes tohru exert power over her context then? like you said, its that the sohmas are so easily won over by her, and view her as special despite her normalcy. which i get why you got the mary sue vibe from i suppose. BUT i would argue thats the point! the sohmas are a family drowning in secrecy, in a very internally focused system, led by perhaps the most selfish of them all who they are supposed to love above all else. tohru's specialness is simply that shes a kind person whos heart is open to anyone. and this is so entirely distinct from the sohmas' experience, that this ends up enough to drag them from the darkness.

maybe its an over optimistic narrative, but imo its necessary and not entirely untrue! looking at the things which helped me escape my abuse and my depression, it absolutely was the influence of kind hearted people who did not judge me. feeling cared for by someone is sometimes all it takes.

again, maybe tohru is given too much credit but - is that a bad thing? fruits basket as a story wanted to show a family who escaped its own toxic cycles from the help of a kind individual. and i think thats wonderful! so if tohrus a mary sue, much like superman in his own context etc... idt it matters rly

maybe you've already listed them but do you have any other favourite moments? :3 or like any scenes that stood out to you more/differently than the manga because of the voice acting ?

oh yeah!! i’ll pick a few that come to the top of my head !! readmore cuz it got screenshot heavy 

i think my favorite scene of the season so far has been the rin/yuki/tohru scene in 2x8, particularly this delivery (one of my fav lines in the manga!!)

and this reverse-shot which actually has more to do with the sfx and track underneath and lack of lines

another big fav is the delivery of these lines + his laughter in 2x18

it is just so bitter and hurt and i can feel that shit in my bones, the delivery is impeccable. rin also uses the same word (favorite/okiniri) to describe shigure here as shigure uses to describe kureno when he’s fighting with akito in 2x10 which i like a lot

all of the delivery from both va’s in the yukeru fight in 2x13 but particularly these yuki lines

theyre so raw and fraught and they sound like they hurt. his delivery whenever he’s around the stuco members (particularly in 2x13 and 2x20) is AMAZING in the complete opposite way, he’s very animated and expressive in a rly natural and open way that just wasnt present in s1 and the way shimazaki built up to it was amazing!! i’m sure i’ll have a lot to say about tomorrow’s ep....

and then for the dub 

the delivery of this is so intense and it sounds like akito is trying so hard to save face, i think clinkenbeard’s delivery here is absolutely perfect

dont think i need to elaborate on this one lol the delivery. was perfect impeccable i love jerry jewell very much

and another “what?” lol i LOVED cooke’s take on dark haru in 2x4, i think it’s spot on, very dark and intense and genuinely scary 

in general thinking about things that stand out in the reboot now because of the acting, ALL of kureno’s lines i absolutely love his english va and he think he rly brings exactly what is needed to the role. i also really like all the va’s they chose to voice the characters as children, particularly kyo’s japanese va and shigure’s english va!!

other standout scenes for acting are 2x10 akigure scene, yuichi nakamura’s shigure in particular, and the akito/tohru scene in 2x10, laura bailey’s tohru in particular

this is nowhere near a complete list, just the moments i could think of off the top of my head!! i’ll definitely do a big list once the season is over now that i know that people are interested though!!
