pspspspsp Kevin's trauma and his choice to stay with Thea, why her why not someone else? How does it work considering his characters as whole books/ec , does it make sense or just feel "random"

This responce has been sped up by the people who asked Nora on twitter to break Kevin and Thea up, making me see red KillBill style, so:

For me, Kevin's and Thea's relationship makes perfect sense. Maybe it's the realist in me, maybe its the idealist in me, I don't care. When it comes to Kevin's traumas, I think that since most people can't really relate to a majority of them, they get all hung up on the one they most definately can, as in, his mommy issues. When we relate to something, it becomes a really big deal. And here we go! Thea/Kevin suddenly is feared to be toxic instead of being seen for what I think it is: finding love in a hopeless place.

The main issue i see discussed is the disproportion of power at the beginning of the relationship. The main concern is the age difference. I personally don't really get the hate about the age gap between them, because if you read the extra content you will know that while they met when Kevin was 14 and Thea 18, it's not like anything happened between them at that age? First, Kevin saw her as an impressive player, when he did actually see her. That wasn't all that often bcs from what I understand from the EC, Kevin and Riko trained with the Ravens sometimes before they joined the team but a big part of their training happened without them, as well as their life growing up was more detached from the Uni students than people seem to think. And honestly, do you think Tetsuji would just let all the freshmen know they signed into the Yakuza sportsTM? Methinks not, but be delulu if you want I guess. 💋

So anyway, from the EC, it seems like Kevin had a crush slowly build up for Thea over the years, growing from his appreciation of her skill and athletism. Considering how cold that guy is, it probably took him some time to realise, after his irritation at her romances (yeah hello she was dating people her age when Kevin was mooning for here as a pathetic teenage boy, bye bye Thea haters) with other teammates started having nothing to do with the fact it could result in the teams distraction during the game, bcs of their hormones and feelings, and turned to conscious jelousy. And here I have to applaud young Kevin because he did not even realise he was distracted from the game by being jealous. Knowing how oblivious Kevin can be about non exy issues, it likely took quite a while.

So what's next? The "getting together"? Kevin and Thea only started having a sort of physical relationship when Kevin and Riko were already freshmen for Edgar Allan, at 18/19.

Whoever wants to fight me on this being a toxic age gap, what exactly is your angle?

Anyway, Kevin was the one to initiate their relationship, after Riko was done with his distraction from the game and his focus on picking fights with Thea, and told him to sleep with her and get it out of his system. (And that's how i met your mother.) It wasn't much more than that for a long time, because having a relationship on a 12 hrs day/night full of training and uni and juggling two other teams on top of that as well as celebrity status literally sounds like the most insane schedule ever, so it's insane they even managed to talk privately at all.

Now, we circle back to the question, why Thea? Why not someone else? Well, first and fucking foremost, because Nora Sakavic said so. Second of all, because Jung and Freud weren't as stupid as imternet memes would have you believe. (Read their books, read all the books please, i can rec you like a 100 psychology texts, dont be shy)

To keep it short, we do base our attraction on the role models we have, one way or another. I saw enough of my friends pick partners that have the exact character quirks that make them just slightly like an after image of their guardians. Kevin doesn't really have a father model, but his mother? She's always going to be a huge part of his life, is it really so weird and dangerous, that he got infautated with a strong, driven, 4 years older woman, who's incredibly talented and just as determined as him? I don't think so. Is it unhealthy? Is it unsafe? As much as life is, I guess, no one is perfect, but I think he could've done much much worse for himself.

Why did Kevin decide to stay with Thea? I would find it pretty obvious, because she doesn't actually need him. She built herself, but she wants him. Even if she will never have the same fame and recognition in her career that he does. Being wanted this way must be really new for Kevin, who was always a trophy to show off because of his legacy, always a property. But Thea is not competing with him, she doesnt want to own him either. I believe his mother is as much of a role model to her, as to him. So, they have sex, when they want to, they talk - when they feel like it. They don't, well fucking fine, so they don't, they fall in love anyway. It's okay if exy comes first in the beginning, considering both spent a lot of time in cult mentality, I think neither is all that bothered as long as its not obsessive (we could discuss how reasonable it was of Kevin to ghost her for over a year and not tell her about how he broke his hand but thats a whole other essay).

What's really wild to me, is that I think the power imbalance in this relationship is the opposite of what many may think.

Kevin holds all the cards. Thea joined the Ravens as a 18 years old talented athlete, she was one of the only girls on the team, and the Nest was not a place to make friends, on top of that it was a mafia cult. She had everything to prove there, and no way of being prepared for all the grooming. On top of that, she knew nothing of the Moriyamas or even of what actually went down with the whole Perfect Court thing. Kevin knew everything, on top of that, up until he left, he had nothing to prove. He ghosted her, is it so hard to believe she accepted his cold shoulder in this dynamic, in which she obviously is not at the top of the foodchain? He kept secrets from her, is it really so hard to believe she was angry? I think neither of them was ready for neither what life at the nest was like, or for a relationship when it happened, but I also think they are incredibly lucky that they have eachother, their shared passion for exy, their daughter, their dog and friends from the dog park who can't talk about exy to save their lives.

I think Kevin was incredibly lucky for finding Thea, because maybe she did not know everything, maybe it wasn't easy for them, but they understood that Rikos death wasn't a one dimensional victory, that it was just as much of a tragedy for them, for Kevin. I'm happy with the canon and I wish more people appreciated this ship, as its very soothing.

As an ending fun fact, did you know I am the only person to make a playlist for Thea Muldani in all of spotify? Pretty insane if you ask me.

i was looking at your latest gifset and realised why cauthor is such an amazing ship. mat needs someone who has his back in the way rand does. all the years of his parents and everyone else telling him he's no good, he'll never amount to anything - that kinda stuff sinks in until eventually you start to believe it yourself. and i'm not saying mat doesn't have any flaws of course, but I think some of the time his actions are dictated by what he believes about himself, that he really isn't worth it.

but rand - he's been mat's protector from day one, hasn't he? always in his corner, always defending him and letting mat know without equivocation that he is worth it, that he is a good person who deserves love and a second chance. and that was even before the whole dragon reborn thing came into play. when mat said at the start, "don't stay up-mountain too long" rand answered, "i won't". he won't stay up too long because he misses mat and knows mat needs him too. is it any wonder even ishamael shipped them?

THIS!!!!!! all of this, i'm weeping!!!! i remember in the wait between seasons i was going "oh man the cauthor reunion will be so angsty, rand will be so hurt over mat having stayed behind at the waygate!" but then we got to the actual reunion and it turned out i'd sorely underestimated rand's love for mat! rand is nothing but happy to see mat again, he gives him 100% unconditional love and understanding without bringing up the waygate incident at all, except for taking a moment to tell mat that they aren't better off without him. because he knows mat well enough to guess that the reason he stayed behind might've been that he thought the gang was better off without him, and he loves mat enough to believe this IS the reason rather than supposing something less charitable like selfishness or cowardice. and rand himself, for the first time in his life, has been struggling with feeling his loved ones are better off without him ever since the eye of the world, and this has given him new empathy for and new insight into how mat has felt for his ENTIRE life.

i know that "i'll take care of you" "it's rotten work" "not to me, not if it's you" has become a meme at this point, but it truly is the perfect descriptor of the cauthor dynamic! and on both ends too, since in s2 we see mat starting to be protective of rand and take care of him too now that rand's getting his own share of Issues. mat also assures rand that they aren't better off without him, after all! their lil amateur therapy session in cairhien is so perfect because they are both so well-positioned to understand the internal issues the other is currently dealing with, because it's similar to their own issues. and they each have their own way of showing care, and it just so happens to be perfectly suited to what the other needs; rand is very earnest and vocal in telling mat he's a good person, which is what mat needs to counteract all the fears that have been driven into him since childhood about being worthless, and meanwhile mat takes care of rand by teasing him and joking around and making him smile, which is what rand needs to lighten the burden of being TDR for a while. no wonder ishamael ships them, indeed! he is not immune to homoerotic devotion!

also, what really gets me is that mat didn't get to witness rand's passionate defenses of him in fal dara! nynaeve, you better have been recording the fight on your phone so you can show it to mat, he Needs To Know just how well rand continues to speak of him even when he isn't around. there probably won't be time for it in s3, but i would love a scene where egwene and mat talk for the first time after the great waygate abandonment, and mat's apologizing and egwene's like "well i was pretty mad at you at the time but we're cool now" and mat asks if rand was mad at him too, because he needs to know if he hurt rand but knows rand won't admit if he did because he'd want to spare mat's feelings, and egwene tells mat that rand was not mad at him and in fact defended him tooth and nail against everyone else, and mat's like 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 trying not to cry, and egwene's internally like "oh my god can you two just make out already". this scene happens between 2x08 and 3x01 in my heart!

😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into "flight" or "fight"?

'Fight' reaction is her default! If this is some kind of a wild predator animal (or, a dangerous beast, more appropriately to the context), she will fight without a second of hesitation, and very furiously so! It would apply to dangerous people too, like someone trying to rob or attack. She is that kind of person whose body just "knows" how to fight the exact second there is a reason to. If the threat IS too much for her to take on however, she also soon measures it and knows to run.

It applies in less drastic contexts, too, like someone making her scared or anxious in simply conversations. She defaults to scolding a person that alerted her, angrily, blushing and with her fists balled, and if she realises she picked a dangerous opponent in a conflict (like, say, starting a quarrel with people like Brador or Alfred) she will retreat. It is like a second nature, sensing whether default to fight or make an exception and fight. She has good "instincts"!

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?

Geranea is an okay liar when not a lot is at the stake, she could tell a small lie to keep someone's secret or get them out of trouble but would not lie for a personal gain. But when she got sent into Research Hall she had to lie, a lot. She needed to swipe various tools to help herself and others, avoid various chemicals and procedures, even help the patients that still could be saved...

Her face is not the most emotive (I swear her only expressions are 'tired' or 'angry' xD), but it is her body language that gives her lying away. When the cost of her lie being found out is high she blushes up to her very ear tips, hods hands in fists and overall looks stiff and tense. And, well, you don't want to attract unnecessary attention of cunts like Micolash or Brador of all people.... Since this is so inconvenient, Geranea tricks her own body by 'omitting' rather than straight up lying; comforting herself with how she technically says the truth actually helps her to relax and no longer look suspicious!

🕷️ SPIDER - what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?

She has quite generic fears of heights and the dark that not even much more horrifying Yharnam experiences weeded out! She will also dwell quite strongly if she had near-death experience recently (like for example someone's weapon JUST missing her head). The fear of ghosts, however, became a thing of the past after she had to fight several! Previously, they were the exception of her 'fight' reaction, the girl was screaming and running away! I guess it is too bad that she can't punch the height or the darkness in the face, then. xD

After leaving Research Hall by herself at last, her biggest fear became being found and returned to it. She still saw nightmares about it even since Research Hall, from her knowledge, got shut down and retooled into an "Orphanage". Even with her kindness, she tries to 'not think too hard' about the fact that most likely they experiment on children now, only to not deal with feeling like returning there and saving whoever she could is her duty.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

Damn, the story of her appearing is actually such a good memory for me, oh my god! I first thought of her back in Summer 2021! Remember how I told that sometimes I am sitting and minding my own business but random memories about Bloodborne lore bits simply 'appear' in my brain, like if I caught a radio frequency? Well, one day, my brain randomly grasped at the link of "hmmm, Valtr's helmet is missing one eye, he curses "freakish slugs and mad doctors", Yamamura was spyoning on dark Healing Church business as he is a summon for Living Failures, Valtr helps fighting Laurence and Ludwig.... I need to check whether Eye Pendant looks like an eye, ONE SECOND-"

So yeah! I also was and still am 'Valtr has both eyes as we are allowed to see' truther but back then it looked like canon rather than just one of the interpretations for me, so that sorta helped x) I decided whoever owned the Iron Helm previously was missing an eye, for the reason of Research Hall taking it, sought Valtr's help (as a cop??? xD) with their shady business and was significant enough in Valtr's life to make her associated item a symbol of League's mission!

.....and this was just me trying to look like I was super planned from the start lol. x) BEFORE this tangent, I already fell for guilty pleasure of wanting to make an OC deceased member of the League, just ask @val-of-the-north! I loved the concept of her dealing primarily with plant-like "filth", since flowers and alike in Bloodborne are a symbol of reaching for the skies for salvation and many corpses, especially in Hunter's Nightmare and Dungeons, sprout mold or flowers from their bodies. They grow from blood, everyone's blood has human dregs, blablablabla.

But after the Research Hall idea I soon decided to combine the characters into one! Again, back then, existence of previous Iron Helm owner felt extremely apparent for me, I was a sweet summer child (literal summer lol) yet to learn just HOW few things in Bloodborne are indisputable :/ And I wanted to breathe life in an "mentioned character" (in Iron Helm description) more than I wanted an OC, at least back then! ...then I screwed myself over with the idea that maybe this helmet is Djura's wielder helmet (it even misses the same eye!), and THEN I screwed myself over more thinking that maybe two-eyed Valtr we see is a snapshot by "Flora of the Moon and the Hunt" of his most efficient stage of life. And THEN Val had to battle me on still keeping Geranea because I deserved one (1) break from fiddling with "the most reasonable" theory instead of just taking it easy fdhfhds

She also was a she from the very start because I just like female characters, but initially her hair was black. I always associated her with cyan/aqua color though, especially darker tones. I guess dark red hair felt like a good contrast in the end!

Kagami. They were both kind of unsure what the right time to say it would be but Kagami just cracked first.

Kagami would want to but he would be too embarrassed that others would see it. Kuroko might have a funny picture like Kagami with tiger ears or something that isn't obviously romantic and can be interpreted as merely an attempt to torment Kagami should someone see it.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror

There's no way Kuroko wouldn't at least once leave a horror movie style note at a time Kagami was in the shower and unaware Kuroko was in his apartment. However, Kagami would realise it was Kuroko in about three seconds. Kagami would be the one to leave a cheesy note or two at a point in the future when he gets over himself.

Who buys the other cheesy gifts

Kagami would more easily slip into a truly cheesy gift realm when he's not self-conscious and gets all up in his feelings. Kuroko would be more aware of where the line goes, and more intentional about nuance and connotations so he would never be as cheesy as Kagami is at his worst. But most of the time Kagami is just sweet, though. I always loved the idea of him giving Kuroko a safety reflector that read "stay visible".

Who initiated the first kiss

Kuroko. (I kind of drew it already.) He wouldn't have done it if Kagami hadn't been obviously about to confess and then suddenly change his mind, leaving Kuroko too frustrated to let the moment pass.

Okay this is kind of far in the future since my fic still hasn't graduated high school (though it will soon) but I think neither because I don't think their work life will exactly make something like that easy.

It's hard to pin down their first date since they were already spending most of their time together as friends who slowly grew towards dating, but they were both nervous and shy ever since they began to realise their relationship was changing.

Who kills/takes out the spiders

Kuroko just lets them live in the house, after all they take care of far more annoying bugs. Unless there's someone around who can't handle seeing a spider, in which case he would take it out. Kagami wouldn't really care either I think, except when he's in a mood and everything gets on his nerves, then he would just step on them out of irritation. But then he would feel bad later and next time he would take the spider out, until he got too irritated again.

Aomine's objectively cheesy moves would be so serious that they wouldn't really seem that cheesy.

Sorry, meant to answer this sooner but then *gestures to All Of That*

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?

Frequently! Mostly it's in terms of content rather than form, I'm just now realising, although the sheer length of the road goes ever on was a challenge in itself. That was also the fic with the broadest scope I've ever attempted - I'd written full, mostly-original plots before, I'd written canon-continuation fics before, I'd written ensemble casts before, but never anything on that scale, with so many moving parts.

It was, also, mmmmmaybe only the second fic I'd written where a Serious Social Issue that doesn't personally affect me had a meaningful impact on the storyline (in this case, Billy Hargrove's racism and the way the show swept it under the rug) and I was Not Sure I was gonna get it right. (Still not entirely sure I did, in fact, get it right, and not sure if I'll ever be entirely sure on that front, but so far the response has been positive.)

Also, all of the Grauntie Ford series, the institutionalisation stuff in Reincarnation Blues, the few times I've written non-fade-to-black sex scenes, and - it will look hilarious next to these very serious things to be concerned about - writing accents for Bunny and North from Rise of the Guardians and Fiddleford McGucket. Listen. Getting a distinctive accent - with dialect and slang - right in text is hard.

Mostly what I've taken away from these experiences is that I am frequently my own harshest critic; taking in as much as you can that exposes you to other people's thoughts and experiences and being curious and interested and sincere will take you a long way toward understanding things that you may never have personal experience with; and that it's good to be careful and thoughtful and deliberate when you approach a touchy subject, but being scared of getting it wrong will just make you avoid it or overwrite it into infinity and never get it finished, and it'll actually end up the worse for it. Also that having written something that scares you once makes it easier to do a second time. And how to plan my way through an original plot ahead of time instead of figuring huge chunks of the Dreaded Middle out as I go, which has been immeasurably valuable.

Also that yes, writing accents well is hard, but word choice ends up being like 90% of it.

33. If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read?

Once upon a time, my chapters tended to settle at about 3,000 words. These days, it's more in the neighbourhood of 7,000, which I think is also a nice comfortable length to read - long enough to feel meaty, but not so long that it gets tiring or you start losing track of what happened at the beginning.

I don't generally choose wordcounts for chapters on purpose, though. I tend to go until I've finished my thought, and then stick in a chapter break. On occasion, if a particular chapter's feeling overlong or too-short, I might rearrange where the chapter break goes, or even shuffle a few scenes, but that's a pretty rare occurrence, since I also tend to write chronologically and with my scenes in a pretty fixed order.

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?

All of it all of it all of it all of it all of it. Great artists steal, right?

I have in the past made extensive use of many many things lifted from Terry Pratchett's pockets without his permission or, indeed, knowledge, but perhaps most memorably the idea of writing four hundred words per day (or some similar small, achievable milestone). Do I actually do this regularly? No, but it's a good idea.

13. How much planning do you do before writing?

It really depends on the length of the fic but I always do some. For shorter fics it's often bullet points of the beats I want to hit and the longer the fic the more in depth those will get. With very long stuff, <20k, the planning process is a whole thing. I make tables and charts breaking down thematic plot lines and how they relate to each other vs the driving plot.

I don't have a good one to share just now, but once I finish my big bang I might share the outline for it.

Thorn comm’d Fox about two minutes form his office, which was enough time for Fox to send a reply that Thorn would ignore, Fox to realise he was being ignored, send a second, ruder message that Thorn would also ignore, and finally resign himself to his fate.

The office wasn’t locked when Thorn arrived, and he let himself in.

“I brought you a present,” he announced, placing the bottle down on Fox’s desk, finding space between a stack of filmsi, two data pads, and five empty cups of caf. At least some of the caf looked like it had been sitting for a while and Fox hadn’t downed it all in the last couple of hours.

How much did Fox need to piss?

“You know, when a senior officer comms you, you are expected to read and obey them,” Fox drawled, somehow eyeing the bottle up suspiciously even through his helmet.

“Would you believe me if I said I didn’t understand the message?” Thorn sat in the seat across from Fox, wondering if Fox would be genuinely annoyed if he put his boots up on Fox’s desk or just pretend to be.

“You’re right, this is my fault. I forget you were trained by Alpha-31. I’ll use smaller words next time. Is asshole still too long for you?” Fox hadn't put his work down, but he had lent back in his chair and Thorn could hear the smile in his voice even if it was hidden by his helmet.

“I don’t know, Sir, maybe if you attach a picture?”

Fox snorted and Thorn beamed. Success.

“Seriously though, the drink, Fox. I had to pull rank on a whole squad of troopers to get it for you.” All he’s actually said was that Fox might like the last remaining bottle and all competitors had abruptly lost interest; they were a good bunch.

“What is it?” Fox asked, still not reaching for it.

“Not a clue, some fruit based soda. It's very popular on [planet]. The senator’s nephew gave us a crate.”

“Uh huh.”

Thorn sighed, plenty loudly enough for Fox to hear.

Fox glanced back down at his datapad and there was no way Thorn was letting that fly. He popped the seal on his helmet and pulled it off, dumping it onto the ground by. Checking Fox had looked up again he pulled the tie from his hair letting it fall around his shoulders. It probably looked awful, it had been tied up all day and was still half holding that shape.

Fox didn’t move, except a slight lift of his head and Thorn wished he’d waited until Fox had removed his own helmet.

His hair was very much not regulation and if any other CG officer tried it Fox would hold them down to shave it off himself if he had too. Thorn worked his hands through the loose curls, trying to pull his hair back into a half decent shape.

“It’s against the regs for a member of the Guard to remove his helmet while on duty—“

“Not on duty,” Thorn pointed out.

“—Or otherwise representing the Guard including but not limited to wearing other pieces of his armour or in areas under CG jurisdiction.”

Thorn rolled his eyes, a big obvious motion. Fox never mentioned his hair length though.

“Report me if you want, I know the man in charge and he’s a little bitch,” Thorn said and, stars, he could picture exactly how Fox would be smirking at the challenge.

“Need me to come over there and spank you, Commander?”

Thorn’s mouth went a little dry. He wasn’t even into that shit.

“Big talk for a man too scared to drink a soda he hasn’t heard of,” Thorn said and decided Fox would probably only pretend to be annoyed and placed one boot and then the other up onto Fox’s desk.

Fox lent back in his chair, tossing his datapad onto his desk. Thorn tallied that up as his second win.

“Thorn, the last food you brought me gave the worst shits of my life, the time before that was, according to Prayers, literally poisonous,” Fox pointed out.

“I had both just fine,” Thorn said, “It’s not my fault your delicate constitution can’t handle anything with more flavour than a purple ration bar.”

“You know that excuse won’t hold up when your dragged in front of a tribunal for murdering a superior.”

“There’s just so few chances to advance my career, sir.”

Fox snorted and rolled his shoulders in a way that suggested he’d been sitting still for far too long.

“How was I supposed to know it would make you sick? They told me it was a delicacy.” Thorn had certainly enjoyed it.

“To [aliens], sure. To humans it’s a chance to explain to your medic that trusting you doesn’t require brain damage and regular stupidity will do the job just fine.”

Cyberpunk Get-A-Long Meme

Anyways, Victoria and Adam Smasher:

Y'know those birds that sit in the mouths of crocodiles? That's a near perfect summary of Victoria and Smasher's relationship, except sometimes the crocodile is a temperamental fuck that snaps its jaws shut to keep the bird on its toes, and the bird has a cybernetic limb because of it.

Victoria had very little say when Smasher decided she worked for him, even if she had a lot to say about it. He effectively fucked up the projected trajectory of her career into a completely different path. The first few weeks under him were the roughest since she had to adapt from a quite cosy office job to having an eight foot cyborg barking orders at her at three in the morning, who shattered the bones of her arm after a simple sprain to force her to replace it rather than letting it heal. If there was ever a point she hated him, it was then. Four years later, it'd be hard to put hate on the same street as the two of them. They bicker, insult, and straight up threaten each other but there's very little teeth behind it on both of ends - most obviously on Smasher's considering Victoria is still alive after half the shit she says to his face. Smasher's entertained by the sadistic streak that she's adamant she doesn't have, indulging if not actively encouraging it when their conversations take a morbid turn. She's asked him all sorts of fucked up shit from his favorite kills/methods to advice on torture; he's been her guiding hand through those particular lessons. She took to them like a duck to water and his begrudging fondness for her grew in those instances. Victoria has this image she likes to put forward; one of a calm, controlled woman who has her shit together and knows things you don't want her to know, and he loves riling her up until that persona breaks. He's the only person she's ever lost her shit at and he takes no small delight in the fact. He'll start arguments knowing he's wrong, but he'll be damned if he passes on the opportunity to piss her off for ten minutes straight.

Victoria's fear-turned-awe has settled into fondness for the big headache she calls boss and occasionally shares her bed with. She's well aware of their power imbalance, but it doesn't claw at her pride the same way it used to - not when it clicked that he has that innate imbalance with everyone except maybe the Arasaka's themselves. It thrills her, actually. In ways it really shouldn't - in the same ways seeing him brutalize people does. She's still adamant she's not fucked up btw, even with that evidence stacked against her. And really, he gave her what she wanted even if it took her a while to realise. She still has her comfortable high-end lifestyle, she's stronger than what she was, and his reputation has seeped into her name - providing her a semblance of power she could only dream about prior. She's almost untouchable because of him, able to pull her little strings for fun rather than any careful social game in the corporate ladder.

Her loyalty to Smasher is second only to her dedication to her own self-preservation and tbh those two go hand-in-hand quite nicely.

I’ve not had the best luck with love in the past. I went back to back through two toxic relationships, the only other relationships I’ve ever actually been in. Then I left school for college, and I cut everyone from that place off. College was my new start, my second chance, but I was so lonely. I was too hurt to open up to anyone new, still healing from all that had happened to me. But I needed a friend, and so in the summer holidays after my first year wrapped up, I messaged my old best friend in hopes that we could reconnect and try this whole friendship thing again.

The conversations were sporadic for the first month or so- weekly, at their most regular. But I’d always smile when there was a meme in my notifications. We started talking more, and the week before my second year began, I asked if we could meet up at an arcade and just have fun. Be dumb teenagers for a while. It was a wonderful, amazing afternoon. It felt like nothing had changed since we barely 13 and crying with laughter at YouTube RIP Vine compilations.

And we carried on like that, we talked regularly and he let me talk about wrestling with him. He’d often ask me about it, to hear me excitedly ramble. I’d send him gifs and clips and even though he didn’t get it, he’d want me to be able to talk about my interests. I was so used to being trampled over whenever I tried to speak about my hobbies, it was life changing for me. He’d ask me about my writing, too. And it felt so good to share that with him.

I think it was around a month after we reconnected that I realised that I was in love with him. I had this feeling that it was reciprocated, but I thought I was overthinking at first. I waited over 2 months, hoping he would say it first so I didn’t have to. I was so scared of ruining things, but I reread our text conversations over and over and I just had to know. So two weeks before Christmas, I invited him to lunch, and I asked him out before I could talk myself out of it. I was so nervous, but something in me knew that it would be okay.

And the rest is history, really. He’s amazing and I love him so much. He’s going through a rough patch right now, but even in those moments where he feels hopeless, he’s been so kind and patient and considerate. I couldn’t ask for anyone better.

(I'm gunna be real... I misread this meme X) I missed that it was ic writing- but I put that meme up and I shall deliver! I'm going to do a Stan Lee for these and pretend I'm a character in their universes rather than being their Creator, so, I'm still me and what I say in these is true (minus the basically housebound element, like I will have to pretend I go places and talk to people >w>"), but we're A- removing the chance that they'll either get mad at me over their story or have an existential crisis, and B- making it so that I Don't already know everything about them. Otherwise it'd be more like an interview than a conversation.)

(For this one, I'm going to say... We're sat on opposite benches at the park. I tell my family to go on without me so I don't overdo it on walking. They can circle back and I'll leave with them, but in the meantime, I'll just sit and draw. I decide to draw the guy on the bench across from me. At one point, I stop looking up and down and instead focus on making the wobbly sketched lines of the bench look like actual wood planks. When I look back up, he's suddenly gone. Then I hear a voice close by...)

"Woah- hey that's great!" His sudden comment makes me jump. When I realise it's my missing model, I start to go a little flushed. He chuckles. "sorry to sneak up on you. I had a hunch you were drawing me, so I wanted to look."

I attempt a chuckle of my own, but it comes out more like a heavy, nervous breath. "Yeah, sorry. Did I make you uncomfortable?"

"What? No! Don't be! I'm honoured." he replies, resting on the back of the bench. "I'm Mike, by the way."

"Nice to meet you." I reply, and immediately falter. "Should I uh, label you?" I ask with a nervous smile, sort of pointing my pencil at the sketch. With his own, much more confident and unwavering smile, the man shrugs slightly and says, "Sure~" I scribble 'Mike' off in the top right with a little arrow.

"So uh, how much art does it take to get good like this?" He asks happily. I let out another chuckle-breath and reply, "a lot.", And start going back into the lines of one of his hands to tweak the shapes just slightly.

"I believe it." I don't look back over my shoulder, but I can tell he's watching every movement. "You know I draw a little too. But, not as good as this." He laughs, and I smile.

"Well, the point isn't to be good," I say, hoping my tone is cheery enough to match his (though that'd be a challenge), "it's about doing what you enjoy. And when you enjoy it enough to do it like, 6 days a week for 13 years or so... That practice tends to add up." He lets out a short breath and shakes his head slightly, but I can't quite read exactly what that means. Does he not believe me, or is it that I just made myself sound obsessive or something? Crap. But then..

"I can't imagine having that much dedication to that kind of skill. Though I guess when it comes out this good it's probably easier, right?" he asks with a little chuckle.

"Well, it doesn't always." He makes a sound as though he's about to object, but I cut in, "trust me, there are pages in every sketchbook that I hope never see the light of day."

"Perfectionist huh?"

I look up at him for a second, but get right back to this sketch. "No, not quite. I just.."

"Just need to rework that one finger for the eighth time?" When I look up this time, he's giving me a different kind of smile; mouth closed, brows raised, head slightly tilted. It's a little coy; Like he thinks he's got me in a corner. Which.. may be the case, as I'm not coming up with an answer to his call-out.

"Alright. Fine. Maybe I'm a little fussy with my lines." I say, no shame as i put my pencil back to work again. He gives a short laugh. The kind that sounds like a little overflow of happiness. A pure sound.

"Hey, at least you have passion, right?" He says casually. "I mean, you must have to put so much into it." I give a little hum of agreement as I move on to fixing his hair. "Everybody should have something they love like that." What a nice sentiment. "Something to help them unwind from the day, no matter how bad it gets." And that was a slightly Concerning sentiment. But, he still seemed happy. His eyes don't betray a hard day's experiences, if any existed in there. Instead, they looked at this artwork almost with boyish wonder.

"You know, if you come around this side and sit down, I could draw you properly. Do a little portrait for you."

"Really?" He straightens up a little. I give a little nod, and he steps around the bench, but pauses. "You're not going to charge me are you?"

I smile and roll my eyes. "No, don't worry. Im not like a boardwalk artist. Just, someone who draws."

"A lot." he tacks on with a cheeky smirk as he takes a seat. I roll my eyes again.

"Yep, a lot."

"So. I'm guessing you don't have time for much else, huh?" Ah. Maybe I did make myself sound obsessive. I make a little noise of disagreement, but before I can speak, he says "And don't tell me you paint. That's just art again." He has such a playful smile on his face that I can't help but smile back.

"No, no. I have painted before but, not really my thing."

A couple of quiet seconds pass as I start roughly sketching out the shapes in his hair.

"You do any tabletop games?" he asks me.

"You mean like dnd?"

"Yeah~ That, or, Clue, or Risk or Catan.."

"I- don't even know what that last one is to be honest with you."

In a sort of old kung-fu movie sensei voice (at least I think that's what he's going for), Mike straightens and says "Ah, I have much to teach you." and grins. "But for real. I play a lot. If you're looking for people to play with, I'm your guy."

How should I even respond to that? We don't know each other, I don't even think I told him my name, and now he wants to go play board games? I guess those thoughts were written on my face, because he follows up with "Or not. I mean, I get it if you don't want to go up against the master~ it seems like you probably don't spend a lot of time on other stuff. No offense."

"And switching up a game is a ton of variety?" I offer with a teasing glance.

"Actually, yes, yes it is." He pulls another short laugh out of me at the.. almost mock look of pride he has on now. At least until he breaks and laughs back. "But seriously. Variety is good! You gotta do all the things~" I don't have the energy for even half 'the things', but, I don't want to pull him down talking about all that. Not when he seems so enthusiastic. Ultimately I settle for just repeating "All the things." In sort of a half question, half judgy tone, which doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest. "Go on then, o stranger of enlightenment," I keep the smile on my face, hoping that comes across as lightly as I meant it, "what is it that you do for fun out of 'all the things'?"

"Oh all kinds of things!" He leans forward as he speaks, and though he isn't exactly in my face, I lean away slightly, his enthusiasm just taking me by surprise for a moment. "There's the tabletop, video games, all kinds of movies to watch, bars to hit, parties to go to, I like to jog..."

"Oh, God, really?" Now I'm definitely judging. "You actually run voluntarily?"

He laughs again. "What, what's wrong with running?"

"It's running, that's what." I'm smiling again now, but shaking my head while he chuckles away.

"Yeah, so?"

"So... Ew!" My pencil is now floating uselessly above the paper so I can give this.. jogger my full attention. "If you engage in that kind of thing for fun, I mean, there's something wrong with you. Not even kidding." (A lie, but a playful lie.) "You'd never catch me out there, with those little shorts on that people wear, hopping from foot to foot through the rain just to get back where I started."

"It's not always raining, plus- you can wear whatever you want to wear!"

"Well I choose my pyjamas, so I can relax at home, not exercising thank you very much~" Again, I he laughs, and my eyes flick back to the sketchbook finally to continue. This.. might actually be miles better than the distance drawing. Because this man has the brightest, most persistent smile I've ever seen.

Yellow. Red doesn't like them that much, to be honest he's not a big fan of flowers in general. However, he likes seeing Yellow wearing them, especially because of the cute, somewhat embarrassed face she has when putting them on. This look makes him not hate them that much.

2. Who is the one who likes to cuddle?

Red. He's completely touch-starved.

3. Who has awful taste in music?

I feel like neither, but I think Yellow's the type of person who would listen to the same song over and over again for a few weeks, to the point that Red leaves the room whenever he hears it.

4. Who is the meme lover?

Red. This one is just from the vibes alone, he's been spending way too much time with Gold. His favourite ones are the ones that can annoy Yellow or at least tease her.

Yellow's uncle was very cautious about Red and them dating at first, yet later he warmed up and was happy for them. Yet he still threatened him during their wedding that if something happens to her, he will get him.

In public, no. When they're alone, 100% yes.

After emerald arc they slowly started to realise that they actually enjoy each other's accompany yes Yellow had a crush on him since they first met, but she was always a little intimidated by him, since earlier they didn't have time to meet up or even talk on any sort of occasion, to be honest except for the times when they had to save the world together, they barely knew each other. So they slowly got to know each other better and eventually decided that they want to be together.

Yellow actually sort of decided they'd get married eventually shortly after they first met, and was already making plans. Once when they were passing the jeweler's Yellow saw a gorgeous ring and immediately fell in love with it. Red saw it, but pretended he didn't. Later on he bought this ring and popped up the question durning one of their walks in Viridian Forest, and was very nervous about it, even though he knew she'd say yes.

Red.

Yellow.

Depends on what you mean by obscure. Useless curiosities, mostly about pokémon? Red. Medical shit or sometimes botany? Yellow.

Yellow. If she has to wear one to please both Red and then years later their kids, then she's making him wear one too.

Yellow definitely, however Red also reads something from time to time when interested.

Red, because he's her handsome husband and he has the right to annoy her.

Depends on the topic, but mostly Yellow.

No. Red can't stand rom-coms, meanwhile Yellow is not that fond of thrillers or horrors. Which concludes in them barely watching something together. It's not like they actually watch TV that often though.

I could write the whole analysis with multiple paragraphs about this, but in order of keeping it short I would say that Yellow makes Red prioritise his emotions and needs more, instead of being a people pleaser to everyone like he always is. While Red makes Yellow believe in herself more, making her notice all her worths.

Either Yellow is making a sweet speech during a dinner with the people closest to them, or Red just randomly mentions it, completely out of context durning a conversation like it's nothing.

Surprisingly, Red. He often has to help out Yellow choosing what to wear.

Red will beat the shit out of anyone who even dares to think of mistreating Yellow.

Yellow. She likes to keep pictures as a way to always remember the good things that happen to her, she even prints those photos just to keep them in the albums or on her desk.

I mean... *cough* we already have a canonical explanation to that, Yellow is embarrassed, but sort of happy, meanwhile Red is pretty much chill about it, but doesn't seem to mind.

Somewhere quiet for sure. Either in Red's house in Pallet Town or they would have a small cabin nearby Viridian Forest.

I don't know much about dragons, but they probably would have the baby ones, that are not too big and don't make that much of a mess.

Yellow would be a pacifistic vampire, that feeds exclusively of animals. Red would probably be the same, but from time to time he allows himself to drink blood of the bad guys.

I don't feel like they would dress up, but nun and demon/fallen angel seems suiting.

Absolutely.

They both love to call each other darling.

By being there for one another, either to give advice/help, or just to listen as they vent about their feelings.

Yellow dislikes PDA as she doesn't like being in a centre of attention, she simply feels uncomfortable by it. Red respects it, but from time to time he might kiss her or do something else in front of the others just to tease her.

Yellow is very caring and understanding, yet a bit more strict, and Red is just a spoiling dad, he wants to be the best father ever for his children as he never had a parent figure himself, so he knows the pain. They're both very loving and protective over their kids.

So, hey! I recently came across your posts about AAVE and I wanted to maybe offer a bit of a different perspective on the topic than the other asks you got.

For some context I'm a non-black non-native English speaker from a "second world" country, wherein knowing good English is considered almost a prerequisite to getting a well-paying job. Despite this, English education here is barely adequate at best. So, I personally learn(ed) English mostly from family and media (translated Ghibli movies in particular, both dubs and subs) at first, and then later the internet.

The number of times I've come across a new word, phrase, etc. and then been given a usually meme-y meaning for it that I took at face value (because why wouldn't I? They're a native speaker and I'm not and surely they know what they're talking about!), only to find out weeks, months, sometimes years later that it was 1) AAVE and 2) *butchered* AAVE... is genuinely ridiculous. Who knows, maybe I'm still ignorantly using incorrect language that I learned off the internet and haven't had the chance to educate myself on yet.

All of this to say, if I feel frustrated by the rampant, unabashed bastardisation of AAVE as an actual outsider I cannot imagine how speakers of it must feel. As hollow as the words might ring, I'm sorry the world is like this.

I realise my ask strays a bit from the original discussion, but I've wanted to share my thoughts on this subject with someone knowledgeable for awhile, and hopefully I've managed to convey them respectfully and comprehensively. Thank you for all previous posts you wrote also, they were very well-written and thought-provoking!

I have a couple friends like you- Syria, India, Sri Lanka, Slovenia as well as a few from Japan, and I really don't understand the difference between first/second/third-world and never really have so idk where those fall in that ranking system- and they've all said pretty similar. They learned English partially through their countries' schooling but largely through interacting with Brits/Americans online or through British/American media.

Almost all of them have reported the same- they had no idea certain phrases or words were AAVE and usually extremely butchered, out of context, or totally misrepresented AAVE until well after the meme has passed and now everyone thinks those words/phrases are stupid or "critically online". Nevermind that black people have been speaking like that for longer than white people have bothered acknowledging its existence.

It's especially bad right now on TikTok and was getting to that point on Vine. The difference with Vine was that a lot of black creatives were going viral and so it was seen as the natural course that AAVE usage would be more widespread as people emulated what they heard on these viral videos. However- and to my understanding this problem has only worsened with the death of Vine and the popularity of TikTok- what started happening was that white creatives were in some cases literally stealing content from black creatives and becoming more popular based on things black people invented. We have this discussion with black fashion and black dances, but I've been watching it play out with AAVE too. Now we have entire subcultures using a bastardization of a language that was never supposed to be coming from their mouths, getting praised for it online but chided for it offline, and in a few weeks or months or years when they move on to the next new fad they'll say "wow remember when we all said [butchered AAVE] hahahaha only stupid people talk like that".

I already have seen it happen with "bae", where any time I bring up that it's just AAVE and means "baby" and is a term of endearment some white person always has to go "but it means this in a different language" or "but it sounds stupid" or "um actually it stands for this acronym" or "yeah but only stupid tween girls say it". Now people are starting to do the same thing with "simp", "sheesh", "thicc", "on fleek", "bet"... these are all AAVE words. They are not Gen Z Slang and they're not TikTok slang and they're not just what Kids These Days like to say. They are words that have meaning in a dialect far older than current meme culture and yet like clockwork people who once had nothing but these words in their mouths are now saying the "trend" is stupid and that anyone who talks like that is stupid.

Ok, so I think these questions are supposed to be about drawing, but the first thing that comes to mind is actually a multichapter danganronpa fanfic I wrote the first and part of the second chapter of... back in August 2021... Which some people might know as the month a little music video called MeMe released and caused me to get swept up in MILGRAM... Sorry danganronpa followers 😅 TBH I was kinda annoyed I lost motivation on this one because I had wanted to write a fic for ages but it finally felt like the stars had aligned and I have a google doc of bullet point outlines and everything. The story was going to be Kiyotaka Ishimaru getting his first crush on Makoto Naegi and they sort of have a small puppy love where they go through a lot of the motions of a first relationship, but realise they aren't really compatible and amicably breakup. But then when Taka enters a relationship with Mondo, he is able to use his experiences with Makoto to navigate Mondo's difficulties and insecurities

In terms of drawing, the two biggest have to be my poor ask blog @ask-the-milgram-prisoners (When I started uni I lost all motivation to make comics rather than do other stuff) and I was planning to draw every MILGRAM prisoner in a Shining Nikki outfit but only got up to Muu because I was so pleased by how Fuuta turned out I was worried I couldn't do any better Here's where I got up to with Shidou:

So I was torn between submitting this fic or the omegaverse mind break robot fucking fic, but this one had better paragraph spacing and I guess slightly more cursed content? Also surprisingly enough I did not find this in the dd:dne tag, although really, that would apply. Also it's a sonic fic, probably not super cursed and definitely not the WORST sonic fic out there but I don't have the patience to scour ffn for the really fucked up stuff, so this will have to do. (And yes, I did willingly look at the dd:dne sonic fics, no I'm not okay and yes I'm surprised too that there was nothing there I thought worth submitting).

Anyways. So this fic is about sonic getting captured by the black arms (some alien hivemind race for those who don't know) and being used as their breeding bitch. He wakes up captive in some room where Doom (the leader of the alien race) explains that he is only alive because Shadow (who has Doom's DNA and is therefore his son) wants him to "be part of creation" and since he's the prince and heir to the whole hivemind, Doom let's him keep sonic. He also explains that they cannot experience sexual pleasure like sonic and Shadow can, so they're gonna experience that through the two of them via hivemind shit, and in return for letting Doom experience an orgasm, sonic will get to bear and give birth to the next generation of black arms. Truly the deal of the century

So shadow gets real close and is practically on top of sonic, with Doom in the room and restraining sonic with tentacles. Naturally sonic is protesting the whole time, saying he'd rather die than be involved in this "deranged alien incest" and begging shadow to come to his senses and let sonic go and help him fight back. Shadow refuses and calls Doom daddy, which is certainly a Thing to add on top of the rest of all the shit going on, and he presses their dicks together and starts to jerk them off because Doom isn't going to breed sonic until after he's experienced an orgasm

So, yeah. There's like two or three fics like this (sonic getting captured and bred by the black arms) but this was the first one I found and was the most memorable. Like I said, there's probably way worse sonic fics out there, so this isn't THAT cursed by comparison, but I'm too lazy to go look for them, cause god knows finding fucked up fics on ffn is only easy if you're NOT looking for them
