Run.

That's what I'd done, what I'd been doing, for days.

I'd gotten quite good at it, too. Even with hellhounds or d'roge nipping at my heels, even cradling a wolf-pup in my arms, even after the things teeth bit into my tits, which fucking hurt, by the way, I was good at running.

It helped that hellhounds always tried to tire their prey out rather than simply running it down, and that d'roge preferred most anything else, but human hunters didn't have those issues, and I was quite certain banshee didn't either.

So when I eventually saw them on the horizon, I started moving as quickly as I could.

Or, I would have, had I not been quite, ah, busy.

At least they'd grow up faster than a human child, and hopefully faster than most Skei'yd considering the size of my breasts.

They were, at least, already showing interest in meat.

Welp. No time to experiment now, I had to keep the both of us away from danger, and that meant heading even further south.

Unless they truly believed we were dead, they'd keep coming, and that meant we had to either make a convincing set of corpses, or leave no trace of our existence for at least...

Well, I didn't think either was going to happen out here on the open steppe. They'd see us miles off, and it seemed like they'd gotten professionals on our tail, so the only hope we had was...

The Forest. The Banshee Forest. A place people only went to if they were truly desperate, even if the potential profit was thousands or millions in a single trip.

And I had to, somehow, survive there, well enough to take care of a Skei'yd pup, for years.

Well. Time to go.

I'd learned star mapping from my father, who learned it from his. On the deserts and open prairie of their home, it was a needed skill, and I enjoyed learning. If I kept with it, I may have even been a matriarch, but when he eventually believed I was old enough to truly make that choice, I'd learned a lot of things from other people.

Glad I remembered his lessons, though. Keeping the sun off my back was generally necessary, and the animals here had much better insulation than any of the old clothes I still had.

The march was still long, and every few... days? The first sunset occurred not too long ago, but every once in a while, just when I'd forgotten about them, I saw traces of smoke behind me, heard faint shots ring out.

Always put a spring in my step.

eventually, I'd reached the ice. I knew from reading that there wouldn't be any food out there, and that if it was too warm, It'd break underneath me and I'd be stuck in a freezing ocean, with big fish below and ever moving ice above. I resolved to start out as late, and as cold and southerly, as I could.

Plenty of time to gather good food, freshwater, and warm clothes.

So I began gathering. And hunting. D'roge started burying themselves when the first night came, and now I hadn't seen one in days, so I began looking for where they might've gone. There were also plenty of other burrowers, and a few plants with edible roots, as well as the moss itself were I so desperate, but I was lucky.

A dead hippogriff.

Or at least, some ornitherian. The skull was missing, probably from D'roge, and the guts and ribs were mostly gone, but there was still a lot of good meat left, if you were desperate and dexterous.

Well, I was human, so I had plenty of both.

That night, I continued along the coast of the frozen sea, taking any easy resources I could spy. The rocky beach held a few crabs and some specks of green, but I'd expected less, considering the sea was iced over.

And then, I saw it.

Firelight. Closer than it had ever been before.

Close enough to see the sillhouettes of horses, and their riders.

So, I did the logical thing.

I booked it.

these are weird frog dogs, effectively stolen from @alphynix's Running Frogs, albeit with a few other ecological changes that aren't explored in this story (or at least, not this section :3).

In other news, it's real difficult for frogs to breed when there isn't much water around.

I'm so awkward with it, I just can't do it without being beet red in the face. I can try, but it's got to be part of a bigger story so I don't feel like there's a spotlight on the act.

My favourite tropes are: Rivals to friends/lovers and friends/lovers to rivals. Found family. Secret identities. Funny slice of life situations.

Opinion on shipping (for a specific character or in general): It's good 👍 I'm a huge sucker for slowburn. I don't like jumping into ships because I love building up to them. Sometimes baking the cake is more fun than eating it if you catch my drift.

I get inspired to write by doing this: Listen to music that feels appropriate to the storyline's current mood, hallucinate the scene with my mind's eye, write down the main idea I want to convey in my reply, note a couple of bullet points then take a break and come back when I'm able to revise my ideas and actually write the reply. This is mostly for big threads with big plot points, or threads I've lost the initial creative inertia for. I don't always take breaks to revise, but this is mostly the gist of my process.

One of my favourite threads/drabbles/etc: On my SpyxFam blog, my Yor and I wrote an AMAZING thread in which our fake spouses found each other after my muse had to fake his death. I think it was the best thread I've ever written with someone. My incredible RP partner helped me push against my writing limits & I feel like I am a much better writer thanks to them. I think our thread went for 6 months lol it was such a good experience!!! I've also written Lilith a couple years ago with an incredible Lucifer that I hold fondly to my heart. It was just as good!

6: storyline you keep coming back to again and again (e.g. mike townsend arc, jaylen hotdogfingers’ resurrection, snackrifice, tillman henderson’s return): oh for sure i have to say jaylen’s storyline for this question. but also i think abt the separate tragedies of jessica telephone and donia bailey ALLL the time

12: favorite team aesthetic: probably garages or dale for this tbh!!! i love the spies very very much & the spy/noir aesthetic is very good in theory but we do NOT have a handle on it. meanwhile i cannot say no to blindingly bright neons & im a lesbian i already dress like im on the garages

14: favorite “minor” character (player who’s rarely discussed): DONIA BAILEY! the spies still talk abt her but she goes largely forgotten lol umm here’s a quick(?) rundown (i’m not checking on the wiki for this so excuse any inaccuracies):

she was such a bad pitcher that her lore was literally that she was hired by an enemy agency to sabotage the team

at the beginning of s5, though, she finally gave up on the enemy agency that hadnt contacted her for 5 years and started to let herself care about her teammates, as much as that’s possible for her— she hasnt had a genuine non-self-serving relationship with another human being for years at this point. and then she pitched a cluster of rly good games!!

but after that it became clear that, like, even when she tried she was still. not a good pitcher. and at least she wasn’t lonely anymore but constantly failing the people you love is its own kind of hell

so we campaigned hard to get a blessing that would swap her in as a batter, where she had significantly better stats!

it didnt happen in s5, but then in s6! there was a blessing that would swap our best-pitching hitter at the time, alexandria rosales, in as a pitcher, & there was a chance that this would then swap donia into the lineup! so we went for that

also in s6, there was a blessing along the lines of, like, experimental cloning or something, where the team that won it would get a clone of a random other player in the league. we were also very interested in this, largely for the sinister spy shenanigans of it all.

s6 elections roll around and woo! look! we win the cloning blessing! but uhh. the player we got out of that was evelton mcblase ii. & the player that got kicked off the team— sent to the shadows— in return was donia bailey.

eviltwin is known for being cartoonishly evil and remarkably bad at blaseball. it is for this reason that i think the agency that hired donia removed her from the team in order to plant a more effective saboteur after it became apparent that she cared more about her teammates than she did about working for them.

add insult to injury: we won the pitcher-batter swap blessing, and.. alex took donia’s spot in the rotation, making eviltwin a batter. if we just hadnt won the clone blessing then donia would finally have been able to bat, and maybe she’d have been happy on the team for the first time ever.

instead, she was sent to the shadows alongside mike townsend & unlike him, never got out. she never got the recognition he did, either. she’s just stuck in there! forgotten! i miss her terribly

oh! donia trivia: she’s a cowboy, incredibly abrasive, and was a beloved & irreplaceable member of her roller derby team.

Crossover thoughts - Part 1

So the first thing… the first thing we see during the crossover is Nazi Dark Arrow killing Earth X Guardian, aka James Olsen, aka an African-American man. Am I the only one that was screaming at the screen thinking of the current white supremacy problem? Why was it even necessary to kill a hero like that right off the bat

Okay moving on.. those opening scenes crossing from Central City to Star City etc were amazing, seriously one of my favorite moments from the first two episodes.

We finally, finally get a shot of Olicity together on Oliver’s motorbike. It’s just a shame that they were the size of ants but hey at least it’s canon now!

I really like that they took the time for that Stein and Caitlin scene. It was such a lovely scene.

So Alex and Sara, I was expecting them to get it on, in fact I would have been shocked if they didn’t but I have to say I was surprised it happened so quickly. Although that doesn’t mean it won’t happen again in say.. episode 4.

The second Marvel reference that I know of this year (first being Felicity mentioning the hulk in The Flash 4.05) who would have thought? That whole Stein and Jax scene was cute mentioning Spider-Man and Jax being so hopeful at first until he released his super power would be sticking to things (I really need some @lordmesa-art fanart of Jax just sticking to a wall).

Aww Joe’s speech was perfect.

I could tell from the stills that were released that there was going to be some Olicity issues at the rehearsal dinner but oh my poor heart wasn’t ready for that. Oliver was just so sweet and clumsy about it which made it hurt all the more. Plus I love that he used her full name.

I gotta say, Mick Rory, was just about my favorite part of these two episodes. Wearing that dressing gown, the falling asleep at the ceremony, his crush on Caitlin and trying to ‘scare’ her into Killer Frost. Just all of it.

Oh my god.. is that Dawn.. is that doing to be Dawn Allen? OMG! are we really going to see Barry and Iris’s kid travel from the future? I love this.

Kara singing Iris down the isle was a lovely detail. Actually gave me some goosebumps.

Shame they cut the scene outside the church with Felicity, Iris and Joe helping the guests get to safety but I understand with so much going on why it was.

I’m confused about why they knocked Cisco unconscious. I’m guessing he is going to come to the rescue next episode since Felicity, Iris, Kara and Harry since they trapped in Star Labs. There have been spoilers of him driving the waverider at some point so I’m guessing he must wake up pretty soon into episode 3.

Prommy Tommy.. called this one way back in September when they release that first ‘comic’ poster. But I mean come on, did we have to watch Oliver watch his best friend die for a second time?

I’m really starting to get really frustrated with the idea of Oliver and other women. I’ve always though Oliver and Felicity were special but the writers keep showing Oliver in relationships with other women and where he is ‘all in’ he loves so easily which feels somewhat contradictory to his past and who he used to be. When he was with Sara he wanted to move in together. Last years crossover and it was marrying Laurel and this year its Earth X Oliver being married to Earth X Kara. The more they write these storylines the more frustrated I get. We have something special in Olicity, why can’t that be enough?

I completely understand Felicity being cautious about marrying Oliver and being scared after all that happened with them and what happened with her parents but I really wish they had let her explain to Oliver what she was really feeling and not that she doesn’t want to get married and to ‘respect her on this’. Feels unnecessarily cruel to leave Oliver hanging like that, giving him doubts about her love for him.

The more these episodes progressed with Martin talking about his family and retiring I kept repeating to myself like a mantra, please don’t let him die. I know there were spoilers about him dying and I know Victor is leaving the show but is it too much to hope that he gets to go off and retire in peace with his family? Please.

Iris and Felicity stuff is all great. I love that we are finally getting to see some female friendships get some much needed screen time and I hope there are even more scenes like this in the next 2 episodes.

‘Superspeed, I don’t have it’ scene was a funny little moment.

Okay so this one is really bothering me, could someone please explain to me why Eobard gives a shit about saving Overgirl? I mean I get the plan was to take control of Earth 1 with their stupid regime but mostly they have been trying to save Earth X Kara, so again why does Eobard care? What’s his angle in all this?

Really liked the tech talk scene about tracking down Earth X Kara and I really loved that they included Alex in on it. I feel like her experience in bio-engineering gets forgotten a lot so it was nice that she’s included not just on the action sequences but this one too. And as much as I also liked the Felicity/Harry dynamic I did find myself missing Cisco.

That Oliver, Barry and Iris scene killed me again. How could Oliver think that Felicity doesn’t love him as much as he loves her?

Was anyone else extremely distracted by Caity Lotz stunt double? Her hair was several shades lighter and longer than Caity’s so I could instantly tell without trying when Caity was on screen and when it was her stunt double.

‘Anyone else want to be a hero’ actually cheered at this scene when NTA came in. I didn’t realise how much I had missed them til that happened.

I’ve been finding the group fight scenes in Arrow a little hard to follow lately it jumps so quickly from one person to another but I didn’t have that problem with the big fights scenes in the crossover. Not sure if that is to do with the size of the sets they were filming on or the stunt coordinator but it was good.

So how does Earth X Kara getting a new heart help her radiation issue? like.. that’s not how radiation poisoning works, it doesn’t just attach to one organ. 

So Iris and Felicity weren’t captured just trapped in Star Labs. Maybe they have a hand in waking Cisco up before they get found?

Am I the only one who genuinely thought this episode was going to end of the cliffhanger of our favorite heroes on a firing line? I’m surprised it ended the way it did.

Okay so that’s it. While there were a lot of little moments I liked through these episodes I feel quite indifferent about them as a whole. That said though I’m very interested to see how things wrap up tomorrow. If only for that happy scene we know is coming at the end :)
