Daminette December Day 1
AN: I know I said you wouldn’t see me until the end of the week, but it kind of slipped my mind that it was Daminette December, and I need a bit of creative writing to save me from my droll schoolwork. I hope you enjoy this, it’s not very Christmas-y or winter-y or anything, but I hope it fits the prompt well. Btw, feel free to use the moodboard above for your own Daminette December entries this year, just be sure to credit. 😁 Thanks @daminette-december2019-2020 for hosting!
Day 1 – Inspiration
Marinette couldn’t count the number of times she was asked where her inspiration came from. The question was rather par for the course for an artist. People flooded her Twitter and Instagram begging for behind the scenes looks at what was responsible for her creations; what dug inside her skin or lit the bulb above her head.
As far as she could tell, Marinette had never answered the question with 100% honesty.
When she was younger her answers had been simple; a building, or event, or even a color could send her spiraling, creating beautiful works of art with her mind and hands. Underneath the surface, however, there was always some unknown feeling, a rush of words on the tip of her tongue, wanting to spill forth. But for whatever reason she never was able to fully grasp, the words evaded her, the words that would fully encapsulate her inspiration.
Those days had long since passed, and the words that had long escaped her came as she grew older. How to explain it properly, without sounding like a mad person, was a different question entirely.
Her inspiration came from the sky; the solid blues, the inky blacks, the warm reds and oranges, and everything in between. The tiny pinpricks of light dotting the night’s expanse, or the warm rays lavishing the earth in warm embrace. It was the cool grey of misty mornings as it stretched over a quiet manor, or the watercolor masterpiece of sunsets spread out across the Parisian skyline. It was the expanse that never ended, always there and always changing.
Her inspiration came from noise; the sounds of creation, the hum of her sewing machine, the crunch of scissors cutting into new fabric, the rustle of fabric as she hand stitched a placement for the third time. It came from the soft scratch of pencil against paper, the low humming that was denied when pointed out, the soft scoff when annoyed. It came from grunts, screams, clashes of metal against metal, and pounding boots across rooftops. It came from whispered reassurances, raucous laughter, and endless teasing.
Her inspiration came from touch; the casual brushes of skin, the ruffles of hair, the victorious fist bumps, the side hugs from friends and family alike. It came from strong warm hands perfect to hold, and catch, and caresses. It came from punches, kicks, and swipes. It came from harsh throws and rough pushes. It came from hurried, longing kisses and desperate embraces.
Her inspiration came from hope.
But also, despair.
Her inspiration came from the good; the drop in her stomach when she fell swung off a building, the smile brought to a child’s face with a simple wave, the rush of magic when the day was saved, the friends made, the enemies defeated, and the family found.
And her inspiration came from the bad; the aching muscles, the stinging cuts, the dripping blood. The endless nights with no sleep, and the hopeless days when you weren’t fast enough. It was the yelling and anger, the fighting and fear.
Her inspiration was the moments where she grasped for the strength to carry the weight of lives on her shoulders. The moments where she looked out at the world and screamed because there wasn’t enough left inside her to give anymore. The moments where she was small and weightless, unmoored in a sea ready to crush her beneath icy waves. The moments where she could do nothing but hold those she loved through tears and recriminations, when the weight of death and dynasty entwined together and made a rope on which to choke with.
Her inspiration was quiet night above the cities she loved – the one of her home and the one of her heart. It was the game nights with family and friends. The meetings with legends, and heroes, and gods. The baked goods and coffee that fueled her waking moments, and the precious memories that lulled her to sleep. It was warm glow of knowing someone and being known in return, even through the endless dark of night.
And how, how, was she supposed to convey that?
Marinette couldn’t, and if she were honest, she never wanted to.
How could she tell the world that her inspiration was life, in all of its beautiful messy glory, and not explain hers to show what she meant?
It was not for the world to know what her inspiration was, merely that it fueled her, and pushed her to greater heights. It was not for the world to know her inner depths, which were for those she loved and who loved her in return. And Marinette was perfectly fine with that.

Hey!How about bakugo and denki (maybe overhaul???) With an s/o that draws on themselfs all the time? thanks ❤❤
OVERHAUL I SCREAM YES
look at my non creative ass making this using the same excuse 😐 oh well
My first time writing for overhaul and I went a little overboard 00pS probably didn’t write him right but send me feedback if I did 👊
lmao I’m probably not doing any of this right pffft— 💀
anyways this is coming out on Christmas so I wanted to let you all know...MERRY CHRISTMAS and for those who don’t celebrate it HAPPY HOLIDAYS :D I love you all and thank you for helping this account grow!! ☺️🥰
BAKUGOU, KAMINARI AND OVERHAUL WITH A S/O WHO DRAWS ON THEMSELVES ALL THE TIME
KATSUKI BAKUGOU
— “Stop drawing on yourself idiot.”
— “Oh my god let me write that on my arm so I won’t forget.”
— he watches while you out of pettiness pull out your crayola markers and start doing some calligraphy on your arm in big warm letters saying “STOP DRAWING ON YOURSELF”
— you decorate it putting them dots all over it and add your hero symbol and smiled at him with “Thank you for the reminder, this is why I like you.” and keep it going
— he always tries to hide your pens and markers
— he would blow them up but he did that once and the ink spilled all over him
— you laughed at him after beating the mess out of him for touching your markers
— “My jiji bought those for me, baka!”
— “Y/N...get off me...your crushing my balls...and let go of my fucking leg—OW!”
— “You crushed my markers you mother—“
— he buys you new markers after patching himself up
— you inspect them with a glare “they aren’t my jiji’s limited edition watercolor markers but they’ll do.”
— he just twitches an eye but keeps it going
— jokes on you she bought them cause your jiji bought them from staples lmaoo
— “When you get sick no one is taking care of your bitch ass.”
— “Oh please my quirk isn’t going to make me sick.”
— “Your what—“
— You explain to him that when you draw on your skin it actually start to move and this is how you can plan out battle moves and he’s just
— “Hah. Lame ass quirk like it’s owner.”
— you know he got his shit rocked for that lmfaoo his stupid ass💀
— he can’t even get irked at you whenever you draw on yourself cause it’s your quirk damnit
— sometimes he likes to draw on you lol
— “Hypocrite.”
— “Shut, the fuck up.”
— you made sure to get your soft bakugou pictures in without him not
— it’s very therapeutic yknow you just sit in a t-shirt while he doodles on you and watches them come to life
— hes actually pretty good at it
— “Yeah shitty lady I’m good at everything.”
— “Apparently not cause if you were you’d be good at shutting the fuck up.”
— “OOP—“
— one time while you were getting ready to hop in the shower you happened to glance down at your calf and see an ‘I love you’ written inside a heart
— of course you took a picture of it
— of course you sent it to him
— of course he denies writing it but you know better
— “That’s not my fucking handwriting.”
DENKI KAMINARI
— look at bakagou i fell in love again UGH
— you guys are so bad omg
— like it’s terrible
— “Babe lets draw dicks on your arm.”
— “Absolutely.”
— “I don’t think I like where this is going.”
— honestly should have been the first warning
— he doesn’t really care about you doing it cause he sticks things into sockets
— you draw on your arm
— potato potato oh well not much y’all can do
— till one day he just gets curious as to why you draw on your arms so much and your just like
— “Kami do you not pay attention?”
— “Huh?”
— “Babe...it’s a part of my quirk.”
— poor pikachu is just 🥴??¿ but you just stare at him and put your quirk into motion
— you think it’s kind of lame but basically your skin is like paper and whatever you draw on it if you wish becomes reality
— he’s still confused until you just draw a detailed apple on your arm in record time and pick it up
— and he watches as it just peels off and becomes real
— and poor boy is shook
— “Here, eat it.”
— and he bites into it and just screams and drops it
— your just like poor apple
— “THATS REAL!”
— “Yep.”
— “Y/N THATS REAL!”
— “I know.”
— “ITS GOOD!”
— “Should have finished it.”
— “Y/N H-HOW—“
— “Kaminari wait—“
— “Y/N I’M WKDKWK—“
— “How the hell did you say that out loud—oh wait shit Kaminari don’t go stupid—“
— after this poor boy is so amazed at you
— “Draw me!”
— “Kaminari I can’t draw living things.”
— he gets so excited over it
— constantly shows off your drawing skills too
— “Look at what Y/N can draw! Isnt it so cool?”
— “Kaminari I love you but please baby stop showing me off.”
— he likes doodling on you lmaoo
— sometimes he draws the weirdest things while other times it’s cheesy pick up lines that you find yourself reading during a lecture
— he tried to make himself AirPods and they came out looking exactly like the drawing he drew
— he cried in the corner like an idiot while you sighed and Yayorozu patted you on the back and handed you a pair
— damn rich kids wksksk
— it isn’t until days later he comes up to you and asks whatever happened to the dicks he drew on your arm
— you just 🥴, pat his head and send him on his way lmfaooo
OVERHAUL
— ugh his name just gives me the shivers I love it
— also this is my first time writing for beak boy so don’t come after me oOP
— y/n are you out of your goddamn mind
— “Absolutely not.”
— “hUh?”
— the first time he catches you he just takes the markers
— he thinks drawing on your skin is a way of you dirtying it and that’s a big no no
— “You are making your skin dirty, and you know how I feel about dirty things.”
— “That’s not what I get when we’re behind the bedroom doors.” you mumble annoyed
— he just shoots you a look but hides them anyways
— you have to be cleaner than Mr. Clean himself you understand?
— and Mr. Clean is very clean there’s a reason why his head is so shiny and his clothes are so white
— so some time passed and you just continue on
— till you’re playing with Eri one day and she has markers and your just like 😶 cause those are your markers
— meaning one of his henchmen gave it to her due to her either being good or not being able to calm her down
— but either way it doesn’t matter because she’s happy and when she sees you her eyes red eyes just shine like rubies
— “Y/N, come draw with me!”
— so happily you give in and you guys are drawing
— until you uncap a marker and smirk
— “Wanna see something cool?”
— and Eri who doesn’t get to see much is absolutely happy with this and agrees immediately
— so you pull off your jacket and start doodling on yourself and as soon as your hand moves away the drawing on your skin practically comes to life
— it runs up your arm and jumps around and dances almost as if it were an animation
— and Eri is just mind blown lmfaooo she’s so curious to how you did it
— and your explain to her that your quirk allows you to animate the drawings on your skin but only on your skin
— it doesn’t matter because she thinks it’s the coolest thing in the world
— so you happily roll your pants up and let her doodle all over your exposed skin and your both having fun watching the animations move
— till Kai walks in on you both and it’s like tires screeching to stop
— at first he sees the markers and then his eyes go from the box to the paper to you laying on the floor with your clothes rolled up and Eri drawing on you
— poor girl is trembling on your leg
— and he’s about to say something when he just stops and watches the deer you drew run across your arm and hop underneath your sleeve
— your just like “oops 😬”
— but he just stares at you with an unreadable expression and just walks out the room and your just 😐 cause your just like “am I in trouble??”
— later when you guys are alone he just pulls up your sleeve and stares at the deer
— and it’s silent as he watches the deer jump and move around like it’s a normal animal
— your scared of what happens next but he just takes his glove off and gently touches where the deer is
— “Kai—“
— “It’s so real...”
— “Uh...yeah...”
— your just silent as his cold fingers brush against the deer until his eyes just move up to you
— “It’s...incredible. Just like you.”
— you turn scarlet at his words and move to pull away but he refuses to let you go, simply admiring the deer in the shadows of your bedroom
— and his touch is absolutely soothing
— so soothing you end up falling asleep looking into his eyes
— later on in the day your doing some cleaning when your sleeve goes up and you see a soft black heart on your shoulder and you smile softly at it
— “I love you too, Kai.”

allow me to rant about the only thing that has been in my brain for the past two months and that is doll customizing babeyyyyy
i know there’s a 90% chance that you wont give a Shit about any of this but here we go anyways
SO first you gotta choose a doll. preferably one with a high range of motion to avoid creating new joints or having annoying limitations like not having elbow joints for some fucking reason. what the fuck mattel. give monster high dolls back their ball jointed shoulders and elbow joints. smh
the most common dolls ive seen used as bases are monster high and ever after high. most customs ive seen are highly stylized so the stylized face molds work well for those types of dolls but dolls like barbies are good for when you want a more realistic face-ups.
once you’ve got your base picked out you gotta wipe that bitch’s face off with like. acetone or nail polish remover or something strong like that. you can also use acetone to shrink doll heads which is cool as hell imo. n e way once the face is wiped you gotta chop off the hair and remove the hair plugs from the inside. ive seen this done several ways but the easiest and most common way ive seen is to dunk the head into boiling water for ~30 seconds until it gets squishy and malleable. once you’ve got the head back, you can use pliers (i think tweezers would work in a pinch) to pull out the hair plugs which are kinda icky because theyre covered in glue and other gross shit. ew
now you must decapitate the doll. dunk em back in the boiling water to soften them back up then just tug the head off. the neck pegs look funky and are usually a different color than the body so thats cool ig
once the head’s off, you can start the face-up which is basically just giving the doll a new face using stuff like watercolor pencils, acrylic paint, gouache, and a whole lot of other stuff. hell ive seen people use person makeup on these dolls.
next,,,,, hair. there’s about twenty million ways to do hair from gluing yarn wefts to sewing to rerooting with purchased nylon doll hair or yarn wefts but i’m gonna talk about the most common one ive seen which is rerooting and gluing.
before you can reroot, you need doll hair. which, as i mentioned, can be bought at stores like the doll planet or made at home with yarn in literally any color. have fun with it! make rainbow hair or something idk
to make homemade wefts, you take some acrylic yarn, cut it twice as long as you want the hair to be (keep in mind you can cut and style the hair once it’s been rerooted), fold them in half, and tie it to something sturdy like a wire coat hanger for the next step.
once you’ve got your yarn tied to your hanger, use a pet brush and brush the yarn until it’s wispy and looks like hair. then take a straightening iron and iron the weft flat. then remove from the hanger and boom. hair wefts. ta-da
to reroot the wefts onto the head, use a rerooting tool (which can be as simple as a needle with the eye cut at angle) (just google it please i’m shit at descriptions)) to poke small sections of the hair into the head. you can use the pre-existing rooting holes for your own reroot as they’re usually pretty reliable. to reroot, take a small length of you doll hair (about 10-15 strands), loop it in half, and put the middle of the loop into the reroot tool. poke the end of the tool with the hair on it into the pre-existing hole and remove the tool. the hair *should* stay in and fill up that plug!! also remember to plug thickly at the hairline and part of the hair where it's most noticeable. it doesnt matter as much in the center of the head as that’s not usually visible on the doll. once you’ve rerooted, squeeze in strong glue through the neck hole and squish around the head to make sure it covers all the plugs and secures them in place. then pour hot water onto the head to make the hair lay flat for styling later.
also, you can reroot yarn directly into the head to make thicker, more textured hairstyles. and since the yarn is thicker, you dont need to glue the inside of the head for the hair to stay in place!!
if youre not doing body modifications (which are also cool as hell) then it’s time for clothes but clothes are boring and i like body mods more so i’m gonna rant about them instead
the material ive seen most doll artists use is apoxie sculpt, which is like play doh on steroids. it comes in two parts which you gotta mix together for some reason. why dont they sell it pre-mixed. what was the reason. also once it’s dry it’s super super strong and you can sand it, drill into it, paint it, and all kinds of stuff. very nice and i want some for myself.
you can use hand saws and drills and shit to whack off doll limbs to make stuff like digitigrade legs or new joints. also dont be afraid to use other mismatching doll parts when customizing like heads and bodies and forearms and hands and shit. it literally does not matter if youre gonna recolor the doll anyways so have fun with it. make frankenstein’s doll if youre feeling spicy
accessories my beloved. stuff like tiny beads and clay baubles and shit will literally transform the entire doll plus they’re adorable and multi-purpose
i suppose i must talk about clothes now. ah well. you can find great clothing patterns if youre new to customizing on other customizer’s etsy shops and probably google although those will probably be lower quality than paid pattern pieces. and keep in mind that if it exists as clothing irl, you can likely make it doll-sized. there are literally no limits to your clothing options as long as you can execute your idea.
the once all your components have been made, you can assemble the doll again!! and finally see what all the parts look like together!! very cool 10/10 stars.
ight that wraps up my doll rant. i could really go into more detail on certain parts but thats a whole other rant for a whole other day smh. sorry for fucking flooding your inbox ender ahaha……………. you asked for this
little did you know that dolls have been one of my favorite things since like ever. if i can read a 25 chapter long fanfic i can read this B)
mattel definitely fucked up by completely ruining MH doll designs and just stopping EAH, alot of their profits most likely came from people who collect and customize dolls and by changing MH doll designs/Stopping EAH dolls they 1. most likely lost a small (or big if we're not jus talking people who customize dolls) part of their profit and 2. made it harder for doll customizers to make dolls/get commissions out rather quickly because they probably have to waste more time making joints or learning how to make joints.
EAH/MH dolls (specifically MH dolls) had AMAZING MODELS because there was so much variety with height, face shapes, etc (my favorite molds had to be the short/tall dolls and the cat molds because of the tails) and doll customizers really went all out with enhancing a molds unique features. The only "downside" abt MH dolls is that they (or atleast most)(from what i remember)) had slimmer faces but wider eyes while EAH dolls have wider faces with slimmer smaller which left a canvas for the face and not the eyes (and vice versa for MH dolls)
I've never seen any videos where a barbie is customized (maybe because i absolutely despised barbies at the time) so I'll definitely have to check those out but they seem to be good for realistic makeovers. I've seen like like semi realistic makeovers for EAH/MH dolls that were pretty good too tho (pretty sure mostly EAH dolls since yk MH dolls were used for creature makeovers while most EAH dolls weren't)
yeah i was always amazed by the head shrinking with acetone. honestly i still am?? idunno i have no idea how that chemical bullshit works. Ive seen a few of uh makeovers that just pain over the face (in multiple layers ofcourse) but that's usually when they're painting the entire body a different colour (again usually when they're turning a doll into a funky little baby man). I've also seen a few that just chop the hair off and take out the hair plugs yk without uuh like softening the head or just go straight for the hair plugs after taking off the head (i used to do that it was funny to me??). i always really liked when they used watercolour pencils or just colour pencils in general to draw/sketch on the face cause like wow ur drawing on ur doll without ruining it?? kinda epic maybe even poggers and pogchamp?? oh god my brain is failing wjshsmsj.
Watching them putting the hair back on the doll was, other than the face stuff, was the BEST part for me. Favorite type of hair was iuuuuuh was either thick yarn or brushed out yarn. Literally worship the people that would reroot the hair, theyre the most patience people on this earth!! it's literally insane but i guess that's what happens when you've been doing that for years? you guess kinda get used to it. when they put glue into the head does it just become stiff?? like it's just a clump of dried glue or does it like..hollow out again??
dude you literally cannot convince me most of the supplies used for doll makeovers. APOXIE CLAY LOOKS SO FECKING GOOD. its edible and i will die on that hill. The body mods are literally so amazing!!!!! it's so impressive how theyre able to imagine certain features THEN LIKE ACTUALLY MAKE IT LOOK ACCURATE TO WHAT THEY WANTED TO LOOK LIKE AFTER LIKE ON TRY (or many yk trial and error is very necessary for..everything). Absolutely loved when doll customizers would saw off a dolls legs and use different ones or just completely get rid of the torso to use a different one. it's like uuh that one big guy that's mismatched and sewn together. very cool. The accessories are so fun!! just small little details you seen really need but can add because it's your feckin doll!! I used to be absolutely obsessed over the doll clothes i would find on etsy, so much so that i started sewing shitty shirts and dresses for my uh "customized" dolls (they were absolute HORRORS idk WHY my mom let me feck up my dolls like that).
Thank you for this!! i haven't been able to talk about any of my interests for a while and this just really made me happy!!
Question fer u my fellow MH/EAH enthusiast: what was your favorite MH/EAH movie/episode and doll series. Mine was The fusion dolls (MH obvi) and that MH movie "Haunted" cause we got to know more about Spectra :D
#YOOOO LONG POST?!#long post#:) hehehe#this was very fun to read cant wait for ur next fanfic length ask#asks :D#theoreticallyjasper

Secrets
A ribbon of smoke wound its way through the holes of an antique Quel’dorei incense burner. Sandalwood and citrus cleansed the old house of its musty smell that lingered from years of neglect. A month in, and the process of refurbishing the Goldenheart estate was slowly coming together like pieces of a puzzle; riddled with memories of sordid and pleasant experiences coiled into one. Rhythmic music filled the small gaps of silence that the pair of Sin’dorei had between them as they continued to bring the house back to life . It wasn’t an artist that the two recognized, but the record player proved to be an interesting find at the festival in the Jade Forest.
Aendonys reclined into a pile of ornate pillows and blankets, more goods acquired from the markets to serve as a makeshift bed. He caught a few last rays of sun before it fell below the horizon, reflecting off the polished tiles on the balcony. It was a domestic deed he did himself, taking a cloth and solvent to the grime until the surfaces felt smooth to the touch. The demon hunter was quite proud of himself for this, and for that he decided to take a break while Micael finished unboxing the decorations and momentos.
“Hm...retiring early?” A golden light neared close, speaking in a baritone voice. The details of Micael’s face were visible in the demon hunter’s vision, like a sketch or a watercolor painting that grew in detail the more he focused. He was a broad shouldered, muscular framed Sin’dorei with soft androgynous facial features that suited him well. Even compared to Aendonys, Micael easily showed far more physical strength. “Well, I suppose you did a decent job.”
“I did a damn good job.” Aendonys quipped, running his claws over the pristine grout and tile. The paladin gave a throaty laugh, the light in his chest grew like a tiny sun.
“You did well above my expectations, Aendonys.”
The two exchanged prideful smirks, intertwining fingers as the hanging crystals projected dancing lights from the sunset. In the distance the spires of Silvermoon created a black backdrop against the purple and orange sky. It was a welcome sight as the world withdrew into an hour of peace. For however long it would last--one could not discern, but for this moment the defeat of an old god and the pause of war could serve as a brief respite. It was a good time for them to settle into a relaxed life, or at least make a nest to come back to when they were off on another adventure.
The paladin’s hand gently slipped away as Aendonys heard the clatter of Micael’s armor being slipped off the manikin. A subtle expression of concern was painted upon the demon hunter’s face, he reached over to remove the needle from the record.
“I’ll get my glaives.”
Micael cut him off before the other sat up. Placing a metal hand firmly upon Aendony’s shoulder. He was becoming accustomed to the prosthetic.
“I am just preparing for the night watch. I’d rather you stay here to keep the place guarded.” There was a sense of assurance in the tone of his voice, a stubborn self-reliance that Aendonys grew fond of in this man. He huffed in a mildly annoyed retort, sticking his tongue out far enough that the gold piercing glinted in the light.
“Suit yourself, Goldilocks.”
-------
The galloping hooves of holy knights took off into the night, clearing whatever undead still lurked in Tranquillien. To this day, the Ghostlands still remain a threat, but the undead have thinned out in numbers. The borders of Eversong grew as patches of verdant grass returned, and the wildlife no longer feared the remnants of the Dead Scar. Perhaps one day it would only serve as a memory and nothing more. The Goldenheart estate was a starting point, at least.
Aendonys drifted into a brief sleep--a couple hour nap that the night owl had before midnight. He had yet to light the sconces as the burning embers of incense glowed inside copper chambers. He wouldn’t need light to see anyways, but it was courteous to Micael for when he came home. They still had so much unbuilt furniture and decor strewn about the room like booby traps in the dark--and speaking of, Aendonys’ ears twitched at the sound of footsteps in the house. A hard clacking like that of an armored foot...was he back already? The demon hunter blinked sleepily, a pair of violet glowing eyes piercing the darkness.
“Micael? Is that yo-”
A hand clasped over the demon hunter’s mouth, claws digging into his skin as slender fingers wrapped around his neck. He failed to react in time as a paralysis took over his body.
“Hmm. just like old times, Aendy.” The sinister voice of a woman filled his mind. It was harrowingly familiar. He saw her silhouette clear as day, the curvaceous demoness with her upright horns and outstretched wings that seemingly dripped with shadow magic.
“I’d bite you if you weren’t into that, Bryketh.” He snapped a muffled reply. The succubus removed the hand over his mouth to dig her stiletto claws into Aendony’s shoulder as she straddled him.
“Oh, we know each other so...so well.” She hummed. “It’s sad to see you so...hm--domesticated. That’s what paladin’s do after all, they take our gifts from the void and stomp on them with their big, obnoxiously shiny boots.”
Aendonys sneered, struggling against her magic to reach for the dagger he buried into his pillow. The hilt brushed against his fingertips.
“Heh…maybe I’m into that. Not like you’d know since you're a heartless bitch.” He paid the price for that quip, feeling her claws dig through his demonic skin. Blood was certainly being drawn, but her spell was slipping.
“Did you tell him what you did to me, Aendonys? How you made me love you for your own gain?” She whispered in an aggressive trill. “Does he know what kind of treachery you are capable of--my dearest demon-hearted bastard?”
He reached for the blade, he fingers wrapped around the hilt. He waited for Bryketh to slip up enough that he would slit her throat--but suddenly he felt a pressure on his hand. The succubus disappeared in a plume of smoke as Aendony’s eyes snapped open with a burst of violet flames.
“It’s just me.” The voice was similar to Micael’s but in a monotone drone. Aendonys saw a man with outstretched feathered wings and long stark white hair. His foot was over the dagger that he reached for. Red curtains ominously flowed over the open balcony that he entered through as a cool breeze entered the room.
“Gabe?” The leaves outside rustled as the twin brother’s wing’s disintegrated from sight revealing the full moon behind him. He could feel the gaze of the other’s spectral sight piercing him. Gabriel was best described as an icy dagger compared to Micael’s warmth.
“I wanted to see if it was true. That you and my brother are going to live here now.”
Aendonys was quiet for a moment. He still hadn’t recovered from that nightmare, but this was certainly reality now. He ran a hand across his shoulder as if expecting to feel blood there, but it was dry.
“Yeah. We’re going to at least try.”
It wasn’t uncommon for a moment of silence to linger between them. Aendonys knew Gabriel far longer than he had known Micael. They both witnessed each other’s sacrifices and betrayals as Illidari, in a way he always saw him as a brother like Asmodan. A cold and distant--soon to be step-brother--who cared far more than he ever wanted anyone to see. Even his spectral vision worked differently than others. He would see the emotions Aendonys was feeling like they were painted on his face in clear view. The discomfort and fear he always masked.
“He proposed the idea, didn’t he?” Gabriel spoke.
Aendonys smiled a bit more genuinely than he usually did. “He did. It’s because we are getting marr--”
“I know.”
Gabriel strode over to the closest sconce on the wall and lit it, illuminating the two in a arcand light. He sensed where each one was by memory. This was once his home too.
“Goldilocks can’t keep his mouth shut, huh?” Aendonys kicked the covers off and rolled onto a cross-legged sit. He chuckled a bit at that before his smile faded, watching the white-haired man select and open a book from a nearby shelf. It wasn’t as if he could read it but the texture of the pages was pleasing, perhaps. This suddenly didn’t feel right. “So...which one of these rooms was yours?”
The white haired illidari pointed to the ground where Aendonys was sleeping.
“This one.”
Aendonys pursed his lips awkwardly. Straightening up a pillow like it didn’t even belong to him now. He wasn’t entirely sure why he was acting like this. “Oh, I see. Well it’s now your guest room for whenever you stay here. Unless you wanna move in with us.”
“I don’t.” He replied in an eerily calm manner. Shutting the book he inspected.
Aendonys sighed and adjusted his posture having nothing to say to that. He might have understood why Micael didn’t speak with his brother about this, but it wasn’t done so out of ill will.
Gabriel wandered into the other rooms for a moment, reminiscing quietly as he somberly lit the hallway for Micael’s return. Aendonys quietly followed after as if expecting the brother to speak about his past here like Micael did. He did not.
“Have you told him about Bryketh?” Gabriel suddenly questioned. Aendonys slapped a hand over his face in a disgruntled display.
“For fels sake, Gabe. Not you too.”
The white haired Sin’dorei suddenly snapped his gaze towards the other interrogatively.
Aendony’s waved his hands dismissively with a sigh. “--nevermind that. No. I have not. Why should I? I wouldn’t ever treat Mike like that anyways so it doesn’t matter. I know I’ve done some people dirty in the past to survive, but I’m especially not going to sit in a confessional booth over betraying a demon.”
Gabriel turned himself to face Aendonys. His bangs fell over the wraps that covered his eyes but a dim white glow shone through. “I told him my secret. Now you tell Micael yours. It doesn’t matter that you wouldn’t do the same to him. He should still know for your sake.”
Aendonys scratched at the stubble that began to grow in on the sides of his scalp. He would ask Micael to shave it for him soon, maybe that would be a good time to talk about his both figurative and literal demon. It wouldn’t be like his fiance would turn the blade on him in that moment...or at least he hoped not. Gabriel did have a point however, keeping this from Micael would only give whatever was left of Bryketh ammunition to torment him. It took him a while to fully admit that, but somehow Gabriel’s bluntness was something he needed at this moment.
“Alright. Bet.” He replied. “...but also I wanted to say that we didn't a day for the ceremony yet. When we do though, you should come. Micael really wants to see more of you, ya know?”
Another moment of silence lingered between them. Gabriel didn’t answer that as the sound of hooves thundered close. He instead walked back to the balcony and rematerialized feathers. The moment another cool breeze passed by, the estranged brother beat his wings. Ribbons of smoke danced and the parchment rattled as he took off like a shadow in the night. Aendonys didn’t even bother to offer a farewell, he knew Gabriel well enough.
The front door opened as Aendonys spied Micael’s golden light. The paladin’s helm gently clinked onto the floor as he sauntered in; the image of pomp and glory himself had arrived with his job done.
“Oho, you’re certainly feeling better lately.” The demon hunter leaned against the hallway with a sultry grin.
“.--and you’re awake early for your late evening nap. A shame...I wanted to surprise you.” Micael passed by Aendonys, swiping his armored fingertips across his chest. He hung his sword upon the wall.
“Yeah, well maybe I couldn’t wait for you to get back?” Aendonys followed after as the paladin unfastened his armor piece by piece.
“Hoh? Do you care about me that much? How endearing.” For a man who wielded holy power Miceal sported a devilish grin. The other Sin’dorei took a seat next to him, he couldn’t witness his partner undressing with his lack of eyesight but he could hear the armor falling unceremoniously to the floor. The spring air brought another brisk breeze through the room as Aendonys ruminated on the dream and Gabriel showing up. He could sense Miceal’s attention being drawn to the corner of the room with the bookshelf. The curtains swaying as they did earlier.
“Aendonys, one of the books is gone from the shelf. The one Gabriel always liked to read.”
The demon hunter turned towards the paladin, he took in a deep breath.
“Micael. I have something to tell you.”

Virgil couldn’t tell you when it started, but he could tell you when he realized it - and then stupidly let it fall out of his mouth like it wasn’t a big deal at all.
2:30 am on a Friday night - or a Saturday morning, depending on how you looked at it. Leaning against the brick wall of Roman’s mindscape castle, watching the dream-like stars above.
Everything in Roman’s section of the mindscape was dream-like. Virgil didn’t know how he was able to stand it. It was all either sharply defined and ethereally glowing with color - creative ideas that had been brought to life and were currently functioning - or draped over with a watercolor fog, all misshapen and malleable. Those were ideas that were still in the process of becoming whatever they were sent out to be. Roman had explained all of this to a dubious and disoriented Virgil on his very first visit to the creative side’s realm.
Virgil still couldn’t quite wrap his mind around it, even in that moment, as he watched Roman casually move stars with the sheer power of his mind to create shapes, attempting to derive snorts and giggles from the deliriously tired Virgil. And Virgil was too exhausted to resist, high on the night’s energy and drunk on some stupid euphoric feeling rushing through his veins whenever Roman paid even the slightest bit of attention to him.
He let his weary head fall onto Roman’s shoulder as his giggles died out. Roman fondly smiled and let the stars fall back into place. Silence fell over the pair.
Virgil would be the first to admit that he didn’t know what the hell he and Roman were. When they had started to get closer, it happened gradually, and then all at once. Suddenly they were walking a thin line between super close friends and something else entirely. What exactly that something else was, Virgil had no idea. And his early morning mind wasn’t in any sort of set to figure it out, but he tried anyways, propelled by anxiety and that same euphoria still clouding his mind and setting flutters throughout his stomach.
All he knew was that he liked - no, loved - being around Roman. He loved talking to him and seeing what was going on in his mind, that lovely, intriguing mind that was so different from Virgil’s own. He loved the way Roman acted like a cartoon character, with his ridiculously cocky smirks and big, jolting laughs. The way he wasn’t as shallow as he ever portrayed himself to be. The way his very presence felt like home.
Virgil loved everything about Roman he’d once despised, back when he was undeveloped and blocked by too much of his own issues to try to see past his own walls.
His sleep deprived mind came to the conclusion his heart already knew before the rest of him could catch up. Virgil felt himself fall from Roman’s shoulder to across his lap, gazing up at amused eyes and a fond smile. Then Virgil opened his mouth and the words fell out before he could stop them.
“I think I’m in love with you and I don’t know what to do.”
Before he could watch the damage he’d surely abruptly caused fall across Roman’s face, Virgil’s eyes closed, and he fell asleep instantly.
***
Virgil woke up late the next morning in his room, a red sticky note on his forehead. He sleepily pulled it off to reveal Roman’s gorgeous, flamboyant calligraphy.
When you’re awake, come to my room, darling. - Roman
He stared at the note, dumbfounded, as his brain struggled to wake up. Then the events of last night slapped him across the face, and he leaped out of bed in an anxious mess, beginning to pace the floors.
Dear God, what have I done? The one time he let himself say something without thinking was the one time he surely shouldn’t have.
It was too late now. The vibrant note stared Virgil in the face as he pulled on a clean hoodie, making something curdle in his stomach.
Despite the anxiety clenching his muscles, Virgil forced himself to make his way down the hallway to the room he knew too well before hesitantly knocking on the elaborately carved door.
“Come in.” Roman’s voice, peculiarly panicked but as boisterous as ever.
Virgil felt himself hesitantly turn the knob and swing the door open. He made eye contact with Roman before he wanted to, attempting to ignore the annoying breathlessness that his body put into place as a result.
“Roman? I, um-“
The other man offered him a comforting smile. “Sit down, Virge.”
Virgil complied, taking a hesitant seat on the edge of Roman’s bed. Roman sat next to him, their knees brushing. There was a moment of silence as both men tried to figure out where to start.
“Last night,” Roman finally began. “What you said… did you really mean it?”
Virgil looked at the ground, his heart swelling with everything he wanted to say, to do. How he wanted to treat Roman gently, like the most exquisite thing in the world, and yet he also wanted to pin him up against the wall. How he wanted to stay permanently by his side, the rest of the world be damned. How he wanted to tell him that he was perfect, no matter what he thought otherwise; that he seemed to have been crafted by angels themselves to be one of them, but instead the angels decided the world needed Roman’s light, and how Virgil thought he would forever be indebted to those angels because of that.
Instead of admitting to any of those things, he squeaked out a simple, life-changing “Yes.”
Roman was quick to react, cupping Virgil’s face and pulling him in for a soft, loving kiss, one that would be the first of many.
Maybe Virgil should let himself act impulsively a little bit more.

Baby, we're an artistic coincidence
written by: josefine / @selflessbellamy
prompt: "You keep requesting the book I need so I can’t have it the whole time and we leave each other passive aggressive notes in the margins" for anonymous
word count: 2564
If Athena had lived today, her black dress would be set aflame by the ravaging war behind her, there would be a chess piece tattooed across her collarbone: the knight, symbolizing strategic warfare. No doubt she would have a bruised face with a cut lip but her pace would carry her proudly through the battlefield. At least, this is how Clarke Griffin captures her in a modern format, drawing all of the curves and lines that make up a goddess.
She’s been reading The Iliad for reference. Despite her interest in mythology she’s never actually read that classic before, but now that it’s vital for her studies, she has to. If only the asshole that keeps reserving the book from the library would just let her have it for more than a week at a time.
Annoyed, she’d walked into the library that morning, sipping on her hot chocolate. The first unsuspecting librarian she encountered was the target of her frustration (but not even that could possibly cloud how cute he was).
“Isn’t it possible for me to have this book for longer? I really need it for my studies.”
“I’m sorry. It’s the rules. The other person claimed that he needed it to write a novel, but I don’t know. He looked like a college student to me.” At that, the librarian had smirked, just a tiny pull at the corner of his mouth, but that was enough to send her away, since she wasn’t keen on getting distracted by anything — at least not until her project was finished.
For hours, she sits by one of the tables in the library, struggling to finish the portrait of Athena before she has to turn the book over, which she does. However, she still has three art pieces to go: Artemis, Nyx, and Nike. Feeling exhaustion seep into her bones, Clarke makes an impulsive decision that she knows she’ll most likely regret, but before she has the time to, she opens the book and scribbles a short message in the margin of the first place.
Now, are you really writing a book or is it a bullshit excuse?
I need this book, otherwise I’m gonna fail my course.
Hope it’s a damn good WIP.
Then she closes it again before handing it over to the cute librarian, and they exchange smiles. Somehow, it places guilt in her heart, sort of like she’s disappointed him in a way by writing in the book… Whatever, she doesn’t even know this man.
***
A week later, the book is hers again, which leads her to the library. By now, her drawing of Athena has been filled in with gorgeous watercolors, and she’s surprisingly proud of it. Since her dad died last year, her inspiration has come and gone like a tidal wave, which is more than frustrating when your future depends on the work that you create.
Grinning slightly this time, the librarian hands her The Iliad, and suddenly a question emerges from Clarke’s lips without permission. “Sorry, but would it be weird if I’d like to know your name? We see each other so often by now, it just… feels a bit strange—“
“Not at all. My name’s Bellamy.”
She smiles. “I’m Clarke.”
When she opens to book, ready to start her drawing of Artemis, a mysterious blue Post-It has been placed in the margin of the first page, directly below where she wrote her passive aggressive message a week ago. Now, that’s been erased.
On the Post-It, the other Iliad-reader has written:
DON’T YOU KNOW IT’S WRONG TO WRITE IN BOOKS, PRINCESS?
SHAME ON YOU ;)
(AND YES, I AM IN FACT WRITING A BOOK)
Block letters? Who writes in block letters like that? Well, when they’re not yelling at someone on social media, that is. Needless to say, it’s uncommon. Thought #2: What the hell is that winking smiley face supposed to mean? As everyone knows, the use of it can be interpreted in a million different ways, so… is this guy a creep? Is he just trying to be sassy, what’s going on?
Before her mind loses to all of the unanswered questions, Clarke stops her train of thought, reminding herself that she has some very important work to do, and she has no intention of letting anything prevent her from it.
It takes a few minutes for the full image of a modern Artemis to take shape in her imagination, but when it does, Clarke wastes no time. Keeping a strict focus as a young huntress starts to appear on the piece of paper, she hardly notices someone brush past her. Later, she finds out that it’s Bellamy, because he reveals it once she’s about to leave.
“I hope you don’t mind me trying to sneak a peek at your drawings. They’re really good… Are you doing a project?”
At those words, Clarke lights up, spinning around on her heel so that she can walk back towards him. “Yes. It’s a series of art pieces that depict some Greek goddesses in modern time,” as soon as she’s said that, Bellamy’s eyebrows shoot up, exposing his interest and surprise.
“Which ones are you doing?”
“Oh, you like Greek mythology?”
He chuckles at her question, running a hand through his curly, dark hair: it’s attractively messy, and for a moment she’s more than tempted to move it out of his eyes. Nevertheless, she catches herself at the last minute, placing her hand on the counter.
“I’ve read The Iliad myself a couple of times,” he admits at last, grinning.
Curious, she meets his dark brown eyes for a second before her gaze unconsciously drifts to the dusting of freckles across his cheeks. He would be difficult to draw, she notes: the lines of his face vary in hardness, and there seems to be no shortage of beautiful features that she would hardly be able to do any justice, like the small crinkles around his eyes. Before she becomes too carried away, Clarke starts to tell him more about her project. “I’m doing five different ones. Athena, Artemis, Nyx, Nike, and Aphrodite… I’ve only done two by now, and the project is due in two weeks. This is why I keep returning for the book.”
Bellamy hesitates for almost an entire minute, then says, carefully, “Wouldn’t it save you some time if you bought a copy?”
Worrying her lips, Clarke explains, “I’ve looked, but they’re all newer versions and somehow restored. I wanted my references to be as traditional and unrestored as possible just so that the pieces could have some authenticity.”
If his facial expression is anything to go by, Bellamy didn’t expect that reply at all. When he finally speaks, the only words that emerge are of understanding, “Yeah, okay. I see that…”
Shrugging, Clarke heads for the door again, saying, “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I need to buy a copy. Thank you. See you tomorrow.“
But she’s barely taken two steps towards the door before Bellamy stops her in her tracks, “Clarke, wait! I— Maybe I can talk to the other reservation-holder and ask if he would mind letting you have the book for the next couple of weeks?”
Turning her head, she manages to smile at him. “No, I wouldn’t want you to go through that trouble for my sake. Have a nice evening—“
“But…”
She can tell that he’s holding something important back and he’s pulling himself together in order to say it, yet meanwhile, amid the silence, Clarke’s eyes dart to a small stack of blue Post-it’s at the left end of the counter. It doesn’t take her long to put two and two together, and while there’s still a possibility that she’s wrong, she decides to jump the gun. “… So you’re writing a book. Is it in block-letters?”
At that, he looks up, noticing the smile on her face, and he immediately seems relieved that she’s not angry with him.
“No, I’m using my 20th century typewriter. That’s why it’s taking so long,” he jokes, making her laugh. That alone is enough to baffle her, since most people haven’t been able to make her laugh in the past months. Her dad passing doesn’t have her in tears anymore, but the traces of the grief sadly still linger, which has made it more difficult for her to enjoy things. “I’m sorry about the Post-It,” he continues sheepishly, pulling her back to reality. “But I can’t bring myself to write in books… Unlike some people.”
“Are you judging me?”
He shakes his head as his smile grows wider. “No, and you can have the book. I’ll just use the old one I have at home,” Wait, if he already had The Iliad at home, why would he need the one from the library so badly? Before she can gather the courage to ask, Bellamy apparently reads her mind, because he explains, “The one I have is an heirloom that’s been passed on through three generations. When my mother died, she left it to me because she knew that I loved it so much, but I’m afraid that it’s falling apart now. The spine is ruined, and the pages can’t handle much more turning—“
Before he can speak any more, the thought that has struck Clarke’s mind eagerly escapes her throat. “You know what? We should share the book… How do you like your coffee, Bellamy? You look like a ‘none of that sugar-and-milk bullshit’ guy to me,” with that, she winks, prompting him to wink back at her, which indicates that she was right.
***
They take the book to the nearest coffee shop. Once they’ve received their orders of caffeine, Bellamy pulls out a notepad from his bag and Clarke places her favorite set of pencils on the table. “I never asked you what your book was about…”
At that, his smile turns crooked as he lets his pen graze the tip of her nose. “Well, I think you’ll like it. It’s about the ancient Greek gods and goddess in our modern world.”
Obviously, she thinks he’s joking at first, because there’s simply no way that they’re working on the exact same idea, but he looks really serious. Sending her a crooked grin, Bellamy seems to be aware of her doubt and decides to pass her his notes as evidence: In block letters, there are incredible details about Athena’s tattoos and outfit choices, about Artemis’ pact with nature, about Aphrodite’s self-love.
“Maybe we can help each other out.”
Chuckling, he replies, “Yeah. If you promise me you’ll never write in a book again.”
So that’s what they do every day for the next two weeks. They meet up in the library or in the coffee shop to share their ideas and keep each other company while they work, even if it’s for hours on end until the stars come out. Quickly, they discover that they have a shared passion for snacking while working, but in order to do that, they’re forced to change the location of their meet-ups. Luckily, the park seems like the perfect spot.
“What did you bring for me?” He teases when she shows up, carrying a plastic Target bag, but she only sticks her tongue out at him.
“Not for you. For us… Skittles, Oreos, Hershey’s and Nerds.”
“You read my mind.”
Sitting on the grass next to Bellamy as rays of sunshine fall onto his face is distracting; it makes his skin resemble growing bronze and his eyes remind her of the forest floor on a summer’s day. Worrying her bottom lip, Clarke asks for his opinion, “Aphrodite… She’s difficult. How do you picture her?”
Clearly thinking hard, Bellamy picks a purple Skittle from the bag, offering her a red one, since it’s her favorite. Then he says, “I picture her having long strawberry blonde hair and green eyes. And she would wear one of those maxi dresses, for sure.”
“White or pink flowing fabric?”
“Pink, definitely.”
As Clarke sketches, she senses Bellamy’s gaze on her, which makes it a little more difficult to focus, and yet a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth at the thought of him being interested in her work. In fact, having someone else care about her project has made her more passionate about it, and she has even gone back to the older sketches to add more details after talking to Bellamy about them.
“You’re extremely talented,” he murmurs, his breath ghosting over the shell of her ear. “The way you capture silhouettes is just… Does it run in the family?”
At his question, Clarke stalls, the pencil hovering over the drawing while she tries to prevent herself from trembling. Judging by the way he places his hand on his shoulder comfortingly, her sadness peeks through her rough exterior despite her efforts to hide it. Swallowing, she croaks, “My dad was an artist. He never got to witness my acceptance at RISD.”
It’s easier to talk to him about it, knowing that his mother’s gone, too. Losing a parent is unimaginable to most people, and the only ones who know just how deep the pain of it cuts, are those that have experienced it.
“I’m sure he would be proud of you.”
That’s it; those words break her shield, make her walls crumble, so that tears are running down her cheeks before she’s even realized it. To no avail, she attempts to catch them all with the back of her hand, but when Bellamy turns around to hug her, she finds that the soft material of his blue Henley absorbs them a lot better.
After a minute, she stops crying and pulls back to let the sunshine dry her cheeks, yet Bellamy’s thumbs do so first. Overwhelmed by his softness, she says, “I want to draw the cover for your book once it’s published.”
“If it is published, you mean,” he smiles sweetly, but she shakes her head.
“No, when it’s published.”
He’s already promised her the honor of being the first person to read the prologue of the novel, which is nearly done, and she’s practically buzzing with excitement at the thought. No matter what, she intends to be his biggest supporter in finishing it, not only because it sounds amazing, but also because he is much kinder than he gives himself credit for.
In fact, it seems very much as if he doesn’t give himself any credit at all…
***
When she receives an A for the art pieces, Clarke desperately wants to give him the credit that he deserves for being an amazing encourager and partner during this project. Knowing that she can’t, however, causes her to find another way to thank him for everything.
He’d given her The Iliad on the last day before she had to turn her project in, assuring her that she needed it more than him at that point, but now she’s ready to return it after having placed a new sticky note on the front cover.
Would you like to go out some time?
- C
When she hands it to him, and he reads it, Bellamy radiates, deciding to act like an adorable dork by writing his response below her message instead of telling her.
Some time like now? I’m off. Coffee? ;)
There’s the winking smiley again, although this time, Clarke’s not at all confused by the meaning of it…

An honest review of Corel Painter 2018, from an artist who has been using it since version 8.
Painter is like the most beautiful lady, filled with so many bad habits that never change.
And I say so with all my heart.First, let me get this straight, I love Painter, I wish I could be using Painter for all my painting needs. Alas, after giving Painter a chance for so long, I realize that love is a life long journey, and it’s better to be married with someone who has a great character than just beauty, and that someone is Photoshop.
But sometimes, for an exciting fling with ex, I go back to Painter just occasionally, hah.
Now lets get to the good sexy points first:
PROS
Painter has the most robust brush engine in a painting software available today. The options for adjusting it are so diverse, that it can be a little daunting to anyone who hasn’t use it before.
Painter has the best brushes to mimic traditional media. Once you tried it, you will know it. The oils, pens and palette knives are some of the tools that I wish other software have.
Painter can apply different colors to each bristle of the brush, hence creating that organic multi-color strokes that is very difficult, if not impossible to do in other software.
Painter can “paint on a path”, which is super amazing. Which means you can use that oil brush and still achieve a very sleek finish even with complex shapes, while varying degrees of pressure and strokes to make it look natural.
Take a look at some of the line work I did using Painter:
Look at the lovely brushstrokes on their hairs, and sleek line work through out all 3 art. These are easily achievable in Painter. Their natural brushes are so good that I’ve never had to create my own brushes, they are good right out of the box.
Painter also has a palette for mixing colors the traditional way, which is very good for people with long traditional backgrounds.
Then Painter has “Blenders”
If you are starting digital art, chances are you have been using traditional mediums for a while, and you know traditional mediums are not the easiest to blend totally smooth colors.
Now if you look at her pink hair above, painter can blend exactly that smooth very easily. You can just lay down 2 blocks of solid colors, and use blender “just add water” and brush over it, until you achieve the smoothness you want. For beginners, this seem god send. For more experienced artist, you can change/use different brush tip for the blenders and achieve a more textured look.
But what makes blenders so good is not the smoothness of it, but rather, it can change the approach you create art and speed it up. Rather than blending every element slowly, you can just lay down blocks of solid colors fast, and blend them altogether later.
So Painter has fantastic brushes and a great brush engine, plus a nifty blender right? But that’s about it.
CONS
Now its the cons. Prepare yourself.
Painter as a software is very clunky, glitchy, and it has been the same ever since so long. The people at Corel is either incapable of improving it, or they just doesn’t care.
1. Using Tablet Eraser Lags
Yes you read that right, even basic feature like switching to eraser lags. But hey, that’s the faster version. You know what’s slower, switching to eraser tool command also lags, for half a second or a second I don’t know.
This makes rough sketching extremely annoying for me. Where I tend to draw and erase immediately, the constant switching of tools creates a constant sudden lag which is really frustrating, breaking momentum.
2. Default eraser cannot be adjusted.
What? Yes, you are stuck with a pressure sensitive eraser, with a soft or hard edge version. Yes, ever since forever they never change it too. In order to change it, you need to do some out of the box file editing, but that means you can’t change it while you are working, so it’s useless as well.
Well you can adjust the eraser, but only as a “brush tool”. Which you have to select a new brush to erase, and you have to reselect your previous brush to paint again.
Again this is very annoying for me, whereas in PS I just need to press “e” to erase and then “b” to paint again immediately with my brush cursor still in the same place on the canvas. In Painter I have to go over the canvas to select the eraser (b), erase, then select again the brush, and back to painting, which takes up tons of time. You can’t use a different shortcut like PS, because as I say, the “adjusted” eraser is considered a brush tool.
3. The 1st time you open the brush engine, it lags, for about 3 secs
Yes, it lags again, though only for the first time, but I don’t know why, it never change since forever.
4. Using big brushes lags.
Painter always claim that their current version is faster than before, but that only shows how bad it is the previous version was, and the current version is not much better.
I often paint in large canvases in PS so that I can put in tons of details. Sometimes there are tons of layers, sometimes just a few. But in all cases I can use brushes up to 800px wide without problem, in 1000px I have to paint slower or the strokes will not catch up. I usually do that to cover large areas.
One may argue that Painter’s brushes are more sophisticated, but most brushes lags when they pass 100px, with few layers. With tons of layers? Its a nightmare.
5. Painter’s drag zoom, zoom you to the MAX.
Sometimes, when you are trying to paint a certain area, you put one of your hand in Ctrl-Z (undo), so that you can keep immediately undo each time you didn’t get the strokes right.
Occasionally, you didn’t press Ctrl in time and pressed the Z, so it becomes “zoom” (shortcut for both in PS and CP is same), and then you stroke your brush in zoom mode.... you zoom a little in PS, so you just zoom out back once again, but in Painter, you always zoom in to the max, 1600% zoom. So you zoom out repeatedly to get back again.
Like wtf Painter? who zooms in 1600%??
6. Painter’s “Canvas” is a mystery.
For a long while, I often wondered what the “canvas” layer is for (The bottom most layer), until now I still don’t have clue. The canvas layer cannot be edited, moved, or duplicated, so if you open up an image in Painter and would like to duplicate, or erase the background and paint underneath it, you are out of luck.
It is unbelievable, that in 2018, you can’t drag an image and put it on another layer in another document.
The canvas is more nuisance than useful. You can’t create another layer underneath the canvas. You can’t even copy and paste the canvas.
Ah but you can move that layer into another layer or another document through an unorthodox method, you know what? You have to go under layer tab, and choose “Lift canvas into watercolor layer”
Then you can drag “that watercolor layer”. So essentially, you need to convert to watercolor layer and thus it duplicates the layer for you and change its blending mode to “gel”, but it cannot just duplicate that into a normal layer? Yeah, that’s Painter’s canvas. I always start my image in PS.
7. Color Picking from another image causes it to select it, so you have to click your file again.... and IT LAGS, EVERY SINGLE TIME
It’s no surprise that in the digital era, picking colors has become so easy, and as an artist, I often use color reference from other images. But imagine when you have to reference many colors and each time you reference there’s a lag in between, it’s like painting back and forth 2 different file, and with a lag.
I will add on to list in the future, these cons are the only ones I can remember for now.
(Switching brush selection and brush engine.)
(path tool)
CONCLUSION:
It’s 2018, and Painter still doesn’t fix the most basic functions to allow Painter to be used easily. There are more issues, but these are the most basic issues that stops me from fully using Painter as my go to software. And these are issues that have persists for a very long time (forever?), instead Painter introduces gimmick features like “music brushes” and charges a whole lot for each new version of Painter.
I use Painter only for my line/brush work for now.
Instead of improving and fixing to make Painter a fully usable wholesome painting software, Painter chooses to focus on trivial features that nobody asks for.
Painter could beat Photoshop and become the King of painting software, but it can’t, because it never changes it’s bad habits.

I heard about the prompts for Dan's birthday, so how about either of these choices? 1. All of the Grumps give him a special present each from their own heart 2. Some great Egobang (because why not?)
I pretty much did both! Gotta drop Egobang in there because I’m 100% certified egobang trash!
Brian -
Dan looks at the rectangle package Brian has handed him. It’s wrapped in plain blue paper, and scribbled in the top left corner are the words “Happy birthday, dick.” He knows immediately that it’s a book, and if it’s a professionally bound copy of The Beej, Dan might actually go to jail for second degree murder.
“Of course you got me a book,” Dan says dryly.
“Open it, you idiot,” Brian tells him, and Dan sighs dramatically, if only to annoy Brian a little bit more.
His sass evaporates immediately upon tearing off the wrapping paper, however. Tears immediately well up in his eyes and he has to set the book down next to him on the couch because of how bad his hands are shaking.
It’s a signed, first edition copy of “The Last Unicorn.”
Brian grunts from the impact of Dan practically tackling him and hugging him tight. “Happy birthday, Danny,” Brian says, petting Dan’s hair.
“Thank you.”
-
Later on in the day, when he sees Audrey, she excitedly gives him a stegosaurus plushie and wetly kisses his cheek before running away, cackling.
Barry/Vernon/Brent -
There’s a large box waiting for him on Barry’s kitchen table. He hasn’t been over too much since he moved, considering how busy they are, so he and Barry have planned to get some take out and watch shitty movies, just like old times. “What’s this?” Dan asks while he hangs his jacket over the back of one of the kitchen chairs. It’s a plain cardboard box, and the only indication that it’s something special is the bow that’s taped to the top.
“Open it,” Barry urges, not looking up from where he’s unpacking their Chinese food. “It’s from me, Brent, and Vernon.”
Dan grabs a paring knife from the block and slices through the tape. He opens it to find several items, and he’s not quite sure what everything is until he begins pulling out shirts. There are six old band tour shirts, plus a Kurt Cobain memorial shirt. There are three Rush ones, a Yes one that he could probably wear as a dress, one from The Cure, and one from Pink Floyd. Dan peeks into the box again to make sure he didn’t miss anything, and sure enough there’s a bubble wrapped parcel in the bottom, which he tears into once he gets his hands on it. Out spills more vintage band merch, this time a Rush patch, three Rush pins, four Def Leppard pins, and an Asia pin. Dan is smiling so hard his face fucking hurts.
“Dude!” he shouts, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. “This is so fucking rad!” He waits until he’s sure that Barry’s hands are empty to sweep the shorter man into a tight hug. Barry laughs warmly and pats Dan’s back. “Thank you!”
“Brent and Vern helped me find quite a few of them,” Barry reminds him. Dan whips out his phone and snaps a picture of the pile of merch before sending it and a very enthusiastic thank you text to Brent and Vernon. Barry helps Dan refold the shirts and put everything back in the box so that they can clear off the table to eat. When they’re settled, Barry pipes up with “and now you can wear more than the three t-shirts you cycle through constantly” and Dan chucks a piece of sweet and sour chicken at him.
Suzy -
“Jesus, Scuze,” Dan grunts, taking the large, heavy package from Suzy and resting it on his coffee table. It’s at least two foot long and two foot wide, if not more. He’s glad that he’s got some open space on his walls left, otherwise he’d have to do a fair bit of rearranging.
Suzy is sitting on the couch next to him, curled like a cat. Arin is in his kitchen unpacking their dinner. “Has he opened it yet?” he calls.
“Not yet!” Suzy calls back. She turns to Dan with a childlike excitement on her beautiful face. “Open it!”
“Did Arin want me to wait for him or—”
“Open the fucking present, Dan,” Arin says from where he’s leaned into the living room. As soon as he’s appeared, he’s gone again, and the sound of clinking plates begins as he divvies out the food.
“Demandy Sandy,” Dan mumbles, but obliges. He carefully tears the black wrapping paper (why had he expected anything else from Suzy?) to reveal a gorgeous map of Middle Earth, set deep into a nice black frame. “Whoa.” He leans in close to examine it, finding that it’s incredibly detailed.
“Do you like it?” Suzy asks, hopeful.
Dan wraps his arm around her and pulls her tight to his side before kissing her temple. She giggles and wraps her own arms around his waist and snuggles into his side. She smells like peonies and freesia. “Thank you, Scuzy. It’s beautiful.”
Ross and Holly -
While they wait for everyone to arrive at the office for Dan’s impromptu birthday party, Holly comes bounding up to him. Dan can’t help but smile at her. She’s so radiant and the happiness on her face is contagious. She’s carrying a box that’s wrapped in brown paper and decorated with birds. “Happy birthday!”
He takes the package from her and eyes the wrapping. “It’s almost so pretty I don’t want to open it,” he muses. He knows that she drew the birds on it, and it feels wrong to tear through someone’s artwork.
“I taped it pretty simplistically so you shouldn’t have to tear it if you don’t want to,” she says, pointing to the sparse amounts of scotch tape on the flaps. Dan grins and slowly undoes the tape, taking care to not rip the paper. He’s gonna hang it up somewhere in his music room.
“Oh my God, Holls, this is awesome!” In his lap sits a Legend of Zelda chess set. He’s been meaning to get a chess set for a long time so that he and Arin can also play when they’re at his house, but he had never gotten around to it. He carefully rolls the wrapping paper and secures it with some of the tape he had peeled off before hugging Holly tight, causing her to squeal when he lifts her slightly off the floor.
“You’re welcome, Dan,” she says breathlessly when he sets her down. “The only thing I ask though is that you let me play a game with you.”
“Deal.”
-
After everyone has had cupcakes and people have begun to clear out, needing to return to their duties or head out to prior engagements, Ross shuffles up to Dan and places two small boxes on the table in front of him. “Hap birth,” he says dryly.
Dan fixes him with an incredulous look before chuckling and shaking his head. He opens the smallest one first, and he’s greeted with a little blue ceramic stegosaurus. He’s a little goofy lookin’ and Dan is immediately in love. “Aww, he’s so cute!”
“It glows in the dark, too,” Ross says, and Dan gasps.
“It’s like the 80s up in this bitch,” he says, reaching for the second package.
“Yeah, if we’re talking about your age,” Ross quips, and Dan uses his long legs to his advantage, lightly kicking his socked foot into Ross’ shin.
The second present looks so fragile that Dan’s almost afraid to touch it. It’s a replica of a stegosaurus skeleton crafted out of paper. It’s contained in a glass dome. “Dude,” Dan says, astonished. It’s like having a museum display in his hand! He makes sure to carefully wrap it up before putting it back in the box. He really, really doesn’t want to break it. Before Ross can escape, Dan has captured him in a hug, and even though Ross is grumbling, Dan knows he loves it since he’s hugging him back. “Thanks, man.”
“I mean, I needed to get the dinosaur some dinosaurs, right?”
What an ass.
Arin -
It’s weird that it’s two days past his birthday and Arin hasn’t given him anything. It’s not that he thinks he deserves something, but it’s very out of character for Arin to not give someone a gift of some kind for a holiday. He loves any excuse he can get to give someone something that will make them smile.
Dan has settled himself on the Grump couch while he waits for Arin to finish doing whatever he’s doing out in the main office. He scrolls through the subreddit with a smile on his face upon seeing all of the ‘happy birthday!’ messages. He’s hasn’t been super excited about his birthday since he turned twenty one, since after that there aren’t really any milestones to look forward to until you reach retirement age. Getting so much love from his friends and the fans, however, has made him enjoy his birthday a bit more since it reminds him just how awesome people can be.
Dan puts his phone to sleep when he hears the sound of the door opening behind him, and sure enough, Arin comes around the couch and sits down next to him a moment later. He’s holding one hand behind his back however, and he looks nervous.
“What’s up, Ar?” Dan asks.
“I uh, I have your present, but before I give it to you I wanted to say sorry for it being late. There was a delay on it getting done for some fuckin’ reason.” Dan furrows his brow, confused.
“Okay.” He nods his head. “It’s not a problem, big cat. I’m just appreciative that you got me something, man.”
Arin smiles, and it lights up the entire room. His cheeks are flushed pink when he removes his hand from behind his back and hands Dan a hardcover children’s book. Dan is confused for a few seconds before he fully reads the cover. It’s the book he wrote a few years ago that Arin was going to illustrate. Dan’s mouth drops open slightly with a gasp, and he cracks the book open so that he can flip through the pages.
It’s professionally printed and bound, and it looks like something he could find in Barnes and Noble. The illustrations are fucking gorgeous. They’re not done in Arin’s usual style. Dan brushes a finger over the page, completely enamored. He doesn’t know jack shit about art, but he’s pretty sure that it’s hard pastels and watercolors. The colors are so vibrant and it’s exactly like he had always imagined.
He only realizes he’s crying when he tastes salt on his lips.
Carefully, he shuts the book and sets it on the table in front of them before he turns to face Arin, who is watching him with bated breath. Dan doesn’t fully know what possesses him to do it—maybe it’s just because it feels right—but he cradles Arin’s face in his hands and kisses him softly on the mouth. Arin’s sharp intake of breath is loud, but after a second he relaxes and releases the breath. The sensation of facial hair against his upper lip and chin is strange—it’s very different, but it’s not a bad kind of different.
When Dan pulls away, he opens his eyes to see that Arin still has his closed. His cheeks are a lovely rosy pink, and his lips are parted and shiny. Dan can’t help but press a second chaste kiss to them.
Dan leans into Arin’s warmth and presses his face against his neck, winding his arms around the younger man’s waist and holding him tight. “Thank you, baby girl,” he says, and Arin shivers at the feeling of Dan’s breath on his sensitive skin. Arin runs his fingers slowly through Dan’s hair, making sure to not catch his fingers on any possible knots. Dan leans into the touch, a complete opposite of the reaction he would have had four years ago. The thought makes Arin smile.
“You’re welcome. I’m sorry it took me like, three years to get it to you.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Dan tells him. “It’s perfect.”
There’s a long swath of silence before either of them speak again. Dan feels the rumble in Arin’s chest before he hears what he says. “Could I kiss you again?”
He pulls back so that he can look at Arin. A smile breaks out across his face.
“Absolutely.”
all of dan’s gifts
