cherry waves. - a thanos x namgyu fic

an: this is my first fic!! i’m sorry it’s soooo short,, written for @thangyuyaoi

the soft, almost ethereal hum of "cherry waves" by deftones drifted through the thin walls of namgyu's cramped apartment, its melancholic tones blending with the quiet of the late evening. it had been a long, draining day at work for namgyu, each task more grueling than the last, leaving him feeling physically and mentally spent.

earlier that evening, when namgyu got home from the club, the weight of exhaustion still lingered on his shoulders as he kicked off his shoes and sank into the worn armchair by the window.

he thought for a moment about his options, whether to go straight to bed and let his aching limps rest, or call thanos and ask what’s up.

he chose the latter.

the thought of work had completely vanished from namgyu’s mind, instead being replaced by the quiet focus of the moment as he watched thanos, with his rough, calloused fingers, carefully wrap the blunt. the dim light in the room flickered slightly, casting long shadows across the table, but namgyu's attention was fixed entirely on the calm, meditative movements of his friend. it was in these small, quiet moments that time seemed to slow down, and for once, namgyu could almost forget about everything else.

"why are you so concentrated?" namgyu mumbles, his voice thick with impatience, eagerly watching thanos’ hands move with careful precision as he continues rolling the blunt. his eyes follow every flick of the fingers, unable to resist the urge to speed up the process.

"patience, nam-su!" thanos retorts, his eyes never leaving the blunt he holds between his rough fingers, the tip of his tongue occasionally darting out to lick the paper, as if he were some kind of craftsman perfecting his art.

"It’s namgyu, not nam-su…" namgyu mutters under his breath, his words barely a whisper, though he knows thanos can hear him. He doesn't mind the slip-up, he's used to it by now, but it still feels like a little game between them, something only the two of them shared. namgyu wonders if he does it on purpose, deliberately mispronouncing his name just to piss him off, a thought that brings a small smile to his lips.

thanos pauses for a brief moment, glancing up from his work with a faint, knowing smirk. "namgyu," he corrects, tapping the blunt lightly against the edge of the table to seal it. “that better?” his tone is playful, teasing, but there's something in his voice that makes namgyu’s annoyance slowly fade away.

namgyu huffs, but it's more out of amusement than anything. "you're impossible," he mutters, leaning back into the chair, his gaze drifting back out the window. the streetlights outside cast a soft glow across the dim apartment, and for a moment, the world outside feels distant, muted. the only sound heard from thanos’ cheap speaker that makes the deftones song sound foreign, but namgyu can’t really complain.

thanos lights the blunt, taking a slow drag before handing it over to namgyu, who accepts it with a quiet nod. he inhales deeply, savoring the harsh flavor as it coats his throat, feeling the familiar warmth spread through his chest. for a few moments, neither of them speak, the smoke just curling around them like a slow dance.

namgyu’s thoughts begin to slow, the day’s weight slowly leaving with each inhale. he passes it back to thanos and watches as he inhales, holding it for a moment. thanos smiles and blows the smoke into namgyu’s face, the smoke swirling around him.

namgyu waves the smoke away and laughs, taking the blunt from thanos’ loose grip. thanos, with his rough edges and nonchalant attitude, had always been an anchor for him. namgyu can’t quite explain why, but in these quiet moments, it feels like everything makes sense, even if only for a little while.
