Have you checked out either of tsume-yuki's one piece oc fics? I'm /trying/ to think of if there's anything that might potentially be a problem but the main thing i can think of is this scene that's at chapter 35.. but otherwise its mostly been building up the characters? all the extra/au content is posted to her blog separate from the fic.. (2 fics are: Tell It To The Marines and In The Interest of Justice)
Aaaughghghh I’m trying to catch up with Tell It To The Marines but she’s like “I want to build up their relationship so it doesn’t feel like it came out of nowhere” and then had Ace see this girl he grew up with all his life and suddenly SEE HER AS A WOMAN and then he loves her now. and I’m like.
#askins#these hets man.#Anonymous#i miss....methyl nitrate pineapples#i'll never forgive this author for making me guns out for lawOC het and then leaving me for 3 and a half months

I’ve just read fruitpunched, and seven marriages, and I’m currently re-reading methyl-nitrate pineapples. You’re writing never ceases to inspire me to write more myself, and I haven’t done it in a while, i miss it a lot. Any tips when getting back into writing from something of a creative dry-spell?
ahhh thank you so much! what a lovely compliment :’)
i’m not particularly good at sitting down and just writing non-stop. i gotta have my coffee, a self-control app (i use this one) that blacklists websites so my brain can’t wander, and a timer app to have that good work/break balance.
for me, it’s a lot easier to start writing scenes that excite me, rather than starting at the very first sentence of a chapter. if you’re struggling with a scene, skip it and go to the next one. i find that this way of writing can make the experience really interesting, because once you have the scenes you love and are important to the chapter, you can sort of mix and match where you want to place them and how you want characters to arrive at that scene, and the whole process turns really fluid. maybe they get there with a pov switch, or it’s a non-linear chapter where some scenes are set in the future and some are in the past, or it’s written in the pov of an inanimate object, or it’s All a Dream, etc.
(and this is just a Personal Writer thing, being that i’m definitely a character-driven writer: having characters who are compelling, have strong motivations, and move the plot by being active and not passive makes the whole ordeal much easier because their voices are so clear.)
also, prompts. prompts found in weird places! the winter chapter in fruitpunched was inspired by a tumblr aesthetic post. looking at pretty film screencaps with no context. listening to concept playlists. reading beautiful made-up words. whatever makes the unique, complex wirings of your brain go “oooooh, yes”.
of course, the most important thing to do is just write! the first draft is always going to suck (and i say this with a big #Mood), but you just! gotta get it out there!
