the only real anti/ pro shipper “conflicts” i was around was l*rry from on* d*rection and sterek from teen wolf which were like entirely different stratospheres so idk that i can have a general opinion. l*rries were harassing real people and abusive to people who pointed that out, and i would call myself an anti bc they were straight up impacting the lives of real people. sterek anti’s were just like... mad a teenager and not teenager were dating which is valid but they went also went above and beyond to ship both characters w women so that might be another issue too. i really think whether i think antis or pro shippers are valid or way too involved depends on the fandom
i also think there’s a difference between antis like “the way this relationship is often portrayed in fandom is problematic” vs “you are moral failures for enjoying the idea of these characters dating” which also impacts my opinion
yeah, time and again saying no good fandoms just good friends lol. like i think if ur doing the whole “glass cupcake” shit you are Out Of Your Mind. but i also think telling someone to like. off themself because they’re drawing wincest or whatever you are also kind of a fucking freak no matter how weird you think that is personally
and i mean. the internet is full of stuff that makes me uncomfortable but i also learned really early to get comfortable with blocklists and tags and stuff ?
ngl tho, i see a lot of the old ship discourse and stuff coming up on places like tiktok and twitter, which are horrible places for tagging/blocking, unlike forums, or ao3, and, to an extent, tumblr
EDIT: mb, adding this on bc rereading the second part of this ask reminded me of this !
i recently saw this post by a japanese mlm living in japan (and i will try to find it once i get access back to my twitter after getting mad abt queer experiences getting fetishized lol) who talked about the term ‘fujoshi’ and how it’s often actually used as a misogynistic term against a lot of women and queer people in japan who get into fandom and kind of “stereotypical” art as a way of inserting themselves into queerness and finding self realization, so that we should consider cutting it from our language, and that made me think a lot, bc that’s kind of what i did, and i would feel bad about shaming someone over something i also did lmfao ?
just a thought
