Hi Weird Question, but how many followers would you ballpark say you have gotten from posting about qsmp?

I ask this because Ive been on tumblr for a LONG while, I have run multiple fandom blogs and this is the worst follow to notes ratio I have ever gotten for a blog (it is relativity new as well though). I don't want to sound weird and complain about the number of followers I have, but of the 523 posts in my blog, 38 are original posts. I have 236 notes total from those 38. and zero followers. compared to when one of my other blogs was at this size I would have somewhere of a ballpark of 10ish especially with a few posts chilling way above the average of 6 notes

I feel like this could be an issue much like the issue pertaining to people not reblogging stuff, but also I may need to reevaluate the way im interacting with people on this site >_<.

that's kind of a hard question bc i was gaining followers from the trigun fandom very shortly before i started posting about qsmp, so there was a period of overlap, but i guess when i switched to posting primarily about qsmp i would say i've gained approx. 350-400 followers. i typically get anywhere between 100-1000 notes on any qsmp post i make (excluding liveblogging) and i am apparently a more popular blog because i write fanfiction and make analysis posts on occasion which has made me weirdly well known in some places of the fandom and that is terrifying i hate being perceived HELP

ANYWAY i think a better blog to use as an example would be when i had to use a new blog because this one was unfairly flagged for a couple weeks. i used a previously unused sideblog to liveblog and make posts on since posts on my main wouldn't show up in the main tags. i typically got a fair amount of notes, anywhere between 50 to 200 on each post, but i only ended up with maybe 4 or 5 followers on that blog (excluding mutuals i had advised to follow that blog as a backup in case my main went down forever [which it didn't thank fuck]).

honestly?? i assume the lack of following is because a lot of people in this fandom are very wary. qsmpblr likes to hail itself as better than twitter (and it is in some respects for sure, i'm not denying that), but it feels like everyone in this fandom has some kind of Opinion on Something at all times. there's always something to complain about or criticize about anything, whether it be the admins, an event, another cc's character, a cc themself, etc etc. if you follow a person you will be subjected to all of their opinions on every single issue that pops up, even if it's just a dismissal of whatever current discourse is making its way through the tag (and i'm guilty of this myself sometimes, i'm no angel here). there is not a single day that goes by without something negative crossing my dash regarding something that's going on with the smp. doesn't matter what it is, someone will have something to say about some kind of issue no matter what, and that shit gets tiring. sometimes it's better not to follow people lest you find yourself bombarded with opinions. that way you can still scroll your dash without worrying about seeing untagged discourse and infighting and criticism.

My fandom’s main “shipwar” is between the canon m/f pairing and the non-canon but ten times more popular m/m pairing. I’m a multishipper and I like both, as well as the mmf threesome. So I don’t really have a dog in this fight, as it were. But one thing that continuously baffles me is how upset the canon m/f shippers get about the non-canon m/m shippers explaining why they don’t ship the canon ship.

The m/f shippers say because they never feel the need to mention the m/m ship on their posts, that the m/m shippers should not mention the m/f ship on their posts. But I think those are two very different circumstances. Like, of course there’s no reason to randomly bring up a non-canon ship when making meta about a canon pairing. The baseline assumption in most fandoms regarding transformative works is “like canon, unless noted” so that would be superfluous and feel targeted. But when discussing a non-canon ship, especially one which requires the canon ship to break up, I think, naturally, due to the same principle, those non-canon shippers are going to lay out what they personally don’t like about the canon ship, and why they think the non-canon ship is better.

I guess, what I’m saying is, I’ve always seen putting up with a lot of different people not liking your pairing and complaining loudly about it as part of the price of having a canon ship. In all the other fandoms I’ve been in, the canon ships have been almost universally reviled, and the handful of people who do ship them don’t seem all that surprised by all the meta that exists from non-canon shippers about why the canon ship doesn’t work. They just find solace in the fact that their pairing is the one that gets onscreen kisses, and seem adept at ignoring the haters.

But in this fandom, the canon m/f shippers act like anyone voicing dislike of their ship is a personal attack. And they frequently write rant posts about it, to the point that I have a hard time following the m/f ship tag, even though I ship it, because I’m tired of it being full of people complaining about the m/m shippers (of which, I am also a member).

To some extent, I understand the canon m/f shippers’ frustrations. The fandom tag is basically unnavigable without running into untagged content for the non-canon m/m ship. And there is unfortunately a swath of the non-canon m/m shippers who are rude, exhibit harassing behaviors, and harbor misogynistic attitudes toward the canon female love interest. Which I’ve called out multiple times on my blog as unacceptable. But one of the canon m/f shippers referred to simple meta discussing the media through the lens of the non-canon m/m pairing as “gaslighting”. And I just don’t think that’s a fair interpretation.

While there definitely have been bad actors on both sides of the “shipwar”, I don’t think just saying “I think the dynamic between the non-canon pairing is more interesting and well written than the canon pairing, and here’s some scenes from the original media that showcase why” on one’s own blog is an act of “ship hate” or “gaslighting” or contradictory to the principles of Ship and Let Ship. It’s just an opinion based on a different reading of the text.

I suppose my question is, do you think its contrary to the principles of Ship and Let Ship to explain why you personally don’t ship a pairing (assuming you’re not harassing or insulting the shippers of that pairing)? And why do canon shippers act like it’s an act of malice for other people to voice that they don’t like their ship for xyz reason?

Season 4, Episode 2 - Mensonge (Lies)

Welcome again. I had been logged out from Tumblr for the whole weekend, because I was afraid of untagged spoilers, as I've seen one screenshot here accidentally, fortunately it wasn't spoilerish. And I've watched the Lies today. Again without reading other's people opinion about the episode, so I probably write things that have been said before.

I enjoyed it more than Truth. But not because it's better written, I think the overall quality of both is similar. Lies is about characters I care about more, so it's natural that the episode is automatically more interesting to me. I dislike both Luka and Jagged (to be fair the only member of the Couffaine family I like is Juleka) and that would be hard to make me caring about them, the best thing I could say about any of those characters is that I tolerate them on screen. Sometimes. Don't get me wrong, Truth was the best episode for Luka and Jagged, but they are still dull and/or annoying to me. Creators need to develop son-father relationship more to make me interested in it, that arc was too shallow in Truth.

But the post is about Adrigami episode, not Lukanette one.

I'm surprised that we got only one not very long scene with civilian Marinette. But not surprised that she's still pining over Adrien. Just like Chat is pining over Ladybug. As I'm keeping saying, it's not gonna change. But really, Marinette thinks that Adrien's life is perfect? She should know that tight schedule could be a big problem and has she forgotten what terrible father is Gabriel? Of course she doesn't know details we know, but she should be aware that he isn't as good parent like her own. So probably her enamored brain can't see bad sides of life of her loved one. She still can't think rational when it comes to him. Another reason why she should stop putting him on a pedestal. We need some friendly Adrienette so badly, we need to see Adrien telling her more bad things in his life. He isn't used to complain, but I think he needs to tell someone the truth about his family life. I hope Marinette will be that person.

I had been tired of clown Chat in Truth, but this episode lets us to see the situation from his point of view and now I understand more why he behaves like that. I think that he tries to hide from Ladybug how much he miss spending time with her that way. He is aware that's because of her new responsibility and he doesn't want to make her feel bad for it. Those scenes were so sweet. How much Chat wants an Akuma to appear just to see his lady. Not very noble, but I can't blame him. It only shows that Adrien is a normal human being. We all are selfish from time to time and it's healthy (you only have to find a good balance, being as selfish as Chloé and as selfless as Luka is not good).

Geez, why they can't put the right title of the piece? That's a different composition than that one used back in season 2, but the smartphone's screen says the same. And none of them is actually Raindrop Prelude. This is Raindrop Prelude. They are not even any of Chopin's preludes. I won't be surprised if both are not Fryderyk Chopin's compositions either (although I haven't heard all the solo piano pieces composed by him, so I can't be sure). I love classical music, so I'd love to know what pieces Adrien's playing! By the way, I recommend to listen to all of the 24 preludes, they are usually very short but interesting compositions. If you're too lazy to listen to all, check out number 20 at least, that's a pure, very atmospheric, beauty. One of my favourites melodies ever created.

I have always thought that Adrigami has more chemistry and it's generally more entertaining to watch than Lukanette (sorry stans, but you probably don't even follow me and read my posts,  there's a reason why I'm warning that my blog is not Luka and Lukanette friendly in its description). I feel that in this episode as well. Absolutely it's not a perfect relationship and it can't be, as Adrien is still into Ladybug. It's clear that Kagami is the one who really cares, Adrien is more distant. It seems that he's abashed of Kagami's physical intimacy, like he can't be open to her when he's still in love with Ladybug. That was really sad to hear Kagami's words that she's lying to be more often with him and he lies to not spend time with her. But relationship can't work if only one side is invested in it and they both need to learn it. They have some things in common, I like how they spending time together, so I'm sure they would work much better as friends. I'm sorry for Kagami and I wish her a better boyfriend who would love her truly. In some way it was a repeat of Truth, as we've seen Adrien leaving Kagami all of sudden, because of Akuma's attacks, but this time it's not as heavily portrayed like it's not working only because of superhero responsibility, that I didn't like in the previous episode. Another reason why I liked how Adrigami is shown more.

I really, really loved that we've learnt something new about Kagami and that's amazing it's something I have in common with her. I'm really surprised, since she didn't seem to have an artistic soul before. I also love seeing she likes draw animals, it's like me, I'm trying practise it. I enjoy drawing animals (and creatures like Kwamis or Pokémon) more than humans. But at the same time I feel angry at her mother. How could she dare to say that Kagami isn't good enough? Trying to kill a child's hobby is always unforgivable. She's much better than me (I'm a little jealous, but that's not the first time when a teen has much better skill than me), but my family and some others I know in real life often say that I'm talented and some people try to convince me to take pay commissions. That’s me who knows the best than I'm not skilled enough to take money for my art (they don't know really good artists in person and they don’t draw themselves, so no wonder they are not aware that my works aren't that good they think). Maybe some day, but not now, so I only enjoy drawing gifts for others. I'm also got interested in a real French artist she mentioned - Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and I've seen some of his works. Very good for Miraculous for mentioning artist like him, I have never heard about him before, but maybe French students learn about him in school.

Seeing Adrien making Chat's pose was hilarious. I'm sure it's food for true selves trope supporters, but I also agree with Kagami that both model poses and Chat's poses are not ALL Adrien poses. He's more than that. That seemed like he has problems with being natural when he's on the pressure. He's learned how to make model poses, but I also think that when he is in full clown mode is also an act. But that's a mask which he has putted all by himself. In which he tries to be as much different than his public image as he can. Of course being dorky is also a true Adrien side, but not all the time. Being just a cute and polite boy is also true him. It seems that Adrien is not aware of it.

Marinette's lucky charm bracelet is an akumatised object once more. That and the fact she was asking him what he was doing on the boat tell us that Kagami probably think that Adrien is in love with Marinette (it could make also her wonder what stop them from being together if she knows that Marinette likes him as well).

I also liked her reaction to imminent breaking up more. It's more human reaction in my opinion. Some anger, but not too much. She says she doesn't want to see him for a while and that's completely understandable. Adrien has broken her heart, so she need some time to take care of herself without being interrupted by him. I'm going to say something that could be seen controversial, but in my opinion her attitude is way more healthy than Luka's. He still waits for a girl who clearly likes another boy much, but she's trying to really give up on him. And I would like to see a scene in which she says him that Marinette is not worth his waiting, he should be open for another love instead. Uff, I was really worried that they might kill Adrien and Kagami characters. But nothing really bad happened in the episode between them, everything was in-character. Of course salters will still find reasons to hate Kagami, they can say she's possessive towards him (that's true to some extent, but I think it's not really toxic, as she's still cares about his true feelings).

I need to say that Lies is the worst S4 Akuma design we've seen till now. Riposte and Oni-chan were much better. Also the battle was the worst part of this episode in my opinion. It wasn't completely bad, but it felt somewhat boring to me. I definitely enjoyed fights against Truth and Furious Fu more. The thing about that I liked the most what how they made use of Fang.

So the season 4 version of Chat Noir's transformation theme is exactly the same they used in the Shanghai special. It wasn't obvious, since Ladybug's one is a different one than that in the show. I noticed that that Ladybug's theme feels more like a new composition which only uses parts of an original version, while Chat's is clearly "just" an arrangement of the theme we know since season 1. Maybe that's because it's supposed to symbolise that she has even more responsibility now, as she's the Guardian as well. Chat's role hasn't changed that much as hers. I also think the new arrangement sounds cooler, it's more electric guitar-driven. I can't wait to get any of the episodes in which there's his transformation sequence with 5.1 audio to rip it.

All three released episodes are nice for Ladynoir a lot, their scenes are all sweet and wholesome. It almost feel like Ladynoir is close to happen. But I feel that's just calm before the storm. Marinette hasn't reached to her worst moment yet. I'm sure Ladybug will have more breakdowns like that in the season 3 finale.

Three episodes aired and I'm not amazed by any of them. But I don't want to be salty, I'm not worried about that. That's true for season 3 as well, I enjoy the second part of the season more as well. It's important to save the best episodes for later. And I have never expected that I would love all the S4 episodes, despite of pre-release statements, it's impossible. I'm not disappointed. Yet. Just give me some Adrienette food. Please.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1) The Pink Flamingo - 107,745 words, ongoing 2) The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - 11,082 words 3) Water's Edge - 5,852 words 4) Life After - 11,535 words 5) Love Over Gold - 15,784 words These are all Glorestor and totally unrelated to one another. There's Erestor, Gildor's son, who runs a brothel, Erestor, the half Avarin refugee, Erestor who is, well, Erestor, Erestor the captain of the Imladris garrison, and Erestor who was a mer-elf. And yet his core personality somehow stays the same, even when I’m not trying. Glorfindel, to give him his due, is a bit less changeable, which tends to be a relief.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not? Yes, of course! I love the interaction and if someone liked a fic enough to leave a comment, even ‘I liked this’, I’d feel rude not responding to it (and chat a bit if they like). I mean, we complain bitterly about the low comment count, so.... Sometimes I take a while to get there and end up feeling damn guilty.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I don't do a lot of genuine angst, there's too much of that on the evening news over here... I'm more fix-it  --- maybe Brothers or Star's End (not sure how you'd define Star's End really - Arwen dies?). And there's The Boys of Summer which is about the Fifth Battle, so obviously angsty. I think that one wins.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? Secret Garden has deliberate echoes of The X-Files and that's as close as I get to a crossover. And Love Over Gold answered a prompt asking for a story based on a fairytale. Which it is. Loosely. Very loosely.

Have you ever received hate on a fic? No - bullies often sense when not to bother. I've received some really odd comments, but I'm just brief and polite back.

Do you write smut? If so what kind? If the scene/story calls for sex, there is sex. Do I write smut for smut's sake? Once or twice but it's not really me because There Must Be A Plot (I am annoying that way, I make Red grit her teeth)

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not a whole fic (that I know of) but a scene. It was my first fic and a very popular writer who was struggling to finish a longish work needed filler and ended up lifting and only slightly rewording a scene that had no real context in her story - she presented it as a family interlude. We had never spoken. What we had in common, however,  was a beta (who was her close friend). I didn't challenge her. I was a complete unknown, after all, and still finding my feet, but when I hear of this happening to people I am enraged because I know that angry, helpless feeling too well.

Have you ever had a fic translated? 4 languages that I know about. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Red Lasbelin (@diamondrust) and I did one in our early fandom days called All Night Long. Plus we did mirror versions of a story: This Shadow/Like A Shadow.

What’s your all time favorite ship? You think I'm going to say Glorestor, don't you? I love them, I write them a lot, but my first love is Erestor/Gil-galad. I think I first wrote them about 14 years ago and I keep wandering back. I love how they fit. Second choice would be between Glorestor and Idril/Tuor.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? It's called Times Passages, it's set in the 1970's, elves through history. I would have to rework a few things there because my ideas have changed a lot over time, but I did love working on it. Not posted on AO3, I would need to finish it first.

What are your writing strengths? Worldbuilding, dialogue, descriptions, maybe pacing. And it might be last minute and nerve wracking, but (with two exceptions) I finish what I start. Sometimes there are tears.

What are your writing weaknesses? I write in bursts, I'm not good at a sustained slog. I am terrible at coming up with fic concepts for challenges, that is literally pain to me. Battle scenes.  And god, I can be wordy!!

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Only if the point being made is that the protagonist a) doesn't understand what's being said or b) it identifies a newcomer's origins.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? I wrote but never posted X-Files. It was pretty bad tbh.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? Dunno, I only have two fics posted that I actively dislike. I love Sanctuary  and Dog Days, neither of which got much attention but I had the best time writing them. I'm proud of Another Future and Boys of Summer (that fic was a tyrant and took to waking me up at night with ideas). Secret Garden was my first real attempt at conspiracy/horror  ---- But I'd better say Pink Flamingo or it will be offended and turn on me! Never piss off the WIP.

It took me days to put this together. Don't know who's still untagged so really - if you want it, take it and run. Curious to see people's answers.

Yeah thank you I deleted the original post cause I just. I don't like to talk about things like this on my blog and I don't want to sound like an asshole or like I'm complaining and honestly still working on the self esteem to stand up for myself but yeah I'm going to post this cause I do actually need to stand up for myself and I can't get any peace of mind rn knowing I didn't say anything and anyway yeah like I said please just stop stealing my ideas particularly ideas from my brothers corrupted, my brother's keeper, and experimenter anti and barely crediting me or not crediting me at all like I said I try to be proud of how widespread my ideas are and how much people mimic me but really it just makes me upset and uncomfortable and I never call anyone out and. Starshine                Ch. 60     Jimmy Page          Fan Fiction

The band and crew and wives flew out to Germany in mid - November. They had two weeks of dates scheduled in three different cities. Jimmy had made sure 

that Jill would be well taken care of, avoiding any exertion to her body. 

Once landed, they were all driven to the gorgeous hotel. A high quality, high service, glorious old fashioned hotel. Jimmy and Jill had a huge suite, huge living area room. After everyone had gotten comfortable in their rooms, the band and their wives congregated in a huge common area in the main floor of the hotel. They ordered some foods to try along with various types of German beer, to go along with the other alcohol they had brought along. All were sitting around the big table.. It was dimly lit and a touch of spookiness in there. Darkly stained wooden walls with taxidermized animal heads hanging about. Deer, fox, rabbits, wild foul. Gave a light chill to the décor. Some how the subject of ghosts and spirits took over the conversation. A few real life stories were told. All were getting a little spooked. Percy asked Jill what had happened to her parents, since he knew they had passed on when Jill was about 18. She had never mentioned much about the details, but now, she felt more comfortable to share it. She had known them all for about a year now. And there was plenty of closeness. Jill had met Jimmy right after Thanksgiving the year before.

They all tossed back a few brews. She began to explain to the group, that when her mom was still alive, before the accident, Jill and her Mom had an on-going chronic argument. It was about the fact that their mom coddled Jill’s younger sister. Jill complained that her parents were just so lenient and easy to squeeze money from, for her younger sister. Any whim that struck Hannah, their parents would be steps away agreeing to it and ready to fund it. Jill complained that, they were not this same way with herself when growing up and that they needed to change their ways. Needed to harness the open flood of leaking cash from them to Hannah. Her mom argued, “Well, we’re getting older now, and what if we don’t have that many years left. Why not use our money to provide fun for our girl ??“ 

That’s when Jill came out with the sentence she currently regretted . It was :

Jill : Well,…. if you only have a short while left on this planet, then why would you spend your time wrong ?

A day later, Jill received a call telling her that her parents had been killed in a traffic accident. She was in complete anguish. To top it off, her last conversation ended rudely between herself and her mother. No “I love you.” Just snarky comments. 

Jill continued

Jill : Ok. So about 2 months later, I was alone in my apartment. And I was thinking.about the last conversation I had with her. I was reliving it in my mind. I would hear it playing in my head, her part of the words. Then I would speak out loud, my words, reciting my part as best I could remember. 

 Just as I was reliving my last line, I was also sitting down into my chair at the table. So, while saying “do you want to live your last year wrong ?“  At that exact second, I landed into the chair, my hair got entangled on a latch on the door behind me. It yanked my hair so hard that I saw stars from the pain. When I looked at what had grasped my hair, there was actually a tuft of my hair, pulled out, stuck in that door latch. A segment of my hair had been torn right out. And it hurt like hell. My thoughts immediately went to - that was my punishment for saying something mean like that to my mother. Either she personally pulled it, or maybe someone else in the afterlife did. As payback for my rudeness to her.

Clare : Holy moley. You just gave me chills with that one. 

John Paul : Yeah me too. 

Linda : My hair is standing on end.

They were all seated at a long table with bench like seating. 

Jimmy just stared with his mouth partly opened, in awe. With a knitted brow and with troubled intensity.

Jill : Jim ? Are you okay ? 

Jim : (tuning back in to reality, suddenly.)  Oh, …yeah. Yeah. I just never heard you mention that event before. It’s totally intriguing. And especially since you nearly never speak about your parents.

He put his arms around her and held her against himself and kissed her lips and the side of her face.

Jill : I’m aware of that. I don’t like thinking about it. Or talking about it. I just don’t.

Jim : There’s nothing wrong with that angel. Whatever feels right for you.

Jill : Thanks.

Jimmy used his other hand to press her head against him and kept kissing her forehead and side of her face. She loved his sensitivity and caring. She absolutely adored him. He made her feel so protected and loved. 

Percy : Ok then !  Anyone have a funny story ? 

Bonz : At the farm, we have a goat. It’s totally crazy, but this goat has become seriously attached to the dog. The dachshund !! They follow each other around, have become utterly bonded like soulmates. Ginny doesn’t care to mingle with the other goats. It’s a sight to see, so funny, ya know. 

As he continued, Jimmy whispered to Jill, “Babe, do you want to go upstairs, lay down for awhile ?  Or possibly off to sleep for the night, girl ? It’s been a long day for you, my love.”

Jill : Yes, I need to. I’m thankful you’re watching over me. 

Jim : Yes, I’m doing the best I can.

So they said goodnight and headed for the elevator to their suite.

Once in there, he helped her get undressed and into a nightgown. He put her into the bed and covered her with a warm blanket. He got his clothes off and turned the lights off. Only the light from the fire in the fireplace lit the room. He lay down next to her, snuggled up against her, kissing her face. Placed the blankets around himself too. It was so warm and comfortable, they were both fast asleep within moments.

hey, y’all, so ik I mostly just stick to my own corner of Tumblr and I only have the vaguest clue of what’s going on beyond that, but just like...a quick reminder of what the Defense Squad is and is not? (disclaimer/caveats/w.e at end of post):

Is: defend Tony when ppl pull out factually incorrect stuff, especially if/when people start getting personal. Like historically, there was a time when being a Tony fan was so bad and we had to caveat with “yes we know he has flaws, but I still love him anyway” as if it were something we had to be ashamed of and Realize Was Wrong, and not just unabashedly like a fictional character?? And the defense squad was original pushback against that, like “yeah he’s got flaws, but so does your fave and that’s not a reason to tout your moral purity against ours.” Please do pick your battles, though, most of the time people are not going to change their minds just because someone came at them on an opinion they had. And also, like..........I don’t want to say “please watch your tone,” but please don’t get personally offensive? I just feel like that’s a good guideline in general, it’s lowkey not helpful if you call someone names for their opinions, even if they’re wrong on facts or whatever. This ain’t social policy we’re discussing, they’re fictional characters and fictional worlds. Real actual human beings still rate higher than “defending” a fictional character.

Is: defending other Tony fans if/when people are dogpiling on them. This was also historically a problem, although I think (I hope) it’s less so now? But honestly it’s hard to tell unless someone posts about it/posts asks, but also hopefully this is somewhat the purpose of the squad. This does NOT meant “going after whoever is doing it,” it sucks sometimes when you’re reacting to have to moderate your own reactions, but continuing cycles doesn’t help.

Is NOT: “the best defense is a good offense.” Guys, please don’t go in the anti tag picking fights. There’s no need to “be proactive” about this. As long as they’re keeping their stuff away from the Tony tag, like, you literally cannot control another human being. That’s not how that works. Also, make sure you’re in the TAG and not the search, do NOT go on people’s untagged posts. It’s their own blog, they’re allowed to post their opinions or vent or whatever. Also again please do NOT call ppl names, pls it’s tempting and I get it, and for Tony fans we’re So Tired and it’s easy to make the most recent person who shits on Tony the representation of every single person we’ve seen in the past forever and have had to personally experience and handle emotionally, but in most cases they are just a single individual with their single opinion and not a conspiracy out to get us all.

Like, whatever I’m not going to go after each person individually who doesn’t follow these guidelines, I’m not the fandom police or your parent and I really don’t want to be. And like yeah Who Am I To Lay This Out, I’m just one person, my idea of what the defense squad is and isn’t maybe isn’t yours, like I feel like I was lowkey one of the OG members but clearly this has grown beyond us. But like...please do be aware that if you go way too far about “defense,” then you put people off of Tony, RDJ, this segment of the fandom (i.e. Tony fans), etc. Some of you (me included) might have this experience with certain parts of the B/ucky or St/ucky fandom, for example (especially back in the day), (and if not then whatever this example doesn’t apply to you), just like...please be aware?

I’m just making this post because it pains me to talk to people who aren’t in the greater Marvel fandom or even see posts around complaining about Tony fans but making complaints that I’ve had with other Marvel-adjacent fandoms that get way too zealous and put me off the character or ship or whatever.

Your recent (and fabulous) meta masterposts reminded me I wanted to ask you for advice in linking other people's meta to your own meta, specifically: is there any sort of etiquette when linking meta that isn't yours, particularly if you've never really talked to the original writer before, and the meta you are writing can be viewed as wanky/not a popular topic of discussion in fandom? Is tagging them optional or an unspoken rule? I would like to avoid stepping on anyone's toes ifpossible Thnx!

I’ve had it hammered into me to always cite sources, and I think that is true in fandom with meta. I do see it as a body of academic work, if very loosely and conversationally. Like… rogue academia being accessed by everyone. End result is still an enormous collection of written work. And in that case you should show fair and square what you’re talking about if you’re staring a new post and not replying. I think linking is always important unless you’re at the most grumbly dotposting vagueblog part of complaining about wank. (I complain about wank this way a lot as a way to vent and show I know about something going around fandom and here’s my 1 line opinion but I don’t wanna get involved :P)

I think it’s very contextual about tagging people in meta though… If they seem open to discussion and their original post was low-wank for the subject (e.g. not screeching about something, or showing obvious angry feelings you’ll never overcome such as character or writer hate that the root causes are too deep to rationalise with in 1 post about what is just a tangential topic to the wank) then I would tag. I’d link to say this is informing my own post and I’m not arguing or tearing things down. I think a lot of the problem in fandom is people assume if you post a reply, it’s, well… a riposte or something. 

I got caught out by it recently replying in the bubble under a post I saw on my dash in the SPN meta tag - the reply I got was assuming I was attacking and defending, while I’d read their tone as quite mild and not hate-filled, so I offered an insight on the thing in the spirit of cross-fandom unity, and was surprised to realise they thought I was defending, which drastically altered my tone into seeming to suggest all sorts of things I hadn’t meant or considered… I forget that no matter how many smilies you cram in to try and look friendly, if people are on the defence from certain things, there is no way to project your chill personality into their life >.> 

(I am now aware I’m vagueblogging but I plagued that poor person’s replies way too much trying probably unsuccessfully to clear up that confusion that I am super chill and read critical meta all the time as a hobby without taking personal offence, and at this point I’m too embarrassed to go back or tag them here :P)

Another thing is if you link their meta, try not to make your meta look like a point by point tear down, but just something informing your thoughts - if you break down every reason you think they’re wrong, it’s going to look rude if you tag them or don’t tag them, no matter how chill you try to be. I try to do this sort of thing by explaining my point of view on a thing by going back to the start and offering my own explanation for the situation or analysis based on things I think, and it’s okay to leave out parts of their stuff you don’t agree with if you can’t weave it into your positive explanation.

I also try really really hard to address all things positively - start as many meta posts as I can with “I love” or “this interests me” or “I would enjoy conversation on this” or other phrases to try and convey you’re making something constructive and for your own enjoyment, or reply to asks with positive affirmations about what they say even if you have some other contrary thoughts. Introduce contrary meta only after putting a positive buffer in rather than introducing like “I have some shit to say” :P Talk up whatever you can that you agree with and makes positive ground, and try to see the other side first before explaining your own… The old Here’s Argument A, I think Argument B, here’s my conclusion which concedes all interpretations are valid but I do still like B better and it fits into my world view more neatly. That sort of thing. I mean I’m not consistently good at this because when I’m tired or grumpy structure goes out the window (sentence, paragraph and essay :P), but when I try and put my thinking cap on, full positivity about everything is my watch word.

Anyway if you try to make your own post as gentle as possible towards the wank, it means tagging someone in it can more clearly be seen as a courtesy towards crediting their idea and offering another opinion which you can clarify you know this is what they think and you’re not demanding they change their mind, but here’s my post about it, thanks for the step up with your post :P 

But yeah, I am a bundle of social anxiety so I tend to tag probably less than I should. That meta post I nearly sweated myself dry worrying if I should tag the OP of the other bi dean masterpost (I did in the end) because I’ve never talked to them, and it did look like stepping on their toes, even though it was something I’ve meant to do for ages, and was fundamentally different to theirs by having a lot of meta back and forth and collections of wide-ranging essays rather than a join the dots through canon like theirs, which is a much easier post to show people for the specific answer to “why do you think Dean is bi” rather than collecting up what I’m interested in fandom… *and that one wasn’t even at all wanky* :P

ANYWAY I think it is rude to link or mention someone’s meta and then do a tear down. I think it’s rude to tag someone when you’re mostly just complaining about their post or only writing to disagree with their concept, and I think it’s pointless to tag anyone who looks like they’re just snap back or block you. I *don’t* think that you shouldn’t ever tag someone you disagree with, as long as you can be constructive and kind. I’ve seen untagged posts with meta disagreements that could have been perfectly civil and not rude IF they’d tagged, because the actual content of both posts seemed to be a fairly constructive discussion, if only they’d been courteous to why they were writing their counter. Of course discovering you’ve been vagueblogged at is never fun and it turns you into the strawman or object of ridicule. I think tagging someone and knowing there’s a full chance they’ll read  what you say even if they will disagree SHOULD be a good incentive to write politely and civilly but then on the wide internet that is not a very common courtesy >.>

This is gonna be a long post so read it or don't So during my spring break I went to canada with 2 of my "friends" from hs and it was a good trip for the most part until haha I got injured. So I was staying in vancouver but on the last full day of my trip we went to Victoria. So victoria is about 5 hours from where I was staying, 2 hours to the ferry, 2 hours on the ferry, and then another hour to Victoria Anyway skipping to the actual part of the story. While I was in victoria I fell on an escalator and the sharp edge of the escalator ripped through my skin. When this happened I rushed to a restroom as fast as I could and gave friend 1 my stuff to hold. So in the restroom I was trying to get the blood to stop and it wouldn't so I asked some woman to help me. She ended up getting first aid for me and later asked if I was with anyone. I told her I was and gave her the description of my friend She comes back and GUESS WHO WASN'T THERE. NOT MY FRIEND BECAUSE SHE FUCKING LEFT. So I'm there in the restroom getting first aid and crying because looking at the injury literally made me burst into tears. But the first aid guy told me "I think I did a good job cleaning it up so when u go back to America u should go to the hospital if u think you're gonna get an infection" oh btw that was some shit advice, just go to the hospital Anyway after about 20min in the restroom I leave and find that friend one isn't fucking there but friend 2 is. So when I see him I ask where the fk she was, and you know what he tells me??? That she went to the fucking RESTROOM AND WHEN SHE HEARD SOMEONE WAS GETTING FIRST AID SHE DECIDED TO GO TO ANOTHER RESTROOM BECAUSE YOU KNOW SHE REALLY HAD TO PEE. And I was pissed off and told him "You know I WAS THE ONE GETTING FIRST AID" he says "yea I guessed but she said she really needed to use the restroom" So yea i was fucking pissed off but then omg it gets better, for some fucking reason they decided to sit on high chairs when I literally can't even bend my knee or let it relax without wanting to cry. Anyway so friend 2 asks if I'm hungry and tells me I should eat something. As if I DIDN'T JUST HAVE A TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. Anyway I'm just so annoyed that I decide to sit at a different table so I can actually let my leg lay on something instead of hanging in air. And he later comes over to ask if I want him to sit with me and I say no. Later I hear shuffling around me but no one speaks to me. I find out that one of them PUT MY STUFF NEXT TO ME. I'M LITERALLY CRYING TO MYSELF AND FOR SOME REASON THEY THINK THE BEST THING THEY SHOULD DO IS LEAVE MY STUFF NEXT TO ME WHEN THEY COULD EASILY HAVE HELD ON TO IT. anyway so we have to get back to vancouver so we had to take the bus to the ferry, ferry to vancouver, then a bus to the train, another bus after the train and then walk up a 10min hill While on the bus for some reason friend 1 thinks that EVERY FUCKING STOP IS OUR STOP. OUR STOP IS LITERALLY THE LAST STOP AND THE LAST STOP IS A FUCKING FERRY PORT AKA THERE'S A FUCKING BOAT THERE. And her excuse was that "it's dark I can't see" Anyway while on the ferry I'm using a wheel chair because I just can't fucking walk. Anyway while on the ferry friend 2 asks if I want anything from the cafe and I pause to think about it and before I even say anything friend 1 says "I'd be down for a coffee" like ???????? And friend 2 just says "u know I was asking her (aka me)" AND YOU KNOW WHAT SHE FUCKING SAYS??? "I mean I knew u were asking her but she didn't answer and I'm down for a coffee" But wow it still gets better. While on the ferry my gauze starts bleeding through so im certain it's a lot more serious than what the first aid guy told me. So I go to the first aid on the ferry BY MYSELF because the friend 2 is in the restroom and friend 1 has to watch our stuff. However I do tell them to come find me (haha guess who never fking came) Anyway the first aid office was a fucking horrible experience. The guy didn't try to help me at all and the only thing he did do was give me a lecture on the importance of travel insurance and essentially told me I was stupid for not getting it. Anyway I have to go back to my friends but they aren't whee I thought they were and I started wheeling myself around the ferry. After awhile friend 1 finally finds me and tells me I should've checked my phone BECAUSE THEY MOVED. AND DO YOU KNOW WHY THEY MOVED? BECAUSE FRIEND 2 WANTED TO TAKE A FUCKING NAP so anyway after we get off the ferry we had to get to the train and we had to take the elevator up to the platform and they have the fucking audacity to tell me "at least we get to ride an elevator cause your injured" LIKE WHAY THE ACTUAL FUCK???????? okay so next part we get off the train and we have to find the bus stop. But guess what it's 2 blocks away and they can't fucking navigate. Anyway so we finally get to the bus stop and I just can't. If we take the bus we have to walk up a hill and I just can't do that so I want to take a taxi. But u know what the bitch says??? I CAN GIVE YOU A PIGGY BACK RIDE I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT OR ANYTHING BUT IT MIGHT MAKE UR KNEE WORSE. LIKE WHAT THE FUCK??? Anyway I'm fucking adamant about getting a taxi but there weren't many stopping on the street we were on. So I told them to ask a person and guess what, they literally argue who should be the one to ask. Him: but you're a white girl, u seem less threatening (btw this kid is a little Mexican boy like u are not threatening) her: yea but I'm so awkward LIKE IF IT WAS EITHER ONE OF THEM WHO WAS INJURED I WOULD TALK TO SOMEONE IN A FUCKING INSTANT NO FUCKING DEBATING LIKE WHAT THE FUCK. anyway so friend 2 ends up asking the guy but it was useless cause the taxi service wasn't answering. Anyway I see a taxi stopping and ppl leaving so I tell her to go tell the taxi driver to come...however she tells him the wrong street and we have to walk 2 blocks oh and btw the taxi isn't even there and she says "omg I feel so bad for the taxi driver cause he's losing business" and I'm literally limping to get to this taxi that's not even there and she doesn't even ask if I'm okay. Anyway once in a taxi (I found another taxi because those two are fucking useless) she tells the driver the wrong address. THE WRONG ADDRESS. Ok so once back at the bnb the place is a mess but I just can't, I want to pack my stuff and go to sleep because I just fucking can't deal with them. Oh but guess who makes me clean up the next morning??? Yea, them. Anyway so im just going to fast forward to the airport. While I'm at the airport the gauze is bleeding through again and it's been about 15 hours so I know it's definitely a lot more serious than I originally thought if the bleeding isn't stopping this many hours in. So I get paramedics and they tell me I should go to a hospital in canada but it's also going to be 800 JUST TO SEE A DOCTOR and an additional couple hundred for the actual medical help, the taxi to and from the hospital, and the hotel I would have to book so I decided to just go home Anyway in the actual airport the guy asks me to buy his breakfast (and everything else for that matter because he lost his wallet and had no money) and then tells me "I'm so hungry cause I didn't eat breakfast " guess what. I asked him to make breakfast but he said he didn't want one cause he didn't want to do dishes (Oh btw I had to do their dishes when I woke up) Anyway so the girl was flying out to somewhere else so she left first. And she was snapchatting me COMPLAINING ABOUT HER DAY. and when I told her I had to go to the hospital she responds "That sucks. " Anyway once i landed I check my phone and GUESS WHO TOLD ME SHE WAS HAVING THE WORST TRAVEL DAY OF HER LIFE BECAUSE SHE HAD TO WAIT IN A LONG LINE??? THE STUPID BITCH so anyway I was pissed off and it took me 2 hours to even get home and once I was home my parents took me to the hospital (while also telling me that the reason I fell with because I'm fat and that my fatness caused me to be unbalanced) So continuing with the story I go to the hospital and I got staples in my knee to keep my wound from opening up again. After I go to the pharmacy and I'm home friend 2 messages me asking if I'm okay and how my hospital visit was But guess who doesn't even try to contact me or ask me how I'm doing? You guessed it. So I'm just mad and really unhappy so I decide to mute my notifications on my hs group chat so I just don't have to see her or talk to her. Oh but guess what she emails me telling me how shes coming down to where I live and that she wants to hang out. And I don't respond and after 2 weeks of me ignoring her she messages me saying "wya" In a span of 2 weeks she hasn't once asked me how I was doing Anyway I get fed up with her and her complete disregard for my wellbeing AT ALL so I unfriend her on fb and untagged myself from all the canada posts she's making. Guess what she does? SHE REFRIENDED ME AND POSTED NEW PICTURES OF ME, OBVIOUSLY NOT GETTING THE POINT so I don't accept it and a couple of days later I decide to just leave the gc because I muted it anyway so what's the point of staying in it when I dont want to associate myself with her at all anymore Guess what? She messages me the next day harassing me saying she deserves an explanation. And I just don't respond because there's nothing to say. She doesn't even realize what she did wrong and I just can't with her. If you don't understand what you did wrong u never deserved my friendship in the first place. But lol IT STILL GETS BETTER. the next day she messages me telling me that it's unfair for me to be excluded in the group chat and that I shouldn't lose my hs friends because of it. Like what?? I don't understand how she thinks my friendship with them is over because I left a group chat. Additionally she tells me that we should behave like mature adults and not fight in the group chat. Guess what? I did not once bring it up to the group. Even when they asked I didn't say why because I honestly don't care if they want to be friends with her. Because I'm actually a mature adult. If she starts talking shit about me to the group I really don't care. If they really don't understand that I have my reasons and take her side then we shouldn't be friends at all either. She also sends an additional msg telling me that she's sorry that I think she's a bad friend and that she doesn't understand why I think that way. In that message there was no "I'm sorry I was a bad friend" it was a "idk what your problem is because I'm a good friend" additionally, she isn't reflecting at all and can't even fathom the possibility that she did something wrong. So yea but haven't responded and I won't respond because I don't need that in my life. This was a really long post started crying again and I'm tired so im going to sleep. Good night
