Rise Characterizations
Last month I did an in-depth re-watch of rottmnt s1 to take some notes on writing the characters of rise from their perspective and such. Figured I'd share what I found, but I'm also posting this bc my docs have a nasty habit of blipping out of existence.
We'll start with Raph bc he's the oldest of course, but I'll post the others sep. bc this is gonna get long!!
Raph Character Notes
Tumblr media
Language Habits:
Catchphrases: "like a boss", "smash"
Verbalizes his attacks such as "smash", "knuckle sandwich", "power smash jitsu", "tonfa power jitsu", "mystic punch jitsu"
Uses older song titles for surprised exclamations or in place of cursing, most notably "jumping jack flash!"
Uses aave/bae, For example: 'em instead of them, 'ey instead of they, 'cause instead of because, forgoes the g in ing words (going becomes goin')
Uses less and less grammar the more he's stressed, and his voice will come to a higher pitch
Will speak in a softer tone to his little brothers if he's concerned about hurting their feelings. Aka babying them
Mixes up both metaphors and idioms. Would be one to say how the turn tables unironically
Does say "hero" a lot, lost count, especially in phrases like "hero town"
Refers to his brothers as "boys" or "fellas"
Refers to Splinter as "pop(s)" most often
Refers to strangers he's directly talking to as "bubs" or "hoss"
Tumblr media
Personality:
Protective of his family
Plays up the hero act/has a strong sense of duty and justice
Impatient, rushes in without a plan (pre-movie), doesn't finish books until the end, falls asleep during "boring movies"
Oblivious, doesn't read into things beyond surface level. Struggles with empathy when something is beyond his understanding, but is still very emotional
Center of responsibility for his brothers, but also has a reckless sense of fun. As long as it's him doing the stupid unsafe thing it's fine
Carries the weight, in a literal sense he piggy backs his brothers, but will also use his body as a shield from danger. Unfortunately this also means he takes his brothers a little less seriously (Mikey the most common victim), and will try and either protect them from everything or as an oldest sibling everything has go "his way"
Doesn't do well in solitude. Needs to be looking after people to feel functional, and needs to be around people to feel safe
Clumsy, "takes horrible pictures", isn't very good at hiding, he's a big guy so it probably took a lot of time to find balance
A sweet guy who still won't shy from making fun of his family. Leo tends to be the brunt of his teasing since he is the most annoying, but he will also poke Donnie on his dramatics
Likes cute things!!! Has a teddy bear collection and loves animals. It's so cool how this isn't played off as a joke and he's still just as masculine for liking pink and cutesy stuff
Likes fighting!!! Gets a lot of energy out defeating bad guys (where he directs his anger towards), the one who is shown to train the most, and also weight lifts in his spare time
Doesn't do well under pressure, here the anger comes out the most. He gets stressed when it's all on him, especially since he tends to mess up the most in these moments
Tumblr media
Miscellaneous:
Second to unlock mystic powers
Nicknames/codenames: "raph-a-doodle" by leo, "red rover" by april, "red king" by donnie
Teddy bear names: Doctor Huggenstein, Captain Snuggles, Cheech
Stinks: fear stink, amazement stink, sneaking up on people stink, victory stink
Seems to be less afraid of rabbits and more afraid of puppets
Went on his first solo mission at 13
Cannot lift a bus, at age 15
Thought about discussing fighting style, but I'm not as familiar with that concept and I've seen a couple posts dissecting such topic. So we'll end here for now. Hope this was helpful!!! I'll post the rest of the boys later and link here
Leo is up!!
Donnie is up!!
Mikey is up!!
Splinter is up!!
April is up!!
Cassandra is up!!
Baron Draxum is up!!

mean girls (2024)
fine. FINE. it is time to discuss mean girls (2024) bc i can't stop thinking about it and i had a severe mean girls the musical phase in 2018 and 2020 two separate times. and also i took notes watching the movie last night. so now you are all subject to hearing them. spoilers, obvi. (under the cut, of course)
i think it should be noted here that i also have Thoughts and Feelings on the bway musical. so if anyone wants to know those... moving on.
it's a movie-musical adapted from the stage musical adapted from the 2004 movie adapted from a BOOK called Queen Bees and Wannabes released in 2002. now that that's out of the way:
the good:
the sets are so much fun in the movie. the musical is like. a few desks and tables and a bed that all move and then. screens. i missed real sets. so much
opening the musical with janis and damien recording the video in the garage and having their narration work like that worked sooooo well. and then of course ending in the garage was very fun.
speaking of janis and damien, these are my favorite versions of janis and damien. auli'i and jaquel KILL IT as janis and damien.
angourie's cady (acting-wise) is really good. really cute and naïve and it feels authentic as a transition from new kid cady to plastic cady.
i also don't mind the changes to apex predator. i think auli'i and jaquel killed it and i think it works! i like the choreo too where everyone is acting animalistic (re: this is Girl World in the og movie) except regina.
avantika and bebe wood are also really great as gretchen and karen. this might be my favorite version of karen. ily karen shetty.
LOVE this version of someone gets hurt. i love regina controlling the atmospehere around her and literally becoming the apex predator. the partygoers don't move unless she allows it, and even planning cady's reaction (which is. gayer than expected) is so good.
CONTROVERSIAL TAKE? i prefer the story behind the pyro-lez thing. i never liked the space dyke story in the musical and i thought it was weird (though i prefer them calling her a space dyke because it's supposed to be mean. ya know)
im saving this for this bullet point bc every other bullet point would've been about but i've been a fan of renee's regina for forever now, so being able to see it outside of broadway and outside of shaky bootlegs is a blessing.
after regina eats shit at the talent show, during the social media montage, you can briefly hear the intrumental version of world burn, and i think thats cool.
SOMEONE GETS HURT (REPRISE) you will always be famous. i am so sorry they didn't put you on the soundtrack
damien on the jazzy will forever be funny. it's better than the og movie. i will stand by this.
also the background/looming beat of world burn like a second after janis gets done singing + the looming threat of regina's revenge is very cool.
OH world burn is very awesome in this bc. duh. of course it is. but what really stands out to me is that it's like apex predator again where everyone is acting like animals and reginas above it all (bc she did this lmao). another thing is the transition between one of the high notes to regina fake crying in mr duvalls office. that was so slay.
the reginald joke is my fave in the whole musical and im so glad they kept it. it makes me giggle every time.
canon lesbian janis imi'ike i love you.
the bad:
i miss all of the songs. give me back It Roars, Where Do You Belong, the entirety of Meet the Plastics, the What's Wrong with Me reprise, FEARLESS! and Whose House is This, More is Better, and Do This Thing!! GIVE THEM BACK TO ME!!! PLEASE!!! OH my god and Stop. jaquel would've blown this out of the water i just know it.
i miss the jokes about mrs george and her boob job. that shit was hilarious.
i don't care for cady's pov in revenge party in this one. those who have seen it Know.
i also miss the "NO! THEY'RE BOTH IN THE COSTUME!" that shit killed me. absolutely hilarious.
the musical (bway edition) actually did cut some of the iconic scenes from the movie, but i think this movie would've benefitted from adding them back in. give me the "we should totally just stab caesar!" line.
i hate Rockin Around The Pole. so fucking much. i hate it in the broadway version and i hated it in this. i hate this song so fucking much.
chris briney. that's all. he's got about as much personality as a wet piece of paper. get a different aaron.
even the broadway musical is like, actually mean. it still pales in comparison to the og movie. this movie could have done a little more to stand out from the actual musical and the og movie. idk. it could've said something. but if you walked into this movie and expected it to say something then that's on you. sorry.
this isn't something that needs to be categorized but i miss cady's inner monologue. it's very obvious in the movie but she's even got these cute little asides in the musical that i WISH they would've kept. like: "it seems kinda bad to spy on someone, but they're the first friends i've got, and i don't want to have none." is so much fun and gives cady so much character and i love it so much. erika henningsen is my favorite variation of cady. she's believable as both nerdy cady and plastic cady. also she's so, so funny. (honestly i think they should've brought her back for cady's songs in this musical. sawry. i don't think they should've replaced angourie bc i really like her cady But.)
another cute and quirky thing that i like from the musical that isn't in the movie (because it would be really hard to pull off) is that mrs heron/mrs george/mrs norbury are all played by the same actress.
anyway that's all i have to say about mean girls (2024). in my (completely unprofessional) opinion, they should've literally just adapted the actual musical script if they wanted to make this so bad. or released a pro-shot with renee as regina and this cast or something. they should've gone all out campy musical with this one instead of trying to market it as a remake bc it's not Really a remake. like it Is but it's Not.
if u read this whole thing thank you. if you saw this post and went "jesus christ" im sorry. i wish i could stop thinking about it, too.

Too long or?
my followers right now:
Tumblr media
the reason i dislike the song so much it's because it wasn't needed. I understand it was an ongoing internal joke in the swiftie fandom and Taylor releasing it for red tv was fan service but as i said before she should've released it as a poem. The production of the song is horrible and so flat it made flat earthers believe the earth is round.
While it was cool to have more context the way it was given to us ruined the experience in my honest opinion. If you're gonna release the extended version of anything it better have a very good reason to exist, will improve the pace, the storytelling and the overall narrative of the og song/movie/anything? Especially with a song like all too well which is not only a fan favorite across every stage of swiftiesm (whether you're a veteran fan or a new tik tok fan) but also perfect as it is! The 10 minute version had so many stakes and so many expectations to meet and it failed so bad. With how safe taylor bets on some decisions for her music it blows my mind she really decided to extend a song everyone loves and puts it as THE masterpiece of her career, and i know she did it purely to make fans happy which is cute but it's the never ending cycle of making decisions based on what your fans will like and what the charts will look like instead of keeping the artistic value of your craft intact and sometimes that means deprive your fans of this thing they've been asking for years which sucks but it's for the best.
As i also said in my post we get to appreciate halsey's song even more now bc we have added context and we don't know how that sounds like, you can imagine it however you like and sometimes that is the beauty of reading the original draft/poem of a song. and also because again: it creates more stakes, you can't just repeat the same beat or base production (i'm not well versed on specific musical language lol so i apologize) over and over and change it a bit to break up the monotony, this isn't a random mashup you make for funsies in adobe audition at 2am.
the added lyrics are also... a bit wishiwashi in my opinion, there are extremely good and painful verses and then others that made me go (and i'm not joking) "oh my god girl, shut up" mid song.
and also, and i'm gonna make some fans angry with this take but whatever, i just dislike how you can see 30 year old taylor CLEARLY edited stuff. and i'm not talking about editing in a "let's make this song make a bit more sense bc maybe i didn't have the skills back when i was 20" type of way. i'm talking about knowingly adding stuff that you KNOW fans will talk about bc it's something that with time made it to the history books of the swiftie fandom. forced references if you will. like with the 1989 vault tracks... but that's a different discussion lmao.
anyway that's it lol

I’d like to explore the idea of this new generation of stories. A lot of people are bringing up the fact that stories nowadays don’t feel like they used to, in the sense that so many are not well developed, especially with the influence of social media. So what does this mean for the next generation of readers, writers, and filmmakers?
I’ve noticed that a lot of the new things coming out are written as if for children, but executed as if for adults. Mean Girls 2024 is like the Gen Alpha remix. The dialogue and the costuming is catered as if towards middle school girls, but it seems like writers are forgetting just how young middle schoolers are. I’m willing to bet that high schoolers would find the new mean girls very cringe, but middle schoolers wouldn’t. But the trailer makes it seem so sexual that it can’t possibly be written for an audience of twelve-year-olds. The same goes for the live action Avatar remake. The plot and dialogue is written like it’s for kids who can’t fully comprehend personal growth, but there’s so much violence that it can’t possibly be for kids. (To be fair, I haven’t watched either of these for myself, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think the people who have would agree; also no hate to the people involved in either production) But then you remember that some twelve year olds are full blown media influencers, who dress and speak about things inappropriate for their age, and in turn encourage their young viewers to do the same (ie. Sephora kids)
Eight graders are like armies for the media. Think about how One Direction exploded due to its audience. How the Sephora kids thing has been started by social media influencers. So, are filmmakers and writers trying to cater to the next generation of oddly mature consumers? If so, it seems like they’ve hit the mark. It’s a little too early to see how examples like Avatar will do in terms of money, but Mean Girls has grossed over $100mil in comparison with a $36mil budget, and if more things written like it do similarly in the box office, I can’t say I’d be surprised.
But even if art imitates life, life will also imitate art. The newer books and movies of today (when I say books I mean the mish mosh of tropes that get pushed around on TikTok, but that’s a whole other thing. Even so, they cater to a generation of readers who doesn’t seem to have grown up on reading) get the idea of kids that are so immature, even though they discuss and dress like they aren’t. But what those movies don’t get, in their haste to mirror Gen Alpha, is that kids are also complex human beings. The original Avatar got that, and so did the original Mean Girls. The reason I keep bringing up books is bc I was thinking about the Spirit Animals series, which is criminally underrated for its brilliant portrayal of character growth and redemption arcs, that I read when I was a kid. As Gen Z, do we want the next generation to grow up with horribly flat, oversexualized stories? We critique Gen Alpha’s inappropriate maturity, but we’re also the ones who are going to be writing for Gen Alpha in the future.
This idea is a little thrown together, and probably someone else has said it, but I think that we need to stop writing what sells. Stop the consumerist take on reading, of buying thousands of trashy romance novels to never pick up again. Stop writing cash grabs like Wish. Stop trying to mirror something about a generation that is not fully developed. I want Gen Alpha to have the feeling of being completely immersed in a story as a kid, and then growing up and thinking it was a story just for kids, but reading/watching it again and realizing just how good it was. But they won’t have that with this fast take on stories. What kid is going to enjoy the hell out of Wish, come back at 22, and think, “Wow, this is brilliant.”? But people do that all the time with the original ATLA.
I kinda hate myself writing this, but does anybody get what I mean? Why are stories getting so bad? Why are the things that make the most money absolute trash???
Anyway lol. Grain of salt, just my thoughts, yada yada yada. Lmk if u agree.

Again not at all related to QOTD but related to stuff i see under the tags that’s been bothering me a lot. I was originally gonna send this as an ask but it might potentially not get answered so just gonna post. It’s in relation to this answered ask which i sent and just wanted to be more clear in what i meant. https://www.tumblr.com/nalyra-dreaming/742009291203035136/hey-i-originally-sent-this-ask-to-virginia-bc-a
@nalyra-dreaming Thanks for answering, and I’m gonna come off anon bc I think it’s more transparent that way, only was on anon bc didnt want to be potentially blocked and not see a response. Just wanna clear some things up. I did not read all the books, just the first couple and working my way up, but im aware of what happens bc idc ab spoilers etc. Also I like Loustat, i like jam I listen to the podcasts read the interviews etc etc so im aware of the things u might think that I’m not aware of. I know the characters are still the same, I know we’re gonna get revisits and personally I’m excited for them I love shows/movies where there’s a shift in perspective I think it’s so fun. However I do think they gotta be careful when doing the revisits bc some things would be problematic/racist, and I have read your rant which is why I say that you agree w this. You also agree with this in your response. What I’m confused about thooo is the contradiction in both your rant and your response to me where you say that “ if I‘m going to see anyone scream “bad writing“ or “Louis being made a liar or the memories revisited/changed is racism“ when the changes will hit I‘m just gonna block you.” And then say that it has nothing to do with the problematic directions the show could take to the revisits “because there are many traps there to consider because of the racial change”. And then say “but it’s not bad writing, or racism, if and when these things happen”. I don’t understand, what is it then? Or maybe we disagree about what would actually be a problematic way to revisit ep5? Would something have to be super explicitly racist for it to be considered problematic or bad?
As for listening to the Black cast and creators, I do and I agree with them as well? Jacob says Louis lies and I didn’t need him to say that for me to see it already in s1 like Louis’ lies ab tbe extent in which Claudia resented him, how much he loved Lestat to the point of not being able to kill him etc. I’m literally saying if he lies ab the ABUSE it would be badddd which is why I don’t think they’ll go that way, even if Louis lying ab things is canon (+++ how are things being canon suddenly an argument for why they wouldn’t be bad if adapted in the show??).
And then the other anon saying “why would it be bad if Lily was shady anyone of any race can be a villain” bruhh like what evils could she have committed to deserve death? (stealing and killing from her clients like the prostitutes in the book who lestat feels justified in killing? she’s a Black sex worker in 1910 New Orleans the show opens with Bricks literally being assaulted by a client if she had killed him I would have cheered so idk what would make lily evil enough to have deserved death that’s what i mean by thatt which is also another example of something being canon still being bad)
Also I realize the way I phrased my ask made it seem like I think the making fun of wanting jassad is weird bc it’s mean or something, which is not at all why I think it’s weird. Ppl specifically making fun of wanting to see two poc who are an important pairing in the show be paired in promos as well, that’s the weird part.
And I did not say at all that I think they’re gonna be wholesome bc they are POC, the fuck? Why did you have to do all that when discussing the jassad part of my comment? That’s also very weird. Like I know who Armand is and what he does, that doesn’t mean that I will stop being excited that the ppl playing the part are POC and no longer want to see them on my screen or do promos together…. I’m excited to see all that stuff play outtttttttt….. y am i supposed to only be excited for loustat…..?
As for the comments you got on your fic, I personally did not read your fic but I’m sure you write v well and I’m assuming the comments are super hurtful and unnecessary and things like “kys”, which I find the casual use of in online spaces in general very weird so I’m genuinely sorry that you received that in your inbox. However I’m talking about how even getting just a “hey that’s racist” would also be not a great thing to receive like no one wants to be called that. Getting anything negative at all in the inbox is not great so getting even wilder stuff is very hurtful, I get that, which is why I’m trying hard not to come off in any type of way that would suggest that. People saying I’m tired of this discourse, plz know this is in response to your rant as well as a lot of the asks ab the jassad pairing, not just for discourse’s sake. Personally, I think it’s important and interesting to discuss how changes in certain characters’ races could affect the story moving forward, and I like that you talk ab your theories for how they will adapt s2 that stuff is fun and very fandom like behavior. But when ppl point out that some things won’t work bc of the race (which again u agree w in ur rant + ur response) u talk ab how some fans who say this pair it w hurtful language and then by dismissing the hurtful language you dismiss the notion that the suggestion would be racist or problematic in the first place which is very contradictory. But I guess since I have not read all of Anne Rice’s work my opinion ain’t shit.

do you think lucy would like taylor swift? bc the way I loved you, if this was a movie and most of the speak now album are about her and natsu
also peace is exactly natsu's perspective but he'd never admit it, he just listen to it from now and then
Yes I do!!
Most of my page is Fairy Tail (well NaLu, if I’m being honest) x Taylor Swift!!
For the songs you mentioned:
The way I loved you -
Yes and no in my opinion because they would absolutely fight and kiss in the rain (I need this to happen), Natsu would definitely be a wonderful perfect boyfriend for Lucy, however I feel like they would never those the fire they have between them. It was makes NaLu well NaLu!! They need the comfort, warmth, safety but also the crazy, wild, roller coaster kind of rush (see what I did there 🤭)
If this was a movie -
This most definitely reminds me of when Natsu left to go train and Lucy was all alone. I think she was always waiting for them to return as depicted in the manga/anime. A year gone and Lucy was still reaching even though Natsu (and the rest of Fairy Tail) wasn’t there (sorry I’m going to keep using the lyrics because I can)!! I think her grief and loneliness needed to be properly addressed in the anime but that’s a discussion for another time
Speak now (album) -
Yes!! The young romance, first time experiences, the good, the bad, and everything in between!! That what NaLu is all about!!
Peace -
I think I need to make a whole post analyzing this from Natsu’s perspective because this is most definitely his song!! And you’re right!! He would never admit to it but he relates to the depth of the lyrics more than he would like to. The depictions of danger, fire, and devils itself is enough for Natsu however the deeper meanings behind the lyrics just show what Natsu could be feeling. One thing about him is that he can’t communicate his feelings properly, especially with words. I do often feel that he could feel like he’s not good enough and such but doesn’t show it since he is supposed to be the happy go lucky member of Fairy Tail.
Any other songs or anything related to Fairy Tail, let me know!
Thank you for listening ❤️

I've just finished watching the Fear Street trilogy and I'm. I am living for these movies omg they've been spinning in my head like a hamster in a wheel for the past few days. They're so good, I haven't had a movie that kept me so fully engaged all throughout in a while and especially the sound design is what does it for me. I will be watching them all over again soon just to see if I didn't pick up on some things that were concluded later. Despite being a pretty rounded whole I'd almost wish they'd make more sequels about the individual Shadyside killers just to get more content out of the universe. The series is going into my favorite movie catalog for sure.
Also, I deadass need someone to do a thorough character analysis on Nick Goode specifically lol. @ me if you're that person bc I need to DISCUSS. (Spoilers below)
I found him sus on so many occasions throughout the series but every time I ended up letting my guard down regardless because he was just portrayed as so likable to me?? After he turned his back on Ziggy at the end of part 2 I felt he might've known something and that it was a dick move, but I also kinda felt that there might've been a good reason for it and that he'd get a redemption arc. But BOI that turned out...different. Deadass though, as evil as he ended up being, I kinda felt there had been some shreds of good left in there as well, just heavily overpowered by all of the rest.
Idk if this is supposed to be the actual meaning of it but, to me it seemed that as it was said the Goode's were able to get whatever they wanted through the deal with the devil, Nick desperately wanted Ziggy survive her injuries and so she did. (Like deadass the chick got stabbed big time how tf does one survive that??) And if that was the case, that they could technically wish for whatever they wanted, couldn't he technically also wish for Ziggy to stick with him regardless? But that could blow his cover so... But when they met again at the mall, I found his expression quite hard to read. I felt maybe he had a moment of guilt maybe? Feelings coming back to the surface? But then he deadass tried to human sacrifice her right after so even if so it was pretty meaningless in the end 💀 Maybe his ego was just too big to be fully real with himself? Am I giving this man too much credit?
Also what I found interesting is that it seemed like the dudes could pick the name of the sacrificed person themselves. Did they just pick at random given the killers ended up so random or was it deliberate in some way? Would they know when it'd happen? (Bc if so it'd be kinda stupid of Nick to choose Tommy, the boyfriend of the sister of the girl he crushed on, with a camp coming up where said girls both would be at. 😂)
I'll probably have more to rant about after I get some sleep, but his character was something that I found particularly interesting. Every character honestly was so layered to me with both bad and good perspectives to them and how they behaved. I'm gonna stop so this won't become endless lol, but pls tap in if you too want to gush about these movies!

tuesday again 4/4/2023
the semi-triumphant return of the making section
listening
my ugly by cloudfodder. i spent a lot of this weekend muttering "six feet down bad for me" bc its a fun phrase. a voice similar to cosmo sheldrake, sleeker and more rollicking baseline but similar vibes to the doors' people are strange.
youtube
also: shostakovich's jazz suite no. 2, specifically the famous waltz 2. i'd never listened to the whole suite in one sitting (or at all), and it got me through an extremely tedious afternoon of scheduling calendar reminders for various grants. one reminder a month out, one reminder two weeks out, one reminder the day it's due. for every quarterly and annual report, all of which run on different quarterly and annual schedules. out to 2027.
youtube
my ugly is from last week's discover playlist i never got around to listening to but did archive, and i could not tell you what led me to shostakovich.

reading
Tumblr media
more vampire private detective fiction. i'm sort of amazed this is a little subgenre of its own? like the kate kane books, raylene pendle's adventures are simply fun nonsense. if you liked the underworld movies, or van helsing, or any of that flavor of mid aughts gritty but opulent fantasy, you may like these books.
a side note: it was slightly jarring to read a book with s drag queen where the drag queen is kind of a distraction? he's a whole guy with his own subplots going on, but the books are also like...WOW look at THIS fun novelty!!! we hang out with a drag queen!!! let's have a long internal discussion about what pronouns to use when but not actually ask the drag queen about preferred situational pronouns! i think this is mostly a the times they are a-changin' deal, bc this was published in 2010 and i do not remember running into that with any of priest's other books. it feels mostly well-meaning, if a little back-patting at times.
this is also a very rare reread, i read these fairly close to when they were published bc i was working at my local library devouring like four books a week.
-
watching
i have a few words to say about s2 of s/tar wars' the ba/d batch and then we'll get on to a movie i actually enjoyed watching. if this were not star wars i would have stopped watching a year ago. HOWEVER. episodes 7 & 8 of s2 are just like. two normal clone wars episodes dropped in??? there's some juicy juicy coruscanti politics and a lot about clone rights as the empire decides to make the switch from clones to conscripted troops? we hang out at the clone bar 79's for a bit??? it's just a shockingly competent pair of episodes compared to the rest of them.
Tumblr media
the italian job (1969, dir. collison) is a movie i would call stylish (derogatory) bc it really is just a movie about the spectacle of the car chase. i am saddened to report i had a delightful fucking time, bc the part of my brain that likes experiencing g-forces went heheehoohooo zippy corners. i am aware the mini cooper is a competent sports and rally car, but something about multiples of a very small car absolutely hauling ass...this movie is not afraid to get silly with it. i have almost nothing to say about this movie except i had a good time nearly every minute.
Tumblr media
im always really annoyed when a movie a man has given me a nonconsensual 2+ hour seminar about is 1) nice to look at and 2) actually fun.
watched the b/ad batch bc i Must watch anything s/tar wars as an elaborate form of self harm, and the italian job was bc i have kanopy credits to burn and wanted to watch a silly action movie while i ate dinner.
-
playing
still fucking around in Weird West. got my husband back, which seems to be the worst outcome? fascinating!!! leaving him in a cage for two months while i leveled up and gained cathartic revenge for our son by systematically wiping out an entire gang until i was strong enough to storm the abandoned mine and kill the leader, freeing my husband, seems to not have given him very much catharsis. funny how that happens. i wonder if his dialogue changes depending on how fast you rescue him.
this game had some folks who worked on dishonored. you motherfuckers. all these screenshots are cropped to hell bc i really want to draw attention to the characters and not the vast expanses they are standing in.

three more things: you play through five different storylines. on the first run through with the revenge-seeking bounty hunter, i bought a horse. a very nice horse! coal black no markings. they gave me a different fucking horse. where is my old horse??? is she okay???
Tumblr media
anyway im a pig man now. ran into a mandatory stealth mission which has really stopped me dead, bc this pig man comes with a shotgun and all his abilities are tank abilities. im sure if i actually attempt the mission it is not that difficult. but i wanna use my shotgun. the game got me so hype to tank through some stuff, bc the previous bounty hunter was a very good midrange allrounder type of lady. which is good and fine to introduce you to the game, and i had a lot of fun playing her, but she was not well suited to the shotgun (my beloved).

and sorry the what now

making
experiments with bleach and shirts thereof. i got this clearance rack longsleeved tee at target for four of the king's own dollars, sometime between my last big trip to the laundromat and thursday, when i did laundry and remembered this shirt existed. it's not a very good shirt, the cuffs are awful and there's a weird seam up the entire center back. i dont feel bad about destroying it.
did some graffiti from the Lonesome Road f/allout new vegas dlc up both sleeves, and i'm fairly pleased with the effect. it's graffiti, it's supposed to be sloppy. i am inordinately pleased with the inner curve of the "u" in "courier" bc i just freehanded it with a half inch chip brush and some halfhearted tailors chalk marking my letter spacing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my original jug of bleach from when i moved into the woods apartment in the fall of 2020 had somehow gone off, bc it was not bleaching. luckily i had a second backup bottle of bleach bc in november i forgot i already owned a bottle of bleach. this is one of the rare times adhd has worked out for me.
the process for this was not fancy or complicated. i stenciled all the stars with leftover contact paper: held it up to my laptop screen, lightly traced with a pencil, and then hacked away at it with a box cutter. i probably would have been perfectly fine freehanding it bc bleach and graffiti are very forgiving of shaky hand sins. but a bitch is anxious. a bitch loves stencils.
i had to go back and touch up the smaller stars bc i oversaturated the fabric with the dead bleach and lost all the detail. bleach pens apparently cannot be had for love or money around here. “homemade” bleach pens are apparently just cornstarch and bleach, which seemed not reactive enough and i already had cornstarch. i did not have a little squeeze bottle but i did have a wide assortment of cheap synthetic paintbrushes i don’t care about so i did a 1:1 mix in the bottom of a beaker and freehanded that on. didn't really need the cornstarch and it really hindered the "how long do i leave this on" question, i would have been fine freehanding straight bleach onto bone-dry fabric.
it is doubtful i will wear this out in public, bc the distressed flag imagery in these specific colors really brings a sort of republican biker aesthetic i don't care for. i am fascinated at the possibilities of literally painting a little scene with bleach but it's kind of high stakes and idk there's an #iconic enough scene in lonesome road to do that with. i am thinking about a doing a big sierra madre chip on the front and fucking around with some shading? stay tuned.

hiii friend anon back again with some Thoughts on steve and robin!!
last night my best friend and i talked about nothing and everything on a phone call for nearly 3 hours even though we both have cars and live 10 minutes away from each other. we have a spotify blend and i think in a modern au steve and robin would have one that's 95+% compatible!
robin definitely makes those wool/thread bracelet things on slow days at family video and puts them all on steve; later when steve's bored he unravels them so she can start again :)
steve and robin discuss getting hair changes to sort of make a new chapter of their lives; they end up shittily box dying their hair in streaks in robin's bathroom one day
steve's hair they make pink and robin's is green. later on when they have matching crises about gender and their lack thereof, they go "well! this sucks, we just dyed our hair and now we forgot to cut and style it first." so the next day they go to a proper salon and get it cut-and-styled and they redo the coloured strands at home!!
they steal steve's mom's dresses and steve's dad's suits and dress up in them and have their own little fashion show - neither of them sticks to one specific type of outfit, at one point robin comes out in strings of pearls cascaded around her throat and delicate golden chains tucked into the collar of the shirt of the suit she's wearing; next steve comes out in a blazer and a flared blue summer dress
then they have a slumber party and they are fine!! everything is fine and they are amazing!! until the point where steve says "wait, robin, i don't think i've ever loved anyone like that (romantically) before" and they have to figure that out.
this happens in the span of like two days in which the rest of the party doesn't hear a word from them and then they're completely shocked when the two turn in for their monday evening shift.
have a nice day!! :)
hiiii <3
i know for a Fact that stobin has friendship bracelets like if u ever read a stobin post from me just know they are also wearing friendship bracelets
i used to be a camp counselor for many years and i made many many bracelets… i feel like robin and steve like to have something to do during their movie nights like they can’t just sit there and so i feel like they make a LOT of these bracelets.
i’m torn btwn thinking that robin already knew how to make them (learned from her parents, who i believe would encourage family crafting time when she was little) and thinking that erica taught them (maybe even while they were in the elevator? i can’t remember if she had her backpack but also little girls have bottomless pockets so. plausible)
i know in my heart of hearts that when robin offered steve the first bracelet she made him he was like oh🥺cool🥺thank you robin🥺 and was like. thrilled tearing up etc.
i feel like they make matching lesbian pride flag bracelets as like a subtle way of supporting robin (robin had the idea to make one then got too scared to wear it out bc like. steve what if they know what it means what if they notice. and he’s like robin if they know what it means then what do you think that means about them. and she’s like but oh my god steve but what if!! so he’s like ok make me one we’ll have more matching bracelets :) and robin was like aww stevie… omg ok!!(they’ll make bi flag ones when steve realizes/comes out))
also sorry to focus so much on the friendship bracelets but one more thing 🫣 i feel like el would looove making friendship bracelets like she sees the matching stobin ones and goes fucking insaaane she makes them for everyone (starting with max and mike then making one for robin as a thank you for teaching her <3)
also yeah. when steve picked up dustin for the first time he mocked the shit out of him for the bad hair dye but then he found out that both of them did it to match and he was like yeah ok this makes sense. still looks you guys did this shittily tho.
stobin loooove the harringtons closet. first of all though they do make a million closet jokes it’s actually insufferable. but they love it <3 but the party do not like the fact that by now if the word closet is said in any context they look at each other muppet style and crack up
also yes their sleepover conversations are rollercoasters… like when you trust someone so much and want them to know all of you good and bad it’s so fast to jump back and forth between elation and serious conversation…the girls love to gab!! and sometimes that gabbing means confessing the deepest parts of yourself bc the most important person in your life needs to know the most important things about you!!

my tldr version of the media around brat v ttpd would be: the media and a loud group of fans are so focused on the potential conflict and drama (for clicks/views) that they neglect to engage with the music as an art form and then everyone is disappointed bc instead of knowing the background that’s needed to appreciate the art they’re just listening so they can dig for gossip that may or may not be there
but maybe you’re thinking of something else, I think there’s a lot to discuss
this is also true! i was thinking more about how we’re in a massive media literacy crisis and more and more people are getting upset when art isn’t easily digestible.
before i start this:
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LIKING STRAIGHT FORWARD ART!
but what i was thinking was that brat dives into complex emotions but in a more straight forward/simplistic way. that’s not an insult at charli xcx or the album at all! she isn’t going for the same type of lyricism as other artists (think taylor but also chappell roan or flyna boss). it’s all to personal preference. but a big issue with people discussing brat or preferring it is that they’re saying they don’t want to decipher a bunch of lyrics to relate to it, they just want it and can go. which is fine. but it does create a problem of people then misinterpreting other lyrics because they refuse to actually see what is being said or done. i really enjoyed ttpd:ta because im a pretentious english major but i knew i wasn’t gonna be for everyone or it would take awhile for others to understand it, which is fine. but instead of doing that people instead just conflated it all to being bad. which is where ive seen a lot of the two albums being compared to.
i saw people on tiktok (my first mistake was opening the app, i know) saying that charli is actually making GOOD pop music while taylor isn’t. and while ive already established “brat” isn’t for me i was still very surprised by how well recieved it was. it doesn’t seem like what mainstream pop music would want or like, and while charli has her fans and does deserve her praise and roses i was still surprised. i do stand by my statement that i think in 1-2 years a lot of the general public will say brat was an album of the time because it, to me in my opinion, won’t age well to the general public. i can be wrong, we’ll see. but i think people like it because charli is diving into emotions or relationships we’ve all had. sympathy is a knife and girl, so confused are at the top of my head because those are somewhat universal situations we all have been in. and with charli’s writing style she’s more straightforward so people don’t have to think to hard on it. they can get it on the first listen and go. but this is then tying back to what i wanted to discuss with the media literacy crisis.
i’m going to use my favorite album of all time, “the good witch” by maisie peters, to explain this since i think if i continue with ttpd and taylor people will ignore my point. but i loved tgw because it was not only phenomenal on my first listen but the more and more i listened the more details i noticed and the more i saw just how talented of a writer maisie is. history of man is a prime example obviously, but in watch she uses antanaclasis, which means using the same word but in different ways, with the line “I fought it, but I saw it and it sawed me right in half”! this is an incredible line and realizing she did that word play made me love the song more! and the more i listened the more i found stuff like this and became obsessed with it. and this was because i kept going back and listening to it because i wanted to know more. art and literature are supposed to do this, we’re supposed to sit and think about it and find deeper meaning. not all art but we’re supposed to sit and think on what we saw and what that means for us and the art.
another example with a movie is oppenheimer. i remember when the movie came out people were saying not to see it because it was problematic. and one review i saw even said “all biopics are problematic because the director controls the narrative and therefore controls how you’ll view the person” which was the worst take id EVER seen because this person just said they never think critically about any media they consume. they just let the person making it control them and don’t think about the implications. because oppenheimer is a great movie that explores and discusses war and destruction. and it is a good film to watch but i don’t think the guy who made the ATOMIC BOMB is a good guy and was rooting for him. i still think he is awful cause he is awful. but i still enjoyed the film and thought critically on it and what it means for society. like art should be. but not every movie is like that or intends to have that same meaning. another movie i like is bottoms, which is literally about lesbians starting a fight club to get pussy. no one meant for it to have a deeper meaning than that and it succeeds in what the plot is. this doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie but rather the art is doing something different. it’s a silly comedy for wlw to just have fun. and yet, both films are good.
or with books to. ali hazelwood is a fine author who writes cute romance stories and doesn’t go farther than that while RF kaung is writing books that ask you to think and contemplate what she’s discussing which has made people upset. i remember when babel came out a person read it and made a review talking about how she hated it because she thought it would be a fun fantasy book to read before going back to grad school and was instead confronted with colonialism and racism. she said she made this review to tell others it was okay to not like the book while missing the point that the book was literally describing people like her.
this has gotten slightly miss jointed and is all over the place, but my point is that people are slowly gravitating toward more simplistic or straightforward media that doesn’t necessarily ask them to think more on something. which isn’t inherently bad, you aren’t required to always think hard on everything you consume, sometimes you just wanna listen to fun club music or watch lesbians kill football players. there’s nothing wrong with that. but we’re in a media literacy crisis because a lot of people refuse to sit on media that makes them think. they refuse to think about how songs can have deeper meanings and will instead just focus on “the golden retriever line in the title track is stupid.” and ignore that it was intentionally done like that because taylor was trying to show her and her muse weren’t being smart or as tortured as they thought they were, they were just two idiots being high together. but people refuse to think on that and will only look at a surface level example.
which is what i was getting at, brat isn’t bad and if you like the album im happy! but ive seen a lot of people use this album to tear ttpd down and miss the albums are not only doing two separate things but also then trying to create unnecessary drama.
i hope this makes sense, it was why i wanted to kinda wait to post it so i can get my thoughts in order but this was what i was getting at. it’s not on charli or her album but im more so just talking about the general public.

hey rae, congrats on winning the costume contest! gotta be honest, i got very curious about what you think about promising young woman's politics and the ending. i remember enjoying it, other than thinking it was a bit irresponsable at some parts... but also i watched it a while ago and dont really remember much from it. im currently reading the zombie essays you rec'd, and im franlky loving it so so much. monster theory my beloved. And this is the first time im reading about zombies through sexuality lens, all essays i've read about zombies so far were about afro-latin religions and black resistance during colonization, but im loving, reading it in bed while giggling and quicking my feet, etc.... bc "queer zombie jesus" deserves to be a bed read cmom look at that sexy combination of words. hope you're doing well!! xxx substack guy
hi substack guy <3 would love 2 share my thoughts abt promising young woman but i will do that in a min + put it under a cut bc. spoilers etc. love that ur enjoying the zombie essays tho!! there are so many different angles 2 approach zombies as a monster; if u have any reading recs abt religion + colonization my inbox is always open...i have a book or 2 downloaded but have mostly read scattered articles in that vein. agree that 'queer zombie jesus' is SO fun that was one of my fave articles from zombies & sexuality lol. also just recently bought a book called dead white & blue that's abt zombies + usamerican nationalism so. excited 2 start exploring that topic as well...
anyway. promising young woman thoughts (got long...also tw sa):
still thinking & working thru them etc but. generally speaking i am not a huge fan of movies that fall into the rape revenge genre so i typically start them skeptical, and ultimately i thought it was...an odd choice to have the main character be seeking revenge not for herself, but on behalf of her dead friend's past assault...talk abt a dead girl haunting the narrative etc...but like. usually one of my issues w rape revenge is the tendency to turn the person who's been assaulted into this figure of the Righteous Victim such that they become less a person + more a symbol onto which an audience gets to project + live out violent catharsis etc...honestly don't necessarily think there's an inherent issue with creating or seeking out that form of catharsis in film but i just. do not think it is particularly politically useful...+ this setup just like. took that to the next level by literally removing the Victim from the narrative entirely, stripping her character of all agency + personhood, and making her friend the Agent seeking Justice on her behalf which. i mean it's a bit ironic innit...
was also not too sure how i felt abt the whole setup of "woman goes to bars, acts drunk, and there's ALWAYS a creep who tries to take her home + assault her"...i'm somewhat torn feeling-wise here bc i used to very much have this sort of "all men are [potential] monsters" mentality that like no matter where u go there will be someone there ready 2 take advantage of u but. i no longer feel like that is a very useful framework 4 discussing or addressing sexual violence. firstly in that it tends to devolve quickly into the sort of gender essentialism that i am fundamentally opposed to, but also bc it seems so defeatist to me. how are u supposed 2 address a problem if u assume that the problem is already so baked in, and in such simplistic terms? so while i do understand that this is a film and it's sort of dramatizing what is a very real issue, i'm not sure i was entirely sold on the way it was dramatizing it...felt like it was trying 2 highlight but in the process was also flattening 2 a certain extent...
and then like. i did to some extent appreciate the way the film is trying to highlight that it's oftentimes "nice guys" committing sexual violence, especially bc rape revenge films often just portray the "bad guys" as like. cartoonishly evil. but i felt like even there the film was still wanting to get back into that black + white territory, which manifested especially in the bo burnham character. like, on the one hand the film wants to highlight the fact that people committing sexual violence are often sympathetic, perhaps even kind, "nice" people and not obviously evil bad guys, but on the other hand it did not seem to want to sit in the gray area of what that means at all (ie, asking the audience to actually sympathize with or relate to anyone implicated in acts of sexual violence), meaning that whenever we found out a character was involved in an assault that character immediately became a completely unsympathetic bad guy. and like, again, i understand why the film wants to do that--nobody wants to encourage someone to sympathize with a rapist. but irl sexual violence is by and large not black and white, and the fact is that most people are able to sympathize with and relate to people who have committed these forms of violence, because they're not cartoonishly evil bad guys--they're friends, partners, coworkers, family members, etc. and so again, this just isn't a framework that i find particularly useful in addressing irl sexual violence, bc i think it leads to this dichotomy we so often seen where if The Perpetrator/The Accused is not clearly Evil, then they must be Innocent. so like. the film tries, in some ways, to trouble that dichotomy, but i think in the end it just falls back into it--it's just that the guys we thought were "nice" are actually "bad"; imo the audience isn't really encouraged to sit in any emotional stew beyond that.
i do give the movie props for the actual way it handled portrayals of assault; i thought it did a pretty good job there. in particular was a fan of the way they elected to never show the actual video of nina, and how in basically any scene with sexual violence the emphasis was largely on the face + emotions of the person experiencing it. and i mean i did enjoy the movie, for the most part, while i was watching it--like i thought it was a pretty engaging film, good acting, etc.
but if anything the ending really. solidified my disappointment in the politics of the movie. not just bc cassandra died--honestly, i think the death was an interesting choice and there are ways they maybe could have played it that i would have liked more. but having the "triumphant" ending be the cops swooping in to arrest al...give me a fucking break lol. like u set up this whole movie abt how the legal system + these various institutions fail people who have experienced sexual violence, and then...i'm supposed to expect the cops to handle it? the justice system that already failed previously in the movie? and the entire framing of the ending--cassandra's final texts, the music, etc--makes it clear that this is supposed to be a triumphant moment. so i was just like. wtf....like in the end both women are dead. what form of justice is the suggestion that their abuser might go to prison? especially when prison itself is a violent + corrupt institution that must be abolished as part of the fight to end sexual violence? just a very shitty ending overall to what was already a movie that had me sort of going "hmmm...idk" throughout lol. so! those r my thoughts currently

Snow Cone King: I’m just saying, Ics, that if we have to petition Walmart, we should at least do it with a lot of people.
Flutetastic: ...Almost everyone on this server and probably half of tumblr and a corner of twitter and a few people from school and my entire family
Considering my family includes you and all the cousins on your half too, that’s a lot of people.
Snow Cone King: Amb. Ics, ics you know what this means?
Speedster: Y’all, I think we should just use the online petition thingy. Get millions of email subscribers from all over the world.
Snow Cone King: My dad probably would totally sign a petition to get Inspector Gadget merch back in stores and then actually make it happen
Flutetastic: It’s sm fun to see you have one of those My Dad Is A Millionaire epiphanies.
Flutetastic: Als, why do you save your logic for the middle of our discussions?
Speedster: Gotta take the time to come up with my genius.
Snow Cone King: Show off.
Penny Could Kick Me: I find it very amusing to watch you guys casually say things like ‘one of those My Dad Is A Millionaire epiphanies’.
Snow Cone King: :Squinty eyes: i can’t tell if that’s an insult
Penny Could Kick Me: Is me laughing out loud at you insulting?
Flutetastic: Say no
Snow Cone King: I haven’t decided.
Fluteastic: FE AMB! Q ARE YOU LIKE THIS?
Snow Cone King: I think so?
Penny Could Kick Me: I love you guys.
Snow Cone King: That’s def. A compliment. Thank you.

The Orange Death: Y’all I just found an article saying Damian Wayne and Adam are friends and someone needs to explain to me how that happened and if that means I missed a He-Man reboot
If so, Imma cri
Snow Cone King: Wait who has the rights to He-Man?
The Orange Death: Honestly I figured it was netflix ‘cause they just did that she-ra reboot but like
Apparently not?
Snow Cone King: I’m looking this up amb
Useless Ace: I thought the last reboot was in 2010?
Snow Cone King: I am apparently a very uninformed fan
There was a life action movie in 1987
The Orange Death: What
Snow Cone King: My to watch list is much bigger
I thought there were only the two versions? I don’t even know which versions they were now?
Useless Ace: Welcome to the world of fandom my friend. Experts are few, far-inbetween, and deserve mad respect bc I could care less to follow every bit of canon ever
Snow Cone King: Mood
Snow Cone King: As of dec 18, 2019, Netflix wants to do a CGI reboot
Useless Ace: Oh thank goodness. My biggest beef with the She-ra reboot was the lost potential for Adam/Adora shenanigans.
Snow Cone King: Have you watched it?
 Useless Ace: See above
Snow Cone King:
Actually I can’t judge, it’s still collecting dust on my to-watch list
Whatever
Snow Cone King: Reading more and Mark Hamill? Will be Skeletor?? That sounds like it'll go really well
The Orange Death: Y’all I have no idea but now I’m excited
About time He-Man came back
Snow Cone King: Fr tho, I can’t find anything about ties to dc or where he’d have met Damian
Flutetastic: Whack
The Orange Death: You’re telling me
Snow Cone King: You’re telling me.
Snow Cone King: I’m giving up. Some fandom guru who actually knows stuff can figure this out
The Orange Death: Valid

Snow Cone King: I lied and looked further and apparently not only are there multiple comicverse crossovers (Injustice vs the masters of the universe)(DC Universe vs Masters of the Universe)(he Man and the Masters of the Multiverse(I’m guessing is a crossover too)), but there’s a THUNDERCATS one too!
My childhood will be complete as soon as I read that
Useless Ace: Dude that’s amazing
That’s going top of my to-read list
Snow Cone King: Mood
Gerald: Mood
The Orange Death: King, you really are a king, thank you so much!!!

Is there a nice way to ask her to stop?
Goldie Queen Of France: Tell her she’s making it hard to see. Rlly, just bc we’re magic doesn’t mean we have the right to be a jerk

Jackie of Jackaland: You didn’t even watch the movie

Jackie of Jackaland: Valid point op but pls start watching movies and reading comics before you rant about them based off of someone else’s tumblr rant
Killjoy: That’s less fun
Jackie of Jackaland: You mean less headache inducing
Goldie Queen of France: @Killjoy @Jackie of Jackaland polite, remember? If you’re gonna throw hands, do it in the dms.

Pigtails ftw: didn’t know they were real

@Snow Cone King @Coracle Miracle @Rough-Glamor @Goldie Queen Of France come help me out
So the heart/miraculous of Modification got corrupted by somebody, so far no one knows if they’re a strong sorcerer or a lucky human, but it happened and is messing with all change mages.
Snow Cone King: And he uses the extra power to possess civilians and turn them into rampaging monsters who are supposed to hold the city hostage for the hearts of Destruction and Restoration
Coracle-Miracle: which are, btw, also the hearts of purity and chaos
Snow Cone King: How does that work?
Coracle-Miracle: Those two hearts are the strongest and have multiple tie-in clauses, like luck, but that translates to really dangerous and often selfish sorcerers so instead they split into sections within theirs. It’s really interesting actually! Jaclynn O’Conner wrote a really cool book on it, I suggest you read that.
Pigtails ftw: That sounds demonic
Flutetastic: It nearly is

I swear i thought i replied to some of your questions a few days ago but i’m starting to think that I might’ve forgotten to and now i feel bad. But to summarize it: When we first started watching, he thought that Gale looked a little bit like Ashton Kutcher (but older version) and it was the funniest thing ever to me. He did only talk about it in the pilot though. Btw I am more and more tempted to later on give him Gale’s out of the box interview to watch. Or Randy’s podcast. He has been asking me about the actors a lot lately and if they still act and where are they and if theyre all still friends and I’m avoiding answering because well, one of them abandoned his podcast and the other one we dont even know if he’s still alive until we get a new photo. But I do wonder how he will react when he finds out Gale is straight ngl because right now he fully thinks Gale is gay irl.
Also yes, he has been going on and on about Brian’s growth and how he’s changed since he clocked it around 4th episode. He is so happy that he’s growing and allowing himself to be happy and in love even if he doesn’t want to admit it, that i just know the second 5x01 will start, he will have a mental breakdown and it will be very valid of him.
Your celebrities/therapist story actually made me curious now because how can a celeb that is well known, even get a therapist then without weirdness. I had no clue this was kind of a thing. And yes! My brother would absolutely launch into a discussion about Gale without shame, he’d have pictures and everything ready for it. I mean his confidence when it comes to talking to literally anyone about anything in his life (usually interests and shit he’s done thats funny to him or in this case the show) is impressive as fuck but also for an innocent bystander like me? actually a nightmare to be around that. He truly doesn’t give a single fuck and has zero shame and all the confidence in the world and idk how he does it. He just tells anyone who will listen (not in a trauma dumping type of way but like his interests and such? No shame) to give an example: when he was in high school he made an entire poster presentation for his class to talk about his love for the movie School of Rock and HE DID IT BY SINGING A FAKE ROCK N ROLL SONG (id give anything to remember the lyrics). Mind you, the presentation was supposed to be about current events in politics/world and School of Rock came out like a year or two prior. So you best believe he would do the exact same for Gale or more importantly QAF/Brian/Britin. And as someone who does shy away from talking about qaf just because it is a lot, he on the other hand truly gives zero fucks. Because when we started watching the show, he was fully explaining to the nurses/doctors/anyone that listened(our parents!!!) about how the show is AND HOW BRITIN MET! He TALKED ABOUT THE RIM JOB! I NEVER EVEN FUCKING TOLD YALL THAT! HE TALKED TO OTHER HUMANS ABOUT THE RIM JOB! AND HE WAS FULLY EXPLAINING IT bc he was shocked and surprised at how they filmed it and couldn’t figure out if that meant gale really did do it or not. So if you ever feel like maybe you’ve overshared about something you like and it keeps you up at night. Fear no more because my brother has for sure shared even more and has zero regrets about it.
It is hard to believe Gale is straight because he is that good of an actor and just went fully into the role and really thought deeply about who Brian is. Ugh it hurts my heart to think about just because it’s so full of appreciation for Gale and Randy.
I think you could show him any media that was released while the show was airing. But maybe avoid anything more current? Until he’s done and his heart is broken. He is going to be so upset by all the back pedaling in s5. Which is the correct reaction.
(I kinda love how as a fandom we’re like this is on the writers because Brian would never. Justin would never.)
I have a specific approach I take when I have celebrity clients and I think I could be a therapist to someone I’m a casual fan of. I could never be a therapist to someone I’m actively in a fandom for. I would have to leave the fandom, for starters.
HE TOLD PEOPLE ABOUT THE RIMMING SCENE!?! Oh my god. Anon you have to at least have him listen to Randy’s podcast episode about bottoming where he essentially said that Justin was too naive to do any prep and therefore someone experienced would have never rimmed him without making him at least shower first.
However I will feel so much better about over sharing now. Because holy shit I’ve never overshared like that.

bandaid, dance, sick, and smile for James? :] - @selfrinsert
Band-aid 🩹 - If there was one thing about your f/o that you’d want people to understand, what would it be?
God, where would I even start with how bad people get talking about him
I guess the bare minimum thing would be that he is not a solely good or bad person. The thing with James is that he did do horrible things by the end of his story, but some people will literally make up things that he did not do to try to make him worse than he actually was
James was not perfect. He was paranoid and stubborn and refused to admit he could have been in the wrong, and that doomed him and everything he cared about. But he wasn't out there burning down innocent towns or whatever the hell people incapable of understanding complexity in characters want you to be
bcs we know that James is someone who did good things. There's the stuff on the smaller scale that we see actually first hand in the show, but there are lots of little lines about him doing genuinely good, kind things in there too. Marrow said that he thought James could genuinely change Atlas, something that I think is a sign that James was actually trying to make a difference. Then Glynda mentions something too about how James always does what he thinks will be the best for people
Clearly he wasn't some horrible monster like people want him to be. But thinking he was makes him easier to process. bcs admitting that he was someone who did care-- who wanted to keep people safe and who did what he could to make a better place-- that complicates things. bcs if he was a good person once, that means even people who mean well can fall and do horrible things. And that's something a lot of people have trouble wrapping their heads around. But christ would understand it make my experience trying to talk about him a lot better bcs goddamn am I tired of having 90% of discussion of him be calling him evil or debating his morality
Dance 💃 - Can you or your f/o dance?
James is a good dancer, though mainly in terms of more formal dancing, like waltzing. It's kinda a necessity for being at Atlesian parties, so he got some training for that before becoming general
Sick 🤒 - Your f/o is sick in bed, what do you do?
I'd basically have to fight him to get him to stay in bed, he woud hate to admit that he's sick and just try to fight through it and act like everything's fine. I'd have to try to convince him to stay home and to rest, and the easiest way to do that would be to stay at home with him all day (and try to distract him with movies and cuddles). I also do everything I can to make sure he's comfortable and has medicine or anything if he needs that
Smile ☺️ - What about your f/o makes you smile every single time? Furthermore, what’s something you do that makes your f/o smile every time?
It's so cute when he plays with his tie. It's a way that he stims and I like watching him do that. For me, idk, I think he'd like when I play with his hair

S1: E10 "Asylum"
Another one bc people won't shush and I GUESS I owe you guys. Blah blah blabbity blah
Oh an Asylum. Very classic horror ofc
Police officers? Interesting
Classic ghost story about a haunted asylum. Seems pretty par for the course
Of course they split up why wouldn't they
Oh! Look there are actual kids in here! Lol
WOAH he just appeared hello. I don't think that's him. Or he's possessed.
[ Kayla makes an allusion to her getting bullied by asylum ghosts last week. I know she works at an abandoned asylum, so I do not question this. ]
OOOH MUUUUURDER! SLOOOKIKY MURDER
[ I meant to type spooky. I have no doubt this mistake will be immortalized. ]
The man can barely work a toaster! Sam what's the context. Sam did your dad set a toaster on a fire
Oh are they having some kind of schtick. Sam smacks Dean and then gets more info that way
"Good cop" sure
[ Crepe says she can never tell if Supernatural is copaganda or not. My assumption is its a mixed bag, because what 2005 show starring white men would lean into any kind of ACAB concept. ]
Dean making fun of Sam for being psychic lmao
Dean if you keep making Shining jokes ur gonna get smacked. Again.
Bestie that's noooot a healthy relationship to have with your daaaad
[ Kayla laughs. I know enough about this show prior to watching to know that Dean has extremely pronounced daddy issues. ]
A PSYCHIATRIST? HELLO
This is so. Oh my god.
The psychiatrist is listing off issues in his head as Sam is trying to needle info
"You took forever" Sam had an actual appointment with a psychiatrist lmaooo
Oh look teens. Stupid teens
Please girl you should just LEAVE if he doesn't tell you that he's taking you to an abandoned asylum that's your sign to leave!!! Leave his ass!!!
OH HEY WHAT THE FUUUCK DOPPLEGANGER SHIT?? HE MADE OUT WITH A GHOST???
UH GUYS I THINK I SAW ONE OF YOUR MISSING BODIES OR SOMETHING
Obviously a lot of ableism happening here but that was expected
Kinda loving the music and atmospheric noises
OH HELLO
He shot a ghost
[ Crepe says its the lore. I know. Its still objectively funny. ]
Didn't hurt him, huh? Interesting
Oh its the teen! Hello teen gal
Oh ofc white blond girl dedicated to her kinda shitty boyfriend. Just like in real life
LMAO DEAN "Pay attention to horror movies"
SHE KISSED ME and Sam is like "Hwuh"
UH OH SHES BEEN YOINKED
Face it! Look at it!
Oh? Whats it saying?
137?
Going it alone is probably not a great idea
"I had a crappy guidance counselor" djdhsgsg
I figured. Something doesn't want them leaving.
Ok, so something bad happened to the patients, maybe this doctor was evil or something. The spirits are trying to... warn them? Get justice?
[ It's generally agreed that this is pretty much the standard for spooky asylum stories. ]
Oh cool the gal knows how to shoot a shotgun! Good for her
Was that even Dean calling? It was all choppy...
Oh this is where the cop guy went and lost it
Ohhh whisperssss spoooky
OHHH yep evil doctor ghost. This is just that one Dead by Daylight villian
[ There is now a brief moment of distraction, as Crepe said she thought the villian was "latex suit guy". After some discussion, it is revealed that she had mixed up Dead by Daylight with Until Dawn. ]
Oh there he is. He's not fine though. He's lying he's lyyyying
Oh boy Sam's got his head messed with and just rock salted his brother
Well I mean its like. Its like all his problems and issues have been brought to the surface
Man this is a scene
So much brotherly drama
Getting shot with rock salt has gotta hurt like a bitch
BEHIND YOUUUU
Ewwww there's the body
Gooooodbyyyyye evil doctor
You did mean it on some level Sam
Oh boy! There he is! On the phone! Bastard mc Bastard!

@hidden-joy @behindtheseamp3 you only asked for some fake names to keep all the drama straight but I provided the briefest description of the drama that I possibly could in addition to that. Im not gonna make you read it but it did help me. so here you are.
okay so the suite. there are three bedrooms a small hallway and we all share a bathroom. that’s really all there is to it. here are our players
me! - whether my narration is reliable is neither here nor there but I try
bella - my roommate. self explanatory. I’m not gonna go over all of it again
cameron- girl who I went out to dinner with basically every night and right before winter break I finally started considering her a friend. roommates with patty
patty - seems super chill but I never really talk to her. she always slams doors tho. cameron’s roommate.
sarah - mean girl suitemate. her and I like clicked on the first day and I thought she was so cool but I also thought she was a lesbian at the time but she is. not cool. first of all she’s straight and she always refers to me as a lesbian even though I’ve told her time and time again that I’m bi. she’s pretty rude to her roommate (marie) even though marie is clearly scared of her. she thinks we’re friends but I Really don’t want to be her friend bc of the whole. rude thing.
marie - admittedly pretty awkward and hard to talk to but it’s really not her fault and she Does seem like a very kind person. sarah’s roommate, poor girl.
okay now the actual happenings. this is a doozy but I’ll paint the whole picture so you can get a sense of the group dynamic. so cameron and patty didn’t know each other before they moved in but they got pretty close through texting and were really good pals by the time we moved in. very early on cameron was inviting me to basically every meal. as previously mentioned sarah and I clicked so sometimes she would join us. In these early days we would have like movie nights n shit with the whole suite. as time went on I saw everybody else less save for cameron who I was still eating with all the time and sarah about once a week when she would join us. the main topic of conversation when it was all three of us was our roommates because sarah didn’t like how “weird” marie was, patty was becoming more distant with cameron and she was taking that very personally, and bella was a slob. but it became clear that sarah was like purposely antagonizing marie by being like rude and passive aggressive and based on marie’s reactions, even in the retellings, it became obvious that she was scared of sarah. cameron and I did discuss this a couple of times out at dinner when we felt like sarah had crossed a line. also sarah just wasn’t the kindest person and I didn’t like how she talked about other women sometimes. anyways cameron and I started getting closer but I still didn’t like her all that much. not that she was like a bad person or even annoying or anything, her and I just didn’t get along super well and it was difficult to find common ground on which to have a conversation which mostly resulted in me talking like 80% of the time because she never really had much to say. and this went on from september to december when it started Finally seeming like we could actually be friends. as for the other suitemates, I kept it as civil as I could with bella, I basically never saw marie, and I rarely saw patty. but when I did see patty she was always like. really rude to me. like she would actively avoid talking to me and would ignore me when I tried to talk to her and once slammed the door in my face on the way to dinner with her and cameron. so I brought it up to cameron because I legitimately didn’t understand why patty didn’t like me but she kept telling me she had no idea. which brings us up to winter break.
cameron finished all her finals on monday (lucky) so she left on tuesday morning. after my final that day, I talked to sarah and she asked me if I got a text from cameron and I told her I had but it was super normal so I asked why she asked. and after some back and forth sarah read a text conversation between her and cameron. and to backtrack just a bit, over the weekend sarah moved a piece of marie’s tinsel that was in the bathroom (it was very inconvenient) and took down a piece of paper that marie had on their door (she probably shouldn’t have done that but I wasn’t gonna say anything because it was such a small thing). sarah cameron and i had a conversation that sunday and that came up but cameron said it wasn’t that big of a deal. anyways. that tuesday cameron texted sarah “you need to stop screwing with marie’s shit” and cameron isn’t a confrontational person at all so sarah thought she was joking. it became evident that cameron wasn’t joking and sarah (who was genuinely very respectful throughout this whole text exchange) was like “oh I’m sorry it won’t happen again” but cameron kept saying that the way sarah was treating marie was unacceptable and by confronting sarah she was trying to create a “friendly suite environment” and frankly the conversation was much longer than that but it was basically just cameron getting angry and sarah apologizing. at this point I was more confused than angry because cameron isn’t confrontational and every time she’s had an issue with sarah she’s come to me and been like “wasn’t it weird that she was acting like that?” but has never actually confronted her. and I expressed this confusion to sarah and she told me that she thought it was weird that cameron spent so much time around me when she didn’t even like me. and I was like what so sarah told me that cameron had told her that I was a really mean person but i claim
that I’m being mean. like first of all that’s a quote from booksmart second of all I Told cameron that that was something I struggled with (being to blunt and not understanding when I was being rude) and for her to tell me if I ever crossed a line. sarah also told me that cameron said I was just generally a very negative person and she didn’t like being around me which is wild since she invited me out to dinner with her every night. as you may remember. so that was all very shocking and sarah and I started talking about how patty was the most unproblematic suitemate and how she was so cool and chill and just kept to herself. but I was like “I just don’t understand why she doesn’t like me” and sarah was like “wait you don’t??” and I was like “no….is there an actual reason??” and sarah told me why. and it’s apparently because in like the first week during a movie night I made a joke about not trusting people with blue eyes and that really offended her. obviously I didn’t mean that and I was like “oh my god I had no idea no wonder I really never meant to hurt her” and sarah was like “yeah I just figured you knew because patty talked to cameron about it a lot” like. I asked cameron about it so many times because I really couldn’t understand why patty hated me so much and she claimed she didn’t even notice that she didn’t like me (slamming a door in my face and blatantly ignoring me wasn’t a good enough hint) and that she had no idea why party didn’t like me. but yeah she was just withholding that info from me for whatever reason even though I was very stressed about it. also, side note, at the time I was like “omg I totally understand why she would be so upset with me over that” but after explaining the story to more people literally no it doesn’t lol. like sorry but holding a months long grudge with somebody you literally share a bathroom with over a joke like that is pretty ridiculous. anyways. sarah and I had a very lengthy conversation about our own flaws and how we’ve been trying to become better people. I explained more about how hard it is for me to read social situations and how similar we are personality wise compared to the other suitemates. like we kept saying that we have big personalities and are so much louder and more than all the other suitemates which caused us to question whether or not we are the drama lol. in my opinion she is but I’m not I keep the hell to myself man. sarah keept going back to the topic of cameron and calling her a bitch and how she never wanted to talk to her again and that she’s fake and dead to her. but just I kept saying that I wasn’t even upset I was just really confused. which was true. but for the most part that last 30 minutes of our conversation was a lot of self reflection more than anything else.
so sarah went back to her room and I get an instagram message from cameron that just says “I have no personality, huh?” which like. woah. so I screenshotted it and thank god I did because when I clicked on the conversation and she had already unsent it and there was only a text that said “haha” so I was like “I saw the other text what are you talking about?” according to cameron, patty was listening through the wall to the whole conversation and overheard sarah and I say that patty and cameron have no personalities (it is important to note I was under the impression that patty was listening through the wall to this whole conversation. and I’m not gonna hold that against her bc if it were me I would have listened in too). which we never said actually. so I explained to cameron that I never said that about her and so she asked me if sarah had been talking shit about her. I told her that I wasn’t gonna talk about a conversation sarah and I had In confidence and that if patty overheard everything, couldn’t she just tell cameron what she heard? cameron was upset because she assumed that meant sarah was talking shit about her (correct assumption) but apparently everything with me and her was cool because she immediately started texting me about boy problems. in the meantime I texted patty saying that we could talk if she wanted but she told me no she was busy with finals. eventually I did brief sarah on that and she got even more mad. then winter break came and went. I texted cameron happy birthday and we had a brief convo and on the last day of break she texted me asking when I was going to get back and I told her and that was the last contact we had.
when we got back, sarah was still very upset with cameron but hadn’t talked to her either. also at this point I must admit I was hanging out with sarah a little bit to keep her appeased because she thinks we’re like besties and I don’t wanna be rude. but she knows I don’t have friends and tbh I think she’s treating me like a charity case. anyway. I saw cameron on campus and she avoided me even though I would have said hello but that’s really all that’s happened with her. but more recently I received a text from marie asking if I was here for the weekend but I wasn’t and I asked her if everything was okay and she said no but she would explain later. the next night I was in the suite and she wasn’t there. when I ran into marie in the dining hall I asked her if everything was okay and she said she was “just figuring some things out” but yes she was fine. and that night I had dinner with sarah and she told me that on saturday a boy was over very briefly to pick her up to go on a walk and marie came back and was very uncomfortable and awkward. then that night she never came back to the dorm. at the beginning of the year marie was like keeping tabs on sarah a lil bit just to make sure she was safe and sarah got mad at her for it so sarah thought it would be hypocritical asking her where she was. but the next day marie came back very briefly and brought up an instance from the beginning of the year in which sarah took a picture of marie without her knowledge or consent wearing sunglasses to bed. which is a very weird thing for sarah to do and I told her as much when she first showed me the picture. but bella had told marie about it which was actually very real of her. then marie was gone that night (sunday too). so sarah asked bella what was going on and bella told her that marie was staying somewhere else on campus and that she was fine and that they were thinking about a room swap in which marie and bella are together and sarah and I are together. but that’s all she got out of her. then last night I asked bella if marie was okay and she essentially told me the same thing and that pretty much has us caught up. I’m sure I’m missing some things and it’s a lot more underwhelming when I type it all out but I think you just need to remember that we’re all sharing a bathroom.
