ART SCHOOL | INTERVIEW WITH JUSTINE JONES

Baltimore based artist and illustrator Justine Jones creates her vein of psychedelic fantasy horror drawings��filled with tiny black lines and an occasional pop of bright colors–which have been featured on the covers of Kobold Press and Warlock magazine. Using the hashtag #VisibleWomen to amplify the voices and portfolios of women comic artists, Justine has be able to do more illustrative work and character design. We’re excited to find out more about Justine’s artistic journey, her love of role-playing games, comics, art, her influences and much more. . . Take the leap!

Introduce yourself? Hi, I’m Justine! I’ve lived in Baltimore Maryland for the past decade and currently live in a small apartment downtown with my partner and my shiba inu Mo, who is a cool and grumpy guy.

How would you describe your work to someone who is just coming across it? I used to call it storybook surrealism, but now I guess it’s more like psychedelic fantasy horror? Monsters and Wizards. Lots of tiny black lines, sometimes with lots of bright intense colors.

How did you start from doodling and drawing to what you do now? I feel like it sort of happened organically. When I was younger, I would do just pencil drawings, and then in my late teens, I got more into using micron pens. I didn’t really discover color until a few years ago, so I’m a huge color noob. I think a lot of it also came from working in comic shops for years and going to conventions. Seeing all of these amazing artists grow, and thinking hey, I could maybe also do that! I first started with t-shirt designs because it just seemed really fun, and I used to have a really hard time selling prints. People don’t need more prints, but they can always use clothes! Now i’m getting more into illustrative work and character design, and I’m loving it!

Who and what were some of your early artistic influences? When I was a baby, my dad hung an Aubrey Beardsley print over my crib. My mom thought it would make me deranged, and maybe it did, but it also made me love ink work and Art Nouveau style haha. I was obsessed with sword and sorcery stuff and loooved cartoons like He-Man and She-ra, and later, Pirates of Darkwater. I also spent a lot of time in elementary school copying sexy comic book ladies from 90s comics, and I know that is pretty far from what I do now, but it’s honestly how I learned to draw. I also copied a lot from children’s storybooks when I was little.

What are some things that inspire the drawings you make? What are some of your favorite creatures and beings you like to explore in your art? Video games are a huge inspiration to me, from SNES JRPGs, to games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Also folklore and mythology from around the world, and fantasy artwork from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Basically anything fantasy. My favorite things to draw are wizards and monsters. I love body horror, anything disgusting and beautiful at the same time. I take a lot of inspiration from Manga, like Berserk, or anything Junji Ito. I’ve done a lot of Illustrations for Clark Ashton Smith stories, which I find endlessly inspiring, visually. Just like, fantasy/ sci fi/ dying earth type stuff.

When did you start collaborating with Kobold Press on creating some awesome fantasy art covers for their publications? I remember getting the email from them when I was on the way to Necronomicon Providence in 2017. I thiiiink they found my stuff through the visible women hashtag on twitter? I was very excited because I owned some of their adventures from back in the day when I played Pathfinder!! Plus, I have always always wanted to draw things for table top RPGs, so it’s been really cool to actually do it! The Warlock mag that I’ve been doing covers for is awesome because it’s going for an old school DND vibe, but it’s all things that are made for 5th edition. You can get it on their patreon, and I hiiiighly recommend it to anyone who plays 5e dnd!!

Take us through your artistic process? What’s a typical day in the studio like? Haha extremely chaotic! I don’t even have a real set workspace, which I really need to change, I just draw where ever. Just chill out, listen to music or a podcast, and draw. If I’m further along in a drawing and don’t need to focus so much, I’ll watch movies or video gameπ– let’s plays while I’m drawing. I also love to listen to/ watch things that are in theme with what I’m drawing, to give me some inspiration. I try to go to coffee shops to change things up sometimes! Basically I just do a bunch of sketches until something materializes, and then I will just slowly refine the sketch. I guess it’s not that exciting, but it’s cool to see the first sketch and the finished product because in my head, the sketch always looked like the finished product, but when you go back to look at it, it’s usually just indecipherable scribbles.

What are your essential art tools and materials? 90% of my art is just done using a .05 mechanical pencil and micron pens. I also draw everything on smooth bristol. If I have time and want to make my lines super crisp before I scan them in, i will use a light box. Then for color, I generally use Kyle T Webster brushes in Photoshop with my Wacom tablet. If I’m on the go, I like to draw things in Procreate on my iPad Pro, but I’m definitely not as good at doing detailed lines digitally.

What do you do when you’re not drawing or working on projects? How do you unplug? Haha, I wish I ever truly unplugged, I think my brain is now melded into the internet! But mostly I love to play video games. JRPGs and anything From Software/ Soulsborne (currently obsessed with Sekiro!) I also love comics and manga. I’ve been reading The Girl From the Other Side, which is a beautiful dark fairytale Manga by Nagabe. I also just got one called Witch Hat Atelier, which has the most amazing art! My partner also owns an insane amount of board games, so we play a lot of those. I’m obsessed with coffee, and work part time at a coffee shop, and my favorite thing in the world to do is eat good food.

What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on? How did you overcome those obstacles and what did you take away from it? I made a kind of cosmic horror short story in mini comic form last year for SPX, I had very little time, and it was my first time actually writing a story/ dialogue to go with my pictures. It was insanely challenging. I ended up with a finished product that I’m really proud of and that I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on. I think it really drove home the fact that I just need to stick with things and finish them, even if I don’t feel like they’re perfect. I’m never going to have the time that I want, and I’m never going to feel like anything is perfect. I can still make a great thing!

What advice would you give someone who wants to follow in your footsteps and pursue art? Don’t spend 4 years doing nothing, but playing World of Warcraft (Or doooo?). Uhhh, believe in yourself. Be nice to other artists. Draw all the time! Immerse yourself in things that inspire you! Also, like I said before, things don’t need to be perfect. Let go of perfect, because sometimes it’s an unattainable ideal. Just do as good as you can, and don’t beat yourself up so much! I’m horrible at advice!!!

What’s your best Art School tip that you want to share with folks? Haha, I moved to Baltimore to go to MICA like, 14 years ago, and then realized I was poor, and would never be able to go to MICA… sooo… I never went to real art school. I wanted to go so bad, and I still wish I’d had that experience, but I want other people who can’t afford it to know that you don’t NEED it. Things are a bit harder, but you can find so much free info online if you have the drive, you can teach yourself so many things. Don’t get discouraged just because art school isn’t gonna happen for you.

What are your favorite style of VANS? I love my lavender/ sea fog Authentic Vans, because they basically go with anything, but I am always eyeing those Sk8-His.

Anything you can share that is coming up? Ahhhh, I have some realllly cool things that I can’t share yet, but just everyone keep an eye out (It will be very exciting, i swear)!! As for things I can share, I’m working on some new t-shirt designs, and another comic, and also plan on drawing some more cool wizards in my spare time. You're not delusional for entertaining the possibility of Brienne as YMB

“If you think anyone but [Insert Queen, most commonly Dany] is the YMB then you’re delusional” is something I have seen quite frequently, so I’ve been inspired to explain why that’s uh...well, complete bullshit.

To be delusional, you need to be spewing garbage without any reason or support and lack any sense of reality. But… there is plenty of evidence and reasoning, based in reality, to simply entertain a theory that isn’t [Insert Easy Choice].

Let me state that I'm not saying with total confidence that Brienne is YMB. I am not saying she is or is not. My claim is that Brienne is a perfectly logical candidate, and that being completely sold on a traditional choice, to the point where you’re publicly making asshole cocky comments about it, is risky af. I’m tired of people shutting down any discussion of it.

This is GRRM. This isn’t supposed to be easy (he literally said this, as shown below). There should be multiple interpretations to this prophecy. People who think it’s Brienne or Sansa or Marg or whoever may be wrong, or people who think it’s Daenerys may be wrong. Or maybe this is supposed to be ambiguous and we’ll never get a definitive answer. Maybe it’s multiple people. It all depends on what angle GRRM is going with. He could be going very literal and traditional with this, sure. Or, he could be going a more poetic route, which is also a style of his writing. Obviously by this post, I prefer the latter, but I see different angles. I’m not going to pretend I’m psychic by claiming I’m right and you’re wrong, and I’m not going misuse the word delusional. If you come after me later with, “LOL I TOLD YOU SO” I’m just going to say you missed the entire point of my post and my point is still 100% valid.

SO. Here is why you all have NO RIGHT to a) be so damn confident in your traditional choices and b) put down others for entertaining Brienne.

Hang on tight. This is long as fuck. First, you need to promise me you’ll do two things.

My two rules:

Consider authorial intent when thinking about meaning and trajectory and

Step outside the bubble and look at this story from a professional angle. A good narrative written by a professional author has structure and purpose.

Before I properly dive into this, let’s see what GRRM has to say about prophecies:

Prophecies are, you know, a double edge sword. You have to handle them very carefully; I mean, they can add depth and interest to a book, but you don’t want to be too literal or too easy…

I mean…. That should be enough to shake your confidence. He even gives an example.

In the Wars of the Roses, that you mentioned, there was one Lord who had been prophesied he would die beneath the walls of a certain castle and he was superstitious at that sort of walls, so he never came anywhere near that castle. He stayed thousands of leagues away from that particular castle because of the prophecy. However, he was killed in the first battle of St. Paul de Vence and when they found him dead he was outside of an inn whose sign was the picture of that castle! [Laughs] So you know? That’s the way prophecies come true in unexpected ways. The more you try to avoid them, the more you are making them true, and I make a little fun with that.

So you always want to frustrate our expectations, am I right?

Yes, it was always my intention: to play with the reader’s expectations. Before I was a writer I was a voracious reader and I am still, and I have read many, many books with very predictable plots. As a reader, what I seek is a book that delights and surprises me. - GRRM

A physically beautiful Queen, or physical beauty in general, would essentially be the Lord being correct of his fate and dying in that castle. The Lord expected to die in that castle. Cersei’s only expectation to YMB is to be “cast down and take all you hold dear” by a literal beauty, literal Queen. That is obviously the reader’s expectation as well. Hello fandom! Cersei doesn’t know who this literal beauty/literal Queen is. She constantly obsesses over WHO, but is always wrong, maybe because it isn’t surface level obvious and it’s her incorrect interpretation, just like lord’s interpretation was wrong. He didn’t die in a literal castle.

See, I’m obviously so delusional for thinking GRRM might be doing, um… exactly what he said? There’s nothing from reality to support an idea that GRRM may not go the easy, literal route. There’s absolutely no reason for me to think this may not be so simple.

-Younger, More Beautiful-

Brienne is a possible candidate for the YMB.

...it was always my intention: to play with the reader’s expectations.

For both Cersei and the readers (again hello Freefolk, Twitter, Tumblr), Brienne as the unexpected YMB is a twist to the literal interpretation, fitting GRRM’s idea on how prophecies should be written.

“But everything that has happened about the prophecy was literal so duh this has to be literal!”

The literal parts of the prophecy were marrying the King and the number of children she’ll have. Yeah… there isn’t anything subjective to that, so it’s not surprising that it’s straightforward. She asked a question, Maggy gave her an answer. Besides the part with the children dying, the bit we’re talking about was stuff Maggy added in. Also, is there like a prophecy rule book somewhere I’m not aware of? Maybe consider that we got easy literal bits mixed in so we (and Cersei) are misdirected by the actual focus? Maybe consider that it’s possible for a prophecy to have some literal elements and some not? Maybe consider that a way more subjective (-cough-beauty-cough-) part of the prophecy isn’t as straightforward?

Moving on.

“Aye.” Malice gleamed in Maggy’s yellow eyes. “Queen you shall be… until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.”- CERSEI VIII, AFFC

It’s common to see “younger more beautiful QUEEN” (YMBQ) floating around fandom. Technically, Maggy never says the person is a Queen, whether literal or symbolic. She says “another.” An equally valid interpretation of that can be, “someone else who is younger and more beautiful than you.”

“Um no, it definitely implies a Queen because the words after and because of the context.”

If you really want to argue that GRRM definitely implies Queen, well, here’s something to chew on.

I’m not going to describe how Brienne’s arc is definitely not ending as her being someone’s bodyguard for the rest of her life. That’s for another time. But that doesn’t even matter really, because it has been made intentionally clear that Brienne is her father’s only heir. Once Brienne’s father dies, even if she’s still active on the battlefield, someone’s bodyguard, or still fucking off somewhere, she will still technically be the Evenstar.

- The Evenstar -

The Evenstar was a title given to the Tarth Kings. That title is still used. Why? It’s interesting to think that GRRM gave random minor House Tarth a specific title used for Kings, and that he allowed the House to continue using that title. Because he created that title for that House and allowed them to keep it, that title becomes symbolic of their previous kingdom. This is similar to our real world where some nations or groups retain titles from their history as more of a symbol. Selwyn Tarth is still known as the Evenstar. Selwyn Tarth is a symbolic King. When he dies (which will probably happen soon), Brienne automatically inherits that title, making her a symbolic Queen. And we all know how much GRRM loves symbolic meaning.

“I still think it’s a LITERAL Queen.”

I mean, a possible theory is that the throne will be destroyed at the end of this and the realm will split back into separate kingdoms. Sooo, if that happens……………………….

- What does Maggy mean by beautiful?-

I have a really hard time believing that GRRM wants everyone to sit down and argue over who is physically more beautiful between his characters. In every story there are themes explored and messages woven within, so each character with an arc is going to have themes and messages associate with them. One of the themes being explored with Cersei is beauty. (This theme is explored through both Jaime’s and Brienne’s arcs as well, which isn’t a coincidence.)

Cersei’s interpretation of beauty lies on the exterior This is an element of her narcissism (word by GRRM).

(“Cersei isn’t narcissistic????”

You can argue, well, does she genuinely love her children, or does she just love them because they’re her children? There’s certainly a great level of narcissism in Cersei. She has an almost sociopathic view of the world and civilization. - GRRM

Don’t even go there)

In her eyes, a person’s worth is tied to how physically attractive they are. She is obsessed over being beautiful, and her twin being beautiful. Her attitude towards her twin changes when he returns handless. Cersei’s interpretation of the prophecy is that she will be cast down by a physical beauty, which is why she goes after Margaery (Dany most likely later on/Dany in the show). But remember this?

you don’t want to be too literal or too easy

It’s possible GRRM isn’t talking about physical beauty here. a) too literal and b) Cersei is being taught a lesson, and the readers are being sent a message. Like, you know… what good quality literature does. This is important to understand. Maggy probably realizes this about Cersei (like any classic Beauty and the Beast Witch), thus fulfilling the prophecy on her own, her own downfall being caused by her inability to recognize power with inner beauty.

“But Cersei is bringing her own downfall by obsessively trying to avoid the prophecy. As GRRM said, ‘The more you try to avoid them, the more you are making them true.”

And by obsessively going after her interpretation of what beauty is, she’s missing what’s right in front of her face.

“He took Raventree and accepted Lord Blackwood’s surrender,” said her uncle, “but on his way back to Riverrun he left his tail and went off with a woman.”

“A woman?” Cersei stared at him, uncomprehending. “What woman? Why? Where did they go?”

“No one knows. We’ve had no further word of him. The woman may have been the Evenstar’s daughter, Lady Brienne.”

Her. The queen remembered the Maid of Tarth, a huge, ugly, shambling thing who dressed in man’s mail. Jaime would never abandon me for such a creature. My raven never reached him, elsewise he would have come.

- CERSEI I, ADWD

I mean… this right here, imo, is pretty significant, but it’s frequently ignored.

We see Cersei feeling a bit threatened by her rapid fire questioning of what, why, and where.

She places emphasis on Brienne’s looks.

The use of Her. That’s rather strong. GRRM could have taken “Her” out and started her thoughts with, “The queen remembered” but there’s something forceful - as if making a point- to use Her. GRRM also made sure the readers knew that Cersei knows of this woman, and knows what she looks like. From a narrative standpoint, if Brienne’s inner beauty contrasting her outward appearance isn’t an important element in the downfall of Cersei, then there’s literally no reason why Cersei needed to have seen Brienne before. Remember my rules? Yeah, apply them to this one.

“Er, Brienne’s appearance is mentioned so that Cersei knows to not be jealous.”

…I think, “Jaime would never abandon me for such a creature” is basically saying “LOL well he did.” It’s GRRM telling Cersei, and the readers, that her answer is right there, right under her fucking nose, but she’s too dense and superficial to see it, which is the point of the Brienne theory.

“It’s there just to show that Brienne is taking Jaime away even though she’s ugly, but it has nothing to do with YMB.”

Yes, that is also the point. Again, an interpretation of a key message of the prophecy is that beauty isn’t literal, and beauty lies within. If we’re looking at the prophecy as a lesson to both the readers and Cersei, similar to The Witch in Beauty and the Beast - a tale and theme GRRM has been confirmed writing, then… why wouldn’t that be connected? “Brienne the Beauty” is literally the only character to challenge Cersei’s superficial perceptions, and the only one who has been set up to do so. In other words, for this particular theory, narcissism and superficiality drives Cersei’s downfall.

Also, I find it curious that instead of saying, “Lord Selwyn Tarth’s daughter, Lady Brienne” which would have been way more straightforward and which he could have easily done, GRRM instead used his other title, “the Evenstar’s daughter” which basically translates to, “the Princess.” A possible nod to the future Evenstar, the future symbolic (or even potentially literal) Queen, if Cersei and readers want to interpret the person as a Queen.

Reminder: that’s a fact. Not wishful thinking. Regardless of what Brienne is doing or where she is, she will literally inherit the title the Evenstar.

- Brienne the Beauty -

BRIENNE IS AN INNER BEAUTY. This has been intentional and made crystal clear over and over. Brienne is the Beastly Beauty. A… beauty who gives a lesson by challenging Cersei’s perception of beauty and…. She is intentionally written as younger and….. she will have a title that’s a symbolic Queen and… her story is tied to Cersei’s lover? :O

Look, it’s no secret that one of GRRM’s favorite narratives is Beauty and the Beast. As mentioned above, he is writing an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

George R.R. Martin said what he wanted to do was to take the traditional format of Beauty and the Beast and change the roles — and also the genders. - Gwendoline Christie

[GRRM] also said that when he wrote the story of Jaime and Brienne, he was taking the formula of Beauty and the Beast and turning it on its head. He wanted to see what it was like for the man to be the beauty and the woman to be the beast and how that would play out. - Gwendoline Christie

I spoke to George R.R. Martin about this, and he said that it was always his intention with Jaime and Brienne to take the classic Beauty and the Beast story, and turn it on its head. Brienne is not ‘unconventionally attractive’, she’s ugly, and she’s ugly to society. She is the beast.- Gwendoline Christie

He’s taking the traditional format (a romance) and switching the genders and roles. The entire point of BatB is to destroy the idea that love and beauty are determined by superficial qualities.

Guys again, I’m so delusional. There is nothing to see here. None of this is from anything real.

“But that’s just for Jaime.”

There can be other characters in a Beauty and the Beast adaptation. It’s an adaptation, not word for word. Other characters can be used to deliver the message, especially if the character is uh… linked to and romantically involved with one of the BatB inspired characters. For example, in the Disney adaptation we have Gaston (who… now that I think about it, actually has a similar Cersei way of thinking, ngl lol).

Brienne is the one character who has the actual name of Beauty associated with her. She is Cersei’s opposite. Brienne is the epitome of what Cersei cannot understand. A theme explored through Cersei is beauty, which is a theme that’s heavily explored through Brienne as well. Brienne’s character has been shaped around rejection due to her appearance. Literally every page in her POV is about how ugly and undesirable she is. Therefore, it’s very possible their characters are connected by a shared beauty theme.

- The Prophecy -

Okay, the rest of this stupid thing for YMB. Here we go.

”Will I wed the prince?” she asked.

“Never. You will wed the king.”

Beneath her golden curls, the girl’s face wrinkled up in puzzlement. For years after, she took those words to mean that she would marry Rhaegar until after his father Aerys had died.

GRRM straight up telling the readers that Cersei interprets this shit incorrectly.

”I will be queen, though?” asked the younger her.

“Aye.” Malice gleamed in Maggy’s yellow eyes. “Queen you shall be… until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.

“But ginmo, -sigh-, Cersei doesn’t hold Jaime most dear. The thing she holds most dear is power.”

Is she not always jealous and bitter over how Jaime is born to be heir and she is not? Does Jaime not represent the Lannister legacy she craves? Does Ms. “my brother is worth a thousand of your men” not lose any amount of power if Jaime stops doing what she wants? Is Jaime’s identity shift not influenced by Brienne the Beauty? Where is Jaime in both books and show? Couldn’t Brienne’s influence on Jaime mean Cersei loses power, a lover, her legacy? Jaime is power.

And then, again, there is also the straightforward route with the Kingdom splitting up possibility and Brienne the Evenstar….

Then we get this perfect little nugget.

Anger flashed across the child’s face. “If she tries I will have my brother kill her.”

I WILL HAVE MY BROTHER KILL HER I’M DYING. This is something that is repeated TWICE. Here in the prophecy and later in the chapter when she’s talking to Qyburn about the prophecy.

”...another queen, who would take from me all I loved.”

“And you wish to forestall this prophecy?”

More than anything, she thought. Even in the tent. “If she tries I will have my brother kill her.”

This is another moment to apply my two rules. There is literally no point to this being thrown in there if Jaime is not connected to the YMB, and definitely no point to emphasize a second time that she’d have her brother kill her. The words are not, “I will have her killed,” which could have left it ambiguous and easily been done. No, she (which is GRRM) specifically uses “my brother will kill her.” The irony is that, JAIME IS IN LOVE WITH HER. HE’S IN LOVE WITH THE BEAUTY.

“No, the irony is that by that time Jaime won’t listen anymore to her.”

I mean, that’s possible obvioiusly, but… yawn? That has practically zero emotional weight attached to it. I personally lean more towards this being a massive hint, that Jaime is the LAST person to kill the YMB, because he lost his heart to her, which makes it so delicious and juicy. GRRM is essentially having a massive evil laughing fit.

Another small note, during the Maggy the Frog scene, after delivering the YMB message to Cersei, Melara asks if she’ll marry Jaime. When they leave, Cersei kills Melara for wishing to marry Jaime, which is GRRM telling the readers that Jaime most certainly represents something Cersei holds dear, or else she wouldn’t be killing her. It’s not a coincidence this was right after she learned about the YMB.

- Cersei is her own downfall -

The more you try to avoid them, the more you are making them true

In the show Cersei is threatened by Dany as YMB (since it’s possible she incorrectly interpreted the prophecy, wow what a concept that’s not possible at all). This was made clear by the script notes. Apply my rules here as well.

But what’s the meaning of Cersei being taken down by a physical beauty? That just… proves her right? That would be the Lord dying in the literal castle? It just supports Cersei’s superficial world view by sending absolutely no message to her character? From a narrative standpoint, there’s no point to have YMB be a literal beauty. Again, is it possible he’s going the literal route? YES. But considering GRRM implements a ton of metaphor and symbolic meaning in his work, that he literally said he’s writing a BatB narrative so Beauty Within is definitely present, and he straight up said he doesn’t like his prophecies to be entirely literal, I’m going to at least have fun and entertain the non-surface level interpretation, and I’m therefore not delusional for doing so.

And since Cersei is bringing her own downfall, how would Dany even fit? Dany would have been going after that throne regardless of whoever’s ass was sitting on it. Dany’s pursuit of the throne has absolutely nothing to Cersei, and everything to do with what she believes is her right. My point is, if Cersei’s butt wasn’t there, Dany would still be doing exactly what she’s doing. So how is Dany taking the throne a consequence of Cersei bringing it upon herself? Cersei and Dany are completely separate from one another. Even if AU Cersei was nice to all of her allies and Jaime, Ned knew the identity of her children, and therefore a fractured Westeros would still exist. In the show, it’s been made clear that she thinks it’s now Dany so...… going back to my points outlined above, if she thinks it’s Dany, maybe it’s possible she’s wrong.

You know the one character Cersei will NEVER see as a threat, due to her narcissistic inability? Brienne the Beauty.

Hey did you guys know that there’s actually thought and technique that goes into the formatting and structure of a book, especially a book series? That the structure of chapters and the format aren’t just randomly thrown together? DEFINITELY apply my two rules here.

When was this prophecy introduced? AFFC, the book Cersei AND Brienne conveniently got a POV, the book that is mostly Jaime, Cersei, and Brienne centric. Who has a POV chapter immediately after Cersei’s prophecy? Brienne. Why is it structured this way? Was it random that the book was mostly a Lannister twin + Brienne book? No...

What can that possibly imply?

The main story running through each of those characters is the same. In other words, those three are connected to the same subplot - BatB- and are therefore connected through the same themes.

POSSIBLE? Yes.

DELUSIONAL? No.

Also my favorite. Look at this chapter ending. LOOK AT IT. Feel the dramatic pause. DO YOU CLAIM THIS IS RANDOM?

I dare you tell me that there is no thought that goes into a chapter end.

I dare you to tell me that the Cersei chapter following is meaningless, like the structure of a book doesn’t go through an editing process, that chapter ends aren’t significant and the structures aren’t another element in the story telling process.

I dare you to tell me that “Brienne the Beauty” weren’t words intentionally chosen by a professional author.

We first hear about “younger, more beautiful” in CERSEI III - AFFC, and then Brienne is referred to as, “Brienne the Beauty” shortly after in BRIENNE III - AFFC. The only other time Brienne's nickname of “Brienne the Beauty” was mentioned was when Catelyn made note of it. It wasn’t in ASOS when there were plenty of opportunities, and it only came up again (...four times) right after Cersei thinks about YMB for the first time.

OKAY SO when I was about 8 my Mum bought me this book:

(please pardon my star blanket) and I was obsessed with it bc DOGS!!!1!!!!!!!1! and one of the characters’ names was Matthias, and I remember thinking “wow Matthias is such a cool name, I wish my name could be Matthias.” AND LIKE NEWS FLASH LITTLE-MATT, GUESS WHAT, IT IS!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D <3 <3 <3 (Also it wasn’t toooooo dissimilar to my deadname, so it wasn’t much of a jump - it even means the same thing - ‘gift of God’ - even if it is terribly inaccurate if put into context with me X’D

4. what was the most helpful in figuring out and accepting yourself as trans?

Experimenting. Especially online since I had no fucking idea how my folks were going to react. Going by different pronouns/a different name, trying on different types of clothes, cutting my hair, trying to walk a bit different and letting myself come out of my shell a bit to act more like me rather than trying to hide everything away. Just find a safe space to experiment, and do research. Lots and lots of research. And also knowing that it’s 110% okay to change your mind about anything at any time is nice. <3

The biggest tip I would give to anybody questioning their gender and/or sexuality though is: do not come out until you are comfortable in yourself first and do not let anybody pressure you into coming out before then, even yourself. Trust me. Don’t make the same mistake I did because it will make everything a billion times harder.

6. what’s something you’re most looking forward to in your transition (or something that was your favorite part of transitioning)?

God not having to have my anxiety through the roof thinking that somebody’s gonna notice my chest. I cannot wait to get top surgery I need it so bad. I can’t remember the last time I relaxed in a public space - in any space, really. It’s just a constant thing. Also starting T at some stage and getting a deeper voice and hopefully getting rid of most of the feminine curves bc ugh on women they’re amazing but on me *insert gagging noises here*. Also hopefully having less and less dysphoria would be nice :’)

8. who was the first person you came out to (or plan to come out to)?

My former best friend/abuser. And honestly even though she was the world’s biggest abusive manipulative bitch, she did that right and supported me and made me feel very comfortable. Though looking back that may have been because she liked the idea of having a trans person as a best friend but eh, it helped me at the time so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

10. have you ever been to pride?

No, I haven’t. ://// :(((( I really really really wanted to go this year but with the big move and all that, I couldn’t. So NEXT YEAR IS THE YEAR, BABY!! :D :D <3 <3

“YOU’RE A BOY YOU TREMENDOUS DUMBASS!!!!!” uhh, apart from that, tell myself that A) it’s gonna be okay, and B) not to let anybody else dictate who you are, it’s your life, nobody else’s.

I mean... what are gender roles?? Most of what are considered a man’s ‘gender roles’ are just harmful toxic masculinity under a thin veneer. I like to be able to support and protect my loved ones in every way, I want to be a strong, solid presence, I like the colour blue, tattoos, very masculine clothes, rolling around in the mud, being physically strong, but then again so do many women. I also like the colour yellow, have died my hair pink, and don’t always subscribe to the ideas that many men seem to have. I don’t want to be “the head of the household” because I want my partner and I to be equal and have mutual respect for one another. What even is gender and gender roles??

MY TRANS FRIENDS. <3 But otherwise, no, not really?? I don’t really trust people enough to have role models lmao.

26. what makes you most proud to be part of the trans community?

Umm...I don’t really know. Honestly, I think there’s a lot of toxicity in the trans community and I try to avoid it. :/// But I do like that we keep on getting up and raising our voices and that we don’t give up. :D

28. if you went by multiply names before deciding your current name, which was the first?

OOF I sort of always leaned toward Matthias but I thought about Chance for a while?? Until I decided that if I wanted to I could have that as my middle name. So I didn’t really debate for longer than two weeks or so. XD I also thought about Ben too lmao X’D

30. if you experience dysphoria, what do you find helps you the most?

Ugh. Just avoiding it really. I put on my baggiest clothes, burrito myself up in a blanket and try to ignore it until it fades a bit. Or focus on the things I can and will do in the future to get rid of it. But really there’s no way to help it, because you’re trapped in this body and it’s just a constant presence hanging over you. I just can’t wait till I get top surgery, that’ll help. :’)

32. which gender roles or cis beliefs do you find most ridiculous?

... All of it?? Idk man, gender is so weird. There are gay men who are absolutely 110% male who do drag and wear makeup and dresses. There’s straight women who are very masculine. Gender is only what you make it. If you feel like you’re a woman, you’re a woman no matter what you wear or what you do with your hair or if you wear makeup, same for men, and for non-binary people. Like really if you truly think about what defines gender, there’s nothing but what people make it for themselves.

As for cis beliefs, like some people don’t think a person’s trans till after they transition and get “The Surgery” like.... dudes.... why do you think the person was transitioning in the first place....??//?????//??/? XD

34. do you fit any trans stereotypes?

I mean I’m white so I certainly fit the media’s belief of what is the only type of trans person THE SHADE

I mean, I’m small and angry, so there’s that. And I do tend to have a few feminine mannerisms still I guess??? or maybe that’s just my butthead dysphoria speaking. And I also do stare at my chest for hours on end scowling and poking it sooo... X’D

A/N: So the bondi rescue fandom is seriously lacking in, well, everything. It’s an amazing show and if you like shirtless guys, then you’d enjoy it. Season 10 and 11 are on netflix and season 13 premiered yesterday. ANYWHO, I wanted to write something due to the extreme lack in fics (especially fics here on tumblr), and Harrison fics in general. (wattpad has a bunch but they’re like 62% jesse and 35% Maxi)

Another note: I usually don’t care for the soulmates au’s but I got this idea a couple days ago and I’m kinda obsessed with it, so yeah. Here we go –

Soulmates are a weird concept to me. Despite the fact that it’s how our society works. Like, you’re supposed to meet and fall in love with a complete stranger just because they have the same tattoo as you? What kind of higher power decided that was a good idea? But, it’s a thing and I guess I just have to deal with it.

Everyone gets their tattoo at a different time in their lives. Sometimes they appear right away when you’re born, sometimes you have to wait until you’re in your 20s or 30s until it appears. They appear someplace on your body with a white ink look, and slowly turn black as you get closer to meeting your soulmate – emphasis on slowly. Even if you do meet them, it’s a gradual change to black, so it may take a couple hours up to a couple days or weeks before you even know it’s them.

My parents were lucky enough to be high school sweethearts. Ironically enough, their tattoos are hearts; my mom’s is on her hip, my dad’s on his wrist. My older brother and his wife were also high school sweethearts, though it took much longer for their tattoos to turn to black for some reason. We always joke that they had a glitch or something. My younger sister literally met her soulmate in kindergarten. Like, wtf? They’re sophomores and still too young to marry, but still. And then there’s me. I’m 22, about to start my last year of college, and still have yet to meet my soulmate. Middle child syndrome I guess? I’m starting to think he doesn’t exist.

Not only that but I was also a late bloomer in even getting my soulmate tattoo. It didn’t appear until summer last year: a wave on my ankle.

Considering it showed up so late, I can only assume that I won’t meet my soulmate until I’m like 35 or something. So I guess he does exist since I at least have a tattoo. It’s just finding him that will be the challenge now. Like I said, my final year of college is starting soon, meaning that I will be graduating in May, which means that I have to find a job and be out in the real world, making it even harder to find the guy.

Growing up on the coast has its perks. Not only is it warm a majority of the year, but if you live anywhere near a beach, you probably grew up surfing or doing something related to water. I’m pretty sure I’ve been swimming since I came out of the womb. And as soon as I could walk, my dad was taking me out and teaching me to surf. By the time I was 13, I was winning almost all the competitions I was in. I definitely wasn’t famous by any means, but a lot of people knew who I was. I did that up though high school. Focusing on my studies, I surf a lot less now, but many students and professors still recognize me and it’s kind of weird. But I wasn’t about to do four years of online college, sooo….

That all aside, I suppose I shouldn’t be complaining this much. I’m kicking off my senior year by taking a summer trip to Australia. How many people get to say that? And I’ve heard there’s amazing surf there too, so I’ll be doing that for sure. I wasn’t even really planning on taking this trip but just a few days ago I talked to my parents about it and they were okay with it, so I just booked it. Talk about spontaneity right?

I make though customs smoothly and as I enter the plane for the dreaded 15 hour flight from LAX to Sydney, I try to get comfortable. Luckily, it seems like a decently small amount of passengers, so after a few hours, I should be able to find a row of seats to lay down on. And just that happens. Once we take off and high enough to turn on electronics, I get on my computer for a while. I check social medias, watch a little Netflix and hulu, and write on the blog diary I decided to keep for this week.

After quite some time of that, my eyes start to hurt from looking at my screen, and I decide to finally sleep for hopefully the rest of the flight, but who knows? It’s dark out so that should help a little. There are a couple people in my row unfortunately, but by some odd luck, the row behind us is completely empty. I put my laptop away, shove my bag under the seat and shimmy out of the row of seats I’m currently in. Going into the overhead bins to grab some sleeping stuff, I pull out a small pillow and my sleeping mask. I then go into the row behind us and prepare myself for what is hopefully a decent sleep.

Time passes, and when I wake up I check the little tv screen on the back of the seat in front of me to see where we are and how much time is left on the flight. Surprisingly, I slept a good six hours meaning I only have about four hours left of this flight. After calling a flight attendant and ordering some food because I’m starving, I pull out my computer again and occupy myself for the remaining time on this flight. Considering we’re over the ocean – well, just flying in general – I have no point of reference to try to figure out what time it is where I’m at, but my phone says 1PM Cali time. I think that means it’s just after 7AM in Sydney. Time zones are so weird because I left home just after midnight on a Sunday, and when I land in Sydney, it’ll be 11AM Tuesday already. Wild.

The beep of the intercom brings me out of my concentration on my computer screen. “Ladies and gentleman, this is your captain speaking. We are preparing our descent to Sydney. The current time is 11:34 in the morning, Tuesday, and the current temperature is a balmy 78°. That’s 25 for you locals.” There’s a few chuckles across the plane and the fasten seatbelts sign lights up. Putting away my things and going back to my original seat, I buckle up and prepare for landing.

Landing smoothly, it takes half hour before we get to our gate. It takes another half hour after that to even get my things and get off the plane. Walking off of the air conditioned plane and into the Australia heat, the captain wasn’t lying when he said it was balmy. I almost immediately start sweating. You’d think I’d be used to this, living in SoCal, but nope. I guess not. It’s all good once I get back into the airport. I head straight to baggage claim, find my suitcase, and head out to get a taxi. Luckily, there’s a small line of taxis waiting to pick up morning arrivals. After the few families ahead of me get in their taxis and leave, I get to the front of the line and greet my driver. After getting my suitcase and carry-ons loaded in the trunk, I get in the back of the car.

“Where to?” Alex, my taxi driver asks.

“Hotel Ravesis.”

“Okay! Pretty fancy.”

I chuckle, “Is it? There was a deal when I booked it, so I’m not sure.”

“Oh yes. It’s on Campbell Parade, which is right across the road from Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s most famous beaches.”

“Ooh nice!” I say excitedly. “Can’t wait to go there.”

“Swimmer?”

“And surfer. I’ve been surfing basically since I could walk.”

“Oh wow! Well you’ll have a great time here then. Any special reason you’re visiting?”

I shake my head, “Not really. Just doing a big solo trip before I start my senior year of college.”

“Very nice. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.”

We continue to talk for the entire half hour of the drive. When we arrive, I pay him and he helps me get my things to the entryway of the hotel. I thank him again and head in. After checking in, I head to my room and finally relax on the bed. Next thing I know, I’m waking up and two more hours have passed. Guess I was a lot more tired that I thought I was. In my defense, the hotel bed is quite a bit more comfortable than a row of airplane seats.

Now a little after four, I decide I should probably find someplace to eat a proper meal, which I haven’t had since before I left home. I think there’s a café within or right outside this hotel, so I decide to go there.

After an amazing meal, I decide to take it easy and just walk around this famous Campbell Parade. I’m not tired yet, but the jet lag will probably catch up to me tomorrow. Walking down the street, there’s a bunch of shops and food places, just like any other big city. Definitely more surf shops though.

It takes me only about 20 minutes to walk from the hotel to end up on the far northeast side of the beach. If I remember correctly, Alex said that this was the famous Bondi Beach. Probably a dream of every surfer to be here. And here I am. Though I’m far less than prepared – I don’t have my swimsuit or even a towel – that doesn’t mean I can’t take a walk along the beach. I head down the stairs beside what looks like the kiddie pool, take off my flip flops, and slowly begin my walk.

The water is so blue, the sand isn’t too hot, and it’s just an overall beautiful day. And there’s so many people here! Many probably are not fond of the crowds, but I love it. My favorite part is that no one here knows who I am. Being in the surfing circuit back home, everyone knew who you were no matter where you were…especially me since I was winning all the time.

As I begin my walk I see children playing in the pool and the shallows of the ocean, other people swimming all along the coast, surfers further out catching waves, and more people just sunbathing on the sand. This feels like home to me. I can’t wait to be surfing here tomorrow. I walk in between the mass of people and the wall barricading the far end of the beach. I make it half way, right by the big lifeguard tower. If I hadn’t spent my whole childhood surfing competitively, I probably would have been a lifeguard in high school during the summer months. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do – save people’s lives.

Stopping for a moment, I take in the view. I may be here all week, but I’ll be spending most of it in the water, so now is a good time to just look at it all. I walk a little further and get to the steps where visitors can enter the beach. Going up a few to get a better view, I pull out my phone and take a few pictures. Not only is the attendance at the beach astounding, but so is the sunset. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful. Right as I begin my descent, I hear the starting of a motor. I look to my left and see an atv of some sort hooked up to a trailer with a jet ski speed to the water. My eyes follow it and its occupants. These are clearly the lifeguards, as noted by their blue pullovers which I couldn’t read, but another one came running down the stairs from the lifeguard tower carrying something and getting in another atv, and I saw that their pullover said LIFEGUARD. Now I know who to look out for.

I continue down the entrance stairs and continue my walk down the beach. Making it to the end, I walk up the ramp so I can get back on a sidewalk. It is now just after six, so I complete my circle and eat a small dinner just by the hotel at a café. After finishing, I head back to my room and sit out on my room’s balcony, looking out at the night sky. I’m still pretty awake, so I get on my laptop and update my blog diary, check my social medias again, and by the time that’s all done, I’m actually pretty tired. I take a shower to finally freshen up after traveling, braid my hair so it’s cute and wavy for tomorrow, and head to bed.

I was 7 and kissed a boy in my class behind the bushes at recess in a display of young compulsory heterosexuality. He dumped me at a classmate’s birthday party a week later and I never looked at boys again lol

3: Talk aboutthe person you’ve had the most intense romantic feelings for.

This girl I met in my freshman year of college and fell hard and fast for. She clearly didn’t feel the same for me and very unceremoniously dumped me without much of an explanation, it sucked!

4: Talk aboutthe thing you regret most so far.

That I didn’t break contact with my biological father much earlier than I did, his presence in my life made me feel like shit for way longer than I deserved and now that he’s out of my life I feel a lot better!

l’m not actually much of a fan of birthdays and much prefer Christmas, never really liked the idea of growing up…But I guess my tenth birthday was cool. It was nice to turn a two digit number for the first time and the pajama party I had that year was pretty sweet!

Well my fourth birthday sucked, it was my first birthday after my parents got divorced and I was worried my dad wouldn’t show up for the party and well…He didn’t……………….Yeah that sucked!

I have many, many insecurities of different natures and can honestly not really narrow it down to one big one.

I’m proud of unapologetically being who I am despite breaking norms and societal expectations in more ways than one; as well as for standing up for others like me!

I rarely remember my dreams, but since I started taking sleeping pills I’ve had some really vivid and scary ones, nothing I feel like reliving by sharing though.

The best vacation I’ve ever been on was the one I got from my parents as a graduation gift. They accompanied me to Amsterdam (which is a beautiful, beautiful city) to see Taylor Swift live on the 1989 World Tour! It was one of the best trips/concerts of my life and I really look forward to seeing Tay again in 180 days!

Probably in my last year of middle school, when I was like 15. It was the last year before I developed mental illness and fell into this dark, dark hole…Wow, that sounds depressing af! Sorry for being such a bummer!

I don’t really do parties, I prefer to hang out with my friends casually and just play video games and cook/have dinner together or whatever. We’ve had many awesome hangouts like these over the years and I can’t really pick a specific one as the best one!

I got dumped at that birthday party, lol…No but really I don’t remember much of elementary school, except that one time a bitch stole my tamagotchi, that wasn’t cool Sally, so not cool!

My teacher surprised me by sneaking me into another school’s library so that I could join this class of strangers in meeting one of my favorite authors at the time and get my books signed as well as give her a book i’d written and exchange email addresses with her. I came out of the closet, that was pretty damn dope too!

During my freshman year of college (wow, a lot sure did happen that year, huh?) this guy in my class basically started stalking me and obsess over me despite me repeatedly telling him I’m gay and wasn’t interested. It got pretty badly out of hand and it ended with the school suspending him after me having complained to the student council after he failed to recognize my rejections for what they were, FUCKING REJECTIONS!!!

i’m TERRIFIED of failure in any and all forms! Don’t wanna talk about it though, it’ll probably trigger unnecessary anxiety…

I’m too shy to ask people out so I have never really been turned down in that sense, have been dumped tho, that’s………..unfun!

During elementary and middle school I was best friends with this guy i’d known since kindergarten, we drifted apart since we went to different high schools and haven’t really hung out since sophomore year which is too bad really because we were like siblings at one point and I’d like to have that back someday.

I try to drink a lot of tea and stay as comfortable as possible while watching something that makes me happy and distracts me from feeling badly. Like Buffy, Brooklyn 99 or F.r.i.e.n.d.s

32: Talk abouta place you remember from your childhood.

When I was younger my grandparents lived in this big, yellow house in the countryside and I remember it as this bright, warm and very positive place! It was surrounded by a large, dark forest that my grandma used to call The Forest of Fairy Tales” and in their huge garden they had an abundance of sweet berries and I had a legit fort my grandpa had built for me at the edge of the forest. I really miss that place, almost as much as I miss my grandma!

33: Talk aboutwhat you do when you are sad.

Pretty much the same thing I do when I’m sick, I try to drink gallons of tea, stay comfy and watch something lighthearted and uplifting. Listening to Taylor Swift also helps me a lot if I feel down. The sound of her voice makes me feel at home and reminds me that things are gonna be okay, ya feel?

34: Talk aboutthe worst physical pain you’ve endured.

As a kid with cerebral palsy I pretty much grew up in hospitals and was subject to a lot of pretty painful stuff before I even turned ten, as a result my pain threshold is very high. Despite this I can’t really say breaking my wrist in a biking accident at about nine didn’t suck.

35: Talk aboutthings you wish you could stop doing.

I wish I could stop clinging to some of the more unhealthy coping mechanisms I have when it comes to my mental illness…Like I wish I’d stop starving myself and make myself sleep deprived on purpose and stuff…That’s not really healthy and I wish I didn’t cling to these things and instead could find healthier ways to deal with bad mental health situations. I’m working on this though!

36: Talk aboutyour guilty pleasures.

I don’t believe in guilt associated with interests of any kind. If I like something I like it, plain and simple!

37: Talk aboutsomeone you thought you were in love with.

This boy that sat next to me in my eighth grade math class, he was super nice and we were friends. Secretly though I was like OBSESSED with him, it was actually kinda cute. Sadly for 14 year old me I was too shy to ask him out though, which was just as well since it was clearly compulsory again and I was really crushing super hard on the cool punk girl in my social studies class who I just thought i really, really, REALLY wanted to be friends with at the time…I was too shy to talk to her too though sooo

39: Talk aboutthings you wish you’d known earlier.

That it’s okay to be both disabled and queer, the belief that you couldn’t caused me to stay in the closet (even to myself) for far longer than I needed to. you’re not “too much” just because you happen to be part of several minority groups, never forget that, kids!

40: Talk aboutthe end of something in your life.

When I was 13 I finally broke contact with my biological father and that was the end of a cycle of mental and psychological abuse. It was one of the best decision I’ve ever made and the most cathartic ending to any period in my life so far.

Season 7 is coming to an end and I have a few thoughts about it.

Gane of thrones is a great show no doubt about it, but there are certain things that have happened in past two seasons that have kinda annoyed me.

*Spoiler* warning even though, I don’t really think it includes spoilers (you never know ;))

1. Rhaegar Targaryen, Lyanna Stark and Elia Martell.

Alright, this is a big one. Lemme get this straight.

PEOPLE NEED TO STOP ROMANTICISING RHAEGAR AND LYANNA.

Rhaegar Targaryen was a nut job. He wanted three heads of a dragon so since his wife could no longer give birth, he smoothly kidnapped a younger girl. Not only did he marry her he practically disowned his children.(when a marriage is annulled, the children become bastards) HIS OWN DAMN CHILDREN. Like Lyanna is oh so high and might as well right?

I used to really like Lyanna maybe because in the books she was compared to Arya, but had she been like Arya, she wouldn’t have allowed it. The Starks have honour, Lyanna didn’t. But I can’t really blame her, when a prince promises you the world at such an young age. You can’t help it. (Yes. Lyanna was sixteen)

And as of Elia Martell, I love her charecter. She deserved so much better. I was hoping she’d find someone else as well. It would have made more sense.

2. Dorne

Let’s admit it, when Oberyn made an appearance in season 4 he was the best and made Dorne seem like a perfect place. And if you look into it, Dorne is actually a pretty cool place to be. They are witty, diverse(salty, stony and sandy dornishmen) and open-minded and they know how to have fun (wink wink) while they also have one of the best warriors.

But through out the series (books+shows) Dorne has become Westros’ official punching bag. In the show, house Martell is practically extinct and other dornish houses are okay with it?!

Major Charecters of Dorne namely Oberyn, Elia, Arthur, Ashara have been through shit and have all died a very sad death.

And also the storyline of Dorne. What the fuck were the writers thinking. Not only did they turn Dorne into a shitty place, they completely removed charecters like Arianne and ruined the development arc of Jaime and Bronn along the way It should be -

Also what about Ellaria? Is she dead? what happens to Dorne next?

3. The Incest.

Incest is wrong. Period.

And GRRM proved it clearly. It was incest that caused the War of Five Kings, had Jaime and Cersei not been caught doing the deed. None of this shit would’ve gone down. Had Jaime and Cersei not banged, Jon Arryn would still be alive and this shithead Joffery wouldn’t have been born.

Similar with the Targaryens, it is obvious that it was the incestuous interbreeding that had caused them to become mad Aerys and Viserys. Rhaegar in my opinion was a mad man as well, he wasn’t hyper but he was obsessed with prophecies that would eventually lead to madness later in his life if he’d survived.

So now that we have this cleared.

It’s still Incest!

And please what’s with these ship wars? Has GoT become the a vampire diaries now?

GoT was never about “romance” it was about power play, manipulation and complex relationships between conflicted characters. And now I feel like the show runners are trying to shove down JonxDany down our throats. I always knew that when Jon and Dany would meet they would have a connection.

A platonic one. Which would make them respect each other and acknowledge the hardships they have been through. But no they got to fall in love, have sex on a boat and make magic babies yay!

No. It’s not supposed to be like that. It’s to obvious and too cliché. Jon and Dany have clashing personalities, even if they got together they wouldn’t last.

For jaime and cersei, it was always cersei who had been dominant and manipulative while Jaime had been the psychologically submissive one. That’s why it worked. But I don’t support them either and I will never support Jon and Dany, yet it may be an honest mistake since they don’t know about their ties as a family. But. That should be the show runner’s responsibility, on how they should write the characters.

3. The Lannisters

Jaime has always been my favourite character, so I had to express my concerns related to him.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO HIS REDEMPTION ARC?!

Why is he still with his sister, why hasn’t someone knocked sense into him, geez. Now, Tyrion Lannister. This guy seriously needs to standup against the shit that Dany is doing. Yeah don’t give me that ‘but it’s war’ crap. Ik that it’s war, but killing people just so that they accept u as your queen is just dumb. Like Tywin Lannister had said, the person who constantly establishes the fact that they are king/queen aren’t actually true rulers. And what’s with that reunion scene with him and Jaime. It was so bad, where was the angst! I mean they were so close. Oh right. Developed family relationships are not relevant anymore! Let’s add some more of that JonxDany instead. Let’s get the fangirls alll riled up. Cersei Lannister. She’s mad. Yes she’s as mad as Dany. Yes she is way more cruel. But both of them are ‘mad’ for the throne and to rise above others to rule them. Both of them have different ways of execution but their goal is the same. The pregnancy was unnecessary. And I bet she’s not going to have the baby. I have nothing else to say about Cersei. She and Qyburn make the evilest pair in westeros.

4. Azor Ahai

The prince who was promised, saviour of the realm yada yada yada. The story of Azor Ahai is pretty interesting and it is something I really want to see on the show, but at the rate at which they are shoving Jon and Dany heroism down our throats, I feel like the Azor Ahai is going to be either one of them(and if it’s not then I’ll be the happiest person in this world) because fan service has become a thing.

5. Please don’t make everyone a friggin Targaryen

Please. Just. No Two targs is all I can handle. With the theory of Tyrion being a Targaryen, it’s really annoying me. What’s so special about being a Targaryen? I hope Tyrion remains a Lannister as probably both Jaime and Cersei will die and I don’t want that house to go extinct. Tbh. I was disappointed when I got to know that Jon is a Targaryen. I was hoping that maybe just maybe he was Ashara’s kid and that’s why he’d been soo good at swordfighting but nuuuuu *insert valley girl voice* Targaryens super cool you know so we’re gonna make him one as well hahahaha.

6. Brandon Stark WTF man

Remember Bran Stark that cute kid who was pushed out of a tower by this evil blonde knight. Well it seems like he’s become a COMPLETE JERK I was so disappointed with this conversations with Meera (whom I love. Yes, I go gay for her). I mean Meera deserved so much more than that damn thank you, ugh!

7. Sansa

You go gurl *sobs happily*

So this was my rant. I have been holding back for SOOO long now here it is. Every character is well written. No hate on any of them (except you, Mary Sue, Daenerys Targaryen)

So, as we all know, the X-men franchise in the movies has had a lot of ups and downs. A lot of ups and some downs, it really depends on how you look at it. One day I’ll watch all of them and review them (I’ve reviewed X-men: Apocalypse) but for the most part, I have liked the cast chosen to play these iconic characters.

So, when I started this post, it was last year lol and the merger between Fox and Disney wasn’t confirmed. Now that it is, I really wanted to put this out with my ideas of their casting. I think as X-men is such a large group of people that they should definitely consider really exploring the multiverse because an entire group of mutants we never knew about? I mean obviously because they didn’t exist in MCU but still lol. Also, with them now being part of the MCU, they could kind of retcon what they’ve done with Wanda and Pietro’s origins. But after Doctor Strange’s sequel, perhaps they really should do the multiverse, if Wanda breaks a hole through the universe… I mean it would be awesome. Gives the opportunity for way more heroes and villains.

Complete Restart

In my mind, when they restart, they have to restart completely. Don’t get me wrong, I looove a lot of the cast from the other movies, the older movies and the newer ones. But unfortunately, I’d only pull a few of them to come over to the MCU. Not many though. In the comics, the first group of X-men was: Scott Summers/Cyclops, Jean Grey/Marvel Girl, Hank McCoy/Beast, Bobby Drake/Iceman, and Warren Worthington III/Angel.

I think that since we haven’t seen this particular group together, it would be nice to see them to pay homage to the comics, since they were the first X-men. They can introduce Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Thunderbird and some others but I’m not going to cast everyone though.

I think in the first movie, it should be the original group or at least people we haven’t seen a lot of. So, that means NO Logan/Wolverine and NO Mystique. As much as I enjoy Logan, he’s never been my favorite X-men. Hugh Jackman really owned that character which helped me like him more. As for Mystique, Rebecca Romjin’s version was awesome and Jennifer Lawrence’s started off fine but she irritated me later. So definitely don’t need her for a while. I would even argue, we don’t need to Magneto for a little while either. I mean, he could be a looming presence but we don’t have to see him.

Sooo you’re here for my casting choices so let’s get to it! You don’t have to read anything clearly, you can just skip through the pictures. It’ll hurt my feelings but that’s okay. Oh and get used to me mentioning X-men: Evolution because I was really into that show and while I am aware of the comic book storylines, that is most of what I remember lol.

My Casting!

I’m going to cast a younger version and an older version. It just depends on where the MCU wants to start out the X-men, as teenagers/young adults or a hero whose been doing this for at least a decade and a half or something lol.

The Uncanny X-Men

Scott Summers/Cyclops.

He is the leader of the X-men and we need to see that! We have not seen that yet and it kills me. Scott is brave, self-less, a master tactician and first-rate leader. I know he isn’t very popular with fans lol, which is fine but we haven’t had the chance to see him lead and grow in the movies and this could be that chance. He’s a leader, he’s no-nonsense and serious, dedicated and perhaps a bit of “Boy Scout” in the beginning. He can often hold a low opinion of himself and obsess over his shortcomings and failures. Socially, he has described himself as an introvert. As a leader, he is very strict and no-nonsense, demanding seriousness, dedication and skill, usually earning him the dislike of more rebellious team members. Scott also has a plethora of mental issues, bottling up his emotions and refusing to confront his issues, despite this affecting him adversely.

In the movies: James Marsden and Tye Sheridan

I really liked Tye Sheridan as Scott in X-men: Apocalypse. I don’t think they allowed him to really be the Scott that is the leader. He didn’t have much to do in Dark Phoenix other than worry about Jean lol but he wasn’t bad. James Marsden didn’t get that chance either. I’ve always liked Scott fine and he should be able to be the leader like he’s supposed to be. Of course, Tye Sheridan played him like a cool dude in his first outing and I didn’t mind that but it would also be nice to see him as the introvert he comes off as in earlier iterations. Marsden was just there unfortunately, a little smug sometimes but just there. I wouldn’t mind having Sheridan back but I think I have some better choices. FUN FACT: Kirby Morrow who voice Scott in X-men: Evolution also plays Miroku in Inuyasha. 😀

Young Scott: Graham Phillips Adult Scott: Armie Hammer

Younger: Sooo I was going to choose Nick Robinson for my younger Scott because I really like him, but Graham Phillips‘ face popped in my head. Last I saw him was in Riverdale, which I know doesn’t say much, but he played a “villainous” character and it didn’t quite work for him. Perhaps a boy scout character would work instead. He has an earnest face, I think. I know Scott has blue eyes which you don’t see most of the time, but if it is an origin story, it would be nice to flash Graham’s lovely blue eyes. But I think not only would he rock the glasses but those goggles he’d have to wear. He would be able to portray that introverted, loner personality that Scott has while also doing the “learning how to lead” aspect which would turn him confident while he’s Cyclops. Besides, Graham can come off a little awkward and it would work for Scott, make him very endearing. I think Graham could walk that fine line of being endearing and being annoying which how people view Scott anyway.

Older: I love Armie Hammer and I think he’s a great actor. I’ve seen him in many films and he can do action, especially the serious kind, if you’ve seen A Man From Uncle, regardless of your thoughts on the movie, he did a great job. Not only does he have the right physique (being tall and strong lol), but his deep voice would be a little shocking for someone who would come off so quiet. I think Armie could handle the “Boy Scout” personality of Scott, while also being an already commanding leader! Plus, Armie Hammer can skew a little older, so while he’s 32, he can present a few years older.

Jean Grey/Marvel Girl/Phoenix

So, Jean, has a lot of positive attributes, she’s loving and she loves everyone, especially those who mean a lot to her. She is very optimistic, even with the negative things. She’s very self-sacrificing. Jean has a very determined and stubborn personality, I would consider her a second-in-command type, even a leader when it’s needed because she doesn’t take carp from anyone and doesn’t know how to stay down. Of course, everyone has a wild side and Jean has that. Plus, her powers are awesome and she’s extremely powerful. I would like to see the full extent of her powers, without the Phoenix stuff, really shown on screen.

In the Movies: Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner

So, this role they kept jumping the gun with trying to get to her phoenix stuff, which hasn’t really worked out the way it might have. Janssen was fine, she was probably the best in the Cyclops, Jean, Storm group (not counting Logan). If the writing for her was handled better then I’m sure it would have been great! I also didn’t mind Sophie Turner. She did a great job in Dark Phoenixand I wouldn’t mind casting her again but I think since we’re getting new X-men I think Jean should have a fresh start as well.

Young Jean: Zoey Deutch Adult Jean: Bridget Regan

Younger: There are a lot of choices of Jean, especially for redhead ladies, or those who can pull it off. But I chose Zoey Deutch as I was looking at young actresses and I decided on her because I like her, she’s a good actress and she can go many ways. She can skew older or younger, make her hair a bit redder and depending on the way they decide to go with Jean, she could play it. She can definitely do the vulnerable, selfless, loving and determined personality because I’ve seen her do it and she always remains likable to me. Plus, she just hasn’t seem to be someone that people know that much and I think portraying a younger Jean, it would do that for her. I think down the line, if they do the Phoenix bit, she could handle that really well without it coming off super whiny or super crazy.

Older: So, Bridget Regan. always comes up randomly when I’m fan casting and most times when she comes up, I can’t forget her lol. I think she could do an awesome Jean Grey! I remember her from this fantasy-esque TV show (Legend of the Seeker) from some years ago and she was great. Her character would be similar to Jean just a bit softer…? lol just make her hair redder of course and I think she could handle all of the emotions and characterizations Jean goes through. If they did the Phoenix thing with an “older” Jean, she could handle it.

Honorable Mention (Older): Alexandra Daddario, Evan Rachel Wood, Holland Roden

Hank McCoy/Beast

Hank is a mutant who struggle for the acceptance due to his appearance. He is an extremely smart man. A “renaissance man” who excelled in arts, letters and the sciences. Hank wrestles with demons of loneliness and rejection but he also has a lot of wit and can be a prankster. Hank is SMART but he is very loved by those around him and he loves his people hard as well. I really really love the friendship between Hank and Ororo and I want to showcase that in future films.

In the movies: Kelsey Grammar and Nicholas Hoult

So, in the first set of X-men films, Kelsey Grammar shows up in X-men: The Last Stand, and honestly, he was perfect. I mean, he had everything that I remember Beast being in X-men: Evolution. Nicholas Hoult had a much longer outing as Hank and I liked him mostly, he could get a little annoying but he was a good friend to Charles, loyal and of course had his little romance with Mystique. I think though that Grammer’s look as the blue Beast was much better than Hoult’s because I hate every single one of Hoult’s look as Beast. Just really bad.

Young Hank: Daniel Radcliffe Adult Hank: Oscar Isaac

Younger: I thought about a lot of options for a younger Hank McCoy and I went through a few people but I really like Daniel Radcliffe for the role. For one, I think he could embody everything Beast does. He can even maintain his British accent honestly. But I think he could handle all of his emotional ups and downs and plus, the Beast makeup, whether it’s prosthetic or motion capture, I think he could wear it well. He has very expressive eyes and he would really be able to push past the makeup or the motion capture. Plus, Hank can be very funny, a bit of a prankster and Radcliffe is awkwardly funny and very likable and very endearing and he’d fit right into my group for the younger X-men. I think he’d come off as the “older” one, which is fine, it works for him and this group.

Older: I found Oscar Isaac is the best choice for the role because I looooove him first of all and I think he would kill this role. He is such a chameleon and if they do right by him this time compared to that outing as Apocalypse, he would wear the costume instead of it wearing him. He would be able to handle all of the emotions that Hank goes through with how he looks and then if they do the thing with his love. Plus, the really smart demeanor he has, while also freaking out and being animalistic, Oscar Isaac can do all that. He’d be so great at it. Man!

Honorable Mentions (Older): Joel Egerton, Jason Clarke

Bobby Drake/Iceman

Since I’m showcasing the original group of X-men first, it’s important to show that Bobby was considered the “class clown” often making jokes and clearly the youngest of the group. The others may not appreciate him often but he would become really close to Hank, due to Hank and him connecting through pranks. At first when Bobby is turning to Iceman, he had a snow like exterior, but with the help of Cyclops he learned to increase the temperature and turn to the icy form we all know. It would be nice to see him be the most reckless with his powers, meaning he not knowing how to control it and having to learn from the others because he’s probably struggling a bit more with his powers. They always show Jean struggling which is fine but let’s have someone else who doesn’t quite have a handle on their powers either.

In the movies: Shawn Ashmore is the only version of Bobby we see in the films and he’s fine. I mean his character grows as the movies continue but not by that much, at least not that’s interesting. He’s mostly known as being Rogue’s boyfriend lol. He does some cool things, like when he finally turns fully Iceman in The Last Stand while fighting Pyro but that’s about it lol. Shawn Ashmore was fine in the role, he’s likable and cute and the boy next door and I guess that’s all that’s needed.

Young Bobby: Brandon Flynn Adult Bobby: Matt Bomer

Younger: Brandon Flynn is from 13 Reasons Why and he was fantastic in that, particularly in the first season and I think he’d be great for this role. I know that in recent times, Bobby has been confirmed part of the LGBT community and Brandon is as well, so it would be nice to have that reflected in Bobby’s character in the films. But outside of that, he has a great smile, so he would be able to enchant anyone, because as soon as he smiled in 13RW I was like O.O. Plus he seems to have a lighthearted energy while also coming off innocent in ways which I think works really well for Bobby. He’d have great chemistry with my pick for Hank as they should become really close friends in the group and Bobby would be able to have someone he could lean on.

Older: MATT BOMER needs to be put into everything because he’s gorgeous, talented and he’s great! That is all.

Warren Worthington III/Angel

Warren Worthington has a very interesting and sad life to be honest. His feathered wings began to grow from his shoulder blades while at school. At first, he thinks he’s a freak but when he learns he can fly and help people he does, particularly during a fire in his dorm. He gets recruited by Charles later. He does come off as a wealthy playboy and very outspoken, and hates being told what to do, which makes him the cause of tension in the group, particularly with Scott who is the leader, and who is also different from Warren in personality. Apparently, he also is in love with Jean for a long time. Then of course there’s a lot of stuff that happens when he dies, or when his wings get stolen and he gets the metal wings… I mean he has a lot to pull from. But I would like to see a younger Warren with this whole personality of being a playboy and then all the emotional stuff.

In the movies: Ben Foster and Ben Hardy. Honestly, both choices were good choices for the role. I think Ben Foster’s characterization was probably a bit closer to what’s known about Warren’s character but he was so underwritten and underused that it was painful. He was so good. His character was so sympathetic and emotional that his first scene as a kid, was emotional, I might have teared up a little and then his next scene as an adult was also really great. As for Ben Hardy, his Warren was a bit random in his introduction, I still want to know what he was doing in that cage fight. Was he kidnapped like Kurt? I still want to know lol. But he was extremely underused and underwritten and then he dies lol. I mean really?

Young Warren: Austin Butler Adult Warren: Dan Stevens

Younger: Austin Butler is great! Karina brought him up and I was like “Omg yes!” He’s one of the actors I will put in everything! lol but Austin has this ability to be both earnest and lovable but smug and a little douchey at the same time. He has that look and I think he would be able to walk that line for Warren. Plus, he has gorgeous blonde locks, especially if he grows it out long again. Plus, I can see right now, him going back and forth with Graham Phillips as Scott because, I think he’s taller, a little cooler and he would wear that on sleeve. I also think he’d a very emotional, heart on his sleeve, person and Austin is good at that. His eyes are very expressive.

Older: Dan Stevensis about 36 right now and I know he’s on that show Legion, as a mutant, which is fine, but I don’t think those shows count in the MCU but he has that pompous look that Warren has being a rich kid, but he also has an earnestness too. Just like Austin, he can walk that fine line of what Warren needs to be and it could come off either way. I think Dan Stevens also is pretty funny and I can imagine him and Armie Hammer going back and forth too.

So, the people I have chosen for the original X-men team, I think are strong contenders in both the young and older casting.

New Recruits

Ororo Munroe/Storm

First of all, Ororo is awesome and has an awesome backstory. She comes from a tribe of women, African priestesses, who all have white hair, blue eyes and can potentially wield magic. Her parents were killed when a plane crashed into their home, she was buried under rubble which caused claustrophobia. She was found by a gang of street urchins who took her to theOir master and she was trained in the art of thievery. She was really good at it and one day tried to pick Charles Xavier’s pockets but it didn’t go so well lol. He used his abilities to stop her. There is also a ton of other things that happen which is dope but it’s a lot to share, but she ends up joining the X-men years later when Charles had no choice but contact her when his original group was in danger. He explained to her that she was a mutant, not a Goddess, though she’ll always be a GODDESS lol.

In the movies: Halle Berry and Alexandria Shipp

I didn’t like either one of these casting choices. I don’t find Halle Berry that consistently good of an actress and Storm has always been one of my favorite superheroes/X-men and I will never forgive her, Brian Singer or the writing team in those earlier movies. She was a little better in The Last Stand but that movie was so not good lol I can’t even think of her being good. She didn’t have any of the regality or strength that Ororo has and I’m sure it was a mixture of everyone not knowing how to write her character. Besides, she was always a background character which is also ridiculous. Alexandria Shipp already had us worried because of her portrayal of Aaliyah which also has to do with writing, direction and acting. Also, it sucks that neither of these actresses could handle the African accent, they tried but then Halle Berry stopped having one going forward and Alexandria Shipp was okay but she hardly talked. I mean, either way, she was just there. I also hated the fact they wanted Mystique to be such an inspiration to Storm… for why? Stupid. UGH! UGH! *sighs* let me bring it back.

Young Ororo: Kiki Layne Adult Ororo: Sonequa Martin-Green

Younger: I haven’t seen If Beale Street Could Talk yet to comment on Kiki Layne’s acting ability but I think her look is perfect for Ororo. I mean, obviously it would be nice if they found an African actress, but I’m pulling from who I am aware of. She is tall and statuesque, with beautiful brown skin and I think she could at least handle all of the strength that comes from Storm, especially when it comes to using her powers, which IS MORE THAN HARNESSING LIGHTENING. I want to see her fly, I want to see her affect the weather, I want to see her lose her temper where she affects the weather but then learns she needs to leave the atmosphere to do it. I want all of it.

Older: I’ve had Sonequa Martin-Green as Storm for so long lol. I’ve been sitting on her casting for a while, I think I started this piece like earlier this year or last year lol. She’s not that much older than Kiki Layne but she has a more mature look to her, so while Kiki can pull off the younger Ororo, Sonequa could do a Storm whose been hereoing it up for some years. So, I want all that I said for young Storm, just in adult Storm lol.

Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler

There is a TON about his backstory but I’m not going to go into it because it’s sooo much. Kurt has always been my favorite X-men so I’ve liked both iterations of him we’ve seen. Now, I think an interesting thing that they haven’t done is show that he has fur. His skin isn’t blue, his body is coated in blue fur which I’ve always thought was cute, especially since Wolverine calls him “fuzzball” and what not lol. Kurt has tragedy in his background. Of course, there’s the whole thing with Mystique being his mother, so I definitely want them to talk about that. It should be a thing instead of this vague nonsense they kept doing. He ended up in the circus and during shows, the ringmaster who did not like him, kept him heavily sedated the entire time. I also believe he was a bit abusive. That helped shape Kurt into the religious man he turned into. Let’s get into all of that.

In the movies: Alan Cummings and Kodi Smit-McPhee who played Kurt in X-men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix and he was literally my favorite casting of the newer movies. Kurt is my favorite X-men and it always sucks that they bring him into the movie and he’s underused! In both movies he was underused! I hate the fact that he just randomly shows up during the cage fight and I want to know HOW THEY CAUGHT HIM because he was just there and his final fight with Angel was so lackluster, which should have been great considering how they set it up. He had a bit more to do in Dark Phoenix but not that much. But HE IS SO GOOD as Kurt, so likable and sweet and I think it would be crazy to not keep him. He’s the only actor I would really keep from those characters. They should just give him so much more to work with. They don’t have to keep the markings on his face, which is such a big part of the Fox version of Nightcrawler but it’s not necessary. As for Alan Cumming, he was fantastic for the first outing of the character. His first scene is literally the best scene in the X-men movies, fight me.

Young Kurt: Kofi Smit-McPhee or Timothee Chalamet Adult Kurt: Matthew Goode

Younger: Kodi Smit-McPhee played Kurt in X-men: Apocalypseand Dark Phoenix and he was literally my favorite casting of the newer movies. I really liked Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt. I thought he did a great job with the character, with his naivety, but his fierceness, his humor and he just embodied for me, what I’ve always loved about the character. Plus, he looked really good in the makeup for the character. I could also see his Kurt growing up into the Kurt we saw in X2. It flowed well enough for me. I liked that he was kind, because Kurt is and always has been but I also like when his survival instincts kicked in and he fought. I thought Kodi did a really good job, probably made me love Kurt even more.

Timothee Chalamet has been my other choice for Kurt if Kodi wasn’t brought back in. I really want to see him do something against type. Something he hasn’t done yet and I think this would be a great role to try out for him. I think all of the emotional stakes that Kurt has to go through he would absolutely KILL it, but I would also like to see him bring his goofy personality that I see in interviews and what not, to Kurt’s goofy personality. He seems to do well with languages, I’m not sure about accents but I’m sure he could do a German accent and I think he’d look good in the blue look for Kurt. I don’t like the idea of Kurt being full CGI because I don’t think it’s necessary, they just need to make sure whatever design they give him, works and isn’t painful. I would love to see him play in an action movie BUT Kurt is also a tragic, sensitive and emotional figure that it’s right up Timothee’s alley. Omg, I can see him doing this right now.

Older: I’ve seen Matthew Goode in a couple of things and he’s a really good actor. I chose him really because his physicality and I think he would look great! But he also has this mysterious look to him that could go either way. I think he could do a good job.

Anna Marie/Rogue

She has powers that will take other people’s life-force and their powers if they’re mutants. That is all.

In the movies: Anna Paquin was a hit or miss most of the time. The emotional moments she did well but Rogue was never the sassy and strong vixen she normally is. Of course, a lot of my knowledge is from the animated show (not the 1992 one) where she was in the “goth” phase and very Southern lol. They can do that or just go off of what she’s normally shown like in the picture above. Anyway, lol Paquin was too whiny as Rogue and we never really got to see her use her powers, she was always scared of them or whined about them. Let’s see her fight Carol and steal her powers so she can fly and be strong and stuff! lol

Young Rogue: Sofia Carson Adult Rogue Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Younger: I almost went with one of the last two of my honorable mentions but then Sofia Carson popped into my mind. I really like her. She has an interesting voice which I think would work for Rogue. I’m not sure how Southern she sounds, or if she can do a Southern accent but I think she would be able to embody all of Rogue’s feistiness, strength, and sensuality.

Older: Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a great choice for Rogue! I think she would be able to handle her Southern accent and keep that same personality and airs that Rogue has. I know she’s slated to play Huntress in this Birds of Preymovie, but let’s just forget about that and get her to play Rogue, if they go with more seasoned heroes.

Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat

I was always more familiar with her from X-Men: Evolution where she was an upbeat, sunny girl who was pretty much popular and liked by everyone because of her open personality. I really want to see a strong friendship between her and Kurt as that was one of my favorite aspects of the animated show and I know it was also part of the comics as well. Plus, if we do get a Wolverine, I definitely want the friendship we get with Kitty and Logan, along with Logan and Kurt AND Kurt, Kitty and Logan.

In the movies: Ellen Page was fine in her outings as Kitty. I was mostly familiar with X-men: Evolution’s Kitty who was super girly and kind of a valley girl so Ellen Page who wasn’t like that was kind of weird for me lol. But she was fine and likable enough, I just didn’t like the whole Bobby/Kitty thing. I don’t know, we didn’t really get the chance to spend much time with her.

Young Kitty: Sophia Lillis or Millie Bobbie Brown Adult Kitty: Emmy Rossum

Younger: So, I have two choices for a young Kitty. I think Millie Bobbie Brown is an obvious choice but I think she’d do well in the role no matter which kind of personality they decide to give her. I do think she should be a bit more upbeat, like a typical teenager instead of all these sullen, brooding teens lol. MBB seems to have that kind of personality in real life. As for Sophia Lillis, I really like her and I think she would be an interesting choice for Kitty. She would make Kitty a bit more relatable and sassier and I like that about her, besides she’s a little older than MBB. Either choice I think would work out just fine. Besides, I think both of them would be able to have a great rapport with either of my choices for Kurt, as they are older than both SL and MBB, it would hopefully come off more sibling like. Otherwise, I’d age up Kitty’s actress with casting one of my honorable mentions.

Older: Emmy Rossum is an amazing actress and as soon as I saw her photo when I was looking at brunette actresses, I was like BAM that’s Kitty. I think she would maintain that bright personality that Kitty has but also be a bit “harder” because I would think she’s experienced and been through a lot. Plus, I think she would fit into my choices of the older X-men really well and have good besties chemistry with Matthew Goode as Kurt.

Remy LeBeau/Gambit

He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Remy’s bio-kinetic charging abilities manifested early in his teens, although he kept his powers secret from his family and friends, practicing his powers away from prying eyes. Remy discovered his signature attack when he picked up a playing card that Etienne had dropped, charged it, and threw it in the Pig’s face, taking out his eye. He’s had a lot of adventures, he’s really interesting lol and we need to see more of him, I definitely would like to, especially see his relationship with Rogue. My picks for the older version of Gambit and Rogue would be soooo great together! Plus, he just looks really cool. Let this Channing Tatum nonsense GO!

In the movies: Taylor Kitsch was honestly fine in his role; it was a bad movie and bad writing. I thought he did well and I wouldn’t mind having him back.

Adult Remy: Garrett Hedlund

I thought about doing the young/older for Remy but I couldn’t think of anyone I liked as a young Remy, so I’m just casting an adult one. The younger one might have to be an unknown. If they go with the younger X-men he shouldn’t really show up that soon anyway. But I think Garrett Hedlund would be perfect, he’s tall, handsome, likable and he normally has the hair that Remy sports and he has this charm to him that I think would snare anyone. Now, I don’t particularly know how good his accent would be but I’m sure he’d be fine. I’ve liked him in every role I’ve seen him play for the most part, so Garrett for the win!

People have brought him up for Miles Morales and I disagree on that. So, if they bring in Spyke mostly from X-men: Evolution, Caleb should play him. He doesn’t have to quite have this look but still lol.

Lana Condor as Jubilation Lee/ Jubilee

She was so wasted… so bring her back.

Returning Players

These are the characters we’ve seen many times. I didn’t want to quite include them in the detailed bits above but I’ll have everyone here except for Wolverine. I don’t have anyone I really want to see play that role right now.

Ralph Fiennes as Charles Xavier/Professor X

I actually couldn’t think of anyone else once I saw a picture of Ralph Fiennes. I think he’d be a great mentor to either of my groups of X-men. He has a stern face but he also knows how to soften it when necessary. Plus, I can see him going toe to toe with Jason Isaacs in a battle of wits.

Jason Isaacs as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto

He’d be great and you know it! Both McKellen and Fassy were great as Erik but neither one of them intimidated me. I want a Magneto who would intimidate me even when he’s not on screen. I never quite felt the threat from the other two. They were great but I think Jason Isaacs would really be able to sink his hooks (hehehe). I mean this dude intimidated me as Captain Hook lol. I think he’d look great in the classic Magneto suit and go toe to toe with my Charles.

Charlize Theron as Raven Darkholme/Mystique

I don’t think they should do the scales thing again. It was cool when you first see it with Rebecca Romjin, but they should stick to her comic look. Blue skin, red flowy hair, yellow eyes and then of course clothes lol. She often wears that white outfit; she can wear that as her default but she can literally change clothes at the drop of a hate. Just no scales.

So, these are my choices for how the MCU should cast their X-men. I didn’t of course go into sooo much detail about other characters, nor did I cast everyone, or even people we meet along the way, like Colossus and Banshee etc. I think this first group I’ve chosen would be a good group to start out with because then we get to see people get development we haven’t seen like Scott, Warren, and Bobby. Hank and Jean has gotten it in the past, but I’m hoping for a different kind of development lol. I’d also hope that the additional characters like Ororo, Kurt, Rogue and Kitty would be put to much better use.

So, I generally have a really good alcohol tolerance and a cast iron stomach (not necessarily for good reasons, but hey), but I did once go to a party that ended very badly. I was about 17, had recently been diagnosed with CFS, and was on a heavy painkiller regimen. I drank when I shouldn’t really have done so, because bullshit and All the Emotional Drama, BUT… I did not know that my friend’s asshole brother had spiked my drink. (He was a peach. Gave his 14 year old brother acid once just to point and laugh at the result. Fuckin’ hated that guy.)

At some point in the evening – somewhere after the sham marriages, interpretative dance, and someone putting someone else through a table, because teen parties – I realised I was wayyy more wasted than I should have been, despite the painkillers, and I ended up spending all night hallucinating and throwing up, plus feeling horrific for about three days afterwards.

Moral of the story: if you spike people’s drinks, you are a gigantic bag of toe lint and should suffer mosquito bites on your asshole for a thousand years. The end.

I have no real interest in keeping up with more than 80% of the people I’m related to, and I never liked my birth name, plus this is easier to spell and dictate to people, and isn’t known by the abusive assholes in my life. So, yay! 25. What did you do for your last birthday: Ordered pizza and watched favourite movies with my partner. We did The Blues Brothers and shit-talked the progression of police militarisation in the US over the past 30 years, and it was incredibly fun, despite the fact we’re 3000 miles apart right now. Most of my scars have faded, but I still have some weird idiosyncrasies from things that have been broken or busted up. 37. Childhood dream: Writing was always my main thing, but also acting/directing. Illness took that away. Other than that, I always wanted to live somewhere rural with lots of animals, and be happy. 39. FWIW, I considered whether or not I was trans for a hot minute when I was a younger teen, because I used to love passing as a boy when I was a kid (until puberty at nine. Boo.), but for me it was the difference in how I was treated when I passed as male that mattered. It was the difference between “Oh, isn’t he confident and intelligent?” and “Hello, sweetie, don’t you look pretty today?” that affected me, not a real sense of dysphoria, so I decided the problem wasn’t really in how I presented, but in society itself. I have yet to really find a satisfying way of rectifying that, but I think we’re all making progress as a society. It’s very slow progress, sadly.

Favorite TV Show: I don’t watch that many series, but Star Trek (especially TOS and DS9), X-Files (S1/S2), Game of Thrones, old mystery adaptations (all the Agatha Christie ever), Stranger Things, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad… can’t think of anything else right now, but there are some. 49. Tattoos: One black and grey dotwork spiral goddess on my arm, next one coming soon (watch this space, now I’ve found an artist!) 50. Right or left hand: Ambidextrous. Yes, I can write with both hands. Sometimes, I switch in the middle of the sentence. No, it doesn’t look the same. I can also operate light switches with my toes from a standing position. 51. Surgery: I fucked up my ulnar nerve a couple of years ago by blacking out and falling on some stairs. It was melodramatic, and I lost the use of my left hand. Had surgery to correct it. I was awake but a bit sedated, and spent most of the time talking to the cute anaesthetist about chastity cages. Because... sedated? Yes. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Sadly, he did not call, though I’m pretty sure he did a lot of googling when he got home that night. 52. Hair dyed in different color: Always, since I discovered Olaplex, which means I can actually bleach my hair without it completely frying. Most recently, I’ve had a mermaid fantasy in turquoise, green, and purple, but it’s faded a lot. Not sure what I’ll do next. Maybe orange, or neon yellow again. 53. Sport: I can’t do much without turning blue and blacking out, but I’ve always enjoyed tennis, badminton, swimming, and equestrian stuff. Is hiking a sport? Hiking’s fun. 54. 55. Vacation: Last one was to see my partner; next one will be too. So, the woods of NEPA. Hiking out with some granola and my favourite human, and spending a few days playing with shelter pitbulls. <3 Otherwise, I’ve never really been on holiday. I went on a school trip to Germany once where I nearly got arrested and, when I was seven, I went to Malta and there was a hurricane. I remember wedging wet towels into the window frames and hoping we didn’t die, because we were on the twelfth floor and there was nowhere else to go.

I did go to Norfolk with my mother for four days after her breast cancer diagnosis. Macmillan, a cancer charity that is very worthy of support, granted her a short break. There was a lot of playing dominos and trying to convince her she wasn’t actively dying at that precise moment.

59. I’m about to: Finish a short story, close out an editing project, format a print galley (again. Goddamnit, Adobe.), and try to finalise the running order of a poetry collection. Hi :) I was wondering which are your book OTPs.

so you mean my literary otps?

get. ready.

1. SO. since you started me down this path, there is a little known book by barbara pym called excellent women, about this spinster-in-the-making young woman (called mildred) in england’s 1950s who becomes friends with her downstairs neighbors and develops an innocent crush on the husband of the family. now, that’s not the otp. oh, no. see, the neighbors have this anthropologist friend that is this haughty impatient dude who sneers at everything and seems perennially vexed (he’s not really proud, he’s just super particular and doesn’t have patience for artifice and good manners). IN COMES our protagonist who just doesn’t really know what to do with him. they just sort of accidentally spend time together and they have this amazing dynamic that i’ve looked for in other otps but haven’t found since. basically it’s this fascinating ease they have with each other and this natural grouchiness they share; he doesn’t treat her as a “woman” per se, but as a human being, whom he questions and challenges. he doesn’t put her on a pedestal and he doesn’t really love her for any special quality, it’s so fucking charming and effortless. there is this JEWEL of a scene where he awkwardly invites her over for dinner, and mildred thinks he’s your average asshole bachelor trying to get a free meal out of her (basically, having her over to cook for him) so she rejects him. she eventually does come over and when she acts surprised she doesn’t need to cook for him, he’s SO outraged like “wtf cook for me??? no thank u??? that’s not why you’re here grl”. it is PERFECT. i may be super subjective, tho, but these two owned me and still do. oh also, the dude’s name is EVERARD. it truly is perfect. so yeah, mildred/everard 5ever.

2. elizabeth/darcy is a given, but i will like to say that from austen’s plethora of delightful ships, my angst-sucker-punch will forever be fanny price/henry crawford from mansfield park. yeah yeah, fanny ends up with dreaded cousin edmund for…sigh, good reasons i guess. like, it’s probably just my weird hang-up and perhaps austen thought this ship was too much “reformed rake” for her taste but maaan, when this tiny ship sailed, it sailed (i’m also always a sucker for playa dude plays himself with feelings)

3. here i go with my obscure shit again, but this novel from amelie nothomb. it can be translated as “the sparrow’s diary”, and it’s such a weird otp, because this dude is hired to assassinate a whole family, from what i remember, and he goes through with it, but he discovers the diary of the teenage girl and keeps it for some reason. and he falls for her, post-death. it’s messed up and amazing. and i won’t spoil the ending, but whoa. yeah, so assassin/sparrow. my jam.

4. eliza doolittle/henry higgins. grouchy marrieds seems to be a theme. i love how unsentimental this ship is, when you get down to it.

5. beatrice/benedick from much ado about nothing. def see a pattern here.

6. phaedra/hippolytus. yes, the original mother/stepson ship yall. euripides was my guy. also, here’s a delightful pic from one of the stage adaptations

6. eve/the literal devil in paradise lost. the original sinful otp. i remember milton writing about lucifer pining over eve and her coolness. the BEST.

7. robin/cormoran strike from the cormoran strike series by jk rowling. THESE TWO, lord oh mighty, you know, i do have harry potter ships aplenty, but rowling never ever managed to kill me with feels UNTIL ROBIN AND CORMORAN. fuck me. they are the exact mixture of banter/tough-love i adore so much. and what should be obvious from this entire list is that i love it when the gents treat the ladies like fully formed, complex human beings.

8. amy/nick from gone girl. one day i will wrote a whole “post” on my theory that gillian flynn actually wrote the truest romance ever with these two. yes, also great commentary on the patriarchy and the capitalist twist on marriage etc. BUT deep down, this is a story of two people who come to really, finally see each other for the first time. and what they find is that, paradoxically, they match really fucking well. U HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS. nick doesn’t just stay with her at the end because he’s “trapped”. it’s a larger metaphor for me. he’s trapped because no one will ever know his soul like amy, and vice versa. it’s only after you’ve shat on each other forever that you can come out of it remade. FIGHT ME. (my second secret theory about gone girl it’s that wuthering heights with reversed genders and a sordid, amazing HEA for cathy(nick)/heathcliff(amy).

9. iago/othello - i would argue iago’s deep loathing was desire, mixed with a desperate need to subjugate othello.

10. onegin/tatiana. yall. YALL. if you have never read “evgheni oneghin” by pushkin, remedy this mistake immediately. it’s a tragicomic lyrical novel about a young dandy who is doomed to ignore love when it is presented to him. but it’s also great, trope-wise. basically, he meets this young woman, tatiana, whom he finds pretty but simple and too romantic. she falls for him and tells him earnestly she wants to be together. this takes place circa early 19th century in russia. he rejects her. skip to 10 years later, she’s married to some important dude, he’s still embittered asshole, but he meets her again and falls for her. the roles are reversed, however. BOOM. weep on that.

11. lestat/louis/claudia for my anne rice fans. what a trash fam.

12. alice munro has a short story called “passion” which forever owns my soul. in it, this young, kind of naive girl goes on a drive with her boyfriend’s brother and well, it’s the best thing ever. the saddest, too. basically, those two.

13. clara kalliam/ vincen coe. okay, yall, you may have no idea who these folks are but hooo boy, did they ruin me. so daniel abraham has this fantasy series called the dagger and the coin. basically, clara is part of the upper class society and is married to a baron. vincen is her husband’s servant. he is several years younger. their bond can never be. enter lots of angst and yearning and hot chemistry. what’s hilarious/painful about this ship is that clara is a lot like catelyn stark and vincen is a lot like jon snow, soooo if you ever thought that would be an interesting pairing, you’re welcome (i should say, they’re hardly the main focus/main ship of the series but they do play an important part and they’re my bbies)

14. there’s this book by yukio mishima called “spring snow”, it’s part of a bigger trilogy of his on love. but anyway, the two lovers in that book are sooo fucking intense i die every time. he wants to hate her, but ends up worshipping her. she’s engaged to a prince, ofc. it’s hopeless. the aaaangst. (in later novels, there’s a great queer subtext involving reincarnation and two male friends, but! those two crazy kids).i had to look up their names again, but they’re called kiyoaki & satoko.

15. dunya/svidrigailov - sooooo. these two are from crime and punishment, by dostoyevsky. basically, it’s a petyr/sansa ship that goes there. there’s a scene where she threatens him with a gun and it’s the hottest thing ever. he’s kiiind of obsessed with her but she’s also drawn to him. it’s weird and tragic and hopeless, in the end, but sooo good.

16. pretextat/nina - another amelie nothomb novel, this one called “hygiene de l’assassin”. so, you have this author dude who is scum of the earth. erudite and refined but absolute piece of fucking shit. enter girl who read all his work and wants to interview him. she thinks she’s uncovered the fact that he murdered someone in his past. pretextat falls in love with her in the course of one conversation. at one point i remember there’s a scene where she spits on him. it’s the fucking best.

i think i’ve got many more, but just to give you a taste of my diverse literary menagerie lol. (jane/rochester should probs be there too but i decided to go with lesser known, more personal choices).

(I think this was supposed to be fun and light but it ended up going to a really deep and verbose place so I’m putting it under the cut)

how tall are you? 5′6″ and I’m not a fan... short people are cuter what color and style is your hair? red and long and curly what color are your eyes? they’re blue around the edges and green around the pupil and I know that sounds like a description straight out of “my immortal” but no I’m not making this up do you wear glasses or contacts? both but I prefer glasses do you wear braces? never have never will what is your fashion style? I don’t think I really have a “style.” That would require more money than I am willing to spend on clothes. But I love everything Claire wears so... if I could afford Claire’s style and pull it off I would dress like her when were you born? October 22 (burn this date in your mind) how old are you? 24 do you have any siblings? 2 brothers, one older one younger what school/college do you go to? this seems like tmi so I’ll just say I’m in nursing school (as if everyone didn’t know that already I never shut up about it) what kind of student are you? the worst. I’m that asshole who puts in 10% effort and turns in everything late and somehow still does ok what are your favorite subjects? anatomy was super fun (the human body is weird and amazing) but I think my favorite class I’ve ever taken was formal logic (it’s the satisfaction of completing mathematical equations with none of the actual math) what are your favorite shows? 30 rock, parks and rec, the office, community, scrubs... basically good sitcoms with 5+ seasons. I’m also a slut for reality tv (dance moms anyone?) and competition shows (great british bake-off what whaaat) what are your favorite movies? the one I always pick when I have to pick just one is when harry met sally but I am a huge cinephile and I have dozens of favorites so if you’re looking for a movie rec hmu what are your favorite books? my book choices are a lil outdated cuz all I read is fanfic lately lololol but old OLD faves are hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, the giver, ready player one, and the hunger games series what are your favorite past times? my favorite past time is collecting past times, getting decently good at them, and then abandoning them. I’ve taught myself to play the ukulele, painting and drawing, niche board games, pottery, baking, the basics of a few languages, and a few video games here and there. The only hobbies that I’ve done consistently for several years are knitting, watching movies (specifically going to the movie theater because you can’t beat that atmosphere tbh), and writing (mostly fanfiction; I haven’t written anything original since high school). do you have any regrets? I wish I had never gone to the second university I attended... I basically wasted three years of my life in a hick town. I was miserable but I learned a lot about myself and also a lot about people and how to not be a shitty one so I guess it wasn’t a total waste. It sure felt like it though. what is your dream job? I wish I had the self-confidence to be a fiction writer full time. If I really worked hard at developing original concepts, I think I could be pretty good at it. Plus I would never have to leave my apartment and I could wear sweatpants 24/7, which is the real dream, let’s be real would you like to get married? where? I kind of flip flop on this one... sometimes I think I’d like it but then again I’m such a loner that I think I would suck at marriage sooo... my brother says I need to find someone who is as smart as me but total shit at something I’m good at, so I can take care of them and feel needed. I don’t know that marriage necessarily needs to be involved... Plus if I ever did get married I’d prob elop or only invite my immediate family sooooo do you want kids? how many? I don’t think I’d want to create life but I’d be 100% down for adopting... then again when my celeb crushes say they want kids I’m all I VOLUNTEER so who can say do you like shopping? If I magically come into extra income then yes. If I’m on a budget, shopping for something I need is like torture. The exception is always make-up/skincare. I buy myself new make-up when I’m sad. how many countries have you visited? 7, all of them European, but one of them was just for a day so I feel like it doesn’t really count. I really want to visit some Asian countries, though. what was your scariest dream? The scariest one that comes to mind was being locked in an office building with office workers and there was a serial killer-type guy in a jigsaw mask who kept turning the lights off and abducting people one by one and disfiguring their faces. No fuckin clue where that came from tbh. I’ve never even seen Saw. do you have any enemies? I’d like to think I don’t? I try really hard to treat everyone well regardless of how they treat me because I like being liked... but honestly there are a few people who hate my guts and won’t meet me halfway to reconcile sooooo yes, I guess I do. I don’t hold it against them, though. If they ever took a moment to see things from my point of view they would realize that I never meant them any harm and I’m just a flawed person, trying my best. But apologies don’t go very far with people who like to hold grudges and feel like the world is against them, so I can’t do anything about that. do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? I don’t have the energy for that. Right now, having a S/O sounds kind of terrible actually lmao they’re so much work
