Everyone's putting out their Mizu5 aftermath theories and I want to toss my hat in the ring.
As a disclaimer, I've only heard things about the event. Feel free to correct me!
So, Ena. Ena is an artist. She makes art.
Ena also wants to prove herself as an artist.
To express her feelings about Mizuki's confession and subsequent disappearance, Ena makes an art piece about it. It's messy, and complicated, and a little bit crass because that's also how Ena is. Someone said this kind of situation parallels Kanade's music "saving" Mafuyuu. Ena wants to "save" and understand Mizuki.
Understand is a key word here. We as the audience can (safely) assume Ena doesn't fully understand what Mizuki is going through. She knows that what was said about Mizuki by their classmates made her upset, and that she didn't have the chance to defend herself or elaborate, but not why. Why not?
Because Mizuki is a girl. As far as Ena is concerned, Mizuki has always been a girl.
So in order to understand her friend, Ena makes art about how Mizuki must feel— she can only guess after all.
"But Majoko," you might be saying, "you're just repeating everyone else! What makes your prediction so unique? What makes it an interesting story?"
It's what I think happens with that art. A lot of people probably won't even understand it, just thinking Ena is really invested in studying anatomy all of a sudden. Maybe have someone insult it or even be dismissive. This will frustrate Ena, but for once, she's not focused on proving herself. Despite this, she continues to work on it. Until something unexpected happens.
Her dad sees it. Probably accidentally.
Ena catches him looking at it, and immediately gets defensive, expecting him to do his usual bit about how it's not good enough, and she doesn't have what it takes to be an artist, yada yada. She doesn't want to hear it right now because it wasn't for him to judge in the first place.
But then he says it's good.
He still says stuff about her technique and whatnot, but it's very minimal, and he tells her the feelings being conveyed in it are strong. Then he brings up an art competition and says this piece might be her best shot at it. Not at winning. But at being seen as an artist.
Now Ena is torn. This was supposed to be a personal piece for Mizuki, but her interests are at war with each other. On one hand, it feels disrespectful and selfish to use Mizuki's suffering to further her own goals and desires. She can't imagine making a spectacle of someone like that. What if she portrays it wrong? What if it insults Mizuki? What if it endangers her more? If she wins, she'd have to face not just Nightcord, but Mizuki about ultimately benefiting from her misery. It would also mean exposing her secret for the entire world to gawk at. And if she lost... It would all be for nothing.
It would be very interesting, wouldn't it?
