Note
bich for the ask meme
when I started shipping it if I did:
okay. i don't know when. i don't know dates don't ask me about dates. BUT. it was a few years ago bc i think they're cute
my thoughts:
a) i was tired of rich only being shipped with the guys bc bisexuality means both and mlw relationships are just as much a part of bisexuality as mlm or wlw. but also b) the idea of them NOT being paired together in canon was wild to me? like theyre both the "second in commands" to their best friends who are dating. ur telling me they didn't end up on pseudo-double-dates. that they didn't make out at LEAST one time. ur wrong actually.
What makes me happy about them:
they both have. such potential to be so sickeningly cute. the seconds finding solace in each other. forced hangouts while squipped turning into rekindled friendship afterward and then realizing that while their friends were the "couple" that they work better together. brooke loving the more "nerdy" aspects of rich and rich liking her jokes and her passion and her personality sans chloe. look. they have such a potential.
What makes me sad about them:
the entirety of their relationship before the play. like. they don't like each other because they're both pretending to be someone they're not. but once they let themselves be who they actually are, they find they have more in common than just friends. but they dont get that for YEARS so they don't even see it.
things done in fanfic that annoys me:
i haven't read enough of them. shocker. i don't. read a lot of fic actually. but in general i hate when people make rich either a) too much of a dick or b) too much of a. not a goofball. but too. passive? and i hate when people make brooke too passive too. let them be little petty bitches please sir.
things I look for in fanfic:
ideal bich fanfic is them never talking about their feelings because its really fucking complicated, and then something dramatic happens where they have to find solace in each other. i will not say the other thing bc its an idea thats rattling around in my head i kinda wanna write.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
i like brooke with christine and sometimes jeremy, but only in specific circumstances. i don't... love rich with anyone else really? i don't see him as romantic with any of the bmc guys bc of clashes in personality. (not that i don't see him with a guy at all. just not Those Specific Guys.) and the other girls are also incompatible with him imo. tldr brooke is cute with other people, rich is a special case.
My happily ever after for them:
they would have the most fun goofy wedding that all their friends are invited to. i think they'd be that couple who has like 4 dogs of varying sizes that goes on hikes and vacations a lot and posts sappy corny instagram posts of each other. they r the only bmc ship i have that i see getting married.
who is the big spoon/little spoon:
they swap, obviously. two bisexuals in a relationship? they are not making a decision. also they're of similar heights in my head so i think they'd be good.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
as previously mentioned. i think they'd really like hiking? not like. super long hard hikes but like walking trails and talking a lot. for some godforsaken reason i also see them having a podcast. don't ask me why.

wrote a fanfiction and wanted to draw something to go with it!!
if you want to read some sickeningly sweet ooc overlord with nightlight please take a look under the cut. i’m happy with how it turned out because i really didn’t take it seriously like i’ve tried in the past.
“Nightlight’s Shadow” <2k words rating: GEN tw: mild canon-typical violence
-------------
“What’s wrong?”
Overlord peered through the door, hunching over significantly. The phase-sixer was incredibly bored, having killed everyone he felt like and no missions assigned to him for a long while. When Overlord was bored and without those to maim, he went to go bother Nightlight.
The minibot sat in the shape of a ball on her berth. Her helm was tucked between her knees, and her little horns poked out, the only thing clueing Overlord in that “Oh, that part of the purple dot is her head.” When she looked up at Overlord, he thought to himself that this was the most pitiful face she had made to-date.
The towering bot squeezed into the room, scraping the doorframe with his shoulders as he stomped in (he wasn’t stomping on purpose, it was simply a feature of his size), his pillar audials threatening to pierce the ceiling. Nightlight’s accommodations were definitely made with efficiency and budget in mind. Why would anyone waste shanix and space on the ship just in case someone larger than a pea wanted to visit this room? Overlord thought he should carve out the wall and ceiling so his visits weren’t so difficult.
“What’s wrong?” Overlord asked again, and Nightlight turned to face away, “Why the long face?”
“I’m not a good Decepticon,” the tiny bot started. Her voice was quivering and hoarse, like she had been crying. Little cheekplates having subtle remnant streaks of tears confirmed this. “I’m not scary. Everyone keeps being mean to me. The bigger bots push me and call me names, even when I don’t do anything to them.”
“Why don’t you kill them?” replied Overlord like it was obvious. He had slithered onto the berth, laying sideways lazily behind Nightlight, his legs curled so he could fit. Luckily the slab was medium size, having not been made specifically for Nightlight, but it still creaked horribly under Overlord’s weight.
“I can’t do that! I’m not strong enough like everyone else. I’m not big. I can’t beat them up....I...every time I try to fight back,” her face scrunched up and her voice became even higher pitched and even wobblier, “I...I get my- my tailpipe kicked!”
Nightlight choked and whined, stifling a staticky sob in her forearms. She clearly felt so strongly about these simple tussles that it pained her enough to cry. The poor thing. The blue mech brought her into his chest with his big servo like a hockey stick to a puck.
“Don’t cry,” Overlord cooed, “I’ll give you advice.” Nightlight peeked at him from her arms. “You can’t beat them up and you can’t grow any. But that doesn't have to stop you.”
“When I walk around, everyone moves. As if I have a force field. Nobody gets in my way.” He gestured to Nightlight with his chin. “Why do you think that happens?” She looked away again, not in an attempt to hide her tears, but in thought.
“Um….because you’re really tough,” the moped said, “And, um, you’ll, maybe you’ll beat them up if they’re mean to you.” Nightlight always said things like “maybe” when talking about if Overlord would do something violent or not. Like she wasn’t sure if he was a bad mech, or she didn’t want to accuse him of anything. How kind.
“Yes, that’s true. I’m very tough.”
“But I’m not...it wouldn’t work for me. I’m not really-”
“Yes it would.”
Nightlight stuttered a few syllables of denial before resorting to looking at Overlord with a tipped helm in confusion. Overlord couldn’t help but laugh.
“When I walk around places where nobody knows me,” he said, “Where nobody knows I could mash them to a slurry, my force field still works. That is because I hold myself a certain way. I hold myself with an expectation that everyone fears me,” the duocon puffed out his chest plating a little, and it made a “clink” sound when it tapped his tiny companion, “With confidence. Confidence in myself and that the force field will work no matter what.” He smiled triumphantly. “Lo and behold, the seas part.”
Nightlight looked at him like he was the coolest mech on Cybertron. She had uncurled and instead was facing him, sitting with her knees forward and her pedes behind her. “So,” she spoke with a bit more pep in her voice, “they don’t know you’re strong...but they still kind of know you’re strong because you walk so confident.”
“Exactly.”
“But...but I don’t think I could do that.”
“Why not?”
“Cause what if I pretend to be strong and then they figure out I’m not and they beat me up?”
“If you walk with enough confidence, they won’t challenge you. And if they do, you threaten them. Then they run off like little glitchmice, with not a finger lifted.” Overlord waved his free servo as he talked, and Nightlight rubbed her fists on her optics and cheeks as he spoke, scooting closer to him.
“If I was injured in a way that left me unable to fight, but able to use my words, I would still win. In that moment, when I threaten them, it is not pain they are afraid of,” he explained, half-lying. Overlord loved to taunt, but he rarely threatened. If someone challenged him, most of the time he smashed their head in immediately. “I’m not touching them. They aren’t experiencing it. What they fear is the prospect of pain. All you have to do if you want to scare them off is make them believe you’ll rip them apart.”
Overlord had a feeling he was losing her, given her big optics staring at him. Or maybe that’s just how she looked. He poked her in the chest with acquired gentleness. “I can teach you. I can make you like me,” he said, “You can be intimidating. And nobody will ever bother you.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
-------------
Nightlight had such a tall stack of datapads in her arms that the top of the pile concealed her face. She had to stumble slowly in the hall and occasionally, carefully glance to the side of the stack to see that there was nobody in front of her, and issue out “excuse me”s and “I’m sorry”s accordingly.
Overlord’s lessons on being braver and more intimidating had not yet been put into practice. Fortunately so, in Nightlight’s optics. The two wheeler hadn’t come across anybody who felt like bullying her for a whole week, and she was hoping her lucky streak would last forever. She didn’t want to try out what she had learned from the phase-sixer, even though out of everybody on the ship, he was probably the best person equipped to teach it. Nightlight didn’t want to mess up.
Turning a corner like an old bot driving slow on the highway, she scooted forward on her pedes and shifted her grip on the datapads. She felt the datapads sliding, and she “eep!”ed as she steadied them, and they settled back in place. “Whew,” she whispered.
Despite her dearest wishes on shooting stars, Nightlight didn’t get much time to be relieved. Just as she found her footing again, some mecha decided to sneak up beside her and stick their pede out. The minibot made a brief yelping sound before landing on her front, some of the datapads breaking her fall, layered like a deck of cards. The rest scattered and clattered around them. The floor and the pointy edges of the datapads poked and scraped her chassis and hands.
“Oops,” said the bot above her, laughing. She recognized him from his voice. She didn’t know his name. “Heh, watch where you’re going, squirt.”
Nightlight stayed on the floor for a moment, facing down, steeling herself and her urges to cry. It was action time. She got up, pushing herself with her tiny servos, whipping herself around with gusto and pointed her finger right in the mech’s face.
“How about YOU watch where YOU’RE putting your STINKY PEDES, BUSTER!!”
The Decepticon stood with his mouth agape. He stared at Nightlight like she had grown another helm. Her being any bit of aggressive was pretty equivalent, really. “Wha-” he snorted, before barking out laughter that scraped Nightlight’s audials from being too loud. “What’s your problem, Autobot model? You think you can just waltz up in here and get sharp with me? You lookin’ to get pummeled?”
“You’re the one asking for a beating, stupidhead!” Nightlight yelled back with surprising volume, looking up at the considerably taller mech, even stepping towards him with gritted teeth. She stomped at him and almost jumped towards him doing so, looking like a dog trying to chomp at a chewtoy placed above it. “Get out of my way or pick these up,” she pointed at the datapads now, “and take them to room L2400! Or I’ll rearrange your face so much you’ll have to get your whole head replaced!!”
Nightlight, venting hard, felt equal amounts proud and equal amounts terrified. She had used the strategies Overlord taught her! Nightlight had tried her hardest and her best, put on her scariest face with her scariest voice. Hours of practice with Overlord, of him showing her how to be unabashed and angry, were coming to fruition.
The mech looked like he wanted to say something else, but instead he froze up, his expression contorting into a wide-eyed frown. He frantically vented, taking a few quick breaths before letting out what Nightlight could only describe as a “squawk”. His helm darted between facing forward and towards the datapads. He was shivering so hard his chassis rattled. Was it working?
“I’ll do it! I’ll do it, I’ll pick up the datapads!” he threw himself at them, scooping them up like they were shards of his spark. Nightlight couldn’t help but look on with her mouth in the shape of an O. “Just leave me alone, okay?! I don’t want any trouble anymore!”
“Really?!” asked the purple minibot, “I, I mean, yeah! And I don’t wanna ever see your dumb ugly face ever again, got it?!” She shook her fist at him, throwing in a growl to her intimidation tactics. It sounded like a baby cyberwolf.
Taking no time to look back or even respond, the mech rushed off with the datapads in his hands. He screamed and practically jumped in the air when Nightlight yelled “L2400!” to remind him of where he was supposed to be going.
When the bot disappeared in the hallway, Nightlight stood still. She seemed to start to gradually vibrate, before exploding in excitement, jumping around the hallway, squealing and screaming, dancing and throwing her fists all around. She did it! She did it! She was intimidating! She could stand up for herself! She didn’t have to be bullied anymore! She was a real Decepticon!
Nightlight then felt a little guilty. She put her servo to her mouth and thought. The mech looked so scared. Had she been too mean?
No, she hadn’t been. Overlord told her that she should stand her ground, go full force, and dish back exactly what her bullies were doing to her. There was nothing wrong with that. An optic for an optic, and then some. The moped bounced in place. Overlord would be so proud of her!
“...I have to tell him!” she said, out of breath. She dashed down the hallway despite this, giggling and cheering, back in the direction she came from.
As Nightlight skipped away, Overlord stood at the other end of the corridor, in direct line of sight of where her bully had been standing. He backed away into the darkness with a wicked smile.

Hi, thank you for sending me asks, I really appreciate it! :D Could you do 002 for klave, I always want to hear your thoughts about them <3
my buddy, my dude, it’s been roughly 17 years since you sent this ask, and i’m oh so sorry for taking this long to answer. it got to be one of those situations where i wanted to do it Properly, which of course brought the anxiety, which of course then brought the avoidance. But we’re here now! it’s a new era and i have a whole bunch of klave thoughts to dump on my unsuspecting followers. let us begin.
when i started shipping it:
Pretty much immediately! I remember first watching s1 and getting that slow confirmation that Klaus time traveled to the Vietnam War. We saw him on the bus with his fatigues and bloody hands and I was like ‘oh god oh no he went to Vietnam didn’t he.’ And then later we have Klaus experiencing flashbacks in the bathtub and there are echoes of the noises of war but also a strong and clear “Dave!” And in that moment my interest was piqued. Dave, he said? Who is this Dave? Is this someone he loved? Did he have a war-time romance with another soldier? And I was hopeful but I also didn’t want to get too ahead of myself because of Queer Baiting in Media reasons (like, I was in the marvel fandom, ok? I went through the whole stucky dance routine). But then, but then! We got more. We got roughly five minutes (or less?) of scenes of Klaus dropping down in front of a disoriented soldier, of this soldier introducing himself as Dave on a bus, of Klaus and Dave dancing in a bar, of Klaus and Dave sharing a kiss in a quiet corner, of Dave bleeding out and dying in the middle of combat as Klaus sobs above him. And it was quick and it was short but it was meaningful and it was tender and immediately I knew that I was gone for them. There was no turning back at this point. I was all in on the Klave Train.
my thoughts:
My thoughts? Where do I even start? I have many! Some are incoherent! Some are devastating! Some are sickeningly sweet! Some are raunchy! Stay tuned to find out!
what makes me happy about them/what makes me sad about them:
So I decided to combine these two questions because, well, I Do Not Know how to untie the happy and the sad when it comes to klave. I tried and I cannot do it. They’re two sides of the same coin with these two. Because their entire relationship is tinted by tragedy, you know? They only met each other because Klaus was tortured and then flung into a notoriously traumatizing war in the 1960s. And who knows what number tour Dave was on. Had he been there for just 2 months or was this second or third time around? I’m not sure which option is more painful, really. And it’s unclear, did Dave genuinely want to serve in the military? Did he truly subscribe to those values instilled by his family? I’d lean towards no, based on the conversation Klaus tries to have with the Younger Dave in the diner. But I think it took Dave some time to get there, as he grew older and came to better understand and accept himself and perhaps grew more and more disillusioned with the life he was pushed into. And then there’s Klaus, whose own experiences somewhat parallel Dave’s (they just happened on a different timeline). Klaus, who grew up under Reginald’s reign of terror, who was taught to be a soldier just like Dave was. But his own disillusionment was expedited and he was able to rebel and remove himself from that scene more easily than Dave could (but at the expense of losing shelter and security and stability). And we have some insights into what it was like for Klaus to grow up in that environment, constantly surrounded by death. When we first meet him he is a person who clearly does not do genuine attachment or sincerity, because that is far too vulnerable and far too dangerous in his experience. He looks out for himself and he does what he needs to do to get by, and he approaches things from a casual, crass (safe) distance. And then there’s Dave, who we learn a little bit about from his interactions with Klaus in 1963 Dallas. He appears earnest and kind, just a Really Good Kid. He seems somewhat confused by Klaus, but also intrigued. Pretty much every time we see Klaus interact with someone in the 1960’s who is not a member of Destiny’s Children they approach him with disdain (referring to him as “pretty boy,” kicking him out of the diner, etc.). But not Dave. Not until he is pressured into it by Uncle Homophobe. And after that Dave seeks him out and apologizes, says that’s not him. And he and Klaus talk, and we see that they really knew each other, they really had a relationship, but by the end of the conversation Dave has been pushed too far. He’s not quite ready to rebel yet, he’s not quite able to make that leap into living as his true self. Just like Klaus, Dave grew up trapped and restricted and surrounded by ghosts. Not literal ones, no, but the ghosts of dead war heroes who came before him, the ghosts of the Ideal Man and Good Son that he thought he had to be, that he thought he had to prove he could become. And it’s not quite clear how and when Dave finally got to that point where he could rebel, where he could finally push past the fear, knock down the walls of the box he had been shoved into. But by the time he and Klaus crossed paths in 1968 Vietnam he was ready. And Klaus was ready. And they brought that genuine, true, real love out in each other. Something both of them probably thought was never possible. Something both of them probably thought was just a myth. Just turning themselves inside out and sharing that with each other. Trusting the other to take care of it and hold and keep it safe. All in the middle of a deadly war. It’s beautiful and it’s painful and it’s why I love them.
things done in fanfic that annoy me:
Nothing really specific comes to mind. Generally if there’s something I don’t like in a fanfic I’ll stop reading and move on. There is, of course, the Fanon Klaus Problem that makes its way into klave fics, so I suppose that annoys me. Or stories where Dave is one-dimensional and seems to exist just to comfort and take care of Klaus. But really, I don’t wanna hate on anyone who writes fanfic in a particular way. You do you. If it appeals to me I’ll read it and if it doesn’t I’ll just pass it by. No big deal.
things i look for in fanfic:
It absolutely depends on the day and what I’m in the mood for in that particular moment. I’m a sucker for angst so I absolutely do not mind reading something terribly sad and tragic. I like hurt/comfort with an emphasis on the hurt. I’m a fan of the GhostDave Watches Over Klaus Through the Years genre. I like stories that explore their time together in Vietnam. I’m into AU’s that include AliveDave traveling back to 2019 with Klaus and they hang out in Klaus’ room in the academy and Dave meets the siblings and Diego gives him a shovel talk. Sometimes I just want that sweet, sweet smut. Mostly I look for something that is both lovely and sad, which is not hard to find because that is, essentially, their relationship. There’s lots of good stuff out there. All y’all writers are talented. I salute you.
my kinks:
Alright, I’m just gonna preface this by saying that I will try my best to be unapologetically open about this, but at my core I am both shy and repressed. My easy and safe answer to this is that my kink for klave is love, happiness, and tender intimacy. That’s what I really want for them. But also. But also! Let them be smutty! Let them find places to sneak away and fuck, Dave’s hand over Klaus’ mouth to stop him from making noise that will alert the other soldiers to their activities. Or maybe they’re sitting under a tarp in the pouring rain and Klaus sees how far he can take it, and Dave doesn’t back down, and it ends up with Klaus blowing Dave while some other guys are sitting just feet away, oblivious to what’s going on between Katz and Hargreeves just over there. And then there’s that time they get to take leave together, and they’re able to get a hotel room, just to themselves, with real walls and a door that locks and a bed and everything. And the digs aren’t great but it feels like a palace compared to what they’re used to, and they absolutely do not waste this opportunity. Dave fucks Klaus into the mattress, and Klaus gets to learn what it’s like to have someone take control because you actually want them to and you feel safe with them, and Dave gets to learn what it’s like to have someone trust you implicitly and be willing to be vulnerable with you. And it’s not perfect, of course, sometimes their histories and understandings of sex and intimacy bump heads, but they love each other, they really do, and they work through it. And they both cry during sex at some point. For Dave it’s the first time he’s done so, for Klaus it’s not (but this is nothing like those other times this is because he wants to be here this is because he’s overwhelmed with love this is a release this is being seen this is being cared for).
who i’d be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other:
Let me be real and say that I really, really, really want them to end up with each other, and I think that this is where the show is headed. But, if that is not the case, as long as they are happy I will be happy. Perhaps that is cliche, but oh well. Just let them experience love and support, whether that’s with each other, someone else, or just on their own.
my happily ever after for them:
I don’t know how and I don’t know when (like seriously, when in the timeline is a big question), but I want them to find a way to be together. Maybe it involves some time-traveling, maybe it involves some timeline-hopping, maybe it involves some Commission interference, maybe one or both of them will be dead, maybe (most likely) it involves something that has not even crossed my mind as a possibility. But, like I said, I think that somehow there WILL be a (perhaps nontraditional) happily ever after for them. It might take some time to get there and I don’t think it’s gonna be a smooth road, but I do think that’s the ultimate destination. And I’m looking forward to the whole process.
who is the big spoon/little spoon:
Good question! My first instinct was Klaus as little spoon. Because he is Klaus but also because of the Bar Kiss scene where Dave tenderly cradles his face and those Very Important blurry behind the scenes instagram photos of Klaus resting his head on Dave. But I also think it would be really nice for Dave to be the little spoon? Because Klaus gets to hold him and act as a Protector and maybe he can feel Dave’s heartbeat beneath his (hello) hand and he gets to wrap around him and hold on tight and he can let go when he wants to but he doesn’t want to, he wants to stay right here as long as Dave will have him. And Dave will have Klaus wrapped around him, holding on, as long as Klaus wants to stay. Dave gets to be held and cocooned in the arms of this beautiful person he loves. Dave doesn’t have to be strong right now, he doesn’t have to put on the face of the Good Soldier. All he has to do is fall into the space between them.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
I’m gonna say that they had a lot of time to sit together and talk while they were in Vietnam. Sure, they had their duties and sometimes they were in the shit but there was also a lot of down time, just sitting around and waiting for something to happen. And so they’d sit and they’d smoke and they would talk. About their interests, about where they come from, and eventually about the life they would build together after they got out of there. But here’s a specific image that I have: they’re sitting close together, maybe it’s dark, there’s no one nearby. Cigarette smoke lingers in the air, mingles with the fine mist. The conversation has turned to music, somehow. Conversations have a tendency to meander when Klaus is involved, and Dave follows him step for step, never tripping, never questioning how they got there. And Klaus asks Dave about his favorite song, and Dave hesitantly mentions “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence,” like he’s embarrassed, but he’s loved it for years and he wants to be honest with Klaus. And Klaus hums and says he doesn’t know it, hasn’t heard of it, and he leans against Dave, lays his head against his chest. And Dave says, that’s ok, it doesn’t matter, it’s just a stupid old song anway. But Klaus says, no, you should sing it for me, I want to hear it, I want to know it. And Dave scoffs and laughs, but Klaus looks up at him, and then Dave looks away, and his mouth lifts into a smile, something small and fragile. He turns back to Klaus, looks him the eye, and softly, so softly, starts singing, “When Liberty Valence rode to town, the womenfolk would hide…” And Klaus drops his head and shifts closer to Dave and hears the words slip from Dave’s mouth and feels the words vibrate in Dave’s chest. He closes his eyes. There’s a war going on. It’s 1968 and he’s in Vietnam and his clothes are damp but he’s right where he wants to be. The song is not romantic, but it’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever heard. He never forgets the words.

pauran | ship
This is a Mystic Messenger ship for my friend @httphimitsu!! Inbox is open for ships. Click here to see the ship package, click here for fandoms list
my name is paulina, and my nickname is pau! my pronouns are she/her and i’m bisexual! i’m pretty short, 4’11, and kind of pale. i have freckles that cover my cheeks and nose, as well as shoulder-length wavy brown hair! the word people most often use when they describe me is “cute”, and i’m trying my best to believe them!!! i really like drawing, writing, baking, and admiring/collecting cute things!! i get emotional pretty easily... if i look at a stuffed animal for too long, i’ll start to think about all the love that was poured into making it, and how cute it is, and the tears start to flow! i also really like fashion, especially girly princess-like clothing, but i don’t stick to a specific style. looking ladylike and well put-together just makes me feel happy! i was born and raised in puerto rico, and around there, most people are very warm and friendly, which definitely shaped who i am today! i love helping people and offering advice, and will stop at nothing to make those i love happy. however, i do tend to get a little gloomy sometimes, and i can get very anxious around new people to the point where i just get overwhelmed and shut down. i’ve gotten a lot better over the years though! :o) progress! i am TERRIFIED of cockroaches!!! i hate them more than any other bug. if i see a big one, i will freeze and start crying. i know it sounds pathetic but i can’t help it! i also hate comment sections. too often, i’ll find myself scrolling through the most ridiculous and hateful comments and just get myself upset. people can be so stupid! i hope that’s enough about me.. it might be.. more than enough!!! but just let me know!!! :o)
I was tempted to ship you witH;
Jaehee: Because you both obviously love to bake. You’d meet her by applying to the bakery and yall would fall in love.
Saeyoung: Because you two seem really similar! He’s also a lover of cute things. You seem like someone Saeyoung would fall so hard for
Vanderwood: Because I’m a sucker for goth boy x pastel girl. enough said.
ANYWAY I ship you with Saeran, though!!!
More specifically, Ray
Tumblr media
let’s dive right into the good stuff
Ray is the first to take a liking to you. Unknown and Edgy Saeran find you annoying, but only because you’re really adorable. You’re the perfect counterpart for Ray. He thoroughly enjoys giving you the dresses you enjoy. You two make Rika gag because you’re both so cute together. You basically match all the time.
Expect lots of picnics in the garden with Ray!
Your ship name with Ray is Rayna because it’s CUTE OKAY??
Unknown finds you......funny. You’re strange to him, at first. He wonders how you can be so calm when he’s starkly different from Ray. He thinks it’s annoying when you go on about how he is Ray, how you love Saeran for who is his blah blah blah. Unknown comes around to you when you begin to bake for him. He’s a sucker for baked goods and he can really feel the love. You and Unknown are the epitome of goth boy x pastel girl, like with Vanderwood. Unlike Vanderwood, Unknown is very edgy. You’re essentially his root to the earth. You keep him calm. He pretends he doesn’t like your affection but he does. He thinks it very adorable how emotional you are. He pretends he keeps you around for sex and other material reasons, but he actually loves you very much. He’d go insane if something happened to you.
I can’t think of a ship name for you two. Paulina x Unknown sounds like a cool fanfic or story though.
Suit! Saeran is.......
Hmm. How can I explain the nature of Suit! Saeran. He’s pretty crazy. He is taunting and he intially makes fun of you for being the another version of Ray. You’re sickeningly sweet and he hates that. He doesn’t like how friendly you are. We Puerto Ricans are known for being outward, extroverted, and over all friendly. You’re likely a physical person, and he doesn’t like that. Don’t try to hold his hand. But secretly DO try to hold his hand. The more affectionate and “normal” you are with this Saeran, the more likely he is to calm down and accept being regular Saeran Choi.
Once it’s all said and done (Mint Eye is destroyed, Rika is in therapy but also being investiagted for her knowledge of chemicals because she fucking made her own brand of lsd and that’s something no one pays attention to or says anything about????? she probably grows cocaine or some shit. she’s crazy), Saeran is very likely to want to live right beside Saeyoung, so be ready for that. I really can’t see Saeran wanting to be separated from his brother. You three probably live together!
Saeyoung likes you because you’re fun, you make his brother happy, and you two are very much alike. You have a lot in common with Saeyoung and sometimes that drive Saeran up the wall. When you and Saeyoung team up and start the ridiculous Team Rocket nonsense, Saeran just has to stick his head in the freezer and wonder why you two are the way you are.
He actually likes it though. He’d be so heartbroken if his brother and his girlfriend didn’t get along.
Saeran is a pastel goth, I believe this so firmly. He still likes baked goods. He’s more willing to accept the physical affection from you, and once he’s comfortable and healed after Mint Eye, he’s going to be all over you. Always hand holding!!!!
Saeran will protect you from cock roaches. Don’t worry. Saeyoung definitely would not, though. Sometimes he hears Saeyoung scream but he thinks it’s you, so he runs in and sees Saeyoung freaking out over a cock roach. Saeran just rolls his eyes, picks it up, and flushes it down the toilet. Saeyoung would probably scream and run to find you, then let you know Saeran touched a cock roach with his bare hands.
You and Saeyoung bully Saeran into washing his hands for about fifteen minutes straight. Saeran knows he’s not getting any action unless he does this for your peace of mind. Otherwise you won’t be into it, because all you’ll be thinking about is Saeran’s fingers literally just held a cockroach.
PAURAN! PAURINA! SAELINA! SAU!!! SAULINA!!!! I COULD COME UP WITH SO MANY SHIP NAMES FOR YOU GUYS
Your theme song with Saeran is The Way I Am, by Ingrid Michaelson. The song here goes both ways. You love Saeran for who he is; you love every part of his personality, even the darkest parts. He would do anything for you.

i wanna read every word, chapter 2
by airauralintensity (aka me, jasonbehrs!)
“Have you ever fallen in love with someone you’ve never met?” “Uh, do you mean like we’ve-been-doing-long-distance-slash-online-dating or like I’ve-been-crushing-on-the-cute-barista-at-the-library-cafe?” “Ummm, more like I’ve-read-their-poems-and-sure-they’re-very-talented-but-their-handwriting-alone-makes-me-smile.” “… That’s oddly specific.”
fandom: kpop, super junior characters: eunhyuk, ryeowook; guest appearances by the rest of sj-m and yesung ship: eunwook genre: romantic comedy themes: alternate endings, strangers to lovers, handwriting, identity reveal setting: college chapter: 2/4 word count: 5.2k
read it below or on ffnet, aff, wattpad
A/N (6.6.2021): Welcome to the next installment folks! Some clarifying things:
- This is the first of two alternate endings to the story, which answers the question, 'What if Ryeowook finds out first?'
- I got some interesting reviews/PMs about the last chapter? Eunhyuk isn't pining after Yesung or anything, and I didn't mean to indicate that would be an aspect of the story. If you were looking forward to it, I'll be disappointing you today haha. Feel free to let me know how much you hate me in a review ;)
Also, today would have been my grandmother's 102nd birthday, so I'm dedicating this chapter to her since she always loved seeing me write. Love you, Nanay!
~~~
He and Hyukjae haven't hung out alone before, but he's sure this won't be awkward. Their only real link may have just been Yesung, but Hyukjae successfully ingrained himself into their entire friend group in the short weeks since they first met. Besides, even if Hyukjae weren't so willing to help him with his twisted scavenger hunt for love, Ryeowook thinks he'd like to hang out with him some time anyway. He's grown to like Hyukjae, really.
At least, that's what he tells himself when he turns the corner and sees Hyukjae sitting alone on a bench in the quad with his legs crossed, a laptop over one knee and an open notebook on the other, waiting for him to arrive.
Ryeowook takes a breath to steel his nerves then heads over to plop himself right next to the other. He doesn't say anything and takes out his own work instead. They don't have to start with the crush thing.
"Ah, my favourite person under 5'2". How do you do?" Hyukjae snarks without pausing his typing.
In response, Ryeowook uses a single finger to tip Hyukjae's notebook onto the ground without remorse.
"Ya!" Hyukjae picks up his notebook and slaps Ryeowook with it.
On the downswing, Ryeowook freezes.
"Oh shit, did I hit you that hard? Sorry, I didn't mean to," Hyukjae hurriedly apologises, but that's not it at all.
Ryeowook had caught a glimpse of the notes hurriedly scrawled across the open book. He would recognise that handwriting anywhere.
"Why don't we get started then," Hyukjae offers uneasily, eyeing how Ryeowook's stance hadn't relaxed yet. "Um, did you bring a copy of one of the notes like we discussed?"
Of course he did. Ryeowook was so excited to be one step closer to identifying the person behind the song lyrics that took up as much space in his brain as his Food Sciences lecture notes, he had brought the whole ass scrapbook with him, eager to show off his favourites to a new and willing audience.
But now, Ryeowook is panicking. He found the object of his affections much sooner than for which he was ready; and said object is sitting right next to him, staring at him expectantly and eager to help.
Not letting himself think it through, Ryeowook rummages through his bag looking for viable scraps of paper. There is no way he is going to hand Hyukjae's own work to him, so he makes do with what he's got.
He bypasses the lyric samples he actually prepared for today's meeting and found ones of his own making which he had intended to recycle weeks ago but never got around to. He silently thanks himself for this terrible habit as he frantically smooths out the small squares of paper before handing them to Hyukjae.
The other raises his eyebrows as he reads through the papers. "Damn, I was hoping that maybe one of these things had even a little similarity to an assignment we've heard so far, but no dice."
Ryeowook nods, affecting understanding disappointment even as he privately rejoices.
"Do you mind if I keep these? I can, like, surreptitiously check people's notebooks during group assignments," he offers with a laugh. "Pearl blue sticky notes can't be that common in a class of 50, right?''
Ryeowook smiles, wide and fake. "Fingers crossed!"
~Even though we're making awkward conversation, it's clear that we're happy to be together.~
Thus proceeds their search for Poem Person. (The gender-neutral nickname Mi had come up with stuck even after Hyukjae revealed those were not actually poems being left behind. Alliterative nicknames are just so catchy.)
"Okay, what if we tie a balloon to your chair and hope Poem Person likes balloons enough to take it with them around campus?" "No way, they won't take it." "How could you possibly be so sure?"
Sometimes, it's Hyukjae coming up with ridiculous plots.
"Trust me. They curl their lowercase L's." "I'm gonna let this go, but I want you to know that makes zero sense."
Plots which Ryeowook foils with equally ridiculous reasoning.
"''We might have never known each other, but we crossed faraway paths and came together. We crossed the distance of a stranger that's farther away than space.' Huh, not bad." "You think so?"
Sometimes, it's Hyukjae asking to read more of the scraps that Ryeowook collects, partially so Hyukjae can make fun of him, but mostly so that he has more clues.
"Yeah. I mean, it doesn't help me at all, but your man's got a way with words. I wonder why he doesn't submit any of the stuff you've shown me for class. It's worth critiquing."
An ask which forces Ryeowook to wrack his brain for passable imitations of song-lyrics-that-could-be-mistakenly-construed-as-poems and to get used to writing with his nondominant hand.
"Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass." "Really? You're passing on Park Hyungsik?"
Today, neither of them are feeling very motivated, so Hyukjae pulls up the Facebook profiles of his classmates and let Ryeowook play smash or pass because "it's fun to hear strangers' opinions on people you know."
"Oh, absolutely. Does that guy look like he cares where he dots his i's and j's? Hard pass," Ryeowook maintains.
Hyukjae shakes his head in amazement as he pulls back his phone. "You'll meet him one day, and you'll regret this moment; mark my words. Hyungsik is universally loved. Honestly, I'm not convinced yet Poem Person isn't him. He fits basically all of your criteria."
Ryeowook has to actively smother a knowing smirk. "What a shame."
He didn't come clean to Hyukjae in the quad that day because he panicked. Ryeowook was not mentally ready to meet the object of his affections so soon, much more confess, so he acted on impulse to buy himself some time.
Once he had it, he got curious.
It's no secret that Ryeowook had built up an idea of what Poem Person is like. The lyrics provided some insight, of course; but most of his intuition came from the handwriting itself. From what he could see, Poem Person was supposed to be intensely passionate, excitingly impulsive, and almost sickeningly romantic.
"Okay, how about this guy?" Hyukjae asks as he passes his phone over again.
Ryeowook takes one look at the screen and snorts. "Very funny. Pass."
The app is opened to a photo of Hyukjae himself posed unnaturally on a couch wearing a forward-facing snapback perched atop his head and an awkward half-smile, and Ryeowook refuses to look at it any longer before he does something he'll regret, like coo affectionately.
"Pass!?" Hyukjae repeats with mock-incredulity. "Don't you think he looks charming and witty and oh-so-loveable?"
Ryeowook indeed had a lot of thoughts about what Poem Person would look like, and 'charming,' 'witty,' and 'oh-so-loveable' have indeed flitted through his mind. Actually, Ryeowook finds that Hyukjae and Poem Person aren't altogether dissimilar.
Hyukjae is passionate about his craft, to be sure, but it doesn't occupy every one of his waking moments like Ryeowook expected. He is as much of a romantic as the next person is, but really Hyukjae is poetic, a distinction Ryeowook learns and appreciates very early on. Hyukjae is a little too thoughtful to be so impulsive, but his quick wit and ability to do/say/become whatever a situation calls for more than fulfill the quota for chaos that underlay Ryeowook's original supposition.
So yes, Ryeowook is withholding the truth so that he can slot the person he made up in his head into the person Hyukjae is, but it's been worth it.
"He looks like a brat and like his feet smell." "YAH! My shoes don't breathe!" "Get better shoes, then." "Give me the money, then." "Get a job, then." "That's not fair! Helping you find Poem Person is basically my part-time job!" "Consider it more of an unpaid internship."
Before Hyukjae takes his turn to volley back, his phone rings in his hand.
"Ah, as much fun as this was, I gotta go. I have a mini-showcase coming up, and I've been slacking on rehearsals." He shakes his phone towards Ryeowook, and the latter could see an alarm screen that reads "get your dumb ass to the gulliver center!"
Ryeowook's heart beats a noticeable thump thump all of a sudden. "Can I come with?"
"S-sure," Hyukjae says, shocked by the offer. "But why?"
That's a great question. For now, he says, "Because your internship is getting in the way of your studies, and I feel bad," but later, he'll know it's because he didn't want his time with Hyukjae to end so soon.
A grateful grin spreads across Hyukjae's face, and Ryeowook will add that onto his list of reasons later as well. "An audience is always welcome."
In no time, Hyukjae is in a practise room in the athletic center stretching his limbs every which way while Ryeowook watches as intently as possible while feigning interest in literally anything else in the room.
The bass-heavy noise music that Hyukjae puts on startles his attention back onto the dancer, and Ryeowook can no longer hide how blatantly he stares.
Hyukjae moves through the choreography so fluidly it almost looks lazy. He goes from jagged angles and harsh lines to sinewy curves and rolling waves to strong stomps and high jumps with no hesitation. He plays with the rhythm of the music, and he makes full use of the space available to him. Ryeowook is barely processing one impressive move when Hyukjae executes another one; and before he knows it, the performance is over.
"So," Hyukjae pants, "what'd ya think?"
"It's…" Jaw-dropping. Powerful. Hot. "… impressive," Ryeowook says at last.
Hyukjae smiles tightly. "Thanks. It actually needs a bit of work for the showcase, but I don't think the routine is all too shabby."
Ryeowook watches as Hyukjae watches himself through the mirror, redoing parts of the choreography over and over again at different tempos just to fine-tune his movements, and he can't help but feel like Hyukjae needed more from him.
"Um, I wonder if maybe it's lacking emotion?"
All movement halts. "What?"
Ryeowook didn't mean to say that; but now that it's out, he finds himself needing to continue. "You move well, um, obviously," he gestures awkwardly to Hyukjae's person, fighting a blush. "It looks physically difficult, sure, but what is it that you're trying to say? Like, I'm guessing you chose that song, too, right? So, why?"
Hyukjae stands in the middle of the room, arms limp by his side, and staring at Ryeowook with an unnervingly blank look on his face. Ryeowook hastily backpedals, "But hey, what do I know? I'm sure your professors will watch you and see all the nuances I can't with my untrained peon eyes. I was just… talking to talk, I guess."
"No, but I think you have a point," Hyukjae interjects.
Ryeowook perks up. "I do?"
"Yeah, like… I was so focused on trying to show what I can do with something only I could do, but that means basically nothing when any one of my classmates could learn my routine with only a week of practise. The only way I would be able to stand out is from whatever I put into it, but you made me realise I didn't put anything into it." He plops on the floor, eyebrows furrowed in consternation.
Ryeowook shakes his head adamantly. "No, no! There's clearly something there! You just need to, like, bring it out more. You have that whole idea—that this is something only you can do. You can take that, morph your routine into a testament to your need to prove yourself. Start with some trepidation, throw some desperation in the middle, and end with triumph. Honestly, I think I saw a little bit of that in your performance already. Maybe it was an accident, but now, just… do it on purpose."
"'Do it on purpose,'" Hyukjae repeats to himself. His head is down, so Ryeowook can't immediately tell what he thinks of the idea. He's ready to apologise again, even offer to go home so that Hyukjae can concentrate better, but then Hyukjae raises his head. "Alright, let me give that a try."
His eyes are filled with will and determination. Ryeowook, of all people, put those there.
He sits back and watches Hyukjae rehearse his routine over and over again, getting better and more evocative each time.
The Hyukjae before him is not a Hyukjae Ryeowook would have been able to guess based on his handwriting and lyrics alone.
Ryeowook knows basically nothing about dancing; but over the past few weeks, he's really come to know Hyukjae. He's noticed how the other is prone to express himself through movement, like when he accentuates his stories with body language and physical reenactments. It belies a comfort and confidence with his body and what it can do with which Ryeowook could never empathise. It's a subtle thing, but impactful nevertheless.
He smothers it down because he doesn't want to give Hyukjae the wrong idea, but he wants to laugh.
Only he could fall for a dancer's words first before anything else, and only he could fall for the same person twice.
~Where should I start? When should I say it? Darling, our seconds, our minutes together were beautiful.~
"Ryeowook, why haven't you asked to see my handwriting yet?"
"What?"
They had commandeered a study room in the library, but honestly neither of them are making a lot of headway in their respective assignments. Ryeowook didn't want anything to do with Organic Chemistry, but this conversation is making him reconsider his previous stance.
"Isn't that what you're into? Trying to infer people's personalities based on their handwriting?"
"I'm not into it. It just happened."
"Okay, sure, but aren't you, like, good at it now? Read mine! Tell me what it says about me."
Ryeowook, desperate to squash this idea immediately, blurts out. "It… It won't work!"
"Why not?" Hyukjae pouts.
Ryeowook scrambles. "Because I know you already. Yeah. I'll see and interpret things in a way that confirms what I already know."
Hyukjae eyebrows furrow in what Ryeowook can presume is consternation. "Sorry," he offers feebly.
Some more time passes, and Ryeowook makes mild progress on his O-Chem work, before Hyukjae speaks up again. "So if you can't do me, can you do my friend?" he asks with an excited tone that makes Ryeowook wary.
"I do not want to do your friend." You, however…
"NO! I mean: can you interpret my friend's handwriting? Here. He left it at my place last time we studied together."
Hyukjae's smirk radiates smug self-satisfaction, and with one look at the paper, Ryeowook understands why. He actively controls every muscle in his body to prevent the facepalm that's threatening to break loose.
He has to give Hyukjae props, though. If Ryeowook weren't already so intimately acquainted with the handwriting on the page before him, the other's ploy could have worked.
Regardless, he still finds himself in the position he was trying to avoid in the first place.
All the best lies are based in truth, right? "So I can tell your friend has a very high-stress major. The handwriting is cramped and small, like he can't waste a single stroke or else he'll miss something he needs to write down. Ah, see how he doesn't fully cross his t's and dot his i's? He thinks he'll be able to read his own handwriting later. He probably has decent memory or just has a lot of faith in himself."
Hyukjae nods with an impressed frown. "Huh, not bad."
It would be so, so easy to stop there, but Ryeowook can't. He loves Hyukjae's handwriting too much. "And look here," he points excitedly to a cross-out near the center of the page. "He could cross out his mistakes with a single line or a little squiggle, but he completely blocks it out instead. It suggests he has more confidence with the obvious; but really, I think he needs the reminder. Like, 'Yeah, I made a mistake. I'll move on, but I won't let myself forget. That way I don't do it again.'"
A moment later, Ryeowook realises with a jolt that he had been holding and smiling at the scrap paper a little too tenderly. He whips his head up in embarrassment, an explanation-slash-apology at the tip of his tongue, but Hyukjae doesn't seem to notice.
In fact, Hyukjae has been silent the whole time. Ryeowook chuckles awkwardly. "Am I right?"
"Huh?" Hyukjae intones as he's brought out of his reverie. Ryeowook thinks he sees something in his eyes when their gazes meet, but Hyukjae blinks and it's gone. "I'm sorry, what did you ask me?"
"I was wondering if I was right. About your 'friend,'" Ryeowook reminds, air quotes clear in his tone.
Hyukjae shuffles uncomfortably in his seat. "I think you're more right than even he's ready to admit," he says with a hand at the back of his neck and a sardonic quirk of his lips.
The sight causes an unexplainable swell of affection within Ryeowook, and he turns away. "He can take his time," he assures, eyes trained on his textbook even though he can't read a damn thing.
Hyukjae nods his thanks and turns back to his homework, but Ryeowook doesn't feel right letting it end here.
"Hey, wanna give my handwriting a try?"
~You always lift your head to look up at me. I want to take my big hands and cup your small cheeks.~
Next time they're meant to hang out, it's the weekend; and Hyukjae texts him to meet him at Bomnal.
"Both of us were here just two days ago, and we have to be here again in two days. Don't we spend enough time in Bomnal as it is?" Ryeowook complains as soon as he enters the atrium of the academic building.
"Think of it like a field trip. Come on, Wook," Hyukjae says as he leads them to the second floor lecture hall.
"Pretty sure field trips are meant to take us out of the classroom, but sure, whatever," Ryeowook grumbles as he follows along.
He's testy. He knows it, but he can't help it.
This is the first time both of them will be in Bomnal 235 at once. It feels like a turning point, like he's going to learn something today whether he wants to or not. He wonders if Hyukjae feels the same sense of impending that he does, or maybe it's just worse for him because he's in love.
As soon as they open the doors, the automatic lights flick on and douse the room with a very awake yellow.
"So… where do you normally sit?" Hyukjae asks as he motions to the empty seats before them.
Ryeowook freezes. Now that it's upon him, he can definitively identify this as the thing he was anxious about.
What if he tells the truth, Hyukjae realises Poem Person is him, and he feels awkward about it? Their comfortable but still-very-new friendship would evaporate on the spot, and Ryeowook won't have him in any capacity, much more a romantic one.
So, in another impeccable display of judgement, he decides to lie again.
"Oh, you know… I change it up," he mildly comments as he moves to somewhere near the middle of the first row. He sits down and gives an unassuming grin to his friend, who makes a face. "You're one of those people? Haven't you heard of the same seats code of conduct? You fed me some crap about curling L's when really it's your fault the balloon trick wouldn't have worked," Hyukjae jokes in that way where he's completely serious but is phrasing it with humour.
Ryeowook feels a genuine, fond grin spread across his face before he can help it, and he quickly ducks his head. "Why are we here, again?" he asks instead of dwelling on the validating comfort of being known.
"Why not?" Hyukjae asks as he moves to sit down. "This is the place it all began, right? Might as well."
Ryeowook, for his part, only stares.
Hyukjae went up to a seat in the rear right quadrant of the lecture hall. Ryeowok's own, real seat is directly in front of where the other is sitting. That can't be a coincidence.
"Um, I'm guessing that's where you sit?" he asks as casually as possible.
"Huh? Oh! Haha, yeah. It's funny, I didn't even think of sitting anywhere else. My feet just automatically guided me here."
"So funny," Ryeowook squeaks out.
"Yeah, my friend in the class actually used to sit with me, but it became very apparent very quickly that we would never get anything done if we did, so he moved down there." Hyukjae points with his foot to Ryeowook's seat, and Ryeowook's breath hitches in his throat. "Sometimes when I'm bored, I just can't help but throw stuff onto his desk just to annoy him." Hyukjae mimes a free throw shot towards the desk and smiles.
Well, if there were any doubt before in Ryeowook's mind that Hyukjae was Poem Person, it has summarily been erased.
Ryeowook hums but says nothing else, letting a companionable silence stretch between them as he acknowledges the warmth that settles into his chest when he confirms with himself that yes, he is glad that Hyukjae is Poem Person.
"Why are you helping me?" he asks, curious and without judgement. The abrupt question startles the other out of whatever reverie he had settled into during their respite, but Hyukjae bounces back quickly, as he always does.
"You know, I had to figure that answer out myself," Hyukjae answers with a laugh. He leans back in his chair with his hands folded behind his head, staring out at the empty lecture hall. "I told you I would at first because it was obvious that I was the only one in a position to actually help. It wasn't even an option in my mind that I wouldn't… But even after my sense of obligation ran out, I wanted to keep going.
"You're cool, Ryeowook. You're fun to be around, you're sassy, you're down to try anything once. You're totally comfortable being yourself, and your 'self' is crazy. Like, who else trusts in their gut enough that this person you're chasing after is worth the effort? Who else would go to the lengths to which you're willing to go just to meet him? Honestly, I think that's pretty awesome. I don't know if I could have that same confidence you do."
He tilts his head towards Ryeowook then and gives a close-lipped, self-convinced smile. "If anyone's gonna find love based on a few scraps of paper and a dream, it's gonna be you."
Ryeowook nods mutely. He hopes the distance between them is enough to disguise the blush on his cheeks.
Hyukjae faces forward again. "If I think about it, I guess I'm being selfish, too. I want to believe a love like that is possible; and if I help you find him, I'll get to see it happen for myself… I really hope this guy is worth it, Ryeowook. I think it would break my heart as much as yours if he weren't."
He is, though. He's so worth it. "Me too."
~Longing is a beautiful pain I thought I could endure.~
Ryeowook walks out of the campus mail room, and life couldn't get better.
He just picked up a care package his mom sent him; he got a 94 on his last Nutrition Essentials quiz; and Hyukjae loves the new low-fat, protein-enhanced strawberry scones recipe he tried out yesterday.
Speaking of whom, he thinks this whole Poem Person plot is going to wrap up soon. The last time they must have actually worked on a strategy to find out who Poem Person was, like, two weeks ago at least; and Ryeowook's glad he can stop pretending he has any interest anymore.
Their friendship has wholly evolved beyond the point of needing a project to work on in order to spend time with each other anyway. Why pine after a fictitious man when he has a whole Hyukjae right there, who buys him coffee lattes simply because he's Hyukjae's dongsaeng and who helps him study for his quizzes even when Hyukjae himself is stressed.
Ryeowook tells himself that with some more time, the whole mystery will just fade into an inside joke between the two of them, a white whale they can reminisce about when they're sipping soju and reminiscing… preferably cuddled on a couch and with his head on Hyukaje's shoulder.
However, his friend group did not get the memo.
"So, uh. What happened to Poem Person?" Henry asks one weekend while everyone is at Ryeo-Mi's apartment.
"Shut up!" Kyuhyun admonishes with a slap to the back of Henry's head. "Ryeowook hasn't annoyed us with that in weeks. Aren't you grateful?!"
"I actually am very curious about what happened there. Weren't you and Hyukjae supposed to find him together?" Yesung asks.
"The gen—" "Maybe I'm manifesting, Mi! Ever think of that?"
Ryeowook cuts in before Mi's feelings get even more hurt. "Yeah, we were, but honestly I've kinda given up on the whole thing."
He expects some shock, but he couldn't have predicted who would be the most affected. "You're just gonna give up on finding love!?" Mi despairs.
"Actually, the potential for a romantic relationship was never confirmed," Henry quips. Yesung gives Henry a high-five.
"It was just a little crush," Ryeowook defends. "I've moved past it, as I was bound to do eventually." He says this last part to Kyuhyun, who he knows was the most annoyed with his actions back then.
"'Eventually' doesn't end in time for finals week, Wook," Kyuhyun retorts.
"Well, now you never have to worry about it, Hyun."
"Is love dead?" Mi desponds aloud, but no one pays him any mind.
Ryeowook pats his roommate's shoulders in a half-hearted attempt at consolation. If Mi turns out to be the only casualty in this whole ordeal, Ryeowook will count this as a win.
What he doesn't count on is the fact that Hyukjae would invariably hear about it.
"Is it true?" Hyukjae corners him after Ryeowook picks up his order from the on-campus cafe.
"You know, I don't think so. I think she's just Henry's accompanist for rehearsals," Ryeowook responds genuinely, certain that the latest gossip about Henry's potentially secret girlfriend is what Hyukjae must have been referring to.
"What? No!" Hyukjae stops in confusion but stomps after Ryeowook once he gets his bearings back. "No, I heard that you gave up on finding him, that you gave up a while ago. Is it true?"
Ryeowook hesitates to sit down at the open table he found, and Hyukjae's entire posture seizes in betrayal. "Alright, got it," Hyukjae says with an edge to his tone. "Do me a favour, yeah? Never talk to me ever again."
"Wait!" Ryeowook calls once Hyukjae turns on his heel and storms off. "Hyukjae, wait!" He pays no mind to the fact that he's abandoning his belongings as he chases Hyukjae outside. "I get that you're angry, but don't you think this is a little much?"
He reaches out for Hyukjae's upper arm, but the other immediately shrugs it off. Ryeowook flinches and retreats slightly. Despite the other's obvious fury, Hyukjae is stopped in place and seems willing to actually talk to him, and Ryeowook holds onto that hope instead.
"No, actually," Hyukjae sneers. "I think this is the perfect amount of much when you find out your best friend has been wasting your time for who knows how long!"
Of all the things Hyukjae could have said in that moment, Ryeowook didn't expect that reaction at all. It stings more than he expects, cuts through his defensiveness; and despite his position in the situation, he can't help but need comfort. "What do you mean?" he asks in a confused, desperate voice.
"What do I mean?" Hyukjae repeats exasperatedly. "Ryeowook, we spent weeks together trying to figure out how to get you your dream guy! We never even got anywhere, and, and… And it's all because of you! You shot down basically every one of my ideas practically from the beginning, even after I told you how much it would personally mean to me. That is, like, the textbook definition of a waste of time!"
"You weren't having fun?"
"What?" Hyukjae demands incredulously.
"All that time we spent together," Ryeowook clarifies as he steadfastly meets Hyukjae's angry gaze. "You didn't have fun?"
Hyukjae is silent, and his body posture screams obstinate defiance, but his eyes remain trained on Ryeowook.
"You didn't come to look forward to spending time with me? You didn't spend your free time thinking of ways to make me laugh?"
Hyukjae rolls his eyes. "So what? What does any of that mean when you were just stringing me along? You… you weren't even using me!?" he exclaims, voice rising in a hysterical question. "That was literally the whole basis of our friendship, and you couldn't even do that? Like, what could you have possibly gained from lying to my face like that for all this time?"
Ryeowook gives a watery smile at the non-answer and looks down at his fingers fidgeting together. "I did, too," he says in a voice so quiet it was like he intended to keep that to himself.
It's silent for a long time after that admission. Hyukjae's lividness has dissipated, and he is only left with a disappointment so painful he doesn't want to dwell on it any further. He moves to leave Ryeowook alone outside of the cafe, but Ryeowook's voice stops him.
"W-What did you say?" Hyukjae asks with apprehension.
Ryeowook ignores the tears falling from his eyes as he repeats himself. "I'm in a rush to catch you, but you're in a hurry to leave. Should I just surrender? Now we're like an old and worn notebook filled with scribbles."
Hyukjae simply stares, and Ryeowook takes that as his cue to keep going. "Take your beautiful smile with you. Don't leave it here. You saw me with tears in my eyes."
By heart,
"I was a selfish man, but my life is divided into before and after I knew you."
Ryeowook recites lyric,
"When I first saw you, it felt like a miracle."
after lyric,
"I'm thinking of you more today. I wonder how tomorrow morning will be. Will I miss you more than I do today?"
after lyric;
"I'm honest because I don't know lies before love."
and before he knows it,
"I'd place my feelings on the thawing snow. I'd hang my wish on a disappearing star, but only if you ask me to."
Hyukjae is within arm's reach.
"It's me?" Hyukjae whispers into the scant centimetres between them. "It's really me?" he asks again when Ryeowook had simply nodded.
Ryeowook can't even help it when he recites, "Even when you ask me again, for me, it's only you." with a breathy laugh as he shyly looks away.
Hyukjae moves to gently hold Ryeowook's hand. "And you're okay with that?"
Ryeowook wants to laugh and melt and cry and run away, but instead he settles for an earnest nod and a hesitant smile. "Are you?"
Hyukjae answers him with a kiss, and it feels like a dazzling melody.
Danger (Part 2)
WORDS: 1,305 (three more words than part 1)
WARNINGS: Mentions of explosions/weapons/evil plans basically
PART 1 HERE
Only one more part to go also Flim actually shows up this time. aka self ship time and lots of Darkwing VS Negaduck moments. reblogs very appreciated <3
————
     It never was as easy as it seemed for the Fearsome Five to succeed, and the fifth and most powerful member knew this well. Still didn't mean he was happy when they failed.
     "Curse those ingrates," Negaduck grumbled once his feet were firmly on the ground. Having landed his strangely designed aircraft on the convention center roof, he could now go downstairs and blend into the crowds. This was no trouble for an expert criminal like himself, but the clock was ticking. How long did he have? Less than twenty-five minutes. Why did he come here at all? None of your concern.
     Marching  grumpily down the stairwell, he only almost tripped on his cape once. Okay, maybe twice. It was a small price to pay for fashion...But hey, his hat blocked the glare of the sun on morning drives nicely. And possibly his line of sight in general. Ah, wait, there was a more serious matter here! There were a stupid amount of bombs about to go off, and likely at least a hundred people in this convention.
     Er, not that he, Negaduck, gave a flying duck about the majority of those people but...There was just one he wanted to - uh, help? Was that the word? Rescue? No, not something so dramatic...Who did he think he was acting like right now? A hero? He shivered at the thought, reaching the convention area. Seriously, the only thing that could make this whole situation worse would be someone mistaking him for the sickeningly heroic counterpart of his known as -
     "DARKWING DUCK!"
     He jolted, spinning on his heel. Had someone...? No, no, it was okay. Nobody saw him...Oh, but Darkwing Duck WAS over there. Negaduck slipped into the crowds, watching his goody-two-shoes version standing at a PODIUM of all things. What an egotistical...Negaduck paused.
     Ah, this might just be the opportunity he needed.
     "...and so, fair citizens of St. Canard," Darkwing was saying, his voice echoing into the mic, "Along with buying some priceless art from the booths here, you can rest easy at night in your beds, knowing that the terror that flaps in the night will in fact, be always vigilant. Always alert!..."
     "Always late to the party." In a moment's notice, Negaduck yanked the mic from Darkwing and pushed him to the ground.  The people of the convention gasped.
    "W-w-wha - NEGADUCK?!" Darkwing's eyes were wide, then narrowed as he jumped to his webbed feet, "I-I mean, of course! Y-you were always there, this whole time, you were-"
     "Actually just got here." Negaduck looked at the crowd, gripping the microphone. "Attention, St. Canard! This entire Southern section of the city has been rigged with bombs by yours truly, Negaduck."
      At this declaration, there were gasps and murmuring amount the crowd. Fearful ones that would normally fill Negaduck with delight, and admittedly still sorta did. But right now, his eyes seemed to survey the group of people as if seeking a particular person...
     But he wouldn't find the person before a fist came flying at his face from the side and he was knocked off the podium. People around began to scatter.
     "I should've known you'd show your unsightly, unappealing mug, Negaduck!" exclaimed Darkwing Duck, lifting the other by his collar and pulling him in close and personal. "What's on your awful agenda this time?!"
      "...I just told you."
      Darkwing stared blankly. Negaduck sighed. "I was GOING to send you a message, but you know...Destroying this stupid convention might not be so bad if it gets rid of you too." He gave a sharp smirk. "According to my calculations, you have fifteen minutes to evacuate this half of your precious St. Canard before some very innocent people get hurt."
      Technically, he had nineteen, but Negaduck liked to round time limits down.  Regardless of the specifics, you could see Darkwing's color drain from his face.        "H-h-half - half the city?!"
     "...You really weren't listening, were you."
    "Y-you'll never get away with it!...What kind of evil has possessed you?!"      "A fearsome evil.Now let GO!" Smacking foreheads with Darkwing, Negaduck broke free and ran for it. He didn't look back. Didn't have the seconds to spare. Unfortunately, the dunce would soon be hot on his trail. Years of slapstick comedy hardened a man...or duck.
     "C-come b-b-back and fight, you coward!"
     "Sorry, you purple annoyance, but I've got bigger matters to attend to. Like not getting blasted to smithereens!"
      As he turned a corner, he reached into his coat and pulled out a mysteriously hidden grappling hook and fired up at the ceiling. On his way up, he knocked over a display of free paint samples - spilling them in time for Darkwing to slip and slide his way into several OTHER displays.
       "LOSER!" shouted Negaduck, only to...well, how to say this delicately? He smashed into the ceiling because he was not paying attention. On his way down, he only felt a little bit of shame and a lot of pain.  And when he smacked into the ground, well we can assume it hurt his pride (and his body) even more.
      He groaned and struggled to his hands and knees...Could this possibly get any -
       "...Negsy?"
      His eyes shot open. That voice...He looked up to see a pink flamingo in front of him.
        "Um...W-what are you d-doing here?"
       Negaduck's hands trembled on the ground for a moment, before he used them to push to his feet - clumsily. "Well, fancy meeting you here, little dove...." He grinned, though, and seized the bird's wrist. "Good thing."
      "W-wha- wait...! W-where are we - ?"
      "Unhand that civilian, you sneaky scoundrel!" Ah, a paint-splattered Darkwing Duck had made his way over. Negaduck groaned loudly, released his captive, and reached into his coat again - this time pulling out...Something that really shouldn't have fit into his coat -
     WHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
      And just like that, there was two ducks in combat. Okay, actually Negaduck was just swinging his chainsaw, and Darkwing was dodging for his life.      "W-woah, woah! Can't we - can't we talk this out?!"
    "I Don't. Have. Time. For. THIS!" Negaduck swung with each word. At long last, Darkwing lost his footing, and Negaduck seized his throat...
    "N-Negsy!" A pink hand had grabbed onto Negaduck's cape. "St-stop it!"
      It was the Flamingo.
     "....N-Negsy?"  Darkwing choked out, and dropped limp to the floor as Negaduck released him, gasping for air. "W-wh-"
     "Flim- "
    "W-what are you doing here, Negsy?" Flim gripped his cape tighter. "You kn-know I have a panel here, and..." She blinked. "Oh my gosh, is - is this why the convention was in a panic?"
     "Smart, aren'tcha...This place is going to be going sky-high within - oh, I dunno - ten minutes."
     "W-what?! Why would you -?"
      "It wasn't me, it was the incompetent lot that works for me." He put the chainsaw over his shoulder, "If that's all your questions, then can we PLEASE get out of here?"
     "W-we should evacuate people first..." Flim shook their head. "I-I'm not leaving if other people aren't!"
     "Oh, how sweet and noble of you." Negaduck gagged, grabbing her hand again. He began to pull her along. "Leave the extras to Deadwing here."
       "D-don't call him names, Negsy..." To be fair, Darkwing was looking pretty dead on the floor there. Still, Flim tried to pull free again. "H-he's hurt, thanks t-to you! Just help him evacuate people..."
       Negaduck looked increasingly irritated, and glared at Flim....But in a few moments, his expression became...Softer? Less angry, at least. He averted his eyes.
       "....Fine, little dove. I'll play your evacuation game. But then you're coming with me."
     "D-deal!"
    "W-w-wait! No deal, no -no deal!" Darkwing cried, butting in between them and physically pushing them apart, "Y-you can't just agree to be a HOSTAGE!"
     "U-um, Mr. Darkwing -" Flim began, but Negaduck bopped Darkwing on the head with the blunt of his chainsaw, and the hero fell limp once again.
     This was gonna be a long ten minutes.
Note
hiii brownie idk enough abt yugioh but *insert one of ur yugioh faves* and umm maybe franziska for that character ask game :]
Franziska Von Karma
How I feel about this character- FRANZISKA LITERALLY SO AMAZING...I love how she’s introduced as just as terrifying and cruel as her father, but then you see that she really does care about helping other people throughout her determination to avenge Edgeworth and to help Phoenix save Maya in Farewell My Turnabout despite taking a bullet to the shoulder (such a good parallel with her father on its own!)... and then with the scene at the airport she’s is allowed to be emotionally vulnerable without being any less of a competent prodigy of law! She’s just... so fucking cool I LOVE HER!
All the people I ship romantically with this character- Maya Fey! I love the contrast between both of their personalities making them seem like total opposites, but when you look at their connection to a family legacy it becomes obvious they have a lot in common. I wish the games had expanded on their dynamic more, but unfortunately lesbians are oppressed :(
My non-romantic OTP for this character- VON KARMA SIBLINGS... Mieke I know you agree with me on this! They grew up with the same terrible expectation that come with being a prodigy, and so they’re really the only ones who’s can comfort and understand each other... they obviously both feel such an obligation to protect each other and it makes me so CRAZY UGH. BROTHER AND SISTER!
My unpopular opinion about this character- I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion but I wish she’d kept the shorter hair design from the concept art where her hair is slicked forward to contrast with her father’s slicked back hair, not only because I’m a lesbian and that hairstyle was SO GAY but because I think it could have highlighted or even foreshadowed how she differs from Manfred. Maybe since she hasn’t been able to abandon his influences by Justice for All it wouldn’t make since for her to have such a “wild” hairstyle, but I think that if she returns it would be amazing to see her with that hairstyle to represent how she’s moved on after a decade.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon- SHOW HER DENOUNCING MANFRED VON KARMA FOR REAL. I can understand that it would take time for her to fully accept that her father was not as admirable as she’d been least to believe, but by this point in the timeline I think it’s time for that aspect of her character arc to be resolved. The natural conclusion of her development requires her experiencing the same acceptance of defeat as her brother, so I really hope that if they bring Franziska back at some point she’ll be allowed to admit that her father was awful and that victory isn’t an indication of worth.
Rex Raptor
How I feel about this character- HE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN ANY PIECE OF MEDIA EVER. I know that he isn’t meant to be a deep character at all and he isn’t given much narrative focus at all but he is just SO DAMN ENDEARING TO ME OKAY. I have an unhealthy obsession with how he is initially introduced as being crass and inconsiderate while Weevil is more polite and strategic, but then it turns out Weevil is a total asshole while Rex is just... a kid who likes dinosaurs and duels for fun? Like even though he’s a total dumbass (the best character trait) who can be a bit rude (not even mean-spirited if we’re being totally honest, like most of his remarks are just him being snarky), the manga describes him as “having to the spirit of a true duelist” and he never really seems as bitter about losing as his counterpart Weevil (except in the Season 4 filler arc, which although I adore for giving me so much more Rex content, makes a lot mistakes by characterizing him as basically interchangeable with Weevil... BUT that’s ANOTHER STORY for ANOTHER DAY). I mean he has more justifiable reasons to be upset than Weevil given how he was LITERALLY cheated out of the Battle City tournaments by Espa (which Mokuba the official rule enforcer LETS THEM GET AWAY WITH and then doesn’t do ANYTHING to compensate Rex), and he STILL tries to warn Joey to stay away from trouble despite him being the guy he supposedly dislikes because he took his best card, totally disgracing him and ruining his entire career. I could keep going but this paragraph isn’t probably already sickeningly long and I still need to be able to make posts about him in the future, so in a nutshell... he seems like a funny and good kid. OH AND WHEN MAI ASKED HIM THE “what can you see but cannot see” RIDDLE AND HE ANSWERED TAKOYAKI BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE THE DOUGH ON THE OUTSIDE BUT NOT THE OCTOPUS ON THE INSIDE? LITERAL CUTEST SHIT EVER KING OF COMEDY I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU. Ahem. Sorry.
All the people I ship romantically with this character- Weevil Underwood. They’re both teenagers who got famous, let it get to their heads, and then lost everything... considering that they seem like the types of kids who would be bullied relentlessly (they're already constantly being made fun of by mostly of the character anyway), I think the fact that they end up befriending each other is a good sign that they can find some comfort in each other and discover other things to be fulfilled by beside card games. I love how even though this friendship is framed as a begrudging alliance between two self-servings jerks half of the time, the other half of the time it’s about best friends starting a shit together for petty reasons and always being by each other’s side no matter what. The way that they tease each other constantly but then always stand up for one another when others pick on them... it’s so obvious that they actually really care about one another! I just love their dynamic so much it’s unreal, hence the blog.
My non-romantic OTP for this character- Although I primarily think about his relationship with Weevil, there is still a lot of potential to be explored with other characters! Mako is another minor character obsessed with a type of animal, but where’s he differs from Rex and ESPECIALLY Weevil is his sportsmanship, being able to become friends with Yugi and Joey even after being defeated by them. I think that difference mostly comes down to Mako being significantly older than Red and Weevil and therefore having more perspective on gaming fame, so I feel like he would be a great influence on them. On Rex specifically, I think Season 4 missed a big opportunity to expand on Rex and Mai’s relationship. Mai had been a major contributor to Rex losing in Duelist Kingdom, but now they both feel like washed-up failures. I think given the circumstances they could have comeback to an understanding, maybe even have Mai apologize for throwing him under the bus to screw with Joey? I think showing Rex that not everyone who has wronged him in the past had/still has bad intentions would be really good addition to his character arc in Season 4. Then of course there is Joey... to me, the main difference between Rex and Joey is that Joey is stupidly lucky while Rex never seems to catch a break. Otherwise they’re both recklessness dumbasses who prioritize brawn over brain, but Joey is nevertheless able to triumph through sheer dumb luck while Rex gets anihilated over and over with basically the same strategy (minus the RNG cards, Joey’s strategy is just big monsters after all). While the previously mentions she relationships were hypothetical, this dynamic between Joey and Rex is actually given some focus in canon, and I found it very compelling! I only wish this difference between them hadn't only been used to increase Joey’s confidence in his skills as a duelist (which I will remind you is mostly LUCK, no offense to Joey because I do love him BUT I MEAN... only being able to beat Rex because of a lucky Time Wizard isn’t peak strategy ), but to develop Rex’s character somehow as well.
My unpopular opinion about this character- JUST LIKING THIS CHARACTER IS AN UNPOPULAR OPINION MAN... tons of people hate him so much! I know he isn’t an important character at all but he isn’t nearly as much of a jerk as people make him out to be, and I mean even if he was he’s just a kid! I won’t pretend that he is always portrayed favorably by the narrative, but the fact that some people feel nothing but disdain for a child whose accomplishments were robbed from him by forces outside of his control and who received no sympathy for it, causing his self-worth to deteriorate... it’s a bit concerning to me that so many adults in particular are so disgusted by that.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon- I’ve talked QUITE a lot already about things that I wish had happened to develop his character more, but above all else I wish his character arc in Season 4 had been given a proper conclusion. The writers set up this interesting conflict where the insignificant minor characters are upset that they aren’t allowed to be successful when the more important characters aren’t involved and shows the consequences that their defeat had on their lives and self-image... BUT THEN AFTER THEY’RE DEFEATED THEY ARE FORGOTTEN ABOUT FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON UNTIL THEY WAKE UP IN THE HOSPITAL AND INSTANTLY REVERT BACK TO BEING COMIC RELIEF GRRR GRRRRRRRR! There wasn’t no resolution to this arc AT ALL and it drives me UP THE GODDAMN WALL because it absolutely captivated me in concept... but like with many things in Yu-Gi-Oh! the execution was totally ruined :(
Chapter One | Chapter Two
(This long af note is a one time thing) This story stemmed from this one, but you don’t need to read it in order to understand. Like 4 people expressed they liked the idea, one asked for a continuation and another asked to be tagged in future things with it. So! I will gladly write another story for these wonderful people!
Overall Story Warnings : Sympathetic Deceit, Sympathetic Remus, Abuse, Abusive/Unsympathetic/Villain Patton, Manipulation
Pairings : Dukeceit(though it’s not a main theme), other ships TBD
Chapter Specific Warnings : Minor physical harm(hand/wrist injury), please tell me if I need to add something else!
————————
Remus bit into his deodorant, flopping backwards on the ceiling above his fellow dark side. The Duke was smiling wide, more cheerful than he normally was. Because Deceit was finally letting Remus reveal himself to Thomas. Finally play a role in their host’s personality and mind, rather than staying within the subconscious forever.
“So, I can hit Roman in the head with my morning star, right? I want my entrance to be dramatic! That’ll definitely gain their attention!”
Deceit rolled his eyes fondly, finally looking up from his phone. “Yes, Remus. You can. Just don’t kill him though, okay? Thomas needs both sides of Creativity, not just part of it.”
Remus narrowed his eyes slightly. “So you do want me to kill my brother?”
Deceit groaned slightly, and Remus grinned down at him. “Only kidding! Dee, I’d never actually kill him. We’re family, I wouldn’t stoop that low.”
The half-snake raised an eyebrow, giving the rambunctious side a skeptical look. Remus huffed, crossing his arms. “What? You don’t trust me to hold my word?”
Deceit laughed lightly, getting to his feet and pulling Remus off the ceiling. “I don’t believe you. Now don’t go and wreak havoc my dear.”
Remus’ eyes lit up before he sunk out, pratically bouncing. And Deceit hoped he’d be alright, considering the core four weren’t the nicest.
He shook his head. Remus could handle himself. He’d be fine.
-
At dinner, Remus excitedly recapped the video for Deceit. They both knew that some parts were exaggerated, and Remus made a point to add in his own narration. And Remus loved bursting out into song again, clearly proud of what he had created. And Deceit watched him fondly, because it had gone well for the most part.
But something felt off to Deceit, and although he decided against mentioning it to ruin Remus’ spirits, Remus could feel it too. He had chosen to ignore it, whereas Deceit pushed the feeling to the side for now. He could deal with it later. At the moment, Deceit just wanted to listen to Remus exclaim about how “mean” Logan was.
And before Remus went off to his room, he looked at Deceit, smile smaller than earlier. “Hey Dee?”
Deceit looked away from the television, tilting his head. “Yes Love?”
Remus’ cheeks turned pink at the name, but he made no protests to it. Instead, he asked what had been on his mind all night. “Am I… Am I scary? Or evil?”
Deceit’s eyes widened, anger flashing across his face. But the expression was gone almost immediately. “Remus, you’re far from scary, and you said it yourself. Good and bad is all made up nonsense. You’re unique, and you have, although sometimes disturbing, a very creative mind.”
Remus swallowed slightly, nervously. “If I may ask, who made you start thinking that you were scary?” Deceit’s question made Remus hug himself nervously. He heard the slight edge in Deceit’s voice, the one that appeared whenever someone close to him might’ve been hurt.
“No reason! Just something that came to mind earlier!” They both knew he was lying. But before Deceit could point that out, Remus blew him a kiss before dashing off to his room, door slamming behind him.
Deceit frowned, staring at where Remus had just stood. Because Remus has no filter. At all. And he never lied.
He tapped the couch slightly, glaring at the television for a moment before getting to his feet and sinking out. He needed to have a word with the light sides.
When he popped into the light sides’ common area, he was pleased to find them all lounging about within the living room. Patton was the first to notice Deceit, and his smile quickly faded mid conversation with Roman, only to be replaced by a sickeningly fake one.
“Deceit, I didn’t expect to see you today! What brings you to the light commons?” Patton’s cheery tone sounded forced, and it showed in his eyes. Deceit merely raised a brow and crossed his arms, the others turning their gazes to the intruder upon their little family night.
He cleared his throat slightly. “Which one of you made Remus believe he was scary and or evil?”
There was no use in lying. But, he also had a vague idea. Considering a certain moral side suddenly began to look a bit guilty.
Silence followed Deceit’s question. “Well?”
He sounded irritated, and his voice became sharper than normal.
“I’m sorry Deceit, but I don’t really think we understand-!”
“I believe the answer to the question would be Thomas himself, but because of overreaction to his presence, Patton and Virgil played a role.” Logan returned his eyes to his book, and Deceit looked between the two mentioned sides.
“Logan! What do you mean Virgil and I played a role?” Patton sounded confused, but the slight glare he shot the logical side said that he knew exactly what Logan was speaking of.
Before Logan could answer, Roman spoke up. “Well you both were adamant on Thomas not knowing Remus was revealing himself, and since you’re his feelings Patton, and Virgil is literally anxiety, you both played a role in Thomas saying Remus is scary.”
Roman looked towards Deceit. “So, why all of the sudden did you want to know? Figured you’d expect this reaction after letting Remus out.”
Deceit huffed lightly. “I didn’t figure a bit of chaos, yes, but I did expect Remus to lie when he said it was just a thought he had.”
“Wait, Remus lied?” Virgil finally contributed to the conversation. “Maybe I… Maybe I should go check on him? Apologize or something?”
Deceit waved his hand slightly. “By all means, he might open up-”
“Virgil, what if he hurts you though?” Patton squeaked out, it was as if he wasn’t expecting Virgil to volunteer. “And how can we trust Deceit? He lies all the time. Maybe he’s just lying so he can take you back to the Dark Sides!”
“I’m not- I’m standing right here.” Deceit hissed out.
Virgil slowly leaned back into the couch though, looking at Deceit in uncertainty. “I…”
“Exactly! How about we just leave Remus be, I’m sure he’ll be his… normal… self in the morning.”
Deceit looked between Roman and Logan to see their reactions to this. Surly they noticed how hard Patton was trying to keep Virgil from checking on half of Creativity. But they had both turned back to what they were doing. Of course.
Deceit rolled his eyes before sinking out again.
Except, he wasn’t in his room when he appeared again. The room he was in was far too bright and crowded to be his own, everything had a list surrounding it. Deceit recognized it as Patton’s room, it had to be it, because aside from the decor, he could feel his emotions get stronger.
Moments later, Patton rose up- or rather, appeared, much like Deceit did. And Deceit suddenly felt that wave of caution and that sick feeling you get when you know something is off but you can’t tell what it is.
“What the hell are you doing?” Deceit snapped, taking a step back as Patton started to approach him. “Why did you summon me to your room.”
Patton was too close for Deceit’s comfort, and Deceit was trapped between him and a wall. Patton placed a hand on Deceit’s exposed arm, and Deceit regretted not wearing his usual outfit.
Patton’s fingers were cold, and he spoke in an equally cold tone. “Don’t–” he started to dig his nails into Deceit’s flesh, breaking the skin efficiently, “–try to get any of them to even visit your domain.”
Deceit reached over to grab Patton’s wrist, to shove the moral side away, but Patton grabbed his hand and twisted it until he heard a slight pop, and pain shot through Deceit’s hand then up his arm as he cried out slightly.
“And don’t try to do that, either. Ever again. Or worse will happen, understood?”
Deceit glared at Patton, though Patton appeared blurry as his eyes watered. Patton twisted a bit more, causing another cry and jolt of pain. “Understood?”
Deceit swallowed and nodded. When Patton smiled, it appeared almost sinister to Deceit. And that’s when he saw it. Patton’s eyes were no longer their soft and warm brown. But a bright orange, with a soft glow surrounding it.
He released Deceit, backing up from the side and took a seat on his bed. Deceit stared at him, mind racing but no thoughts truly processing. Patton glanced at him, still holding that damn smile.
“And Deceit? Tell. No. One.”
[ @perfect-harmonia @drun-in-a-million @k-9-1-1-yes-hello @ly-cant-even @addie-bear ]
Deep underneath the halls of the castle of Lazuroth, lied an intricate prison. One made for one specific purpose. For one specific person.
Midge wondered why she made the decision to keep her here. Why she’d chosen this instead of killing her. Or letting Addie kill her. She’d killed her once before, after all. Why not this time? Perhaps it was by Togal’s own interference. Perhaps Midge couldn’t bring herself to do it this time. Or perhaps even a part of her got a sick sense of satisfaction knowing that Harmonia would be trapped here, powerless, for the rest of her days.
She was actually kind of glad for that decision, now. Who else could she ask about something like this.
Harmonia Cuppari looked up from the wall, her eyes looking over Midge for just a moment for a far too satisfied smile appeared on her face. “Madrigal. To what do I owe the pleasure? Missing your mother?”
“Not even remotely,” Midge told her, her tone as cold as the room around them, not that the two Lazurothians were bothered by it. Her eyes narrowed. “I’m here for information.”
Harmonia chuckled. “Of course you are.” She straightened up her seating, the chains around her wrists and ankles clinking as she did so. A rare metal called Atlantisian. It seemed to hold property to suppress supernatural powers, like Harmonia’s ice magic. “Never drop by just to say hello.”
“And I never will,” Midge hissed, ensuring her tone was as sincere as it was cutting. Not that Harmonia would care that even after all these years, the animosity Midge held for Harmonia still burned as bright as Addie’s flames. “What have you lied to me about this time?”
Harmonia didn’t seem fazed by the question, even sighing in exasperation. “I haven’t the faintest clue what you mean, dear.”
“Don’t ‘dear’ me, you self-centered bitch!” Midge snapped. There was a crackling of new ice forming around them. “You have to know something. You always do!” She growled, her hands balled into fists. “Why are me and my children hearing singing?!”
Harmonia rose a brow in genuine confusion. “Singing?”
“Yes! Singing! It’s like distant voices. My son mentions it sounds like someone calling and I have to agree.” She took a step forward and glowered. “Why is this happening? What haven’t you told me?!”
Harmonia stared at Midge for the longest time, as if contemplating what it was Midge even said. That scrutinizing gaze. Even now it made Midge want to shove an icy saber through her main heart.
The temptation grew when Harmonia began to laugh, the condescending sound bouncing off the frozen walls. Midge’s eye glowed blue in their fury. She knew no one would question her if she killed Harmonia again, they would never defy her over it. But she’d promised to never let her power go to her head. She would be a good example for her children. She would not rule by fear.
“Well, well, well,” Harmonia said, her voice full of amusement, “I honestly did not think this would be the way you found out. Hearing the Calling like that.”
Midge scowled. “What are you talking about? Find out what?”
“Oh, my darling daughter,” her voice was sickeningly sweet. Mocking. Midge had the image of ripping her vocal cords from her throat. “You’ve truly never even suspected? Never even questioned it?”
“If you don’t start actually talking about something of substance I am going to bury you under a thousand feet of snow,” Midge threatened.
“Tsk tsk. No need for threats, dear. You have the advantage here, remember?” Unfortunately. Harmonia had been trying to figure a way out of this for years, and yet here she was, still trapped beneath her own castle like some long forgotten relic.
If only he were still alive…
“Haven’t you ever wondered,” Harmonia explained, “why it was you could use your adrunel at such a high degree? No Lazurothian has ever accomplished such a feat and lived to tell the tale. It’s not because it takes some sort of great concentration. It’s because it is impossible to do so. Otherwise I would have tried.”
“I don’t believe you. You thought I was going to die that day when I defeated you.” Midge mentioned.
“I did. But only because you never showed any sign of inheriting anything from your father. Up until then, at least.” Harmonia smirked. “Then you got ice powers, and, oh, you adapted so beautifully to them. So easily. You’ve truly never wondered why that is? Or why the majority of your biological children have unexplained supernatural powers? I’m sure you could ask your mate what the true likelihood of a werewolf and a human producing werewolf children is? You know, the weird one with the goggles.”
“Don’t talk about my mates,” Midge snarled. “And what the fuck are you talking about? Drun inherited his powers from me. The twins are werewolves because...Dek was one. Addie...Addie…”
“Seeing where it falls apart, I see.”
“She’s a Jedi. Force sensitive. They can do...extraordinary and unexplained things.”
“I can assure you, different color fire is not one of those things,” Harmonia told her.
“You don’t know that! You’re talking out of your ass just to get your way like you always do!”
“And you are being crass and stubborn as you always are,” Harmonia argued, her tone tired. “I’ve given you the explanation to what you’re hearing. It is called a Calling. I witnessed it once. Couldn’t hear it, but it is quite phenomenal how far it can travel. Only one race can perform it and only its own kind can hear it. They are called Mefni, and they are elemental beings.”
“You’re speaking nonsense and it’s pissing me off!” Midge roared, stomping her foot. Spikes of dangerously sharp ice shot up from the ground. “Why would I, a Lazurothian, and my children, be able to hear something only this one race can hear that none of us have any lineage from?!”
“Did you not hear me mention your father at all? Or are you losing your hearing as well as your edge?”
Midge stared in disbelief. “You really wanna mess with my head that badly? My father was your brother. What does he have to do with any of this?”
“You’ll find records in the archives of exactly one time I left the planet. I wanted a change of scenery for a bit. The events afterward, however, you’ll find were either kept quiet or rewritten as to not expose what occurred. As to not expose what you truly are.” Harmonia’s gaze was intense, a sick glint of victory in her eye. “To be honest, after several years of you showing no signs of his lineage, I was under the impression that perhaps those genetics were nulled in hybrids. However, over the years I’ve seen they were merely dormant, needing just the tiniest of pushes.” A vile smirk appeared on her face. “A shame that I created such a powerful force by pure accident, only to have her turn against me.”
Midge was gaping, unable to put together what Harmonia was saying. It...it couldn’t be true. Harmonia’s ancestors had established the disgusting tradition of the royal family keeping the bloodline within the family. It made no sense for Harmonia to defy it. It made even less sense for her to defy with another race altogether.
No. No it had to be a lie. Just another game for Harmonia to play in Midge thoughts. Midge glared lethally at the woman before her, gritting her teeth in fury.
“You brought that upon yourself,” Midge said, her voice low and murderous. “You brought all of this upon yourself. And I know you’re lying to me.”
She turned on her heel, stomping her way out of the prison. She would not entertain anything Harmonia had just said. She would not.
“You know I’m not, Madrigal!” Harmonia called. “You can feel I’m telling the truth. I bet you can hear that voice even now.”
Midge didn’t respond, not wanting to give Harmonia the satisfaction of knowing she was right.
Even deep down her, beneath the stone and snow, she could hear that voice as if it were right next to her.
Ah ah ah ahhhhh~
000000000000000000
Not too long after Midge had reached the main floor of the castle, her communicator beeped. She answered it immediately. “Addie.”
Her oldest gave a worried gaze from the screen. “I have a feeling that all the calls to my phone from you, Drun and Rían have nothing to do with Christmas.”
Midge sighed. “I’m sorry to say that it doesn’t.” Her brow furrowed, struggling to shove all of Harmonia’s words out of her mind. “You...wouldn’t happen to have been hearing singing...have you? Like...disembodied singing that seems to come from no where?”
There was a pause that seemed to last a thousand years and yet only a second all at once. “I have,” Addie admitted. There was movement on the screen, perhaps of her typing something. “Not only that...I managed to trace the frequency. Difficult, considering apparently I’m the only one hearing it around here.”
A hologram appeared above the communicator of a green planet with four moons. Midge furrowed her brow questioningly, but Addie was way ahead. “That planet isn’t too far from Lazuroth, probably a week by ship with maybe one warp jump.” It was Addie’s turn to look questioning. “Mama...I thought Lazuroth was the only planet with life in that whole quadrant.”
Midge stared at this planet, feeling Harmonia’s words threatening to break down the walls she’d put in place to keep them out. “I...I thought so, too…”
Addie became quiet for a moment, seeming to study her mother. She nibbled her bottom lip, a habit she made sure to keep a secret from any of her subordinates. But around family it was always okay to show nerves. “What do you think it is?”
Midge contemplated her answer. She was not about to discuss anything Harmonia had said to her. It was all garbage as far as she was concerned. “I...don’t know. But all my instincts tell me it has to be a trap of some kind.” Because of course it was. It always was. “Obviously I can’t tell you what to do, but I’m going to ignore it. When they realize we won’t take the bait it should stop.”
Addie looked like she hadn’t quit understood that answer. In fact, Midge almost felt like she was being heavily analyzed. She truly hoped Addie wouldn’t try to drag more information out of her. None of them needed to know what Harmonia said. The idea of them all being part some elemental race was ludicrous, and Midge absolutely refused to entertain the idea. “If you think that’s the best course of action, then I will trust your judgement.”
Midge nodded. “Alright.” Her face morphed into a genuine smile. “I’ll see you at Christmas, sweetheart.”
“You will. Love you.”
“Love you, too.”
0000000000000000
“Part elemental?” Drun asked after Rían got done relaying what he’d heard.
“An elemental race known as Mefni. Apparently Harmonia is saying that’s the real reason we all have powers. Or handle them so well.”
“But what about Ada? She doesn’t have powers,” Ruby pointed out.
“Yeah, but you said she mentioned that Mom showed no signs until much later in life.” Drun’s brow furrowed. “...What are they calling for?”
Ruby shook her head. “Don’t even think about it. Tomorrow is Christmas! And you heard Mama! She’s pretty sure Harmonia was lying.”
“Yeah but she doesn’t know,” Drun replied. “For all we know it’s a call for help or something. From family!”
“Or it’s another plot to get someone kidnapped again,” argued Rían.
“Come on! You can’t tell me you don’t want to know what it is!” Drun said insistently.
Rían shrugged. “Bro, I just want a Christmas where no one gets kidnapped, okay? I’m willing to let some weird spectral singing bother me for that.”
Drun shook with frustration, a few stray snowflakes falling from his balled up fists. He made a small growling noise. “Fine,” he said shortly before stomping off.
“Drun!” Ruby called worriedly.
Drun didn’t answer, stomping all the way to his room. It took everything in him not to slam the door, if only because it would alert one of his parents to his distress. He flopped onto his bed and screamed into a pillow.
How could everyone else brush it off like that?! There was some strange occurrence going on and not a single person cared to find out what it was? Where it came from? Why it was happening? Wasn’t his family supposed to be Team Nebula? Wasn’t stuff like this basically their job?!
Drun growled again, taking a moment to stare at his window. The stars glittered in the sky, dancing around Lazuroths rings. A heavy debate began to wrestle in his mind. He shouldn’t go anywhere tonight or tomorrow. Not yet anyway, but he also couldn’t help but second guess himself over whether he should go at all.
After all, the likelihood of it being a trap was unfortunately astronomically high…
Ah ah ah ahhhhh~
And yet, Drun thought, his antennae perking toward the sound.
Ah ah ah ahhhhh~
... remember when I had that good swing on that long self-insert fic going? Yeah, me too. Good times. [ffn] [AO3]
Well... I sat the fuck down and finished up the next one. Joke is... 33 will be the hardest to do lmao I’m so not ready
Anyway, this instalment takes a Definitely Spoopy turn; wanted to publish it at Halloween for a reason, but, uh, as you can see... it’s mid fucking December. Not even the Robin time can rectify that.
32. White noise
“Oh, my, what pretty flowers have sprouted here overnight,” comes the amused voice of Robin from behind them not two seconds later.
Law’s eyes shoot up immediately, and he also sits up post-haste, almost headbutting the railing himself. “Nico-ya…” he starts with a wary drawl; “since when have you been here?” She's the nosy type, too… might have heard fucking everything. Shit.
Kat also turns towards her with open arms. “Ah, Robin!”
“I see you’re in a much better mood than before…. good for you,” she smiles at Kat immediately upon seeing her enthusiastic, flushed little face, and sprouts a hand on her back to give her head a scratching, which she seems to enjoy quite a lot. “As for your question… five minutes, maybe?” she shrugs then at Law as the moaning watering can in her hands is put to work. “Your vivid duet was hard to miss,” she continues with a chuckle. “You shouldn’t lie around in this weather, though, lest you catch Miss Kat a cold for next week.”
He feels blood rush to his face again. For some reason, getting caught laughing by her is as embarrassing as anything else. As is getting talked to like a toddler.
“I wasn’t planning on staying here much longer anyhow,” he grumbles with a huff. “We have business to attend to, not to mention that you being out gardening equals to everything getting wetter and colder, anyway.”
Next thing he knows is that she’s holding the can directly above him for a quick shower; he’s just dumbfounded, and Kat snorts as soon as the action registers.
“You’ll be the one to give me a cold this way, Robin,” she giggles then just as the woman moves on.
“Sorry, couldn’t resist… do you want me to get him one, too?” the archeologist asks then, offering the business end of the object.
“What’s with all of you today, I swear…” Law shakes his head, and the curly hair sprays everyone with the water that’s stuck among the curls. “Are you standing in for Nose-ya, or what?” Him, Carrot and Luffy are the only ones up for this kind of bullshit at any given time. And Chopper, whenever they can rake him into idiocy.
“I suppose someone has to,” she hums, pouring a little of the leftover water on Kat while passing. “It gets mundane without the kids around.” The can sinks into a barrel of water to refill.
“It sure was too peaceful out here to be true,” the man mumbles standing up, then bows down to shake out whatever water is left and willing to drop. “Or inside, for that matter. I’m missing a bunch of my crew for sure, and by the looks of it, so do you,” he says then, straightening up. He’ll need to fetch a towel, goddamn. Also, he’s officially really, really cold.
“Oh… everyone’s being scarce?” asks Kat while wiping the water off her face, then also swishing whatever possible out of her hair. Nami kept her company, but she couldn't help notice the empty seats during breakfast.
The archeologist nods. “Yes… I went ahead and checked the other ship on my way up myself. Nary a soul. And, as you may have noticed already, our wacky musician and sniper, as well as little doctor are yet to be accounted for. Since Franky just left with Sanji and Carrot to shop for odds and ends, this ship is as good as dead,” she states, pulling the filled container out of the barrel. She stops to think for a second. “I am a little worried, though,” she notes then, looking out towards town. “The boys may have gone out together, but Chopper is not one to stay out for an entire night. As an animal, he needs plenty of rest. I doubt he has that luxury out there… the commotion died off early in the morning, and the music is already starting up again.”
“Yeah, it's always pretty noisy on this weekend,” agrees Kat while Law murmurs something that sounds like a ‘thought so,’ likely referring to his crewmates. The ruckus is bad enough that she’s decidedly happy over being able to stay over for these two nights specifically.
“If they don’t get back soon I’ll have to assume they got themselves lynched in a dark alley,” the woman declares as the moaning ghost starts spewing water again.
“… even Brook?” muses the girl two seconds down the line with a raised brow and half a smile.
Hearing that brings back Robin’s, too. “Even though he’s already dead? Yes.”
Law finds the idea less funny. “Don’t jinx it, Nico-ya. I doubt they would have any problems with some ragtag thieves, but we know for a fact that there are some shifty folks out in some alleys,” he informs the woman while pointing towards Kat with a thumb, then starts rubbing himself for some warmth. He could have lived his entire life without having been reminded of that situation, really.
“… oh. Yeah, there was that, too, huh.” She… forgot about that, despite the adventure freaking her out quite a lot at the time. Thinking about this, she also stands up at last, patting the dirt and whatever there is off her dew-soaked thighs.
The tense focus returns. “Oh my… then I better get looking as soon as possible, don’t I.”
“I’m about to send Jean Bart out to collect our entourage, too. Might as well join him.” He’s there for sure, heard him cursing on his way up. Also the only other person to keep people on task on board of the Polar Tang, so there’s noone better to get those sad excuses of pirates moving again.
“Would you be so kind as to ask him to look for our lost ones in my stead, then?” Robin turns to Law after short consideration.
“Huh?” Backing out? Nico-ya, of all people? “Why that?”
She sighs. “I would prefer not to spend more time out with all the bushoo around is all… They make me feel uneasy, even despite the cute costumes.” She still thinks it was silly to miss out on most of the fair on Tuesday because of the minute weakness of being reminded of what happened in the city of water when she was alone with Chopper for a little, but last night, the entire flocks of them really made her nervous for some reason. She constantly felt like being watched by those vacant, painted-on eyes. All in all, soon after Nami and Carrot left, she also excused herself.
“Well, fine by me,” the man sighs then, giving his freezing self one last rub. “I guess you’ll be willing to come practice now, too?” he turns then to Kat while wiping a stray drop of water falling out of his hair.
“Um… yeah.” She’s getting unsure again, and can already see today becoming extremely awkward with the two of them just… being stuck in the same, cluttered room. Alone. Just… don’t think about it. Don’t think about it.
“Thank you,” Robin nods with notable relief, with the once more empty can in her flailing hand. “And you do your best, alright?” she smiles then at Kat, who’s also starting to get cold by the looks of it.
“No need to, Nico-ya,” Law replies while moving back direction hellcave, with Kat tiptoeing backwards in tow with a wave and hum.
Pretty much as soon as they enter the metal staircase, it becomes obvious how few people are around. Not because they are not physically present, but rather… the silence is too big for this to be a ship with twenty plus people on board.
Hearing someone make a racket under these circumstances sticks out like a sore thumb, though. As is the one making it in general.
Law turns a corner Kat has never taken before. She follows him awkwardly after a second of consideration, then takes a quick look around the humid room they arrive at; the showers are about as utilitarian as a place like this can get. There's four stalls, and a metal bench and shelves across them where some people have left some clothing articles and soap lying about. She also notes some pipes on the floor next to Jean Bart, who is standing in the middle in a small puddle and fills half the midspace himself… they must be for that leakage problem from the other day. Explains why he's ripping off half the metal ceiling, if nothing else.
“Jean, sorry to bother you right now, but would you be so kind and, uh, ‘collect’ our idiots from town?” asks Law without beating around the bush.
The burly man sighs. “Did think it right when considering it myself, ey? Will do, capt’n. I’m not the man for the rest of this, anyway.”
“Thanks,” Law waves with a nod, already turning around to trod deeper down into the submarine. “Oh, and… keep an eye out for the other bunch, while at it.”
An unwilling grunt. “… if I must.”
By the time they arrive at the bottom, a total silence sets in. And soon enough Kat has to admit that unfortunately, she cannot concentrate to save her life… exactly as she’s feared, she has difficulty paying attention. Only after five minutes, she becomes sickeningly aware of the fact that she’s all alone with Law, or, occasionally, it’s her imagination that starts tugging her away to other times and places. It’s all bad or embarrassing memories… no matter which happens, however, it’s on the uncomfortable side of nervous. Instead of butterflies, there are barely not cramping muscles on the menu. Not sure whether this is the better of the two worlds…
Just to make things harder, the ambience really seems off today. Like, yeah, the buzzing is still there, but at any other time, there’s the crew up and about every now and then on this floor, not to mention their voices can echo down here all the way up from the dining hall. But today… there’s nothing. Apart from her grumbling stomach, that is. Like in the evening, she couldn't get much food down her throat at breakfast, and it's finally catching up with her…
After an hour or so, the silence itself has grown into just another reason to be on edge, and soon enough, it’s Kat’s main concern. Instead of wanting to be in another room altogether, she gets the feeling that there’s some monster lurking outside in wait, making this room with Law in it the safest place available. Whenever the bells ring outside, it’s like thunder rolling in the dead of the night.
As such, she gets especially nervous upon him leaving said safe bubble after one of these ghastly tolls; if nothing else, it’s extra relieving to see his return in a few minutes. He doesn’t look all that happy with the situation, either.
“This is getting… weird,” he states upon arrival.
“… are they still not back?” That does not sound reassuring. Also, she does need her usual background noise to be somewhat less useless.
The man just hums. “A few of them are, including my three idiots… but something is definitely fishy about this. According to Bepo, they haven’t seen most of the crew since around 2 am when they wobbled back home, not to mention that they have apparently not run into Jean Bart this morning, either.” He sighs with worry, putting up his right to the chin in contemplation. “Maybe they are planning something stupid, since the other crew seems to be involved… but Clione and Uni are not the types who would participate in that, and they’ve been the first to bail.” In their case, it’s been nearly a day by now, too…
Kat also groans. “The submarine is really spooky with nothing but random noises down here… if this is supposed to be a joke, it’s not funny.”
“Same here. Those three just left again, so I asked them to keep an eye out… we’ll see in an hour or two. Until that… might as well have lunch? Or a very belated breakfast… while Fugu is still in.” He’d rather not tempt his luck twice.
As such, the girl gets to be in the dining hall once more. It is a very different experience with only eight people around, counting her, Law and the cook. Latter doesn’t even stay, but packs up to go grocery shopping as soon as they get their servings. Overall, the eerie silence persists. Once three other people leave to go fishing, it becomes nigh unbearable; it’s pure luck that she’s finished up by then. She pours another mug of the tasty, warm tea before descending back into the panic room.
Then the seconds, minutes, then likely multiple hours just pass, and pass in the same vein, until there is quite a racket, first upstairs, then quickly closing in as the staircase is indicating. Almost immediately after, the door bursts open, with three very familiar faces.
“Thank god, you’re still here,” sighs Penguin and nearly collapses from the relief.
“… I’m going to skip the ‘learn knocking’ part, and go straight to questions,” Law insists, his hand nervously grabbing onto the back of the chair. There’s officially a problem, and by god, is he in no position to be of use right now.
“Noone’s here!” cries Shachi; “First it was just weird, then weirder… since we saw literally no friends out in town…!! But then there was one of the fishing rods just lying around outside, and now we didn’t find anyone in the hall, either! I poked my nose into the kitchen while Pengu and Bepo had a look at the bedrooms, but not even Fugu is around! Half of the soup has gone and evaporated already… he should have been back ages ago!” By the time his rant comes to a close, he’s on the verge on tears. Bepo has been at it since the second line, and is sobbing into Penguin’s hat, who’s not even in the mood to scold him for getting it all bear snotty.
Without another word, Law is already outside, busting up door after door.
They open every single one of them, one by one, but there’s no life to be found. Wherever they look, the hallways, Ikkaku’s room, back door of the dining hall, engine, or even the cold room… it's all fallen silent. Not a single soul around apart from Kat, Law, Bepo, Shachi and Penguin. They don’t hear any noise until they enter the showers, where the faulty pipe is still dripping from above through the removed panels. The pulsating darkness gives Kat, who’s been following the boys around in panicked silence, the chills; were she alone, she’d get spooked by her own shadow.
There’s but a ringing in her ears. And it’s deafening.
Maiko + Tropes
Back to Avatar the Last Airbender, where it all started. It’s time to do tropes for my ATLA OTP: Zuko/Mai. Prepare for some teenage grouchiness. (Sourced from TVTropes.) Also, Spoilers
1. ADORKABLE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai:  Mai is not normally very adorkable, but around Zuko she gets all giggly and blushy. They express their love in very awkward and adorable ways. The B-story in "Nightmares and Daydreams" is a good example.
Zuko: All of his attempts to be a normal and friendly guy end up charming failures. Notably, he practices an apology to a frog, then proceeds to demand an answer.
2. ANTI-VILLAIN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Though not to the extent of Ty Lee (what with being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold instead of a straight-on Nice Girl), she is still only going up against the good guys because she works under someone who is evil.
Zuko:  An early episode contrasts him with Zhao, who only wants to find the Avatar to bring himself glory while Zuko was only even there is to complete a mission so his father will love him.
3. BETA COUPLE
Tumblr media
Mai:  With Zuko.
Zuko: With Mai. While Aang and Katara dance around the issue, they're snuggling and watching sunsets. Flipped on its head in the comics, where Zuko and Mai go through a bad breakup while Aang and Katara are relatively stable Sickeningly Sweethearts.
4. BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Tumblr media
Mai: With Zuko. They're both perpetually frowning Emo Teens with some kind of family issuewho are from the Fire Nation and use bladed weapons.
Zuko: With Mai. They're both perpetually frowning Emo Teens with some kind of family issue who are from the Fire Nation and use bladed weaponsWith Katara. They're both willful, compassionate, and emotional individuals who lost their respective mothers at a young age and are about equal in terms of bending abilities.
5. BROKEN BIRD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Her mother treated her like a liability instead of a daughter, was not allowed hobbies or even to speak unless spoken to, and her only friends were Ty Lee and Azula. No wonder Mai is so cynical and bitter.
Zuko: A rare male example; any innocence he had was lost between his father's and sister's abuse.
6. BROODING BOY, GENTLE GIRL
Tumblr media
Mai: Zig zagged with Zuko — Both manage to be both with each other. For the brooding part, they both come from a dysfunctional family which led to them becoming Broken Birds but in different ways (Zuko having anger issues and Mai suppressing her emotions). As for the gentle part, both encourage one another to express themselves in healthier, non-problematic ways.
Zuko: Zig zagged with Mai — Both manage to be both with each other. For the brooding part, they both come from a dysfunctional family which led to them becoming Broken Birds but in different ways (Zuko having anger issues and Mai suppressing her emotions). As for the gentle part, both encourage one another to express themselves in healthier, non-problematic ways.Katara is the gentle girl to Zuko's brooding boy - they are a platonic variation of this trope, despite the Ship Tease.There's a very brief moment of this with Toph and Zuko - in "The Ember Island Players", Toph comforts Zuko while he's angsting over his Uncle. They go back to being Like Brother and Sister, though, when she punches him and informs him that "That's how I show affection."
7. CHARLES ATLAS SUPERPOWER
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: While turning her back on Azula at the Boiling Rock, she managed to consistently pin several guards onto solid metal architecture, using the same knives with which she attacks everything and everyone else. More passively, she's on even footing with the average elite bender, such as Early-Season-2 Katara and half the Terra Team sent to attack The Drill.
Zuko: While one of the most visibly muscular characters, he once punches a person across a room, and is seen shattering iron, steel, and wood with his kicks. All that training has served him well. Might be a result of Iroh's training: even among the Fire Nation, Iroh and Zuko are the only ones to display superhuman strength unrelated to bending.
8. CHILDHOOD FRIEND  ROMANCE
Tumblr media
Mai: In a flashback, we see her admiring Zuko from afar as kids.
Zuko: With Mai. There's a flashback to Puppy Love.
9. DEADPAN SNARKER
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Has a very dry sense of humor.
Zuko: Since Zuko's the most ill-tempered character in the show, this is a given. He's actually a lot like Katara in that respect: particularly sarcastic in books one and two, less so for a part of book three, and then more so for the other half.For instance, after some random kids threw an egg at Earth Kingdom soldiers, they blame Zuko, who continually denies it. It eventually leads to this exchange:Gow: The egg had to come from somewhere! Zuko: Maybe a chicken flew over.He also manages to get in a few good ones at Sokka, of all people:Zuko: I think I'm a little past your level, Sokka. Why don't you practice with the Duke or something. Sokka: The Duke? But he's, like, eight years old! Zuko: He should be a good match for you, then.Even eight-year-old Zuko gets in on the action.Azula : You waste all your time playing with knives. You're not even good! Zuko : Put an apple on your head and we'll find out how good I am!
10. DEFROSTING ICE KING/QUEEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Much like her boyfriend, except it takes her longer to thaw.
Zuko:  It takes two and a half seasons, but he thaws with The Power of Friendship.
11. DUDE/CHICK MAGNET
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Besides Zuko, another teen flirted with her in "The Beach", and Kei Lo admits to genuinely liking her.
Tumblr media
Zuko: Sometimes in a relationship with Mai. He has loads of Ship Tease with Katara and a temporary love interest in the one-off character of Jin. The comics also have him being ship teased with Suki. Has almost as much onscreen romance as Sokka, plus a fan club and a bunch of random girls that swoon over him at the beach.
Tumblr media
12. EERIE PALE SKINNED BRUNETTE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Emphasizing her emo personality.
Zuko: During the first season, where he has chalk-white skin coupled with a black ponytail. It later evens out slightly; sometimes his hair is dark brown instead of straight black, and he adopts a very slight tan that takes the edge off the eerie. That said, cutting off the ponytail and growing his hair out properly probably also helped.
13. HIDDEN DEPTHS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: The gloomy knife thrower is a Cool Big Sis after off-screen Character Development.
Zuko: Badass, Determinator, Evil Prince -turned- The Atoner, is also a Momma's Boy and a lover of Turtleducks. In the "Ember Island Players", he gives hints that he likes theater, but just dislikes that specific group because while they have great special effects, they tend to butcher their stories. He admits to Toph that he's been doing Angst? What Angst? for some time, but the play is opening some hidden wounds.Toph: "Oh come on. Lighten up. They're just having fun." Zuko: "Fun? Of course you (Toph) like it. They made you a big buff guy! But to me... they're taking all the mistakes I made and throwing them right back in my face."His Uncle has indicated numerous times Zuko is also skilled with the fictional Tsungi horn.
14. JERK WITH A HEART OF GOLD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Generally quite a jerk but she has a soft spot for Zuko.
Zuko: He's Hot-Blooded and can still be quite rude, but Zuko is a good hearted person.
15. KICK THE DOG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: In her first appearance, she turns down a hostage deal for her own infant brother.In the comics she dishes out a lot of emotional abuse against Zuko, although she still claims to care for him. She jokes about his death, his choice of friends after meeting Aang, and talks about how awful he is in general to Kei Lo.
Zuko: Often when he was in danger of becoming too nice, at least until his formal Heel–Face Turn in Book 3.
16. LONELY RICH KID
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: She has no friends other Ty-Lee and Azula, and they were off at the circus or war.
Zuko: He is the banished prince of the Fire Nation, but you can literally count the people who genuinely care for him on one hand (Iroh, Mai and Ursa). Eventually subverted when he makes his Heel–Face Turn, after which he becomes part of Aang's True Companions.
17. LOVE REDEEMS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai:  She follows Zuko in Heel–Face Turn because of his turn and her love for him.
Zuko: Averted with Mai. He leaves her before switching to the good side and the two don't reconcile their relationship until after the final battle. Instead it was familial love for Iroh, whom he acknowledges as his true father figure and role model, that redeems him. The shame he feels for betraying his uncle's trust is part of what compels him to make his Heel–Face Turn. He also influenced Mai to follow suit and betray Azula.
18. THE MASOCHISM TANGO
Tumblr media
Mai: Her relationship with Zuko is not healthy. The two love each other but their conflicting morals and lack of communication leads to countless fights and their constant break-ups. She spends pages in Avatar: The Last Airbender – Smoke and Shadow describing what a horrible boyfriend Zuko is and how badly a relationship with him had hurt her. This leads to her making harsh jokes at his expense and she expresses the need for her to "move on" by dating Kei Lo.
Zuko: Has this type of relationship with Mai. They love each other but constantly fight, do not understand each other, have different morals and are always breaking up only to get back together again. Mai tells Kei Lo about how miserable Zuko makes her feel and she later says it to Zuko's face about how much of an idiot she was to date him.
19. MEANINGFUL NAME
Mai: Mai is the Cantonese pronunciation of 袂 meaning "sleeve of a robe", which is where Mai conceals her weapons.Her name is phonetically similar to the Japanese mei (冥, めい), meaning "dark", which is relatable to her gloomy personality.
Zuko: Zuko's name is written in Chinese characters which read as "ancestor's robber". It may or may not be intentional, but Zuko is an actual name in a Filipino dialect. Its meaning? "Madness" or "Angry." And he spends a lot of time angry in the show...
20. MUGGLE-MAGE ROMANCE
Tumblr media
Mai:  In a relationship with Zuko.
Zuko: In a relationship with non-bender Mai.
21. NEW OLD FLAME
Tumblr media
Mai: She and Zuko are a textbook "skip all the boring foreplay and get right to the intensity." Contrast with the heroic Official Couple, who were in the foreplay stage for fifty episodes. In this case we see a flashback of them as Childhood Friends before the reunion.
Zuko: Zuko and Mai are a textbook "skip all the boring foreplay and get right to the intensity." Contrast with the heroic Official Couple, who were in the foreplay stage for fifty episodes. In this case, we see a flashback of them as Childhood Friends before the reunion.
22. NOBLE DEMON
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: She may be on Azula's side, but she's not evil.
Zuko: Character Development for him in Season 1. He goes from burning down the Kyoshi Warriors' village in his pursuit of Aang to abandoning a later pursuit to keep his soldiers safe. Even right from the start, he threatens the South Pole villagers to get information on the Avatar but when Aang promises to come quietly if he leaves the Water tribe alone, Zuko agrees (and keeps his word).
23. OPPOSITES ATTRACT
Tumblr media
Mai: She and Zuko somehow manage to be this and Birds of a Feather. Despite their apparent similarities, their temperaments are completely opposite: Zuko is a Hot-Blooded Determinator, whereas Mai is an emotionless Defrosting Ice Queen.
Zuko:  He and Mai somehow manage to be this and Birds of a Feather. Despite their apparent similarities, their temperaments are completely opposite: Zuko is a Hot-Blooded Determinator, whereas Mai is an emotionless Defrosting Ice Queen.
24. PERPETUAL FROWNER
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Even when she's cuddling with her boyfriend she's frowning.
Zuko: "I'm never happy." Though it is averted around Mai, and after he joins Team Avatar.
25. RED ONI, BLUE ONI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: The blue to Ty Lee's red. Or, since Ty Lee describes Mai's aura as grey, and hers as pink, Mai's the Grey Oni to Ty Lee's Pink Oni.
Zuko: The emotional, easily angered Red Oni to his sister's calculating, eerily calm Blue Oni, though it's reversed after her Villainous Breakdown. This is enforced by the colors of the Flames they produce; Zuko's flames are red/orange, while Azula's are blue.The hot-tempered, loud Red Oni to Aang's positive, peace-loving Blue Oni, which is visualized through their facial markings (red scar vs. blue tattoos)
26. RELATIONSHIP REVOLVING DOOR
Tumblr media
Mai: She is in a constant on-off relationship with Zuko. It's unstable to say the least. They get together only to break things off a few months later. They make up but then decide to call it quits again. It is supposed to be a contrast to Aang and Katara's solid relationship.
Zuko:  His relationship with Mai is complicated and...unstable to say the least. They break up at least twice in the series and once again in the comics.
27. SOUR OUTSIDE SAD INSIDE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Like Zuko, she acts cold as a result of her past.
Zuko: He may act abrasive, but knowing his past, it's not hard to see why.
28. TALL DARK AND SNARKY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: A raven-haired Snark Knight. It's a trait she shares with Zuko.
Zuko: Tallest teenager in the series with raven hair and a cynical attitude.
29. TOOK A LEVEL IN BADASS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Mai already established herself as a badass (but quiet and knife obsessed) Lady of War took a level in badass in the episode "The Boiling Rock, Part 2". Mai took out 13 prison guards and freed the gondola line to help Zuko and company escape the boiling rock prison...and Princess Azula. Although this could just be a case of Mai being Not So Stoic.
Zuko: He gradually improves throughout the series, but he makes dramatic improvements in season 3. It's then he learns to redirect the most powerful of lightning, holds his own against his sister, casually raise a huge fire tunnel that engulfs an entire hallway, and most importantly, firebends without relying on rage.
30. UNDYING LOYALTY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: To Zuko. Even when their relationship is on the rocks, she remains loyal. Two instances: the Boiling Rock encounter where Zuko explains his treason and desertion and inspires her to defy Azula herself, and again in the "Rebound" free comic day issue where she discovers her father wants to use her as an insider against Zuko in a bid to put Ozai back on the throne.
Zuko: This is Zuko's greatest weakness and greatest strength. Loyalty kept Zuko on the side of his father and sister long after he stopped seeing things their way, but when he finally made up his mind to join Aang, he took a lot of punishment from them without complaint to win their trust, and he protected them over and over. In the sequel, Zuko abdicated the throne, naming his daughter Fire Lord, so that he could travel the world after Aang's death, to keep their dream alive while the Avatar could not.
31. WHEN HE/SHE SMILES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mai: Just like her boyfriend, she frowns so often that she looks really cute when she smiles genuinely.
Zuko:  The poor guy is frowning so often (and for good reason), the few times he gives a genuine smile are really heartwarming.
32. WELL, EXCUSE ME PRINCESS
Tumblr media
Mai: To Zuko. She doesn't put up with his angsting.
Zuko: Something of a male version of this trope in regards to Mai. She doesn't put up with his brooding and temperamental nature, instead encouraging him to lighten up.
Masterpost of all the Post-series conclusions to Stuntiteacher AU stories
Mun: Here you go everyone! All the conclusions to stories I’ve had in my head these past few months, I hope you enjoy them for as long as it took me to write them all. I think I’ll probably draw some of these for my own enjoyment, as well as in general stuff regarding my favorite designs and what not. Like previously stated, I’m not done with this blog yet, this is more a precaution and just an in general “open endings to the stories”. I know some of these things are things people wanted to know about!
Post-Stuntiteachers AU
Please note that Cybertron and Earth are treated as two continents on the same planet in this AU.
Bee Team and Steeljaw travelled back to Cybertron to confront the corrupted high council. Very similar to in canon events, Cyberwarp managed to be a reckoning force that took Cyclonus down. The five were sentenced to prison, with Cyberwarp being in a separate jail and with a lessened punishment for her actions.
The new council is set up, with Windblade having to leave her teaching position in Earth until Cybertron elects their new council properly. Steeljaw, having the most authority regarding Decepticon affairs at that point, becomes an ambassador for Decepticons both in jail and out (until Soundwave and/or Starscream come out of their comas). He chooses to return to Earth to be with his own allies but keeps communications open and active with the Autobots to keep his post (he wants to make a change happen, and this is his best opportunity). Bee and his team return to their true home in Earth and resume their teaching/police jobs.
But you’re all here for the shipping side of things, so here we go on post-series fates.
Bee and Steeljaw awkwardly become friends through the Autobot/Decepticon alliance. At first it was still just strictly work related meetings but over time Steeljaw would just pull stuff to get his attention. Nothing past platonic, but an interesting development to both of their characters. Bee becomes more aware of what life is like for the Decepticons and becomes more sympathetic, while Steeljaw learns from Bee how to be a better person and strengthen his own existing relationships with his teammates and partner. After a while, they decide to make life easier for them work wise and do video chats every now and then (in private locations cause you don’t need cops finding out where your hideouts are).
Sideswipe and Strongarm both come out and confess their affections to Windblade when she returns back to Earth, and awkwardly ask which one of them she would consider dating if interested. Windblade takes a day to think, and decides if it was alright with them, she’d like to date them both. The three of them are very happy together, even if Strongarm and Sideswipe still squabble like children every now and then.
Grimlock and Drift remain good friends after Drift confides in Grim how he’s not particularly interested in romantic affairs (Grim is totally understanding about it and started asking before giving Drift big hugs). Drift even assists Grimlock in attempting to try asking Bumblebee out. Bee, although extremely flustered and nervous at the advance, accepts.
Slipstream and Jetstorm grow up with their ambitions of wanting to be police rookies and maybe one day becoming private investigators. They both suspect they’ll end up chasing down Airazor and Divebomb one day, as the two are trying to become bounty hunters like their dad. But until then, in their teen years, the four of them became close friends, and try double dating for a while, much to their fathers’ hesitation (“I’m not becoming an in-law to HIM no matter what”).
Fixit becomes an official un-official addition to the Clay family, moving in with Denny and Russell. He’s extremely happy every time he’s referred to as family although he lacks a proper connection to them in terms of title (“This is Fixit! He’s family!” “So what, your uncle or?” “He’s family!”). Fixit is also on great terms with Russell’s mother, funny enough, they bonded quickly.  When they got to college, Russell and Hank, who recently transitioned, became roommates.
They’ve never been mentioned in this AU, but Optimus and Ratchet got married and went on a month long honeymoon vacation when everything was over that marked the start of their retirement until they were ever needed again. I don’t make the rules…except I do, and these grandpas need a break.
A number of the captured Decepticons were given revised trials and changed sentences after Steeljaw became a temporary part of the council. The more violent and likely to cause harm cons stayed, but ones with less malicious motivations were granted pardons under the guise of “being a part of the mind control plot from the previous council”, thanks to Steeljaw’s manipulation. This allowed him to free his previous pack team of Thunderhoof, Quillfire, Underbite and Clampdown as well as some cons like Fracture, reuniting them with their families and loved ones. In addition to this, Decepticons were given more rights in their government, granting them more job opportunities, resources to shelters for the homeless cons, and marriage and adoption rights (proper official ones instead of the shady ones they got away with for years).
After they awoke from their respective comas (a few days apart ironically), Starscream and Soundwave were told of what the High Council was trying to do in terms of trying to summon Megatron. After a very one sided conversation between the two former commanders, they both understood exactly what it meant when Megatron left them both behind, Soundwave facing the grim acceptance at last and Starscream slowly but surely taking a step forward to his own mental recovery by not pursuing his abuser for a satisfaction he might not even get. Once hearing about how there was elections for a new high council, Starscream went to run for an official position promoting rights for the Decepticons while also bringing Cybertron to equal footing in terms of alliances (essentially taking over Steeljaw’s temporary position), while Soundwave, true to his nature, worked by his side if only to make sure he wasn’t getting into trouble and was actually following through with what he was saying. The two do well to mark a significant change in the Cybertronian government system, and although neither knows this, Megatron is extremely proud of the two of them.
Steeljaw and Thunderhoof finally got a proper sit down talk about their relationship, thanks to Bee’s side assistance with helping Steeljaw understand Thunderhoof’s side of things. They decided to separate for a while, just to give each other a healthy amount of distance and time to figure out where to go from there. Six months or so later, they started meeting up again as friends and within a year start dating again, far happier than they were before.
Quillfire and Springload started doing the odd travel expedition together once Back and Forth became teenagers and could be left alone with the house for a few days without too much chaos. During one of which, they found an undiscovered ancient civilization, which to Springload’s mind was his long lost Doradus, much to both of their pure joy and happiness. The archaeological find gave the family enough financial stability that Quillfire didn’t have to always steal for Springload’s medication, and Springload was given enough credibility that he was hired to work with other history seekers professionally. Springload thanked Quillfire for all his support when they brought their kids back to see “Doradus”, and proposed to him (Much to Back’s excitement and Forth’s bemoaning about going to a wedding).
Underbite and Scowl do pretty awesome together. After being together for five years, they end up adopting a baby from Shadow Raker and raise him together (they choose to never get married out of personal preference). They raise a little one named Stomper, affectionately called Stompy, who’s as destructive and excited as his dads are. They love their little one, with Scowl acting as a stay-at home dad for the first few years before switching with Underbite. Scowl genuinely loves giving his son a chance to be whoever he wants to be in life, a choice he didn’t get to have growing up. Thunderhoof and Clampdown also have a tenancy to visit specifically to see the kid, both having a weakness for little Stomper, melting their hearts every time. It’s legitimately the only time where no death threats are made by Thunderhoof.
Clampdown is still as sneaky and information filled as ever. Never really locked down to one place, he’s just doing his own thing, gaining few friends and more people wanting his head. He’s honestly fine with it though. He’s looking out for himself in the best way he can, and he knows when life gets too hard he can always crash at one of his few friends’ places for some kindness and positivity.
Crazybolt and Slicedice, after being together for twenty five years, immediately got married when the law was passed. Slicedice bawled he was so happy, which made Crazybolt tear up, which made their employees wanna gag over how sickeningly love dovey it all was. They invited practically every con they knew, it was a fun time all around.
Vertebreak and Nightstrike pretty much never changed their ways. Kept being the murdering duo they were, only now they changed workshops every now and again. In addition, Wingcode started joining them upon finding out about her brother’s way of avoiding capture (“My boyfriend destroys the bodies for me”), much to both of their displeasure because, oh man, is she prideful. Not to mention acutely aware of everything they do, so they got interrupted a lot any time they wanted to be romantic.
Glowstrike, Scorponok and Saberhorn’s business got officially recognized and they started allowing Autobots and non-Cybertronian raised humans into the neighborhoods they owned. Media broadcasted this as a kind gesture ushering in a new era of peace and unity between factions, but really they stopped caring, money is money. Their relationship was good and functional until Glowstrike ended up collapsing one day, much to her partners’ immense fear and concern. After taking her to a hospital (a good proper one, thank you new laws) they found out she was pregnant with twins and that it will take a lot of her if she keeps them. This lead to a conversation the three weren’t expecting to have, with Scorponok worried for Glowstrike’s well being, Saberhorn worried about parenthood and Glowstrike worried about how this’ll change things for them. All of course, boiling down to the question of “do they keep the kids or not”. It took them a week after finding out about it to decide to keep the kids, under Glowstrike’s request to have a quick group marriage before they’re born and before she starts showing (because she refused to get in a wedding dress for that and she’d be damned if she couldn’t have a nice dress for her day).  They had two healthy little girls named Lightbreak (taking after Saberhorn) and Firestrike (taking after Scorponok), and Glowstrike (although grateful her daughters were born) had her husbands’ take care of the babies the most in the first week, wanting to isolate herself for a while after the whole ordeal before going into her full motherly duties.
Nightra and Scatterspike are happily in love. Neither rushing things too much, but just enjoying each other’s company to the fullest. It was very hard for her to say goodbye, but eventually Scatterspike did move out of the Scavenger residence in an effort to live with her girlfriend and pursue work in construction. She still tags along for the big scavenging trips in the winter though. Nightra keeps her work as being a thief, although she admittedly enjoys the pay she gets from the cops for tipping them off to some really nasty criminals she works with.
Paralon eventually gets gently rejected by Dragstrip after trying a proper confession (Dragstrip mostly was just wincing cause he’s pretty bad at reading these things in general), but wasn’t too worse for wear. He’s still got his ambitions to make a name for himself, so he started experimenting with his talents by trying a lot of different jobs. He hasn’t found anything in particular to pursue yet, but he’s hopeful.
Thermidor and Clawtrap are still as bickery as ever, and after Scatterspike and Paralon moved out, it got worse for a while. Being alone with each other for so long made them remember how much the other irked them, at least with the whole group they could avoid each other. It took a while, but eventually some of the other cons got fed up and forced them into a couples therapy-like session with Kickback (who considers himself pretty neutral with all relationship-like shenanigans he seems to get wrapped into). After answering in stubborn and snarky attitudes for majority of the questions, Kickback managed to sneak some truth serum (courtesy of Scatterspike and her experimental syringes) into their drinks, and they started spilling what they actually loved about each other. It was messy and embarrassing as heck, but it worked out in the end, and they could actually admit out loud that were dating.
The Corvicons are doing pretty alright for themselves. Filch has been doing really well gathering her shiny things to sell, but she’s also made formidable improvement with her customer service, becoming a favorite of frequent customers. Boostwing one day comes home with the proud statement of having successfully asked out his shiny friend from the scrapyard he visits (it was Kickback), and that motivated Jacknab to properly pursue Razorhorn (“He’s shiny to me! He’s really stupid shiny!”). Pilfer is perfectly content staying single for a while longer, amused by his brothers’ antics in courting.
Through a lot of emotional comfort and confiding between themselves, Shadelock and Roughedge started dating, Roughedge gladly being Shadelock’s shoulder to lean on on the hard days and Shadelock giving Roughedge all the love he deserves. Wildbreak cried when Roughedge told him, while Dragstrip just sighed heavily over his stupid partner being stupid.
After being worn down, Motormaster eventually accepted trying to fix things with Shadow Raker. At least that’s what it seemed, but Motormaster actually had a plan of faking it until he could reach a point where he could destroy Shadow Raker’s heart like he did to him all those years ago. Slashmark and Heatseeker avidly mention how stupid that plan was, holy shit, what a STUPID PLAN, but Motormaster is honestly king of stupid ideas so he goes to that dinner date an hour later than he should’ve been, watching Shadow Raker wait in the cold the whole time. Thing is, as the date goes on (and on, because Shadow Raker refuses to let the night end yet) both of them start picking up on facts from the other regarding that “betrayal” that separated them. After going to the warehouse in question, both tried to recount the whole event in detail and after a while, they figure out what actually happened was one of their mutual enemies set it up so while Motormaster got arrested, Shadow Raker would come out of hiding to save him and would lead to setting them both up for an assassination attempt, but there was miscommunication and Shadow Raker didn’t find out about the arrest until much, MUCH later, when the damage had been done. Motormaster lost it when he figured it out, and after smashing some things in the warehouse to vent his rage, started hardcore crying cause all these years he’s been hurting over hating someone he loved for something that wasn’t even either of their faults. Shadow Raker laughed through his own tears, cause he almost forgot how emotional his partner could get. They embraced and Motormaster really couldn’t understand how Shadow Raker could wait for so long for him, and he replied saying Motormaster was worth it, he was always worth it. They got back together, and in a little less than a year got engaged like they wanted to be since the war days ended.
As a result of the reunion, Motormaster told his team he was aware of their relationships (“Very, VERY aware”) and that they have his permission to be open about it and that he’ll stop wearing his own copies of their rings out of possession (Shadow Raker side commented it was to wear his own ring to which he was promptly cut off by an embarrassed Motormaster). The other Stunticons were ecstatic about not having to hide or lie or be apart anymore and they all went out to celebrate and as a result came out to their fellow cons. There was a lot of cheers/groans from the cons that had bets going on about them.
Heatseeker and Slashmark didn’t change too much in terms of their relationship, although parties and gatherings were a lot healthier for Slashmark, not having to bite his tongue or drown his sorrows in alcohol. And Heatseeker was more than happy to have his favorite person next to him. The group still continued to be pretend teachers to new generations of cons, however Heatseeker and Slashmark actually found that they really enjoyed being teachers and started going an extra mile with their jobs with some extracurriculars for the students that wanted them. In addition, with the new laws in place Heatseeker found himself motivated to making sure his students wouldn’t suffer in their youth like he once had, and any time he noticed one of them not having a consistent lunch or new bruises, he’d pull them aside and ask them what was up, and if it was bad, let them know about soup kitchens and shelters for the nights it gets too hard. In addition, if he knows their parent personally he’ll make sure to make their life hell cause “c’mon, is this how you want to go down in their life? As the asshole they want dead?”. Slashmark and Heatseeker also decide to show sympathy to their teammates and gave them their extra mattress in return for a week off of their after hour crime jobs. They used that week to have a trip to Cybertron, just the two of them and their homeland’s sights. They got married a few months after Dragstrip and Wildbreak did.
Wildbreak and Dragstrip actually managed to end up having some good luck for once. Their jobs ended up getting them more money; their quick work and (in Wildbreak’s case) good attitude got the attention of some of their employers and they got raises. They managed to get enough to move out of their shitty apartment building and into a better one without roaches or awful landlords, with a similarly small apartment, but now with a decent bed. They still aren’t overly fond with their teaching jobs, but they aren’t quitting those. They do, however, get into some new weekend jobs through their hobbies. Dragstrip got to test out new race cars thanks to Kickback, Crazybolt and Slicedice’s jobs, while Wildbreak would volunteer at Shadow Raker’s foster care to take care of the younger kids. It was weird at first, having separate jobs, but both enjoyed it enough to make it work out, still happy to come home to each other. After many years of consideration and consulting others on it, Dragstrip did eventually go to Vertebreak for top surgery, Wildbreak by his side as long as he could. His dysphoria was still present, but Dragstrip did find it worked out well for him, occasionally patting his chest every now and then in pride (Motormaster continued to provide his own advice out of mutual experience). He also stopped smoking since he had to two weeks prior to the surgery anyway (and Wildbreak never was fond of it, he noted). Wildbreak was actually the one to properly propose; nothing fancy or public, just the two of them having a simple candlelit dinner in their little apartment, with Wildbreak proceeding to list off all the things they’ve done in the years they’ve been together and how he hopes they’ll still have plenty of new adventures to come together. It was beautifully cheesy, cause Dragstrip actually wanted to propose to him the same gosh darn night and they both just kind of collapsed on each other laughing and crying over how stupid they were but if that wasn’t them, who knows what is. Their wedding was sweet and simple, and after of few months of being newlyweds, they started talking about potentially adopting a kid.
Thanks for reading everything up to now! I hope you’ve enjoyed :D
