Jarlaxle: Easy, smash. This man knows what he's doing, or at least wants the world to believe he knows what he's doing. I'd say he's not afraid to try new things, but lets be real, there's probably very little he hasn't tried. He's crazy rich so I do expect him to treat me to a nice dinner and a bottle of wine. Knowing that there's a sweet, caring heart underneath the flamboyant and chaotic exterior just makes him more attractive. This man would be perfect but I sense commitment issues and know he's got that tendency to self-sabotage relationships. Oh, well. What do you think about the greyjoys characters in the book?

Balon - I think he's an ass. That's really all there is to it, I just think he's an ass and I don't feel all that much about him.

Victarion - I'm gonna be honest I find Victarion to be extraordinarily fucking funny. He's stupid as all Hell and he's got levels of self delusion to rival Cersei, but with none of the gender issues that make Cersei toe the line between hilarious and heartbreaking, so he's just hilarious. Victarion's chapters are always a nice bit of breathing room for me because it's just him Being Victarion while everything else is getting dark and heavy.

Euron - As a person, Euron is godawful, as a person he's my least favorite Greyjoy just because of how horrendous of a person he is, he's so incredibly vile and evil that I want to beat him to death with a hammer. As a character, he's fantastic. He's genuinely scary (reading about him through Aeron's eyes can be honestly terrifying), and he's such a chaotic element that we haven't seen before. He's as unrepentant as the likes of Ramsay or Joffrey, but without their disorder, yet he's not as calculated politically as someone like Littlefinger, though he's certainly not a buffoon in that regard. He's got a plan, but it's crazy and no one's entirely sure what it is and he's definitely crazy but he's just got zero morals, no sense of anything other than what he wants, and he's definitely going to somehow raise up a giant fucking sea monster at some point. And also fuck the show for what they did to him.

Theon - He's an interesting one for me. Like most people I think, I found book 1 and 2 Theon to be completely insufferable. He's an asshole with delusions of grandeur and he's just kind of a dick who throws temper tantrums and cannot admit when he's wrong or doing something he shouldn't. His entire "Prince of Winterfell" arc is just being in the head of this annoying brat who wants me to feel bad for him cuz he murdered people and Daddy didn't love him, I just wanted to shake him and yell "grow up!". But now, I'm curious about Theon. We haven't actually seen a whole lot of Theon after ACOK, we've been seeing the war between Theon and Reek, and he's only recently managed to shake off some of that conditioning, but he's still fascinating from a character perspective. To have fallen so far and to watch him claw his way back up to being himself, to see how his experiences have shaped him, it makes me interested in seeing how he'll be in the last two books of the series (I'm keeping the faith that we'll get them one day). And how that relates to the story's overall themes of identity and the self is always very interesting to keep in mind when reading his chapters.

Asha - I like Asha, I think she's neat. Like, I genuinely enjoy her, I enjoy her character and I enjoy when her point of view chapters show up, I like her personality and her arc in the story thus far and I especially appreciate how unabashed she is. She's bold and she's willful and she's going to do her own thing no matter what anyone says, she's got a strong sense of self and a strong drive to do what she wants and how she sees things, without being reckless or stupid. She's earned what she has, the loyalty of people around her and the respect of her crew and the positions she has, and I like that. And I like her defiance of Westerosi gender roles, that she not just knows what she wants but what she doesn't want, and fuck society for trying to enforce that on her, she's going to live her life the way she sees fit. I'm rooting for Asha, I hope she gets everything she wants.

Aeron - Listen, I do not know why Aeron is such a top character for me. I don't know why he leaped out so strongly, but he did and I genuinely adore him. For one, his scenes in ACOK are incredibly fun, because Theon's just being a little asshole and Aeron is not taking it and just being the perennial straight man, which I love. And then once we get to learn more about him, I just...For one, Aeron, like a lot of my fave ASOIAF, tends to break the mold of what we tend to see from this world. A lot of POV characters in ASOIAF are situationally religious, they believe in the gods that they believe in because that's just the societal custom of the time and don't seem to actually feel all that much about faith, a lot of them bordering on being atheist. Aeron is one of the very, very few people who not alone believes in what he believes, but believes wholeheartedly, is incredibly and fiercely devout to his religion and lives his life in direct service to not only propagating the faith but also living by it himself as best he can (Melisandre's the only other character that fits that description, I think), and that's a new perspective we don't get in this series that I enjoy. Aeron's also an incredibly complex character that is fascinating to read about and think on. He started out as a fun loving guy, and then when he almost drowns he turns himself around and is incredibly serious about dedicating his life to being a priest of the Drowned God, and all the lifestyle and personality changes that entails. He doesn't do thing by halves, when he has goals he sticks to them no matter what, and he does have beliefs that he clings to wholeheartedly, not just his faith but also in genuinely wanting what's best for the Iron Islands and the Ironborn, the entire reason he calls the Kingsmoot is to make sure that Euron doesn't become king, oh Aeron. And there's a fierce heartbreak in his story, in what he went through at Euron's hands when he was just a kid, and how that's shaped him throughout his life, how he probably went with being amiable and debaucherous to try and cope with his trauma, and then turned completely to religion later on (that quote about him searching for the Drowned God within him when Euron wins the Kingsmoot and finding nothing, only the sound of the door hinge.........God it tears me up). And he won't compromise himself, he won't join Euron even to save himself, even when Euron's torturing him in the released TWOW chapters, he tries his hardest to stay true to himself. And even with all his seriousness and hardness and the fact that anyone who had to deal with Aeron dealt with as a child would be well within their rights to be incredibly embittered, he still tries to look out for people best as he can, not just his drowned men but even strangers, he does genuinely try to give Falia warning to get away from Euron as quickly as she can, even though Falia means nothing to him, just because he knows what Euron is. He's an incredibly fascinating and deeply tragic character and I am going to be weeping into my pillow when he dies.

Same, same same same. I played the trilogy in 2018. I was 22. I’m almost 29. I almost immediately fell in love with this man, obsessed in the way that a hyperfixation and a genuine fictional crush can only be.

Back then I made up a Lavellan that was all my worst pitiful qualities and made the dolls smash. Angst upon angst upon angst. In many ways my Solavellan was running in the background as a weird panacea and repository for my terrible feelings in my early-to-mid 20s. My Lavellan is anxious, socially inept, naive, easily folds at the slightest push-back, horribly codependent, and self-effacing, the epitome of ‘Wrong Person for Any Leadership Job’.. a slight exaggeration of the issues I struggled with irl. Huge imposter syndrome and fears of intimacy and rejection, in other words.

Solas was that “Aloof Older Man Whose Approval You Wish For More Than Anything” for me (daddy issues, hoooooo!!), and my Lavellan was in lock-step beside me with a similar but more desperate attraction. She was then made to act out a twisted story in which the person who encouraged and uplifted her during the most chaotic and difficult time of her life turned out to have lied about his identity, and what then were his kind words worth if he had hidden who he was from someone he claimed to love?

In the pure meta real life sense, I love Solas for being a seamless blend of philosophical, spiritual, and historical as both a companion and a love interest. The way he speaks of time, history, experience, empires, societies, systems, free will, knowledge, ethics, intent versus outcome, cause and effect, and human nature are the conversations and theories that have been discussed, debated, and argued at length by sociologists, historians, anthropologists, physicists, and philosophers for centuries. Solas is a one of a kind character in that those musings are a core functioning part of his being. You have to be predisposed or “built” a certain way for such things to preoccupy your time to the extent it does for him. You can argue it is due to his being an ancient elf, a man desperate to relay What Once Was to a deaf and blind world that has forgotten, or some offshoot of Wisdom that makes him this way, but it doesn’t change the fact that the game devs chose to create a character that is really up my fucking alley.

As a real human being, I waver between love, lust, frustration, grief, sympathy, and anger at the man for his ideas, plans, and actions lol. My younger self that was studying for a history degree was simply ecstatic there was a character who was speaking my language of academics and historicism. My current post-grad self would like a few words about certain ideas of human nature and the function of history, as well as Why Lying Is Bad When You’re Lying to Me You Asshole. I still want to redeem Solas, but I have now developed a place in my heart that is ready to sacrifice him if need be, and definitely ready to yell at him for his dumb ass decisions.

As for my Lavellan, she hasn’t really developed for the better in what threadbare canon I have given her, but in the meta sense I have allowed myself to write my Lavellan in (AU) scenarios where she is granted opportunities for tentative personal growth and self-advocacy, where asking for things from someone aren’t met with outright rejection, where accommodations and mental illness issues aren’t the source of eye rolls and frustration.

Canon-wise it’s complicated because Solas’s departure in Trespasser left her as he had met her: Her self-worth compromised, her doubts screaming in her ears, the past several years rendered worthless death and suffering since the man she ended up loving was, in effect, using her naivetè and goodness to fix his mistakes so he could then go on to destroy her world. She would have rather never gotten stronger, never have loved to begin with. I’ve spent six years ruminating over the angst of a lovesick liar and a misled codependent crybaby that I haven’t progressed her story beyond vague tendrils of Trespasser, but honestly? She’d be back with her clan or in the woods somewhere quietly living out her life before the world ended, still searching for Solas in the Fade, still regretting letting that man fool her, and still, to her shame, secretly hoping he’ll appear before her and tell her that her world is worth mending, or that he wishes for her to join him in his revolution. Anything to be with him again. It’s stupid and foolhardy, but she’s not the most realistic or rational.

Am I the only one who’s going insane about how the time difference between Inquisition and Veilguard is (roughly) 10 years which is the same difference whether you’re talking about the actual world or the time in Thedas

Which makes the question of ‘do you think Lavellan would still love Solas as strongly as she did 10 years later’ really easy to answer because I have, in fact, loved Solas just as strongly if not more throughout the last 10 years nonstop. 💐 How does your OC handle being unwell or forced to rest in bed? Who cares for them and in what ways? Does your OC enjoy being doted on or are they a terrible patient? Reversed: is your OC good at taking care of others who are ill or in need?

Kel (from Dumb Kids Playing Hero, the Technician and Going Through It) ~ Kel is disabled, living with a chronic illness and has far more experience with being unwell/requiring bed rest than they would like. So they have some baggage around people looking after them and that need to rely on others. Thankfully they are at a point in their life where they have a support system of people who they trust and feel they can be vulnerable around which makes things easier.

Taking care of others is something much less complicated for them - Kel likes to be useful, to look after other people, and while they can be a little blunt sometimes, they are generally pretty good at it.

Morden (one of my Follow the Leader roster, sometimes warlock, sometimes demon, always an asshole with a heart of gold) ~ This drama queen I swear. Likes to be fussed over, to be doted on, to be treated like he's precious. Up until the point where it involves genuine vulnerability or he's seriously hurt - then he's definitely going to be keeping it to himself. Because thats just who he is. There are a couple of people in his life though that can get through to him if needed.

When it comes to looking after other people - well, he'd try. But his methods may not always be ideal.

Thea (my current Thursday night game PC, a retainer for a noble house in Court of Blades) ~ I've not been playing this version of Thea very long but as someone who has fought a lot to be where she is today, and is fiercely independent by necessity (albeit less so now), this is a woman who does not do well being sick. She's pragmatic enough to know when she needs to slow down and rest but she won't like it and has precious few people she's willing to be vulnerable around.

On the flip side, she is deeply compassionate for all of her issues and is really good with other people - you probably couldnt ask for a better person to look after you. In another life, I could see her as a doula or something similar.

Ist (from FTL presents Pathfinder, a goblin Psychic) ~ Well, Ist is baby so...Generally speaking, she's pretty hardy but as far as goblins go, they're also a bit of a daddy's little princess. They don't like being forced to stay in bed unless they're really unwell but being fussed over? She'll take it. Look out for the mage hand tho, she'll get into everything without getting up.

She really isn't who you want looking after you when you're sick - distractable, chaotic, big gremlin energy at all times - but she isnt without kindness either. Just somewhat lacking in the best skillset for the job.

Hello folks! I did watch the episode of Station 19 6x03 that thursday but the streaming gave me hell so i thought i could rewatch it (because i was watching it in the middle of a lecture, talk about dedication am i right?) and expand a little bit on what’s happening and what we could possibly have for 6x04. You know the drill, spoilers ahead:

I have to admit that Maya working out is so hot even tho she’s on her path of self destruction and Jack is right there joining her with other unhealthy methods + Andy giving him some tough love i think + “are you always this rude? -only when i’m this angry!” That made me laugh not gonna lie😂 + the overall theme is that both Jack and Maya are not willing to accept help, not yet and forcing them to do so it’s not gonna end well + unless the show is paralleling both Maya and Jack then ignoring her pain just because it doesn’t look like Jack’s is pretty stupid i’d say

Carina and Ben duo, gotta love them! + oh yikes this going to keep going + popping pills like candy, not sure that’s a good idea, but then again Maya is in her own headspace, not even her wife can make her change her mind right now + lmao Ben that’s not a nice morning + “neurotic, self righteous half korean gay man” gotta love Travis😂 + Travic teaming up! + i’d find Beckett’s humor amussing if he wasn’t an asshole + i mean he’s kinda right, how can you depend on someone who’s just gone + lmao Maya and the doggy door + now she can come to them? So things are moving forward, Andy seems to be more than ready to fill captain’s role which was a long time coming i guess, that means Maya won’t be captain again (i’m still bitter about the trial). I’m honestly glad that Jack is getting the help he needs from 19 but what bothers me is that everyone is just ignoring Maya, again unless they are making some sort of parallel about mental health issues and how they affect people differently then i don’t see how ignoring someone who’s clearly struggling but coping in a different way is acceptable.

I’m also wondering what’s gonna happen with Dixon, any sort of scandal that would take him out of the race maybe? Travis winning? Lots of questions i have. Also i’m wondering how things are going to progress between Ross, Beckett and Sullivan, is Andy gonna expose them or what, hopefully i get my questions answered.

Tomura thinks he knows nothing about beauty, but then she proves him wrong.

(He thought her pretty before already, but after seen it…he concludes she’s the most beautiful, terrific thing he’s ever seen. Not that he would tell her that.)

A feral dangerous creature living inside of her with no other match.

No other but him.

Oh...you have no idea...She told him.

It happens so fast. One moment she’s there, sitting in front of her laptop, pretty and quiet and serene. All harmony and light, resting softly under the sunlight, between her dumb succulents and the spices that fill her home. Then he can hear Dabi’s caustic laugh and the wrong words. He’s disrespectful, an instigator, skilled in the art of making others lose their composure like is his favorite game.

He hears the foul words, the berating, and the mocking aimed to him, while she sits wide eyed and impossible flustered by the kitchen table.

Dabi smirks triumphant, like he always does after giving everyone a piece of his drama and Tomura watches him, wincing, reminding himself again that Dabi is supposedly oldest than him and Toga, and yet he does his best to being an annoying brat.

Tomura knows better to just let him bark, his remarks mean nothing to him, he knows what he is, and he knows what he isn’t. He’s a freak, yeah. That too, but he isn’t a child anymore, so he let it slide, keeping his eyes glued to his phone arching an inquisitive brow, ready to just let it die there.

He just forgot about the stupid little stunts of bravery she has this tendency to commit. (An annoying dangerous trait that makes him chuckle with something akin to fondness.)

She’s having none of the bullshit, Dabi’s little remarks had fed her up after a whole week of spiteful teasing, her precious patience has run thin.

“blue eyes are a mutation too, so you are no one to talk about it.”

The moment she opens her mouth, Tomura feels something warm filling the hollow place where his dead heart should go and it’s so foreign to him that for a moment he panics and thinks (very stupidly) that maybe his energy drink-based diet is finally going to kill him, and he (barely in his sweet twenty’s) is having a stupid heart attack.

But the pain never comes, it’s just her, voicing a clever answer, defending him.

“A quirkless little bitch? Seriously, Dabi? Where you raised in a fucking barn that you know nothing but fuck this and bitch that?

He wants to make her shut it, but he can’t find the words. Not when her remarks are sharp and funny to hear. (Besides, her voice sounds so sweet when she’s throwing smart ass angry comments just to back him up.)

It warms him and enrages him equally. How dare she to defend him? He can speak for himself on his own and doesn’t need her to make any back up about an insult he doesn’t care for. Stupid pretty woman. Trying to shut Dabi, putting herself in danger for the likes of him...Is she insane? (later that day, he’ll conclude that she must be pretty fucking nuts to have them all in her home after all, but somehow the thought only makes him like her more.)

“yeah. I know stupid cunt too.”

Dabi likes to cause havoc and now he’s pissed, so he throws a vulgarity aimed at her. Tomura feels the hot pang of anger at the other man, because the offense is not only an insult, but also a lie.  She’s not stupid nor a cunt. She's sharp as a knife and kind enough to share with them. 

“Dabi, cut it out.” He warns with a grimace, and now the fight has everyone tense in the room.

“I’m sure you do. Pretty useful to describe yourself I bet.” She snarls showing her teeth, an angry frown darkening her features and Tomura swears her eyes begin changing color.

“you sure like to bet, like how you are betting I don’t burn you alive for being an annoying bitch.”

This time Tomura gets fucking furious, something animal revolving inside of him at the idea of Dabi threatening her. But the fight is escalating so fast, he can’t say anything before she answers back.  

“Fuck off, Dabi. This might be shocking for you, but you don’t scare me.”

He wants to laugh at this, truly. Feisty little thing she is when angered, all her soft ways and nerd knowledge thrown out the window in a fit of cocky bickering and a part of him is living for the chaos of it.

“now, that’s pretty fucking stupid of you.”

“Dabi, shut up!” Tomura growls irked with the way her hair has begun to float over her shoulders, now completely convinced that she’s not quirkless at all.

“I’m not the one insulting everyone just because I cannot deal with some fucking daddy issues.”

God fucking dammit woman, just shut up. He thinks frustrated, giving her a look worth a stab.

“YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT” Dabi snarls before kicking the little table in the living room, breaking one of its legs with a loud crack.

“CUT IT OUT!” she screams this time, standing from her chair “I don’t have to know when it’s plainly obvious you have problems with authority.”

“you really think you are so clever, don’t you?” Dabi states, crossing the living room, aiming to her, so Tomura leaves his place in the corner to stand at her side without even thinking why.

“I know I am, asshole!”

Dabi stops his tracks, looming over her like a monster. His eyes scanning her face before looking at Tomura, who stands by her with his hands open in front of him in clear warning.

The black-haired man looks at her before moving to Tomura, his brows raised in surprise as he chuckles darkly.

Shigaraki hates the way he looks at him, like he knows his thoughts. Like he knows he’s been creeping into her room to watch her sleep and the sinister lustful visions that sometimes plague his dreams after some playful back and forth every time she defies him with some smart-ass comment.

“stupid woman. You should know better.”

And then…he just slaps the laptop out of the table; the computer smashing open against the cemented ground.

Tomura remembers this moment like one would remember the witness of a car crush or a catastrophe. A simple second enough to amaze him for a lifetime.

The way her eyes just ignite into scorching red lights shining like burning embers under her frown brow. Her hair floats free from gravity over her shoulders like a terrible chaotic crown as her mouth flash pearly teeth in a feral snarl.

He watches how she claws her right hand, fingers curling, knuckles tensing and Dabi is suddenly choking under the pressure of some raw power. His limbs twisting painfully in horrific motion and unnatural angles in complete agony.

A second later and before anyone could grasp what’s happening, her other hand pointing pinky, index and thumb to Compress, Toga and himself, keeping them frozen in their place, a strange rigid pressure making him feel like he’s full of cement and any movement will shatter his bones and snap his spine.

He can’t move, he can barely breathe. Feeling like if every fiber of his being, every muscle, every cord is solid hard under his skin, unavailing him to get away.

But he can watch, so he watches her terrified and amazed.

Her quirk is rare, and powerful and dangerous. But she keeps it locked away, sleeping soundly, safely caged inside her ribs, like the best hidden weapon, perfect for torturing bodies and bending wills. Buried deeply under her layers of kindness and humor.

One twitch of a finger, and Dabi’s neck would snap in two and they can do nothing but just watch when little blood vessels begin to burst in the white of his eyes as he pants desperate for air, his veins contorting furiously under the marred skin of his neck and the flames scatter in some random parts of his body without any control.

Tomura swears he can hear Dabi’s bones crackle under the invisible force as his spine bends backwards in a sickening angle.

And, as sudden as it begins, ends.

Her hair falls and her eyes are no longer red. Dabi breathes again falling to his knees and for a moment Tomura thinks he will cry out of pure fright.

For a moment he wonders if Toga and Compress want to cry too because that felt like certain death, but is sweet, somehow. Something within him squirms joyfully with the notion of her own violence. She is as dangerous as him, no damsel in distress, no little girl in need of care, no simple quirkless girl, but a horrifying woman. A dangerous and powerful creature with a quirk made for torment, just like-

He looks at her, just to find a sad disappointed face. A thick trail of blood began sliding silently from her nose, tainting the perfect bow of her lip. Only then he notices the bloodshot eyes and how the color has run from her face.

She stands quiet and bitter watching between her hands and Dabi trying to catch his breath. Her face giving away guilt and self-loathing (two feelings he’s very familiar with.) but unlike him, she is no tormentor, she grasps no joy in watching Dabi suffer, nor do she wish of making them quiver to the sight of her.

She is kind, and brave, and witty. Humorous girl, quick at wordplay and puns; buying vitamins and oranges for them and something about no one getting scurvy under her watch.

He wants to laugh hysterically at her sight because she is magnificent, and for a moment he thinks that the boy with the destructive touch and the girl with the tormenting gaze sounds like a hell of a name for rulers and his heart shivers in excitement, but she is crying and clutches her guilty hands against her chest and ask them to forgive her for using her quirk on them.

She didn’t mean to; she didn’t want to. She likes them all very much, so she promises she’ll never hurt them again, and somehow it reminds him of something, but he cannot place a finger on what exactly.

He feels the sorrow drowning him. A grudge so horrid it makes him want to vomit and scratch his neck raw because something in her resembles something in him, but he cannot really grasp the motive of such connection, only knowing it has something to do with the hands he carries around like a symbol of his own distress and a little black-haired boy crying in some familiar backyard.

The sound of the bathroom door startles him and she’s no longer in the living room, but he can hear the quiet sobbing coming from behind the door.

Finally, Dabi decides to just fall backwards against the cold floor, still panting, an arm over his eyes.

Only then Spinner breaks the dreadful silence and ask the question they all want to make.

“WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT.”

what is their happiest memory? christmas when she was eight after her father god a big promotion at militech! they were spoiled with presents and it was one of the few holidays her family was actually all home for a holiday. it’s sad that most of her good memories with her family revolve around money/work/etc but it really does put her emphasis on success and wealth into perspective.

what is their most painful memory? the few days after her father died, hearing her mother so distraught and sobbing was really hard for her especially since she was only thirteen and didn’t know how to deal with her own feelings.

— Vera biggest weakness in combat she doesn’t have much stamina lmao. that and she doesn’t really have Muscle? like she boxes but she relies more on speed than pure strength. her against smasher is like the biggest challenge she’s had because he’s SO strong and can hold out for a long time so she can’t even tire him out before she does.

avoid combat or shot first? avoid combat! vera knows that straight combat for her without her getting the drop on enemies first is a toss up so she prefers to avoid it altogether if she can’t be sneaky.

threaten or charm? charm! she learned pretty early that batting her pretty eyes and flirting can get her a lot lmao. the free drinks are the best though.

lethal or non-lethal? when it comes to like civilians/workers that are just doing their jobs she goes non-lethal but corpo guards, gang members, etc people who like...would not hesitate to kill her she usually goes lethal with them just because it’d be scary if she’s sneaking and they came to and found her. so like 70% lethal, 30% non-lethal.

who is their closest friend? panam absolutely! it was jackie before that but obviously that...is not happening. she really admires panam’s ability to come up with these really smart plans when honestly vera just wings it and it usually turns out okay. they also have similar dispositions - if vera being a little more image conscious / ambitious / materialistic. they both value loyalty the most and that’s what really attracts them to each other.

who are their other friends if they have them? vera is a dumbass and had drilled into her head as a child that there’s really only you vs the world at a certain point so she has people she enjoys hanging out with but she really forms some like actual good close friendship she manages to learn how to lean on during the game and those include judy, viktor, misty, river, etc. 

if asked she’d just kinda shrug and be like idk but they all are happy to count themselves among vera’s friends she’s just...vera.

what are their exes like? any significant ones? lkfgk. vera dates mostly...for fun and also loses interest very quickly - either because she’s protecting herself because she can actually see it going somewhere or just because she’s fickle. most of her exes are also not...great picks for a relationship. people who also have commitment issues, dangerous people, assholes, etc. 

she’s had a few longer relationships but those have also ended badly due to cheating. poor girl just has bad luck and it kinda serves as an excuse for her to lock down more since every time she’s opened up slightly to the potential of a long term thing the people she pick show their true colors.

are they in a relationship? with who and how is it going? in a relationship with her ex-brain parasite 🙄. it’s actually going...shockingly well considering who they both are? honestly, the reason it’s working is because they’ve both grown so much throughout the game separately. 

a little bit is also the fact that they both were basically forced to bare their souls to each other which is a mountainous obstacle in both of their past relationships. 

they argue a lot but they really are just trying to figure out how to be...in a partnership like this where the other person knows you so well. they have a kind of intimacy i don’t think either has ever experienced and so their first response is to either fuck or argue with each other. they’re working on it and willing to put in the effort which is the biggest part. their bond is just intense - fights, loyalty, fucking, the lot of it is like dialed up to 11.

who are their enemies? corpos and c*ps are the main ones! vera tries to stay on at least semi-good terms with all of the night city gangs just because she grew up on the streets and knows it’s much better to have them for you them against you. raffen shivs also pop up as an enemy post-game since the nomads have to deal with them all the time.

Benoit Blanc headcanons: If I were secretly a character I wrote for, you say? Well then -- *slowly removes mask* Okay but seriously, that’s so sweet and I do not deserve such a compliment!! 😭😭😭 Also, Benoit is surprisingly easy to write for?? (I mean, so long as I don’t gotta write about him being especially smart about a mystery or what have you because as much as I enjoy mysteries, I can’t write them for shit.) He’s pretty upfront with who he is as a person, so really the main difficulty is trying to search the thesaurus to find words that better suit his flamboyant vocabulary. Like, he’s simultaneously a man who could spin a tapistry out of his words and then turn right around and call somebody an asshole.

DJ Soulmate AU: I’m glad you remember this bastard. I’m glad you’re delighted that I wrote for this bastard. I am surprised that I have as many notes as I do on the fic, indicating that there are some people out there who both remember and liked this bastard. I feel filthy for having written this bastard. Writing for DJ is like somebody in a dramedy insisting that they won’t sleep with their sleazy ex, or some piggish rando they just met at a gathering. And then it jumpcuts to them in bed, lying in the aftermath. DJ is the walking version of sex you know you’ll regret in the end, but you go through with it anyway. Also, apparently DJ’s last lie is a favorite: The person I had read over it also very much enjoyed that line, so I’m pretty glad it stuck the landing!

This will mostly be about character in the comics, but I’ll throw in who i like to play as well

Scout: he gives off annoying little sibling energy. very entertaining and funny, he talks non-stop in the comics. his daddy issues go deep and it’s probably good that he doesn’t know HOW deep. Before most matches start i pick scout and run around the map, hitting as many people with the fish as I can. 6/10 cool boy

Pyro: baby. I do wish they had more of a personality besides “obsessed with fire and doesn’t live in reality”, but pyrovision is a very fun concept and makes this guy both loveable and TERRIFYING. Pyro is my second most played, because who doesn’t love not aiming and causing extreme carnage? 7/10 chaotic being

Soldier: OK HONESTLY? MY FAVORITE CHARACTER FROM THE COMICS. this poor, lead poisoned, brain dead, psychopath. only blood lust and patriotism consume the mind of this man, but there really isnt much space up there anyway. his stupidity and knack for pissing off literally anyone is fantastic. also, he ends up dating heavy’s sister zhanna and they have a FANTASTIC dynamic (ok, she actually might be my favorite but soldier is close). I don’t play him that much, but rocket jumping is hella fun. 10/10 GOOD HUSTLE, SOLDIER!

Demoman: Underappiciated and under utilized in fan content! I think he has one of the best origin stories. He’s realatively sane for TF2 mercs, and would probably be all the way there if it wasnt for his nasty drinking habit. There’s also a comic where a soldier and demoman on opposite teams become friends and that is such a good one. Valve definitely could have done better on having more characters who aren’t white, but im glad we at least got Tavish! I suck at demoman but i’m trying to play him more to get better. Kinda surprising since junkrat was my 2nd most played in overwatch. 8/10 "Oh, they're goin' ta have to glue you back together...IN HELL!"

Heavy: Due to his appearance in the telltale poker night game, this guy probably has the most complete characterization. Somewhere between a gentle giant and crazy russian, he’s a family man with a doctorate in russian literature and a strong attachment to Sascha, his favorite gun. He doesn’t say much, but he usually says the right thing. God bless him for putting up with the rest of the team, because if he didn’t, they’d all be goners. Heavy playstyle just isnt fun for me so i rarely pick him. 8/10 Legendary Comrade

Engineer: I feel like we hear the least about this dude’s personality in the comics. He’s a genius engineer in a family of genius engineers. His grandfather created a life extending machine (thats kinda important to the comics) that he later upgraded. Dude literally has 12 Phds. I enjoy his general laid-back texan demeanor. I feel like he’d be really fun at parties for some reason. I’ve been playing engineer way more recently and a lot of his voice lines are sarcastic and a bit goofy. 7/10 texas sized yee haw.

Sniper: someone give this man a fucking break. please. my god. the most mentally there of the team, doesn’t seem absorbed with killing, but does enjoy the challange and competition of sniping. has a bit of an identity crisis (in the form of his superman-esque origin story) which is quickly resolved. probably would be the most pleasant of these guys to meet in real life. i only play sniper on the 2 Fort map and I have never gotten a headshot. ever. 6/10 great shot, mate.

Medic: MY MAN LUDWIG! My favorite character before reading the comics. I’d say he’s a fucked up doctor, but thats only the half of it. He isnt even a doctor anymore (its hard to keep a medical license after removing someone’s entire skeleton). For a dude who stole all of his friend’s souls and literally outsmarted devil... he’s not THAT bad. I mean, sure he abandoned his team to fight against them just so he could commit more atrocities against nature. Sure, he only has an evil smile and demented laugh. But uh... he is... nice to his doves? Yeah ok nevermind I cant really defend this guy. Being a little evil is... kinda sexy though (look up medic cosmetic “The Burly Beast”). In game, my medigun is named “Press E To Send Me To Therapy”. E is the call for medic button. I am a medic main and I am so, so tired. 10/10 “ZHAT was doctor assisted homocide!”

Spy: french asshole. seems pretencious and unattached but he really isnt. actions speak louder than words spy, and even if you had to tell scout you were his father disguised as tom jones, at least you did it. if i play spy i get overly excited at backstabbing someone because i suck at it. 6/10 oui oui effle tower baguette i love making fun of the french

After the fall of Agent Maine, AKA the Meta, certain investigative measures became imperative. Project Freelancer assets had been scattered and returned to a central point. Freelancers themselves had escaped the grasp of the UNSC and affiliated organizations, and were brought back for interrogation. Exactly what happened needed to be known- and that required thorough questioning of all involved parties.

For the first six, this was a simple matter of question-and-answer. Some embellishment, especially from the red sergeant, happened naturally, and some downplaying as well, such as from Agent Washington. Then the Counselor reached someone who neither embellished nor downplayed, but told the story in such a chaotically different way as to demand further observation.

"Could you repeat that, Private Caboose?"

"I think the Meta could have been a good friend! He had some anger problems but so did Tex and she was a nice lady. She helped me learn how to flirt with the tank!"

"Right." Price jotted this down in an illegible calligraphic scrawl only he could read. "And you say 'Tex' and the Meta shared a similar personality issue in the form of 'anger problems'?"

"Yes! They both had O'Malley!"

"O'Malley?"

"That is the AI who has the scary voice and makes people really strong. I do that without any special voices in my head!"

"You do... What, exactly?"

"I get really mad and get really strong and save the day!"

Price sat back in his armchair, brows drawn together in only the faintest sign of scrutiny as he eyed the giant of a private. Michael J. Caboose was quickly becoming interesting, in the way that Agent Florida and Agent North Dakota had been interesting- unassuming strength, an inner fire concealed behind a lie of a smile. They were Price's favorite sort to study, for their individual method of self-presentation. Agents like South Dakota and Carolina had been exceedingly boring, in that they were exactly what their surface suggested. Caboose had joined a rare group- those that invited Price to study further.

"I see," he said, pulling himself from reverie. "And what inspires this enraged state? Competition? A need for victory?"

"I have to keep my friends safe. They are usually good at doing that themselves, but sometimes they are tired."

"And you believe you can protect them?"

"When they need me to."

"And would you consider yourself... A good soldier?"

Caboose's head tilted to the side for a moment, blue eyes sparkling. "I think I am! I try really hard to take care of my team and stay in shape and I am really good at drill!"

"Drill? As in organized movement?"

"Yes! But we don't do that much. We kind of don't do anything until we have to fight somebody. We should really do more as a team, like bake cookies!"

Price was learning he could repeat a single word and Caboose would unravel more of what went on behind those beaming blues. "Cookies?"

"Yes! I love cookies!" Caboose dropped his voice, hushed with excitement. "Are there cookies here?"

"I'm afraid not."

"Can we get some cookies? We could bake some together."

This caught Price off-guard, though no outward flinch or movement suggested as much. "We as in you and I?"

"Yes! You seem like you could use a cookie."

"We are not here to talk about me."

"Maybe we should! Everyone needs someone to talk to."

Caboose smiled brightly, invitingly, and Price stared at him for a moment. Not even Agent North Dakota, known for being far too caring, had ever dared try to pry into the mind of the counselor. What interest had this private in Price's private mind?

"And Leonard- don't even get me STARTED on Leonard. I've never met a man so flexible. You must be to get your head that far up your asshole!"

"Leonard like Church?"

"The original. Director Leonard Church, the one who made the AI your friend was based off of."

"A-I..."

"Yes. The Alpha AI fragment you knew in Blood Gulch. When I speak of Leonard, I mean the original whiny bastard who created your friend."

"So you were friends with Church's daddy!"

"Er."

"That is okay. Did Church have a mommy, too?"

Those bright, innocent blue eyes. Price cleared his throat. "Not exactly. AI aren't made how people are. Though Alpha did split and form the Beta fragment- which made things even worse for dealing with Leonard."

"That must have been very difficult."

"Managing his mental health was clearly going to be impossible from the start; within two weeks of my assignment with Project Freelancer, I had decided simply to see where encouraging him would lead. It went exactly where I suspected it would."

"And where is that?"

"They're all dead now."

"Oh."

"Yes."

"Death only means they are not here right now!"

"I-" Price paused, reaching for a cookie. "What does that mean?"

"Exactly what I said! But I will slow it down so you are sure to understand. Sometimes people go away and you think they will not come back, but they always do. Church always does! He is still around, he is just in the Epsilon unit right now!"

"You don't think death is a permanent state?"

"I have not seen it be permanent yet!"

"You believe your friend will come back?"

"He always does!"

Price stared at those innocent blue eyes, and something dark in him craved to take them over and introduce Caboose to the truth of death. To tell him his friend would never come back. The Meta and Tex would never come back. Caboose's best friend was dead, and the Epsilon unit was not a replacement. It would be so easy to wreck that innocent, sweet naivety- and watch the ensuing chaos as Caboose's mind broke.

Price took another bite of cookie. It would be as simple as defining mortality.

"Private Caboose..."

"Yes?"

That bright beaming smile. Those wondrous blue eyes.

"Your friends are very lucky to have you."

"They do not think so."

An unexpected flash of indignation sparked in Price's chest. "Oh?"

Caboose whispered, "Tucker is kind of stupid."

"Oh. And Agent Washington?"

"He seems nice. I'd like to keep him. He is not Church, but he could be a Church."

Price's moment of chaotic desire passed. "How is that?"

"He is grumpy. And tired. And he thinks me and Tucker are not smart. I like him."

"You like people who look down on you and have unpleasant personality traits?"

"I think they need good friends to teach them how to be good people!"

Unexpectedly, Price laughed. A grating, breathy sound, one that rusted around his vocal cords from lack of laughing muscles being used, but a laugh nonetheless.

"Perhaps you can teach me."

Caboose took Price's hand. "I think that would be nice."

Price marveled at himself for being unable to bear the thought of destroying that innocence. He had never been averse to ruining minds and consequently lives- but this one time, with Private Michael J. Caboose, Price couldn't do it. Even as he had considered it, figured in a heartbeat how to do it, known that the power of a word could accomplish great and terrible things, he had been unable to.

Caboose smiled. "And then you could be friends with Church's other daddy!"

Chaol and Yrene: - We got a dynamic, passionate, caring relationship like Chaolaena without the mistrust or arrogance. - He is obviously broken mentally and physical, but instead of miscommunication per the usual relationship, she pushes him to seek help. It isn't until she sees him open up that she falls in love and he starts to live again. - They super sleuth together! - Their chemistry is off the charts. I mean damn. The story starts with screw you and ends with marry me. THOSE SMUT SCENES THOUGH!! - They giggle together frequently! When have we ever really seen Captain/Lord Westfall laugh??? The horse racing scene was adorable. - She is incredibly intelligent and mentally/physically tough (untrained but tough) which makes her an equal partner for him. - She's gods-blessed! - She really saw him as a person instead of a title, which is something nobody ever really does. - They both are moral and noble to a fault. She vows to never do harm and never kill someone unless it's for mercy. He has always had a moral code that complicates his story line. - The tether bond gave me major Feysand feels! I felt the "BRING HIM BACK" from ACOTAR/ACOWAR. Plus it's a fresh way of looking at a bond. It's a bond of choice instead of fate. It's just gorgeous and I love it! Nesryn and Sartaq: - Nesryn is his first choice. Poor baby never is anyone's first choice and she deserves that! - They are each other's mental/physical equal. Matched in intelligence and fighting ability. Plus he fangirls at her archery skills. - She loves family. She's a part of a huge loving family. Even though his family is chaotic and super wrapped up in tradition, it's obvious to me that there's a lot of love there. I feel like that's important to Nesryn moving forward. - Nesryn loves the southern continent. Being tied to a partner who leads that area would be a blessing to her. - Sartaq is patient with her as she works out her issues with Chaol. - They're serious together without being boring. - She is encouraged to do exciting things to let her hair down with Sartaq, like flying, for example. I've never seen joy like that in the Captain. Chaol - I love that he came broken and left with tools for fixing himself. Yrene healed him, but it ultimately was him who healed himself by facing the darkness of the valg. - His lightness. So cute. - We still see him being selfless. Good ole Captain Westfall behavior. - The quotable phrases from the scene where he gives Yrene the locket are precious. - He's not afraid to make sure his Lady is taken care of first ifyouknowwhatimsayin.

Yrene - Fierce af - Smart af - Kind af - Noble af - Refuses to be a victim again - She starts by judging Chaol for being from Adarlan because they destroyed her mother... which means they are super alike in misjudgy world. - Figured out a way to get him mobile prior to movement in toes (horse brace) - She has a temper (pushing the princess into the pool), but won't burn shit down when it flares. - I love how she uses Aelin as inspiration. Literally can't wait for the passage where they meet. - SHES GOING TO SAVE EVERYONE FROM THE PARASITIC VALG ASSHOLES! - I love that she focuses on the mind-body connection. - Teaches a self defense class because of Aelin. - Found her husband because of Aelin. - Makes the servant run errands for nonexistent potions so she can have time alone with her future husband Chaol - Sleep naked - Still beautiful - Still loves to ride horses even when wheelchair bound - Dealt with his issues - Feels guilt toward not loving Nesryn. - Found his wife because of Aelin - Pays great attention to Yrene (notices the note) - Recognizes his fault in all the events in the book, but learns to forgive himself. - Decides that a life in a chair doesn't make him any less of a man. I was so worried that SJM wouldn't find a way to be fight the ableism mentality. - Huge romantic. - I love the symbol of him losing his scar like he was giving up Aelin for good Nesryn - QUEEEEEEN - Her mom's story is awful.
