Top Ten TV
Rules: Game: Add 10 gifs from your favorite shows and tag 10 people.
I was tagged by @godmerlin Thank ya so much! SOO
Tumblr media
My love! My favorite! I adore you so much! Merlin until recently was a show I would rewatch every year. THEN one of my RP servers when down for months and my mind was like HEY YOU NEED DOPAMINE KNOW THAT SHOW? It's a special intrest now. Merlin and Arthur were always my favs. But I read two merthur fanfics, realized hey this actually worked, watched the show with new eyes, decided to write a small oneshot. And then It was not a one shot, And then there was a sequal and a prequal... then I was writing more stuff! This show showed me I could write again after a long time thinking I could not.
Tumblr media
My second favoirite show is Avatar the Last Airbender I guess and my fav character is actually Aang. I like his nonconfrontationalness I kinda also have that trait and you do not often see it in fiction.
(Now from here on out they don't really have an order?
Tumblr media
I really like the show The Tudors. I don't require historical accuricy in shows about the time period that is a special interst to me. I can enjoy the shows seperatly and be like that did not happen! But the tudors is weard because it is very much NOT historicaluy accurate as a whole but somtimes, Dialouge and scenes are pretty much ripped from the firsthand acounts of the period. This is also the show were both Natalie Dormer and Henry Cavill got their start. Fun fact Katie McGrath was actually working on costume design on this show and someone told her she should try acting. She got a very small role in the show then went on to land Morgana in Merlin. ALSO this show makes me cry so MUCH
Tumblr media
I didn't get into Shadow and Bone on my first try. After season two aired I tried is again with a freind of mine and loved it. I'm so upset it was canceled!
Tumblr media
With Brigerton I actually started with the Spin off Queen Charlotte (I'm counting spin offs and their original show as the same show usually so I can have more shoes listed here WHEEEE.) Anyhoo Queen Charlotte won me over with it having a romantic male lead with mental Ilness. and I enjoyed it! So I watched Brigerton too. Eloise is pretty much teenage me.
Tumblr media
The boys and Gen V got me with its plot and commantary on American society. Alright it kinda helps that I've never really liked the idea of super heros. This is pretty much the only superhero media I consume along with one animated show my sister had me watch once. My favorite from the original Series is Hughie and my fav from Gev V is Jordan.
Tumblr media
Okay so yeah! Dr Who. I stopped watching shortly after 11 left and came back for 14 and 15. My fav doctors are 11 and 15 so far! I adore Martha and Donna the best.
Tumblr media
So The Last Kingdom was a show that my freind really liked and we watched together. I hated Uhtred in season 1 but came to enjoy him later. I LOVED These two in the gif, I WAS HERE FOR THEM SHIPPING THEM IN THE LAST SEASON. You know how that turned out if you watch the show. I have never hated on a character as much as I did on a certain king. THEM. <3
Tumblr media
I am very much enjoying House Of The Dragon. I was a GOT fan until the end season even if it started going downhil before that. No I am not team black or team green. I can see both viewpoints. So I'm just here to watch people freak out over it. And enjoy it myself. And Cheer for Healana while waiting in dred due to having read the book it's based on. I'm upset the seem to have gotten rid of Nettles though.
Tumblr media
Derry Girls is the show on this list I watched most recently. I did not really like the first episode but from there I adored them all. Clare and Orla are my Favs. But the entire cast is great.

Pride Month Fanart.
Tumblr media
As I did for the last two years here are some fanarts of various LGBTQIA+ characters, from tv series, anime, movies or comics I know. I tried giving each of them a flag to represent them, some fit well others might be a bit stretched, but I hope you’ll like them.
Please remember this is made for the sole purpose of celebration, no disrespect meant, no insult wanted, so just enjoy the roll and give me some feedback. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Deadpool, Marvel.
Tumblr media
Alucard. Castlevania, Warren Ellis.
Tumblr media
Cinzia. Cinzia, Leo Ortolani.
Tumblr media
Yolanda. Bojack Horseman. Raphael Bob-Waksberg.
Tumblr media
Benson. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Radford Sechrist.
Tumblr media
Clare, Derry Girls, Lisa McGee.
Tumblr media
Entrapta. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Noelle Stevenson.
Tumblr media
Desire. The Sandman, Neil Gaiman.
Tumblr media
Syd. One Day at a Time, Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce.
Tumblr media
Note for Entrapta and Desire:
- the LGBTQIA+ Wiki says Entrapta’s queer, it doesn’t specify which category, so I think it means she’s not considered straight (Let me know if you know anything about it!). They also give this awesome flag I didn’t know of as a symbol, so I couldn’t resist the opportunity to draw her again.
- Desire were the trickiest of all, I spent days brooding over and finally I reached a decision. They’re Non-binary for sure, but rather than having them Intersex (as Wikipedia says) I found this beautiful flag that symbolizes Genderfluid, and I believe that’s what fits Desire best. Also, I don’t think Genderfluid excludes Non-binary so I think it’s good.
Anyway, let me know if you have more info.
[I’m also really proud of Cinzia because it’s an Italian graphic novel from an Italian author, so I’m happy to spread some Italian stuff]

izzie’s favorite movies and tv shows of 2020 (aka the worst year ever)
another year, another movie and tv show review. this year has, to put it simply, sucked. 2020 has been so terribly awful that sometimes the only light you can see are the absolute bangers of movies and tv shows that came out this year. with that being said, some of the movies and tv shows didn't come out in 2020. if the are mentioned in this post it is because they either: had a season come out this year, i found them this year, or they became popular this year.
SPOILERS: it may not come as a surprise but just in case you didn't realize, there will be many spoilers ahead, read at your own risk.
tw // death, suicide, drug use, mild adult language. if any of these things might trigger you, i strongly urge you not to read this post.
there is no specific order of these shows and movies, i'm just writing as they come to mind. if you enjoy any of these movies or tv shows, or if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!
TV SHOWS
1) Santa Clarita Diet
Okay, so I know this show doesn't have anything to do with 2020. But, I found this show in 2020. I put it off for a while, thinking it wasn't my style of a show, but boy was I wrong. I loved this show. Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) is a normal suburban wife and mom. She is a real estate agent with her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant). She struggles with the fact that she isn't very adventurous. This all changes when she throws up an insane amount at a house showing. She then finds herself craving adventure, and craving human flesh. Yeah, she's a zombie. Not only is this show super hilarious, but it also shows the growth that they have with their characters and their family. I'm also team Abby (Liv Hewson) and Eric (Skyler Gisondo).
Tumblr media
2) Outer Banks
So, I'm from NC. And, watching this show at first bothered me because I can very obviously tell this show isn't actually filmed in the obx, and the geography isn't exact, but once I got past that, I loved it. John B (Chase Stokes) is a teenager that lives in the poor side of the outer banks. He has a friend group called the Pogues which consists of JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kie (Madison Bailey). They absolutely hate the Kooks, which are the rich kids. A while after John B's dad gets lost at sea, presumed dead, the group finds some evidence that may solve the mystery, and make them rich. In the process, John B falls in love with a Kook names Sarah (Madelyn Cline) whose father Ward (Charles Esten) may have a little more to do with the mystery than he let on. Through friendship, murder, and secrets, the gang may just figure out what happened to John B's dad.
Tumblr media
3) Love, Victor
Alright. I loved loved loved Love, Simon. I also really loved the book "Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda." So, when I heard about this show, I was so excited. Victor (Michael Cimino) is a teenage boy that moved to Creekwood with his family. He meets Felix (Anthony Turpel) who lives in his building. He also meets Mia (Rachel Hilson) and they begin dating. But, he also meets Benji (George Sear). While trying to get used to a new school, new friends, and a new relationship, Victor finds himself questioning his sexuality. With the help of Simon (Nick Robinson) and his friends, Victor finds it in himself to finally come out, and he admits his feelings, for Benji. This is such a good show, but I was so upset when season 1 ended on a cliff-hanger.
Tumblr media
4) The Haunting of Bly Manor
The sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. Now listen, haunting of hill house was an absolute banger. When I saw that Bly came out I nearly died. I was so excited. But, I was alone in my apartment and also a lil bitch. So, I had to wait a week until I was home with my family to watch it. Now, I was so excited to be scared, and there were a few jump scares and ominous moments, but this season was more centered around the story line of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti) and her new life in a foreign country. When seeing an ad for a live in job as an au pair. When she gets there, she meets the two young children she’ll be looking out for and the other workers of the house, including the gardener, Jamie (Amelia Eve). Throughout her stay at Bly she begins to notice weird behaviors from both children and by the end of the series she sacrifices herself for the children. Sadly, this story is being told by Jamie who Dani had fallen in love with during her stay at Bly. Now I was somewhat upset about the lack of horror, but was still very intrigued and drawn in by this series.
Tumblr media
5) Julie and the Phantoms
Alright, at first I was not gonna watch this show. I thought it looked a little too young and childish for me, but everyone was talking about it on twitter so I had to. I. Love. This. Show. This show centers around Julie (Madison Reyes). Julie is a teenage girl who, sadly, lost her mother. The one major thing she shared with her mom, was their love for music. Since her mothers passing, she gave up music. This is until, dead musicians from the 90′s show up in her garage. Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) all tragically passed away in the 90′s after eating bad street hotdogs. When Julie finds their CD in her garage, she decides to play it and they come back in ghost form. But, only she can see them. With their help, she finds her confidence to play music again. Also, she has to find away for them to stay because they’re slowly disappearing.
Tumblr media
6) Derry Girls
Bitch. I love this show. And yeah it didn’t come out in 2020. Shut up. I found this show recently after watching the cast on the holiday special of the Great British Baking Show. I loved the actors so I had to watch the show. This show focuses on Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) a 16 year old girl that lives in Derry, Northern Ireland in the 90′s. Alongside her is her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), her two friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn). During these years, a lot of people in Ireland struggled, especially because it was during wartime. Even thought this show isn’t focused heavily around the war, it’s amazing to see these teens live a fulfilling life while struggling with the state of their country, and the lack of money that their families have.
Tumblr media
7) Elite
HA. This show did have a season in 2020 so leave me alone. But bro, I love this show. At first, I didn’t watch it because I thought I could only watch the dubbed version in English, which I hate. I hate dubbed shows they look so weird. But, once I found out I could watch this show in Spanish, I fell in love. But, sadly, theres too damn much to talk about in one little post. It’s crazy. But basically it just follows the lives of teens in high school that are trying to survive. And no, not in the “I’m surviving high school,” sense. No, people be getting murdered.
Tumblr media
MOVIES (tbh i didn’t find a lot of movies good this year lmk which movies u liked this year and maybe i’ll like them!)
1) All the Bright Places
After the death of her sister, Violet (Elle Fanning) is devastated. She closes herself off, and has her parents get her out of doing school work that involves working with others. But, as time goes on, they realize she may need to start to move on. Violet then meets Finch (Justice Smith) who is enamored by Violet. He suggests they do a project together. While finding and visiting some of the smallest wonders of their state, they begin to fall for each other. While you are focusing on Violet and her mental health, you tend to miss some of the signs that Finch’s mental health isn’t great either, but by the time you do, it could be too late.
Tumblr media
2) Dangerous Lies
Hmm. This was weird for me. I had only ever seen Camila Mendes in Riverdale, and honestly, not a fan. So, Katie (Camila Mendes) and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are struggling with money. Katie decides to take a job working for an elderly man, and eventually gets her husband hired there as well. Unfortunately, he dies, but for some odd reason, leaves the house and all of his fortune, to Katie. As they get comfortable in the house, they begin to uncover some very weird and dangerous lies.
Tumblr media
3) The Devil All the Time
Ok. Iconic. You got so many hot men in this movie. Bill Skarsgård, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson. C’mon now. That’s crazy. But, this story is so long and in depth that I wouldn’t even know where to begin. This movie is a bit disturbing. It involves murder, sexual assault, killing of animals, and so much more so if that’s an issue for you please do not watch this movie. It was also quite long, but it was still good.
Tumblr media
4) After We Collided
Okay just listen. I was that teenager. I read wattpad stories and was, embarrassingly, addicted to After. This was not a great movie per say, but it was After. This is a sequel to the movie After. This movie centers around Tessa (Josephine Langford) and her recovery after her breakup with Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). Theres sex, alcohol, bad acting. The whole nine-yards. But c’mon, they’re so cute together.
Tumblr media
5) To All the Boys p.s. I Still Love You
Okay it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. This movie focuses on Lara Jean (Lana Condor) and her boyfriend Peter (Noah Centineo) and their relationship post the first movie. But of course relationships aren’t super steady, and John Ambrose McClaren (Jordan Fisher) shows up. Yeah, John Ambrose, from her letter. They become closer and Lara Jean has to decide who she wants to be with. Spoiler, it’s Peter. BOOOOOOO justice for John Ambrose McClaren, he deserved better.

“How is it my fault?!”
“Well, for starters, none of this would have happened if you didn’t start riding the crazy bitch as soon as she stepped foot in the fucking school.”
“I didn’t want to ride her - forgive me for wanting to expand our social group!”
“Like fuck I’ll forgive you, Clare - Mammy’s gonna have my head! All for that fucking Jenny, at that. I swear to God - ”
As expected, Michelle’s rant had started the moment they got off the stage, covered from head to toe with tomato juice, Jenny and Ashleen whining about being attacked for no reason to sister Michael as Mae took off running, leaving a gaping Clare in her wake. Her Granda and Orla had just stood there, enjoying the whole thing while chewing on some pop corn before going back to their dance, leaving the four of them to head back alone.
Alone, and, again, covered from head to toe with tomato juice.
Jesus, what a night.
Next to her, James chuckles, and Erin looks over to see his amused smirk as he shakes his head. Their eyes meet, and she can’t help her own smile.
“Deirdre really is going to kill her when she finds out about the card. I mean, it’s gonna be even worse than that time we used their phone to do pranks all night,” and he laughs.
“Yeah, I heard about that - it’s always in the top 3 when my aunt gets mad and starts listing Michelle’s greatest accumplishments to her.”
In front of them, Michelle starts chasing a distressed Clare, a handful of sauce threateningly straightened out in front of her. Erin’s not sure whether she should be amused or feel pity for the poor girl.
“Do you think she realizes that if she gets it on the dress she bought Clare too, she’ll be in even more trouble?”
“Absolutely - I just think she’s panicking over her upcoming year of grounding, and desperately needs to take it out on someone in good old Michelle fashion,” James deadpans, and it’s her turn to laugh.
They really are the biggest group of eejits in town.
“Well, at least one dress will definitely get a refund. Not that this will change much for aunt Deirdre, but still.”
Erin snorts. ”Well, every cloud, as they say.” With the thought of that stupid dress comes the humiliation she’s felt for that hour and a half she’s waited, and something in her chest tightens.
She should have known, really. Guys like John Paul didn't go for girls like her - they went for models, pretty girls, and he probably went back to his the minute they left the coffee shop. She didn't know what she expected. Not then, not ever, whether it was with him, or David Donnelly, or any of the million of lads she'd fancied.
Truth was, she wasn't anything special. Not pretty, not that smart, or that class - not even a good writer, despite what she kept telling herself. Why should any of them be interested, really ?
She definitely is the biggest eejit in all of Derry.
“I think you were right, you know,” James says, startling her back to reality. If he notices the unshed tears in her eyes, he’s kind enough not to say anything. Of course he is.
He smiles, and it’s as soft as his voice. “Changing clothes, I mean,” he adds, gesturing to her Easter, once yellow dress. Then, panicks. “Not that the other one didn’t suit you, it did, but just - “
He seems to hesitate for a second, looking away for just a beat before sighing - at himself, she thinks. “You looked really good tonight, Erin.”
He’s looking right at her, and just like that, there’s that feeling again. The one she had when he showed up at her door tonight. The one she has sometimes when he says something sweet or funny to her, or smiles, or when she looks at him and just -
She’s not exactly sure what it is. Probably nothing, of course. Definitely nothing, in fact - it’s just a James feeling. He’s one of her best friends, after all, it's normal that he feels special.
It feels warm in her stomach, a bit funny. She smiles, and when he responds in kind, it grows even warmer, funnier.
He eyes the sauce dripping from her arms, then, and smirks. “I mean, the sauce even adds a little something, really.” Erin rolls her eyes despite the laugh threatening to escape, and bumps him away with her shoulder.
“Well, you clean up well yourself - bad pun intended.”
His dorky smile matches his dorky scarf, and suit, and general self. “I’m really sorry for making you miss your Doctor Who night, though.”
She really is - it did feel important to him.
“You didn’t make me miss anything - I chose to." This time, something flutters in her belly. “There’ll be others, it’s fine.”
It’s subtle, but the slight worry in his voice when he continues makes her look away from her friends and at him again. “I’m sorry you didn’t get to with John Paul.”
Erin simply shrugs. “It’s fine - I’m really glad we went together instead, anyway.”
The moonlight reflects in his eyes a certain way, and for a second, it feels like they’re shining.
“Yeah?”
She nods, because well - truth is, she really is.
"Yeah - thanks, James."
He smiles back. "My pleasure."
In front of them, Michelle lets out another loud, colourful string of words, making them both look up. Rolling her eyes at her friend, Erin brings her attention back to James.
“So - watching Doctor Who with you stepdad, eh?”
“Religiously.”
“Tell me about him - your stepdad, I mean,” she adds at his confused expression. It turns fond, and she’s glad she asked.
For the rest of the way home, he does.

The Secret
Aka my attempt to write Derry Girls fanfic because oof I’ve been hit hard by hyperfixation with it recently – anyway enjoy :)
They should’ve known that it would come out eventually. And in a suitably chaotic fashion too, considering the track record of them and their friends.
It had all started not long after the president’s visit, when Erin’s heart had soared to new, impossible heights as he’d proudly declared that he was a Derry Girl, one of them, forever.
The feelings that they’d both truly started to notice when they’d been stirred up as he’d acted as her knight in shining armour on the night of the prom, finally came out in full, glorious colour that same evening.
They’d all slept over at Erin’s that night, celebrating his decision to stay well into the night. But both James and Erin had shifted uncomfortably in the huddle the group always tended to form on such occasions.
They were both tightly wrapped up in thoughts of each other. Whilst he was unable to scrub away the image of her heartbroken face when he’d told the girls he was leaving, she couldn’t stop thinking of how she couldn’t imagine her world without him, how she’d only truly realised in that moment that she didn’t want to hide how she felt any longer.
In their restlessness, they’d both untangled themselves and headed downstairs.
He’d greeted her with a shy “hey” and she’d waved back, both of them not wanting to say why they were really there.
But the second they looked up at each other, a conversation had passed between them. They’d shared a long, loaded look that said “this is real. And I feel the same way”.
The feelings that they’d pushed down for so long crackled and fizzed, golden sparks cascading across their chests until, finally, finally, they came crashing together.
Almost a month of warm looks, sneaking off to hurriedly snog in shadow slanted corners and holding hands under tables when the others weren’t looking later and they still hadn’t told them.
They hadn’t meant to turn it into a big secret, but first they’d wanted to figure out if this thing between them would last and then they’d been frightened that their friends would be upset that they’d kept it a secret. And that was without thinking of the reaction they could have to them becoming a couple in the first place.
Things had been going pretty well secret-wise, until this fateful morning on the bus home from school. Michelle had spent the entire day trying to persuade Erin to go out on a double date with a guy she fancied and his friend. And at this point, Erin was starting to run out of excuses.
“Come on Erin, he’s such a ride! And his friend’s ok too, why won’t you just help me out?”, Michelle now says, flopping back into her seat and sighing dramatically whilst stamping her foot in frustration.
“I’m just... I’m just not interested in seeing anyone at the moment”, Erin responds looking out of the bus window, trying to act as nonchalant as possible.
“Oh I assumed it would be because of you and James. Are you not together anymore?”, Orla says curiously, finally tuning into the conversation, having been preoccupied by her fingers all day.
At that, everyone snaps round. And stares. And stares.
Whilst Orla wonders what she said to make everyone pay attention, Clare is the first to speak after what feels like an eternity.
“Oh my god, oh my god, you guys are? You’re... oh my god”, she says with her head up against the bus window and her hand on her forehead.
“Calm down Clare, she’s just being Orla”, Michelle responds. “Like Erin would ever want to ride James”, she adds with a laugh.
Any chance that Erin and James have to respond (and any chance James has to defend himself against the last thing Michelle said), are swiftly disrupted by Orla dragging out something that Erin definitely didn’t know she had: Erin’s diary.
She reads it aloud in a casual tone, as if she isn’t revealing her friend’s biggest secret.
“This is different to John Paul or any of the others. This feels solid, real. He’s so kind and sweet and I love his curly hair and I get a whole army of butterflies flying around whenever he so much as holds my hand. And he’s such a good kisser too, I love it when he–“
With that, Erin swiftly grabs the diary back – but the damage has already been done.
“Christ, I think I’m gonna boke... you and James? Are you serious? Why?” Michelle says.
“Well Orla did just tell you why...” Erin responds. The look Michelle gives her in response tells her that that wasn’t the right thing to say.
Trying to calm the situation down, Clare pipes up again.
“I mean it’s a bit weird and I do have some concerns about what’s gonna happen if you break up, but I guess... if you’re really happy together then I’m happy for you”.
She smiles affectionately at them at the end of her mini speech, taking both their hands.
“Thank you Clare”, James says giving her hand a squeeze.
Michelle sits in silence for a while, as if she’s thinking long and hard about the revelations that had just come out. But then she speaks too.
“I mean it’s still fuckin’ weird, but if you really like each other then I’m happy for you I guess”, she finally says.
As they’re stepping off the bus, James stops Erin with a gentle touch.
“Did you really write all that stuff about me?”, he asks with the warm smile she’s grown to like (possibly even love) slowly for months now.
She backs away slightly, blushing before shyly confessing “yeah, yeah I did”.
He grins, then kisses her softly, not caring who’s watching (and entirely unaware that the others are trying to look away).

What to Binge Watch While in Quarantine
Do you feel yourself running out of things to watch on DVR or you don’t know which streaming platform to explore for your next watch? Or do you just find yourself with more time on your hands and don’t know what to do? If you answered yes to any of these questions I hope this thread helps you out. A lot of these picks are some of my top choices no matter what the case (which means I might have spoken about them before-possibly A LOT. Or they may be upcoming March picks, which just shows how great they really are). So without further a do here are some things you should consider bingeing as you maintain your social distancing and seek a form of escape...
Need a laugh?
Tumblr media
Check out DERRY GIRLS
This half hour comedy (which honestly should be longer because the episodes go by too fast and there are not enough of them in the seasons) follows Erin Quinn as she navigates high school during the 1990s in Northern Ireland. She attends an all girl Catholic school along with her cousin Orla, and friends Michelle, Clare and James. (That’s right James also attends the all girls school. He’s a Brit and it would be too dangerous for him to attend the boys school during this time of civil unrest.) As the girls experience trivial problems like how to get to a concert or how to avoid people eating pot brownies at a funeral, the historic problems play out in the background. During the pandemic we’re experiencing we can take away living in the moment like these girls from Derry and not overly stressing on big world problems.
Streaming on Netflix
Wanting more of a ROM COM kind of escapism?
Tumblr media
Then look no further than the Netflix original Set it Up.
Two assistants, Harper and Charlie, work in the same building and are experiencing a very “Devil wears Prada” relationship with each of their bosses. They meet one night at work after hours and believe they have the worse boss. A plan gets set in motion to set up their terrible bosses with each other. Then when they’re happy, the two assistants can have their lives back. You already see where this is probably going and who this love story is actually following: Harper and Charlie. I’ve been raving about this movie since 2018 when it first came out and it is still just as great as the first time I watched it. It honestly still gives hope for a great romantic comedy.
Streaming on Netflix.
Up for a good mystery?
Tumblr media
Give Cw’s Nancy Drew a try.
One of the Cw’s latest new shows this season, Nancy Drew, re-invents the classic stories we all know and love with a more darker and supernatural spin. If you like Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina then this might be right up your alley. However, as someone who doesn’t watch Riverdale and didn’t fall in love with Sabrina, I am still a big fan of this new adaptation of Nancy Drew. I feel like I’ve experienced a roller coaster of reviews with this one, from really liking it to not so much (because there was too much of the supernatural involved and I just wanted a good mystery) to now really liking it again. I think I just needed some time to understand the vibe of it all and now that I really know the characters I’m liking it a lot. I’m also excited it has been renewed for a second season.
You can catch up with all 16 episodes now on the CW app or online cwtv.com. New episodes return in April.
Want more of a magical kind of mystery?
Tumblr media
Then you gotta watch Locke and Key.
Thanks to Netflix’s new trending list I decided to check out Locke and Key and I am so happy I did. It was fantastic and I can’t wait for season two. Based on the graphic novel by the same name, the series follows the Locke siblings who have just witnessed their father’s murder before traveling cross-country with their mother to his ancestral home, Key house. The house is filled with these magical keys that all have different properties from getting into your mind and looking at your deepest thoughts and desires, a key that opens any door and can take you anywhere, or one that opens a music box that lets you control people. The kids get drawn to the keys and unlock a deeper mystery of the keys and how their dad was involved in it all. Plus, there’s a sinister presence that is after the keys and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Definitely worth checking out!
Streaming on Netflix.
Need some music in your life?
Tumblr media
You must watch Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
This show gets better and better each episode. After a freak accident, Zoey gets the ability to hear people’s innermost feelings through song and dance. She’s the only who can hear it, which means she needs to help the person get through the problem in their life. Each episode has a good amount of musical numbers from popular songs to classics and even musicals. Great cast. There is not one character I don’t like. If you are a fan of Glee I would highly suggest checking it out. It’s the show that often gets compared to it, but you don’t have to be a fan of Glee to enjoy it. I wasn’t a die-heart fan and I’m loving Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. It’s a feel good watch that is just what we need at a difficult time like this.
Watch it on NBC on demand.
Did you love High School Musical?

Then why haven’t you watched High School Musical the Musical the Series?
This show has been promoted since Disney Plus was released back in November. There was a lot of hype over it, which made me unsure if it would be worth it, but I gotta say that I really enjoyed it overall. A cross between Glee and the Office, HSMTMTS follows students who attend the school the Disney Original Movie Series was filmed. When the new drama teacher comes to “East High” she is shocked that the drama department has never put on the musical for themselves. There’s a love triangle(s), a large cast of talented singers, drama and mystery. Great new songs that will get stuck in your head and the promise for a second season with a brand new musical to perform. (I’m just bummed it’s Beauty and the Beast and not HSM 2). The episodes are only about 25 minutes and you’ll find yourself finished with the 10 episode season in a matter of hours.

Feeling a telenovela musical?

Then Violetta is for you!
Drama, laughs, love, and music (with more catchy songs you won’t be able to get out of your head), this Disney original from Buenos Aires has it all. You will get sucked into the episodes just like I did and be shocked how far into the series you are in such a short amount of time. I watched all 80 episodes (that are about 40 minutes a piece) in a matter of 2 months. (And now I’m upset that Disney Plus hasn’t released season 2!!) The show follows Violetta Castillo who has just returned home after traveling the globe with her father for years. She wants to be like a regular kid and attend school rather than having a tutor, but her father forbids it. He’s over protective because her mother was a famous singer who then tragically died. He ties it back to the music and forbids Violetta from performing as well. Throughout the first season, she is exposed to a music school where she makes new friends, enemies, and becomes a part of a love triangle (naturally). In the process she rises to be one of the most talented performers, but constantly is worried her dad will find out the truth and make them move again.

Needing a Sci-Fi fix?

Tune into the Cw’s Pandora.
The show aired on the Cw this summer and needs more love and recognition. I was surprised over how much I enjoyed it. When each episode aired I wanted to watch it right away, which then made me upset because I had to wait a week, but you won’t have that problem! The show takes place in the future in the year 2199. Our main character Jax witnesses her family getting tragically killed and is forced back to Earth to live with her uncle who runs a training academy. Jax enrolls in the school and makes several friends a long the way (there are so many ships on this show that I often had trouble deciding who I liked with who). While at the academy she starts to piece together that her family’s death might not have been an accident and that more lies behind it as well as her own past. There were times when I was confused by how much time had passed from the last episode because characters would be very close or references would get made and I’d be like: Did I miss something? But despite all of that I really enjoyed it and am happy there will be a season 2. It feels very Cw in the best way possible, so if you already watch a lot of shows on the network then you should give this one a try.
Watch the entire first season on the CW app or online @ cwtv.com

Then add Daybreak to your queue.
This Netflix original had been on my list for a while and once the Corona virus was getting more and more serious I felt I needed something to take my mind off of it and also to have a good laugh. Daybreak is doing just that. (I am currently still watching the series so I don’t have a full review just yet.) This show takes place during the aftermath of a nuclear attack. In this apocalypse adults have turned into “zombie-like figures” who are muttering the last thought they had (often a very funny one). The kids are now in charge and each clique in high school has a territory. We follow social-outcast/new kid at school. Josh who is on the search for the love of his life, Sam, that he lost during the night of the explosion. Along the way he finds allies and they form their own tribe. This show is constantly breaking the fourth wall, having characters directly talk and look at us. I thought I would hate it, but I actually really like that feature and am kind of upset now that Josh has not narrated an episode in a while.
Now streaming on Netflix.

Add Kelsey’s 100 Baby Challenge to your Watch Later
Throughout last year, Buzzfeed multiplayer’s Kelsey Immpicciche took up the 100 baby challenge in the Sims 4. What she thought would be a fun challenge and a couple videos blew up into a full series spanning 50 episodes, multiple spin-off series and even a line of clothing (which I am happy to say I own a sweatshirt). Who would have thought watching someone play the Sims and try to have 100 babies with all different parents would be so much fun? Kelsey has made me want to play the Sims and have my very own 100 baby challenge. This challenge is hilarious and fun. I loved all of Kelsey’s commentary as she plays as well as reading the comment section where everyone tries to give her tips. It’s so exciting to see how so many people got involved in this challenge. I hope she continues for season 2 soon!
You can watch all of season 1 on YouTube.

Venture back in time and to Prince Edward Island with Anne with an E.
L.M. Montgomery’s beloved series is adapted with a fresh new take on her classic characters and setting. Across Anne with an E’s three seasons we watch Anne Shirley come to Green Gables and form a family with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. We watch her shake up school and form life long friends. Something that I love about this series is that it is able to incorporate so many of the issues our society is facing today. While not always 100% accurate to the original novels, the show takes liberties with the source material and expands upon it to create something audiences can see as an echo of our conflicts. While this has been a problem for some, I think, once you realize this, you can enjoy the series even more. I know of so many people who have turned to the book after watching and falling in love with this series. Now, during this time, it is the perfect form of escapism. With each season spanning about 10 episodes you will be done and wanting more just like I am. I’m still upset the series has not been renewed.
Streaming now on Netflix.
Early Releases:

Yuletide 2019
Hello! I am misantlery on ao3.
Under the read more are specific details about what I want for Derry Girls, Mad Men, Queen’s Thief, Into the Spiderverse, Fleabag, and The Eagle.
General Likes
PINING, awkwardness, people being inexplicably fond of each other, breaking up/making up fic, people being emotionally repressed, denial, FORCED INTIMACY (pretending to be dating, bed sharing, huddling for warmth, trapped in elevator/closet/room together), amnesia fic, first times, hurt/comfort, trust issues, hooker aus, robot aus, happily ever afters.
I am good with g-rated or nc-17 rated fic, but if you’re comfortable writing porn here are some things I am into:
bad decision sex sexual experimentation fun/goofy/‘bad’ sex sex pollen intimacy issues
General Dislikes
rape/non con, alpha/beta/omega dynamics, mundane aus, soulmate marks aus, 24/7 BDSM, non canonical major character death, harm to animals, unhappy endings, mpreg, issuefic, harm to children.
If you want to know some more about what i’m into for each fandom/want some prompts, then keep reading but don’t stress about following each prompt to the letter or anything. They’re here for inspiration!
Why are you so into The Purge as a scenario???
Listen, this took me by surprise too. Explaining it now makes me sound like a crazy person. But I will try.
The Purge is a horror movie franchise, set in a dystopian near-future America where all crime is legal for one day a year, including murder. Pretty dark, edgy, violent stuff! I am not especially interested in the dark and grim sociopolitical realities of this situation, in case my prompts don’t make that clear. I am here for the absurdity, and in the case of most of these fandoms, for the weird and hilarious contrast between my requested fandom and the over the top violence of The Purge. You don’t even need to watch any of The Purge movies, because let’s be real, I don’t care about the world building or logistics here, and I’m not interested in a true crossover so much as I am in borrowing the “all crime is legal for a day” scenario. If any of the Purge prompts speak to you, read some wiki summaries and have at it.
Don’t feel obligated to write those prompts if these aren’t scenarios that appeal to you! And if you do write them, please, don’t make them super dark. Again, the appeal here is the absurdity, not the grim violence of it all.
Derry Girls: Erin Quinn, Clare Devlin, Michelle Mallon, James Maguire
Let me start off by saying you don’t need to include all four in a fic if you don’t want to! I’m perfectly happy with any configuration you end up putting together. If you want to include all the gang, that’s great too! I love everybody nominated so feel free to go wherever your imagination takes you.
I love how the group will spend all day making fun of each other but always come together when it counts. I would definitely enjoy you keeping with the show and doing something with that. Everyone going up on stage to perform with Orla and James realizing that he belongs as a Derry Girl are two of my favorite scenes.
Prompts:
Erin/Clare: I would love a fic where Erin and Clare really do go to prom together instead of the whole thing with Mae and John Paul. Maybe they go for real, or maybe Erin goes as her fake date to support her and then they have to continue the charade after prom. Erin would definitely do a lot of research and throw herself fully into being the best lesbian she could be, which obviously would include practicing kissing Clare a whole lot. I love a good fake dating fic that has the couple accidentally catching feelings. I also love the idea of everyone thinking she’s just making a statement and her dad being the only one to realize her feelings are for real.
I also love the idea of them bonding over a crush on Ms. De Brun, either after the first time or having her roll back into town and Erin going full Dean Pelton “This better not awaken anything in me.”
Michelle/James: I’m very into their combative but loving relationship. Michelle asking him to stay in the finale *__* I’m also very much into introducing a cousinfucking aspect but if you aren’t, don’t worry. I also enjoy how they are in the show, so if you keep their relationship at that level I’ll still be perfectly happy. If you are into it, Michelle totally gives off a “stop making love to me while I’m trying to fuck you” vibe and I would really enjoy seeing how annoyed she would be to realize he was more than just a ride to her.
Michelle gets caught in a time loop and has to figure out how to escape it. Maybe she lets James leave Derry all those other times and the version we see is the one she got right. Or maybe James and Michelle both get caught up in a loop and try increasingly ridiculous schemes to get out of it.
Or maybe Michelle’s mom gave up James’ room when she thought he was leaving with his mom and now James and Michelle have to share a room. They have to deal with all the feelings the finale brought up.
If you are more inspired by one of the other configurations please go for it. I loved James being instantly on Clare’s side when she came out. Finding out how Michelle and/or Erin and/or Clare’s friendship started would be fun. I liked James coming through for Erin when she got stood up. If you are more inspired by James and Erin please keep it platonic. I like them just as friends. I’m definitely open to James, Michelle, and Erin being queer/bi/etc if you’re interested in including that in any of these prompts.
Something based on this post: https://v1als.tumblr.com/post/187672633662/meanwhile-in-the-other-derry . If this appeals to you please go as wild as you want. Fic about the Derry Girls bullying a clown to death? Awesome! Fic about Mary Quinn beating the shit out of a dumb clown with a frying pan or Sister Michael being incredibly unimpressed by It? Love it. If you want to go to an angsty place I’m into it but I would prefer it doesn’t end with anybody perma-dead. I'd be equally happy with ships or no ships for this. No need to bring in the rest of the It characters unless you feel like it.
Mad Men: Bob Benson, Pete Campbell
This is probably my forever yuletide fandom! The show’s been over for a while now, but I still have an enormous soft spot for the love story of Bob and Pete, and would read any number of variations on it.
I don’t mind if you ignore certain parts of canon (s7) or go canon divergent, you can also follow canon if want (Bob shows up in Wichita??) GO WILD.
Shipping Bob/Pete began as a joke for me, but I do ship it for real. I like that Bob is all *_________* about Pete and Pete is simultaneously disgusted and intrigued. He might not be gay, but he’s definitely into someone who’s into him.
Also, if you just want to write about Bob I’d be really interested in his past and what the whole “manservant” deal was. We pretty much know nothing about him and I’d be interested in some backstory, but I’m not exactly looking for Bob/OMC PWP. In case it seemed that way!
btw, https://vimeo.com/132033248 is a supercut of all Bob/Pete scenes (pw: kneetouching). Enjoy!
Prompts:
Fake dating: The CEO of a big company is secretly gay and Pete thinks pretending to be gay will form a bond of solidarity that will give him an edge, but the CEO mistakes this for interest and Pete scrambles to come up with an excuse to get out of doing anything gay and he comes up with, “I have a lover! You may have met him…”
They go to a gay bar lolz and awkwardness ensue.
Pete molds Bob into the Perfect Ad Man and falls for him in the process. Basically “My Fair Lady” with a hillbilly and sodomy.
Groundhog day fic: Pete has to go through the same day again and again, tries to get help from Ken, Peggy, etc, and then comes to the realization that only Bob believes him.
Bob is a conman who starts out trying to seduce Pete as part of a long con, but ends up falling in love.
what if Bob is a spy who mistakes Pete for his contact because Pete compliments his tie? what kind of spy and mistaken identity shenanigans could ensue?
What if Bob and Pete + the Purge??? I feel like Bob would do well. He’s got secrets. Maybe one of those secrets is a facility with weaponry. Also, sodomy wasn’t legal in New York until the 1980s. What if someone in the office awkwardly asks Bob what he’s going to do during the Purge and Pete is appalled, because how uncouth! Everyone knows you don’t ask people what they’re going to do during the Purge! And then Bob makes some veiled comment about how he always spends his Purges banging dudes, and Pete is horribly Intrigued because sex stuff is never a Purge thing he’d thought of.
Queen’s Thief - Megan Whalen Turner: Gen, Attolia
I love these books, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I love Attolia, Gen, and their relationship best. I didn't see the twist where Gen confessed his love to Attolia coming at all the first time I read it and I frantically read to the end to make sure that everything turned out ok. As soon as I got there, I flipped to the front and started again. Somewhere between that moment and when I reached that scene on the stairs again, they became one of my all time OTPs. To be honest, it was probably when she cut off his hand.
I just love them so much, with how ruthless Attolia is and how clever Gen is, and all I want is a fic that focuses on them and their sort of messed up dynamic and that will be enough. I also love Kamet/Costis and would be happy to see something about them in addition to some Gen/Attolia content. I'm open to canon divergent AUs, but, please, no AUs where Attolia doesn't cut off his hand.
Prompts:
Part of what I love so much about this pairing is how terrifyingly competent they are together, and what a good team they make. So I’d love a fic about something like, what if some of their barons are stupid enough to think that Gen and Attolia can be turned on each other? Obviously Gen and Attolia have to go crush them together.
They have to go on some kind of diplomatic visit to Eddis or Sounis or maybe something further afield and absolutely nothing goes as planned. Again, show me how terrifyingly competent they are! Or just go for the lolz: how hilariously wrong can things go, and how do Gen and Attolia deal with it? You can also go the action/adventure route: do they have to get themselves out of a sticky situation by fighting or sneaking around?
Speaking of sneaking around: I’m also into the many possibilities of the scenario where Gen teaches Attolia how to sneak into his bedroom for once. Sexy, funny, emotional, all of the above, I’m into any of it!
Part of the messed up dynamic that I love with these two is how fear and love and guilt are all mixed up together for them, after Attolia cuts off her hand. So I’d be really interested in anything about how/if Gen gets over his fear of Attolia in bed or not, but maybe definitely at least in part through sex.
And because I’ve got a soft spot for Costis and Kamet: Gen and Attolia attend Costis and Kamet's wedding, in disguise or not. Maybe it makes them think of their own wedding! Maybe everyone just reflects sappily on True Love! Or maybe someone gets up to shenanigans!  It’s up to you, dear writer!
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: May Parker, Olivia Octavius
"My friends call me Liv," Doc Ock says to Miles. And then when she walks into Aunt May's house, May says, "Oh great, it's Liv." I would really love to read a lot more about what's going on with that. Sex is not a must, but I do ship them and anything about a romantic relationship would be great. If you're not into that, then I'd love to read more exploring their dynamic in general -- May is so fondly exasperated and not remotely surprised, but they both immediately go to the mat.
Prompts:
Pre-movie college backstory. Were they rivals-turned-lovers in college? Friendly but disinterested roommates who spent all their time playing science cloak-and-dagger games before realizing over spring break that their nemesis was their roommate?
Pre-movie Spidey parallels backstory. May was clearly supporting Peter as he developed into your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and Octavia has been... what? We know she's CEO of Alchemax during the movie -- was she promoted? Is she the founder? I'd love something exploring their parallel paths, May as a behind-the-scenes string-puller and Liv as a mad scientist, with Peter in the middle working to counter Liv more explicitly.
Post-movie, MIles goes to visit Aunt May and finds Liv there. They have a really awkward tea.
Post-movie, Liv tries to make a comeback. May rolls her eyes and gets to work.
Purge!AU: What happens to the two of them on Purge night? Does May reluctantly go out to try to stop whatever Liv is up to this time? Do they end up working together for some reason? Do they declare it amateur night and just order a pizza?
Also, I would be interested in a fun fic where May and Liv both end up sort of awkwardly mentoring Miles because Miles and Liv end up in a classic supervillian-superhero team-up against some other big villain or disaster.
Fleabag: Fleabag, Priest
So I watched all of Fleabag in a weekend fueled by pizza and beer and loved all of it. But, not gonna lie, what really got me to sit down and finally watch the show was all this talk of a hot priest romance going on in season 2. Others may never believe Moriarty from BBC Sherlock could bring it like that, but I saw the light.
I’m absolutely fine with shippy fic for this fandom. If you want to go down the hardcore priest fucking road then go wild, but I did love everything about the show. Fleabag herself and all of her issues, Claire (and her haircut) and everyone else. Whatever you can write for me that captures how heartbreaking and funny the show is would be great, I'm sure.
Prompts:
With all this talk of the cool Pope maybe considering letting priests marry let’s pretend that the Vatican really does that and now priests everywhere can get married. How would Fleabag feel when she sees the news on the telly? How would the Priest? Imagine them bumping into each other after the news come out.
I think one of the most interesting things about season 2 was the Priest knowing when Fleabag was breaking the fourth wall. What if the fox is his personal fourth wall that no one sees but Fleabag that he can’t leave behind until he deals with his shit?
Purge prompt: Brexit finally happens and the new PM decides to try this Purge thing the Americans have been doing every year. How would Fleabag fare in the purge? Would she stay locked inside with her family having to fight off Stepmother, who’s down to do some purging herself and is scarily good at killing people? Would she go off to hunt Martin? Maybe fucking a Priest doesn’t count if it’s during purge night.
The Eagle | Eagle of the Ninth: Marcus Flavius Aquila, Esca Mac Cunoval
I love this stupid movie so much.I love Marcus, Esca, and Marcus/Esca and would prefer them shipped. UST/pre-slash is okay, too, if you'd rather not write a romance, but please at least leave me the hope that it's going to happen!
What I really love about Marcus/Esca is how even when Marcus is the one who holds official power over Esca as his owner, Esca is always the one with the power in their relationship because Marcus is so desperately into him. I love Marcus pining for Esca but being too honourable to do anything about it, while Esca is too angry at himself for pining for Marcus to do anything about it. I also enjoy Marcus having Roman issues about wanting Esca to fuck him and I don't care if they're not entirely historically accurate. I would just be very into Marcus having very rigid ideas about sex between men and struggling with wanting Esca to fuck him and Esca helping him overcome that.
Some general things about them that I love, both in the movie and in potential fic: cultural miscommunications, or just them worrying enough about miscommunication that they don't even try. Marcus having such utter blind trust in Esca. Esca having to relearn how to let somebody care about him.
Prompts:
That said, my first request is PWP. /o\ I would really, really love a Seal People Made Them Do It fic. Maybe the Seal Prince wants Esca to prove Marcus is his slave, or maybe there's a general boning festival going on and it'd be weird/suspicious for Esca not to participate, I don't know (and not too concerned with historical accuracy on this one). But I'm very into the danger element of they have to fake it for their safety/survival and the intimacy element of them understanding each other with few or no words. Like from Esca's POV, he gets that Marcus understands and consents, or from Marcus', understanding that if he doesn't want to go along with it, they can try to kill their way out. And, okay, if Marcus is a little ashamed of being into it, I am very, very there for that. :9
I would also love a roadtrip fic! The movie clearly ends with Marcus setting Esca up to choose their next adventure, so what does he choose? I don't have a lot of specific plot ideas for that, but I would definitely love to see them on another journey together, maybe hitting all the fun roadtrip tropes, like huddling for warmth in the woods and there being only one bed in their room at the hospitia.
Or, if you're feeling up to something fun and weird, a Purge AU. Honestly, Ancient Rome is a setting that seems oddly suited to hosting the Purge and I would love to see it either played relatively straight to dark and dramatic effect, or humorously deconstructed, with Esca exasperated by more let's-kill-people Roman nonsense.
I would also really be into fic from Esca's POV, holding Marcus during the surgery and contemplating letting twitch and die, and then ~looking into his eyes~ and feeling sick with himself for having such a thought about the man who saved his life, even if he is a Roman asshole. Perhaps followed by all the times Esca could have had him killed or let him die and deciding not to because HONOR until he realizes no, actually, I just really, really want to bone this dude. And then he follows up on that realization, in whatever romantic form that takes.

After The Prom
Ok so I wrote a little Derry Girls story to get you all in a cracker mood for tonight’s series finale. It’s inspired by S02E05 and focuses on what might have happened between Erin and James after the Prom. You can read it here (down below). I hope you enjoy! This my first ever fic so please go easy on me, thanks!
After The Prom
Erin and Michelle were walking to school on their own for once. Orla had left early to hit the sweet shop to stock up for the week and Claire hadn’t shown up yet. “Why are you acting weird Erin?”. “I’m not acting weird...no way….Jose!”. “You are you. You’re making Clare look like that little fat fella? What’s he called? Dead calm all the time? The wee statue fella?”. “Buddha?”. “Aye that’s him”. Erin rolled her eyes.
”Well maybe it's because you mum found out about the dresses and you know robbing her credit card”. “Oh that”. “Oh that! THAT is just fraud Michelle!”. “Wise up will ya”. “She could have rang the police!”. “My ma’s no rat. She doesn’t deal with them peelers”. “No you’re just grounded for a week”. “It will be grand calm down. She’ll forget about it by Wednesday”. “You definitely didn’t mention my name?”. “Cool the jets. John Paul did you a favour there. I was able to bring your one back”. He’d done her another favour. Letting her see what was right in front of her all along. They walked on in silence for a few minutes. Erin’s mind drifted back to the present and she started to panic. Michelle was never this quiet. Really? What the hell? Why wasn’t she speaking? Had James mentioned something?
“Where do ye get to on Saturday?”. Erin laughed. She was laughing too much. Why was she laughing?! The question wasn't even funny. “Saturday?”. “Saturday. After the prom? Where we got dunked in tomato juice for no fucking reason! We should have let Jenny Joyce get drenched. Jesus why are you being such a melt Erin?”. Shit what does she know! “I am not!”. “I just thought you might have got off with someone”. Shit shit shit. “But I smelt like a lasagne Michelle”. “Didn’t stop me”. “Jesus Michelle!”. “My dress was ruined didn’t mean my night wasn’t going to be”. “You really thought I’d gotten off someone?”. “ Yeah. I didn't see you leaving and Orla said you got in after her”. “Well she still can’t tell the time so...”. “But then I was like this is Erin. Gerry Adams would get off with the Queen quicker than Erin would get off with a fella”. “Thanks alot”. “I can’t believe Orla took your Grandda Joe to the Prom”. “I thought it was kind of sweet actually”. “Aye. He’s not bad looking for an aul fella”. “Oh my god Michelle!”. “I’m just saying...”. “Please don’t say it...”. “If I was like 10 years older..”. “Oh god..”. “I would”. “Jesus”. “I mean I would ri...”. “I get the picture Michelle I’m gonna boke”
“Where did you all get to!!!”. Claire had jumped up on them with Orla. Michelle and Erin jumped. “Jesus where did she come from?”. “Fuck knows!”. “I was the one who had to deal with everything! I was the one that had to explain to Jennie Joyce! I was the one who had to apologise to her! I was the one who had to stop Mae”. “She wrestled her to the ground” Orla had started to follow the conversation all the while chewing on the penny jellies she had just bought. “Seriously?”. “Aye. It was cracker”. “Don’t pretend you didn’t enjoy that Claire”. “Michelle!”. “I enjoyed it!” added Orla. “It’s not funny you all ran off and left me!”. “You had wee James to help you..Knight in Shiteing Armour...you should have just blamed it on him!”. Erin blushed. “He ran off too! I was all on my own. And I was trying not to sweat on that stupid dress”. She opened her bag and handed the dress over. “Claire this is a mass of creases. You could have at least ironed it”. “You’re lucky you’re even getting it back at all Michelle!”. “Her ma knows” Erin wanted to keep the conversation focused on the dresses not what happened after. “Sweet suffering jesus!”. “Aye. But I kept your names out of it”. “Thank god” Claire blessed herself in relief. “For now!”. “Well when we get to school you’ll have to go and apologise to Jenny Joyce”. “I suppose so”. “No fucking way. If wasn’t for the wee Prom Queen I wouldn’t have had my dress ruined and I wouldn’t have missed out on the shift”. “You told me you got off with someone”. “Yeah only one out of the two. Doesn’t count”. “Well at least try. I think she thinks we were in on it with Mae”. “Good call there Claire, you can really pick them”. “I didn’t know she was deranged did I?”. “You should have just went with James...actually no. Still not that desperate to choose him over the psychobitch”. Erin wanted to defend him but couldn’t. She thought of him arriving at the door. The way he looked at her as she came down the stairs. Even in that Easter dress.
“Where is the little fuck wit anyway?”. Erin was back to reality. “What?”. “Where’s James?”. “I don’t know. How would I know? Jesus he’s your cousin Michelle, can you not keep track of him yourself!”. “Seriously, no need to cack yourself! That's Claire’s job. What the fuck is up with you?”. Erin panicked. The three of them staring were at her waiting for her to speak. Do they know? How could they know? They can’t. Michelle would have said something before now and given her a right slagging. “You didn't have one of them funny scones for breakfast by accident?”. “No!” “I had three!”. “They were just normal scones Orla”. “Maybe it was the raisins but I was buzzing”. “Just the Prom took a lot out of me that’s all”. “You getting stood up and all? Told you John Paul was a dick”.
They made it to school and headed straight to assembly where they found James. “Where the fuck were you?”. “I left early. I had an essay to finish in the library”. “I didn’t think you could get anymore fucking boring”. He gave Erin a quick smile before turning away. Was he avoiding her this morning? Finishing an essay? Erin was distracted by Sr Michael beginning assembly.
“I have been informed of the incident which occurred at the school formal over the weekend. Unfortunately I wasn’t there to witness it”. She smirked over at Jenny. “One student has already been suspended. And be rest assured we will find out if anyone else may have been involved. So could I see Erin Quinn, Claire Devlin, Michelle Mallon and the wee English fella in my office straight after this. Now for prayers and if any of you lot were involved you’re going to need some intervention from Our Lord! Our Father Who Art in Heaven...”.
“Stay calm. She has nothing on us girls” Michelle was topping her lip gloss in preparation. “Yeah we can just explain it calmly and carefully that Mae was behind everything. It will be fine”. Claire was pacing the hall. “Aye” Erin was only half listening and was more interested in get a sly look at James and trying to work out what he was thinking. Sr Michael opened her office door. “You lot can come in now”. “It was all Mae’s fault...”. James followed them all in and hadn’t even got through the door before Claire had started. “I didn’t know she was unhinged. How could I Sister? Psychopaths are good at hiding the fact that they’re psychos we knew nothing until James noticed the buckets and said “She’s doing a Carrie” but I’d never seen Carrie! So I didn’t...”. “Let me stop you there Claire...You’ve never seen Carrie?”. “No Sister”. “Great film. I love the mother in it. Go on”. “Well we were trying to stop her pulling the buckets, Mae I mean and save Jenny but she wouldn’t stop and Jenny didn’t understand. She thought we were trying to ruin her moment but we weren’t I swear and so it’s just one big misunderstanding except for Mae. She’s pure evil and she’s giving the Chinese community in Donegal a really bad name”. “Anyone else who pauses for breath when they speak want to add anything?”. “No Sister. I think Claire hit everything to be honest” said Erin. The others nodded in confirmation. “Ok. I’ve spoken to Mae’s old head teacher and she confirmed she had been previously expelled for bullying. For once I believe you”. “Really?”. They all looked at each other. It must have been a good weekend for Sr Michael. They didn’t know she was still happy from the ceasefire and the thoughts of Jenny getting her comeuppance. An incident like this was a long time coming for Jenny Joyce. “So it seems you may be off the hook ladies. This time. However I’ve set up a meeting with Jenny Joyce this afternoon so you can apologise for ruining her “big moment”. Her words not mine obviously”. “For fu….” Erin elbowed Michelle. “..ecking great idea Sister”. “Thank you Michelle. Off you all go now! Hurry up!”.
“Right so Claire’s gone shopping with her ma. Orla’s off at stepacise, or dancercise or whatever the fuck she does and James’s gone off to work on that project. Told me to give you this by the way”. “History book?”. “Aye said it was for some project or other. I don’t know. I’ll have to start paying attention in that class. In every class to be honest. So that just leaves me and you”. “Actually Michelle I have a lot of homework to do”. “Since when were you such a dry shite!”. “I’m sorry Michelle. Maybe tomorrow aye?”. Erin thought for a minute. “I thought you were grounded?”. “Fuck!!”. Michelle stormed off in the direction of home shouting bye as she ran. Erin flicked through the book Michelle had given her as she walked home. Why had he given her this? Why hadn’t he give it to her himself? She knew they did have a history project. Well one essay but in didn’t require the hours he had apparently being spending in the library. She was convinced he was avoiding her. Then she saw it. A small note folded between two pages. “Meet you at the gate at the old walls??”. He meant the City Walls. 4.30pm?”.
“Where are you going at this hour?”. “Out”. “Out where?”. “Just out on a dander mammy”. “One your own?”. “Why not? Can a woman not go for a walk on her own?”. “Not you Erin. Do you not have homework to be doing?”. “This is for my homework. History project. On the walls”. “Do you ever do a history project that’s not about the walls?”. “Mammy everything is about the walls. They are spectacular”. “Ok don’t leave it too late. And I want you home before it gets dark!”.
Erin wrapped her denim jacket around her and headed for City Walls that ran around the city. He was already there when she got there. “Hey”. “Hi. You got my note then. I wasn’t sure you’d turn up”. “You’re lucky Michelle didn’t have a read of that book”. “Michelle, read? I think she’s allergic”. They started walking to nowhere in particular. “Do you like reading? Like for fun? Not for school” Erin asked. She wanted to keep the conversation going and not let things get awkward. “Yeah, haven’t had much time lately”. “Me neither. I’d love to be able to do that”. “Read?”. “No I mean write a novel or a play”. “Why don’t you?”. “Haha. Yeah!”. “You’re clever and funny. You could. You should try. I’d read it”. “I meant to thank you again for Saturday”. “Erin you don’t have to thank me...”. “But you didn’t have to...you missed your thing...and you didn’t have to walk me home or...kiss me goodnight...you didn’t...”. “I wanted to...”. “Kiss me or walk me home?”. “Both”. “You can again if you want to...I understand if don’t want to...”. “Kiss you or walk you home?”. “Both”.
“What the fuck is up with Erin?” Michelle was leaving school with Claire. “What do you mean?”. “Well where is she?”. “Doing her history project?”. “Every afternoon for the past week? And at the weekend? I know she’s loves them fucking walls but not that fucking much. Either she’s got a fella or she’s planning on marrying them like that one that married the wall...”. “The Berlin Wall??”. “Oh aye”. “Where’s James and Orla?”. “Orla? Who the fuck knows? And James is doing my head in as well”. “Why what’s he doing?”. “He’s fucking happy….like all the time. It was bad enough when he was just annoying. What the fuck does he have to be happy about? He’s a youngfella with an English accent living in Derry”. “I haven’t seen him lately...You don’t think him and Erin are…??”. “Riding?”. “No..not like that...like seeing each other?”. “You’re fucking funny Claire. She’s a rare duck but not that fucking rare”. “We could ask her? Maybe there’s something wrong? We could stake out the library”. “That sounds like a barrel of laughs Claire”.
“I’m just going to head the library...”.
“I’m gonna go to the library...”.
“Actually no I’m just head home”
“Wait I’ll make my way home with you...”.
They had said both in unison. Erin put her head down and started walking towards home. Orla followed her oblivious to the awkwardness. Michelle and Claire were still staring at James who reddened and followed after Erin. “What the fuck is going on?” Michelle whispered to Claire.
They ended up following Erin home. She stopped them at the front door. “Actually I think my mammy’s doing dinner and she might not want you all under her feet”. They went to leave the garden and head home with Orla behind them. “Orla I didn’t mean you..”. Erin jumped as Mary opened the door. “What are ye wains doing standing on the doorstep in the cold? Come in and have some tea. Actually Michelle I have that big bowl for your mam”. They all headed inside. “No really it’s grand Mary. My ma’s forgotten about it and all”. “Aye if you’re sure love”. It was worth another try she thought.
“How are yas getting on with that history project girls? Our Erin seems to be in that library day and night”. “Grand. Piss of piss really Mary”. “Fine actually thanks Mrs Quinn” said Orla grabbing biscuit from the table. “What history project” asked Orla. “You all seem very laid back about it? Erin?”. “Mammy do you want me to dish up the sprouts?”. She tried to change the subject. “Why are you spending so much time on the project?”. “I’m just struggling to find the words that’s all”. She could feel herself going purple. “Struggling to find the words? You Erin?”. “Yes Mammy”. Mary eyed her disbelievingly. She was up to something alright.
The gang tucked in the tea and reminisced about the prom. “You looked well the other night Joe”. “Why thank you Michelle. It was a great night. It was an honour to spend it with my wee granddaughter”. “Do you work out Joe?”. “I walk up the hill to church of a thursday so I do”. “It was a terrible what happened to Jenny Joyce wasn’t” Erin tried to steer the conversation away from her grandad. “Oh aye. It was terrible what happened to you Erin. Did you hear from that boy in the end?”. Erin stared at her peas. “No aunt Sarah”. “Forget him Erin. He’s not worth your time”. Grandda Joe stood up from the table and put a hand on her shoulder. “It was good of your James there to take you? Your mother was telling me. Good on you son”. He left them and went to watch the television. “James went with you? Were you going to tell us or what like?”. “Did you not cop on Michelle when we arrived together?”. “I just thought he’d bumped in to you on the way home from the creepy plunger convention”. “It’s Doctor Who..” James corrected her under his breath. “Well now you know”. Erin jumped up to start on the dishes so she could hide her face from the other others. She knew Michelle would jump to conclusions but Claire and Orla hadn’t said anything. She didn’t want them saying anything. Michelle turned to James: “You’re a sly wee fucker aren’t you?”. The dinner wound down and the gang made to leave. Not before Mary tried to sneak the big bowl in to Michelle’s bag. “Mary honestly it’s yours now”.
Erin and Orla said goodbye on the doorstep. “What’s it will mothers and bowls?” pondered Michelle. “Aye. It’s scary. Will we get like that do you think?” Erin would take a conversation about bowls at that point in time. “Claire defo will”. “I like a good bowl better than anyone but I’ll never be like that”. “Forget it Claire. We all turn into in to our parents”. They said their goodbyes and her and Orla headed inside. She sneaked a look at her mam and dad before going upstairs. They were laughing and joking as Mary filled him in on all the gossip from work. They could be sort of cute together when they weren’t under the eye of her, Joe or Sarah. Most of the time it made her want to boke but she thought to herself if she ended up like them she’d be lucky. She headed upstairs wishing she had have been able to see James off on her own.
The awkwardness had gone on for another week. James would disappear straight after school and Erin would walk home and find a way to sneak off back to the library. Michelle had given in to staking out the library after her suspicions had been raised by Joe telling them James had taken Erin to the prom. Why had neither of them told her? If it was just nothing they would have said. She was sitting with Claire and Orla in the quiet side of the library hiding their faces behind books. Occasionally spying from behind them to see if Erin had entered the library. “Orla...”. Michelle took the book from her and put it the right side up. “I was enjoying that!”. “What the fuck do you have on your face?”. She had two stripes of brown face paint on each cheek. She looked like a cat with whiskers. “Camouflage Michelle”. “I know this is Derry and all but we’re only in the library”. “Shhhh. Here she is!”. The slid down in their chairs until she walked past.
“Come on girls!”. Claire led the way. They followed Erin to the back of the library. They could hear talking so they hid behind a bookshelf. “Either she’s talking to herself or someone’s with her”. “Not shit Sherlock. Come on Claire!”. Michelle went to jump out from behind the bookshelf. “We can’t just approach her”. “It’s the library Claire. A public place. Not the jungle. Come on!”.
“Come in James live a little!”. Erin hopped up on the desk behind her. “But someone could catch us!”. “No one comes back here James. It’s all the books about your lot’s history”. She fluttered her eyelashes. She knew he would hold out much longer after that. “Okay but quickly. Be our luck if today was the day Jenny Joyce wanted to research Cromwell”. “She wouldn’t need to. She’s Cromwell reincarnated”. She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards her. He pushed her hair behind her ear. It had surprised her. How much she liked him. The wee English fella. Michelles annoying wee cousin. He was kind, funny, she could actually talk to him about stuff life, family, history, poetry, anything. He was also kind of cute. Especially with that new haircut. And he was a good kisser. She finally got why Katya had gone straight for him. It had confused her at the time but now she had joined the dots. Really she hadn’t been annoyed at Katya. Well maybe a wee bit but she had been jealous. Not in a romantic way at the time but as a friend. He had been spending all his time with her. Now...she wanted him to herself. As a boyfriend? James...her boyfriend? He leaned in to kiss her. Yes definitely her boyfriend.
“What the ACTUAL FUCK!!”. Nearly everyone in the library rushed over at the sound of Michelle yelling. Erin pushed James away. So hard he ended up knocking over a bookshelf. The clatter of the books alerted anyone else who wasn’t aware of the drama unfolding. “What are you two fucking doing? Are you actually necking James?”.
“No, he kissed me! He took me to the Prom and I think he got the wrong impression”. “Erin!”. “I’m sorry James I know this is hard for you….Maybe things are different in England...”. “But you said you liked me...”. Erin could hear the sadness in his voice but she just couldn’t face the others knowing. It was too embarrassing. Especially being caught like that. She’d never live it down. Half the school seemed to be in the library. She had wanted to break it to the gang gently after a good while then the school would follow. “James don’t be such a dick just because a girl walks in to the prom with ya it doesn’t mean she wants your tongue down her throat”. “I didn’t do that...she asked me to...I wouldn’t...I...Erin?!”. He pleaded with her but she couldn’t look at him. She just froze. He didn’t even say anything else. He pushed his way through the crowd that had gathered and left the library. “I’m so sorry. I’m gonna kill him Erin”. “I’m sorry too” she whispered to herself.
I’m the dick. I should have said something but on no for the first time in my life I had to keep my gob shut. She waited by the wall at the usual time and place that evening but he didn’t show. She hadn’t expected him to. She had just hoped he would. So she could explain and apologise. She couldn’t go to his house for fear of meeting Michelle. She would barely get a chance to say hello to him in school let alone properly talk to him about what had happened. She walked home feeling the winter cold for the first time in two weeks missing her hand being in his and how he would put them in his jacket pocket to keep them warm.
“Could you give James this back and say thanks?”. “You shouldn’t be thanking him after he stuck his tongue down your throat”. “It was just a misunderstanding Michelle, just leave it”. “I don’t know how he can show his face around here”. “It’s school he has to go. It’s against the law for him not to!”. “Ok Claire. Kavanagh QC there”. “Where is he?” Erin asked. She wanted to try and speak with him. She doubted they would get a moment alone during school. Everyone and anyone would be watching them after what transpired in the library. “Left for school before I even got up. You’re grand Erin. He won’t be launching himself at you when I’m around. That’s the English for you they think they can just take what they want”. “James isn’t like that Michelle. I think he genuinely misunderstood”. Erin reddened. Claire was defending him and she couldn’t. She was a coward. She looked at Claire. She had faced the ridicule of her friends, family and her school when she had decided to come out as being a lesbian. She couldn’t even tell her friends that she liked a boy.
When they got to school they headed to assembly. Erin tried to discreetly scan the hall for James. Where was he? He didn’t really know anyone else. “Don’t worry Erin! He’s moved on”. Erin turned to see where Michelle was pointing. He was standing with Charlene Kavanagh. She was laughing at something he said. Obviously she had heard about what happened in the library or if she did she hadn’t believed it.
They crossed passed with him in the hallway on the way to their first class. They were all in the same maths class so he couldn’t avoid her without mitching off. “Having fun with Charlene you creepy fuck?”. “Yes. Turns out she’s in to Doctor Who”. “We’ll have to tell her to wear one of them beekeeper things to you off her then”. James just looked at Erin before scoffing and walking down the back of the class and sitting beside Charlene.
“I don’t want to talk to you right now”. Erin ran to catch up with him. He had been the first out the school gate. Obviously trying to get home without seeing her. “Please...I..I want to apologise”. “Apologise? You humiliated me Erin”. “I’m so sorry”. “I’ve been slagged every day since I got here and I’ve put up with it. I’m the new kid. The wee English fella. Going to the girls’ school. Even people now thinking I’m a creep. Saying things behind my back. I’ve taken it but I can’t take it from you Erin”. “I didn’t mean it. I just didn’t want to tell them like that”. “That you’re with someone or that you’re with me?”. “We could go on as we were”. “Erin I never wanted or expected you to tell everyone but I can’t deal with with you being... ashamed of me...”. “I’m not...Please I miss you and...”. “I can't be with you when you're like this. I’m sorry. I like you when you're being yourself. You’re one of the greatest people I’ve ever met but not when you’re trying to fit in with the others”. She watched him walk down the street and make his way home.
She had to think of a way to apologize. To show everyone she liked him. Most importantly to show him. Her dad came in to her room. “You alright love?”. He could tell something was up with her. She had seemed upset since she had gotten home from school. “Kinda”. “Do you want to talk about it?”. “Not really. Sorry”. “No bother. You know where to find me if you change your mind”. “Hiding in the attic from mammy?”. “No cleaning out the attic...You can help me if you want. It mind take your mind off it”.
She followed him up the ladder. He helped her in to the attic. Erin had a look through the heaps of stuff. Some family keepsakes, some junk and some items from her childhood. Some of it distracted her for a minute but her mind soon wandered back to James. She wondered where he was and what he was up to. If he was with Charlene. Watching Doctor Who. Ring! Gerry stepped forward with a guitar and placed it around Erin’s neck. She gave it a strum. It was out of tune but sounded ok. “Where did this come from?”. “That’s mine! From before you were born. I used to play to your mother when we were courting”. “Courting?” Erin laughed. “Going out. Dating. I used to play that trying to impress her. I’d write her little songs”. “Did she like them? Were they any good?”. “Well she married me didn’t she?”. An idea formed in Erin’s head. She picked up the guitar “How long does it take you learn how to play the guitar da?”.
“Today’s morning song will be performed by..Jen...Erin Quinn...interesting”. Erin made her way on to the stage struggling with the guitar. “Jesus, what the fuck is she doing?”. “Can she even play the guitar?” asked Claire. Erin struggled to get the notes right for the first chord. “I guess not”. “Hold on. Give me a sec. I can get this”. She tried to remember the chords her father had taught her. When she did remember them it took ages to get from one to another. “Fuck me. Even the Jesus on the cross up there is laughing”. She pointed to the statue of the crucifixion above the stage.
The crowd began to titter. “In fairness I tried. I practiced all weekend and the guitar is not easy to learn I can tell ya. I’m sorry. This isn’t me” Erin put down the guitar. “...this is”. Erin stood before the microphone and started singing. At first he voice was cautious and faltering but she grew in to the song and sounded quite good.
“I know I felt like this before.
But now I'm feeling it even more
Because it came from you
Then I open up and see
The person falling here is me
A different way to be...”
She hoped he understood. They had listened to the song before on her walkman before. Erin climbed down off the stage walked towards the gang. “Seriously what the fuck is she doing?”. Michelle slouched down in her chair pretending not to know her. “She’s coming towards us” Claire was intrigued. She stopped in front of James. “I'm sorry I shouldn't have lied and let them make fun of you and I'm sorry...that's not me”. She grabbed him by his blazer and kissed him. The other students giggled, cheered and Jenny Joyce fainted.
“What the actual FU...”. “Thank you Michelle. Well after that little performance I have no option but to insist you two are kept separate at all times. We can’t be having anymore carry on like this”. “Come on Sr it's not like we have no self control it's not like we're animals”. “You've never seen you two kiss obviously” Michelle mimed vomiting. “Does that mean I have to move out of the house Erin?” “She only meant me and James, Orla”.  “My office now the pair of you”. He brushed her hand before they both followed Sr Michael.
“Did Jenny Joyce give you a good steever in the head the other night and you have concussion or something?”. “No Michelle”. “Then what is it?”. “Did you join a cult?”. “No!” . “Did he bring you to that creepy convention and someone plungered ya?”. “No, I just like him Michelle”. “James?”. “The wee, English, annoying, prick of a cousin of mine?”. “Yes”. “Curly hair?”. “Yes!”. “I just can’t get my head around it”. “Me neither!”. “Claire! I thought you’d at least be on my side”. “Am I...it’s just it’s James...and you”. “I think you make a cracking couple”. “Thank you Orla”. “See Orla thinks this is alright it’s definitely fucked up”. “Michelle I like him. He’s not like David Donnelly or John Paul”. “John Paul was a ride. A dick but a ride”. “And he gets me. He likes me for me”.
“Poor James, he’ll have no one to hang out with”. “Cool it Claire, look. Jenny Joyce has already taken him under her wing. Poor Bitch. Sorry Erin. He has a bit of a fan club”. “Fan club?”. Erin laughed. “I’m not messing. Some of the girls are mad for him after you declared your love for him. I heard Jenny Joyce fainted with the romance of it all”.
Jenny saw them looking over and made her away across the room. James grimaced and waved over. “Erin rest assured we’ll well look after him”. James was surrounded by a group of girls fawning around him. Jealousy rose up in Erin. “Back off Jenny” she uttered through gritted teeth. She must have really sounded angry as Jenny quickly scuttled off and dispersed the group that had formed around James.
“Jesus Erin, you’re actually jealous of Jenny Joyce!”. “I’m not jealous I just sick at the cheek coming over here telling us she’s looking after him. We’ve been doing that for 2 years”. “No you’re jealous Erin”.
“I sort of miss him I've no one to take the piss out of”. “You take the piss out of us all the time Michelle!” Claire  looked to the heaves”. “Aye. But it's not the same. He just takes it”.
“Hi Mrs Quinn”. “Come in love”. Mary brought James through to the kitchen. “Mr Quinn, Mrs McCool”. “Hi there love”. “Sir”. He couldn’t remember Granddad Joe’s surname. “Is Michelle not with ya?”. “Or Claire?”. “Or Orla?”. “No, I’m on my own. Is Erin in?”. “Yeah, she’s upstairs”. “May I go see her please?”. “Sure love. You know where to go. Are Michelle and Claire on their way or…?”. “No just me”. He turned and went up the stairs.
He wasn’t?. Erin and him weren’t? Mary’s mind was racing. “Mary you’re not letting him go up there on his own are you?” Gerry stood up and went to listen at the bottom of the stairs. “Why not?”. He returned to the kitchen after not being able to hear anything. “He’s a teenage  boy”. “I thought he was gay?” Mary was more saying it to herself than the others. “Aye, you got a problem with the gays Gerry? Why are you so prejudiced?”. “I’m not. I’m just not comfortable with my daughter being up there alone with a teenage lad”. “I don’t think he’s gay Mary because Orla was telling me that Erin kissed him during assembly. I think it’s quite sweet actually” Aunt Sarah returned to painting her nails. “Here you waste of space. You should be ashamed of yourself letting your young daughter get up to god knows what upstairs with that wee English gobshite!”. “You just said he was gay!”. “Well you should have made sure before you flung your wee daughter at him”. “Calm down! I' ll go check”.
Mary climbed the stairs to the landing and put her ear to Erin’s bedroom door. “Ok one more please then I promise I will give your space hospital thing a go”. “It's not even set in a hospital!”. “Well I'll never know unless you finish this one”. “Ok then we’ll watch Doctor Who”. “Ok”. Mary snuck the door open a inch so she could see. They were sat on the bed. James had a book in his hand and Erin had her head on his shoulder. “Emma was almost ready to sink under the agitation of this moment. The dread of being awakened from the happiest dream, was perhaps the most prominent feeling. "I cannot make speeches, Emma," he soon resumed; and in a tone of such sincere, decided, intelligible tenderness as was tolerably convincing. "If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am”.
“Why are you laughing?”. “Because you can do the voices” “That's just my voice”. “I know just we can't. We can't. Sound funny if Emma was almost ready to have a cack attack wouldn’t!”. Mary smiled and gently closed the door and left them to it.

Excellent favourite episodes chosen for Derry Girls. My favourite episode is when the girls are trying to get to the Take That concert: the escaped Polar Bear, Clare's (ahem) impressive disguise, Sister Michael laughing as she reads the Exorcist, the travellers adoption of James, James fangirling over Gary Barlow, and Jerry seeing the girls enjoying themselves at the concert. Also, being the super cool girl I was in the 90's, I sympathise with Clare's disappointment at missing PJ and Duncan .🐇.
.🐇. Favourite moment is when Orla takes her grandpa to prom, because "he's the fellow I like the most" 😊 So cute and lovely. I also love both of the series' finale. Did you have a favourite moment? I'm pleased you too were a Clare although I was a mixture of Clare and Erin (thinking I was cooler and more progressive than I actually was) rather than Orla. Either way we would have made quite the team you and I 😜😂 .🐇.
.🐇. ((Last Derry Girls message, I promise.)) Agreed: the baby is majorly cute! Her chubby little cheeks and the way she looks interested in all the characters and what they're doing 😅 I can imagine our David walking around with his baby girl Maia all the time like the grandpa does in Derry Girls. Just getting on with his day to day activities with her cuddled up in one of his big arms 😊 Sorry for the many many messages btw. Hope you're feeling better XX 🐇
I was totally going to have the polar bear episode as one of my favorites! I love how the show never follows any path you’re expecting; it kept me on my toes the whole time, and I was in stitches over every weird turn. I loved it! I was so happy to see Gerry smiling seeing his daughter having such a good time-- all the adults on the show are so surprisingly sympathetic, and so kind to the kids when it really counts.
I was not a 90′s kid, so I have absolutely no idea who PJ and Duncan are, and I honestly didn’t even think Take That was a real band, because I was a fetus for the 90′s!
And yes, that’s one of my favorite moments, too! Orla and Granda dancing at the prom made me so happy. In fact, every scene with Granda is my favorite, because he’s just fantastic, but I was so overjoyed by how loving he was with Orla for the prom. He didn’t treat it as a weird thing at all, and was just happy to be with his granddaughter, treating her like the most special girl in the world. It made my heart so warm :’)
And, of course, I adore the little baby! I love her so much, and the way she’s always just hangin’ out, watching the chaos unfold. She’s so small and sweet, and seeing her Granda being the one holding her and taking care of her primarily is so darling. He clearly loves that little angel so much!
You are very correct about the David comment, too; I’ve always pictured that he’s the kind of papa bear who doesn’t like to let his babies out of his sight, so he either has his babies clipped on to him in one of those chest carriers or he’s got ‘em in his arms. He’s gotten very good at one-handed cooking and bottle-warming, carrying his little girl with him everywhere.
She’s his little buddy, and he brings her with him shopping, or out into the yard to walk the dog; anywhere David goes, so too does his wee little Maia, bopping along as she is safely cradled in the nook of his big forearm, bigger bicep, and biggest ol’ chest.
I like to imagine David sitting down in his big chair with the newspaper, reading it in such a way that it stands up and covers most of his upper body and face, and when someone approaches to talk to him, he folds it down, only for the baby to peek out from behind the pages. No one even knew she was there!
So... cute... and... perfect...!
Thank you for all the messages; they genuinely made my day! I love talkative anons who engage with me! Feel free to send more messages, and thank you so much for checking in with me! The cold-like symptoms of the flu are still knocking around, but I should be just fine with time!
Thank you!

3, 5, 9, 10 & 50 for the TV asks. Please and thank you.
3. have you ever quit a show before it finished? why?
yes! for multiple reasons! I quit Friday Night Lights before it ended because now I still have some Friday Night Lights to watch one day in the future (this is probably not what the question meant, but I do sometimes not finish a show so I can have more of the show later; perhaps a fairer description would be that I took a hiatus). I quit The 100 because just as I started getting sucked into it they killed off Lexa and that was enough. I quit Major Crimes because of the major crimes against the characterization of the main fucking character. I thought I quit Star Trek Discovery because they sold me a bill of goods about Michelle Yeoh being the captain but I ended up un-quitting and I’m still not sure whether or not that was a good idea. I quit Supergirl because it seemed like they were making a bunch of changes that were bad on just all the fronts.
5. what’s your comfort show?
shows, plural (and there are probably more I can’t think of at this precise moment in time): Great British Bake-Off, Miss Marple, Lewis, Happy Valley (but only paying attention to the Catherine and Clare stuff), Derry Girls (a new addition to the comfort show canon), Schitt’s Creek (same), Stars Trek, Anthony Bourdain stuff, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, the Golden Girls.
9. what’s one show you thought you’d hate but turned out to really enjoy?
The Exorcist! It turned out to be one of my favorite shows while it was airing, and it really didn’t feel like it was for me (the main characters are men! it’s horror!), but it clicked for me (the priests are conflicted! one of them is canon queer! religion + horror!) and I was super sad when it was cancelled because it was just so good for me.
10. what’s one show you thought you’d love but turned out to really hate?
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel feels like it should be right in my wheelhouse, and yet! I watched the whole first season with my sister when I was visiting (because she loves it; it’s possibly her favorite show) and it just. It was such an “eh, I guess?” for me that I ended up really hating it. (also there are clearly not enough Jewish people involved in the making of the show, even if you just count the actors. anyway!)
50. what’s one TV cliche you love?
I am a SUCKER for a good musical montage in a TV show, I really am. (The West Wing always got me with those; it was so good at emotionally manipulating me with them. Brothers in Arms! Yo-Yo Ma! etc.!)

derry girls review!
okay so i really enjoyed the humour style of the show, and i loved all the characters!
they werent afraid to make the girls look and act like actual teenage girls which was awesome, i loved how weird and awkward and rude they were
also the adults (especially sister michael) were hilarious too
i loved all the ridiculous shenanigans (like they start their first day of school and end up discovered trying to escape the premises over the dead body of a nun? fantastic)
also someone really knows whats up with girls schools
clare!! the wee lesbian!! awesome character!! i really liked how they handled her storyline in the last episode and i hope they explore her and her sexuality more in the next season
however i also hope they make james gay as well cause they made all the gay jokes about him the whole season and that would be a little sour if he was straight
there were some point where the secondhand embarrassment was a lot for me but thats just cause im too empathetic lol
the ending really made me emotional, it was so poignantly executed
in conclusion id highly recommend watching it!! i really enjoyed it!

Note
Me again. I’m just curious since I saw you were watching it. What did you think of Derry Girls? I liked it (third season is meant to come out soon). Though it’s actually filmed in Belfast. When we were watching it, my dad was pointing out all the locations he recognised.
I really liked it! There were a lot of jokes and characters I really enjoyed (I think my favourites would include them cleaning the chippy with mayonnaise, the Protestant simping for Clare because of her Union Jack top, the bit in the photo shop, them desecrating the Child of Prague, Granda Joe being really nice to Gerry after he gets high off the scones, and basically everything with Uncle Colm), and I think they handled the sectarian background to the series in a pretty clever way (the jokes about Ian Paisley still being a loud fuckwit with the volume at 0 and Gerry Adams getting dubbed because his voice is too sexy killed me). And tbh I thought it looked quite a lot like Belfast, though I've never been to NI so I wouldn't know Belfast from Derry all told.

Michelle’s annoying wee cousin.

A fellow Derry Girls fan here. I'm so pleased you were recommended the series by that lovely anon and that you enjoyed it. Clare is my favourite too (I was most like her at school...who am I kidding, I'm still like Clare 😅 aka always having a "cack attack") but everything that comes out of Sister Michael's mouth is gold. Do you have a favourite episode? Here's impatiently waiting for series 3 XX🐇
More Derry Girls folks, how wonderful! I’m genuinely so pleased to be hearing from you guys about the show, oh my gosh! And I’m so pleased that anon recommended it to me, too!
And oh man, absolutely hear you on that Clare thing. I think I was a combination of Clare and Orla-- part over-responsible, anxious mess, part non-sequitur-spitting oddball. And you’re dead right about Sister Michael; she’s so fantastically funny in her dry, harsh way, and I really loved her so much.
As for my favorite episode, I can’t really pick, since every one of them is filled with fun, distinct moments, but I’d say it’s a toss-up between the one where they think they’ve witnessed a miracle (Season 1, Episode 3), or the one where Mary gets fixated on The Usual Suspects and the girls break the statue of baby Jesus (Season 2, Episode 2). I also really loved each of the season finales!
What about you? Favorite episodes, favorite moments?
