Chapter 16.5 - Confessions and Cars 2
I thought I'd post this as a "I'm sorry" chapter lol and I felt like you readers needed some closure.
While writing this, I also realized that I do not know how to write a kiss (due to my non-existent love life)...so if someone has suggestions - I'd gladly take them :D
TAG LIST IS CLOSED
If Arthur thought that visiting you last November before you signed a Red Bull contract would somehow end up with you in his arms, he wouldn’t change anything. Back then, you had been his best friend. And, well, you were still his best friend, but he was hoping that soon (like tonight) you’d be more.
The end credits of Cars 2 played on the tv in the dark room. Most of the drivers (including but not limited to Lando, Oscar, Lewis, Daniel, Pierre, Charles, and Max) – maybe all of the drivers, who had come to visit you after your release from the hospital, had all left by now. A completed Lego Porsche 9-11 sat on the little counter by the basic coffee machine.
Now, it was just you, whose eyes were slowly drooping, and Arthur, who hadn’t been able to take his arms off of you since you got to the hospital in the first place.
Arthur, who had held you hand as the doctor put an IV in, because he knew your fear of needles.
Arthur, who had extra hair ties on his wrist, because he knew you hated to have your hair on your neck right after races, no matter what.
Arthur, who had called ahead to the front desk to specifically ask for a copy of Cars 2 be delivered to the room.
Arthur, who ubered your exact McDonalds order because you mentioned the craving once while you were still under some strong pain medication.
Arthur, who was your best friend, but you honestly wanted to be some more.
Your brain had been running a million miles since your car flipped into the barriers.
“Are you ready to go to bed yet?”
But his voice, was able to stop all thoughts.
You only let out a sigh in response. Arthur didn’t want to rush you, so he just picked the remote up and started your comfort movie over again.
Yet, you didn’t want to watch the entire thing over again.
“I was scared.”
Arthur immediately paused the movie, but kept his eyes in front.
“I watched the sky cross the opening. And then it just, hurt.”
His arms tightened around you. Yet, it wasn’t painful.
“I blacked out for a while. And then when I woke up, all I heard,” you turned to look at the boy in your arms, “was you, calling for me.”
Tears started forming in both yours and Arthur’s eyes. You shuffled a bit closer to him, getting even closer.
Arthur took a deep breath.
Hours before, he was ready to confess it all once you had gotten your first place trophy. He had it all planned out. But then, his world stopped the moment your back tyre clipped the first kerb and then you rolled.
“Y/n,” he started. This time, his eyes met yours. The TV forgotten in the background. In this moment, Arthur was glad that everyone else had left.
You waited with baited breath, urging him silently to continue.
“Well, I had this big plan, for after your race. And now, sitting here, I just know one thing and one thing only.”
You cocked your head in confusion. Yet, your heart was wanting him to speak the once sentence you’ve wanted to hear for forever.
“I love you. And when you didn’t respond,” he took your hands in his, “I wanted to die. And I know that might sound extreme, but at that moment, I knew I didn’t want a life without you in it. I also know that we’ve only known each other for a little more than a year but…”
You decided to interrupt him. “You’ve been my best friend for the majority of that year.”
He nodded with you, heart a bit dejected since you hadn’t confessed right after.
“I’ve never had a best friend, before you. And, I also couldn’t imagine a life without you. And Thur…”
He didn’t let you finish.
His lips met yours in a fervent kiss. You had to take a second to reel in your thoughts, but you kissed back. Because in this moment, you didn’t want anything to change. A large exhale left your nose.
You were hungry for a race win.
Arthur was hungry for your love.
His hands moved from holding yours to gripping your sides. And well, in true Arthur fashion, he gripped a bit too hard as a hiss left your lips.
His wide eyes looked right at your with concern. “I am so sorry.”
And before he could start to ramble in broken French, you pecked his lips. Well, that shut him up.
“It’s ok,” you whispered, trying to convince him. “And I love you too. Maybe a bit too much.”
Arthur sighed in relief and pressed his forehead against yours. “You do not know how happy that makes me to hear.” His words were a bit jumbled and his accent was heavy, but you got the gist.
“What now?”
Maybe it was your fears and doubts, but if this changed things, you’d rather not continue. Because you’d rather be best friends than lose him.
Arthur shut his eyes, smiles, and cocked his head. “I was hoping you’d be my girlfriend.” He gave you another sweet kiss, one that you reciprocated with a smile.
“Well then,” another kiss, “ask me.” A smirk replaced the smile.
Arthur leaned back and took your hands back into his and sat up straight. “Y/n?”
You let out a giggle.
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
You quickly pressed up against his face. Not in a kiss sense way. More like, you missed and just smashed your face against him. He tried to keep you upwards, but you pushed him down and fell on top of him. Another hiss left your lips, but a laugh covered it. You gently rested your head on his chest as your attention was back to the movie.
“Yes. I will be your girlfriend Mr. Leclerc.”
Arthur just let you snuggle back into him as he played the movie for a second time. Just as Mater was about to be reunited with Lightning McQueen, a thought suddenly crossed your mind.
“What are we going to tell Max?”

I rly lov your long posts about Deidara specifically, but Im curious as to why (and maybe Ive just not read everything you've written) you mention Deidara as joining the Akatsuki at ages like 12-13? Because I feel like it's been pretty well stated that Deidara was recruited at 15. Which still, he's quite the prodigy, but iirc he was Sasori's partner of 4 years and canonically died at 19 which would mean he was 15 at the time of his recruitment, no?
Hi, anon, I did talk about it previously in reblogs to one of my posts (the one about Deidara and Obito prefering to hang upside down), but I'll explain it again.
Someone already commented that "it's been stated he was Sasori's partner for 4 years", however, when I asked for an actual reference to something in canon indicating that, I got no reply. My assumption is that this is some sort of popular headcanon in the fandom that's so deeply embedded into people's minds that at some point people just start saying that "oh, Deidara was partnered with Sasori for 4 years" even if nothing in canon is stated in regards to this. Again, if you manage to find a confirmation of this claim in canon, send it my way, I'm just stating that I did not see anything proving this to be true besides tumblr users saying so.
(and I do not consider anime to be canon, mostly because of the fact that they changed stuff from the manga to fit the endless fillers + taking stuff from anime means wrecking an already shaky timeline of Naruto world that exists purely off the fans' prayers and wishes + I never made myself watch the anime fully because I like to have other interests besides Naruto, so I am less familiar with it and looking for a single line confirming some fact in 600 something episodes of endless yapping and terrible pacing sounds like hell, so to me the only things that can serve as a proof are from the manga itself or the databooks, both of which were done by Kishimoto)
but back to Deidara's age at the time of recruitment - him being 12 is actually also a presumption of mine, but it's simply because of various factors. off the information available to me, we can not directly state that Deidara was exactly X years old when Akatsuki came for him, but we can get the range for his age.
Strictly speaking, the upper boundary for Deidara joining would be 16 years, and it's due to the last scene of OG Naruto where we see Akatsuki having a secret meeting with all of the members present. Deidara is undeniably there (the hairstyle and speech pattern of the member hanging from the ceiling matches his), so by that point he's already a full-fledged member of your local terrorist daycare. However, what is interesting about this scene is what Deidara says
Tumblr media
(Viz's translation is being weird again, but as far as I remember, this is another case where in the original the subject of the sentence is omitted, so it actually should be something like "we'll finish off Orochimaru soon" and "will we be able to finish our tasks on time?")
in any case, what's curious about this scene is that Deidara seems to be fully aligned with Akatsuki's goals. This is not a boy who didn't want to join the organization because he wanted to do his art on his own and was forced to join after losing to one its members, this is a guy who is fully interested in whatever the hell Akatsuki had going on. So even if technically the upper limit for Deidara joing is 16, I would say that a reasonable boundary would be 15 - Deidara is far too comfortable in the organization during his first appearance to be a recent hire, so I'd say that he's been with the gang for at least a year.
Now onto the lower boundary for Deidara's age at the time of recruitment, and for this we'll need to use that scene itself
Tumblr media
Again, because nothing is known regarding Deidara's time in Iwa (in the databooks some shinobi get their age when they became genin/chunin, however Deidara doesn't fall into this category either), so the estimates would have to come from the other three in the room, namely Sasori, Kisame and Itachi.
Sasori isn't really useful for this due to the fact that his nukenin career started an entire year before Deidara was even born (LMAO), Chiyo claims that Sasori returned 10 years later to kill the Third Kazekage (but I call bullshit on that, because this creates a plethora of timeline issues, so probably another Kishimoto moment), but none of that helps us with figuring out when Sasori got recruited, how long he spent in organization, etc etc.
Kisame's got even less information (except, you know, the times when he was doing the murder exam, and again, that was way before Deidara was even born), so not much use of him either.
However, Itachi has a lot more to go off. Obviously, if he is present in this scene as an Akatsuki member, this means that this takes place after the Uchiha massacre. And what we certainly know about it is that Itachi was 13 at the time. Itachi and Deidara have a 2 year age gap, meaning that the harshest lower boundary that can be imposed on Deidara in the recruitment scene is 11 (we can not go any lower, otherwise it's impossible for Itachi to be present).
That is if we assume that Itachi joined Akatsuki and immediately went to hunt for Deidara.
Which we know is not true, because the entire conflict with Orochimaru (who is Sasori's partner at the time) takes place. After the Uchiha massacre Itachi run away from Konoha, joined Akatsuki, got partnered with Kisame (off that flashback before Kisame's death it's not really clear who joined Akatsuki first, Itachi or Kisame, but nonetheless that scene had to have taken place before Deidara recruitment), had his conflict with Orochimaru, Orochimaru ditched Akatsuki, leaving Sasori without a partner, thus creating the need for replacement. And remember, Orochimaru did not return the ring after voluntarily resigning (without the organization's HR department's permission, of course), and again, these rings allow members to seal Tailed Beasts within Gedo Mazo, literally the most important thing about Akatsuki, so, in my opinion, some time would have to be spent by Akatsuki trying to (unsuccessfully) chase after Orochimaru and beat the shit out of him for stealing the company's property. All in all, some time would have to pass between Itachi joining and Deidara joining.
However, what speaks against this period of time being long is the way Akatsuki operate, which is pairing two people together. Sasori was left without a partner, and while I don't doubt that he is more than strong enough to do mass murder on his own, the suicide statistics in nukenins born in the Second Shinobi World War or soon after it speak for itself, so a replacement would need to be found fast, which is why I don't think the period between Itachi joining Akatsuki and Deidara meeting the gang would be longer than a year - can't leave Sasori hanging by himself, and nothing suggests that Sasori had other partners in between Orochimaru and Deidara, which is why I say the lowest age at which Deidara could have joined is 12.
So, to summarize, in the recruitment scene Deidara's age would be in [12; 15] range, if we are doing it with reasonable assumptions based off the canon interactions, but based off characters' presence alone it would be from 11 to 16.
However, there's more in regards to Deidara becoming a nukenin!
Tumblr media
This moment here confirms that Deidara is already a terrorist by the time Akatsuki find him. He is not being stolen from Iwa, he has already run away and, moreover, he's been assisting insurgents for some time. And, what's important, he's doing it on his own, meaning that he had to work up a reputation for himself as a nukenin (otherwise insurgents wouldn't have worked with this random kid). Which implies that some time must have passed in between him leaving and meeting Akatsuki. Again, nothing concrete, but I wouldn't say that this period could have been less than a year, which means he would have been like 11-12 by the time he ditched Iwa.
Which is. Jesus. Even during the World Wars kids only become chunins by that point. I'm not even talking about the Naruto's "peaceful" generation.
And I remembred one final thing that also makes me believe that Deidara was younger than 15 during his recruitment, but it's a lot more shaky and biased. I'm talking about the way Kishimoto draws him in this scene
Tumblr media
The main cast of Shippuden is exactly in this supposedly confirmed range (15-16 years old) for Deidara, however when I take Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura/etc etc, I just don't see Deidara being the same age as them in here. He looks younger, closer to them in OG Naruto than in Shippuden. Nonetheless, this is my personal opinion and perception, and Kishimoto is pretty inconsistent at drawing characters in their supposed age (probably because he himself has no idea how old his characters are in this or that scene, lmao), so that's the weakest argument I have for my position.

whats good gamers heres. a fanfic. i wrote this on a whim and there is no title. ive also never published a pic before
otto octavius x gender neutral reader
takes place after the events of No Way Home
(reader is gender neutral but theres a slight mention of makeup, nothing else tho)
-
Otto looked in the mirror at himself, finally seeing a changed man. He still had the actuators, remnants of a distant mistake. Since then, he had travelled across the multiverse and received the help he didn't know he needed. He was able to return home and pay his dues, his time in prison wasn’t exactly a highlight of his life, but it was far above his personal rock bottom. He spent three months there, before being released.
Then, by some miracle, Columbia University offered him a job. They were willing to overlook everything he had done and hire him as a professor. Having the chance to shape the minds of the next generation was an honor, and he truly gave his all to his job. He had done so well, in fact, that he was currently staring at himself in the mirror when he was meant to be getting ready for a faculty gala. He was nominated for Professor of the year, and he was already overjoyed. To even be nominated for the award was more than he could’ve dreamed of, after everything.
His eye was drawn to the doorway, and he saw the real reason he had changed. You. You had been there with him through it all, after it all went to shit, that is. You met him at his worst, and by some miracle you were still here.
You looked absolutely elegant in the flowing fabric of your outfit, perfectly tailored to accentuate your frame. Dressed up and ready to go to the gala that Otto had briefly forgotten about in his little daydream.
“What’s with that look?” You ask, approaching him with a tie in your hand. “Are you overthinking again?”
Otto lets you mess with his collar and wrap the tie around his neck. Your gentle fingers manipulate the fabric into an intricate knot he couldn’t dream of tying. He watches the way your wedding band glints in the harsh bathroom light. He hadn’t thought he could have this again, not after Rosie, but here you were, getting him ready for his big day.
“Not overthinking, my dear. Just thinking,” Otto smiles. “What kind of knot is this?”
“It’s called an Elderedge knot, I googled it about fifteen minutes ago,” You giggle as you finish the knot. He loves that sound. “I just thought it might be a nice touch.”
Your hands begin to retreat, but Otto takes one and places a kiss right onthe knuckle of your ring finger. He watches your face begin to flush as you smile.
“Thank you, my Dear,” He says as you turn away from him to lean over the counter beside him, looking closely in the mirror. He just watches you, taking in your microexpressions as you scrutinize your makeup. After deciding it was sufficient, an epiphany seems to strike you.
“Oh! I forgot one thing!” You quickly stand up straight and look at Otto. “Stay here.” Just like that, you’re out the door.
Otto waits for your return, wondering what you could possibly have up your sleeve. Your head pops into the doorframe a moment later, but nothing else.
“Turn around. And close your eyes!” He does as asked, but the actuators are still looking at you. “All of them, smartypants.” He obliges and turns the actuators away from you.
He hears you approach, and then he feels you fiddling with the ends of his actuators. Again, he wonders exactly what you’ve planned.
“Aaaaaand… Ta-Da!” Your hands gently usher the actuators into his field of view. Your arms wrap around his midsection, and it’s only a little awkward that the bases of his actuators are in the way. You’ve both gotten used to it by now.
He opens his eyes, and when he sees the actuators again, their ‘heads’ are adorned with… little top hats and bow ties. He can’t help the snort that escapes him. You gently tap him on the chest and murmur into his back that he can take them off if he wants to.
Oh he wouldn’t have this. He steps away to face you, taking care not to nudge the accessories off, and takes your chin in his hand. Your eyes look into his, and he can’t help but take a moment to appreciate just how elegant you look tonight.
“They’ve never looked better,” He whispers as he leans down. His lips capture yours in a sweet kiss, only lasting a moment. As he pulls away, he plants a peck on the tip of your nose. He watches the way it scrunches as you let out another giggle.
“Thank you, my love. How long until we should head out?” He asks, remembering that he is, in fact, on a time crunch.
“Oh shit!” You pull away, grabbing your phone from the counter and checking the time. “We have two minutes to get our asses out the door. Hustle!” Your voice trails behind you as you leave the room to finish getting ready.
Otto takes one more look in the mirror, making sure to pay extra attention to his fancy tie.
Even if he doesn’t win the award tonight, Otto’s more than content with the life he’s made for himself. Especially with you by his side.

Alpha Toji x Fem Omega Reader
TW: A/B/O, Omegas are treated as property, Black market selling of Omegas, Slight yandere Toji, Reader is purchased, Omegas are kept in cells, Use of feeding tube, Use of sedatives, Use of the word bitch (once)
Tumblr media
Toji listened to the voice mail once again taking in the information. It wasn’t the type of job he usually did, but it paid well and would be pretty easy. All they wanted him to do was to help make sure a shipment was delivered safely for 1.5 million yen. Although the cargo wasn’t specified it must be pretty valuable to offer a payment of that much, he figured it was some yakuza dealing. However, he had been having a little dip in jobs and he figured that it would be nice to just make some easy money. He called back and let them know that he would be at the given location at said time and he expected half the payment upfront before he transported anything.
Toji showed up a bit early to inspect the area and building. It seemed just a small café, but he was sure there was more to it. The number of people he sensed didn’t match up with the size of the building that he could see, it was probably a fake storefront to act as a cover to deter cops from the underground dealings of the really going on. He entered the café at the set time and was quickly greeted by a short, older, beta man who led him back through a side door and down a short hallway. The man knocked on the door,
“He’s here.” He called out hesitantly.
“Send him in.” a voice from behind the door responded. He opened the door and motioned for Toji to enter before closing the door after Toji had entered the office, sealing himself out of the room. Toji looked around to see three alpha men and two beta men. The head alpha was sitting behind a big desk, the two beta bodyguards of either side of him. The other two alphas were seated on a sofa to one side of the room. There was a briefcase on the desk and the alpha sitting behind to opened it up and turned it around to show Toji that it was filled with money. The first half of his payment to be exact.
“It’s all there” the alpha stated, pushing the briefcase closed. Toji stepped forward the took it, stepping back after doing so.
“So what am I transporting?” Toji questioned. The Alpha behind the desk stood up and nodded a little in understanding.
“Of course you’d need to know, allow me to show you the cargo you will be transporting.” The alpha walked past Toji, opening the door and motioning for Toj to follow him down the hallway. The other three alphas who had been previously sitting on the sofa got up and followed. They stopped at a door a little further down the corridor. Once opened, the door revealed a cement staircase that led down into a basement type area. Toji could sense multiple people were down there.
He had a hunch of what this might be, and his suspicions were confirmed when they descended the staircase and into a prison of sorts. Multiple cells were containing one person each. It was an illegal omega trading ring. A nasty business where the Yakuza ran, where they sold kidnapped omegas over the black market. Toji was fairly against the practice, but he really didn’t care enough to do anything. The four of them walked past the various cages, each of the omegas seemed to be in various states of being. The alpha who was leading the group stopped at a particular cell. The omega contained inside was sitting on the bed dressed in a white summer dress. The man turned to face Toji motioning to the captive girl,
“She is being taken to the person who bought her, and he is a very high profile client so we decided to call in someone else to assure that everything would go perfectly.” Toji nodded.
“Once you have delivered her please return here for the rest of your payment.” Toji found it odd that he would be going alone but he really didn’t care, and so he agreed. The omega was let out and she followed Toji silently. He could tell that they had broken her spirit, and just about turned her into a submissive doll. Her scent was tainted and Toji quite frankly, found it gross.
The delivery went incredibly smooth with no issues from any outside party, or the omega. After dropping her with the correct person who would later deliver her to the man who had purchased her, he returned to the café where he had picked her up earlier. Toji didn’t wait to be greeted, instead, he went right down into the basement where he could smell the alpha from earlier. He walked past all of the bars again, the smell of the omegas was starting to get to him. It was almost suffocating. He found the man standing outside of a particular cell watching a beta hang an IV bag full of some gross looking paste kind of thing. Toji noticed that the tube connected to the IV led into the omega’s nose. You were sleeping, but he could clearly see the way it was taped to the side of your face and running down into your nose.
“What’s that for?” Toji couldn’t help but ask, slightly intrigued by the omega and their smell.
“Oh” the alpha startled a little, “The bitch is high quality but she refuses to eat or be compliant in any way for that matter, but we have to keep her fed due to her value, so we use a feeding tube,” Toji grunted, continuing to watch as the beta finished putting the bag in place and walk out of the cell, locking it behind them. “If you wait a moment I’ll have someone grab your payment-” the alpha started but Toji cut him off,
“Can I go in?” The alpha paused before starting,
“Sure. She’s sedated right now, so don’t worry. She’s a bit of a biter sometimes.” The alpha instructed the beta to unlock the cell. Toji stepped inside and made his way to the small cot in the corner where you lay asleep. He gently brushed the hair out of your face, taking in all of the features, running his finger along the feeding tube taking note of how unbroken you smelled compared to the rest of the omegas in the surrounding cells. He could feel his inner alpha falling for you. He had never felt this way for any person before, and he wasn’t quite sure he liked it, but couldn’t deny it either way. Before he could think about the words coming out of his mouth, he blurted,
“I want to buy her.” His face showed just how deadly serious he was to the alpha on the other side of the bars.
“She’s not ready to be bought yet, she’s still too resilient” The man explained. Toji had to hold back the irritation he was feeling,
“I don’t care, I want her just like this, I’ll pay whatever you want” The man paused before slowly nodding his head. Toji’s inner alpha was doing flips with joy at the thought of being able to hold and claim you.
That day Toji carried you sedated out of the cell and took you home. He had also decided to take the sedatives and bags to paste that then men had insisted he took to assure the best possible outcome. Toji wanted to make you fall in love with him through his natural alpha power and his innate love for you, not with mind games and torture that would break you and ruin your wonderful scent.
“Don’t worry ‘Mega, I’ll make sure you love me.”

The leader and a body guard(Rin x reader)
(Sorry this took so long, school sucked all of my motivation away. You can find the rest of the series here: Eloni )
warning: violence, slight angst with a happy ending
Sometime after the rock revolution, Neon J decided to leave for a 3-week vacation
This meant that you and your coworkers would need to report to Rin
The first couple of days were difficult because Rin didn’t seem to care about the reports and would flirt with whoever was giving him the report
It wasn’t till week two that things began to spiral
1010 had been in the middle of a performance when a fight broke out in the crowd
You jumped out of where you were standing to help control the crowd
You assessed the damage after everything calmed down
The venue + stage was partially destroyed, Purl-Hew lost his glasses and an eye, Haym lost an arm, Zimelu and Eloni’s faces were cracked, and Rin was missing
Rin was missing
This was bad news as the factory still hadn’t been repaired yet which meant that he couldn’t be brought back until Neon J came back
And if Neon J found out that you lost a member of 1010, you and your co-workers would be fired
So your group split into two parts, one half would take Zimelu, Haym, Purl- Hew, and Eloni back to Barraca Mansion while the other half would search for Rin
You were placed into the latter
It had been nearly an hour since Rin was discovered missing and there still was no sign of him. You were definitely going to get fired. While the concert was in Cast Tech, you along with several others were sent to search Metro Division in case he simply went back to Baraca Mansion without telling anyone. You were about to head back when you heard the sound of crashing metal.
“Hello, is anyone there?” You didn’t mean to say anything, but you were caught off guard. Against your better judgment, you began to walk towards that alley. You were desperate to find him after all.
“Stay back! RETREAT!” shouted a panicked autotuned voice. It was Rin.
“Rin? Is that you? Are you ok?” you rushed down the alley to find Rin hiding next to a dumpster.
“Don’t look at me!” Rin was trying to cover the right side of his face with his arm.
“What? Are you alright?”
“Y-yeah! Do not worry about me, I’ll make it back fine,” Rin tried to stand up, still covering his face, but immediately fell back down because his leg was missing.
“Look… everyone’s worried about you and you won’t be able to make it back by yourself with that leg,” you gestured at Rin’s broken leg. Please let me help you, I know some shortcuts.” You offered your arm. Rin hesitantly lifted his hand for his face and grabbed your hand for support. The metal that covered the right side of her face was gone, revealing the damaged hardware underneath.
You involuntarily flinched, he may not have been human, but it was still pretty jarring to look at something that looked like a person who was missing part of their face. Rin also flinched, covering his missing face with both of his hands now.
“I’m so sorry about that”, you rubbed your neck, “I just… well I didn’t expect the injury to be that bad.”
“You aren’t going to scream, are you?
“What? No, I'm very sorry about that. Besides I’ve seen way worse” you joked, trying to release the tension. Rin hesitantly uncovered his face once again and grabbed your hand and pulled himself up. The two of you dodged the groups of people walking through Metro Divison.
As the two of you were walking through, you couldn’t help but wonder about Rin’s reaction when it suddenly hit you, 1010 got severely injured during the rock revolution. One of these injuries included all of them losing their faceplates. Their fans unsurprisingly freaked out which caused 1010 to explode due to some protocol Neon J must’ve implemented. Your heart sank when you realized Rin’s reaction wasn’t because he was worried about his image, but he was scared of you screaming and what would follow afterward.
——————
After that incident, Rin seemed to act differently towards you. He took you more seriously and listened to your reports
Even after Neón J came back, Rin still came to you for your reports
Probably just practice for when Neón j retires, you thought
As the weeks passed, the time spent on the casual chats you had increased to the point you’d forgot to give him the actual report several times
“And that’s how we got Quienne and Bebe.” Rin had just finished telling you the story of how they got their cats by Haym and Eloni smuggling them in through a box. This was one of many of the 'behind the scenes stories' that Rin had told you. While they didn’t act that much different when they weren’t on camera or in front of a crowd, it was nice to be trusted enough to hear about their personal lives.
“So what about you?”
“Hm?”
“Do you have any good stories? I don’t think it’s fair if I tell all of my secrets after all~.” Rin teased
“Well, I do have one. I was at a dance audition and waiting for my turn to perform and this dude that was performing was pretty much a circus act. He was doing all these frontflips and backflips and it was just crazy. Wish I had recorded it.”
“You used to be a performer? How come you stopped?” Rin curiously asked.
“Nah, I never made it past the first round of auditions. I didn't really mind since I only entered to support a friend.” You sipped on your coffee
“That’s a shame.” Rin paused for a moment. “You know I could always offer you lessons.”
“that's really nice, but I’ll have to decline. No amount of practice can fix these two left feet.” You looked at the clock, realizing half an hour had passed. You quickly said your goodbye and left to avoid getting into trouble. Rin watched your back as he left, unsure why he couldn’t take his eyes off you.
——————
Rin was walking to his dressing room when he saw you walking alongside several other security staff. As rude as it sounded, Rin normally wouldn’t think twice about the people he worked with. Most staff would either quit from being harassed by crazy 1010 fans or get fired for secretly being 1010 fans who used the job to get access to 1010 content, or worse, 1010 themselves. Rin shuddered as memories of one of the many incidents came back. Rin could count on both of his hands the amount of current staff that has been working for over a year and you were one of them. Rin began to think about the early part of his career when he and his family would actively engage with the staff, talking about both of their personal lives and inviting them over to hang out in the mansion. He and his brothers stopped interacting with the staff after the high turnover started. What was the point of talking with them if they were going to quit and avoid 1010 like the plague or get fired and be avoided by 1010 like the plague. He was glad that he could talk to you. He also liked the sound of your voice and how your eyes sparkled brighter than the LEDs that lit up him and his brothers. Rin blushed at the last thoughts. The sound of your voice and the sparkle of your eyes? It’s not like he was in love with you or anything. He was technically your boss and your relationship was completely professional. Yeah, your interactions were one of his favorite parts of his day and your smile would always brighten his day, but even if he was in love with you(which he is not) there’s still the challenge of gaining the approval of his family and having to deal with his fan’s harassment. He couldn’t let you go through that. Though Rin couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to talk with you outside of work…even go on a couple dates… maybe he was in love afterall.
——————
You walked past Rin and smiled. Despite your attempts, you fell for Rin's charm just like his fans did and it took you no time to notice this. You knew you were never going to say anything, afterall, everyone knows the rule about not dating coworkers and Rin can choose practically anyone, why would he pick you?
——————
It was the first concert after the rock revolution
The fans were extra antsy due to the lack of content, so it was all hands on deck
You were positioned on the front of the stage
This concert was no different than the previous ones, 1010 were performing, a couple of their fans attempted to jump on the stage, and you could barely hear your own thoughts over the mix of music and cheering. Suddenly both of those stopped. You looked at the stage and so 1010 standing still in mid-performance. You were told about this situation during training: it was either a malfunction or a hacking. You prayed that it wasn’t the latter. 1010 suddenly began to move in sync, but it was different from their normal in sync movement. You saw two fans get tackled to the ground as a red saw blade passed them at what would’ve been chest height. Your radio buzzed loudly as you were given your new orders:
“Get everyone out of there.”
It was chaos as you rushed around to get everyone out of the venue. Those with superhuman abilities(pyrokinesis, levitation, etc) stayed behind to prevent 1010 from leaving the venue. Despite not having any abilities, you stayed behind too. You were running around in the back looking for anyone who still might be there when the rubble from an explosion behind you knocked you to the ground. You quickly got up and saw Rin towering over Neon J. Without thinking, you quickly grabbed a nearby pipe that came from the newly busted wall and smashed it over Rin’s head. This managed to stop his attack, but it also brought his attention to you. He suddenly ran towards you, grabbed you, and threw you against the wall. Your consciousness began to fade in and out as your head collided with the wall. You saw Rin approaching you, then darkness, Rin raising his arm to strike, darkness again, Rin being pulled away by Neón J, darkness again, the inside of an ambulance, and then nothing.
——————
You woke up in a hospital room. Your eyes scanned the room: on your right was a monitor accompanied by an IV drip. On your left was a small table with flowers, a get-well balloon, a couple cards, and a Rin with a worried face sitting on one of the chairs of the room. Rin noticed you were awake and quickly rushed before stopping unsure of what to do.
“Y/N” Rin said, unsure of what to do or say
“Rin”
“Y/N… I’m so sorry about what happened- I didn’t want to-I couldn’t stop- if there’s anything I can do to make it up to you-” Rin began to stutter out of guilt. He kept making sentences but giving up on them and starting new ones.
“Rin, please” Rin paused and looked at you. “It’s not your fault, I know you would never do this” the two of you sat in silence for what felt like an eternity before you continued, “You know... if the offers still up… I’d be happy to accept those dance lessons when I get discharged." Rin began to smile
“Yeah, the offers still up”
——————
Neon J walked through the hospital’s halls. For the past two weeks, he had been personally escorting Rin to your hospital room. He knew Rin felt responsible for your injuries so he didn’t object to this despite the possible security risks(he couldn't keep his boys locked up). He had heard from Rin that you had woken up and he was glad that you were ok, but he had to cut your visitor time short due to an interview that all 1010 members must be present for. He walked into your room to find the two of you sleeping with Rin’s head on your lap.
“It’ll be fine if Rin misses one interview.” Neon J thought as he closed the door. He also began to wonder how long it will be before Rin introduces you officially to the family.

hey Adrian 👀👀👀 ive seen this on a few other blogs so uhhh, what would the TTO RO’s dying words be to the seer or their words to a dying seer?
Thank you for indulging me with this, even though I am full of regret because I actually managed to make myself sobby while writing it. So much so that this is actually only part one since I needed to break from writing part two (the 'RO reactions to Seer dying' part) due to emotionally exhausting myself. Oops. 😂 I'll reblog this with part two once I get it finished 😘
Prepare for pain!!!
RO's dying words to the Seer
Mira: Whatever pain they may be in physically, they don't show it. Instead, they hold the Seer with all their remaining strength. If this is to be their end, they will do their damndest to comfort their lover before they go. They keep their gaze locked, watching Seer like they hung the moon, and smile as best they can. "You carry enough burdens, love. Don't let my memory be one of them. This was my choice." They close their eyes as their consciousness starts to slip, not wanting Seer to have to watch the light leave them. "I love you. Always. I love you."
Nova: They are calm, almost eerily so. But then again, it's not the first time they've lost their mortal life. Instead, they lean into the Seer as if memorizing their warmth, closing their eyes with a wistful sigh. "I wish we'd had more time..." Then, almost as if an afterthought, they reach to lay a comforting hand against their lover's jaw. "Do not make that face, sweet thing. This is hardly the end." Even as their body starts to dissolve into smoke, they keep smiling, so very sure of their words. "Until we meet again."
Stella: They're angry, resentful, raging at the universe and this bitter, bitter end. They try desperately to hide it, to somehow make this last moment with the Seer easier. To minimize the scars it will leave on their heart if they can because they know how much it hurts to watch someone you love die. But any comforting words get caught in their throat, and all they can do is hold on, furious tears in their eyes. It's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair. "I love you. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I love you."
Désiré: He's panicking, not because he knows this is his end, but because he fears he won't be able to tell Seer how much he loves them one last time. His body trembles too much to spell it against their skin, and there's no time to find his slate, even if he could hold the chalk. No, he thinks, it can't end like this. Resolve in his eyes, he uses whatever strength he has left to pull Seer into one final, crushing kiss, pouring in a lifetime of love and tenderness. 'I love you,' he speaks against their lips. Then, he is still.
Vittore Simone: He seems confused, mystified, as if his own mortality comes as a complete surprise. For a moment, he simply stares at his own blood with a peculiar look on his face, like he's trying to figure out if this is really happening or if it's just another bad, bad dream. Finally, he seems to come to some kind of conclusion and exhales a weak chuckle. "Death has never wanted me, before. I... I should have known better, I suppose." His whispers die in his throat, and for a brief moment, his expression twists into a soul-aching pain. Then, finally, he looks to his lover with a poor excuse for a smile plastered across his paling lips. "I just wanted... I am sorry, che cietto."
Andrai: He's terrified, shaking, eyes squeezed shut as he clutches Seer tight enough to bruise. He shakes his head over and over again as if denying this so vehemently will change reality. He doesn't want to leave; he doesn't want to be alone again. He doesn't want to leave Seer alone. But he can't hang on like this for much longer. So, he chokes down a sob and hides his face, not wanting Seer to see him cry. "I love you," he says it before he can't anymore, and even muffled against their clothing, it sounds like a prayer. "I love you."
Vzridmi: "Unexpected," she tries to make light of things, to laugh, but it's a soggy thing between the crying and the pain. She's never been afraid or ashamed to show her emotions, but at this moment, she wishes she could hide how scared she is. She doesn't want Seer's last memories of her to be of her tears. She wants them to know how happy they made her, how grateful she is. And after her, she wants them to live, to move on, to be happy. Her words come out far more desperate than she wants, but she's out of time. "Promise me, vna ada. Promise me you won't ever lose your smile."

Mission Accomplished || D.M
summary: pansy and blaise make it their mission to get y/n and draco together
pairing: draco x fem!reader
warnings: fluff, not sure abt anything else — please comment if I missed something!!
word count: 1.6k
a/n: pls ive been writing this since the beginning of feb but i didn’t know how to end it off
Tumblr media
draco had taken an interest in you ever since you had laughed at a joke he mumbled during class, with no intention of being heard. he turned to the owner of the laugh, to see you sitting next to your friend with your hand over your mouth, trying to conceal your giggles. that’s when he decided that your laugh was now his favorite sound in the world and that he wanted to hear it more.
he hadn’t made his crush on you known, besides to blaise. he rarely even talked with you before, but he wanted to change that this year. he started off by greeting you whenever you two passed each other in the halls, to initiating small conversations with you during your shared classes, and now he was joining you in the library to read after he ‘coincidentally’ shared the same reading spot as you.
pansy and blaise entered the library together, in search of a book they needed in order to start on their astronomy project. they both walked to the aisle where the book would be found, pansy’s fingers gliding over the spines of the books as she searched for the one in particular. “do me a favor and help me find it?” she spat out to blaise, irritated that he stood there staring off at something she could care less about.
“is that draco with y/n?” blaise asked instead, noticing the familiar blonde boy sitting at a table across from you. this immediately caught pansy’s attention as she averted her focus from the bookshelf in front of her to the table you two sat at. “no way!”
“they are so into each other,” pansy silently squealed as she watched you burst out into giggles due to some awful joke draco had made, you seemed to have a thing for his jokes. “draco’s liked her for months now.” a grin appeared on blaise’s face, trying to hold in his laughter at draco’s lame attempt at flirting with you.
“and he hasn’t made a move on her yet?” pansy questioned. blaise shook his head side to side to answer her question when an idea suddenly entered her brain. “blaise we have to do something!”
“like what?” blaise was confused, unsure of what pansy meant. “forget the project, we have to set them up! mission y/n and draco!” pansy exclaimed. she excitedly grabbed blaise’s hand and dragged him to a table far from yours to create a plan, while blaise internally groaned, knowing how passionate she could become when it came to stuff like this.
being a prefect always was an advantage. and luckily for pansy and blaise who were both prefects, this made it easy for them to execute their plan.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*  *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
one foggy night, you threw a jumper and sweats over your body, preparing for your late night stroll around the castle. you liked to do this whenever you couldn’t fall asleep, finding that a walk seemed to be relaxing and calm the thoughts running through your head.
you exited your dormitory quietly, being careful enough to not wake your sleeping dormmates. you walked down the stairs and into the common room, feeling chills run up and down your body as you felt the temperature drop. you made it across, about to exit the room when you walked straight into something — no, someone.
“sneaking out again, y/n?” there stood pansy ahead of you. she kept a straight face, slightly raising her eyebrow in attempt to intimidate you.
“weren’t you just asleep?” you looked back and pointed towards the steps to the dormitories, confused as to where she came from. she was asleep in the dorm, right?
“I’m sorry but I’m going to have to give you a detention,” she stated as you gave her a questioning look. “you’re not serious, are you? you know I’ve snuck out a million times already and never gave me one before,” you tried to reason with her.
“and that’s exactly why I should be giving you one, you’ve snuck out one too many times y/n. meet me for detention in snape’s classroom. saturday, 5PM, and don’t be late.” she left so quickly and was already gone before you could question her sudden change in opinion.
meanwhile, draco sat in the common room one afternoon, looking back and forth between papers as he copied goyle’s homework. with one question left, he was almost done and turned to glance at goyle’s paper one last time when it was suddenly snatched away from underneath him.
“what the hell?!” draco looked up to see blaise holding onto the piece of parchment he desperately needed in order to complete his assignment.
“really, draco? cheating? I’m absolutely flabbergasted and disappointed in you!” blaise overexaggerated and flailed his arms around, causing draco to furrow his brows in confusion. “I’m giving you a detention for going against your academic honesty!” blaise sighed and crossed his arms, dramatically shaking his head at his friend.
“what are you on mate? did you not just copy off of his homework before me?” draco was irritated as blaise prevented him from finishing his homework. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. now, meet me in snape’s classroom at 5PM on saturday for your detention.” and with that, blaise left, not giving draco a chance to hex him.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*  *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
it was now saturday, a few minutes before the clock struck 5PM. you were making your way to snape’s classroom, pissed that you had to spend your free time in detention.
arriving at your destination, you opened the door and entered the classroom, curious as to what pansy had planned for your detention. the first thing you noticed was an empty classroom, before turning to the back corner and spotting your favorite blonde. “draco? what are you doing here?”
“blaise gave me a bloody detention for ‘going against my academic honesty,’ whatever that means. you?” he raised an eyebrow as he waited for your reply. “pansy caught me trying to sneak out.”
he slowly nodded as you took a seat beside him, “don’t you find it odd that blaise and pansy never give slytherins detentions, especially not their own friends. and the one time they do, it happens to be on the exact same day at the exact same time?” he questioned as you thought it over.
“you’re right, that is a bit odd.”
after waiting a few more minutes for blaise and pansy to arrive, draco went to grab his bag off the floor as he stood up. “I have better things to do and seeing that they’re late, I’m going to go do those other things. care to join?”
“lead the way, malfoy.” you grinned at him, gesturing your arm towards the door. he made his way over to the door, you following right behind him. you waited for him to open it, yet that never happened.
“the door won’t open,” he concluded after a few moments of him rattling the doorknob.
“what do you mean the door won’t open?”
“it means, the door won’t open.” you lightly shoved him out of the way, pulling out your wand and muttering alohomora. you became frustrated when you went to open the door and the lock still wouldn’t budge.
after multiple attempts to open the door, both of you realized it was no use. you guys were locked in.
you found yourself sitting on the floor besides draco, talking with one another for hours on end as you wore his jumper. he had politely offered it to you when he noticed you shivering due to the cold dungeon air, in which you denied it at first, but he kept on insisting.
you started drifting off, his words started twisting into gibberish and his voice became muffled. draco felt his heart warm when your head fell onto his shoulder. “oh c’mon y/n, don’t fall asleep on me.”
“I’m sorry, it’s just your jumper is so comfy and warm,” you lightly spoke as you snuggled closer into his body. draco thought his heart was about to burst.
suddenly, the door opened and entering the room was snape, who only stared at the two of you when he noticed his two students just casually sitting on his classroom floor. the sudden noise made you bolt awake.
“out.” his voice was curt and blunt, causing you and draco to rush to your feet. you hurriedly exited the room as draco mumbled a “sorry professor.”
you and draco ran down the hall, hardly able to contain your laughter when you entered the common room.
sitting on the couches before you and draco were pansy and blaise, who wore amused looks upon draco’s and your appearance.
“nice jumper, y/n.” blaise wiggled his eyebrows at the two of you when you and draco finally realized what was going on. “they did this on purpose, didn’t they?” draco spoke up beside you.
“I’m gonna get those little gits.” you ran straight for pansy as she yelped and ran towards the dorms, you following straight behind her.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*  *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
the following day at breakfast, pansy was fangirling over the sight of you two walking down the hall hand in hand. “mission accomplished, blaise! you were actually a good partner, we should do it again sometime. ooo how about daphne and theo?”
truth be told, you were glad blaise and pansy had done that as it allowed you and draco to realize your feelings for one another.
what you did not like, was the fact that pansy and blaise had the audacity to take credit for your relationship with draco. and while it may be true, you would never admit it to them out loud.

Tumblr media
hq boys when you're feeling anxious or stressed
Tumblr media
suna rintaro, hinata shoyo, oikawa toru x gn!r
!warnings! mentions of anxiety, reader comparing themselves to others, mentions of food & hunger, driving. this is like all fluff no angst rlly tbh.
Tumblr media
SUNA RINTARO.
he could tell something was up but conviced himself he shouldnt pry as he had already asked you twice if you were feeling alright, to which you reasurred him with a "yep" both times, it was suspicious but he thought maybe you just wanted to be left alone. meanwhile you weren't sure why you lied him, you obviously were not doing okay at the moment. currently he was driving you home and your anxiety was going absolutely crazy from the amount of school work that was piling up on you, it's unfair you thought to yourself, looking out the window. not only were you stressed from work but trying to keep up with your friend was hard, to say the least. they were phenomenal students, straight As in their transcript and though your grades were just fine, you couldn't help but feel inferior and insecure. it's unfair how effortlessly smart they are and how i'll never be able to catch up.... oh boy if your thoughts weren't running wild before they definitely were now, you hadn't even realized your boyfriend pulling into your driveway until he slightly tapped your shoulder. "are you sure you're alright? i don't wanna pressure you ofcourse but, you know you can tell me anything right?" ... and there were the water works! the little string holding you together had snapped just like that. you sat there in the passengers seat sobbing into your hands and suna rintaro hadn't a clue what to do in the moment.
"give me just a sec" you heard him mumble but not before he gave you a kiss as light as a feather on the top of your head. somehow you didn't notice him exit the car and rush to your side until he opened your door and hugged you so tight you honestly couldn't breathe. after a few seconds your boyfriend let go of the embrace which, to his dismay, only made you cry even harder. now, he knew he was known for being quite... stoic but he was definitely panicking on the inside and it was really difficult to remain calm on the outside. your boyfriend carefully reached over you to unbuckle the seatbelt that you had yet to unclasp. "lets go inside baby." his voice was so gentle it would've taken you by surprise had you not still been crying. you nodded in response and he helped you carefully out of the car, holding your hand all the way to the door, "d'ya have your key?" you nodded trying your best to unlock the door, after a few struggled and shakey attempts you finally had your door unlocked but not without rins help because he couldn't bare to watch you struggle any longer.
stepping inside rin helped you take your shoes off, removing his own after, "bedroom?" having calmed down a little you whispered "yes," with a small nod. he nodded with you in response and took you to your bedroom. after helping you change into comfy clothes he helped you into bed, crawling in right behind you. your back was snug against his chest and he held you super tightly, it was silent for a few minutes until finally he spoke up, "please tell me how i can help" you could feel your lip quiver. "well... you don't have to say anything right now, you know i can wait. i'll even leave if you want, i just wanted you to know that you can tell me whenever you're ready and that i'll listen." neither of you were sure when you'd be ready to admit what had gotten you so upset but you felt comfortable knowing suna rintaro would be there whenever you were ready, whether it be minutes from now or even months.
HINATA SHOYO.
your silence on the walk home was starting to concern him.. maybe im just talking too much... he thought, "hey... im sorry if im talking your ear off.. how was your day angel?" to say he was disappointed with your response would be an understatement. not thar you HAD to talk but usually you were talkative with him and the worry in his tummy was only growing more. a simple, "oh.. my day was alright sho," simply woundn't cut it! "hey, are you feeling okay?" it was silent for a few seconds before you answered a mumbled "i think so, are you feeling alright, sho?" he simply nodded with a "mhm" and you told him to continue on with his story from earlier.
he complied but only to fill the silence. hinata decided to trust you when you said you were okay because you know your own feelings and he knows for a fact he's made it clear before that you could and should let him know if something was bothering you. though you enjoyed listening to hinata's stories you only found yourself getting lost in your own mind whilst he rambled on.you could tell he was suspicious of your behavior but was grateful he had left his curiosity behind because you were sure you would snap if he had asked you if you were okay again, you really didn't want to cry in front of him. truth is, your thoughts were running wild, stressing over the smallest things; assignments due at the end of the week, what you were gonna get your boyfriend for your anniversary, how you were gonna make time for your friends surprise birthday party and helping sho with his studied all the while trying to take care of your own self and keep your own grades afloat. "y/n..? we're at your house.. are you sure your alright? you look a little pale, are you ill?" crap! how had you not noticed you were approaching your own driveway you wanted to slap yourself for being so clueless. you couldn't help but feel horrible for not listening to your boyfriends story also.
"yes sho i'm fine really, i just didn't have time to eat lunch today but i have food inside so don't worry m'may?" he looked at you suspiciously and you knew he was onto you, "y'know y/n, i'm not gonna force you to tell me what's going on but just know i'll always be here for you, okay?" he gave you a small smile before engulfing you into a tight hug, it honestly melted your heart. surprisingly, you didn't start crying on the spot. "y'know, i wanted to trust you when you said you were okay but now i'm not so sure if you were telling the truth," he mumbled into your shoulder. you sighed, giving up the facade. "sho.... i just don't know what to do honestly, i have alot on my plate right now and i'm really stressed with all the responsibilities ive piled onto myself," you admitted. he nodded lifting his head from your shoulder, giving you the brightest smile, "well, i can always help out! i might not be the mooost helpful person ever but i'll try my best, and if anything i'm good moral support!" you giggled at that but suddenly you felt your lip quiver from the sudden guilt you feeling, "i'm sorry for lying to you sho-", "hey! its alright! you dont need to apologize. especially dont need you crying on me now!" he smiled cupping your face in his hands, wiping away a few stray tears of whom managed to escape.
OIKAWA TORU.
you smile back at him and thought of how silly it was that you tried keeping your feelings a secret from your boyfriend of two years, hinata shoyo, feeling glad that you confided in him. he knew you were upset as soon as he saw you that very morning, he could read you like and open book and you knew that fact very well. still though, you tried your best to hide yourself from him, though it was hard considering you sitting right next to him in the passenger seat of his car. finally after a whole day of being worried sick, he was tired of leaving things left unsaid "babyyyy," he sang for you from the kitchen, "please come here a sec!" he yelled for you louder. soon you came trudging down the hallway, blanket wrapped around your body, he couldn't help but smile at how adorable his s/o looked.
"c'mere quickly," he said will a grin, opening his arms for a hug, which you gladly accept, wrapping your arms around his waist tightly. "now, i know you know that i know that you're not feeling well, so please tell me what's got my angel so upset?" he said softly rubbing his hand lightly over your back, his voice a little muffled from his cheek being squished against the top of your head. you let out a breath you hadn't even realized you were holding, "'m sorry tooru, i don't know what's wrong with me today.... just not feeling well." you felt him nod against your head in response, "well good thing your amazing boyfriend is here to make you feel all better huh?" you let a out small giggle at that. "you know you can tell me when you're feeling down right? you shouldn't keep things bottled up inside", "i know tooru... im sorry, i just dont really know wbat i'm feeling so down about though," you admitted shyly. "hey that's okay! there absolutely no need to apologize for that, here, look at me, angel," he tilts your face so you're looking up at him, his big soft hands holding your face, thumbs stroking your cheeks lightly, "i'm here whenever you figure it out, hell, even if you dont figure it out or there just isn't any reason at all. you know i'm always, always, always here. i promise you that, m'kay?" he finishes his little speech with a smile, smothering your face in kisses. you could only feel relieved, thankful and loved. because you knew that you would always have your soulmate, oikawa toru by your side.

heyheyhey idk if u do req but love your dad tom stuff! PLZ PLZ do tom helping his kids with homework but cant do it and reader has to help and its all fluffy 😩💕
ye im down to do req and this had me going completely ott cos its v cute (and a lot less angsty than what ive written recently aha) so apologies for my ramblings:
Summary: tom has the kids for a day and maths homework throws a spanner in the works - tomhollandxreader
implied smut + v slight reference to porn but basically just fluff I promise xox
\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////
Tom had dealt with a lot of whining today. Nova and Leo were the absolute joys of his life, there was no doubt about it. Of course, he also loved you a hell of a lot too - sometimes to his detriment though, hence the position he was in now.
You’d had a busy week at work and he had been away for the first half of it - leaving you as an almost single mother to a 5 and a 7 year old. So completely fairly, you’d asked if he wouldn’t mind watching the kids for a the day on Sunday, allowing you to go to a friends baby shower. There was no answer but to agree, Tom loved quality time with the kids and he wanted you to kick back and relax with you friends too.
However the afternoon had not been nearly as idealistic as it were supposed to be in his head. You had left him only one real job (apart from the unavoidable essentials of keeping the kids alive with food and water, something you’d hope he need not be reminded about now). Really it shouldn’t of been that hard, it was just each kid had two pieces of homework. After convincing and cajoling the kids into sitting at the table which he’d already set up with Nova’s ‘Liverpool FC’ and Leo’s ‘captain marvels’ pencil case, the English was easy.
In fact 5 year old Leo took great joy out of writing a poem with his Dad, which basically involved trying to rhyme any word with another - especially when he tried to convince Tom that all his completely fictitious words were real and worked together. A personal favourite had been ‘snakes’ and ‘palakes’ which Leo was convinced meant pancakes - arguing so vehemently Tom almost started to doubt himself on basic English.
Thankfully though his eldest and most sensibly child eventually took him out his misery. If anyone had any control over the Holland boys, Leo and Tom - it was the Holland girls. You and Nova had both boys completely under you spell, often taking advantage of the fact too. It was only when Nova got bored of hearing Tom and Leo mock arguing, interspersed with the little boys giggles that Tom tried his absolute hardest to keep a straight face at, that she swooped in.
“Stop being silly Leo, mummy told you he’s not good at school!” She looked oh so innocent, eyes immediately flicking down to continue the little short story she was happily going on with. In response  Tom scowled, knowing your highly curious and intelligent daughter had asked you (for one reason or another) why he was not so academic. Yet instead of Leo bursting out laughing, instead he just nodded and accepted it too - making Tom scowl even more. Not even Leo thought it was a joke.
So apart from his children apparently taking pity on his simple mind, it was all going smoothly. Perhaps, due to the thankful fact your children had inherited their brains from their mother - something Tom was forever thankful for, until he was shamed for his substandard intellect in the family. Then again though, he was Spiderman. So take that.
Until Nova brought out her maths sheet. Then the afternoon quickly descended into chaos. It was fractions, something she hadn’t quite grasped from school yet - a concept that still hurt her head somewhat. Normally though it’d be fine, she’d bring the sheet to you and the two of you used ‘ girl power’ to figure it out… you prior experience as a tutor while in uni helping you know how to break through to her.
Unfortunately Tom didn’t share this same experience. Nor did Tom share a maths qualification… something that had evaded him completely during his schooling career. Of course, it had never been a particular issue, acting didn’t require the use of maths and algebra and Tom was in a very lucky position of being able to pay someone to manage his finances from a very young age. So no, dividing 2/3 and 3/7 didn’t come the most naturally to him. Or at all to be quite honest.
“I CANT DO IT AND GRACE IN MY CLASS COULD!” For context, Grace was one of her school friends, who forever liked to compare herself to the young Holland - especially because she was normally ahead. Nova had gone from quiet frustration, staring at the questions with her tongue sticking out slightly, to one of pure rage - yelling at her dad with tears in her eyes. Nova was normally incredibly intuitive, she always found it difficult when she couldn’t do something. Now, with a ‘teacher’ who was more useless than her - the frustrations inevitably bubbled over.
“Hey, we can work it out, just calm-“
“YOU CANT DO IT EITHER YOUR STUPID “ She was just young and frustrated, Tom tried not to take it personally but … it wasn’t always easy. Chiefly because this was the height of offensive statement Nova knew - this was her version of adult explicit language.
“Nova you can’t be rude.” He used his stern voice, something Tom very rarely used with his little girl. Though he never wanted to upset her, neither did he want her to think it was ever okay to be so rude to anyone like that- no matter how crappy at maths they were. It hurt him to do so but it was necessary - life lessons about the importance of being kind needed to be learnt. And it worked… if what Tom was aiming for was his beautiful baby girl’s eyes to brim with sparkling tears, her bottom lip quivering slightly.
Instantly Tom’s eyebrows drooped, trying to fight his natural reaction to scoop her onto his knee and reassure her everything was okay. But as you had lectured him many a time before, he had to put his foot down once in a while. So instead, the father and daughter were locked in a silence and intense eye contact, until Nova hesitantly began to speak.
“I’m sorry Daddy.” During which, Nova shoved her chair back, making it screech against the tiled floors uglily before running off up the stairs. Tom knew she was crying a lot. Knew this was going to take a bit of fixing.
With a sigh of his daughters name, Tom popped his head into the living to check on Leo who had already finished all his stuff. Seeing him completely zombified in front of ‘paw patrol’ on TV, Tom trudged up the stairs. He knew where she was, when Nova was upset she always hid in the corner of her wardrobe and cried in the darkness. So after steadying himself with a little internal monologue of how to approach the situation Tom walked in and sat down beside the wardrobe - knocking on the door slightly.
“Nova… can we talk please?” All he heard was sniffing echoing from the wooden chamber until she tried to shout through the door.
“Go-go… go away daddy.” It broke his heart, the way her voice wavered, making Tom pout - gently letting his head fall against the wardrobe doors.
“I don’t want you to be upset beautiful…. And you did apologise which I appreciate. You know why Daddy got angry right?” Her sniffles heightened before she muttered a quiet ‘yes’. “And you are sorry? Because that might’ve made me really sad too.”
“I’m s-s-sorry, I didn’t mean it.”
“Then that’s good and we don’t need to cry. You want a cuddle little one?” Before Tom could even properly get up the door was being pushed open by her little hands, revealing a tear stained face and big glassy eyes looking up at her Dad. Swiftly Tom scooped her up and out of the cupboard, whispering to her while she buried her face in his chest.
“Oh come here my little bean.”
//////////////////////
When you came home late that evening, only mildly exhausted from spending the whole day gossiping with your girls, it was weirdly quiet. All the lights were out in the front room, which made you close the door gently, thinking Tom had managed to exhaust the kids - and himself in the process. With a relieved sigh at the peace you pattered into the kitchen to get yourself a drink (it had been a little concern that Tom would’ve worked the kids into a hyperactive and delerious state that kept them up long past bedtime - which ultimately you’d have to deal with). The house was remarkably silent and though it was clear from the littered toys everywhere that it had indeed been Tom alone in charge, everything seemed pretty okay.
It was only as you were about to head upstairs to join your hubby in bed that you realised the study light was still on, streaming through the small crack in the doorframe. Assuming Tom had just neglected to turn it off, in otherwords Tom being Tom, you nudged it open with your hand. Surprisingly though, there was your husband, hunched over the desk, looking almost angrily focused - between the computer screen and a piece of paper below him. Normally you would’ve just assumed it was another script sent over or an edit Harry had sent of another screenplay they were writing together.
But no, the blatant red flag was the screen that you could see. A screen on YouTube, of a man pointing at a whiteboard of fractions.
So with a soft wrist you wrapped your knuckled on the side of the door, even if you had technically already entered the room. The reaction had you stifling a laugh, it was as if you’d caught him watching something *less PG* the way he jumped out his seat, closing the browser immediately.
“Love!! I -er … didn’t know you’d got back?”
“I just did.” You smiled gently, while walking into stand behind his chair, wrapping your arms round his neck and pressing a kiss to his jaw. “Soooo…. what’ca doingggg” The glee in your voice was evident, making Tom groan and shut his eyes.
“I hate you, you know that right?”
“No you don’t… but you were watching a primary school video on fractions, if I’m not so mistaken?” He sighed deeply, making a point of turning the paper with his scribbles over to obscure it.
“Nova’s homework.. she couldn’t do it and neither could I, so then she basically screamed at me for being thick and udseless and then had a breakdown.”
Now you felt guilty. This was a bit of a sore spot with Tom, he always for some reason felt inferior because of his academic ability. Which was stupid- mainly because he was the most clever and talented man you’d ever met. Just…. Just not at fraction.
“Oh T… you could’ve just left it for me to do with her, I don’t mind.”
“That’s not the point Y/n.” He snapped a little, shrugging your arms off him and spinning in the chair so he could face you. “She’s my daughter and I should be able to help her! It’s not like it’s that hard, it’s just I’m unbelievable thick.”
“Tom stop. Look - you can do this I assure you, it’s just been a long old time ‘kay? Your rusty and that’s only natural.”
“I really don’t think I could ev-“
“Can I teach you? It’s just the method and then I promise you’ll get it.”
It took a bit of persuasion but eventually Tom agreed, letting you pull the corner chair forward to beside his desk so you could demonstrate it to him. To be fair, he really could do it- just a bit of familiarising on the ‘stick-change-flip’ method. The way the lightbulb moment literally caused his face to light up; scurrying to do the question for himself, tongue sticking out in the process; then presenting it to you proudly - well it had you melting in your seat.
“See! That took all of 5 minutes and you got it.” You elbowed  his side by leaning forward in the chair, which instead of letting go, Tom reached and caught, before pulling you up and round. You landed with you bum perched on the edge of the mahogany desk, Tom now stood up- his legs in-between your parted thighs - your feet hooking round the back of knees.
“It’s all down to my incredibly talented teacher.”
“No…. No I really don’t think it is” You mused with a soft voice, fingers instinctively going to the nape of his neck - twirling the little curls round your fingertips.
“Well even so… I think I could teach you a thing or two too.” Never one to mull on anything, Tom’s tone had immediately switched to something a lot more… mischievous.
“Not even going to ask about my day? Wheres the chat mr smooth?” He had to repress the grin at your smirk because as much as you infuriated the hell out of him - you also had this weird ability of making him feel so entranced and helpless. He relented with a sarcastic chime.
“Fine, how was your day love.”
“Good…. but I have a feeling you’re about to make it a whole lot better.”
That was all the signals he needed to lean forward, in doing so forcing you back until your back landed completely on the cool wood. His lips feathered yours, both hands pinned either side of your head.
“Oh darling… you have no idea.”

Temporary--Luke&Lily series
Tumblr media
a/n: so sorry it’s taken me a month to complete this. It’s a heavy topic with a lot of emotions and I was feeling what my characters were feeling. This is very detail oriented, some medical jargon (I did my best research and some of it was from watching Grey’s Anatomy which I know isn’t realistic but I tried)
warnings: NICU mentions throughout, premature birth, C-section, sadness, moments of grief and loneliness, some sexual content. **Please read very carefully, this is a sensitive topic**
word count: 9.7k

Magical Memoriess&Misfortunes (<-- catch up here)
feedback is always welcome, I hope you enjoy it.
****
It’s like you’re in a horrible dream. You’re frozen in terror at the multiple bodies moving above you, their voices warped but all you feel is immense pain and fright. You search for Luke through your blurred and clouded vision. The lights are too bright. It hurts your eyes.
You think you hear your name through the thick cotton cloud that has somehow gotten in your ear. Why can’t you hear properly? Where’s Luke? How did you get on this moving bed?
Another white-hot-blazing pain slices through you. You think you scream. Hands are on you and then it goes black…
…When you wake up, you’re still in this horrible nightmare that won’t seem to end. Usually when the terrible things keep happening, you wake up in a cold sweat.
“…. lovie…”
Your head lolls to the side and you see Luke’s eyes peeking out above a blue mask and a blue cap. It still feels like you’re stuck in a cloud and you feel a tug below you. Before you can look down, Luke cups your cheek and shakes his head.
You don’t know what he means but tears start rolling down your cheeks and then you close your eyes again. Why can’t you wake up? You just want to wake up, get out of this night terror…
…Coming to again and you hear more voices and commotion. You hear the urgency. Their words meet your ears, but the meaning doesn’t register with your brain. What is happening? Luke still has a firm grip on your face, but you look beyond him and see a group of people in blue gathered around a small thing. Their hands work quickly. You wish your tears would make what’s happening clearer.
“He’s breathing! It’s very labored!”
“Intubate him. Page Dr. Chambers.”
“Move people!”
He? Who’s he?
You look to Luke and he’s smiling through his own tears, his forehead pressed to yours.
Just as you’re about to connect the very blurry dots, more pain ensues. This is the worst thing you’ve ever felt in your life. It’s all over your body and it’s in your chest, collapsing onto you.
More voices.
More urgency.
More terror.
More questions.
Then, you drift off once more, the pain ceasing with each gasped breath.
**
Soft, methodical beeps drift you awake. You’re not on that strange cloud anymore but your body feels heavy, weighted. You search your brain for where you are, the sheets are crisp and your feet are cold. Disney World swims by and you’re confused because you remember waking up after you fainted.
Was that real?
Or is this real?
Then it hits you, like the snap of a rubber band breaking all the distorted memories and voices and hands all come back. The pain. The tug. He…
You gasp and flash your eyes open. You’re met with a white ceiling and wires and tubes suspended above you. There’s commotion to your left then Luke’s face is in your vision. His eyes are red with dark circles underneath them; his hair is a disarray as if he’s been pulling his fingers through it repeatedly.
“Oh, thank God, Y/N I was so worried. They told me you’d be asleep for a while because you lost so much blood…so much blood…but you’re okay now. You’re awake. I’m right here, lovie, I’m right here,” he rushes out in a frantic whisper.
He touches your forehead carefully and he’s so warm. You’re still trying to string everything together but there’s so many gaps in time. You’re pinpointing things by the different types of pain you experienced.
“What…what happened?” you croak then try to swallow. But your mouth and throat are so dry it’s like trying to swallow sand. It hurts.
When will the pain stop?
Luke’s eyes soften, he continues to stroke your forehead and into your hair. He licks his chapped lips then shakes his head.
“I…”
“Did I lose the baby?” you whisper, voice sounding like broken glass. Tears well up in your eyes again.
“No, no, no…shhh, shhh,” he soothes wiping at your tears with his other hand.
“They don’t…” he takes a deep shuddering breath, “you had a C-section. He’s in the NICU being monitored, I only got a small glimpse of him before they took him away. He’s so small and I don’t know what’s happening, no one has come by and I’ve been worried you wouldn’t wake up.”
And then you’re comforting him by pulling his head to yours, he sobs into you and you pet his hair. Your voice is lost, you feel the sudden loss of your baby not in you anymore, your heart is very fragile and seeing Luke like this terrifies you.
But Luke also said ‘he’ and a small smile appears on your lips. You have a son.
“I’m so glad you’re awake, baby,” he whispers. You feel his hot tears soak through the gown on your shoulder.
“Can you call for a nurse?” you ask kissing his hair delicately. At least, you hope you do because your lips are also very chapped and dry. You need some damn water.
“What hurts?” his head snaps up and you see why his eyes are so red; from his tears.
You swallow and swipe at his own tears.
“We need damn information about our son, and I need some damn water,” your voice shakes with ferocity. Luke punches the call button repeatedly until a nurse runs in.
**
After hydrating yourself with water, Luke took your hand keeping his gaze on you as you demanded the nurse to get your doctor, or your son’s doctor, to come and give you information. You’re never normally one to yell at someone, but your memories have so many holes in them you need to know what’s happened.
The nurse tries to console you but you’re hell bent on finding out about your son. Your son you haven’t even seen yet.
“I will walk there if I have to,” you threaten through gritted teeth. The more frustrated you become the more prominent the throb and ache below your waist also becomes.
“I will go find your doctor right away, ma’am,” the nurse nods frantically and runs from the room. You glare in his wake.
Luke squeezes your hand; you look at him.
“I love you,” he says simply but you hear way more than that.
I’m scared, too. I don’t know what to do either. We’re in this together. I’m never letting go.
Shortly after, a doctor walks in the room, her expression timid and she’s scrolling on her iPad.
“Mrs. Hemmings, how are you feeling? Any pain we can help with? I’m Dr. Wilson and I administered the C-section.”
“I’m fine. Take me to my son and let me know what’s happening,” you demand.
“Mrs. Hemmings, with your son being born at only 25 weeks the next 24 hours is very critical. We are monitoring him as we speak, I have my best staff on his watch,” Dr. Wilson explains, her voice cool and collected.
“What happened?”
Dr. Wilson steps closer to your side of the bed, her round face and almond-shaped eyes show both kindness and fire in them. You’re still on the fence on how to feel about her because she didn’t tell Luke anything.
“Part of your placenta was twisted, and it caused you to go into early labor which also caused stress on your baby. Thankfully, you got here in time and we were able to get him out before it became worse. His breathing was labored and with him being so small and born extremely early, his organs haven’t fully developed yet.”
“Why are the next 24 hours critical?” Luke asks, his hold on your hand is like a death grip.
“Because he’s still so small, his lungs aren’t at the correct size they should be. Lack of oxygen can cause severe brain damage or heart failure. We have an ET, endotracheal tube in his mouth which is hooked to a ventilator to help him breathe. An IV is also administering the nutrition he needs, we’re monitoring his heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and he’s being kept in an incubator that helps simulate the inside of the womb.”
You take in all the information, your heart longing for your baby boy that you have no idea what he looks like.
“What’s the survival rate for a baby born at 25 weeks?” your voice cracks. Luke shifts closer to you, his other hand covering yours.
Dr. Wilson glances between you and Luke before answering solemnly, “Between 67 to 76% survival.”
Luke lets out a choked gasp and you shift your eyes to the ceiling to keep the burning tears from falling.
“I can promise you Mr. and Mrs. Hemmings, that we are doing everything in our power to make sure he makes it through the next 24 hours. He’s a strong little guy.”
“Is there any way we can see him?” Luke’s voice wavers and is thick with emotion.
“Infection is very prominent right now; any outside contact can make him head in a worse direction.”
“Please,” you beg in a whisper meeting Dr. Wilson’s eyes. You notice that they’re brown. “I need to see him. I don’t want him to be alone if he…if he…”
You bite your lip and shake your head; you’re too overcome with emotions to finish a sentence you don’t even want to think about.
“Mrs. Hemmings, I can’t risk your stitches tearing. You’ve lost a lot of blood; your blood pressure is extremely high due to the stress of early labor.”
“I don’t care! Please, let me see him. I need to see what my baby looks like,” you cry. Luke rubs at your shoulder affectionately saying your name. You can’t look at him now. If you do you’ll lose this fiery courage that’s inside you right now.
“I understand. I’ll see what I can do, but are you sure you aren’t in any pain?”
“My stomach hurts,” you whisper.
“I’ll have a nurse fix that for you. I will be right back,” Dr. Wilson smiles then leaves the room.
The male nurse you screamed at comes back in and makes quick work with your IV. You’re too distraught to look or even speak to Luke so you keep your eyes fixed on the white board on the opposite wall. The name of your nurse is Tom, and you look at each yellow face on the ‘rate your pain’ scale. You’re fixated on the number zero face, it’s the happiest looking one with a wide-open smile.
That scale is wrong. The pain and fear and worry you’re feeling doesn’t equate a ten. It’s too powerful, it weighs down on you but at the same time you feel nothing. The pain is too much that it’s also gone. Your pain is at a zero, a big circle of nothing and everything all at once.
**
You’re not sure how much time has passed before Dr. Wilson comes back.
“I cannot take you to see him, but I found a way where you can see him,” she smiles then hands you her iPad.
It’s heavy in your hand and you gasp upon the first look of your baby boy. He’s surrounded by blankets under a large light with tubes, wires, and circular patches attached to his tiny, tiny self. You see his small chest moving rapidly with his breaths and you see the tiniest hat on his head. Luke drapes himself next to you, his lips pressing onto your temple.
“There he is,” you whisper touching your finger to the screen. “He looks so helpless…”
“How is he?” Luke asks.
“His oxygen level is still very low, but he’s taking the nutrients very well.”
You’ve already got his features memorized, and yet you can’t stop looking at him. You wish you could touch him, let him know you’re there and that you love him.
“Can we keep this in here?” you ask.
“Of course. I’ll be back with more updates, but I need you to rest and heal yourself, Mrs. Hemmings. Is there any family we need to contact?”
“The girls!” you gasp and turn to Luke.
“Shit,” he exhales then checks the time on his watch. “Lily’s with Cory by now and Posy…shit! I’ll call Ashton and then call Cory…”
He continues to mumble to himself as he searches for his phone. You turn back to the screen, your heart longing for your little boy.
**
Hours have gone by, the room you’re in is darkened from the night sky peeking through the blinds. The iPad is still on your lap and you’ve heard every conversation Luke has had while he made phone calls. Daycare called Ashton when neither you nor Luke picked Posy up and both of your phones went unanswered.
According to Ashton, Luke sent out a text to the band group chat that said ‘at hospital. Emergency get the girls will call’ but he doesn’t even remember sending it. Everything happened so fast and yet it felt like it dragged.
Posy is at your home with Ashton and KayKay who said will stay with her for as long as you two need. Just when you think of Lily, Luke already asks if they’d be all right picking her up from Cory’s on Sunday and they said yes.
“Lily might want to stay with Cory,” you tell him after he hangs up with Ashton. He’s tapping away at his phone, probably texting Calum and Michael or his family. Or all of them. You’re not sure but now you have Lily and Posy on your mind.
“It’s too late to call him,” Luke mutters and falls into the chair beside your bed. He scoots closer and peers at the iPad screen.
“Where’s my phone? I’ll call him so he and Ella can discuss it,” you hold out your hand.
“Lovie, it’s almost ten thirty at night—”
“Give me my phone so I can call him, Luke,” you interrupt a little too harshly. “Please.”
He holds your gaze for a moment before reaching into his other pants pocket. He hands you your phone and you scroll to Cory’s name under your favorites. You stare at your baby boy as the phone rings.
“Hey, Y/N, what’s going on?” Cory asks and you feel your emotions rising to the surface at the sound of his voice.
You force them down.
“Um, me and Luke are at the hospital. Something…” you suck in a large breath but your voice still trembles. “Something went wrong and I had an emergency C-section and the baby is in the NICU. Posy is home with Ashton and KayKay and they said they’d pick up Lily tomorrow but I know she’d probably want to stay with you. And I…I know it’s a lot to ask of you, but Lily needs to know. She’s been seeing everything going on around her and I don’t want her to be scared.”
“Of course, they can both stay with us. I still have Lily’s toddler bed. How are you? Tell me what’s going on.”
You tell him everything. Luke holds your hand as you do, his thumb rubbing soothing circles over your knuckles and your wedding ring.
“The doctor said he’s all right for now but he has to get through the next 24 hours?” Cory clarifies gently.
“Yes.”
“First of all, congratulations on a little boy,” he says and you can hear his smile through the phone. “You’re doing fine and he is too and he’ll continue to get better because he’s a fighter.”
“How do you know that? He’s so small, Cory….”
“I know it because you’re a fighter, I’m sure you’re giving the nursing staff hell and highwater to get answers,” he chuckles.
“Maybe a little. I feel bad about it.”
“You’re scared and you’re worried and this all happened so fast. But Luke is with you and you’ve got all of us supporting and loving you. You should try and get some sleep and I’ll tell Lily everything in the morning. Do you want me to call you so she can talk to you?”
“Yeah, that’d be great. Thanks, Cory.”
“Tell Luke I say hi and that I’m here for you two, okay?”
“Okay.”
“I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Love you, Y/N.”
“Love you too,” you sigh then the call ends. You turn to Luke, the circles under his eyes seem to have darkened and you reach over to touch the shadows on his cheeks. “He said he’ll keep the girls and will call tomorrow so we can talk to Lily. He says hi.”
Luke nods slowly then laces his fingers with yours. He kisses the tips of your fingers, his eyes closing.
**
You and Luke were sent hourly updates on your son. He’s been in the same condition each time, you try to find positivity in that because he’s not getting worse, but he’s also not in the clear yet. When Cory called again with Lily on the phone, you and Luke tried to make your voices sound positive. She asked a lot of questions and wondered when she could come see her new brother.
“He’s a little sick right now, honey. We need him to get better so we can all be together, okay?” you told her and she was silent for a while.
“When are you and dada gonna come home?”
“Hopefully soon, my love,” Luke tells her.
“What about Piggy?”
“Uncle Cal has her at his house,” you make up then quickly look to Luke who’s already pulling out his phone to text Calum.
You’re being horrible parents, forgetting everything like this but all of it still doesn’t seem real. Probably because you haven’t actually seen or held your son in your own arms. Your stitches are healing nicely but your body still seems to think it’s pregnant and that stirs up even more conflicting emotions.
“Be a good girl for your daddy and Ella, okay my sweet?”
“Okay. Can you give my brother a kiss for me?”
“We will, Lily. We love you so much.”
You and Luke tried to occupy your time by watching tv but you’re only watching the bodies move across the screen. You nod on and off but always jerk awake in case you miss the doctor or nurse coming in. Luke comforts you each time, assuring you that there’s no change and points to the screen where you can see your son.
The circles under his eyes only seem to darken with each passing minute. He helps you walk to the bathroom and back into bed. You try telling him he can go home to shower and get more clothes but he refuses.
“I’m not leaving you or our son until I know he’s okay.”
One of your favorite movies is playing on the tv, it’s a black and white film about a couple who adopts a baby girl. It goes through their funny moments trying to figure it all out but it ends tragically with the little girl getting sick. You drifted off before it came to that part and then you were shaken awake by Luke.
Dr. Wilson enters the room with a big smile on her face. You and Luke take hold of each other’s hands, holding onto each other in desperation.
“He’s in the clear. His oxygen levels have elevated and he has a steady heartbeat. It’s still going to be a while until you’ll be able to take him home, he’s still at risk for a lot of infection and we want to make sure his organs continue to develop correctly,” Dr. Wilson explains.
“He’s okay?” you whisper.
“He is. He’s a little warrior.”
“When…when can we see him?” Luke asks.
“Let me check on your stitches first, and if they look all right I can take you down now, if you’d like.”
“Please, please,” you nod scrambling to move your blankets off you.
**
Luke is wheeling you down the brightly lit hallway in the NICU ward, you see other parents hovering around the incubator their baby is in. You and Luke had to be fitted into the light pink gowns with masks and gloves before you could see your son. You were more than okay wearing the odd things if it meant being able to finally see him.
Luke rolls you in between families until Dr. Wilson stops at the last station near the window. A nurse is standing by writing down something on a chart and then you’re right next to his incubator. First, all you can see is a mountain of swaddled blankets with tubes and wires sticking out from every direction. Then you see slight movement and you lean forward and come face to face with your baby.
Tears are rolling down your cheeks as you stare at him. He looks like he could just barely fit in your palms, you see the quick flutter of his heart through his thin chest that has wired tape. You press your hands to the reinforced plastic, the warmth from the light radiates through the gloves.
“Hi, my baby boy, I’m your mama,” you whisper and you’re aching to touch him. You see the two round openings for hands and you move your hands before looking to Dr. Wilson.
“You can touch him, let him know you’re here,” she encourages.
Very carefully, you insert your arm stretching your finger to his small body. You press against his cheek as lightly as you can, he’s warm and that makes you feel better.
“Hi sweetheart,” you continue to talk to him and you hear Luke sniff behind you. “You’re doing so well. Keep it up so you can get big and strong and we can take you home to your big sisters. Your daddy’s here, too.”
Dr. Wilson moves and Luke takes her place. He puts his arm through the opening and strokes his finger down your son’s arm. Your baby trembles a little then leans into your touches. You can’t help the wet smile from forming, he’s perfect. You rub at his forehead gently.
“We need to name him,” you say looking across globe of your son’s new home.
“I haven’t…do you have a name?”
“One popped in my head just now.”
“What is it?”
“Oliver,” you smile glancing down at him. “I was searching through names online and this one stuck out at me. It has a lot of meanings like peace, wisdom, health, and luck.”
“I think it’s perfect,” Luke smiles. “I know he’s only 24 hours old, but he seems very wise to me, don’t you think?”
“Wise and healthy.”
**
Tension has been high between you and Luke. You were at the hospital for a week and a few days more because you had contracted an infection at your incision site. It’s pretty common for an infection but that meant you couldn’t go visit Oliver. Once your infection was cleared you were discharged to go home.
You and Luke moved around each other like orbits just passing by. When you wake in the morning you move about the room like robots, barely looking at each other until you’re ready to go. Cory, Ashton, and the others stayed with Lily and Posy during the day while the both of you went to the hospital to visit Oliver. You missed Lily and Posy terribly and only saw them when they were fast asleep by the time you got home.
You’d even forgotten about Posy’s birthday and it made you feel even worse than you already felt. Your hormones are abnormal and your body still feels like it’s pregnant even though you know you’re not. It’s a weird feeling, it’s a sad feeling because you can’t even hold your baby that is no longer inside your stomach.
To your surprise, Ashton and KayKay had orchestrated Posy’s birthday for you and Luke.
“We have to put on a happy face for Po,” Luke says softly on the morning of her birthday.
Your bodies are set to an automatic alarm because of the hospital visits. You’re staring at the ceiling then roll over to face Luke who is also facing the ceiling with his hands behind his head. You take in his profile, the sharp angle of his nose, his full beard and the smooth skin of his arms over lean muscles. It’s been so long since you’ve touched each other.
Does he miss you too?
“I’m trying to,” you whisper and silently beg him to look at you. To kiss you. To hold you. To tell you that everything is going to be all right.
Instead, he sighs then rolls out of bed. You watch the muscles in his back pull and tighten when he puts on a t-shirt and heads into the bathroom. You flick your eyes back to the ceiling, swiping away the tears that fall anyway. You’re only allowing yourself those two tears because you know you won’t stop once you start.
Luke can’t see you break. Lily and Posy can’t see you break.
“Ash said he and KayKay will be here at ten to start decorating. I want to make the girls breakfast, hopefully make up for lost time,” Luke announces out of the bathroom.
“Good idea,” you nod then will yourself out of bed. You force yourself to not touch your belly, but like every morning, you always do. It’s still a little swollen from the pregnancy and the incision, but you know it’s empty.
Before you grab your satin robe, you glance at Luke who had his eyes fixed on your hands over your belly. He meets your eyes for a moment, looks like he’s about to say something, but he leaves the room.
You’re tired of feeling broken and empty.
**
The girls were ecstatic waking up to you and Luke. Posy was situated on Luke’s hip as he made her favorite breakfast and Lily filled you in on what’s going on at school and with Roman. She talked until Ashton and KayKay arrived and your heart had sunk all the way to your stomach because of how much you’ve missed in Lily and Posy’s life the last few weeks.
You helped where you could with the decorations and then you remembered Posy wanted a dinosaur cake but before you could panic, Cory and Ella arrived with the cake.
You tried to keep on a brave face throughout the party. You helped Posy open her presents, you talked with your friends and family. You couldn’t help the way your eyes gravitated towards Ella who is about 35 weeks along now.
It’s another reminder that you aren’t pregnant and that your baby is in critical condition. You shake it off because you have to. Your phone sends you updates on Oliver by the hour, and he’s remained stable for the whole day which is improvement.
“Thank you so much for doing all of this,” you tell Ashton and KayKay as they’re leaving. Aside from Cory and Ella, they’re the last to leave.
“No problem at all,” Ashton smiles pulling you in for a hug. He kisses the top of your head. “We’re more than happy to help. We’ll plan another one when our boy Oliver is home.”
“We’re all here for you, love you,” KayKay smiles and wraps you in her arms.
“We love you, too.”
“Unca Ash bye-bye?” Posy asks next to you. She looks up at Ashton with big puppy eyes, her arms up.
“Yeah, little one. We need to go to bed, just like you!” he lifts her in his arms and blows raspberry kisses on her cheek. “Did you have fun at your party?”
“Yeah!” she claps her hands.
“Good! Now, you go to bed like mama says and we’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Otay.”
“Love you.”
“Luh you,” she sings and hugs his neck while KayKay takes her hand and kisses her fingers.
“Let’s go to bed, Pose,” you take her from Ashton then wave one last time as they head out the door.
“I’ll be outside, babe. My feet are killing me,” Ella tells Cory then she moves to you with Lily’s hand in hers. “We’ll be here bright and early so you can go see how Oliver’s doing.”
“Thank you. I’m sorry we’re--”
“You have nothing to apologize for. It’s what families do. Try and get some sleep tonight,” Ella touches your arm, her face turns into a frown. “You look exhausted.”
“I’ll try.”
You know you won’t.
She kisses Posy and gives Lily one more hug then waddles outside to the car. Cory and Luke are cleaning up last call cups and you take your girls to their rooms to do their bedtime routine. You try and keep Posy in your arms as long as you can, hugging her and loving on her.
She doesn’t even make it halfway through her favorite book, Where the Wild Things Are, and then you take Lily into her room.
“When can I see my brother?” she asks as you tuck her in.
“I don’t know yet, sweetheart,” you reply sadly, “he needs to get better first. Dada and I talk about you and Posy all the time to him.”
“You do?” her eyes widen in amazement. “Can I bring him a present?”
“I think he’d like that very much.”
“Mama?”
“Hm?” you tuck her snuffy and bunny next to her under the covers.
“I missed you,” she says quietly.
Your heart jolts. You stop fixing up her toys and look down at Lily, your first baby, and she’s playing with the ear of her bunny. The pink bunny she’s had since she first met Luke.
“I miss you, too. I’m so sorry we haven’t been here with you and Posy. Dada and I are going to fix that, okay?” you ask and she nods. You lean down to give her a kiss and a hug, her arms tighten around your neck.
You don’t let go until she does. You shut off her light and close the door, with just a small crack left open. You’re going to talk to Luke, you’ve decided as you head back downstairs. You tried having just one of you go to the hospital while the other stayed home with the girls but neither one of you wanted to be away if Oliver’s health took a turn.
Just as you’re about to enter the kitchen, you hear your name between Luke and Cory.
“Y/N’s in bad shape,” Cory says.
“Yeah, I know.”
“This has happened before, where she shuts down and tries to fix it herself but she can’t.”
“I know that, too, considering she’s my wife.” Luke’s voice is clipped, each word sharp as a knife. You’re shocked at it; he and Cory have always been on good terms with each other.
“Have you tried talking to her about it? Because the way you two were acting tonight was like you didn’t even want to be near each other. She doesn’t need that, not right now when--”
“Look, I know you and Y/N have a close bond. It’s something I’ve tried to understand but I can’t and there’s nothing I can do to change that. It doesn’t bother me as much as it did in the beginning, but I don’t need your advice on how to help my wife.”
What did he mean ‘in the beginning’?
“Yeah? You had no problem taking my help when you broke up with her those three months,” Cory’s voice now has more of an edge to it.
“I’m surprised you helped in the first place. You think I didn’t notice how you looked at her? We’re handling this on our own.”
“You’re not handling anything! Neither of you are! Yeah, I care about Y/N, that won’t ever change and she’s hurting. Bad. If you won’t do something about it, then I will.”
“The hell you will. I appreciate all you’ve done for my family, but you’re crossing a line.”
“Stop.”
You whisper the word as you stand in front of them but it catches their attention. Luke’s hands are balled into fists at his sides and Cory’s body is in a similar defense stance. They look to you.
“I am trying, okay? I’m trying to stay strong and hopeful for Oliver. I’m trying to keep on a brave face for Lily and Posy. I’m trying to decipher which feelings I should be feeling or which ones are still phantom pregnancy ones and I don’t even know if those are real. My body has already fallen apart, I don’t need my family to as well.”
“Y/N.”
“I feel horrible that I forgot Posy’s birthday. How could I forget that? My mind is constantly running and I’m so exhausted but I can’t sleep because I’m worrying. Please don’t fight, I can’t handle it.”
“Y/N... what can I do?” Cory asks almost pleadingly.
Luke scoffs and rolls his eyes.
“I think you should go home. I know you mean well, Cory, but you don’t want to keep Ella waiting in the car.”
“I can--”
“Just go, Cory,” you say in a softer tone. You glance to Luke who is pointedly staring at a spot on the wall then look back to Cory. “Luke and I need to talk.”
Cory keeps staring at you as if checking that you really want him to leave. You nod. He sighs.
“I’m sorry, you’re right,” he steps away from Luke then grabs your hand. “Call if you need anything.” He gives you a squeeze as you nod at his offer.
The door closes with a soft snap and it’s just you and Luke now, all of your demons joined together.
“What did you mean when you said, ‘it didn’t bother you like in the beginning’?”
“I can’t talk about this now,” he shakes his head and shuffles towards the basement door where his music room is.
Good. It’s soundproof and if there will be yelling, it won’t wake the girls. You follow him downstairs.
“We are going to talk about this now. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells with you and I don’t know what to do! We don’t talk about Oliver, so let’s talk about you and Cory!” you follow him until he turns around quickly. His eyes ablaze.
“No, let’s talk about you and Cory. You’re only talking to him about Oliver. You called him right after everything happened.”
“Because he had Lily! You called everyone else!”
“None of them are in love with you!”
“WHAT?! That doesn’t even make sense!”
“When we started dating, I had a feeling Cory still loved you. I saw it in the way he looked at you and he’s been looking at you that same way now. You don’t talk to me about Oliver, you talk to him. How do you think that makes me feel? Oliver is our son.”
“I try to talk to you! But you always pull away! He doesn’t love me like you think he does, and the fact you’re bringing this up now, years later, is ridiculous.”
“Right,” he snorts, “it’s ridiculous that the ex of my wife who is the father of her child still loves you.”
“Yes!” you screech and fist your hands in the air in frustration. “Do you even hear yourself? He’s engaged to Ella. He’s having a baby with Ella!”
“Then why do you talk to him about Oliver and not me? Huh?” he advances towards you, towering over you.
“Because I blame myself every day that this happened and you do, too. You can’t even look at me and I…” you choke on your words; Luke’s hardened expression softens as your words sink in. “I feel like I’m losing you.”
Then you’re gasping for air as the tears you’ve been bottling up come crashing down. Your weird emotions, your worry, your fear, everything you’ve been feeling finally falls out in the open. It crashes between you and Luke like a tidal wave. Your body feels weak and you almost collapse onto the small couch but Luke grabs hold of your waist, his other hand cupping your face.
“Hey, hey, hey, hey. Look at me, look at me,” he rushes out. “I don’t blame you; I could never blame you. This isn’t your fault; do you hear me?” his eyes have a half-crazed look in them and somehow that grounds you.
“W-why wo-won’t you l-l-look at m-me?” you sob coughing out the words.
“Oh, baby,” he sighs then awkwardly shifts around until you fall on top of him on the couch. He holds you tight against him. You’re immediate to wrap yourself around him like a pretzel “It’s because I don’t know what to say. I wish I could make this all better, make Oliver healthy, take all your pain away. I can’t even imagine what you’re going through right now and it kills me to see you like this.”
“I’m a horrible mom,” you cry harshly into his chest.
Luke pushes you off of him and he’s blurred through your tears.
“Don’t you ever say that again. You give everything and a million times more in love to our children. I see how hard you’re trying to keep it together, and it kills me.”
“I’m s--”
Luke mashes his lips to yours and you close your eyes. It’s wet and salty, it tastes of heartache and regret and yet his kiss feels like home.
“You have nothing to apologize for,” he mumbles. “Stop--” he kisses you again “--just stop--” he kisses you once more with his fingers tangling in your hair.
You wanted to be closer to him, feel every part of him touch every part of you but you aren’t past the six weeks mark yet.
“I love you,” you whisper.
“I love you, too. Let’s take a warm shower and talk things out.”
After a warm shower of kisses and roaming hands, you snuggled against Luke in your bed and tried to come up with a plan where you could be home and at the hospital equally. And you both decided that as soon as Dr. Wilson gives the okay, you’re going to bring the girls to meet him.
When you’ve talked and finalized plans, you gaze at Luke as his eyes start to close. You stroke the slope of his nose, itching to ask him about the fight he had with Cory earlier. You open your mouth to ask and then close it just as quickly. Luke’s eyes open up and he pulls you against him, his fingers tickle the skin of your back.
“I know you want to ask, so ask.”
“Why do you think Cory is still in love with me?”
He sighs heavily.
“I don’t. I guess I went back to old thoughts and insecurities.”
“So, you thought he still was at one point?”
“I knew he was because he told me. When we weren’t together those three months, he came by and told me how you and Lily were doing. The way he looked at you...it’s how I look at you. And when he tried to help us tonight…” he closes his eyes and shakes his head in embarrassment. “I was stupid. I shouldn’t have said what I did.”
“I’m sorry you’ve been feeling this way for so long,” you caress his bearded cheek.
“I honestly don’t think about it anymore, it just sprung up in my mind tonight,” he sighs. “I appreciate everything Cory’s been doing. I’ll call him tomorrow and apologize.”
“You know how much I love you?” your fingers brush his damp curls from his forehead that you press your lips too. You breathe in his shampoo, his skin soft and his own fingers slip under your shirt to keep caressing your back.
“About as much as I love you.”
He kisses your chin as you kiss his cheek and eventually your lips find each other.
**
It’s been a month and Oliver is still in the hospital. He’s progressing well and getting stronger every day. Posy and Lily were able to come visit him with Michael and Calum in tow. Posy ran to Luke who he picked up and peppered kisses to her cheeks and Lily ran to you with a little gift bag in her hands.
“What’s this?” you ask her as Luke points Oliver out to Posy, Calum, and Michael.
“Unca Mikey said this will help Oliver feel better,” Lily pulls out a small green octopus.
“I read online that it helps them feel comforted if they can’t be held yet,” Michael explains and you give him a smile.
“Can we give it to him mama?” Lily asks setting the bag on the floor.
“I think that’s a great idea,” you kiss her cheek then stand. “Let’s head inside.”
When you’re all gathered around Oliver, Calum lifts Lily in his arms so she can see him from up above and you slip the little octopus inside the round hole. You press it under his arm delicately, his tiny, tiny fingers latch on to one of the tentacles.
“Baby!” Posy points.
“He likes it!” Lily exclaims and Calum grins at her.
“Of course, he does, it’s from you and Po,” Calum says.
“And me,” Michael grumbles stepping a little closer to the incubator. His eyes soften when he looks over his nephew and you can almost sense his sadness.
“Thank you for getting it for him,” you link your arm through his and rest your head against his shoulder. “It was very thoughtful.”
“How long do you think it will be until you can bring him home?” Michael asks watching his tiny chest flutter with each breath.
“Until he’s at a healthy weight and can be taken off the ventilator,” Luke answers.
“Is he going to sleep with me?” Lily asks.
You and Luke share a look. You hadn’t thought about that. Before all of this happened, you still had a lot of time before you got his nursery ready. There is the playroom you could transform into a nursery…
“No, he’ll have his own room, sweets. When he’s home he might cry a lot and wake you up at night.”
“That’s okay. I can help.”
“You’re the best big sister ever, you know that?” Calum looks to her and she smiles sheepishly.
“Would Crystal help us change the playroom into a nursery?” you ask Michael.
“Definitely.”
“I think we should tell them his middle name,” Luke smiles at you.
“What is it?” Calum asks.
“Well, we decided on Michael,” you grin at Michael whose eyes widen. “You jump started us trying for another baby and when we decided on it Oliver sneezed. So, he likes it and it fits him perfectly.”
“Oliver Michael…” Calum tests it out then nods. “Yeah, sounds good to me. If you guys have another one, Calum’s a pretty kick ass name.”
“That means a lot guys, thank you,” Michael shifts his arm so he can pull you in for a hug. He kisses the top of your head.
**
A few weeks later, Ella had her beautiful baby girl, Violetta. You wanted to give them some time alone before bringing the girls over to their house to meet her. Lily sat on the couch with Violetta resting on a pillow on her lap and Posy sat next to her, staring at Violetta with curious eyes. It was odd to see the size difference between her and Oliver.
“She’s beautiful,” you tell Ella. She just took a photo of the three girls together.
“Thank you. I can’t believe she’s finally here,” she sighs tiredly then glances to Luke and Cory who are talking outside. “Cory told me what happened after Posy’s birthday.”
“Oh,” you clear your throat awkwardly, “he did, did he?”
“I know you two have a special bond, you have a history and Lily…I’m sorry that things escalated like that. How’s Luke?”
“He’s okay now, we talked about it. Ella, I hope you know that I don’t love Cory how I love Luke.”
“Oh, I know! We’re all a big, blended family, sometimes things get messy but I’ve never had a big family before. I adore you and Luke. I’m not upset at all, I understand.”
“Good. We adore you, too,” you smile then gaze at Violetta. You see more of Ella in her than Cory but she also resembles Lily a little.
“Would you like to hold her?” Ella asks gently.
“I’d love to,” you smile then push her back in her seat. “Rest, I bet you’re still sore. Lily, I’m going to hold your new sister now, okay? Why don’t you and Posy go play for a little bit.”
You lift Violetta off of Lily’s lap and the two girls run into Lily’s room. Violetta rests comfortably in the crook of your arm, she sleeps peacefully as you sway from side to side.
“Hi, pretty girl,” you coo. “You are such a pretty little one, aren’t you? Yeah, you get that from your mommy.”
“How’s Oliver doing?”
“Better, they’re talking about taking him off the ventilator soon and see how he does. He’s gaining more weight, not as fast as they want but it’s something,” you smile.
“Good, I’m glad to hear that. And you and Luke?”
“We’re…coping. We’re still trying to find the balance between the hospital and home, but now that Lily’s out of school it’s much easier to come and go.”
“If you and Luke ever want to take a long weekend, the girls can stay here.”
“Oh, no, not with Violetta just being born! I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed—”
“I insist. It will give me practice if we have more kids,” Ella smiles.
“We’ll be outnumbered then,” you laugh. “The kid to adult ratio is even now.”
“You’re right,” Ella laughs. “They’re going to rule our world.”
“I don’t mind, they’re pretty awesome,” you shrug and gaze down at Violetta. You hope you’ll be able to hold Oliver like this soon.
**
Luke’s birthday is approaching and he’s told you repeatedly he doesn’t want a big party or anything this year. The only thing he wants is to hopefully bring Oliver home by the end of the month. You were finally able to hold him and have some skin-to-skin contact.
You sat in the rocking chair next to his incubator and the nurse placed him on your chest. His skin is warm and beneath the starchy hospital smell, he had that natural smell all babies have. You couldn’t help but cry after finally holding him after almost three months of just looking at him. His fingers flexed on your chest before you slipped your pinky between them. He held on tightly.
“Hi baby boy,” you whisper kissing the top of his little hat. “Remember me?”
“How does he feel?” Luke asks, his voice thick with emotion.
“He’s that piece I’ve been missing.”
You could sit there for hours just holding him but you know how badly Luke wanted to hold his son so you changed places. He unbuttoned his shirt and the nurse helped you place Oliver on his chest.
“He’s so small,” Luke smiles fondly. “Hi buddy, I’m your daddy. You’re doing so good getting all big and strong. Your mama and I can’t wait to take you home. We’re going to have a big party, but I promise I’ll make everyone keep it quiet.”
“It’s nice to see you holding him,” you sniff and he starts to rock.
“It was nice to see you hold him, too,” he smiles. “We’ll take him home soon. We’re almost there.”
**
On Luke’s birthday, you and the girls surprised him with breakfast in bed and a brand-new record collection he’s been talking about. Michael and Crystal offered to watch the girls while you visited Oliver. You promised you’d be back by dinner time and you secretly arranged Luke’s favorite food to be delivered.
The two of you sat with Oliver and talked about how far he’s come along. He’s at four pounds already and is now in an open crib rather than an incubator. His organs have developed how they should and he’s had no complications. Dr. Chambers wants him to stay until he’s five pounds just to be sure he’s still gaining weight like he should.
The nurse told you you could try and start breast feeding him soon.
With multiple kisses to Oliver, you left him for the night to continue Luke’s birthday at home. Michael told you the girls wanted to bake a cake and he sent you photos and videos of the whole experience. You couldn’t wait to surprise Luke with the meal.
When you got home you noticed Michael’s car was gone and the house was quiet. There was a big balloon on the kitchen table next to the delivery bag of Luke’s favorite restaurant and the cake the girls made along with a note.
“’Our birthday gift to you is two things: a night alone and a new room. Enjoy your birthday! Love Michael and Crystal,’” Luke reads off from a note. He turns to you with a lopsided smile.
“A new room? What does that mean?” you examine the note.
“It better not be some kinky sex room,” Luke mutters and you nudge him in the shoulder. “Let’s go explore.”
He takes you by the hand and you make your way upstairs to the bedrooms. The light of the playroom is on so you turn in there and gasp. It’s been transformed into Oliver’s room. There’s a beautiful white crib filled with small stuffed animals and a dinosaur blanket. His name is above his crib in block letters and there’s a bookshelf with some trinkets and books.
You page through them and see each one was given to you by your friends with a little message written inside for Oliver. You can’t wait to have Oliver in here, safe and warm.
“I have a feeling Michael is going to spoil Oliver.”
“Probably,” you giggle and turn to face him. He’s looking at the other shelf that holds some clothes and blankets.
His shoulders are broad in his simple black shirt, his curls have gotten curlier because he’s let his hair grow out along with his beard. Your stomach flips as a dirty thought of feeling his beard on the inside of your thighs enters your mind. How’d you get so lucky to have this strong, handsome, talented, kind man to be your husband?
“They’re spoiling us too, you know,” you step closer to him tickling your fingers up and down his arm. He looks down at you. “We have the whole house to ourselves birthday man. What do you want to do first?”
“I’d love to do you.”
You’re both careful as you get reacquainted with each other’s bodies. He removes your clothes carefully and you fall onto your bed, arms stretched out for him. You watch him with hungry eyes as he removes his own clothes then climbs over you. Before he can kiss you, you press your palms against his chest and stomach, feeling his heartbeat and warmth of his body.
“I’ll never get over you like this,” you sigh leaning up to kiss his collarbone.
“I’ll never get over you like this,” he repeats and pushes you back. He falls with you, pulling deep kisses from you before leaving a trail of open-mouthed kisses down your body. He makes sure to kiss at the scar from your C-section. “So beautiful. Every inch of you.”
“Have I told you how much I love your beard?” you ask scratching your nails through the soft hair. “It’s very sexy.”
“Yeah? I don’t look like a lumberjack?”
“You’d make a sexy lumberjack. I wouldn’t complain.”
Soft loving words are exchanged along with wandering hands as he works you up. When you finally connect, you sigh and squeeze your nails into his shoulders. His thrusts are shallow and controlled making sure not to hurt you but also wanting to make this reconnection last.
“Feels so good to be in you again,” he mumbles in your neck. You glide your hands down his back and to the globes of his ass, you give a squeeze and try to make him move faster. “Missed you.”
“Missed you, too,” you sigh turning your head and your tongues connect.
It’s gentle and intimate and your orgasm is slow building but when it washes over you, you’re left in a warmth that you’ve been craving. It’s a warmth only Luke can provide, it’s his love and your love coming together.
Afterwards, you heat up the food and eat it in bed along with the cake. Being cheeky, you swipe the frosting on your finger and drag it onto his stomach.
“Who’s gonna clean that up?”
“Mmm, me,” you straddle his thighs, the shirt of his you wear to bed rides up and you press your hands onto his waist. You lean down and lick the frosting up with your tongue, he sighs heavily beneath you as you lick some more.
When he’s finally clean, your fingers slip beneath the waistband of his boxers continuing your kisses to his half hard cock. You swipe your tongue over his shaft, circling it around his tip and he springs to life.
“Lovie…” he groans.
“Shh,” you hush glancing up at him. His chest is heaving as you take him in your mouth. He groans again, his fingers tangling in your hair but letting you move as you see fit.
You love pleasuring him this way and it’s been so long since you have. You bob up and down, your spit dribbling down his shaft. He moans with each pull of your mouth, his hips rising to meet your motions. You feel his thighs clench so you know he’s close.
“Y/N…baby…lovie,” he pulls you off him then drags you up to him. “Wanna make you come again.”
He pushes himself inside you and you let out a loud moan as you sink down onto him. You start to move but Luke grips the sides of your ass and fucks up into you. Your mouth falls open at the pace, his balls slap your ass and your toes start to curl.
You’re chanting ‘yes’ and his name, the words tumbling over one another and you’re coming again. With a small scream you feel Luke pull out as his release is expelled between you. You’re pulsating and his fingers twiddle with your clit so you’re still coming together.
When you’re both finished, your breathing is hard and you giggle when you open your eyes. His cheeks are a little pink and he has this glazed over expression on his face.
“I think we should go clean up, hm?” his fingers tickle your thigh and you tremble at his touch. You nod.
You used a washcloth to clean up leftover frosting and his orgasm. Luke kisses your neck and your shoulders before he moves to the large tub and turns the taps. When the tub is full of bubbles and the jets are on, he holds you in his arms. The records you bought playing softly in the background.
“This reminds me of when we first started dating,” you say playing with his fingers. “We couldn’t keep our hands off each other.”
“If I had my way I’d want to do this all the time with you,” he chuckles in your ear before nibbling on the lobe. “But we have other responsibilities.”
“We’ll be able to bring Oliver home soon, right?”
“Of course, we will. This is just temporary until he’s five pounds. You’re going to be able to breastfeed and he’ll gain that one pound so fast.” He kisses your temple next and you sit in silence for a while.
“Did you imagine any of this happening when you met me at the coffee shop?”
“No, but I wouldn’t want my life any other way. You’ve filled my life with so much adventure and love. I never pictured myself with three kids, but I couldn’t imagine my life without them, or you. Did you imagine our life like this?”
“No,” you smile against his arm and kiss it. “But it’s the best. I’m thankful Oliver has come along this far, and Posy is our rambunctious girl and Lily is starting to become her own person now. It’s all happening so fast but with you beside me…I don’t have enough words to describe it. You’re the love of my life.”
“And you’re the love of mine,” he collects you in his arms. “We’ll bring our boy home soon.”
**
On August first, you were told you could bring Oliver home. You couldn’t even believe it but when Oliver’s NICU team and Dr. Chambers and Dr. Wilson showed up with balloons and a farewell card you started to cry. You hugged and thanked them all from the bottom of your heart and promised to keep in touch.
Oliver would need frequent doctor visits until he was about three to check his prognosis but you were so happy to bring him home finally. Luke called everyone while you got Oliver settled in his carrier, you made sure to put his octopus next to him. You sat in back with him while Luke drove, you couldn’t stop looking at Oliver. He’s grown so much and he’s healthy and strong.
You notice all of the cars parked along the street and you’re welcomed with your family as you and Luke enter your home. There’s a banner above welcoming Oliver home finally. You appreciated them all keeping their distance and not overcrowding Oliver, but you were happy they were all there to welcome your sone home.
Lily and Posy couldn’t stop looking at him in his carrier while he slept and Posy kept bringing some toys to show him. Everyone stayed for another hour and then you had to feed Oliver. He squirmed and cried because you woke him but you were on a tight feeding schedule so he would stay on track. Lily and Posy watched curiously as you breastfed. Luke watched fondly and then he told the girls their lunch was ready.
All four of you stayed around Oliver until it was time for him to go to bed—then you’d be feeding him in a few hours. Posy and Lily snuggled with you and Luke on the couch as you all watched a movie, their giggles at the animations jokes filled your heart with joy. Luke reached over and took your hand so he could kiss it, mumbling an ‘I love you.’
You were finally a family of five, home and safe.

AO3  / C1: A Day In June : C2: Definitely, Maybe : C3: So We Meet Again : C4: Friday Lunch : C5: Finding Solid Ground
XXXXX
“Are we on for lunch next Friday?” she asked, three blocks away from her home.
“Actually, I’ll be going on a two week business trip to London.” Jamie answered. “I need to look at our office down there, catch up with our staff and clients”
“Oh, I see.”
“Yeah, sorry, I didn’t mention it earlier. But my schedule is going to be cramped.”
“Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s work!” Claire bumped his arm with her elbow. “Message me when you’re back and settled and let’s catch up then.” she followed, hoping to keep communication lines open in line with what seems to be a long break.
“I will.” Jamie noted that offer. “How about you? How is your week looking?”
“Uhm, between my rounds, surgeries, and department duties” Claire counted with her fingers for emphasis. “My days are pretty much full. Lunch, late evenings and the weekends are generally my free times.” The answer also serves as an indirect information Claire hoped Jamie would figure out about how unpredictable her time and availability is.
A brief silence and then Claire asked the question that was on her mind since the afternoon. “Erm, why didn’t you tell me you were popular?”
“What?” Jamie chuckled. “What is the world are ye talking about?”
“It has come to my attention that you, Jamie Fraser, apparently, is one of Scotland’s most eligible bachelors.” Claire said and Jamie groaned.
“Ugh, how’d you find out?”
“Geilis mentioned it earlier. Apparently, there are magazine pictures that I should see. She’s showing me her copy on Monday.” she added, earning another joking sigh. “I wondered why it never came up and/or why you didn’t tell me?”
“One, I thought you, at least, knew. I mean, it was in a national magazine. Second, it’s not the first thing I share with the people I meet. How would you feel if I said, ‘Hi, I’m Jamie Fraser, did you see my photo on Tatler?” he saw her tilt her head and stick her tongue in feign disgust. “Exactly.”
“I guess that’s a valid point. Still - I guess, I’d rather knew about myself first or you.”
“I’m sorry, Sassenach. It just comes with working at a local, historic business, keeps us afloat, ye know. I’ll warn ye ahead of time of any write-ups about me out there.”
“What’d ye call me?” Claire stopped walking.
“Hmmm?”
“You called me a Sassenach?” she raised her eyebrow.
“Aish, it’s not as bad as ye think it means. It just means Englishwoman, an outlander, not from Scotland.” Claire didn’t look convinced, forcing Jamie to explain further. “It was my first thought about ye when you slipped under my umbrella. I guess it kinda stuck and is what I’ve been calling ye in my head.”
“Mhmm, alright.” She shook her head and smiled. “This is me”
Jamie looked at the Georgian building and took note of the place and surroundings. “I guess, I’ll see you in two weeks.”
“I’ll see you in two weeks” Claire waited briefly if Jamie had anything else to say or do but when he didn’t move, it was her cue to leave. “Bye, then.”
“Bye.” Jamie watched Claire enter her home and when she was safely in, he walked back to his car, berating himself if he missed a big opportunity.
--
Claire reached the emergency room and immediately asked for a patient in the nurse’s station. “Tammas Baxter?”
“Bed 4” She quickly went to where the nurse pointed and opened the curtain to find a pale, sickly, boy, a frightened grandma, and a fidgety young lady.
“Hi, I’m Dr. Claire Beauchamp and I’ll be checking on Tammas today. Are you his family and what seems to be the problem?” She asked the ladies on the other side of the bed as she examined his physical state.
“Yes, we are. I’m Mrs. Fitz, his grandma and this is Laoghaire, his cousin. He came home from school this afternoon and just started vomiting and developing a head and stomachache.”
Claire leaned down and smelled Tammas, having a hunch already on what the boy might be going though but she needed to confirm. “Tammas, my name is Claire. I know you’re in pain right now but I need you to tell me something so we know what medicine to give you, okay?” The boy nodded weakly.
“Did you eat this?” Claire shared a photo on her phone and despite his frailty, everyone saw the panic in his eyes looking from Claire to his grandma. Claire looked at the old lady as she soothed rather than scold her grandson, telling her he was in no trouble and just needed to tell the truth. With that, the boy turned to Claire and gave a nod to confirm her suspicions.
“Thank you, good lad.” Claire patted the boy and proceeded to order her treatment to the nurses. “Get blood and urine samples, hang an IV and start to give him a dose of anti-poisoning”
After getting a clear from the nurses, Claire invited his guardians outside to explain his situation better. “Hi, Mrs. Fitz, was it?” the older lady confirmed and she proceeded to explain the situation. “Tammas ingested a plant called Lily of the Valley. It is incredibly poisonous and you made the right decision to bring him in immediately. We caught it at the right time and we’ll treat him with fluids and medicine and we’ll observe him in the next couple of days until his situation improves. He’ll be just fine.”
Mrs. Fitz sighed in relief and then hugged Claire which she returned. As a pediatric surgeon, she’s already used to these moments but it always warms her heart when it happens. Mrs. Fitz then asked her niece to check on admitting Tammas and left. They checked on Tammas again, the boy now asleep after being medicated.
“I’ll check up on him before my shift ends. I’ll ask the nurses to page me if anything changes on his condition.” Claire said, signing his chart and placing it back on the caddy.
“Thank ye, Doctor.”
“Please call me Claire”
“Ye know, it was my nephew who told me to go straight to the ER and look for Dr. Beauchamp. He didn’t mention, though, that Dr. Beauchamp was a pretty lady.”
A blush threatened to creep Claire’s cheek but she kept her composure. “Jamie called ahead as well, told me that you were coming. I was free and was able to come down to the ER. I’m happy to help”
“And how did ye know it was poisoning right away?”
“I dabble in medicinal herbs sometimes. The plant has a distinct smell that I picked up while I was examining him. Jamie also had a hunch and told me about a tradition with the boys about eating the plant as a right of passage. Between those two, it kinda showed itself.”
“I see. And how long have ye known Jamie?” Mrs. Fitz found the opening and she took it.
“Not too long.” Claire smiled and answered honestly. Just then, Laoghaire returned with documents for them to sign and she excused herself out.
As Mrs. Fitz finished the paperwork, her thoughts flitted back to Claire. When she asked about Jamie, she somewhat expected the lass to immediately gush all over him as what she’d experienced with his previous affairs.
But what she found, instead, in their short conversation thus far, was a genuineness that was incredibly refreshing to see. She didn’t know the extent of their relationship, yet, but for whatever’s worth, she knew Jamie found a good one.
---
“You were right, it was poisoning. Yep, no - he’ll be fine now, Jamie. We’re treating him and should be able to go home in a few days.” Claire put the phone on speaker as she signed documents in her office. It’s been a week and a half since they last saw each other and due to the nature of their jobs, they’ve texted sporadically, just catching up or checking in, here and there. But, today, the emergency forced them to communicate more directly and urgently to which each of them welcomed.
Jamie was on the other line, wanting to hear the update himself. “I told the lad not to do it and he still did. Mrs. Fitz might not have a thing to say anymore to him but I might have”
“Like you were not a ten year old that broke the rules before.” she gruffed.
“Still, my da told on me.”
“Jamie, I’m sure Tammas would have plenty to hear about it by the time you come back.”
She heard a sigh on the other end and she knew she’d saved the lad against more scolding from his family. “Yer right. I’ll just settle for a really, really stern look and not give him his presents”
He can hear her roll her eyes and moved to change the subject. “Who accompanied Mrs. Fitz, Sassenach?”
Claire smiled, still not use to the name but truthfully, she liked it because it came from him. “A granddaughter, I think her name was Laoghaire.”
“I see.” he said plainly and Claire caught on.
“Anything you’d like to share?” she pressed but instead the call ended and rang again, this time a video call.
Claire was surprised but took a quick look at her mirror and accepted the call.
“Yes?”
“Nothing. Just wanted to see how are ye”
“You called after I mentioned Laoghaire. That is suspicious.”
“There’s nothing to tell other than, she might have a wee crush on me, Sassenach.”
“A wee crush. That explains the weird look she gave me earlier today.”
“What weird look?”
“Like she was sizing me up or something. Didn’t last long, though, Mrs. Fitz had her do all the errands earlier.
It was Jamie’s turn to make a face and shrug. “Don’t let her get to ye, Claire. I’m no interested in her”
“Oh yeah? Why so?” she quipped back.
“For starters, she isna my type and…”
Claire cut him off, “Alright, alright, no need to say more” a laugh bubbling as Jamie looked so serious on her screen. “Anything else, you need to say, Mr. Fraser? Some of us have to work here.”
She saw Jamie scratch the back of his head, turn red, and hear the shuffling of his feet. “Erm, Claire, would you be free this Saturday evening?”
She looked at her calendar, “My schedule is free so far”
“May I have the pleasure to take you to dinner then?”
“Are you asking me out, James Fraser?” Claire asked, eyeing him adorably. She was not at all surprised that their lunches would eventually become dinners. It was only a matter of time. If they we’re not interested in each other, they had stopped meeting a long time ago.
“Aye.” Jamie replied, anticipating her answer.
“Pick me up at my place around 7:00?”
“It’s a date, then.”

Stumbled into Anguish Blind
Patton was grateful for his job as a paramedic. Saving people was worth all the stresses to him. But he never thought one of those people would be his own son.
Tumblr media
@badthingshappenbingo Prompt: Ambulance Ride
AO3 Link
Pairing: Familial Moxiety, Prinxiety
Warnings: Gun shot wounds and blood but not terribly graphic depictions of them and the shooting takes place off screen, a character in pain, near panic attacks
Word count: 3032
I am not a medical professional. I did do research but please forgive it if it’s not 100% accurate.
While Patton was grateful for the job he had, he couldn't recommend it to just anyone. Being a paramedic was hard, and incredibly stress inducing. To hold the life of someone in your hands was terrifying. But saving peoples lives - that made it all worth it.
Patton had helped and saved many people during his years as a paramedic - but he never once thought he'd have to save his own son.
That day was supposed to be a happy one. After Patton helped Virgil work through his anxiety of driving, he finally got his license. And with this newfound freedom, Virgil had been able to get a job keeping stock at the art store, with perks such as discounts and limited interactions with customers.
Patton was so proud. Virgil was going to go out with his boyfriend, Roman, and use his first paycheck to look at upgrades for his drum-set. Afterwards, Patton was going to treat them to dinner.
He was glad they weren't embarrassed to spend time with him, like some teens would be. He was blessed with such a great pair of kids.
During breakfast, Patton explained what Virgil needed to do with his paycheck at the bank. After repeating the steps a few times, Virgil felt fairly confident. And Roman was going to be with him, anyways. It seemed that boy was scared of nothing - least of all social interactions.
But how were any of them supposed to know there would be an armed robbery that day?
How were they to know that a gun would be shot?
When Patton got the call and heard the location of the incident, he almost shouted in panic.
"Please," he prayed as the ambulance sirens blared. "Not the kids."
He and the other paramedic, Harley, ran up the ramp with the stretcher as police officers yelled for people to move out of the way.
When they ran inside, it took everything Patton had to not collapse on the ground and scream.
Virgil was on the ground, breathing heavily as he clutched onto Roman's arm. Roman was on his knees, holding his jacket against Virgil's chest.
Patton was grateful Roman's favorite color was red. He thought he would actually faint if he had to see more of his sons blood than was already visible.
It wasn't until Patton knelt next to Roman, now able to hear the soft assurances he was whispering to Virgil, did he notice they had arrived.
"I'm sorry," Roman managed to choke out through his tears when he saw Patton.
"No, no. It's not your fault," Patton manage to say, fighting to speak through the the tension building in the back of his throat. He replaced Roman's hand holding the jacket. "Thank you for taking care of him."
"Dad?"
"Hey, baby. I'm right here. Everything's gonna be okay."
Roman pushed himself back and watched as Virgil was lifted on the stretcher.
"You're okay, honey," Patton found himself repeating as they boarded the ambulance. "You're okay. You're okay."
Virgil grasped at his dad's hand, and Patton had to bite his lip to keep from crying when his son whined as he pulled his hand away.
"Sh, sh, it's okay. I need to put the oxygen mask on you. I'm still right here."
Patton placed the oxygen mask as Harley cut Virgil out of his shirt. He felt Virgil's hand grip tightly on his shirt in place of his hand and Patton really wanted to cry right now.
But he wouldn't. He couldn't. This was his most important patient. He had to be professional.
But it was hard to be when Patton could barely hear himself over the pounding of his heartbeat in his ears. He and Harley replaced Roman's jacket with a proper gauze to keep the pressure, and Patton couldn't help it as a few tears escaped his eyes as he watched Virgil's eyes squeeze shut and his teeth grind in pain. Patton wanted to sob every time he placed a bandage and Virgil winced.
"I'm sorry, baby. I'm not trying to hurt you. This is helping, I promise.
It wasn't long after until Virgil's eyes closed and his body went slack.
"Virgil? Virgil! Come on, honey, stay with me," Patton cried as he worked on an IV. Why couldn't he do more? Why was there so little he could do in this ambulance why couldn't he just fix his boy-
"His breathing is destabilizing. We need to give him an endotracheal tube," Harley said as he immediately set to work. Patton's hand moved on autopilot as he helped, and more tears did fall as he watched Virgil's chest move up and down from the tube. That wasn't him breathing it was the machine because the bullet had pierced his baby's lung.
The trip to the trauma center had never felt so long. Had it always been this long? Eventually they were finally able to get the door open and bring Virgil into the trauma center where the waiting doctors took the stretcher from them and rushed Virgil in for emergency surgery.
It wasn't until Virgil was out of sighed did Patton collapse to the ground and finally let himself cry.
His sobs carried down the hallway, and Patton didn't even care that his coworkers were staring at him. The nurses were staring at him. But how could he possibly care when he couldn't be with his son-
"It's going to be okay," Harley said. When had Harley sat next to him? When did he curl into his knees? "You did good. They're going to fix him up in there and everything's going to be okay."
"He's hurt and I can't even help him-"
"Hey, you did help him. No, you weren't able to remove the bullet yourself but you kept your head on straight and got him here in good condition."
Harley pulled Patton up from his knees and held him in a hug. "It's okay, Patton."
Patton rested his forehead on his shoulder. "Thank you. For your help."
"You are very welcome. Come on, now. Let's get you off the floor."
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
Patton was, understandably, not on call for the rest of the day. He had paced around the waiting room for the first ten minutes of waiting, but he was exhausted from stress and collapsed into a chair - elbows on his knees and resting his head in his hands.
He didn't look up until he heard frantic footsteps coming down the hall. He panicked for a moment, worried it was a doctor with bad news, but saw it was only Roman.
Patton stood as soon as he saw him and the two met in the middle of the room, Patton holding Roman tightly against him as Roman buried his face into Patton's chest.
"I'm sorry," Roman whispered into Patton's chest. Patton felt tears soak into his shirt. "You trusted me with him and I couldn't even-"
"Hey, no no no," Patton murmured as he led Roman to the chairs. "None of this is in any way your fault."
Roman let out a sob, and Patton pulled him back against him. Roman was a tall boy, but here in Patton's arms he seemed so small.
"And you knew exactly what to do. He was hit in a very critical place, and you saved him from a lot of blood loss by putting pressure on it. I- I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't done that. Roman, you helped him as much as I did in that ambulance."
Roman's tears turned into quiet sniffles, and Patton lifted a hand to gingerly wipe the tear streaks off the boy's face.
"Is he okay?"
Well, no. But he was okay as he could be.
"He's doing fine," Patton assured. "The surgeons are going to take good care of him."
That seemed to finally make Roman relax. He nodded and sat up, wiping his eyes of the last of his tears.
"How did you get here so quickly?" Patton asked.
"I took Virgil's car. He gave me the keys because he didn't want to drive from the bank, since traffic was going to get worse in the afternoon. You know how busy Main gets. I hope you don't mind."
"That's just fine, Roman."
Patton wasn't going to chastise him for driving with only a permit. Not now.
About another hour passed. At one point Roman rested his head on Patton's shoulder, and of course Patton didn't mind. It was nice to have the grounding weight resting on him as he texted family members about what happened.
He felt guilty for not calling, but there was no way he could talk about it and not break into tears again.
The two snapped their heads towards the entrance when they heard footsteps walking down the hall. A doctor walked in and saw them.
She was one of the doctors that took Virgil from him.
"Mr. Sanders?"
Patton nodded.
"The surgery is finished. Everything went fine. He should wake up soon. I can show you to his room."
Patton and Roman quickly stood, and the doctor grimaced.
"And what is your relation?"
It took a moment for the dazed Roman to realize she was talking to him.
"Oh, uh, I'm Roman. I'm his boyfriend."
The doctor, who Patton was now close enough to he could see her name tag read Dr. Taylor, shot him an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry, but only family is permitted in before he wakes up."
Patton saw tears build back into Roman's eyes, but he just nodded.
"Okay. Yeah, sure," he said, mouth trembling as his fists clenched his jeans.
"I'll come get you after he wakes up," Patton said, placing a hand on Roman's shoulder.
Roman nodded again, and Patton gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze before following Dr. Taylor out of the waiting room and down the hallway.
Patton couldn't ignore the sound of Roman crying as they walked away.
"The bullet shattered one of his ribs, but besides that, and the penetration into the chest, thankfully no other major damage occurred," Dr. Taylor said. "We had to give him a chest tube due to some internal bleeding, though the endotracheal tube we were able to replace with an oxygen mask. So he should be able to speak when he wakes up."
Patton had to focus on counting the clicks of his shoes on the tile to keep his breathing steady.
The two stopped in front of a door and Dr. Taylor put her hand on the handle.
"He's on some pretty strong painkillers, but he should still be cognizant when he wakes up. If anything happens, press the red emergency button by the bed and me and the other doctors will come rushing back."
"Thank you," Patton managed to say through the rising dread in his throat. Dr. Taylor opened the door for him.
Patton stood in the entryway until he heard the door click shut behind him. Once the click snapped him out of his trance, he rushed towards the bed and immediately burst into tears.
There was his baby. Virgil's face was pale but thankfully no longer grimaced in pain. His chest was gently rising and falling, no longer due to a tube down his throat. And though Patton had seen similar sights before plenty of times, seeing all the tubes stuck in his baby's body made Patton collapse on the chair by the bedside.
God, what he'd give to take Virgil's place. To take all his pain away. Patton rested his head in his hands, trying yet again to stop his crying.
"Come on," he thought. "You have to be strong. For him."
He took a deep breath, and the pressure in his throat weakened slightly. He could do this. He could be strong.
But all that resolve fell as soon as he heard a soft, weak voice say “Dad?"
"Virgil!" Patton cried as he leaned towards him, being careful to be gentle as he took hold of Virgil's hand. "Hey, sweetie. I'm right here. I'm right by you."
Virgil's eyes blinked as he got used to the lights. A slight grimace of pain was back on his face, but at least he was awake.
Patton barely managed to catch the hand Virgil lifted towards his oxygen mask, being preoccupied with wiping his tears. "No, kiddo. You need that."
Virgil's hand dropped against the crisp bed sheets. Virgil looked at his hospital bed and all the tubes stuck in him, and Patton's heart shattered as he started crying.
"Shit," Virgil hissed as he lifted his arm with his IV.
"You know, we were just leaving when they ran in," Virgil said, a pained smile on his face as he laughed, though there was no humor in it. "If I hadn't been such a chickenshit and just went in when we got there instead of needing a pep talk from Roman to go into a bank then I wouldn't have-"
"Honey, deep breaths," Patton said as he stood and very gently wrapped his arms around Virgil, holding him as tight as he could without fear of hurting him. "Do not blame yourself." Matching tears fell down Patton's cheeks. "None of this was your fault. There was no way you could have known this would happen. I will not let you continue to beat yourself up about this, understand?"
Though Patton could feel tears falling onto his shoulder, Virgil nodded.
"I'm so glad you're okay," Patton whispered. "I love you so much, you know that?"
"I love you, too, Dad."
There was nothing Patton wanted to do less than let Virgil go, but he could imagine the hug couldn't be the most comfortable for him. So after placing a kiss to the top of Virgil’s head he sat back down, but grabbed hold of Virgil's hand again.
"At least I don't have to run the mile in gym anymore," Virgil said after a beat.
Patton started laughing. It was hardly from the joke, but more so from the relief that was washing over him that yes, Virgil was hurt, but he would be okay. He was awake and joking. Virgil started giggling along with his father, and once they would stop, one could start laughing again and the cycle started all over.
Eventually, they both calmed down.
"No, I suppose you don't," Patton smiled. "I have yet to contact the school. But I'm sure they will understand your... predicament. And I'm sure your friends will be more than happy to help you with your notes.”
Virgil's smile suddenly dropped and his eye's widened as he jolted up, wincing from pain but not retreating.
"Roman. What happened to Roman??"
"Roman is fine," Patton assured. "He's in the waiting room right now."
Virgil visibly relaxed and sank back against the bed.
"Would you like me to go get him? He's anxious to see you."
"In... in a minute," Virgil said as he closed his eyes. "I want to see him, really, but you know he can be..."
"Enthusiastic?"
"Loud."
Patton chuckled. "Okay, baby. Just tell me when.'
One of the nurses walked in, and he was delighted to see that Virgil was awake. While another nurse came in to talk to Patton about Virgil's road to recovery, the first nurse checked some vitals, seemed satisfied, then gave Virgil a bit more painkillers. The painkillers seemed to help Virgil's mood, and he sent Patton to fetch Roman.
Roman's head was in his hands when Patton walked in. He looked up as Patton walked towards him, and when Patton nodded, he bolted out of the chair down the hallway. Patton had to hurry to catch up.
After opening the door for roman, roman rushed to Virgil's bedside, and Patton came in to see Roman pressing kisses all over Virgil's face while crying.
"Oh, Virgil, thank God you're okay," Roman said, openly crying as he placed his hands on Virgil's cheeks. "Oh, sweetheart, darling, love, I was so worried about you-"
Patton didn't even listen to the rest of what Roman said - He had to keep himself from laughing at the two of them. Roman was waxing poetic while Virgil sent mortified glances to his dad. But Patton thought it was pretty adorable, to see a teenager talk that way.
"Yes, I'm fine," Virgil said as he made weak attempts to push Roman off him. "I'm happy to see you but please stop, you drama queen."
Roman laughed and pressed one more kiss to Virgil's cheek before stepping away.
Roman didn't even seem embarrassed as he turned back towards Patton with a large grin. He just put a chair right next to Patton's and promptly sat to take Virgil's hand.
"Remus wants to come see you, too," Roman said as Patton went to sit next to him. "He's on his way with Janus. And he already asked if he could keep the bullet."
"Nope. If anyone gets to keep the bullet, it's me."
Patton shot him a look as he sat next to Roman.
"What?" Virgil asked. "It'd be badass."
"Okay. I excused the first swear word, but you are very much nearing the swear jar again, mister."
Patton was going for stern, but he just couldn't stop smiling. And he wasn't really upset - not when he got Virgil to smile.
"Remus may fight you for it," Roman continued.
"He can't fight me. I was shot."
"I don't think that'd stop him."
"True. He did throw Jason down a flight of stairs even after he broke his leg."
"He did what?" Patton asked. Virgil smirked at the horrified look on his face. "Why would he do that?"
"He was making fun of Janus.”
While Patton didn't dislike Remus, and he was glad Virgil had such a good group of friends, he was very happy Virgil was dating Roman and not his twin.
"And don't let him know I told you this, but he was really worried about you."
"Aw. I knew he loved me."
Virgil looked at his dad with a large grin on his face. And seeing Virgil smile again, really smile, well, that was enough to let Patton know that everything was going to be okay.
Prompts are open for both Bad Things Happen Bingo and general prompts :)

Promise Status, Broken
Warnings: fake death, blood, taking shirt off, drugging, hospital setting, needles, conditioned response, mention of torture
He plunged the knife into Hero's abdomen and pressed. He pressed until the hilt was hardly visible under the layer of blood that pooled around the open wound. He pressed until Hero's stuttering breaths stopped.
And he let the dead body fall to the ground with a thump. Villain put his boot onto Hero's dull face and kicked. She didn't deserve kindness, dead or alive. Villain pulled the knife out.
Suddenly, the dark shed that he committed the long overdue murder was infiltrated by an eerie white glow.
"Hero," came a breathless gasp. Then the shocked voice changed into a professional order, "Hands up where I can see them!" A gun clicked.
Villain slowly turned around. His smug attitude and cockiness was apparent as he held the bloody knife deftly between his fingers. The blood dripped to the ground with a splatter.
"Drop the weapon," a young police officer yelled. "Drop it."
Villain smirked. The police officer was so tiny. Villain was muscular and very agile. He could've just tossed the knife and mortally wound the officer if it wasn't for the sudden flash of white in the back of his head.
Villain collasped forward, falling onto his side. He blinked, trying to dispel the dizziness and stars. The dark room seemed even darker like a black abyss. The moonlight he saw earlier was all muddled into a blob.
Through his swimming vision, Villain saw the young police officer swoop down to pluck the prey off the ground. He cradled Villain's lolling head with a fake concerned look on his face. Villain blinked, squinted, did everything in his power to focus on the young face.
The officer must've realized Villain's effort because he said, "Do you know who I am?" Villain shook his head. To him, it was an effort, an effort that cost the room to tilt and Villain to sway. But in reality, it was the weakest thing.
"Recognize me now?" The officer said in a deeper voice. Villain's brain very slowly placed the voice with the face of Hero's sidekick.
"Sidekick," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Good boy," Sidekick rubbed the side of Villain's head. It sent a new flare of heated pain through his body, centering on his head. Villain tried to jerk himself away, managing to break free of Sidekick's grasp. The only thing it added up to, however, was two more arms catching him before he toppled to the ground.
"Dizzy?" Sidekick said in a babyish tone. Villain didn't answer. Everything burned and ached and it was getting harder and harder to stay conscious.
"You just murdered Hero, Villain, why?" Sidekick asked.
Villain's cognitive skills weren't one hundred percent, so his tongue spoke before his damaged mind had a chance to catch up.
"P-promise... m' status... broken," Villain whispered. He just wanted to fall backwards and die. Oh, would that be sweet. But the arms supporting him kept him up and awake as nails dug into his skin. It was a new sensation, one Villain never experienced before. Nails into the skin.
Sidekick's once serious face turned into one of pure childish curiosity. "Walk," he sneered. "We are walking to the car."
Villain felt himself being lifted onto his feet. Then, he felt all of his weight relying on those two support beams. He swayed, determined to stay upright.
Dizziness once again ran its course as Villain stepped forward- one teetering step at a time. He let out a groan, and a moan, and a whimper, and a- the list goes on.
Villain did not remember stepping into the car. The second his body touched the seat, he was out. Sidekick had to move his head so that he wouldn't break his neck going over a bump. He sighed and stared sadly at the poor Villain's head. It was necessary, very necessary, or Hero wouldn't have been able to escape.
"Thank you," came a pained voice. Sidekick spun around to see Hero limping forward. She had her hand protectively covering a bruise on her stomach. Sidekick sighed in relief and embraced her. The extra padding and fake blood worked well.
"I should be thanking you," Sidekick laughed. "If you didn't hit him, I would be dead."
Hero's happy face contorted into a much more serious expression.
"Why did you make Villain walk like that?" She asked. It was very rude, and practically unnecessary. She couldn't help but think that Sidekick wanted to offend Villain. She glanced at the sleeping, limp figure in the back of the car. Villain's blood from a nasty gash that Hero caused with a metal bar, pooled around him. She grimaced in guilt.
"Hero?" Sidekick asked.
"You never answered my question," Hero snapped. She ignored the painful bruise and glared at her sidekick.
"If we didn't have that protection on, you would be dead," Sidekick defended himself.
Hero scoffed and said, "Don't make excuses for your actions. We both know that it wasn't his fault that he turned out like this."
"He could've control his emotions, turned to goodness, not anger," Sidekick pointed out and pursed his lips. "He's not the innocent one."
Hero closed her eyes shut for a moment, replaying a memory that haunted her for a long time.
"I promise to always be there for you," Hero told Villain as she hugged him under the stars when they were nineteen, three years ago.
"Promise?" Villain's sweet voice cracked, absent of the usual sarcasm. Of course, he wasn't a villain then.
"I promise."
The next week, Villain was kidnapped by Supervillain.
"Don't look for him Hero, he's as good as dead anyways," her sidekick told her. Sidekick always saw the practical side of everything, so Hero assumed he was right.
The next year, Hero stumbled upon a broken body in an alleyway. Her heart lurched as she examimed the countless injuries. Broken ribs and nose, bruises littered the torso and his lungs struggled to take a breath. Hero tentatively pushed the skinny arm of his face and she gasped in horror. It was Villain.
Villain was alive, not dead.
Hero didn't hesitate to lift Villain's severely underweight body up and bring him to a hospital. She sat by his bed until he woke up a couple days later. She was beyond exhaustion at this point, and was so relieved to see Villain conscious that she nearly broke down in tears.
But a small, weak voice stopped her emotions from letting loose.
"Promise status," Villain murmured, his eyes already closing. Hero didn't register the words right away, she just tried to shake Villain awake. "Broken," he finished his sentence. Only then did Hero realize the meaning. She never looked for Villain. She just left him for dead, assuming the worse. After Villain's eyes slid closed, she noticed how conditioned the sentence was. It wasn't even a complete sentence. More like a robot repeating its task over and over, "Cycle One, Complete. Cycle Two, Begin. Cycle One..."
Hero, knowing she really shouldn't, laid her head on the bed, too tired to stay awake anymore. She hated the way Villain spoke to her, but was ecstatic to know he could wake up. So she slept.
Maybe two hours later, she woke to Villain scrambling up in fear. All the monitors started screaming. Without thinking, Hero pressed the HELP button, which only added to the piercing noise.
"Villain, hey, hey," Hero tried to soothe, which only resulted in Villain jerking back so hard that the IV ripped from his arm. Blood splattered everywhere, but that was the least of Hero's worries. Villain's hands went up to his mouth, yanking the oxygen mask off. In one split second, the previous rage settled into a slight panic. His chest heaved, unable to breathe properly.
Shortly after, the nurses rushed in with a syringe that contained a clear liquid.
"What is that?" Hero asked, instinctively stepping between the nurse and the terrified Villain.
The nurse hesitated before replying, "We need to calm him down before he hurts himself and others. It's just a sedative."
Hero shakily stepped out of the way. She felt useless watching the nurse inject Villain with the needle. She felt useless seeing his eyes widen in fear.
After a few minutes, the wildness in Villain's eyes were replaced with a tired look. His muscles loosened and relaxed as his breathing deepened. Another nurse rushed in with an oxygen mask.
Very soon, Villain's eyelids slipped completely shut. Hero and the nurse slowly lowered him into the bed.
The nurse laid their hand on Hero's shoulder and squeezed sympathetically. When she left, Hero sunk down into her chair and took Villain's hand in her's. She brought her finger to the bandage that covered his wrist and rubbed it. She thought of how she just left him to suffer under Supervillain's wrath. It wasn't fair.
A horrid thought struck her. What if Villain wouldn't trust her anymore? He already seemed to be terrified of her. However, that could also be due to the hospital setting.
"Hero!"
Sidekick's voice dragged Hero from her flashback and so did the repetitive snaps of his fingers.
"Oh sorry," Hero gave a half-smile and walked to where Villain was sleeping. She sat down next to him, crunching his legs so she could fit.
"Are you seriously sitting back there?" Sidekick asked, leaning against the open door.
"Yes," Hero said, bringing Villain's feet onto her lap. "Of course." When she saw the look on Sidekick's face, she added, "He can't do much at the moment."
Sidekick still gave her a doubtful look, but jogged over to the driver's side and hopped in. Hero shut the door.
They drove in silence until they reached Hero's base. It was a small buidling, but had a couple cells, medic lab, and many bedrooms. It was mainly known for the gorgeous decor, both outside and indoors.
Hero and Sidekick worked together to bring Villain into one of the medic rooms. When Sidekick rushed to find Doctor, Hero took the time to examine Villain's physical health other than the bloody wound on his head.
Hero gingerly lifted his shirt, but then put it back, too scared to actually see what was under there. When Villain was discharged from the hospital, the doctors told her that the psychological healing would take awhile, especially since he would be reminded everyday with the scars. She took a deep breath and looked.
The criss-crossed scars made her want to vomit. They lined his muscles, putting unnecessary dents into the perfectly lined abs. Trying to ignore the marks, she tried to find the positive things. He was much more physically in shape than she had ever seen. All the lost weight was returned to him.
Footsteps sounded so she put his shirt back, trying to dispel the image now engraved in her mind.
"You whacked him hard," Doctor commented, examining Villain's head. "But he should be able to recover with minimal damage, but we will see. I do want to take tests and do a scan when he wakes up." Doctor cocked his head and then asked, "Is he better?"
"What do you mean?"
"Has he recovered from Supervillain? The last time I saw him-"
"No," Sidekick interrupted. "He was trying to kill Hero."
Yeah cause we let him, Hero thought, but remained silent.
"Hmm," Doctor mumbled. "Expect confusion for a couple days." Then he left.
Sidekick and Hero hovered over Villain's bed, silently. Hero recognized that things seemed to be more quiet between them, but didn't dwell on it.
After a moment or two, Sidekick left, leaving Hero alone. Again.
She sat next to Villain and held his hand like she did a couple years ago. It was the same setting, just a different hospital.
Suddenly, Villain's hand jerked away from Hero's touch. She looked up at him, fear coursing through her body. He just tried to kill me, she told herself over and over.
"Promise status, broken," Villain said. "Promise status, broke. Promise status, broken! Promise, promise..." Villain voice trailed off as he looked around the room. "Promise status, broken," he whispered and closed his eyes. Hero gently shook him.
He looked at her, evil eyes meeting righteous eyes. Hero couldn't help but feel yet another twinge of guilt.
Villain, in his delirious state, could not recognize the figure in front of him. She was pretty, was all he could think, and the same words. "Promise status, broken," was the only thing his tongue allowed him to say. Nothing made sense, nothing at all.
But what didn't make sense the most was when the girl leaned forward and took Villain's head in her hands. He wanted to recoil backwards and escape the misery, but she was stronger and the blinding headache made little things impossible.
"Don't worry. I am gonna fix you up... I promise."

✿: feeling so out of it, they need constant attention
You’ve got it! 💕  Thanks for the ask!
Someone asked me to write asthmatic Matthew in the ER a while ago, and I didn’t do it, but here it is now. 😂 I hope it's not total trash.
Sweet Normalcy
Word Count: 1555
Chest pain, the dull aching kind that flares up every time he inhales, that’s all he feels. Keeping his eyes open takes a great deal of effort, but the constant hissing flow of nebulized albuterol being delivered through the mask on his face makes it hard to get any sleep. Maintaining a train of thought for longer than fifteen seconds is also a sudden challenge. When he rolls his head to the right and looks up at the monitor behind him, he sees his heart rate is in the 140s and his oxygen saturation is at ninety-five percent on albuterol and oxygen. That’s not normal for him. None of this is normal. He can’t remember the last time things got this out of control.
“Matthew? Any better, love?” Dad asks him from the chair to his left. He’s been sitting there for hours now, continuously keeping vigilant watch.
It’s a busy night in the emergency department, and it feels a bit like he’s in a bad fever dream. The doctor checking in on him introduced herself earlier, but he can’t recall her name. An alarm goes off every few minutes from someone’s monitor, and it takes him longer than it should to recognize that it’s his monitor making that noise and alerting his nurse to keep coming over to assess him due to his seesawing oxygen saturation and heart rate.
Matthew’s not even sure what time it is anymore. He barely remembers anything. Every hour or so, he will doze off into a fitful half-sleep for twenty minutes or so before waking again and feeling disoriented. A nurse could tell him he’s been here for a week, and he’d believe them.
“Matthew? I asked if you’re feeling any better?” Dad asks again, leaning forward in his seat to grab his clammy left hand and squeeze it gently.
“A little,” Matthew lies, for his father’s sake. He wonders where Alfred and Papa are. They were here earlier, he’s pretty sure.
“I can tell when you’re not being truthful,” Dad sighs, squeezing his hand harder. “You’re not improving. You need to be admitted. This is ridiculous. You should have been admitted hours ago.”
Matthew hates seeing him stressed like this, but he also knows there’s nothing he can do about it at the moment. He feels himself slipping into momentary sleep again, and his eyes flutter shut. He wants to go home. Wants to be in his bed…Is it morning yet?
“Sixteen-year-old with a history of asthma…Patient accompanied by his father. Patient began oral corticosteroid treatment two days ago at home after experiencing wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing that was not fully improving with usual rescue medications…”
They’re talking about him—Matthew realizes that much, at least. He opens his glazed eyes and sees a new doctor approaching him. His ID badge says he’s a critical care doctor. Matthew’s not sure what the difference is between him and the other doctor he saw earlier, but he honestly can’t be bothered to care. He wants to sleep. Desperately. And he wants the chest pain to stop.
“Matthew, buddy?” the doctor says, putting a hand on his shoulder.
He doesn’t want to breathe anymore. His chest hurts too much, and speaking would require taking another agonizing breath.
"Mmmrgh" is all he can manage.
“He’s been less and less responsive,” Dad supplies from the other side of the room, and Matthew can hear the nervousness in his voice, which is unsettling. Dad rarely ever shows how anxious he is when someone’s sick. “I can’t get him to talk to me in full sentences anymore—just phrases.”
The doctor carefully sits him up, and Matthew feels his whole body shake. He rests his elbows against the stretcher to brace himself. A cold stethoscope touches his back, and he shivers.
“He’s still not moving air. He needs to be brought upstairs to intensive care to be monitored. We’ll continue IV steroid treatment and continuous albuterol. If he’s still like this, we can consider non-invasive ventilation and take it from there. Our main priority is to protect his airway.”
Dad says something, but Matthew doesn’t hear it over the noise of the nebulizer. He just knows he’s going to be moved soon and the treatment is going to become more serious now. If he weren’t so tired, he might be scared.
The doctor leaves, and Dad goes back to holding Matthew’s hand. “It’s going to be all right, love. You’ll receive better care soon and hopefully, you’ll start to feel better,” Dad tells him before using his other hand to pet his head. “Try to rest. I’ll be right here, and I won’t let anything happen to you, understand?”
Matthew nods. His eyes do close again, and he does get some brief rest. The next time he’s aware of his surroundings and wakes up, he’s already in the ICU, which means he slept through his transport. The respiratory therapist is setting him up on a BiPAP machine, and once it’s on, it makes his chest hurt even more, which he didn’t think was possible. He grits his teeth against the pain and tries not to make a fuss about it—it would just make Dad worry even more. The air being forced into his lungs is welcome yet excruciating at the same time.
But he doesn’t have to say anything for Dad to know he’s suffering. It’s written all over his face. “I know, poppet. It’s just temporary. It should help.”
It’s so exhausting that he falls asleep again without even needing to think about it. Again, he has no idea how much time passes until he sees the sun shining through the windows of the hospital, indicating that it’s finally morning. The BiPAP mask squeezing his face gets replaced with a regular oxygen mask again, and it occurs to him that his chest feels much lighter and his head is clearer. The worst is over. The air in his lungs feels crisp and refreshing...Almost sweet, even.
“How are you feeling?” Dad asks for the millionth time, still perched next to him.
“Better…For real this time.”
Dad hasn’t slept, of course. He never sleeps in such situations. He was likely watching him all night and conversing with his care team. “Good. You gave us all quite a scare.”
“Sorry.”
“Oh, no, it’s not your fault, love. Not at all…Do you think you’re feeling well enough to have some breakfast?”
“Yeah.”
Dad gives him a relieved smile and then goes off to request a breakfast tray for him. It gets brought up within half an hour, and even though Matthew feels a bit nauseous from the steroids in his system, he knows he needs to eat to gain some energy back.
He’s given some pancakes, a fruit cup, and orange juice. He decides to make a move for the orange juice first because his mouth feels incredibly dry and gross. He picks up the carton and that’s when he notices just how shaky he still is. His hands are trembling violently from all of the bronchodilators in his system.
Dad quickly takes the carton from him, sticks a straw into it, and then brings it back up to Matthew’s lips. “Here, poppet, I’ll hold it for you.”
“…I can do it.”
“You’ll spill it. Don’t be stubborn.”
It doesn’t feel great to have poorer motor skills than a toddler, but Matthew sips some juice through the straw anyway, allowing himself to be fed because he doesn’t have a choice. He finishes the entire carton, one pancake, and half of the fruit cup before his stomach protests. Dad doesn’t seem too happy about him not finishing the meal, but he doesn’t push it either.
And just as he’s finishing up, he finds out Alfred and Papa are outside of the unit, waiting to be allowed in. He’s only permitted to have two visitors at a time, so Dad leaves to take a quick trip home to eat and shower while Alfred and Papa take watch next.
“Dude, you’re alive! Thank God, man. No offense, but you were looking really rough and out-of-it yesterday,” Alfred exclaims upon arrival, bright-eyed and full of pep as always. “It’s good to see you’re looking more like yourself now.”
“We’re so relieved, mon chou. Your father said you may be able to come home as soon as the day after tomorrow.”
“I hope so…Sorry for making everyone worry.”
Alfred throws his hands up in the air and shakes his head dramatically. “I have to teach you everything, don’t I, Mattie? You’re not supposed to apologize for being sick. You’re supposed to milk it for all its worth and make everyone feel bad for you and buy you get well soon gifts. Tell Dad when he comes back that you wanna play the new Pokemon Snap on the Switch.”
“That’s what you want to play, Alfred.”
“Yeah, but we can share it, right?”
“Alfred, your brother is seriously ill, and all you’re thinking about are video games again! Where did your father and I go wrong? You could show some sympathy!” Papa scolds, pinching the bridge of his nose in aggravation.
“It was a joke! Kinda…Obviously, I love ya, Matt! I was really worried, too!”
And he has never craved normalcy as much as he does now.
Yup. Things are already going back to normal.

Note
He did? Umm.. what happened exactly?
(referring to this post)
my 11th grade chemistry teacher had an associates degree in liberal arts.
you know how in virtually every class you’ve ever had since middle school, your teachers made a big stink about the syllabus? she didn’t have one. this was her first teaching job, which she got because of her length experience as a substitute, not by her licensing qualifications. we were, at first, excited to have her, because she was a “fun sub” and we were 17 years old and stupid as all shit. we were the “normal chem” class in a system where the only other options were “honors chem” which was filled with children who actually know how to study (or cheat) and have an air of proper student activity, and “AP Chem”, which is clear enough if you’ve been an american student in the last 15 years.
she followed the mcgraw hill chemistry book in order of chapters, despite the fact that our state standardized tests did several of the chapters out of order. ever notice how you’ll suddenly be looking at chapter 11 when just last week you were on chapter 5, then the next week you’re on chapter 8? standardized testing is the reason. anyways by asking my friends in other classes who had chemistry teachers of relative competence, i was able to discern which chapters i should focus on, and while she was distracted with literally watching youtube videos all period, I was turning around in my seat and walking across the classroom helping my friends and enemies with the packets. (she was a two-packets-a-week kinda teacher.)
yes i said enemies too. the people i hated, i hated because they were sons of bitches i wouldnt piss on to put out a fire. i hated them so dearly i used to pray to god that they would bump into me so i could throw myself into the concrete and split my forehead open and get them expelled due to the blood-clause of our “zero-tolerance policy”. two of the kids in my class had, only the previous year, attempted to set my hair on fire.
i hated the teacher more.
it gave me extreme pleasure to see her fume and clench her fists when a student would say “i need help” across the classroom and she would move to get up and they would say “oh not you miss, im waiting for vicky.” jesus christ the only time ive ever felt a comparable high was when i was at a halloween party in college where i was literally so zooted i couldn’t move.
it got worse over time, her getting more and more angry, my ego growing larger and larger. i was a huge bitch in high school, i really thought i was the smartest bitch in the room at any given moment. severe main character syndrome. imagine that kind of person actually being right for 45 minutes out of every day. can you even comprehend the kind of frustration that would create? in a room full of little sociopaths who dont give a shit about anything but getting this joke of a class over with so they can graduate? your first real teaching job and they look right past you, the teacher, to this annoying little shit whose grades are completely abysmal? how are they managing to learn anything from a child who can barely speak in front of more than 10 people? who turns cherry red in the face of literally every authority figure in the building except you? who can’t concentrate and stay still in one spot for more than five minutes? all of your other classes behave! they listen! they sit down and shut up and do the packets! so what fucking gives!!!
so you say “fine, since you all HATE ME so much i just won’t teach then!!!” on literally week fucking ten of teaching. and instead of prostrating themselves before you, begging you to like... point at transparencies and read directly from powerpoints i guess.
and they all collectively say “okay” and let the chipmunk child flutter between desks and help them memorize formulas and mnemonic devices and shit. surely her grades will suffer if she’s constantly dealing with other people and you’ll have justification that her horseshit is “distracting” and “a detriment to her studies”. she got bored gave up on that after two days after nothing changed.
then we did the midterm.
except at the end of the exam packet was something we never learned because again, she was going through the book chronologically. because i actually enjoyed the chem book (so much that i stole it when the year was up lmao), i knew the material.
it was about lewis dots/structures. i couldn’t tell you a damn thing about it today but in december 2010 i absolutely knew that shit. i didnt have too much of a problem with it in the exam, but the students who had gotten to that point were complaining and at first she pulled that “you should have been studying independently uwu” shit but the class was about to get loud during exam period so she shushed us and said that when we get to that point, just stop, and she’ll mark it correct during grading, no harm no foul just keep it quiet. one of the more confrontational students called horseshit and said theres no way we’re trusting that and there’s definitely no way anyone will keep an entire classroom cheating at the instruction of the teacher quiet.
i offered to teach it.
she scoffed, rolled eyes, said “sure fine but you can’t get your exam back” and i said “okay.” so when everyone was to the point in the exam, we piled them all on her desk and i used the whiteboard to briefly and quietly explain lewis dots, used the book examples and problems, and helped the other kids understand. there were a couple exam questions that were lifted straight from the book problems so i skipped those. while teaching i realized i had gotten a couple wrong which sucked :( it was an incredibly stupid experience overall, and no teacher worth the paper their certification is printed on would have allowed that to happen. and fucking yet.
anyways everyone but me got their exams back and finished it and many of us passed, only a few of them did particularly well.
discussing the chem exam with friends who also took the chem exam, many students found their anecdote about the lewis dots to be confounding, for you see, the exam we took was not, in fact, the midterm, but the god damned final.
she had us taking the fucking final because she didnt read the fucking folders which read “midterm” and “final exam” on them
she was reprimanded severely and we all had to take the exam on different days, in different classrooms, sitting very far apart. after that she hated me even more. like girl it was your fault lmao i am literally a teenager grow up lol. anyways you can imagine how much more fucking insufferable i became, knowing how miserable she was.
it all came to a head in february when some students were giggling quietly following a minor fuck up on her part regarding bellwork. they were making fun of her like “are you sure thats not tomorrows bellwork lol” and a friend next to me did the “hey i need help wait no miss not you sorry” thing and when i answered him, she solidly snapped. blah blah YOURE SOOOO DISTRACTING blah blah YOU THINK YOURE SOOOO SMART DONT YOU blah blah blah and she was like demanding i leave the room and shouting at the top of her lungs at me “ YOU POISON THE MINDS OF EVERY OTHER STUDENT HERE. YOU’RE POISONOUS VICTORIA, YOU’RE A VIRUS IN THIS CLASSROOM.”
i will never forget that line as long as i live. it was like crack to me. i moved to open the door to leave and the vp opened it first. he escorted me to the office and asked me what happened, then told me to keep my head down in class from now on, and that if i wanted to help my friends i should give them my number and help them out on our own time. i was like “bro thats really stupid” and he was like “thats all we can do right now but i promise we’re working on it”
i lasted the rest of the year giving smug smiles as we did packet after fucking packet for the rest of the year. they were all take-home work. i wasnt comfy giving my number to my enemies. the class camaraderie ended.
the final was altered. my class took a different final than the rest of the normal chem classes.
i started 12th grade and got a solid case of senioritis. i told that story to anyone who would listen. while it was happening, i obviously told my favorite teacher everything as it happened. when i mentioned it senior year he was like “oh yeah i forgot about her,
she was fired over the summer.”
