I haven’t sat down and listened to music in a long time, but here are ten songs (in alphabetical order) that I’ve been listening to, as demanded by the wonderful @thyqueerblueberry​ :

1. All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix Not a second of this song is skippable. Mesmerising.

2. Come On Baby Dance With Me by Shakti with John McLaughlin Exactly what it says on the tin. Comforting and joyful and you will want to dance with someone.

3. Cornfield Chase by Hans Zimmer At least this time it’s not from Inception.

4. In The Heat Of The Moment by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds Blame my TUA rewatch for this.

5. Know How by Young MC My go-to writing background song if I ever need one. The words just shoot out when this is on, I swear.

6. Noir By Sunmi Quite a popular K-Pop song. Give it a listen.

7. Only Happy When It Rains by Garbage Listen.. HYYH yoonkook. That will be all.

Guess at a Timeline (assuming Aug 30th is as far as all the events go):

May 25- Suga is with his girl in his apt. Scene with cig/lollipop

May 31- Hobi and Jimin are in the dance studio, girl comes in with cake for Hobi, Hobi remembers being abandoned by his mom

June 5- Namjoon sees his girl for the first time on bridge

-maybe around here Suga gets the call about JK’s accident (could be a bit earlier), and also proceeds to have a breakdown/lash out at his girl

June 14- Jungkook sees his girl for the first time--he is in the hospital in a wheelchair, presumably from being hit by a car 

June 18- V sees his girl for the first time--he buys the things she is stealing

-sometime around here, V and his girl proceed to become friends, graffiti up the bus stop, and then V turns himself in

-RM takes the bus where he gives his girl the ponytail and gets off at said bus stop

-around here JK is off crutches and sees YG’s girl performing with his lighter

-honestly, at any given point post their first scene, JM could hurt himself (die?)/JH tries to save the girl (Jimin?)

Aug 30 - Jin goes to meet the girl with the diary where she then gets hit by a car / Jin does not meet the girl

Questions: Can the boys remember their alternate timelines as well? In the 2nd vid, V looks nostalgic apparently thinking of his time with RM in HYYH--or were those clips just for us viewers? Or was that the SAME timeline???????

-leading me to, is the HYYH timeline the same as this one, and the BST Japanese one/BST short films separate ones?

-When Jin is driving to see the girl, is he having problems/struggling bc he senses that things are now going wrong with the boys? Is it a figurative scene completely? Why does time reset on this particular day?

-lots of theories about the girls...not sure which is true. seems clear that they aren’t actual people tho

-my biggest ???? is JH and JM’s story bc it seems the most speculative

Thoughts (and more questions):

So, it appears that the boys were friends in this timeline at some point (yes?) bc we see JK reminisce about playing the piano with YG/YG is upset about hearing of the accident, and bc it appears that NJ recognized V’s graffiti (maybe?). What happened to them in this particular timeline to make them have a fallout?

Anyway, in V’s other timelines, he was always a graffiti artist/troublemaker. In one, he is with Namjoon when they get caught and it’s all kinda fun. In that same timeline, perhaps that is when he kills his dad. In another (or the same?), he gets arrested for the graffiti alone and is brought in for questioning where he chooses RM as his call, and we know that RM can’t answer it. Perhaps it is that timeline where he killed his dad as he says he has no family (if it is a separate one to begin with)? Could be that he killed his dad in both timelines. In the BST Japanese vid, he’s completely off the chain--probably let his demons about killing his father take him over to change him entirely. Now in this timeline, he seems like he’s actually behaving, but sees his girl (his past? his conscience? his own representation? his temptation?) stealing, and eventually falls back into what he has always done in all previous timelines. Instead of getting caught, he turns himself in this time around--his character is maybe slightly more mature in this timeline. We see RM appear at the bus stop later--is RM going there to get V, or is it a coincidence? Don’t know if he killed his dad in this timeline or not.

JK was hit in the Run MV, and this is still true in this timeline. It appears though, that when he was hit this time, he was NOT friends with the boys at the time it happend, bc in the letter Jin says he finds out by a call, and clearly YG does as well. His storyline seems quite simple--mostly of trying to get back on his feet. YG in the other hand, seems to be highly affected by the news of the accident and goes into a frenzy. In his poster, he is in the hospital. Did he visit JK? When? There is nothing in the vids that point the the theory I read of him being a donor for JK/dying in the process, so I’m going to say that that didn’t happen. We don’t really get a conclusion as to how YG is left off...the last we see him is when he is freaking about the call.

So, JH was abandoned by his mom. I think that is a new bit of info that is true for all his timelines. In previous timelines, he struggles with a sleeping disorder/mental issues/pill addiction? We’ve seen him in a hospital bed, we’ve seen him collapse randomly, we’ve seen him in a self-contained room...in this timeline, however, he seems to be doing OK mentally from what they show. His abandonment issues are shown in perhaps how the girl is a replacement female figure in his life. I also think a strong theory is that the girl and Jimin are one and the same--Jimin feels pressure to be there for JH bc he knows that JH needs someone, but is himself struggling with issues (self harm? depression?), and does not feel like he is ever good enough. He is filming the girl (the version of him that gives JH comfort, is there for him, is his brighter self?) bc he wants to be like that all the time, but really feels like a fake/a bystander. I do think his falling/washing off the blood is very likely a self-harm scene, but I also think it could be more metaphorical to where he is struggling with being that bright person (the girl--she is there with him in the dark studio), and he feels that he fails. He then tries to wash away his past deeds/what he views as his negative qualities. If it is self-harm, then JH tries to save him, only to fail and JM dying (as we see JM perhaps watching him in the rain, and turning away--giving up). OR, if it is more metaphorical, JH then tries to be the support for JM, save him from his own destructive thoughts, but similarly, JM is too far gone in his own self-hatred to be saved.

RM’s story is also very simple, like JK’s. All of their scenes take place during the day and do not seem to have tragic endings at all. RM seems a bit lost and wandering...if the girl is a representation of something, it could be his want to do something, but only being able to do the minimum. Perhaps how he feels in his connection with V?

Jin is the guy trying to save everyone--is he the only one that knows about the time loop? If the girl isn’t real, maybe she is the representation of him believing he finally figured out how to make a happy ending, only to realize it all fell apart anyway (which goes with the narration). The second time around he now knows that there is more work to do, and doesn’t fall into thinking everything will be OK just yet. He struggles with accepting that he can’t seem to change the events--he seems to be trying to be in control of the others’ stories, but it’s all very fucking confusing. He’s the one filming them, dealing with the petals, taking pictures, watching them...but there still isn’t a happy ending and a bunch of whack shit happens in what I guess are different timelines. The BST Japanese vid is wild--V is fucking evil, everyone is tripping like...that was a messed up time warp. If i start thinking about how BST in general fits into this I’m gonna lose it. But we do get that scene of Jin and RM in the gas station--when would that have fit in? In one of the time loops where Jin was checking in on him in some way...but which timeline? Does it even matter? ffs....

Anyway, what are your fave bts hair styles and/or outfits ?

Hello anon! It's taken me 3 days to rewatch ALL the M/Vs since debut but now I feel like I have a solid handle on these choices. I went with favorite overall style for the official M/Vs and disqualified all videos/stages where one member had a clear style advantage (such as solos). I also gave myself a limit where no M/V could be "the best" for more than one member.

Here's what I have:

Best Style for Each Member:

Seokjin - Fire, which gave him platinum blonde hair with the pink button-up blouse and black jeans he poured himself into. He spent half the M/V standing in front of open flames rubbing his lips and no one shut up about that look for weeks. Honorable mention to Butter for styling him like an 80's villain because he sold that with pure charisma and top-tier shoulders.

RM - Black Swan, which gave him a black suit with his hair pushed back and so many fucking ACCESSORIES I almost passed out thinking about his fingers. I've been nursing a fresh crush on him ever since that damn video. He looked angry and expensive and if he keeps that look for a decade, I'll support it. I want villain Namjoon.

Yoongi - He's had so many good eras in terms of style, but my favorite M/V look is Not Today where he had natural hair with black and red leather pants and a gray hoodie with a red jacket. It looked like clothes he'd actually pick for himself and while I know at least 30% of the fandom swears by Mint Yoongi from HYYH, Yoongi's runner up has to be Fire when he was a silver-haired fox and had us all replaying that "bultaoreune" scene over and over and over.

Hoseok - Truly, I haven't cared for a lot of Hoseok's M/V outfits through the eras and feel they don't put him in the best stuff compared to other members. I ended up with a tie between Save Me (layered shirts, ripped black jeans, peak boyfriend who unconditionally loves you) and Airplane pt. 2 (Japanese version, with the silk rope and layered necklaces where he could be both comfortable and lethal like he bought the place). Hoseok makes up for BigHit's lame choices with raw power, magnetism, and getting to have some of the best concert outfits. His runner-up is definitely Blood, Sweat, and Tears because he made panties melt while wearing *checks notes* fucking animal print and metallic dress shoes, a combination that shouldn't work for anyone.

Jimin - Run era. He's not going to top that with the tousled orange hair soft boyfriend looks like a white tee with dark jeans and suspenders. With that incredible teal jacket? Never. It will never happen like that again because HYBE's been over-polishing him like a new penny when they need to forget about the visuals and shift focus to his incredible dancing like they did with Black Swan. Anyways, I gave Permission to Dance an honorable mention because it's so hard to pull off cowboy fringe when you're not from Texas but he made it look natural. I hate cowboy fringe but he looked good.

Taehyung - He's had an unfair advantage in recent years of looking more and more incredible the older he gets. When he's 35 and putting out pantydroppers like I want, he'll morph into his final form and then anyone who isn't up his ass now will be then or else they're lying about their lockscreens. His best era was Boy With Luv, the era I pretty much hated everything in terms of styling except Tae who I stared at, fully entranced by every outfit, for the entire song. Honorable mention to that teal vest and bellbottoms number he wore in Dynamite that made him look like an early 80's stockbroker or a used car salesman. He looked incredible and I hate they wasted that look on an earwormy-type jingle.

Jungkook - Blood, Sweat, and Tears. If you were following me wayyyyyy back then, you may remember I spent weeks telling people "I TOLD YOU SO" about Jungkook morphing into lethal fancam eye candy. The dark plum button-up with the black suit--hell, any of the suits from those stages--were a solid 10/10 and everyone who had LIED to themselves about how insanely hot Jungkook was absolutely cracked with the body roll in the BST choreo. I would like to give honorable mentions to Butter for styling him with long hair, but I was so pissed when they cut it off, y'all. We had a ponytail on a tattooed Jungkook and pissed it all away FOR WHAT?!?!

Other style considerations:

Best overall style for the entire group - Blood, Sweat, and Tears. That was a very generous era in terms of visuals and those looks launched a thousand vampire fanfics and it was one of the most fun eras I had as a fan. I talked about looks like Jimin's smoky eye and my near death experiences at their hands every week when a new stage came out (back when they promoted in SK often). Runner up for overall style is definitely Black Swan. That has been their most ambitious pursuit of visual art to date (in my opinion) and that song deserved more accolades than it got. The M/V remains a lighthouse shining in a sea of pop releases I didn't care for.

My personal aesthetic found in M/Vs - Jungkook's Danger look with the ripped leather pants, sneakers, long sleeve flannel with black eyeliner. Emo Kook borrowed from my closet during that era and during Just One Day when he had the shirt tied around his waist with the leather pants. I've been creating goth looks with long tails around the waist for the last 20 years and believe the color black is timeless.

BTS: Love Yourself in Hong Kong

23 and 24 March 2019 - I loved it and had many thoughts about it below the cut.

For the Saturday 23 March show, our seats were basically looking onto the podium at the end of the catwalk so they were great. But the venue is honestly so small that any seat would've been good - this was the 3rd of 4 shows in Hong Kong, and probably the smallest shows they played on the Love Yourself tour and the smallest they'll play in years (except for Muster, lol).

For the Sunday 24 March show, our seats were one section further away from the stage, but it was still a great view with a broader angle that gave me a better view of the staging and VCRs. Both nights, I had a better view than I did at the Sydney Wings show in 2016 - this was just a smaller, closer arena.

And I enjoyed both shows so much! The shows were almost 3 hours long each but they felt like they went by in a flash. And they played so many songs, but also there were SO many more I wish they could've played - their discography is really wild at this point, it's just PACKED with hits.

In many ways the live show is the ultimate piece of fan memorabilia - but it holds a kind of tension within itself too. On the one hand, it's a unique, irreplaceable experience that can't be duplicated or repeated. On the other, especially in kpop where we have so much access to fancams and concert footage, there's pressure for the experience to meet the expectations that we have, to live up to the hype of the previous shows.

(Those two things play off each other too. How else would we - or some of us, anyway - know to watch out for those micro deviations, those little moments when Jimin runs away from Namjoon in Anpanman, when Taehyung and Jin look like they're gonna make out in So What?)

But this idea of the experience as unique and non-replicable is not quite true or not quite as simple as that. We live in an age of digital media and - this is especially true in kpop - incredibly high quality fancams and photos. Sitting at a remove of many metres, and viewing only one side of the stage, there were definitely moments that I 'missed' and had to discover later through social media. And also there's a concert DVD and a concert movie which captures maybe not your show in particular, but the essentials of this tour.

One thing that can't truly be replicated - the atmosphere. It made me laugh, in a delighted way, when the crowd just screamed and sang along to every MV and BT21 CF shown before the show. I just love the comraderie of fandom, the build of excitement. Or how pretty it looked when all the Army bombs were lit up, or when we all took out our phones. It was a good feeling. (Though as @proteinscollide said some Korean-speakers in the row behind us pointed out - it was noticeable that the crowd was much quieter when it was the Korean rather than English! LOL.)

Some of the very brief ments early in the show were repeated the following night, but their ending ments were unique to each evening. A Cantonese translator from behind the scenes translated after each of them spoke, except when they spoke in English - this helped me a little, but my Cantonese is so poor and the crowd was so LOUD that again I had to check on twitter afterwards for full translations! A few of them tried to also say some phrases in Cantonese which was very endearing; out of them all, Hoseok had the best pronounciation (which I guess fits in well with his history of having pretty good Japanese and English pronounciation too).

ETA: oh and I loved Jin with the disco ball sunnies and the pirate mask for each of the end ments!!! He's so ridiculous....I love him....

Notably on the 23rd, it was the first time Namjoon referenced their upcoming Map of the Soul: Persona comeback. On the 24th, he mentioned again that comeback was coming and it felt like it was really soon - you're telling me LOL.

Okay brief notes on the setlist:

Idol - what a way to start the show with a bang. As far as live staging goes, it's so dynamite.

Save Me/I'm Fine - I always feel like Save Me is such a tease because it stops right before my favourite verse from Hoseok and Yoongi lol but I DO love I'm Fine!

Magic Shop - lots of walking around on stage rather than choreo, this is such a lovely song!

Junghope VCR - this VCR omg. I had seen blurry fancams of it before but can we just pause and reflect for a moment on how immensely shippy it is? THEY ARE IN LOVE! SO DOMESTIC! THE RED STRING OF FATE don't look at me.

Just Dance - wow, Hoseok just makes such amazing use of the stage. Even after having seen the LY concert movie and NUMEROUS fancams, it really is true that the full impact of this stage is best experienced live (this is a great thread). The way he uses the entire space, on the raised platform and then on the catwalk, how he interacts with the crowd - he's just DYNAMITE.

Euphoria - the aesthetic of this song is so Jungkook to me, the optimism and the brightness. Also I don't know how but on the first night I somehow did not notice the gold glitter in the air AT ALL? I guess I was too caught up in JK and the dancers!

I Need U/Run - I JUST LOVE THESE SO MUCH THANK U. I was rewatching the MVs today and I just… what a time, what an era. HYYH gave us so much.

Minjoon VCR - this just screams Lake House AU, doesn't it? Separated by time but not space… Speaking of AUs, it's fascinating to think about how this was originally Yoongi and Jimin (shown in the concert DVD behinds). So they originally paired up Serendipity and Seesaw? I think it makes more sense the way it is now. Would be super interesting to see the unshown VCRs though.

Serendipity - I looked for Jimin’s tattoo both nights! And did not see it, argh! Yet the fansite photos clearly show, it was there. Sometimes, you don't see it at all at the time. This is a great stage, Jimin is such a magnetic performer and it's a super impressive dance. Also, bubbles!

Love - the boldness of Namjoon to perform this completely solo, no dancers, no stage effects aside from lighting - I admire that so much. He has the charisma for it. (Also it is very great when Namjoon slips off his robe and Hobi helps him put on his jacket, in a neat reversal of what they did for Boy Meets Evil/BST at an awards show a couple of years ago, p.s. Namseok.)

DNA - The screams for this! Both during the show and before the show when the MV was showing - it really speaks to how many people became fans in the LY era, I think. I think I've come really full circle on DNA. I grew almost tired of it when it was at its peak, but now with a bit of time and distance, I can really enjoy it again. That choreo is still wonderful. (And it's hilarious seeing that Vhope moment in the beginning get more and more casual over the course of this tour. At both shows, they just held hands or just hugged.)

Medley - the first night was I think Boyz with Fun, Attack on Bangtan, Fire, Baepsae, Dope. Second night was Dope, Go Go, Blood Sweat and Tears, Boy in Luv, Fire. I enjoyed both immensely! Hobi did the splits for the Baepsae dance break! I will never be over BST! I LOVE!

Airplane Pt 2 - this is just such a superior song and superior choreo, it's SO GOOD, thank you.

Taehyung VCR - this is so stunning, I can't even. When it pulls back and he puts his hand on the glass… and it frosts over... At the end my friend leaned over and said 'house of psychics' and was she wrong? NO SHE WAS NOT.

Singularity - this stage was immensely beautiful and breathtaking and Taehyung is purely charisma. I found out after the show that he was kind of sick on the 23rd? I honestly could not tell.

Fake Love - I've seen this so many times but you know what, this choreo is still GREAT. And Bangtan in all black, all emo is such a look.

Yoonjin VCR - this was the most straight forward of the VCRs. Again, fascinating to think it was originally Namjoon and Seokjin, Love and Epiphany.

Seesaw - the staging for this is so fun, Yoongi doing his dances and sliding off the bench and running back up again - he's so good at this!

Epiphany - oh good crying time. I did actually get a tear in my eye when this played the first night. It's just a song that means a lot to me… MUSIC, EMOTIONS! A POTENT COMBINATION! And Jin is very handsome.

The Truth Untold - vocal line all in a row like four flowers, they're just so good! The way this stage used the raised platform and the four screens was also really effective. It's such a lovely song.

Tear - I've seen so many fancams for this and the concert movie but I was still? blown?? away????? Rapline are just absolutely monsters of charisma and stage presence, and the way they deliver this with complete commitment - I was slain right there. Hoseok's ending verse, FUCK.

Mic Drop - NO ONE DOES IT LIKE BTS thank u

This was the 'end' of the show but of course we all knew there would be more. Strangely, or perhaps this is cultural, this led to a subdued interlude. There were definitely attempts to get fanchants going - sometimes successful, sometimes not, I laughed a little at some of the awkward pauses - and especially on the 23rd, there was a touching crowd singalong to Spring Day. But overall it was more subdued than I expected given how loudly the crowd did scream when BTS were on stage.

So What - SUCH A CLUB ANTHEM, it was so delightful seeing them all having so much fun! I had fun too! Fun for everyone!

Anpanman - the cutest fucking choreo, and the cutest fucking group, that is all.

Answer: Love Myself - all the ending feels… emotionally wrung out… a little exhausted… but just seeing how happy they looked and how happy I felt - I love concert.

some quick first thoughts after watching Euphoria a grand total of one time while tired & brain foggy 

jungkook wearing those weird contact lenses jimin wore in serendipity is interesting 

I think JK & jimin are going to get a bigger role in the story now, something’s up with those two

I’m so glad I’ve always seen everything from hyyh onwards as one big ongoing storyline because it makes things so much easier now 

the ‘utopia’ within euphoria bit instantly reminded me of spring day (and those who walk away from omelas by ursula k le guin) especially with the use of colour & the style of clothing 

which is interesting because that story (that I haven’t read yet but I do have an ursula k le guin book here that has the omela’s story in it) is about a utopia where everyone is happy, but it’s only possible because one person has to take up all the suffering

my guess is they’re building on that idea and possibly making jin that one person??? 

also I need to work out a diagram of who’s connected to who in hyyh/wings and who’s helping who in euphoria

what in the heck was up at the very end there with the korean text (that I don’t understand, someone get me a translation please) and then jk and the car, WHO IS IN THE CAR 

also why are they all wearing white and blue in those seaside scenes

anyway I need to rewatch everything like a gazillion times

1. I haven't watched the video yet but it makes sense. I always thought that they'd eventually need to fish into the theory of parallel universes in order to tie all those loose metaphors. For HYYH + Wings + Spring Day I thought of a metaphor about growing up, Jin was obviously the first to change (I NEED U) and JK the last one (in Spring Day at times it seems like he's left behind). All the rest, to me, wasn't specifically connected but was just a bunch of metaphors placed in the video in order

Agreed. I’m still rewatching the video and thinking more about Seokjin and Hoseok’s character.

I noticed Hoseok doesn’t do much, but may be aware of everything going on. BST Korean he shoots Tae with his bow and arrow. BST JPN, he still aims at Tae, but he sort of moves his head like he was dodging the arrow. I’m thinking Hoseok is aware of the whole scenario as well.

Visited a wonder of the world! #butgotlike6mosquitobites #chickenpizza cancun for a week in the middle of winter break felt...really weird because i went from 50 degree weather to 70 degree weather BUT it was fun nonetheless. although i missed some awesome scuba diving experiences due to mother nature, it was just quality vacation time. also got a massage at a beach with ma. what a wonderful experience lOL and ziplining was fun too! so that’s an experience for the books. but honestly all inclusive hotels are so dangerous i swear i came back from cancun 5 pounds heavier -_-

andddddddddddd that was winter break? this was the last winter break that i’m probably every going to have *cries* but welcoming in 2017 was nice! we all had a smol celebration while watching countdowns from around the US before actually having our own little countdown at home. we ate at that one malaysian restaurant in chinatown, went to whole foods to grab a bunch of food before heading home and enjoyed champagne and cheese! then han went to countdown for a bit before coming back...lol. and the rest of us just played bang for like 4 hours straight before heading into bed for the new year. it was fun!

and i really can’t believe that we had 1 month for winter break - which i thought was just a little too long. but i guess in retrospect, it was nice to end my college career with a month long winter break. LOOKING FORWARD TO 2017 (even though we’re already like 2 weeks in because i’m late in making this post...lol)
