#i really really want to remember the name of Soren's other sword

Had a dream that the name of Soren's current sword is Hilda (he named her himself). And the one he had the night of the assassination had a longer fancy more masculine name that started with an L(?). Something like Lancelot, combined with the regality of Vilarian (or something similar). And that one was given to him when he became the youngest Crownguard (pre-named). Hilda was gifted to him later as a more of a 'practical' sword for every day use and carry, letting Lanarilion(?) being the one for major battles and ceremonies due to being bigger and heavier and a double hand sword vs a hand a half.
He still has both swords but uses Hilda more often currently. And every night he takes care of Vilanceian(?) and Hilda, giving them proper care and maintenance of sharpening them, polishing them, oiling them, keeping their scabbards in good condition. And he constantly tells his swords how much he loves them both for their individual strengths. And laments that he hasn't used Lianceion(?) recently. (i know he has at least a three syllables, possibly four syllables in his name) (i think Soren lost also Vilanceion(?) temporarily for some reason and thats when he got Hilda as his new personal sword {instead of using a standard guard issued sword} but found Vilanarilion(?) soon after leaving him temporarily conflicted till he decided to keep both)

Tdp shower thoughts (from your local callum enthusiast)
LOWKEY think he’s (callum) gonna be more sarcastic in this season and I’m living for it.
ezran is old??? Like , he’s 12 why is he so tall???
Soren becoming an older brother figure to callum please that boy needs a found family
I’m kinda confused where the writers are going with the whole viren and callum parallels but I don’t want anything bad to happen though it will.
arravos key????
idc about “cute wholesome rayllum reunion” ya we can have a cute “I’m so glad your ok” after seeing each other again but I want some “you left me!”s and the “I had to!”, just all the angst.
rayllum went from enemies to friends? To friends. To friends! To maybe more?? To yea more! To unplanned breakup bcus “I need to protect you” to friends??? To lovers
If the credits are callums sketches does he just have omnipotent sight of all the plot lines cuz there’s so many sketches in there of stuff he hasn’t seen???
I jusT really want some main character to die this season.
CALLUM AND CLAUDIA, THE TWO TRAUMATIZED C NAMES WITH LINKS TO CREEPY STARBUG MAN REUNION
I want attempted murder???
if callum ever gets like that “possessed “ thing w aravos where virens eyes went all rainbow he’d just look like beast Wirt without horns. Especially with his old clothes.
JUST REMEMBERED THAT THNG I REALIZED EARLIER
Okokok , when viren said that spell with the unicorn horn and stuffed it into sarais spear he said some backwards speaky spooky thing which went like Yadda, something, something love and loss , yadda yadda. (Go search it up) the new song for tdp s4 we just got is called “a song of love and loss” so smthin to do with that???
I really wanna see angus again haha
Anybody gonna think up amazing angst potential for callum finding ruunannabeth (I can’t spell his name) his sword bow thingy (aka the thing that killed his dad ) no? Just me? how is arravos getting these little chess pieces , he’s got one of viren, callum, and elderly dark magic guy that looked LOWKEY like snape and blinded angry sun dragon grandpa. Does he magically make the chess pieces or does he like sculpt them. ???
Arron e has said something about him emotionally shutting off some parts of himself and pouring all his energy into ithers so I’m 100% sure we’re gonna get the “oh no callums studying magic and doing arravos stuff instead if sleeping “ plot line.
Ik everybody is like “well obviously he’s gonna learn all the arcanum’s “and he kinda wants to learn moon next obviously, I kinda wanna see him master fire. Nothing to do with his character , I just like the concept of being able to set anything aflame at any possible moment.
can he get hit by lightning and not die. That would be so funny. He’s just outside in the rain med sentence and gets struck. He’s just covered and soot and starts coughing like a kindergartener
@raayllum thx for reposting my art haha I love your stuff bcus it usually makes me exhale outta my nose.

i’ve been thinking about the future of the mcu and realized there’s a LOT that i didn’t know/didn’t remember in terms of where things are going so i figured i’d sum it up incase anyone else was in the same boat!!
quick recap of (unresolved) mid-credit scenes:
doctor strange: mordo (a sorcerer that is one of strange’s mentors, who by the end of the movie becomes disillusioned with magic/the ancient one and quits) confronts pangborn (the paraplegic who healed himself with the mystic arts, who tells strange about mystic arts in the first place) and steals his magic because according to mordo, there are “too many sorcerers." of note, this guy is typically a villain in the comics but hasn’t been thus far...
gotg2: ayesha (leader of the sovereign, a golden skinned alien race obsessed with genetic purity), after spending most of the movie chasing the guardians for stealing some stuff, is revealed to have created an artificial being named “adam” which is presumably, adam warlock. (other stuff that is less relevant: kraglin appears to take up yondu’s mantle; the ravagers regroup and several old and obscure comic book characters are introduced [charlie-27, aleta, martinex, mainframe]; the watchers are watching things.)
far from home: j jonah jameson basically tells the whole world spider-man’s secret identity, and frames him for what happened with mysterio....making him public enemy #1. ALSO, turns out nick fury and maria hill in the movie were ACTUALLY the two skrulls from captain marvel (talos and soren) attempting to do their job, while the real fury (and presumably hill) is ... up in space on some spaceship!!!
wandavision: monica (who we can assume is photon) is called by “an old friend of [her] mother’s,” up in space, which presumably means fury, talos, or carol. ALSO, wanda sits in the middle of nowhere reading the darkhold and hears the voices of her children who.. by all accounts, should not exist.
aaaaand what we know about future movies (i’m not even going into the tv series.....):
black widow:
takes place after civil war
nat confronts a “dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past,” likely has to do with taskmaster who has apparently taken over the red room where nat was trained as an assassin
prominent new characters: yelena belova, who will take over the mantle of black widow after this; alexei shostakov aka red guardian, an ollllld marvel hero analogous to captain america except for the soviet union.
tony stark will make an appearance... SOBS
shang-chi and the legend of the ten rings:
shang-chi has never been seen in the mcu before, but he is, essentially, a superhero that is a master martial artist, and in some adaptations can also create duplicate (fake) versions of himself to confuse opponents
main villain will be the the mandarin who we have *sort of* seen before... he is the leader of a terrorist organization called “ten rings” whose main goal is to destroy world peace. brief history -- in iron man 1: one ten rings cell kidnaps tony stark and tries to force him to make weapons (he of course, makes his suit instead). stark and ten rings become enemies and fight a bunch. nat and nick fury fight them too. in iron man 3, the villain aldrich killian hires a dude to pretend to be the mandarin and claim responsibility for a bunch of stuff, but its not the ten rings or the mandarin at all. this makes the mandarin v mad and he has a dude kidnap the faker to punish him. they also briefly show up in ant-man, when a ten rings agent tries to buy the yellowjacket suit that darren cross is selling. BUT IN SHANG-CHI....... looks like we are FINALLY going to see the real mandarin after over a decade!!
the villain razor fist will also show up, he is lesser known... he has no superhuman powers but he has surgically replaced his hands (1 or 2, depending on the version) with a steel blade, and is highly skilled at hand to hand combat.
besides the presence of these characters, the only bit of plot we know is “shang-chi is drawn into the ten rings organization and forced to confront his past.” so... yeah. we don’t know much at all.
eternals:
quick explanation: the eternals are an immortal alien race who have been secretly living on earth for thousands of years. they were created by the celestials, who are most prominently in gotg2.
more entirely new characters!!! their names are: thena, who can form any weapon out of cosmic energy; gilgamesh, who can make a super strong exoskeleton out of cosmic energy; ikaris, who has superhuman strength, flies, and can project cosmic energy out his eyes; kingo, who can shoot cosmic energy projectiles from his hands; makkari, who creates sonic booms, has super speed, and is deaf; phastos, who has enhanced intelligence, and is also gay (and married with a kid!); ajak, who has healing powers; sprite, who can project illusions; sersi, who can manipulate matter; druig, who can mind control; and dane whitman (black knight), a human with a mystical sword.
regarding the plot... it seems the eternals have kind of dispersed, but have to come together again to fight the deviants, who are their “evil counterparts” (also created by the celestials, though i’m unclear on why). thena and gilgamesh have apparently been in exile, unclear why; sersi, who is posing as a museum curator, has apparently been in love with ikaris for centuries and it seems as if their love story may be central to the film; and kingo is a bollywood film star in his spare time. aaaaand that’s pretty much all we know.
directed by chloé zhao of nomadland fame!
spider-man no way home:
based on the post-credits scene in far from home, peter parker will now be known as spider-man to everyone. unclear if he’s going to be seen as a bad guy due to mysterio framing him, but i guess we’ll see!
jamie foxx is electro, and alfred molina is doctor octopus; which is VERY interesting considering they played these roles in other spider-man franchises, once again stirring up excitement for possible multiverse.
there have been *multiple* reports that andrew garfield, kirsten dunst, tobey maguire, and emma stone will be in the movie but tom holland has repeatedly denied this... so... who knows.
there are also rumors that matt murdock / daredevil (from netflix) will be in several scenes! not confirmed though.
MJ is still his girlfriend and i hope it stays that way!!
doctor strange will be featured in the movie, taking on the mentor role now that tony stark is gone :( this will be interesting as i.. haven’t really seen them interact much before. because of this inclusion some people speculate that the film may draw inspo from some comic storylines where peter’s secret identity is restored with magic.
doctor strange in the multiverse of madness:
scarlet witch is essentially co-starring!!! it’s going to be really interesting to see if they bring vision or the twins into this at all, though i’m not counting on it.
seems like mordo will be the main villain -- recall the ds1 post credits scene where he is apparently running around trying to steal people’s magic.
america chavez will make her debut!!!!!! i have no idea how this plays into anything but i am so excited!!
regarding the plot, all we really know is that strange has been researching the time stone, mordo messes with him, and this results in him accidentally unleashing “unspeakable evil.” presumably there will also be heavy involvement of the multiverse, and who knows what kind of craziness that will bring!!
initially was going to be directed by scott derrickson who did ds1; however he stepped down to being just EP due to “creative differences.” i am presuming this is because derrickson really wanted to make this more gothic and horror than disney was comfortable with. i REALLY hope they keep some of those elements though and don’t erase the idea entirely! anyway, it will be directed by sam raimi now (of evil dead and spiderman 2002 fame).
the film also reportedly ties in with the loki series (will loki show up!?) and spiderman 3 (which is obvious enough, given that strange is in that movie and those curious electro and doctor octopus castings...)
thor: love and thunder
directed by taika waititi again, hell yeah!!! and he has stated, the film will be “so over the top now in the very best way" and would make ragnarok look like a "run of the mill, very safe film" .... so.... oh god
so many great returning players!!! including.... valkyrie (now the king of new asgard), jane foster, lady sif, korg, star-lord, mantis, drax, nebula, and kraglin (takes up yondu’s mantle after he dies in gotg2)
in this movie, thor isn’t thor anymore.... it’s JANE!!! she gets cancer :( and is undergoing treatment while simultaneously being thor. i’m a little nervous how this will be handled, but i’m excited. (it’s based off an amazing comic series by jason aaron)
the big bad: gorr the god butcher, played by christian bale! the gist of it is, this dude HATES gods because nobody helped when his family was dying and in need. his weapon is “all-black the necrosword,” forged from the head of a celestial, and allows the user to create wings and fly at extreme speeds. honestly, he sounds cool as fuck.
valkyrie is going to be made canonically bisexual!!!
it will explore more of korg’s backstory, and also include... space sharks!?!?! an alien race from the comics.
taika has called the script “very romantic” so take that as you will
black panther 2
will again be directed by ryan coogler
not much is known at this point, does not have an official name
t’challa will NOT be recast (which i’m happy about) so..... honestly no idea what to expect for this one. i think we can probably expect shuri to have an expanded role. all we know so far is they will be “exploring the world of wakanda.” not clear to me how this is different from the upcoming wakanda D+ series.
tenoch huerta has reportedly been cast as a villain, but no one has any idea who. there’s also rumors that donald glover is in “informal talks” to play a role. note all of this is unconfirmed.
captain marvel 2
will be directed by nia da costa (candyman!) and written by megan mcdonnell, who is one of wandavision’s best writers!
will take place in the present day
will feature kamala khan / ms. marvel, monica rambeau / photon!!! this will be so interesting.... kamala is a huge fan of carol’s in the comics, she is her mentor/idol. the ms. marvel series will also resportedly lead into cm2. and monica, well, monica knew her when she was a little kid. wandavision implies that there’s some bad blood between carol and monica though, not sure why. maybe because carol left and never came back? (until endgame)
post-credits scene of wandavision appears to tie into this, having monica go up into space at the reqeust of her “mom’s old friend.” again, not clear who that is. this could also be a tie in to secret invasion though, so we’ll see. or both.
zawe ashton has been cast as an unknown villain... a lot of people are actually speculating that she may play rogue? which would be fascinating, as there’s a comic arc where rogue steals her powers and memories. BUT there’s still no confirmation that X-men exist in the MCU so for now i remain skeptical.
they are looking to cast a ‘john boyega’ or ‘michael b jordan’ type which makes me wonder if they are going to create a new character, a “younger” war machine to be her love interest? (note: carol and rhodey are a huge thing in comics!) carol obviously does not look her age but her and don cheadle.... that just doesn’t work. which is why i wonder.
ant-man and the wasp: quantumania
in addition to scott and hope, pretty much all the major players are returning including: luis, hank pym, janet van dyne
cassie lang has been recast with an actress 5 years older, which is really making me wonder if they are going to make her stinger in this movie! (aka one of the main young avengers)
the villain: kang the conqueror! this dude time travels. original name nate richards. in the comics, kang travels back in time to rescue his younger self (nate) from an attack that would help shape him towards a life of villainy. kang also gives him some fancy armor. his younger self actually is like, what the fuck dude? and renounces his destiny, becoming a hero. and he makes his armor look like iron man, calling himself iron lad. who is a young avenger. which also makes me wonder about cassie lang.
otherwise not much is known!
guardians of the galaxy vol. 3
james gunn is returning, i’m mixed about this...he really does *get* the guardians though.
based on the gotg2 post credits scene, i think we can assume adam warlock will be a HUGE part of this. there are multiple versions of him, some villainous and some heroic, but no idea how this is gonna turn out.
no word yet on whether thor will be involved, or if those ravagers they introduced will be involved.
fantastic four
will be directed by the spiderman guy, john watts.
otherwise we know literally nothing.
aaaaand that’s the roundup!

Fire Emblem 10 Drama CD Translation - Complete and Edited!
FE Game Script Translations - FE Novel Translations - Original FE Support Conversations - Ko-fi
Hey everyone, I was lucky enough to be given a written script for this entire CD and some advice on mistranslations, so be sure to check this post out, even if you read my original posts for this CD!
———————————
Introduction
*Opens with sounds of combat: grunts, yells, weapons clashing, etc., w/ focus on Ike’s voice.*
Daein Soldier: Gaaaah!
Ike: Haaaa!
Soren: Haaa!
Ike: Hi-yaaaah!
Daein Soldier: Retreat!
Soren: After them!
*sounds of retreating Daein soldiers’ footsteps*
Ike: *walks towards Micaiah* You are... the Priestess of Dawn.
Micaiah: And you are General Ike, yes? Sothe told me about you.
Ike: You are important to him, so I do not want to fight.
Micaiah: And you took care of him, so I feel the same way. However…
Ike: Daein has no intention of withdrawing.
Micaiah: No.
Ike: Then… *unsheathes sword* We have no choice but to fight.
*sounds of combat gradually become louder once more, then fade into music*
Ike’s voice: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Drama CD:
Ike & Micaiah’s voices: Clash of Heroic Ideals!
(T/N: a more literal translation of the title: “The Unshakeable Ideals of the Rival Leaders")
Scene I
*sounds of general army camp activity: people talking, weapons clashing in sparring matches, etc.*
Soren: The Laguz troops had very high morale.
Ike: Yeah. They believe in Ranulf’s words.
Soren: I think he’s changed a bit from before, too.
Ike: *laughs* Oh, Skrimir? Do you still hate him?
Soren: Of course I do. He’s the type that I’m worst with. He thinks that battle is won by strength alone.
Ike: Don’t say that! He’s a candidate for the next king of Gallia. And King Caineghis decided to make him the general of their army, right?
Soren: *chuckles* You talk as if you’ve become his father.
Ike: Ah…? Hey, of course I haven’t! But you are one to laugh at something like that.
Soren: Ike, you’re becoming more and more like Commander Greil.
Ike: So even you’ve said that now. The people we’ve reunited with from three years ago have been telling me the same thing. Jeez… Every last one of them...
Soren: I’m just fondly watching over you as you grow.
Ike: Hey! Now you’re the one acting like you’ve become a father!
Soren: Someday… you might understand what that means.
Ike: Hm? *turns closer towards Soren* What did you just say?
Soren: Nothing. But there’s one more reason why a frontal attack is dangerous. As I mentioned earlier, I’m concerned about Daein’s movements.
Ike: Of course... However you look at it, our army is more powerful. Is the empire forcing them to fight, like you said?
Titania: *walks up* Hey you two, we’re going to get ready to deploy now.
Ike: Titania! Okay, got it.
Soren: About that, I have a suggestion based on our current situation. Ike, please tell me your thoughts about it.
Ike: Hm?
Scene II
*sounds of general army camp activity: people talking, weapons clashing in sparring matches, etc.*
Micaiah: *sigh*
Sothe: Can I say what you’re thinking, Micaiah?
Micaiah: Sothe?
Sothe: You’re wondering why Prince Pelleas is doing something like this... Or maybe about why he’s cooperating with the empire… Right?
Micaiah: *giggles* Shall I try to guess what you’re thinking about?
Sothe: W-What?
Micaiah: You respect Ike, commander of the Greil Mercenaries, so you don’t really want to fight him… Am I right?
Sothe: *gasps*
Micaiah: Well?
Sothe: You’re half right, half wrong. I don’t want to fight him, but if you’ve decided to, then it’s another story. I won’t waver. I’d make anyone my enemy.
Micaiah: You’re pushing yourself, aren’t you?
Sothe: I’m not! *sits down* Surely Commander Ike should understand, too. Like I said, he’s a hero who can face any enemy and fight them at full strength. So if I must risk my life and fight for you, then he wouldn’t be against that.
Micaiah: *giggles* Even in those words… I can hear your respect and affection for him.
Sothe: ...Ah!
Micaiah: *giggles* Sorry. I’m joking around. *draws closer to Sothe* Sothe… you’ve gotten much stronger.
Sothe: Of course! Even if you leave out the fact that I fought in the previous war, three years have passed. I’m not a child.
Micaiah: Mmm.... I’m really happy. With how you’ve grown...
Sothe: Micaiah…
*running footsteps start quiet, then get louder*
Daein Soldier #1: *panting* The enemy front line! They're here!
Sothe: *gasps*
Micaiah: Understood. Shall we go, too?
Sothe: Yes.
*army cheers for Micaiah*
Daein Soldier #2: The Priestess of Dawn has returned!
Daein Soldier #3: Victory will be ours!
Daein Soldier #4: Glory be to Daein!
Daein Soldier #5: The Priestess of Dawn!
Scene III
*sounds of combat can be faintly heard in the background throughout this scene* Ike: Teeeeh-reyah! *swings sword*
Daein Soldier: Gaaaaaahhhh! *collapses*
Ike: *takes a deep breath and sheaths his sword* They’re no doubt a small army… yet expertly commanded.
Sothe: *approaches Ike* Commander Ike…
Ike: Sothe… You’ve gotten taller. ...That’s right, you’re from Daein, aren’t you?
Sothe: You remembered!
Ike: Did you find who you were looking for?
Sothe: Yeah. She’s this army’s current general.
Ike: ...The Priestess of Dawn, huh?
Sothe: Her name is Micaiah. Stop calling her by that absurd alias. Commander… I… *turns around* didn’t want to reunite with you like this!
Ike: Yet… you have no intention of withdrawing, do you?
Sothe: No.
Ike: If youre prepared to make her to continue on alone… then come at me! If you’re not ready yet, then don’t come near me. I’m not so soft that I’ll hold back on the battlefield!
Sothe: Ah… Still, Commander… I have no choice but to fight you! Ahhhhhhhhhh! *runs forward*
*weapons clash*
Ike: You’ve gotten a little stronger! But… *weapons clash* do you really think such a light blow will hurt me!?
Sothe: Ah!
Ike: Hoooooooo!
Micaiah: *runs in* Oh guiding light… lead us forward, and destroy the obstacles standing in our way!
*light magic spell sounds*
Ike: Gah!
Sothe: Micaiah!
Micaiah: You attacked Ike… Perhaps it’s because I’ve heard so much about you from Sothe… but it doesn’t feel like we’re meeting for the first time.
Ike: I have nothing against either of you personally… You came before me as enemies. I won’t go easy on you!
Micaiah: Thank you… If you’ll do that for us, then we’ll fight our full strength as well!
Sothe: Let’s go, Micaiah! We’ll take him down together!
*wind blows*
Soren: I will be your opponent! Elwind!
*strong wind slices through the air*
Sothe: You! So you’re still by the commander’s side, like always!?
Soren: Of course. I will always be near him.
*Ike unsheathes sword*
*weapons clash, magic spells fly through the air*
Micaiah: Shine!
*Shine spell sounds*
Ike: Hiiiii-rrryaaaaah!
Micaiah: *gasps* But I hit him…
Ike: Sorry, but I don’t train like other people do. There’s no one to protect you here! This is your final chance! Retreat!
Micaiah: I… *pants, then collapses* can’t!
Sothe: *gasps* Micaiah! *runs towards her*
*teleporting woosh noises*
Black Knight: Ha! *swings weapon, then starts walking forwards*
Sothe: The Black Knight...!
Black Knight: Maiden, are you alright?
Micaiah: S-Sir Knight...
Sothe: Gah... Now! *runs*
Soren: Tch… Wait!
Sothe: *sits down* Micaiah!
Micaiah: Sothe… I-I’m sorry… I did it again...
Black Knight: It seems that she’s used too much of her power. Get her away from here.
Sothe: O-Okay. *picks up Micaiah and runs off*
Ike: Even if I try to run after them, you’ll get in my way, won’t you?
Black Knight: Of course. I was once one of Daein’s Four Riders.
Ike: So you did survive.
Black Knight: Did you really think you could kill me with the strength you had then?
Ike: Hm, did I? But I never thought that one victory could free my heart of need for vengeance that haunts it!
Black Knight: That’s good news. My armor lost it’s blessing after that fight.
Ike: Then I will defeat you again this time! *unsheathes sword*
Black Knight: Alright then… *readies sword* You may come at me!
Ike: Grrrrraaaaaaahhhhh!! *swings sword*
Scene IV
Sothe: *panting and running*
Micaiah: *gasps for air*
Sothe: We should be safe here for a moment… Micaiah… Hang in there!
Micaiah: Gah… *pants* Sothe… I… lost consciousness again?
Sothe: Yeah, you did... but there’s no enemies around here. You can rest easy.
Micaiah: No… I am a general of Daein… I can’t leave the front line...
Sothe: But because you’re a general, it’ll mean the end if you die first!
Micaiah: ...Sothe… I must… protect everyone…
Sothe: Daein is certainly my precious homeland. But it’s nothing to me compared to you! I will protect you! Even if it means I make an enemy of my country… or the world!
Micaiah: ...Sothe… Ah…
Sothe: Micaiah!! ...Have you fainted again…? Alright then, I’ll use this chance to get us away from the battlefield! *runs off*
Scene V
*sounds of combat between Ike and the Black Knight*
Black Knight: You’ve gotten stronger.
Ike: So have you. You’re even stronger than you were three years ago.
Black Knight: At that time, only my spirit and armor warped. Now, I am in my own body. Of course there would be a gap in my power.
Ike: I see… so that’s how you survived…
Daein Soldier #1: The Black Knight has appeared!
Daein Soldier #2: This is our only chance to attack the enemy general!
Soren: Ike, the enemy soldiers are gathering here!
Ike: Are you telling me to retreat!? It’s no use trying to talk me out of this! Tee-ryaaaaah! *swings weapon*
Black Knight: Haa-yaaaaaah!
*weapons clash*
Daein Soldier: Ready your bows! Shoot the enemy general!
*soldiers draw and fire arrows*
Ike: What!?
*arrows fall*
Black Knight: *raises weapon* This is the end for you...
Ike: Haaah!
*weapons clash*
Ike: *falls*
Black Knight: Prepare yourself! *raises weapon*
Soren: Ike! *runs* You’re the only person I won’t let be killed! *throws himself in front of Ike*
Black Knight: Are you trying to get yourself killed? Even if you try to risk your own life for him, you cannot change his death.
Soren: No matter what… I will protect Ike! Ike… I don’t think you remember… that we met once when we were young, but... At that time, I thought my life to be short… and that I couldn’t be saved, so I was only awaiting my death. But you saved me… one of the Branded, discriminated against by both Beorc and Laguz. That is why I will always be by your side and protect you… no matter what!
Black Knight: So you will go together with him...? That’s fine. Hmmmm! *swings sword*
Titania: *horse gallops into the scene* Haaaaaah! *swings weapon, horse stops and neighs* I won’t let you kill any more of the people precious to me!
Soren: Titania! You made it!?
Titania: Yes! We successfully hit the enemy from their weak spot! We overwhelmed them from behind, and I was able to bring reinforcements, too!
*reinforcements yell out battle cries in the distance*
Ike: Guh… Ah… *sits up*
*sounds of combat begin in the distance*
Ike: Did I… Ah... lose consciousness?
Soren: Ike! *kneels down* Are you okay!?
Ike: Yeah. *stands* Sorry for troubling you.
Soren: No… you could never… I...
Ike: ...Are you… crying?
Soren: Ah… no… I wouldn’t… It’s okay. I’m fine.
Ike: Alright then, let’s do this! *lifts sword* Fight with us, Titania!
Titania: Yes! This is an opportunity to show off the power of the Greil Mercenaries! *horse neighs and begins to gallop*
Black Knight: What are you planning…?
Titania: Heee-yah! *horse gallops up to Black Knight, Titania swings her weapon*
*weapons clash*
Black Knight: Gah! Female knight… Are you providing a distraction for them?!
Titania: Well, can you afford to get distracted!?
Black Knight: That is a foolish hope!
*weapons clash*
Soren: By the power of my wind magic… this brave soldier will be sent flying towards the heavens! *casts wind spell that propels Ike into the air*
Ike: Hoooooo-aaaaaaah!
Black Knight: Hm!?
Ike: This is… the end! *swings weapon*
Black Knight: Gah!? *falls over*
Soren: Yes! We did it, Ike!
Ike: *gasps for air* Yeah!
Black Knight: *rises* Tch... I see… You've gotten stronger. But I didn’t think you could have gotten this much stronger… Let’s stop here for now. I would hate to end our fight in one go.
Ike: I feel the same. You can challenge me any time. Whatever the circumstances, I’d accept a fight against you!
Black Knight: *steps towards Soren*
Soren: ...Um… What do you want with me…?
Black Knight: You are the same as I… You’ve found someone to live with. Though it will one day end in tragedy.
Soren: Ah!
Black Knight: And Micaiah… she, too, is on the same path.
Ike: I don’t know what you’re trying to say, but the Priestess of Dawn, Sothe, you, us… we are all simply living our lives to the fullest for what we believe in.
Titania: That’s right! Though we struggle with difficult trials and tragic fates, we have no choice but to continue on through our fears.
Ike: Yeah. All we can do... is continue on as we always have!
Black Knight: Is that so? Then let us meet again, *steps away* son of Gawain. *teleports away*
Scene VI
*cheering, sounds of combat*
Ike’s Army Soldier #1: We did it!
Ike’s Army Soldier #2: Victory is ours!
Ike’s Army Soldier #3: Long live General Ike!!
*hawk Laguz screeches*
Sothe: They have beasts and hawks among their reinforcements...!
Micaiah: Even the Bird Tribe of Phoenicis is here? Begnion didn’t tell us anything about that...
Sothe: We’ve been had…. Commander Ike’s army was a diversion.
Micaiah: At this rate, the number of sacrifices will only increase… Let’s retreat for now.
Sothe: The Daein soldiers will probably say that they still want to fight.
Micaiah: I can’t afford to let them die for no reason. At this time, we have no choice but to retreat.
Sothe: ...I understand. Let’s go relay the message to the entire army.
Micaiah: Hey, Sothe… That man… General Ike… He was just like you told me. Strong… noble… considerate of those around him… but also always able to calmly understand the state of the current battle. He’s everything a general should be...
Sothe: Micaiah…
Micaiah: I don’t have the strength, nor the virtues that he has… But I will protect Daein!
Sothe: Mm…
Micaiah: Sothe? Shall I try to guess what you are thinking right now?
Sothe: Oh…?
Micaiah: “I want there to come a day when Commander Ike and I can understand each other.” ...Right?
Sothe: *gasps* Th-That’s…
Micaiah: *giggles* I’m joking. But… thank you. It would be a good thing, if that day were to come…
*Music gradually gets louder and plays for about ~20 secs longer to conclude the CD. Bird chirping can be heard throughout the song.*

Last night I had... an interesting dream that may have given me a new The Dragon Prince OC. Well, two, actually, but only one of them is canon compatible.
My dream was a sort of alternate pre-first episode. There was a 15-16 year old girl in the Katolis castle who was considered “the Queen”. Harrow was still King - it was sort of a co-ruling situation. I’m not entirely sure what the deal was? The Queen may have been Callum and Ezran’s older sister; I think Harrow had a step-parental role over her.
Anyway, the interesting part was that Rayla had been hired as a sort of bodyguard for the Queen, and was hanging around the castle. It was a big deal that the Queen had an elf bodyguard, but the Queen trusted Rayla with her life -- and also had a tendency to just stick her head out the window and yell for her whenever she couldn’t find her. It’s unclear at this point how Rayla got the position, but she took it very seriously and tried to keep a level of professional distance from the Queen... and from Callum, who was thoroughly outside her conversational jurisdiction, but who she found annoyingly cute. The Queen was either very paranoid or had some bad history, because the one thing I remember is the Queen yelling for Rayla when she came back to her bedroom from lunch and found the door open - she knew she may have left the door open herself, but she still wanted Rayla to make sure that no one was hiding in the closet, ready to kill her.
(Actually, now that I think about it, if a queen of Katolis went far enough to hire a Moonshadow Elf to protect her, there must have been serious concerns for her safety - that’s a pretty drastic measure)
There was also a kind of Vibe going on between the Queen and Rayla, enough so that they were both canonically, textually bi.
Backtracking to that lunch, that’s where the other, potentially canon-compatible character comes in (and the reason I know the Queen was bi because she had a crush). Lunch that day was served in the dining hall, where a visiting group of students from Del Bar had been invited to eat with the King. Among these students, and seated next to the Queen, was an extremely pretty boy with long black hair and a kind, clever face who - for some reason - was also named Corvus (maybe because he had that corvid vibe? He really did look like he was a little elfin - but, like, in a Lord of the Rings way). Things were made extremely awkward and uncomfortable by the fact that Corvus’s mother had joined the students on their trip - Corvus’s mother, who was also Soren and Claudia’s mother. Up to this moment, Soren and Claudia had been unaware that they had a brother. The whole reunion was uncomfortable and painful for everyone involved - except for Corvus, who had been looking forward to meeting his siblings and was now a bit taken aback - but ultimately unsurprised - that they reacted to him with such distress. Soren was actually actively forbidden by his father from socializing with Corvus, which was awkward as hell because they were seated across from each other at lunch. Corvus spent most of the time talking to the Queen instead - explaining his life and his history, and Just So Happening to give Soren the chance to listen in.
(Sidenote - Corvus was in the same age range as Soren and Claudia, so I guess their mom left when they were really young. Claudia must have a good memory.)
Then there was like... a series of explosions? And Corvus-from-Del-Bar jumped out of his seat and ran off to deal with the problem - very hair-flowing-in-the-wind hand-on-sword-at-hip, I’ve-been-watching-too-much-The-Untamed. The Queen jumped out of her chair and chased after him and gave him a kiss on the cheek, and that was that. Ah, young love.
Afterwards, she and Rayla commiserated about having crushes on boys they couldn’t have, and they were like “maybe we should just date each other,” and then basically both went “... haha.... uNlEsS...?” Then my alarm clock went off.

【Aaravos liveblogs The Dragon Prince】Season 1, Episode 1
(Note from the mun: Probably best experienced by reading it while watching the episode yourself? Unless you have great memory of the episode’s details, I assume. I didn’t flesh out the descriptions of the individual scenes because the following text alone took me more than three hours and is 12 pages in Word already. Sadly, I forgot to add time stamps. I might edit them in later if I have the time but I hope that it’ll be possible to follow the script without them for now.
With that said, have fun!)
*The Intro plays. Magical birds are flying over the waves of an ocean.*
Oh, oh my stars… I’m getting a lump in my throat right off the bat…I can watch Xadia everyday thanks to my arcanum’s ability to see into the beyond. Yet, this feels…different. How long has it been since I’ve walked freely in its wonderful landscape, felt the soothing breeze of the Xadian s-
WHAT THE! HOLY SHOOTING STAR! THAT IS MY VOICE. I – what
*His brain enters a state of frantic confusion.*
????!!!???!! This…this is so surreal. Forgive me but I’m – as you people say – absolutely losing it.
….
……………
That is- I just can’t believe it.
That Is Me! I’m in the Netflix. My voice is actually, really, in the Netflix!!
*He burries his hands in his hair with excitement. His initial fear is forgotten.*
[“…rich in magic and wonder.”]
No offense, but I sound GOOD. I mean, technically I know that. But hearing myself like this is so different from hearing my voice from my own perspective.
*He squeals in anticipation.* This is so awesome.
…
Oh, the music is so sweet…
…
That dragon is…well, I guess I can try to ignore him…
…
…Why is he in every shot? Do we really need him to explain the arcanums? He’s not that great. Believe me.
…
Ok, the flight effect is really spectacular. I have to admit that.
Still, stupid dragon.
…
[“…a human mage…”]
OHHHHH I remember that one *he growls*
…
[“…discovered new magic…”]
Yeah, I bet you “discovered” it. I wonder how you “discovered” it. I’d really like to know. You gotta enlighten me about that “discovery” of yours.
…
In loving memory of those poor birds.
…
OH! OH! OH MY STARS! There I am!! It’s me!!! Hey, I actually look decent for a change. Sigh, I miss my old wardrobe. That scarf was my favourite. So silky and soft.
Also, not to brag, but my hair? Nice.
…
Sigh, poor humans. It breaks my heart everytime I think of the split…
…
Still forever impressed that they managed to draw an actual lava line through all of Xadia.
That’s some true dedication to the cause of hating each other. But I guess if it fuels your ambitions…who am I to judge…you idiots…
…
Oh, Thunder…my cherished…friend…
…
[“But in the eve of last Winter’s Turn…”]
*He inhales sharply*
Oh…this is where the future begins…I have yet to experience what is about to be shown…
…
Unspeakable dark magic? *He rubs his temples, visibly annoyed.* Yeah, I already have an idea what that might have been.
You idiots. All of you. Dragons, elves, humans, all idiots!
…
I’m really carrying myself with a lot of grace in this narration. Good job, future me! I can assure you, that is probably not what I have felt on the inside.
…
Welps, guess there goes your family tree, Thunder. My condolences.
…
[“Now the world stands on the edge of all-out war.”]
I’m pretty sure I smashed my head on the table after that line. Again?! AGAIN?! HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED ANYTHING? You incredible fools?!! You like this, don’t you? This is fun for you, there’s no other explanation. Why else would you imbeciles continue to fight each other like little, immature, bratty kindergarden children.
It’s –ARGHASFADADSF
The worst part is – I knew all of this from the very beginning. Why did I – why do I even bother with helping you…
*He takes a deep breath.*
Calm down, calm doooown… *he hums*
Anger is not good for your soul. You’ll just get bitter and start to come up with horrible revenge fantasies. It’s not worth it. Remember that. Caaaaalm…..
……..
Ok. I’m feeling better.
Let’s continue.
…
Is-is that boy drooling on his glow toad? Poor thing…but that begs the question, why does he let it sleep in his bed in the first place. I would not recommend that…at all. *He shudders.*
…
Oh, that’s a very impressive drawing of a drag-………..marshmallow monster? Really?...well, I guess, that’s…human imagination…very…cute.
…
Yeah no, I don’t think the glow toad was scared…
…
Oh my, that poor guard is dead. So many moonshadow elves? Not a chance.
…
Aaaaand, of course he trips.
…
I’m about to eat my cloak. She let him go.
You might as well turn yourself in as voluntary dragon breakfast now.
…
HHHHeeey!! What’s that greasy dude doing in front of my mirror?
Don’t touch it! I hate it when there are grease spots on the glass.
Well, I guess those humans successfully raided Thunder’s lair. At least I’ll have more sunshine now.
Heyheyhey, I said don’t touch it!
It’s not like you could understand any of those runes anyways.
…
What? He is the High Mage? I have foreseen that the High Mage of Katolis will be important to me. But I expected something…else.
Can I never be lucky? Is that what I get for being so kind, so gracious, so willing to sacrifice myself to help you all? Couldn’t fate be nice to me for a change?
Sigh, guess that’s what I have to work with now.
This better not be too tiring…
I mean, he slew Thunder. That’s something. I guess…
…
Noooo, don’t cover the mirror. My sunshine, remember? At least let me have that. I’ve only seen cave walls for the last couple of centuries. I’d love to have a little change of scene.
Damn.
…
*Harrow rising*
“I woke up like this.”
With perfect hair and perfectly dressed. Ah yes, very realistic. Just like me, every morning. (I’ll never tell you if that’s sarcasm or not.)
…
Oh yes, execute him!
Ok, sorry, I guess that came out a little too excited…*cough*
…
That bird’s nice.
…
That bird’s name is…well, I guess it’s a name.
…
He’s surprisingly calm considering he and his whole crew are about to be violently murdered by moonshadow assassins.
That’s some startouch-level coolness.
Impressive.
…
[“…we must find them today…”]
Yeaaaah, good luck with that…
…
Moonshadow elves are always so dramatic when it comes to their acrobatics.
Yeees, you’re very cool. A real ninja. Here, have a pat on the back. Now go back and play with the others.
…
Please don’t tell me you think veteran moonshadow assassins can’t tell the difference between blood and moonberry juice…
…
Aaaand, you think they can’t. *He slaps his forehead.*
I’m foresing that a great assassin career lies ahead of you. Yes, really.
…
*Cough* Wh-who is this very good looking fella, holy shooting star…
I mean.
Who is this?
He looks important. Like an important elf. Probably their leader.
Yes, that must be it. I just deduced that. I’m very smart.
*The coughing intensifies.*
…
*He sees the necklace.*
Nooooooooo, he is betrothed.
Whyyyyyyy fate. Won’t you let me have anything?
…
Did…did he just fall for the moonberry trick?
You’re very beautiful but forgive me, that was very dumb.
…
This face…my stars…
……………………..
………………….
………..What on earth is going on with me? Focus you dumb, old startouch elf.
It’s not like you to be so easily impressed with others. There’s absolutely no reason for that.
He’s just a boring, average moonshadow elf.
Whatever those weird, inexplicable, mushy feelings in your stomach are, we are done with those.
No more silly touchy-feely emotions.
Ok, let’s get back on track.
Ha, see, you have no power over me, you ridiculously pretty moonshadow elf!
Glad we sorted that out.
…
Yeah, he can see that.
…
That human village looks pretty sweet actually.
I wonder if they sell bread.
I’d love to have some bread now.
Wait, what?
…
Ah, jelly tarts. I remember those. Never liked them. Not enough chocolate. How can they make pastry. Without chocolate. I will never understand.
…
Those are…some impressive lashes.
Apparently modern day humans in Katolis like to put make-up on their pets?
Isn’t that animal cruelty? Is nobody concerned?
…
That toad is definitely smarter when it comes to this whole jelly tart stealing business…
It’s a bit sad to watch.
Well, at least it helped the human kid out.
Enjoy your tarts. Your sad, little, chocolate-less tarts…
…
Ah, that knight looks like a very smart person.
Not.
…
He seems as enthusiastic about teaching the artist boy as I am about working together with the greasy wizard.
I relate to you, not very smart but at least good-at-your-trade knight.
…
Geez, this sword fighting lesson is a tragedy.
I’ve read startouch law books that were more uplifting.
…
Love amongst the dragons? Sigh, really? Such an overrated book. Too many dragons.
Ok ok, the love story part is kind of cute.
I guess.
Not that I would know.
As I have never read it.
…
I want to take a moment to thank the universe for not having siblings.
…
I mean, 300 years is nothing. So she’s kinda right? It’s pretty new?
…
*Slaps his face*
No you can’t do it now. That was a bad idea.
You’re noticing that yourself, aren’t you?
…
Is this how you humans court each other?.............
That explains….a lot….
…
Oh? What? He didn’t really stab you? You don’t say. I thought you were dead for real. What a shocking twist of events.
…
Hehe, pushing around those little figures was always the best part of any political meeting.
…
This conversation is off to a rocky start. Don’t do your children dirty like that.
You are evidently muddying the mood of your kids.
…
We have visitors from Xadia…unwanted visitors…look at mee…I’m the human mage…I’m so important…with my condescending voice…I’m so powerfuuuuul…for I am the human mage…
I feel the sudden urge to throw myself from the highest bookshelf in my library.
…
Yes. Yes, I think you’re an idiot, Soren.
…
[“…You’re saying they’ll kill the king?”]
Yeah right. As if Callum could have heard that down there in the courtyard.
He has human ears, not elf ears. *wiggles them in annoyance without noticing*
…
[“…’unstoppable: is just another kind of ‘stoppable’.”]
That’s…not…what?
My head hurts.
Is this the future of dark magic in Katolis?
I’m very concerned now.
…
14 and three quarters?
……………………………
This kingdom doesn’t need any enemies. It’ll take itself down all on its own.
…
[“Think fast.”]
As fast as you, three-quarter-boy?
…
Ah yes, the moonshadow elves. Their leader is talking. He sounds very distressed.
I mean. They murdered the dragon. I understand. I would be very distressed, too.
…
Uh-oh, no, please don’t bind your lives to-
Sigh……………moonshadow elves are so, so very dramatic. It’s painful.
Really annoying a thousand years ago, still really annoying today.
…
Yes, life is precious. Very good, very well observed. So why do you idiots throw it away with stupid binding curses like that? Your assassin career would be just fine without your silly, theatrical honour codes, that you cling to in order to give your life a deeper meaning but that are ultimately very useless and very dumb.
…
You really had to flex your arm like that just to illustrate the binding of the ribbon, didn’t you, moonshadow leader? That was totally necessary. Sure.
…
Ah….Runaan…that is…a nice name.
Which I just assessed factually, neutrally, in a very matter-of-fact manner.
I just noticed. Nothing more.
…
[“What if they know we’re coming?”]
That’s the face of somebody who messed up big time.
…
[“No, I don’t want a stupid jelly tart!”]
Ah, yes. Finally somebody who gets it!
…
Ok, I have to admit…I feel for them though… Poor children.
…
[“…closet full of moon sweaters.”]
*Bursts into laughter*
Closet full of moon sweaters!! That’s-OHHHH Curses! *he growls*
You got me there. Shame on me. Won’t happen a second time. I promise you that!
…
Flopflopflopflopflop
You know…the sound of the moon moth’s wings…right?
…
Yesssss, dramatic horse chase. Follow the moon sweater moth!
…
Well, guess he just…broke off that engagement.
…
Ohhhh, pretty sparkles!!
See? We’re perfect for each other.
He likes sparkles. I sparkle.
A match made in heaven!
…
Soren, they-they’re right in front of you!!
Is this the amount of effort you put into protecting your kingdom? When it is at the brink of freaking war?! Forget the moonshadow elves, you’re the biggest threat to Katolis’ safety…
God, I’m getting a headache.
I hope your father is a bit...brighter or I might have to let the elves and dragons win this thing.
…
[“You lied to me!”]
Ohhhhh, he’s so fierce when he’s angry…
I would never lie to you! *hums*
Well, because I can’t lie. Which is very annoying sometimes…
…
[“Runaan, I’m sorry!”]
Something tells me that this won’t convince him.
…
[“You let him live but you’ve killed us all!”]
Whoa, Runaan, calm down. She’s a kid. I’m sure that’s not very good for her mental well-being. Cut her some slack.
If this was so important then maybe you should have taken out that soldier yourself. Didn’t occur to you back then? Nope, I don’t think so. Don’t blame her now because you were so bad at planning ahead.
*Shakes his head*
Moonshadow assassin leaders…
…
Oh, that was it? Already?
That was…surprisingly fun. Not the soul-crushing existential crisis I was anticipating.
What does it say here? Next episode in five seconds? Well, I won’t say no to that…
Maybe I should get myself something to eat…
*He gets up, humming cheerfully.*

Props to you for using IkeSoren 👍. Radiant Dawn was full of implied gay, especially in the original text. People still fight over Ike’s sexuality to this day lol
Yes, it was, lol. Personally, I don’t even see how there can be so much debate about it. The writers didn’t put all of that stuff in by accident. I see people all the time saying there’s “no evidence” and that they’re just brotherly and/or very close friends. Yeah, whatever. A lot of people need everything spelled out for them. If something is never made explicit, they just don’t see it. Or they refuse to accept its validity until it’s confirmed by the creator. But with gay pairings, a lot of the time, they keep things limited to subtext on purpose. So all the arguing that it’s not explicit is pointless. If Soren had been a girl, there would be no debate.
If you were writing a gay pairing, but had to keep it ambiguous, it would look exactly like Ike and Soren. And while I wouldn’t argue that it’s as official as Korrasami or something, it’s very easy to see what the writers of Radiant Dawn were implying if you read between the lines. Their two hearts become one? That is not the kind of language you use unless you are referring to lovers.
With anime characters, they’re almost always designed to send a specific message about the character’s personality. It’s why Isa’s design stood out to me so much when I played BBS. He looked like Soren! It was quite a divergence from the whole idea behind Saïx’s original design, which was more Xemnas-like. Isa had a very soft and feminine design. You can tell a lot about a character by the size and shape of their eyes, lips, etc. And Isa’s design sends the message that he’s introverted, intelligent, and empathetic. Cold on the outside, warm on the inside. Still waters run deep. Now it seems like they’re just going to slightly alter Saïx’s cold and callous Xehanort-like personality and make that Isa’s canon personality. Yuck.
Saïx: The marks under your eyes. They’re gone.
Lea: Yeah. Don’t need ‘em.
Saïx: Always told you they’d stop you from crying. The upside-down tears.
It’s why the whole clock tower scene felt so weird and out-of-character to me. Saïx comes out of nowhere and starts acting “friendly”. And look at Axel’s reaction to his comment. I mean, he was practically pouting for crying out loud! He acted like a 5-year-old kid whose older brother told him to stop crying.
I’m sorry but, that’s just not who Axel is. Yes, he’s a very emotionally intense person. But he always hides his true feelings and plays it cool. He can be VERY aloof and VERY cynical. One minute he was happily telling Roxas why the sun sets red. He seemed perfectly happy. But as soon as Roxas looked away, he showed how he was really feeling.
He was always like this. In 3D, Axel broods the entire time after finding out Isa was a vessel, but he said nothing. Before Riku goes to rescue Sora, he smiles at him at tells him “Dark Rescue” is his middle name. Then he goes right back to brooding. He’s brooding when Kairi approaches him to train. He smiles and they eat ice cream.
Look how he started flailing his popsicles around with this exaggerated expression on his face, lol. I can’t see a person as mature as Axel getting so worked up over such a juvenile comment. And keep in mind, Isa was supposed to be the mature one, lol. It’s utterly ridiculous to think he’d say things like this.
I HATE the idea of Lea being this big crybaby and Isa being this emotionless jerk who constantly told him to man up. God, who the hell came up with that? Their relationship wasn’t like that. Axel wasn’t Saïx’s submissive whipping boy. Axel chose to be incredibly patient with Saïx, despite his abusive personality. Because Axel genuinely cared about him. He knew Isa was never like that before and felt sorry for him. He wasn’t afraid to stand up to Saïx. He saw him as a victim of trauma, like himself. He had a hard time being harsh with him, because he empathized with him so much.
After experiencing the tragedy of his past, he’d be the first person to bottle up all of his pain and not shed any tears. I just can’t see him needing Isa to tell him to stop crying. Please. If anything, I can see him giving himself the upside-down tear marks. Emotionally speaking, Axel is tough as nails.
Then, behind him, a door opened. He ran to it, and Axel was waiting. Roxas mumbled his name.
“You really do remember me this time? I’m flattered!” A mean, twisted smile came to Axel’s face as he conjured his chakrams.
He had a twisted smile as he fought Roxas, the only person he thought of as a friend at that point.
“Let’s meet again in the next life.” A dark mist rose around Axel as he spoke.
“Yeah. I’ll be waiting.”
“Silly. Just because you have a next life…”
Axel was breathing hard, his shoulders heaving, as the darkness swallowed him up. Roxas didn’t look away until well after he disappeared.
He was smiling as he told Roxas they’d meet again, even though he didn’t think they would.
“What are you going to do now?” Saïx asked, watching the portal close with no discernible reaction.
“Nothing that’s any of your business.”
Saïx shifted his shoulders. “I beg to differ, if you’re going to betray the organization.”
“…So, are you saying I’m not already a traitor?” Axel smirked.
He smirked when Saïx confronted him after he deserted.
“Our goals are constantly evolving,” Saïx explained dispassionately, taking a step toward his retreating target.
In response, Axel leaped back. “Oh yeah? Huh… That’s news to me. So, what’re your orders this time? You can tell me,” he mocked, as he started to create something behind Saïx. To the naked eye it appeared to be nothing but a black dot.
He’d jumped away for a reason. He just needed a little more time and distance, and the blue-haired man wasn’t the type to attack without any provocation.
“My orders are to take you down!” A heavy sword materialized in Saïx’s hands, and he closed the space between them in one leap.
“…Not the brightest, are you?” Now that Saïx was in very close range, Axel sprang right over him and ran. The setup he’d planted was just ahead now—a distortion in the air steadily taking shape. He knew he had no chances of defeating number 7 in a fight, but he had every confidence in his own speed and cleverness.
He mocks and taunts Saïx while fighting him.
Axel stretched his neck and munched on his ice cream. “You know, I don’t mind disappearing.”
Naminé’s breath caught. Riku stared at him.
“Roxas is gone. When we bring Kairi here, Naminé will be gone, too. So, same for me,” he said, as if he were discussing the weather, and then punctuated his comment with another bite of sea-salt ice cream.
“We don’t disappear… We’re only reborn,” Naminé murmured, perhaps to herself.
“I’m not like you and Roxas,” Axel said flatly. His hand holding the ice pop stick paused in midair.
“But—but you…” She looked down, clenching her fists.“It’s because I don’t have a heart,” Axel went on. “I don’t want to disappear, but I’m not upset or sad about it.”
He munches on ice cream as he talks about disappearing. He talks about it as if discussing the weather.
“Axel!” she cried, jumping up to run after him.
“Don’t worry, Naminé. I’m the fastest the organization had. If I run, they’ll never catch me. Got it memorized?” She stopped short and nodded.
“See you.” Holding the ice cream pop in his mouth, he stepped into the rift.
And he munches on ice cream as he prepares to return to the Organization as a traitor.
“Good to be back.” With a smile curling his lips, he approached them and settled into seat number 8. He held a half-eaten ice cream pop. Pale blue sea-salt ice cream.
“What are you doing here?” The Claymore materialized in Saïx’s hand.
“Foul traitor—”
“No, Saïx,” said Xigbar, glaring hard at Axel.
“What have you come for?” With rage barely contained under every word, Saïx stalked toward Axel.
“Well, if I stay out there, Sora’ll get me, too. Anyway, it looks like you’re having a personnel shortage. How are you gonna get ahold of Kingdom Hearts like this?”
Xemnas smiled as Axel taunted them.
He munches on ice cream again when he returns and faces Xemnas. He taunts them all.
As he went down the halls, he sensed someone following him and turned. “You need something?”
“I don’t trust you,” Saïx replied flatly, the enormous Claymore in his hand.
“Trust? We don’t even have hearts,” said Axel with a twisted smile. “How can we trust anyone in the first place?”
He has a twisted smile when Saïx says he doesn’t trust him. Just like when he fought Roxas.
Then someone else spoke behind him. “I’ve been waiting for you, Axel.”
“Yeah, I figured you’d show up.” His smirk turned nastier as he turned to see Saïx. He didn’t take his eyes off the other man as he spoke to the girl in the cage. “Listen, Kairi! Trust me. I’m going to get you out!”
Behind him, the portal closed. “What are you saying…? Vile traitor!” The great Claymore took shape at Saïx’s back. Axel didn’t waste a second grabbing his chakrams. But his body was reluctant somehow.
I don’t want to disappear… But still, it wouldn’t be so bad if I did. Not here.
He had a nasty smirk when Saïx showed up to kill him. Even though facing him hurt so badly he wanted to disappear.
“Hey.” He was grasping at his chest as he staggered toward Naminé. He glanced up at Riku and summarily bit into the ice cream.
“Ooh, salty…,” he mumbled, and then he collapsed into a chair, his breathing labored.
When he returned after being mortally wounded, he casually munched on more ice cream.
He laughed under his breath and took a bite of ice cream. “Do you need help with that?” Ansem asked him, glancing pointedly at his wounded chest.
“What’s the point? Nobodies aren’t supposed to exist, right?” Axel popped the rest of the ice cream in his mouth and dragged himself upright.
“Besides, this way I’ll finally get to see Roxas again.” He tossed away the Popsicle stick and opened another dark rift in front of him.
“Well, I’m off, Ansem the Wise.” He smiled as he made his farewell. Axel waited. In the shadows of the spaces between, he waited for Sora… For Roxas.
He smiles as he says farewell. He eats more ice cream as he prepares to die.
“Traitor,” Saïx had called him. But his betrayal of Organization XIII wasn’t exactly a recent development, Axel thought with a bitter laugh.
He laughs bitterly as he thinks about the irony of his former best friend calling him a traitor and trying to kill him. The only reason he stuck around in the Organization so long was for him.
“You’re…fading away…” Sora knelt down to peer anxiously into his eyes.
“Well, yeah, that’s what happens when you throw your whole being into an attack… Didn’t have any better ideas.” A smirk curled one corner of Axel’s mouth as he looked up at Sora. Or tried. His sight was already going dark.
He smirked as he lay dying.
“See you, Axel,” Roxas told him.
He looked over his shoulder.
It was a promise.
Like we promised to meet again in the next life. We’ll make another promise.
“See you, partner,” said Axel.
Roxas gave him one last smile and vanished into the air. Moments later, Axel did the same.
And he smiles as he sheds a tear and disappears, believing it to be his final moment of life, ever. Axel was a fucking hardass.
And this is supposed to be Isa’s true personality? A guy who looks down on others for expressing emotion? So much that he constantly belittles his best friend and encourages him to tattoo himself for shedding tears after being traumatized? This is what happens when you try to redeem Saïx instead of bringing back Isa. Look how miserable Lea was when he interacted with him in Twilight Town.
Lea: In memories, you live forever, you know?
Isa: Well, you may be a really small part of my memories, but at least you’ll never disappear.
Compare that to their scene in BBS. Isa made a sarcastic comment to Lea when he said he wanted to live forever in people’s memory. And it was obvious that he was joking. That is just his way of showing affection. He smiled and closed his eyes during this exchange, indicating that he was shy and flustered.Isa was being sincere when he said he’d never forget Lea. And Lea knew this.
Lea: I’m SO flattered.
Isa: You’re such a pain.
Isa’s sarcastic comment made him really happy. Because he also likes to show his affection through sarcasm. And he replied to Isa with a similar sarcastic joke. He was also being sincere when he said he was flattered. He recognized that Isa was expressing his deeper feelings for him through humor. They both understood each other. Lea had the happiest smile I had ever seen on him in the entire series. His whole face lit up when he joked with Isa. Their relationship in BBS bears NO resemblance to the trainwreck we got in KH3.

The Dragon Prince Recap/Review (Season One)
Hey guys, Spaceman here. I know you’re probably wondering where my Favorite Christmas Songs video is by now, or where really any content whatsoever is. Well, the truth is that I spent the first part of this month and most of last month preparing for an entrance audition for a particular music college, whose name I can’t currently disclose (I want to be sure I get in before I talk about it), hence the lack of new content. But that’s all over now, so I’m prepared to get back to work on videos, art, and possibly even music! Yeah, remember when I did music? Anyway, while I’m working on that, I thought I’d write something to keep you guys interested.
Many of you may be aware of this, but from August to September of last year, I really got into Avatar: The Last Airbender. It’s my current obsession and even took the title of my favorite animated series of all time from the previous holder, Gargoyles, which was no small feat. It got to the point where after I finished watching it, I felt a bit of a hole in my life and needed to find something else to replace it. This is when I heard about Netflix’s series The Dragon Prince, which was described as being similar to Avatar, as well as being created by Avatar’s director Aaron Ehasz and featuring the involvement of some of Avatar’s cast and crew. I watched it and… thought it was okay? Just okay, but not great. This month, however, news was released that it was getting a second season, and I was interested, so I figured I might as well watch it again and type out my thoughts. How was it? Let’s take a look.
The Story
The Dragon Prince is set in a world where humans and elves are in conflict. There’s a lengthy explanation for this, which the show thankfully provides at the start of the first episode.
youtube
Don’t worry; you don’t have to watch this in every episode. Anyway, the egg of the dragon king is presumed destroyed, and is imminent war between the elves and humans. As both sides prepare for the war, the elves attempt to assassinate the human King Harrow and his heir, the young Prince Ezran; however, during the attack, fifteen-year-old elf Rayla discovers that the egg was not destroyed, but rather stolen. Rayla teams up with Ezran and his half-brother, Callum, to deliver the egg back to the dragons. Meanwhile, Harrow’s advisor, the mage Lord Viren, is intent on war, and sends his own children Claudia and Soren after our heroes.
That’s just the really condensed version of the plot. During the nine episodes in season one, there is a lot of exposition and a lot of other things happen that I haven’t even mentioned. I would do an episode-by-episode recap for this show, but honestly, they all kind of blend together. Unlike with other animated shows I’ve watched recently, there aren’t really any standalone episodes I can think of. Each one kind of just moves straight into the next, which I guess makes sense for a series on Netflix, a service notorious for encouraging binge-watching.
The very first thing I noticed about The Dragon Prince was that it doesn’t really have any true antagonist on either side (at first). Like, you can’t really say, “Oh, the elves are evil,” or “Oh, the humans are evil.” I was super skeptical when the intro described that the humans were to blame for a lot of the problems, including discovering dark magic and slaying the Dragon King, but the intro also pits the elves in the wrong, showing them banishing all the humans instead of just banishing the few who discovered dark magic.
That leads me into discussing a major theme that’s prevalent at least in season one, the theme of prejudice and tolerance. From the few things that the humans know about the elves, they are painted as horrific killers. Humans think of elves as being bloodthirsty killers—literally and figuratively—and the elves are similarly shown holding stereotypes about humans. The fact that Callum and Ezran teamed up with Rayla was only due to the circumstances; it takes several episodes before they are able to fully trust one another. This is a theme that I’ve also seen done well in another favorite fantasy show of mine, Gargoyles.
Admittedly, a few parts of this story seem rather derivative, such as the six primal sources of magic being reminiscent of the Four Elements from Avatar, which leads me to the next topic…
The World
I will admit that it’s not entirely fair to judge a TV show based on its first nine episodes. Granted, I usually hold the policy that if a show’s first five episodes don’t get you hooked, then you should not be required to keep watching (take note, Steven Universe fans). The thing is, this show did get me interested, and I want to see it continue to develop, because what we have so far isn’t much. It kind of just feels like a standard fantasy world, with elves, dragons, castles, and assorted monsters, which, okay, is a tried and true formula by Tolkien and others, but after the world of Avatar, with its focus on Asian culture, its unique animals, and its nearly steampunk technology, I can’t help but feel like this is a slight step down.
That’s not to say that it’s bad, of course. There are a few things that make it really pop out and feel real. The background art, for one, is incredible. Some of the monsters feel unique, too, like those on the Cursed Caldera—one of them even kind of looks like a graboid from Tremors. Also, I like what they did with the elves’ design here. They could have easily just made them pale humans with pointy ears, but instead they put a lot of detail into it, giving the different groups of elves different skin colors, horns, and having them have only four fingers instead of five. Those are some nice touches.
The Characters
Let’s move on to the characters, starting with Rayla, who is easily my favorite character of the group. She admittedly has a bit of a Zuko thing going on, as she was assigned to hunt down the main characters but turns against her original group to help join the main characters on her mission. Other subtle details are similar, too, like her long-lasting inner conflict with her past and her use of dual swords. That said, her journey is a little different; for one thing, Zuko took nearly the entire run of Avatar to fully go through his heel-face turn, only switching sides halfway through the show’s final season. With Rayla, she joins the heroes in the third episode, which cuts out much of the emotional journey but also lends itself to more interactions with the human characters. She’s much funnier, for another thing, giving her share of snide remarks but also scoring a bunch of laughs when she goes undercover disguised as a human in one of the episodes—can you say, “How do you do, fellow kids humans?” Paula Burrows delivers a great vocal performance, which adds to the character.
Next up is Callum, the main human lead. Now, it’s incredibly easy to draw comparisons between his character and Sokka: Both are goofy, “normal” teenage boys in a world filled with magic, not very adept with fighting but good at planning things. More importantly, of course, is the fact that Callum is literally voiced by Sokka’s voice actor, Jack DeSena. Comparisons… were gonna pop up, is what I’m saying. And I’ll admit that the first time I watched The Dragon Prince, it was super jarring to hear Sokka’s voice coming out of Callum every time he talked. But there are some differences. While in Avatar, Sokka is the most responsible member of the group and the only one with any real degree of survival training, Callum is more inexperienced and callow, not good with a sword and only starting to learn magic. He’s also noticeably more chill and less panicky than the Sokka of season one of Avatar and shows that he can actually draw much better. Though considering Sokka’s drawing ability…
…that’s not really saying much.
Now to move on to Ezran, Callum’s half-brother. I have to admit, of the main characters, he’s probably the weakest, at least to me. I don’t know, he kind of feels a bit flat as a character. All I remember about him is the fact that he can understand animals, which is unique, but he doesn’t really have much of a personality aside from just being your typical kid. I know, it’s not easy to characterize a small child whilst making them believable… though again, Avatar managed to do so well. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t keep comparing these two shows, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t super easy.
Not helping is Ezran’s pet, a glow toad named Bait. As far as animal sidekicks go, I definitely prefer Appa from Avatar; hell, even Momo managed to get a few asskicking moments. Bait kind of just lies around and eats stuff. Several times, he manages to get the main characters into trouble, which I found a little bothersome. The one good thing about him is that his glowing abilities do come in handy a few times to temporarily blind enemies, though… I’ll get back to that later.
The trio is pursued by siblings Soren and Claudia. Soren is a young knight and a bit of a dumb jock but has a heart of gold. Claudia, meanwhile, is a nerdy mage who comes off as a bit awkward. They are always fun when they are on screen and have a believable relationship. It’s also worth noting that early on, Callum is revealed to have a crush on Claudia, which… oh boy, let’s hope the shipping discourse in The Dragon Prince’s fandom doesn’t get as bad as the Avatar fandom. I can already see a potential clash between the Claudia/Callum and Rayla/Callum crowds. (Full disclosure: I’m on the Rayla/Callum side.)
The other characters were cool, too. For as little time as we got to know him, I liked King Harrow, Ezran’s father. Even for his cringey dad humor, he was an intriguing character. It’s hinted that there was a lot of stuff in his past that we don’t know about, like his involvement with dark magic. Also intriguing was Lord Viren, Soren and Claudia’s father. It’s easy to see that he was once good and still has some good in him, as shown by his friendship with Harrow, but he has been corrupted by his use of dark magic and is too far gone. Finally, Aunt Amaya, Callum and Ezran’s deaf aunt who’s a solder on the frontlines, was another character I wound up loving. It’s rare that we see people with disabilities get good representation in animated series (another thing I loved about Avatar with the blind character Toph).
But okay, if we’re going to talk about this show, then I might as well bring up the one criticism that every other critic has already made about it. You know exactly what I’m talking about.
The Animation
Yes, among all the mixed reviews of this show, one consistent criticism was the animation. It seems to be CGI, but is going for a 2D, hand-drawn look; unfortunately, the way the pull it off is not necessarily the greatest. Take a look at the trailer for an example of what I’m talking about.
youtube
No, your computer is not glitching out; that is the framerate they went with. And this choppiness is something that seems to be a trend with certain CGI shows outside of this one, with Rooster Teeth being the most notorious offender. If they really wanted to make it look 2D, they should have actually animated it hand-drawn. Doing this just pulls me out of the moment. (Oddly enough, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse does something very similar with its framerate, yet I don’t have any problem with that movie doing it.)
To be entirely fair, this is something that Aaron Ehasz has acknowledged. Apparently, season one was given a very low budget, and he has promised that season two will have a steadier framerate. Judging by the trailers I’ve seen for season two… yeah, it already looks way better. Also, with my second watch of season one, I found it much easier to look past. Maybe I was just used to it by then?
Assorted Other Stuff
Warning: This section goes into minor spoiler territory. I would highly advise not reading past this if you want to remain spoiler-free when you go into season one. Got it? Alright.
One other complaint I have had is the comedy, which is really hit-or-miss in a lot of places. As I mentioned before, the scenes where Rayla is disguised as a human are hilarious, and some of the snarky dialogue is also witty as hell, but there are other moments with awkward puns and some potty humor that just feel forced to me. There’s one scene in episode six where Callum is obviously having an erotic dream about Claudia, which seemed unfitting for this show… though to be fair, Avatar also had its share of adult humor.
See also.
Another awkward tidbit is that twice, when Ezran is about to use Bait’s ability to blind his enemies, he says the line, “Say hello to my little friend,” an obvious shout-out to the classic 1983 gangster film Scarface. My question is, why is that line thrown in there? Are most kids going to catch that reference? Call me strange, but regardless of what adult fanbase this show will capture (which, let’s be honest, it will), I highly doubt its target audience is watching Brian De Palma films.
Though maybe they should be.
Speaking of strange homages… well… take a look.
Your eyes don’t deceive you. Rayla is doing the infamous Naruto run, where you extend your arms out behind you as you run forward. And she and the other elves do this run multiple times during the show, too. It is neither practical nor particularly cool-looking, so I don’t know why this was done in the original show, and I genuinely hope this was only meant as an homage, because… again, it’s really damn silly.
The soundtrack of this show is rather nice, I will say. It’s not as memorable as Avatar or Gargoyles’, but I did find myself humming the end credits theme song after finishing watching. Speaking of which, during the credits, we get some cute drawings of the characters, some of which connect to the episode, others are apparently meant as foreshadowing for later episodes and plot points. If you watch this show, definitely do not skip the credits.
Now, as for stuff that I hope for the new season. I would like to know more about the cube that Callum and Rayla found at the winter lodge. It seems to have some kind of connection with the Primal Sources. Also, the mysterious magical mirror, I hope we can find out something about that. It was foreshadowed pretty heavily in episode eight, so I doubt they won’t do anything with it. Speaking of magic, I’d love to see Callum do more magic in the new season. It probably won’t be more wind magic, since he destroyed the sphere to birth the dragon, but Callum clearly has potential to become a great mage. Also, I would love to find out more about King Harrow’s past, as well as more about Callum and Ezran’s deceased mother, the Queen. We see Viren and Amaya mourning her by her gravesite in one scene, and Callum drawing her in another. How did she die? What was she like? These are all worthwhile questions for season two, or for future seasons after season two depending on how long the show goes for.
Conclusion
The Dragon Prince is a worthwhile watch. It’s nowhere near as great as Avatar or Gargoyles yet, and it is still clearly paving its own identity, but I still find it enjoyable enough and feel that it has potential for greatness. My main criticisms would be to up the animation quality and to develop the characters more, though my guess is that both will already happen in season two, which will be dropping later tomorrow, February 15.
But yeah, you have my attention, show. Don’t screw it up.

The Dragon Prince Theories regarding the Teaser Trailer
So I’m going to say this much, I am not going in order of trailer or teaser, rather it’s in the order I have the pictures of regarding what I saved, so please forgive if this seems confusing to you because the show is coming up fast and I wanted to talk about this as quickly as possible.
So we open the Teaser trailer with the Castle on the rocks in the sunset. Now normally this wouldn’t be a big deal but with the idea of a war brewing this is a very striking image. Typically in story telling Sunsets either indicate the fall of a life and a change, or in this case, possibly the indication that a war is coming thus the flames of destruction are upon the kingdom. It’s also interesting that the design of the castle hearkens to some Medieval landscapes, but the interior of the castle is very much in the style of King James the ruler of England just after Queen Elizabeth I.
King Harrow and his team of guards. This is clearly probably after the talk with Viren in his room. The color scheme shows that it’s late and we see that he’s dressed for battle. The sun is setting again, which could be either a clue that the sun is setting on his rule, or that he’s not long for this world, or the world is about to change, or more likely that he’s heading into a battle he may not win. His face says that he’s not happy about this, but he’s serious and is keeping that in mind. I should note that guards that are with the king are typically hand picked based on trust by the ruler that they are guarding. It all comes into political play and who has your back and won’t kill you and is tough enough to keep you safe.
Now this is an interesting shot. Soren’s role as a knight holding that blade is rather important. In “ye old’n days” roles that were given to people in the court and to knights were rather important to how they were stationed in society and who was closest to the king or queen. The ones that helped the ruler in the toilet and in his or her room were considered the closest and the one that had his or her ear the most.
Now with Soren here we have a knight that is holding the king’s blade, which is really an honor and something that indicates that Harrow has a lot of trust in Soren. Why is that? Well normally the blade of the king is held by someone that he or she wouldn’t fell would be a danger to them. In this case Harrow doesn’t think that Soren would back stab him, and probably this is the case, as Soren is holding the blade away from him in a resting position, and his hand is not near the hilt, showing that he trusts the king and that he respects his rule. This also means that Soren was at some point possibly squire to the King himself, which puts him in a rank position that other knights probably are jealous of.
Soren is bowing and humbling himself to the kin. Again this ties in with the above about showing a great amount of respect or faking it. One or the other in this case.
Alright a few things here that is important. Firstly Harrow is holding the blade in a resting way, showing that he’s not doing things for ceremony or show. This means that he’s going to put it away on his person and use it. Secondly the look he gives the sword shows that he’s thinking about what Callum asked him about earlier in the main trailer (because I’m sure this comes after that moment) and it’s clear that he’s taking note about the role the blade will play in the fighting. Thirdly and I think this is significant here, the X shaped mark on the hilt, where the guard meets the blade, that’s the mark of the royal family as Ezran has that on his belt and it’s in a lot of places in the castle. It’s also very very much like a Celtic knot, though I’m not sure of the meaning behind this one. I know various locked knots show a connection to wisdom and strength but in this case Not sure. Maybe like a version of the cycle of life with infinity mixed in there?
Edit: It’s Anglo-saxon runes. the X side mark means Day.
So we get a shot of Marcos being held by the throat by Rayla. I can only guess this is going on after he, or someone else, went and shot an arrow at the Moon Elves in the forest and she chased him down.
So she’s got him by the throat and he’s scared. My guess is she either knocked him out, or put him in the bag we see in her and Runaan’s fight later. Either way I suspect he’s the one that starts her off on her quest to go after the king.
We get a quick shot of Hooded Rayla. Showing that she’s trying to be intimidating at this moment and doing so rather well. I should note that unlike Runaan and a few of the others, she’s got no tattoos or paint on her, making me wonder if she can use any magic at all.
Her eyes look dead here, which again, I think has a point. I don’t think Marcos killed anyone that we’ve seen in the Moon Elves group but I don’t know. Thing is that she’s is well and truly angry about something personal at this point. This has to be early in the series even. We barely can see her markings around her eyes.
Okay so remember what I said about King James and decor. Well this is what I’m talking about here. The style is very much a cross between Elizabethan era design on the walls, having tighter windows, but they’re higher with more in line with renovations that show something along the style of King James when more luxury items were being put into the castles. As Callum is walking down the carpet we can see it’s matching the Kings color, meaning that this is the royal family’s banner colors probably. You also have the knot on the floor meaning that it’s probably Harrow’s family’s symbol. I also have to note that the windows have iron or lead lined X’s to give the touch of a later period in English history, since that wasn’t heavily used till after Elizabeth as far as I know. Though someone correct me if I’m wrong on that.
One other thing, the suits and the torches which are on the wall along with the flowers and such. This shows that the King does care about the upkeep of the castle and the flowers show he’s also a man that cares about beauty and nature.
Birds eye view here gives us more of a look of the open space windows showing a deal of light that is used because of the limited light from the lack of electricity. the hints here with the art work on the wall, show this is again past the point of tapestry being used and paintings are taking on a different role than just denoting the family. It’s now being used for beauty, talking pieces and probably used for entertainment, ie. having people discuss and debate about the work and the location it’s showing. Also the art on the tables does this as well.
First shot of Callum, it’s interesting that he shares the same green eyes as his stepfather. Also as most have noted, there’s a bit of Merlin in that outfit.
Rayla sneaking up behind him. There’s something interesting on the bracelets that she wears. Again it has a bit of a Celtic feel to it, which makes me think some of the influence in this story may come from the English, Scottish and Irish wars that happened before and During James rule and still have issues. What’s interesting here is that she’s sneaking around in broad daylight and following Callum, making me think that she was trying to get information out of him, maybe where his father is.
Okay this scene. This one is a biggy. So there’s a lot going on in this moment, and I have to point this out because man, in one shot we have a lot going on and a lot defining these two characters at the start of the series. So on Rayla’s side we have the clouds being calm, soft and round. Typically softer looking images are used visually as clues that the person in question is a novice, or someone that has yet to be in the center of real grim fighting. Also it shows that possibly she’s come to a realization and that she probably has to deal directly with him with her own new conviction. It’s interesting too that she’s angry and looking ready to fight and crouched down.
Runaan on the other side of things is far different. You have storm clouds with spikes and sharp angles. Typically this would mean that he’s a harder character, one that is also holding in a lot of anger and probably frustration at this point. We see him standing straight and tall, rigid almost, like he’s a wall she has to knock down to get past. He’s being stubborn, no mercy will come from him. But the thing is that while her clouds are calm, as if she’s made up her mind, there’s no doubt in her heart, no issue that she has to do this. Runaan’s clouds are all chaotic, which may indicate that he’s doubting his mission, that he’s confused or conflicted and probably hurt, thus the whole issue there.
It’s really a striking scene. And I’m probably wrong about part of it, but I tend to read into things.
Oh one other thing, there’s a bad near the wall, and I’m not sure what or who is in it.
Direct shot of Runaan’s face. Like I said above, calm on the inside but probably a tempest storm inside. Also there’s the fact that we again see more inspired Celtic imagery in the silver shoulder pads and the horns. Hern the hunter, one of the bigger gods in the lore of the Celts was a nature god that had horns, and the fact that we have the Moon elves have horns that are like wood, only adds on to that association, along with the green color. What’s also interesting is that he, unlike Rayla, has markings on his form, showing that he probably can use magic. There’s also the hair thing going on there that’s interesting.
Rayla got bit, probably by Bait, and it’s clear that she’s ready for a fight with him. She’s also showing her anger on her face, but the clouds are calmer and rounder in design. More than likely she’s fighting him to allow her and the others to get past so that they can go on their mission.
King Harrow and Pip, I think his name is Pip. This is after he got the sword from Soren. I live the fact that we see more red and gold banners on the wall, showing the indication that the colors are his and the Royal families. What’s also cool in this is that, Pip has this green color to his black, which is very different. Also Four poster bed with cloth cover means that they are not living in a climate that is constantly warm at night. Since the covers are designed to keep the heat in.
He speaks to his friend, who nuzzles him, “This may be the end.” To me this is not a happy sort of tone, it’s like he’s resigned that there’s a chance he may die in this fight, though he’s going to try not to. Or it could be that he knows they may lose and thus the end of the war in that they fail, or possibly that they win, but it doesn’t seem like he feels that way in the tone of voice.
Okay this part of the teaser is clearly tied into later with the Main trailer where Claudia is following them, and Callum winds up using the orb to do wind magic. My guess is that Ezran is talking to Claudia, or maybe some guards, and offers them a Jelly tart, trying to take attention off them. Or this is with either another elf or Rayla and he’s offering it to her.
Again there is that symbol like on his dad’s sword. I really think this is some sort of royal crest or marking. Though what it means, I don’t know yet. (See above about the X mark meaning Day in Anglo Saxon Runes)
Ezran probably talking to his dad, Viren, or Callum while holding Bait. I think this maybe outside, though this could be in the throne room. There’s a lot of light there and the carpet is clearly worn.
Rayla attacking the guards who are probably trying to defend Callum. What’s interesting in this shot is the speed that she moves and that this bearded guard is everywhere. Wonder if he’s a nod to any of the crew.
Okay so here’s the thing that I find really interesting here. Rayla flips over these guys, and forces them to turn to face her behind, meaning that she’s in front of Callum. So either she’s protecting Callum and these guys are working for Viren, since this is clearly daylight hours, or she’s going to deal with them first and then take Callum on, forcing him to flee into that study room we see in the main trailer.
So about this magic. Upon looking up a few things, the runes that Callum draws are similar, not the same but similar, to runes that are used by norse, and they mean different things. Clearly this is meant to look like the wind that is blowing a ship, or blowing in general. I do think that there’s some ties to various runes but not sure where or maybe calligraphy from japan or china in this case.
Okay so this is apparently an important location or episode because it’s used a lot. The wind magic is clearly blowing someone back. We can see blue purple crystals in the background, and bait is glowing to light things up. I don’t know where Rayla is, but at this point they have the egg, so I’m guessing this is against Claudia or a guard. Also you can see like a bunch of houses in the background that are made of stone, so...
Okay so I find this interesting. So Runaan has a bruise on his cheek. The reason I point this out and the one above it is that we can see a tracker or a warning thing, attached to a red string. We later see the Arrow become a bird of sorts with that tracker on it. But the reason I’m drawing attention here is that Runaan is clearly pissed off. He got beat, probably by Rayla and knocked out, as he has a possible black eye there too.
So the arrow that Runaan let’s fly, as you can see in his other images the arrow has that band with the metal medalion tied to it. It’s certainly a tracker. Once the arrow is loosed it starts to glow in the moonlight, meaning that the magic needs to be in the light of the moon here. As you can see it lets out smoke that takes the form of a bird and explodes into light.
Now about this bird we see flying. I’m still trying to figure if it’s following the trio or if it’s going to warn someone or something? I find it interesting that this is a means of either having communication or just straight up signal like flair.
So apparently this is probably connected to the whole attack on the dragon King. It’s an interesting thing that we see female warriors out front. What is interesting to me is the ruins the land that they’re on. We know that the King Dragon comes out of the volcano. So this is probably a flash back moment that Callum and Ezran may either be listening to or learning about from Harrow. I want to know exactly why the humans attacked the dragon and the details behind this. My guess Lord Viren or someone connected to him probably took the egg and that’s why this all started to happen in the first place.
The battle in the castle. What’s interesting here is that it’s all in the dark, and I have to wonder if the others can see or hear Callum i this moment. It’s clear he’s crawling on the ground. We can see Soren and Viren in the background, which means this is probably during and around the same time that Runaan eventually fights with Rayla. So maybe they’re trying to get something from that room we later see them in? Seems like the Elves broke in.
So Bait can glow and explode. It seems like this is not connected to the later moment with Rayla and Callum being caught in the flash. What’s interesting to me is that this is something Ezran knows about and probably uses often to get out of being in trouble when caught possibly taking Jelly Tarts. What’s also interesting about the color glow and the fact that Bait lights up like that sort of reminds me of a frog that was discovered last year to have illuminating properties in Argentina.
This happens under Uv light and moon light. IN both cases with Bait he lights up in dark places and where there’s some form of connection to the moon. IE Rayla, which is interesting. I wonder if he stores the power. Also if you notice it’s more of a prism effect.
So I’m not sure if this scene and the one above are linked, but it’s an interesting moment. Rayla is not ready for it, and neither is Callum, but Callum seems to have had it happen to him before because of his automatic reaction to closing his eyes. So my guess is that Bait has gone off on Callum before and he’s gotten used to deflecting it, unlike Rayla who seems caught up in the blast. Either she’s arguing with Callum, or this is later when the trio is doing something before they become friends.
So this is an interesting thing here. Claudia creates smoke wolves from a single candle, which very much reminds me of how Izumo Kamiki can summon her two twin foxes. The thing is I think she’s in the room where the Egg was, and that Callum is attacking these two wolves with wind. I have to wonder if she can call on other animals or if the Wolves are her only companions.
Regarding this battle. You see the clouds in the background, they are attacking one another the same way Rayla is attacking Runaan. The movement of the two characters are matched by the action in the sky and the dramatic use of the visuals compliment the color variation that show the differences in their attacks. You can see Runaan clearly has his blades in a connecting way. Because you can see his arm behind him free of a weapon.
So apparently their powers come from the moon and the glow of the moon transforms them into Drow like beings with their marks glowing. I wonder if it adds to their magic or just makes them stronger or harder to hit, or what? I have a feeling that, much like the Drow that exist in D&D the moon light may be used as a means of feeding lost energy or also empowering them in a way that can double their physical strength.
As for our Friend the dragon King. What I find interesting is that he has fur like feathers here. This is very different to the more traditional pure on lizard dragon we see in Western stories and has hints of eastern dragon here. I especially like the use of colors with white and the orange red of the volcano. What’s also interesting is the fact that he’s able to actually stand on the lava. Given he has electric attacks, it makes me wonder if the colors are connected to the various powers of the dragons.
So the next one that is coming out is on the other trailer, since this was getting too long.

Hector/Ike C-A Support
Written by unfo11owmep1z
C SUPPORT
Hector: Bah! Eliwood is spending way too much time with Roy nowadays…So does Lillina! What am I to do with them…I might aswell be dead to them, right?!
Hector: …I’ve had it. I need to get my mind off of things…Enough of this! Tell me….is there anyone in this castle willing to fight me?!
Hector: …..
Hector: Grr, of course this isn’t going to work. I should probably take a calmer approach…
Ike: (…I heard shouting. Is there some kind of commotion going on..? No…I probably shouldn’t interfere. I’m sure the veterans around here could quell it. I can’t afford to dawdle around if I am to meet with the others…)
Hector: …Hm? Hey you—! uh, I mean…Hello. Care for a good one-on-one figh—…I mean, uh….chat?
Ike: …? Oh. I’m sorry, but I must be elsewhere. I have people waiting for me.
Hector: Well if it isn’t just my luck—Fine!! It’s not like I needed anyone to….Huh? Hey, wait—! let me just take a look at you for a second…!
[Hector lunged at Ike who was walking away, tugging at the back of his collar.]
Ike: Ack–!? Wh..Wha…?
Hector: Y…You…! You look familiar…Aren’t you…That legendary guy that commander Anna once told us about….?
Ike: …Don’t grab onto me like that. I frankly have no idea what you’re talking about, and I don’t really have the time right now either. So if you’ll excuse me, I must take my le—
Hector: Hey! not so fast!
Ike: Argh—!!
Hector: There’s no need to be humble you know!! I think I remember. You’re a rather recent recruit aren’t you? If you’re from one of the newer worlds we’ve been to, then you must be from the World of Radiance. I should welcome you! The name’s Hector.
Ike: …You have quite a grip don’t you..? I’m Ike. Commander of the Greil Mercenaries. And this very “commander” is about to meet with his mercenaries, so I must hurry…Until then.
Hector: Geez….this guy wants to play a cold game with me, eh? But I’m not really in the mood for that. There’s one last thing I still need!
[Hector grabs onto Ike’s cape this time around, and pulls him with even greater force.]
Ike: Whoa—! What the—?!
Hector: …Hey. I know you’re busy and all, but Anna said something about you being the Radiant hero, the strongest from all worlds, and I’m intrigued. You’re kind of smaller than expected, but intriguing nonetheless! You could at least let me know when you are—-
Ike: …Alright. You have dragged me back for about three times now…
Hector: ….Eh?
Ike: Look. If you are so insistent on keeping me here, then I think I should oblige. I can’t afford to get pushed around like this. Let’s get this over with. Draw your weapon…or run while you can.
Hector: Hey….from the look on your face, it seems to me like you’re up for more than just a spar…
Hector: …Heh! That’s more like it! This is just what I needed. A little bit too much is just enough for me. Now…Bring it on!!

B SUPPORT
Hector: …Hey, Ike! Over here!!
[Hector frantically waves at Ike.]
Ike: …You called for me?
Hector: Yeah! it’s me, Hector, remember? Uh…listen…I…should apologize for my behavior from last time…I might’ve gotten carried away, so, uh…Sorry for being so pushy.
Ike: …No, maybe I should be the one to apologize. I lost my patience, and…we….really got the scoldings of our lives from Titania and Soren….
Hector: Ha! I guess so. I must admit, that tactician of yours sure is something! He’s such an eerie looking guy. How and where did you even get to know a fella like that?
Ike: Uh…well. The war just costed him a bit. I knew him from when we were young. He can be a hardy one I’ll admit, but he’s been invaluable to the Greil mercenaries. Please, be easy on him.
Hector: Really? Huh…Friends at a young age…Was he a spooky creeper like that back then too I wonder…?
Ike: Hey. I heard that. I just told you the war costed him, didn’t I…?
Hector: Ha ha! Sorry, I’m just messing around. If anything, I’m impressed that you were able to befriend a guy like that! I wouldn’t have been able to crack open such a cold shell in a life time…
Ike: ….And that should be a compliment? Right. I think I’ll take my leave. Goodbye.
Hector: W-Wait–Ike! Blast!! I’m sorry okay!? I just needed to apologize to you–I won’t say anything about him again, honest!
[Ike, just after turning around to walk away, stops to look Hector in the eye. Then calmly proceeds to speak the following words:]
Ike: …..Fooled ya’.
Hector: W-What!? Why you…!!
Ike: …Heh. Are you satisfied now..?
Hector: Hey…That’s a smile if I’ve ever seen one! It’s the first time I see you smile like that.
Ike: …I seem to hear that one a lot. It sure has been quite the eventful day, hasn’t it? We started on a rather rough note, but uh….Nice to meet you. Hector, was it?
Hector: Yeah! Well met, Ike.
Ike: Likewise. I’m glad we could meet under better circumstances. I also never knew you were a noble, actually. The way you were so eager to fight would make me think that you were a knight or even another mercenary….
Hector: Ha! Guilty as charged. I’ve always preferred swinging an axe over diplomacy. I’ve never been much of the sophisticated nor the refined type.
Ike: I see…Well, that’s fine. I’ve never been good with fancy things or fancy people either way…Such is the life of a peasant sellsword like me, I guess.
Hector: …You talk as if you’ve seen it all. But on the other hand, you’re on high demand and get challenged a lot by others, don’t you?
Ike: I suppose. I can’t deny that I had a lot of soldiers come up to me. Sometimes for advice. Sometimes for a fight. Sometimes just to test me.
Hector: Test you? in what way?
Ike: Yes, Well… I went through a long time where I was practically looked down upon. It took a while to gain some respect. I was told that I looked like a rookie. Well, can’t say I don’t agree with them.
Hector: Huh. And yet, here in Askr they can only brag about you. So what’s the truth?
Ike: Well. I remember there being this woman once ago, who came bragging to me about her powers and skills, and how suited she would be for our army. She eventually asked to see the army commander, so she could be granted permission to join us. Not knowing that the army commander at that time…was actually me.
Hector: Oogh. That’s rough.
Ike: Ha, yeah. But it gives you an idea on how overlooked I was. Not that I mind, I’ve never been much for popularity.
Hector: Oh? Is that so…?
Ike: Yeah. Although now, I suddenly walk around getting praised and requests from many who look up to me…It all just feels strange to me. Might also just be part why I prefer to train alone. I focus a lot better, but it also just feels more…natural.
Hector: You don’t say….Is that why you wanted to run away the first time we met? You could’ve just said something.
Ike: …I was preoccupied with duties, Hector. Anyway…even though we were both heated, I really enjoyed our fight. You have so much power…And I was rather surprised to see you handle an axe so well.
Hector: Hey, I taught myself by often sneaking out to fight in the ring, so I’d better be good at it! But I guess you don’t see many axe lords walking around here, huh.
Ike: I applaud it. The way you swing your axe about is making me nostalgic…My father used to wield an axe too, you know. Urvan.
Hector: Really? Well, who would’ve thought!
Ike:..Ah, he wielded a sword before that however, before he s—…oh….nevermind.
Hector: What was that? It felt like you were really onto something, don’t shy away now!
Ike: No, It’s nothing….
Hector: Why would you bring it up like that, then?! Hey…Don’t tell me… Do I per chance…resemble your father…?
Ike: W-what!? ….Uh….Well….That’s quite the claim….But that’s certainly not the case. You…couldn’t even compare to him.
Hector: Hey! What’s that supposed to mean!?
Ike: M-My bad, I’m just trying to say that the two of you look very different, that’s all. Though no matter how I look at it, no man could match to his caliber. He was stern, but ever so benevolent. He’s a great man.
Hector: Bah! I could act the part too! And I mean…don’t I look like you, though?
Ike: Uh, I’d say….you look more like…….
[Ike suddenly falls silent and closes his eyes for a moment.]
Ike: …..Mother……..
Hector: ………..
Ike: …….
Ike: …..Wait– no–! It was just–! your hair and—! I only meant by the eyes and hair color!! S-sorry, I’ve only just realized how weird it—! Ugh, it came out a lot worse than I thought it would….
Hector: ……Phhfff….heh…..Ahahahah!!!
Ike: Don’t laugh! Stop…please forget what I just said…
Hector: Haha–! No no, it’s fine! If anything, I’m…just laughing because I’m…! I…I can’t help but picture a very muscular mother!!! Haha–!! Oh, I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time!!
Ike: W-what!?! You!! …And here I thought I ought to feel bad and apologize to you for blurting out something like that…! If you’re just going to keep on laughing then I’m just going….to go!
Hector: Ha-haa–W-wait..! Ike–! Come back!!
Hector: snrrk!…Well well… I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ike so red before…I can’t tell if he’s either angry or embarrassed!

A SUPPORT
Hector: …Hey, Ike! Good job out there. You really held it down on the battlefield.
Ike: Ah…Thank you. You too.
Hector: ((Oh. Finally decided to speak to me after pairing up so many times…))
Hector: Uh… say… are you still mad about last time…?
Ike: ….I was never really mad.
Hector: Really? You’re saying that with such a serious face though….
Ike: Oh, sorry. I’ve been told that I frown a lot. It’s a habit that never went away…But really, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.
Hector: Then, if all is well…Tell me. Why did you…mention your mother like that?
Ike: ….I can’t even recall how we got to her in the first place since it’s been a while. Why? Do you suddenly feel insulted because of what I said?
Hector: No! It’s just…I couldn’t help but notice that when you spoke about your mother, you had this kind of…heavy look on you. It wasn’t until you decided to start a panicked frenzy, that I started laughing it off, thinking you were just embarrassed about loving her too much or something.
Hector: But…There’s more to it, isn’t there.
Ike: …Huh. I didn’t think you were capable of paying that much attention to detail.
Hector: Hey, don’t change the subject!
Ike: …….I’m sorry.
Hector: Wha–? Don’t apologize! Although…I wouldn’t mind hearing more about this, you know?
Ike: …That’s why I’m apologizing. I can’t tell you.
Hector: What?! I practically came all this way to get an explanation though!
Ike: …Well, I…even if you wanted one, I couldn’t tell you even if I tried. I…don’t really remember much of her either way, and…the things I know about her, I don’t want to believe.
Hector: Woah, what? Wh…What is that even supposed to mean?
Ike: …..
Hector: Hey….Did your mother….die…?
Ike: …..Yes. And it’s the way she died that I don’t want to believe…
Hector: What?…How did she die, then?
Ike: …It’s complicated. And truthfully, It…it hurts just thinking about it. Part of me refuses to look back on it. But perhaps it’s better that you don’t know. I…Out of respect for my parents, this is something I should keep as a trademark secret between the Greil Mercenaries….I’m sorry.
Hector: …Sheesh. A family secret? You mean to say it’s really that heavy…?
Ike: ….I’m sorry.
Hector: …Alright. Enough apologizing. If it really hurts that much, I won’t ask anymore. I just wanted to let you know….you’re not the only one.
Hector: …My parents…they died too. Their illness took them before I got to grow up….
Ike: ….That’s just the thing. I always thought my mother died of illness while I was young, too. Until I learned about her real death through another source. From a hired assassin.
Hector: ?!?…She was assassinated?!
Ike: No… It’s not that simple. He only came to deliver the story. He was never behind it, in fact, it was only aft—- I…I’m sorry. I’ve…said way too much already…I’m so pathetic.
Hector: …Hey, no need to blame yourself. I don’t know what’s going on, but I guess I shouldn’t have asked. Although I also had to deal with shady assassins in my own continent and what not….
Ike: ….I suppose I’ve heard something about it. And…that you wield a curse….
Hector: …? Oh. You mean Armads, don’t you. Yeah…Guess It’s no secret by now…..
Ike: …..My father…….H-He……He’s……..
[Ike begins to tremble. He bows his head and exhales sharply.]
Hector: …..Ah, geez—-Stop it before you end up crying!!
Ike: ……
Hector: ….Blast. And here I thought I could make up with you…To think I’d be seeing you in such a sorry state…Kind of unlikely from the Radiant Hero, don’t you think?
Ike: …Of course I’m nothing like that. And If you’re uncomfortable, you can just leave. Unless you find it amusing to see me like this….
Hector: What are you saying!? Sure, I may look like a brute, but I’m not heartless! And as gruff as you are, I know that you are just as vulnerable as anyone else. That’s why I came to see you.
Ike: ….I see….Sorry. Maybe…it’s best you’d leave me be for a bit….
Hector: Hey, come now. I just told you I came to see you, didn’t I? And then you’d want to chase me off?…No more of that. Lift your chin up. Please.
[Ike stood around silently. Then after letting out a deep sigh, he proceeds to face Hector.]
Ike: …You know…Most people would just let them be when someone asks that they want to be left alone…
Hector: …Well, I guess I ain’t like most people then. But the things we’ve been through are unlike most people either…Although mine’s probably not as bad as yours from the looks of it, but still.
Ike: …Are you really that concerned about me…?
Hector: …Again, you’re acting like I’m some kind of monster! I mean…why wouldn’t I be…? I might not be the best at comforting, but there’s no way I could leave you alone after seeing you so pained. You need to be looked after. So I absolutely refuse to go away.
Ike: ….Thanks. But there’s no need to worry. I can’t afford to let this wear me down. I’m still standing on my feet, so honestly…I’ll see it through. I’ll be fine.
Hector: ….Well, you’re the boss then. But listen, I only wanted to say…I’m sorry for what happened to your parents. I know how awful it feels without them, but you can depend on me when the going gets tough. I mean…I’d hate to see anything happen to you. When my parents died, I only really had my brother and Eliwood to talk to. I don’t know where I’d be without them. So…I want to be there for you, too. I get how you feel, but don’t push yourself.
Ike: …I’m not…Though I can’t just be expected to stand still and keep on dwelling, can I? I’ve got responsibilities to hold, and for that I must be strong…Sure, looking after the Greil Mercenaries gets tough sometimes, but… There’s no place I’d rather be. Besides, I still have Mist, and the mercenaries treat each other like family, despite having no blood ties. It’s not so bad…But I appreciate it, Hector…Seriously, I’d say you’re doing too much for me.
Hector: …It’s nothing. If you ever decide to sulk, I’ll give you a shoulder to lean on. Hell, I’ll even let you cry in my arms if you need to. I’ll make sure nobody gets to see you break down. I’ll keep you safe.
Ike: ….Heh. Alright. I’ll keep your offer in mind. But I already feel a lot better after talking to you. I…It’s good that you decided to stay with me. Guess I owe you one, huh.
Hector: …Hey, It’s no trouble.
Ike: …Ha. I have a lot on my plate, it’s true. But if you know my appetite…you know I’ll finish it.
Hector: …Heh. Good on you, Ike.
Ike: Either way…Let’s leave it at that. It’s been long enough don’t you think? I find that there’s no need in moping around any lon—-Woah! Hec—!?
[Hector is seen hugging Ike, burying his face into Ike’s shoulder.]
Hector: …Well, even if you don’t need it, I sure need it. You know…the time my parents died, I wanted to do nothing but cry. But I couldn’t cry in front of anyone. Even alone, I still couldn’t. I just couldn’t. So…just grant me this favor. In return, I’ll pretend nothing happened today. We’ll put all of this beside us, and fight along side by side like we usually do. How about it…?
Ike: Hector….
Ike: …Alright…If you insist, I trust that you can keep your word. Promise me you will.
Hector: …That goes without saying, Ike. This goes…for both you and me…and for both family we have lost and family we have left.
Ike: I….Thank you, Hector. You have my gratitude.
Hector: ….Ha. I thought I’d never hear you say it.

here it is.....3000 words of zelgius headcanons
“There was someone on my father’s side who was...who was with a laguz.” This was many generations ago, and the brand skipped Zelgius’s father. It isn’t until Zelgius is born that his father learns the truth about their family, so his resentment towards his son becomes twofold: both because of his nature and because of what his birth forced into the light.
---------------------------------
We don’t really know Zelgius’s socioeconomic status. I don’t think he’s necessarily gentry, but remember that this isn’t Ashnard’s Daein but his father’s. There wasn’t the same kind of “meritocratic” system in place, so Zelgius must have been someone to end up trained by one of the Four Riders. He was probably some sort of minor nobility, probably new money, rich enough to have a big country manse but unimportant enough that nobody cares what the family does (unless it’s embarrassing enough for gossip).
------------------------------ Baby Zelgius had a wet nurse who was sworn to secrecy. He then spent his childhood being bounced around Daein’s most conservative monasteries and, eventually, military academies. Every time he got settled in somewhere, his father would yank him out and start over, terrified that the child would be careless and someone would find out his shameful secret. Too disgusted to keep his own child in his house, too afraid of shame to disown him and cast him out into the world, too sentimental—or perhaps just not quite evil enough—to just drown the boy and have done with it, no one seemed to know what to do with the child.
Quietly—very quietly, for he was a precocious and shy child even without the extenuating circumstances—Zelgius learned what the strange mark on his back he had to twist and contort in the mirror to see actually meant. How dirty and tainted it made him. What his father was saying when, on the rare and desperately treasured occasions he’d walk with his son, he’d bring Zelgius to the gallery full of paintings of slaughtered laguz and speak too loudly of glorious deeds.
Ultimately, Zelgius’s family, and his mother in particular, just wanted to forget he existed altogether. They had another heir, a boy born five years almost to the day after Zelgius. The boys look nothing alike. The brand never manifests in him and, emboldened by this, his parents go on to have several other children. Clearly, something was just wrong with the first one, if the tainted blood only runs true in him. Zelgius is kept separate from his siblings. If they ever think it odd that their oldest brother never writes or comes home for holidays then, well, it’s hard to miss even a sibling if you’ve never even been allowed to meet him.
His grandmother had the brand as well, but she had incredibly difficult pregnancies and all her branded children were stillborn. Perhaps, unbeknownst to either of them, her husband had a touch of some kind of incompatible laguz blood in him as well? It’s just such a taboo, particularly in Daein, that neither of them would ever have spoken of it. There, it’s a worse taboo than incest. And even in the wider world it’s so buried and shameful that no one has done any research into it. Branded blood is supposed to bring bizarre strength and unnaturally long life, so what about this case caused so many stillbirths and miscarriages? Who knows.
Sharing the same unlucky star did not necessarily endear Zelgius and his grandmother to each other. In what turned out to be her final years, she was a cold and distant woman, having lived too long in a world that she was all too aware did not want her. Her brand caused two husbands to leave her, and Zelgius’s birth necessitating the revelation of their family history turned her only child against her as well. She didn’t hate Zelgius, no, she just…had nothing left to give. The family never left Zelgius in her care, either, and she died before he was old enough to even want that kind of connection with her or put together what they had in common. He does realize as he grows toward adulthood, though, and always makes sure to put flowers on her grave on her birthday and the anniversary of her death.
Despite his brand manifesting in infancy, Zelgius grows more or less normally as a child. Small for his age, some delayed milestones, but not remarkably so. His aging doesn’t really slow until late puberty. For the final time, he’s yanked unceremoniously from his current school, only this time he’s not enrolled in another one. He’s an adult now, technically, no matter how young he looks, and so he’s no longer welcome in his family home. With nowhere else to go, no graduation, no commission, no money, only a name that barely belongs to him, Zelgius enlists in the military as a grunt. It’s Daein—they might smirk, but no one will question the age of a lad so eager to sign up, not when there are laguz to hunt and Crimean borders to harass. He dons the armor they give him. He won’t take it off in public for a long, long time.
------------------------------------
Does Greil know about the Branded, and if he does, did he at the time he knew Zelgius?
We really never get any indication one way or another. The best indication is that Greil has given Soren—who several characters mistake for a child as young as Mist or Rolf—a full-time job even as he holds back from giving his seventeen-year-old son any active role in the group, implying that he knows there’s something different about him.
Even then, though, I bet he didn’t know anything about the Branded when he was a Daein general.I don’t think we have any reason to think that Greil was remarkably more liberal or whatever than any other Daein citizen—not any more than, say, Pelleas, who doesn’t have Shinon or Soren’s vitriol but still says Branded like a dirty word and doesn’t shy away from saying “sub-human.” Pelleas knows what Branded are, indicating that it is sort of general knowledge, but Pelleas is also a spirit charmer, so he’d have had suspicion thrown at him before.I just don’t think laguz issues were anywhere near Greil’s mind until he goes to Gallia, apart for maybe some general disagreement with Daein’s gung-ho prejudice, since Greil’s generally a Respect Life kind of guy even if I don’t think he’s introspective enough to overcome that kind of ingrained prejudice. Sure you might call it a casualty of narrative, but I’ve always found it fairly damning that at the start of Path of Radiance Ike is out here getting information about laguz and the world from _Shinon _of all people. One doesn’t retroactively become a saint just because one fathers Our Hero.
In all likelihood, Zelgius just wasn’t that special to Greil. Or at least not nearly as close as Zelgius’s fixation makes it seem at first glance. Maybe Greil did see promise in him and teach him one-on-one, but Zelgius almost never showed his face and, I’m sure, balked on the occasion Greil extended an actual hand of mentorship or whatever. And it takes Greil a while to remember who he is by voice alone. Some part of Zelgius knows this. It changes nothing. A few kind words and rough-and-tumble lessons were enough to make Greil the closest thing to a father Zelgius would ever know, and Zelgius fixated on him because of this. But Greil had A Lot going on with Elena—that’s a whole fucking lot of trust she put into him to tell him about the medallion and flee the country with him, a fucking Rider—and the complete shift in values and perspective that fleeing the country would require, so it’s no surprise that even a favored student would become an afterthought. -----------------------------------------
When it comes to Zelgius’s age, there are few markers to draw it from, even fewer than we have for Micaiah.
For starters, we know that Path of Radiance takes place from 645-46, and the Serenes Massacre happened in 625. The foundation of my speculation relies on the headcanon that the whole reason Sephiran was even in Daein at the time was because he was the sage that created the blood pact that made Ashnard king.
The flashback has to take place in late 625/early 626—before Daein’s plague starts, before Gawain leaves Daein, but after the Serenes Massacre. Zelgius says he “would miss studying the sword with [his] master, General Gawain” if he left with Sephiran then. But Sephiran’s already got ~plans~, which he only began after the Serenes Massacre snapped him. Zelgius might’ve pushed his luck, might’ve stayed for years more, even, if Gawain hadn’t left. Hadn’t abandoned him. And he would see it as an abandonment, even if he knows logically that they weren’t that close, that Zelgius hadn’t allowed any closeness, that Greil hadn’t _wanted him—_anyway. There’s nothing left in Daein for him.
The “plague” probably killed his parents, honestly. Maybe even a sibling or two. Zelgius has a hard time feeling sorrow about this when word finally reaches him. The hollowness he feels at the news only furthers his certainty that he is cursed. Evil, intrinsically. Unable even to grieve for his own mother and father. Despicable. Detestable.
(Sephiran regrets a lot of things, in the end. But there are a few lives lost through his actions about which he just can’t summon any feeling but savage satisfaction.)
Pretty much arbitrarily, I headcanon that Zelgius is in his late teens/early twenties in the flashback, just because of his demeanor. Old enough to have noticeably slowed aging, young enough to still be learning in earnest. Which would have him born no later than about 605. So yeah, Zelgius is probably in his early 40s by Radiant Dawn. -------------------------------
627. Ashnard becomes king. Zelgius, bedraggled from the road, at loose ends, lost inside himself, shows up on Sephiran’s doorstep. It’s a big year for the plan.
Sephiran doesn’t become Prime Minister for 13 more years. I’m sure he spends the interim staying out of the public eye, moving pieces here and there, sowing discord, helping laguz as an “anonymous benefactor” as Misaha’s acts force change despite the Senate’s best efforts. He maneuvers Zelgius into position to inherit the tiny fief of Cador, which is far enough out of the way that no one will ever question it and close enough to the Daein border to mask the accent Zelgius can never quite kick. Lineage safely falsified, Zelgius works his way up the ranks of Begnion’s army. Work and ambition take up most of their time, but they both spend a lot of time in Sienne. Zelgius has stopped aging almost entirely, but he’s at the age where it’s not quite so noticeable, except for the occasional offhand comment about his skin care routine. Sephiran, of course, also does not age, though he has no mark of his curse that Zelgius can see. He asks about it once, which gets him only a wry smile. Sephiran asks how much stock he puts in legends. He pauses. He asks how much Zelgius hates his great-great-grandfather, the raven who gave him this “cursed” life. He pauses again, then laughs the most terrible laugh. Zelgius doesn’t ask again.
Little by little, Sephiran tells Zelgius the details of The Plan, and Zelgius learns of his true identity. Sephiran stops always hiding his wings around Zelgius. It’s not for the reasons Lehran is used to that Zelgius wants to fall to his knees in worship.
Sometime in this interim is also when Sephiran and Zelgius are traveling Crimea and Gallia looking for the medallion and discover what Greil did to the village and Elena. Ike and Mist are probably, what, six and four in the flashback? So it probably takes place in like 634. Just shy of a decade since Zelgius’s master “abandoned” him. Seeing him again, even unconscious and covered in the blood of innocents, at the side of a new master he’s sworn himself to in a thousand different ways, still brings unnamable emotion swirling up inside him. He’d give anything to stamp it out, to quiet the voices demanding to know what would have been if he had swallowed his fear and accepted the hand extended to him then.
(It would have ended the same, the exact same, except Zelgius would have bellowed in grief and rage when Alondite parted Gawain’s ribs instead of letting the body fall to the forest floor with nothing but a murmur of hollow disappointment.)
It’s then that Zelgius fixates on matching himself against his old master. Oh, he’s had the thought over the years, idly, in practice, that he wonders how he’s matching up to the best swordsman on the continent. But it’s not until he sees the destruction Gawain is capable of and the grief he causes that it becomes an obsession.
If he had been there, could he have held his own against Gawain’s rampage? Could he have stopped him, stopped that day of tragedy in its tracks? Not that he’s under any illusions that he’s some kind of hero, fit to protect a village of innocents from a rampaging madman. But just to _know. _Just to know if he’s capable, at all, at any point, in any way, of changing the path of fate.
Lekain says that Sephiran was considered a young upstart at the time he became Prime Minister. He, like Sanaki, was meant to be a figurehead, after all. So Sephiran couldn’t have gotten fully involved in politics until like 638 or so, probably. --------------------------------
640. Sanaki is crowned. Sephiran is instated. Zelgius is promoted to Major General, one step away from high office. Zelgius’s further appointment sometime in the next 4 years is the subject of much gossip. He’s so young, after all, there must’ve been more qualified candidates? I hear he doesn’t even go to temple all that often. Well I hear he defeated thirty-two challengers in a single day. He’s so handsome, does it even matter if he’s any good? It’s not like anyone’s going to defeat Begnion regardless. Well, if you heard what I heard about what he and the Prime Minister get up to behind closed doors, well…
Sigrun goes a long way towards helping Zelgius acclimate. She probably doubts the story that he’s a country lord, but she’s too polite to challenge it, and Zelgius seems like a good enough man. He’s an ally of the Prime Minister’s, and the Prime Minister is a good and holy man, a pillar of faith and protector to the little Empress second only to Sigrun herself (third, if Sigrun’s wife is in earshot). She takes the initiative and goes to Zelgius when it becomes clear that he’s the runaway candidate for Grand General and takes the first step towards what will be a long partnership for the two sides of Begnion’s might. --------------------------------
643-44. Ashnard is gathering the strongest warriors from across the continent for his inner circle. Sephiran hasn’t laid eyes on the medallion in almost ten years, but with giddy certainty he can feel Yune’s first stirrings, even a continent away.
Zelgius would never refuse an order. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t tearing apart inside as Sephiran instructs him to return to Daein under the alias of the Black Knight, and gain Ashnard’s favor. What did he do wrong? Why is his master discarding him? His world has tilted on its axis, and he can barely hear Sephiran explaining how vital this is to the plan through the rushing of blood in his ears as his heartbeat tries to burst from his chest.
Return to Daein.
Abandoned, again, it might as well be a death sentence, Zelgius wishes it was a death sentence—
Sephiran’s firm, gentle touch forces Zelgius’s clenched fist to open up for Alondite’s hilt and breaks Zelgius out of that drowning spiral. The abnormal lightness of such a large blade, its perfect balance, the tingle in his fingers and up his arm from the energy pouring from the sword—this strange combination of sensations breaks through the fog.
Altina’s blades aren’t anything like Excalibur, and nor are they Falchion or Forseti or Tyrfing or Mystletainn. Wielding them requires no bloodline nor special quality, and it’s only tradition that’s left them gathering dust in Begnion’s treasury.
Zelgius insists that he has never fought with double swords before, that this is too generous a gift, that one is enough, too much even.
“Please, take both. I would hardly wish you to be in a place as dangerous as Nevassa and unable to defend yourself. You may do with them what you wish. Take them for my peace of mind.”
As tightly as Zelgius is gripping Alondite, Sephiran knows that there’s no chance they’ll be mistreated. He is amused when the mercenary child shows up wielding Ragnell. Zelgius always did have a flair for the dramatic. Altina would have appreciated that. She would have appreciated a lot of things about Zelgius—his poise, his moments of shyness, his dogged loyalty. And she’d never begrudge Lehran taking another lover and had, in fact, encouraged him to do so once or twice in the letters they exchanged in the long years between their separation and her death. It’s the manipulation she wouldn’t appreciate. Give him something or set him free, she would command. She’s right.
But Sephiran just can’t do it.

Risk
Up came her shield right before the fire hit...but then it skipped off her. Turning, she watched the wall melt and her heart skipped a small beat. No fear in her gaze, no look on her features, she turned back to Ikara and noted the way the world bent to her calling. If she did turn on Chance, that wouldn't end well. So she started to walk to the side and put a closer distance to him; counting that he could hold off.
"Beta might come looking for ya, Ikara. Can you imagine if he did? What they'd do to him? " Her glove flexed around the handle of her sword. "He has a gift with tech. They'd break him. Just like they broke me, yeah? Remember that? Still got that carved on me."
Closer still and keeping a steady distance to not draw attention; her hand poised near the trigger behind the shield. "I know you don't want to do this, yeah? Come home."
The Vanguards certainly kept Chance busy, but the first one fell to a crumpled heap, leaving him to deal with the other. It drew Ikara's attention enough that she pulled at all the lightning aether in the destroyed mech before it powdered down. Each time Helene spoke about Beta her aether flickered just for a moment. It was enough to disrupt any longer and more complex spells, but didn't stop her from lashing out, "SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH!" A bolt of lightning shot straight for Helene.
There was something cracking in the veneer of calm and nearly sociopathic behavior of the auri girl.
With the first machine destroyed, Chance took the fight to the remaining Vanguard. He didn't know the girl, he didn't know this Phoenix, and saying anything at all would likely undo what efforts Helene was taking. A soldier through and through, he focused on the tasks he had and let her focus on hers. As he fought he sought the remaining Garlean, trying to make sure he kept an eye on him so he did not slip away. No one was going to report back if he could help it, assuming they somehow won. Whoever this Phoenix was, Chance owed him a drink. Helene's use of the name might well be the difference between life and death for them.
Again, she lifted the shield to absorb the arch and the bolts ripped through the metal that wrapped her. Sparks danced off pauldrons, gloves and boots as the insulation below kept it off her form; though her hair lifted a little for it.
She shook it off and eased off the trigger. "They came for you, yeah? Everyone. All of 'em. And they wont stay down, Ikara. They are comin' for you again. He will be there with them. Yuti, Soren, Lloire, everyone." She took a few steps towards her and flicked her gaze to Chance. Then tossed her sword to the dirt. It fell with a thud and she kept her shield; choosing to hold her hand out. "Come on. Come back home with me. It's Starlight, yeah? Don't ya want to curl up with Beta and enjoy it for once?"
Chance continued to fight with the Vanguard, and it eventually fell, but where it fell, the Garlean realized he wasn't getting out alive and came to attack him. He would rather die by a sword than by that weapon's magic.
A viscious sneer crossed her face, "Yea, they came and they failed and ran away. Too late now. I'm where I belonged from the start." The mention of startlight had her aether sputtering and she shook her head, grabbing the side of it then her eyes lit up and she ripped the mask off, pure disdain in her eyes, "I don't need Starlight. Fuck Starlight. Fuck you!" Now the aether really started to gather. She was cracking, but it was making her start to overload instead of stop. A huge arcane symbol spread over the circle of earth and whatever it was that was about to fall on their heads was going to be nasty.
The mercenary was simply glad to be done with the mechas and was glad to oblige the remaining Garlean. He wanted to shout at Helene, having seen that look before on other's faces. He'd give her until his last foes was dead before he tried things his way. As much as he wanted to shout at her to remember what she'd promised, drawing attention to himself was a tactical error he just couldn't justify.
During this exhange she had made a key motion. Stepping closer to where Chance was and then stepping closer to Ikara. All of her anger and focus was drawing into that attack and unless she wanted to stop and try again, she was going to keep it.
Down Helene went into a crouch before her feet dug to sand and she pushed herself into a sprint -at- Ikara. The sword was added weight. She had to drop it. The ground she had been on was too soft, she had to move. And now her finger was on the trigger of the magitch device tucked away behind the shield and if Ikara stayed her ground to burn her down, as she guessed? Then the barrier was going to launch up like a wide disc while she sought to either knock the girl straight off her feet in a solid hit or hope the magic would echo off it and do the same.
The Garlean went down without much of a fight at all. If anything he had been seeking his death. Chance had plenty of time to see Helene launch herself at Ikara.
For her part Ikara was absorbed in the spell. It was huge and took a lot of focus. The air wavered and shook and even those without aether senses could feel how wrong the air was. Chance could see the aether spiking off of the small auri, but not just that... it was leaking off of her in waves. She could have been a star unto herself with how much she was drawing in her anger. The shield came straight into contact with her horns and the backlash of aether from the spell going awry sent ripples through the air collapsing the earthen walls and knocking them all to thier backsides. They would recover much quicker than Ikara though as her small size and slight frame lent to her physical frailty.
Chance ended up on his ass but after half a heartbeat and realizing he was neither ash nor missing any limbs he jumped back to his feet and rushed over to where the Auri girl and Helene were. He twisted the blade in his hands, ready to bring the flat of it down on her skull if she so much as moved towards either of them. He had to fight off the urge to vomit from the amount of aether in the air but forced himself to keep his lunch. However it had worked, somehow, their plan seemed to have succeeded.

“Soren” is Sufjan
She sold off everything she owned and moved across the county to get away from the insanity that he and his friends were participating in at her expense. She’s arrived with two bags, into an empty apartment. All her funds have disappeared with the expense of relocating and she’s still not able to focus well enough to work the hours she needs to pay her bills. Luckily she has kind neighbors and they have lent her a couple of wooden chairs to sit on. She goes into overdraft to order herself a mattress that she puts on the floor.
She stays away from looking at the blogs, hoping now that he has no direct connection to her life any longer he has lost interest. She does her best to pull focus on starting over in her new home. She’s no longer on any social media but she decides to start a dating profile. She doesn’t really have the emotional presence of mind for real dating but she’s hoping to make some new friends in her new city. She also starts a blog for her old travel stuff that’s not connected to any of her contacts, so there’s no trail back to her. Very quickly she realizes he has found both accounts and is watching them. Very quickly she finds more blogs dedicated to her and it’s clear he has access to her phone once again.
It becomes obvious (he likes to leave little clues, just like arrogant serial killers who don’t believe they’ll ever be caught) that he has used the same hack to get into the phones of her friends and family and he picks her new phone number up that way. She resets her phone to factory settings and changes her number and provider, again. (This is something she has to do at least 10 more times.) Now she is using a Google Voice number instead of a phone and no one, not ever her parents have her real phone number.
He begins to send her messages from fake dater profiles he’s created. She feels utterly defeated. No one will help her. Nothing she asks of him directly has any impact on his destructive actions. (In the past she has started blogs to ask him directly what it is he wants. She even started sending herself text messages she knew he was reading. Shockingly, he would respond to the messages on his catfish blogs!) Everything he responds with he turns into a riddle, further demonstrating the fact that to him this is a fun game, he has no concern for the pain he is causing her and nothing will make him stop, short of him finally being sent to prison for his abusive and relentless invasions of her privacy.
She answers the message of one of the dating profiles that was clearly created by him. Conveniently, this character is out of town for a month or two, so there’s no chance of a real life meet up any time soon. In the meantime they can just “get to know” each other. They message consistently for over a week. She begins to tell him the stalker story (never giving Sufjan’s name) in a last ditch hope that if he hears again how this abuse has been effecting her it will sink in and he’ll finally give it up.
He drops little clues that lead back to his blogs and his real life identity, to keep her engaged, I guess? For example; the character’s name is “Soren” and when she says something about the name, this is his response:
I guess he comes with a sword............................................?
"Soren” tells her a story about when he was a child in Mexico and found himself in a ring of fire after a baseball game. Suddenly he was in the middle of his own exorcism…?? "Soren” offers to send her a picture of him a few days after the exorcism. He sends her a photo of Sufjan when he was a kid! Remember, she’d never mentioned Sufjan’s name.
"Soren” abruptly stops communication by saying, “I don’t think I can be your friend if you’re not wholly with or completely without your stalker.” WTF??? She calls “Soren’s” number. The guy she speaks with calls her crazy and delusional and tells her she’s being fucked with.
The next day one of his catfish blogs that writes as if he’s her, posted this: (She’s tired of him putting words into her mouth and feeding his own delusions that she somehow enjoys this attention, so she leaves the comment below it, in case he hadn’t gotten the point that she wasn’t into his bullshit when she decided to leave the state of New York to escape his insanity.)
This blog has changed its url many times first it was tselane42, then ttclovespad2015, then piscessunlibramoontaurusrising, lovenolimit2.tumblr.com, and it’s now under the url tselane2017,tumblr.com
She also found this disturbing tidbit:
Then on the main blog he has been using to harass her over the last two years (was previously mermaidsbite.tumblr.com) he posts this:
She had reached her inbox limit on the dating site, so now people had to pay $1 if they wanted to message her so she wasn’t getting many messages. but then suddenly the night this post turned up she had gotten 10 new messages in her inbox, most likely they were all him.

Unspoken, but Written | Ike (Fire Emblem)
Do I regret writing this? Kind of. I don't know what compelled me to write this. Ike won the voting gauntlet, I should be writing fluff for my precious boy. But here I am, hurting him. Wow what a life. In all honesty though, I've always wanted to write something canon for Ike, but like, I haven't played PoR since it came out, so my memory is really fuzzy. OTL. Sorry if it's out of character fam.
The first time you looked my way was the first time I held a sword again. I wonder why that is. *** "Ike." The call of his name was soft, almost a low whisper, and when he turns around, his strategist is approaching him. A look of concern is noted on the mage's visage, and Ike frowned, "What's wrong, Soren?" He opens his mouth to explain, but instead he sighs the moment he hears the shouts coming from where they have set up camp. Ike raises an eyebrow and Soren mumbled, "You'll understand better if you see it." Soren walks away first, expecting Ike to follow, and he does. But as they approach camp, the sound of sword clashing sword is heard, louder than ever. And he's surprised when he sees you dancing around the bonfire with a blade in your hand, keeping Mia at bay and also preventing her from approaching you. Mia's face may have been set in a grimace, but the light of pure exhilaration and excitement that shone in her eyes was evident enough that you were a worthy opponent. You didn't hold back against her, regardless of the fact that everyone knew you were skilled with both blade and staff, you played a more supportive role rather than an active one. So to see you holding a blade rather than a staff was a sight to behold, and Ike found himself captivated with the scene before him. "Give!" Mia shouted after dodging yet another lethal strike. Your entire figure tensed and froze, almost as though it was a still scene taken from a movie. But as soon as Mia drops onto the floor with a sigh, you pull away. Both of you have a fond smile on your lips and she laughed, "You're really good [F/N]!" "Thanks," you chuckled. With a flourish, you sheathed your sword, and Mia mumbled, "I can't believe you'd choose to be a valkyrie though." Your eyes widened slightly, and you sheepishly scratched your neck, "I learned swordsmanship to survive, but if you asked me, I'd rather heal people then afflict wounds onto them." You took a quick glance at Soren and Ike, and you whispered, "But of course, if our commander and strategist will me to, even I will take to the sword." Ike is surprised by your loyalty to the mercenaries. You joined just shortly after the revival of Serenes Forest, a wandering cleric at that time. And yet, you've already taken to the group like a fish to water. You noticed his gaze, and immediately you give him a small smile. But your attention on him was nothing more than a fleeting moment as you returned your gaze to Mia. "I didn't hurt you, did I?" "No, not at all!" Mia takes your hand that you offered and you pull her up effortlessly. She lets out a sigh and whined, "Aren't you tired?" "Me?" you asked with a tilt of the head, you shook your head, "Not at all. I've gone through more vigorous endurance training before." "Is that so?" Mia mumbled. Your hand was no longer holding hers, but she couldn't forget the roughness that indicated the years of practice that you had.
The day I learned more about you was also the day you were borne into this world. I wish you had told us sooner. *** "Mia wasn't kidding when you said you were strong," Ike grunted as the two of you exchanged blows. Your stance had changed just slightly, but you weren't physically strong enough to overpower Ike. With both height and muscular weight superior to yours, the only reason why you haven't completely been mowed over was the fact that you had grew up learning how to beat people like him, to defeat trained soldiers like him. There was a wild, almost feral smile on Ike's face as he exchanged blow after blow. Soren watched from the side, analyzing both of you at the same time. And immediately Soren pointed out, "Ike, don't focus on your strength only." "Yeah?" Ike takes a leap back, and you mirror the action. Ike was fast on his feet, and he was also used to exchanging heavy blows one after the other. Something you were once used to, but not as much after picking up the staff. You clenched your teeth and your grip on your sword tightened. "You up for another round?" Ike asked out of courtesy. You took in a deep breath, calming your body and mind, and you smirked, "Yeah, what about you, commander?" Ike furrowed his brows, "Can't you just call me Ike? There's no need for those formalities." He launches forward, and you dodge the strike by twisting your body out of the sword's path. You make your own attempt to strike at the opening presented before you, but just as you swung down your blade, Ike's blade swings upwards, knocking you completely off your feet and into the air. There was a moment of shock on your face before you regained composure, flipping around and landing neatly on your feet. Immediately, you ready a guard stance just in time for Ike's next attack, and he asked, "You've been trained well." "Surviving in a world like this is hard, sir." Ike blanched, "Like I said, don't call me that!" With a final grunt, Ike pushes you out of the way with brute force, and you skid backwards, almost tumbling right into Soren if you didn't find your footing fast enough. You get up and mumbled, "I think I'm done for today." Ike frowns, and before he can ask if you're alright, you smiled reassuringly, "And I'm fine, thank you. I've experienced worst back in my training days." But your happy expression drops as soon as you realize the slip of your tongue. Soren and Ike glance at each other, and he asked, "Training days?" You hesitated, and Ike can tell from the way you gnawed at your lower lip that you were not fond of the past at all. But after a deep breath, you admitted, "I was once a knight of Daein." "A knight of Daein?" Soren repeated, and you nodded, "I grew up under the shadow of my father, a previous knight of Daein. After noticing that I had exceptionally fast reflexes, he had forced me to learn as soon as I was capable to walk and hold a wooden sword." The bitter smile on your face was evident as your grip on the sword tightened, "I resented him for it. My existence became his, his to mold for his own, to regain whatever previous glory he once had as a knight of Daein. He had hoped that one day I could become one of the Four Riders of Daein. But.." Your voice trailed off weakly, and you mumbled, "4 years ago on this day, the same day my father had believed I would finally be able to enter the ranks of the knights, I committed suicide." "Suicide?" Soren frowned. You were very much alive now, and you nodded, "It was shortly after my coming of age ceremony that my parents had held for me. I disappeared off to the local river with nothing more than my staff and a small knife, and I had convinced my good friend to help me fake my death." "But why?" Ike frowned. You give him a small smile, "I wanted to find my own life. I had lived as my father's puppet for years, and had known nothing about what there was in life outside of holding a sword and pledging loyalty to a kingdom I did not love. I didn't love Daein as much as my father did, and perhaps I came to resent it because my father only had love for his kingdom and naught for mother and I." "Your mannerism and fighting techniques all make sense now," Soren grumbled, and you nodded, "I was planning on informing you soon after joining your ranks. But there was much going on, I couldn't find the right timing. Forgive me." Ike's eyes widened, and after exchanging a slight glance with Soren, he said, "You don't have to apologize, [F/N]. But more importantly, today's your birthday?" Your eyes widened, and you nodded, "Yes. It is." "Then we should-" "It's fine," you laughed it off, and then you mumbled, "I'd prefer not to remember today's meaning." Ike watched as you slowly walked away. The trembling in your shoulder was obvious, but against his own gut, and from the way Soren had slowly shook his head, he didn't. But looking back, he really wishes he did.
You love him, don't you? I do, but I will never tell him such a thing. For I am unworthy. *** Mist watched you with interest as you went around healing your side of camp. She had finished those assigned to her, but she couldn't help but watch the way you and her older brother interacted. There was a comradery and friendship between the two of you that she noticed no one else really has with her brother. She frowned and Titania gently pats her shoulder, "What's wrong, Mist?" "Don't you think brother and [F/N] are really close?" she asked. There was genuine curiosity in her eyes, and Titania's gaze slowly shifted over to the two of you. There was a light in Ike's eyes that she's never seen before, and she couldn't help, but nod in agreement. "They are, aren't they?" Mist agreed, and she murmured, "I wonder if [F/N] likes him." "Well, I don't see why Ike wouldn't be liked, he is our commander after all. Albeit a bit clumsy with his words, and rather fearless and perhaps reckless, he's still a good person," Titania fondly noted. She watched the way Ike was able to bring out a genuine smile from you, and she teased, "If you're so curious Mist, why don't you ask Ike directly?" "I would, but I don't think he'd even know, maybe I'll just ask [F/N]. She promised to train me a bit more on sword techniques on a horse," Mist happily chimed. Titania raised an eyebrow, and Mist added, "I can't ask Ike when he's never done any horseback combat." "Quite true," Titania chuckled. Later that night, after training, Mist is slightly slumped in her horse saddle. You trotted over and patted her back, "You okay?" "Yeah," she gives you a small smile, and she mumbled, "I just forget how much balance is required of me." "Yeah, it's a bit to get adjusted to, but you'll get a hang of it soon enough," you smiled, "You have talent after all." "Mm, it's probably because brother and I are related, huh?" Mist mumbled. But you shook your head, "No, I was thinking you're skilled as well, I wouldn't acquaint it to your brother. Just because Ike is strong doesn't quite immediately equate to you being strong. But both of you are strong on your own accord, not simply due to one being strong meaning that the other is strong." Mist is a bit surprised, and then she giggled, "I see. Thanks [F/N]." "Anytime, Mist," you laughed as you got off your horse first. You offered her a hand, and she shook her head, "You're so nice to everyone. It's no wonder you fit in so quickly." "That's good then, it's always good to get along with people," you hummed as she took your hand. Mist slowly got off her horse and she asked, "Is there anyone in particular you get along with more?" You hesitated, and Mist nudged you playfully, "Come on, you can tell me can't you?" "W-Well, t-that's... that's a personal thing," your voice trailed off, and Mist notices the slight tinge of pink, and she asked, "You like him, don't you?" Your eyes widened, and you sighed, "I should have known his younger sister would notice it sooner than he would himself." "Why don't you just tell him?" "We're in amidst of a war, Mist, I can't do that. And besides..." Mist notices the way your shoulders slightly dropped, and there was a sorrowful tint in your eyes as you gave her a weak smile, "Someone like me? With him? It's impossible." You walked away, and Mist feels like she touched upon something she shouldn't have. She wishes she apologized, she really wished she did.
Perhaps I should have told you sooner. But perhaps it was for the best I did not tell you at all. For it is one less heart breaking loss in your already wounded heart. *** "Mia, fall back!" you commanded as you rallied your horse over to the other side of the field. There were far too many soldiers, and the reinforcements were almost never ending. Mia shook her head weakly, although the fight in her eyes were far from burning out, her body was not made for a war of attrition. You furrowed your brow as you casted yet another round of heal over her and the rest of the mercenaries within the vicinity, and you muttered, "There are far too many. But if we can thin out enough of them, then we should be able to escape safely." "If you're telling Mia to fall back, then all of us need to," Shinon grumbled as he ran past you. You frowned, and muttered, "We all need to fall back." "Indeed." Soren's voice surprised you, and he said, "All of us need to fall back, there's far too many. This ambush was unaccounted for, and there are villagers near by that may be caught by collateral damage." Everyone exchanged weary glances before all of them nod in agreement. Soren starts issuing orders, although the quiet male may not have had a loud voice, his words carried a heavy weight to them. You lingered in the back, making sure all of them were ahead until you heard a weak cry of help from the forest side of the clearing. Soren heard it too, as you can tell from the surprise that flickered in his expression. You exchange a glance with him, and he bit his tongue. No. He wanted to tell you no. He still had so much he wanted to ask you. There were so many things he wanted to know, things that he knew you've seen or heard. After all, you and him were one and the same. He watched helplessly as you spurred your horse towards the direction of the cry of help, and he could only pray that you came back in one piece. For you, the darkness meant nothing. After all, you were always able to see clearly in the dark, it effected you in no way, shape, or form. But today, it felt like it was going against you as you tried to pinpoint the plea for help. But soon, the sobbing and tears were ringing in your ear as you approached the river. A teenage boy was cradling a small girl in his arms, both of them shivering from the cold winds and clearly part of the escaping villagers as far as you can tell. The adults were huddled on the opposite side of the raging river, clearly panicking about what to do. The shaky wooden bridge had 2 platforms holding it up over the river, and one platform had completely collapsed, leaving the children stuck on your side of the river. You frowned and looked at the river, then at the children and the adults. All of them staring at you, waiting for your movement. "Hey," you softly called to the children as you dismounted. Your horse follows behind you loyally, and you mumbled, "Can you two stand?" They both nod, and you said, "I can get you guys over the bridge, but you have to trust me, okay?" The adults' gazes were both desperation and anxiety. The nervous tension in the air was palpable, and you wanted nothing more than to get this situation over with. As soon as the two children nodded, you placed them into your saddle, using your robe to strap them onto it tightly. You rubbed your horse's neck and you murmured, "Look like this may be the last time I see you, my dear friend. Thank you for keeping company for all these long years." It neighed in response, nuzzling its muzzle against your cheek, as you leaned your forehead against it. You give it one last smile and a kiss, before signalling its jump with a pat. The jump was clean, although your horse did skid a bit on its landing, but the children were safe with the adults. Once you saw the two children get off the saddle, you whistled, hoping your horse could jump back over, but the sound of an arrow being released causes you to dodge. It narrowly misses you, but instead your horse jumps in front of the villagers, taking a hit directly to its calf. You flinched as you hear the painful neigh and you shouted, "Get out of here!" "Your horse-" "Take her with you! She's injured, I can't make her fight in that state!" you responded as you unsheathed your sword. You slipped your staff into its scabbard and you muttered, "These blasted soldiers. Do they not realize they're shooting their own people!?" You immediately duck into the trees. They may shoot blindly into the dark as much as they want, but I have the advantage here. You made your way through the foliage, in hopes that you could still hear Soren's voice. His consistent mumbling of wind magic was enough to guide you towards the right direction, but with the interference of arrows and shouts of your foes, you were slowly losing focus on that quiet grumble. The release of multitudes of arrows catches your attention though, and you make a quick glance up, only to dodge and roll away as quick as possible as the arrows speared through your previous location. You bit your tongue at how close you were to your death. But this was not your first time. But just as you tried to get up, you felt a stinging pain in your left shoulder. You glanced over to see a tiny knife embedded into your skin, digging into you. With a shaky hand, you gripped it and pulled it out. But as soon as you did, you cursed as the blood seeped through the open wounds. You used whatever magic you could to heal yourself, but it wasn't fast enough to reverse the damage, only slowing it at most. "The enemy is right there! I can see their figure!" "How many are there?" "Just one, sir." "Then I shall deal with it. That rag tag lowly bunch thinks they can take on an army? Well they were wrong," he chuckled as he approached you. You could hear the slow march of a general in armor, and you cursed. Of all things, an armored general? If it was just some lowly grunt I could probably have won. I need to escape. There's no way I can win here. You checked the wound one last time, and after one last surge of healing magic, you dashed away. The crunch of dead leaves and twigs beneath your feet gave away your location, and suddenly there is an onslaught of footsteps following you. Your advantage over them was just enough to get far enough away faster than they could, as they couldn't maneuver through the forest as easily. But just as you reached the edge of the clearing, one look indicated danger. The entire field was filled with the fallen comrades of the opposing side. Their soldiers mourning over their fellow comrades in arms, and you immediately ducked back into the forest. I'm stuck between a rock and a very hard place. Where the hell did our group run off too? You continued your trek, but you could feel the flare of pain in your legs. You were beginning to burn out and you bit out a dark chuckle, "Seriously, after all these years, I'm finally going to give way here?" No, I won't fall here. I still haven't had the chance to figure out why those of my kind are so hated. I refuse to believe that the goddesses dictated some stupid rule like that. You leaped over a fallen log tree, only to realize hear shouting behind you. "There!" "Follow!" Well, shit. You darted away as fast as you could, only to stop when a spear narrowly misses your head. You skid into a stop and quickly unsheathe your sword, barely parrying a slash from above. The general chuckled, "Well, well, looks like the little mouse knows how to fight, eh?" You immediately noted he wasn't wearing heavy armor at all, and with a strong kick, you push yourself away from him. You hesitated for a split second before turning tail and running off. The man growled as he chased after you, profanities spilling from his lips the entire time. You hear the tell tale sounds of arrows splitting air and you duck and roll side ways before stumbling forward to break into another sprint. But all the running and tumbling has taken a toll on your stamina as you feel yourself losing energy. I can make it. I can still hear Soren's voice. And I can hear the others too. They.. they waited. You almost teared at the thought, but you shook your head. I have to get to them safely first. But how do I get rid of these people that are on my trail. How can I- Your thoughts are wrenched from you as you let out an heart-wrenching cry of pain as you feel hot flames lick at your entire being, engulfing you whole. But it was that sound and the light of the red fire that alerted not just the enemy of your location, but also your comrades. You glared at the general who approached you slowly, and he laughed, "Well well, look at our mouse now, aren't you a sight to behold-" But he doesn't finish his sentence as you spring forward, launching the first strike. He narrowly dodges it, but it nicks his cheek, causing blood to trickle down his face. The smug expression on his face turns to horror and then anger as he lunges at you. But you throw yourself at him, passing the flames from him to you. He cries out in pain as the heat sears his unprotected skin, and you rolled on the floor, getting rid of it as much as you could. Your body was heavy, and you could feel your vision blurring as you tried to focus on the enemy before you. He was still grappling to get his armor off as his undergarments caught on fire, but you couldn't afford to relax when he was right there. Kill him. He's right there. I can't move. It was as though your entire body was filled with lead, you couldn't move, you couldn't breathe, you couldn't see. Nothing was working. And then it finally dawned on you. That knife... it must have been... tainted with poison. You let out a dark chuckle as you steady yourself by plunging your sword into the ground. No wonder I couldn't heal it immediately. I was wondering... what went wrong. I should have paid more attention, god damn it. Your eyelids fluttered, threatening to close, and you muttered, "I can't fall here. There's still.. so much more I have to do..." "[F/N]!" That voice... sounds so familiar. Your body swayed back and forth, struggling to keep you up right and alive. But you can faintly hear the sound of metal against metal and the cries of anguish from the opposing side. "[F/N]! [F/N]! Hey, stay with us! Stay with me now!" Is that... Ike? You barely catch his worried expression and your last thoughts were, Ah I wish... I had the chance to tell you.
I was never meant to exist in this world anyways. But you, no, not just you, all of you... All of you made me feel like I finally had family. Like I finally had a place to belong, thank you. *** "We're sorry, Ike," Mist managed to choke out. Her hands trembled as she held onto her staff weakly. Titania walked out of the tent, her head lowered and gaze averted from their young commander. Ike's throat was dry, and he weakly asked, "What?" Mist opened her mouth, but she finds herself unable to speak. Tears are welling at the corners of her eyes, and she barely manages another apology before she silently breaks into tears. Ike numbly stares at her and then past her into the tent. There was no way you were gone. Just yesterday the two of you were laughing, talking about random nonsense like the color of the skies and the grass. You had just finished teaching him a new sword technique, and you had even taught Mist more riding skills. How could you be gone? "Ike," Soren's throat is dry, but he just manages to call out his name, and he mumbled, "Do you... Would you like to... one last time?" His sentences are choppy, and his composure is nearly gone. He had known you were like him. He could tell from the way you cared for the entire camp as though you were their mother. You had more experience then all of them combined. He wished he had talked to you. He wished he didn't push you away when you tried. And Soren still remembers the pain yet understanding gaze when he had. His fists clenched, and Ike doesn't respond as he walks into the tent. It was as though you were asleep. Your expression was calm, it was gentle, and it was filled with an inexplicable peace that he's never seen before. He slowly kneels down, and his hand slowly, gently takes hold of yours and he whispered, "[F/N]..." You won't ever hear me call your name again, nor will I hear you say mine. Ike rests his forehead against your hand. I'm sorry. I failed to protect you. Even though I said I'd do anything in my power to protect those important to me. To fight for my friends. To keep them safe and bring them peace. I couldn't do it for you. I couldn't. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. *** It wasn't until after dinner when Mist finally approaches Ike. In her hands was the small bag that you always carried around with you, and he glances at it before looking up at Mist. "Is this...?" She nods and she mumbled, "I didn't look through it yet, but I figured you should." "Do I even have the right to?" he scoffed and Mist nodded, "I think... I think [F/N] would want you to." She drops it in his lap before walking away. Ike stares at it, his thoughts empty as he tries to find the will to open it. But soon, he finds himself subconsciously opening it, and pulling out an old weathered leather notebook. He opens it, and his eyes widened from the first date in the journal. As he flips through it, the pages documented your entire life, from your childhood up til the realization that you weren't a Beorc, nor were you a laguz, but rather the cursed mix of the both. Your father, a Beorc, and your mother, a hawk laguz. You were granted nothing except hatred from the people around you, and the sight and hearing of a hawk. He finds his throat growing dry as he reads the documentation of your past, and it isn't until he reaches the end of the yellowed pages that your words grow more lighthearted. But the folded letter at the very end causes him to pause as he sees two of them. One for Soren, and one for him. Ike slowly places Soren's letter back into the folds of the old pages, and closes the book. But upon opening your letter, he feels regret, relief, and the overwhelming love that you were holding back the entire time. After reading, he can't control the tightening in his chest as the sting of tears threaten to spill yet again. His grip on the letter tightens just slightly before he lets it drop into his lap. His hands desperately wipe away at the tears and he muttered, "Idiot." "I wish I could have told you I loved you." He took in a deep shaky breath, and he softly whispered, "I wish I did too."

keep this ask for last and answer all the ones you didn't get
[Boy, this is long...]
Supportive – Who did you S-rank and why?
In Awakening, I S-ranked Tharja. Not cause she appealed to me as a character or as a “sexy waifu”, but because she shored up my unit’s only stat deficiency of mag/res.
As far as Fates, my Birthright file S-ranked Kaden, and my Revelation S-ranked Reina due to a miscalculation on army-wide supports -- though she surprised me as a marriage a option, even if she can be a little unnerving at times.
The marriage aspect is overall sort of eh to me, so I rarely have a reason outside of “how is this beneficial to me” or “whups I made a mistake & you need to marry so and so instead lol sorry bruh”
Misfortunate – Unluckiest moment in game?
Don’t even speak to me of Birthright. I still haven’t finished the damn game because I got so fucking frustrated with it. The entire playthrough was a big “fuck you”.
Otherwise, probably the time I played through Radiant Dawn and got to the level where you fight Oliver again. Ike & Soren got completely separated from the bulk of the group, and were surrounded by Halberdiers and Snipers. Ike got hit by well over 10 Sniper crits until Soren ran out of staves.
Aching Blood – Did you name/forge any weapons? If so, what was your favorite name that you gave to a weapon?
Ever since PoR! Back when you could name and change the color of the weapons (not relevant, really, but you could have freaking neon weapons, come on).
I can’t really recall specific names, there’ve been a lot. My most sentimental was probably a golden sword from PoR I dubbed “Golden Claw -- not the most creative sounding, but it stems from a fantasy world I made up when me, my bro & a friend of ours used to play with toy swords in our backyard. It was the first step into writing and world building I ever had, so it’s meaningful to me.
As for sheer punny names, though, I forged Jakob a dagger dubbed “Get Served”.
Triple Threat – Swords, lances, or axes?
Generally axes, I just love to bash/crush things in games. But, irl, I have more...experience??? (not really, but what else am I to call it?) with waving fake swords around and handling real blades. I have a few in my closet, I really should post some pics of them.
In Extremis – Clutch moment for you in game?
I’m sure there must have been some -- especially in RD -- but I’m blanking. The only thing I can think of atm is Zihark standing alone in the river, completely surrounded/barraged by Laguz, and Astra/critting for most of the chapter. Barely surviving for most of the time, and quickly running out of healing items and eventually weapons.
Wary Fighter – Are you reckless or careful in your strategies?
I vacillate. I’m not that great of a strategist. With newer levels/games, I’m more careful -- I fight defensively more often than not, and try to bait enemies; which didn’t work very well in Fates, and it annoyed me.
With games/levels I know like the back of my hand, I run around like a nutter because I know I can.
Swap – Did you ever sacrifice a unit in order to save another?
All the damn time. If you play without perma death, you’ll likely come across a situation where you just...have to. Meat shield was a favored term for me and my bro when we were younger, going through Blazing Sword-Radiant Dawn. Some characters were literally there to soak up hits, block paths, and draw attention in dire need.
Aptitude – Was FE easy for you when you started or was it difficult?
I started when Blazing Sword came out to the US, so way back in 2003, when I was only eight years old. Some things were difficult on account of obvious lack of thought as a child, but I learned fast what to do and what not to do. I would say it was easy to get into, though there sure were rough patches.
Rally Spectrum – What is your most favorite/preferred stat?
Defense, followed up closely by Attack. I like my tanks, what can I say?
Galeforce – What was your most broken unit?
Not counting my level who knows what MU in Awakening, the most broken unit I’ve ever used was Ephraim. Without using any stat increasing items, at the end of it, he had maxed every stat aside from res (which he was one or two off from max) through just level up. He’s ridiculously unbalanced. PoR Ike is also crazy unbalanced, and it’s not hard to max him in crucial stats without even trying -- plus, he uses Aether like a nut in PoR.
Rightful God – Favorite boss in the series?
This is really, really, really hard?? I love Nergal and his backstory -- not mention his kickass theme, and flashy magic -- I love Lloyd, because you really just don’t want to fight him plot-wise, and he’s a challenging boss to boot.
As much as I just don’t like Orson, he’s a great boss on account of why he turns sides. It’s fucking heartbreaking, and left a very solid impression on me as a child. It’s really, really sad for those of you who haven’t played Sacred Stones, and I recommend looking into it if only for just that scene in the game. I felt absolutely awful after clearing that chapter. I vaguely remembering setting the game down for a bit, because wow that just happened.
I love the Black Knight, I love Ashnard (the crazy fuck). I love/hate fighting Shiharam; it’s an underrated, but very emotional level in my opinion. Especially if you recruited Jill. It’s sad, but it’s realistic and I love them for not glossing over the real facts of fighting against your own countrymen and family, no matter that you feel you’re doing the right thing by opposing them. Probably loads more of PoR bosses. BERTRAM WAS ALSO A FAV NEARLY FORGOT HIM!
I love so many RD bosses, too. Jarod was a great boss, in my opinion -- I just loved his character a lot. Every single boss in the Tower of Guidance is incredible, and it’s constant “fuckfuckfuck” and angst the whole way. You will never forget going up against Ashera. Never.
That one dude in Awakening after Emmeryn dies, can’t recall his name, but I felt terrible doing that level.
Fates??? Leo was fun to beat up and I liked his cutscene, I guess? I don’t really recall many bosses that I cared about. Does Silas count?
Veteran – Which FE games have you played and what was your favorite?
Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, Shadow Dragon, Radiant Dawn, Awakening, Fates. Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn and Blazing Sword will always be my tops in this franchise.
Paragon – Was there a unit that you put extra effort into/ favored over others?
Harken and Lowen. Gerik. Ike, Boyd, Gatrie, Ranulf, Mist, Rhys, Rolf, Leanne, Rafiel, Oscar, Nolan, Volke, Geoffrey, Mordecai, lots more probably -- ones I did regret putting time into: PoR Sothe, and Kyza in Radiant Dawn. Lon’qu, Stahl, Lissa, Miriel, others I’m forgetting whups?? Silas and Kaden.
Quick Burn – Do you try to get through the game quickly or do you take your time?
Take my time, especially now. It’s amazing how much dialogue/plot I missed as a kid by punching the A button or skipping scenes entirely. Or stuff I simply didn’t understand as a kid, too.
Vow of Friendship – Do you reset if you lose units in battle?
Depends on A) the unit, B) how the unit was killed, C) how long I’ve been playing whatever level it is.
If they’re a favorite unit, yeah, I’ll reset. If the unit (regardless of favoritism) died because of something ridiculous, I’ll reset out of frustration or annoyance at something that was most likely circumstantial, but usually only the once. If I almost clear a level and a unit dies -- especially one I care for -- you bet your butt I’m shutting the game off and swearing up a storm before leaving it to sit for a few hours because I’m pissed at whatever mistake/bullshit I made/happened.
But, on the whole, if someone dies, they die. It doesn’t bother me overly much, and I know that I can just use that character on another playthrough.
