MICHIGAN
2024 Aug 17 (Sat) – We packed up and left Munising at 9:40 a.m.  There was a very thick fog in the area and it made driving slow.  After about 45 minutes, the fog cleared and the drive was better.  It drizzled on and off, raining heavily occasionally.  We arrived at Summer Breeze Campground in Iron Mountain at 11 a.m.  We went through a time change and are now here on central time.
After set up, we took off for town to the WWII Glider Museum.  It turned out there are three venues all collocated – the glider museum, the Cornish Pumping Engine & Mine Museum, and a history museum.  We spoke with the manager about having a group tour next year.
After the museum, we drove to the town of Vulcan to the Iron Mike Iron Mine.  We were given a name and number to call to arrange for a group tour.  When we were done, we found it was pouring outside so we spent a half hour wandering around the store and looking at the wide variety of minerals and gems.  Finally, it stopped raining, and we left.  We stopped at Walmart to pick up some groceries then returned to the campground.
The campground had an ice cream social scheduled for 7 p.m.  It started raining then and we waited until almost 7:30 before going over.  It was over.  The owner apologized profusely.  It was our fault.  We couldn’t be mad about it.
2024 Aug 16 (Fri) – We packed up and left Germfast at 11:30 after stopping at the dump station to empty our tanks.  It was raining pretty hard but it let up to a drizzle long enough for us to empty the tanks comfortably.
We arrived at the Munising Tourist Park in Christmas around 12:30 (it was only 47 miles to the new campground).  It’s a nice park but on grass with unpaved roads.  The rain this morning left a lot of puddles and mud to contend with.  Shortly after arrival, a fierce thunderstorm rolled through with loud cracks of lightning and pouring rain.
When it let up, we drove into the town of Munising.  We checked out the Pictured Rocks Cruises and were told to wait until October before making the group reservation.  We stopped at Muldoons Famous Pasties (pronounced with a broad “a” like ah, not a sharp “a”).  It was OK but I don’t think this would become a favorite food.
We stopped at a couple of campgrounds to gather information and returned to our campground.  We move on tomorrow.  More thunderstorms moved in this evening and poor Sheba spent the night cowering in the closet.
2024 Aug 15 (Thu) – We drove to Grand Marais today.  It was a cute but very small town on the lakeshore.  We walked the one block, and had lunch at The Breakwall.  We drove along the National Lakshore and stopped at the Log Drive overview.  It was a place along the sand dunes where loggers used slide the logs down to the water.  There was warning sign telling people that the slide down was only seconds long but the climb back up could be an hour.  There were people testing that out.  We believed the sign and did not test it.
2024 Aug 14 (Wed) – We continue to have a problem trying to find campgrounds.  Both for the caravan and for us as we travel around Michigan right now.  I called a couple of campgrounds and they were full.  Finally found some and made reservations.
The weather has turned cool.  We actually put the heat on yesterday morning and today.  At least the fireplace works.
We packed up and took the 70-mile drive from Sault Ste. Marie to Big Cedar Campground in Germfask.  Way up north here it looks more and more like Alaska.  We can see the trees that look like they grow in permafrost and there are miles and miles of nothing.  The campground is one big circle.  The sites in the middle are pull throughs and the outer side are all back-ins.  It has a messy look to it and the sites are tight.
Once set up, we took off for Newberry to check out their campground for the caravan.  The folks were very nice and accepted our request.  Then we drove to another campground and were turned away.  They would gladly make a reservation for June or September but they say they are booked solid for July and August.
When driving down the road, Paul spotted an American Legion post.  We pulled in and spoke with the adjutant.  They are willing to put together a dinner for us next year.  On the way back to the campground, we stopped at a logging museum.  It was very interesting and even had a building devoted to the CCC.  Those young men transformed America.
Finally, explorations done, we returned to our campground.  They have only one washer and two dryers (one of them out of order).  We did underwear and socks.
2024 Aug 13 (Tue) – We packed up and left Mackinaw City at 11 a.m.  We left late because today’s drive was only 50 miles.  We arrived at Soo Locks Campground in Sault Ste. Marie at 12:30 p.m.  After set up, we headed into town to check out various venues.  First stop was at the Soo Locks Tour Boat.  After gathering information about a group tour, we walked over to the office for the Valley Camp museum.  There is a combination ticket that can be bought or just to the ship.  There was a power plant next door and there was a group of people outside who looked like they were there to tour the plant.  Driving over, we got information to contact someone for a tour by our group next year.  Then it was lunch time, we walked to the Lockview Restaurant where we were going to have the group eat.  But it really does not have a good view of the locks, even though it is directly across the street from the Soo Locks.  Instead, we stopped in at the VFW Post and talked to the bar manager about having a lunch or dinner there.  She will have to bring the issue to the board.
The town is a cute tourist town.  We walked up and down the sidewalk and bought some items.  We then drove to a liquor store to replenish our libations and a NAPA parts store for DEF for the truck.  And finally, it was a stop at the bank to get some cash.
After we returned to the campground, we went into the office to meet with the manager, Laura.  We stayed here two years ago.  It was owned by the mother of the owner and she told us she accepted no email.  Everything was done by postal mail.  She died and the son now has the campground.  He and Laura are working on updating the policies at the campground, to include using email.  We locked in the campsites for next year’s caravan.
2024 Aug 12 (Mon) – We prepared to pull out this morning when we ran into a problem with the hitch.  Paul had to pull the connecting plate off and examine it.  With a hammer and a screwdriver, he delicately pinched here and banged there and got the plate back in shape.  He put it back on the truck and we were off at 10:30 a.m.  The drive was easy and we pulled into the Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground in Mackinaw City at 2 p.m.
After set up, we went into Mackinaw City to check out the ferry service.  We went to Shepler’s Ferry Service and met with Amy, who I have been emailing with.  We introduced ourselves and confirmed the details of our visit there next year.
Then we went to the Dixie Saloon for lunch.  We thought we were going to an Irish pub but it turned out not to be one.  Oh, well.  The meal was good anyway.
On the way back to the campground, we stopped at the TeePee Campground.  This campground is very nice but expensive.  We were hoping to find a less expensive campground in the area but there are none.  TeePee turned us down for next year citing loyalty to their yearly campers.
2024 Aug 11 (Sun) – We packed up and left Ypsilanti at 9:30 a.m.  It was an easy drive to Standish where we are camped in the Saganing Eagles Landing RV Park. It is a casino and RV park.  We pulled into the campground, parked on the side, and walked about ½ mile to the hotel to check in.  After check in, we went to the Players Club and signed up for a card and got 2 free gifts.  We also had a bite to eat in the restaurant.  When done, we caught a shuttle back to the campground.
2024 Aug 10 (Sat) – We packed up and left Marshall at 10 a.m. and headed out for Ypsilanti.  The drive was short and we arrived at the Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA at 1 p.m.  This place is closer to Detroit than Camp Turkeyville but not nearly as nice.  It has a chaotic, crowded look to it.  There are lots of trees to maneuver around and blowing dust is annoying.
As soon as we were set up, we drove to Wayne County Fairgrounds to see about having the group stay there.  As soon as I asked about group camping, the woman behind the desk immediately shook her head and declared they do not accept groups.  It is too much work and they are too busy.  I tried to argue the point but she wouldn’t budge.  We’ll try to talk to someone in administration, otherwise we’ll have to stay at the KOA.
We then drove into Detroit to look at the Parade Company.  It is a company with over 60 parade floats in a warehouse.  Turned out the place was very difficult to find.  It was located in a run down, dilapidated part of town with several shuttered businesses.  It looked like somebody’s joke of putting a business in a closed warehouse.  We took this place off the list.
On the way back to the KOA, we stopped at Kroger to get some groceries.
2024 Aug 9 (Fri) – We drove out to the Gilmore Car Museum.  They claim to be the largest car museum in North America.  It is located on 90 acres and comprises several outbuildings.  We met with the operations manager to discuss a group tour next year, as well as a catered lunch.  He pointed out they have a campground so we walked over to look at it.  It is a grass field with some electric hookups – 2 50-amp, 4 30-amp, and 8 15-amp.  That’s not enough for a group of 20 so some will have to live on generators for 2 nights.
We then drove over to Air Zoo.  It is a Smithsonian affiliated museum with every kind of aircraft from earliest invention up to space craft.  We added it to the itinerary.
2024 Aug 8 (Thu) – We packed up and left the MORryde plant in Elkhart, IN, after running out at 5:45 a.m. for breakfast.  It was tough to find a place open so early, but we did it.  Then we returned to sit around the lunge and wait for our rigs to be done.  At 8:30 a.m., they were done and we were back on the road again.  Check-in at Camp Turkeyville was 3 p.m. and their website says they will charge an early arrival fee of $25.  We stopped along the way for lunch and tried to drag our feet, but still arrived at the campground in Marshall at 2 p.m.
We talked to the campground manager about bringing our caravan there next year.  She wound up waiving the $25 fee, for which we were really grateful.  We will stay two nights.
After set up, we drove to Fort Custer.  It turned out to be a bust so we will not have the caravan go to it.  We came home and had leftovers for dinner.

Black Wedding
Tumblr media
DECEMBER 2, 2023, SATURDAY
I was so tired from work yesterday. In fact, I've been working really hard this week. I start work early and end late. After work, I usually fall asleep because of how tired I am.
I the weirdest dream last night. A wedding. I was to wed someone I know and it did not feel good at all.
In my dream, I got to wear an all black attire for the wedding. The clothes that I was wearing looks old and it doesn't fit at all.
There was a scene before going to my wedding in a parking lot. I was with friends and I was very happy. The parking lot got filled with water about hip-deep. We didn't mind. We were just... happy.
Going back to thinking I was about to marry, I felt the sadness again. It seems like in my dream, I didn't want to do it but I had to because everyone around me seems to like it for me. Knowing my personality, I would do anything to put smiles on the faces of the people I love.
In my dream, I also saw my sister and her two children. That made me smile. In real life, my sister is not with her two children.
When the time came for me to go to my own wedding, I felt really really sad. I still went. In the venue, a wedding coordinator called me and said that I should change what I was wearing. He said that they prepared clothes for me for my wedding. So, i followed him.
On our way to where he was taking me, I saw Rhed. I then asked Rhed a very serious question. I asked her this --- "How do you live life pretending that you are happy?"
I never got an answer and at this time, I woke up.
I somehow know the message of this dream. You see, when I dream of things out of nowhere, i take it as a message. I try to decipher it. I try to understand it.
Somehow, I understood what my subconscious is telling me. I live my life today trying to be contented with what is given to me. Isn't that the right way to live?
Nowadays, i just trust the universe specially about my relationships. If it stays, then it stays. If not, then another opportunity to be closer to the one that will.

‘Why am I nervous? We've done much more than just kiss. For fucks sake! I'm the mother of his child.’
You took a few deep breaths to calm yourself down before pushing the cart from behind your truck towards the large glass doors of the café. You had offered to take today’s batch of bread and pastries to Levi’s to snag a chance to see him, much to Mikasa’s annoyance.
“Oi, brat! You’re late.”, Levi remarked without looking up from his laptop when the bell above the door rang with your entrance, expecting her to have finally arrived.
“Levi, I’m so sorry! I made an impromptu decision to come here instead of Mikasa and -”, you emerged from behind the lofty stack of boxes.
Your hair was up in a messy bun, you were panting from hauling the weight and the resultant perspiration made you glow. Your continual rambling about why you were late, instantly gave him a feeling of Déjà vu, hurling him eight years back in time to the morning when he first laid his eyes on you.  Mirroring that day, he couldn’t focus on anything you were saying, gawking at you with unblinking eyes given how stupefied he was by the sight before his eyes and the sound of your voice.
“Levi? Are you listening?”, you waved your hand in front of his face, disrupting the mental movie playing in his head.
“Huh? Oh, y-yeah. Hi.” he shook his head vigorously and blinked a few times to bring himself back to the present.
Both a blushing mess, you stood by the entrance to the cafe, smiling at each other like two smitten high-schoolers.
“Are you finally back together?”, a shriek from the opposite end of the seating area made your ears ring.
The cacophony was loud enough that Erwin’s head immediately peaked out of his office; his face riddled with confusion. Both your necks snapped towards the source - Hange was running in your direction with the brightest grin on their face. Every head in the room was turned towards you. Eren and other new members of staff at the café, Armin, Jean, Sasha and Connie were slack jawed with their gaping eyes fixed on you after being subjected to this abrupt and unnecessary announcement. One look from Levi sent them scrambling back to work.
“Fucking four-eyes.” he mumbled as they came closer.
“I knew it! You lovebirds couldn’t stay apart for long!”, they squealed with joy enveloping you both in an spontaneous group hug, not giving Levi an opportunity to flinch away.
“Shhh! Calm down, Hange! We’re not back together. Yet.”, you tugged on their hands trying to free yourself from their clasp.
Levi's eyes met and stayed on yours when you uttered the last word, the way his heart fluttered at the sound of it clearly reflecting on his face.
Yet.
“But you were together last night. You have both put in way too much effort in your appearances today. And the color on Short-stack's cheeks can be spotted from Mars! What am I missing here?”, they observed, unaware of the heat rising within their two friends thinking about their final moments together at the Ackerman home yesterday.
Always the perceptive one, Hange. They weren’t entirely wrong. You did spend forty minutes in your closet hunting for the one floral lemon-yellow dress that Levi loved seeing you in; piling on deodorant while simultaneously cursing the hot summer. You picked your reflection in the mirror apart for way too long, fiddling with the necklace he bought you ages ago while rehearsing what you would say to him.
By the looks of it, he did too. He looked oh-so handsome today. Granted, he always did. But today was different. He wore your favorite navy-blue button-down shirt with slate grey slacks, sleeves folded to reveal his toned fore arms, and the top two buttons left open to aid with the sweltering heat; or was it because he knew that it made you weak in the knees when he wore his shirts that way? And his cheeks and ears were definitely a brighter shade of pink than the raspberry compote on the cheesecake you brought.
He stood pinching the bridge of his nose, his breathing starting to speed up. You figured it was his attempt at suppressing the strong urge to smack the grin right off Hange’s face.
“Hange, I promise, I’ll give you all the details later. But for now, Levi and I have things to discuss.”, you pulled him away before he could act on his impulse.
Taking a seat at the table by the large bay window, kissed by the morning sun, you watched the city slowly rise awake with your cheek resting on the palm of your hand. Levi, who was walking back from the kitchen with a cup of tea for himself and a caramel latte for you, stopped in his tracks to mentally frame this image. It was as if you were a different person than who he met over the last two days.
There were no signs of the anxious but adoring mother from yesterday nor the bewildered, pained ex-wife from the day before; you were the same clumsy, moody, garrulous, as well as kind, selfless and mesmerizing woman he fell madly in love with when you walked in through the doors of this very place eight years ago. How could one person flood his heart with a barrage of different emotions this way?
You acknowledged him with a soft ‘hi’ accompanied by a smile when he sat down on the chair opposite to you, nervous about the forthcoming conversation. You stole occasional glances at each other while sipping your beverages, hesitating to be the one to say the first word.
“Do you hate me?”, he asked out of the blue, his gaze locked on his cup.
“No! Why would you think that?”
“Uh- you obviously had a chance to think about what I said to you after going home last night. Why would you possibly want to still see me?”
“Well, I’m here, aren't I? I want to work on us if you’re willing to try as well, Levi. I want to see where this takes us.”, you smiled, placing your hand on his.
"Me too."
.
.
Four months later
The day of Suki and Furlan's wedding was finally here. The venue was set, guests had arrived and you were busy helping the bride get ready for her special day, having spent all morning with her, Isabel and the other bridesmaids in the bridal suite, chatting away in excitement and anticipation for the day ahead.
“Honestly speaking, Suki, I’d have a hard time keeping my hands off you if I were Furlan”, you teased while draping the veil into her hair, causing her to bury her face into her palms.
“You’re one to talk! Levi has been looking for reasons to see you all morning. I had to turn him away thrice already. I'm pretty sure he is going to murder me after the wedding is over.”, Isabel shot back with a smirk.
The last four months had been nothing short of a whirlwind. After that morning at the cafe, having breakfast with Levi turned into a routine. He brought Luna along on most days, and the three of you spent time chatting and admiring the toddler’s antics over tea and scones while sitting at your usual table by the bay window. Sometimes you’d have her accompany you to the patisserie to give Levi a much-deserved break.
Everyone there was enamored with the little firecracker. Her Uncle Miche had always been her favorite because the gentle giant ferried her around the large kitchen on his shoulders. Bertholdt and Reiner would happily comply to all the orders their mini boss belted out. Annie, although a little awkward around her, listened intently to her endless stories; Mikasa secretly pampered her with numerous treats even after several warnings from you, and Nanaba would fuss over her all the time and try to keep the little one all to herself, earning protests from the others.
The evenings varied between taking Luna to the park or the pier, or just spending time indoors at your place or his. You even celebrated her fourth birthday two weeks ago. All your friends and family, along with some little friends the birthday girl had made at the park were invited. You spent a beautiful evening in the backyard of your house around a bonfire, with a delectable meal and wonderful company.
Levi especially made sure you knew that you were being wooed by taking you out on date nights every now-and-then to the finest of restaurants, walks on the beach, to the drive-in theater a few miles outside your town, or star gazing from your favorite spot up the nearby hill. You both were working through your differences and had barely had any disagreements during the time spent together. Things were slowly falling in place; in fact, this newly re-built relationship with him felt much stronger than ever before.
The flashback ended when the wedding planner knocked on the door indicating it was time for the ceremony to begin. You, Isabel, and the other bridesmaids ushered Suki to her designated spot, making sure her dress, hair, make up and flowers looked perfect.
.
.
Standing at the altar by Furlan’s side as his best man, Levi was relieved that he would finally be seeing you soon after being apart all morning. Lately, the two of you spent most of your time together; and this sudden separation had him feeling restless.
On cue, the two harpists seated on either side of the rows began to play heavenly tune of ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perry, a prompt for the bride’s party to start making their way towards the altar. He watched patiently as bridesmaids accompanied by groomsmen walked down the aisle, waiting for you to finally appear. He almost forgot to breathe when your form eventually entered the nave, walking a short distance behind Isabel and one of Furlan’s friends.
You wore the emerald gown from your encounter with him at the store four months ago, and looked a million times more beautiful this morning. Your usually open hair was tied into an elegant loose braid with some curly strands framing your face. The sun rays falling on your silhouette from the towering stained-glass windows of the church made you look like an angel descending solely upon him. He finally began breathing again when you smiled at him and mouthed “breathe”, after taking your position at the altar.
Levi only peeled his eyes away from you when Luna’s giggles reverberated off the stone walls as she waddled down the aisle, scattering petals of baby pink roses, about the same shade has her chubby cheeks, on the ivory carpet. You wiped a stray tear rolling down your face as you both proudly watched her play the part of a flower girl with utmost perfection. Upon making it to the end, she ran to you and buried her face in your gown, suddenly feeling shy from the cheers and applause she received from the smitten guests.
You instantly scooped her up and held her close, letting her nuzzle into the crook of your neck, cooing sweet words of encouragement into her ears. Levi was so taken by this divine scene before him that he failed to notice the bride's much awaited walk down the aisle; surprised to directly find Suki standing at the altar, facing Furlan with her lips curved into the widest smile before his attention found you and Luna again.
He lost track of how long he was marveling at his two perfect girls for, until he felt an elbow harshly crash into his ribs, knocking the wind out of his lungs.
“Is this revenge for your wedding?”, Furlan frowned.
Levi blankly stared at him, having no clue what he was talking about
“Ring, Levi!”, the fuming groom growled.
Oh, right. He pursed his lips in embarrassment melting under the scrutiny of the baffled guests while he handed over the ring that was in the safety of his blazer’s pocket. His eyes darted towards an alarmed Suki and silently apologized to her. Then his gaze moved back to you, an impish smirk on your face as you stared back at him, knowing exactly what was going on in his mind.
Fuck! Furlan was not going to let this go for a long time.
Luna had lost interest in the festivities midway through the nuptials and had fallen asleep in your arms. After the ceremony, when everyone began to make their way outside the chapel, Levi swiftly moved over to walk beside you and offered to carry the snoozing toddler. You groaned after her weight left your body, stretching your sore shoulders and aching back .
“Stop that. You have no idea how hard it is to control myself from jumping your bones, especially when you look this gorgeous.”, Levi whispered in your ear, snaking an arm around your waist.
You glanced around awkwardly making sure his words did not fall on any prying ears and gave him a quick smack on the shoulder, trying to suppress the heat creeping up your neck.
.
.
Time skip – Evening
The wedding reception was underway. You sat at a table sipping lemonade, watching the newlyweds grooving to the beats of music being played by DJ Zeke. Levi swapped his usual glass of Macallan for a cup of ginger lemon tea; His reason being that his throat was sore from carrying out best man duties. But you knew he was just being supportive of your goal to stay off alcohol.
Erwin and Hange sat by the bar, socializing with Furlan’s Boss, Mr. Pyxis while Luna was busy playing duck-duck-goose with some new toddler friends she made at the venue. Levi needed to be physically restrained from ambushing Isabel who he had discovered slow dancing with the same groomsman that walked alongside her at the ceremony. Miche and Nanaba were spotted in a rare public embrace, dancing leisurely to the slow music; and your army of helpers consisting of Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Sasha, Connie, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie took the lead on setting up tables as yours and Levi’s patisserie and café were the official caterers for the evening.
The choice of DJ Zeke's next track brought a sparkle to your eyes. Your smile spread from ear to ear when ‘Fly me to the Moon' by Frank Sinatra emanated from the speakers. You sang along and began swaying cheerfully in your seat to the melody.
“Remember, Levi? This was the song we had our first dance to at our wedding.” you reminisced; a nostalgic smile spread across your face.
“How can I forget?”, he asked.
His eyes were unfocused, lost in memories of his own. He remembered how ethereal you looked in your white wedding dress. How your diamond jewelry shimmered under the spotlight, how you whispered honeyed words into his ears when he felt exceptionally uncomfortable dancing in public, how warm your hands felt wrapped around his body, how your breath tickled his neck. He’d give anything just to go back and relive that moment.
You gaze was still lost among people enjoying themselves on the dance floor when a stretched-out hand entered your line of vision. Your eyes followed it to land on Levi’s face. A quirk in your eyebrows wordlessly asked him what this action meant.
“Let's dance.”, he said.
“You, Levi Ackerman, are willingly asking me to dance? Did someone spike your tea?” You smirked, earning an eye roll from him.
“Oi, brat! Let’s go before I change my mind.”
“Only if you ask nicely.”
“May I have this dance with you, my love?”
You accepted and the pair of you headed towards the dance floor. He gently pulled you close to him and firmly held on to your hand. His other hand wrapped firmly around your waist and you rested yours on his shoulder. You both moved to the slow rhythm in perfect harmony, as you drowned in those gorgeous blue-grey eyes. It felt like the world around you had dissolved and it was just the two of you and the music.
“You look nice today. I see you bought the same gray suit you hated with a fiery passion.”, you teased.
“How could I not after you said you liked it?”
You looked over his shoulder to Suki and Furlan flashing you a wide grin from across the dance floor. And so did Hange, Miche and Nanaba from over that the bar. Erwin gently raised his drink in your direction. The heat from the from the sudden metaphorical spot light you stood under was cooled by the kiss Levi planted on your cheek.
“Did I tell you how lucky I feel to have you?”, he whispered into your ear as while brushing strands of hair off your face.
“I could stand to hear it more often.”, You hid your blush by resting your forehead on his shoulder, feeling too shy to keep his gaze.
“It's true. You’re the most beautiful woman is this room tonight, scratch that, you’ll be the most beautiful woman anywhere, any day; and I get the honor of calling you mine.” he cooed, drawing gentle circles on your back with his fingers.
“You’re awfully talkative today!”, you lifted your head again to reveal a contagious coy smile spread across your lips.
“Don’t be stupid. I’ve always been talkative.”,
“Come with me.”, he moved you off his chest and tugged at your hand.
“Where?”, you asked in utter confusion, and a bit of annoyance at the wonderful moment being ruined, just to receive silence in response.
Levi quickly glanced over to find Luna munching on garlic bread sticks with Erwin and Hange, as he guided you away from the venue and towards the lake nearby. The ripples in the water gleamed under the moonlight, resembling liquid silver. Warm yellow light from the lamps on either side of a wooden dock dimly illuminated the path that led to a gorgeous gazebo that stood at the end, its ceiling sprinkled with fairy lights that defined the intricate floral carvings in the wood. You stood in the center of the structure and slowly spun around, marveling at the work of whose ever brilliant hands built it.
“Levi, this is stunning!”, you said gazing in all directions, running your fingers over the sophisticated engravings.
“Yes, it is.”, Levi agreed, his eyes not on the architecture, but instead on the human embodiment of radiant sunny day that stood by his side.
Not remotely expecting anything to outshine the sight before you, your vision was captured by an extravagant display of red, green, and gold against the dark blanket of the night’s sky. You jumped when the sound of the first soaring explosion caught you off guard. An arm slid across your waist and a kiss was placed on your temple. You were enamored by the shattering sparks of the fireworks, eliciting frequent oohs and aahs, until a voice snapped you out of your reverie.
“Marry me.”
It took you a few seconds to fully register what you just heard. But when you did, overwhelming feelings of joy rendered you speechless; fingers absentmindedly running over the carved railing of the gazebo, stunned orbs darting between the brilliant sky and the love of your life.
This time Levi had to remind you to breathe.
Your eyes and lips both turned into wide Os, and you slapped your hands to cover your gaping mouth when he slowly lowered himself to kneel before you, opening a little black box containing the same gorgeous ruby ring from all those years ago, which he sneaked out of your nightstand during one of his visits.
“I know that you said you wanted to take this slow. But the last four months with you have been the most precious of my life, where I got a glimpse of what having a perfect family would be like. I learnt the hard way, what I lost when I lost you and you gave me a second chance at finding happiness when you decided to come back. I promise to love and protect you every single day for the rest of my life, and even after. You complete me, love, and you complete our family. So, will you do me the honor of being Mrs. Ackerman, again?”
“Levi...”, your trembling voice was barely audible.
“Yes.”, you breathed, letting the floodgates finally open when he slid the ring on your finger.
He got back on his feet and engulfed you into the tightest embrace as you wept joyous tears into his shoulders.
“I love you so much!”
“I love you too!”, moving to look into your eyes, he cupped your face with warm hands.
And finally, his lips found yours.
It felt... like home;
Like laying in a cozy bed after a long day of work, like the warm chocolate sauce on a cold scoop of ice-cream, like wearing a fuzzy sweater on a crisp autumn evening, like walking barefoot on the beach at sunset, like taking a cool shower on a blazing summer afternoon, like everything you ever needed.
After being torn apart from the one person who made your life perfect, you were finally back in the soothing confines of his strong arms, resting against his able chest, ready to fall apart; all while the fireworks in the sky mirrored the fireworks in your hearts.
“Mama! Papa!”
You were awoken from this surreal euphoria by the most beautiful squeal you had ever heard. Both your heads turned towards the source of it – a tiny figure running towards you with all her might while all your near and dear ones including the newlyweds watched from a distance, cheering merrily.
“They knew?”, you gasped, sobbing and sniffling from the joyous tears.
“Yeah, pretty much everyone but you knew.”
Luna flew into Levi’s open arms when he bent down to receive her. The three of you merged into one blob of a positively smothering family hug, only pulling away to pepper each other with more kisses. Levi held his two girls close. His sun and moon were now back together in the sky of his life. He looked into Luna’s crescent shaped eyes and whispered,
“Moon beam, Mama’s coming home.”

Valentines | CEO Peter
Tumblr media
Peter was a classy man. He wasn’t one that went for cliches and he wasn’t one to fall for the world's antics on celebrating a ‘day of love’ just as a ploy to spend money on candy and flowers.
Last year, since you were in love with the idea of valentine's day, he agreed to take you to dinner, allowed you to dress him up and then dress him down at the end of the night.
Hearts and flowers weren’t totally this thing, or well at least not in public.
This time around? Different story.
Peter is really lovesick. He is head over cufflinks in love with you. You’re wearing his ring, and your initials are tattoo’d just behind his ear. He is devoted to you, and he wants you to know that. So he might have gone a little crazy. It really didn’t help that he hasn’t seen you all week.
You’ve been in Ohio, with he who shall not be named, on a work business trip. You were meant to be home yesterday morning, but weather loves to fuck things up. Your plane was delayed and you didn’t end up getting into town but around 3 am this morning. Since your brother lives just around the corner from the airport, and you and Peter live a good 45 minutes away, it just made sense to crash at Ashtons.
Peter understood, and really didn’t want you driving that far while being dead tired, he needed you safe. With that said, it still really sucked to spend yet another night alone in the cold sheets.
Soooooo, that amped up his wanting to do something special for you.
The man not only had the whole store catered for breakfast for you and your employee’s, he also had your office completely filled with dozens of bouquets of roses and sunflowers (your two most favorite flowers).
But that’s not all. You kept finding little gifts everywhere. Opening your desk drawer to grab a notepad left you munching on a box of chocolates. Accepting the shipment for the day had you hugging a 6 ft teddy bear.
You called him once the shipment guys left, leaving you alone in the back of the shop.
“Mrs. Mendes, Happy Valentine’s day!” Stan answers cheerfully.
“Hi Stan! Happy Valentine’s day to you too!”
“Thank you Mrs. Mendes.”
“He busy right now?” You ask, chewing on your thumb nail.
You hear some shuffling and a murmured voice. “He’s about to step into a meeting, he’s walking past me as we speak.”
“My wife?” You hear in the background, and then suddenly his voice fills your ear. “Hi Baby.”
“Hi Love.” You sigh, melting into your seat from the sound of his voice alone. “I don’t wanna keep you.”
“Please do.” He responds.
“Bad meeting?”
“A fire is about to go out.” He nods, using some code to tell you he’s about to fire someone.
“Oh, well then call me after.”
“Or better yet, I’ll pick you up after.” He quips.
“Um,”
“I got the rest of the day off.” He bribes.
“Okay, when should I expect you.” You grin.
“Really? You can come?”
“Baby, I’m the boss, I can leave if I want. I’ve just spent the week working for this place in a different state.”
“It’s sexy when you say things like that.” You hear a gag and then Peter’s rough chuckle. “Fuck off Stan.”
You smile and bite your lip, taking notice of how good of a mood he’s in.
“Well? Am I ditching this place or what?”
“Be ready in 30, this fire won’t take long.”
“Okay, and Mr. Mendes?”
“Yes?”
“You’re always sexy.”
He chokes a bit and you giggle as you hang up your phone, strutting your stuff off to the sales floor to tell Micheal you’ll be leaving soon.
**
You start running a little when you see him leaning against his 2019 Porsche 911. He looks too good to be true, and he’s all yours.
“Baby!” He cheers, standing up straight to catch you as you jump into his arms.
Your legs wrap around his waist, locking your ankles at the small of his back. His arms tighten as you bury your face in his neck, and he kisses your neck as he takes in a deep breath of your perfume. A plus from you working at a body shop, you always smell so good.
“Fuckin’ missed you.” He mumbles against your skin. “Don’t ever leave me for that long again.”
“I won’t, that was pure torture.”
He walks you around to the passenger side of his car, tapping your bum a few times to get you to hop down.
“Can I drive?” You grin at him, eyeing the car.
“If you’re good maybe I’ll let you someday, but today I have plans in store that are meant to be a surprise.” He says helping you into the seat. He shuts your door, walking around the car and slipping in himself.
“Can I have a kiss then?”
“You don’t even have to ask that question.” He hums, leaning over the console to plant his lips on yours.
“Thanks for my flowers, chocolates, and teddy bear. Although I don’t need a teddy bear, I already have you.”
“Okay, so you’re going to be extra cheesy today?” He raises his eyebrow at you as he pulls out of the parking garage.
“Me? You sir had me drowning in roses today.”
He grins, shaking his head. “I’ve arranged for Bailey to get your gifts at the end of the work day when the store closes. I don’t want him messing up your conversion walking in and out so much.”
You stare at him in awe and lean over to kiss his cheek. “The team says thank you for breakfast, and I’m saying thank you for being an incredible husband.”
“Speaking of that.” He clears his throat. “We keep calling each other husband and wife.”
“Yes we do and it confuses the hell out of everyone, I love it.” You giggle.
“What if it didn’t anymore?” He inquired.
“What do you mean?”
“What if I told you we’d actually be married by the end of the night?”
“Really?”
“What if I told you Bailey was setting up an Officiant right now?”
“Really?” You squeal turning to him. “What about the wedding we’re already planning? You know with our Mom’s, the planner, the dress designer?”
“We’ll have that.” He nods. “But it’s taking too long to make you my actual wife. So what if we got married today, and again in a year when the wedding’s planned. We’ll know we’re already married, to everyone else they’ll celebrate our marriage, for us we’ll celebrate our anniversary?” He grins, looking at you.
“I think I’m in love with you, and that I’ll do anything you want.”
“Anything?” He teases.
“I mean a honeymoon has to happen right?” You tease back.
“Oh Baby you don’t even know what you just asked for.”
**
You stare at yourself in the mirror and smile. Peter had taken you to pick out a simple dress for tonight, then to a jeweler to pick out his and your ring, and then dropped you off at home with a stylist team to glam you the fuck up.
Bailey holds the door for you as you climb into the limo. Peter’s going full out tonight. Pulling out all the stops.
The drive to the venue is short, mainly because you’re heavy in your thoughts, but before you know it Bailey is opening the door for you and helping you out.
You’re handed a bouquet of roses and sunflowers while ushered into the dim building. A few of the stylists fuss about a few strands of your hair, and fix your dress a bit. When they finally have perfected your look they scurry away.
Music starts and Bailey appears to open the double doors for you. “Ready?” He asks softly.
“More than ready.” You smile at Bailey.
“You make a beautiful Bride Mrs. Mendes, thank you for being in our lives.” With that Bailey opens the door and watches you walk down the aisle.
Peter has booked out the most amazing venue, it’s empty, save for an arch in place behind Peter and the officiant. Raul and Shawn stand in the front row, both in nice slacks and a button up shirt. Raul’s in red, Shawn’s in yellow, matching your flowers. They both smile at you and watch you walk to Peter at the end of the aisle.
Before you know it Peter is dipping you down to kiss you fiercely, you’re named Mrs. Mendes, officially, and suddenly the world is just right. You finally feel like you belong in this crazy place.
“Congrats!” Shawn cheers, Raul whistling as Peter stands you back up, hand firmly gripping your ass.
You giggle as you pull away, turning towards the boys. Peter kisses your cheek and is ready to whisk you off, but you laugh harder as you stare at Shawn and Raul.
“What are you laughing at Sis?” Raul asks.
“You look like Ketchup and Mustard.” You lose it when they stare at each other and laugh too. Peter lets out a good belly laugh and shakes his head.
“Let’s go, I’m ready to take my wife home, and kick these losers out.” He tugs you down the aisle.
“Oh we can at least get the McDonalds boys dinner.” You giggle, cackling at the fact that your jokes are just gonna keep on rolling.
“Wow, make her a Mendes and she suddenly feels like she can tease you.” Shawn says to Raul, nudging his elbow.
Raul grins and rushes towards you and Peter, swooping you up over his shoulder, twirling in circles. “Oh Sis, what’s the matter? Feeling a little dizzy?”
“Raul stop!” You laugh, hitting his back repeatedly.
“Raul.” Peter stands straight, crossing his arms over his chest. “Put my wife down before something seriously happens to you.”
“Ooh, scary.” Raul scoffs, setting you back on your heeled feet. You sway and reach for Peter as you try to regain your footing.
Peter swings you up into his arms, holding you with one arm under your back and the other under your knees.
“What is with you two and picking me up?” You ask, leaning your head on his shoulder.
“It’s customary for the groom to walk his wife over the threshold.”
“We’re not home though.” You point out with a raised eyebrow.
“I’m practicing then.” He grins, leaning down to kiss you softly.
“Okay, we don’t need to see you practice for the honeymoon.” Shawn gags.
Peter rolls his eyes, looking to Bailey as you all step outside. “Bailey, take Mickey-” He points to Shawn, “And Dee-” He points to Raul, “Home so I can take my wife away from the greasy mess they are.”
“Haha.” Shawn rolls his eyes. “Very funny dickhead.” Raul shakes his head. “You wanted us to match her flowers, we were good brothers and followed your orders. Should be thanking us.”
Peter smiles, looking at his brother, setting you down and engulfing each in a huge hug. “I do thank you. Thanks for being the witnesses to the greatest achievement of my life.”
Each brother wraps you up in a big hug, leaving you with your Husband.
“Well Mrs. Mendes,” Peter holds your hand as he leads you to his Porsche. “What do you say about driving me to the beach house?”
“I get to drive?”
“I told you if you were good you could.” He nods opening the drivers side for you.
“And if I want to be bad?”
“Oh Baby you’ve got a whole mini honeymoon to be bad.”
“Mini honeymoon?”
He nods, leaning against the car. “Beach house this weekend, alone. Month in Bora Bora once you’re settled at work.”
You raise your eyebrows, grinning at him. “So I have a lot of time to be bad.”
“Do your worst Mrs. Mendes.”

Thanks for your patience as we get to the end of this story, couple more chapters to go and I’m hitting some serious writer’s block. I’m getting there, but slowly!!
Thanks to @wickedgoodbooks, @happytoobserve, @mo-nighean-rouge for their support.
23. A Hectic Enterprise
Phoebe: (her mobile phone rings) Oh, it's my wedding planner. She's driving me crazy! (she answers) Hello... Hey, ok, stop screaming! Ok? So, halibut. All right, so salmon, either way. I don't-I don't... it doesn't matter to me!
Friends
Claire was roused from sleep by a persistent squeaking close to her left ear. Opening one eye, she was greeted by a big grin from William, his hedgehog firmly clasped in his fist. An aroma of dirty nappy filled the air.
“Morning, precious,” Claire said croakily.
William babbled in delight and pushed the hedgehog even closer to her ear.
“Not so close, lovie.” Claire sniffed. “Jamie, someone ‘round here needs a clean bottom…. and what time is it? I can’t be late. We have so much to do. I’m meant to be meeting Mrs. Crook… and the caterers… and the florist is coming. And we have the rehearsal this afternoon at the church, so Geillis and Dougal need to have arrived before then —“
“Dinna fash. It’s no’ even seven yet.” Jamie stopped rifling through a suitcase and turned around to face Claire. “I heard William stirring and jes’ thought I’d bring him in tae say hello before getting him cleaned up. I ken we’ve a lot tae do.”
William suddenly launched himself forward from his sitting position onto Claire’s chest. Laughing, Claire brought her arms around to cuddle the baby. Jamie stood still for a moment, just watching as she rolled William onto his back and began tickling him. William erupted into fits of helpless chuckles. Jamie put down the nappy cream and moved back to bed. What difference would five minutes make?
Jamie lay down on top of the covers and joined in, gently biting William’s toes through the fleecy sleepsuit. His eyes met Claire’s as a wave of pure joy washed over him.
“I canna wait fer tomorrow,” he whispered.
“Me neither.”
“Dadadada,” William babbled as he rolled back towards Claire and grabbed a handful of her curls.
“Hear that?” Jamie spoke proudly. “He said dada, he called me dada.”
“I think you’ll find he actually called me dada. But we can be working on it… together.”
*******
By the time Claire had showered and dressed, Mrs Crook had arrived and was busy feeding William his porridge. The baby smacked his lips greedily between mouthfuls, trying to grab the spoon from Mrs. Crook’s hand.
“He certainly likes his food,” Mrs.Crook said as Claire planted a kiss on her cheek. “Jes’ like his da.”
Claire poured herself a cup of tea and joined them at the table. “Where is his father?”
“Och, we dinna ken, do we, ma wee puddin’?”
Spooning the dregs of the porridge into William’s mouth, Mrs. Crook then handed him the spoon.
“Jamie went out a few minutes ago wi’ Brian. They didna say where.”
Having discovered the spoon contained no more food, William pushed his bottom lip out in a sulk. His mood was lightened somewhat as he discovered the tympanic qualities of the spoon, enthusiastically banging it on the tray of the high chair.
“You are a noisy little tyke, aren’t you?”
“Dadadada”
“Oh William, you have to remember. Say that when your da is actually here,”
Claire lifted William out of the high chair, still tightly clutching his spoon.
“Did ye take a wee keek at the marquee when ye arrived?”
“No, it was dark by the time we got here. Let me just get a jacket on William and then why don’t we both go and have a look?”
**********************
Claire hitched William more securely on her hip and looked around the marquee… the cavernous marquee… the cavernous, unfinished marquee. Stacks of chairs were stored in one corner, tables in another. Several large hampers had been dumped on top of a makeshift platform. The structural steel poles stood grey and unadorned. Claire turned to Mrs. Crook, dismay clearly etched on her face.
“It’s nowhere near ready, Mrs. C, is it?”
“Ah, dinna fash, Claire. They’re on the way now. Ye’ll see, by this evening, ye willna be able tae recognise the place. Trust me, I’ve seen this every year wi’ the Hallowe’en party. It’ll be grand. I’ll be away and wait fer them in the yard.”
After Mrs. Crook had left, Claire wandered around trying, and failing, to imagine the finished decor. She had faith in the event planners, up to a point,  but this seemed too much even for them.
“Yoohoo.”
Geillis appeared from behind a stack of chairs and looked around. “I like what ye’ve done with the place. Kind of workhouse chic meets brutal minimalism.”
She kissed Claire’s cheek and ruffled William’s hair.
“Geillis! We weren’t expecting you until later. How early did you get up? And where’s Dougal?”
“Och, he’s faffing about with the car, trying to park it so it doesna get scratched by any of yer comings and goings. And, for yer information, we drove up yesterday,” she unstacked a chair, placed it in the middle of the floor and sat down.
“Weel, I was sae inspired by yer Jenny’s story the other week. Ye ken, the one about the highland warrior and the serving wench. We decided tae drive up yesterday, find a wee glen and try it fer ourselves.”
“It worked a treat,” Geillis winked. “And—“
“Hello, ye in here?”
To Claire’s relief, Geillis immediately halted her, no doubt overly detailed, story as Dougal sauntered into the marquee. Whilst not quite as tall or as broad as Jamie, and at least twenty years older, Claire recognised there was a certain tough quality about him. He would definitely have made a good warrior, fighting the redcoats.
“Morning, Claire,” Dougal pecked her cheek. “And who do we have here?”
He scooped William out of Claire’s arms. She glanced across at Geillis, who gave a small uncertain smile.
William looked momentarily surprised by this stranger but relaxed against his shoulder.
“Da—“ he began.
Claire shot him a warning look. “What have I said, William? Save that for your da.”
William put his thumb in his mouth and proceeded to tap the spoon he was still holding against the side of Dougal’s head.
“William, no! Sorry, Dougal.”
To the baby’s disgust, Claire prised the spoon from his tightly clenched fist. He let out a wail of dissatisfaction, only quietening as he heard his father’s voice coming into the marquee.
“Ah, Geillis, Dougal. Good tae see ye. Fancy a coffee? Ma sister and her family have jes’ arrived too.”
Jamie took the fidgeting baby from Dougal as they walked back to the house.
“Are you not worried about the state of the marquee?” Claire whispered to Jamie.
“Och, no. It’ll be fine. I saw the vans pulling up as I came in. Trust me, Sassenach. Ye’ll see.”
**************
The old stone church had been the focus of Fraser family worship for many generations, as various plaques and stone engravings bore testament to, and was an intrinsic part of Jamie’s memories. It was here that he had been christened. Although that was obviously not one of his memories, he still cherished the photograph taken by the font of himself in his father’s arms while his mother wrangled an unhappy toddler Jenny. It was here that Jenny married Ian, and her children were christened, too. And in less happy times, it was here that his mother had been lain to rest.
So, it had always been important for him to marry here. When Claire had willingly suggested Lallybroch as their wedding venue, he had been both thrilled and touched by her enthusiasm for his family home and traditions. He tried not to think about the possible battle looming over any suggestion of William being christened here.
The priest greeted them in the doorway and escorted them down the aisle towards the altar, explaining the order of service and their roles tomorrow. A noise in the porch indicated the arrival of Ian, Geillis, Jenny and Wee Jamie.
“Da and Murtagh are looking after Maggie and William.” Jenny explained.
“Aye, and Dougal offered to help them.” Geillis added with an exaggerated  eye roll.
Wee Jamie pulled on his mother’s hand and whispered loudly. “Where are all the people, ye ken? The people what watch us. There’s no-one sitting on the benches.”
Jenny pursed her lips in an effort not to laugh. “This isna the wedding, Jamie. It’s a rehearsal, a practice fer tomorrow, so ye all ken what tae do.”
Wee Jamie breathed a loud sigh of relief. “That’s good ‘cos I havena got the rings, nor ma kilt.”
Jamie felt the butterflies building in his stomach as the priest positioned himself and Ian at the front and then instructed Claire, Geillis and his nephew on walking formally down the aisle. Jenny hovered, anxious for Wee Jamie, but she had no need for worry. Her son strode down the aisle in front of Claire, his tongue peeking out from between his lips in concentration as he held his arms in front of his body, pretending to hold a cushion.
Jamie watched as Claire approached with measured paces, the only sounds being the footsteps on the hard floor tiles. He found himself holding his breath as she drew closer, until…
“Oh, poo,” Wee Jamie said in a loud voice, the word echoing around the stone walls. “I forget which way tae go now.”
“Sorry, Father.” Jenny quickly apologised. “Jamie, apologise to Father Michael for saying that word.”
“Sorry, Father,” Wee Jamie repeated. “But we say it all the time at home, Da sings a song about poo tae Maggie. He says it’s no’ a bad word.”
Jenny glared at her son as Jamie and Ian dissolved into fits of laughter. “Aye, it’s no’ swearing but we dinna say it in the kirk, OK?”
“Weel, I think we’re about done now fer today. We all ken what we’ve tae do, and,” the priest looked hard at Wee Jamie. “And what we’ve no’ tae do tomorrow.”
**************
The sun was beginning to set as they made their way back to Lallybroch. Mrs. Crook had already left for the day, with plans for a ‘shampoo and set’ at the local hairdressers before a good night’s sleep.
Despite an invitation for Geillis and Dougal to join them for a family dinner,  Geillis graciously declined. Claire wasn’t sure if Geillis was worried about the proximity of so many babies and small children giving Dougal more paternal thoughts, or if Geillis had some thoughts of her own of a less pure nature to share with Dougal. With a promise of an early return to Lallybroch, Claire bade farewell to the couple.
Jamie had momentarily disappeared. Claire supposed he was keen to reclaim his son from Brian and Murtagh. She turned and walked across the gravel forecourt to the kitchen door. A whistle made her turn around. Jamie stood on the makeshift path leading to the marquee.
“Fancy a quick keek at it now?” He asked.
“Or maybe I should wait ‘til they’ve finished in the morning. I don’t want to be thinking about it’s unfinished state tonight.”
“Oh, come on. A quick look.”
He held out his hand and led her into the marquee.
Jamie had obviously crept in and switched on a couple of lights on the small platform stage. Claire looked around in amazement. Though dimly lit, the transformation from that morning was clear. In front of the stage, a dance floor had been laid. The circular tables were in place, each adorned with a pristine white tablecloth and gauzy russet runner. A posy vase in the centre of each table stood ready for the simple sprigs of autumn leaves and berries to be added. The chairs reflected the colour scheme with white covers and russet bows.
One corner of the marquee was occupied by a bar, not yet stocked. Empty pedestals were scattered around, waiting for the florist’s artistry the following morning. The steel poles were now elegantly covered in white and russet fabric entwined with fairy lights.
“Still worried about this place?” Jamie asked.
Claire shook her head. “No, it’s going to look magical.”
“I kent it would, jes’ needs the finishing touches in the morning.”
They stood quietly for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts. Claire stood on tip toes and kissed Jamie’s cheek, his bristles rough against her lips.
“What was that fer?”
“Oh, this… you… William… your family… everything.”
“Nae regrets? Even after all that’s happened this year?”
“Not a single one.”
Jamie stooped and returned the kiss.
“Thank ye, Sassenach. I love ye.”
Back outside, Claire turned towards the house. Jamie gently pulled her in the opposite direction.
“Oh, do you not want to get back to William?” Claire enquired.
“Och, William will be fine fer a wee while longer. He’ll be having a grand time wi’ Da and Murtagh. No, seeing as how ye are banishing me from yer bed tonight and I canna see ye ‘til the kirk, I jes’ wanted a few minutes alone wi’ ye.”
Jamie stopped in a corner of the garden. “Remember this place, Sassenach ? Nearly this time last year?”
“The Hallowe’en party. Of course, We escaped up here to watch the fireworks. You were Harry Potter.”
“Aye and ye were the sexiest witch I’d ever seen…that dress and those stockings... wi’ yer skin all pale and glowing in the moonlight. When I laid ye down on the blanket and ye opened herself tae me and I could hear yer moans and sighs, weel, I kent then that ye were mine fer always… and I was yers.”
Claire wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his head to hers. She kissed him gently before parting his lips with her tongue, lightly caressing his mouth. Jamie responded eagerly, tongues entwining, bodies pressed tightly together. He could feel Claire’s moans catch in her throat. He traced a path of kisses from her mouth to that sweet spot behind her ear…
“Jamie… Claire… are ye there? Da says d’ye fancy a wee nip afore dinner? And Murtagh says he canna face another dirty nappy, sae ye’re going tae have tae see tae yer son… right now.” Jenny called from the bottom of the path.
Jamie and Claire broke apart.
“We’d better go in then.”
“Christ, woman, what have ye done tae me?” Jamie panted. “Ye’ve got me all riled up… let me wait a moment until I’m… weel, er, more composed.”
Claire laughed. “Sorry. But can you believe that was only a year ago? So much has happened, so many changes… William, living together, now marriage.”
“But there’s one thing that hasna changed, Sassenach. And that’s how much I love ye. So, Mrs Soon-tae-be-Fraser, shall we join the family?”
“Yes, Jamie, I’d love to. Let’s join our family.”

“The road to our forever” - Chapter 9
Summary: John and Darcie are planning their wedding, but it comes with certain ups and downs.
John Wick x OFC Darcie
Word count: 2k
Warnings: none
Masterlist // Previous chapter // Next chapter
Tumblr media
At least Darcie had the human decency to leave John a note when she went out yesterday. He just took off, didn’t even bring his phone with him. He should’ve texted her at least where he was going, he bets she is worried sick about him.
John should’ve just told Darcie about his thoughts, but al he gave her were random bits and pieces of his past and now he regrets it. He feels so insanely guilty and when they were talking yesterday, he should’ve told her. All of it.
But no, he agreed on postponing this moment until after the wedding.
John hasn’t been here since the day he took off his wedding band. He stands in front of Helen’s tombstone in his wedding suit. It feels wrong to wear this, while visiting his first wife’s grave.
Though he knows he should go back to the venue, before anyone notices he is gone, he can’t seem to tear himself apart from the grave.
John used to come here a lot. He would talk to her, about all the things that went wrong, about who he had killed now and how. Helen never knew about his former life. The only thing he wanted was to make her happy and if she knew about that part of his life, he didn’t know whether or not she would stay with him.
With Darcie, he did better, not perfect, but better. Though he never planned on telling her this, he eventually did and he does believe that it made them a lot stronger. But he did her wrong, he knows that. John should’ve told her about his true feelings, he should’ve spilled it all.
John crouches down, so he can touch the cold stone with his hand. ‘Helen, honey,’ he whispers, ‘I screwed up. Fuck, I screwed up big time. I’m supposed to get married.’ He tells her about their fight yesterday and he wishes that she would say something to him. That he could hear her voice and that she tells him that it’s okay, because that’s what he needs to hear. It has been nearly seven years. He is allowed to move on, she specifically told him, but why is it so hard?
It’s Darcie he is going to marry. The love of his life. His second chance in life to get things all right now. She is the one that he wants to love forever and ever. She is going to be the mother of their kids, he knows that, he wants that.
‘I want to marry Darcie,’ he says, ‘I do, but what if I screw up? What if I already have? I mean, I walked away hours before the wedding, without telling her where I went. What kind of husband does that? God, I’m such a fucking idiot.’
‘No, you’re not.’
John freezes. He must’ve dreamed that, but when he looks over his shoulder, he realizes he is not dreaming.
Darcie is standing behind him. She’s beautiful. He has seen her twice now in her wedding dress, but right now, she looks like a bride with her make-up done with light pink touches and the headpiece in her hair.
John is such a moron for leaving the venue, for leaving her.
She walks up to him and places her hand on his shoulder. ‘You’re not a screw up, John,’ Darcie tells him, ‘nor are you a fucking idiot. Just… Next time you decide to take a quick trip somewhere before an important event, just bring your phone with you and maybe leave a note.’
John stands up. ‘I’m sorry.’ He clears his throat, to prevent himself from crying. ‘How did you even know I was here?’
‘At first I thought you were in Mill Neck,’ she tells him. ‘So Aurelio was going to take me there, but I realized we were going into the wrong direction. I figured you’d be with Helen.’
‘I never told you where she was buried.’
She shrugs.
John knows that Helen brought her here. He simply knows it deep down. And if that isn’t a sign that he should definitely marry her, that Helen would definitely approve this…
He so badly wants to touch Darcie right now, to simply hold her hand, but he can’t seem to do it. ‘Darcie, I didn’t mean to run away… I just…’ He looks at his shoes, unable to continue to talk.
‘I know,’ she tells him. ‘But at least you should’ve told someone where you were going. Not because I need to know where you are 24/7, but more because we are going to get married in a few hours and it takes two people for that. I’d prefer the other person being you, if I’m being honest.’
‘I’m sorry,’ he whispers, carefully looking up.
She shakes her head. ‘You go here often?’
‘Not anymore.’
‘But when you do, you talk to her?’
‘Most of the times, yeah,’ John admits, feeling a bit embarrassed, though he doesn’t know why. Out of all the people in the world, she is the one person who’d understand, he knows that.
John watches her crouching down in front of the tombstone. ‘Though I don’t know much about you, Helen,’ she says, ‘I do know that you made him happy. I can see it in the way his eyes start to sparkle when he does mention you. I believe that you took such good care of him and that you loved him with all your heart. I know for a fact that he took care of you when you were sick and that he loved you. John will always love you and I understand completely. I have seen pictures of the two of you and heard about a few things you did together and though I’ll never be you and never intend to be, I promise you that I’ll take good care of him.’ She places her hand on the tombstone. ‘And thank you for leading me to him. The rainbow truly helped.’
John looks up, only to see a bright rainbow. It hasn’t rained on this sunny day and he now knows for sure that it was Helen that lead his fiancée back to him.
He doesn’t want to cry, he promised himself he wouldn’t do that, but now he can’t help himself. Darcie stands up and wraps him up in a hug. ‘I’m not going to tell you, that you should’ve let me in,’ she whispers, as he pulls her body closer to his, ‘because it’s not my place to tell. What I am going to tell you is that if you don’t want to get married today, you don’t have to. We can postpone.’
John shakes his head. ‘No, that’s not what I want. What I want, is to marry you. I just… I just feel so stupid for not telling you all of this.’
‘Define this,’ she says.
‘My feelings. My doubts. My insecurities.’
Darcie grabs his wrist and looks at his watch. ‘We have around two hours before we get married,’ she says. ‘We have time.’
⟢⟡⟣
John doesn’t think he has ever spoken so much in one sitting, not even to Darcie. They drive back to their venue in his Mustang and even after they have parked the car in the lot, she keeps on listening to him. He told her about his work and how he fell in love with Helen. What he had to do to escape, to live his happily ever after. What happened with Iosev Tarasov after Helen passed. How Santino used his marker. How he was declared excommunicado.
He had managed to escape that entire world, so he could be with Helen, only to be part of that world after it all fell apart fight in front of him, when he was at his worst. Darcie knew quite a lot about this already, but not how he wanted to get out again after he met her.  He tells her about his final mission, what went wrong and how he got shot, but also that in the end, he got what he wanted.
A life with her.
But what she didn’t know was that ever since they got engaged, he was scared. He was this close of becoming a married man again, of making it more official and he thought he was going to lose her again. That she might realize someday that he is not the man she deserves. That one day she’d be taken away from him.
‘I hope you know that you deserve this second chance, John,’ she tells him, placing her hand on his, after he is done talking. ‘You are the kindest and bravest man I know. Of course I wished you told me all about this and your feelings before, so I could help you process it, but this is a lot. I understand you were too afraid to tell me this.’
He feels her soft squeeze in his hand, causing him to look up.
‘I still think that we need to be more open with one another and with we, I actually mean you.’
He nods. ‘I know and I agree.’
‘But all of this hasn’t changed anything about my feelings for you. I still love you, I still want to marry you and I still want to get to know you a lot more.’
‘You are unbelievable,’ he admits, followed by a laugh of disbelieve. ‘You still love me after all of this?’
‘Of course,’ she says without hesitating and he feels a bit better already. ‘And you know, right now we are going to get married, but when we leave for our honeymoon, we’re going to work on your openness, okay? Because I don’t want it to eat you up alive. Whenever there is something on your mind, whether it’s doubt, fear or love, I want to know about it.’
John nods. ‘I’ll work hard on this, I promise. And I also feel better already.’
She smiles. ‘Already working.’
He kisses her fingers. ‘I’m so insanely sorry, baby.’
‘Don’t be, just see this as a learning moment. We all need those from time to time. But we have less than five minutes before our wedding starts and according to Raye, we really need to hurry.’
John checks himself in the rearview mirror and when he thinks he looks okay, he gets out. Since Darcie knows him way too well, she stays seated and he walks around the car and opens the door for her. Together they rush to the gate and he sees that everyone who takes part of the wedding is already there, waiting for them.
‘Well, mister Mustang, you sure know how to make a wedding a little more adventurous.’
Before he can even feel the slightest bit guilty, Darcie tells Raye in a stern voice: ‘Don’t.’ She turns to her father and says: ‘Dad, listen, I know you were set on giving me away, but… I feel like I should walk with John. I’ll tell you all about it later, but you’ve gotta trust me on this one, okay?.’
For a second John thinks Christian is going to be mad at her or him, but he nods and gives her a kiss on her cheek. ‘I totally understand, munchkin. Jennie, you still want to walk alone down the aisle, or can I walk with you?’
‘Mister Angel, you can always walk with me,’ Jennie laughs. She looks at us, just to be sure. ‘You two are all okay?’
‘More than okay.’ John looks at Darcie and pulls her closer to his frame. ‘I’m sorry to all of you, for worrying everyone. It wasn’t my intention.’
‘We’ll talk about it later,’ Aurelio says. ‘First, the two of you need to get married.’

You Feel Like Home
I had to write a Danbrey wedding. Takes place in the Mama’s home universe, but could be read as a regular old human AU.  Ao3 link
Aubrey fidgets with the hem of her skirt, leg bouncing nervously as Jake drives Mama’s truck out to the small botanical gardens between Kepler and Greenbank that her and Dani’s wedding is set to be. She wonders if she’s under dressed. Dani’s wearing a whole dress, she’s going to look so pretty, what if Dani wants to get a divorce because she can’t even dress nice on her wedding day?
She’d thought her wedding outfit was cute, but maybe it’s not. She didn’t even go with a full suit! Just a black button up and tucked into a black tulle skirt. The most color on her is her tie, which is a nice fiery red, and the sequined cropped jacket that’s definitely way too hot right now, she’s burning alive--
“Aubrey. You’re going to be just fine.”
Aubrey’s head whips up, eyes finding the rear view mirror, and finds Mama looking up at her. Mama’s wearing a suit. Aubrey should’ve worn a suit.
“I-- I feel so stupid, Mama. What if I-- What if I don’t look good? I know it’s stupid to think about when I’m getting married, it’s not important in the long run, but what if--”
“Aubrey Little, are you really scared right now? I don’t think I’ve seen you scared in all the years I’ve known you, even in that first year I had you.”
Mama’s stern voice is enough to calm Aubrey down, or at least get her to stop word vomiting. She takes a deep breath, actually turns in her seat so she can face Mama. Jake makes a distressed noise, and she feels bad a moment because she knows how paranoid he gets while driving, but he doesn’t argue with her any.
“I just love her so much, Mama. I don’t want to mess anything up on the first day of the rest of our lives.” She says, and her voice cracks, and no she can’t start crying now, her makeup is already done--
The car pulls to a stop, and Aubrey lifts her head again, confused. They still have a couple miles to go. Jake places a hand on her shoulder, smiling softly.
“I think you need a bear hug right now. Get in the back, and I’ll start the car up again.”
“Thanks, Jake.” Aubrey kisses his cheek, leaving a bright red lipstick stain, and clambers in the back of the car without getting out. Mama doesn’t complain, only hugs her tight and tucks her hair back in place.
“Aubrey, you and Dani are the first I’ve ever been able to see get married. Y’know that?”
“Yeah?”
The car starts to move, and Aubrey takes a few deep breaths. They’ll be there in a couple of minutes.
“You’re the only ones who’ve even made it close. That’s how in love you are. I’ve seen my kids have flings and hookups, but no one -- and I mean no one, not even Barclay -- has stayed together long enough with someone. You and Dani are meant to be, and I mean that with every fiber of my being. Jake and Barclay and I, we all watched you two from the beginning. There ain’t no doubt in my mind that you’re gonna make it through the first day, the next day, and every other day after that.”
And just like that, Aubrey thinks she might cry again. She sniffles, hugging Mama closer and hiding her face against Mama’s shoulder. “You really mean that?”
“Of course I do. But this stress ain’t about you lookin’ good, is it?” Mama asks. Aubrey stiffens a bit, before shaking her head. “If you think it’s better for your daddy to walk you down the aisle instead of Ned, that’s fine. I’m sure it won’t cause Ned no hard feelin’s and if it’ll keep your dad from causin’ a fuss...”
“No, I want it to be Ned. Ned’s been more of a dad in the last few years than my dad has. I just...will you be there with me when I tell him, Mama?”
Mama smiles, rubbing her back soothingly. “Of course I will. Then I’ll go check up on Dani, and give her the same talk because I’m sure she’s panicking just as much as you. Mama’s gotta take care of her girls today.”
“Thanks, Mama.” Aubrey laughs a bit, smiling. She sits normally for the last minute of the car ride, and once the car is stopped she hops out and makes a beeline for Ned, who’s standing near the altar talking to the officiant. She knows Jake’ll help Mama out of the car, right now she just needs to talk to Ned.
-
“You’re going to be just fine, Dani,” Moira’s almost done curling Dani’s hair, so she can’t do much to comfort Dani but make eye contact through the mirror and use her free hand to pat her shoulder. “Aubrey’s been snapping me all day, and she’s so excited she won’t stop asking about you.”
“Yeah?”
“She looks gorgeous, too. Oh, you’re a lucky one.”
“Hey, that’s my wife,” Dani laughs, tilting her head back, and Moira laughs along as the pushes her head gently back in place. She sighs happily as they settle down. “I’m so lucky. How do you think she’s doing?”
“Probably equally as nervous. That’s how I know you guys are going to be the best gay wives.”
-
“Aubrey!”
Aubrey smiles as her father engulfs her in a hug, hugging back stiffly. “Dad, hi, how are--”
“I waved when you got out of the car, but you must not have seen it, you ran straight to Edmund over there.”
“Right. I must not’ve seen.” Aubrey says. Things are still awkward between them, and they don’t see each other often, so of course Aubrey would run to Ned. Right? It’s not weird.
Aubrey’s father smiles at her, pats her shoulder. “I’m so happy to get to see you get married, baby girl. After-- After everything, I thought you’d never let me back in your life, let alone invite me to your wedding...”
“We’re doing really great, dad. I wanted you here. Dani makes me really happy.”
“Good. Good!” Her father pulls her in for another hug, laughing a bit. When he pulls away he has tears in his eyes. “Gosh, you look beautiful Aubrey. I always thought you’d wear a tux. Your mother wanted you to wear a dress. I guess we both got what we wanted, huh?”
“Yeah, I, uh-- Neither of those felt right, but a little bit of both just...fit.”
“That meant to be a bi joke there, Little?”
Aubrey laughs as Duck’s hand finds the place behind her shoulder blades, the park ranger finding her side as Mama stands off to her other side. “Yeah, just a teeny one. Was it that obvious?”
Aubrey’s father looks a bit uncomfortable-- they never really talked much about Aubrey’s sexuality, let alone joked about it, and so it’s quite odd for him to hear it happen. He smiles nonetheless, offering out a hand to Duck. “I don’t think we’ve met yet. I’m Aubrey’s father.”
“Duck Newton, it’s a nickname,” Duck says, and Aubrey snorts. He’s sticking with that introduction, alright. “I was here Aubrey’s first night in Kepler, and I gotta say, she’s grown some even in the last few years. You must be very proud of her.”
“Oh, the proudest. I can’t believe I’m walking my baby down the aisle tonight.”
Aubrey sucks air through her teeth, cringing, and her father looks at her confused.
“Aubrey?..What-- What was that?..”
Aubrey looks at Duck for help. He squeezes her shoulder. She takes a deep breath. Duck’s right there. Mama’s right there. Jake’s nearby. Dani’s nearby. She can do this. Like a-- Like a bandaid.
“Dad, you’re...not walking me down the aisle. Ned is.”
“I’m sorry, wha-- Who’s doing what?”
“...Ned is wa--”
“I heard that. I just-- You-- Aubrey, I am your father!” Her father says sternly, and Aubrey flinches. Almost immediately Mama wraps a protective arm around Aubrey’s shoulder and Aubrey leans into her thankfully, tearing up a bit. Fuck, this is so stupid. Maybe she shouldn’t have invited him. “I am your father, Aubrey, and fathers walk their daughters down the aisle--”
“Now Mr. Little, you ain’t gotta cause a scene.”
“I quite think I do, Miss Cobb. My own daughter has decided that I’m not enough for her!”
“That-- That’s not it at all, dad! I just-- Ned-- he--”
“After everything I’ve done to get you back, Aubrey--”
“That’s enough,” Duck’s deep drawl calls out over the shouting, and silences them all. Jake had come running up, and now leans against his legs panting. He reaches a hand out and Aubrey takes it, squeezing as she tries to figure out the right words to make him not so angry. Luckily, Duck and Mama have their own words ready apparently. “Mama? Got anythin’ to say to Mr. Little here, or should I?”
“Oh, boy do I.” Mama hands off her cane to Jake and steps up to Aubrey’s father and for a moment Aubrey thinks she might punch him. “Mr. Little, I highly advise you don’t use any guilt trippin’ on my kids, and yes she’s my kid. You ain’t earned that right back yet. You say you fought to get her back in your life, well you’re fixin’ to lose her again you keep talkin’ like that. I’ve got four ‘r five big fellows around this venue who’d just love to throw you out, myself included, but Aubrey wanted you here. So be grateful you even got the invite.”
Aubrey and her father both look at Mama in shock, though for two completely different reasons-- Aubrey’s father because no one’s ever spoken to him like that before, and Aubrey because Mama defended her so vehemently. Sure, Mama loves her like her own kid and has said it enough times, but hearing is different than witnessing.
“Aubrey Little is one of the best people out there, and you’ve caused her a helluva lot of pain. I’d suggest apologizing to her and sittin’ pretty until the reception.”
Mama returns to Aubrey’s side as Aubrey’s father processes her threat. He clears his throat and swallows thickly.
“I...I’m sorry, Aubrey. It’s your decision, and I’m sure you have your reasons. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go...find my seat.”
-
“Knock knock,”
“Aubrey Little, don’t you dare, it’s bad luck!”
“Well I’m sure glad I still sound young to you gals,” Mama teases as she peeks into the storm shelter Dani and Moira have set up shop in. She has a warm smile on her face as she steps all the way in, and she looks like she may cry again. “My, don’t you two look gorgeous. You especially, Dani.”
“Thanks, Mama.”
“Y’know, it seems like just yesterday I was lettin’ this scared little eighteen year old into my home, and now here she is at twenty-three and getting married.”
The look on Mama’s face alone has Dani tearing up, and she fans at her eyes so her mascara doesn’t start to run. “Mama, don’t go making me cry like that! I’m already on an emotional roller coaster right now! How’s Aubrey doing?”
“She’s just fine. A bit shaken up after tellin’ her father he ain’t walkin’ her down the aisle, but she’s just fine. With Jake and Duck and Ned right now.”
“I wish I could’ve been there for her when she did that, I know she’s been worried about it...” Dani sighs. “But she’s alright now?”
“She’s gettin’ taken care of, don’t you worry.” Mama says, moving to sit down, and only then does Dani realize something.
“Mama, where’s your cane? You know the doctor says you need to use it,”
“Must’ve left it with Jake after chattin’ with Mr. Little. I’ll get it in a minute.”
Dani turns to Moira, and she nods, kissing Dani and Mama on the cheek before disappearing to go grab Mama’s cane. That leaves them alone.
“Is Aubrey really alright? If her dad made her cry, I swear I’ll go out there in my dress and--”
“Dani, she’s just fine, sunshine. I promise.” Mama says exasperatedly, reaching over and grabbing Dani’s hand. She has the most fond look on her face, and Dani can’t help but smile. “How you doin’? Really?”
“I’m good. Nervous. But that’s normal for your wedding day, right?”
“Well, I don’t know from experience, but I think so,” Mama laughs.
“I’m so happy, Mama. I love Aubrey so much.”
Mama squeezes Dani’s hand with a soft smile. “Trust me, the feeling’s mutual. You two are one of the most well-rounded couple I’ve seen in a while, and it’s clear you’re crazy about each other. You’re gonna go far, and if you ever feel like you don’t like livin’ in your own place, Mama’s always got room for her favorite girls.”
Dani laughs brightly, tossing her head back. “I think we wanna live on our own for at least the first year, but we’re both gonna miss you guys.”
“Well I’m expectin’ you two to come over for dinner at least once a month. It’s gettin’ lonely with Jake spendin’ more time at Hollis and Keith’s.”
Dani hums and nods. “Definitely. No need to worry about that, Mama.”
Moira comes back in with Mama’s cane and Mama stands, taking it.
“I’ll be back in a little while to walk you down the aisle, kiddo. You look gorgeous, you’re gonna do great. Now, I’m off to check on Barclay and make sure he gets here on time.”
Dani stands, follows Mama to the door. “Thank you, Mama. It means a lot that you’re here.”
Mama smiles. He puts a hand on Dani’s shoulder, squeezing.
“You’re gonna do great, kid.”
-
Oh god. Oh god, oh god. Aubrey’s heart is beating so fast. Dani looks so fucking beautiful. Oh god.
One of Moira’s compositions plays from a speaker, and Aubrey bounces nervously at the altar, Jake on her side and Moira on the side Dani’ll be standing on; Ned, from his seat, gives her a quick thumbs up, but she doesn’t see it, she can’t take her eyes off of Dani.
It looks as if they both decided on nontraditional outfits, because Dani’s dress is a light blush pink and reaches just below her knees, sweetheart neckline, a tasteful amount of sparkle. Her hair is down, long blonde hair pinned away from her face by some sparkly pins that Aubrey is for sure stealing after this, her makeup is impeccable.
It feels like Dani will never reach her-- Aubrey almost runs down the aisle to meet her in the middle, but she does’t, she sits patiently until Dani is in front of her, Mama giving them both a kiss on the cheek before she finds her seat in the front row next to Ned. Aubrey tears up a bit, and she eagerly takes Dani’s hand.
“You look beautiful,” She whispers, and Dani giggles.
“You too, babe. Love the jacket.”
Aubrey grins as the officiant clears his throat and begins the ceremony.
It’s officially the start of the beginning of the rest of their lives.

“Hi, Ethan?” He sneered at me. “It’s been four long years and all I get is a Hi Ethan?”
I rolled my eyes in response as I stepped closer to him with my arms opened wide, “I forgot how dramatic you were.”
It was his turn now to roll his eyes as he pulled me into his embrace. It felt odd at first, but I slowly eased into the hug as a sense of warmth and familiarity filled me from within. I hadn’t realized how much I needed someone to hold me until now.
“How have you been?” he whispered into my hair.
“I’ve been… okay,” I replied as I pulled away.
We locked eyes for a moment; I watched as he searched my eyes, trying to figure out whether I was being sincere or not. If I were to be honest, I have been okay these last four years but seeing Grayson again and witnessing him get engaged broke a part of my mended heart once again.
“What are you even doing here Y/N?” he asked as he tilted his head to the side.
“I should be asking you that! This is my hometown, not yours. But that’s a story for another day,” I replied, giving him a small smile. “You should get back inside, they’re probably waiting for you.”
Ethan shrugged at my response and held out his hand, “I doubt it. Plus, I’m over this party already, come with me?”
I raised my eyebrow at him as I looked back and forth between his hand and his face, “Say what now?”
“Come on Y/N/N,” Ethan said exaggeratedly. “Let’s go somewhere.”
“Go where exactly?”
“Anywhere,” he replied with a soft smile. “Let’s go make up for some lost time.”
I looked back down to his extended hand for a moment and clasped my own around his, “Okay… lead the way E.”
—————————————————————
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON’T LIKE PANCAKES ANYMORE?” My eyes widened and I looked around the diner as Ethan went on with his rant.
I turned back to him and crossed my arms over my chest, “Are you done?”
He shook his head profusely, the shock and hurt evident on his face, “Not even close.”
I rolled my eyes in response, “I just prefer waffles now. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“There’s everything wrong with that!”
“The waitress is going to come and be weirded out if you don’t stop”
He shrugged and slumped further down into his seat, “You never answered my question you know.”
“Which one?” I answered as the waitress set our food and drinks down. We both thanked her before she walked away.
“What are you doing here? Why were you even at that party?”
I looked out the window beside us and nervously played with my fingers, “I live here now.” I sighed before continuing, “I work for an Event Planning and PR company. My boss was in charge of planning that event, but she couldn’t make it tonight so she asked me to go in her place and make sure everything went smoothly.”
He nodded, signaling me to continue.
“I now realize that our clients were Amber’s parents. They hired us to plan their daughter’s surprise birthday party but I didn’t know… I never thought…”
I felt Ethan put his hand over my own and give it a light squeeze. Looking back at him, I gave him a half-smile. “It doesn’t matter though. I’m fine.”
“Of course it matters Y/N, you’re allowed to not be okay,” He replied softly.  “Especially if you still love hi-"
“I don’t,” I cut him off. “It’s been four long years. I’ve moved on and so has he. We both have different lives now.”
He looked down at his cup for a moment and took a deep breath before meeting my gaze once again, “And are you happy?”
To say his question took me by surprise was an understatement, and what worried me most was my inability to answer him. Was I not happy? I was over what happened in the past, I have a new life now. So why does it feel like I’m trying to convince myself instead of him?
“Of course I am E, I love the life I’m living now. Plus, I’m around my family again. Things couldn’t possibly be better.”
He narrowed his eyes at me and I could tell he didn’t believe me one bit, but he chose not to push it further. Instead, he gave me a sly smirk before cutting off a large piece of my waffle and eating it.
I instantly stood up and smacked him in the head before taking a large gulp of his milkshake. We both looked at one another and raised our hands in defeat before laughing.
The remainder of the time was spent messing with one another and filling each other in on what else we had missed out on. I had to admit, I had missed having Ethan in my life. We had always been close but the last few days I had spent with him before leaving, we had gotten even closer. He was my best friend. It hurt to walk away and cut off all contact with him as well.
After paying for our meals, we made our way out of the diner and walked in silence. It wasn’t an awkward type of silence though but a comfortable one.
“Are we going to go back to not talking to each other after this?” Ethan asked, a frown forming on his face.
“I’m not sure,” I replied as I kept walking. “As long as you don’t eat my waffles if we see each other again, I think we can keep in contact.”
He looked down to me and nudged my shoulder playfully, “I can’t make any promises.”
I stuck out my tongue at him and walked to the passenger side of his car before getting in. The whole drive back to the venue was spent making small talk and joking around with one another. I was sad this bittersweet night was coming to an end. It felt good to have someone from my past in my life once again, even if it was for a little bit.
Once Ethan parked, he looked over to me and gave me a soft smile, “Talk to you soon?”
I gathered my things and opened the door before glancing back to him, “Yeah. Talk to you soon.”
—————————————————————
Once I got to work the next morning, the first thing I saw as the elevator doors opened was Mia’s assistant Emily looking rather anxious.
“Hey Ems, you okay?” I asked as I walked with her to my office.
“Yes! It’s just Mia has been calling you for the past half an hour but you weren’t answering,” she explained
I gave her a look of confusion and looked at the clock on the wall as I set my stuff down on my desk, “Sorry, I must have had my phone on silent but why is she worrying so much? I’m early today.”
Emily waved off my reply and shook her head, “No, no, that’s not why she was calling. You guys got a last minute client, they’re in the meeting room right now.”
“Oh crap,” I said as I quickly gathered my things. “I gotta go. Thank you, Emily, I owe you one!”
I quickly ran out of my office and made my way to the conference. I could hear Mia discussing details of the event from a distance and composed myself before entering.
“Good Morning! Sorry for keeping you all waiting,” I quickly stopped in my tracks as my eyes met those of a familiar hazel-eyed man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Y/N, this is Mr. and Mrs. Holloway. I believe you guys met yesterday at their daughter’s birthday event.” Mia said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Y-yeah, nice to see you both again” I replied shakily as I slowly made my way to the seat next to Mia.
“And of course, this is their daughter Amber, and her fiancée Grayson” Mia added. “They actually got engaged last night at the party, were you there to see it?”
“Mhm,” I said, looking down at my hands. “Congratulations to you both.”
“Mom, I think we should start heading out. Look at our other options first,” I heard Amber say with a hint of nervousness in her voice.
“That’s nonsense honey” Mrs. Holloway replied.
“But Mom-“
“Sweetie, trust me on this.” Mrs. Holloway insisted. “Look, the reason we are here is because we were so impressed with how the event turned out last night that we want you and Y/N to plan our daughter’s wedding!”
My head snapped up as she finished her request and the first thing I did was look at him. I felt my body slowly begin to shut down as I processed everything. I thought back to the proposal from the night before, my goodbye to him four years ago, but most importantly; I thought about how happy we had been once upon a time before our relationship came to an end. And as I pictured myself planning his wedding to her, it felt as if my heart was slowly becoming undone once again. The wounds that had healed with time were slowly coming back, the pain increasing tenfold.
“You okay Y/N?” I looked over to Mia and saw her looking concerned, “You’re looking a little pale there.”
I nodded and forced a smile, “Yeah. Yes, sorry. Don’t mind me. I’m just a little out of it.”
“Well we don’t want to take up too much of your time,” Mrs. Holloway said. “I would really like it if both you and Mia helped us make this a wedding to remember! What do you say, honey, are you in?”
I don’t know what took over me in that very moment. Maybe it was me thinking with my head instead of my heart. Maybe it was the fact that I felt I had something to prove. Or maybe, just maybe, this is the end that’s been long overdue for this chapter of our lives to finally come to a close.
In the end, whatever it was, it drove me to say, “Yes, I’m in.”
Hope you enjoyed reading part four. Let me know what you think so far. And I promise I’ll try my best to have part five up soon! Love you guys!

Survey #208
"if you want to soar with vultures, you'll have to swallow crow."
What may we call you? Brittany/Britt or Ozz/Ozzy. When can we send you a birthday card? (Figuratively, of course.): February 5th. And, where are you calling from? (Again, figuratively.): Please free me of the sweltering grip of North Carolina. What is your favorite Hostess/Little Debbie snack? BIIIIIIHHHHH that's too hard. I love that shit. Update Good morning from the double decker high speed train 🚂. TGV. Currently lounging in the lower deck. Ample leg room and lap tray to die for. The weather is light rain and grey.
Yesterday. The metro was a sure fire winner. For less than 10 euros (for the entire visit) we navigated our way around the city. Starting early, the mission for the morning was to breakfast with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Having purchased a hot chocolate and escargot chocolate pastry from the patisserie around the corner, our breath was taken away by the beauty and imposing structure that is the Eiffel Tower. Wow! What a view. Quite stunning. Although peaceful and tranquil we were in the company of at least 6 brides (and wedding photographers) as this seems to be the go to spot for wedding photos (Trocadéro). It did make a wonderful backdrop. We were also in the company of at least 10 tat street sellers anyone for 5 souvenir Eiffel key rings for a Euro..... hell yes! Quality like that was hard to find.
After our own photography session, we took in the view walking around the tower through the park, aiming for the Arc de Triomphe. So many beautiful apartment blocks with much balcony envy. The river Seine much like the river Thames adding to the setting. We were Never more than 10 foot away from a souvenir shop and 8 foot from a coach party!
The traffic system is a complete mystery. I mean how do you know where to drive when there are no road markings? At one stage I swear there were at least 6 ish lanes?!?!? And not one white line amongst them. Good luck to anyone who drives in Paris!
The Arc de Triomphe and The champs elysees was a very busy junction. You did indeed “take on the crossing” at your own risk. The Arc de Triomphe was indeed bigger than I had imagined. Many beeps and toots from queuing anxious (scared) cars always help create atmosphere to the morning.
Back via the metro to the Zenith.
Showtime
Having been to the Zenith before we were aware of the many lines and gates to queue from. Queue roulette lives on. As the afternoon kicked in the sun had come out and a spot of queue bathing could be undertaken. Lunch was courtesy of McDonalds.... don’t judge me too much!
A stroll around La Villette and a little geocaching and it’s time for doors. The queue to get in appeared to go right down into the park from what I could see on social media. Blimey.
Zenith is a smaller venue, I thank google for these facts, 6232 Seats and 2800 standing.
This meant no good ship Delta but a front end stage. As doors were 7pm we only had 45 mins to wait for GOY. Dave, as I now like to call him, was sporting his linen suit look tonight. Giving it all the moves and stage presence that we now love. One night I will capture that leap... but not this night! They just get better and better. So much energy right from the start. A real power house.
Having entered into the spirit of #deltatourrecycling we await with baited breath for ...... no news 🤣 it was to be expected. Our carbon footprint 👣 is a struggle.
21.15 and the lights go down for the chaps. The Paris crowd seem up for a dance and a good time. Guiding light kicks in and there is a good vibe in the room. I’m soon burning off that McDonalds - LLM, Straight into The Cave. That must count as 1000 steps! The paps clearly didn’t get the memo about where to stand, and get ushered back behind the white lines so not to block our view.
Marcus uses some GCSE French during the evening and at one stage the spot light goes onto Winston to introduce the next song in French, he is beckoned to do so by Marcus..... a fine job.
I should note that Ben has opted for the more causal stage attire of jeans, t shirt and base ball cap and he is of course on the traditional LOVETT keyboard.
Being old skool set up gives the viewing opportunity to joy more of Chris Maas on the drums, and let’s not forget Nick and Dave.
After the Ditmas run, Marcus made sure he went back along the front row to take a French flag 🇫🇷 and displayed it on the mike stand. #flagsforthelads lives on.
During the wait for the encore the crowd chant harrrrr hharrrrr harrrrrr harrrr and warmly welcome the chaps back.
The B stage is front centre of stage, the mic stand is placed on the stage, but Marcus moves it to the Platform with a “will I get told off” look on his face... but does it anyway.
WOW so close.. Such crowd respect ✊ for Cold Arms.... quite a moment. And after some discussion Between Ben and Winston we get White Blank Page into Forever 🥰.
Somewhere in this section is where Marcus announces Liverpool are 3 nil up..... and if we could all take a 20 mins break that would be great........ gesturing to exit the stage...... but coming back with “but that would be very unprofessional... “. then gestures to leave again. 🤣.
Blood. Chooooooooon. Just epic.
It felt like a really happy show with everyone going home with more bounce in their step than when the evening started.
We managed to catch Moana for a short chat hello and catch up. Always lovely to see you.
The walk back to the hotel was full of surprises. Today’s fake merch was mostly posters. The park swarmed with sellers varying from €1 to €2 euros each. Duly purchased. Then as we continue our walk. We stumble right over a discarded pile of posters! In the ‘love the park, leave no trace’ ethos, and of course: #deltatourrecycling ...the said 24 posters are now making their way to Luxembourg 🇱🇺
Paris was indeed Tres Bien. Merci beaucoup.

Race Wrap Up – Fat Ox 24hrs
It has been a while since one of these went out, February was the last race, 10 months ago.  I missed the experience, yes, even the ugliness of these events and there was some ugliness 😊 and I know Robin, my crew for this one, won’t debate that (more later).  To be honest, some of the process, training that is, wasn’t pretty leading up to this either.  It was pretty boring and not exciting.  Robin mentioned grit in a post yesterday about this and it how the last 10 months have been, gritty.  Just monotonous, boring, keep moving forward – patient progress.  In February I made a significant and exciting career shift then in March I tore up my knee.  Both experiences “created an opportunity” for me to work on that patient progress.  I used quotes because of sarcasm, and this is part of the, not so pretty times 😊.  Working through the injury and hitting reset, to a degree, on my professional journey was going to take time and, as we like to say with this blog, relentless forward progress……. much like the race.
The road, as mentioned was boring with lots of loops around our local park near the house; many miles in circles on crushed gravel and grass with some pavement and treadmill sprinkled in.  The running started back up in May and we were at mile 1, literally started walking 1-2 miles a day with Robin and the pupper then after a week started jogging.  As the weeks ticked by, the miles increased – still flat, non-technical terrain running in circles (foreshadowing 😊).  Getting into August, the miles were increasing, and things were progressing nicely, so we decided maybe it was time to sign up for a race.  Labor Day came and the volume was where I felt comfortable registering for the Fat Ox – a 24hr timed event on a crushed gravel path that outlines Nardini Manor in Buckeye, AZ.  There is some history to the place and today it is mostly used for weddings and special events.  Big Thanks to Aravaipa Running for finding this place.  Aravaipa hosts three different races here throughout the year and as always, do a fantastic job.  Much thanks and gratitude to the Aravaipa staff (Jubilee Paige – grateful for the contagious smiles 😊), crew, volunteers, and support teams – outstanding event, awesome venue, and top-notch food (thank you so much Pati Coury for the awesome food & encouraging words – seriously though, you need to sell that chicken salad!!).  They, the other participants, the support crews, spectators, and so many folks that came out were outstanding. There are many reasons why I continue to do these events and the community that I am fortunate to be a part of is a big one of them. Although I did have the opportunity to volunteer at a couple of races since the injury, and that is also an amazing experiencing, there is something about being on the other side.
And now for the actual event – 500 meters in circles for as long as you can go!  Considering what has been outlined above – we didn’t have expectations going in.  An ideal day would be to go the distance and complete all 24 hrs.  Why? Might as well get our moneys worth right? Seriously, we just didn’t know how things would play out and you really never do with an ultra.  The main thought was how the knee would hold up for that amount of time no matter how fast I may be going.  How many miles would I be able to tick off, how would the pace be, how would my feet be……these were few of the many factors we had on our minds since it was going to be the longest, I had been on my feet since last July!  We just didn’t know.  So, the plan was to keep moving forward!
Fortunately it was an 8am start and the venue was about 45 minutes from the house, so it wasn’t a terribly early day.  I arrived at Nardini Manor around 630am, set up our spot (right on the path near the start/finish line – very ideal for my crew 😊) and just soaked up the sunrise.  The idea was to run 7 loops and then walk 1 for as long as I can and then change it up as needed.  We had thought that Robin and the girls would come by around 2pm or so and I would just keep things moving until they showed up and evaluate progress then.  The first 20 miles were smooth and steady and around mile 22 I hit up our little set up and did a foot check/sock change and was off to the plan.  Robin and the girls got there around mile 30 and at this point I had cut the loops to 5/1; still moving solid, nothing out of the ordinary for 30+ miles, I was hydrating well and eating enough every hour or so – things were working!  Isabella and Alaina left at mile 40 as I did another foot/sock change.  Robin was going to be staying with me through the night (talk about a trooper).  When the girls left, I was off again and kept the same plan in place.  At this point, things were starting to tighten up around my knees, but it was mostly muscle and joints, fortunately no issues with the injury.  We were in good shape. As I hit mile 50, quicker than what we anticipated (and probably not the best idea considering I had another 13+ hours left) I started to feel some hotspots on my feet.  I didn’t want to change out socks just yet, so I kept moving forward.  At this time, my stomach started to rebel a bit.  Makes sense now considering this is the furthest, and fastest I had gone in a long time, and I was sensing things had the ability to come unraveled if I didn’t reassess.
Around mile 60, I think, I got to Robin, and we did a foot check.  The right big toe had a very nice (Robin would argue) blister.  Both balls of the feet and heels had small ones surfacing as well so we doctored them up, taped them, and I was on the move again.  As I continued to do the loops, passing the aid station, I was grazing on things to settle my stomach – salt, potatoes, broth, ginger, Coke and after a pit stop 😊, I was feeling much better. The next 5 or so miles were smooth, I was running 3/1 loops and listening to music.  At this point, Robin was sleeping in the back of the truck – we made a makeshift bed for her knowing she would be there all night.  I’ll stop for a second to say thank you to Isabella and Alaina.  The came all the way out for a couple of hours to see their dad run past the truck many times and stop once or twice.  Although it was a short time, seeing there faces on each loop gave me a burst of energy each time.  Robin – what can I say about here; she is what keeps me going.  She is so funny and cute; she had said she wasn’t sleeping the entire time the car was closed up, but she didn’t want to come outside to check on me.  She felt that seeing her may give me an excuse to stop and she didn’t want to put that on me.  We’ve been through a lot together, these races included – all have made us, together, stronger!!  Like these races, it hasn’t always been pretty – but for damn sure it has been gritty! So thank you to my three girls and a big extra thank you to Robin.  It goes much farther than the actual event; the sacrifice she puts in; it is the whole training time and then the follow up because after the race, for a few days, I can be useless, and she picks up the slack and gets shit done!  She is the reason I am here!!!
Back to the loops – at this time, just before hitting mile 70, is when the moments began getting dark.  I was reduced to fast walk and at sometimes a zombie like trance circling this manor, at night, with roosters crowing and other zombies walking around, and some crashed out as well.  The body was as it should be, sore, things hurt, my feet throbbed from the blisters.  I did one more patch and doctored them again but as we got close to 3am I figured they were as good as they were going to get.  It was time to just press on, grind through it, and keep moving. The stomach started to go sideways a bit and I was shuffling, but still moving.  Yep – it had gotten to the point where it wasn’t ideal 😊.  Each time I passed by Robin, laying in the car, I just wanted to open the back and climb into the sleeping bag with her.  It was so easy to do – just pop the back and slide in….it was warm, she was there, and she would make all the bad things go away 😊😊😊!!!  Then other thoughts entered my head – Bryan Shane saying LFRF, “if you think you are going to slow, slow down!” I had the smile of an old friend in my mind who we just lost and moments of a heavy heart, thinking and praying for his family.  I had awareness though.  I was continuing to move, I was continuing to thank and smile at the aid station volunteers as I went by, and an occasional conversation with the fellow participants as we checked in on each other – all continuing to move forward.  It wasn’t pretty, hell, as you can see from the picture Robin posted yesterday, I was ugly 😊, but damn, we kept going.
We had kept switching directions every 3 hours and we were coming to our last time at 5am.  I was listening to some music on my phone for the last few hours and felt a vibration.  It was Bryan Shane checking in and welcoming me to a new day.  On the east coast, the sun was coming up and he was making me aware that it would soon follow in AZ.  Never stop before the sunrise.  We were hitting the high 70’s now, and I can feel new energy with the new day upon us. Blueberry Pancakes were being cooked up and I knew in a couple of hours Robin will be up.  We were not in the last few hours of the event, and I could see the darkness leaving and it starting to get a bit brighter each lap that was completed.  It was around 630am, I think maybe, I clicked off mile 80.  A few more laps, after downing several pancakes, I saw that back of the truck open as I rounded the corner.  Robin was up and I couldn’t wait to see her.  She had a great night sleep she said but was feeling guilty because, well, she had a great night sleep 😊.  She told me about not wanting to come out and was so happy that I just kept going.  We had less than an hour left and at around 82 miles now, I was content.  I sat for a minute and then we decided to start doing some loops together.  We talked, I shared gratitude, I shared a tear or two and we continued to keep moving.  We got to the finish and there was about 5 minutes left and we just said, or maybe I just said, “F-it, let’s just run this last one.” We did, we ran the last loop, she peeled off to shoot the video, and I finished up just around 84 miles.
It wasn’t ideal.  It wasn’t pretty.  Things got ugly.  I laughed, got emotional a bit, met several incredibly amazing people.  I heard some inspirational stories and made some new friends.  I ate some awesome food and got to run a few loops with my wife.  We didn’t know how this was going to play out, but we figured we’d give it a go.  We knew if the knee went sideways, it was an easy bailout.  So grateful it held together; better than held together, it was strong.  We kept moving and went the distance.  It gives us much faith and excitement for 2022 and hopefully getting back into more adventures and experiences.  Couldn’t have picked a better recovery week though – Thanksgiving Week!  It is going to be great spending time, with my three girls and seeing AZ friends throughout the holiday weekend.  Much love and gratitude to everyone out there, have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.  Looking forward to getting another one of these out in February – stay tuned 😊!!

Surprise Wedding ~ @EddieCole_ @WyattLDonovan @MandiCole_
Fi: Everything was going smoothly so far. Eddie and I dropped off the dresses and suits at the venue yesterday. He was also able to drop off the cake and some of the food since there was a full kitchen available. Such a time saver. Mandi loved the idea of a spa day, especially since she wasn’t pregnant this time around. She was still getting her makeup done so I was able to sneak out to the ladies’ room and text Eddie about pretend car trouble. He was with Wyatt and Willow. A few minutes later I got a text from him about meeting them for a late lunch. Just like we planned. I returned to the salon to wait for Mandi. If I could just stop from smiling so much this might work. ——————- Eddie: When my phone beeped, I made sure to keep the smile from crossing my face. I told Wyatt that the girls were okay, but that the car wouldn’t start. He asked if Mandi was freaking out and I chuckled, “No, but her phone went dead so Fi sent me a message letting me know. They want to know if we can get the car running or pick them up.” He nodded and went to gather up Willow’s diaper bag and everything. I quickly sent a message back to Fi about lunch and scooped Willow up, waiting for Wyatt to get ready. ____________ Wyatt: I was a little worried that Mandi might be upset, but at least Fi was with her. I just hoped the car trouble was nothing too serious. Once I had Willow’s things in the diaper bag, I returned to Eddie. He was making funny faces at Willow making her laugh. I watched them for a few minutes, thinking about how far we’d come since we first met. “Hey, I’ve got everything. Just let me get Willow’s animal crackers.” He nodded and reached for the diaper bag with his free hand. “I’ll take Willow to the car, ok?” I smiled at my little girl. “Great. Thanks.” ———————- Mandi: I walked back over to join Fi, smiling. “I’m so glad that I agreed to this.” I laughed as I sat down, “I feel like a princess getting my hair, makeup, and nails done. It’s awesome.” I took my phone out to take a few pictures to send to Wyatt later, “Think Wyatt will like it as much as I do?” I normally didn’t feel like taking selfies, but I felt beautiful today, and I wanted to have a picture to remember the feeling.
____________ Fi: “I think you look stunning. He’d be crazy not to love it,” I smiled. She really did look beautiful. I had given the salon a heads up when I made the appointment. They knew to give Mandi the bridal treatment without calling it that. “Oh,  got a text from Eddie. The guys thought we could meet for a late lunch. They wanted to show us off since we had our hair and makeup done. See?” I laughed and showed her the text. “I think it sounds like fun. Shall we?” ———————— Eddie: I had already installed the spare car seat we kept for Willow in my truck before coming over. I clicked her into her seat and played peek-a-boo until Wyatt walked out. “We’re taking your truck?” I nodded, “Hope that’s okay. I figured since I had all my tools loaded up in the truck, it would be easier.” He shrugged and climbed in. Whew, that was close. I climbed behind the wheel and buckled, “Are we ready to go?” Wyatt nodded, and Willow added her opinion. I chuckled and took off. ———————- Wyatt: I wasn’t expecting to go in Eddie’s truck, but he already had Willow in her car seat. I got in and looked back at Willow. She definitely loved her uncle. That made Mandi happy. Me too if I was honest. We had been driving for a few minutes, but it didn’t seem like we were heading towards the area I thought the salon was in. “Eddie, are you sure we’re going the right way?” ______________ Mandi: I grinned and nodded, “I think we shall. Did they say where they wanted to meet?” I wasn’t sure I was hungry, but the chance to extend this fun day and have Wyatt, Willow, and Eddie join Fi and me, I didn’t want to pass it up. I looked over at Fi and grinned, “At least this time we didn’t have to worry about me going into labor.” ______________ Fi: We headed to the car and got in. “I’m not sure. Eddie mentioned it was someplace new he wanted to try. I think he’s looking for new ideas for Skye Bleu Deux.” I took a deep breath as I pulled out of the parking lot and hoped I sounded convincing. “Must be someplace good if he wants you, Wyatt and Willow, to come along, right?” I laughed and gestured to the radio. “Feel free to find some music.” ———————— Eddie: I turned the music lower and smiled over at Wyatt. “Yeah, we should be there in just a few moments.” I glanced in the mirror at Willow and grinned, “She’s growing so fast. Hard to believe she is going to be two soon.” I was hoping talking about Willow would distract Wyatt, not that I minded talking about my niece. She was a pretty cool girl, not that I was biased or anything. -------------------- Wyatt: “Tell me about it,” I grinned. Willow might have been a surprise, but she was the best thing that ever happened to me. Except for Mandi of course. “I swear she’s a mini-teenager some days. Mandi swears she was never like that, but I have a feeling she was.” I laughed and waggled my fingers at my little girl in the back. I was still curious about where we were going, but I figured Eddie knew better than I did. Maybe the girls went to a different salon? --------------------- Mandi: I laughed a little, “I guess so. How does Eddie like working at Skye Bleu Deux? I bet he misses being at Skye Bleu with you and everyone else.” I settled into my seat and smiled, “I know that he really liked working there with everyone.” I was thankful for Skye Bleu, not only did it bring Fi and Eddie together, it also gave me a great friend, and hopefully, if Eddie played his cards right, a sister. ---------------------- Fi: “Eddie enjoys having more responsibilities, and he’s adjusting to supervising other people. Luckily he has a good team. I miss him, but I think it makes our time alone together more….important? Or maybe meaningful? Does that make sense?” I laughed a little. We were pulling up to the venue. “Hmmm...this is the address. Kind of a cool building. I don't see any signs though. Let’s go inside and check to see if they're here.” We got out and walked over to the building. I knew Eddie wasn't there yet. We couldn't have the groom seeing the bride. ________________ Eddie: I couldn’t help but chuckle, “Mandi was...well really she wasn’t that bad. Not with our parents. Me on the other hand? She loved playing tricks on me, though to be fair I did start it. But that was by accident. I was trying to prank a friend of mine that was supposed to be coming to hang out, but he couldn’t make it. He had called to say so and Mandi came upstairs to tell me he had to cancel. I didn’t know. She walked into my room and got a face full of silly string.” I laughed as I remembered her face. “She didn’t tattle, just simply glared at me and told me that the war was on. It went from there.” _______________ Wyatt: I couldn’t help but laugh as I imagined Mandi’s face when she was showered with silly string. “Duly noted. Keep silly string away from Mandi and you. And always knock first,” I said with a grin. Very important in a house full of women. Right?” Eddie nodded as he drove. “I wish I had gotten to know your parents, Eddie. And that they could have met Willow.” Eddie nodded as he parked. I looked around but didn’t see any salon. “Eddie, where are we?” -------------------------- Mandi: I smiled as we walked up to the building, “Eddie has always been one to take on a lot of responsibilities. I think that was the main issue between me and him when we were growing up. He was always trying to take care of everyone, Mom, Dad, me.” I sighed, “I haven’t always been easy on him, but in my defense, I always felt like he was trying to smother me. Even though I know he did mean well. In his own way.” I smiled as we stopped in front of the building, “But I’m glad that we got past that. I know a lot of that was because of you. Thank you.” I looked up at the building, “Are you sure this is the right place? It doesn’t look like they’re open?”
Tumblr media
------------------------- Fi: When Mandi said it didn’t look like the venue was open, I couldn’t help but smile to myself and think “Just you wait!” Instead of saying that, however, I pretended to double check my phone. “It’s the right address. I’ll go inside and check.” I opened the door and walked in since Mandi seemed unsure. I called over my shoulder, “This is the right place, Mandi.” I blocked part of the view while I waited for Mandi to come in. I didn't want her to see everything set up in the courtyard quite yet. It was bad enough that I was going to have to explain why it looked like we were in a house or hotel and not a restaurant like she was expecting. --------------------------- Eddie: I did my best not to grin at the look on Wyatt’s face. Instead, I shrugged, “I don’t know. This is where Fi said they were.” I made a big deal of checking my phone once I had the truck in park, “Yeah, this is where she said they were, but I don’t see them.” Fi and I agreed to park on opposite sides of the building, that way Mandi wouldn’t see us, and Wyatt wouldn’t see them until we were ready. “Maybe they’re pulled up on the other side?” --------------------- Wyatt: I was a little worried when Eddie said we were in the right place, but the girls were nowhere to be found. We got out of the truck, and I looked around while Eddie got Willow out. Mandi’s phone was dead according to Eddie, so I decided not to argue or try to call her myself. I reached for Willow, but she shook her head and hugged her uncle’s neck tighter. Today was not my day. “Please let my wife be on the other side of this building,” I thought to myself as we approached the building. ——————— Mandi: I looked around once more outside before heading inside. If this was the place, I hoped their food was better than the looks of this place. I headed inside, “Fi, I’m not sure this is the right place maybe Eddie got the address….” I trailed off as I looked around. “Um, Fi?” ---------------------- Fi: I watched Mandi’s face as she looked around. I loved the weathered walls, the quirky decor and the flowers that were placed all around. It did not take long to figure out that a wedding was going to happen here. “I might have told you a little bit of a lie. The guys are meeting us here, but it isn’t just for a late lunch. Right now please just trust me and come this way.” I lead her up to the bridal room where her gown was hung by the window and everything else was laid out as if it was a magazine photoshoot. “Today’s your wedding day!”
Tumblr media
———————— Eddie: I felt bad for making Wyatt worry, but I hoped he would forgive me in the end. We walked around the side of the building and towards the front, I smiled and pointed to Fi’s car, “Look there’s her car, but I don’t see them.” We walked over to the car and looked around. I turned to Wyatt and shrugged, “Maybe they went inside?” I looked at Willow and grinned, “Shall we go see if Mommy and Fi are inside?” She grinned and hugged me tighter, “Off we go.” ———————— Wyatt: I was skeptical, but I followed Eddie since he was carrying my daughter. This was definitely not a salon or anywhere else that Fi and Mandi would be at. The closer we got to it, the more it felt...wrong. Eddie was starting to go inside with Willow, but I hesitated. “Eddie, are you sure about this?” ------------------------ Mandi: I looked from the wedding gown to Fi and back again, “It’s my what?” I was really confused. My wedding day? How was that possible? Wyatt and I still didn’t have a day picked out and had tons of decisions left. Okay, one, where were we going to elope to. “Fi, I’m confused. How is today my wedding day?” --------------------- Fi: I set my bag down and gestured for Mandi to sit down. “Eddie and I felt like you and Wyatt were….overwhelmed with all the decisions involved in a wedding. So we worked on figuring out what was most important to both of you and…” I gestured to the gown. “We pulled it all together. Once we get you dressed, Eddie should have Wyatt and Willow dressed. Staff from the restaurant will be downstairs getting the food ready and the cake out. Eddie made It especially for you. Then Dani, Max, Rex, Beka and a few other of your friends will be waiting in the courtyard for you to make your entrance.” I fought the urge to bite my lip as Mandi stared at her gown but didn’t say a word. —————————- Eddie: I turned to face him, my hands on the knob and nodded, “This is exactly where we are supposed to be.” I smiled, “Come on, you’ll see. The girls are gonna be just fine. They’re probably already in here waiting for us.” I had Willow, I knew if I went in, he’d follow if for no other reason then he wouldn’t want anything to happen to her. I walked in and held the door open, “Are you coming?” ——————— Wyatt: I took a last look around the area. “Yeah, I’m coming.” I grabbed the door and stepped inside. This was no salon. It looked...like a house or a hotel. There were flowers and decorations everywhere. We had walked into some fancy event, but I wasn’t sure what. “Eddie, it looks like we’re intruding. A party or something?” I know Fi’s car was outside, but where was everyone?
Tumblr media
---------------------- Mandi: I turned from the dress and looked back at Fi, “You and Eddie did all of this, for us?” When Fi nodded, the tears that threatened to spill when I saw the gorgeous dress, fell freely. I had no words. I walked over and gently touched the dress, “This...this is the one I showed you that day that was my favorite.” I turned and looked at her, tilting my head, “That’s what all that was about that day? Getting the details of my wedding so that you and he could do this?” I was in awe. The dress was perfect, down to the smallest detail. I couldn’t stop looking at it. ------------------------- Fi: I quickly grabbed a tissue. “Don’t you dare cry and ruin that makeup,” I laughed as I dabbed at her eyes. “Willow is a year and a half. It’s about time you two got married. Don’t you think? We really wanted to do this for you.” I reached up and took her gown off the hanger and laid it carefully on the sofa. “Ready to play dress up?” I grinned and gestured to the gown. ————————- Eddie: I grinned as the hostess walked towards us and told us we were right on time. I turned to Wyatt and chuckled at his confused look. “Or something is more accurate, but if we want to be technical, we walked in on your wedding.” I handed him Willow and motioned for him to follow me. “Fi and I wanted to do something special for you and Mandi. We know with taking care of Willow and working that planning a wedding might be overwhelming. So we investigated and pulled everything together. Down to the smallest detail.” I opened the door to the room where his suit and Willow’s dress were waiting. “We took care of all the planning based on what you and Mandi told us you wanted. Fi is with Mandi now helping her get ready. Your suit and Willow’s dress are right here.” ----------------------- Wyatt: I stood there holding my daughter looking at a sweet party dress and an expensive suit not knowing what to say. “Eddie….I….,” I trailed off as Willow squirmed to get down once she saw her dress. As soon as I set her down she ran over to it and hugged it to her chest. “I don't know what to say, Eddie. This is….,” I just nodded and patted his back before crouching down to help Willow put on the dress she clearly fell in love with. Once she was twirling in her new dress and shoes, I stood up, looked at Eddie and grinned. “So, Best Man. You gonna wear that to the wedding or do you have a hidden suit, too?”
Tumblr media
----------------------- Mandi: “I don’t know what to say. Thank you both so much. You have no idea what this means to me. To us.” I walked over and took the dress from Fi, gently laying it on the bed. I turned back to her, “Fi, you have no idea the special place you have in my heart, not just because of this. You’re a great friend, and I hope one day you’ll be my sister, too. If that’s what you and Eddie want, but right now, right now I think….” I had to trail off ‘cause I was tearing up again. I wasn’t sure if it was okay or not, but I had to hug her. I threw my arms around her and thanked her again. “But I can only do this under one condition.” I stepped back and smiled at her confused look, “You and Eddie went through all this trouble to make this so special, but it wouldn’t be complete if my whole family wasn’t standing with us. Would you be my Maid of Honor?” --------------------- Fi: Mandi’s hug was unexpected but heartfelt. I returned it with a smile. I certainly never expected her to ask me to be her Maid of Honor. “I...of course,” I laughed. “I’d be happy to do that. I guess Eddie was right and I should have bought a new dress, huh?” I opened the armoire door and took out the simple cocktail dress I had waiting for me. “Let’s get you dressed so we don’t mess up your hair or makeup. Deal?” --------------------- Eddie: I chuckled as I opened the closet and shrugged, “This is all I have. Nothing special just a nice jacket and pants. I couldn’t exactly hang out with you wearing this. You would have known something was up. I wasn’t expecting you to ask me to be a best man.”  It meant a lot to me that Wyatt asked me to be his best man. Considering how things started off between us, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he only tolerated me because of Mandi. “I wasn’t even sure you two would be okay with this. I was worried it might offend you that we stepped in. But I wanted to do something special for both of you. I only wish our parents were here, too. I know it would've meant the world to Mandi.” ---------------- Wyatt: I nodded as we started to get changed. Willow was thankfully sitting on the chair playing with my keys. I think she made herself a little dizzy from all twirling she did. “Mandi always wears or carries that locket we gave her. Your mom is with us. Don’t know if she told you, but we found a picture of you and your dad when you were little. She put it on the other half, but covered it with a picture of Willow so you wouldn't be embarrassed or anything. So as long as she has her locket, your folks are always nearby.” I slipped my jacket on and turned to face Eddie. “Will this work for the groom?”
Tumblr media
__________ Mandi: I smiled, “I think you’ll look great. And let’s not tell Eddie he was right. It’ll go to his head.” We both laughed as I walked back over to the dress, “This dress is so perfect. How on earth did you find it? Every place I called when I saw it didn’t have it. It’s one of the reasons I wasn’t sure I could handle wedding planning. It seemed like it was a constant let down as to what I wanted. But you and Eddie, you two pulled it off. It’s so much better than what I had in my head.” I was nervous as I undressed and stepped into my wedding dress. It was amazing. It fit perfectly. I had my back to the mirror after Fi helped me with the back of the dress. “What do you think?”
Tumblr media
----------------- Fi: Mandi’s dress fit like a dream. I couldn't answer her at first. “You are absolutely gorgeous, Mandi. As beautiful as any model in a wedding magazine. But I think we're missing something. I’ll be right back.” With a grin, I ducked out to grab her bouquet and let the staff know we were almost ready. I saw the justice of the peace with the guests down below and gave him a quick wave before returning to Mandi. “Every bride needs a bouquet, right?” ________________ Eddie: I nodded. “I think it’ll work perfectly for a groom. Nervous?”  I couldn’t help but smile when Wyatt told me about the locket. “Thank you. I appreciate you telling me. And she’s right. I might be a little embarrassed. Though just knowing that it’s there means a lot considering our history.” It really did mean a lot that Mandi even had the picture in the locket. I took it as a sign that we really were okay and going to stay that way. There was a knock at the door when I opened it, the hostess said they were ready for us. I turned to Wyatt and smiled, “Ready?” ----------------------- Wyatt: Was I ready? I didn’t think Eddie could have asked me a sillier question. “I’ve been ready for a very long time,” I said with a smile. I took my keys back from Willow and picked her up. “Let’s go see your Mommy, Willow. It’s time to get married!” Eddie and I laughed as she clapped. I kissed her cheek and set her down. Taking one of Willow’s hands, I gestured for Eddie to take the other. “Here we go!” ———————- Mandi: I had the biggest grin when Fi brought the bouquet back to me, “Fi, they’re gorgeous!” I started blinking really fast and had to laugh, “You tell me not to cry, but I can’t help it. This all means so much to me. It’s overwhelming, but in the best way possible.” I walked over and took the bouquet that she held out for me. Everything was perfect. Today was perfect. “Is it weird that I’m not nervous? Well, not really?”
Tumblr media
--------------------------- Fi: I smiled and bent down to fix her skirt. “I’d like to think that when it’s right….there’s no need to be nervous or scared. Just...content. Crazy, huh?”  I stood back and brushed some dust from my skirt. “Let’s go have a wedding.” I winked at Mandi and opened the door, checking the hallway and looking down on the courtyard below. Flowers, friends, soft music. Everything was ready. I turned back to Mandi and started humming “Here Comes The Bride” as I lead her downstairs and over to her waiting groom.

Princess Beatrice’s new husband’s ex Dara Huang is seen enjoying drinks out on the town
Princess Beatrice’s new husband’s ex Dara Huang was seen enjoying an evening out on the town just hours after Edo Mapelli Mozzi married the royal in a secret ceremony at Windsor Castle yesterday.
The  Chinese-American architect, who shares four-year-old son Christopher, known as Wolfie, with ex-fiance Edo, looked in good spirits as she enjoyed drinks in Knightsbridge with friends last night.
Just hours after Beatrice, 31, married Italian property developer Edoardo, 37, at a ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, in the grounds of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s home of Royal Lodge, in Windsor Great Park, with just 20 guests – including the Queen, 94, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, Dara was pictured stepping out with friends.
Dara was seen laughing with a male friend as she put on a casual appearance in ripped black jeans shorts and a white t-shirt, which she teamed with trainers and a quilted jacket at a local cafe.
The mother-of-one was then seen putting on a mask as she left the venue with a coffee and a shopping bag, as well as a large blue rucksack.
In January, a friend of the former couple told the Mail On Sunday they remain close, and that Dara still cuts Edo’s hair and occasionally buys him clothes.

The same morning, at 11am, Dara’s ex-fiance walked down the aisle in an intimate ceremony with Princess Beatrice, making the royal a stepmother.
Beatrice, who is ninth in line to the throne and is a granddaughter of the Queen, has become the only princess to marry someone with children and take on a stepchild.
The father-of-one has a young son, Christopher, whose nickname is Woolfie, with his former partner of three-and-a-half years.
Edo is said to enjoy an amicable relationship with Dara and prides himself on still being an active part of his son’s life.
In August last year he told the Telegraph: ‘I take [Christopher] to school a couple of mornings a week and finish in time to put him in bed three or four evenings.’

Beatrice has reportedly welcomed Dara into her life, adopting a stepmother role to Woolfie.
She is believed to have been on the guestlist for the wedding when it was first planned, but it’s not known if she made the cut for the slimmed down nuptials today.
Dara, who posted pictures yesterday enjoying a tennis lesson in Chelsea, has reportedly also found love following the break-up from her former fiancee.
The architect is thought to be with 37-year-old London-based financier, Filippos Kodellas de la Morena.
According to sources, Princess Beatrice opted to wear her original wedding dress.
In January a source told the Daily Mail that Beatrice was looking at wedding dress at Italian designer store Caroline Castigliano.
The insider said: ‘Bea was seen popping into Caroline Castigliano in Knightsbridge. Though Caroline isn’t Italian, and takes her name from her first husband, she’s known as an Anglo-Italian designer because lots of her clients are from Italy.
‘Her gowns go for between £15,000 and £40,000, which gives us an idea of the budget!.’
Yesterday, the Queen shared her delight at Princess Beatrice’s surprise secret wedding to Italian property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, saying it was a ‘very nice’ occasion.
Proud grandparents the Queen, 94, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, were among the roughly 20 guests who watched the couple exchange vows at 11am this morning at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, in the grounds of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s home of Royal Lodge, in Windsor Great Park.

Another Debut
This is a fic about Darla and remembering some things from her past while spending some time with Blue. This is also a multi OWN universe story with mentions of Greenleaf’s Sophia and Zora  Greenleaf and their Cotillon. When you see the name they chose for its organization, you’ll know why these universes now meet and what inspired this fic. Also on AO3
“How’d you learn how to tie a tie?”
“My escort to cotillion one year.”
-Micah and Darla, episode 2x06
When Blue woke her up this morning, tugging on her foot that had slipped from the covers sometime this morning when Ralph Angel got out of bed no doubt, Darla was grateful. She’d been dreaming about her parents again. It’d been happening more frequently now since she’d- they’d gotten engaged. She needed to tell them. Wanted to. To share her good news, and finally, show them that she had changed. No, scratch that…that she was getting better.
“Mommy, remember you promised to take me to the library for storytime lady today. I hope you didn’t forget, ‘cause I’m ready to go almost!”
Darla sits up, and meets her son’s, too bright for this time of day, eyes with her tired ones and can’t help but smile.
“Not before your breakfast and a bath, Mister. I didn’t forget, just let me get myself up out of bed first.”
Blue puts his hands on his hips like he’s offended. Kenya’s hair sticking through one fist digging into his side. She tries not to let him see her chuckle at his stance when she swivels to sit all the way up on the side of the bed. He waits and his eyebrows are wrinkled when she looks back at him. Causing a little dip right in the middle of his forehead she’s surely seen before. A Bordelon trait, if there ever was one.
“That’s why I said almost, Mommy. Come on!”
He’d held her hand all the way through the parking lot like she’d asked him to, so when Blue shot off like a rocket to the storytime carpet once they’d made it all the way through the Adult and YA sections, she didn’t protest. He’d said he wanted to get one of the good seats, and thankfully the library had some computers you could get some time on right across from where the group always sat. Darla hoped to get some work done here since she was still trying to keep from using the data on her phone. She’d started watching tutorials to brush up on Excel and some other things she could use at the office. Darla also wanted to check her email. It had been a few weeks since she’d read the first newsletter in her inbox. Events should have happened by now, surely.
Settling down at a desk, once showing her card to the attending librarian, Darla made sure she got the computer that she could see a clear view of Blue from and that he could see her as well. He’d kept his eyes on her since he found his spot and threw his hand up in a vigorous wave as soon as she looked up.
“Alright, let’s see. D, you can do this.”
Darla says it to herself, then glances over quick. Sighing with relief that one, her voice was light. And, two, no one is seated next to her to even hear it. The mantras to herself have always helped. In and outside of her head. Pulling up her account, she doesn’t even have to scroll before she sees it.
“St. Josephine Society: Tennessee Chapter Cotillion Held. The spirit of elegance was high!”
Her heart leaps, scanning the first three words as all the memories flood back, just like it was yesterday. Darla hovers over the link for two beats before she clicks it.
The word Alumni almost made her cry the last time she read one of these newsletters. She’d just taken Blue back home from his swim class day and Ralph Angel was still being distant, so she came to check messages and decompress and it was almost too much. The memories that time. Realizing this was a club that she, despite her troubles or with them, was still a member of. Today was different. Scrolling down the page, she smiled as she read about the venue, this year’s speakers, and the accomplishments of all the debutants. The year she debuted, she had 4.3 GPA, her All-State Swim Team accomplishments, all the things that made her mother smile and her dad’s chest puff out at her side during her introduction. The night was always magical, but the family portraits still remained to be her favorite part of the evening.
Pausing her scroll, Darla looks back up for Blue. The storytime lady held the book against her knee with one hand, while the other was sweeping through the air in a motion that had Blue’s smile a mile wide as he gazed up at her. Darla smiled herself watching them for a moment, then turned her attention back to the computer. Opening the portrait gallery, a young girl with a smile almost as wide as Blue’s drew her right in.
“Sophia Greenleaf. Her smile reminds me of mine.” Darla thought to herself. She’d fallen in love with her own dress much like hers in this photo, the white tulle Darla’s had made her think about her favorite shirt growing up, and weddings, and joy. The wave of sadness washes over her and averts her eyes right below Sophia to someone who must have been kin, a Zora Greenleaf. The young lady and her dress with a gorgeous shaw, just as beautiful as the girl before her, but her smile was barely there and a sadness seemed to shine in her eyes. A feeling Darla also knew all too well.
Darla’s hand slips off the mouse at that. Eyes flicking up to find her son, and a sense of balance again. Maybe she would call when she got him back home. Once she’d fixed dinner and ate all together at the table, just like family. Or maybe after she’d given Blue his bath. The bubble castles, of course, had to be built for Kenya to crash through before he even thought about getting out. Closing the tabs on the computer screen, Darla looks up, a sigh of relief slipping out when she sees Blue heading her way.
“Mommy, guess what our story was about!”
She’d call tomorrow.
