guess who made a khaki skirt that would put bella swan to shame
so I recently got a sewing machine and made a practice skirt using some old fabric I had leftover from star wars films I used to work on. It’s ugly as shit but I learned a lot and I’m excited to try something new soon
Its 2 yards gathered and the fabric is too stiff and not as full as i would like. it was pretty difficult to sew through but it was originally supposed to be jedi clothes so it wasnt optimal all around. I plan to scrap the whole thing for fabric so I didnt finish it off 100 percent with hemming and sewing the pockets on.
Thanku to @papallion for linking me a placket tutorial bc while it didn’t come out great I think I understand how theyre at least supposed to go in now. I had to hand-fell it and the fabrid was still too thick to comfortably sew through that many layers also i’m using an archery glove as a thimble
I did manage a french seam which I am very proud of! My biggest goal for this project was to use actual professional garment making techniques rather than the way I used to slap together my old cosplays.
I did figure out that 1. my stitches are not straight and I have to practice a lot with getting them to look nice and 2. i had all of the mechanics of the waistband correct but i didnt realize which side would need the topstitching so I know to double check that for next time so i dont wind up hating it
I just purchased 5 yards of muslin so my next projects are going to be to make some cute historically inspired petticoats and undergarments because those arent supposed to be seen and its okay if they arent 100% perfect
