A small discussion. We all know ghoatbusters is autisti media, but can we talk about how all the ghostbusters are definitely neuroatypical (except for Winston).

So this is my Thread(i will only be using the movies but i could add so much more with the Real ghostbusters):

So let's start with the easy one, Egon is Obviously Autistic, he is the steriotypical autistic person, blunt, which shows difficulty in communication, has a hard time with socialization and has repetitive and behaviour. (Yes, those are the main 3 traits to define autism according to the dms-5 ), but we can add in some other stuff like he restrictive eating and hyperfocus that arent defining traits but are also associated.

Now let's go for Ray, i see a lot of people mentioning of autistic behaviour related to Ray and well due to Dan himself being autistic. but i will throw a thing out here, Ray has ADHD Not autism, specifically the mixed adhd which brings in the lack of attention along with hyperactivity. (i know the spectrum shows differently in each person but this is my headcanon and what i observed) So lets start, he is very impulsive, and take actions sometimes without even thinking, plus very active, childish, and he lacks a lot of attention like they'd be talking about a thing and stantz would trail off or even start something without even considering causes, like with the proton packs, ray was the first one to offer himself even if it is a nuclear weapon. He could go overboard like when he is asked to scream to the mood slime and goes over the top, and now that's not necessarily a adhd characteristic, but it's common, he is very adoptive and quickly witted.

Now, for the one no one ever talks about when mentioning about neurodiversity in ghostbusters and my favourite Venkman.

Oh, how do i start with this one, thats the most AuDhD person, in the movies the phrases like "Good or bad is a bit fuzzy in my mind" or "dont stare at me you have the bug eyes, im sorry" both the situation, of not exactly understanding the morals or social effects and of not liking to be stared at, (he barely looks at people faces while talking to them) The lack of feel and being rather apathetic, being calm to react to stuff, like on the second on thr mocie when they were being judged and he was telling louis exactly what to say and yet extreme impulsive action, like the way he behaved with peck, his extreme sincerity and plus even tho he is very communicative his ways of communication are very directed as in the need to alrewdy have a theme or create a move. he needs a topic to communicate with people, like i found it so stupid that he used the experiment to hit on the girl on the first scene then he used jokes to die out his anxiety and he is not very expressive and to actually talk to dana he used the excuse of the ghost hunting, and the way he began to freak out about the ectoplasma (now obviously im over exagerating) could be seen as sensory issues, much like ray he also gets side tracked and distracted a lot. It's hard to have two voices in ya head telling the most logical and other one telling the impulsive intrusive thought, and he shows the mixture of the two perfectly. and if you want to push even farther in, we can discuss dislexia. The fact he has to ask Ray to read certain words for him and tell him what it says is already very interesting. (Adding in Bill murray is not openly autistic, but there were mentions about it in old interviews and some stuff in different people mentioning the possibility. but for the section of factuality, let's say no)

It could've been an accident or not, but here we have it. this is my belief that none of this is canon. im not Dan nor Harold remis im just a person who really likes those characters and is also Autistic.

You know that flavor of ppl who aren't like homophobic by the strictest definition. Like they don't hate queer ppl and are even enthusiastic to co-exist with them but are like. Weird about it. Not in the "I'm fine with queers i just dont want them shoved down my throat" bc thats just homophobia but like the gluten free version of that.

This phenomenon is more harmful irl but im pulling examples from fandom bc thats where i spend most my time online these days and shipping is inconsequential enough to discuss. If a boy and a girl interact at all in one scene theres immediately a whole community for their ship and no one bats an eye. But shippers of gay ships that dont interact are filled with ppl who lord them as their "uwu gay babies" and shippers who are normal about it get plagued with ppl asking them for "proof theyre a couple." And when you do the same for a straight ship ppl retort with "this isnt hurting anyone so leave us alone" which could be a reasonable argument. But the same ppl using that for their straight ships are also the ones asking for cited sources that the author didnt intend for characters in a gay ship to be entirely straight.

Same with other queer headcanons. Trans hcs will have ppl saying that "i PERSONALLY never saw them as trans your headcanon is valid but i need you to give me an essay on your reasons bc WHY WOULD THEY BE TRANS." Ace headcanons are similar except with ppl also telling the hperson with the ace headcanon that they ship this character with someone. And ofc theres the "arent characters allowed to be friends" argument which again. Is valid. But the ppl making that for queer headcanons also often parade screenshots where a boy and girl in a show look at each other and say "this is proof theyre canon."

And maybe its just bc ive been into more queer media lately but these kids of ppl are worse when the media actually has canon queer characters? Ppl flock to the safe and canon gay ships and use that as a shield against accusations of bias. They CANT be homophobic or even biased against queer people because look! They thought it was cute when these two secondary girls held hands! This character has gay dads and this person supports that! They just want you to write an academic paper to justify your ship existing because YOURE the crazy one whos bringing shipping into everything. No one has to reexamine their implicit biases whatsoever. It feels performative.

Ofc this also extends to other biases. The main character of this book is black so the fandom cant be racist. Thats why its perfectly fine for them to hyperfocus on the angsty white boy in the secondary cast and ignore the main poc characters. No one needs to think about why that consistently happens in every fandom like this. This main character is a girl! And shes also a Strong Female Character whos quirky. So we dont need to think about how the fandom lauds around the male villains as sexy and write pages of meta on their motivations and then call female villains "bitches" and talk about the graphic ways they should be killed and maybe sexualize them if theyre conventionally attractive but in a more dehumanizing way than the male villains. And ofc if you call fans out for this, they jump behind the shield of "liking diverse media." Which makes them immune to accusations of bigotry. This is also true for creators of media btw.

Anyway its like. I would rather deal with these kinds of ppl than actual homophobes, especially regarding non fandom topics that actually affect irl ppl. But also these people are so much more annoying than actual homophobes. Bc like. If you tell me you support queer ppl then act like it, you know?

re: your most recent post izaya is a pretty twink with an ego and veneer of composure and untouchability in addition to having a very dangerous occupation, an abundance of bad karma, and not that many people in his life who would care if something happened to him (haha… unless?) like i actually cannot think of a more suitable candidate for whump fiction than him 😭

oh no i ABSOLUTELY understand the appeal and i even have one of my own cooking up in my Brain Meats, i just think its funny that EVERYONE instantly saw izaya and wanted this specific thing to happen to him even today, considering rape fics are kind of taboo to write about, like- people will DEMAND some kind of justification over why youre writing it if you do amything thats deemed Wrong such as show the rape happen, focus too much on it, focus too LITTLE on it, etc... rape is (understandably) touchy subject and it tends to get fandom in particular riled up because of the general puritanism going on

not to say that there arent wrong ways to handle a rape scene/rape fic- i heavily dislike rape as cheap drama, where it happens and is never brought up again in the fic, or leans too heavily into the ultra gratuitous- which is NOT the same as whump or extreme angst imo. theres a difference between a hyperfocus on the rape as a plot point and a way to dissect izayas character, which includes reactions to trauma which could include things like repeated breakdowns and things people deem "wangst," BUT the end goal is to portray what the author thinks would happen if izaya were to get raped

but things that just are gratuitous exist for no reason other to torture izaya- but wait, you might think, your icon is from "breaking izaya," famous Rape Doujin! whats the difference?

the difference is, rape porn knows its rape porn. it doesnt pretend to be an insightful, introspective look on rape or a rape aftermath. it's meant for weirdos with noncon kinks (read: me) to yank it to and markets itself as such. in a way, gratuitous whump fic is the written version of noncon doujin, kind of?

the line between "acceptable gratuitous" and "unacceptable gratuitious" is VERRRYYYYY blurred and can vary from person to person- for instance there are a lot of people who think noncon doujin shouldnt exist at ALL!

but yk there is a certain good and bad way to write about rape, but you... kind of only need to worry about that if you want your work to be a serious look on the subject. but there is a certain clumsy way to write even gratuitious sadiatic whump that ends up treating the subject matter with less weight than it deserves

what the fuck spurred this rant on lmao. i just have a LOT of thoughts on writing angst and whump as its Kind Of My Whole Thing as a writer- i write good angst and i'm known as The Angst Guy that WILL make you cry. and i have written rape into stories before! quite frequently actually, but not as explicit whump; more story beats that contribute to the backstory and current personality of the character. so i dont know much about rape whump in particular so i might be a bit off base here

anyway yeah uhhhhhhh rapefic rant. rape does not look like a real word anymore
