Hot Take: Season 1 is better than Season 3 overall

I have to emphasize the overall because season 3 has a better main villain, better world building, and better transformations. However in terms of pacing and overarching story Season 1 is better and thus I found myself enjoying it much more.

Like, season 3 is great. However, when you think about it, Valtor’s only actively seeking out power from other villains when he gets involved with Diaspro and Cassandra. Otherwise he doesn’t do much, well, other than terrorized the Council of Light and turning Faragonda into a tree but not much of a power seeking quest you know, especially since he’s built up as a big threat. Also, the fact Radius was left hypnotized for so long urks me because they show Stella could defeat Cassandra and Chimera at any point but nah, we have other things to focus on. And the fact Valtor puts all of his stolen magic in a box instead of absorbing it is…ugh, so lame! There’s also Musa being toxic but the narrative portraying it as Riven being a problem. They did give us Nabu but he started off by stalking the Winx so uhhh, yeah, Timmy is still best boy!

Meanwhile, season 1 had like an escalation of the threat. The Trix went from mean girls to war criminals and it felt well paced with their goal to get the Dragon Flame. And the filler was fine because it helped us know the characters, while in season 3 it felt like the plot was getting dragged (WE DID NOT NEED THAT DIGIT EPISODE!!) Character arcs like for Bloom and Riven was also so much better in season 1. Bloom mostly learns about magic and having friends instead of being the weird girl with a power fantasy, and her discovering her origins before putting an end to the Ancestral Witches’ descendants. And Riven learns to be an anti-hero instead of a jerk after learning Darcy was using him. He was fun as a villain’s spy and a hero. Also the fights were epic for the fairies, especially the finale, that was really fun. I personally loved it more, my own gripe is the Miss Magix episode but honestly they could cut the racism with the afro hair and I’d be fine with it existing since again, season 1, we get to get used to those characters.

In conclusion I think season 1 is better because of the character arcs for Bloom and Riven, the story escalation and the fight scenes, as well as not having as many inconsistencies or annoying parts as season 3, not to mention the Trix utilizing the Dragon Flame’s power while Valtor puts the second sun of Solaria in a jewelry box.

thoughts on riven (fate)?

I hate him.

(Disclaimer, I'll be answering this with consideration for the source material, not my own headcanons about Riven)

The thing is with a different direction he might have done wellish. For the aesthetic part of it he does have that angular, somewhat foxy face that I think fits Riven well. But getting rid of his haircolor is a crime. Also his hair should be messier. I don't think his cartoon style would work in live action and I also don't think simple spikes would work, that's very hedgehog vibe and his cartoon vibe is not that. His hair should have just been dyed and made voluminous and messy or he should have gotten the appropriate wig.

Now the writing. First of all, without Brandon and Tommy the whole balance is off. Combining Riven and Brandon in a Substance like monstrosity (RIP ElisaSue) and dousing it in homophobia and making it an apprentice sex predator is not it.

But let's go bit by bit, first: the brandon/riven combo. It doesn't work. Riven and Sky were barely friends in season 1. Riven had huge beef with him and Sky gave back in kind. In Fate Riven acts like an insecure younger brother mad that Sky is better than him in a really whiny way. Riven hated that Sky is better than him (or considered better) in OG and he was ANGRY about it. He met that guy and for some reason got competitive real quick. Instead of exploring why that is, they just made them close as brothers, and then Riven has his meltdown (was it even a meltdown? The conflicts in Fate are so weak (unless, ofc, we're directing a white actress to call a black girl a rat in disgust, THAT got to be intense) like Sky bitches to him about Beatrix (my blood pressure rises just thinking about it) Riven goes "whaaah, I'm just a guy you look down on!" and then they're cool next season as if nothing happened.

Now there's also a badassery level missing. Now in the show boys very rarely get to actually be badass bc the girls outshine them, yes. However, one thing about Riven is that the motherfucker is durable. Cartoon Riven would NEVER fold just bc Flora mildly plant choked him and he would rather eat glass than run away with his tail between his legs.

Now to the homophobia/sex predator part. 1) The way he cornered Dane at first was creepy as fuck. The way Dane then reached out none the less is not that unrealistic sadly, but wasn't addressed at all. Riven's lack of boundaries itself was not only not addressed at all later on but it also disappeared. It's inconsistent writing. Now I don't mind Riven being biphobic even though he is clearly bi himself. Like sure a self hating queer isn't an original trope but meh you could shoehorn it ig (the self hate part, not the queer part, I'm not annoyed at that). BUT my problem isn't a homophobic character, it's homophobic writing. I have a separate post for that ( https://www.tumblr.com/redfountainpostin/763521760187580416/beyond-racism-one-of-my-most-hated-aspects-of?source=share) but short version is that making villains (sorry excuse for villains, what did Bea even do? BLOOM released the big bad) the sexually "lascivious" ones is TIRED and I'm TIRED of softcore preporn of characters that are 16 and 17.

THAT brings me to my next point: Riven is made to look like he's a girl crazy sex crazed teen. He's not. I know several fanfiction authors gave him and Darcy a sexual relationship that's very intense and I respect that- just like I hope to do with my own headcanons, they work off of canon, exaggate themes, push them in desired directions and they make it WORK. However none of them make sex the ONLY think Darven has and Fate makes that mistake. Canon Riven is not girl crazy and no matter the dub you never get the idea he's thirsty for Darcy. He's in LOVE. Puppy love, if you will. Could sex be added in the live action version? Sure! But OVERDO it and fail on the love part and you ruined Darven. Speaking of which, are Riven and Bea even together in season 2? I swear to God I don't remember scenes of them together?

One thing I disliked as well was how crude and vulgar he was. However, that's something that could have been a plot point. I recently made a post about Riven's drinking habits (https://www.tumblr.com/redfountainpostin/766437598221697024/riven-actually-drank-quite-a-lot-for-awhile-im?source=share) and was considering merits of him having had a nasty vocal when he first came to Red Fountain. Why? Bc one of the more popular theories about Riven was that he spent his childhood on his own, homeless, on the streets. That IS breeding ground for bad habits. And those are ugly. From that environment you don't just get a tragic backstory, you get some UGLY traits that make people in general want to avoid you. Riven having those and slowly healing out of them would be GREAT. (having Brandon and some others, even Sky, be there for him and offer him friendship before he's officially "deserving" or even ready to fully accept it would also be lovely and speak loads about their own character) But we never really see that. He's a bit less of a prick by the end of season 2 I think (I never finished it) but not bc of any on screen growth.

Overall, Fate Riven is a sad, sad disappointment. He should have been the CARRIER of angst and edgy there. When Straffi promised us darker and grittier Winx, I was like FUCK YES, Riven angst here we go. And what did I get? Fuck all. Mellow not villain just ass, and fuck all of it.

The least problem is limited Rivusa time but honestly even that is fucked by the fact she got a nice boyfriend already. Let Musa pine, damn it. She needs heartbreak for her art.

Speedrun cliffnotes:

Lightfall! Witness found something called the Veil on Neomuna. The Veil is to the Darkness what the Traveler is to the Light; a paracausal entity that controls aspects of it. We also knew about it because Osiris had a vision of it and Rasputin confirmed that! We go to Neptune where we find Neomuna and Cloud Striders, a civilisation that escaped the Collapse. The Witness tricks us into getting near the Veil and uses our Ghost to create a link between the Veil and the Traveler which opens a big portal on the Traveler. The Witness goes through and has been missing since. This whole year was dedicated to figuring out how to follow it into the Traveler!

Defiance! The Witness left its fleet to attack Earth, we defend the Earth from its forces. Mara and the Awoken help us, Crow and Mara begin their reconciliation, Amanda dies sacrificing herself to save civilians.

Deep! Titan returns from the anomaly! We've been told previously that we have to go there because an "enemy of the Witness" lives there; the enemy is a proto-worm Ahsa who fled the Fundament and settled on Titan back in the Golden Age. Ahsa helped Sloane survive on Titan. The two of them team up to help us against Xivu Arath and to figure out the portal. Ahsa tells us that Savathun knows how to get into the portal which means we have to rez her.

Witch! We meet up with Immaru who tells us that Sav left instructions for this exact situation; she will only tell us about the portal if we "deal with" Xivu Arath. Eris embraces her Hive side and bonds with Ahsa, to become a temporary Hive God of Vengeance. She collects tithes from us, the Guardians, and becomes super powerful. Once she's ready to face Xivu, we rez Savathun and Eris kills her, scooping up all of Sav's power on top of our tithes and becomes the most powerful Hive god briefly. She uses that power to cut off Xivu Arath from her throne world; Xivu is now mortal. Eris releases her power and returns to normal, rejecting the Sword Logic and laughing in the face of every Hive ever. Savathun honors her deal and tells us that she already showed us how to get through the portal, then she strikes another deal; she is to be free, but we keep Immaru so if she does anything we don't like, we can crush him. Savathun's answer is hidden in the pattern of her wings - it's the 15th wish. The 15th wish is to get one person through the portal. We need an ahamkara!

Wish! Mara and the techeuns conjure Riven's spirit through her cleansed heart; ahamkara persist after death! Riven tells us she will grant the wish only if we help save her remaining uncorrupted eggs because she wants her children and her species to go on. We agree to this and spend weeks saving her eggs which were scattered through the ley lines to protect them (this was done by Riven's mate, Taranis, a kind and benevolent ahamkara). We fight the Sol Divisive Vex for these eggs, who are doing incomprehensible things as Vex do, and when we succeed, Riven grants the wish. Crow is the one to go through the portal because he and Mara share a bond and through that bond, Osiris and Mara figure they can use the Veil just like the Witness did and forge a connection that will open the portal for the rest of us. We're currently waiting for the final mission of Season of the Wish which will likely conclude by showing us that Crow made it and that the portal is opening.

That's the shortest I could get! Definitely recommend checking out DLV and all the stuff because there's A LOT going on and there's a lot of stuff also happening in the background, especially in dungeons, and with everything that appears to be hinting at post-TFS content. There's also a lot of stuff with the Veil and the nature of Light and Darkness, mostly in LF campaign and Parting the Veil quest from post-campaign; some incredibly cool reveals and information going on.

We're currently in the free update, Into the Light, which focuses on the continued attack of the Pyramids on Earth, something that appears to be a last ditch effort of the Witness' forces to prevent us from following it to the portal.

I was just talking about Darcy and Riven, and it gave me an idea. Consider this, if you will. Riven comes back in season eight, after ‘finding himself’ or whatever he was off doing. He isn’t trying to win Musa back, and she’s not ticked off at him for not calling. (But maybe a bit annoyed he doesn’t want to start things up again, because part of her thought they might, even if she probably made out with that musician guy from the past if she got the chance.) Riven seems calmer, more at peace, and the guys are all trying to figure out why. Eventually, in a teasing joke, Brandon hits the nail on the head. ‘Is there a special young lady we should thank for the change in our big grumpy teddy bear?’ Riven goes all flustered and cagey, and everyone knows: Riven got a new girlfriend! Everyone wants to meet the special girl, of course. (Musa wants to fight her a little bit, and asks all kinds of probing, judgy questions.) But Riven just keeps steadfastly saying they can’t meet her. Stella starts doubting she exists. But Helia knows Riven’s laughing on the phone with someone every night, so this partner is for sure real. Eventually, Riven gives in, and says they can meet her. They all get introduced to a definite stranger, and given a piecemeal explanation of how they met that makes just enough sense you don’t question it, and Bloom gets all weirded out around her, because my god, where has she sensed that energy before? But this time she doesn’t just assault people, and everything goes fine. The girl is probably a witch, with some kind of basic illusion powers, and pretty enough to set Stella and Brandon flirting and getting jealous at the same time. Riven won’t invite her to any events after that, saying he wants to keep his relationship private, and everyone’s disappointed, but they don’t force him, and after their big meet, Riven and his girlfriend are finally alone, and she says how exhausting it was being around all of them, and under an illusion to boot, she drops the illusion, and bam! It’s Darcy this whole time.

While Riven was away, he met her again. The Trix were some of the most powerful witches in the dimension; they’d escaped Omega, they escaped Limbo just fine. It depleted their magic, though. And by this point, all the Trix are just tired. Every time they fight, they get slammed, and they’re sick of losing to pixies, so they’re just done. Quit while they’re alive. Maybe they met up again when Riven was investigating some kind of dark magic problem, maybe monsters, on a remote planet, and he found Darcy on the same trail. He assumed she was the problem, because that’s reasonable, and she fought him away and snapped that she was trying to do the same as him. He asks why, she answers there’s a reward for whoever deals with this, he makes a remark about her not caring about helping people, she’s just out for herself, she snaps that she’s doing this so her sisters can eat, now if he could leave and leave this to her, that’d be great. Riven refuses, keeps on the trail, one probably saves the other at some point, and eventually Darcy blurts out that she’s sorry for how she treated him, she actually really did like him, but supervillains don’t have crushes, and they don’t fall in love, it always ends badly, look at Icy and Tritannus… And Riven cautiously points out that she’s not a supervillain anymore, right? And if she’s still got that crush…maybe this doesn’t have to be the last time they see each other? Darcy’s surprised as hell, but she does still have that crush, and things go from there. Eventually, Riven misses his friends, so he goes back to Red Fountain, but he and Darcy call every night, and he’s always heading out to see her. And the Winx don’t ever have to know, honestly. Their love is their business. (But Helia sees at some point, but just keeps quiet and trusts Riven.) Also, Icy and Stormy go all ‘protective sister’ on Riven, and they get him to promise he’ll never hurt Darcy, especially Icy, because she knows how much it hurts to get betrayed, and Darcy even drags them to apologise to Riven for screwing him over

So, that was my ramble about Driven in season eight, and honestly, I love it! This would have been so cool to see, plus, we’d have seen Riven actually moving on, which he deserved, because we need a better message than, ‘Just keep trying with your toxic ex, eventually it’ll click.’

Sigh...I'm missing Riven and Musa so much today. I'm so upset the show got canceled before we could get in love Rivusa. Maybe had they just started their storyline in season one this wouldn't have been an issue and we would have got something at least. I'm so annoyed still as you can tell lol.

You’re not alone. I think of them almost daily and it’s just so sad because there was SO much potential there. And it’s really unfortunate to think how shows no longer have time to find their stride on streaming because they just get cancelled instead. The hate watchers were no longer interested in S2 and a lot of regular viewers didn’t tune in after S1 was relatively meh overall. And of course Netflix doesn’t help by not promoting shit.

I JUST REALLY MISS THEM. They had something so special and the show was actually doing them RIGHT and did so much with what little we got. I just know S3 rivusa was going to have us spinning on our heads.

Okay, since I’m tagged on this tumblr account I’ll first go with WINX of course.

1. Driven (Darcy x Riven - Winx Club)

I’ll say it over and over again – they’re perfect. THE POTENTIAL: OMG: If Rainbow had be braver and didn’t focus SO much on Bloom, they could’ve added such an angsty storyline. They build the grounding but never made it to detail and that’s a shame. I may repeat myself, but Darcy was the first one to listen to Riven. To really listen and maybe even the first person after a long time to actually care for him. Of course, she is beautiful and she used that beauty to enchant him but what mattered in the end was that Riven finally found someone who was really interested in him. Someone who saw his ambition and talent. Someone who didn’t see the sparkly outside of perfect Sky and Brandon but who saw this man, who I bet went trough a lot to achieve the right to study at Red Fountain. Finally, someone interested in the one who trained hard to be where was and who wasn’t privileged like other people. Another thing I love about them is the trust and faith Riven had in Darcy who.. in the end destroyed that YES THANKS RAINBOW.  I mean, he never questioned her even though he knew that the Trix’ plans were evil. He did not care about that. Only for her. The betrayal must have been hard. But what about Darcy? How did she feel? Well, we never saw it but regarding her character she might be an overthinker who thinks everything through, who is afraid to show her true self. Darcy seems to be the one who is afraid of losing control and of being betrayed herself. So better destroy than get destroyed? I’m sure she opened up to Riven to some extend and got caught by her own fear of losing control and then overreacted. Maybe. Who know. But the thing is that their end came completely out of the nowhere and I wished the writers had focused a bit more on that instrad of making a cut so that another fairy had a love interest by the end of season 1. It also should have been more focus on their relationship in the following seasons. (I miss the longing stares omg. We could have so much angsty drama!) I think the end of the relationship was not easy for both of them. Darcy lost everything at the end of season 1 and I’m sure she questioned herself a lot after it. Like, what would have happened if etc. And Riven, even more broken than before. What did he think? It’s no secret, that most characters in this show need therapy but these two? Couple therapy maybe lol (now this was long, but that’s when I talk about ships haha)

2. Brella (Brandon and Stella - Winx Club)

I don’t really talk about the fairies here, but I love Brella. They are such a healthy and dynamic couple. Even as a kid I noticed how harmonic and devoted. I loved, that they got so much attention in the show and that they were the harmonic couple and not Sky and Bloom. They had the storyline in s1 I which Brandon disguised as Prince Sky and lied to her. He was afraid, that Stella would only like him as a prince. And yes, Stella might look superficial at first glance but in fact she is not. And I think she showed a lot of strength in forgiving Brandon who lied to her for a long time. She made no big deal of it even though she is a princess who could have easily married or dated a prince. But she chose Brandon. Then there is the Downland arc at the beginning of season 2 and it wouldn’t have worked with another couple. As I said, they are devoted to each other. Stella fkn jumped after him into that abyss without a second thought? Luckily they survived but then Amentia shows up and Stella almost dies because there is no sunlight in Downland. So to save her life, Brandon agrees to marry Amentia who then agrees to let Stella go. I could fangirl over this arc a lot but I won’t because it already gets too long here. Then s3 in which Stella thinks that it might be just her beauty which Brandon loves (which doesn’t make sense after what they went through) but I think the problem Stella has, is that she was always judged by her looks. She was raised to be a perfect princess and let’s face it, before she met Bloom and the Winx, she had no real friends. However back to the show, Brandon knew that Stella was transformed into that Monster but he did not care. Of course not. He was trying to help her no matter what, just to see her happy again. I won’t focus on the later seasons, because they might still have their cute moments there but after all there was too much beef going on between all the couples and I don’t consider these superficial seasons as canon so I’ll stop here. But Brella is chef’s kiss. The best Winx couple followed by Tecna and Timmy and no one can convince me otherwise.

3. Ethel Hallow x Nick Hobbes - Weirdsister College (Do they have a shipping name?)

Since it was rosie, who tagged me I think I have to take a ship which has nothing to do with Winx but which goes more in the direction of Harry Potter and The Worst Witch. And that is an easy one: Ethel Hallow x Nick Hobbes. OMG the potential, the POTENTIAL! Same as driven, they have so much unused potential even though they were on the best way to build an angsty couple with trust issues and all the drama my fangirl heart needs. I love how Nick noticed right away, that Ethel resembled him. She always played the nice and hardworking students but we all know that she was a devious bitch who used every opportunity to make Mildred look bad. And from her perspective, she did nothing wrong. It was always Mildred who stole the show by breaking the rules and being at school but was in the end the good girl who was appreciated. She always played by the rules (yeah not always but she tried her best) and was ambitious and just wanted to be the number one student, yet who interfered? Always Mildred. It’s no wonder she tried everything to get rid of her. Ethel just wanted a happy school life without interruptions. So she wasn’t innocent at all and Nick knew that. In the first episode of Weirdsister College, he immediately checked that he AND Ethel would not have a chance of passing the all-seeing-eye. He tricked Mildred so that she helped him and used that for him and Ethel to pass the ceremony. He’s the typical bad boy who took advantage of Mildred’s talent and gosh, I wished they hadn’t followed this weird storyline he has with Mildred. Because everything was already there with Ehtel: Both students who tried their best to become the top of the class, both power-driven and both unsure in the end. They have so much in common. And Ethel is, after all, the good girl who fell for the bad boy and she KNOWS that he’s doubtful. She does not trust him but is still fascinated by him. And I just love that trope, okay? Ehtel also gives me hardcore rl Darcy vibes and not, it’s not just because they have the same voice actress I Germany. They’re the dark edgy couple I live for. There could have been done so much if they gave us a second season…..It looked like they were giving up on the Mildred/Nick storyline by episode 9 which was again one big flirt of Ethel and Nick. (The potential!) This is why I hate the way they went on the last episode where it’s like “It’s only you who can save him, Mildred” bullshit. I’m doomed for loving couples the writers seem to hate. I could write an essay about them and I probably will on @yaviae somewhen.

this was written as a challenge, under an hour.

Their paths had crossed again on a day when the sun dipped below the horizon, and the moon reigned over the sky, casting its pale glow on the world below; on the world that Ida had come to know to mean more than rocks and trees, now including the slope of a nose and the curve of a hip. Lady Leith, lost in her thoughts, found herself seeking refuge beneath an ancient willow, a sacred space where the presence of love was ever palpable for the inhabitants of Riven, who sought such things in the face of everything horrid. Summer was fading now, the chill of the breeze enveloping the hesitance that lived within them both. Here, Ida watched as Leith ran fingers over her lips, contemplating. It had been only a month since they parted on that mission, where everything went wrong and blood had colored their clothes with rust and stain, and yet the kiss they had shared in the face of death had washed it all away.

Would she remember? Was it nothing to her?

Would nothing change?

It was there, beneath the weighing branches, that Leith's eyes met Ida’s again, and it was as if time stood still, and the universe conspired to bring their hearts together, yanking, violently, refusing to settle for a hazed dream behind closed eyes.

In that moment, the weight of their yearning pressed against their chests, like the longing for a season that had yet to arrive.

Increasingly annoyed that Mara and Petra constantly bemoan the curse on the Dreaming City when in Forsaken the corsairs admit they can just leave and in 'Season of the Lost' the Awoken built a whole new area without it being reset by the curse and in 'Season of the Seraph' we learned that sometimes victory is achieved thru defeat (in this case, leaving the Dreaming City) and in this season Riven admits she is no longer beholden to her deal with Savathûn and the curse is basically running on spite™.

Maybe I missed something along the way or maybe the lore has changed since Forsaken, but if Mara has the ability to lessen harmful effects and the corsairs have the ability to Hit The Bricks, they could totally make do with their current situation even if they can't undo the curse completely. Maybe evacuate the Dreaming City until Mara/the Guardians can permanently kick Dûl Incaru out of Eleusinia. Maybe convince Mara to finally give up on Eleusinia. Maybe take shifts on who's "stuck" and build devices that amplify Mara's power throughout the city, iunno, just do something other than relying on Guardians to kill Riven every 3 weeks for 5+ years??

*Yes I know Mara's powers have diminished since 'Season of Defiance,' but still. Do something.

But nooo, Big Bad Evil Ahamkara must be kvetched at during *every single Coil run* bc Light forbid that we (Awoken and Guardians alike) rectify the consequences of our own actions. 🙄

So I’m making a Winx rewrite and decided to doodle some ideas and explain them below

I think it was a missed opportunity since Orgon is literally the Wizard of absorption and should have the ability to mimic powers after stealing them instead of absorbing their strength. I also changed the White Circle to be a weapon against the Wizards without any Earth Fairies being trapped inside of it cause in my rewrite they’re all dead (except Morgana and Roxy). Maybe they’ll appear as ghosts or something.

I don’t really remember if Roxy had mommy issues but I’m giving her that and her dad wife issues. She left haphazardly and Klaus didn’t get his memory wiped of her, so he resents her for leaving and essentially abandoning him and Roxy. Roxy would want to know of her mother more which makes them clash

Riven being jealous and butting heads with Musa was the only melodrama I thought fit, but the whole Jason Queen record deal thing isn’t really brought up after Season 4. And yeah here Jason Queen’s offer to Musa ends up putting a wedge in their relationship because that means she’ll be staying on Earth while Riven returns to Red Fountain, kinda like a couple separate worldwide which is quite hard for him.

I’m actually not 100% sure if it’s cannon, but it’s cannon in my rewrite soooo yeah

This is a weird one but HEAR ME OUT-

So Duman gets badly hurt and Nabu helps right? I didn’t like the idea of the wizards pretending to be allies before backstabbing the good guys, then Nabu dies and they just became lame. I plan to give most wizards a redemption arc and it starts with Gantlos and Nabu trucing for a bit to find a cure for Duman’s illness (caused by the white circle casting some spell on them, hence why they destroyed the other white circles). Gantlos gets Nabu’s help since he’s a wizard, the most cooperative and it’s the least awkward option. I like to imagine he calls Nabu a rookie in sorcery lmao

The party’s aftermath features the Specialists as firefighters, Riven and Sky up to single guy shenanigans, led by an increasingly wearied Saul wearied by their antics. This story is an instant pick-me-up.

✨An Innocent Trust Exercise Word Count: 11k Tags: Rivusa, forced proximity, smut Summary: In order to teach the fairies and Specialists to trust and learn from each other, Farah and Saul create a school-wide exercise: fairy & Specialist partners will be literally tied up for a week. Rec: Written in the beginnings of the FTWS fandom, this fic cemented for me how much Val doesn’t let ideas go once they’re in her head. Expect fun banter, steamy smut, and worldbuilding crack treated seriously. Val takes a great premise and totally delivers. Fave exchange:

✨The Most Powerful Mind Fairy in Alfea Word Count: 5k (WIP) Tags: Rivusa, pre-breakup Samusa, mind fairy stuff, S2 missing scene Summary: In Season 2, Ep 4, Rosalind calls Musa “the most powerful mind fairy here.” Missing scenes that slot into canon to explain Rosalind’s opinion. Rec: This rec is a bit personal; S2 left me reeling with where a lot of characters ended up and I had a hard time feeling creative about it, but then Val swept in and dropped this fic shortly after the premiere. I love how dark Val took this one, not shying away from Rosalind using torture to weed out the students she wanted to groom. Read for a great way to fill in the gaps S2 left us with.

✨Tolerable Word Count: 9k Tags: Rivusa, kink meme prompt, arranged marriage, dubious consent (sorta) Summary:  In order to recruit the best specialists to fight in their army and protect the Queen, Solaria promises certain qualified candidates an arranged marriage to a powerful fairy that will increase their social status and income. Riven wants to prove to his father that he can make it on his own, regardless of whether the mind fairy he's paired with wants to marry him or not. All he has to do is get her pregnant to seal the deal. Rec: I’m actually a huge sucker for arranged marriage, and apparently I also have a thing for exploring sex: is it a tool for control? for whose control? or for intimacy? What even is intimacy? I love the exploration of what healthy sex is, with a dash of insane kinky worldbuilding.

✨Thin Walls (collab with @theperfectrose) Word Count: 37k Tags: Rivusa, Modern/Non-Magical AU, And They Were Roommates, Smut Summary: Musa is in desperate need of a roommate. Riven is available. Only problem is their apartment walls are very thin. Rec: Look, I have to include Val’s magnum opus. I love that in every universe, in every timeline, not only will Rivusa get together, but Val will be there writing about it--featuring snappy banter, unrequited pining (until it’s requited ofc) and falling first into bed and then in love. Not to mention the steamiest of all smuts when Iva joined the story in the later stages. Brava, ladies!

Revenant Act II thoughts (spoilers)

At least it wasn't Taniks!

Wouldn't be an Eliksni season without the Eliksni victim complex showing up ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ (both sides have done bad things. I know there's nuance. Don't fucking @ me)

That cutscene fucking ruled. We have confirmation that after the Hive come and fuck up a Traveler planet the Witness shows up and Shapes it. But that implies that it didn't need the Traveler to Shape Earth it just... decided not to? It was in the Traveler for 'a year' and it didn't just Shape our planet? Sure Jan.

Do not like the Prison of Elders thing. The short one is... fine? I guess? The long one sucks ass. Maybe bc I'm very underleveled (2013) but MAN I sure do love getting 1HKO'd by fucking grim. I liked Riven's version better.

Also WHY is there just whole sale pieces of Savathun's Throne World in the PoE? Like that is... impossible. Savathun's Throne World is a place yes but the thing about TWs is they are places made from thoughts! So while the TW is real it only exists because Savathun thinks it into existence. It being geometry in some Battlegrounds was one thing bc it was clearly built there... WHY is it being built/put in the PoE!?!?!?!?!

I love Eido. I love her soooooo much. She's really gotta get better brain cells. Absolute leap in logic that somehow Eramis will be able to lure the Echo away from Fikrul. An Echo that is looking for someone 'worthy'

Eramis isn't worthy because she doesn't THINK she is worthy. Her guilt is a mile deep and he regrets span an infinity. Why would the Echo want her???

Still no explanation on how/why Nezarec got into Mithrax. 'It was hinted at in the lore of a gun 3 seasons ago'. Shut up. It should be in the game.

Spider's line about protecting 'our little Eido' gave me the warm fuzzies. Also fuels my Spider/Eido ship that I ship specifically bc I know some people get mad about it lol. innocent thing trying to redeem someone irredeemable vs corrupting force trying not to corrupt this innocent thing they care about now.

The Jail break was SO DUMB. Why'd we do that? My Slayer Baron would have been there just shaking his head like 'no Eido. Eido that's a bad idea. Eido no no no'. Crow's line of 'and we all pretend Ikora doesn't already know' was on point tho. Ikora at her station getting a sudden migraine like 'ah yes, we have a Hunter Vanguard again. I forgot what this felt like' and then 45 seconds later a Hidden shows up and hands her a report about the whole thing.

All in all: sure was an Act of Destiny!

Also I got the hat/cloak on my Hunter from Tomb of Elders so uwu That was the last piece I was missing
