The thing that I'd love to know more about in relation to the question of Magnus' skill set is just what being a cavalier to a Speaker to the Dead entails.

Marta gets powerups from Judith sucking all the thalergy out of people. Babs gets eaten for powerups for his necromancer(s). Jean's role would be to defend Isaac on the battlefield so we can keep the corpsesplosions coming. Colum gets shoved into hell to power up Silas.

Maybe Magnus sits alongside Cam and Pro as having a more generally caring and administrative role, regardless of any specific sword skills.

But what interests me is the possibility that he does have a specific role in supporting Abigail's necromantic practice.

When Abigail is trying to summon Nonius, she echoes (at times word for word) the necromantic ritual Odysseus does in book 11 of the Odyssey to summon the ghost of Tiresias. But if the Odyssey is anything to go by, the things you do to attract the attention of one ghost will attract lots of hungry, angry ghosts. And the ancient understanding of ghosts is that they are not incorporeal: they do literally drink the blood, and you can literally hit them with a sword:

And I myself drew my sharp sword from beside my thigh and sat there, and would not suffer the powerless heads of the dead to draw near to the blood until I had enquired of Teiresias. (Odyssey 11.49-50)

Which makes me wonder whether Magnus' role as the cavalier to a Speaker to the Dead might be to be the chap who makes the other ghosts back off until his necromancer/wife finds the one she wants to talk to. After all, as he has to remind her, she only has a limited amount of blood.

ugh i hate how much men love sexually harassing women online. my fav streamer was about to end stream and raid her mod when some absolute asshole wrote in her chat "can you please look at the camera im almost finished" (paraphrased). she had been in a fantastic mood before that and so had the chat and she immediately got disgusted and the vibe changed instantly i felt so horrible for her. shes not a huge streamer, there were like 60 some people in there on average, and some fucking disgusting ass man had to ruin her joy by sexually harassing her right before she left for the night. just disgusts me.
